Latest / Reality TV Cringe / 131: Rest In Peace, Garrison Brown
Transcript
- 0:09Hello, and welcome to Reality TV Cringe. I am Delia here with my
- 0:14daughter in law Beatrice. Hi. This is our actual scheduled time to meet,
- 0:20because we were going to do a podcast on Sister Wives season four,
- 0:25episode six, and also Seeking Sister Wives, which just launched last night,
- 0:32and we certainly were prepared to do that. However, we got the news
- 0:38about an hour before we were scheduled to meet that Garrison Brown had passed away
- 0:45from a self inflicted injury. Injury. I don't know he committed suicide.
- 0:53And to say that I am shocked is an understatement. Devastated as a parent,
- 1:06heartbroken, heartbroken because I really love Garrison, like what he was allowed
- 1:15to show us of who he was, especially as he became an adult and
- 1:21bought his own home and tried to make some space for his mom, take
- 1:26care of his family and Gabe, and like I just I think he was
- 1:30turning into such a wonderful person. Yeah, and I am really so unhappy
- 1:38to hear this news. I'm devastated. I mean, I just like I
- 1:42can't imagine what this family is going through right now, what Janelle's going through,
- 1:47what Cody's going through. Like I know we talk mad shit on this
- 1:49podcast because we cover this show and we talk about these characters and all this
- 1:56stuff, but we have to remember that these are real people, and when
- 2:00stuff like this happens, it's like just a wake up call that none of
- 2:05us know what's actually going on in these people's minds and their emotional well being
- 2:09in their real lives, like what we see on TV could be total bullshit,
- 2:15And so it's just really fucking devastating. And like, no matter how
- 2:17much we talk shit about Cody, I feel bad for him because the last
- 2:22we heard was that he had a horrible relationship with the boys, and I
- 2:25just hope that it got rectified before this happened. I pray for Cody and
- 2:30Janelle and the rest of the wives and the family, because I would not
- 2:36wish this on my worst enemy. Like, I don't care if we hate
- 2:38Cody Brown. Nobody deserves this, No parent deserves this. My mom texted
- 2:43me this today because she was the one that told me and that I was
- 2:45texting you like, oh my god, I can't believe this happened. And
- 2:49my Mom's like, this is every parent's worst nightmare, Like every parent's worst
- 2:53nightmare. So I'm just really fucking sad about it. I am too,
- 3:00and because of that, we are not going to be recording our regular podcast.
- 3:05We will be coming back later this week to do VPR and probably seeking
- 3:09Sister Wives. I think we might be holding off a couple of weeks for
- 3:15Sister Wives content because I just need to get my head on right about this
- 3:23what's happening. And in the interim, of course, I think it's really
- 3:27important for us to send good thoughts and prayers and good energy to this family.
- 3:35I was actually up on social media when I heard this from you,
- 3:38because I wasn't on like I didn't know anything about this, and I went
- 3:43to Instagram, which I don't always do, and there were a lot of
- 3:46different people reporting on it, and then there were just commenters saying things that
- 3:53I think are just not appropriate. No matter how much you dislike people on
- 3:57television and your favorite shows, like you, it's just I really feel like
- 4:01we need to be more sensitive and thoughtful, like these are actually real people,
- 4:06and I feel like we've been trying to kind of have this conversation.
- 4:10For example, when we talk about Scandal all and VPR and the actual mental
- 4:15health toll that it took on several of the characters in that show. Of
- 4:20we've talked about the kids, you know, not just in this show,
- 4:26but the kids, the Dugger kids, and we've talked about John and Kate
- 4:29plus Aid and those kids, And there's a conversation I think that really needs
- 4:33to be had. In fact, there's consequences I think actually that need to
- 4:38happen for production companies and TLC that maybe in the future people will start to
- 4:46discuss. It's not for us, a couple of raccoons to have a sophisticated
- 4:50conversation about that. But at the same time, I do believe that you
- 4:54and I were trying to have that conversation. Yeah, as much as we're
- 4:57taking the piss and we're a comedy podcast, like we often advocated for the
- 5:01kids and the women and like what's going on here though, and why are
- 5:04we showing this on television? Like we need to be calling some of that
- 5:09stuff out because there are real people on the other side of that camera,
- 5:14right, But yeah, now it's not the time for that conversation. We
- 5:20just wanted to maybe create a space for all of our listeners and viewers,
- 5:26like if you want to drop a comment and you know, just leave your
- 5:30your thoughts and your good energy and maybe just a wish for this family.
- 5:34You can do so, or if you're feeling this, because I know a
- 5:39lot of people have lost someone in this way, Yeah, you know,
- 5:43if you want to share that. I mean, we just want to open
- 5:46up the space for you and for the love and just for the support of
- 5:53all of us in this moment. But ultimately we're just here to say rest
- 5:57in peace. Garrison. You were a good boy. You were a fine
- 6:01young man, a good brother, a good brother, a good protector.
- 6:06Yeah, you did your very best that you could do in the situation that
- 6:12you were in. And I'm really proud of you and all of the other
- 6:15kids as well. And I just pray for you, truly do. I
- 6:18pray for you. And I pray for Gabe too, who found him.
- 6:24Sorry, I didn't mean to cut you, no, if that's okay,
- 6:25I'm just feeling a lot. I'm just like, that's okay. I absolutely
- 6:29pray, Like I really think we should be praying for Gabe. Yeah,
- 6:32because he's such an empathic, sweet young man. I just I really can't
- 6:40imagine, and I think it's gross, like on social media, how many
- 6:45people are quick to just jump on this train to like talk about these kids
- 6:51as if they knew them, just to get likes and clout because everybody knows.
- 6:55The Sister Wives universe is blowing up right now, like and everybody's freaking
- 6:59out about this news, understandably so, but I feel like we all just
- 7:03need to take a moment to remember our humanity and remember, like we keep
- 7:08saying, these are real people, like these are real lives that are affected
- 7:11by this. We're feeling it emotionally and we don't even know these people.
- 7:15We just watched them on TV and we're we cried about this before even recording
- 7:20this, and I just I don't know. Let's just remember our humanity and
- 7:26be kind on the internet, and we don't need to be talking shit.
- 7:29We don't need to be making any comments about this family. We don't need
- 7:32to be talking about the familiar relationships or any of this other bullshit, like
- 7:36let them mourn, let them deal with it in peace and imprivate, because
- 7:42grief is hard and this is absolutely fucking devastating. So we just felt like
- 7:48the need to say something because we cover this show and we talk about it,
- 7:53and we've been talking about it for two years and we've been involved in
- 7:56this for a long time. But that's why we need a break. Yeah,
- 8:00we need to just not talk about it. Take a breath, Take
- 8:03a breath, and take a break. We love each and every one of
- 8:07you so very much. Thank you for sticking with us, for listening and
- 8:11for watching. We will definitely be back later and we'll get into all the
- 8:16shows because we love those shows. You know. That's it's good vibes.
- 8:20We're just trying to have fun, so we'll be back to do that,
- 8:22but for right now, we felt this was the most appropriate thing to do.
- 8:24Never forget that we've got nothing but love for you, and until next
- 8:30time, pease, Oh bye bye, guys.
