- 0:00Speaker 1: You just heard the news.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Now you'll find out what it all means. Hey, Smarts
- 0:06Speaker 2: amone on seven to ten walk. Well, hey, we'll get
- 0:12Speaker 2: to President Trump. We'll get to a crazy mom, Donnie.
- 0:15Speaker 2: We'll get to Don Rickles. It's one hundredth birthday today.
- 0:18Speaker 2: We'll get to Kamala Harris twenty twenty eight. Yeah, it
- 0:23Speaker 2: looks like it's gonna have We'll get to the viruses
- 0:26Speaker 2: it coming here. We'll get to Hakeim, We'll get to
- 0:29Speaker 2: Mick Jagger. We'll get to a lot of stuff to
- 0:31Speaker 2: talk about today. It's Friday already. That's the good news
- 0:35Speaker 2: bad news for Democrats. The jobs numbers are out and
- 0:39Speaker 2: they're really good, way above estimates. This keeps happening, month
- 0:44Speaker 2: after month after months. Stocks are up as a result
- 0:47Speaker 2: of a very strong jobs report. This is several months
- 0:50Speaker 2: in a row, very strong jobs report. Corporate spending his
- 0:54Speaker 2: way up, earnings are coming in, they're looking great. You know,
- 0:58Speaker 2: every so often you get a company, little company, Whirlpool
- 1:01Speaker 2: for instance, on their call yesterday said business is plunging.
- 1:05Speaker 2: So this is all you hear about Whirlpool business. It
- 1:09Speaker 2: fell off a cliff. And they'll just play that up
- 1:11Speaker 2: on that's the only story they'll tell you. They will
- 1:13Speaker 2: not tell you that earnings are up all over the
- 1:15Speaker 2: place every other corporation. So that's the problem. If you
- 1:20Speaker 2: watch Network News or CNN or MSNBC, you're getting one
- 1:24Speaker 2: piece of the puzzle and not the rest. So as
- 1:29Speaker 2: far as I ran, we've seized one of their tankers overnight.
- 1:33Speaker 2: They fired a shot here, just little stuff. The ceasefire
- 1:36Speaker 2: is in place. The President calls it love tap, little
- 1:40Speaker 2: love taps, but the ceasefire is in place. President at
- 1:44Speaker 2: the White House. This is the final weekend of mar
- 1:46Speaker 2: A Lago. It closes every year on Mother's Day because
- 1:50Speaker 2: it's way too hot to be in Florida for the
- 1:52Speaker 2: next six months. You might want to bear that in
- 1:55Speaker 2: mind if you're thinking of move in there for six months.
- 1:57Speaker 2: You can't go outside, So it closes on Mother's Day.
- 2:00Speaker 2: This is the final weekend. I don't think he's going though.
- 2:02Speaker 2: You know those old jientis that clog up the dining room,
- 2:05Speaker 2: those howie yo, those women, I don't know what they're
- 2:08Speaker 2: gonna do. He's not gonna show up, So it looks
- 2:11Speaker 2: like he's going to Virginia later today. One of those
- 2:13Speaker 2: l I V golf tournaments. They live l I V.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Saudi Golf League. It looks like the Saudi's are pulling out.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Looks like it's probably on its last legs. But they're
- 2:24Speaker 2: having a big tournament today at the Trump golf course
- 2:26Speaker 2: in Virginia. He's got a big golf club right outside
- 2:29Speaker 2: of DC, so he'll go there tonight for that. He's
- 2:34Speaker 2: not going to Miami tonight. I don't think he'll go
- 2:36Speaker 2: in the Palm Beach. I don't think he'll go tomorrow.
- 2:39Speaker 2: He'll probably some weekends. He stays around DC when it's
- 2:42Speaker 2: warm out, the weather's good, plays golf at his own
- 2:44Speaker 2: course in Virginia, and he enjoys it because in the
- 2:49Speaker 2: Virginia golf course, everybody there says hello, mister President, Hello,
- 2:53Speaker 2: nice to see you. If you go to the Palm Beach,
- 2:55Speaker 2: one to mar A Lago, everybody's howie yo. It's a
- 2:58Speaker 2: whole different crowd in in Virginia. So I think he'll
- 3:01Speaker 2: stay up there all weekend. They've decided on one thing.
- 3:09Speaker 3: You know.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Trump used Nancy Pelosi for a long time as a
- 3:12Speaker 2: good punching bag, a good target because she symbolizes everything
- 3:18Speaker 2: rotten with politics in DC. So a woman making one
- 3:21Speaker 2: hundred and seventy five thousand a year who somehow on
- 3:24Speaker 2: that salary is now worth eight hundred million insider trading.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Just a sleezeball, old fashioned, sleezy, dirty politician for one
- 3:35Speaker 2: hundred years, nine thousand years old. Still won't leave. So
- 3:39Speaker 2: she was a great symbol, but you can't really use
- 3:41Speaker 2: her much anymore. She's on her way out. The President
- 3:44Speaker 2: has decided to elevate Hakeem Jeffries. He's going to start
- 3:49Speaker 2: going after Hakeem Jeffries more and more. He's another symbol.
- 3:53Speaker 2: He's a guy from like the most radical left wing
- 3:56Speaker 2: district in Brooklyn, like a real left wing a radical Democrat,
- 4:02Speaker 2: and they like him because he can't talk. You know,
- 4:06Speaker 2: whenever he has to speak on anything anywhere, press conference,
- 4:10Speaker 2: meet the press, whatever, these interns write up talking points
- 4:13Speaker 2: and he recites them, and he does it in this
- 4:16Speaker 2: robotic voice, and he always just repeats phrases, just cliches
- 4:21Speaker 2: the interns of it. For this war of choice. You know,
- 4:25Speaker 2: he'll always said the president for this war of choice.
- 4:30Speaker 2: So they want to play him up. That robot. You know,
- 4:33Speaker 2: he looks like that the robot look in his eyes,
- 4:36Speaker 2: So they're going to make a much more out of
- 4:38Speaker 2: Keem Jeffries. The other reason they like him, if you've
- 4:41Speaker 2: watched them carefully, clearly no personality. He's a robot and
- 4:45Speaker 2: he's low iq, which is perfect when you can find
- 4:48Speaker 2: a real low IQ Democrat, it's great to put the
- 4:51Speaker 2: spotlight on them. So you're going to see a lot
- 4:53Speaker 2: more of that. Kamala Harris is scaring a lot of
- 4:58Speaker 2: people in the Democratic Party because it looks like she's
- 5:02Speaker 2: really taken twenty twenty eight seriously. She had a good
- 5:05Speaker 2: chance to run for governor California. It would have been
- 5:08Speaker 2: a good opportunity for her. It's a big open field
- 5:11Speaker 2: on the Democratic side, and she turned it down, which
- 5:15Speaker 2: indicated she's looking at the presidency in twenty twenty eight.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Now we're seeing behind the scenes that she's working hard,
- 5:21Speaker 2: pulling a lot of strings for twenty twenty eight. Now
- 5:24Speaker 2: she's got a top team of people that know how
- 5:28Speaker 2: to do that. Now she stinks as a candidate. She's
- 5:32Speaker 2: the worst candidate, just giggling, laughing, drunk, can't really articulate anything.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Horrible candidate. Has a track record of getting absolutely nothing
- 5:43Speaker 2: done in office, total failure, but this is perfect for
- 5:46Speaker 2: Democrats because far left and checks a lot of boxes.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Black Indian woman, female from California, all these boxes democratic
- 5:56Speaker 2: boxes she checks. But again, she's got people as far
- 6:01Speaker 2: as campaign people, presidential campaign people. Gavin Newsom doesn't have that,
- 6:07Speaker 2: that fat slab JB. Pritzker doesn't have that. You know,
- 6:11Speaker 2: try to take their state people, but they don't have
- 6:13Speaker 2: a lot of experience running big national campaigns. So Kamala
- 6:18Speaker 2: pretty much is in the lead right now. Knows. Some
- 6:20Speaker 2: people have pointed out the fact that she has all
- 6:22Speaker 2: these top people, but she stinks as a candidate. Means
- 6:26Speaker 2: you're going in the race with the best car in
- 6:28Speaker 2: the race, but you're a terrible driver, so that never
- 6:32Speaker 2: really quite works out. Rama Manuel is the other one,
- 6:36Speaker 2: trying very hard behind the scenes. Now he's an extremely
- 6:39Speaker 2: unpleasant guy, Rama Manuel. He's a dirty politician, like a rough, tough,
- 6:44Speaker 2: dirty fighter, but very smart, very cunning. Knows how to
- 6:49Speaker 2: work that machine, that democratic machine. So keep an eye
- 6:53Speaker 2: on him. Hey, that big virus on that ship. You
- 6:56Speaker 2: keep hearing about this virus where the death rate is
- 6:59Speaker 2: like fifty It's the most deadly virus. Everybody's terrified of it.
- 7:03Speaker 2: And everybody's worried about a pandemic coming here again, you know,
- 7:08Speaker 2: be locked down again, wearing masks, stay at home. You know,
- 7:13Speaker 2: you can only remember that. Remember the beginning of the pandemic.
- 7:15Speaker 2: This first few months, about all you could do is
- 7:17Speaker 2: go to the supermarket. Everything was closed, every restaurant, everything.
- 7:21Speaker 2: And then towards the middle of the year, end of
- 7:24Speaker 2: the year, the restaurants started to open, but it was
- 7:26Speaker 2: only ten percent. You had to eat outside. It was
- 7:29Speaker 2: such such a strange break. Could that come back? I
- 7:31Speaker 2: don't think so, because every expert you talk to says
- 7:34Speaker 2: this virus is not airborne. It takes extremely close contact
- 7:39Speaker 2: to transmit. It can be transmitted by rats through their urine,
- 7:44Speaker 2: through their PCs, through that kind of but it's this
- 7:48Speaker 2: would be more like AIDS, where it takes very close
- 7:51Speaker 2: contact to transmit virus. Experts.
- 7:54Speaker 4: One thing I do want to just you know, kind
- 7:57Speaker 4: of calm the public. There's only about thirty k of
- 8:00Speaker 4: hauntavirus a year in the US.
- 8:02Speaker 3: It is super rare.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a terrible name, haunta virus, but very very rare.
- 8:08Speaker 2: It has been in the US for starting in like
- 8:12Speaker 2: nineteen ninety three, like thirty years ago. There's tiny amounts
- 8:15Speaker 2: they found on Ndred, couple of hundred cases. That was it,
- 8:17Speaker 2: and it never really spread because again it's not airborne.
- 8:21Speaker 2: It takes really really close contact.
- 8:24Speaker 4: The bottom line is the rats that are in South
- 8:26Speaker 4: America Argentina for example, are different than the rats in
- 8:29Speaker 4: the United States. Yes, there is Haunta virus in the
- 8:31Speaker 4: United States. It's a different strain than the one in
- 8:34Speaker 4: South America. It is not spread from person to person.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the rats down. So South American rats have it.
- 8:41Speaker 2: American rats. They got plenty of garbage, they got food
- 8:44Speaker 2: all over the street to eat. They're not gonna they're
- 8:46Speaker 2: not going to carry anything. So Mick Chagger's been in
- 8:51Speaker 2: town all week promoting his album. He was on the
- 8:53Speaker 2: Tonight Show. He doing all kinds of stuff. What do
- 8:56Speaker 2: you think he does at night? What do you what
- 8:58Speaker 2: do you picture Mick Jagger doing? No, you see, it's
- 9:01Speaker 2: very strange. You think he's the rough, tough rock and
- 9:04Speaker 2: roll now he Wednesday night he went to Danielle's new restaurant,
- 9:12Speaker 2: which is this very elegant French steakhouse. It's called Le
- 9:16Speaker 2: Tete Dior by Danielle and we got to get aim
- 9:19Speaker 2: picture of Mick Jagger, know, something like that. Last night
- 9:22Speaker 2: he went to the Ballet Spring Gala. What happened to
- 9:26Speaker 2: Mick Jagger? French restaurant to ballet. It's not the same
- 9:29Speaker 2: mc jagger anymore. So, Mom, Donnie is apparently behind the
- 9:35Speaker 2: scenes getting pressured by a lot of people in New York,
- 9:38Speaker 2: a lot of political people, a lot of government people,
- 9:41Speaker 2: to stop the war on billionaires. If these people leave,
- 9:46Speaker 2: if these billionaires start leaving, it is economic disaster for
- 9:52Speaker 2: New York. You know. For a guy who claims the
- 9:54Speaker 2: love tax revenue, why would you chase away the guys
- 9:58Speaker 2: that paid most of the tax revenue. It's like owning
- 10:00Speaker 2: a restaurant and chasing away your biggest customers. Any restaurant
- 10:04Speaker 2: where you got a handful of guys there, your single
- 10:07Speaker 2: biggest customers, spend a fortune. Why would you insult them,
- 10:11Speaker 2: annoy them, try to chase them out. It's ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Many of them go to Florida, many of them go
- 10:19Speaker 2: to Texas. Here's Ron DeSantis.
- 10:21Speaker 5: When you go in front of somebody's house.
- 10:23Speaker 2: I remember he did that awful Ken Griffin video pointing
- 10:26Speaker 2: at Griffin's housing, that's where he lives, and trying to
- 10:29Speaker 2: demonize and target this guy, here's DeSantis.
- 10:32Speaker 5: When you go in front of somebody's house and try
- 10:34Speaker 5: to surveil that and put that out to the world
- 10:37Speaker 5: in the hopes, I believe they were trying to row
- 10:39Speaker 5: people up to maybe do something even worse.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Of course, you're gonna.
- 10:43Speaker 5: Want to run from that area and you're going to
- 10:45Speaker 5: want to embrace Florida. So I'm not surprised that they're
- 10:48Speaker 5: doing that, And obviously we'll just keep doing the job
- 10:51Speaker 5: that we're doing down here.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Yeah, So a lot of people behind the scenes, a
- 10:55Speaker 2: lot of political people, even Democratic officials, just pressure mom, Donnie,
- 11:02Speaker 2: ease up on that stuff. You know, these billionaires that
- 11:04Speaker 2: have already left over the last ten years and have
- 11:07Speaker 2: gone to Florida cost US six hundred and sixty billion
- 11:12Speaker 2: in lost revenue. All the billionaires, all the people that
- 11:15Speaker 2: moved to Florida. That was six hundred and sixty billion
- 11:20Speaker 2: that we lost over ten years. So figure it's sixty
- 11:24Speaker 2: six seventy let's say it's sixty eight billion a year.
- 11:28Speaker 2: That's a lot of revenue to lose from a state.
- 11:30Speaker 2: You know, our budget in New York is what it was,
- 11:33Speaker 2: one hundred and twenty billion. It's half the city's budget
- 11:36Speaker 2: left gone. So a lot of people. Let's see if
- 11:40Speaker 2: it works. Let's see if they make any headway with
- 11:43Speaker 2: Mom Donnie. It's not going to be easy the local people.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Hukal is trying to get the budget done. She's quite
- 11:50Speaker 2: the goofball, like a chicken running around with its headcut off,
- 11:52Speaker 2: doesn't know what she's doing. Announces the budget deal.
- 11:56Speaker 3: That's it.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Budget deal is done, but the assemble Speaker, the head
- 12:01Speaker 2: of the legislature has to explain everybody it's not done.
- 12:04Speaker 3: There's no budget deal. I said to her last night.
- 12:06Speaker 6: I was comfortable with her saying to y'all, we were close.
- 12:10Speaker 3: It is close. But this is what's wrong with this process.
- 12:13Speaker 6: It's like, I'm gonna only talk about policy, and then
- 12:17Speaker 6: when i think the legislature has given me what I
- 12:20Speaker 6: want on policy, then we'll talk about money. There's so
- 12:24Speaker 6: many open issues on money.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Yeah, remember you had Juliani, Bloomberg, Patacki, that's who was
- 12:32Speaker 2: running things. She had the Republicans controlling half the legislature.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Now you got this guy Carl Heasty, You got all
- 12:38Speaker 2: these crazy left wing coops. Now, for about thirteen years.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Last thirteen years, Democrats have controlled every inch of the government, everything,
- 12:48Speaker 2: city hall, state government, the Assembly, the legislature, state senate, governor, mayor.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Everybody was a Democrat last thirteen years. So if they're
- 13:00Speaker 2: yelling about an affordability crisis, guess who's responsible. They've been
- 13:04Speaker 2: running everything for thirteen years. So if there's all this
- 13:06Speaker 2: stuff wrong with affordability, the rent of this, it's their fault.
- 13:11Speaker 2: They own it. Hey, throughout the show, Let's take a
- 13:13Speaker 2: look back at Don Rickles. It's his one hundredth birthday today.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Don Rickles a hundred today. He was a regular visitor
- 13:22Speaker 2: on this show. Let's take a listen to a little
- 13:25Speaker 2: Don Rickles on this show. Not long joy see. Let
- 13:27Speaker 2: me ask you, but that you're on the Letterman Show
- 13:29Speaker 2: the other night. You're doing something. You looked at the
- 13:30Speaker 2: guy and you said, see, it's all attitude. It's all attitude.
- 13:34Speaker 2: It's the way you tell those jokes. I mean, actually,
- 13:36Speaker 2: you've never even told a joke in your life.
- 13:38Speaker 7: Never, Mark, It's true. I'm glad to observe that. No,
- 13:40Speaker 7: I believe it's I always said attitude. You know, I
- 13:44Speaker 7: can say to a guy you know the sweat is ridiculous,
- 13:47Speaker 7: and they'll laugh. Don't ask me, but I know why,
- 13:50Speaker 7: because there's the way to say a thing. Uh, Comedians
- 13:53Speaker 7: today each one has I think with God, I had
- 13:57Speaker 7: a lot of rejection as you can imagine. Yeah, got
- 14:00Speaker 7: Joe Gandori Restssol, you know, the elegant gave me the
- 14:04Speaker 7: big training behind there you know in Brooklyn. Yeah, what
- 14:07Speaker 7: I was doing boy Mitzman's weddings, Catholic dances and anything
- 14:10Speaker 7: that moved. I was doing shows and have a good background.
- 14:14Speaker 7: You know.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Hey, but Don Rickles, you're become the biggest comedy on
- 14:16Speaker 2: earth and you have never in your life told a joke.
- 14:19Speaker 2: In the beginning, these guys must have said to you,
- 14:21Speaker 2: you got to tell some jokes.
- 14:22Speaker 3: You got to do something like that.
- 14:23Speaker 7: Absolutely, I know I never did. I never did. I
- 14:26Speaker 7: used to do it like on me another comedians. They
- 14:28Speaker 7: used to do impersonations that were kind of sad. But yeah,
- 14:32Speaker 7: that that kept me going in the market.
- 14:34Speaker 3: All right.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Now, Now tell me I always ask you this for
- 14:36Speaker 2: twenty years. You never explained. Tell me the secret. Like
- 14:38Speaker 2: when you say to a guy, when you say the letterman,
- 14:40Speaker 2: that's it. You're finished. You say it, and it's not insulting,
- 14:44Speaker 2: it's funny.
- 14:44Speaker 3: How do you do it?
- 14:45Speaker 7: Well, thank you. It's all in your personality. You can't
- 14:48Speaker 7: teach somebody that, you know.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Yeah, you know.
- 14:52Speaker 7: I you know Frank Sinata Garis so here was my
- 14:55Speaker 7: biggest spoil. He was so nobody could do what I
- 14:57Speaker 7: did with Frank. He was so great to me. I mean,
- 15:00Speaker 7: you know, we'd be eating and you know, talking. You say, no, pastor,
- 15:04Speaker 7: but I said, can't you see, Frank, I'm busy? What
- 15:06Speaker 7: do you want? And he would fall him up.
- 15:09Speaker 3: You know. All right?
- 15:09Speaker 2: Now, if I said can't you see I'm busy, it
- 15:11Speaker 2: would sound stupid.
- 15:12Speaker 3: What what is it that you do?
- 15:13Speaker 8: You?
- 15:13Speaker 2: I know one thing you do, you're an incredible actor.
- 15:15Speaker 2: There were a lot of notes in that when you said.
- 15:17Speaker 7: That, well, thank you.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Yeah, you said you're like the Sinatra of comedy. You like,
- 15:21Speaker 2: have incredible acting ability built in the way.
- 15:23Speaker 7: Thanks, but I appreciate that.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you know.
- 15:26Speaker 7: I went to the American Academy at Draadic Arts. They
- 15:28Speaker 7: try to keep it quiet.
- 15:30Speaker 2: A great time. Richols one hundred years old today. Well,
- 15:34Speaker 2: well we'll play some more of them a little later on. Hey, well,
- 15:36Speaker 2: take some calls next. Eight hundred three two one zero
- 15:40Speaker 2: seven ten is the number. Eight hundred three two one
- 15:44Speaker 2: zero seven ten. Set up, you said on the iHeartRadio
- 15:47Speaker 2: app to do w o R to hear Mark live.
- 15:50Speaker 9: Set another for Mark's podcast to hear him anytime.
- 15:55Speaker 2: Now back to Mark Simone on do wo R, Hey,
- 16:00Speaker 2: let's take some calls. Eight hundred three two one zero
- 16:04Speaker 2: seven ten is the number. Look at this calling sal
- 16:06Speaker 2: from Patsy's, the legendary restaurant West fifty sixth Streets. Sal
- 16:10Speaker 2: from Patsy's How you doing?
- 16:13Speaker 9: Hey, good morning, buddy, How are you good?
- 16:16Speaker 2: Drive it into work?
- 16:16Speaker 9: I can tell you could tell you, Oh yeah, thank go.
- 16:22Speaker 9: But it was so funny you're talking about Don Rickles.
- 16:24Speaker 9: There's so many great stories. He was so funny. I
- 16:27Speaker 9: couldn't even take his order. He was making me laugh
- 16:29Speaker 9: so much. And then, like you said, he was the
- 16:31Speaker 9: only way he'll get away, the only one who could
- 16:33Speaker 9: get away with it and say these things in a
- 16:35Speaker 9: way that you just had to crack up. You was
- 16:38Speaker 9: so was so funny and certainly the truth in that
- 16:41Speaker 9: interview you had with him there he was the only
- 16:43Speaker 9: one who could get away with stuff with Sinatra, but
- 16:45Speaker 9: not only get away with it, but that he loved him.
- 16:48Speaker 9: And I think the most famous story and this clip
- 16:52Speaker 9: you could watch it on the Johnny Closson show. Rank
- 16:55Speaker 9: to tell us the story about that when Don Rickles
- 16:59Speaker 9: was there and he did this twice to him. He
- 17:00Speaker 9: did it once at Patches Italian restaurants and he didn't
- 17:03Speaker 9: and on the West Coast Italian restaurant.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Wait, that's this famous story where he begs Frank come
- 17:09Speaker 2: over the table, sail out to me because I'm with
- 17:11Speaker 2: this girl. I'm trying to impress her.
- 17:12Speaker 3: So Sinatra was trying to impress the girl. Yeah.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Yeah, So the later Sinatra walks over, Hello, Don, how
- 17:19Speaker 2: are you Frank? Can't you see I'm eating? What are
- 17:20Speaker 2: you bothering me for?
- 17:21Speaker 3: Sir?
- 17:23Speaker 2: Every time those two guys told the story, I've noticed
- 17:25Speaker 2: it's not on the air but off you It was
- 17:28Speaker 2: always a different restaurant, it was always a different city.
- 17:30Speaker 2: So that's why I thought it was a myth. But
- 17:32Speaker 2: you actually saw it.
- 17:34Speaker 9: Yes, he actually did it at the restaurant he was
- 17:38Speaker 9: and you know, Sinatra was upstairs and he finished his
- 17:41Speaker 9: express and stuff, and he you know, he fulfilled his
- 17:45Speaker 9: promise to come down because you Don Rickles was with
- 17:48Speaker 9: the woman who's trying to impress her that he knew
- 17:50Speaker 9: Frank Sinatra. Can't you see? Can't you see? I'm eating
- 17:54Speaker 9: here leading alone?
- 17:57Speaker 2: Now, the young Don Rickles, before he was really famous,
- 18:00Speaker 2: although he was very successful nightclubs, was a young he's
- 18:03Speaker 2: kind of very heavy. He had a lot of much
- 18:05Speaker 2: heavier back then. He was always chasing women. He was
- 18:08Speaker 2: chasing after every woman's singer on the bat him so uh.
- 18:12Speaker 2: But and Rickles and his wife, they were they were
- 18:15Speaker 2: the nicest people. They were like not very show busy.
- 18:17Speaker 2: They were just kind of like regular tourists. They were
- 18:19Speaker 2: going to Broadway shows and all that stuff, regular.
- 18:22Speaker 9: Old fashioned people. Just a great guy, and you took
- 18:26Speaker 9: about acting. I don't remember even he was in some
- 18:28Speaker 9: of the Twilight Zones. Do you remember that?
- 18:30Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 18:31Speaker 2: Yeah, before he got really famous, he was a big
- 18:33Speaker 2: nightclub star and he didn't acting. He was in gomer Pile,
- 18:36Speaker 2: he was in the Munsters, he was in the Twilight Zone.
- 18:39Speaker 2: He was.
- 18:41Speaker 9: It's so funny to watch him back then, but he was.
- 18:44Speaker 9: He was a good actor.
- 18:45Speaker 1: He really was that well and just just a great guy.
- 18:48Speaker 9: I can't believe it.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Would have been a un Yeah, you got his picture
- 18:52Speaker 2: on the wall.
- 18:52Speaker 9: Right, of course, I got a picture of him eating
- 18:56Speaker 9: I take a meatball.
- 18:57Speaker 3: All right.
- 18:58Speaker 2: So when you go to Patsy, he's the great Italian
- 19:00Speaker 2: landmark restaurant West fifty six between Broad Williams, don't just
- 19:04Speaker 2: rush in. When you walk in the door, stop and
- 19:06Speaker 2: look at all the pictures on the wall. They're pretty amazing,
- 19:09Speaker 2: all these famous customers. Well South, thanks for calling.
- 19:13Speaker 9: Oh, thank you, buddy, b Well, you take care.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Let's go to Mike in Florida. Mike, how you doing.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Good morning, Mark, Mike. I had a comment about Rickles,
- 19:24Speaker 1: But a quick thing about Leonnon uh not Leondon. Jeffries
- 19:27Speaker 1: a queen Jeffries. Watching when he speaks his hands are
- 19:30Speaker 1: moving in a very awkward way is something they must
- 19:32Speaker 1: have all gone to Democrat how to speak school, because
- 19:35Speaker 1: he Gavin Newsom, they all move their hands and it
- 19:38Speaker 1: doesn't jibe with what they're saying.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Well, in his defense, he is a robot, so blame
- 19:44Speaker 2: the programmer, whoever program that Robut that's true.
- 19:46Speaker 1: They need they need nude coders. But getting back to Rickles,
- 19:50Speaker 1: I'm glad you guys mentioned what a great actor. He
- 19:52Speaker 1: was he you know, because he shows up in all
- 19:54Speaker 1: this early TV, the Andy Griffith Show and uh and uh,
- 19:59Speaker 1: you know, but maybe Big Pile, and he was great
- 20:02Speaker 1: and Kelly's.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Heroes, Yeah, Dick Van Dyke Show.
- 20:07Speaker 1: What's that famous story where he was doing Cpo sharkey
- 20:10Speaker 1: And was it Carson who went over to give him
- 20:12Speaker 1: a hard time or was it the other way around?
- 20:15Speaker 2: No, he broke Carson's cigarette box the night before, so right, Johnny,
- 20:19Speaker 2: That's what it was. It was actually the whole thing
- 20:21Speaker 2: was actually pretty fake and rigged, but it was cute.
- 20:24Speaker 2: But he said, I've had this cigarette box for you
- 20:27Speaker 2: since New York. That's not true. It's a whole different
- 20:29Speaker 2: cigarette box in New York. But and Rickles knew they
- 20:32Speaker 2: were common. It was all pretest.
- 20:34Speaker 3: Oh he did that.
- 20:35Speaker 1: I wish he wasn't in on the joke. That would
- 20:37Speaker 1: have been because he was so great. I mean, he
- 20:39Speaker 1: looked really looked like he was taking aback when Carson
- 20:42Speaker 1: confronted him.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Very good actor. As you said, you seeing those actors today,
- 20:46Speaker 2: you could just take a camera, handheld camera guy could
- 20:49Speaker 2: follow you across the hall, down the hall into another sta.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Back then, you couldn't do that. They were big, heavy show.
- 20:54Speaker 1: That was a big production. And come to think of it,
- 20:56Speaker 1: you're right.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Yeah, the cables wouldn't have reached. They had to have it.
- 20:58Speaker 2: It all had to be all set up. But thanks
- 21:01Speaker 2: for calling, Mike. Great call. Let's go to Joe in Nutley,
- 21:04Speaker 2: New Jersey. Joe. How you doing?
- 21:07Speaker 10: Yeah, Mark, how are you doing?
- 21:08Speaker 3: Great?
- 21:10Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 21:10Speaker 10: I just wanted to comment on Mick Jagger. I remember
- 21:13Speaker 10: back in twenty nineteen he stopped at a place at
- 21:16Speaker 10: TikTok Diner. Yeah, on his way to MetLife Stadium for
- 21:20Speaker 10: a show. And compared to what he's eating now at
- 21:23Speaker 10: this fancy press rest French restaurant you mentioned, Yeah, he
- 21:27Speaker 10: had a tailor ham, egg and cheese sandwich with disco fries.
- 21:33Speaker 3: C You still have it on the menu.
- 21:34Speaker 10: It's called the Mick Jagger.
- 21:36Speaker 2: That's the old Mick Jagger. Old Mick Jagger was in
- 21:39Speaker 2: biker bars, he was downtown in clubs. He's now he's
- 21:42Speaker 2: at the French restaurant. He's at the ballet last night,
- 21:45Speaker 2: that's the Spring Galla Ballet Gala. It's not the it's
- 21:49Speaker 2: not the old Mick Jagger.
- 21:50Speaker 10: That's what I wonder as these rock stars age, if
- 21:54Speaker 10: they're going to go from like tailor ham cheese and
- 21:57Speaker 10: egg and to prune Danish.
- 22:01Speaker 2: Yeah, so I don't want to mention names. Some of
- 22:04Speaker 2: these fine new restaurants, the biggest new French restaurants in
- 22:07Speaker 2: New York are the biggest new They make a big
- 22:10Speaker 2: point of going old school, very old fashioned, which means
- 22:13Speaker 2: they come to your table with a cart. Like you
- 22:15Speaker 2: order caesar salad, they make it right at your table.
- 22:18Speaker 2: That used to be a big thing in the fifties
- 22:20Speaker 2: and the Madman days, you know, making it table side.
- 22:23Speaker 2: They would have a big bowl and I would crack
- 22:25Speaker 2: the eggs and then cut up the lettuce, and then
- 22:27Speaker 2: right in front of you they'd make the caesar salad
- 22:29Speaker 2: from scratch. When they do it now, it is the
- 22:33Speaker 2: most annoying thing in the world. You got to sit there.
- 22:36Speaker 2: What are you supposed to have to watch the guy
- 22:37Speaker 2: for ten minutes? Make a season? Just make it in
- 22:39Speaker 2: the kitchen, just bring it out. And I don't want
- 22:42Speaker 2: the waiter of the captain making it. I want the
- 22:43Speaker 2: guy in the kitchen to makes a two thousand of
- 22:45Speaker 2: them a week. He's better at it. It's some of
- 22:49Speaker 2: those old traditions. It's good they're gone. Hey, when we
- 22:52Speaker 2: come back to the Great Entertainment Reporter Roger Friedman, we
- 22:55Speaker 2: got a lot to talk to him about. Coming up
- 22:58Speaker 2: next on seven to ten w R, It's more.
- 23:02Speaker 3: More Mark Simone on sevent ten w R.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Hey, Roger Friedman, The Great Entertainment Reporter is website Showbiz
- 23:13Speaker 2: for one one dot com. It's great stories there every
- 23:16Speaker 2: day Showbiz for one one dot com. Roger Friedman, How
- 23:21Speaker 2: you doing.
- 23:22Speaker 3: I'm great, good morning. How are you Mark?
- 23:24Speaker 2: Good? Yeah? Tell us about these Rolling Stones. They're in
- 23:27Speaker 2: New York all week. Now. Mick Jagger goes to the
- 23:30Speaker 2: Ballet Spring Gala. That's not the Mick Jagger we know
- 23:33Speaker 2: and love.
- 23:34Speaker 3: What kind of.
- 23:37Speaker 8: Apparently Mick Jagger and Jimmy Fallon put on a little
- 23:40Speaker 8: show last night at the Ballet Oh to raise money.
- 23:44Speaker 8: Oh yeah, so they were. They were there, and this
- 23:48Speaker 8: was right after they had been on the Jimmy Fallons
- 23:51Speaker 8: Tonight show night before last, where Mick was announcing the
- 23:57Speaker 8: new Rolling Stones album. It's the sixty second year of
- 24:01Speaker 8: the Rolling Stones, Mark sixty second book year. It's the
- 24:05Speaker 8: sixty second year of the Rolling Stones.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Can you believe it.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Wow. Well, you know, in the good old they go
- 24:11Speaker 2: on the Ed Sullivan Show, sixty million people see him.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Now they're going the Jimmy Fallon Show, six hundred thousand
- 24:17Speaker 2: people see him. It's thing, they're not the same anymore.
- 24:21Speaker 8: Well, whatever they did did work, because they have two
- 24:26Speaker 8: singles in the iTunes Top one top ten today, so
- 24:32Speaker 8: that's pretty good.
- 24:33Speaker 3: And I like their new song.
- 24:35Speaker 8: They've a couple of new singles out, and they'll have
- 24:37Speaker 8: a new album out July tenth, and will it be
- 24:41Speaker 8: their last album?
- 24:42Speaker 3: Maybe or maybe not. You never know.
- 24:45Speaker 8: They're not a touring group anymore because Keith Richards has
- 24:50Speaker 8: arthritis and they're not going to go from town to town,
- 24:53Speaker 8: but they're gonna still keep making records. And the records sound,
- 24:57Speaker 8: you know, they sound pretty good and most of the
- 25:00Speaker 8: stuff they're must better than most of the things we're
- 25:02Speaker 8: hearing from contemporary aris.
- 25:04Speaker 2: So they sound good. But I noticed they're mixing the
- 25:07Speaker 2: levels different, so the kind of covering up Jagger's voice
- 25:10Speaker 2: a little, and.
- 25:10Speaker 8: Uh, well everyone's covering up everyone's voiceless these days. But
- 25:16Speaker 8: but the main thing is, I think it's pretty cool
- 25:18Speaker 8: that the Rolling Stones Paul McCartney and Ringo Star all
- 25:22Speaker 8: have albums out are coming out.
- 25:24Speaker 3: In the next month or so.
- 25:25Speaker 8: Ringo Star Ringo has a great album out called Long
- 25:31Speaker 8: Long Road, produced by T Bone Burnette. It's a lovely album.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Barnette, you know, yeah, he's still alive.
- 25:41Speaker 8: Barnette's a young guy. You're mixing up with somebody else. Well,
- 25:44Speaker 8: who's the other guy? I'm thinking of t some T
- 25:46Speaker 8: Bone something Bone Steak an old record years ago. Oh yeah, no,
- 25:54Speaker 8: T Bone Burnette is you know, I didn't know sixty
- 25:57Speaker 8: probably I don't know how old he was.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Uh.
- 26:00Speaker 8: Anyway, you know he's married to the to Calie Corey
- 26:04Speaker 8: who wrote them, and Lewis well that's his problem anyway.
- 26:09Speaker 8: Steve Bernet's done two albums now, a new one with
- 26:12Speaker 8: Ringo and one a couple of years ago called look Up.
- 26:15Speaker 8: They're really good albums. They're the best work Ringo's done
- 26:18Speaker 8: in about forty years. So, and Ringos I think he's
- 26:22Speaker 8: eighty five or eighty six. Paul McCarty's turning eighty four,
- 26:27Speaker 8: The Rolling Stones H's add up to one thousand and
- 26:32Speaker 8: and they're all putting out music and it's all really good.
- 26:35Speaker 8: So I could have done a lot of credit. You know,
- 26:36Speaker 8: they keep going and this is their life that they
- 26:40Speaker 8: don't want to stop. And they have plenty of fans.
- 26:42Speaker 8: I mean, if they're doing live shows, they they're drawing
- 26:47Speaker 8: like crazy.
- 26:49Speaker 2: But right here on the sixth floor of iHeart, on
- 26:51Speaker 2: this very floor, you have all the top music stations
- 26:54Speaker 2: in the world. Got Z one hundred, yes, light FM,
- 26:59Speaker 2: you got Katie. Everything is up here. They're not you
- 27:02Speaker 2: can't get They're not going to play a Rolling Stone
- 27:05Speaker 2: single or a Ringo Star single anymore.
- 27:09Speaker 3: Well I think you one or four point three?
- 27:11Speaker 8: Yeah once actually, yeah, they'll play it and then the
- 27:15Speaker 8: light stations will play it.
- 27:16Speaker 3: Definitely.
- 27:17Speaker 2: I wouldn't count on that. Oh yeah.
- 27:19Speaker 3: In fact, there's a new today.
- 27:21Speaker 8: There's a Ringo and Paul have a single out together
- 27:24Speaker 8: called Home to Us that's really die. So I hope,
- 27:27Speaker 8: I hope it gets played. Look, everything can't be justin Bieber. Yeah, yeah,
- 27:31Speaker 8: you know, I'm moderated. I'm the other day. There's a
- 27:35Speaker 8: podcast coming out soon and I'll let you know when
- 27:38Speaker 8: it comes out. It's the history of Atlantic Records. And uh,
- 27:42Speaker 8: I moderated a panel the other night for a podcast. Uh,
- 27:46Speaker 8: and we we talked about the you know, the real
- 27:48Speaker 8: music from the real the real days of Aretha and
- 27:52Speaker 8: Ray Charles and that kind of thing. And uh and
- 27:55Speaker 8: even Eric clapped in, you know, Leila and that kind
- 27:57Speaker 8: of stuff. Allman Brothers and and things are not what
- 28:01Speaker 8: they used to be.
- 28:03Speaker 2: So are you saying the Rolling Stones they'll never tour again,
- 28:05Speaker 2: they'll never be another Rolling Stones concert? Well, I think
- 28:08Speaker 2: they'll be concerts. I think there might be. I think
- 28:11Speaker 2: they might do.
- 28:11Speaker 8: Like you know, the new trend is like Harry Styles
- 28:15Speaker 8: is going to do thirty shows at Madison Square Gardens fall,
- 28:19Speaker 8: So the new trend is to go to one place
- 28:22Speaker 8: and make people come there.
- 28:24Speaker 3: But they don't.
- 28:25Speaker 8: Some of the artists don't want to get up and
- 28:27Speaker 8: go from town to town anymore, which is going to
- 28:30Speaker 8: be hard for the smaller cities that you know, dependent
- 28:33Speaker 8: on these shows. But here in New York, we're very lucky.
- 28:37Speaker 8: We have Madison Square Garden. Everybody wants to play there.
- 28:41Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know, they found recently because you're right,
- 28:44Speaker 2: they don't want to go through the airports, the you know,
- 28:46Speaker 2: the hotels for the tour. It's rough. So they found
- 28:50Speaker 2: that if you play in New York, your fans will
- 28:52Speaker 2: actually fly here to see the concert. It's happening more
- 28:55Speaker 2: and more they fly in for a concert.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Of course let them. Definitely, they'll definitely comes to New York.
- 29:01Speaker 3: I mean if it were like you know, Sheboygan, it
- 29:04Speaker 3: was different. But you know who wouldn't come to New
- 29:07Speaker 3: York for anything?
- 29:08Speaker 2: Yeah? Hey, so I tell us about that. The Michael
- 29:10Speaker 2: Jackson movie Devilwarre's product too. How are they doing at
- 29:13Speaker 2: the box office.
- 29:14Speaker 8: Oh, they're booming. They're both booming. Michael Jackson just crossed
- 29:20Speaker 8: two hundred million dollars. They're really really doing well. I
- 29:27Speaker 8: don't think there'll be a sequel to the Michael Jackson movie.
- 29:29Speaker 8: A lot of people want it, but I don't think so.
- 29:31Speaker 8: As I said before, it would be called Law and
- 29:33Speaker 8: Order Michael Jackson. But the present movie is fun because
- 29:40Speaker 8: of the music and the dancing and the costumes, and
- 29:44Speaker 8: it's I call it fact free. But it doesn't seem
- 29:47Speaker 8: to matter to anybody. They just they just like sitting
- 29:50Speaker 8: down and hearing the music. And the result is that
- 29:53Speaker 8: Michael Jackson has I think twelve singles on the iTunes
- 29:57Speaker 8: Top one hundred and twelve albums on the the album chart,
- 30:01Speaker 8: so it's done a huge amount of business for the
- 30:04Speaker 8: for the estate.
- 30:06Speaker 2: And a Broadway. How's Broadway doing.
- 30:10Speaker 8: Broadway is doing fine. The Tony nominations came out this week.
- 30:15Speaker 8: Everyone's excited about them. There are two really good comedies
- 30:18Speaker 8: that I recommend to people. You've got to see a
- 30:20Speaker 8: play called The Ballistters at Manhattan Theater Club and another
- 30:25Speaker 8: one called Becky Shaw.
- 30:26Speaker 3: They're both very, very funny plays and worth the time.
- 30:32Speaker 2: I looked at the list of the top musicals for
- 30:37Speaker 2: Best Musical the Tony Awards. Normally they're all big names
- 30:40Speaker 2: you can hear about all the don't even recognize most
- 30:43Speaker 2: of the names on that list.
- 30:45Speaker 8: Now because the Tony Awards don't like to give nominations
- 30:48Speaker 8: to people from Broadway from Hollywood.
- 30:50Speaker 3: So all the people who all the people who are
- 30:52Speaker 3: on Broadway.
- 30:53Speaker 8: From Hollywood have been mostly snubbed by the Tony Awards
- 30:56Speaker 8: this year. This is like a typical This is traditional
- 31:00Speaker 8: that Hollywood stars come to town think they're going to
- 31:03Speaker 8: get Tony nominations and they get nothing. They do get
- 31:06Speaker 8: big box office and people want to see them, but
- 31:09Speaker 8: the Tony Awards are a little snobby and they like
- 31:12Speaker 8: to give their awards just to their own people, you
- 31:15Speaker 8: know what I mean.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a little annoying, but I understand, I can
- 31:18Speaker 2: I can see both points. Don't on that one both.
- 31:20Speaker 8: Yeah, totally. I mean, they don't want it's like carpetbagging.
- 31:24Speaker 8: They don't want people coming into town and taking over.
- 31:27Speaker 8: So they're very provincial in that way, which is sort
- 31:30Speaker 8: of amusing. But I think they must tell Hollywood stars
- 31:33Speaker 8: in advance before they come to Broadway.
- 31:35Speaker 3: You're not going to get a Tony Awards, so don't
- 31:37Speaker 3: worry about it.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Well. Well, Roger Freeman, great stuff, and everybody check out
- 31:42Speaker 2: his web page. His website is showbiz for one one

- 32:23Speaker 2: to go follow me on Instagram. I just lost a
- 32:25Speaker 2: couple hundred followers. You might have had the same thing.
- 32:28Speaker 2: We all of a sudden, you lost a lot of followers.
- 32:30Speaker 2: It's not your fault. Instagram has been doing a purge
- 32:34Speaker 2: all week looking for bots, fake followers. There's plenty of
- 32:38Speaker 2: them out there, so they wiped out all the bots
- 32:42Speaker 2: and it can effected, so everybody's numbers will drop a little.
- 32:44Speaker 2: I just lost like two hundred followers just this morning,
- 32:48Speaker 2: So follow me on Instagram. It's Mark Simone NYC at Instagram.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Mark Simone NYC at Instagram. More real followers. That's good.
- 32:59Speaker 2: The President goes to China next week end of the
- 33:03Speaker 2: week next week. Now it's not one hundred percent. There's
- 33:07Speaker 2: quietly saying behind the scenes it may not happen if
- 33:11Speaker 2: something goes crazy, ran something, But right now the schedule
- 33:16Speaker 2: is he will go to China next week for a
- 33:19Speaker 2: couple of days. Sean Hannity or Sean Hannity will go
- 33:23Speaker 2: with him and cover the whole thing from China. Barack
- 33:28Speaker 2: Obama desperately trying to make a comeback. He kind of vanished. Well,
- 33:32Speaker 2: he was making a fortune when he got out of office,
