- 0:56SPEAKER_01: Welcome to week seven of the Section 4 football season.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: Today my Hall of Fame broadcast partner, Roger Neal and I will be analyzing four games of the week.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: There are three Friday night games and one Saturday afternoon.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Three of the eight teams are undefeated.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Three of the teams are ranked number one, and one team ranked number six, and one ranked number fourteen.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: You can watch most of the Section 4 football games on YouTube for free by subscribing to a particular school's YouTube channel.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: Remember, check with your school for any last-minute schedule updates.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: Our first game is a Class D showdown of two undefeated teams.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: Dell High comes in with a lot of sixes going on.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: They're 6-0, ranked number six, and riding a six-game win streak.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: They traveled to Hagerty Field Friday evening to take on the also undefeated 7-0 Tioga Tigers, who are ranked number one in New York State, and are on a 20-game win streak.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: Neither team has really been challenged, but both are putting up video game-like numbers.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: This game has the potential to be one people we'll talk about for decades.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: This is a very high probability.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: There's a high probability that these two teams will see each other in a few weeks.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: Roger?
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Yes, I think uh it's going to be hard-pressed to take a look at any of the games.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: And there are some great matchups this weekend, no doubt about it, but hard pressed, at least on paper to start, to find anything better than what this promises.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Two undefeated teams.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: As you mentioned, video game type stats put up by both of these teams, riding on beaten streaks.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: How about for Delhi?
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: They've been able to uh score 293 points, given up just 22, which comes out to less than four points per game.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: They face the high-flying Tyoga Tigers, 5-0 in the division, 7-0 overall, and they have been averaging 51 points a game.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: They put up 360 total, and they've given up just 8.4 in their game so far.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: So stingy defenses, outstanding offenses, a little bit of an edge offensively to Tyoga, a little bit of an edge defensively to Delhi.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: As you mentioned, it's at Tyoga, home field advantage to Tyoga.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: So it should be an outstanding one.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: And we'll see where things lie when the final buzzer sounds at the end of the fourth quarter.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: But it should be a tremendous game.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: And again, we go to Class D to see what is going to be, I'm sure, a classic showdown.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: Our second game is a Class C contest with two and four Newark Valley traveling south to Blue Devil Stadium to take on the six and one Shenango Forks Blue Devils, ranked number one and coming off a huge win against a very strong Waverly team.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Roger, you and I know from broadcasting many games at Blue Devils Stadium how tough it is to play there.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: And Coach Hardenstein and the Cardinals will have a tall task ahead of them Friday evening.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: What do you think, Roger?
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: No question.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: And we have seen it.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: You know, you walk in there, uh, all you see your championship awards up on that press box wall, uh, whether it's sectionals, um, state semifinals, state championships.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: So a dominant home field advantage, certainly to the Forks.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: This should be very interesting because Newark Valley is uh a team that can give anybody fits.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: They've been averaging almost 22 points a game.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: But here's the problem.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: I see it with Newark Valley.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: They've also given up almost 32 points a game.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Now, Shidango Forks, we know over the years a very stingy defense.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: They've been averaging only 13 points a game against.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: Well, they've racked up almost 29 points for one of the keys, certainly the quarterback played great.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: He's Stark, he's been playing very well recently, and we'll see what they can do on their home field for the Blue Devils against Newark Valley in a Class C battle.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Another good one shaping up this weekend.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: Our third game is the Lone Saturday afternoon contest.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: It's a Class A game with six and zero, Maine NWL Spartans ranked number one and on a 15-game win streak, taking a short trip to Wildcat Stadium, which is one of the most beautiful venues in Section Four, and one that Roger and I enjoy broadcasting from.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: And to take uh, they're gonna have to face a very much improved three and two Johnson City Wildcats team who received the New York State honorable mention this week.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: Coach Place is doing some good things there in JC.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: What do you think, Coach Neal?
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: Yes, and uh, I'll tell you what, fans who attend that game, it should be uh a picture postcard view of the valley.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: That is, as you mentioned, a superb place to watch a game.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: And uh the question is gonna be again can anybody slow down Maine and well?
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: So many weapons.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: They've got a very good balanced attack.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Polakare can put the got some outstanding runners off that counter and option play that they run.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Also, they've been racking up a lot of points overall, 35 points a game average, giving up just under 10 points a game.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, the Wildcats, you mentioned they're an improved team over last year.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: They've got some very good pieces in the puzzle, one and two in Division III play.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: Their stats pretty much even.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: They've scored 147, give it up 145.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: And again, the question is if Maine Enwell can get on those runs where they control the clock for five or six minutes on drives, it's gonna be tough for the Wildcats to get their hands on the ball.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: So should be a good one.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Again, my question coming into the game is Maine Enwell.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: So overall balanced, can anybody really slow them down?
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: We'll see.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: The Wildcats at home, it's one of those rivalries where you uh again can throw out all the record books because they've had some classic games over the years.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: Definitely.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: Our fourth and final game is an 80th renewal of an old-fashioned cross river rivalry game.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: Hard to say that cross river rivalry game.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: The four and two Golden Bears, led by second-year head coach Crundan, take a very short bus ride over the river, so short that the bus doesn't even get a chance to warm up to face the five and one UE rank 14th in the state, and they visit them at uh classic Ty Cobb Stadium, where both of these head coaches played their high school football for legendary coach Fran Angeline.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: Both teams are on a four-game win streak.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: UE leads the series 40 to 35, and there have been four ties.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: If Vestal wins, they will be in a tie with UE at the top of class A.
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: Unionicots won two of the last three meetings with the most recent a 28-7 playoff win last season that ended Vestal's season.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: Don't you think that that's still sticking in their craw?
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: This game is a flashback of seasons past when both uh regularly met with so much on the line.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: Roger, take us through this uh historical background a little bit and what you you think they're gonna do Friday night.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: I just think it's great for Section 4 football, certainly for Golden Bear fans, to see them in a pertinent big-time game again.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: Uh, we talked certainly, and fans recall many outstanding games between the two, but UE's had the edge over the last few years.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: Vestel now this year, though, is playing some outstanding football.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: They've won four in a row, and they come in second in class A with UE number one in class A in their division.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: So uh very evenly matched up.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: Now, the best defense, Vestel.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: They've given up just 11 plus points per game.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: UE, the best offense.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: They're averaging almost 38 points a game.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: So the classic excellent defense against excellent offense, and we'll see what that'll bring up.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: UE, of course, uh is flying uh big win over Ithaca last weekend, and Vestel again is playing their best football in several years.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: So it looks like it's gonna be kind of a turn the page back a little bit to the days when they were very evenly matched up, and this should be a classic game coming up this weekend uh for uh Tigers fans at UE.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's it's gonna be from an offensive standpoint.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: Uh Union Endicott has got Cementelli that's the outstanding quarterback and throws to Jackson, who is a prototype NFL looking kind of wide receiver with the skills he displays at this level.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: And then you uh Vestal on the other side has such a good running game with two or three backs that can really pound the ball inside and out so outside.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: So both defenses are gonna be tested in this game.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: But I think you you hit the nail on the head, Roger.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: This has a chance to be a classic game and probably uh a relatively close game, maybe a little bit higher scoring, but nonetheless, I believe it's gonna be close.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: That wraps it up for the games of the week for this weekend.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: Thank you, Roger, and look forward to uh covering the games next weekend.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Sounds good.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Tim.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: Take care.
