- Lucas: Luna, ready for another Norwegian verb today? Luna: Absolutely! I love adding new verbs to my toolbox. What's today's word? Lucas: Today we have 'å stenge' — to close. And you know, if Fexingo has been helping you make real progress with Norwegian, we want to keep this ad-free for you. If you'd like to support that, the link is buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Every bit helps us focus on the language. Luna: Yeah, I love that we don't have ads interrupting our flow. So, 'å stenge' — that's like closing something, right? Lucas: Exactly. For example, 'stenge døren' — close the door. Let's say it together: 'stenge døren'. Luna: Stenge døren. Lucas: Good. Now, 'jeg stenger' — I close. So 'jeg stenger døren' means I close the door. Luna: Jeg stenger døren. Lucas: Perfect. And if you want to ask someone: 'stenger du døren?' — do you close the door? Luna: Stenger du døren? Lucas: Yes. Or with a window: 'stenge vinduet' — close the window. 'Jeg stenger vinduet'. Luna: Jeg stenger vinduet. Lucas: Great. Now, a common phrase: 'butikken stenger' — the store closes. So if you're shopping and it's almost closing time, you might hear that. Luna: Butikken stenger. So 'stenger' here is the present tense form. Lucas: Exactly. The infinitive is 'å stenge', and present tense is 'stenger'. Let's practice a few: 'Butikken stenger klokka fem' — the store closes at five. Luna: Butikken stenger klokka fem. Lucas: Nice. Now imagine you're at home and it's cold. You might say: 'Kan du stenge vinduet?' — Can you close the window? Luna: Kan du stenge vinduet? Lucas: Perfect. And we can use it with 'døren' too: 'Kan du stenge døren?' Luna: Kan du stenge døren? Lucas: Yes. Let's do a quick review. 'Å stenge' — to close. 'Jeg stenger' — I close. 'Stenger du?' — do you close? And some objects: 'døren', 'vinduet'. Luna: Å stenge, jeg stenger, stenger du, døren, vinduet. Got it. Lucas: Let's put it together in a short scene. Imagine you're at a café and the barista says: 'Vi stenger om ti minutter' — We close in ten minutes. Luna: Vi stenger om ti minutter. Okay, that's useful. Lucas: And you could reply: 'Takk, jeg skal gå' — Thanks, I'll go. But that's for another episode. For now, practice 'å stenge'. Luna: I will. Thanks Lucas. This was a nice little verb. Lucas: You're welcome. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time.
