- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, I have two segments here, two windows, as
- 0:03Speaker 1: we like to say, to take phone calls. This one,
- 0:07Speaker 1: and coming up at 345. 877-99 on Fox. Your thoughts
- 0:11Speaker 1: from a tremendous football weekend, both on Saturday and Sunday.
- 0:16Speaker 2: The NFL was ridiculous yesterday.
- 0:19Speaker 1: But we have about 12 minutes here to take some
- 0:21Speaker 1: phone calls.
- 0:22Speaker 3: 877-99 on Fox.
- 0:22Speaker 2: That is 877-99 on Fox.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Have a fun show for you. No Taylor, no Mikey A,
- 0:30Speaker 1: just me and you. I have crawled through a river
- 0:33Speaker 1: of podcasts, God bless football, college football with Stugatz and Baer,
- 0:39Speaker 1: and of course, Stugatz and Company, the show we do
- 0:41Speaker 1: before the show. But we do have Frank Caliendo coming
- 0:44Speaker 1: up in about 20 minutes.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Looking forward to that.
- 0:47Speaker 1: We'll talk about the Madden movie that he's not in,
- 0:50Speaker 1: and we'll promote his two shows coming up here, frankonstage.com,
- 0:55Speaker 1: right down here where I am. at West Palm Beach.
- 0:59Speaker 1: So 877-99 on Fox, 4 o'clock hour. We have the
- 1:01Speaker 1: weekend observations coming up, and we have the head coach
- 1:06Speaker 1: of the University of Oregon, Dan Lanning, is going to
- 1:09Speaker 1: join us in the second hour. So a lot to
- 1:13Speaker 1: do here on the show, a lot of fun to
- 1:15Speaker 1: be had. It was interesting over the weekend here, and again,
- 1:19Speaker 1: Frank Caliendo in about 15 minutes. It was interesting over
- 1:23Speaker 1: the weekend to see USC and Oregon play to see
- 1:27Speaker 1: that hit on their quarterback and to see Dylan Rayola,
- 1:31Speaker 1: of all people, who I had no idea was still
- 1:34Speaker 1: playing college football, was a guy that we kind of mocked.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Not kind of mocked. We did mock for trying to
- 1:40Speaker 1: be Patrick Mahomes. The reaction to that hit was amazing.
- 1:45Speaker 1: And the way he played was unbelievable. You know, coaches
- 1:49Speaker 1: say to players all the time, when I call your number,
- 1:53Speaker 1: you have to be ready. And for the life of me,
- 1:55Speaker 1: I cannot believe that Rayola was ready. I just, of
- 2:00Speaker 1: all the people, I can't believe that he was ready.
- 2:03Speaker 1: The NFL was fantastic yesterday. This is interesting, and I
- 2:07Speaker 1: cannot recall a single example of what we are witnessing
- 2:13Speaker 1: in the NFL. Drake May was a quarterback that we
- 2:19Speaker 1: watched play in the Super Bowl not too long ago.
- 2:23Speaker 2: It's like seven or eight months ago.
- 2:26Speaker 1: And it looks to me like Drake May, again, he
- 2:31Speaker 1: is seven or eight months removed from taking the Patriots
- 2:34Speaker 1: to the Super Bowl. They were a game away from
- 2:38Speaker 1: winning it all. And if you watch their game against
- 2:41Speaker 1: Jacksonville yesterday, and I asked you, hey, that quarterback playing
- 2:47Speaker 1: for the Patriots, do you think he's ever played in
- 2:49Speaker 1: a Super Bowl?
- 2:51Speaker 2: You would have laughed at me and said, hell no.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Drake May, it.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Appears, and I'd be interested to hear from Dan Beyer
- 2:59Speaker 1: on this, who I can't see for some reason, but
- 3:02Speaker 1: I can speak to. Dan, it appears to me that
- 3:07Speaker 1: Drake May forgot how to play the game of football.
- 3:10Speaker 2: He is lacking confidence.
- 3:12Speaker 1: He is not the same person we saw play against.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Your Seahawks in the Super Bowl. He was like a
- 3:19Speaker 2: clown out there. It was a clown show. It was ridiculous.
- 3:22Speaker 2: And I can't think of a guy.
- 3:24Speaker 1: who has gone from where he has been, which is
- 3:26Speaker 1: playing for a Super Bowl, to a guy who looks
- 3:29Speaker 1: like he forgot to play the sport that he was
- 3:31Speaker 1: drafted to play.
- 3:32Speaker 2: It was odd to see, wasn't it?
- 3:34Speaker 4: It was so bad. And to your point, Stu, I
- 3:36Speaker 4: think you could put playoffs. Like, this guy took a
- 3:39Speaker 4: team to the playoffs. would be a stretch for how
- 3:41Speaker 4: bad it worked. Travis Hunter hadn't had an interception his
- 3:44Speaker 4: entire NFL career until Drake May threw one right to him.
- 3:48Speaker 5: And again, for whatever.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Reason, Drake May loves to do this around the end
- 3:52Speaker 4: zone because he did it when they were in field
- 3:54Speaker 4: goal range against the Seahawks. He threw it directly to
- 3:57Speaker 4: Travis Hunter yesterday. Yeah, I think Rabel's even just kind
- 4:01Speaker 4: of like... All right, dude, what the heck? Because he's
- 4:04Speaker 4: even searching for answers.
- 4:05Speaker 5: He was awful.
- 4:06Speaker 2: And you can't blame it all on A.J.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Brown's absence either, because because even though he's a wide receiver,
- 4:12Speaker 4: number one, they didn't have A.J. Brown last year and
- 4:15Speaker 4: he wasn't doing this last year. And you can't say
- 4:17Speaker 4: that all the losses, defendings. No, this is all on
- 4:19Speaker 4: his shoulders. And it's been more regression than progression.
- 4:23Speaker 2: It's it's odd to see. It really is.
- 4:25Speaker 1: You know, I don't know how many turnovers he had
- 4:27Speaker 1: exactly yesterday, but.
- 4:29Speaker 2: He should have had eight more. That's how bad it was.
- 4:33Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Against the Jacksonville Jaguars. What were your takeaways yesterday, Dan?
- 4:36Speaker 1: Do you have a quarterback controversy in Seattle?
- 4:39Speaker 5: Well, I'll tell you what, aside from the awful pick.
- 4:42Speaker 4: And by the way, that is that is why the
- 4:44Speaker 4: Seahawks won the Super Bowl last year is because Sam
- 4:46Speaker 4: Darnold didn't turn the football over for as great as
- 4:49Speaker 4: their defense had been. He didn't turn the football over.
- 4:53Speaker 4: And he was great yesterday. Sands the pick six that
- 4:57Speaker 4: ends up ultimately costing them the victory. And it was
- 5:00Speaker 4: an awful pick six. Rashid was wide open, but I'm
- 5:03Speaker 4: not putting it all on Darnold. You know what struck
- 5:06Speaker 4: me the most is that people hate Sean Payton so
- 5:09Speaker 4: much that they'll actually cheer for the Rams. And side
- 5:12Speaker 4: with them with calls like we've always talked about this
- 5:15Speaker 4: offseason since Miles Garrett was traded and Aaron Donald came
- 5:19Speaker 4: back and how the Rams are the super team. It
- 5:22Speaker 4: would you would think everybody would cheer against them and,
- 5:25Speaker 4: you know, relish their victory. bad games and bad calls
- 5:29Speaker 4: that go against them. But everybody last night was like, yeah,
- 5:31Speaker 4: Rams got screwed. Rams totally bad pass interference call. People
- 5:35Speaker 4: don't like Sean Payton that much that they'd rather cheer
- 5:37Speaker 4: for the Rams than Sean Payton on Sunday night football.
- 5:40Speaker 2: That's how bad Sean Payton is. You're right.
- 5:43Speaker 1: They will cheer for McVay only if it comes at
- 5:46Speaker 1: the expense.
- 5:48Speaker 5: We all hated the Rams. Nobody likes the Rams.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Yet last night we're.
- 5:52Speaker 5: Like, injustice in the NFL. This needs to stop.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Yes, here's what's funny about the NFL and us not
- 5:58Speaker 1: knowing what we're watching every Sunday and why previewing stuff
- 6:01Speaker 1: is absolutely ridiculous.
- 6:03Speaker 2: The Raiders are 3-0. The Rams are 1-2. The Browns
- 6:07Speaker 2: are 2-1.
- 6:08Speaker 1: The team that Miles Garrett left, the Cleveland Browns, because
- 6:12Speaker 1: he thought I could never win a Super Bowl there,
- 6:14Speaker 1: they're 2-1. The team he went to to win a
- 6:17Speaker 1: Super Bowl is 1-2, and Miles Garrett is out for
- 6:22Speaker 1: the next four or five weeks. We have no idea
- 6:24Speaker 1: what we're watching. How do you feel about Browns fans?
- 6:27Speaker 1: This is interesting because I want to ask the audience.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Browns fans rooting towards the end of that game for
- 6:34Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson. Fans only care about their feel good, their
- 6:38Speaker 1: two and one. Deshaun Watson was a big part. of
- 6:41Speaker 1: the reason why they got to 2-1 yesterday at home.
- 6:44Speaker 1: How'd you feel about that, Dan? Because I said headed
- 6:47Speaker 1: into that game, this is a game for Deshaun Watson.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Either he will get the entire Cleveland Brown fan base
- 6:54Speaker 1: to rally behind him, or he'll never play quarterback in
- 6:57Speaker 1: the NFL again.
- 6:58Speaker 2: And it looks like.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson's going to be the starter for the remainder
- 7:02Speaker 1: of the season for the Cleveland Browns.
- 7:03Speaker 4: He threw 144 yards and they're going crazy like that.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Like that's what they want.
- 7:08Speaker 5: Yeah, they won.
- 7:08Speaker 4: And that's like I thought Munkin was kind of a
- 7:11Speaker 4: sacrificial lamb. I thought that me'd maybe be there one
- 7:13Speaker 4: year and then they'll have the number one pick or
- 7:16Speaker 4: have a have a high pick and have another pick
- 7:18Speaker 4: with the Rams. And then they'd bring a new coach
- 7:20Speaker 4: in and. start fresh and get rid of Deshaun Watson
- 7:23Speaker 4: and get rid of Shador Sanders and move on from that.
- 7:26Speaker 4: But Munkin's kind of been a folk hero. I don't
- 7:28Speaker 4: know if it was from responding to Mike Tomlin the
- 7:30Speaker 4: way that he did on the Browns are going to
- 7:32Speaker 4: Brown sort of deal, but even like he gave a
- 7:34Speaker 4: speech yesterday after they were just in speaking with the media.
- 7:38Speaker 4: And I think like Cleveland loves Todd Munkin now it's yeah,
- 7:42Speaker 4: it's a complete reversal of what I thought it would be.
- 7:46Speaker 2: It is interesting.
- 7:47Speaker 1: I'm trying to put myself in, I'm trying to make
- 7:50Speaker 1: myself a Cleveland Brown fan. It's bad enough being a
- 7:54Speaker 1: Jet fan, Dan. But I am trying to think, because
- 7:58Speaker 1: they are starving for winning. They are starving for any
- 8:01Speaker 1: sort of feel-good as it relates to their football team.
- 8:04Speaker 1: If I could find myself in any scenario rooting for
- 8:08Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson, a guy who has so many off-the-field issues,
- 8:13Speaker 1: I guess what I'm asking here is, do you put
- 8:15Speaker 1: your own feel-good ahead of everything, because.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I know. Well, I.
- 8:20Speaker 5: No, I know. I can't not think about it, though. Like,
- 8:24Speaker 5: that's the thing. Right, I know. Because even on... Like,
- 8:26Speaker 5: I just... I can't not do it.
- 8:31Speaker 1: There is no scenario in which you could find yourself,
- 8:35Speaker 1: you think, rooting.
- 8:36Speaker 2: for deshaun watson.
- 8:37Speaker 4: Is that what you're saying yeah exactly i'd love to
- 8:39Speaker 4: root for the for the people of cleveland i'd love
- 8:42Speaker 4: to root for todd munkin and everybody else quinshaw junkins
- 8:46Speaker 4: and and all of the uh the browns absolutely but
- 8:50Speaker 4: just can't do it mike singletary once said can't do
- 8:53Speaker 4: it there.
- 8:54Speaker 5: Thanks mike.
- 8:56Speaker 1: So if you're cheering for Deshaun Watson and someone says, hey,
- 9:00Speaker 1: why are you cheering for that guy?
- 9:01Speaker 2: What do you say? No, I'm just cheering for the Browns, right?
- 9:04Speaker 5: That's it.
- 9:06Speaker 4: Even that, oh gosh, it's difficult. That fan base has
- 9:10Speaker 4: been through, I mean, but it's not like they were
- 9:14Speaker 4: on Deshaun Watson's side with all of this. I think
- 9:16Speaker 4: they're even being forced to cheer for him.
- 9:19Speaker 5: I think a.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Majority of them wanted Shador Sanders. They're being forced because
- 9:22Speaker 1: he's the starter right now. They don't want to cheer
- 9:24Speaker 1: for him. They'd rather cheer for Shador Sanders, but I'm
- 9:27Speaker 1: not certain they're two and one with Shador Sanders. Watson
- 9:30Speaker 1: has played decent the last two weeks. He has played,
- 9:33Speaker 1: I think, better than what you would have seen from
- 9:36Speaker 1: Shador Sanders.
- 9:37Speaker 2: So let's take some calls here.
- 9:38Speaker 7: 877-99 on Fox.
- 9:38Speaker 2: That is 877-99 on Fox.
- 9:38Speaker 1: And again, Frank Caliendo going to join us. in about
- 9:46Speaker 1: 10 minutes here. Let's go out to Nathan, who's in
- 9:48Speaker 1: North Carolina today.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Nathan, go ahead. You are on Fox Sports Radio.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I want to check in and see if Izzy is.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Going to take Josh Allen over Patrick Mahomes yet. Izzy
- 10:00Speaker 2: is not here. I will ask him. I'm not, well, man.
- 10:07Speaker 1: It's so tricky with Josh Allen. That's a game the
- 10:09Speaker 1: Bills probably should have lost. I'm tired of the Chargers,
- 10:11Speaker 1: by the way. Justin Herbert enough. I'm tired of hearing
- 10:14Speaker 1: how good he is. It is tricky with Josh Allen
- 10:17Speaker 1: because I am on record as saying If Josh Allen
- 10:19Speaker 1: goes on to never win a Super Bowl, I will
- 10:22Speaker 1: still be willing to say that he is one of
- 10:24Speaker 1: the all-time great quarterbacks. We've never seen anything like him
- 10:27Speaker 1: at that position, and I'm not certain we'll ever see
- 10:30Speaker 1: something at that position like.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Him ever again. Is he Patrick Mahomes in terms of accomplishments, hardware, rings,
- 10:37Speaker 2: all that? No.
- 10:39Speaker 1: But Josh Allen is one of the great quarterbacks we
- 10:41Speaker 1: have ever seen, Patrick Mahomes.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Is starting to look like Patrick Mahomes again. He really is.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Let's go out to Kevin in Minnesota. Kevin, go ahead.
- 10:49Speaker 2: You're on Fox Sports Radio.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Hey, this goes out to Nolan Teasley for the 1%
- 10:55Speaker 3: chance that he has Fox Sports Radio, Stu Gutz and
- 10:57Speaker 3: company on for background noise in his office. Nolan, I
- 11:02Speaker 3: implore you, I beg of you. Tony Dungy, no, we
- 11:07Speaker 3: go with Dennis Green. Years later, we have Tomlin in
- 11:10Speaker 3: the building as our defensive court. No, no, let's go
- 11:12Speaker 3: with Brad children. And we're going to go through this
- 11:15Speaker 3: one more time. I know Kevin O'Connell just got extended,
- 11:18Speaker 3: but it was before you started as our GM here.
- 11:22Speaker 3: And now we got blind Flores. off the Belichick tree.
- 11:26Speaker 3: And we're going to know now and now we're going
- 11:28Speaker 3: to stick with the brainchild, the quarterback whisperer, Kevin O'Connell,
- 11:32Speaker 3: like Nolan, Nolan, if you're listening, please, like I implore you,
- 11:36Speaker 3: we can be.
- 11:37Speaker 7: Awful at quarterback, awful at offense. The offense can't be clicking.
- 11:42Speaker 7: We can do all of that with Brian floors as
- 11:44Speaker 7: our head coach. Like we can botch quarterback decisions and, and,
- 11:49Speaker 7: And who should be the extended into the season or
- 11:52Speaker 7: next season and who shouldn't be, we can make the
- 11:55Speaker 7: wrong decisions with Brian floors at the home. Like Brian's
- 11:58Speaker 7: doing more with less on the defense while Kevin's.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Got one of the best receivers in football. And we,
- 12:05Speaker 3: it's like, we can't figure out the offense. This is
- 12:08Speaker 3: like two years, three years running now, like Nolan, please.
- 12:12Speaker 3: I implore you.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Okay. You're three. No, man.
- 12:19Speaker 4: And later this week, Mikey is going to tell us
- 12:21Speaker 4: that the Vikings are the number one overall seed to
- 12:23Speaker 4: the NFC.
- 12:24Speaker 5: So just prepare for that.
- 12:25Speaker 1: They are three, you know, with Kyler Murray and Carson Wentz. Like,
- 12:32Speaker 1: I think you're fine at the head coaching spot. We'll
- 12:35Speaker 1: take a quick time out here. Frank Caliendo is going
- 12:38Speaker 1: to join us coming up next. We'll talk Madden movie
- 12:40Speaker 1: with him. We will talk about his shows coming up
- 12:42Speaker 1: and he will get you ready in a way like
- 12:46Speaker 1: you've never heard. for the baseball postseason, which is starting tomorrow.
- 12:51Speaker 1: But we all seem to forget why. Because the NFL.
- 12:53Speaker 6: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Gatz and
- 12:56Speaker 6: Company live weekdays at 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 p.m. Pacific
- 13:01Speaker 6: on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Our thanks to Frank Caliendo. Love that man.
- 13:10Speaker 1: If you work in logistics, you know nothing moves without you.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Companies need skilled people, and they need them right now.
- 13:16Speaker 1: And Express Employment Professionals can help you find contract or
- 13:20Speaker 1: full-time work that fits at no cost to you.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Visit ExpressPros.com, get support, get options, and get to work.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Weekend observations coming up here in just a few minutes. Also,
- 13:32Speaker 1: Dan Lanning, the head coach at the University of Oregon,
- 13:36Speaker 1: going to join us.
- 13:37Speaker 2: He was a hot mess.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Over the weekend and had every right to be one. Dan,
- 13:41Speaker 1: I want to ask you a question real quick. 877-99
- 13:43Speaker 1: on Fox. That is 877-99 on Fox. Who had the
- 13:48Speaker 1: more irrational response to their team winning?
- 13:52Speaker 2: Was it Kirk Ferentz of.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Iowa who cried as he walked off the field after
- 13:56Speaker 1: defeating Michigan? Or was it Lamar Jackson running around like
- 14:00Speaker 1: he had won a Super Bowl? Granted, it was exciting
- 14:03Speaker 1: and it was a ridiculous way. for the Ravens to
- 14:06Speaker 1: win and the Cowboys to lose. But Lamar Jackson acting.
- 14:10Speaker 1: like he had won a Super Bowl after winning a
- 14:13Speaker 1: game in Brazil in week three.
- 14:15Speaker 4: It was crazy. I actually felt that he was more happy. Well,
- 14:19Speaker 4: I shouldn't say that. That he was also just as
- 14:22Speaker 4: happy for Tyler Loop because the Ravens didn't make the
- 14:25Speaker 4: playoffs on the last kick last year for what he
- 14:27Speaker 4: missed in Pittsburgh. So I think he and all the
- 14:30Speaker 4: Ravens kind of felt that way towards Loop. So I'm
- 14:33Speaker 4: giving the award to Kirk Ferentz, and this is the
- 14:35Speaker 4: reason why. In the interview that he does– Why.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Are we applauding this?
- 14:44Speaker 5: Like the amazing victory.
- 14:46Speaker 4: I was questioning Iowa for the entire final five minutes
- 14:50Speaker 4: of kicking a field goal and all the decisions.
- 14:52Speaker 5: And what do you know?
- 14:53Speaker 4: At the end, he comes through and he speaks to
- 14:56Speaker 4: Jenny Dell and like how amazing this win was in
- 14:59Speaker 4: this environment, in the stadium. And Ferentz references the 1981
- 15:05Speaker 4: game between Iowa and Michigan where Iowa didn't score a touchdown.
- 15:10Speaker 4: Like that's, that's the most Kirk Ferentz thing ever. They
- 15:13Speaker 4: kicked three field goals. He even mentioned it. Do it
- 15:16Speaker 4: kick three field goals with a true freshman kicker. I mean,
- 15:19Speaker 4: this is great and all, but it didn't match up
- 15:20Speaker 4: to 81 like that. So, so Ferentz going back, 40
- 15:25Speaker 4: some odd years, 45 years to reference what was actually
- 15:28Speaker 4: a bigger game than just what happened. And all of
- 15:31Speaker 4: Iowa was losing their crap is some of the most
- 15:33Speaker 4: irrational thing and celebrating a game that they didn't score
- 15:36Speaker 4: a touchdown.
- 15:37Speaker 2: They didn't score a touchdown in 81. That's how he
- 15:40Speaker 2: likes it, though.
- 15:40Speaker 1: He would rather win a game not scoring a touchdown
- 15:42Speaker 1: than win a game scoring multiple touchdowns.
- 15:44Speaker 4: I'm surprised he didn't say we kicked three field goals
- 15:46Speaker 4: and punted 12 times in the game.
- 15:47Speaker 5: It was great. It was amazing. Nothing beats 81.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Wait, in 1981, was he even the coach?
- 15:53Speaker 7: No.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Was he even on the staff? No, it was Aiden Fry.
- 15:56Speaker 4: Offensive lineman. Yeah, he was a part of the team. Oh,
- 15:59Speaker 4: offensive line coach. Okay, there it was. Iowa Sam, of course,
- 16:02Speaker 4: has the information. All line coach in 81.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll get to Iowa Sam in a second here
- 16:06Speaker 1: because I know he's excited about Iowa. I was also
- 16:09Speaker 1: crying as he walked off the field because Iowa might
- 16:11Speaker 1: be in the playoff. But are you saying that he
- 16:14Speaker 1: was proud of a game in which they kicked three
- 16:17Speaker 1: field goals? He was on the offensive line and the
- 16:19Speaker 1: offensive line was so bad they couldn't score a touchdown.
- 16:23Speaker 5: That was better than what transpired on Saturday. Like slow down, Jenny.
- 16:27Speaker 4: I know this is an amazing win for Iowa, but
- 16:30Speaker 4: this didn't compare to what happened in 81.
- 16:32Speaker 5: That's how I felt.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Yes.
- 16:33Speaker 8: He was a very, very young offensive line coach in 1981.
- 16:38Speaker 5: When he first came to Iowa. We all were very young.
- 16:41Speaker 5: You weren't even born, Sam.
- 16:42Speaker 6: I wasn't.
- 16:43Speaker 8: Another five years before I'd come around. But I certainly
- 16:45Speaker 8: remember that one. Three field goals or whatever it was.
- 16:47Speaker 8: Four field goals.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Well, how do you remember it?
- 16:49Speaker 7: I mean.
- 16:49Speaker 2: I don't.
- 16:50Speaker 5: No, I don't. And they had nine points.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Nobody does.
- 16:53Speaker 4: Except for him. Did you think field goals were two points?
- 16:56Speaker 4: Because you said they maybe kicked four field goals.
- 16:58Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Nine points.
- 16:59Speaker 5: He referenced the score.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Nine, seven.
- 17:01Speaker 8: Right.
- 17:01Speaker 5: Nine, seven.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Right.
- 17:02Speaker 5: Nine, seven. We love those kind of wins.
- 17:04Speaker 9: Yes.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Sam, put us there.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Put us in your living room as Kirk Ferentz is
- 17:08Speaker 1: walking off the field and he's emotional and he's crying
- 17:12Speaker 1: because I now it wasn't the greatest victory. Dan just
- 17:15Speaker 1: pointed out it was 81 with three field goals. but
- 17:18Speaker 1: he was crying coming off the field. Iowa had just
- 17:20Speaker 1: beaten Michigan. What comes around goes around. A lot of
- 17:23Speaker 1: people happy that Michigan lost that game because they probably
- 17:26Speaker 1: won a game they shouldn't have won in week one.
- 17:28Speaker 2: But put us in the living room with.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Iowa Sam as Kirk Ferentz is crying post-game.
- 17:34Speaker 8: I mean, if, you know, my living room on Saturday
- 17:37Speaker 8: was actually here at Fox Sports Radio. I was working,
- 17:40Speaker 8: but I was pacing around watching that final drive, that
- 17:43Speaker 8: 91-yard drive, and I'm just like, With a mixture of
- 17:47Speaker 8: penalties and guys injured on the, you know, and crazy
- 17:49Speaker 8: catches off of deflections and tip pass. I don't know
- 17:52Speaker 8: how they, I don't know how they got it set
- 17:54Speaker 8: up with two seconds left to take a shot at
- 17:55Speaker 8: the end zone. I mean, I'm still kind of baffled
- 17:57Speaker 8: by that, but I mean, I'll take it. It was
- 17:59Speaker 8: just a complete fever dream. That entire fourth quarter was crazy.
- 18:03Speaker 8: Was that the most emotional you've been as an Iowa fan?
- 18:06Speaker 5: No, no, no. It was definitely one of their best finishes.
- 18:10Speaker 8: Probably the last kind of finish they had was a
- 18:14Speaker 8: Ricky Stanzi to Marvin McNutt in 2009.
- 18:15Speaker 5: Okay, all right.
- 18:17Speaker 8: Kirk Ferentz crying is like... We love to see that
- 18:21Speaker 8: because that means that like, you know, you've done something.
- 18:24Speaker 5: When he cries, everyone just eats it up quickly.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Quickly.
- 18:27Speaker 5: Here's what it sounded like.
- 18:28Speaker 2: You come into the big house.
- 18:29Speaker 3: You said you've had some good wins here, but nothing
- 18:32Speaker 3: quite like this.
- 18:33Speaker 2: How can this help.
- 18:33Speaker 6: Propel a season?
- 18:35Speaker 9: I go back to 81, actually three field goals, nine,
- 18:37Speaker 9: seven win.
- 18:39Speaker 5: What are you talking about?
- 18:43Speaker 2: I played offensive line.
- 18:45Speaker 5: We were so terrible.
- 18:47Speaker 2: We couldn't score. And Chuck Long was our quarterback.
- 18:50Speaker 5: It's like, bad question, Jenny Dell. You don't remember 81? Like, yeah, what's... Oh, man.
- 18:58Speaker 2: We should all be crying. I mean, we really should.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Seriously, because the Hawkeyes and their field goal kicker are
- 19:04Speaker 1: headed to the playoffs.

- 19:55Speaker 1: God bless football. We've talked college football. We've talked NFL football.
- 20:00Speaker 1: It was a great football weekend. I want to talk
- 20:02Speaker 1: basketball with you for just a second here. LeBron James
- 20:06Speaker 1: held his first media session as a member of of
- 20:09Speaker 1: the Philadelphia 76ers. Did you hear what he had to say, Taylor?
- 20:13Speaker 9: Yeah, that he said he was going to join the
- 20:15Speaker 9: Knicks if the Knicks didn't win a title. And then
- 20:17Speaker 9: once they won the title, he was like, oh, I
- 20:18Speaker 9: can't do that.
- 20:19Speaker 2: One might say he Knicks the idea. How about that?
- 20:22Speaker 9: Yeah, this guy has such a savior complex. Oh, I'm
- 20:25Speaker 9: going to be the guy who comes in and save
- 20:26Speaker 9: the Knicks. You came in and saved the Knicks.
- 20:29Speaker 6: Right.
- 20:29Speaker 9: Jalen Brunson, six foot one guard, undersized guard from Villanova.
- 20:34Speaker 9: That's our next savior. That's who's going to get a
- 20:36Speaker 9: statue outside the Mecca.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Right. But had Brunson not saved the Knicks, are you
- 20:40Speaker 1: intrigued at all by the idea that LeBron was finally
- 20:43Speaker 1: thinking seriously about going to the New York Knicks?
- 20:46Speaker 2: I mean, we want a title. So we have the
- 20:48Speaker 2: last laugh and we don't need them. And I love that.
- 20:51Speaker 1: That the Knicks who won the title, they decided, hey,
- 20:53Speaker 1: you know what?
- 20:54Speaker 2: I'm not going to recruit that guy. We don't need
- 20:56Speaker 2: that guy.
- 20:57Speaker 1: He's not coming here to tack on championships at the
- 20:59Speaker 1: end of his career. But if they hadn't won that championship,
- 21:03Speaker 1: you and I would be really, really excited because it
- 21:06Speaker 1: seems like LeBron James would be a Knick today.
- 21:09Speaker 9: So I still fall in the camp of like, I
- 21:12Speaker 9: don't believe LeBron would have came to the Knicks. I
- 21:15Speaker 9: think it's just such a convenient thing. to say that
- 21:18Speaker 9: he would have just went to the Knicks if they
- 21:19Speaker 9: didn't win a title.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Right.
- 21:21Speaker 9: The only reason why it's somewhat believable is because he's
- 21:24Speaker 9: playing for the Philadelphia 76ers.
- 21:26Speaker 7: Right.
- 21:26Speaker 9: And there was like nobody who could have seen that
- 21:28Speaker 9: coming at this point last year.
- 21:30Speaker 1: So if he's willing to go to the 76ers, you
- 21:32Speaker 1: have to imagine he'd be willing to go anywhere to
- 21:35Speaker 1: try to win an NBA championship, right?
- 21:37Speaker 9: Yeah, but like the pressure of winning in New York
- 21:40Speaker 9: compared to the pressure of winning in Philadelphia, I think
- 21:43Speaker 9: still in Philadelphia, he has pressure to win because of
- 21:45Speaker 9: that team surrounding him. especially when you go out and
- 21:48Speaker 9: get somebody like Jalen Brown.
- 21:50Speaker 6: Right.
- 21:51Speaker 9: But that's a local pressure. Like with the Knicks, he
- 21:54Speaker 9: would have had national pressure to win. And I'm almost
- 21:57Speaker 9: glad that he's with the 76ers right now, because there's
- 22:00Speaker 9: some times where you forget that the Knicks are even
- 22:02Speaker 9: the defending champions. And it kind of takes away some
- 22:05Speaker 9: of that pressure that the Knicks are going to have
- 22:07Speaker 9: trying to repeat as champions.
- 22:08Speaker 1: So you're saying if he goes to the Knicks, they
- 22:11Speaker 1: don't win a championship. He has the weight of the
- 22:13Speaker 1: world on his shoulders because he is the missing piece.
- 22:16Speaker 1: He is the guy. that now needs to deliver that
- 22:19Speaker 1: championship to.
- 22:20Speaker 2: The New York Knicks.
- 22:21Speaker 1: And because he's in Philadelphia, he will not feel that weight,
- 22:25Speaker 1: even though he is the missing piece to a team
- 22:27Speaker 1: that should at least compete for an NBA championship.
- 22:31Speaker 9: Listen, people are going to crush him.
- 22:34Speaker 2: You mainly. Of course I am, yes.
- 22:37Speaker 9: And that team in Philadelphia is a title contending team.
- 22:41Speaker 9: I'm just glad he's not with the Knicks. It would
- 22:44Speaker 9: have been a cool story, a storybook ending to LeBron's career,
- 22:48Speaker 9: but I don't need the pomp and circumstance that comes
- 22:50Speaker 9: with LeBron James and the circus that comes with the
- 22:52Speaker 9: James game.
- 22:54Speaker 1: There is no better way to end the day with
- 22:57Speaker 1: pomp and circumstance.
