- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Hello, hello everyone, and welcome back to another episode.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: I'm so excited to be diving into hair loss and what to do about it.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: This has been a highly requested topic, and we're gonna dive into the nitty-gritty, what's causing it, what you should do, what to look into, etc.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: So before we dive in, I want you to imagine first enjoying a fuller head of healthier hair, seeing those thinning areas thicken up, you know, washing, combing, and styling your hair without worrying, and really learning to take back control of this shedding.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Because that's what we're gonna do.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: So, how much hair loss is normal?
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: That's the first thing because there is a degree of hair loss that is normal.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: So you lose about a hundred hairs a day.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: And normally you don't even notice, and that's because your hair is constantly growing in its place, you know, maintaining that thickness, but with hair loss, hair isn't growing as much as being lost, and that can either lead to thinning of hair or balding, either patches or an overall thinning.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Now, regardless of like the type, whether it's like the patchy type or the overall, um, the question I often get from patients when they come to me for one-on-one or well-nourished is why is this happening and is there anything I can do about it?
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: And I get it, it can be an extremely stressful experience.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: I just had, you know, someone this morning like text me about having their hair loss and being really stressed out and what we can do about it.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: So we um came up with stuff we can do for her, and it makes sense, right?
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: No one wants to lose their hair, and we often think you know that it can be one thing, or is it just this or just that, or let me throw on some, you know, of those Instagram hair vitamins, and that's going to solve all of it.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately, that is not the case.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: There's normally a multi-factorial or like multiple reasons why it's happening, and there's definitely a chance to like not only stop it but reverse it and even get thicker hair.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: So if you're worried about hair loss, do not panic, keep listening, and we're gonna dive in.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: So, what's really causing the hair loss and thinning hair?
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: I see like clients all the time that deal with this issue, and I'm here to tell you that there's something that you can do about it because most of the time it's due to like the physical, like the health reasons, but also the emotional, and that's why all those like sugar beer hair vitamins are not going to fully work because you're not addressing the root and you're also not doing the emotions.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: So let's break into each of them one by one.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Hormones first.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: Hormone systems are even more complex than you could ever imagine.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: I could do like 12 episodes on hormones alone and it probably wouldn't even cover it.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: But what you need to know is that when your hormones get out of balance, this can affect a ton of different aspects of your health, including the hair on your head.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: One group of hormones that are particularly important for hair health are thyroid hormones, which are important for helping signal the regrowth of new hair to replace the hair that we lose every day.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: So, what do you need to do?
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: You need to work with someone like me or someone else who can identify if thyroid issues are a root for you so that you know whether your thyroid is out of whack.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Please, please, please do not go self-prescribing like natural thyroid supplements because if this is not the root cause for you and it's maybe something else, or maybe it's a different hormone that's not thyroid, um, maybe it's an androgen hormone, maybe it's connected to your estrogen, progesterone, then you're gonna throw it out of whack and you're gonna end up causing more harm than good.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: This is why people like me go to school for four years to like get a degree in natural pathic medicine so that we know exactly what the root is.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: So oftentimes um people come to me, they've self-prescribed these natural hair supplements, and oftentimes it's not doing them good.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: So that's number one.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: The next one, and probably the most biggest one, is stress.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Also, because stress causes like hormone imbalances, but like because everything in the body is connected.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: But when you are extremely stressed, your body starts to funnel all its energy and resources away from things like hormone health and hair health, and it goes right to the fight or flight response.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Okay, this is also why you can lose your cycle.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: I have lots of episodes on um losing your cycle, so go back to that.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: I'm also gonna do a little mini pod one on that, but for right now, stress is going to cause hair loss because when you're stressed out, keep in mind when you're stressed out and your body's in fight or flight, it doesn't know the difference between like the stress from a pandemic and the stress from running from a tiger.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: So it's like, well, I'm not gonna worry about growing Liv's hair right now because I'm running from a tiger or I'm going through a pandemic, or I'm going through whatever it is, a divorce, a relationship, job, this, whatever it is.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: This is all gonna take a toll on your hair health because all of your body's resources are not gonna go there.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: So stress with a capital S is one of the most common causes of hair loss, one of the biggest ones that also is going to be an overarcher because you can eat right, take all the vitamins, but if you are stressed out, all of that is not going to matter.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: So, this is the most like common slash frequent thing I see with um hair loss is stress is like having that traumatic event or having like trauma.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: However, know that you can resolve it and you can release it because over time, the chemical messengers that are released when you're stressed, right?
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: The cortisol and all this pushes your body into what's known as telogen efflavium, which basically means you don't need to remember that, but what this means is that it pushes out a large number of your hair follicles, so literally pushes them out of your head until they fall out.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: So remember that.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: That's why stress is so important, and that's why we do things like we minimize stress um in well-nourished and one-on-one, we release trauma because I can't tell you it doesn't matter if you're eating the cleanest diet or taking all the magical supplements until you do that, it does not matter because your body will still keep attacking its own hair follicles, causing them to fall out.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: So look at it as a sign of like your body telling you that you've been through a lot and you need to like show yourself, well, A, some TLC, you need to minimize stress, um, but you also need to do trauma relief.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: So if that is something that appeals to you, definitely get into Well Nourish or What on What.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: The next one, not eating enough.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: This is another one that I see.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, Alexa is like talking and she's in the next room.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: Guys, that's freaky.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: She's literally two rooms away.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: Weird.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Okay, the next one is not eating enough.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: Like I said, um, not eating enough in general, not getting enough protein, or especially people who newly go plant-based slash vegan, and they're A not eating enough, but they're also not getting the appropriate amino acids that you need to build hair.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: This is also from like really restricting um and under-eating from a long period of time in order to make yourself smaller.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: So whether you're not eating enough slash not eating enough protein, slash being vegan, plant-based, these are all common things that I see for hair loss.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: And once I get people eating more and making sure, especially if they're vegan or plant-based, that they're getting enough protein amino acids, their hair comes back.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: This is the number one thing.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: If you are trying to like eat 1200 calories, 1500 calories, you know, to lose weight and to finally feel good in your body, that is not going to work.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: You actually need to eat more, heal your metabolism, then your hair is gonna come back because your body is not gonna be in that scarce state.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Keep in mind that like not eating enough goes back to safety, right?
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: It goes back to kind of like that stress response, right?
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: Because when we're not eating enough, our body's stressed out because it's like, oh god, Liv is not giving me enough food.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna put my resources to hair growth because I'm stressed out because she's not giving me enough.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: So while also there's stress from you know work, relationships, etc., if you're also not eating enough and you're doing the 1200 calorie, 1500 calorie, you know, even up to 16 or 1700 calorie, depending on how tall you are, this is not gonna be enough food, or maybe even not enough protein, and then you're not gonna have the building blocks in order to make hair.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: So, like I said, if you need help with this and the stress, definitely reach out because it can be hard to break that cycle.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: All right, next up, certain medical conditions.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: So thyroid, um lupus, PCOS, all of these things have been connected to hair loss, especially with PCOS and hormone imbalances.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: Generally, if you have um PMS, this is also a sign of hormone imbalances that we need to fix.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: But the good news is that there's a lot that you can do to fix it.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: We just need to balance your hormones, but just know that like it is a byproduct of certain medical conditions.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: Once you fix those conditions, you end up fixing the hair loss.
- 9:33unknown: Okay.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: The next one, poor gut health.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: And I've been saying this for years.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: All disease begins in the gut, and your hair is no exception.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: The gut microbiome is responsible for absorption of nutrients that are essential for optimal hair health, including collagen, zinc, biotin, but also gut problems like leaky gut, parasites, SIBO, all impact how leaky your gut is, how inflamed it is in the nutrients that you are absorbing.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: If you want nice, shiny, good hair, you need to have good gut health.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: So make sure you look into getting that fixed if you are experiencing symptoms of poor gut health like bloating, brain fog, joint pain, um, not having good bowel movements, so either constipation, diarrhea, you know, etc.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: Make sure you are looking into all of that.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: Okay, next up, medications.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: Many common medications and over-the-counter drugs actually contribute to hair loss.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: So, birth control pill causes hair loss.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: Um, NSAIDs, which are like advil ibuprofen, hair loss, a lot of acne medications, okay, hair loss.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: All of these things can contribute to hair loss.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: So, what you need to do, obviously, don't stop taking it cold turkey, but talking to your doctor, possibly switching medications or coming off of something and healing it naturally so that you don't have to be on medications which are going to cause hair loss.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: Because at the end of the day, you can do all the right things, but if this medication is causing hair loss, it doesn't matter if you're eating all the collagen and all this stuff for it, the medication is going to overpower it.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: Alright, next up is the chemicals and stuff you're using on your hair.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: If you're using, you know, like the panteen and the dub and all of this stuff that is filled with toxic things, those harsh chemicals are going to damage your hair and cause thinning and breakage and cause permanent damage to the hair follicles.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: So looking for non-toxic like sulfate-free, paraben-free scum, hair care, and doing all that is going to be really good, especially if you've been using toxic products for a long time.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: Okay, I also want to dive into vitamin deficiencies and specifically which ones that can cause hair loss.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: So we're looking at B vitamins, specifically vitamin B12, riboflavin, biotin, and pholate.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: These are all really important for healthy hair growth, making sure you're getting enough B vitamins.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Um, and chances are if you're on the birth control pill, you're also not getting enough B vitamins because it depletes your B vitamins.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: So not only is a birth control pill causing your hair to fall out, but the B the birth control pill is also causing a deficiency in B vitamins, which is also making your hair fall out even more.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: So keeping that in mind.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: Another thing to think about is how inflammation causes hair loss.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: So your immune system is designed to protect you from all of these like attacking and foreign invaders, right?
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: But your immune system can get stuck on the on position, which basically causes low-level inflammation.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: So this basically attacks your own tissues, including including your hair follicles, and make them fall out.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: So this is like bad gut health, lack of sleep, inflammatory diet, which is eating things like gluten and sugar, um, toxic burden.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: So that's you know, when your liver is overburdened by you know having to go through the toxic beauty products that you're using, the toxic food, plus pollution and everything else that we're just exposed to.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: There are so many like underlying things that contribute to inflammation, and when you're inflamed, you get hair loss.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: So when you fix the inflammation and you minimize those factors, you can minimize the hair loss.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: So I just wanted to remind you guys that Well Nourished is open for the last time this year, and it is only open until the end of August.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: And this is gonna teach you everything that you need to know so that you can feel delicious in your body.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: You're not gonna need any diet, count any calories or anything.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: Ever again, your relationship with food is fixed.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: PMS, we can say goodbye, and you are just going to finally feel like how you should feel in yourself and in your body.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: Plus, you do the deep healing work, and I can't tell you how many times people have tried to tell me that they have done quote unquote everything, but the reason it never sticks is because you never did the deep healing emotional work and you never had access to someone like me in a safe container.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: So don't forget that you also get a one-on-one session with me when you join, so you do get a full treatment protocol from me.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: And once you do well nourished, you will have those lifetime results.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: You have all the tools and tricks in your tool belt, and it's really about integrating in this live container so that you can continue to feel good past the eight weeks and for the rest of your life.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: So don't forget to check out the link in the description box.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: Definitely send me a DM on Instagram if you have any questions because I don't want you guys to miss out on this wonderful opportunity to finally change your life and to walk into the rest of this year and next year feeling like your best self.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: So, any questions, let me know.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: And yeah, with that, let's get back to the episode.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: So, those are a lot of the physical reasons, and next I want to dive into some of the more emotional reasons, which are things that are normally overlooked.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: But normally, when people come to me, this is what we work on and this is how we fix it.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: And I just want you to imagine again, like going back to what I said in the intro, like how it would feel to never again experience the dread of seeing the number of precious sweat strands like swirling in your hairbrush or coming out tangled in the drain and all of that.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: Like, know that it is fixable.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: If you work through the physical and then the emotional stuff that I'm gonna mention next, like that gets to become your new normal.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: Your hair gets to feel like a hair commercial in those like panteen and garney things that we see on like TV or whatever it is, right?
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: Okay, so diving into the emotional stuff, I will say do not overlook this because this is what I see time and time again.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: Um, people have maybe done like the physical stuff, they've been to other naturopaths or functional medicine doctors, etc.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: You need to do all that and this, okay?
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: You don't get to choose, it's not this or this, it's this and this.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: Okay, so hair loss is connected to your first emotional center, right?
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: Your root.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: And so if you have a lack of security, haha, coming back to stress, this can also come after like a huge shock.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: This can come from a move, this can come like a pandemic, this can come from anything that's been pulled up by the roots, anything that has made you feel like a plant that's been pulled out, anything that's felt traumatic.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: Now, if you haven't listened to my trauma episode of how everyone has trauma, and if you think you have trauma, you're wrong.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: Trauma does not have to be something like being snatched out of your home and whatever.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: It can be like a move that was particularly traumatic, being let go from your job and ending from a relationship.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: All of this is trauma, even if you've had hair loss for years and in college, you know, that adjustment is trauma.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: Don't think trauma has to be something like physical abuse or rape, those although those are trauma can also be things that you may not think of that are quote unquote small that your mind interpreted as trauma.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: And science really shows us like during these moments that cause you to like lose your quote unquote roots, is when you lose your hair.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: So when there is chaos, then you're gonna get those hair loss issues.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: So the first thing I do is I look, you know, um, in our sessions together is for that creation of that incident that initiated it and that effect that it had on your energy field, which oftentimes tells me like the emotional aspect of the hair loss.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: And I also look for like the mindset that causes the problem to persist.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: So your body, your mind is constantly trying to tell you something by creating the physical problem, right?
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: So the emotional disruption in your energetic field and the trauma is still there in your body and it's being pushed out in a physical way, causing hair loss.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna say that again.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: Like your body is trying to tell you something by creating a physical problem.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: It is creating the hair loss based on the trauma you have not released from the not feeling rooted, right?
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: And so the mindset has also needs to be established because there was that initiating incident by suppressing all of this, and with suppressing all of the trauma, it's going to come out in your hair.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: I mean, it can also come out in like your gut, your hormones, and all their physical aspects, but it's important to look at and see that first emotional center of where you feel like you were uprooted so that you can start to look for truth and have more empowering mindset that creates growth in your life.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: So, a sign, you know, also that the first emotional center is disturbed is relating it back to your identity within your family.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: So, this is within like your primary family, so like your parents and your siblings is disturbed.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: So, issues like divorce, um, not having like having issues with your parents that threaten your security, um, not feeling seen, having issues with your siblings that like trigger you not feeling fully safe in your environment.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: When you help to reconnect and express these repressed emotional feelings, you stop your body from reacting against itself and you stop hair loss.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: When you reconnect with these feelings and you express them more freely without having fear, then you finally get to erase that incident that made you not feel rooted.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: So the key with the emotional cause of hair loss is what made me like when I think back to where the hair loss first started, what made me feel uprooted?
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: What caused that?
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: How did I feel?
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: And how can I feel more deeply rooted into my life, right?
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: How can I ground myself more and make that root emotional center feel more safe?
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: You know, is it a job loss, relationship loss?
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: What's going on in my life right now that needs to be more safe?
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: And how can I create that safety in my root so that my physical roots of my hair actually go into my head?
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna repeat that just in case you missed it.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: If you are not feeling rooted in your emotional center, if you're not feeling rooted and safe in your relationship, your job, your living situation, your friendships, your body image, your self-love, that is going to be an overarching cloud on your hair loss if you do not fix that.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: So you need to do the physical, you need to fix like the nutrients and the gut health and the hormones, and you need to do this emotional work to ground you to make you feel safe, also make you feel safe for like weight loss and everything like that, but especially for hair loss, ground so that those follicles go back into your head.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: If you are not grounded, your hair will fall out.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: That is as simple as I can put it, and I really want you guys to realize that when you come to me and like people come to me and they tell me they've done everything, it's often because they have not done the emotional work.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: So definitely know that, like, if you're like, oh Liv, this is me, but I'm nervous but I'm scared.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: No that I am here to tell you that like I have treated hair loss in one-on-one, I've treated it in well-nourished, and every time I've solved it, but oftentimes it comes to doing a combo of both and really going through the emotional roots to reconnect yourself to release the trauma, and it's not until you release the trauma from your physical body that the physical hair won't stop falling out.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: So knowing that this is your sign, if you're experiencing hair loss, that there is something you can do, you can get fuller, thicker head of hair so that it's not stressing you out.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: And also, I want you to beware of getting trapped in the cycle of like you're stressed out and you're not rooted, which is causing your hair to fall out.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: You see how much your hair is falling out, so then you're worried and freaked out, and you're like, oh my god, and you're crying because I've been there and your hair is falling out, so you're crying, you're like, oh god, I'm so stressed out, but my hair is falling out, which is making me upset, which is making me even more stressed out, not rooted, and you guys are stuck in this vicious cycle.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: I am here to break you out, and I'm telling you, we can do this.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: Um, so definitely reach out for one-on-one or um well-nourished.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: I believe the link will be in the description box um and knowing that you can help.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: So start with all of this.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: And if you guys have any requests for pre-free podcast episodes, definitely let me know as well.
