- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey, we are live.
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Thank you to everybody that's tuning in.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: And also a big thank you to those watching on demand and on whatever platform you get it.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Apologies for the podcast.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: I'm switching over the podcast so you can get all the Substack podcasts
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: that you want in one place.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: And then it seems like my traditional podcast.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Distribution site also had technical difficulties,
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: so it's been like the most confusing week to change the podcast,
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: get it into new places.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: As always with the Paywall Podcast,
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: we're talking five questions,
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: but before I get to the five questions,
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: let's go through a few questions that people had for me earlier this week.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Kameda is a heavy underdog versus Sebastian Hernandez Reyes tomorrow.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: I miss this one.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: I think Kameda will upset Hernandez.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: It was one of the best fights you will see.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: I highly recommend... Oh, wait.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: That's one of my notes to myself.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: What am I doing?
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: So...
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: I did not want to lose my nerd card.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: For those that don't remember,
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: Sebastian Hernandez Reyes became a beloved protagonist type figure
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: when he fought Junta Nakatani and some people felt as though he had beaten Nakatani.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Nakatani won a close fight,
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: but he really,
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: really had a lot of success,
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: and it kind of simmered the enthusiasm for the in-away fight
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: because Nakatani looked very mortal.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: In this fight, you got yourself a back-and-forth slugfest.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: It's one of the better fights.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: In all honesty, round seven is circulating on social media.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: I highly recommend you check it out.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: More questions about the podcast this week with Tom Eaton.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Face of boxing feels like a regional U.S. belt.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: You give it to whoever sells the most cookies.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Wait a minute, Lukie.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: I think you broke down Lee Cutler versus Aaron Sutton against Lee Cutler against Sam Egginton.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: See, here's the thing.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: I tried to do multiple things.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: And I think I was a little too tired and I should have called an audible on that one.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Cutler got a third round KO versus Sutton, not Green.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: Green brought up a 154 pounder on 160 notice and two weeks notice
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: and couldn't get him out there within a six round distance.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: The Toronto Blue Jays advertised the tension versus Takuma one ring to try
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: to sign Kazuma Akamoto, which they did.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: I can see Green versus Cutler being a weight class match similar to Kyrie
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: and Conway versus Mark Jeffers, which was a sneaky, really good fight.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: More thoughts on this fight.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: Cutler should beat Green 97-93 or 98-92.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: He's in the gym with CBS and Adam Azim while Louis Green was working as
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: a contractual bodyguard for Donald Trump in private security.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: As a favor to CBS.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Um, I will now go into my questions.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: There's a lot more questions I can go through there, but I want to start with my talking points.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: And if anyone in the chat wants to go fire at me, feel free to do so.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: I will check back occasionally.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: Let's start with the big topic, right?
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Will Anthony Joshua versus Tyson Fury be a good fight?
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: I will say it's not going to be a good fight.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: It's an important fight to a certain extent, but this is like...
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: Boxing can't have nice things.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: And let me get into this rant, right?
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: I did a video yesterday to break down why I think it's going to disappoint.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Not just be a bad fight, but I think it's going to disappoint people.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Both of these guys aren't what they were.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: And there's an Joshua was never what he was meant to be.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: Joshua was an Olympic gold medalist,
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: but by the standard of an Olympic gold medalist,
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: he was not the greatest traditional Olympic gold medalist.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: He wasn't your George Foreman.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: He wasn't.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: He wasn't your traditional dominant gold medalist, but he had done it in his home country.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: Great story.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: And he came with enthusiasm.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: And I think that you can really compare him to Sugar Ray Leonard.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: And the big thing about Joshua was he looked the part
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: and his career was carefully match made except for one strategic wrist against
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: an older Vladimir Klitschko.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: We'd already lost to Tyson Fury.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Other than that, he had...
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: He has trouble transitioning defense into offense and offense into defense.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: He's very robotic,
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: and the best he's ever looked as a fighter is when he fights guys
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: who can't match his physicality, can't match his athleticism.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: He goes forward,
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: he punches hard,
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: and he lands big concussive blows,
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: and they're overwhelmed by his sheer size and strength.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: When he got in with Joe Parker,
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: I will contest,
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: and albeit I was at a Kareem Mayfield media workout,
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: and I remember watching it on someone's phone,
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: but I remember Parker kind of put hesitation in him because he was able,
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: and if you're watching the...
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: ...and he was fighting Joshua's jab hand.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: He was engaging and sometimes parrying over and shooting,
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: and that hand speed issue really caused doubt...
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: In the mind of Joshua, he was like, wait, what's happening?
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: You don't just let me punch.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: And in a fight that I think a lot of people looked at as a clear Joshua win,
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: he had a lot of hesitation.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: And I think that hesitation built into doubt after Andy Ruiz,
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: who what his greatest attribute is,
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: he's able to slip,
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: go underneath shots and his punches from the ground as opposed to over the top.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: And I think Joshua's sheer inexperience and kind of green...
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: He's green in the sport.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: There's things he hadn't gotten the looks of.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: And I think punches from the ground, like a Navarrete, he just was not expecting.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: And it was just a bad matchup.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: Obviously, Ruiz doesn't train hard enough for the second fight.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: Joshua was able to win it by the skin of his teeth.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: Lose to Usyk, all types of stuff.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: But I think there was this hope that Joshua looked the part,
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: he was marketable, and he was going to be the next heavyweight.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: He just didn't have it.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Because you have to say that because he was afforded in this era more opportunities
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: than Every other heavyweight was not afforded the same rebuild process.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Not even Deontay Wilder.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: He was a mega star who got to restart his career.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: He's on the third restart.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: He lost to Ruiz.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: Then there was a rebuild process.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: He lost to Usyk twice.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: He rebuilt again, goes to Dubois, loses to him.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: These are all humiliating losses.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: And now he's rebuilding again.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: But I think that he knows because against Christian Pranga, he gets dropped by, yes, Pranga.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: He's a big guy and a puncher,
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: but this is a very,
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: very limited fighter who's not all that strategic,
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: and he drops Joshua early in the fight,
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: which to me, he's either physically done, mentally done, or both.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: Like, he's just done.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: And then we break down Fury.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: Fury is done as well.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: I think him and Wilder, obviously, he beats Klitschko in one of the most dreadful fights.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: He does the Keith Thurman thing where he doesn't...
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: First fight,
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: it's ruled a draw,
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: then wins the next two fights with Wilder,
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: but those fights really take a lot out of him.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: He also loses two fights to Usyk, and then it's just kind of been utter indifference.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Really rich, has a TV show, big personality, and I think that...
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: People don't want Fury to be as good as he is.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: He's a big guy.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: He's not really quote-unquote fun always to watch, but he believes in his size.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: He believes in his ability.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: He believes in speed, quickness, and he's the anti-Joshua.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: While Joshua's robotic and ugh.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: He's got a body that honestly is very relatable and he focuses on speed because he's a big guy.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: He lets the shots fly,
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: lets them go,
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: and he has a fighting IQ that I don't think Josh will Fury had two wins this year,
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: neither of which were all that good, but he has more of...
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: It's kind of like a traditional fighting, like a traditional skill set to fall upon.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: The only interest for me in this is when Fury fought a novice
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: who he should have just beaten in free.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: The problem is, I think that Joshua is such a historically relevant fight.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: Fury will train for him, and he typically gets up for the big fights.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: For me, I think that the problem is you have two famous guys and the guy
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: that most people are probably going to be rooting for is Anthony Joshua.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: And he's the more diminished fighter.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: He was never better than Fury.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: And now you're more than likely going
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: to watch what I'll call watching your dad get beat up in front of your house by
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: the neighborhood bully.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: It's like Joshua's going to go out there,
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: he's going to say all the right things, but Fury's just inherently better.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: And the only way Joshua has a chance to me is if he doesn't train.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: Yes, Fury has shown an ability to be dropped in fights.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: That can happen.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: But looking at Joshua's recent run, I mean, I don't know what gives you any confidence.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: Christian Pringle may not ever get another high-level world-class fight.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, he'll probably fight a contender,
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: maybe a guy looking to move up the ranks,
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: but this was a regional-level fighter that caught him.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: Yes, he's a puncher, but there was some crude cracks.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: He's getting in there and I get people say styles make fights,
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: but he's getting in there with someone who's going to be throwing a whip like jab.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: Very quick, moving around.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: And Josh was struggling to kind of get around the ring, in my opinion.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: His chin, who knows where it's at.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: And mentally, I'm not sure he really even has that desire he once had.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: What's hard for Joshua is he may have come to terms with that he's not the guy
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: that was marketed, that he's not going to be the best heavyweight of the era.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: I think his true fire came from that he thought he was going
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: to be this generational great heavyweight.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: He's a very relatable,
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: very well-paid,
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: marketable heavyweight,
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: but he won't ever go down as the best heavyweights of the era.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: The best two heavyweights, ironically, were the guys that weren't marketed initially.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: It's Alexander Usyk one, Tyson Fury two.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: The reason why I say I don't think it's going to
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: a good fight is I just think there's a huge skills mismatch.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: And the intrigue is people time and time again tend to fall for
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: the Anthony Joshua trap, which is this time he's going to do it.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: And the one time he did it was against Andy Ruiz.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: Every other time he seems to fail.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: And against Fury, you know, he's going to do a lot of psychological warfare.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: To me, it genuinely feels like a mismatch.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: And I'd actually be happy to be wrong in this one because that means we get
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: an intriguing fight.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: But I really feel like this is going to be a mismatch.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: And this is our big fight of the fall, which isn't great.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: Number two, let's continue on this.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: Is this fight such a big deal about the fight itself?
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Or is the undertone of the promoters and the battle between Dana White
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: and Eddie Hearn really what people are tuning in for?
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: I beg this question.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: I'm starting to think that there's a level of Zufa Boxing versus Matchroom Boxing.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: And this dates back to like the advent of PBC where PBC was doing their events
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: and there There was this feeling that if you were negative to PBC,
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: then the media wouldn't talk to you or they wouldn't talk to the media.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: And there was criticisms.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: And then it felt like PBC didn't want to work with other people or Top Rank didn't want.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: Just felt like we had all these different silos of boxing entities that all wanted
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: to do in-house fights.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: And we've gotten away from that because of, and let me say this.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: The show, well, I'm actually going to get to that in a little bit.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: So we'll finish with that one.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: Let me also check.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: No comments.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: I think the most intriguing thing about Fury Joshua is not the fight itself.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: It's about kind of this political war between
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: a traditional established boxing promoter,
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: Matt Shroom Boxing,
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: Eddie Hearn,
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: and Zufo Boxing, which is headed or the face of the entity is Dana White.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: And I think that Essentially,
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: there's a sentiment that Zufa Boxing is not coming in to share the marketplace,
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: that they want control.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: And I think the feeling that the industry has a lot of people
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: and they wouldn't say this on their show, but look, my show.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: The feeling is Zufa Boxing is going to try to sign the biggest names.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: So whoever the biggest names are, they're going to try to sign the biggest names.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: And once they get enough of those big names, they can say, I think that's the idea.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: So right now is the grabbing up all the best guys in the sport period.
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: And I think Eddie's trying to show that his product is equally as good.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: And I think that the battle dynamic in this is who can throw the major events.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: Because as we look around in the landscape of boxing, there are not that many major events.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: And really, Eddie Hearn is the resistance at this point to Zufa boxing.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: I'll just talk about these numbers.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: I think he's a Midwest promoter, put up a graphic on X.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: And it showed basically like Golden Boy had about 17, 20 shows in 2019.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: Top Rank ran about 30 shows.
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: PBC ran about 30 shows.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: All of those entities right now are basically running less than 10 shows as
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: of right now in 2026.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: In 2023, I looked it up in 2024.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: To my calculations, and I could have done the numbers wrong.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: 2023, Golden Boy ran 17 shows, 2024, 16 shows.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: Matchroom, 33 shows, 2024, 32.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: Top rank between the Japanese cards that they distribute,
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: Eye of the Tiger and their own shows were at about 30.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: And yeah, so I mean...
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: There's no if, ands, or buts around it.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: The sport is hitting a point where there's fewer and fewer fight dates.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: And what does that mean for the fighters?
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: What does that mean for the promoters?
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: I know what it means for a media member, right?
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: It means there's less opportunities to get paid and write about the sport
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: because there's just simply not enough interest.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: What are we doing?
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: What is the point?
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: Why hire someone to comment on a sport that has so few dates?
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: Right now,
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: boxing is more of a rumor sport than it is
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: an episodic week-after-week fight-based sport.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: There's multiple weeks that have happened over the last two years
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: where you could just skip the sport for two weeks and come back
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: and you're completely fine.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: I pinpoint to December 2024.
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: I remember at the time, I was always trying to work a month ahead.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: And I remember January 2025,
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: the first fight was an El Toro promotions fight in Washington State.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: And that was the first fight of the year.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: And it took until the 24th,
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: I want to say, when Diego Pacheco fought Steven Nelson to get a big fight.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: And it was a very slow period of time.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: And at the time I thought, oh man, like this is just crazy.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: You know, it always starts, but...
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: Now that's happening far too often.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: And now when I hear people talk about we had a slow summer,
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: well, you know, January, February, December is typically hot.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: Well, they haven't been hot for really a year and a half.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: I think the problem is there's not enough dates for fighters to get to stay active.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: The economy is tanking like we're in a terrible place.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: Look at mortgage rates.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: Look at the price of gas.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: Look at just the cost of living.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: So that's going to eat into the amount of shows that can be provided,
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: even though typically even when like there's a recession or even say a depression.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: Typically,
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: the entertainment industries are uplifting things that do well,
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: but it feels like we're having a big fallback to reality where if
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: the top fighters don't fight each other, we're not going to have a sport.
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: So I think by the middle of next year, The
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: marketplace is going to change.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: Those purses that used to exist, today's price is not tomorrow's price.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: It's going the wrong direction.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Those million dollar purses are happening or less and less.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: And I think that's a subplot.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: The subplot is where does boxing go?
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: What is the economic structure of boxing in the new world?
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: How does Dana White fit in?
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: How does Eddie Hearn fit in?
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: And then the traditional promoters outside of those guys in the U.S.,
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: top-ranked Golden Boy, etc., where do they go?
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: You know, I salute to my guy, Dimitri Salida.
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: They're doing Win Records Network to keep his fighters active.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: You have to get creative, but Golden Boy is not running many shows.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: Their next show is October 10th.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: And we're at a point where we're like, will they have a December card?
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: Top Rank probably will come back in December, but it's like wins their card.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: It's an era of uncertainty.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: And I was thinking that it was just,
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: me being bitter and old,
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: but then you You look at just a couple of years ago,
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: every week we had a fight to talk about.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: Now we're just talking about news era.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: And it's like the crappiest thing is a few years ago, people opted to talk about this stuff.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: And now when boxing is only that,
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: a lot of these people left because a fight didn't go the way that they liked, right?
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: So it's a frustrating time,
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: but I think that the real interesting dynamic,
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: even though it's not,
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: is Fury and Joshua is, I think, turning into who is more powerful now.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: Battle one, Dana White versus Eddie Hearn.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: I think it's a huge power play between these two people behind the scenes.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: And that is a level of intrigue for the fans.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: I find it quite boring because I think it should be about the fans, the fighters themselves.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: But I think that's what's going on.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: Now let's talk about that undercard.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: There's rumored fights on the undercards.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: Of course, Stevenson versus Manny Pacquiao, Keyshawn Davis versus Richardson Hitchens.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: Some some thoughts, right?
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: Shakur Stevenson, one of my favorite fighters in the world.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: I think he's probably the best fighter in the world right now.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: But if he were to fight Manny Pacquiao,
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: it's just a strange fight because Pacquiao is approaching 50.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: He's coming off last year.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: He fought Mario Barrios to a draw.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: Nothing about Pacquiao's performance to me says, okay,
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: at 50 years old,
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: he's going to handle one of the best, if not the best young fighters out.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: And then, you know, Stevenson's had trouble.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: He's in trouble kind of attracting fans to a certain degree because he's just a technician.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: He's a pro's pro.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: He's a technician's technician.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: And maybe it could get animosity with some fans beating up an old Hall of Fame legend.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: But I feel like not all publicity is good publicity.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: And it could be a very, very weird sentiment.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: Because Stevenson has somewhat crossed over, but this would be his big crossover fight.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: And that would be, I don't think that would be the right introduction.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: That would be like Camacho introducing himself to the American public
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: by beating old Sugar Ray Leonard.
- 21:18SPEAKER_00: It just doesn't feel right.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: It feels unsatisfying.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: So let's see if that fight plays out because I think that might be...
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: That might be a tough,
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: a tough bout to make just in sense of goodwill amongst fight fans
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: because Stevenson is someone who could carry the sport forward
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: who could make those compelling matchups and a fight
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: against Pacquiao I think maybe you try Try to become the bad guy or
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: the villain persona.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: But I just don't think the appeal for that fight and Pacquiao at
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: an older age coming off a draw against a fighter in Barrios
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: that I feel like people thought was one of the weaker champions of that era.
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: I think it just kind of leaves like a heaviness in the air and unsatisfaction.
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: Like people are like, what are we doing?
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: Keyshawn Davis versus Richardson Hitchens, though, that is a different fight.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: I've seen a lot of people that really like Hitchens in this fight.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: My question is twofold.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: Can a jab win the fight alone for Hitchens?
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: Hitchens has an amazing jab, but to me, he's kind of a one-trick pony.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: Sorry, Lenny.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: I don't want to be mean, but Hitchens is a great jabber.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: He's got as good of a jab as anybody,
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: but there's a mental toughness component with him that he's got to improve on.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: And Keyshawn Davis looks like the type of fighter you can't just beat with one punch.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: So he has to show more nuance and dimension.
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: The other thing is...
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: How does Hitchens settle into welterweight?
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: I mean, it seems like Davis, there's like a maturity component to his whole career.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: He's just an immature.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: He's having trouble making weight probably because the discipline and structure
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: while having some money is just too difficult.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: He's not able to kind of hit these professional weights.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: He missed lightweight.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: He missed 140.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: Now he's going up to 47.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: As I always say, weight cuts are always mental.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: So when guys are struggling to cut weight, It's never the weight class.
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: It's because it's like to me, I saw it in the gym all the time.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: A guy would be like 35.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: He'd move to 40.
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: So he's like, ah, now I can eat a little more pasta.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: And then all of a sudden, 40 becomes big.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: It's never like they need to train harder.
- 23:29SPEAKER_00: Very rarely do guys outgrow weight classes and they move up for the right reasons.
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: Typically, the guys that outgrow the weight class absolutely don't.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: Do everything in the gym to stay at that weight class because they're scared
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: of any bit of change.
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: And the guys that eat themselves out of weight classes or lack the discipline
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: to stay at those weight classes consistently move up in weight
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: and consistently miss weight.
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: There is a parallel for me about Keyshawn Davis and Adrian Broner
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: that I can't stop thinking about.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: And Broner did have these weight issues.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: I think that Davis has more ability than Broner did at a point,
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: but Broner was a very, very special fighter.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: This is one of those moments where if Davis is going to be one of those superstars,
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: he's got to kind of look the part because he was on track last Valentine's Day.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: He wins the belt.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: He's the next guy up.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: And then it's just been kind of like failure after failure.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: Just been a really, really ugly ride and he needs to do more.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: Whereas Hitchens is like, he's had his own issues.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: The Oscar Duarte weigh-in thing was just flat out strange and weird.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: Nobody really understands what goes on.
- 24:44SPEAKER_00: So I feel like these guys have questions they've got to answer because a lot
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: of people are questioning what they're in the sport for.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: Because like Keyshawn Davis will say something to like a media guy where it's like,
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: you want to take a good fight?
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: Well, I won't take that fight because I'm a millionaire.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: And it seems like when I watch these clips and it could be that I'm old,
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: those clips always get preserved.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: To be used for when you're down on your luck it's like look
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: at you like right now you're riding high on the hog.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: And then all of a sudden there's some tragedy and then that clip is used in
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: the documentary I always feel like that's very cautionary so.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: What I like more about this fight than a stylistic matchup is these are two fighters
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: that realistically could end up in the Hall of Fame,
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: but they're also two fighters that I think have maturity issues.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: And it's like which fighter can rise to the moment, which fighter can do better in that moment.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: Speaking of which, maturity, let's talk about how Saul Canel Alvarez...
- 25:47SPEAKER_00: His fight, what is going on?
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: There's a war in the Middle East.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: There's no press release that I've seen for the undercard.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: It's September 25th,
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: which basically means we're a week away from my birthday,
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: an unofficial national holiday in boxing.
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: So come on, Lukie, you know, everyone's excited for that.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: But here we go.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: Are you ready for this?
- 26:11SPEAKER_00: I am starting to get the suspicion the fight will not happen in the Middle East,
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: basically given all the troubles we have there since this war started,
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: I believe, in March now.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: So we're just going and gas prices are going crazy.
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: So if it were to move, where does it move to?
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: If it were to happen, who's on the undercard?
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: Matt Brown of Brunch Boxing put out a great report where he said that,
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: not Angelo Leo,
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: it was Bam Rodriguez,
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: Rafael Espinoza,
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: and Jaime Munguia were reported to be on the undercard of this event.
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: Okay, that's good.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: But here's the issue.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: Here's the big issue.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: Would they stay on the card?
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: When is the card?
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: There's open slots for October 31st, the 7th, the 14th, and the 21st.
- 27:07SPEAKER_00: I've seen some people float around the idea of a November 21st card.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: Maybe it stays October 31st.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: The big thing around this is Canelo's fights are typically one of,
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: if not the only moments in America where boxing fans go, oh, Canelo's fighting.
- 27:25SPEAKER_00: I want to see that.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: Boxing shares part of the media landscape with the NFL, the NBA, and all these other sports.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: And it seems very weird to me that one of the notable attractions,
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: one of the SEO drivers, one of the most commercial fans.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: We are unaware nearly a month out from his scheduled fight.
- 27:48SPEAKER_00: What is going on with this fight?
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: We don't know what the undercard is.
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: We don't know if the fight's happening, where the fight is happening.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: It's a strange, strange sentiment.
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: I can't really think...
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: I can't think of a time in boxing where we've ever been in these situations.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: But in terms of the most high-profile fighter out...
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: Returning to the ring after giving up the September 12th date, I believe he was injured, right?
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: He had to move back.
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: And now moving to Halloween, kind of a cool fight date, right?
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: Would have been a midday card for us in the US and you get to watch all the stuff
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: and that would be really neat.
- 28:33SPEAKER_00: What happens?
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: Where is the card?
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: So I think within a week or two,
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: well, I think within a week, we should know the answers to this.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: But it's been one of the stranger.
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: The silence around this card has been one of the strangest.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: It's a card that really
- 28:59SPEAKER_00: defines this era of boxing over.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: Errol Spence just lost.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: Terrence Crawford is retired.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: In a way, gets the biggest win of his career.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: He's pretty close to retiring.
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: He might fight Bam Rodriguez or a couple other guys, and then it's over.
- 29:13SPEAKER_00: But it's really feeling like the guys from 2016 are packing it in.
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: And the guys that might not...
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: Pack it in like say a Keith Thurman are going to be high level opponents
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: to really interesting fighters.
- 29:26SPEAKER_00: Keith Thurman might end up fighting Virgil Ortiz is
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: a rumor that's being floated out there,
- 29:31SPEAKER_00: but it just seems like guys from 2016 that era
- 29:34SPEAKER_00: of boxing are no longer winning high profile fights.
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: Why does that matter?
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: Canelo's essentially the biggest fighter from that era in 2016.
- 29:44SPEAKER_00: So him against Christian Mbili,
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: though Mbili is a talented fighter,
- 29:48SPEAKER_00: in Canelo's prime, you would have expected Canelo to beat Mbili.
- 29:52SPEAKER_00: Mbili is a pressure fighter.
- 29:53SPEAKER_00: Canelo Alvarez has been a mentally retired fighter.
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: Mentally, he has checked out on the sport, but he's fine setting up
- 30:15SPEAKER_00: High-profile events and paydays and et cetera,
- 30:18SPEAKER_00: and being an extravaganza for both the sport of boxing,
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: which I appreciate,
- 30:22SPEAKER_00: helping grow the sport,
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: but I'm not sure he still has that fire to compete at the highest level,
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: and we see that with the David Benavidez fight.
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: Since Dimitri Bivel, there's no mention of the David Benavidez fight.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: There's no enthusiasm around that fight.
- 30:40SPEAKER_00: And then fighting Terrence Crawford, he had physical advantages.
- 30:44SPEAKER_00: He just, you know, he doesn't have the same gears in it.
- 30:48SPEAKER_00: And enthusiasm in the ring that he had during that 2019,
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: 2020, 2021 run, really dating back to 2018.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: I think that was when he kind of kicked into a different gear and he went
- 30:58SPEAKER_00: from Canelo who fights like Floyd Mayweather into Canelo who fights like
- 31:05SPEAKER_00: When he has a tough fight with someone, it seems like he mimics that style.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: The irony is he had a tough fight with Dimitri Bivol, but he couldn't mimic the style.
- 31:13SPEAKER_00: And that kind of led to this,
- 31:16SPEAKER_00: I don't know, kind of a flat, indifferent Canelo, which is where we're at currently.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: I find the Canelo and Billy fight interesting because there's a real chance
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: that Billy beats Canelo and there's a possibility that it's like,
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: okay, the sport has moved on and then we need to see better matchups.
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: We need to see all these guys who are supposed to be at the top facing each other
- 31:39SPEAKER_00: so we can actually have a sport that makes sense because here's the bigger thing.
- 31:47SPEAKER_00: Since HBO left...
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: I wanna say it was 2018.
- 31:51SPEAKER_00: I remember when they left because it was, I was in the Pechanga Casino.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: Devin Haney was fighting Juan Carlos Burgos and I got a text message saying
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: that they were leaving.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: And I thought Danny Jacobs versus,
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: Darvianchenko was going to be the last HBO bout,
- 32:08SPEAKER_00: but it ended up being a Tom Loftner 360 promotions bout with Cecilia Bracus,
- 32:13SPEAKER_00: I believe was the last fight ever on HBO Boxing.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: Since HBO Boxing left, that's 2018.
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: I can only think of three fighters all associated with top rank from the U.S.
- 32:29SPEAKER_00: who are on a star trajectory.
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: Every other fighter turned pro around or before...
- 32:39SPEAKER_00: HBO left the sport, which why I bring this up was that was a different place.
- 32:45SPEAKER_00: There was Showtime and HBO existing.
- 32:48SPEAKER_00: There was more access to boxing.
- 32:51SPEAKER_00: You could have a cable package.
- 32:53SPEAKER_00: You could tune in.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: I think that what we're getting away from is the trust in high quality fights.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: So with what HBO,
- 33:00SPEAKER_00: I think,
- 33:00SPEAKER_00: had branded themselves over decades and decades was this is
- 33:04SPEAKER_00: a certain high quality level fight.
- 33:06SPEAKER_00: What Showtime turned into was, hey, we've got some of the most exciting fighters out.
- 33:11SPEAKER_00: If you want an alternative to HBO, tune into our fights.
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: And they started putting on the PVC fights and it was a really exciting product.
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: The three fighters who have emerged, Keyshawn Davis, Bruce Carrington, and Abdullah Mason.
- 33:28SPEAKER_00: I think there's a chance Rafael Espinoza is in that as well.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: What do we notice there?
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: Those are all top-ranked guys.
- 33:40SPEAKER_00: That is troubling because we need,
- 33:43SPEAKER_00: and I keep talking about this, we need the developmental system to work in boxing.
- 33:48SPEAKER_00: We're getting to a point where we can't just keep trotting out old guys and playing the hits.
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: A lot of guys are going to retire, and then we have to get guys in the position.
- 33:57SPEAKER_00: It feels like middleweight has been in the position the sport of boxing is going
- 34:01SPEAKER_00: to be in in about two years.
- 34:03SPEAKER_00: Middleweight has been there for about four years.
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: Let me explain that thought.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: The middleweight division, since Gennady Golovkin left, Janabek won some belts there.
- 34:16SPEAKER_00: But it's felt like no man's land.
- 34:18SPEAKER_00: And it's felt like a place where even though there are great fighters,
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: the fighters in the division, Adamas,
- 34:24SPEAKER_00: Janabek,
- 34:25SPEAKER_00: and Arsene Dilara are so inactive that many of
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: the contenders do not fight each other because they feel as though,
- 34:32SPEAKER_00: and this is just me from the outside looking in,
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: let me take a lateral step to the side so I can position myself
- 34:38SPEAKER_00: to potentially one day get a fight with a champion rather than make interesting,
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: compelling fights that get the division going and are red hot.
- 34:46SPEAKER_00: And that's an issue.
- 34:49SPEAKER_00: Then.
- 34:49SPEAKER_00: So, right.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: And now we're getting to a point where.
- 34:56SPEAKER_00: These old quote unquote ticket sellers are now falling by the wayside,
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: the old big names that used to come from the HBOs in the last days and network TV.
- 35:05SPEAKER_00: And who are we replacing them with?
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: Well, there are guys that can do it,
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: but we need to make the matchups and the money's probably not going to be the same.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: So.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: Canelo's fight against him Billy is I think very important for the sport of boxing
- 35:19SPEAKER_00: and how it looks next year because if he doesn't have a good performance it starts
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: to beg the question when does this next era start and when does it come into play.
- 35:30SPEAKER_00: We need to know and have clarity around this fight card because it's going
- 35:36SPEAKER_00: to shape what the fight world looks like.
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: And on top of that, Canelo's an interesting guy.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: Now, my final thought before I go through the last of the questions is belts matter.
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: Do belts matter?
- 35:51SPEAKER_00: There's rumors of like, well,
- 35:54SPEAKER_00: let's just say people are speculating that maybe Teofimo might drop the WBA title.
- 36:01SPEAKER_00: To not fight Jack Catterall because there's big money fights out there.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: Jaime Munguia,
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: there's rumors that he wants to fight other opponents than Beck the Bully
- 36:09SPEAKER_00: and he might drop a belt.
- 36:11SPEAKER_00: The sanctioning bodies are in a tough spot, right?
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: Because with UBOs being introduced,
- 36:18SPEAKER_00: every promoter can now function as a sanctioning body,
- 36:21SPEAKER_00: a rankings organization and award titles to fighters from their entity.
- 36:27SPEAKER_00: So what is the purpose of the sanctioning body?
- 36:30SPEAKER_00: And I think that they have to kind of appease fighters
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: and be interesting politicians or create some parity and transparency in making
- 36:41SPEAKER_00: the best fights possible.
- 36:43SPEAKER_00: I love the fight with Teofimo Lopez versus Jack Catterall.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: I think that's a good matchup.
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: I'm not opposed to Teo saying, okay,
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: if I don't like this fight and I want really high profile, big paying fights, cool.
- 36:55SPEAKER_00: Catterall benefits more from a belt than Teofimo Lopez.
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: Teofimo Lopez is a big name and he can make money without a belt.
- 37:05SPEAKER_00: I think the interesting part is we might be getting to a point
- 37:09SPEAKER_00: after Hamza Shiraz set a trend where it used to be shame to give up a belt.
- 37:14SPEAKER_00: I think it might get normalized because you hear fighters saying things like,
- 37:20SPEAKER_00: why would I pay for a belt?
- 37:22SPEAKER_00: Why would I pay this fee?
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: What are they doing?
- 37:25SPEAKER_00: Where does it go?
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: I think it's being normalized now to look at the money
- 37:30SPEAKER_00: and revenue you take home rather than the belt.
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: And I think the belt was a tool for distribution and network television.
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: TVs wanted champions.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: They wanted the best fighters available.
- 37:41SPEAKER_00: Without the need of network television,
- 37:43SPEAKER_00: and especially with kind of these new promoters kind of having in-house deals
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: with networks, at least for the near future,
- 37:53SPEAKER_00: Are the sanctioning bodies in trouble?
- 37:56SPEAKER_00: I'm sure they will stick around in some capacity, but I don't think people...
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: With what do they present to the sport?
- 38:08SPEAKER_00: Why do they matter?
- 38:09SPEAKER_00: Especially if people don't care about the history and legacy of the sport.
- 38:13SPEAKER_00: If it's all about the here and now, which is the social media generation.
- 38:17SPEAKER_00: I want to be rich.
- 38:18SPEAKER_00: I want a gazillion followers.
- 38:21SPEAKER_00: I'm the main character of my story.
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: Look at me.
- 38:23SPEAKER_00: I'm a social media guy.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: I'm sitting here talking to basically a few people that want to listen to my chat.
- 38:29SPEAKER_00: And I think my opinion is super important.
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: Look at that.
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: That's social media in a nutshell.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: And...
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: The history component, the legacy component might not outweigh why do I need this?
- 38:45SPEAKER_00: I've gotten to a certain point where now there's the precedent that's set.
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: Why do I need to fight for this thing?
- 38:51SPEAKER_00: What is it about this thing that matters?
- 38:54SPEAKER_00: What about this belt validates me?
- 38:57SPEAKER_00: If I could go over here and I could be with that promoter and get this thing.
- 39:01SPEAKER_00: The sanctioning bodies have to get their act together because I think
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: that this has been Like they've they've really not helped themselves.
- 39:09SPEAKER_00: They've kind of walked into In an instance where with the introduction of UBOs
- 39:17SPEAKER_00: and potential the lack of financial transparencies,
- 39:20SPEAKER_00: the sanctioning bodies have done everything they've could to give fodder to anyone
- 39:24SPEAKER_00: that says, don't look at what these guys are doing.
- 39:27SPEAKER_00: I don't want to deal with them.
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: And over the next two years, I think it's going to be survival of the fittest.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: I think boxing is just kind of interesting.
- 39:34SPEAKER_00: We used to have a lot of arrogant guys who loved...
- 39:38SPEAKER_00: Just kind of having strong opinions and just assuming that
- 39:42SPEAKER_00: the same old same would go for 20 to 30 years.
- 39:45SPEAKER_00: And the beautiful thing about Zufa Boxing is it came in and shook things up.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: And before Zufa Boxing, it was Jake Paul who shook things up.
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: And now people have to grow and adapt.
- 39:56SPEAKER_00: And boxing has a terrible habit of innovating.
- 39:59SPEAKER_00: It's just the same old same.
- 40:01SPEAKER_00: And then a lot of people get left in the past
- 40:03SPEAKER_00: and they become strong social media personalities that just say stuff.
- 40:07SPEAKER_00: And that's kind of what boxing And I do think that there is a beauty in this new era
- 40:13SPEAKER_00: of things changing.
- 40:15SPEAKER_00: I just don't want the fighters to get screwed in the process.
- 40:18SPEAKER_00: That's my objection.
- 40:19SPEAKER_00: Let me jump over to the questions.
- 40:21SPEAKER_00: Acosta will have a lower output at 105 than 108.
- 40:24SPEAKER_00: Second link...
- 40:29SPEAKER_00: And the post shows Acosta at 105.
- 40:33SPEAKER_00: He goes on the back foot, then opponent punches back.
- 40:35SPEAKER_00: Why is Acosta was selected?
- 40:37SPEAKER_00: He was opponent.
- 40:38SPEAKER_00: Because Matsumama swept every round against Tanaka.
- 40:43SPEAKER_00: Here's some video footage.
- 40:44SPEAKER_00: I don't even...
- 40:47SPEAKER_00: This is when Lukie...
- 40:48SPEAKER_00: This is where I hit my feel spot when I'm doing some...
- 40:54SPEAKER_00: Doing some frigging...
- 40:57SPEAKER_00: 105 film study, so let's see what this is, some old-timey movie filter effect.
- 41:06SPEAKER_00: Video not loading too, love that.
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, I'm already seeing this.
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: This is kind of like opponent city.
- 41:20SPEAKER_00: It's just everything he said is this fighter is just staying on his back foot.
- 41:24SPEAKER_00: And then the curse of the back foot fighter, right, is to put yourself on the ropes.
- 41:30SPEAKER_00: Everybody that's looking for a good opponent that's a back foot fighter,
- 41:35SPEAKER_00: you're going to see them going for the...
- 41:40SPEAKER_00: The guy that is always on his back foot,
- 41:43SPEAKER_00: not sitting down on shots, and then puts himself on the ropes.
- 41:45SPEAKER_00: And his kind of go-to move is the pivot out.
- 41:48SPEAKER_00: Those are kind of like the guys that are high-level stay-busy, especially for good punchers.
- 41:55SPEAKER_00: Hayat, Tasumi, and his brother can each beat Ray forward at 130 right now.
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: That's a strong opinion, but I like strong opinions.
- 42:03SPEAKER_00: There was another lightweight who knocked out the top guy in Japan a couple
- 42:08SPEAKER_00: of weeks ago and another who knocked out Kizuto Teksada at middleweight.
- 42:14SPEAKER_00: These guys would have been, let's see.
- 42:25SPEAKER_00: So the economic decline in Japan,
- 42:28SPEAKER_00: they're saying,
- 42:29SPEAKER_00: combined with Japan's pre-existing boxing culture is resulting in the emergence
- 42:34SPEAKER_00: of high-level prospects in the glamour divisions.
- 42:37SPEAKER_00: I mean, there is something to poverty.
- 42:40SPEAKER_00: I
- 42:46SPEAKER_00: also think there's probably some really good teachers over there,
- 42:49SPEAKER_00: and there also has to be investment in the product.
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: There's tons of poverty all across the world.
- 42:56SPEAKER_00: If someone's not spending money to develop fighters,
- 42:59SPEAKER_00: then you're not going to be talking about hotbed of boxing.
- 43:03SPEAKER_00: Part of...
- 43:05SPEAKER_00: Part of what's making the Japanese boxing scene,
- 43:08SPEAKER_00: I think,
- 43:08SPEAKER_00: so strong right now is you have promoters that are willing to spend money,
- 43:13SPEAKER_00: who are willing to build up fighters,
- 43:14SPEAKER_00: who are willing to throw lower weight guys in for title fights, five fights in.
- 43:19SPEAKER_00: We're willing to make all the matchups and you're getting fighters
- 43:22SPEAKER_00: who are getting experience and they're doing what America isn't doing.
- 43:27SPEAKER_00: They're putting talent first.
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: They're investing in talent rather than investing and say,
- 43:31SPEAKER_00: we want a New York City fighter or we want a Puerto Rican fighter.
- 43:35SPEAKER_00: And then having to meticulously match make a path to get that fighter to a point
- 43:42SPEAKER_00: where they're viewed as a top champion and then you roll the dice when they step up.
- 43:47SPEAKER_00: I think Japan is just starting with talent and becoming.
- 43:49SPEAKER_00: Because of that, you're getting a better product and they're spending money.
- 43:53SPEAKER_00: Tension and Takuma posted including media workouts.
- 43:57SPEAKER_00: I assume that's on social media.
- 43:58SPEAKER_00: That's in response, I believe, to my story this week on The Good Fight.
- 44:02SPEAKER_00: I wrote about it.
- 44:03SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'd expect that.
- 44:04SPEAKER_00: It's just...
- 44:06SPEAKER_00: And what I was kind of getting at in that story was,
- 44:09SPEAKER_00: and for those that didn't read it,
- 44:10SPEAKER_00: I was talking about how with the ESPN deal being gone,
- 44:13SPEAKER_00: is Japanese boxing with Inouye being close,
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: the Monster Inouye,
- 44:17SPEAKER_00: obviously not Takuma Inouye,
- 44:19SPEAKER_00: is boxing getting close to a world where we no longer value Japanese boxing
- 44:26SPEAKER_00: the same?
- 44:26SPEAKER_00: Is it no longer set your alarm clock, wake up morning watching?
- 44:30SPEAKER_00: And I think we might be approaching that, right?
- 44:35SPEAKER_00: That is, that, I mean, I'd hope that they would post like, hey, fight coming up.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: This is how I looked at the media work.
- 44:43SPEAKER_00: It just doesn't seem like there's major outlets just giving me like,
- 44:49SPEAKER_00: okay, look at how fast Takuma is.
- 44:52SPEAKER_00: Look at tension doing something crazy.
- 44:54SPEAKER_00: It just doesn't seem like any and it could just be the algorithm
- 44:57SPEAKER_00: that my feed doesn't get it.
- 44:59SPEAKER_00: But it felt like those things slipped into my consciousness and slipped into
- 45:04SPEAKER_00: the feed on the ESPN one.
- 45:06SPEAKER_00: It feels like the further like I'm excited for Sunday's site
- 45:10SPEAKER_00: and I sometimes forget even today that it's happening.
- 45:13SPEAKER_00: And that's just not great.
- 45:15SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 45:15SPEAKER_00: Because there's like a chance that like.
- 45:17SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 45:19SPEAKER_00: I do something on Saturday and I'm like, whoops, missed the fight.
- 45:21SPEAKER_00: And then I'm pretty sure it'll be on DAZN on a replay.
- 45:24SPEAKER_00: But imagine if it's like, nope, no archive replay.
- 45:27SPEAKER_00: I mean, and then I just read about it.
- 45:29SPEAKER_00: And that's my fear with Japanese boxing is Japanese boxing is getting boxing right.
- 45:33SPEAKER_00: And I hope we don't lose the plot on that.
- 45:36SPEAKER_00: You would think the conflict between Dana White and Eddie Hearn,
- 45:39SPEAKER_00: given the success and hype between Tenshin Nasakawa,
- 45:43SPEAKER_00: Matchroom can invest in hyping up and building...
- 45:49SPEAKER_00: I think that one thing I didn't talk about
- 45:55SPEAKER_00: with their relationship is it seems like there's an antagonistic relationship there
- 46:00SPEAKER_00: where Tom Aspinall, I believe, is...
- 46:01SPEAKER_00: Is a UFC fighter who Eddie Hearn signed to some managerial deal.
- 46:06SPEAKER_00: Dana White's on Connor Ben,
- 46:08SPEAKER_00: a fighter that Eddie Hearn had carefully match made and built into a star.
- 46:12SPEAKER_00: Those signings feel antagonistic to one another.
- 46:16SPEAKER_00: Just to kind of spite the other.
- 46:18SPEAKER_00: That would be a real story.
- 46:20SPEAKER_00: The zone taking over the UFC by poaching UFC fighters to become boxing.
- 46:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, I think we're getting to a level of pettiness like that.
- 46:28SPEAKER_00: I think we're getting to it.
- 46:29SPEAKER_00: But the problem is.
- 46:31SPEAKER_00: Here's the problem.
- 46:32SPEAKER_00: Though I could see a world like that, those fights aren't going to be good.
- 46:36SPEAKER_00: And then that's the issue I'm having is we need good fights.
- 46:42SPEAKER_00: What are we really doing rather than what are Americans doing?
- 46:45SPEAKER_00: And then this is someone that doesn't enjoy women's boxing.
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: So I'm going to have to.
- 46:48SPEAKER_00: You know, we'll read your question and then I'll go into it.
- 46:51SPEAKER_00: Women's boxing, really.
- 46:52SPEAKER_00: Drop women's boxing, which nobody really watches and certainly nobody spends money on.
- 46:57SPEAKER_00: Start a former UFC fighter boxing UBO.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: If anyone wants to say Katie Taylor sold out croaked points.
- 47:03SPEAKER_00: Hark just explained to me why all the funding went
- 47:06SPEAKER_00: to Dave Allen versus Thomas Carty Cohen main event.
- 47:09SPEAKER_00: Well, I think the reason why the undercard wasn't stacked is kind
- 47:12SPEAKER_00: of like why Canelo undercards recently haven't been stacked.
- 47:15SPEAKER_00: When you have someone who makes so much money, they suck the air out of the room.
- 47:19SPEAKER_00: I would push back on this comment and say women's boxing has probably been one of
- 47:22SPEAKER_00: the more delightful revelations of this decade because the fights just get made.
- 47:26SPEAKER_00: So I could get it that maybe some people...
- 47:30SPEAKER_00: I don't really get it that some people are like, man, I don't like watching women's boxing.
- 47:35SPEAKER_00: I guess there's...
- 47:35SPEAKER_00: I think there's also...
- 47:38SPEAKER_00: How do I say this?
- 47:40SPEAKER_00: I went to a boxing gym 15 years ago.
- 47:44SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 47:45SPEAKER_00: And I was around a lot of women's boxers and it was normalized for me.
- 47:50SPEAKER_00: So for me, I've never entered a.
- 47:53SPEAKER_00: So for me, I don't really see this perspective of, oh, it's women.
- 48:08SPEAKER_00: I just see it as a good fight.
- 48:10SPEAKER_00: I support my friends, whatever.
- 48:12SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure I would share that opinion either.
- 48:14SPEAKER_00: It's kind of a weird opinion because, I mean,
- 48:17SPEAKER_00: the thing about women's boxing that's endearing is you're getting the best fights.
- 48:21SPEAKER_00: Ella Skotney is trying her best to go for legacy.
- 48:24SPEAKER_00: Gabriel Fendora is a great fighter.
- 48:26SPEAKER_00: You've had tons of great fighters.
- 48:29SPEAKER_00: And then MVP has just been a godsend to women's boxing.
- 48:33SPEAKER_00: And you look at that November 8th card with Leaf North Turhan against Alicia Bumgarner.
- 48:37SPEAKER_00: That's one of the best fight cards remaining.
- 48:39SPEAKER_00: It's a better card so far or better.
- 48:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think it's better card just top to bottom that I see than Joshua versus Tyson Fury.
- 48:50SPEAKER_00: I think...
- 48:52SPEAKER_00: There's many different things.
- 48:53SPEAKER_00: I have a story coming out, I believe, next week about if I was the boxing czar.
- 48:58SPEAKER_00: And one thing I presented in that idea is an emeritus league where fighters with
- 49:05SPEAKER_00: a certain qualification over the age of 35 could fight in that.
- 49:09SPEAKER_00: Maybe there's a way you could get a UFC champion or an MMA champion in there.
- 49:16SPEAKER_00: I don't think the answer to this question is basically like women's boxing no one watches.
- 49:21SPEAKER_00: I think women's boxing is really moving the needle and creating compelling things.
- 49:26SPEAKER_00: I think there's a subsection of dudes that just don't like watching women fight.
- 49:31SPEAKER_00: And I think that's a deeper thing to there's a subsection of dudes
- 49:34SPEAKER_00: that probably don't really want to hear things from women or there's
- 49:39SPEAKER_00: a deeper women's issue with that person.
- 49:41SPEAKER_00: There's like an anger towards women, probably push back if you disagree.
- 49:47SPEAKER_00: And I think that the sport of boxing just needs to make better matchups
- 49:52SPEAKER_00: and punishing women's boxing,
- 49:53SPEAKER_00: which has traditionally given us the best matchups lately.
- 49:57SPEAKER_00: I don't think that's the answer.
- 50:00SPEAKER_00: Here is why world titles continue to matter.
- 50:03SPEAKER_00: I'm clicking blindly a YouTube video.
- 50:07SPEAKER_00: This is Tsutsumi versus Inoue.
- 50:12SPEAKER_00: And this is an absolute banger of a fight.
- 50:15SPEAKER_00: But see, this is another thing that goes back to my point.
- 50:21SPEAKER_00: What is the starting point for this video?
- 50:23SPEAKER_00: Top Rank Boxing one year ago.
- 50:26SPEAKER_00: And it's like, it's just a simple highlight package, high quality video.
- 50:31SPEAKER_00: And you could just watch Tasumi beat in a way.
- 50:35SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 50:37SPEAKER_00: Next video.
- 50:39SPEAKER_00: Let's see what the next one is.
- 50:45SPEAKER_00: Huge upset.
- 50:46SPEAKER_00: Hobson can say so.
- 50:48SPEAKER_00: Defeats Oshaki Foster.
- 50:49SPEAKER_00: To be fair, that was one of the worst recent decisions I can remember.
- 50:52SPEAKER_00: But I get what you're saying.
- 50:53SPEAKER_00: And this is the pushback is you need sanctioning bodies or you need title fights.
- 50:58SPEAKER_00: And then Williams paid a Lamont Roach.
- 51:00SPEAKER_00: You need sanctioning bodies so there's some level of parity there.
- 51:05SPEAKER_00: And guys get opportunities.
- 51:06SPEAKER_00: So it's not just freak show fights.
- 51:08SPEAKER_00: But they also have to kind of like be like, what are we doing here?
- 51:13SPEAKER_00: What are we doing?
- 51:15SPEAKER_00: Let's go to the Lewis Richardson film study.
- 51:19SPEAKER_00: We're going long on this.
- 51:20SPEAKER_00: So let me, I don't think there's any comments, but let me watch this.
- 51:24SPEAKER_00: Lewis Richardson, Ben Whitaker.
- 51:26SPEAKER_00: We're at the Hargley Boxing Cup Live Finals.
- 51:30SPEAKER_00: This is like 12 years ago.
- 51:34SPEAKER_00: Oh, yes.
- 51:35SPEAKER_00: So just what I wanted.
- 51:37SPEAKER_00: I have to do it in another.
- 51:40SPEAKER_00: These browsers just always seem like they need new stuff.
- 51:44SPEAKER_00: So now I have to transfer over to a different browser to watch the fight.
- 51:52SPEAKER_00: Richardson, I believe, was a medalist in 2024, Southpaw.
- 51:57SPEAKER_00: Let's see, Whitaker.
- 51:59SPEAKER_00: Whitaker, kind of like big foot faint guy, always trying to land the straight right hand.
- 52:05SPEAKER_00: Richards is a what you see, what you get.
- 52:08SPEAKER_00: He's a blue collar craftsman.
- 52:10SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 52:12SPEAKER_00: The big thing I'm seeing early on is just the coordination and athleticism
- 52:16SPEAKER_00: and just God-given abilities.
- 52:19SPEAKER_00: Whitaker just seems like he has different speed and attributes that Richardson has,
- 52:25SPEAKER_00: and Richardson's adjustment is...
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: Basically get close, hold, and then try to punch as often as possible when in there.
- 52:32SPEAKER_00: But it just looks like two guys that have two different gears.
- 52:35SPEAKER_00: And Richardson's trying his best to compete,
- 52:37SPEAKER_00: but he just doesn't really have a way to compete with Whitaker.
- 52:41SPEAKER_00: He's throwing wild punches outside a range,
- 52:44SPEAKER_00: hoping a looping shot will land because the hand speed of Whitaker is just very,
- 52:48SPEAKER_00: very troubling for him.
- 52:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 52:56SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 52:58SPEAKER_00: See what this next Louis Richardson.
- 53:06SPEAKER_00: The next video is.
- 53:08SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 53:09SPEAKER_00: My guy, Alexander Kazosnik,
- 53:12SPEAKER_00: the Ukrainian that's going to like get knocked out eventually as a pro.
- 53:16SPEAKER_00: He's just like,
- 53:17SPEAKER_00: he's basically Sarai Boachuk,
- 53:18SPEAKER_00: but with an Olympic gold medal, he just comes forward, no jab, no distance.
- 53:22SPEAKER_00: So Richardson fighting him.
- 53:23SPEAKER_00: I mean,
- 53:26SPEAKER_00: I remember he lost this,
- 53:27SPEAKER_00: but this is just Richardson is,
- 53:30SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's as amateur of a fighter as you can get from Britain.
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: I mean, he has all the traits of a Uzbekistan fighter,
- 53:39SPEAKER_00: but without like the fancy movement of the feet.
- 53:43SPEAKER_00: He is not sitting down in his shots.
- 53:44SPEAKER_00: He's just all in the back foot and he's just throwing arm punches,
- 53:47SPEAKER_00: hoping to land shots that are scored as blows.
- 53:51SPEAKER_00: Not a great performance there.
- 53:53SPEAKER_00: Push back if you don't like my thoughts, push back.
- 53:58SPEAKER_00: Okay, we're going Richardson deep dive here.
- 54:00SPEAKER_00: We're doing it live.
- 54:02SPEAKER_00: Let me know if you enjoy this.
- 54:04SPEAKER_00: Okay, Sam Hickey of Scotland, Commonwealth Games, four years ago.
- 54:09SPEAKER_00: I wonder if I watched this.
- 54:11SPEAKER_00: I've watched so much bad amateur boxing that I feel like I forget it.
- 54:15SPEAKER_00: And now my stream has gone to like basically 1996 terrestrial television,
- 54:23SPEAKER_00: but I'm still watching it.
- 54:24SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 54:27SPEAKER_00: Now this is where Richardson looks elite.
- 54:30SPEAKER_00: Hickey is pressing him, but he just doesn't have...
- 54:34SPEAKER_00: So this is showing what Richardson does have to me,
- 54:36SPEAKER_00: is when guys don't have an athletic advantage,
- 54:39SPEAKER_00: he has the ability as a southpaw to...
- 54:42SPEAKER_00: To fight at distance, to dictate the range.
- 54:45SPEAKER_00: To me, he has elements of Luke Campbell,
- 54:47SPEAKER_00: probably a lazy comparison because Campbell also was a southpaw,
- 54:51SPEAKER_00: really good amateur.
- 54:52SPEAKER_00: But I think Campbell was like a more polished fighter heading into the pros.
- 54:57SPEAKER_00: He took an interopportune loss very early in his career,
- 55:00SPEAKER_00: which I could definitely see happening with Lewis Richardson.
- 55:03SPEAKER_00: But to me, he's a guy who's going to need to find his distance.
- 55:06SPEAKER_00: He has this awful habit where he's going to get caught,
- 55:08SPEAKER_00: where he just kind of does like the dog in water swimming on the inside,
- 55:13SPEAKER_00: where he just throws like wide punches for no rhyme or reason.
- 55:16SPEAKER_00: And it just makes no sense.
- 55:18SPEAKER_00: It's not a good habit.
- 55:18SPEAKER_00: And he gets caught.
- 55:20SPEAKER_00: He gets caught too.
- 55:21SPEAKER_00: So Let's see.
- 55:22SPEAKER_00: We got more tape to look at.
- 55:24SPEAKER_00: So two more Richardson fights.
- 55:27SPEAKER_00: We're going through.
- 55:29SPEAKER_00: We're going through.
- 55:30SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 55:34SPEAKER_00: Man.
- 55:35SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 55:36SPEAKER_00: Keon Davis.
- 55:37SPEAKER_00: Oh, man.
- 55:38SPEAKER_00: The Juice Man.
- 55:40SPEAKER_00: Lewis Richardson versus the Juice Man.
- 55:44SPEAKER_00: That Juice man's going to have trouble in this fight.
- 55:47SPEAKER_00: Keon Davis is caught between styles.
- 55:49SPEAKER_00: He's got a bit of Kelvin where he waits and tries to smother,
- 55:53SPEAKER_00: and he has a little bit of doing what Keishon does,
- 55:55SPEAKER_00: but he doesn't seem to have the physical ability and the idea for distance
- 55:59SPEAKER_00: and range like Keishon.
- 56:00SPEAKER_00: What I'm seeing from Keon is...
- 56:02SPEAKER_00: He has the IQ to see what Richardson's doing,
- 56:05SPEAKER_00: but he's not able to punch with him or move his feet with him.
- 56:08SPEAKER_00: So he's able to block shots, but he's not able to get back.
- 56:11SPEAKER_00: And then Richardson in this fight,
- 56:13SPEAKER_00: because Keon's a little robotic and predictable,
- 56:17SPEAKER_00: You're seeing Richardson is able to punch with Davis,
- 56:21SPEAKER_00: unlike the other fighters at a different level, because he's comfortable.
- 56:25SPEAKER_00: And he's like, okay, this is... And part of that, too, is Davis is not changing speeds.
- 56:31SPEAKER_00: He's really loading up on a right hand.
- 56:32SPEAKER_00: He's like, oh, I'm Anthony Joshua.
- 56:36SPEAKER_00: I'm Anthony Joshua.
- 56:37SPEAKER_00: Anthony Joshua, right hand.
- 56:39SPEAKER_00: And it's just like, the thing is, Richardson...
- 56:43SPEAKER_00: And this could be Joshua versus Fury.
- 56:45SPEAKER_00: Like this could be the film study for it because it's like he's just,
- 56:48SPEAKER_00: all he's doing is taking him for a walk.
- 56:50SPEAKER_00: I'm watching in the second round.
- 56:51SPEAKER_00: He's taking him for a walk and now he's cutting angles on him.
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: He's turning and Keon's trying.
- 56:57SPEAKER_00: And now he's trying to like be a little dirty.
- 56:59SPEAKER_00: He's trying to put his chin under him,
- 57:01SPEAKER_00: rough him up, get him emotional because maybe that'll change the course.
- 57:04SPEAKER_00: The referee's like, dude, what are you doing, bro?
- 57:06SPEAKER_00: Don't do that.
- 57:07SPEAKER_00: And now I'm curious to see Richardson's temperament from that.
- 57:11SPEAKER_00: Staying at distance.
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: I think he's going to go to the body after that.
- 57:14SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 57:15SPEAKER_00: So now Davis got a little dirty.
- 57:17SPEAKER_00: He's trying to get in there.
- 57:18SPEAKER_00: Now he's leading again with the head,
- 57:19SPEAKER_00: trying to do like kind of the Lamont Peterson approach,
- 57:22SPEAKER_00: which Keyshawn asked some of that.
- 57:26SPEAKER_00: Now he's making it a dirty fight.
- 57:27SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 57:28SPEAKER_00: I'm all captivated in this.
- 57:30SPEAKER_00: Let's see what round three does.
- 57:32SPEAKER_00: Richardson comes out.
- 57:33SPEAKER_00: I think the other thing too, he has a good little probing jab.
- 57:38SPEAKER_00: Where he'll initiate on the glove and then it'll pop to your face.
- 57:41SPEAKER_00: So sometimes he'll look like he's parrying or touching your glove.
- 57:44SPEAKER_00: Sometimes he'll just shoot it to your eye level and sometimes he'll step with it
- 57:48SPEAKER_00: and try to connect.
- 57:49SPEAKER_00: And when he connects, I think it opens up the left hand too.
- 57:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, this is probably the best he looked to me 2024, which, you know.
- 58:01SPEAKER_00: Also probably the lowest level fighter or the fighter that had the lowest familiarity with him.
- 58:06SPEAKER_00: And Deon was probably like pretty excited to fight internationally,
- 58:10SPEAKER_00: but it was also probably a hard one.
- 58:12SPEAKER_00: Now let's go to his pro debut.
- 58:15SPEAKER_00: Olympic medal shines in pro debut.
- 58:18SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 58:20SPEAKER_00: So it's Frank Warren's Queen Berry promotion.
- 58:22SPEAKER_00: Let's check this out.
- 58:23SPEAKER_00: And then we got a Kazakh fighter for our final one.
- 58:26SPEAKER_00: Let me know if you enjoy me doing my real-time thing.
- 58:31SPEAKER_00: My thing.
- 58:32SPEAKER_00: I mean, he fights the same as a pro.
- 58:34SPEAKER_00: I think the big difference I see is he's trying to be...
- 58:36SPEAKER_00: This is a guy who's less talented, so he's walking him down.
- 58:39SPEAKER_00: This is a guy who has no abs.
- 58:42SPEAKER_00: Let's check the habits.
- 58:43SPEAKER_00: His range is a little messed up.
- 58:45SPEAKER_00: He kind of closes distance too quick without a jab.
- 58:48SPEAKER_00: He's either like a little,
- 58:49SPEAKER_00: one thing I noticed, I'll say this right now, I'm at 515 on the debut.
- 58:54SPEAKER_00: He's either too close or he's too far.
- 58:57SPEAKER_00: As a pro in this fight a year ago, he didn't really fully know his distance.
- 59:02SPEAKER_00: And it's like, he doesn't quite have his range in a pro fight.
- 59:05SPEAKER_00: Now this guy's physically just not on his level.
- 59:09SPEAKER_00: He's going rounds with him.
- 59:13SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's a good fighter.
- 59:14SPEAKER_00: It's just the thing with him is amateur boxing is now more different than pro boxing
- 59:21SPEAKER_00: than it ever has been.
- 59:23SPEAKER_00: And Richardson might be an example of that where you have someone like Moses Atuma
- 59:27SPEAKER_00: where,
- 59:27SPEAKER_00: in all honesty,
- 59:28SPEAKER_00: he's got a little bit of the amateur thing, but that's in terms of the gas tank.
- 59:33SPEAKER_00: Richardson has traits of being more of an amateur boxer
- 59:38SPEAKER_00: where he's just volume scoring blows and he's trying to adapt to a pro style,
- 59:42SPEAKER_00: but it looks like it's going to be a slow build.
- 59:46SPEAKER_00: Okay, final one, and then we're out, y'all.
- 59:49SPEAKER_00: Oh, no, I'm not done.
- 59:51SPEAKER_00: I'm not done.
- 59:52SPEAKER_00: We're going to do Kane Lewis versus Alexis de la... Oh, no.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's see what this fight is.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_00: Kane Lewis is fighting Alexis, that prize guy.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_00: Hope that I can figure out who the fighters are.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_00: It's always bad when my thoughts.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_00: Kane Lewis is in the red corner.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_00: Gotta go back and watch and see which corner is which.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_00: I gotta just Google him.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_00: I can't tell.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_00: This is always bad, right?
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_00: When like you're watching a fight on film study and you can't tell who
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_00: the A-side fighter and who the B-side fighter is.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_00: That's typically my gut feeling from watching this is you're about
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_00: to see Alexis beat Kane Lewis because I can't discern he's...
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_00: The talent level.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_00: So he's coming forward and he's getting hit.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_00: That's basically it.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_00: He doesn't move his head very well.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_00: He loads up on power shots.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_00: He throws a right hand really hard.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_00: There's not too much of a jab.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_00: It doesn't seem like he believes in his jab.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_00: It seems like the jab is just window dressing to throw big hard punches.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_00: So that's never, that's never great.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_00: We don't like that.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_00: Let's see if it gets better.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_00: So Kane Lewis versus Alexander Morales.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_00: This is a Triller TV card.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_00: Remember Triller TV.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_00: So now he's in this fight.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_00: This is a fight from seven months ago.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_00: Jabbing a little bit.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_00: Better.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_00: On the outside, it almost feels like for this fight, his team said, I want you to box.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_00: I want you to stay on the outside and get familiarity.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_00: This fight against Alexander Morales,
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_00: to me, screams of a fight where they're like, get some rounds, bro.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_00: Now, the one thing I would like to see Cain Lewis do is he's always circling.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_00: I feel like he's always going to his right as an orthodox fighter.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_00: It would be nice if you're in a developmental fight to go both directions just
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_00: to get used to it.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_00: Let's see if he does.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it just seems like he always wants to go to his right.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_00: So like,
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_00: if you were to game plan for a guy like this,
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_00: this is me watching film study just having a conversation with y'all
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_00: the first thing I would look at is how do you cut off going to the right
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_00: because he's going to be extremely uncomfortable if you make him Go
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_00: the other direction.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_00: Now he's starting to go the other direction,
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_00: but it's like he starts going and then like he immediately he's going between
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_00: the two directions right now in the fourth round, two minutes and 35 seconds.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_00: So that tells me he's looking for a shot because he doesn't traditionally go that direction.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_00: And now when he's like back to moving and working on boxing, he's going one direction.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_00: So one thing I'm seeing really early is Kane Lewis only likes to go one way and
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_00: that that's he likes to circle towards his jab hand.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's see.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_00: A highlight package.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_00: I remember this.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_00: Alexis de la Cerda absolutely sleeps a fighter I had never heard of.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_00: I think it was Irvin Fuller III.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_00: He slept him.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_00: And there's a chance that could happen.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_00: If you get in a slugfest with this guy, you're going to get hurt.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_00: Let's check out other fights.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I did not know much about Alexis before this.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_00: This is him fighting on an El Toro promotions card.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_00: I probably watched this to be honest.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, this is that card I told you guys about.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_00: January 10, 2025.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_00: I totally did watch this card because this was the first card of 2025.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_00: I remember this card.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_00: I remember a lot about that evening.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_00: I remember a lot about that evening.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_00: Um, he's gotten a lot better.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_00: The big thing I see with him in this fight is everything is with power.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_00: His jab is very tense and it comes one at a time and it's not super fluid.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_00: So it's like he's,
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_00: he's sitting there and he's really trying to like,
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_00: it feels like a hometown fight where he's trying to get the best knockout
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_00: of his life.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_00: See if he looks better in, um, in this fight.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_00: I remember not paying attention to that fight.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_00: That's what I remember.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_00: And here is a ringside viewpoint of his fights.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_00: Let me check this out.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_00: I mean, in this fight, he's kind of fighting off the back foot against Emmanuel Ojeda.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_00: And I think the reason he's fighting off the back foot against Ojeda is he's trying
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_00: to walk him into something.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_00: I'm looking and seeing, I think he's looking for a right uppercut or a left hook.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_00: He's constantly putting himself back on the Emmanuel is just kind
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_00: of pressing this October 25th, 2025.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's showing good dimension, right?
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_00: He fought a guy where he had to press the action.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_00: He fought a guy in this fight where he has to go backwards.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_00: And then in Zufa, he gets the highlight reel knockout.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_00: I think he's a He's a friend of Ryo Jose Valenzuela.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_00: He's sharpshooting here.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_00: I'm kind of curious to see what I'm gonna go full screen.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_00: Curious when guys go backwards and they're kind of in control of the fight
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_00: where it feels like they can dictate the fight.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_00: I've known that right hand a few times, the overhand right.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_00: Typically,
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_00: I think when guys show the right hand,
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_00: for some reason, I'm seeing a right uppercut and I'm curious if that's what it is.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_00: The left hook,
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_00: he's definitely looking for because he threw the right hand and he kind of He did
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_00: the Sal Nano Rodriguez,
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_00: where he throws a right hand, but he's really sitting on the left hook.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_00: Maybe he's doing that, but am I just seeing the wrong thing?
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_00: Or maybe he's not seeing the punch,
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_00: but to me,
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_00: it's like Emmanuel Ojeda is He's coming forward so much and his chin is kind of down
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_00: towards the surface because he's a pressure fighter.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_00: There's something from the ground will probably come through that guard
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_00: or make him probably hesitate.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_00: He's also willingly putting himself on the ropes.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_00: So let's see.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_00: Egic rhythm.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's just.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_00: He's slowing the fight down.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_00: What I like about this performance from Alexis is he's fighting a pressure fighter
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_00: and he's controlling the fight on the back foot and he's turning each exchange
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_00: into focused punching battles.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_00: Where the pressure fighter is now slowing his amount of punches
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_00: because he's getting countered and even though he's not having
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_00: to press forward he's not sitting with his back on the ropes but he's setting traps
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_00: and actually pushing that fighter back because he's making it into You've got
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_00: to be strategic about when you punch.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_00: So he's showing a lot of craft and skill.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_00: He's a very promising fighter in that regard, and he could be a hidden gem.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_00: Now let's talk about this fighter that I believe is no longer fighting this weekend.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_00: We'll see.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_00: Let me, I'll write down his name.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_00: His name is Kosabek Abaduliev, and you know I love my Uzbex fighters.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_00: It's probably going to just be a lot of excessive moving and not sitting on punches.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_00: It's going to be my guess.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_00: Super loopy.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_00: B punches.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_00: I mean, this is not a pro style.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_00: I'm watching him against Marco Verde.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_00: He is just smothering.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_00: He's going all out.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_00: He's going to be gassed out probably by the end
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_00: The second round and the third round is going to be just him moving,
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_00: but it's just, he's running at him.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_00: He's running at him and he's doing that jumping stuff.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_00: There's some intention to cause damage,
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_00: but these are mostly glancing blows and it's just awkward, awkward, more awkward.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_00: Let's see if I actually know what I'm talking about.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_00: So round three.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_00: He is not gassed out.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_00: The thing that is good about him is he's willing to punch in exchange with people.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_00: And it seems like he's causing a lot of discomfort with Marco Verde.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_00: Marco Verde, to me,
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_00: is the most amateur Mexican prospect we've seen in some time where he's not as much
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_00: of a brute as he's more of an amateur kind of speedster.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_00: And in this round,
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_00: Verde is looking like the one who's getting tired,
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_00: whereas Obstoduliev is still dancing and moving and turning and such.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_00: So that's pretty good because Verde is a very good fighter.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_00: It's a bad assumption by me.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_00: Okay, one other video.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_00: I'm not going to watch the baller tube video because I just don't trust something
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_00: that says baller tube.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_00: Sorry, just what it is.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_00: So, I think this is the same fighter, but with a name pronounced differently.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_00: He's fighting Alexis Torres.
- 1:09:25SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's got really,
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_00: really good range,
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_00: and he's doing the thing that I like,
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_00: although he's excessively moving his feet,
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_00: where his feet are in and out of range,
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_00: and he's keeping full extension on his punches.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_00: He's looking to punch to the body.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_00: He looks like he's got discomfort fighting someone smaller than him.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_00: Just the problem with the Uzbek fighters is they're professional amateurs.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_00: They stay amateur so long, they don't... Prime example here.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_00: I'm watching the start of the fourth round in this fight with Torres.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_00: Go to 255 round four.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_00: Look at where his feet are.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_00: If any, he's doing the splits.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_00: So I get that he's being fast and elusive and jumping around.
- 1:10:15SPEAKER_00: A really good fighter catches him.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_00: That could be a knockdown.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_00: There's just little subtle things that just won't work.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_00: And in amateur boxing, it's like you're just racing marathon.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_00: Yes, no headgear.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_00: But
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_00: I don't think it's going to work.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_00: So, and does he get a stoppage or does he just go six rounds?
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_00: I'm going to say he goes six rounds.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_00: So he goes six rounds, it looks like.
