- 0:00SPEAKER_00: It's never too late to change your life.
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: A lot of times we think that we're the only one.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: We think that our story isn't gonna help anyone.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: That's how I felt.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: But what I realized is that people learn more by being inspired by others than being told what to do.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: It's always been okay for a boy or a man to be angry, but it was never okay to be sad.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: It was never okay to cry.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: It was never okay to let my feelings out.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: And I just don't believe that anymore.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: We all have stories that shape who we became.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Some we understand, some we still carry, and some we don't even recognize until another person helps us see them differently.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: I'm Andrew Michael, and this is the Andrew Michael Podcast.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Honest conversations about the experiences that shape us, the patterns we carry, and what becomes possible when we finally understand what's been driving us.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Sometimes hearing someone else's story is exactly what we need to better understand our own.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: But there was always a part of me inside that was hiding.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: My whole life, all I had wanted to do was retire at 40 years old.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: And then when I finally got that chance, that retirement didn't look the way that I wanted.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: There was so much rage.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Here it is, I had waited this whole time.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: I had this big pile of money, and I was full of rage and venom.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: I was so angry that anger had taken away a lot of my joy, and I just didn't want it anymore.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: That anger and rage led me to two doctors.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: One asked me, where does your rage come from?
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Where does this fire come from?
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: And he took me back to the very moment where the anger was born.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: It's always been okay for a boy or a man to be angry, but it was never okay to be sad.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: It was never okay to cry.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: It was never okay to let my feelings out.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: And I just don't believe that anymore.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: And those teachers taught me that it's one of the most healthy healing things I have been able to do is to share my feelings.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: I didn't want to do a podcast.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: I had a friend who I've known since third grade who told me three years ago, you need to do a podcast.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: And I was like, absolutely not.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: I'm never gonna do that.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: I don't want to talk about my feelings.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: But once again, she saw something in me that I didn't see in myself, and she planted that seed.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Part of the reason that I created the podcast is because I have learned from other people.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: And the podcast is my opportunity to sit across from those people and to give them the opportunity to be seen and heard, to share their stories in order to inspire other people.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: A lot of times we think that we're the only one.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: We think that our story isn't gonna help anyone.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: That's how I felt because I lived it.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: But what I realize is that people learn more by being inspired by others than being told what to do.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: So having that platform, that stage to inspire others is something that I take very, very seriously.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: And I'm honored when people want to come on there and share their stories.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: I'm a normal human being who has feelings, a lot of them that were suppressed, and has worked really, really hard to stand up and say, hey, I was an asshole.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Hey, I was mean, to acknowledge that a lot of times the words that I used really hurt people.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: It's never too late to change your life.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: I know that this is a really hard time.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: I know that there's a lot of change, I know that there's a lot of fear, and I know that you're scared to do it alone.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: You're not.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: I'm here with you.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: You also have to give yourself love and grace.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: It has taken me six years to get to this point.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: So while yes, I may walk around with a smile on my face and be happy, it was not always like this.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: There were days where I could not get out of bed, I could not function.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: There were days when I didn't know if I could wake up another day.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: But something inside me said, keep going.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: And I believe that that same thing is inside of you.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: You don't have to give up, you just have to find a way to do one thing a day that's gonna bring you joy.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: Sometimes hearing someone's story sparks change, gives you that little bit of motivation that you need to get up off your ass and do something different.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it's hearing someone else's story that allows you to give yourself permission that gives you the courage to finally take the first step that inspires you to believe that life can be different because it can.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: There were a bunch of people in my life that gave me the courage to do that, the strength to do that, and they helped build me into this.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: And now I have the opportunity to use these conversations to help you overcome.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: And in that, there's something beautiful and magical.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: And I just feel honored that you're here.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: You don't know what you don't know, but by listening to these episodes, you're gonna learn a lot.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: That's why these conversations matter because conversations show us things about ourselves.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: Some of the people you'll meet are in my book, some of the people you'll meet were after my book, some have known me my entire life.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: I've learned from all of them.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: People are mirrors.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: They show you things about yourself.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: Are you willing to look at that mirror?
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: Are you willing to have a conversation?
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: I wasn't hallways, but I am now.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: These people have shown me things about myself that I didn't know were there, and for that I'm grateful.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: I can't wait for you to hear these stories too.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: I can't wait for you to laugh with me and cry with me and learn with me.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: These people have changed my life, and I believe they can inspire you to do the same.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: If something in today's conversation made you recognize a piece of your own story, stay curious about it.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: You don't have to have all the answers.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: Sometimes awareness is where change begins.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: If you've enjoyed this episode, make sure to follow the show.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: And if someone came to your mind while you were listening, share this episode with them.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: I'm Andrew Michael.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: Until next time, thank you for being here and thank you for listening.
