Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_02]: Hello, friend.
- 0:01[SPEAKER_02]: I've got a question for you.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_02]: Have you ever felt lonely?
- 0:05[SPEAKER_02]: Well, Dr. Paul Levine, the founder of this ministry Bible Tracks Incorporated in the Bible Tracks Echo's Radio Broadcast, he says that he has.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_02]: He's actually going to give us a personal illustration of that in just a moment while he continues a message titled The Demand of Discipleship.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_02]: Will you listen now as Dr. Paul Levine
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: If you do the world of God and you follow the Lord like He wants you to follow Him, you may not something about loneliness and suffer the suffering of loneliness in the home sickness.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'll never forget when I went away to school.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: I was 15 years old and my brother and my two brothers or brothers took me to the school about a couple hundred miles from where I live.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I found the room, and there I was, and so a couple of minutes later, I went downstairs to talk to my brothers and then they had left, they taken off.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: I guess they figured out the best way to do it, and I was absolutely, completely just, oh, that's wild, well, home safe.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: It is awful.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: And somebody said, well, why didn't you go home, if you felt the terribly of that home safe?
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: Because you decide before you ever go, that no matter what happens, you're going to stay there.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's why.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: And so, I know what it's like, and you may have to know what it's like.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: Look, because God wants you to go to a Christian college next fall.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: Don't rebel against that young folks.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: Give me in the garden all of this.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: And even though if they start to have to strive for a little home sick, there's still not that body yet.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: Would you fall a little Lord?
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: Would you say Lord, I'll fall to you.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: If you knew it meant, go away, go away and leave home, and go away to Christian college next fall.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: Here's something, the Lord Jesus suffered the loss of a lot of friends.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: But while a lot of people fall at him, then he began to tell him exactly what was going to mean.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: And after a while, the Bible says they turn and walk no more with him.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: You live when you lose some friends, if you do the will of God, you know, I had a bunch that I ran around with before I dedicated my life to God and I wonder, but what's going to happen now?
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: I dedicate my life to God.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: What's going to happen about the books I've been chasing around him with?
- 2:11[SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
- 2:11[SPEAKER_00]: I did the worry about them.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: They dropped me like a hot phone.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't have the bother about them at all.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: But I lost some friends.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: And you may lose some friends.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: I heard about a young man who was engaged to Mary, a girl.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: And so he broke and canceled the engagement.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't easy, but he did it.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: He said, he said, he's a professing Christian, but he doesn't know the Lord.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: and he canceled the engagement and lost.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: This wonderful, what he saw at first was going to be a wonderful friend and a wonderful wife for him.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_00]: But he found out he wasn't really saved and he was man enough and he was disciple enough to cancel the engagement and in her name so much did you know that in two weeks he lost 21 pounds.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: That'd be a quick way to reduce, but it wouldn't be an easy way to reduce.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: But he was sick over it and he lost.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: The bride he was going to marry in obedience to the will of God because he was a disciple.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: You see, I remember one time I was preaching in a certain place, and usually in my meetings we used to have a young people's night, and we were going to have young people's night on Saturday night during this week, but this Monday night.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I was very burdened about a certain message to the teenagers.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: So I went ahead and preached it on Monday night, gave an invitation, along with those who made decisions with the young lady, and she came forward, and they took her back out of prayer room, and she came back, and I found out what it was.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: She was engaged to Mary and soldier.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: And he was the way it came.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: She got the laundry.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: Did I marry this?
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even know for sure if he's saved or not.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: They said, I married him and she got bothered about it.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: And that day she prayed and she said, Dear Lord, give me your answer tonight in the sermon.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: Now I didn't know that she had prayed that that morning.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: And she had no idea what I was going to preach about, and sometimes I don't need her till almost the last minute.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: But here, no, I preached on the very things she needed to hear.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: Down the aisle, she came back and her prayer on the head, prayer together, she came back, said to me, she said, brother, she told me what I just told you.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: And she said, brother, Paul, I'm going to break the engagement.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to lose this boy.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_00]: She's going to lose him.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: Some girl doing this thing in the world, a high-owned door, boyfriend.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they never think about breaking it in engagement.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: But this girl said, I'm not sure he saved, and I'm not sure I should marry him.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: So I said, what are you going to do about it now?
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: She said, I'm going to call him.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not even going to wait.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: Right, man, I'm going to go right home tonight.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: I call him up at Kip and tell him that marriage is off.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: And she did.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: Well,
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: I said, what are you going to do now?
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: Well, she said, I'm even going to go with Bible College.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, young folks, that's all why he's saying to do that.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: See, when you get to a high school, go to Bible College somewhere.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: Do you win a way to Bible College?
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: And a few months later, I was there speaking in chapel.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: And she came up and spoke to me and she was real happy.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: And then about three, four years later, I was back speaking at the same chapel.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: And there she was again.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: And when she walked up to meet me, she had a young man with her.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: And she smiled, and she said, I want you to meet my fiance, whatever that means.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: And I think what that means is that she's going to marry this guy.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: So I said to her, kind of, I quietly said, that's how the fellow didn't hear it.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: I said, you're going to marry this fellow.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: And she said, yes, I said to her, why don't you just sorry you gave up that soldier?
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: Wouldn't you rather have him?
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: Let's thought she's going to bounce.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: No, he'll walk that soldier now.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: She found a bear man.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: The one she had no bait got back at.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: What did she go on ahead and marry that unsafe soldier?
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: You know what it done?
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: You're in front of it.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: We're just completely biases and wreck her whole life.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: But he broke in engagement, lost the friend.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: Where the way did I buyable school?
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's a good neighborhood in the Lord and the Lord gave her a better man.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what you're going to have to suffer.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_00]: If you do the will of God.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: You may have to suffer.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: The loss of friends and the loss of money and the loss of a good salary and the loss of a good job, but you go ahead and lose it because it'll pay.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: Now, in some sense, he suffered.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: Listen to this.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: He suffered rejection by the very ones this year to receive you.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: I look back at that verse again.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: It says here, he's going to be rejected of the elders.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: Now, they should have known that he was the Christ.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: And the scribes and the chief priests, they should have known who he was, and they should have received him.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: But the very ones who should have received him were the very ones who were rejected him.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: Now, that's a little hard to face on time.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: You know, some of the very ones young people ought to help you and pat you on the back and say, God bless you.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: Work, glad you're taking it stand.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: Work, glad you're going to buy it with school.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_00]: Work, glad you're going to smash your rock records.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: Work, glad you're going to throw away your dirty literature.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: We're glad you're going to switch smoke and cigarettes and we're glad you're going to quit messing with the drugs and we're glad you're going to go to Bible College and we're glad you're going to do the will of God.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: Not everybody will do that.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: And sometimes the very ones that aren't in courage you will be the very ones to reject you.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: And that will be hard.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: Sometime it might be your own mother or your own dad.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: Did you know the Bible says in John chapter 7 and verse 5 that the Lord's own brother, she had four half brothers.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: They all had the same mother, but of course the Lord had no human father, but he had these four half-brothers, at least four the hyaluronic love, and the Bible says neither did they believe it.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: His own brothers, both that must have been heartbreaking.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: They wouldn't believe, later on, they did, after the crucifixion and resurrection, they got saved.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: And one of them, by the name of Jude, wrote the book of Jude, another one of the James, wrote the book of James.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: But for a while, they even rejected him.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: In Psalm 69, verse 8, the Bible is a prophecy about Christ.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: And he says, I was a stranger to my brothers and an alien to my mother's children.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: What does that mean?
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: That means that right in the family, they rejected him.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: Now, maybe someone who will have to go through this.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: I've talked a lot of young folks who've had to start for this.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: This is the hard one to take.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: But you may have to do it.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I remember one time preaching in a place
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: It was Thanksgiving season, and a lot of college kids were home for the Thanksgiving.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: So when I got to a preaching on Sunday morning, they were going to most, I'm going to lead Sunday afternoon get back to their colleges, but a lot of college kids here in high school kids.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: So at this course of Sunday morning service, a lot of them came forward to dedicate their lives to God, and they were standing clear across, clear across the front of the building.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: And so, I said, well, I thought, boy, in this one of them, good, look at all these young folks here.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: Then they have dedicated their lives.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: So I say, hey, man, that's how you're hot.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: When we sing the next stands, I want all you mothers and dads, walk down here, if you're a son or daughter's here, or you don't walk down and stand with your son, and stand with your daughter.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: And that'll be your way of telling them that you are interested in what they're doing, you're going to back them in their dedication.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: These young folks dedicate their lives to be preachers and missionaries and evangelists and Christian workers and maybe they go away to Bible College, maybe they leave home, maybe Sunday, land on a mission field.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: But modern day, come home, say it, well, I didn't encourage your sons and daughters.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: We're saying a whole standard, not one single parent came, not even one.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I said, well, I guess you misunderstood me.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: What I want is I want you mothers and dads come down here and encourage your children.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: Come on, now I want to sing the next sentence.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: Hang in other sentences?
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: No, but it came.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: We sang four sentences, not one mother, not one dad, in our whole church, a fundamental Baptist, independent Baptist church, not one single parent, walked down there and stood with one of their children.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how they felt.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how I would have felt.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: I would have felt rejected by my perks that five been one of them.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: Well, when the meeting was all around to go to good honor and shake hands with them, but by the time I got down there, they decided to on something else and heard one of them say, let's have a prayer time.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: And the next thing I knew, they were lined up, they went through a door and they were heading for somewhere and, well, I wouldn't have missed it for anything so I just tagged them all.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: And they went to a room, way to back of the church, and he went, got down underneath in a circle, in a big circle.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: So I got down on my knees with them, and down on their knees, they prayed all the way around.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: They were dedicated in their lives.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: They prayed for themselves.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: Dear Lord, I'm giving my life to you.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'm shredding my life to you.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's beautiful.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: Wonderful to hear these prayer.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: And when they'd gone all the way around the circle, I wondered to myself, what's going to happen now?
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: Well, in that long to wait, you know what happened next?
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: They started around second time.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: The first time around, they prayed for themselves.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: The second time around, they prayed for whom?
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: Mother and dad.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, rather than one after another, praying for their prayers, praying for their prayers, praying for their prayers, one-fifteen year old boy, I never forget he's prayers.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: It was moving, he said, dear Lord, help my dad to get on the ball for you.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't the father praying for his son.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: It was the son praying for his father.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: And after they prayed for their prayers and they got up and left.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: That night in the service.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: I told the church and the people and the congregation the parents, what had happened that morning?
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, I want two mothers and dads to know that you remember that not a one of you came down and they encouraged your son or daughter this morning.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: And when they went back in that prayer room after they dedicated their lives to God, those young people prayed for you, mother, and that it's you, they prayed for.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: I know that you, the ones that needed to be prayed for.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, I'll tell you what, your young folks have gone, most of them, but I said,
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: You can do it in this meeting.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: I said tonight, will you mothers and dads walk down in the soil and get on your knees?
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: Tell God, you're sorry that you didn't encourage your young people this morning and tell God, you're glad that they're dedicating their lives to you.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: And the one young folks who are here will be glad to know it.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: I said, what'd you do that?
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: We say two or three stances and not one single mother or dad, father, to the buds or do one single same thing, curse their young people.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: Now young folks, that's a sort of rejection.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think we're on the verge of revival that day.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: And I think they quench the spirit.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_02]: My friend, what a thought.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_02]: Let's not quench revival.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_02]: Let's be disciples of Jesus Christ.
