- 0:00Hey everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:03coop. So today I have a question for
- 0:06you. Have you ever really paid
- 0:08attention to your language? The words?
- 0:10You use and really just kind of like, monitored, what you were
- 0:13saying? How you were saying it?
- 0:15The inflection in which you were using it?
- 0:18Well, I thought it would be an interesting question to ask all
- 0:21of you because I pay attention to your language all the time.
- 0:25Like my I should say, I pay a lunch tension, very close
- 0:29attention. Two of my clients language all
- 0:31the time and one of the things that's so fascinating to me
- 0:35about it is, I mean, it's kind of a thing now.
- 0:38I'm kind of like focused on it wherever I go, I listen to how
- 0:41people talk and this past weekend, we went out to dinner
- 0:45and there was a group of people sitting behind us and they were
- 0:48talking and I have to tell you I was listening to how these
- 0:52ladies were talking and I was like flabbergasted that they had
- 0:57no clue about how they sounded. Two other people and if they
- 1:02did, they really didn't care. And it just got me thinking
- 1:04about how everything in my world when I'm working with clients is
- 1:09listening to how they talk about things, what they say, how they
- 1:12think comes out in the language and I can I can always find
- 1:17Clues as to what's really going on in their head by their
- 1:20language patterns and I do this for myself too because I will
- 1:24hear myself say something. And I'll say oh wait that came
- 1:28out sounded very very Impatient or snarky, or whatever it might
- 1:34be, because I can catch it in myself now and I'm not great at
- 1:39doing it all the time, but I am good at doing it.
- 1:41I would say, 75% of the time I can catch myself and then there
- 1:45are the 25% of the times that shows up that I have no clue
- 1:48what the heck I'm doing with it and I just it just goes in and
- 1:52then I have to deal with it. But doing an inventory, for
- 1:56yourself is super powerful because you have the control
- 1:59over your life. Which obviously and once you
- 2:03know you have the control over your language and you start
- 2:06paying attention, Everything Changes dramatically because
- 2:09you'll say, oh that doesn't fit the identity.
- 2:11I want, that doesn't sound like the person.
- 2:13I choose to be that sounds like somebody that I once was but not
- 2:17anymore. So this little experiment of
- 2:21monitoring your language really thinking about it and paying
- 2:25attention to it, it's not easy. Let me just say this, it's not
- 2:29easy. You actually We have to think
- 2:31about it, catch yourself, go into the day with the intent of,
- 2:35I'm going to catch my language today.
- 2:36I'm going to see what I'm telling myself, about everything
- 2:39around me. It's, it's part of a great
- 2:42experiment about being Mindful and becoming hyper aware as well
- 2:45because if you're hyper aware, you know, where you're getting
- 2:47hung up. So you can help yourself and
- 2:50participate in your own rescue because ultimately everything
- 2:53comes down to being able to participate in your own rescue,
- 2:56not relying on everybody else to rescue you.
- 2:58But really participating in your Ask you.
- 3:01So I would say one of the most wonderful things that I know for
- 3:05sure for myself is that I have this ability, once I know it I
- 3:10can I can change it, it's just I can't change what?
- 3:13I don't know. So I assume that you're going to
- 3:17feel the same way about this because I feel like once I know
- 3:20it, I have no excuse as to not change something.
- 3:23I just have to know it and then I can work on changing.
- 3:26It, will it be easy to change it?
- 3:28No. But at the same time, Time.
- 3:30It'll be worth it. So I would suggest, you know,
- 3:34you can use the app in your phone, your notes app in your
- 3:37phone, you can use your little voice recorder.
- 3:40You can just take good old pencil and paper and start
- 3:43writing down. Things that you catch yourself
- 3:45saying and look for the things that are repetitive because
- 3:48repetitive things make patterns. So, the more you repeat
- 3:52something, the more, you believe it, the more, it becomes a
- 3:54pattern, whether it's true or not.
- 3:57And I can tell you, I have seen some very Functional patterns in
- 4:02language that have come right out of my own house.
- 4:05When I was a kid, my mother's dysfunctional patterns of how
- 4:08she would say things and I would say every time she saw someone
- 4:12walk into a room, she would look at them and she'd say, what's
- 4:15wrong and that pattern carried over carried over.
- 4:19And I had to catch myself doing it and say, I don't want to say
- 4:23that all the time, there's nothing wrong.
- 4:24Why am I focused on that? But it's language patterns, they
- 4:28really make a difference. So So today, this week the
- 4:33month, however, long you want to do it, if you really want to
- 4:36shift your world, start paying attention to your language.
- 4:39Patterns look right away. See what shows up and figure it
- 4:43out because I promise you, you will learn an awful lot from it.
- 4:47All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 4:49will see you tomorrow. Bye.
