Transcript
- 0:52SPEAKER_03: Hey guys, welcome back to the wonderful world of Remnant Radio.
- 0:54SPEAKER_03: In this program, we're going to be responding to a book from Jennifer LeClaire about spiritual warfare and defeating water spirits.
- 1:01SPEAKER_03: It's going to be an interesting program.
- 1:03SPEAKER_03: You guys stay tuned.
- 1:05SPEAKER_03: Guys, welcome back to the wonderful world of Remnant Radio.
- 1:09SPEAKER_03: As you know here on the show, we try our best not to scoff, not to mock.
- 1:14SPEAKER_03: And we want to continue within that thread of Christian charity while simultaneously uh suggesting that there are some teachings that are not created equal, right?
- 1:24SPEAKER_03: Like I disagree with Calvinist, like this one right here.
- 1:28SPEAKER_03: This this this Calvinist.
- 1:29SPEAKER_03: Look at that guy.
- 1:30SPEAKER_03: Look at him.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: Local disagreement.
- 1:32SPEAKER_03: I disagree with him on Calvinism.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: And I would say you mock me, actually, Josh.
- 1:37SPEAKER_03: Back to not on the back too.
- 1:41SPEAKER_03: Calvinism.
- 1:42SPEAKER_03: All that to say that like there are theological positions we disagree with.
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: Cessationism, we disagree with, right?
- 1:48SPEAKER_03: But we're we're nice, we're kind.
- 1:49SPEAKER_03: We show Christian charity.
- 1:50SPEAKER_03: We don't treat people as they're stupid.
- 1:52SPEAKER_03: However, uh well, first of all, and on a lot of the reasons that we do that is because one, it models the ethic of Christ, but then also those positions are defensible.
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: Me and Michael just did an episode on the Millennium that we taped that'll be released next week.
- 2:05SPEAKER_03: And we're like, look, uh pre-mill position, it's a very respectable position, really great theologians, it really doesn't work.
- 2:10SPEAKER_03: Uh post-mill, all-mill, same kind of category.
- 2:13SPEAKER_03: We're like, look, the respectable positions here.
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: Um, however, there are some theological positions that that are built on speculation and built on myth, built on visions, built on um in in this case, there are gonna be some wildlife connections.
- 2:30SPEAKER_03: Uh demonology theology is being built upon the structure of the animal kingdom.
- 2:35SPEAKER_03: Uh there is gonna be some wild methodology here.
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna do my best not to scoff, not to mock, while simultaneously trying to expose how absolutely erroneous this teaching is.
- 2:48SPEAKER_03: So if you're out there, you're a big fan of Jennifer Leclerc, uh, I want you to know this is not coming from a place of trying to mock or scoff, but simultaneously, I hope that you watch this video and realize, oh no, we have built an entire theology off of dream, vision, and speculation, something the scripture explicitly forbids us to do.
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: Uh Roundtree, I'll kick it back over to you.
- 3:09SPEAKER_03: Any any thoughts from you uh on today's program?
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, I think I can say without mocking that I think this teaching is is crazy.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: I think it's detached from the head to use Paul's language from Colossians chapter two, but we'll try to actually take the time to explain why.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: And uh and so yeah, Josh, I think let's begin actually working through it.
- 3:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so we started a little bit earlier.
- 3:33SPEAKER_03: So people who are just still punching in, I want to let you know that uh the clip that we're about to watch is the longest of all the clips.
- 3:39SPEAKER_03: What we've done is we've taken segments out of Jennifer Leclerc's book.
- 3:42SPEAKER_03: We've had an AI essentially read those, and they're gonna be up on screen so that you can see them.
- 3:47SPEAKER_03: There's gonna be multiple sections that are being quoted, but you will see the chapter number up on screen.
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: So she's gonna be talking about Python spirits, and we're gonna talk from chapter four, but then also chapter five, where she talks about defeating the python spirit, uh the Leviathan spirit, chapter seven, uh, and then some more uh from a different section in chapter seven.
- 4:05SPEAKER_03: Uh the squid spirit, where she also calls the sneaky squid spirit, chapter eight and chapter nine, and then the behemoth, chapter fourteen and fifteen.
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: So quite a few different sections.
- 4:15SPEAKER_03: They have been compiled together, and I've done my best to show you what chapter they're coming from, so that one, you can check the source material on your own if you'd like to, but then also it doesn't sound like all of this is being compiled as if it's from the same section.
- 4:27SPEAKER_03: So that's helpful to know.
- 4:29SPEAKER_03: It is the longest clip at seven minutes, uh, but all the other clips moving forward are going to be much shorter.
- 4:35SPEAKER_03: Uh, these clips are showing the Jennifer Leclerc's methodology uh in pulling information about the aquatic world, the the marine spirits, by making comparisons to animals and saying these spirits correspond to these animals.
- 4:52SPEAKER_03: Look how these animals operate in the natural, and then gleaning spiritual information from these natural uh beings that we see at work.
- 5:00SPEAKER_03: So here's clip numero uno.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: How pythons attack?
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: In the wetlands and the waters, pythons attack in several ways.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: One of the most common and the master technique is by coiling themselves around their victims.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: According to National Geographic, pythons strike at you and grab you with their teeth.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: They'll seize the prey item with their teeth and simultaneously wrap their coil around it and squeeze.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: And when the victim inhales, that's the time they squeeze a little bit harder to the point where you can't really get a breath anymore.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: 3.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Translating this to the realm of the spirit, pythons attack in the midst of turmoil.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: As opportunistic hunters, they often strike in the midst of drama when you most need to pray.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: Ariam Webster defines toil as turmoil and trouble.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Also, everyday cares and worries.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: When we carry our mortal coil, as William Shakespeare would say, when we carry our cares, instead of casting them on the Lord, according to 1 Peter 5-7, we are giving opportunity to this ambush predator to strike while we're weak and distracted.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Of course, that's not the only time Python strikes, but you could be walking in perfect peace on your mission in God, and, like Paul and Silas, get blindsided from behind.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Python snakes ultimately to put pressure on your heart.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: Scientists have concluded the heart goes into cardiac arrest before the oxygen runs out.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: In other words, the pythons are cutting off the blood supply that results in a heart attack.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: Or python spirits are attacking your heart, your lifeline to God through the blood.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: When Python attacks, you might feel lukewarm, like you've lost your passion for Jesus.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: But this results in prayerlessness and feelings of hopelessness and apathy and worship.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: Can you see the connection?
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Once the coiling begins, it affects every organ in your body, and it doesn't take long to snuff you out.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: Put in spiritual terms, when you feel the onset of a python attack, you have to act quickly.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: You aren't likely to die, but it can set you back physically and spiritually, for days or weeks or months, if you don't resist it.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: After a python snake cuts off your blood and oxygen, it swallows you.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Python snakes can swallow their victims in an hour.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: Denoting urgency is again key.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: The python spirit wants to swallow your destiny.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: Naturally speaking, one way to survive a python attack is to pull out a knife.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Spiritually speaking, you wield the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: See Ephesians 6.12.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: You can't just swing the sword one time.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: You have to keep swinging it until you are free from the python's coils.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: Naturally speaking, spraying a python with water can cause it to let go.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: We can use the water of the word to use praise and worship, and we shake off the attack.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: You can battle off a Leviathan attack, but you need to discern the attack.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: Because the crocodile's eyes, nose, and ears are high up on top of its skull.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: National Geographic reports it can still hear, see, and breathe when it's almost completely underwater, and a protective membrane closes over its eyes, serving as swimming goggles.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: That makes it especially difficult to detect.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, crocodiles have a strong sense of smell, which equates to discernment in the spiritual realm.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: Crocodiles aren't likely to chase you down and overtake you.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: They use a surprise attack, lunging out of seemingly nowhere.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: Crocodiles often hunt together, rather than swimming solo.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: Noteworthy is the fact that the muscles that close a crocodile's jaws are capable of generating enormous power.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Yet the muscles that open the jaws have little strength.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: Even a rubber band around the snout of a crocodile is sufficient to prevent it from opening its mouth.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: 7.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: These details are more than telling, but they are chilling.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Leviathan is not hunting you.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: Not really.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: You could be on its radar screen, but this spirit is likely to wait for you to get close enough to it, to strike, rather than seeking you out.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: I believe the more we move in pride, the closer we align ourselves with Leviathan, and the more likely we are to come under its influence.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: Crocodile attacks are often seasonal, but this is fascinating, as we know the enemy always comes at an opportune time.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: There's a Kairos time for a Leviathan attack against your life.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: When is a strategic season for Leviathan attack?
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: Crocodiles are most likely to attack in seasons of rain, temperature increases, and breeding season.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Translating this to the natural, rain demonstrates God's blessing, or the Holy Spirit falling, or on the contrary, storms.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: During times of promotion or moves of God in your life, watch out for Leviathan.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: But watch for him, when all hell seems to be raging against you already.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: The crocodile's attack during temperature increases.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: When you get on fire for God, watch out for Leviathan.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Remember it's his fire stirring in you.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: During breeding season, crocodiles attack.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: Beware of Leviathan, in seasons of spiritual growth or spiritual birthing.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: All of these times are prime times for pride in your heart, but to open the door to Leviathan.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: The good news is spiritual pride can be cured.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: The prescription is a strong dose of conviction, repentance, and humility.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: And I might say an ongoing effort to cooperate with the grace of God, to walk in the fear of the Lord.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: But Job's endless defense against his friend's accusations did not flee him.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: It was his humility.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: We find the account in Job 42, which, by the way, follows the Lord's intense description of Leviathan's pride in Job 41.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: Coincidence?
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: Hardly.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: Job was loosened from Leviathan's grip when he stopped defending himself, saw the error of his ways through the grace of God's revelation in Job 41, and prayed for his friends.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: It takes humility to pray for those who have persecuted you in your time of trial.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: The natural examination, with spiritual implications.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: In the natural, a squid is a cephalopod, with eight short arms and two longer tentacles.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: Different than an octopus with its big round head.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: A squid has a long skinny body, with fins on both sides, like an octopus, but the squid has tentacles.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: Merriam Webster defines tentacles this way, any of various elongate flexible, usually tactile or prehensile processes borne by animals, and especially invertebrates, chiefly on the head or about the mouth.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: The tentacles are essentially what science calls a muscular hydrosat, which works sort of like a tongue.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: Muscular hydrosats manipulate, catch that word, the things around it.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: People manipulate your mind with their tongues.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: Squids manipulate your mind with their sucker-laced tentacles.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: To be sure, the tentacles have lots of suckers.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: Squid suckers are even more effective than the octopus in capturing prey.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: Squids were created almost like a combustion chamber, with a piston that fires when something tries to escape the suckers.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: Remember Chinese finger traps from your childhood?
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: Some call them Chinese handcuffs, because once they are wrapped around your fingers, it's hard to break free.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: And the harder you try, the tighter the cuffs cling to your fingers.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: Here's a lesson.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: We're not wrestling against flesh and blood.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: See Ephesians 6.12.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: We can't overcome a squid attack in our flesh.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: The more we struggle in our flesh, the greater the hole this spirit seems to get on us.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: The more we get in our heads trying to figure things out, the more ground the squid takes, because the squid is attacking our head, our mind.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: Eckhart teaches the squid's tentacles need to be severed from the minds, but because it breaks mind control's power and speeds the deliverance.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: Psalm 129-4 assures us, the Lord is righteous, he has cut in two the cords of the wicked.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: We can sever the squid's tentacles by declaring, I sever the squid's tentacles in Jesus' name.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: The good news here is a squid's tentacles do not grow back once severed.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: If you get discernment that a squid spirit is attacking you, repent for any known open doors.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: Grab some intercessors, and get that sneaky stalker with its manipulating suckers off your mind, sever the tentacles, in the name of Jesus, and walk free.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: What makes squids especially dangerous, for example, is their pack mentality.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: Squids move in squads.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: That means you're typically not dealing with one squid attacking you, but you're dealing with a group.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: A humble squid is known to move in groups of 1,200.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: Two thank God.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: One warrior puts a thousand to flight, and two can put ten thousand to flight.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: See Deuteronomy 32 to 30.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: I've discovered that it's difficult to fight the squid alone.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: That is likely due to the squads of squids deployed against the believer's mind.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: When you discern a squid attack, wisdom calls for reinforcements.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: Consider for a moment the strength of the hippo, when considering the power of the spirit.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: The hippos are especially awkward and ugly creatures, but they are graceful in water, and strong swimmers, but they can hold their breath for up to five minutes, according to National Geographic one.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: Their eyes and noses are high on their heads, so they can remain almost completely submerged and still see above the water.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Hippos are the third largest living mammals.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: Only the elephant and white rhino are larger, according to live science, but they can grow up to nearly 17 feet and weigh up to 10,000 pounds.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: But that is certainly a behemoth.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: Hippos are very aggressive creatures and are very dangerous, live science reports.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: They have large teeth and tusks that they use for fighting off others that they see as threats, including humans.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: Sometimes, their young are the victims of their temper.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: During a fight between two adults, a young hippo can be hurt or crushed.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: The treasury scripture mentions behemoth's mouth is very wide, the jaws extending upwards of two feet, armed with cutting teeth, each 12 inches long.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: Spiritually speaking, behemoth has a loud voice that amplifies beyond the personal level to societies and even nations.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: His words are cutting and biting.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: Gill's exposition of the entire Bible suggests a behemoth nays like a horse.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: A neigh is a prolonged cry, according to Merriam Webster.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: Dictionary.com offers the definition whinny.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: This falls in the realm of yelling.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: Yelling is to cry out or speak with a strong, loud, clear shout.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: Live science reports, the hippos are very loud animals.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: Their snorts, grumbles, and wheezes have been measured at 115 decibels, according to the San Diego Zoo, about the same volume as being 15 feet, 4.6 meters, from the speakers at a rock concert.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: Hippos also use subsonic vocalizations to communicate.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: The behemoth is a voice that will be heard strong, loud, and clear as it shouts lies at your mind and into cities, nations, governments, and world systems.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: Ehemoth is cunning.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: His mouth is wide.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: His teeth are cutting butt.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: This principality is not invincible.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: But behemoths can be torn down with the voice of the Lord, which is like a hammer.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: Psalm 29, 4 to 5 tells us the voice of Yahweh breaks the cedars, and behemoth is compared to cedar.
- 12:57SPEAKER_03: Okay, um, this is a place that we can start.
- 13:00SPEAKER_03: Here's what we're gonna do uh give you an expectation of what's coming up on the program.
- 13:05SPEAKER_03: We are not planning on hanging out uh in a lot of the text because we're gonna double up.
- 13:10SPEAKER_03: Like Job had to defeat Leviathan with humility.
- 13:13SPEAKER_03: We're gonna address that in a later uh segment.
- 13:17SPEAKER_03: Um the one or two sending a 10,000 to flight, we're gonna deal with that in another video.
- 13:24SPEAKER_03: Um we really want to deal with some of the methodology here.
- 13:26SPEAKER_03: So here's the idea that uh quite a few people have found that there are categories of demons uh that hang out in the waters.
- 13:35SPEAKER_03: And the reason they go to this is that they go to uh passages like Job 40, Job 41, where Leviathan is mentioned, uh Python uh is being mentioned in Acts 16, uh, a couple of other uh spirits are are spoken of from the waters.
- 13:51SPEAKER_03: Now, it's important that people who have a biblical worldview understand the chaos imagery of the first century.
- 13:58SPEAKER_03: In the first century, the uh pictures of water uh can I kind of go all the way back to Genesis 1, that the earth was formless and without void.
- 14:06SPEAKER_03: It's like this desert, waterly, watery place.
- 14:09SPEAKER_03: Like it's it's it's both desert and yet water, and and God separates it and creates order.
- 14:14SPEAKER_03: Uh, this was a very popular motif in ancient mythology, uh, specifically with like Mesopotamian and like Egyptian like theology, where, and I say theology, mythology is probably the more appropriate word, uh, where deities had to fight this big battle and create order out of the chaos, almost dying in the process.
- 14:33SPEAKER_03: But Genesis is being written in such a way to tell a truthful story in a polemical way that God brought order out of creation through his speech.
- 14:41SPEAKER_03: Um, even the tanines of the water, the sea creatures that were created, were created by his speech.
- 14:46SPEAKER_03: He put them in their boundaries, he put them in their places by his own voice.
- 14:50SPEAKER_03: And then when you go to Job and you've got these sea creatures and python in in in uh Acts 16, uh, there's a story of a girl walking around Paul.
- 14:58SPEAKER_03: These men are from God, these men are from God.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: Paul cast out a python spirit.
- 15:03SPEAKER_03: There is some interesting and significant theological context with that that we will tackle just a little bit later, but the idea here is that there is a separate cosmology.
- 15:12SPEAKER_03: There are demons that are in front of you, there are principalities in the heavenly places, but additionally, there are um aquatic spirits that roam the sea.
- 15:21SPEAKER_03: Um that it's an interesting theological position.
- 15:24SPEAKER_03: Again, I think what's happening is they're making a mountain out of a molehill with the chaos language of the water, while also recognizing that some of these creatures are existing in the waters.
- 15:34SPEAKER_03: We'll tackle them each by one by one.
- 15:37SPEAKER_03: Maybe the first one that's most important to mention is the word python as it was used in Act 16, did not have the uh zoological framing that we now have today.
- 15:48SPEAKER_03: It wasn't until I think it was the 18, I have it later in my notes, the 18 or 1900s, where a, I think it was a French kind of zoologist started categorizing a python.
- 15:56SPEAKER_03: So the word python then meant something different than the word python now.
- 16:00SPEAKER_03: A good example would be like Jonah.
- 16:02SPEAKER_03: Uh Jonah was swallowed by a great fish, right?
- 16:05SPEAKER_03: Um, but we don't have uh a word for whale uh in the zoology of the ancient Near East, just big fish, little fish.
- 16:13SPEAKER_03: And uh we later categorized this being as a whale, uh, which is more of a mammal than an actual fish in our modern zoology, but that was not the case then.
- 16:23SPEAKER_03: So some people want to make a big deal out of, oh, Jonah was swallowed by a whale.
- 16:27SPEAKER_03: Uh no, he wasn't.
- 16:28SPEAKER_03: He was swallowed by a fish.
- 16:30SPEAKER_03: It's like you're you're using modern technical terms that the ancient Near Eastern authors didn't have those categories in mind.
- 16:37SPEAKER_03: So we need to, I think, start with what the biblical author had in mind when he wrote these things before we kind of determine downstream the implications of that.
- 16:47SPEAKER_03: Michael, I've monologued quite a bit.
- 16:49SPEAKER_03: There was a whole lot in this video, seven minutes of uh just really fascinating insights.
- 16:55SPEAKER_03: Uh, where would you like to start?
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: Gosh, it's hard to hard to know where to start, but I think a couple of things would be I think the biggest one is getting our demonology from the San Diego Zoo is not really what we want to do.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: We want to get our demonology from the Bible.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: We want to say the scripture says this and therefore that.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: Uh so even like on the python spirit, well, pythons travel in packs, usually 1,200 at a time.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: Well, let's go to the Bible.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: And the one place that a python spirit is mentioned in Acts chapter 16, usually translated spirit of divination, but can be translated uh spirit of python.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: And uh you go there and it doesn't appear there are 1200.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: There's actually one.
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: He casts out the spirit and the spirit leaves.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: That's where I want to get my demonology from.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: And uh, and so she she just looks at the zoological world, and I think that's a huge problem.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: And I think it overlooks the fact that it wasn't until uh Josh, I want to say maybe was it the 17th century or so when it was popularized that, like, oh, when it's talking about Leviathan, it's talking about uh, you know, this creature, when it's talking about uh the crocodile, and when it's talking about behemoth, it's talking about the hippo, etc.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: Like that that didn't come around until much later.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: Back then in Job's day, they weren't thinking, oh hippo, oh crocodile.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: And so, I mean, granted, there is a debate in scholarship.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: Like, when Job brings up these creatures, are they supernatural?
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: Are they earthly, or are they some kind of like weird combination?
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: Are they uh like a lot of interpreters will say something, sort of like when you go to like Ezekiel and he talks about the king of Tyre, but then he'll speak about the king of Tyre in a way that goes beyond the king of Tyre to speak of like uh you know, he was the original, he was like a garden cherub and had stones surrounding him and reached to the heights of heaven and so on, and they're like, uh, that goes beyond the king of Tyre.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: Seems to talk about Satan in his in his uh primordial fall.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: And uh, and so a lot of people will do this, say the same thing about like the creatures in Job.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: Like he might describe some earthly characteristics, such as like this one eats grass or whatever, but he also speaks beyond it and supernatural.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: And uh, like take for instance, Job 41.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: It it speaks of the Leviathan as it says it get it has uh flames from its mouth and smoke from its nostrils, nostrils, and breath that kindles coals.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: Now, could that be metaphorical imagery?
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: Maybe anyway, let me just finish.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: Psalm 74, 14, God crushed the heads of the Leviathan plural.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: Isaiah 27, 1 refers to the Leviathan as a fleeing serpent, a twisting serpent, and um which kind of uh it's almost word for word how the Eucharitic um Baal cycle description of uh the Lotan as the mighty one with seven heads.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: The Leviathan in Isaiah 27 has seven heads.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: Uh interestingly, Revelation 13 and is gonna pick up on that, um, or 12, uh, verses three and nine, a seven-headed dragon, which it names as the devil.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: So Leviathan isn't croc isn't really a crocodile in the ancient Near Eastern tradition.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: It was it belonged to this sort of sea dragon tradition.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: Um, and you know, crocodiles don't don't breathe fire and so on.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: So, like, I I think what I would say is I I think I would agree with the interpretation.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: Like, there could be some ways in which uh, you know, like ancient authors, just in describing these realities that were beyond them, might start out describing things that sound kind of earthly, but I I think part of the message of Job, which begins with Satan bringing all of these like curses and hardships or whatever you want to call them, is that there's a world of supernatural warfare behind it.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: But what we don't see in the book of Job is Job is the scripture prescribing for us all kinds of details about water marine spirits that we need to watch out for.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: And man, there are just so many things.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't even know where to where to respond.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: Like I just made some notes as we were listening, like the Python spirit, it can come after you uh when you're in turmoil, but also when you're in perfect peace, and also just when with everyday cares, so like basically at all times, okay.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: Um, it just like pythons can swallow up your oxygen, the python spirit swallows up your destiny.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: She's getting her theology from the nature of pythons.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: I I don't think so.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: Pythons can be chopped with knives, so we need the sword of the spirit.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: I I don't know.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, you could feasibly shoot a python.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: I mean, there are lots of ways you could kill a python, I suppose.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: You could poison them.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: Do we need the poison of the spirit?
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, like, how far do we take this?
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: Um, I I made some notes about uh the squid spirit, it manipulates just like squids manipulate in mind control.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: Uh, watch out for that squid spirit uh affecting your mind.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: I I don't know.
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: I don't see that.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: The one place is in Acts 16, it affects ability to tell the future.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: Uh I sever the squid spirit uh or the squid tentacles.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: Like that's not what Paul says in Acts 16.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: He just says, go in the name of Jesus.
- 22:12SPEAKER_03: Well, remember, the squid spirit is different than the Python spirit, they're separate spirits in her cosmology.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: I mixed that up in my notes.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: That's correct.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: Um, either way, we don't we don't ever see that in the scripture.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: We don't see anyone severing squid spirit tentacles.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: And I just I just get really nervous about deriving theology and spiritual practices that seem really secretive, like on like, hey, if you just study the right lines from neo National Geographic, or maybe hopefully you looked up the right place on Wikipedia to get your your zoology.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: Hey, if you get your zoology down, you can get your theology down.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, even the principle of marine spirits, I don't really really buy that.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh anyway, some so many things that uh that I could jump on, Josh, but I don't even know where to start.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: I know we got a lot to cover.
- 23:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 23:07SPEAKER_03: So I'll do my best to kind of run through some of these.
- 23:09SPEAKER_03: You mentioned one of them that I really like, but I want to I'm going to put the wording just as I worded it because I think it's punchy.
- 23:14SPEAKER_03: A framework that predicts an attack under every possible condition predicts absolutely nothing.
- 23:20SPEAKER_03: If an attack is going to come during times of drought and during stormy seasons, if it's coming during blessing and it's coming during trial, what you're saying is there's a potential attack at any season in life.
- 23:32SPEAKER_03: So that's not helpful.
- 23:33SPEAKER_03: It's like it's like predicting that, man, if you jump in your car today and you drive down the highway, there's going to be traffic.
- 23:39SPEAKER_03: But also if it's sunny outside, there might also be clear travels.
- 23:42SPEAKER_03: Like, what do you what are we even saying?
- 23:44SPEAKER_03: Like, that's not a prediction.
- 23:45SPEAKER_03: That is, that is just a fact.
- 23:47SPEAKER_03: If if you drive a car with the sun up, it's going to be traffic or not traffic.
- 23:51SPEAKER_03: Like the yes, obviously that's true.
- 23:54SPEAKER_03: So it predicts absolutely nothing.
- 23:55SPEAKER_03: Uh the next thing, you mentioned this, but like, what did the ancient Near Eastern authors have in mind when they were writing it?
- 24:01SPEAKER_03: That should be my focus.
- 24:02SPEAKER_03: And that's not going to change.
- 24:04SPEAKER_03: If I keep updating information from modern zoology, that means the text is always changing and evolving.
- 24:11SPEAKER_03: We don't want that.
- 24:12SPEAKER_03: That's not what the text is saying.
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: The text has a meaning, it has a purpose as it was inspired through the biblical author, and that is its meaning for all people and all time.
- 24:21SPEAKER_03: Additionally, to this, if we're going to take animalistic characteristics of these beings that transpose onto their spiritual counterparts, just remember not only is Satan compared to a saint, a a snake, but Jesus is compared to the serpent in Exodus, who's raised up.
- 24:37SPEAKER_03: And when all people look upon him, right, he'll draw all men to himself, right?
- 24:42SPEAKER_03: The disciples are called to be uh discerning and shrewd like vipers, right?
- 24:46SPEAKER_03: Um, and harmless as doves, that we see that the disciples, or not the disciples, but Jesus uh is like he has a roar like a lion, and and John turns around and he sees he's a lamb and the devil prowls around like a roaring lion.
- 24:59SPEAKER_03: If we take these kinds of characteristics about the demonic world, should we not also equally transpose those same characteristics onto Jesus, right?
- 25:08SPEAKER_03: Like that's the hermeneutic, that's where the hermeneutic leads.
- 25:11SPEAKER_03: And I think that is a bad hermeneutic.
- 25:13SPEAKER_03: We can't just say, okay, spiritually, uh, if there is a serpentine kind of connection, this is what serpents do.
- 25:19SPEAKER_03: Are you applying that same framework to Jesus, who is also compared in some sense in that regard to the the serpent who's on Moses' staff, who's lifted up and draws all men to himself?
- 25:29SPEAKER_03: Well, no, that's absolutely absurd because we have to take the biblical author's meaning.
- 25:33SPEAKER_03: So when John talks about Jesus being lifted up and drawing men unto himself, he's talking about the curse of people's sin, the sting of their sin being placed upon Christ.
- 25:41SPEAKER_03: When Satan is referred to a serpent, it's going back to the garden image, also to this kind of cosmic image of this great dragon who is tempting and destroying the world.
- 25:51SPEAKER_03: So they have different intentions.
- 25:53SPEAKER_03: We can't just say, oh, look, there's a snake, and then apply all of those theological implications of that snake to a spiritual being.
- 26:00SPEAKER_03: Uh that's incorrect.
- 26:02SPEAKER_03: Now, I say spiritual being, I don't want people to get confused.
- 26:05SPEAKER_03: Jesus is in a physical human body right now in the heavens while being God Himself.
- 26:11SPEAKER_03: Um, so that is neither here nor there.
- 26:13SPEAKER_03: But the the English words she plays on, you know, Miriam Webster over and over.
- 26:18SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, she pulls on Old English Hamlet to coil, and she's using a bunch of words and quoting a bunch of scholars that none of them will agree with her.
- 26:26SPEAKER_03: Not a single one.
- 26:26SPEAKER_03: Like she quotes Gil, Gil's not gonna include uh agree with her conclusions.
- 26:30SPEAKER_03: She she quotes these commentaries in these Bible, none of them are gonna agree with these sorts of conclusions.
- 26:35SPEAKER_03: Um, she is using language to make her sound more spiritual and reliable by saying, I've done all this research, but we're gonna come to find out the research that she actually pulls from undermines her own claim.
- 26:46SPEAKER_03: So if you go to, I'm gonna I'm gonna do 0.11 here, Michael.
- 26:49SPEAKER_03: I think I'm skipping one.
- 26:50SPEAKER_03: If you do 10, but uh, she applies two contradictory categories to the reading.
- 26:54SPEAKER_03: So in 1663, uh Samuel uh Borkert is the one who kind of saw these kinds of uh uh parallels of Leviathan and Bohemoth and uh all these texts in Job uh 40 and 41 and says, oh, these aren't really spiritual beings, these are animals.
- 27:13SPEAKER_03: Prior to that, virtually all of the scholarship would have agreed that these are actually some kind of spiritual deities, spiritual beings.
- 27:20SPEAKER_03: That would have been the Jewish perspective, it would have been, I think, the early Christian perspective.
- 27:24SPEAKER_03: As we walk through this, there are quite a few uh connections there.
- 27:27SPEAKER_03: But what she does is she says, some scholars see these as animals, some scholars see these as spiritual beings.
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: And then what she does is she borrows both and picks and choose whenever she wants.
- 27:37SPEAKER_03: And the illustrations don't actually apply.
- 27:39SPEAKER_03: You know, God says, who can hold the tongue down of Leviathan?
- 27:42SPEAKER_03: And then, you know, LeClaire says, actually, you could strap his mouth down with a rubber band.
- 27:47SPEAKER_03: It's like which one am I supposed to listen to?
- 27:51SPEAKER_03: Am I supposed to listen to God who says, you can't shut the mouth of this thing?
- 27:55SPEAKER_03: Or do I listen to Leclerc, who's like, actually, hardly any force can keep the mouth of this thing down?
- 28:00SPEAKER_03: Like, which one is it?
- 28:02SPEAKER_03: Um, and I think that again, when we go into the zoological claims, we look at all the fancy information that we have about animals, and we try to transpose that onto the theological text that has nothing to do with that thing, we're gonna come away with all kinds of crazy takeaways.
- 28:19SPEAKER_03: Uh, Michael, I've I've monologues too long.
- 28:21SPEAKER_03: Anything else you want to add to that?
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: Uh no, and Josh, I already covered 10.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: So I think I'm gonna jump down our notes a little bit.
- 28:30SPEAKER_01: Um, I want to just quote from Job 40 here, where it talks about behemoth, where it says, Behold, behemoth, which I made uh which I made as I made you.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: He eats grass like an ox.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: Behold, his strength is in his loins, his power in the muscles of his belly, he makes his tail stiff like a cedar, his sinews and his thighs are knit together, talks about his bones, his limbs, uh, and it says the mountains yield food for him.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: Doesn't sound very hippo-like.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: I don't know any hippo that's like climbing mountains.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: Um under the lotus plant, he lies.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's a little more hippo-y uh in the shelter of reeds and in the marsh.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: His shade is in the lotus trees.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: Uh okay, so the thing is none of these talk about the hippo's voice, and that's what she focuses on with Behemoth is his loud voice.
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: And so this spirit can somehow like speak into cities and nations, and and so I'm just like, what are we what are we to even do with that?
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: Like, it feels as though she's picking and choosing which traits.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: So, but do you notice, like, instead of talking about the traits listed in scripture, like, even if she was to do this, even if she was to say, you know what, the traits described of this creature are gonna tell me more about the demon, even if she was to try to pull that off, like just go to the text to pull it off.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: But instead, she just says, Oh, people say it's a hippo, I'm gonna go to National Geographic or Wikipedia or ChatGPT or whatever source she went to to figure out what hippos do.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: And oh well, uh and of course she did go to John to Gil's treasury of scripture knowledge, which was actually based on a more um a late development reading of even what this creature was, but loud voices never mentioned, and so I I just think it's it's poor exegesis to be thinking this way, and I think it's actually dangerous because I think what it does is it convinces people that if uh that they they pretty much have to go to Leclerc and people like her to figure out about these so-called marine spirits.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: There's no such thing as marine spirits, guys.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: There's no such thing, no such thing as water spirits.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: And um, I'm not denying that water and demonic spirits share some kind of imagery in some places.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: Uh, we do see the dragon uh uh associated with the sea, kind of, although he's more like on the shore of the sea in Revelation 12.
- 30:59SPEAKER_01: Uh I'm not saying that it's completely absent, but I mean also if we want to get real technical, Matthew 12, spirits wander in waterless places.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: They prefer the not water, if we want to get really technical there.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: But there's really just no such thing as aquatic spirits, marine spirits, all the things that we hear of.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: And they're they're making stuff up.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: You don't need to go to these people for experts.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: Demons go when you command them to leave because you have authority in Jesus.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: That's that's it, and you don't need these special tools.
- 31:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and that's one of the things that I think we really need to push on the program because you know she'll starts off her book talking about how we I just don't want you to be ignorant of the enemy's devices, and then goes on to explain the enemy's devices and the enemy's tactics and the enemy's MO through zoological references, through her own personal experience and the personal experience of others.
- 31:47SPEAKER_03: It's it's almost completely untethered from the text.
- 31:50SPEAKER_03: You know, she makes the mention of Python spirit in Acts 16, and she even rightly attributes it.
- 31:54SPEAKER_03: It's it's actually crazy.
- 31:55SPEAKER_03: If you go read uh her chapter on Python, she she starts off talking about, you know, the these tribes of people who worship a python, right?
- 32:04SPEAKER_03: Uh and then uh she goes back to the biblical text and then says, Yep, this is what was going on with the Oracle Zodelphi, and then goes to zoology and explains this is what pythons do.
- 32:14SPEAKER_03: But like in 1803, there was a French zoologist, uh D-A-U-B-I-N, Daubin, I don't know how to pronounce that name, uh, was the one who categorized these constricting snakes as pythons.
- 32:26SPEAKER_03: So back in Paul's day, he wasn't even talking about a constricting python as we know it today.
- 32:30SPEAKER_03: Python in Acts 16 is a reference to the oracles of Delphi, this place where in myth mythology of the Greeks, a uh Roman, uh Greek god by the name of uh Apollos kills a uh dragon named Python.
- 32:45SPEAKER_03: Uh, it is uh dies, and then they build the oracle of Delphi on top of it.
- 32:49SPEAKER_03: The remains of the dragon are said to like emerge from uh the ground, and the priestesses go in, they get high on this uh, you know, uh steam or this gas that's released from the temple, and they begin to prophesy and they whisper into the ears of the priest, the priests then interpret uh that prophecy, and it was a very effective uh sort of prophetic delivery uh in the early first century period uh around when the disciples lived.
- 33:14SPEAKER_03: So when Paul says he cast out a spirit of divination out of this girl, and he says it was a python, Luke says it was a python spirit.
- 33:21SPEAKER_03: What he's trying to do is get the first century reader to realize that this girl was able to divine information because she came from that line of people at the Oracles of Delphi.
- 33:31SPEAKER_03: He's trying to give them a connection to how she was able to uh use these powers of of uh divination to know the future.
- 33:39SPEAKER_03: It was because it was tied to this ancient uh practice of sorcery.
- 33:43SPEAKER_03: In the same way that today, if someone is going to uh participate in kundalini yoga and try to yoke themselves with Brahmin and trying to release their chakras, and I might command a spirit of kundalini to come out of them, I'm not giving that deity a proper name as much as I am saying this is how that thing got in, and this is this is the kind of demon it is that's causing this problem because of this kind of idolatry.
- 34:08SPEAKER_03: This girl had this kind of problem because of her idolatry.
- 34:12SPEAKER_03: And here Paul is commanding it to leave, and I say her problem, her idolatry was the problem.
- 34:17SPEAKER_03: Uh, but but that's the point of using the Python name.
- 34:20SPEAKER_03: It wasn't because of a constricting uh uh ability that girl uh in Acts 16 is not recorded having symptoms or like headiness or or dizziness or or any kind of restriction of her heart.
- 34:31SPEAKER_03: She was a pagan, for goodness sake.
- 34:33SPEAKER_03: Uh Paul comes in, uh, commands this thing to leave.
- 34:37SPEAKER_03: Um Acts 16 contradicts her symptoms.
- 34:40SPEAKER_03: The spirit's effects in the text is divination.
- 34:43SPEAKER_03: Uh the girl follows around the missionaries, these men are from God, these men are from God.
- 34:46SPEAKER_03: The trouble that follows uh is that they are kind of thrown into stock.
- 34:49SPEAKER_03: So she's gonna say that, hey, look, look, they're constricted.
- 34:52SPEAKER_03: But like that was not the work of Python.
- 34:55SPEAKER_03: That was the work of a jailer.
- 34:56SPEAKER_03: There was one Python, it was taken care of.
- 34:58SPEAKER_03: Now they're imprisoned and they praise and worship.
- 35:01SPEAKER_03: It wasn't through any kind of act of humility that got them out of these chains.
- 35:06SPEAKER_03: Um I can go on and on forever.
- 35:09SPEAKER_03: Uh there's a bunch of proof text in here.
- 35:11SPEAKER_03: She she mentions, um, I want to make sure I'm in the right place.
- 35:14SPEAKER_03: She mentions this phrase about the the squid spirits, I want to call them jellyfish.
- 35:20SPEAKER_03: She said, the the the squid spirits, they they travel in these massive packs, and she goes, Praise be to God, right?
- 35:25SPEAKER_03: Praise be to God that one uh, you know, or two, two can send 10,000 to flight.
- 35:30SPEAKER_03: Um Charismatics, I love you so much.
- 35:33SPEAKER_03: I I'm one, I love casting out demons, praying for the sick, doing prophecy.
- 35:37SPEAKER_03: That Bible verse is not a promise, it is a threat.
- 35:40SPEAKER_03: And I usually say that phrase backwards.
- 35:42SPEAKER_03: I usually tell people this Bible verse about bearing fruit is a promise, not a threat.
- 35:46SPEAKER_03: But this one is in fact a threat and not a promise.
- 35:49SPEAKER_03: If you go and read Deuteronomy 32, what you're gonna see, verse 16, they stirred him to jealousy with strange God and abominations, that they provoked him in anger.
- 35:59SPEAKER_03: Uh, they sacrificed to demons that were not God, to gods they had not known, uh, new gods that had recently, uh uh who had come recently, whom our forefathers had deserted, over and over here in this passage in verse one.
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: It talks about how they scoffed at the rock, the rock being God here.
- 36:14SPEAKER_03: Uh, and then if you if you go down, uh and he said, This is God speaking, I will hide mine face from them, I will see to their end, uh, for for their uh uh for they are a perverse generation, children in whom is no faithfulness, they have made me jealous uh uh with what is not God, uh, they have provoked me with anger, with their idols.
- 36:34SPEAKER_03: And then he goes on in verses 23 and 24 to talk about how he's gonna hit them with plagues and hit them with pestilence, and then in verse 28, when he talks about warring nations coming in to destroy Israelites, he says, For they are a nation void of counsel, there is no understanding in them.
- 36:50SPEAKER_03: If they were wise, they would have understood this.
- 36:52SPEAKER_03: They would not discern their own end.
- 36:55SPEAKER_03: How could one have chased a thousand and two put ten thousand to flight unless their rock had sold them and the Lord had given them up?
- 37:04SPEAKER_03: The passage is about Israel and how two guys are gonna come into Israel and cause, or one guy's gonna come into Israel and cause a thousand to flee, and two guys are gonna come into Israel and cause ten thousand to flee.
- 37:15SPEAKER_03: This is a passage about God's judgment for idolatry, not fighting sneaky squid spirits.
- 37:21SPEAKER_03: Uh I don't know how else to say it.
- 37:23SPEAKER_03: This is uh we've got to stop quoting that Bible verse.
- 37:26SPEAKER_03: And I want to give some credit to Jennifer.
- 37:28SPEAKER_03: If we if we quote a verse, uh, you know, you you you get you get credit for being wrong here.
- 37:33SPEAKER_03: You you you need to go figure out what that verse is about.
- 37:35SPEAKER_03: It's not about demons.
- 37:36SPEAKER_03: But also, this is a larger thing in the charismatic movement.
- 37:40SPEAKER_03: We have uh heard that phrase being quoted and we start quoting it not knowing the context of it.
- 37:45SPEAKER_03: And we need to go back to the sources, remind ourselves of the source, and if that is a biblical use of that phrase.
- 37:51SPEAKER_03: Um, that it's that's pretty rough.
- 37:53SPEAKER_03: Um Michael, I've monologues.
- 37:56SPEAKER_03: Do we need to hit the next clip, or do you got anything else you want to add to this?
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: I think we better hit the next clip, or we might not get through this episode.
- 38:02SPEAKER_03: Sounds good.
- 38:03SPEAKER_03: Okay, we're gonna do Jonah and Job's story.
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: Jonah 117 tell us the Lord appointed a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Johan was in the stomach of the fish for three days and three nights.
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: Some translations, including the International Standard Version, use the phrase large sea creature.
- 38:19SPEAKER_00: Children's Bible stories say it was a whale, and some Bible commentators say Leviathan was a whale.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: Did Jonah open himself up to a Leviathan attack through his self-righteous pride and rebellion?
- 38:28SPEAKER_00: Breaking free from Leviathan.
- 38:30SPEAKER_00: Whether Job and Jonah fell prey to Leviathan through pride could be debated until Jesus comes back.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: But the two men of God had similar experiences, and they broke free with similar strategies.
- 38:39SPEAKER_00: Given there is a clear connection between pride and Leviathan, and especially spiritual pride, we'll explore just how Job and Jonah escaped their trials.
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: Edwards concluded that until the disease of spiritual pride is cured, medicines are applied in vain to heal all other diseases.
- 38:53SPEAKER_00: The good news is spiritual pride can be cured.
- 38:55SPEAKER_00: The prescription is a strong dose of conviction, repentance, and humility.
- 38:59SPEAKER_00: And I might say an ongoing effort to cooperate with the grace of God to walk in the fear of the Lord.
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: Job's endless defense against his friends' accusations did not free him.
- 39:07SPEAKER_00: It was his humility.
- 39:08SPEAKER_00: We find the account in Job 42, which, by the way, follows the Lord's intense description of Leviathan's pride in Job 41.
- 39:14SPEAKER_00: Coincidence?
- 39:15SPEAKER_00: Hardly.
- 39:16SPEAKER_00: Job was loosed from Leviathan's grip when he stopped defending himself, saw the error of his ways through the grace of God's revelation in Job 41, and prayed for his friends.
- 39:24SPEAKER_00: It takes humility to pray for those who have persecuted you in your time of trial.
- 39:27SPEAKER_00: Job 42, 10-17 offers the end of Job's story.
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: The Lord restored the fortunes of Job when he prayed for his friends, and the Lord increased all that Job had twofold, and all his brothers and all his sisters, and all who had known him before came to him, and they ate bread with him in his house, and they consoled him and comforted him, for all the adversities that the Lord had brought on him, and each one gave him one piece of money, and each a ring of gold.
- 39:48SPEAKER_00: The Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning, and he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys, he had seven sons and three daughters.
- 39:58SPEAKER_00: He named the first Jemima, and the second Kaziah, and the third Karen Habit.
- 40:03SPEAKER_00: In all the land no women were found so fair as Job's daughters, and their father gave them inheritance among their brothers.
- 40:08SPEAKER_00: After this, Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his sons and his grandsons, four generations.
- 40:13SPEAKER_00: And Job died, an old man, and full of days.
- 40:16SPEAKER_00: Likewise, Jonah's display of humility through prayer is what delivered him from the great sea creature.
- 40:21SPEAKER_00: Jonah too reveals.
- 40:22SPEAKER_00: Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the stomach of the fish, and he said, I called out of my distress to the Lord, and he answered me.
- 40:28SPEAKER_00: I cried for help from the depth of Sheol, but you heard my voice, for you had cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the current engulfed me.
- 40:35SPEAKER_00: All your breakers and the billows passed over me.
- 40:37SPEAKER_00: So I said, I have been expelled from your sight, but nevertheless I will look again toward your holy temple.
- 40:42SPEAKER_00: The water encompassed me to the point of death.
- 40:44SPEAKER_00: The great deep engulfed me, weeds were wrapped around my head, I descended to the roots of the mountains, the earth with its bars was around me forever.
- 40:50SPEAKER_00: But you have brought up my life from the pit, O Lord my God.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: While I was fainting away, I remembered the Lord, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple.
- 40:58SPEAKER_00: Those who regard vain idols forsake their faithfulness.
- 41:01SPEAKER_00: But I will sacrifice to you with the voice of thanksgiving, that which I have vowed I will pay.
- 41:05SPEAKER_00: Salvation is from the Lord.
- 41:06SPEAKER_00: Then the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah up onto the dry land.
- 41:10SPEAKER_00: This is a battle the Lord fights for you when you take the posture of humility.
- 41:18SPEAKER_03: Michael, go ahead.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 41:22SPEAKER_01: Well, it's you know, she starts out by saying the fish uh by making a connection between the fish and Leviathan the fish, the whale and Leviathan, which is a stretch.
- 41:36SPEAKER_01: The text never calls the calls it Leviathan.
- 41:39SPEAKER_01: And so she's gonna make principles on spiritual warfare and defeating a Leviathan spirit based on a text that doesn't even use the word Leviathan.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: I mean the Bible knows the word Leviathan.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: It could have used the word Leviathan, it doesn't use the word for Leviathan in the book of Jonah.
- 41:55SPEAKER_01: And so that I think that would be my first thing is she's making connections that aren't there.
- 42:01SPEAKER_01: And that sounds like somebody who wants a text to mean something so that they can make a point.
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: And I think that's something that we always have to uh have to be careful about.
- 42:11SPEAKER_01: Um and then if we go to if we go to Job, uh she makes it sound like Job's pride was the cause of his suffering, but the narrator itself indicates that's not the case, that's not the point.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: The the narrator in Job 1.1, the very first verse, calls Job blameless, and then God will call Job blameless in verse 8.
- 42:32SPEAKER_01: And then in chapter 2, verse 3, God tells the accuser, You incited me against it to destroy him without reason.
- 42:38SPEAKER_01: So she makes it out like hey, Job got really proud, so God brought all this stuff.
- 42:44SPEAKER_01: And the irony is she's actually in this in this reading, she's actually agreeing with Job's friends, who are like the bad guys of the book of Job.
- 42:55SPEAKER_01: The friends are not good.
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: You know, Job's like, Man, I'm really suffering.
- 42:58SPEAKER_01: This hurts a lot.
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: And they're like, Yeah, well, it's probably your fault.
- 43:01SPEAKER_01: That's what Jennifer Leclerc's doing.
- 43:04SPEAKER_01: And so, like, hey, the solution to not you know, to this Leviathan to this Leviathan proud spirit that Job's suffering from is just humble yourself and don't be proud.
- 43:13SPEAKER_01: And I'm just like, uh, this it sounds like her recipe is uh like her her recipe for healing or success here is to obey Job's friends, and I don't think that's the case.
- 43:25SPEAKER_01: Now, we I think we do see some exhibitions of Job's pride later uh in in the book.
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: So like he starts out and he is blameless, and uh and we see that in chapters one and two.
- 43:37SPEAKER_01: But Job does get a rebuke later, and God takes him, you know, I view it as God taking him into deeper levels of holiness.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: I think when it comes to like pride, I don't I don't think there's ever a moment where any of us is like perfectly humble.
- 43:50SPEAKER_01: Uh we're not Jesus.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: So suffering kind of brings out some of that aspect that that wasn't present to start with, but there's no indicator in the text that Job suffered on account of pride, and in fact, it's the opposite.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: He suffered despite being blameless and innocent.
- 44:08SPEAKER_01: So uh so I don't like her reading there, and she just has all kinds of rules about spiritual warfare that basically sound like you know, she wants the fish in Jonah to be Leviathan spirit.
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: What would that even mean?
- 44:22SPEAKER_01: That a Leviathan spirit swallowed Jonah?
- 44:25SPEAKER_01: Um even there, she wants the rest of the like the cure for the Leviathan spirit from the book of Jonah to be humble yourself, like Jonah.
- 44:35SPEAKER_01: I mean, Jonah, I think, did humble himself in chapter two, but by chapter four, he's he's right back where he started, if not worse.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, you have repentant pagan Nineveh and the unrepentant prophet at the end of the story.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: I think it's hard to make a point about like humility will save you from Leviathan when that's the case.
- 44:54SPEAKER_01: So uh she's she's drawing all kinds of conclusions about spiritual warfare that the text doesn't warrant.
- 45:01SPEAKER_01: And we already have enough clear path, like I don't I don't need Jennifer LeClaire or anyone else to give.
- 45:06SPEAKER_01: Me, the secrets of the Bible that no one in all church history has ever seen until she and um really, really, really hyper charismatic people came along and showed us the true meaning of the Bible by researching the realities of the San Diego Zoo.
- 45:21SPEAKER_01: Like, no, like we actually have enough about spiritual warfare in the Bible to know how to deal with demons.
- 45:27SPEAKER_01: We resist the devil and he will flee from us.
- 45:30SPEAKER_01: We put on the armor of God, we wage warfare with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left, and we take down demonic strongholds, and uh we resist the devil with the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: But like the stuff that she says is not from the Bible.
- 45:46SPEAKER_01: And uh so I don't know, I just get concerned for God's sheep.
- 45:51SPEAKER_01: Like reading Jennifer Leclerc and thinking, oh, this is why I have all these problems in my life.
- 45:57SPEAKER_01: It's because of the Leviathan spirit, or the po the Python spirit got coiled around my mind, or the sneaky squid, its tentacles are are manipulating me.
- 46:08SPEAKER_01: That's why I have these problems.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: No, the reason you have problems is because you live in a uh you you were born into the world.
- 46:16SPEAKER_01: That's why you have problems.
- 46:17SPEAKER_01: And we have three enemies: the world, the flesh, and the devil.
- 46:21SPEAKER_01: All three appear in Ephesians 2, 1 to 3.
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: And uh there's not a magical, like, secret code in the Bible for learning what these spirits are and how to deal with them.
- 46:31SPEAKER_01: The New Testament actually directly tells us how to win the spiritual battle.
- 46:35SPEAKER_01: Obey the clear verses of scripture, don't go chasing secrets that will explain your problems.
- 46:41SPEAKER_01: What you'll do is you apply these things and and it actually won't fix your problems.
- 46:45SPEAKER_01: And we're gonna continue to have some problems until Jesus returns, and that's just the way it is.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: Um, but wage war like the New Testament tells you, spiritually speaking.
- 46:54SPEAKER_01: Don't don't follow this, it's it's not biblical, Josh.
- 46:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and you know, she makes a statement.
- 46:58SPEAKER_03: I'll I'll be real brief because we need to keep pushing through this.
- 47:01SPEAKER_03: She says, Hey, we could debate, you know, until Jesus returns whether the great fish is a Leviathan or not.
- 47:06SPEAKER_03: It's like you'll be debating with yourself.
- 47:08SPEAKER_03: Nobody believes that.
- 47:09SPEAKER_03: Nobody believes that.
- 47:10SPEAKER_03: Why, why debate?
- 47:12SPEAKER_03: Why debate this?
- 47:13SPEAKER_03: Like nobody nobody believes this.
- 47:14SPEAKER_03: Like you you've made a point in your book, and and I'm I'm gonna be pretty brutal here to to have a new novel idea that you can sell.
- 47:22SPEAKER_03: Like there there is no need for you to go, oh, you know what, this fish is a Leviathan.
- 47:27SPEAKER_03: No one in the history have ever has thought that was Leviathan.
- 47:29SPEAKER_03: The Holy Spirit didn't just reveal to you something that the the authors of the scriptures themselves did not reveal, uh, to say that, oh, this is a sneaky, you know, Leviathan spirit that swallowed him up.
- 47:39SPEAKER_03: Here's the thing uh we've done some work on this.
- 47:41SPEAKER_03: You can go back and watch her episode on Leviathan.
- 47:44SPEAKER_03: She might not be wrong when it comes to Job uh saying that Job is experiencing a Leviathan trial all throughout the book, because Leviathan is probably a pseudonym for the devil.
- 47:54SPEAKER_03: Like we we've gone through uh a lot of these passages, Isaiah chapter 7, verse 1, and in times context says the Lord will say to Leviathan, the twisting serpent and dragon of the sea, G.K.
- 48:05SPEAKER_03: Beale in Isaiah uh 27, uh, verse 1 and Revelation chapter uh 12, verse 9 connects these two things together as a connection to say uh that uh that the Leviathan and the great serpent in Revelation 12 are likely the same being.
- 48:19SPEAKER_03: Dr.
- 48:19SPEAKER_03: Michael Heiser makes that same claim.
- 48:21SPEAKER_03: So, like, look, I I actually think the Leviathan is a spiritual being.
- 48:25SPEAKER_03: I think it's the devil.
- 48:27SPEAKER_03: And I don't think the devil swallowed up Jonah.
- 48:31SPEAKER_03: I just don't think so.
- 48:32SPEAKER_03: So uh yeah, I it's not a thing that's not happening.
- 48:35SPEAKER_03: Um if you look at really good scholarship when it comes to this subject, uh, do I think that the the the Leviathan can be a serpent?
- 48:43SPEAKER_03: Uh that that it's a picture of this great cosmic battle between God and the devil?
- 48:48SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 48:49SPEAKER_03: Um, but but then to instantly go from spiritual being to animal, that's the problem she keeps making.
- 48:55SPEAKER_03: She keeps jumping to natural animal to spiritual entity.
- 48:59SPEAKER_03: You can't have it both ways.
- 49:00SPEAKER_03: But but she does.
- 49:01SPEAKER_03: I mean, in the from the very beginning of the book, she talks about almost drowning.
- 49:06SPEAKER_03: And she says that there was a spirit, an invisible spirit, enticing her as a as a child, as an infant, uh, in floaties.
- 49:12SPEAKER_03: So she's like, what, four and under, six and under, something like that.
- 49:14SPEAKER_03: And she she falls into the water, her parents weren't looking in, she's being dragged under the water, and and she goes, that was a that was a marine spirit trying to take my life.
- 49:22SPEAKER_03: I'm like, no, that that was a child in a dangerous situation, drowning.
- 49:28SPEAKER_03: That's what that was.
- 49:28SPEAKER_03: There was nothing spiritual going on there.
- 49:30SPEAKER_03: Like uh to make natural things spiritual and spiritual things natural over and over with absolutely any distinction, uh, it creates room.
- 49:38SPEAKER_03: You know, I told Miller on the phone that it seems so close to divination.
- 49:43SPEAKER_03: It's not divination, but dang it if it's close.
- 49:46SPEAKER_03: If I if I open up animal entrails and look at the entrails to try to predict the future, I'm using natural things to divine supernatural information.
- 49:53SPEAKER_03: If I do tea leaves, I'm like trying to look at natural things to find supernatural information.
- 49:57SPEAKER_03: And in this situation, she is looking at natural beings, serpents and and hippos and crocodiles to try to divine, try to learn supernatural information of the way that these beings operate.
- 50:10SPEAKER_03: And it's not divination, but dang it if it's not close.
- 50:13SPEAKER_03: Um, and I think we have to be very discerning of these sorts of things, because people will come in with a Bible verse and a commentary, and oh, the Greek word actually means this, and they will literally put the scales over your eyes.
- 50:26SPEAKER_03: Um, pun intended.
- 50:28SPEAKER_03: Uh let's watch clip number two on Rahab's spirits, unless you got anything else you want to add.
- 50:32SPEAKER_02: Nope, let's roll.
- 50:34SPEAKER_00: We find mention of this spirit in Isaiah 51 to 9.10.
- 50:37SPEAKER_00: Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord, awake as in the days of old, the generations of long ago.
- 50:43SPEAKER_00: Was it not you who cut Rahab in pieces, who pierced the dragon?
- 50:46SPEAKER_00: Was it not you who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep, who made the depths of the sea a pathway for the redeemed to cross over?
- 50:52SPEAKER_00: Although some theologians and translations point to this Rahab as a symbol of Egypt, and others contend this a mythological creature, its idea of the dragon signifies something greater than a nation or a myth.
- 51:02SPEAKER_00: And, again, we know that gods or spirits in the world of mythology are many times actual demon entities that wreak havoc in the earth.
- 51:09SPEAKER_00: Rahab is one such demon, a marine demon that attacks during times of crossing over.
- 51:13SPEAKER_00: Rahab is clearly associated with a dragon spirit in Isaiah 51 9-10.
- 51:18SPEAKER_00: Eliot's commentary for English readers suggests Egypt invoked a god named Ra from the Egyptian Book of the Dead.
- 51:24SPEAKER_00: Isaiah seems to be asking God to raise up against the oppression upon the Israelite people, like he did against the Egyptians.
- 51:30SPEAKER_00: In the New International Version, Job 9.13, speaks of Rahab, but God does not restrain his anger.
- 51:35SPEAKER_00: Even the cohorts of Rahab cowered at his feet.
- 51:38SPEAKER_00: In the New King James Version, Rahab is translated proud helpers, but some Bible commentators translate it as helpers of pride.
- 51:44SPEAKER_00: The pulpit commentary reveals Rahab in this passage, and also in Job 26-12, as well as in Isaiah 51 to 9, seems to be used as the proper name of some great power of evil.
- 51:54SPEAKER_00: Such a power was recognized in the mythology of Egypt, under the names of Set, or Typhon, and of Abaphia, the great serpent, continually represented as pierced by Horus.
- 52:03SPEAKER_00: In the earlier Arian myths, there is a similar personification of evil in Vitra, called Dasia, the destroyer, and a perpetual enmity with Indra and Agni.
- 52:11SPEAKER_00: The Babylonians and Assyrians had a tradition of a great war in heaven, carried on by seven spirits, who were finally reduced to subjection.
- 52:19SPEAKER_00: All these seem to be distorted reminiscences of that great conflict, whereof the only trustworthy account is the one contained in the revelation of St.
- 52:25SPEAKER_00: John.
- 52:26SPEAKER_00: There was war in heaven, Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon fought and his angels, the helpers of the present passage, and prevailed not.
- 52:33SPEAKER_00: Neither was their place found any more in heaven.
- 52:35SPEAKER_00: Revelation 12:7 to 8.
- 52:37SPEAKER_00: Job, it seems, had inherited one of such traditions, one in which the power of evil was known as Rahab, the proud one.
- 52:43SPEAKER_00: And he means here to say that God holds not only men in subjection, but also beings much more powerful than man, as Rahab and his helpers, who had rebelled and made war on God, and been eased down from heaven, and were now prostrate under God's feet.
- 52:55SPEAKER_00: Indeed, the name Rahab means proud and quarrelsome, according to Hitchcock's Bible Names dictionary.
- 53:00SPEAKER_00: Smith's Bible dictionary defines Rahab as signifying fierceness, insolence, and pride.
- 53:05SPEAKER_00: The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia defines Rahab as storm and arrogance.
- 53:09SPEAKER_00: The encyclopedia also reveals the Talmud in Baha'Bathra speaks of Rahab as master of the sea.
- 53:14SPEAKER_00: Hitchcock's secondary definition is large and extended.
- 53:17SPEAKER_00: That comes from the root verb that means to be or become large or wide, and is used to indicate the spaciousness of land or territory.
- 53:23SPEAKER_00: According to Aberim Publication's biblical name vault, Tom's study Bible name list connects the name Rahab with violence.
- 53:29SPEAKER_00: Jones's dictionary of Old Testament proper names defines Rahab as insolence.
- 53:34SPEAKER_00: Abarim reports Ha theological Wordbook of the Old Testament and BDB, theological dictionary, offer an original meaning of storming against something or someone.
- 53:42SPEAKER_00: Are dragons real?
- 53:43SPEAKER_00: Rahab, the dragon, is raging against many in the church.
- 53:48SPEAKER_03: Okay, I can't, I can't, I I I I'm I'm I'm feeling feeling the blood pressure boiling a little bit.
- 53:56SPEAKER_03: Couple things I'll say right out the gate.
- 53:57SPEAKER_03: She confuses two different words, Rahab and Rahab.
- 53:59SPEAKER_03: There's a Rahab of Jericho, and there's Rahab in the book of Isaiah.
- 54:04SPEAKER_03: Uh in the Isaiah reference, uh Rahab is clearly a reference to Egypt.
- 54:09SPEAKER_03: In fact, you see it in the book itself explain that Rahab is Egypt.
- 54:14SPEAKER_03: So like there's not a spirit of Rahab, it's just a way of referring to Egypt.
- 54:18SPEAKER_03: It's like an idiom of a name, like Israel or, you know, uh I'm trying to think of Israel, Edom, and and the language surrounding the Edomites or whatever.
- 54:30SPEAKER_03: Like you can use these uh Samaria referring to the southern kingdom.
- 54:34SPEAKER_03: You know, you can you can use language like this to refer to regions.
- 54:38SPEAKER_03: Um and the here Rahab is referring to um uh Egypt in Isaiah.
- 54:43SPEAKER_03: But then she also starts quoting like Smith's commentary and lexical commentaries about the word Rahab and says, well, Rahab means this, and Rahab means this, and Rahab means this.
- 54:50SPEAKER_03: But what she accidentally does is she quotes the Rahab from Jericho and not the same word Rahab in Isaiah.
- 54:56SPEAKER_03: They're actually slightly different spellings, and all of the commentaries actually pick up on this.
- 55:00SPEAKER_03: Uh but also the commentaries and the Smiths that she's like quoting from uh says, Hey, this is definitely Egypt.
- 55:07SPEAKER_03: Um so she's she's skirting past the parts of those commentaries that explain what this objectively is, and then she's going to like the meaning of the word so that she can say, look at all these scholars, they all say this is the meaning of the word, and then she applies it with a spiritual application.
- 55:24SPEAKER_03: None of these people agree with her.
- 55:25SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 55:26SPEAKER_03: So like the idea that, like, uh uh, you know, she's she's looked really academic here, quoting all of these references, but if you kept reading those references, you would see that those people say Rahab is Egypt.
- 55:38SPEAKER_03: Um, nothing else is going on there in the text.
- 55:41SPEAKER_03: Michael, I'll punt it over to you.
- 55:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, just same thing as what you're saying mostly.
- 55:48SPEAKER_01: The context controls the imagery, Isaiah 51, it recalls the Exodus, it portrays uh God's defeat of Egypt through dragon imagery, um, with with Rahab probably as Egypt and the dragon as Pharaoh.
- 56:02SPEAKER_01: And uh, and and so she just seems to be making up connections that describe how she wants to uh to depict spiritual warfare tactics.
- 56:13SPEAKER_01: And and the theme of that section, even even where demonic entities might be at play as like a a sort of background meaning, it's it's not giving us, I guess, war orders from a commander on how we wage spiritual warfare.
- 56:30SPEAKER_01: So I believe in spiritual warfare, it's real, but that's not what Isaiah 51 is uh is giving us a lesson on how to wage.
- 56:38SPEAKER_01: Uh it's it's recalling the Exodus and and talking about God's uh God's victory.
- 56:44SPEAKER_01: Uh the part where she says like attacks while you're crossing over, that's just invented.
- 56:50SPEAKER_01: Um, this the passage, you know, in recalling the Exodus is like God making a pathway for the redeemed.
- 56:56SPEAKER_01: It's not about Rahab, you know, getting some kind of Rahab spirit to attack you.
- 57:01SPEAKER_01: Like the whole message is about God's God's victory, and she's turned it into a warning about demon spirits that you need to learn how to wage war on.
- 57:11SPEAKER_01: And so it's just once again, taking all uh biblical imagery and turning it into a detailed uh demonology without biblical warrant.
- 57:22SPEAKER_01: And uh I think it's I think it's dangerous, and I think it's the it's once again this whole thing of just I'm gonna find secret meanings in the Bible uh that nobody else has ever been able to find, and I'm gonna present these to you, and you have to buy my book in order to find out about it.
- 57:39SPEAKER_01: Uh secret meanings, it's just I just want to warn our audience, just run away from that.
- 57:45SPEAKER_01: Uh give me the main and the plane.
- 57:46SPEAKER_01: That's what I want.
- 57:47SPEAKER_01: What's the message of Isaiah 51?
- 57:49SPEAKER_01: Let's focus on that instead of secret hidden meanings in the text that if you have this secret hidden meaning, then you can secretly know how to engage in spiritual warfare tactics that themselves are secret, with weapons that are secret and methods that are secret.
- 58:04SPEAKER_01: And I'll share all the secrets because I looked something up in a dictionary and because I consulted National Geographic, and now I uh I will give you all the spiritual tactics.
- 58:12SPEAKER_01: It's just the same thing, man.
- 58:14SPEAKER_01: It's really frustrating.
- 58:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, last thing I'll add on this one is the passages that talk about Rahab, Rahab's already defeated.
- 58:23SPEAKER_03: Like that's an interesting point here, is that Isaiah 51, verse 9 is past tense.
- 58:28SPEAKER_03: God cut Rahab into pieces.
- 58:30SPEAKER_03: Psalm 89, 10 says God crushed Rahab like a carcass.
- 58:35SPEAKER_03: Job 26, verse 12 says that he shattered Rahab.
- 58:39SPEAKER_03: And Job 9, 13 says Rahab's helpers uh are cowering beneath the Lord, right?
- 58:45SPEAKER_03: So like in all of these accounts, it's defeated, it's broken, it's it's it's uh brought to destruction.
- 58:51SPEAKER_03: Even the Talmud passage that she brings up uh says that the waters had to cover up Rahab so that like you didn't smell her carcass.
- 58:58SPEAKER_03: Um the pulpit commentary that she quotes ends with Rahab being kind of prostrate under the feet of God being crushed and defeated.
- 59:06SPEAKER_03: So like, you know, she's she's quoting these verses to say, oh, look how dangerous this enemy is.
- 59:10SPEAKER_03: When it's like the text only mentions God conquering Egypt and that they've been conquered and they've been laid low and he has defeated them and he scattered them to pieces uh at the the crossing of the the the Red Sea there.
- 59:21SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 59:22SPEAKER_03: Um I I I would say we've got a huge video on sneaky squid spirits and a whole video on behemoth.
- 59:28SPEAKER_03: Let's finish out behemoth, Michael, and then call it a day, because we're at 58 minutes, and I don't know how much people really need to know about sneaky squid spirits, um, but it's entirely up to you.
- 59:38SPEAKER_03: What do you think?
- 59:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think we can finish that because it's I think what what people can see is it's hitting on the same points each time, is uh is making up new demon tactics and war uh and demonology understanding based on zoology, based on whatever dictionary she looked into.
- 59:59SPEAKER_01: And it's just uh it's not how we interpret the Bible, it's not how anyone has ever interpreted the Bible, at least not anyone responsible throughout church history.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_01: And uh, and so it's just gonna be the same thing.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_01: But I think it it is it is helpful for us to hit each point, but I think by the before we get to sneaky squid spirits, they'll have already understood it.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_01: And and just even just the name, sneaky squid spirit, it's almost laughable.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_01: I feel like I'm in a children's cartoon.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_01: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_01: Like it's like is Swiper a demon, you know, from like Door the Explorer?
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_01: Like, how far do we take this?
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_01: It just sounds silly.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, let's uh let's do was it behemoth you said we were gonna go with last?
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_03: I mean, if you're if you're committed to it, we can do behemoth, we totally can.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_03: But if we did sneaky squid spirits, the difference about that one is that she does not quote scripture.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay, my bad quote.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_01: So you inverse, you want to go straight to sneaky squid.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_01: Not we could.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_03: I'm just saying there are options for it.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_01: Just roll.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_01: I'm ready for both.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_03: Okay, let's let's let's sneaky squid it because the difference between the behemoth.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_03: If we did behemoth, guys, it'll look it'll look just like we we did Leviathan and Rahab, but if we do sneaky squid, it'll be like there's no scripture here.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_03: It's just vain imagination and vision and dream.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_03: It's it's entirely different.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_03: So let me let me click that one.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_00: Pen, my friend, told me she saw a vision of herself with a big squid lodged atop her head.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_00: I knew enough about the unseen world to understand a spiritual attack was underway.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_00: What I didn't know was that a sneaky squid spirit would soon start stalking me.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_00: Right about now, you might be scratching your head and asking, with all sincerity, what in the world is a squid spirit?
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_00: Essentially, it's a spirit of mind control, but its effects go way beyond what you would think.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_00: In his classic book, Demon Hit List, one John Eckhart lists mind control and defines it this way octopus and squid spirits having tentacles, confusion, mental pressure, mental pain, migraine.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_00: Sounds a lot like witchcraft.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_00: I imagine it is a form of witchcraft.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_00: As I have taught for many years, there are many expressions and many manifestations of witchcraft.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_00: In Eckhart's deliverance and spiritual warfare manual, two, he offers a deeper explanation of mind control.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_00: Spirits that control the mind and affect the way a person thinks.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_00: If evil spirits can control the thoughts, they can defeat the individual.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_00: Proverbs 23-7.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_00: Mind control is a very important spirit in Satan's arsenal.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_00: Invasion of the giant squid.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_00: I believe the natural often parallels the spiritual realm.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_00: As we witnessed the overrun of pythons in the Florida Everglades, for example, we saw more python witchcraft in the atmosphere.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_00: If these parallels ring true, then a 2009 Associated Press Report is especially disturbing.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_00: Thousands of jumbo-flying squid, aggressive five-foot-long sea monsters, with razor-sharp beaks and toothy tentacles, have invaded the shallow waters off San Diego, spooking scuba divers and washing up dead on beaches.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_00: The so-called Humboldt squid, which can grow up to 100 pounds, are native to the deep waters off Mexico, where they have been known to attack humans.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_00: Could it be possible the natural realm is manifesting what is going on in the spirit realm with squids and octopuses?
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_00: I believe so.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_00: What's scary in that regard is the reality that researchers have only explored about 5% of the ocean.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_00: Just as we don't know what really lives in the sea, we likely do not understand the depth of marine demons.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_00: But we can rely on the Holy Spirit for revelation as needed, conquering the squid spirit.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_00: After this squid spirit attacked my friend, I went to her home to help her battle it.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_00: The attack was severe, but when I laid hands on her and commanded the squid to be bound, the most violent symptoms would cease.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_00: Of course, but when you stand in the gap, you often take a hit.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_00: That squid spirit started stalking me.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_00: I ended up with a migraine during the battle, a manifestation of that mind control spirit, and was attacked in my mind for days afterward.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_00: After that squid skirmish, I was reading Richard Aang's book, Spiritual Warfare, and he described the spirit of mind control, as often seen as a giant squid with ten tentacles that stick into brains or cover heads.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_00: He said it sometimes looks like a brown cylinder or dark brown bands that cover someone's head and body.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_00: He went on to discuss a vision he had one night, after praying about this squid's spirit.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_00: I found myself floating a few hundred feet above a park-like clearing.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_00: I saw a grassy area surrounded by trees.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_00: In the center of the clearing, someone held a large bunch of balloons of various colors.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_00: In the second scene, I saw a man with a wide dark brown band around his head and around his body.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_00: The bands appeared almost black in color and looked like the metal bands that hold wooden barrels together.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_00: Suddenly, something cut or broke the bands, and they fell off.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_00: The man smiled.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_00: Immediately, I found myself above the park again.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_00: Then, I saw the balloons floating freely up towards and beyond me.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_00: It seemed as if the person holding the balloons had let them go.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_00: They floated into the heavens.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_00: The very next day, I sat in church discussing the spirit of mind control.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_00: The assistant pastor shared that he had received a vision the night before, in which he found himself bound up with dark brown bands around his head and body.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_00: He went after the spirit of mind control that night, and a number of people received deliverance from that spirit.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_00: People may think you are all out crazy if you mention a squid spirit.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_00: I've had mean-spirited Christians, who are ignorant of the reality of the spiritual warfare world, persecute me for exposing this demon.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_00: In fact, they've even made posters of me with squids over my face, and printed t-shirts that claim no squid spirit formed against me shall prosper, quoting two tentacles as the verse.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_00: I would advise never to mock the things of the spirit, because they are more real than what you can see.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_00: Many times when we mock things in the spirit, we don't understand.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_00: We open ourselves up to attack.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_00: I pray my persecutors never meet with a squid spirit.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_04: I just hear you chuckling.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_04: Nobody can hear you but me.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_04: Um no squid spirit forming against me will prosper.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_04: That is I bet you anything that's Chris Roseboro.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_04: As much as me and Chris don't see eye to eye, funny is funny.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_04: Um I mean, I I yeah, anyway.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_01: So this one's worse.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_01: It's it's the worst.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_01: It's the worst.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_01: Okay, guys, she quotes Proverbs 23:7.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_01: She just quotes it and she says, she starts out by talking sneaky squid.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_01: Sneaky squid's real.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_01: What's sneaky squid?
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_01: It's about mind control.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_01: And if a and if a squid, if a spirit of mind control can get control of you, it can destroy you, something like that.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_01: Let me get the exact wording.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_01: Uh it says, because I don't I don't it says, if an evil spirit can control the thoughts, they can defeat the inner individual.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_01: Proverbs 23, 7.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_01: What does Proverbs 23 7 say?
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_01: Does it talk about sneaky squid spirits controlling your mind?
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_01: It's it warns against eating with a stingy man who says, Eat and drink, but his heart is not with you.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_01: Where is the sneaky squid there?
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_01: Josh.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry, that was kind of loud.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_03: He's so he's so sneaky you can't see him.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_01: Where's the mind control?
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_01: Guys, guys, this is insane.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_01: This is insane.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_01: If you were reading Jennifer McLare, I'm gonna tell you, pull an Acts 19 and burn your book.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_01: This is sorcery.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_01: This is new age.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_01: This is not Christian.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_01: Jennifer McLare.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_01: I I'm sorry, Josh.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_01: I've got to take off the gloves here.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_01: Jennifer McLacre needs to repent.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_01: If you're reading her stuff, you are more likely to need deliverance by practicing Jennifer McLare's theology than by not.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_01: Like, this is demonic stuff.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_01: She is detached from the head.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_01: She is filled up with her own visions.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_01: She's making all kinds of conclusions about a type of spirit that can control your mind based on a Bible verse that never mentions a spirit.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_01: Certainly never mentions a sneaky squid.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_01: Doesn't even mention mind control.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_01: It's literally a random verse.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_01: It would be like if I said Revelation 942, verse 8 means sneaky squid spirits coming for you in your sleep.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_01: Like it's that divorce from reality.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_01: Guys, this is horrible.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_01: This is demonic.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_01: This is new age.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_01: It is sorcery.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_01: It's gross.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_01: It's not Christian.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_01: This is not Christian teaching.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_01: Run away from it.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_01: If you're listening to this and you read generally, you think that I'm being harsh.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_01: I I have no stronger words than I can use.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_01: This is demonic, and I don't have a problem calling it heresy.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_01: It is so divorced from biblical reality.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_01: It's disgusting.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_01: And you can hear her say there are a number of deliverances that that we've seen through this.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_01: I put that in the Matthew 7 category of many have cast out demons in my name, and I will say, I never knew you.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_01: I'm not going to pronounce uh statements about whether Jennifer Leclerc is saved or not.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_01: That's not my place.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_01: Uh what I I would want to know how she would articulate the gospel.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_01: God I'd tell you this she's got no gospel in her teaching that I've heard.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_01: I've heard a decent amount.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_01: Maybe she's preached the gospel somewhere.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_01: Maybe she has.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_01: Maybe she can even articulate the plan of salvation.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_01: But I can tell she's not gospel-centered, she's not Christ-centered.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_01: She's filled up with visions.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_01: This is garbage.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_01: And I'm I'm actually angry about it because she's selling a lot of copies of this garbage, and she's feeding garbage to sheep, and sheep need food.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_01: And food is the word of God, it's not this.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_03: The teaching is fishy for sure.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_03: Um, I'll tell you what.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_03: Josh, it is fishy for sure.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_03: It doesn't smell right.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_03: Um listen, look, look at her sources here.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_03: A friend's vision of a squid over her head, John Eckert's Demon List.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_03: Uh Eckert's Deliverance Manual.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_03: Uh, 2009 AP story about the squids, and uh an assistance pastor's vision, a future revelation that's needed about these squids.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_03: Like they're they're in a verse taken taken completely out of context.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_03: Everything here is built upon your own personal revelation.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_03: And imaginations.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_03: I I know, I know that people out there are like, hey, you know, like I think God can speak to us and lead us in these strategies.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_03: But like Paul explicitly teaches that people who teach doctrine on myth and speculation, right?
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_03: When Paul writes to 1 Timothy, it's like it's they're not holding fast to the truth.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_03: They're trying to stir up dissensions and divisions in the body of Christ, building theology on myth and speculation.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_03: Colossians chapter two talks about going on vain imaginations, going on in great teachings about visions and being puffed up in your imagination about angels and other sorts of things, worship of angels and asceticism.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_03: Guys, this this is just wild mythology.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_03: And here's what it does: it, it, it tries to find a person who doesn't know a whole lot about a spiritual, uh, uh spiritual battle, spiritual warfare.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_03: And they go, hey man, I just don't want you to be, I don't want you to be naive of the enemy's devices.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_03: Let me teach you about things.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_03: I just I want I want you I want you to be mature and discipled.
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_03: And they go, Yeah, I want to be mature and discipled.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_03: I I don't I don't want to like fight the enemy and not know I'm fighting the enemy.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_03: Like, yeah, sure, teach me.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_03: And then they start quoting some Bible verses.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_03: And it's like, well, well, they're teaching from the Bible.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_03: And then, and then they start quoting um, you know, a bunch of uh scholarly works, and they go, Well, they've clearly done their research, and they start making parallels with the animal kingdom, and they go, well, at least, at least there's some kind of consistent logic here.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_03: And then, oh, they've heard from heaven.
- 1:10:53SPEAKER_03: Oh, they they saw this revelation.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_03: And it's like, what it's done is it's it's preyed on someone's um naivety by saying, Hey, I don't want you to be naive.
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_03: I know that you're naive.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_03: And then they sell them a bag of goods.
- 1:11:05SPEAKER_03: That is not the historic Christian faith.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_03: And I'm I'm deeply concerned about people Jennifer Leclerc is the beginning, right?
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_03: Like you, you, this has been the pattern in church history.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_03: Kenneth Copeland, not good.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_03: Catherine Crick, maybe worse.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_03: Uh uh, Origen, man, he's taught some weird stuff, but Arius came right after Origen.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_03: They take the teachings of someone who's aberrant and disconnected from the head, and then they go 12 eons beyond them, and it gets worse and worse and worse.
- 1:11:37SPEAKER_03: And the church has to be able to draw a line in the sand and say, no more.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_03: We cannot go beyond what is written, what is commanded to us in scripture.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_03: The apostles seem extremely silent about these sneaky squid spirits, about behemoths, about Leviathans.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_03: And it's possible because they understood the Christian worldview here that a Leviathan uh is clearly speaking of the devil.
- 1:11:58SPEAKER_03: Um, and I say clearly, I I'm inclined to believe that it is speaking of the devil.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_03: Uh, I think there is room for debate on this.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_03: I do believe that it is a spiritual being of some kind.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_03: Uh, and and I man, to to to to do this kind of pretzeling with theology and with words, uh I don't want to like assume motive here, but I I can't see how in good conscience anyone writes this book without just trying to like, I'm gonna I have to find a new secret thing to pawn off so people will buy my book.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_03: I just I I cannot, and maybe it's just because I have a limited understanding of who this person is in the culture that she grew up in.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_03: Maybe it's totally possible that she she has just been trained to this kind of hermeneutic her whole life, but I have a really hard time not seeing that this former was it president or uh uh what she was she was in charge of charisma for the longest time.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_03: She she was either the editor or the president of charisma for the longest time.
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_03: Now she works with Destiny Image.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_03: Of course, this book was published by Destiny Image.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_03: I I can't believe I've spent this whole program talking about it and not bringing it up till now.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_03: Um oh man, we're at the 11, an hour and 11 minute mark.
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_03: Michael, Christina texted us both saying, don't forget to make these announcements.
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_03: We've got to make these sneaking announcements.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_03: I gotta wrap this program up.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_03: Uh uh, I'm gonna pull up these announcements here uh that we were supposed to be have made earlier on.
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_01: Josh, while you're in the show you're doing that, do that.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_01: I just want to make one more one more comment on the video.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_01: She said she talks about mean-spirited Christians who are ignorant.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_01: She mocks uh she uh people who mock and open themselves up to attack.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_01: Uh and she talks about she finishes with saying, I pray that my persecutors never meet with a squid spirit.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_01: Here's the thing this is what charismatics have been doing.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_01: What's that?
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_03: I said we won't because it doesn't exist.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_01: I'm not worried about I'm not worried about a cartoon spirit that's fake.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_01: Jennifer Clare, you or someone else made up a sneaky squid spirit.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_01: It doesn't exist.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_01: I believe in demonic spirits.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_01: I believe the devil is real.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_01: Like all of that, yes, I don't believe a sneaky squid spirit is real.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_01: It's a made-up, it's a cartoon.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_01: And uh, and honestly, you oh you did, you opened yourself up to attack, like literally attack from from other people who are just going to say this is utter and complete nonsense.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_01: You did that to yourself when you say insane things and people call you out for being insane, that's not called persecution.
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_01: And uh, and but charismatics have been doing this forever.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_01: They've they've been sort of like jumping ahead of any sort of criticism and saying, if anyone criticizes me, a demon will come for them.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_01: If anyone criticizes me, it's uh, you know, this sort of charismatic covering is gonna be gone and and you'll be outside the blessing and in the curse and so on.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_01: So this whole like it's like a repetitive or a different version of culture of honor.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_01: We as Christians are called to test the spirits, test everything.
