- 1:54Speaker 3: You know, you would win?
- 1:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I completely agree. You have one of those? Do
- 1:58Speaker 5: you have one of those spinny shelves for the new
- 2:01Speaker 5: y spinner?
- 2:02Speaker 4: Dude?
- 2:02Speaker 3: Those things are so expensive. Have you guys looked to
- 2:04Speaker 3: buy those? No, Well, they're.
- 2:07Speaker 4: Expensive buying them new it is. But when I got
- 2:11Speaker 4: mining it was actually for it was like a pre
- 2:13Speaker 4: de surprice, though I think it's filled. It's like you
- 2:18Speaker 4: have to like hulk out to move it.
- 2:21Speaker 5: Yeah, or when it's empty full? Oh okay, that makes sense. Yeah,
- 2:27Speaker 5: VHS man. I I had to make a pinned comment
- 2:30Speaker 5: on my video I posted today because Brian got upset
- 2:33Speaker 5: the v I didn't include VHS's in the all formats.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Well, did you include beta Max?
- 2:38Speaker 5: I know I'm trying to sure laser disc listen, dude,
- 2:45Speaker 5: leave me.
- 2:47Speaker 3: What kind of collector are you? You call yourself?
- 2:49Speaker 4: Picking out all the flaws in that video.
- 2:52Speaker 5: Jez Brian, did you choose?
- 2:55Speaker 3: Did you pick sixteen millimeter film? Yeah? I did? Actually,
- 2:59Speaker 3: there's a yeah, this whole segment I did.
- 3:02Speaker 5: What about Uh, Steve, did you get the Texas chains
- 3:05Speaker 5: asking turbine media set? Don't do the listeners cannot hear
- 3:12Speaker 5: your eyebrows moving up and now.
- 3:15Speaker 4: Eyebrow? Did you raising? I did?
- 3:20Speaker 3: Hell?
- 3:21Speaker 5: I love that, like one one, one hundredth of the
- 3:26Speaker 5: numbers of these sets have gone to just us.
- 3:31Speaker 4: You know what, It's okay, it's going to a good home.
- 3:33Speaker 5: Fourteen and forty four.
- 3:34Speaker 3: I think it was limited to right.
- 3:37Speaker 5: There was definitely fomo with that in my Oh yeah, am.
- 3:41Speaker 4: I I think Jordan hit the nail on the head
- 3:44Speaker 4: when he said, after this, you basically are all like
- 3:49Speaker 4: Texas Texas chain saw it out right?
- 3:51Speaker 6: Was that was that I said, I have a release,
- 3:56Speaker 6: and now I have this, and it's like, you pretty
- 3:58Speaker 6: much have everything that there is to offer in terms
- 4:02Speaker 6: of content.
- 4:03Speaker 5: Do you have a plastic chainsaw?
- 4:07Speaker 3: In terms of content? That's everything that that's right you're
- 4:11Speaker 3: gonna have.
- 4:12Speaker 5: I see. The reason I want the Dark Sky one
- 4:15Speaker 5: isn't so much because of the Chainsaw. I just want
- 4:18Speaker 5: the fiftieth anniversary slipcover. Yeah, you know, because fifty years
- 4:23Speaker 5: from now, when I'm eighty five, I'm gonna be like, wow,
- 4:26Speaker 5: look I got this fiftieth anniversary slipcover.
- 4:28Speaker 3: And then they're going to release the one hundredth anniversary.
- 4:32Speaker 5: Oh I bet I bet you there's gonna be like
- 4:33Speaker 5: a fifty third anniversary, fifty fourth anniversary, fifty fifth anniversary.
- 4:40Speaker 4: I don't think I need to own any more like
- 4:42Speaker 4: copies of it. I feel like I'm pretty good. I mean,
- 4:44Speaker 4: I have the VHS.
- 4:46Speaker 5: Listen, it's easy for y'all to say owning the second
- 4:48Speaker 5: site ones.
- 4:50Speaker 4: That's true, just I mean release special features.
- 4:56Speaker 3: It has got the documentary in there.
- 4:57Speaker 5: I still need it. It has the David Gregory documentary.
- 5:00Speaker 5: The Turbine one has the David Gregory documentary.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Yeah, but there's produced only one that's only on theirs.
- 5:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I know, we interviewed the director.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Man, then then why don't you have it?
- 5:12Speaker 5: I would What am I gonna do? I? I asked him,
- 5:15Speaker 5: Steve Can. I asked him if there was like a
- 5:17Speaker 5: vault with all these out of print things in it,
- 5:20Speaker 5: to try to be like hey, and I actually said
- 5:22Speaker 5: to him, I'm missing the specific one that I would
- 5:25Speaker 5: love to have, hoping he would be like, you know what, man,
- 5:28Speaker 5: since you gave such a great interview to me, then
- 5:32Speaker 5: I would send it your way. And that did not work.
- 5:34Speaker 3: We're gonna put it back into production. No fire, fire
- 5:42Speaker 3: up the warehouse. We're gonna make one just for Chris,
- 5:46Speaker 3: Just for Chris.
- 5:47Speaker 5: Honestly, that's what I expect. Never getting to the point,
- 5:51Speaker 5: Welcome back to After Hours.
- 5:52Speaker 3: This is our.
- 5:54Speaker 5: Beyond the Blood uh spin off show where basically we
- 5:58Speaker 5: just hang out and uh bullshit of about what we bought,
- 6:00Speaker 5: what we've been watching, really anything we want. This is
- 6:03Speaker 5: kind of no rules. It's all improv no scripts, you know,
- 6:07Speaker 5: I've been watching a lot of kill Tony lately, so
- 6:10Speaker 5: I've been kind of, you know, in this whole improv.
- 6:14Speaker 5: But you know what I mean.
- 6:15Speaker 4: Look at you, man, dude, you watch kil Tony, He's
- 6:18Speaker 4: just gonna start roasting us.
- 6:21Speaker 3: You got inspiration now.
- 6:22Speaker 5: I got to work just early enough today that I
- 6:25Speaker 5: could listen to the new episode. And I feel silly
- 6:28Speaker 5: because I'm in my store alone with headphones on, laughing audibly.
- 6:34Speaker 5: I don't know what's going on there, but you know,
- 6:38Speaker 5: so anyway, joined here by as always the handsome, very
- 6:42Speaker 5: shiny tonight. You look very good. You look very geen,
- 6:46Speaker 5: very ready, radiant, very Yes, you look very you look
- 6:50Speaker 5: very radiance films tonight. It was always shown by Steve
- 6:54Speaker 5: from After Hours Video. How are you, Steve?
- 6:56Speaker 4: What's happening? Guys? Happy to be here, Ready to talk
- 6:59Speaker 4: some movies.
- 7:00Speaker 5: Jordan's you also look beautiful. You look like you spent
- 7:05Speaker 5: the day chopping wood. Is that what you did today?
- 7:12Speaker 3: I came face to face, actually, I was breaking down
- 7:14Speaker 3: cardboard a lot today and I came face to face
- 7:16Speaker 3: with a black widow that was probably the size of
- 7:19Speaker 3: a silver dollar. Confirmed, dude, I've got pictures I will
- 7:24Speaker 3: send to you, dude, that thing scared for ship out
- 7:27Speaker 3: of me.
- 7:28Speaker 4: Yeah, she's not coming to California.
- 7:31Speaker 5: Confirmed.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Like confirmed. We have black widows here.
- 7:35Speaker 4: And man, listen, you just go on uh go online, man,
- 7:40Speaker 4: compare and contrast.
- 7:41Speaker 5: We have black widows here in Jersey. I'm sure you
- 7:44Speaker 5: in the middle have black widows.
- 7:46Speaker 3: It's not a coast.
- 7:47Speaker 4: At Michigan Lakes, we got lakes freeze.
- 7:51Speaker 5: Where there's lakes, there's there's placids. Man, you can get
- 7:56Speaker 5: Google are there.
- 7:57Speaker 4: We've got lakes and street violence in Detroit.
- 8:00Speaker 5: I was gonna say, you gotta worry about more about
- 8:02Speaker 5: getting shot. Yes, black widows are found in Michigan. You listen.
- 8:05Speaker 5: Your state is the home.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Oh okay, not to be confused, not to be confused
- 8:12Speaker 1: with the home starring uh Pete Davidson, but the home
- 8:16Speaker 1: of the Northern black Widow.
- 8:20Speaker 5: So there you're you're done for.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Dude, was that on a box you were folding?
- 8:25Speaker 3: No, it was a box I was breaking down.
- 8:31Speaker 4: Wait, it was a picture you sent.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Then you can see the see the black widow. That's
- 8:39Speaker 3: a close one, but there's a further away one.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Confirmer Tony. If you let it bite you would you
- 8:45Speaker 4: get Spider Man LI like abilities.
- 8:47Speaker 5: Wait, where's the red where's the red thing on its butt?
- 8:51Speaker 3: I know I always thought that, So I don't want
- 8:54Speaker 3: to attempt to get that close at that angle.
- 8:57Speaker 5: I think. I think it's fucking scary.
- 8:58Speaker 4: Dude, What did you do with it?
- 9:02Speaker 3: I killed it?
- 9:03Speaker 4: Oh?
- 9:05Speaker 3: You know what's funny is so we were we were unboxed,
- 9:08Speaker 3: taking the boxes down, and we were spraying it with
- 9:12Speaker 3: like aunt roach killer and didn't do anything. And then
- 9:17Speaker 3: so my wife grabbed a driver club was an old one,
- 9:22Speaker 3: and dude, she just was hacking the ship out of it,
- 9:25Speaker 3: like just going nuts after it, like dude hatchet style,
- 9:30Speaker 3: and she killed it. I was very proud of her.
- 9:34Speaker 4: Hell, dude, the reason it didn't die is because it's
- 9:36Speaker 4: from Oscorp.
- 9:39Speaker 3: It's gonna come back like three times bigger.
- 9:43Speaker 5: You're it all man, You're gonna wake up tomorrow with powers.
- 9:48Speaker 5: It's gonna be You're gonna you're gonna take you're it's
- 9:50Speaker 5: gonna be blurry with your glasses on. You're gonna take
- 9:53Speaker 5: them down, not blurry, and.
- 9:55Speaker 4: Then you're gonna have chocolate bar abs.
- 9:59Speaker 3: You're gonna be like, hey, it's going on like, I'm fine.
- 10:04Speaker 4: I always think when he comes down the steps and
- 10:06Speaker 4: he just like completely scales like the side of the stairwell.
- 10:11Speaker 5: That always bothers me because he didn't get anywhere faster,
- 10:16Speaker 5: like it probably would have been quicker if he just
- 10:17Speaker 5: finished the down the steps.
- 10:20Speaker 4: Yeah, but it looked cool, it did.
- 10:21Speaker 3: It did look cool with ship.
- 10:23Speaker 5: I saw an AI version where he did that and
- 10:24Speaker 5: then like whooped the ship out of Uncle Ben. See
- 10:30Speaker 5: AI is good in some some uses. Yes, you know,
- 10:34Speaker 5: so guys, let's uh, let's talk about let's talk about
- 10:39Speaker 5: some you guys been spending money lately.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Or what not?
- 10:46Speaker 3: As much as much I've spent more?
- 10:50Speaker 5: Did you? Did you guys get anything from the Vinegar
- 10:52Speaker 5: Syndrome halfway to Black Friday?
- 10:55Speaker 3: So no, I got, Well, I did the only thing.
- 10:59Speaker 3: I ordered. Nothing on sale, but I ordered. Why can't
- 11:05Speaker 3: uh the control to pre ordered the Mangler?
- 11:09Speaker 5: Oh yeah, that was that's part of my I will
- 11:12Speaker 5: be getting that via the When I did the pre
- 11:14Speaker 5: order during the secret titles.
- 11:17Speaker 3: The Mangler with that glow in the dark slip, it's
- 11:21Speaker 3: pretty sweet.
- 11:22Speaker 5: I So I got crap. I can't get on to
- 11:26Speaker 5: their site because I forgot that they're.
- 11:29Speaker 4: Released, what the mangler it?
- 11:35Speaker 5: So I think it ships for partners or that not partners,
- 11:41Speaker 5: the subscribers, and then it ships for people like me
- 11:43Speaker 5: who pre ordered it during like before the title got announced, okay,
- 11:48Speaker 5: and then for everyone else it'll ship. I think that's correct.
- 11:52Speaker 5: I think I read that. I think if you order
- 11:54Speaker 5: it when it's a secret title, you ship after the subscribers.
- 11:56Speaker 5: That's like the advantage just is from buying it.
- 11:58Speaker 4: Then, Chris, I'm actually close to the Alchemist.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Just go there to the archive or the archive art
- 12:05Speaker 3: would you call it the Alchemist? The archivist is what
- 12:08Speaker 3: I called it, but the archive.
- 12:09Speaker 5: Yeah, no, I'm not drive three and a half hours ago, So.
- 12:14Speaker 3: There you go three and a half. I don't know.
- 12:17Speaker 3: I don't know how travel.
- 12:18Speaker 5: Works over there, honestly. I've been there once during the
- 12:21Speaker 5: halfway to Black Friday week because they kind of do
- 12:23Speaker 5: like an in store sale all week for it, and
- 12:26Speaker 5: the new titles are impossible to get there unless you're
- 12:28Speaker 5: there like day one, like they have a line outside.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Basically.
- 12:32Speaker 5: That's cool though, because they do a whole store. They
- 12:35Speaker 5: do a whole like used media sale and all kinds
- 12:37Speaker 5: of stuffs. Yeah. So I'm not. I don't want to
- 12:42Speaker 5: go when it's that that crazy. But I also I
- 12:47Speaker 5: reached out to uh Tony from Gloria Video. He got
- 12:52Speaker 5: he got me a copy of and I couldn't get
- 12:55Speaker 5: the title because their site is down. Of the new
- 13:00Speaker 5: I think, I think I'm going to order it. He's
- 13:02Speaker 5: got to put it in a thing for me. The
- 13:05Speaker 5: new Mitchell Brothers title that came out from Melu scene,
- 13:09Speaker 5: so I got that as well. It's called the Autobiography
- 13:13Speaker 5: of It's right here, right, it's right here. Uh, the
- 13:19Speaker 5: auto Biography of a Flea.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 13:25Speaker 4: So I definitely want to pick up Mutant and I'm
- 13:29Speaker 4: gonna get the Mangler at some point.
- 13:32Speaker 5: Dude, the Mangler I wasn't expecting. And it's funny because
- 13:35Speaker 5: during there, when they were teasing it and they said
- 13:39Speaker 5: by a by a master of literal on screen murder,
- 13:41Speaker 5: I was like, I didn't even think about Freddy Krueger.
- 13:45Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true.
- 13:46Speaker 5: Robert England, Yeah, didn't even think about it.
- 13:49Speaker 4: What was the other title? Worth two?
- 13:51Speaker 5: Yeah, it was the I got it right here. The
- 13:54Speaker 5: human are human Lanterns. It's a Shaw Brothers.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I saw that as a Chris scored with
- 14:01Speaker 3: this one.
- 14:02Speaker 5: Yeah Yeah. It says here that equally wealthy Master Ton
- 14:07Speaker 5: and Master Lung are both competing to be honored at
- 14:10Speaker 5: the upcoming Festival of Lanterns. When Ton presents a Lung
- 14:14Speaker 5: with his ornately crafted lantern, Lung realizes to best his rival,
- 14:18Speaker 5: he must create an even more beautiful lantern. Lung engages
- 14:21Speaker 5: the strange craftman craftsman Chao Fang, imploring him to create
- 14:25Speaker 5: the most sensational lantern ever seen. It sounds like trump.
- 14:29Speaker 5: Fang agrees on the condition that his work be conducted
- 14:32Speaker 5: a complete secrecy. Soon, panic sets in throughout the region
- 14:34Speaker 5: as beautiful young women start to go missing, their skinned
- 14:37Speaker 5: corpses discovered thereafter. Says it is a cornerstone in the
- 14:42Speaker 5: Shaw brothers unique approach to confining traditional w wos, woopsia
- 14:46Speaker 5: and kungo filmaking trips, but incredibly bloody, weird and stylish
- 14:49Speaker 5: nineteen Days Horror, and it says that this is the
- 14:52Speaker 5: longest and most complete version ever on video, including extended
- 14:56Speaker 5: gore sequences never before available on disc, along with a
- 14:59Speaker 5: never on video alternate ending presented only in the Cantonese
- 15:03Speaker 5: export version.
- 15:06Speaker 4: That's the real deal.
- 15:08Speaker 3: Sounds like a lot of fun.
- 15:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:10Speaker 5: So there's a couple of other things that I want.
- 15:14Speaker 5: I'm gonna hold off on. I need the films of
- 15:16Speaker 5: a Stato Volume four and Rolls Royce Baby, the Jeff
- 15:21Speaker 5: Franco Delirium released Rolls Royce Baby. But yeah, it's just
- 15:26Speaker 5: cool because these are thick ass boxes.
- 15:28Speaker 3: These two secret titles. I'm stoke look at these.
- 15:32Speaker 4: Jordan's you anything this month that you haven't had a
- 15:34Speaker 4: chance to watch yet?
- 15:40Speaker 3: The one I was gonna talk about, I mean, I
- 15:42Speaker 3: was just gonna pull this talk about today. Just that
- 15:45Speaker 3: I'm excited about is the Grapes of Death and The
- 15:48Speaker 3: Living Dead Girl, the two of John Rome films. I
- 15:52Speaker 3: got them. I just have a chest to watch.
- 15:53Speaker 5: Yet, Jean Rolon, Chris you anything, Uh No, I do.
- 15:59Speaker 5: I So I have a couple of things out for
- 16:04Speaker 5: like pre order that haven't come in yet. I did
- 16:07Speaker 5: do a trade with our buddy Robbie Miles, who was
- 16:11Speaker 5: just on our Evil Dead Rise episode, and I did
- 16:14Speaker 5: get the I don't know if you guys have seen this.
- 16:18Speaker 5: Have you guys seen the Jorg bu Garrett set from
- 16:21Speaker 5: Erroo video that was an Erro Video story exclusive?
- 16:24Speaker 4: Uh?
- 16:26Speaker 5: So it's.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Let's say, when was when was this?
- 16:32Speaker 5: So for those who don't know, and I could be
- 16:36Speaker 5: butchering the name, I think it's bu Garrett. He directed
- 16:41Speaker 5: most famously Necromantic one and two. Oh okay, yeah, so
- 16:47Speaker 5: arrow And I know this is gonna be terrible for
- 16:48Speaker 5: audio listeners because you can't see what I'm showing you guys,
- 16:51Speaker 5: But this is the Memento Mori.
- 16:54Speaker 4: I do remember that very nice.
- 16:57Speaker 5: So this contains I mean, I don't I don't like
- 17:01Speaker 5: this packaging. It's the like slide out book with the
- 17:06Speaker 5: plastic sleeves that the discs sit in. But this contains Necromantic.
- 17:14Speaker 5: And one thing I like here is it comes with
- 17:15Speaker 5: the Grindhouse version as well, that I really like. I
- 17:20Speaker 5: can't say this is it dirt toadskin, Necromantic two, shrom
- 17:28Speaker 5: and then a fifth disc which has like the extended
- 17:30Speaker 5: cut of Nechromantic two and a whole bunch of other extras.
- 17:33Speaker 5: But one thing that's cool is that the center here
- 17:36Speaker 5: is like a thick ass book, Like, look how.
- 17:41Speaker 3: Much writing is in here. It's crazy.
- 17:45Speaker 5: It's a fool on like big like, I mean, it's
- 17:50Speaker 5: probably it.
- 17:51Speaker 4: Might be the biggest book I've ever seen like.
- 17:54Speaker 5: Let's see if there's look at this, dude, it's like
- 17:57Speaker 5: full on Jake from Steel Book of would love this.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Look at this.
- 18:05Speaker 5: Yeah, it's was seventy it's one hundred pages.
- 18:10Speaker 4: So you've got that large booklet that comes in it.
- 18:12Speaker 4: And how many films totally.
- 18:15Speaker 5: Four one, two, three.
- 18:18Speaker 4: Four would you end up trading him?
- 18:21Speaker 5: I traded him the Umbrella Monkey Shines, the Georgia Merrow,
- 18:27Speaker 5: and I also traded him my Vinegar Syndrome four K
- 18:30Speaker 5: of Summer of eighty four. Very nice for this, so
- 18:37Speaker 5: not bad. I already had an Achromantic one and two,
- 18:40Speaker 5: but there was a couple of cuts that are in
- 18:42Speaker 5: this that weren't available in that. This also comes with,
- 18:45Speaker 5: you know, the other films because I originally had back
- 18:47Speaker 5: before I had a region free player, I had the
- 18:50Speaker 5: Arrows your collection. It was called Love and Death and
- 18:54Speaker 5: I had troum In the other film in it, and
- 18:55Speaker 5: I got rid of it because I wasn't reagent free
- 18:57Speaker 5: yet and I've been wanting this, but I didn't want
- 19:00Speaker 5: to pay like the seventy nine dollars. This was on
- 19:03Speaker 5: the site and he listed it. He and his story
- 19:05Speaker 5: one day posted and it was like, oh, is anybody
- 19:07Speaker 5: want to trade? Because he had two of them? So yeah,
- 19:11Speaker 5: I'm super seriod. Yeah. I don't know how often I'm
- 19:15Speaker 5: gonna throw in Necromantic, but you know, I mean it's
- 19:17Speaker 5: sick to have.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Listen, Jordan, have you ever seen those movies? I have not.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Non you guess I've definitely heard of them.
- 19:27Speaker 5: Yeah, they're pretty wild man, Steve, are you a fan
- 19:28Speaker 5: of the necromantic films?
- 19:31Speaker 4: I have not seen them?
- 19:33Speaker 5: Oh okay, all right, well do you guys want to
- 19:35Speaker 5: talk about some movies?
- 19:38Speaker 4: Oh?
- 19:39Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, well you kicked it off.
- 19:42Speaker 5: I was gonna talk about something I actually watched.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Oh I wanted to wanted me to kick it off
- 19:46Speaker 3: that way, Let's talk about Necromantic.
- 19:48Speaker 5: I was gonna chat about about Send Help okay, from
- 19:54Speaker 5: director Sam Raimi. I watched this on who knew?
- 19:58Speaker 4: Didn't look up to your expectation?
- 20:01Speaker 5: Oh dude, I mean I was super excited to see it. Speechless.
- 20:13Speaker 5: I went in not really expecting anything. I think I
- 20:15Speaker 5: saw the trailer, but I didn't know what to expect
- 20:19Speaker 5: from it, and it was completely different than any minor
- 20:23Speaker 5: expectation I did have. I wasn't expecting it.
- 20:27Speaker 3: To be.
- 20:31Speaker 5: So sweet and so brutal.
- 20:35Speaker 3: At the same time.
- 20:37Speaker 5: Like I've never seen a movie with more ups and downs,
- 20:41Speaker 5: meaning like just emotional waves in my life. It goes
- 20:45Speaker 5: from these moments where you really think these characters are
- 20:48Speaker 5: gonna end up okay to just some of the meanest
- 20:53Speaker 5: betrayals ever I've ever seen in a film before. And
- 20:59Speaker 5: one thing I will say, and I know, I love
- 21:03Speaker 5: to see sam REI me making movies again, but this
- 21:07Speaker 5: is the old The CGI just always takes me so
- 21:11Speaker 5: far out of it.
- 21:11Speaker 4: Yep.
- 21:12Speaker 5: Yeah, It's like it's so during like you have the
- 21:17Speaker 5: bar scene when she kills a boar and it's it's
- 21:21Speaker 5: spilling CGI blood and then it's intercutting with real blood
- 21:25Speaker 5: splattering on her and it was just like everything that
- 21:29Speaker 5: and then there's these there's a few other shots, like
- 21:34Speaker 5: later in the movie, there's a scene where she gets
- 21:35Speaker 5: a finger in her eye and it begins pushing her
- 21:38Speaker 5: eye and the CGI just looks terrible, like and I
- 21:43Speaker 5: don't know if it's terrible out of like you know,
- 21:46Speaker 5: not really trying to make it look photo real, but
- 21:50Speaker 5: it just kind of gave me like it's like who
- 21:52Speaker 5: framed Roger Rabbit vibes at times, so what like I
- 21:59Speaker 5: can I can ignore it the most part, but it
- 22:00Speaker 5: did take me out a couple times. I also feel
- 22:06Speaker 5: like there's a moment in the movie about three quarters
- 22:08Speaker 5: of the way through where she begins to do something
- 22:14Speaker 5: to Dylan O'Brien that the movie turns a one to
- 22:19Speaker 5: eighty on you on and tricks you with that. I
- 22:21Speaker 5: wish they had just gone through with I think it
- 22:23Speaker 5: would have made it a better movie.
- 22:24Speaker 4: Oh, I know what you're talking about.
- 22:25Speaker 5: Yep, So I feel like there was I feel like
- 22:30Speaker 5: I'm so mixed on it.
- 22:31Speaker 3: I think it was a good movie.
- 22:32Speaker 5: I think it's fun. I think the characters are great.
- 22:34Speaker 5: Rachel McAdams is awesome.
- 22:40Speaker 7: If I like for Sam Rami, well, I told my wife,
- 22:46Speaker 7: there's like flashes of Sam Raimi in it, Like there's
- 22:49Speaker 7: like really big flashes of him.
- 22:51Speaker 5: It doesn't feel as cohesive as consistent as you like
- 22:54Speaker 5: Drag Me to Hell. You know, Drag Me to Hell
- 22:57Speaker 5: was pretty unnerving all the way through, and you had
- 23:01Speaker 5: these big outrage of Ramy moments where send help. Feels
- 23:05Speaker 5: like a few Raimi standout moments, and the rest was
- 23:09Speaker 5: just kind of like a drama whatever. Yeah, I really
- 23:13Speaker 5: enjoyed the Danny Elfman score. It's very different for Danny Elfman.
- 23:17Speaker 5: It's very rare in that score that his typical style
- 23:21Speaker 5: comes through. I thought that the score was very good,
- 23:23Speaker 5: especially in the quieter moments like there's these really like
- 23:27Speaker 5: almost you know, romantic comedy style like piano moments and
- 23:31Speaker 5: string moments that are very very nice that I loved that.
- 23:34Speaker 5: I actually was listening to on the score today, the
- 23:36Speaker 5: standalone score, so I liked it. It's definitely not top
- 23:42Speaker 5: five Raimy for me. I absolutely hated the ending as well,
- 23:45Speaker 5: So yeah, yeah, I don't know. Somebody messaged me today
- 23:50Speaker 5: and they were like, what's your top five Raimi? And
- 23:52Speaker 5: I'm like Evil Dad, Evil Dead two dragged me to Hell,
- 23:56Speaker 5: dark Man, and then like spider Man two. So yeah,
- 24:05Speaker 5: I'd probably put it somewhere around like what's that sports
- 24:10Speaker 5: movie he made? I always forget that what that's called
- 24:13Speaker 5: for the love of the game was that him.
- 24:18Speaker 4: I put a simple plan up there. That's other good one.
- 24:21Speaker 5: A simple plan is definitely top definitely like right outside
- 24:25Speaker 5: the top five for me.
- 24:26Speaker 4: That's what I was thinking.
- 24:28Speaker 5: I probably put send help with like the Quicken the Dead.
- 24:35Speaker 4: Yeah, it's because as you were talking about them, trying
- 24:38Speaker 4: to like kind of frank them, and you obviously have
- 24:42Speaker 4: like the Evil Dead trilogy. Dark Man's definitely up there.
- 24:45Speaker 4: Spider I love the first Spider Man. I mean both
- 24:47Speaker 4: one and two are really good, but you definitely go
- 24:51Speaker 4: back to the first one a little bit more.
- 24:53Speaker 5: And it was funny because I went on letterbox and
- 24:55Speaker 5: I saw that I saw that Ken really liked it,
- 24:59Speaker 5: and then he actually said in his review, like watching
- 25:01Speaker 5: it a second time, it kind of bumped it down
- 25:04Speaker 5: for him. He didn't like it as much. So I
- 25:06Speaker 5: don't know, I'm curious to see how movie how this
- 25:08Speaker 5: movie age is. It's got his typical Bill Pope's a cinematographer, like,
- 25:14Speaker 5: it's got all the typical cat all, the typical crew
- 25:17Speaker 5: of a Sam Raimi. Bob Morowski was the editor owner
- 25:20Speaker 5: of Grindhouse Releasing. He edited the film. So it just
- 25:24Speaker 5: didn't I'm not too sure what it was that just
- 25:27Speaker 5: didn't really didn't sit all the way with me. I
- 25:31Speaker 5: loved I loved moments of it, yeah, but I kind
- 25:35Speaker 5: of found myself, kind of found myself like probably forty
- 25:38Speaker 5: five minutes. Then I got up and like started folding
- 25:40Speaker 5: the laundry while watching it, and kind of doing other
- 25:44Speaker 5: things while watching it, more than just sitting down and
- 25:46Speaker 5: focusing on it.
- 25:48Speaker 4: Did you guys see obsession yet?
- 25:51Speaker 3: Yeah? Well I went and saw it. Yeah, I saw
- 25:54Speaker 3: that was really good. Opening night. It was good.
- 25:58Speaker 4: Oh, you can probably go.
- 25:59Speaker 5: To its one hundred times budget success.
- 26:02Speaker 3: Definitely. I think it definitely is worth the hype.
- 26:08Speaker 4: Yeah. That was I think the most fun I've had
- 26:10Speaker 4: so far this year.
- 26:11Speaker 5: My brother in law said it was dull.
- 26:15Speaker 3: Hmm, what's his favor?
- 26:18Speaker 5: Teach your own, Yeah, teach your own. Just it's been
- 26:22Speaker 5: pretty like, I mean, I'm sure I'm gonna love it.
- 26:24Speaker 5: It's been pretty unanimously.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Yeah. That and Hokum are both i I brilliant.
- 26:31Speaker 5: Yeah, so have to see that.
- 26:32Speaker 4: We were supposed to see it the other night and
- 26:33Speaker 4: it didn't happen.
- 26:35Speaker 5: Yeah, we know, you know, we know the hokum, we
- 26:38Speaker 5: know the hogum.
- 26:40Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like an ongoing saga. And now now I
- 26:43Speaker 4: feel like less theaters are playing it near me. So
- 26:48Speaker 4: it's now getting tougher and tougher to go see this
- 26:51Speaker 4: movie because now it's gone from like some of my
- 26:54Speaker 4: favorite theaters in the area to now only AMC has
- 26:58Speaker 4: it nearby.
- 26:59Speaker 3: And what movie I didsy was Passenger in that movie
- 27:02Speaker 3: was utter dog shit.
- 27:07Speaker 4: Dude.
- 27:07Speaker 5: I've heard such mixed things about it.
- 27:10Speaker 3: Dude, it was I personally hated it. The cold opening
- 27:14Speaker 3: was great, which was the trailer.
- 27:17Speaker 5: I okay, let's let's chat about this here, because I
- 27:25Speaker 5: get that filmmakers like Andrea Overdal have a lot of
- 27:29Speaker 5: a lot of success, right with with like Autopsy of
- 27:32Speaker 5: Jane Doe.
- 27:32Speaker 3: People are still talking about Autops of Jane Doe.
- 27:35Speaker 5: I get it. I don't think that's a movie you
- 27:39Speaker 5: can use into marketing. Like they're like, oh, this is
- 27:44Speaker 5: this is the director of Autopsy of Jane Doe. This
- 27:47Speaker 5: is the scariest this, this is the next scariest thing
- 27:50Speaker 5: he's done. And it's like, dude, Autops of Jane Doe
- 27:52Speaker 5: came out like ten years ago. We're still using this
- 27:56Speaker 5: as like a marketing thing. Am I wrong?
- 28:00Speaker 3: And thinking that.
- 28:04Speaker 4: I've never seen it so it wouldn't really have any
- 28:07Speaker 4: I mean, wait.
- 28:08Speaker 3: For me, Yeah, I guess it's so far removed and
- 28:14Speaker 3: it was such a small movie that I think using
- 28:18Speaker 3: that as a market marketing tactic, would it really resonate
- 28:22Speaker 3: with people to make the general audience want to go
- 28:25Speaker 3: see it.
- 28:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Now, if you said maybe like the guy who brought
- 28:31Speaker 3: us story Scary Stories, Telling the Dark or the Last
- 28:35Speaker 3: Voyage of the Demeter. Maybe, I don't remember if they
- 28:39Speaker 3: said anything of the director who brought you X Y
- 28:43Speaker 3: and Z movie.
- 28:43Speaker 5: All I saw was Autopsy of Jane Doe and all
- 28:45Speaker 5: the marketing.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Wait they really said that. I haven't seen any of that.
- 28:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:51Speaker 5: One of the trailer, one of the big trailers, was like,
- 28:53Speaker 5: I think it was like a lot of the articles,
- 28:55Speaker 5: a lot of the first kind of wave marketing was like, oh,
- 29:00Speaker 5: you know, not since the Autopsy of Jane Doe as
- 29:02Speaker 5: you've been so scary.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean of his movies. I get that because
- 29:09Speaker 3: that definitely is his his like peak of scary movies. Yeah,
- 29:14Speaker 3: but this no, it just like I like I said,
- 29:18Speaker 3: I think the opening was great, which is what you
- 29:20Speaker 3: literally saw in the trailer, But then the movie shifts
- 29:26Speaker 3: and it's about someone completely different than what we saw
- 29:28Speaker 3: on the trailer. It wasn't even about them, Yeah, which
- 29:33Speaker 3: I mean whatever. There's a cool little one shot take
- 29:36Speaker 3: in the movie. They do some really cool camera work
- 29:38Speaker 3: in this movie, which I will say I thought was
- 29:40Speaker 3: really awesome, but go ahead, no, go ahead, I was saying,
- 29:48Speaker 3: what the problem I had? The big one is the
- 29:52Speaker 3: I just felt like we were treated as kids watching
- 29:55Speaker 3: the movie where they constantly and a lot of movies
- 29:57Speaker 3: do this nowadays. They constantly re mind you of a plot. Okay,
- 30:01Speaker 3: here's where we're going, here's what we're doing. Oh, here's
- 30:04Speaker 3: a callback to something we've found out earlier, and audibly
- 30:08Speaker 3: the character in the dialogue will say, you know, even
- 30:12Speaker 3: if there's no one there, this is what that said.
- 30:15Speaker 3: You know. It's kind of like I'm watching Dora the
- 30:19Speaker 3: Explorer or something, you know, where you're constantly being fed
- 30:24Speaker 3: breadcrumbs and like, oh, remember this, come on, let's go
- 30:27Speaker 3: kind of the.
- 30:28Speaker 5: Driver the driver of the car turns into camera and goes,
- 30:31Speaker 5: do you see a passenger in my car?
- 30:33Speaker 3: So that's how I found Is there a passenger in
- 30:36Speaker 3: my car? Say?
- 30:37Speaker 5: Yes, if there's a passenger in my car, all right,
- 30:43Speaker 5: that's that's like I forget. We're we're watching something newer
- 30:48Speaker 5: the other night and it's a there's a moment I
- 30:50Speaker 5: can't remember what it was, but there was something in
- 30:52Speaker 5: a house like it was a scary moment in a
- 30:54Speaker 5: house and there was just this terrible adr that you
- 30:57Speaker 5: could tell was thrown in, and it's like the characters,
- 30:59Speaker 5: here's the spooky and they turn and or something in
- 31:03Speaker 5: the shadows, and all you hear is them go, is
- 31:05Speaker 5: there something in the shadow? And I was like, yeah,
- 31:08Speaker 5: are we Why would you say? It didn't even sound
- 31:14Speaker 5: like the audio that they had been talking five seconds
- 31:17Speaker 5: ago sounded like it was clearly a dyrd and re
- 31:20Speaker 5: put in.
- 31:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I could always be jarring.
- 31:24Speaker 3: It's like, it's just no faith.
- 31:28Speaker 5: Like I think they think that people aren't gonna like
- 31:31Speaker 5: the movie because I didn't know what was going on.
- 31:34Speaker 5: There's plenty of movies that nobody knows what's going on
- 31:36Speaker 5: that we enjoy. I don't need to be spoon fed
- 31:38Speaker 5: no reminder.
- 31:39Speaker 4: I think that's a big issue with movies, is kind
- 31:43Speaker 4: of treating the audience like they're dumb.
- 31:45Speaker 5: Yeah, are you guys gonna see back rooms?
- 31:48Speaker 4: I want to say it.
- 31:50Speaker 3: I do. There's the marketing. I've been kind of well,
- 31:54Speaker 3: I think I told you guys in the chat. I
- 31:55Speaker 3: just think it's kind of funny. Some people are saying
- 31:58Speaker 3: this is going to change Hollywood movie because they're finally
- 32:02Speaker 3: recognizing these movies and seven. I don't I woantn't put
- 32:07Speaker 3: that much merit into it personally, but I do want
- 32:11Speaker 3: to see it.
- 32:12Speaker 5: I have a free ticket because of the Triple A
- 32:14Speaker 5: twenty four, so I might go. I'm off on Friday.
- 32:17Speaker 5: I might go see it if my local theater has it.
- 32:19Speaker 5: I saw today that Mark Duplas had to come out
- 32:24Speaker 5: and kind of take down the rumor of now Kane
- 32:28Speaker 5: Parsons not actually directing this movie because he's only twenty
- 32:30Speaker 5: years old. I guess there's been some rumors that he
- 32:34Speaker 5: didn't actually direct it from people that are I don't
- 32:36Speaker 5: know if just envious of the fact that he's finding
- 32:39Speaker 5: success as such a young director or what. But Mark
- 32:41Speaker 5: Duplas came out and said that he was actually hired
- 32:43Speaker 5: by the studio to come out and kind of like
- 32:45Speaker 5: supervise and help him out because he's such a young director.
- 32:49Speaker 5: And Duplas has done that on numerous occasions, and he
- 32:52Speaker 5: was straight up like, I didn't have to do nothing.
- 32:54Speaker 5: This guy directed this movie like didn't need any help.
- 32:59Speaker 3: He did what he had to do.
- 33:03Speaker 4: Interesting.
- 33:04Speaker 5: Crazy, Yeah, I don't know, so I'll see it. I'm
- 33:08Speaker 5: curious at, you know, how it comes out. I'm not
- 33:11Speaker 5: familiar with back rooms outside of the occasional like Instagram
- 33:15Speaker 5: real video that I would come across of do you
- 33:18Speaker 5: have them in the mall? And finding the back rooms
- 33:20Speaker 5: and stuff. I'm not too too caught up on exactly
- 33:25Speaker 5: what it is, and I'm hoping that doesn't detract from
- 33:26Speaker 5: my experience of it because it seems to be a
- 33:28Speaker 5: pretty standalone film. So I'm excited to check it out
- 33:34Speaker 5: if my theater's playing it.
- 33:35Speaker 4: I don't really know what to expect with it. I
- 33:37Speaker 4: think that's my only thing, and maybe that's a good thing.
- 33:40Speaker 5: I listen, man, you know what you know. You can't
- 33:43Speaker 5: expect back rooms. It's good be you.
- 33:46Speaker 4: That's my biggest fear.
- 33:49Speaker 5: But I'm gonna switch up, Jordan. Tell me about what's
- 33:51Speaker 5: something you watched this week? Man?
- 33:55Speaker 3: Well, what I've been watching this week or this month whatever.
- 33:59Speaker 3: So I got in this box set from Imprint. It
- 34:03Speaker 3: is the Neo Noir Collection, Volume four and they and
- 34:08Speaker 3: I was really interested in this collection because they had
- 34:11Speaker 3: a certain title in here that is a four K
- 34:15Speaker 3: title that was previously announced from Shout Factory Scream Factory,
- 34:20Speaker 3: and that is unlawful entry.
- 34:24Speaker 4: Hell yeah, I was.
- 34:27Speaker 3: I was very intrigued and interested to check this out.
- 34:30Speaker 3: I was curious about the four K.
- 34:33Speaker 5: Look.
- 34:33Speaker 3: The movie is is such a great movie. If you
- 34:35Speaker 3: guys haven't seen it, anybody listening, I know Steve has
- 34:38Speaker 3: seen it. You have Kurt Russell and you have what
- 34:43Speaker 3: are you saying? Madeline Stowe. They're a married couple and
- 34:47Speaker 3: one night they get a break into their house and
- 34:50Speaker 3: they called nine one one and these two police officers
- 34:53Speaker 3: show up to the house. I don't remember the other
- 34:55Speaker 3: police officers same, but Rayley Yoda is one of the
- 34:57Speaker 3: police officers and he gets a glimpse at Madeline Stowe's
- 35:02Speaker 3: character and pretty much falls for her right there, and uh,
- 35:06Speaker 3: he slowly makes his way into their relationship, tries to,
- 35:12Speaker 3: you know, form a wedge to get Kurt Russell's character
- 35:15Speaker 3: out of there because he thinks that, you know, he
- 35:19Speaker 3: he's saying, look, you, your wife deserves a better protector
- 35:22Speaker 3: than what you can give her. And man, he be
- 35:26Speaker 3: littles Kurt Russell in this movie. So, I mean, it's
- 35:29Speaker 3: it's pretty bad. But what's crazy about this movie is
- 35:35Speaker 3: this movie's a good like showcase of why police for
- 35:41Speaker 3: the most part where body cams nowadays, because my god,
- 35:45Speaker 3: like this is some there's some dark stuff in this movie.
- 35:49Speaker 3: But Raleioto, I always loved him as a villain. He
- 35:52Speaker 3: plays such an incredible villain in this movie. Now, I said,
- 35:56Speaker 3: I was excited about this about the four four K
- 35:58Speaker 3: looks great, I will say. When it starts, did I
- 36:01Speaker 3: was like, you know, it looks a little dark. But
- 36:04Speaker 3: then I got to remind us of this is a
- 36:06Speaker 3: noir film, so most of the shots take place at night,
- 36:09Speaker 3: so you know, it kind of made sense. It was
- 36:11Speaker 3: a little darker, but it looked great. I love this movie.
- 36:16Speaker 3: There's some great night shots where they go to this
- 36:19Speaker 3: like this Chinese restaurant looks great on four K.
- 36:25Speaker 4: But man, have you seen it before?
- 36:28Speaker 3: No, this is the first time. And as far as
- 36:31Speaker 3: special features, I haven't really got chance to dig into
- 36:35Speaker 3: what the what does screen factory one have? What does
- 36:37Speaker 3: this one happen? But I know this one is pretty
- 36:39Speaker 3: pretty loaded with stuff and with new stuff in here.
- 36:43Speaker 3: It's got like behind the filming of it interviews, a
- 36:46Speaker 3: bunch of archival interviews in this some audio commentaries and stuff.
- 36:51Speaker 3: But what sucks is that this is locked into that,
- 36:55Speaker 3: you know, massive expensive imprint set. So I mean, if
- 36:59Speaker 3: if you want the other films in there, that's awesome
- 37:01Speaker 3: because he's got like Wild at Heart and stuff like that.
- 37:03Speaker 3: But I need the screen factories pointing it out. So
- 37:08Speaker 3: if that's what you're interested, wait for that for a
- 37:11Speaker 3: lawful entry, right, Yeah, I'm sorry, unmuffle entry.
- 37:14Speaker 5: Yes, okay, So yeah, I was just saying I've been
- 37:16Speaker 5: waiting for an updated version, updated at least a Wild
- 37:20Speaker 5: at Heart same.
- 37:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I.
- 37:24Speaker 5: Getaway, Oh the Getaway is uh yeah, Alec Baldwin, Kim Bassenger,
- 37:29Speaker 5: James Madison, Yeah, that movie. I haven't heard about that
- 37:31Speaker 5: movie in forever.
- 37:32Speaker 3: It's got Yeah, it's got a few different I've heard
- 37:35Speaker 3: of a few of them.
- 37:37Speaker 5: Oh dude, look at this. I was just looking through.
- 37:39Speaker 5: Mulholland Falls has a new audio commentary by our producers
- 37:43Speaker 5: Ryan of The Disconnected.
- 37:45Speaker 3: And Will Dodson.
- 37:46Speaker 4: That's awesome.
- 37:49Speaker 5: I was not a fan. I think you guys saw
- 37:51Speaker 5: when I texted you earlier this week. I was not
- 37:53Speaker 5: a fan of Freeway. So if you know, if you're
- 37:57Speaker 5: diving through this set and you watch Freeway, I.
- 37:58Speaker 3: Was not a fan.
- 38:01Speaker 5: What's crazy about that movie. Is hearing Renees Elwiger say
- 38:05Speaker 5: some of the things that she does, because she talks
- 38:07Speaker 5: about some pretty pretty graphic stuff in that in that
- 38:12Speaker 5: movie is pretty shocking. But other than that, I was
- 38:14Speaker 5: not a fan of that. Steve, are you a fan
- 38:17Speaker 5: of Freeway?
- 38:20Speaker 4: I'm trying to think. I don't think I've seen it.
- 38:21Speaker 5: With the Keefer Sutherland Renees.
- 38:25Speaker 4: Didn't Vineger Syndrome release at one point?
- 38:27Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm actually I have the two back two of them. Yeah,
- 38:32Speaker 5: free Way two Confessions of a Trick Baby, which is
- 38:34Speaker 5: even worse.
- 38:34Speaker 3: My god, Chris, have you seen a level entry? No?
- 38:41Speaker 5: I haven't.
- 38:41Speaker 3: I have not it. So nobody else has put that out?
- 38:49Speaker 3: Uh No, shout Factory is supposed to be doing it.
- 38:52Speaker 3: I don't remember when their's releases their four K, but
- 38:55Speaker 3: improt was the first one to put it out.
- 38:57Speaker 5: Okay, okay, and I.
- 38:58Speaker 3: Was looking too, because a lot of times, uh imprint
- 39:02Speaker 3: will use other other labels transfers and scans and stuff,
- 39:08Speaker 3: and a lot of times they'll put it on the
- 39:09Speaker 3: disc like you can see, like on the actual disc
- 39:12Speaker 3: face it'll say shout Factory, screen Factory or whatnot. And
- 39:16Speaker 3: even when you put the disc in it'll like some
- 39:19Speaker 3: of the stuff, it'll say, shout factory will pop up. Yeah,
- 39:22Speaker 3: none of that with this one. So I don't know
- 39:25Speaker 3: if if Imprint actually did their own transfer with this
- 39:28Speaker 3: or not, but it looks.
- 39:30Speaker 5: Good, so I think it's the same with the Halloween
- 39:32Speaker 5: said right, they don't have anywhere on there that they're
- 39:34Speaker 5: using anything from the screen factory.
- 39:36Speaker 3: So they are. They are. I did watch them, and
- 39:38Speaker 3: that's but we'll say that a little because I am
- 39:41Speaker 3: kind of talking about those. But they are using screen
- 39:43Speaker 3: factory stuff. But there's a caveat to that. There's something
- 39:47Speaker 3: else they throw on.
- 39:48Speaker 5: Okay, okay, Steve, what about you?
- 39:51Speaker 4: Man?
- 39:51Speaker 5: What do you wanna do you wanna talk about it? Dude?
- 39:53Speaker 5: Let's talk, man, let's chat for a while.
- 39:54Speaker 4: What do you want to Chat's? So it's it's been
- 39:56Speaker 4: a while, and uh, I figured i'd uh set the table,
- 40:01Speaker 4: if you will, with a nice Vinegar Syndrome release. And
- 40:06Speaker 4: that's none other than Massacre. So Jordan, I know you
- 40:12Speaker 4: had a chance to see this, Chris, have you seen
- 40:14Speaker 4: this one?
- 40:16Speaker 3: Dude?
- 40:16Speaker 5: I haven't seen that one in such a long time.
- 40:18Speaker 3: Is that.
- 40:21Speaker 5: Is that one of the Baba titles?
- 40:23Speaker 4: So it's yeah, it's one of the No, no, it's
- 40:26Speaker 4: a Lucio Okay, I got Okay, you're you're not completely wrong.
- 40:31Speaker 4: It's Andrea Bianchi who he directed Burial Ground. Yeah so close.
- 40:38Speaker 4: But yeah, this one was the first time watch and
- 40:43Speaker 4: I picked this one up here within the last month
- 40:46Speaker 4: I had a chance to watch it. Overall, I felt
- 40:49Speaker 4: like it was a fun time, you know, kind of
- 40:53Speaker 4: like a trashy Italian horror film. Jordan, would you think
- 40:56Speaker 4: of it?
- 40:59Speaker 3: It was? It was good. It wasn't what I expected
- 41:02Speaker 3: for for sure. The opening sequence really lead you to
- 41:07Speaker 3: think you were getting some something pretty dark and pretty
- 41:12Speaker 3: uh almost like satanic. But then it kind of tricks you,
- 41:19Speaker 3: and you really and this really isn't spoiling anything, but
- 41:21Speaker 3: you realize not they're really on a movie set, because
- 41:23Speaker 3: then you hear, like the director, you'll cut. But there
- 41:28Speaker 3: was some moments where I thought it dragged a little,
- 41:31Speaker 3: like I kind of it slowed down a lot. The
- 41:35Speaker 3: h the acting. There was some comical some comical death
- 41:40Speaker 3: scenes in this movie. But overall it was fun.
- 41:45Speaker 4: Yeah, it's It's definitely one that I'm like eager to
- 41:49Speaker 4: revisit at some point down the line. It was a
- 41:51Speaker 4: fun watch, but I agree with what Jordan was saying,
- 41:55Speaker 4: it's not really the film that you think it's gonna
- 41:58Speaker 4: end up being. And with this one, so obviously first
- 42:04Speaker 4: and foremost, you know, four K transfer. There's also commentary
- 42:09Speaker 4: tracks on here. You have a couple interviews as well
- 42:14Speaker 4: an archival interview that they included in with it. So
- 42:18Speaker 4: it's definitely a stack with special features. I would say,
- 42:22Speaker 4: I mean, this is definitely I think worth adding to
- 42:25Speaker 4: the collection or if you catch it on sale, but
- 42:30Speaker 4: just I guess give it a watch. You know, I
- 42:34Speaker 4: don't think that this hits the same heights as Burial Ground,
- 42:37Speaker 4: for example. I think kind of it feels like something
- 42:41Speaker 4: you would see on late like HBO or you know,
- 42:45Speaker 4: something along those lines.
- 42:46Speaker 5: Not as much, not as much nipple action.
- 42:51Speaker 3: No, so you've hold up the slipcover you got, because
- 42:54Speaker 3: they made two slipcovers, correct, so that one's a better
- 42:58Speaker 3: representation of this movie. The one I got.
- 43:02Speaker 4: Whoa that looks metal as fu dude, So.
- 43:05Speaker 3: That's why I got this. So you guys, you know
- 43:08Speaker 3: it's it's got this zombie demon looking thing with a knife,
- 43:12Speaker 3: can't ready to stab this lady. That's why I thought,
- 43:15Speaker 3: we're getting that's kind of how the opening of the
- 43:16Speaker 3: movie feels like this, and then it just completely just
- 43:23Speaker 3: switches on you to more of what like what Steve
- 43:26Speaker 3: has with with his slipcover.
- 43:28Speaker 5: That the slip cover, the slipcover, Steve, that you have
- 43:32Speaker 5: reminds me of the Devil's Honey. For some reason, it
- 43:35Speaker 5: gives me Devil's honey, it does.
- 43:37Speaker 4: And it's it's a blue It's definitely I mean again,
- 43:41Speaker 4: it's it's a movie that you know. I don't think
- 43:45Speaker 4: it quite lived up to what I was expecting, but
- 43:47Speaker 4: I thought it was definitely a fun watch, and I
- 43:49Speaker 4: would encourage anyone to still check it out. I think
- 43:51Speaker 4: it's a little with special features, and I think that
- 43:54Speaker 4: itself makes it worth picking up.
- 43:57Speaker 5: Yeah, hell yeah. I I watched Steve one of your favorites.
- 44:03Speaker 4: What's that?
- 44:04Speaker 5: And the other morning I woke up it was about
- 44:06Speaker 5: six am. I think I woke up at like five
- 44:08Speaker 5: fifty five am.
- 44:09Speaker 4: Oh man, okay.
- 44:10Speaker 5: Took my dog for a walk and for some reason,
- 44:12Speaker 5: I was like, you know, I'm just feeling I'm just
- 44:14Speaker 5: feeling some type of way today and I threw on
- 44:17Speaker 5: Abel Ferira's Bad Lieutenant on four Ker first time watched
- 44:22Speaker 5: for you, man.
- 44:23Speaker 4: Oh my god, what took so long? And why?
- 44:26Speaker 3: You know?
- 44:27Speaker 5: I just I've just been watching on repeat the Nicholas
- 44:31Speaker 5: Cage Bad Lieutenant Port of New Orleans one, you.
- 44:34Speaker 4: Know, not quite the same, but.
- 44:37Speaker 5: Now I don't know. I had always heard such extreme
- 44:41Speaker 5: things about it, and it was one of those movies
- 44:43Speaker 5: where I just felt like I had to be in
- 44:44Speaker 5: a mood to watch. I definitely had to be in
- 44:46Speaker 5: a mood to watch. It's a rough sitting. Harvey Kaitel
- 44:52Speaker 5: is phenomenal. I love Abel Ferira's visual style. Forget the
- 45:00Speaker 5: cinematographer offhand that he always works with, but love the
- 45:02Speaker 5: way the movie looks, love the way it feels. It's
- 45:06Speaker 5: a movie that I that I admire for its ability
- 45:11Speaker 5: to stay in such hard scenes for so long. I mean,
- 45:20Speaker 5: it feels like the majority of the runtime of this
- 45:23Speaker 5: movie is just seeing Harvey Kaitel high or getting high.
- 45:29Speaker 5: That's majority of the runtime.
- 45:32Speaker 4: Oh, it's so slazy, It's so it's so sleazy.
- 45:36Speaker 5: And then you have Zoe Lunn popping in. She pops
- 45:39Speaker 5: in twice in the movie from Miss forty five, she
- 45:43Speaker 5: is She makes a great appearance she gives a fantastic
- 45:46Speaker 5: monologue about vampires that came out of nowhere that was
- 45:49Speaker 5: apparently written on the day. It wasn't even in the
- 45:52Speaker 5: original script.
- 45:56Speaker 3: There is.
- 45:58Speaker 5: Probably one of the most shocking rape scenes I've seen
- 46:06Speaker 5: a movie in a long time, with the attack on
- 46:09Speaker 5: the nun. It's and it's a challenging.
- 46:14Speaker 3: Movie because.
- 46:18Speaker 5: You're you're watching the downfall of a character who's already
- 46:22Speaker 5: at the end. It's not this progression of somebody who
- 46:26Speaker 5: was once good and getting worse and getting worse until
- 46:30Speaker 5: they reach their ultimate demise. From the very beginning, he
- 46:35Speaker 5: has a problem, like a bad problem, and the whole
- 46:41Speaker 5: movie you're stuck with this guy who almost essentially has
- 46:48Speaker 5: a god complex, where he literally is at one point
- 46:52Speaker 5: in the movie like I cannot die, he cannot kill me.
- 46:56Speaker 4: I think there's a lot of more ambiguity in that film.
- 47:03Speaker 4: I mean, there's definitely you see shades of Catholic guilt.
- 47:07Speaker 5: Oh the moment when he's in church and Jesus is
- 47:10Speaker 5: literally standing in the center of the views and he
- 47:14Speaker 5: Harvey Kaitzell yells at him for what feels like fifteen minutes,
- 47:17Speaker 5: asking me asking where he was, where he's been.
- 47:22Speaker 3: It.
- 47:22Speaker 5: The imagery is pretty pretty incredible.
- 47:30Speaker 4: Ken kelsh was a cinematographer.
- 47:32Speaker 5: Okay, yes, yeah, I think he did. He did Miss
- 47:35Speaker 5: forty five and a bunch of other.
- 47:38Speaker 4: Who's on the Driller Killer Dangerous game. The addiction, Yeah
- 47:45Speaker 4: that he wasn't on Miss forty five.
- 47:47Speaker 3: I was.
- 47:48Speaker 4: He was on Spookies.
- 47:49Speaker 5: Oh on Spookies? Okay, okay, yes, mix up.
- 47:53Speaker 3: I loved I loved this movie.
- 47:55Speaker 5: Man, and you know, it's with a character like him,
- 48:00Speaker 5: it is kind of challenging because you you rarely see him.
- 48:06Speaker 5: There's not a lot of contrast between like this worst
- 48:08Speaker 5: side of him and a good side of him. You
- 48:10Speaker 5: don't you rarely ever see him the good side of
- 48:12Speaker 5: him come out outside of the fact that spoiler alert
- 48:17Speaker 5: if you haven't seen Bad Lieutenant from nineteen ninety two,
- 48:21Speaker 5: But you do see that that that there is something
- 48:25Speaker 5: good there, you know, or maybe it's just a lack
- 48:28Speaker 5: of understanding, like his lack of understanding the nuns forgiveness
- 48:33Speaker 5: towards her assailants. You know, there's there's a few there's
- 48:38Speaker 5: a few moments where you kind of see what you
- 48:41Speaker 5: think is some goodness in there. But this is a
- 48:45Speaker 5: character story where the character starts off bad and just
- 48:47Speaker 5: bad is bad all the way through.
- 48:50Speaker 4: You know what I mean, It's you're watching like a
- 48:52Speaker 4: downward spiral.
- 48:53Speaker 5: I feel like he's already at the I feel like
- 48:55Speaker 5: he's already mid spy. He's already at the end of
- 48:57Speaker 5: the spiral when when when the movie starts.
- 49:02Speaker 4: One thing I have to say, and what I love
- 49:04Speaker 4: about for his films is those specifically that he's done
- 49:08Speaker 4: and Bad Lieutenants no exception, is that it captures New
- 49:14Speaker 4: York in its most like raw, gritty state. And I
- 49:19Speaker 4: feel like for a film like this, it only enhances
- 49:23Speaker 4: just like what we're watching. I mean, we're basically like
- 49:26Speaker 4: a passenger the whole way through watching all the fucked
- 49:30Speaker 4: up things that he does, you know, whether it's drug
- 49:33Speaker 4: use or you know, just like the gambling addiction. I mean,
- 49:38Speaker 4: there's like certain elements that kind of remind me of
- 49:43Speaker 4: maybe not to like the extreme sense, like how this
- 49:46Speaker 4: film is, but it does remind me in little ways
- 49:49Speaker 4: of like uncut gems, kind of like you're seeing somebody
- 49:51Speaker 4: at the at the very end of a really terrible
- 49:57Speaker 4: addiction basically, I mean, and they do share like the
- 50:00Speaker 4: gambling addiction but I'm so happy you finally saw this movie.
- 50:04Speaker 4: That's like one of my favorites. Dude.
- 50:05Speaker 5: I appreciate with with what I've seen from forever so far,
- 50:08Speaker 5: I appreciate that he sticks to like he sticks to
- 50:16Speaker 5: the bit all the way through. You know, nowadays, a
- 50:19Speaker 5: movie like this.
- 50:19Speaker 3: Would have.
- 50:21Speaker 5: You would see, you would see him as an addict,
- 50:23Speaker 5: but then there would be these moments of levity where
- 50:26Speaker 5: you kind of hope, you kind of start rooting that
- 50:28Speaker 5: he's going to come out of it, and then he
- 50:29Speaker 5: sinks back into it. There's none of that. You are
- 50:33Speaker 5: just watching this character at his worst state for a
- 50:37Speaker 5: hundred minutes and there's no levity to it.
- 50:41Speaker 4: Oh the scene where he pulls over two girls, it's
- 50:46Speaker 4: like some of the stuff he's saying, I was like, Oh,
- 50:49Speaker 4: that is not a good idea.
- 50:51Speaker 5: Yeah you have that, you have there. There's many moments
- 50:56Speaker 5: of just real character discussed here, and it's haunting, and
- 51:03Speaker 5: I really appreciate and admire the ability to to show
- 51:09Speaker 5: that much darkness as consistently as it does.
- 51:12Speaker 3: The movie never lightens up.
- 51:14Speaker 5: It never gives you a moment of like feeling good
- 51:18Speaker 5: about anything that's happening until it's over, and then you
- 51:22Speaker 5: still you feel like, you know, even the ending is
- 51:26Speaker 5: not the ending is not an upper it's it's even
- 51:29Speaker 5: more of a downer.
- 51:29Speaker 4: It's crazy, No, it's the ending is definitely I think
- 51:37Speaker 4: after watching his journey all the way through, I can't
- 51:41Speaker 4: It's almost like we don't deserve some sort of satisfying
- 51:46Speaker 4: ending for his outcome. It's not some crazy shootout or
- 51:51Speaker 4: you know, a story of redemption. It's just kind of like, okay,
- 51:54Speaker 4: and then you know that's it.
- 51:57Speaker 5: Well spoiler spoiler warning. The thing I did appreciate is
- 52:01Speaker 5: that he becomes exactly what he is called to investigate
- 52:06Speaker 5: at the beginning of the movie, because the movie begins
- 52:08Speaker 5: with a shooting in a car that he reports to
- 52:12Speaker 5: He shows up to two women shot dead in a car,
- 52:15Speaker 5: and the end of the movie, he just becomes that,
- 52:18Speaker 5: he just becomes a victim in a car.
- 52:21Speaker 4: It's crazy.
- 52:22Speaker 5: It just loops way back around it, you know what
- 52:25Speaker 5: I mean. And there's moments where like you know, because
- 52:28Speaker 5: you're wondering, like, okay, he's he's selling drugs to well,
- 52:34Speaker 5: he's collecting, he's stealing evidence to then turn around and
- 52:38Speaker 5: sell and like there's a moment when he gets to
- 52:44Speaker 5: the crime scene and he gets to the it's the
- 52:46Speaker 5: scene of a shooting in a car. He gets there
- 52:49Speaker 5: and somebody that he knows tells him if there's a
- 52:52Speaker 5: key of coke in the back. He goes to the car,
- 52:56Speaker 5: goes in, goes to pick it up and drops it
- 52:58Speaker 5: and it falls on the ground, and another detective is there,
- 53:02Speaker 5: and you can tell he gets upset and he's like, oh,
- 53:04Speaker 5: he's like, put that in evidence, Grab that, put that
- 53:06Speaker 5: in evidence. And you can kind of see like a
- 53:08Speaker 5: little bit of a look of suspicion on the other
- 53:10Speaker 5: detective's face. But it never follows through any of that.
- 53:13Speaker 5: This is not a movie about investigating somebody who's clearly
- 53:17Speaker 5: doing something wrong. It's just kind of like it's a
- 53:19Speaker 5: brief moment where you're like, Okay, maybe maybe this chick
- 53:23Speaker 5: could be up, and we never even get that far.
- 53:27Speaker 4: Where would you rank this as far as Parra's films.
- 53:31Speaker 5: It's really hard to rank this movie without thinking about
- 53:37Speaker 5: Martin Scorsese coming out and saying that this is the
- 53:39Speaker 5: best movie of the nineties. Literal quote for Martin Scorsese
- 53:44Speaker 5: said that Bad Lieutenant is the best movie in the
- 53:47Speaker 5: decade of the nineties.
- 53:49Speaker 4: I always have a close association for those two directors.
- 53:53Speaker 4: I mean, they have wild, wildly different trajectories with the
- 53:57Speaker 4: style of films that they have directed, but there's definitely
- 54:02Speaker 4: uh that grittiness UH captures live the New York energy.
- 54:07Speaker 5: My favorite able for err film is Miss forty five.
- 54:15Speaker 4: Tough.
- 54:16Speaker 5: I don't know where this ranks. I mean, I love
- 54:18Speaker 5: Driller Killer because I think that was just fucking sadistic
- 54:21Speaker 5: as all hell. So I don't know, I just really
- 54:24Speaker 5: I really enjoyed it, and I do have to watch
- 54:25Speaker 5: the documentary. It's still I just don't know, Like when
- 54:29Speaker 5: am I ever going to be in a mood to
- 54:32Speaker 5: throw one bad lieutenant?
- 54:35Speaker 4: Okay, I might watch it more than I should.
- 54:37Speaker 5: I I did end up on my phone quite a
- 54:39Speaker 5: few times because of how uncomfortable I got. You're there.
- 54:43Speaker 5: There's six seven minute scenes of of just hardcore drug
- 54:48Speaker 5: use and it just keeps going.
- 54:52Speaker 4: And it keeps outing with Harvey, hotel dance and naked.
- 54:55Speaker 5: Oh dude, you know, man is packing me gun on
- 54:59Speaker 5: this gun on a gun.
- 55:00Speaker 3: On his head.
- 55:01Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, but uh yeah, I I mean definitely very
- 55:07Speaker 5: happy I watched it was a very challenging, very challenging film.
- 55:11Speaker 5: And I'm happy that I did pick up that four
- 55:12Speaker 5: K because it looks great.
- 55:16Speaker 4: Georgie, have you seen it?
- 55:18Speaker 3: Nope? Oh, just spoiled the movie. Thanks, I can sell
- 55:23Speaker 3: it now.
- 55:25Speaker 4: No, man, you still gotta watch it.
- 55:27Speaker 5: No, I have.
- 55:27Speaker 3: I have the one on one films.
- 55:29Speaker 5: I'm sorry, that's what I have. So I'm sorry I haven't.
- 55:31Speaker 3: Seen it yet.
- 55:33Speaker 5: I I'm sorry, would.
- 55:35Speaker 4: Probably put that above Miss forty five. Really yeah, and
- 55:41Speaker 4: then you also got to remember King of New York.
- 55:42Speaker 4: That's another one.
- 55:44Speaker 5: I've never seen. I haven't seen King of New York yet.
- 55:46Speaker 3: I haven't seen that one either.
- 55:48Speaker 5: You want to spoil it for us, No, it's okay.
- 55:52Speaker 4: I'm not ready to carry that burden. Jordan.
- 55:56Speaker 5: I'm seriously sorry. I didn't know you didn't see it yet.
- 55:58Speaker 4: That's right, so I should have Jordan, you should probably
- 56:00Speaker 4: just go watch it. I mean now that it's fresh
- 56:02Speaker 4: in your mind.
- 56:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know if I'm gonna watch it tonight.
- 56:05Speaker 5: I I don't think I don't think you. I don't
- 56:08Speaker 5: think being spoiled of what happens in the movie takes
- 56:10Speaker 5: away from the impact of the movie whatsoever.
- 56:12Speaker 4: It's performance is what's what sells it. Okay, I'm telling.
- 56:16Speaker 5: You, yeah, his performance is incredible. It was uh, you know,
- 56:23Speaker 5: it was a tough one. Have you have you ever
- 56:24Speaker 5: seen the Nicolas Cage Bad Lieutenant?
- 56:27Speaker 4: It's been a long time. I don't. I don't put
- 56:29Speaker 4: them in the same tier from what I recall.
- 56:32Speaker 5: But there's also another Bad Lieutenant film coming. I believe
- 56:34Speaker 5: I'm a Japanese director.
- 56:38Speaker 1: Is it the director who did a uh yeah, yeah,
- 56:42Speaker 1: he's doing a Bad Lieutenant film TVD.
- 56:45Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 56:47Speaker 5: We'll see, We'll see.
- 56:49Speaker 4: Jordan.
- 56:49Speaker 5: What else you've been watching him buying?
- 56:52Speaker 3: Oh well, I watched this over the weekend. Actually did
- 56:56Speaker 3: a video on kind of a watch list for more
- 57:00Speaker 3: They Weakened, and this one is like a good to me.
- 57:04Speaker 3: It's like the perfect movie that transitions. You can watch
- 57:08Speaker 3: in the transition between spring and fall. That is going
- 57:11Speaker 3: to be Robin Hardy's The Wickerman.
- 57:14Speaker 4: Oh fucking love that.
- 57:18Speaker 3: So I watched that over the weekend. I'm just reminded
- 57:21Speaker 3: how great this movie is. The final cut definitely is
- 57:26Speaker 3: the best way to watch this movie. Christopher Lee, I think,
- 57:31Speaker 3: of course, I think it's obvious he is the standout character.
- 57:36Speaker 3: And in this movie, I mean, the dude has such
- 57:39Speaker 3: a presence, even his voice alone. Like there's the shot
- 57:43Speaker 3: after he uh, I forget the detective's name, he comes
- 57:49Speaker 3: back to confront him after he's saying, hey, you know,
- 57:54Speaker 3: I know this girl is still alive. And here's what
- 57:56Speaker 3: I think would happen. And he's sitting there and he
- 57:59Speaker 3: gets on the piano and kind of just sings a
- 58:01Speaker 3: little melody and do just the tambore of Christopher Lee's voice.
- 58:04Speaker 3: I think it's just so great. One of my favorite
- 58:07Speaker 3: things about this movie though, was the music. The folk
- 58:09Speaker 3: music in this I think is one of the standouts.
- 58:13Speaker 5: Yeah, the US the soundtrack on CD, and listen to
- 58:17Speaker 5: it all the time.
- 58:18Speaker 3: Man, it's so good, dude. I That's what I love
- 58:21Speaker 3: about folk music, and like ones like this is the
- 58:24Speaker 3: storytelling in the in the in the history that they
- 58:27Speaker 3: have within their music. I think it's just so incredible.
- 58:33Speaker 3: What I find so disturbing about this movie is essentially
- 58:39Speaker 3: through the whole movie, they are toying with this detective
- 58:45Speaker 3: because for the purpose of sacrificing him.
- 58:48Speaker 5: Mm hmm.
- 58:49Speaker 4: What is that wicker man?
- 58:52Speaker 3: Oh? Okay, oh dude, which one you haven't seen that.
- 58:55Speaker 3: I've got the studio canal set.
- 59:00Speaker 4: Oh you got okay, So it's just the larger s.
- 59:02Speaker 5: That's the one to pop up, right.
- 59:03Speaker 3: Yeah. But the tragedy what happens to the detective. You know,
- 59:11Speaker 3: he's this very religious, very Christian man, and you could
- 59:16Speaker 3: really see the struggle that he has internally with when
- 59:19Speaker 3: I think her name is Willow in the movie where
- 59:21Speaker 3: she does her seductive dancing song to try and seduce him,
- 59:26Speaker 3: and it's interesting because she is doing that to break
- 59:29Speaker 3: him basically, to see if he will give into their
- 59:33Speaker 3: pagan ways, which he doesn't. He stays true to true
- 59:38Speaker 3: to his Christian faith. But in turn that almost anchors
- 59:43Speaker 3: him as a perfect sacrifice for them because they're sacrificing
- 59:47Speaker 3: this pure, perfect sacrifice for their God, for their crops.
- 59:52Speaker 3: You know, the movie's so fascinating. I mean, every time
- 59:57Speaker 3: I watch it, I find something kind of new way
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: a shade about the movie.
- 1:00:02Speaker 5: There's a great book that came out I've been I
- 1:00:06Speaker 5: keep flipping through it every time I go to Barnes
- 1:00:07Speaker 5: and Noble about the making of the Wickerman. It's like
- 1:00:09Speaker 5: a big coffee table book, and every time we go
- 1:00:13Speaker 5: I pick it up and I flip through it and
- 1:00:15Speaker 5: just kind of like read a page or two and
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: it's fascinating.
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: Man, the imagery from that movie, just.
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: Of the burning scene at the end of the movie
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: is it's wild man, absolutely wild.
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: It's a gorgeous four K two.
- 1:00:28Speaker 5: From what I remember, I have like an old blue
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: ray of it. I didn't upgrade at the four K
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: yet because I actually I was at the archive shortly
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: after that Wickerman came out, and I believe they had
- 1:00:39Speaker 5: that set right there for I think it was like
- 1:00:42Speaker 5: one hundred dollars and I almost grabbed it and I
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: was like, do I need this.
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: On that blue ray? Does it have which cut of
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: the film does it have?
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: It's the whatever the extended cut is or whatever, the
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: director's cut. Yeah, the director's cut it. It doesn't even
- 1:00:57Speaker 5: have the theatrical one. It's just the director's cut.
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: So this one has at of theatrical in the final cut,
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: which intermingles like they're they're not very very good, probably
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: elements that they were able to get of it, but
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: they're in the movie. So that's pretty cool. But yeah,
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: I enjoy this movie. It's like the perfect I think
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: when I see this movie, I think of, you know,
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: late spring, early summer. The movie The Celebration kicks off
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: May first in the movie, and it's funny, you know,
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: you hear Christopher Lee talk and his arguments for why
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: they do what they do versus in contrast to what
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: the detective and his belief You're kind of like that
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: makes sense. I mean, I can't really argue for what
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: they're doing because he he he lays down a very
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: good argument. But no, do you what do you think.
- 1:01:55Speaker 5: If if the Wickerman is quintessential folk are, do we
- 1:02:01Speaker 5: think Midsimar is kind of like the modern day equivalent, Yeah.
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: Oh for sure. I mean ari Astro there's definitely tons
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: of inspiration that he took on a work command in
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: that movie.
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, it's just fascinating that folk carr is. So
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: it feels like such a regional thing, like we get
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: a lot of them from you know, Ireland and and
- 1:02:28Speaker 5: and other places, but the US doesn't really get into it.
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: All that much. You know, Yeah, there's there's not a lot.
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, I can't think you. I mean, the
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: Blair Witch is kind of a full car in a way.
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: I mean, what's the what's the other one? The last
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: broadcast deals with the Jersey Devil. Yeah, you know, so
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: I can't think of very many.
- 1:03:00Speaker 5: Yeah, when I was going through the severn All Haunts
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: by Ours box set, it was like, uh, I feel
- 1:03:06Speaker 5: like a world traveler. Just every movie, I'm in a
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: different region of the world, you know. And it's interesting
- 1:03:11Speaker 5: because you have such different interpretations of the same not
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: not the same, you know, tail but there's there's always
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: some sort of crisscrossing.
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: Believe, there's definitely a through line for each one. Yeah,
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: I almost pulled, but I decided to go with this one,
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: The Outcast that Deaf Crocodile released. Have you seen that?
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: Heard of it?
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: So that is a it's pretty decent. I don't put
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: it up there like obviously the Wickerman and stuff like that,
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: But it's about this girl who she's just kind of
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: kicked around. She's not looked at very highly in her
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: family and there in their culture, and she becomes friends
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: with this guy who who's kind of a magician that
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: does her bidding and kind of helps her escape. And
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: it's all right. But I almost picked that one. I
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: don't know if you guys haven't seen that either.
- 1:04:13Speaker 5: No, No, I got burnout when I went through the
- 1:04:18Speaker 5: All Haunts R set. I definitely got a little burnout
- 1:04:20Speaker 5: of faux Car, like I went in deep and.
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: Dude, I still have to finished it. I mean there's
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: so I mean let alone two volumes, Yeah, with a
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: third I think incoming as well.
- 1:04:32Speaker 5: Really probably, yeah.
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: I wouldn't be surprised. I'll probably grab it.
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: Steve is a Steve's looking for faux Car right now.
- 1:04:43Speaker 3: He's a hold up.
- 1:04:45Speaker 5: Yeah, Yeah, I'm definitely definitely great pick man. I love
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: the wicker Man. I wish I got my hands on
- 1:04:51Speaker 5: that Studio Canal, that that big deluxe one.
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: At least.
- 1:04:59Speaker 5: Yeah, Steve is gone. I was gonna pass it on
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: to him. But yeah, I'll talk about the the I
- 1:05:04Speaker 5: guess the last one.
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: Oh wait wait wait he's back.
- 1:05:08Speaker 5: Welcome back, all right? I bet guys we're waiting to
- 1:05:15Speaker 5: see what uh what else you got? What else you
- 1:05:18Speaker 5: got going on for us tonight?
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: Man, Well, I'm heating things up with something, uh something
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: I think I think you guys would appreciate from Aero video,
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: and that's none other.
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: Than John my favorite John wu movie.
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: Uh this one. I mean, I just feel so fortunate that,
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: you know, if we've gotten this SETI on Fire Hard Boiled.
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: I mean I had a chance to pick up the
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: Shout Studios releases for this and Hard Boiled, and I
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: think you can't go wrong with either of them. I
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: just like the presentation a little bit more with these
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: box sets that Arrow is doing, and I also know
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: that Imprint's doing their own thing as well. But for
- 1:06:13Speaker 4: those of you guys who haven't had a chance to
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: check this out, basically revolves around a hitman who takes
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: a job where basically kind of takes a wrong turn
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: and he accidentally blinds a singer by firing a gun
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: too close to her eyes. So basically he decides to
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: retire from his life of crime and help her get
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: a corny a transplant. So kind of goes off from there.
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: It's I mean, if you guys aren't familiar with John
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: Wu's films, they are probably some of the best action
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: films that I could think of off the top of
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: my head. I mean, at least this and Heard Boiled
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: will put up there for sure, But either way, essential viewing.
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: I thought this the box set, the transfer looked excellent.
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: It's loaded with special features in on it. Let's see,
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: So there's the Hero of Heroic Bloodshed. It's a brand
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: new feature length documentary on John Wu's career. You get
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: a Bullet Ballet, which is a brand new interview with
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: director John Wu. My Kind of Hero is a brand
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: new interview with producer Terrence Chang, and then you get
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: Editing the Killer, a brand new interview with editor David Wu.
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: And last, but at least, Hong Kong Confidential. I knew
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: appreciation by author Grady Hendrix just seeing this on the shelf,
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: and I've got heart boiled. Now. There's something so satisfying
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: about these releases. And again, I can't recommend this one enough.
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: This one definitely gets a higher recommendation. The Massacre, I
- 1:08:00Speaker 4: feel like I had as much things to say on
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: that one, But this one, I can't recommend it enough.
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: So if you can pick it up somewhere, whether it's
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: this one or even the Shout Studios Want or in print.
- 1:08:10Speaker 4: I mean, they're all good, but I really like this
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: release a lot.
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: Well, not only the artwork from Tony Stella rip.
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: I know that's sad.
- 1:08:20Speaker 5: Yeah, I need to highly recommend if you pick up
- 1:08:24Speaker 5: any of these Jean Wu titles. Watch the bonus feature
- 1:08:29Speaker 5: with Grady Hendrix. He is videos. I don't know, he's
- 1:08:33Speaker 5: an author. He is phenomenal. He wrote a book for
- 1:08:38Speaker 5: severin called if These Are These Fists Could Break Walls.
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: It's all about the rise of.
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: Kung fu cinema. I think it's called if These Fists
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: Could Break Well, it's something like that. Just incredible, and
- 1:08:53Speaker 5: he's got a great visual kind of companion piece on
- 1:08:59Speaker 5: the release Hard Boiled, which is super educational and fun,
- 1:09:03Speaker 5: and it's edited and shot really well, and he's just
- 1:09:06Speaker 5: a blast to listen to. So if you have any
- 1:09:10Speaker 5: of these, definitely check out the Grady Hendrix. It seems
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: to be kind of a running thing that he has
- 1:09:15Speaker 5: being involved with these John Woo releases. He's phenomenal.
- 1:09:20Speaker 4: It has me really excited for whatever Arrow has coming
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: down the pipeline. I already pre ordered Bolt in the Head,
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: so I'm very excited for that one. And I'm sure
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: it's just a matter of time before they start, you know,
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: doing their own take on some of the other films
- 1:09:38Speaker 4: at Shout Studios. It's tackling.
- 1:09:40Speaker 5: Yeah, The Killer is my favorite John. I know a
- 1:09:46Speaker 5: lot of people think it's crazy to put that over
- 1:09:47Speaker 5: Hard Boiled, but The Killer is phenomenal. First of all,
- 1:09:52Speaker 5: chili un fat with a mustache, a fake mustache is great.
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: This is like just so John. I love the production
- 1:10:01Speaker 5: design of the church and that comes in and out.
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: I love.
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: Especially the shootouts.
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: In this film.
- 1:10:10Speaker 5: Like it's just this movie is the ultimate John Wu experience.
- 1:10:13Speaker 5: I mean, Chilean fat walking out of the church with
- 1:10:15Speaker 5: doves flying all around him is like the seminal image
- 1:10:19Speaker 5: for Wu fans. So I love that movie. And I
- 1:10:25Speaker 5: actually didn't see that until these restorations started going around
- 1:10:29Speaker 5: and I watched it on the Criterion Channel and I
- 1:10:33Speaker 5: just loved it.
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: Yeah, they've they've definitely been knocking it out of the
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: park with these transfers. And yeah, man, very very happy
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: with this release. Yeah, to put it mildly.
- 1:10:49Speaker 5: Yeah, I got one last one and I'm not gonna
- 1:10:53Speaker 5: go on too long about it. I just watched the
- 1:10:56Speaker 5: I don't know what year technically this came out because
- 1:10:59Speaker 5: it had such a messy release timeline. But I just
- 1:11:02Speaker 5: watched the new Toxic Avenger. M have you guys seen
- 1:11:08Speaker 5: this yet? I am I. I hold the original Toxic
- 1:11:14Speaker 5: Avenger very close to my heart.
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: I love that movie.
- 1:11:17Speaker 5: Love Trauma was very nervous. I remember hearing about the
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: kind of the word coming out of the festivals, and
- 1:11:25Speaker 5: then it got shelved and nobody touched it, and then
- 1:11:27Speaker 5: finally it's gonna come back out. This is This is
- 1:11:30Speaker 5: directed by Macan Blair, who if you've seen Blue Ruin
- 1:11:35Speaker 5: he's in. If you've seen Green Room, he's in that
- 1:11:38Speaker 5: as well. I believe he's also in. Is he in
- 1:11:42Speaker 5: kill List? I can't remember if he is or if
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: he isn't if he was involved in kill lists somehow.
- 1:11:49Speaker 5: Time to hit the old Google. But I picked this
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: up back when it came out on physical media, which
- 1:11:56Speaker 5: was what like a little bit, so kill List is
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: kind of like inspiration for him doing Blue Ruin, which
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: he wrote and.
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: And and start in.
- 1:12:11Speaker 5: It's been out for a while now, yeah, the Toxic
- 1:12:13Speaker 5: Avenger and just never watched it and threw it on
- 1:12:17Speaker 5: last night and actually had a lot of fun with it.
- 1:12:20Speaker 5: It's it's very funny, it's very outrageous, and it definitely
- 1:12:27Speaker 5: gets dumbed down by some pretty egregious like CGI again
- 1:12:34Speaker 5: like CGI Blood, which just bothers the hell out of me.
- 1:12:38Speaker 5: But it is very very much in the like it
- 1:12:44Speaker 5: is exactly what you expect of a modern day trauma
- 1:12:48Speaker 5: film would be like if somebody spent their whole entire
- 1:12:50Speaker 5: life watching trauma, and it was like, I can do that.
- 1:12:53Speaker 5: Peter Dinglish is great. I thought the action and the
- 1:12:57Speaker 5: violence was was you know enough, Like I was satisfied enough.
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: But for me, it was just a humor. The movie
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: is yeah, yeah, there is, but most of it CGI.
- 1:13:10Speaker 5: It's a lot of CGI blood and you know, the
- 1:13:14Speaker 5: humor is really kind of what I was enjoying. Elijah
- 1:13:17Speaker 5: Wood is fucking nuts and it Kevin Bacon is out
- 1:13:19Speaker 5: of control. I mean at the very beginning of the movie,
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: Kevin he plays like the owner of this health supplement company,
- 1:13:26Speaker 5: which is so funny considering I've worked in supplements my
- 1:13:29Speaker 5: entire life. And he's very much like the Brian Johnson
- 1:13:36Speaker 5: of this world. I don't know if you guys know
- 1:13:37Speaker 5: who that is. It's a guy who was rumored that
- 1:13:39Speaker 5: he was doing blood translusions with his son in an
- 1:13:41Speaker 5: effort to stay younger a couple of years ago. There's
- 1:13:46Speaker 5: a there's a moment the beginning of the movie when
- 1:13:47Speaker 5: we're being introduced to Kevin Bacon and he's getting a
- 1:13:50Speaker 5: transfusion of gorilla blood put into him. It's it's really
- 1:13:57Speaker 5: outrageous and it's very funny, and I think more than anything,
- 1:14:01Speaker 5: I just had a really good time with it.
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: It's certainly missing.
- 1:14:06Speaker 5: The charm and the straight up guts of the original
- 1:14:10Speaker 5: Toxic Avenger.
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: I don't mean literal guts.
- 1:14:12Speaker 5: I mean just the balls to go as far as
- 1:14:15Speaker 5: they did in that movie. You know, it all feels
- 1:14:17Speaker 5: kind of dampen down in this one. But yeah, it's
- 1:14:21Speaker 5: still a lot of fun with it.
- 1:14:24Speaker 4: That's awesome. I haven't had a chance to see it,
- 1:14:26Speaker 4: but I might have to check it out.
- 1:14:27Speaker 5: There's also a great there's also a great I don't
- 1:14:31Speaker 5: know if it's called a visual essay, like a visual
- 1:14:33Speaker 5: companion done by our producers Ryan and Will on it
- 1:14:37Speaker 5: as well, which is absolutely fantastic. So if you own this,
- 1:14:41Speaker 5: please take the time to check that out. I think
- 1:14:42Speaker 5: it's like eleven minutes long. Take no time at all
- 1:14:45Speaker 5: for you to get through it before before we go
- 1:14:50Speaker 5: to bed, because I'm very tired. Jordan looks like he's
- 1:14:53Speaker 5: falling asleep actively. No, not even right now, But anything
- 1:14:58Speaker 5: else you guys want to touch.
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: On before we Yeah, I've got two I can run
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: through real quick. Well let's let's do three. I'll do
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: three real quick. But anyways, it'll be quick.
- 1:15:11Speaker 5: It's okay, it's okay.
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: No, the Imprint release of the Halloween box, and now
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: I know this one. I feel like this one just
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: has a bad reputation and it's just never gonna go away.
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: I got a completely damaged box and there's been a
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: whole thing about it with it being the Pumpkin. Anyways,
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: I watched the first Halloween and now these are Scream
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: Factory transfers, every single one. They got them from Scream Factory. However,
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: I found out the endcoding is different. Scream Factory did
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: their own encoding. Uh, Imprint went to Fidelity Emotion and
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: to do all their encoding. That being said, if we're
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: getting nitpicky, and I mean at the slightest and you can,
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: there's just something about the Imprint one that has a
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: little boost to it that makes it look a little better.
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: Other than that, it's not worth it. I mean, I
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: don't think it's it's just it does have that slight edge.
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: Plus you're getting the twenty five years of tear with
- 1:16:16Speaker 3: this release, which is I mean, they guess it's pretty cool. Yeah,
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: because that's not on the screen factory releases at all.
- 1:16:21Speaker 5: Is that the first time that's been on Blu Ray?
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: Yes, I believe so. Yeah, you're also getting a audio
- 1:16:32Speaker 3: commentary in here that you were not getting on the
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: screen factory release, and it is a I don't remember
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: who was in it. Let me see here. I can
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: tell you. I have to google it. I forgot.
- 1:16:51Speaker 5: This is your first time watching Halloween, right.
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: Yeah, dude, I don't. I know nothing about it. So this,
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: uh Mike Michael Myers, I mean, would they get him
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: from Mike Myers? Is this a ripoff of the actor?
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: Like?
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: Come on, I was expecting to see, you.
- 1:17:08Speaker 5: Know, Mike Myers, star of the Cat and Hat. Yeah, dude,
- 1:17:12Speaker 5: I mean, and so I married an axe Marty. I
- 1:17:16Speaker 5: think he had to get a brief appearance in Austin Powers.
- 1:17:19Speaker 5: I think as well.
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: Yeah, dude, I thought that was pretty cool that he
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: showed up.
- 1:17:26Speaker 5: It's like the I always think of the moment in
- 1:17:28Speaker 5: uh in Baby Driver with Flee when they go to
- 1:17:32Speaker 5: the robbery and they pull out Mike Myers, like from
- 1:17:35Speaker 5: Austin Powers, Mike Myers Mass and Jamie Fox is like
- 1:17:38Speaker 5: I told you to get Michael Myers, and he's like,
- 1:17:40Speaker 5: this is Mike Myers. He's very good.
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: Okay, I don't know, he'll tip over for it. I
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: can't find it. But anyways, there is an audio commentary. Actually,
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: throughout all the movies, there's audio commentaries on each of
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: these that are not on screen factories. They're all archival stuff.
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: So there's that, all right, Jordan, I gotta ask you,
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: because we all know the inevitable error release is coming soon.
- 1:18:09Speaker 4: Are you gonna buy that one as well?
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: Of course it's I'm one of those. If it's Halloween,
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: I'm gonna buy it.
- 1:18:15Speaker 5: Sounds fair.
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: The next one, I know, see you kind of mentioned it, mutant.
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: I loved this movie so much. I thought it was
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: such a fun movie. What what you got so stoked?
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: Your internet can actually no, but this movie is such fun,
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: such a fun movie. Out Wingshauser and uh he him
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: and his brother are getting away from their busy city
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: life and they go into this town and after a
- 1:18:50Speaker 3: road raying incident, they end up in a ditch and
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: they have to say the night and after when they
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: wake up the next morning, wing Hauser's brother is missing
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: and gone, and now he's.
- 1:19:03Speaker 5: Second for a second, I thought this was a plot
- 1:19:05Speaker 5: of Texas Chansoascer three, the next generation.
- 1:19:08Speaker 3: It's close, it's close, not quite so his mother's gone,
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: so now he's got to team up with folks in
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: the town to try and find his his missing brother.
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: And there's this, uh these this infection of sorts that
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: is making its way, that's training people into like zombie
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: type creatures, mutants, and dude, I had a lot of
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: fun with this one.
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: By the way, correction, I meant to say leather Face
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: Texas Chansloasker four with Ken Fray. That's the one I
- 1:19:41Speaker 5: was referencing. Oh, I haven't seen the hot TCM three, Steve.
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: Do you see the connection between road rage getting driven
- 1:19:50Speaker 5: off the road? Ken Frey?
- 1:19:52Speaker 4: Wait? Was that wasn't leather Face? Is that TCM three?
- 1:19:56Speaker 3: That's uh oh it is three. It's a three, Yes,
- 1:19:59Speaker 3: it is.
- 1:19:59Speaker 4: Okay. I was right.
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: I was wrong and right at the same time.
- 1:20:04Speaker 4: I felt like I was about to have an inception moment, like.
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: His topper is spinning. It is not stopping time.
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: At the time of recording this, it's eleven PM.
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: Okay, well this is the last one Hunter's Blood. I
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: picked this up.
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: Any to get this, dude.
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: Let me tell you something. I enjoyed this one a lot.
- 1:20:27Speaker 3: It's a it's a survival, survival horror film. It's actually
- 1:20:32Speaker 3: the cast is pretty crazy. I didn't realize. So you've
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: got John Travold's brother is one of the actors in
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: this movie. You've got the oh, what's his name, Crispin
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: Glover's father, he's one of the characters in this is
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: named one Eye, and uh. You also have Billy Bob
- 1:20:52Speaker 3: Thornton in a quick little cameo says one line, and
- 1:20:57Speaker 3: it is because of this movie that he got his card.
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: So it's because of this way that. Yeah, just quick little,
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: quick little cameo. But there's a great making of brand
- 1:21:09Speaker 3: new documentary in here, which I highly recommend if anyone
- 1:21:12Speaker 3: picks u up watch because it is it's just so neat.
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: Because the whole movie is shot. I want to say
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: it was like in Africa, in La like Burdbank area
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: or so. I can't remember exactly what you said, but
- 1:21:28Speaker 3: it's like they go over this highway, there's a little
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: forest and that's where everything was shot. So there was
- 1:21:33Speaker 3: like buildings and freeways and stuff behind them, but they
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: were was shot in this little force and they made
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: it look like made it look like that. It was
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: a lot of fun. Guys. If you guys haven't seen
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: Hunters Blood or even.
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: Picked this up, I gotta pick up that way.
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: I think it's great.
- 1:21:48Speaker 5: Yeah, available. I just want to make sure people know Synaps.
- 1:21:52Speaker 4: Yeah, yep, that's.
- 1:21:53Speaker 3: Where I got mine. Synapps and then Orbit DVD and
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: Diabolic also Hark.
- 1:21:59Speaker 5: Which, by the way, y'all the confirmation that Synaps is
- 1:22:02Speaker 5: doing Near Dark.
- 1:22:04Speaker 4: Dude, that's exciting.
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: Fuck dude, Fuck, I'm so excited for like, between Red
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: Shirt and set out stuff, they're doing Fright.
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: Night two, a lot of exciting stuff coming on.
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: Yeah. I said to my wife, I don't know.
- 1:22:18Speaker 5: I think I mentioned this in a previous episode, but
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: I said to my wife a couple I don't know
- 1:22:23Speaker 5: if we talked about it during the Evil That Rise
- 1:22:25Speaker 5: episode or not, Steve, but I was. I said to
- 1:22:28Speaker 5: my wife, I was excited. I was like, oh, they
- 1:22:30Speaker 5: added the original art as an outer box option for
- 1:22:32Speaker 5: Fright Night Part two, And my wife was like, do
- 1:22:35Speaker 5: you need Fright Night Part two on four K in
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: a big box set? And I was like no, so
- 1:22:40Speaker 5: I'm not gonna get it. Any more. I was going to,
- 1:22:42Speaker 5: but she talked to me out of it.
- 1:22:46Speaker 3: Of course, you don't know, Chris, But but.
- 1:22:51Speaker 4: But Chris, are you can get Hunter's blood or what?
- 1:22:54Speaker 5: I don't even know what the hell hunter's blood is.
- 1:22:57Speaker 3: Check it out.
- 1:22:59Speaker 5: I just watched the Livers.
- 1:23:01Speaker 3: This has some great practical effects to in it as well.
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: There's a nice little scene of a head explosion, which
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: is unfortunate. They don't show the head getting exploded, but
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: they show the aftermath and it is shot so well.
- 1:23:16Speaker 3: What they did is they talked about they buried the
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: dude's head, so he laid on his back, arched his
- 1:23:20Speaker 3: neck back, and buried his head and put like chicken
- 1:23:24Speaker 3: guts and stuff all around. And then there's another scene
- 1:23:27Speaker 3: where they they hang this man tied to a tree
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: and skin him alive, and you see the aftermath of
- 1:23:33Speaker 3: all that. Some not a lot of crazy gore effects,
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: but the ones that they have are they shine for sure.
- 1:23:40Speaker 5: Listen, Man Cronenberg called said he wants the head explosion back.
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: Dude, it doesn't touch that.
- 1:23:45Speaker 5: Donald Glover called said he wants to skin the man
- 1:23:47Speaker 5: hanging upside down back compredator too.
- 1:23:51Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I think about that for a second.
- 1:23:54Speaker 5: It's been a while, Steve. What else you got the
- 1:23:58Speaker 5: chat about?
- 1:23:58Speaker 4: Man? All right? I got a couple of heavy hitters,
- 1:24:02Speaker 4: And I know that these aren't recent releases, but I
- 1:24:07Speaker 4: was weirdly enough in the mood to go back and
- 1:24:11Speaker 4: watch this thick Boy release of Possession.
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: You were in a second mood, bro, you were in
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: a mood.
- 1:24:20Speaker 4: I was surprised that it was like right place, right
- 1:24:24Speaker 4: time when I was feeling like watching something like this.
- 1:24:28Speaker 4: Oh man, I okay. I think it's easy to gloss
- 1:24:33Speaker 4: over some of these past releases that we've gotten before,
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: and especially this one. I'm sure you guys remember just
- 1:24:40Speaker 4: how anticipated it was at the time. We've been hearing
- 1:24:44Speaker 4: about it for the longest time, and it's like I
- 1:24:47Speaker 4: just had to stop and truly appreciate just how stunning
- 1:24:50Speaker 4: of a four K this is, the box set, the presentation,
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: the booklet that's included in with it. Because we're always
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: onto the next thing, and this one is I think
- 1:25:04Speaker 4: of this as like one of like the top tier
- 1:25:07Speaker 4: releases that we've gotten from Second Site. It deserves all
- 1:25:11Speaker 4: the love in the world, and I'm so happy to
- 1:25:15Speaker 4: go back and just truly have a deeper appreciation for
- 1:25:17Speaker 4: this release. I mean, you guys have both seen the film,
- 1:25:22Speaker 4: what are your thoughts on it? It's definitely I feel
- 1:25:24Speaker 4: like pretty out there.
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: I love it.
- 1:25:27Speaker 5: No, Yeah, the movie's batshit crazy, dude, Like absolute, absolute
- 1:25:33Speaker 5: batshit And you know, it's something that that you and
- 1:25:37Speaker 5: I Steve been talking about covering on this show with
- 1:25:40Speaker 5: the commentary track and stuff, and I just haven't been
- 1:25:43Speaker 5: up for the challenge yet because I feel like this
- 1:25:45Speaker 5: is a movie that requires so much.
- 1:25:50Speaker 3: Well it's that, but there's so many avenues you can
- 1:25:53Speaker 3: go with unpacking this movie. It has so much to say.
- 1:25:57Speaker 3: Every time you watch it, you're getting something you know,
- 1:26:01Speaker 3: You're you're getting something different, you know. I love the
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: idea of the characters are becoming kind of they find
- 1:26:11Speaker 3: alternates of what they want to see in each other,
- 1:26:13Speaker 3: and the whole you know, effect it has on the kid.
- 1:26:18Speaker 3: The whole movie opens up with the Berlin Wall that
- 1:26:21Speaker 3: reflects the isolation. I love this movie. It's just it's
- 1:26:25Speaker 3: it's it's a very dense, heavy, heavy movie.
- 1:26:31Speaker 4: Yeah, there's I agree with what you guys are saying.
- 1:26:34Speaker 4: I feel like there is a lot to unpack with
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: this because you're dealing with such heavy topics, you know,
- 1:26:40Speaker 4: the distrust in a marriage, you know, kind of the
- 1:26:45Speaker 4: you know, you've got a child that's kind of caught
- 1:26:47Speaker 4: between the two of them, and you know, kind of
- 1:26:50Speaker 4: going back to what Jordan was saying earlier that you're
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: you're seeing these versions of each other that they want
- 1:26:59Speaker 4: to see and it's it's truly It's a film that
- 1:27:04Speaker 4: I feel like does require multiple viewings in order to
- 1:27:06Speaker 4: like really have a deeper appreciation for it. But this
- 1:27:12Speaker 4: is just one that I feel like I had to
- 1:27:14Speaker 4: bring up just because again, we're always onto that next
- 1:27:18Speaker 4: anticipated release, and it just felt like this four K
- 1:27:22Speaker 4: set came and went so quickly. So and then the
- 1:27:26Speaker 4: other one that I wanted to talk about. I know
- 1:27:29Speaker 4: you guys have seen this, but especially after after coming
- 1:27:33Speaker 4: off of the announcement that Curry Barker is going to
- 1:27:36Speaker 4: be doing Texas Chainsaw, I figured it was a good
- 1:27:39Speaker 4: time to revisit Texas Chainsaw Massacre from two thousand and three.
- 1:27:46Speaker 4: You guys have seen it before.
- 1:27:47Speaker 5: It's a great one, shot incredibly by the OG cinematographer
- 1:27:52Speaker 5: Daniel Pearl.
- 1:27:53Speaker 4: Oh yeah, and it's doesn't deviate too far from the
- 1:27:59Speaker 4: origin premise from the og Texas Chainsaw. But you have
- 1:28:04Speaker 4: a group of teenagers that make their way into the
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: Deep South in Texas and they stumble upon a home
- 1:28:12Speaker 4: where things go horribly wrong. And this is a movie
- 1:28:18Speaker 4: that I have an affinity for especially. This was like,
- 1:28:21Speaker 4: really when I was developing my love of horror films
- 1:28:25Speaker 4: at the time and really trying to see how far
- 1:28:28Speaker 4: you could take it. And I will always credit this
- 1:28:31Speaker 4: as one of the movies that really allowed me to
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: challenge myself to see what else was out there. I
- 1:28:39Speaker 4: recalled this at the time being very, very graphic compared
- 1:28:42Speaker 4: to what I you know, the other films I had seen.
- 1:28:45Speaker 4: But you know this this specific decade, I mean, we
- 1:28:49Speaker 4: were getting a number of these different remakes and reimaginings
- 1:28:54Speaker 4: for some of these iconic horror films, and this is
- 1:28:56Speaker 4: definitely a standout in my eyes. What do you guys think?
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: I love it? Ar Lee Ermie obviously famous for being
- 1:29:05Speaker 3: in full metal jacket, but him his performance in this
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: movie is just so well done. I can't remember is
- 1:29:15Speaker 3: it this one or the beginning where he's in the
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: patrol car with the cop.
- 1:29:21Speaker 5: Oh and he hits him in the face with a
- 1:29:23Speaker 5: glass bottle. Yeah, that's this one.
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: This I'm sure Chris touch on this. Yeah. The Daniel
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: Pearl kind of trying to one up himself with the
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: shot with the hitchhiker in this movie. So many iconic scenes.
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: One of the most chilling scenes is when you see
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: Kimper's face on leather face.
- 1:29:49Speaker 4: Yeah, brutal.
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: I think this is a great one. It's funny. I
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: just watched the seventy four text Chang saw Masacret.
- 1:29:57Speaker 5: Today, So good choice, best thing you could have done.
- 1:30:01Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, thank you.
- 1:30:04Speaker 5: You know, Texas Chase three is pretty seminal to a
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: lot of the direction that my taste went into at
- 1:30:15Speaker 5: thirteen years old when Everbe came out. I think the
- 1:30:18Speaker 5: four K is fantastic. I think that this is one
- 1:30:25Speaker 5: of the best horror remakes of at least top five
- 1:30:29Speaker 5: for me. Daniel Pearl shoots the hell out of this movie.
- 1:30:34Speaker 5: It's definitely that they did build upon the original film.
- 1:30:43Speaker 5: I thought was nice. They brought into additional characters, kind
- 1:30:46Speaker 5: of extended the family a little bit. I thought it
- 1:30:49Speaker 5: was a very good way to try to modernize it
- 1:30:53Speaker 5: a bit, even though they still stuck to the seventies setting.
- 1:30:57Speaker 5: There is a subplot in the deleted scenes is kind
- 1:31:01Speaker 5: of through plot of Jessica Biel's character being pregnant, which
- 1:31:06Speaker 5: I feel like they removed because it might have been
- 1:31:08Speaker 5: a little sadistic that all this was happening to her
- 1:31:11Speaker 5: while she was pregnant, or they felt like they didn't
- 1:31:14Speaker 5: you know, it wasn't fully fleshed out or whatever. I
- 1:31:17Speaker 5: always thought that that was a that was kind of
- 1:31:19Speaker 5: something that I feel like they could have brought in
- 1:31:22Speaker 5: and they had had to handle it a little bit
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: differently than they do and had extra footage. But yeah,
- 1:31:27Speaker 5: I love this movie, man. I mean nothing tops that
- 1:31:29Speaker 5: shot of the camera going from the interior of the
- 1:31:32Speaker 5: van through the bullet hole, you know, out the back
- 1:31:36Speaker 5: of the van. It's pretty remarkable.
- 1:31:40Speaker 4: It's age really well. Yeah, just that the film as
- 1:31:43Speaker 4: a whole, but especially you know, Daniel Pearl isn't really
- 1:31:48Speaker 4: trying he's not trying to recapture that same aesthetic that
- 1:31:52Speaker 4: he did in the original. He does something I feel like,
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: completely different that allows this film to stand out on
- 1:31:59Speaker 4: its own. And going back to what Chris was saying,
- 1:32:02Speaker 4: is like, it's I think it's pretty cool because within
- 1:32:06Speaker 4: the setting, you know, we obviously had the iconic house,
- 1:32:11Speaker 4: but I think adding this very vast feeling of like
- 1:32:16Speaker 4: the Slaughterhouse on top of it, I mean it just
- 1:32:19Speaker 4: kind of adds to the scale of just how trapped
- 1:32:24Speaker 4: and just secluded they are like in that specific area.
- 1:32:27Speaker 4: So yeah, this is I would have to second the
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: fact that this is probably one of the top tier
- 1:32:35Speaker 4: remakes that we got in this decade.
- 1:32:36Speaker 3: Well, even the house itself, I mean, they looks like
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: a compound, the new house. But I kind of wish
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: they would have left the whole pregnancy part in the
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: movie because I think that gives more what should I say,
- 1:32:54Speaker 3: I guess explanation, but more reason to why Jessica Bill's
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: character is so adamant about the kid, that baby and
- 1:33:00Speaker 3: stuff like that. It kind of get okay, it's a
- 1:33:02Speaker 3: revelation on that makes sense, right.
- 1:33:06Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a good one.
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: Man.
- 1:33:08Speaker 5: That's great. I'm so happy that Arrow was the one
- 1:33:10Speaker 5: to bring that bring that out. There's also a great
- 1:33:13Speaker 5: documentary that they carried over from the DVD. That's that's
- 1:33:16Speaker 5: fantastic as well.
- 1:33:18Speaker 4: I gotta go back and watch it. But do you
- 1:33:20Speaker 4: guys think that we'll get leather Face TCM three or
- 1:33:26Speaker 4: the Next Generation from Arrow at some point.
- 1:33:30Speaker 5: Those are Warner titles. Because I have a Warner archive
- 1:33:36Speaker 5: of TCM three, I believe Next Generation is also Warner.
- 1:33:40Speaker 5: I think that's probably gonna be more vinegar Syndrome.
- 1:33:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I think likely before that happens, we would get
- 1:33:47Speaker 3: like Freddy versus Jason from Arrow or Yeah Arrow Warner Brothers.
- 1:33:51Speaker 4: Yea, I need any of them. I want them all.
- 1:33:55Speaker 5: What else hasn't you think they're gonna do? Uh? You
- 1:33:57Speaker 5: think we're gonna get a deluxe edition of Texas Chains
- 1:33:59Speaker 5: Off three D.
- 1:34:02Speaker 4: I feel like this is the first time this movie's
- 1:34:04Speaker 4: come up on the podcast.
- 1:34:08Speaker 5: We did do a TCM rating, mind you, we did.
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: Do yeah, but it doesn't make it okay?
- 1:34:15Speaker 5: Well do you think cuz? Oh my god, any any
- 1:34:19Speaker 5: last uh, any last editions before I go to my
- 1:34:23Speaker 5: deep slumber.
- 1:34:26Speaker 4: Really, the only thing I wanted to quickly mention was
- 1:34:29Speaker 4: some of the movies I haven't had a chance to
- 1:34:33Speaker 4: dive into yet. You got the Four Case Steele book,
- 1:34:38Speaker 4: David Fincher's Fight Club.
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: I just watched that last week.
- 1:34:44Speaker 5: Don't Forget the Rules, man.
- 1:34:47Speaker 4: Can't talk about it. I also picked up the Radiance
- 1:34:55Speaker 4: release for Cutter's Way.
- 1:34:56Speaker 5: Hell yeah, that's That's what I'm talking about right there.
- 1:35:00Speaker 4: So I got I'm trying to give us all a
- 1:35:01Speaker 4: little variety and then to end on a I don't
- 1:35:05Speaker 4: know if it's a high note necessarily, but I've got
- 1:35:08Speaker 4: Vinegar Syndrome's Escape from Death.
- 1:35:11Speaker 3: That's a fun one.
- 1:35:12Speaker 4: I enjoyed that one better than Massacre. I like to
- 1:35:16Speaker 4: better the Massacre more to talk about this.
- 1:35:18Speaker 3: It's definitely more of a Giallow film than say, Massacre,
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: Man Jordan.
- 1:35:24Speaker 5: Any last minute.
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: Editions, well these just showed up today. Terror Train.
