- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, Welcome back to Inside the Tape with Greg co
- 0:11Speaker 1: Sell On Inside the Birds. I'm Jeff Mosher and we
- 0:14Speaker 1: have Greg co Sell here with us. Happy holidays to everybody.
- 0:18Speaker 1: We are going to do the defense. Now, defensive tape
- 0:21Speaker 1: from the Eagles twenty nine to eighteen win over the Commanders.
- 0:25Speaker 1: And it's a little tricky, Greg, only because you know,
- 0:29Speaker 1: the Commanders a aren't very good offensively. B they're on
- 0:33Speaker 1: Marcus Mariota and then see at some point in the
- 0:35Speaker 1: game early in the game, third quarter, they're on Josh Johnson,
- 0:38Speaker 1: who's a thirty nine year old veteran. But that doesn't
- 0:43Speaker 1: you know, the Eagles still have to do their job,
- 0:44Speaker 1: and they did a good job. They've still been playing
- 0:47Speaker 1: without Jill and Carter. But let's talk philosophically because we're
- 0:52Speaker 1: starting to see this more and more now. Vic Fangio
- 0:55Speaker 1: continues to be a coverage not pressure defensive coordinator accurate.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Certainly in the last what three games for sure. So
- 1:05Speaker 2: what we don't know is if this is the way
- 1:07Speaker 2: it is or you know, like for instance, they're gonna
- 1:09Speaker 2: play Josh Allen, we don't know how he's going to play.
- 1:12Speaker 2: But clearly in the last I think it's been three games.
- 1:16Speaker 2: They've been playing a lot of man and they've been
- 1:18Speaker 2: rushing for d linemen and mixing in some four man
- 1:21Speaker 2: sim pressures where either Bonn or it was Dean who's
- 1:25Speaker 2: now he got hurt in this game. I don't know
- 1:27Speaker 2: what his status will be, but he only played thirteen
- 1:30Speaker 2: snaps and then it was Campbell, but you know, either
- 1:32Speaker 2: Bond or Campbell. Then it was the fourth rusher. So
- 1:36Speaker 2: basically they've been a four man rush team. They've rushed
- 1:38Speaker 2: five I think twice in this game, maybe, but they've
- 1:42Speaker 2: not really been doing that.
- 1:44Speaker 1: What did you see in John Campbell when he came
- 1:46Speaker 1: into play?
- 1:48Speaker 2: You know, I was watching him and I thought, again,
- 1:50Speaker 2: I don't it's impossible to know, like all the details
- 1:54Speaker 2: because I know for a fact that there are adjustments
- 1:56Speaker 2: on every single play, and you know, there's no way
- 2:00Speaker 2: we can know that. So I'm not gonna sit here
- 2:01Speaker 2: and say I have any clue as to what they are.
- 2:04Speaker 2: But he struck me as playing fine. I mean again,
- 2:08Speaker 2: I don't know if he missed you know, call, you
- 2:10Speaker 2: don't know that, but he certainly didn't have any egregious
- 2:13Speaker 2: issues where you went, oh my god, What's what's John
- 2:16Speaker 2: Campbell doing. You know, I thought he showed some toughness,
- 2:18Speaker 2: some physicality, made some tackles. I mean I thought, without
- 2:23Speaker 2: knowing every detail, I thought he looked good.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Okay, And you know, obviously they Vickys. You mentioned there
- 2:29Speaker 1: were only a couple of blitzes or pressures, and he did.
- 2:32Speaker 1: He was sent on that because that they liked from him.
- 2:36Speaker 1: The Washington offense did not run. I mean we talked
- 2:39Speaker 1: about in the preseason. I'm sorry, in the pregame show.
- 2:42Speaker 1: They have a good rushing attack, and for the most part,
- 2:45Speaker 1: I thought the Eagles did well defending the run against
- 2:47Speaker 1: the Commanders.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yeah, they did. You know, Rodriguez is one of those
- 2:52Speaker 2: just grinded out powerbacks, gets really tough yards. But they
- 2:57Speaker 2: certainly didn't control the game running the football. And you know,
- 3:00Speaker 2: you have to talk about Jordan Davis. He seems like,
- 3:03Speaker 2: you know, it's a broken record now, we talk about
- 3:05Speaker 2: him every week, but man, is he playing good football.
- 3:08Speaker 2: I mean in the run game, he just looks so
- 3:11Speaker 2: much quicker to me. And and that you know, explosive
- 3:15Speaker 2: is one of those words that I think people associate
- 3:17Speaker 2: with power, but explosive can also be used to talk
- 3:21Speaker 2: about short area quickness and burst, and he just looks
- 3:24Speaker 2: so much quicker now when he gets off a block
- 3:27Speaker 2: and moves laterally, he looks like a different guy. I mean,
- 3:31Speaker 2: he is playing at a really, really high level.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Is he from a tape observation standpoint, playing at the
- 3:40Speaker 1: level of a vita vella like the top guys? Or
- 3:43Speaker 1: are we just comparing him to what our expectations used
- 3:46Speaker 1: to be of Davis.
- 3:47Speaker 2: I mean, I think he's looking like, you know, one
- 3:50Speaker 2: of those guys. Now he's look he's obviously a really
- 3:54Speaker 2: good athlete. I mean, obviously running a forty two forty
- 3:57Speaker 2: doesn't relate to playing detail, but it does indicate that
- 4:01Speaker 2: you have athleticism in your body. Yeah, I mean, guys
- 4:04Speaker 2: that are three hundred and forty pounds don't normally run
- 4:07Speaker 2: for a two forty, So it does indicate that you
- 4:09Speaker 2: have athleticism in your body of some kind. Obviously there's
- 4:13Speaker 2: different kinds of athleticism, but we know the guys a
- 4:17Speaker 2: really good athlete, you know, for that size. It was
- 4:19Speaker 2: just a matter of channeling athleticism into the playing the
- 4:23Speaker 2: position of detackle, you know, And I think it's taken him.
- 4:27Speaker 2: I mean what. It's his fourth year. You'd be hard
- 4:31Speaker 2: pressed to say anything other than he's had a terrific season,
- 4:33Speaker 2: wouldn't you agree?
- 4:35Speaker 1: I think, well, you know what, yeah, I thought, you know,
- 4:37Speaker 1: the Chicago there were a couple of games in the
- 4:39Speaker 1: middle where we started to observe.
- 4:40Speaker 2: I think that that's you know, a yeah, he's played
- 4:43Speaker 2: a lot of snaw. When you play a lot of
- 4:45Speaker 2: games and you're a detackle, you know you're not going
- 4:47Speaker 2: to be dominant on every snap and every game. It's
- 4:50Speaker 2: just not the way it works. But I think overall,
- 4:53Speaker 2: he's really Yeah, he's had a really good season.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yep. And I mean the fact that they've been
- 5:02Speaker 1: able to survive without Jail and Carter. I think a
- 5:05Speaker 1: lot of people would have thought that that would be
- 5:06Speaker 1: a disaster. Yeah, losing Jail and Carter for a couple
- 5:09Speaker 1: of games, and it doesn't matter who you're playing. But yeah, no,
- 5:12Speaker 1: he's played really well. The secondary they continue and I
- 5:17Speaker 1: saw in your notes it's it's interesting how they continue
- 5:20Speaker 1: to deploy certain coverages to basically leave Quinyon Mitchell all alone.
- 5:24Speaker 1: I feel like quiney On Mitchell's had an all Pro year.
- 5:26Speaker 1: I don't know if anybody's Maybe people are playing as well,
- 5:30Speaker 1: like a certain or someone else, but is anyone playing
- 5:32Speaker 1: better and you're playing you watch a lot of guys.
- 5:34Speaker 2: I mean, he's playing really, you know, it's hard to
- 5:35Speaker 2: compare like that. You know who's playing. I mean, you know,
- 5:38Speaker 2: but he's he's just, you know, one of the top
- 5:41Speaker 2: corners in the league. I mean, he's a really, really
- 5:43Speaker 2: good player. It's hard for me to sit here and say,
- 5:45Speaker 2: you know, I'm not charting every snap of certain or
- 5:47Speaker 2: Stingley or you know, other corners. Obviously, I'm watching the
- 5:50Speaker 2: Eagles every single week, and I'm more conscious of them
- 5:53Speaker 2: just because you know, what we do. But I'm certainly
- 5:56Speaker 2: not doing that with every you know, top corner in
- 5:58Speaker 2: the league. But Quinon Mitchell is the top corner in
- 6:00Speaker 2: the NFL.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Yeah, what did you notice anything? The Commanders did have
- 6:04Speaker 1: a few explosives. They had a forty yard pass play,
- 6:07Speaker 1: They had a twenty yard catch I believe it was
- 6:12Speaker 1: Deebo had a twenty yard a Brooks.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Yeah, the McLaren forty yarder, you know, to start their
- 6:16Speaker 2: first second quarter possession. McLaurin was the single receiver. He
- 6:19Speaker 2: was plus split to the field, which I'm sure was
- 6:22Speaker 2: purposeful because Mitchell was the boundary corner and Jackson's the
- 6:26Speaker 2: field corner. But what they did is they had the
- 6:30Speaker 2: field safety APPS that's always alliance to the field and
- 6:33Speaker 2: blanket ship to the boundary when they're in a two
- 6:35Speaker 2: high safety structure, so Apps poached inside. So they left
- 6:39Speaker 2: corner Jackson and zero man on McLaurin, who got on
- 6:42Speaker 2: top of him with a stutter goll. I mean, these
- 6:44Speaker 2: things happen. Mclaurin's a really good receiver, you know. I mean,
- 6:47Speaker 2: you know, and Jackson's done well recently, but it's not
- 6:50Speaker 2: like he's at the level of Mitchell. So once in
- 6:52Speaker 2: a while that can happen. You know, you're talking about
- 6:54Speaker 2: the Samuel twenty yarder on third and nine. That was
- 6:57Speaker 2: Josh Johnson's first series. That was a four man sim pressure.
- 7:01Speaker 2: The Eagles played cover one. Actually Carter was at safety
- 7:05Speaker 2: on that play with blanket ship, but Samuel beat de
- 7:08Speaker 2: Gene on the crosser. It was kind of a natural
- 7:11Speaker 2: pick element, so you know he'd beat de Gene. I mean,
- 7:13Speaker 2: you know, these things do happen in games. You know,
- 7:16Speaker 2: it doesn't mean they're you know, you're not finching dejene
- 7:18Speaker 2: because he got beat, you know, on a crosser by
- 7:20Speaker 2: Samuel on third and nine.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Correct, correct? You know? Yeah, so again Vick with his coverages,
- 7:26Speaker 1: I mean he's been cover one quite a bit of
- 7:29Speaker 1: times this year. Yeah, which got a lot of man,
- 7:32Speaker 1: what do you read into that? Just more comfort you
- 7:34Speaker 1: think with guys like Mitchell and Cooper where he can
- 7:37Speaker 1: just man up.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Well, what they do a lot of is that they
- 7:41Speaker 2: will line up in a lot of you know, sort
- 7:44Speaker 2: of quarter structure and very often the boundary safety who
- 7:48Speaker 2: is blankenship will poach inside and they leave Mitchell basically
- 7:52Speaker 2: playing zero man. They do that multiple times in games,
- 7:55Speaker 2: so they're very comfortable with Mitchell playing zero man on
- 7:57Speaker 2: the boundary X and he's done a great job. But yeah,
- 8:01Speaker 2: they're playing more man, you know, and they don't blitch,
- 8:05Speaker 2: so it's not like, wow, they're playing man because they're
- 8:07Speaker 2: of all these pressures. This is the way he wants
- 8:10Speaker 2: to play. I mean, he wants to leave seven in coverage.
- 8:13Speaker 2: And if you can have a meaningful pass rush with
- 8:16Speaker 2: four and have seven in coverage, then you feel good
- 8:20Speaker 2: about the numbers game before the play even starts. On
- 8:23Speaker 2: a certain level, football is a numbers game. You know,
- 8:27Speaker 2: you want to win the numbers game, and and then
- 8:30Speaker 2: you know it's that that's why teams. Look, the math changes.
- 8:35Speaker 2: If you have to rush five, the math changes. Then
- 8:37Speaker 2: you only have six in coverage. So then there's fewer
- 8:41Speaker 2: things you can do because you have one less guy.
- 8:43Speaker 2: You know, there's just it's a mathematical equation, got it.
- 8:49Speaker 1: So it's good that they didn't lose a beat with
- 8:52Speaker 1: Nakobe Dean coming out, So and we'll have to see.
- 8:55Speaker 1: I'm very very interested based on what you've been saying
- 8:57Speaker 1: all year about vix coverages, on how he's going to
- 9:01Speaker 1: defend the Bills and the way the Bills play offense
- 9:05Speaker 1: because they don't have great perimeter playmakers not I mean
- 9:09Speaker 1: they have a quarterback who helps him out.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Yeah, the fact that Ken Coleman and Gave Davis were
- 9:13Speaker 2: healthy scratches you know this week tells you a lot
- 9:16Speaker 2: about their receivers. They're a tight end based and running
- 9:19Speaker 2: back based pass game. And then with Josh Allen, if
- 9:23Speaker 2: it doesn't work, you know, he can't happen all the time,
- 9:26Speaker 2: no matter how good he is. But then you know
- 9:29Speaker 2: he theoretically can get them out of trouble sometimes, you know,
- 9:33Speaker 2: but they're not really They're not really a difficult pass
- 9:38Speaker 2: game in terms of what you have to defend because
- 9:41Speaker 2: the wide receivers are not you know. I guess what
- 9:43Speaker 2: I'm saying is you probably don't feel like you have
- 9:45Speaker 2: to do anything special like I think Vickle feel like
- 9:48Speaker 2: he can play what he wants to play. The bigger
- 9:51Speaker 2: issue becomes Josh Allen in those critical down in distant situations.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Hey, it's Jeff Mosher. A quick question for you. If

- 12:42Speaker 1: just a couple of look because I wanted to focus.
- 12:44Speaker 1: There wasn't a ton defensively in this game, but we
- 12:47Speaker 1: did have a case where Nikobe Dean's out and John
- 12:52Speaker 1: Campbell's in, and they do use both guys similarly as
- 12:56Speaker 1: far as sim pressures so or even five man Russias.
- 13:00Speaker 1: And this is I believe a third down where they're
- 13:03Speaker 1: gonna send Yeah, this is third and ten in the
- 13:06Speaker 1: third quarter, and they're gonna send Campbell on a five
- 13:09Speaker 1: man rush. Do you recall this play?
- 13:11Speaker 2: So this was in the third quarter?
- 13:13Speaker 1: Yeah, third and ten, oh five pressure.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Third quarter? Yeah, it was their first third quarter possession.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Campbell is the fifth rusher from the initial double mug look, yes, yeah,
- 13:24Speaker 2: And this is when the running back was called for
- 13:27Speaker 2: holding for trying to block Campbell.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Right right and by for those who need, a double
- 13:32Speaker 1: mug means.
- 13:33Speaker 2: The linebackers mugged up on the ball in each A gap,
- 13:38Speaker 2: so they start there and you do this to dictate
- 13:41Speaker 2: protection because you can't assume that they're dropping out. The
- 13:43Speaker 2: Eagles are not big blitzers, so sometimes you can assume that.
- 13:47Speaker 2: But the bottom line is the way they block this,
- 13:50Speaker 2: and the way pretty much every team does is the
- 13:52Speaker 2: center takes one guy, or let's put the the center
- 13:55Speaker 2: is responsible for one guy and the back's responsible for
- 13:59Speaker 2: the other guy in the A gap. So here the
- 14:01Speaker 2: center is responsible for Baughn and the back is responsible
- 14:05Speaker 2: McNichols for Campbell. And you can see it as it
- 14:08Speaker 2: plays out. Now Bourne drops out. But as we always say, Jeff,
- 14:12Speaker 2: you can't change the protection in the middle of.
- 14:15Speaker 1: In the middle of the protection right.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Right, the call with me. So the center is staring
- 14:20Speaker 2: at Baughn. He leaves the center. You know, now he
- 14:23Speaker 2: has to decide he's just gonna look right or left
- 14:25Speaker 2: and try to help. But he can't block Campbell. You know,
- 14:29Speaker 2: Campbell's already past that, so so you know, Nicol holds
- 14:34Speaker 2: him and Mariota runs around and throws an incompletion.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Right and then the running back McNichols got flagged for
- 14:43Speaker 1: holding on that.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Yeah, you can see it totally here. You can see
- 14:47Speaker 2: a little here. The center goes right to Bonne, who
- 14:49Speaker 2: drops and he's kind of for a moment and no
- 14:52Speaker 2: man's land the center and he's and he's trying to
- 14:55Speaker 2: figure out, okay, who can I help, And the back
- 14:58Speaker 2: has Campbell that's right.
- 15:02Speaker 1: And by the way, obviously he drew the holding, so
- 15:04Speaker 1: Jahad Campbell did his job. But how many times have
- 15:06Speaker 1: we seen the same exact pressure where Nikobe will just
- 15:10Speaker 1: completely blow over the guy. He won't even give the
- 15:13Speaker 1: guy a chance to hold him. He's just knocking that
- 15:15Speaker 1: guy in his rear end and getting Well.
- 15:17Speaker 2: I'll give Kim. I give h mcnickel credit here. He's
- 15:19Speaker 2: a veteran, he's played a lot on third down in
- 15:21Speaker 2: this league. And if you notice he really stepped he
- 15:24Speaker 2: he made sure he created a lot of distance between
- 15:27Speaker 2: himself and Mariota, so even if he initially got moved
- 15:31Speaker 2: back a little bit, it would still be distance. The
- 15:34Speaker 2: worst thing. And they you know, they don't teach it
- 15:37Speaker 2: this way. You know, they teach it for you to
- 15:39Speaker 2: go up and get the guy. The last thing you
- 15:41Speaker 2: want to do is stand close to where the quarterback
- 15:44Speaker 2: is because if you just get moved a little, you're
- 15:46Speaker 2: in the quarterback's lap.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Yep, yep, Mariota hanging around the pocket there, which is
- 15:51Speaker 1: what you know, you're trying to buy a time. They
- 15:52Speaker 1: don't right hurt McNichols because McNichols had a clean block initially.
- 15:56Speaker 1: It wasn't until he had a turn around here. Yeah,
- 15:59Speaker 1: and chumpaul And that's.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Really that's hard to sustain those kinds of blocks.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Yeah, that's really not a bad By the way, nice throw.
- 16:06Speaker 1: It almost got caught. Oh yeah, that was that was crazy. Yeah,
- 16:14Speaker 1: right off his hands. Hey, Philly fans, game day is

- 18:28Speaker 1: to Gen interception. So I know the TV did a
- 18:32Speaker 1: pretty good job of explaining why you wouldn't throw to
- 18:35Speaker 1: that side of the field on a four strong concept,
- 18:37Speaker 1: but I wanted you to also give you your insight
- 18:40Speaker 1: on this as well.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Yeah, they went for they had a nice concept here.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Actually the Redskins went with for strong with their route
- 18:49Speaker 2: concept four strong actually into the boundary which you don't
- 18:52Speaker 2: see a lot. If you want to run it, you
- 18:54Speaker 2: can see that, so you know, for and the Eagles
- 18:57Speaker 2: did a great job a picking this up. Look look
- 19:01Speaker 2: how did you go back? I'm trying to see who
- 19:04Speaker 2: drops out? That's Campbell, who drops out to match the
- 19:08Speaker 2: shorter of the overtype routes. Does a great job matching that,
- 19:12Speaker 2: which means that blanket ship can match the the other one,
- 19:17Speaker 2: and so they match it. They take all this away.
- 19:21Speaker 2: It's beautiful. So now Johnson, who's clearly looking there has
- 19:24Speaker 2: no throw. Look you can see there's no throw. I
- 19:27Speaker 2: mean the little you know, dump off. But this was
- 19:30Speaker 2: third and long was it not? It was long. He's
- 19:35Speaker 2: turned thirteen, so he's not you know, he's not looking
- 19:38Speaker 2: for the dump off. And the Eagles in their mind,
- 19:40Speaker 2: they're going to rally up and tackle them anyway in
- 19:42Speaker 2: their mind. So Johnson does what he's not capable of doing,
- 19:47Speaker 2: and he's on the outside the far hash and he's
- 19:49Speaker 2: drifting away so he can't reach you know, he can't
- 19:53Speaker 2: make this throat to Burke's who theoretically is open. I mean,
- 19:57Speaker 2: if this was Matthew Stafford, it might be complete. But
- 20:00Speaker 2: you know, he can't really make this throw. No, no
- 20:04Speaker 2: knock on Johnson. He just can't make it. It's not personal.
- 20:06Speaker 1: I think most quarterbacks can't. Yeah, that's not you're right, yeah, yeah.
- 20:10Speaker 2: And he's falling away.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Right, That's what I'm saying. He was off his back
- 20:14Speaker 1: foot too. It's like there's about to be a guy
- 20:16Speaker 1: in his face.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:18Speaker 1: I wonder if he could have rolled continued to roll
- 20:20Speaker 1: to his left though, because he kind of stops right
- 20:24Speaker 1: here instead of continuing to roll the left. Because as
- 20:27Speaker 1: as the zone widens, then guys start to become a
- 20:30Speaker 1: little bit open.
- 20:31Speaker 2: You know, well not really, because Campbell does a great
- 20:34Speaker 2: job of real life of match, carry, deliver and then
- 20:37Speaker 2: drops off to take the check down. So even if
- 20:40Speaker 2: he was going to throw the check down, theoretically Campbell's
- 20:42Speaker 2: in good position. There's really no one open here. I mean,
- 20:45Speaker 2: look at Debo.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Maybe at the forty if he rolled, if he continues to.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Throw, now, okay, blanket Chief is playing right over the
- 20:53Speaker 2: top of Yeah, I guess.
- 20:54Speaker 1: He's right on top of it.
- 20:55Speaker 2: That's true. Yeah. Yeah.
- 20:56Speaker 1: It was good defense, good defense, defense, but decision.
- 21:00Speaker 2: He took away all the stress points. You know, that's
- 21:02Speaker 2: the way coaches think when you play zone. What are
- 21:05Speaker 2: the stress points in the zone and how can we
- 21:07Speaker 2: take them away? Right?
- 21:10Speaker 1: All right, there's a pair of runs in the third
- 21:12Speaker 1: court I think it was third or fourth quarter where
- 21:14Speaker 1: Jordan Davis just absolutely annihilated and he drops it. This
- 21:18Speaker 1: one is the first of them. I believe it's a
- 21:20Speaker 1: minus one. By the way, Byron Young had a sack
- 21:22Speaker 1: in this game today, continues.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:27Speaker 1: But so this one, I believe that's the Let me
- 21:30Speaker 1: go back and see who.
- 21:32Speaker 2: But look at Davis.
- 21:33Speaker 1: He just looks so much quicker he does. He's explosion
- 21:36Speaker 1: off the ball.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Yeah, looks so much quicker.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean he just swipes past the left hand.
- 21:41Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, it's just a quickness to his movement
- 21:44Speaker 2: that we've seen most of this season. I mean it's
- 21:47Speaker 2: which we hadn't seen in the past except maybe once
- 21:49Speaker 2: in a great while. Yeah.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I also think Craig and sometimes you can just make
- 21:54Speaker 1: this conclusion by watching a guy play. And I'm not
- 21:57Speaker 1: knocking him for the last three years, but I feel
- 21:59Speaker 1: like he feels himself as a player, like the want
- 22:03Speaker 1: to is there, The understanding of how he can dominate
- 22:06Speaker 1: a game is there now, so he puts it on
- 22:09Speaker 1: display where maybe he just didn't have that, Maybe he
- 22:12Speaker 1: needed that confidence that way. I don't know whatever.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't speak to that, but I mean, you know, look,
- 22:18Speaker 2: the guy is also and I'm saying that this is
- 22:21Speaker 2: why he's playing well. But you know, he is getting
- 22:24Speaker 2: to the point where he wants a second contract, and
- 22:26Speaker 2: I think the Eagles are gonna give him a contract.
- 22:28Speaker 2: I don't think they're gonna let him walk.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I agree. So now this is would this be a
- 22:33Speaker 1: five man surface for the for the commanders here center
- 22:37Speaker 1: right car, it's more.
- 22:39Speaker 2: For man I think a little far removed. I mean yeah,
- 22:44Speaker 2: I mean it's it would be considered more of a
- 22:46Speaker 2: foe man's surface.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Okay, with a little tights there from Birks.
- 22:53Speaker 2: I mean he's going up to block, you know, next level.
- 22:55Speaker 2: But look at Davis again, just.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Explodes it through the traffic there. Now he's lined up
- 23:01Speaker 1: over center.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Now, actually they stunted here, an inside run stunt, and
- 23:06Speaker 2: you can see it because look what a Jomo does.
- 23:08Speaker 2: He slams hard inside Davis, you know, reaches instead of
- 23:13Speaker 2: immediately you know, looking to move. So he's waiting for
- 23:16Speaker 2: a Jomo to do his thing and then he's going
- 23:18Speaker 2: to play off that. So it's a run stunt. It's
- 23:21Speaker 2: not a pat it's not a pass Stunt's a run stunt.
- 23:24Speaker 1: All right. And there was unfortunately for the running back
- 23:28Speaker 1: there I think it was Rodriguez. There was nobody to
- 23:30Speaker 1: help lock him because that's good coaching right there. Yeah,
- 23:33Speaker 1: good defensive alignment, and the running back never had a chance. Bam.
- 23:40Speaker 1: That is Shordan Davis like that.
- 23:43Speaker 2: I'll tell you that.
- 23:43Speaker 1: No, even with the weight loss, he's still a big dude.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Yeah no, But I mean, you know, look, obviously the
- 23:50Speaker 2: Buffalo game is is going to be an intriguing game.
- 23:53Speaker 2: We'll you know, talk about that later in the week,
- 23:56Speaker 2: you know, so we'll see. I mean, you know, Buffalo
- 23:59Speaker 2: is a team because like we said, they they don't
- 24:02Speaker 2: really have weapons on the perimeter. Their tight end and
- 24:05Speaker 2: running back based uh, they do. There are a couple
- 24:07Speaker 2: of things they do really well conceptually with their tight
- 24:10Speaker 2: ends and running backs, you know, so we'll see. And defensively,
- 24:16Speaker 2: one thing that they've done this year, and I guess
- 24:18Speaker 2: when you're winning, you know you do this is they
- 24:20Speaker 2: they seem to make important plays at critical moments. But
- 24:25Speaker 2: their defense, particularly the run defense, has not been great.
- 24:29Speaker 2: But you know, they they've they've made big plays at
- 24:32Speaker 2: critical moments.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Correct, correct, Yeah, even yeah, you're right. The Commander's had
- 24:38Speaker 1: a few good runs against them, but when it really mattered,
- 24:40Speaker 1: the Eagles were able to lock down.
- 24:42Speaker 2: No, but I'm talking about the Bills. The Bills, Yes,
- 24:45Speaker 2: the Bills. The Bills have not been a great run defense,
- 24:48Speaker 2: but in the fourth quarter of games, third and fourth quarter,
- 24:51Speaker 2: particularly in a lot of these games where they've come back,
- 24:54Speaker 2: they've made critical defensive plays in those team moments. Even
- 24:58Speaker 2: though they are run defense has not been great throughout
- 25:01Speaker 2: the season.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Right, and they've been without at Oliver, who's a pretty
- 25:04Speaker 1: good tackle.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Yeah, and I don't think he's gonna be He's not
- 25:06Speaker 2: ready to play yet, is he. I don't think.
- 25:08Speaker 1: I thought he was getting closer, so right, we'll have
- 25:11Speaker 1: to check later in the week now we discuss that.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, So because.
- 25:15Speaker 1: He does make a difference for them, I imagine.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Oh, he's their impact player up front. I mean, he's
- 25:20Speaker 2: he's one of those guys.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, we'll talk about that later in the week.
- 25:24Speaker 1: On the Inside the Birds pregame show, that's gonna wrap
- 25:26Speaker 1: up the Eagles defense against the Commanders and their twenty
- 25:30Speaker 1: nine to eighteen win and wrap up our two part
- 25:32Speaker 1: show previous breaking down the tape of the Eagles win
- 25:35Speaker 1: over the Commanders for Greg Cosell. I'm Jeff Mosher. You've
- 25:39Speaker 1: been watching Inside the Tape with Greg Cosell on Inside
