Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: This media podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:13Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer new Art and
- 0:16Speaker 2: today we're joined by Randall, Brody, Corey, Hansei, Tresa and Logan.
- 0:21Speaker 2: This is a ten round quiz show with questions from
- 0:23Speaker 2: Meat Eater's four verticals which are hunting, fishing, conservation and cooking,
- 0:27Speaker 2: and there is a prize. Meat Eater will donate five
- 0:29Speaker 2: hundred dollars to the conservation organization of the winners. Choosing
- 0:33Speaker 2: and for the stat of the week. This week we're
- 0:35Speaker 2: looking at perfect games. On average, six point four percent
- 0:39Speaker 2: of episodes end in a perfect game, but with only
- 0:42Speaker 2: one perfect game so far this year, it's been four
- 0:45Speaker 2: percent of episodes in twenty twenty five. If only Randall
- 0:48Speaker 2: would have gotten that perfect game last week.
- 0:51Speaker 3: I was about to ask you why we're talking about
- 0:53Speaker 3: perfect games this week. Last week it seems as though
- 0:56Speaker 3: you've used this bit to needle me in advance of
- 0:59Speaker 3: our petition.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I don't think. I think Randal in twenty twenty four,
- 1:03Speaker 2: when he was still hungry for a media or trivia championship,
- 1:06Speaker 2: he wouldn't have made that mistake.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Oh no, I'm pretty sure.
- 1:08Speaker 3: I had made the same mistake on question ten of
- 1:12Speaker 3: a near perfect game last year as well.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Chief question to see that.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Oh it was bad too. I just misread the question.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Does your face get really red like it usually does? No,
- 1:23Speaker 4: I just laughed you so bad, you're growing as a person.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Then he was.
- 1:27Speaker 2: He was digging through his Instagram dms to find out
- 1:30Speaker 2: who he was going to do it with the game
- 1:32Speaker 2: while he sat there with the wrong answer on his wife.
- 1:35Speaker 2: It was like two minutes.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I just misread the question. I read elk as moose,
- 1:40Speaker 3: and so.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I answered, we're not in Sweden. Yeah, actually I didn't
- 1:44Speaker 1: think about that. Spin. Wow, I'm cosmic, paulsan.
- 1:47Speaker 2: So now now we have less perfect games, less money
- 1:51Speaker 2: for conservation.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Oh get there, don't worry.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Here's our Infrequently Asked Questions segment. If you have a
- 1:56Speaker 2: trivia related question for our crew, send it to Trivia
- 2:00Speaker 2: at the mediater dot com with the subject line I FAQ.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Pat von Koy says, how do you decide in which
- 2:06Speaker 2: order to place the questions? There doesn't seem to be
- 2:09Speaker 2: any rhyme or reason. Not complaining, just a man of structure.
- 2:12Speaker 2: I'm genuinely curious. There is some structure. I spread out
- 2:16Speaker 2: the questions by topics, so I never want like two
- 2:18Speaker 2: hunting questions in the first five or two fishing questions
- 2:21Speaker 2: in the last five. I try to spread out regional diversity,
- 2:24Speaker 2: so I don't want a question about Alabama followed by
- 2:26Speaker 2: a question about Georgia. And I don't want a question
- 2:29Speaker 2: about Western big game followed by another question about Western
- 2:32Speaker 2: big game, so I spread it out that way. I
- 2:34Speaker 2: try to balance difficulty between the first five and last
- 2:37Speaker 2: five questions. So if the Shelby index is like a four,
- 2:41Speaker 2: I'll try to put two she got right in the
- 2:42Speaker 2: front half and two in the back half. That way
- 2:44Speaker 2: it's not lopsided. And then I try to put a
- 2:47Speaker 2: challenging question at question nine or ten that might be
- 2:50Speaker 2: the difference maker for a tight game between Randall and Brody.
- 2:53Speaker 2: I don't want to always make it question ten, though.
- 2:56Speaker 4: Sir, you could have just said you'd like to mix
- 2:58Speaker 4: it up.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I like to mix it up. I want pat that
- 3:02Speaker 2: there's a lot of thought that goes into the ordering
- 3:06Speaker 2: of it, and question ten is always fishing.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Yeah, there's one last you forgot question ten fishing.
- 3:12Speaker 4: He proved that wrong many fishing.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I thought it was passing fast.
- 3:18Speaker 5: It is.
- 3:20Speaker 2: We have fishing at question nine, though it does the
- 3:23Speaker 2: same damage to Randall.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Either way, I'm gonna make a little note for myself quick.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Yeah, for somewhere as a fishing guy.
- 3:28Speaker 2: It's pretty weak in the fishing captains. Yeah, captain and
- 3:32Speaker 2: a fishing guide. We have some housekeeping today about more
- 3:35Speaker 2: potential Jeopardy thievery. On the episode of Meat Eater Trivia
- 3:40Speaker 2: that dropped on May twenty, first, we had a question
- 3:42Speaker 2: where the answer was Diorama. Then on the May twenty
- 3:46Speaker 2: seventh episode of Jeopardy Masters, they had a question where
- 3:49Speaker 2: the answer was also Diorama. So just six days apart. Now,
- 3:53Speaker 2: I couldn't find the Jeopardy Master's film schedule for twenty
- 3:56Speaker 2: twenty five, but I could for twenty twenty four. Last year,
- 3:59Speaker 2: they filmed episode of Jeopardy Masters roughly two weeks before airing,
- 4:03Speaker 2: so assuming they kept a similar cadence this year, then
- 4:06Speaker 2: it's just a coincidence that both had Diorama for an answer.
- 4:10Speaker 2: But the real takeaway here is that our show is
- 4:12Speaker 2: as good as their show, and then maybe Jeopardy needs
- 4:16Speaker 2: to think about hiring me. When Ken Jennings moves on.
- 4:19Speaker 2: He's only fifty one. It's going to be a little
- 4:21Speaker 2: while before you.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Could have Phil come up with a new Jeopardy tune jingle.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I don't think you mess with that, then
- 4:30Speaker 2: you lose your views through Phil in there. But I'll
- 4:34Speaker 2: take Phil with me. Phil I Jeopardy calls. I'll take
- 4:36Speaker 2: you with me to Jeopardy.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I'd love to do that.
- 4:40Speaker 6: Okay, yeah, we'll still be here.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Three persons. We've got three people Jeopardy. Then that you
- 4:47Speaker 2: could you could come higher. Index for today is a four,
- 4:51Speaker 2: so our winner should get eight correct answers. And with
- 4:54Speaker 2: that we're onto the game of trivia. Play the drop, Phil, Look,
- 5:00Speaker 2: I need to know what I stand to win everything?
- 5:04Speaker 5: How's that?
- 5:05Speaker 1: Just tend to win everything?
- 5:13Speaker 2: Demon Suckers Question one. The topic is conservation. This first
- 5:18Speaker 2: great question is via Peter Doggham. As always, it will
- 5:22Speaker 2: be multiple choice. What percentage of Canada is Crownland? Is
- 5:27Speaker 2: it fourteen percent, thirty nine percent, sixty four percent or
- 5:33Speaker 2: eighty nine percent? Crownland is Canada's version of public lands.
- 5:40Speaker 2: What percentage of Canada is public land? Is it fourteen percent,
- 5:44Speaker 2: thirty nine percent, sixty four percent or eighty nine percent.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Not a real confident room. Brody was first to answer,
- 5:58Speaker 2: what percentage of Canada is crown land? And fourteen percent,
- 6:02Speaker 2: thirty nine percent, sixty four percent, eighty nine percent. Brody,
- 6:07Speaker 2: how do you feel about your answer?
- 6:10Speaker 4: I mean I used a like, I use some thought.
- 6:15Speaker 4: Oh come, I didn't just guess.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Fourteen percent, thirty nine percent, sixty four percent of burning.
- 6:23Speaker 3: What were the numbers that went into your thought?
- 6:28Speaker 1: Do you have what numbers?
- 6:30Speaker 4: It was like places gut, Yeah, like you think about
- 6:35Speaker 4: the layout of Canada.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Is everybody ready? Jeez, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 6:44Speaker 2: We have Hansei saying thirty nine, Tresa says fourteen, Randall
- 6:50Speaker 2: says fourteen, Corey sixty four, Logan thirty nine, Brody sixty four.
- 6:58Speaker 2: The correct answer is eighty nine percent. Nobody got that
- 7:03Speaker 2: one right.
- 7:04Speaker 4: I figured it was a lot.
- 7:06Speaker 2: In fact, I think we had multiple people go on
- 7:07Speaker 2: the other end of the spectrum and say fourteen percent,
- 7:10Speaker 2: forty eight percent of Canada is provincial crown land and
- 7:14Speaker 2: forty one percent is federal crownland. That means just eleven
- 7:18Speaker 2: percent of the country is privately owned. In the United States,
- 7:21Speaker 2: about forty percent of the country's public land.
- 7:24Speaker 4: I mean you think like Yukon Northwest territories, like just
- 7:28Speaker 4: purely public land stuff.
- 7:29Speaker 2: No, In fact, I think it's like, what's the stats,
- 7:32Speaker 2: like eighty percent of their population lives south of I
- 7:35Speaker 2: don't know, a Maine or something like forty ninth parallel. Yeah,
- 7:39Speaker 2: eighty nine percent of Canada is public land. Question too,
- 7:42Speaker 2: The topic is hunting. It's a tough start for our
- 7:45Speaker 2: six players. This Big Game Magazine was founded in nineteen
- 7:51Speaker 2: eighty seven and calls itself quote a three generation media
- 7:55Speaker 2: based hunting company. This Big Game Magazine was founded in
- 8:02Speaker 2: nineteen eighty seven and calls itself a three generation media
- 8:06Speaker 2: based hunting company. Randal already has his answer Brody as well, Randall,
- 8:12Speaker 2: do you have this one right here?
- 8:13Speaker 5: I do?
- 8:15Speaker 2: How about you, Brody? I think so a three generation
- 8:20Speaker 2: media based hunting company.
- 8:22Speaker 4: I'm about as confident as the percentage of public land
- 8:26Speaker 4: in Canada.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Founded in nineteen eighty seven.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Boy, that was that was a heck of a first question, Spencer.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Tough start, Yeah, eighty nine percent. This Big Game Magazine
- 8:37Speaker 2: was founded in nineteen eighty seven and calls itself a
- 8:39Speaker 2: three generation media based hunting company. Our other four players
- 8:45Speaker 2: look stumped.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Do we need the.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Is this a magazine, if you're right, Randall, that you've
- 8:56Speaker 2: ever been subscribed to?
- 8:57Speaker 3: Oh yeah, okay, oh yeah ah.
- 9:02Speaker 4: I'm just gonna leave it.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Brody, if you think you have the right answer, Is
- 9:05Speaker 2: this a magazine that you've been subscribed to?
- 9:08Speaker 4: Never subscribe to it?
- 9:09Speaker 2: Okay, but you're aware of it. This big gay magazine
- 9:12Speaker 2: was founded in nineteen eighty seven and calls itself quote
- 9:16Speaker 2: a three generation media based hunting company. Is everybody ready?
- 9:22Speaker 6: One second, you're right down the wrong answer.
- 9:24Speaker 4: I was back in the heyday of magazine.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Man, it was nineteen eighty seven.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Just a little baby.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Then?
- 9:34Speaker 2: How little of a baby?
- 9:36Speaker 3: Well, it depends when it was found in nineteen as
- 9:39Speaker 3: little as I guess, three months, uh huh, potentially fourteen months.
- 9:47Speaker 1: One second, okay, is that math work?
- 9:52Speaker 2: Noo? Corey going back to his whiteboard a second time.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Go ahead and revene your answers. We have Hansy saying,
- 10:02Speaker 2: Peterson's Tressa says the outdoor channel, Randall says Eastman's Cordy
- 10:08Speaker 2: says it sports a field, logan field and stream. Brody
- 10:12Speaker 2: Eastman's yeah, the correct answer is Eastman's Brody and Randall
- 10:17Speaker 2: got that Wonder night.
- 10:19Speaker 4: If you were gonna make a because isn't it like
- 10:21Speaker 4: Eastman's Hunting something, Well.
- 10:22Speaker 2: It's Easton's Hunting Journal. And then I think like a
- 10:25Speaker 2: decadator is when they found hunting. Gordon Eastman started filming
- 10:30Speaker 2: Hunting in the nineteen fifties, which inspired his son Mike
- 10:33Speaker 2: to create the magazine in nineteen eighty seven. It wasn't
- 10:37Speaker 2: long before his son's Guy and Ike got involved with
- 10:39Speaker 2: the brand. Eastman still publishes twelve magazines.
- 10:42Speaker 3: A year based in Powell, Wyoming.
- 10:45Speaker 2: That's right.
- 10:45Speaker 4: They're kind of a dinosaurs used to shoot the giant mule.
- 10:49Speaker 2: You don't know what they do anymore.
- 10:51Speaker 4: Well, I mean, I'm sure they still do, but like
- 10:53Speaker 4: they have all that part of Wyoming.
- 10:55Speaker 3: This is not what the classic like Winter Range bucks
- 10:58Speaker 3: that all had names Popeye Popeye.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:03Speaker 2: I feel like they're like the two pillars of their
- 11:05Speaker 2: magazine are like success stories from readers and then the draws,
- 11:10Speaker 2: which is something that a million companies are doing now,
- 11:13Speaker 2: but Eastman's for a while, A bunch of feel like
- 11:15Speaker 2: they were kind of the place a.
- 11:16Speaker 4: Bunch of magazines ripped that like format off right too
- 11:21Speaker 4: after them?
- 11:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Question three the topic is public lands. This is our
- 11:26Speaker 2: listener question of the Week, which was won by Nicholas
- 11:29Speaker 2: Schneck for setting this great question. Nicholas is going to
- 11:31Speaker 2: get a board game signed by the crew. If you
- 11:33Speaker 2: want a chance to win the list Listener Question of
- 11:35Speaker 2: the Week, then send your question to Trivia at the
- 11:37Speaker 2: meat eater dot com. The National Park Service recommends wrapping
- 11:43Speaker 2: your vehicle in tarp while visiting Kings Canyon to prevent
- 11:47Speaker 2: this animal from eating your radiator hose. And we have
- 11:51Speaker 2: a photo of some tarped vehicles there. You can see
- 11:56Speaker 2: this on the Meat Eater podcast YouTube channel. I'm also
- 11:59Speaker 2: going to post this on Instagram, this photo that I'm referencing.
- 12:02Speaker 2: The National Park Service recommends wrapping your vehicle in tarp
- 12:07Speaker 2: while visiting Kings Canyon to prevent this animal from eating
- 12:11Speaker 2: your radiator host.
- 12:12Speaker 4: Chicken wire as well.
- 12:15Speaker 2: The National Park Service now says that is antiquated, so
- 12:19Speaker 2: don't do chicken wire.
- 12:20Speaker 3: I wouldn't be worried about this at Kings Canyon. I've
- 12:24Speaker 3: heard stories of people being stranded at remote trailheads.
- 12:28Speaker 2: The National Park Service recommend wrapping your vehicle in tarp
- 12:33Speaker 2: while visiting Kings Canyon to prevent this animal from eating
- 12:37Speaker 2: your radiator host. There are I think seven vehicles in
- 12:40Speaker 2: this photo, and four of them have the tarp on them.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Two of them are priuses.
- 12:47Speaker 2: So again we're looking for the animal. Is everybody ready
- 12:53Speaker 2: go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Hansi saying
- 12:56Speaker 2: Marmott's TRESSA says pack rat, Randall says porcupine. Corey says
- 13:01Speaker 2: pack rat, Logan says porcupine. Brody says marmot. Oh, the
- 13:06Speaker 2: correct answer is Marmott. That one right.
- 13:13Speaker 7: So, my wife and I had one get into our
- 13:16Speaker 7: Toyota tundra three years ago, made itself a home at
- 13:20Speaker 7: your house.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:21Speaker 7: It was in there for about an hour and did
- 13:24Speaker 7: fifteen dollars worth of damage.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Oh my goodness.
- 13:27Speaker 7: It was specifically and then oh had eight hoses an
- 13:30Speaker 7: electrical which apparently during that year of Toyota, they made
- 13:33Speaker 7: a bunch of these hoses with like a soybean compound,
- 13:37Speaker 7: just like come on, might as well have been peanut butter.
- 13:40Speaker 7: But yeah, that thing saw sad demise.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:44Speaker 2: One of Jannis's neighbors also watched a Marmot crawl up
- 13:47Speaker 2: under his pickup and it was kind of amusing at first,
- 13:49Speaker 2: and then he read online within a few minutes of
- 13:52Speaker 2: that the damage they can do, and then it was
- 13:54Speaker 2: a problem. Yeah, Marmot's disabled about thirty vehicles every year
- 13:58Speaker 2: in California's King's Canyon National Park by chewing through car wiring.
- 14:03Speaker 2: They also say visitors often unknowingly give rides to marmots
- 14:06Speaker 2: out of the park that are stowed away in engine compartments.
- 14:09Speaker 2: The park used to recommend wrapping your vehicle and chicken wire,
- 14:13Speaker 2: but now say that marmots have learned how to get
- 14:15Speaker 2: around it. The large rodents are attracted to anafreeze, which
- 14:19Speaker 2: biologists say gives them quote a bit of a high. Really,
- 14:23Speaker 2: they survived that they survived, like they started tracking dead.
- 14:27Speaker 2: They started tracking them. One year. I noticed that they
- 14:29Speaker 2: would walk off stune, but then they would come back
- 14:31Speaker 2: the next year, and there was like almost they came
- 14:34Speaker 2: short of calling it an addiction when these things would
- 14:37Speaker 2: start getting up in cars and chewing on wires.
- 14:39Speaker 3: So no, it just makes you feel good. It's a.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Very different.
- 14:44Speaker 3: I'd open Harbor Freight right outside the gates of King's Cannon.
- 14:47Speaker 2: I'm actually impressed at how many people do this. I
- 14:50Speaker 2: just don't need to go to King's Canyon if I
- 14:52Speaker 2: need to wrap my pickup in tarp.
- 14:55Speaker 4: I mean thirty a year. How many people visit that park?
- 14:59Speaker 2: Enough? But but also the consequences are pretty high. What
- 15:02Speaker 2: if that's you and your radiator hose kids?
- 15:04Speaker 4: Uh man, I'm gonna take my chances.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Question for the topic is cooking. The Food Network describes
- 15:13Speaker 2: this as quote a flat crispy corn tortilla that is
- 15:18Speaker 2: typically layered with mashed or re refried beans, protein, cheese,
- 15:23Speaker 2: and toppings. The Food Network describes this as a flat
- 15:29Speaker 2: crispy corn tortilla that is typically layered with mashed or
- 15:34Speaker 2: refried beans, protein, cheese, and toppings.
- 15:38Speaker 6: Around here, we gotta worry about pack rats.
- 15:40Speaker 5: Yeah. I brought one home and obviously destroyed every single
- 15:45Speaker 5: thing in my garage. Damn my hunting gear, my waiters, everything.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I saw on the Hiking Bozeman facebook group
- 15:52Speaker 2: the other day that someone had a marmot under their
- 15:54Speaker 2: vehicle at Lava Lake. Maybe Randall, you said you've heard
- 15:58Speaker 2: of porcupine.
- 15:59Speaker 6: You'll get up in there though, for sure.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know what this is. I feel
- 16:05Speaker 3: more confident in my answer if then you wrapped this
- 16:09Speaker 3: in a soft tortilla and in a trademark.
- 16:14Speaker 5: That is.
- 16:19Speaker 2: The Food Network describes this as a flat, crispy corn
- 16:23Speaker 2: tortilla that is typically layered with mashed or refried beans, protein, cheese,
- 16:29Speaker 2: and toppings. Randall nailed it. If this was a Taco
- 16:33Speaker 2: Bell menu question, the crow trap, we're looking for the
- 16:37Speaker 2: latter one crispy cornco there was one.
- 16:40Speaker 7: It has maybe not been on the menu for a while.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Food describes this as a flat crispy corn tortilla that
- 16:50Speaker 2: is typically layered with mashed or refried beans, protein, cheese,
- 16:54Speaker 2: and toppings. M M, what stuff in your garage? Did
- 17:01Speaker 2: that pack rat destroy? Tresa?
- 17:03Speaker 5: Oh my my waiters, my fishing net, damn my all
- 17:09Speaker 5: my hunting clothes.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Who killed that? Eventually, didn't Steve try to go trapping?
- 17:14Speaker 5: Yeah, he did give me some ideas, but my boyfriend
- 17:17Speaker 5: didn't want to kill it, so he we saved it
- 17:21Speaker 5: and he drove it up to highlight and brought some vegetables.
- 17:24Speaker 2: And that's great for someone else to take.
- 17:28Speaker 5: It home, and he took a video of it. Well,
- 17:30Speaker 5: we read that they can travel. I think like I
- 17:32Speaker 5: could be completely lyned, but like thirteen or thirty miles
- 17:36Speaker 5: after where it was wow, and so he drove it
- 17:39Speaker 5: up to highlight and released it it.
- 17:42Speaker 4: It probably got smashed on the road going back to
- 17:44Speaker 4: your house.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Before he brought it home.
- 17:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm still finding stuff that it destroyed. And it
- 17:53Speaker 5: ate like everything in our kayak, like the seat and everything,
- 17:58Speaker 5: ate everything.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Yeah, and whole terrible. Yeah again, we're on question for
- 18:03Speaker 2: the topic is cooking a flat crispy corn tortilla that
- 18:06Speaker 2: is typically layered with mashed or refried beans, protein, cheese,
- 18:10Speaker 2: and toppings. Is everybody ready? Four of them? Go ahead
- 18:15Speaker 2: and reveal your answers. We have Junzi saying, what's that say?
- 18:21Speaker 2: Tresa says Indian fry bread, Randall says tostada. Cory tostada, Logan,
- 18:27Speaker 2: gorditarody uta. The correct answer is toastada. Randall and Cory
- 18:36Speaker 2: got that one right. Tostada means toasted in Spanish and
- 18:40Speaker 2: refers to flat tortillas that are toasted or fried. Wade
- 18:44Speaker 2: Trunk calls them quote essentially an open faced hard taco.
- 18:48Speaker 2: For a tostata recipe, go check out wades recipe on
- 18:51Speaker 2: the meadeater dot com called turkey, tostada.
- 18:53Speaker 4: What's a flow?
- 18:54Speaker 1: Yeah, and tortoise sandwich.
- 19:01Speaker 2: There you go.
- 19:02Speaker 5: Indian fibred is the same thing. It's just soft.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Question five. The Florida Museum of Natural History list nicknames
- 19:14Speaker 2: for this fish as puppy, drum channel, bass, and spottail.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Brody already has his answer. The Florida Museum of Natural
- 19:24Speaker 2: History list nicknames for this fish as puffy, drum channel, bass,
- 19:29Speaker 2: and spottail. Randall has now joined him with an answer.
- 19:35Speaker 2: M hm and Corey, Corey, do you have this one right?
- 19:38Speaker 1: Maybe? I bet you know it. I bet you know it.
- 19:43Speaker 2: The Florida Museum of Natural History listen nicknames for this
- 19:47Speaker 2: fish as puppy, drum, channel, bass, and spottail.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Never heard any of those.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Randall knows it, Corey knows it.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Maybe I think I know it.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Brody knows it.
- 20:03Speaker 1: I'll be disappointed.
- 20:04Speaker 6: I'm glad Randall's confident in my answer.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Oh I didn't see your answer.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Actually, I just thought I was confident in you.
- 20:11Speaker 2: That's something.
- 20:13Speaker 3: But I was also confident in porcupine, and look how
- 20:16Speaker 3: that turned out.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Florida Museum of Natural History listen nicknames for this fish
- 20:21Speaker 2: as puppy, drum channel, bass and spot tail. Which part is?
- 20:25Speaker 7: I think I know what it is?
- 20:28Speaker 2: Picture it.
- 20:29Speaker 7: Word's not coming to my head.
- 20:31Speaker 8: Yeah, Randall, I hadn't seen that same photo with like
- 20:33Speaker 8: the tarts under it, Like I could have sworn me
- 20:35Speaker 8: to wrote an article on that a long time ago.
- 20:39Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:39Speaker 3: I know someone who had a porcupine beat the radiator
- 20:43Speaker 3: hose and stranded.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Do you have to go get him?
- 20:47Speaker 3: But no, no, no, I wasn't anywhere near this incident.
- 20:50Speaker 2: King King's Canyon they have signage, they have an entire
- 20:53Speaker 2: article on their website.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Well, how did I not know that?
- 20:56Speaker 2: That's right? Have you Bendy Kings Canyon?
- 21:00Speaker 1: I have?
- 21:01Speaker 3: But I we're hiking part of the John Muir Trail.
- 21:05Speaker 1: So we came.
- 21:06Speaker 3: We came from the Bishops side and then hiked through
- 21:10Speaker 3: part of it and then out.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Okay, some National forests unique route.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Yeah, you know backpacking.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Does everybody have an answer for what a puppy drum
- 21:20Speaker 2: channel bass and spot tail refers? To go ahead and
- 21:24Speaker 2: reveal your answers. We have HANSI without an answer, Tressa says, redfish, Randall, redfish, Cory, redfish, Logan, redfish, brody, redfish,
- 21:34Speaker 2: the correct answer is redfish or a red drum.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Un them both just in case red drum.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Some other nicknames include reds, ret reds, bull reds, or
- 21:44Speaker 2: tropical sea bass. The world record was caught near Avon,
- 21:48Speaker 2: North Carolina in nineteen eighty four. It weighed ninety four
- 21:51Speaker 2: pounds geese. Whoa, So we're halfway through the game of trivia.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Give us a scoreboard update.
- 21:58Speaker 9: Pretty good game we got going on, Hallnsei, Treessa, and Logan.
- 22:02Speaker 9: I'll have one point, Corey has two, and Randall and
- 22:06Speaker 9: Brody are tight up in first place with three points.
- 22:08Speaker 2: APIs tough rounds so far, jeez. Question six the topic
- 22:16Speaker 2: is conservation. This next great question is via eli laser.
- 22:21Speaker 2: What river has a dam on it that's named after
- 22:24Speaker 2: America's thirty first president?
- 22:27Speaker 1: Hmmmm wow, so we're.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Looking for the river here. What river has a dam
- 22:34Speaker 2: on it that's named after America's thirty first president? Randall
- 22:39Speaker 2: very quick to answer. Brody just joined him with an answer.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Do you think you know the thirty first president? Randall?
- 22:47Speaker 2: Is that what gave it away? Or was it?
- 22:49Speaker 1: No?
- 22:49Speaker 2: Ok?
- 22:51Speaker 3: I was about to count backwards in my head, and
- 22:53Speaker 3: then I remembered humiliating myself.
- 22:55Speaker 2: That did happen last year or so when I answered
- 22:59Speaker 2: and that that question was far near.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Instead of Ford.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Yeah, so I was like, I'm just going to stumble
- 23:05Speaker 3: and make a fool of myself again on this program.
- 23:09Speaker 2: River has a damn on it that's named after America's
- 23:13Speaker 2: thirty first president. So again the name of the river, Corey,
- 23:18Speaker 2: do you have this one right? Man?
- 23:19Speaker 6: I sure hope.
- 23:20Speaker 5: So.
- 23:20Speaker 8: Oh, I'm just studying my presidents, Like there's enough questions
- 23:28Speaker 8: that are related to presidents where and if I knew
- 23:30Speaker 8: all of them, I could maybe be more successful.
- 23:32Speaker 2: And to be clear, the damn is named after the president,
- 23:35Speaker 2: not the river.
- 23:37Speaker 4: Everybody shouldn't that.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Yeah, well that was in the question. I could see
- 23:42Speaker 2: that someone being confused.
- 23:44Speaker 3: It would be weird if we're still naming rivers when
- 23:47Speaker 3: we had a thirty first president.
- 23:50Speaker 2: That's a good point.
- 23:51Speaker 1: I don't think, guys be a little weird.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Is everybody ready go ahead and reveal your answers? We
- 23:59Speaker 2: have HANSI said Colorado, Tresa, Madison, Randall and Corey say Colorado.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Logan says the name of the dam which is Hoover dam.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Hey Brody says Colorado. The correct answer is the Colorado River.
- 24:14Speaker 2: In the design phase of the dam, it was referred
- 24:17Speaker 2: to as Boulder Canyon Dam, Boulder Dam, and Black Canyon
- 24:21Speaker 2: Dam before settling on Hoover Dam, which is named after
- 24:25Speaker 2: Herbert Hoover. At seven hundred and twenty six feet tall,
- 24:28Speaker 2: it's only second to Orville Dam on California's Feather River.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Question seven, the topic is hunting. Snoopy is this kind
- 24:38Speaker 2: of dog, which AKC describes as quote, an excellent hunting
- 24:43Speaker 2: dog and loyal companion. Brody very quick to answer, Snoopy
- 24:49Speaker 2: is this kind of dog which AKC describes as an
- 24:53Speaker 2: excellent hunting dog and loyal companion. Randall has now joined him.
- 25:00Speaker 2: I think I have this right, Brody, very confident, cool dog.
- 25:07Speaker 1: When when was the Hoover Dam built?
- 25:11Speaker 2: I think it was when Hoover was in office, So
- 25:16Speaker 2: I don't know when that would have been.
- 25:17Speaker 4: Really, I bet you it was before heard it was.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Okay, Hoover Dam was built in nineteen thirty one.
- 25:28Speaker 4: That would have been during the New Deal.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Herbert Hoover. Hoover was president from nineteen twenty nine to
- 25:34Speaker 2: nineteen thirty three. When he was in office. Again, we're
- 25:38Speaker 2: on question seven, Snoopy is this kind of dog, which
- 25:42Speaker 2: AKC describes as an excellent hunting dog and loyal companion.
- 25:47Speaker 6: I got a question for you.
- 25:48Speaker 2: What's that?
- 25:49Speaker 6: Do you want it to be really specific?
- 25:51Speaker 5: Like?
- 25:51Speaker 3: Can I just say it?
- 25:52Speaker 9: Lab?
- 25:53Speaker 1: I have to be specific.
- 25:55Speaker 2: I shouldn't ask. Oh jeez, is everybody ready?
- 26:01Speaker 5: No?
- 26:01Speaker 4: Hold on, don't let that new question?
- 26:06Speaker 2: This kind of which AKC describes as an excellent hunting
- 26:11Speaker 2: dog and loyal companion. Hansei, do you have this one right?
- 26:17Speaker 2: And between two? And I'm fifty to fifty on it?
- 26:19Speaker 2: So what else could he be? Is everybody ready? Go
- 26:23Speaker 2: ahead and reveal your answers? We have Hansey saying Springer Spaniel,
- 26:28Speaker 2: Tresti as Dalmatian, Randall Beagle, Cory Beagle, Logan Beagle, Brody Beagle.
- 26:35Speaker 2: The correct answer is a Beagley. Four of our players
- 26:41Speaker 2: got that one right? Is that what you were torn between?
- 26:43Speaker 2: Haze Beagles were bred to haunt a variety of small game,
- 26:47Speaker 2: but are primarily known for pursuing rabbits. The only hunting
- 26:51Speaker 2: Snoopy ever did was for Truffles, which take place which
- 26:54Speaker 2: takes place in a Peanuts comic strip from nineteen seventy five.
- 26:58Speaker 2: In that scene, Snoopy refers to himself as the world
- 27:01Speaker 2: famous truffle Hound. Him and Linus instead only find a
- 27:05Speaker 2: girl named Truffles, who they then compete for the affection
- 27:09Speaker 2: of Snoopy.
- 27:10Speaker 4: Shirt didn't sound like a beagle like Jack.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Sorry, that's a non sequitor.
- 27:17Speaker 2: What did he sound like?
- 27:18Speaker 4: We had that real whiney squeally.
- 27:21Speaker 2: It seems bagley to me. Ye kindling wrong. Question eight.
- 27:28Speaker 2: The topic is woodsmanship. This seven letter word is defined
- 27:34Speaker 2: as quote, a small steep waterfall, especially one of a series.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Rodine Randall you already know this one again? This is
- 27:46Speaker 2: question eight. The topic is woodsmanship. This seven letter word
- 27:50Speaker 2: is defined as a small steep waterfall, especially one of
- 27:54Speaker 2: a series tons. Do you have this one right? Maybe
- 27:58Speaker 2: seven letters having ladders right? And do you have this
- 28:04Speaker 2: one right? Potentially tell me about this beagle named Jack.
- 28:08Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, I was gonna. I was trying to decide
- 28:12Speaker 3: whether it entered Jack to fall up with that story,
- 28:15Speaker 3: because otherwise it'd just be weird if I listed out
- 28:18Speaker 3: dogs that I know by name and then we did it.
- 28:20Speaker 1: That Jack lived to be seventeen years old.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Damn wow.
- 28:23Speaker 3: He died very recently actually, and the very first buck
- 28:28Speaker 3: eye shot. I have a photo of me and Jack
- 28:30Speaker 3: in the back of my pickup truck named Black Thunder.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Very good, but he was a good man. He got
- 28:36Speaker 1: skunked a lot, but he liked to.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Chase skunked a lot. Is sprayed by skunks.
- 28:40Speaker 3: Yes, yes, he liked to chase deer and he liked
- 28:43Speaker 3: to ball just.
- 28:46Speaker 2: It's pretty good.
- 28:47Speaker 3: Kind of became an asshole in his old age.
- 28:49Speaker 1: He started biting things. He was blind.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Snoopy doesn't really look like a beagle, but I don't
- 28:53Speaker 2: know what he looks like instead of a beagle.
- 28:55Speaker 1: That's That's sort of how I arrived at my answer.
- 28:58Speaker 8: On the topic of skunks, Like these gunks hanging on
- 29:01Speaker 8: the wall, here are those like trapped?
- 29:03Speaker 1: And how do you get.
- 29:04Speaker 8: Around the scent glands?
- 29:06Speaker 4: You gotta be real careful. I was with Steve when
- 29:08Speaker 4: we got one. Holy shit, Yeah, like that stuff got everywhere.
- 29:15Speaker 4: Like we had some beaver meat sitting like ten feet
- 29:18Speaker 4: from the skunk he was skinning, and the beaver meat
- 29:21Speaker 4: tasted like.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Oh my god, wow, that's crazy. Yeah, we ate when
- 29:25Speaker 2: I'm pardon my plate. We had two to pick from,
- 29:29Speaker 2: one sprayed when it died, the other one did not,
- 29:31Speaker 2: and so I had skinned them both. The one that
- 29:34Speaker 2: sprayed that never a chance. There's no no way we're
- 29:37Speaker 2: gonna eat this. This meat is totally toxic. So we
- 29:41Speaker 2: ate the one that did not spray and still tasted
- 29:43Speaker 2: like skunk. So don't recommend bringing that home again. We're
- 29:49Speaker 2: on question eight. The seven letter word is defined as
- 29:51Speaker 2: a small steep waterfall, especially one of a series. Is
- 29:55Speaker 2: everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 30:00Speaker 2: Hansei saying cascade, Tressa says springs, Randall and Corey and
- 30:05Speaker 2: Logan and Brody say cascade. They got it. The correct
- 30:09Speaker 2: answer is cascade. The word cascade comes from the French
- 30:13Speaker 2: verb cascader, which has basically the same definition. Cascades are
- 30:17Speaker 2: usually made up of a series of smaller falls, rather
- 30:20Speaker 2: than a single large plunge of water. Bill we have
- 30:24Speaker 2: two questions left. Give us a leaderboard update.
- 30:28Speaker 9: It is down to Cory, who has five points, and
- 30:32Speaker 9: Randall and Brody who have six points. Hansi and Logan
- 30:36Speaker 9: have three in Tressa has one Marmots.
- 30:38Speaker 2: Question nine the topic is fishing. This next great question
- 30:42Speaker 2: is via Clintey. This company created the world's first motorized
- 30:48Speaker 2: fish shack, which they say is the quote ice fishing
- 30:52Speaker 2: dream machine. Ooh, this company created the world's first motorized fishack,
- 31:01Speaker 2: which they say is the ice fishing dream machine. Our
- 31:04Speaker 2: players are stumped. Hansei now has an answer because I okay, yeah,
- 31:10Speaker 2: he's not confident. Answer. This company created the world's first
- 31:14Speaker 2: motorized fisheck, which they say is the ice fishing dream machine.
- 31:20Speaker 2: I feel like I can see our players can picture
- 31:23Speaker 2: what this is, but don't know what it's called. This
- 31:30Speaker 2: is question nine. This company created the world's first motorized fishack,
- 31:37Speaker 2: which they say is the ice fishing dream machine. This
- 31:41Speaker 2: could be a zero percenter When did this happen? Not
- 31:45Speaker 2: going to give you any hints that would bring us
- 31:48Speaker 2: to two zero percenters in this episode, Question one and
- 31:52Speaker 2: question nine. If nobody can come up with this answer,
- 31:58Speaker 2: This company created the world's first motorized fishek, which they
- 32:03Speaker 2: say is the ice fishing dream machine.
- 32:06Speaker 9: Correy, would you like to clarify what you're doing on
- 32:08Speaker 9: your phone so the Internet doesn't yell at you for
- 32:10Speaker 9: cheating them.
- 32:10Speaker 6: I'm texting my wife right now.
- 32:12Speaker 4: Seems important?
- 32:12Speaker 10: Okay, she definitely wouldn't know this, so don't worry again.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Randall and Brody do not like their answers or don't
- 32:22Speaker 2: have an answer, don't like it, don't like it? Brody,
- 32:25Speaker 2: do you like your answer? No?
- 32:26Speaker 6: Not really?
- 32:27Speaker 1: Okay?
- 32:29Speaker 2: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 32:33Speaker 2: have Hansy saying polar tressa without an answer. Randall says skidoo.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Corey says beaver damn mobile Logan Eskimo, Brody Eskimo. Nobody
- 32:45Speaker 2: got it. The correct answer is snow Bear, never be
- 32:51Speaker 2: no Bear. The company was created in two thousand and
- 32:55Speaker 2: five by Tom Lichen in his West Fargo garage. The
- 32:59Speaker 2: snow Bear, created like a bus, is shaped like a
- 33:02Speaker 2: bus and rides on its patented max track system. When
- 33:06Speaker 2: you park it, the hydraulic lift will lower the machine
- 33:09Speaker 2: twelve inches to place you on the ice. Their website
- 33:12Speaker 2: doesn't list a price, but a South Dakota dealership just
- 33:15Speaker 2: sold a twenty twenty three model for does anyone want
- 33:18Speaker 2: to guess? Make some guess?
- 33:20Speaker 6: Thirty five higher, sixty.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Higher, one hundred twenty three thousand dollars.
- 33:27Speaker 1: So I was gonna say one hundred and twenty four
- 33:30Speaker 1: is too high?
- 33:31Speaker 2: One hundred and twenty three thousand dollars that are in
- 33:33Speaker 2: South Dakota.
- 33:34Speaker 4: I don't think you should be surprised that that was
- 33:36Speaker 4: a zero percenter spencer.
- 33:37Speaker 1: That's why I.
- 33:39Speaker 10: Thought on someone could have gotten that Steve was in
- 33:41Speaker 10: one in episode where they.
- 33:43Speaker 6: Went ice fishing. Didn't Jay Semens j Semens.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Chester's Falling Conzie probably edited that episode.
- 33:49Speaker 3: I did not.
- 33:51Speaker 6: I did not.
- 33:52Speaker 2: Yah, we don't need a scoreboard update. We have fit
- 33:55Speaker 2: or excuse me. We have Randall and Brody with six
- 33:58Speaker 2: and Corey with going into question ten. The topic is cooking,
- 34:04Speaker 2: oh Hawk Carl, which is fermented shark is considered a
- 34:09Speaker 2: national dish of this country.
- 34:11Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Corey knows this one, and he would need Randall and
- 34:16Speaker 2: Brody to get this one wrong to go to overtime
- 34:21Speaker 2: with them. I've had it. Hot Carl, which is fermented shark,
- 34:26Speaker 2: is considered a national dish of this country. We have
- 34:29Speaker 2: Corey handing out hints. He says he's been there and
- 34:32Speaker 2: he's eaten.
- 34:33Speaker 6: I can't imagine that's going to help you out. Pretty
- 34:36Speaker 6: sheltered Montana boy.
- 34:38Speaker 9: Hmmm, I haven't updated the tiebreaker sound yet.
- 34:41Speaker 2: I apologize hat Carl, which is fermented shark is considered
- 34:47Speaker 2: a national dish of this country. Corey, be prepared to
- 34:51Speaker 2: give us a review of this food after we reveal
- 34:55Speaker 2: the answer.
- 34:55Speaker 10: Yeah, And I had to look at the look at
- 34:57Speaker 10: the screen because I thought you said, hot Carl, what
- 35:03Speaker 10: do you call that? A?
- 35:04Speaker 2: What's what kind of a? Is that? This?
- 35:09Speaker 1: This type?
- 35:09Speaker 4: This type that I normally use for trivia?
- 35:11Speaker 9: I can't do ac. I had to change it to
- 35:13Speaker 9: a different front. H A K A R L.
- 35:16Speaker 2: Carl, which is fermented shark, is considered a national dish
- 35:22Speaker 2: of this country. Randall, do you have a narrow down
- 35:26Speaker 2: to a few countries?
- 35:29Speaker 9: I do?
- 35:29Speaker 2: Have you thought about where Corey may have been? I have? Okay,
- 35:33Speaker 2: is that helping you?
- 35:35Speaker 4: What's your last name again, Corey Carl? Yeah, hot Carl.
- 35:44Speaker 1: I'm just joking.
- 35:44Speaker 3: I know you're I think the only I think the
- 35:47Speaker 3: only real No, I don't even want to say.
- 35:49Speaker 2: That hawk Carl, which is fermented shark, is considered a
- 35:54Speaker 2: national dish of this country. HANSI, do you have this
- 35:59Speaker 2: one right? Have you eaten this before?
- 36:01Speaker 9: No?
- 36:02Speaker 2: I would all right, well we'll see what we'll see
- 36:05Speaker 2: what Corey has Like.
- 36:06Speaker 9: Almost every travel show that goes to this country.
- 36:10Speaker 2: Another you got Brody has flops down his whiteboard. It's
- 36:23Speaker 2: everybody ready, I don't I think we had Randall flash
- 36:27Speaker 2: his whiteboard to Corey, and Corey sort of yeah, go
- 36:33Speaker 2: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Hansey saying Iceland,
- 36:37Speaker 2: Tresse Australia, Randall Iceland, Corey Iceland, Logan Iceland, Brody Norway.
- 36:46Speaker 2: The correct answer is Iceland, making Randall our winner. With
- 36:51Speaker 2: seven correct answers, could I help you out with that one?
- 36:54Speaker 1: You didn't know.
- 36:56Speaker 3: The biggest The biggest tell for me was the a
- 37:00Speaker 3: with the with the diacritical mark of whatever that's called H.
- 37:05Speaker 3: I figured it was a Scandinavian country. I thought, I
- 37:09Speaker 3: remember you saying at some point you've been to Ice.
- 37:11Speaker 2: On media to radio, we talked about our coolest camping spots.
- 37:14Speaker 2: Didn't you talk about Iceland?
- 37:16Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 37:16Speaker 3: Yeah, And then when we talked about travel shows going
- 37:19Speaker 3: to this country.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Goodness.
- 37:21Speaker 3: Also, I can say this because I'm Norwegian. I just
- 37:25Speaker 3: figured like, if it was Norwegian, it was also Swedish.
- 37:28Speaker 3: I feel like those are two close together. But I
- 37:30Speaker 3: figured it was in that general realm of things, and
- 37:32Speaker 3: I'm Norwegian.
- 37:33Speaker 2: I never heard of the qualifier. Yeah. Howcar is sometimes
- 37:37Speaker 2: referred to as shark because it's fermentation process lasts for
- 37:42Speaker 2: five months. It's made of greenland shark and often served
- 37:45Speaker 2: on toothpicks. It's customary to take a shot of alcohol
- 37:49Speaker 2: afterwards to chase down the cheesy, fishy taste of the
- 37:52Speaker 2: shark cory. How was it?
- 37:54Speaker 10: It's disgusting, putrefied. Yeah, and they want you to Ideally
- 37:59Speaker 10: you chase it down with vodka, a local vodka called
- 38:02Speaker 10: black Death, so you could.
- 38:04Speaker 2: Imagine what that. Okay, did you go back for seconds?
- 38:07Speaker 1: Yes? You did.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Oh good on you.
- 38:10Speaker 6: It was pretty bad, but mainly because I wanted that second.
- 38:16Speaker 1: It's pretty round.
- 38:17Speaker 6: I had to pinch my nose.
- 38:18Speaker 3: Like a marmot and radiator.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Fluid Randall gets to choose where the five hundred dollars
