- 0:51Speaker 1: A b Hey, a'll welcome this week's show. We're going
- 1:03to continue today talking about the Eucharist, and we'll get
- 1:07into the effects of Holy communion. As Father Sipiago called it,
- 1:14very very interesting. Again, this is basically the main thing
- 1:19that differentiates Catholics from Protestants, all right, I mean, Jesus
- 1:23said over and over unless you eat of my body
- 1:27and drink of my blood, you have no life in you.
- 1:29You must eat. You know, the Greek is actually gnall
- 1:32my flesh. I mean. Protestants don't believe in the real
- 1:36presence of the Eucharist, even though Martin Luther did. Even
- 1:39though the Anglican Church has for the most part taught
- 1:44the real presence not always, and certainly cannot say that
- 1:49anymore about the majority of their vicars or whatever they
- 1:56want to call themselves. The Catholic Church is the only church,
- 2:01and the Orthodox because of our relationship to the Orthodox Church.
- 2:05They were also their churches were established by the apostles
- 2:10and their ministers whatever you want to call them. Their
- 2:13priests I guess, are in the Apostolic succession, so they
- 2:16do have valid sacraments to some extent. Not all Orthodox
- 2:22churches maintained Apostolic succession during the occupation by the Muslims.
- 2:31What was that. I don't even know three four thousand
- 2:34years ago, I mean, when they were on the Muslim
- 2:36caliph or under the Soviets. But some do, and so
- 2:42we pretty much say that, you know, Orthodox sacraments are valid,
- 2:47but it's not my place to judge, not my place
- 2:50to call. I leave that up to the Pope and
- 2:52the bishops and the cardinals, you know, I'll leave that
- 2:55up with the Vatican. But no Protestant Church as the
- 3:01power given by Christ to his apostles to turn bread
- 3:05and wine into his body and blood. Therefore, now this
- 3:10is really where it gets pretty tricky here. It's where
- 3:12it gets a little touchy. Jesus said, if you love me,
- 3:16you will keep my commandments. He said, you must eat
- 3:19my body and drink my blood, you know. Is that
- 3:25why it? Also? He also said in the Bible, I
- 3:29don't have the verse right in front of me. Many
- 3:31will say, Lord Lord, do we not prophesy in your name?
- 3:34Do we not cast out demons? Et cetera? And he
- 3:36will say, I do not know. You be gone from me, evildoers.
- 3:43I don't know. Protestant cheech that faith is salvations through
- 3:49faith alone. Faith is all that is necessary. Jesus never
- 3:52said that at all. Martin Luther admitted boasted of changing
- 3:58the words of God to say that to fit his
- 4:01false doctrine. Jesus said faith and works. Well, the works
- 4:07you can do or guess charity, of course, but even
- 4:10more importantly, the sacraments. Works would also include prayer and
- 4:15reading the Bible. But remember there wasn't a Bible for
- 4:17about the first four hundred years of the church. There
- 4:20was the sacraments from day one. His first dictate to
- 4:26his apostles and disciples was go out and baptize people,
- 4:30kill the sick, and cast out demons, and tell them
- 4:35that the Kingdom of God has come. In other words,
- 4:39announced that the Messiah is there. And really they weren't
- 4:42even really allowed to do that. For the most part.
- 4:46He instructed him to go baptize people, and then there's
- 4:50the annoying of the sick, another Catholic sacrament. Of course,
- 4:54confirmation would not come until after Pentecost. But yeah, faith
- 5:00alone is not enough. The demons believed in Jesus. The
- 5:04demons had full faith in that Jesus was God and
- 5:07knew his power completely the demons he was casting out,
- 5:12they were not saved. Jesus said, if you love me,
- 5:16you will keep my commandments. Jesus commandment, do this in
- 5:20remembrance of Me. So what do we say? It gets
- 5:27real tricky. I mean, God will judge people on what
- 5:30they know and understand. And we've got five hundred years
- 5:32of prize in history here where they taught falsehoods, heresy.
- 5:38Churches that maybe once were in schism are now completely apostate,
- 5:42not even practicing baptism in many of them. You know,
- 5:50the Bible is a book compiled by the Catholic Church,
- 5:54certainly when it comes to the Old Testament, but essentially
- 5:56written the New Testament is written by Catholics for catholic
- 6:01The promises of Jesus in the Bible are for Catholics,
- 6:06the people who are a part of the Kingdom of God,
- 6:08the church he founded, the people who eat His flesh
- 6:10and drink his blood, people who are baptized in the
- 6:13body of Christ. And some Protestants are. But there's not
- 6:18a single church that I know of that abides by
- 6:22the commandment of Jesus that marriage is permanent and divorce
- 6:26is wrong. So you know, when we go back to
- 6:30the old quote by I can't remember which saying it was,
- 6:33you know, fifteen hundred years ago or whatever. Outside of
- 6:39the Catholic Church, there's no salvation. We know God would
- 6:44judge people by what they know and understand and believe.
- 6:47But even Protestant Bibles, which are false Bibles, which are
- 6:52counterfeit bibles where the words of Jesus have been changed,
- 6:56entire books cut out to fit false, heretical, really satanic
- 7:01doctrine in many cases. And I mean, I you know
- 7:04you can challenge me on that, but let's talk about
- 7:06divorce for a while. You know, Satan attacks the family
- 7:10above all, because that's the foundation of humanity, and the
- 7:15heart of the Church is the family. Yeah, I'm telling
- 7:22you the promises of the Bible are for Catholics. They're
- 7:27not for anybody who picks up the Bible and just
- 7:29starts reading it and or who watched the Billy Graham
- 7:34crusade and praise the prayer. You know, I believe in
- 7:40Jesus Christ, my Savior, invites you to come into my
- 7:43heart to hold the bit Those words aren't in the
- 7:45Bible at all. What is in the Bible is don't
- 7:49get divorce, follow my commandments, eat my flesh and drink
- 7:53my blood. Be baptized in the name of the Father
- 7:56and the Son in the Holy Spirit. If a man
- 8:01will not obey the church, let him beat to you
- 8:03as a heathen. Which church? When now we got fifty
- 8:06thousand pro denominations, all of which disagree with each other,
- 8:10and each one disagrees with the Catholic Church. Which church
- 8:12you're supposed to listen to? Well, you know it might
- 8:14be the one that Jesus founded. When he said, thou
- 8:17art Peter, meaning the Rock, he changed Simon's name to
- 8:21Peter or Cephus in the Aramaic, he spoke, and upon
- 8:25this rock I will build my church, And the gates
- 8:27of Hell will not prevail against. What you bind on
- 8:29earth will be bound in heaven. Which you loose on
- 8:32earth would be loose in heaven. I give you the
- 8:34keys of the Kingdom. How more explicit can you be?
- 8:39Jesus at no point says anybody who picks up this Bible,
- 8:42go out and start your own church and call yourself apostle.
- 8:45John Smith never once, Jesus never says every word in
- 8:51this book is meant to for whomever reads it. No,
- 8:56he's actually talking to twelve specific apostles. She talking to
- 9:00like seventy some disciples. When the Angel Gabriel appears to
- 9:05the blessed Virgin Mary, that's the Angel talking to one
- 9:08person for instance. Okay, ask a Protestant. Okay, So when
- 9:14the Angel said to Sarah that she would bear a
- 9:17child and essentially to Elizabeth as well after menopause, and
- 9:22they thought it was ridiculous, and then they had their children,
- 9:28do you think that's a promise specifically to that person
- 9:31or to you? When you pick up the Bible and
- 9:33read it, does it say that God's going to give
- 9:34you a child ten twenty years after menopause? And they'd say, no,
- 9:39that's ridiculous. Okay, Well, why do you presume that to
- 9:43the promises that were given to the apostles are promised
- 9:47to you when you're not even a member of the
- 9:50church that Jesus founded, much less that, consider that out
- 9:55of the entire population of the world, Jesus childe twelve people,
- 10:01twelve one of which he knew would betray him and
- 10:05his office would then be filled by another, but twelve
- 10:08people who had the power to ordain priests who had
- 10:13the power to He instructed them. He commanded them to
- 10:18listen to people's confessions and forgive their sins. Those who
- 10:21sins you forgive, they're forgiven. Those who sins you retain
- 10:24or retained, I mean that's very important. Retained twelve men
- 10:29given the power of God to forgive sins or not
- 10:32if they thought it'd fit yess. In Gospel John, not
- 10:38only did those twelve apostles have far more power and
- 10:43authority than the Disciples, the seventy some Disciples, but especial
- 10:48among all peoples on earth, millions of people. God spoke
- 10:53to twelve individual people. And now people pick up a
- 10:56Bible and say, I claim this verse and through the
- 11:00power of God, I do whatever. No, it really doesn't
- 11:04work that way. That's the sin of presumption, that's the
- 11:09sin against the Holy Spirit. And the Bible says the
- 11:12sins against the Holy Spirit are unforgivable. Why are they unforgivable? Well,
- 11:17that's because the person has to understand and admit that
- 11:22they're wrong before they can seek forgiveness. So when you've
- 11:26got you know, Martin Luther or Calvin or I mean,
- 11:29you would go on down the list of John Knox,
- 11:32or you know your neighbor Bob that went down the
- 11:35street and he had some religious experience in prison, and
- 11:39now he's going to form his own church for bikers
- 11:43in a storefront or whatever. Right, And he says he
- 11:49the Holy Spirit told him to start a ministry, and yeah,
- 11:53it probably didn't. The Holy Spirit probably did not tell
- 11:57him to start a ministry. His own ego did. And
- 12:00he goes out and teaches his flawed understanding of the
- 12:04Bible at not being Catholic, he cannot understand. If we
- 12:10go through, for instance, the Old Testament, we see that,
- 12:14you know, God speaks to Abraham. Abraham becomes a very
- 12:17unique and special person on earth. Okay, now there was
- 12:21a priest's name Malkisa dec We don't have his history,
- 12:24but we know that Abraham became uniquely chosen by God.
- 12:29And then after that, Abraham's blessing confirmed that conferred that
- 12:35authority and power to subsequent generations. We can see the
- 12:39same thing in Moses uniquely chosen and then Moses confers
- 12:44his blessing to Oh whatever his name was, the one
- 12:49that built the Golden calf. And then anyway, then the
- 12:53power is transferred to the tribe of the Levites. It's
- 12:56gonna bug me because I'm forgetting that name Aaron. We
- 13:00go Moses an Aaron. So then that power of God
- 13:04is transferred to the Levites, not to any other tribe
- 13:08in Israel. In fact, when others came forward and tried
- 13:11to claim that God struck him dead, the earth swallowed
- 13:13of them and their whole families up. Bad stuff. Right,
- 13:16You don't claim to be a priest unless you're a priest.
- 13:20And you know, I don't even know what a minister
- 13:23or a pastor is. I mean, I mean, that's not
- 13:26even you know, there's no way they have any claim
- 13:32to be able to turn bread and wine too the
- 13:33body and blood of Christ. Yes, I know, it's a language.
- 13:37And a priest can be a pastor, a priest can
- 13:39be a minister. But anyway, after Luther and the denial
- 13:43of the priesthood, they kept call they stopped calling themselves
- 13:46priests for the most part, they picked other words, which
- 13:50basically showed their diminished capacity. But anyway, I mean, Luther
- 13:55accused Jesus of adultery. I mean, you know what, did
- 13:59he know nothing? He was an Antichrist. He was actually
- 14:03a very, very evil man, and Calvin was maybe even worse.
- 14:07But anyway, we'll get into that another day. I mean,
- 14:10these are not just heretics, these are apostates. These are
- 14:14antichrists who literally encourage murder and adultery and divorce and
- 14:21theft and lying. I mean everything you would think the
- 14:24devil would do. Martin Luther did it. But anyway, so
- 14:29the earth swallowed up those who claim to be priests
- 14:32in the order of you know, Moses and Abraham. Really
- 14:36they were going back to Abraham and saying, you know,
- 14:38we have the promises of our ancestor Abraham, and God said, no,
- 14:41you don't be struck. Them dead and their whole families
- 14:44and their servants and their animals and everything pretty bad. Right,
- 14:47But we begin to see in the Old Testament that
- 14:50when a priest is made a priest, a very special
- 14:53person anoints him, usually with oil. In the case of
- 14:58Elijah and Alicia was prop It's not necessarily priests, but
- 15:01they had great power, and it was taking his cloak
- 15:04and putting it on the other there's a ceremony, there's
- 15:08a physical action that takes place. Right by the time
- 15:12we get up to the apostles, Jesus picked special men,
- 15:16just like he's picked Abraham, just like he picked Moses.
- 15:19The Holy Spirit comes upon them, says he breathed the
- 15:22Holy Spirit on them. Okay, in Pentecosta, came upon them
- 15:26in visible fire. Then in acts, I mean, I guess what,
- 15:32same chapter, just like twenty verses later, they find they're
- 15:38going out and they're evangelizing and people are getting baptized,
- 15:43and there's a I can't remember the name of the town,
- 15:48but anyway, a lot of people get baptized and become
- 15:51a Christian. So what do they do. They send to
- 15:54the apostles. They send to Saint Peter and a couple
- 15:57others to come down lay their hands on them so
- 16:00that they can receive the Holy Spirit. That's confirmation that
- 16:06in it says in the Bible many places they're anointed.
- 16:09What does anointed mean? Literally, in the ancient languages of
- 16:13the Bible Hebrew, Greek, aramaict, it means applying oil. We
- 16:17know as Catholics that's the sacrament of confirmation, when the
- 16:22Chrism oil is placed on our head. You know, God
- 16:25can pick out one special person and through fire, through
- 16:31you know whatever, through breathing on them, Okay, then they
- 16:35those apostles have the power to transfer to give the
- 16:39Holy Spirit to a Christian through anointing with oil or
- 16:43the laying or the imposition of ants, depending on what
- 16:46translation you want to read. It happened several times in
- 16:49the New Testament. You know. Recently someone said some Protestants
- 16:54said to me, I'm anointed by the Holy Spirit. I said,
- 16:57who anointed you? I'm anointed by the black out of Christ.
- 17:00I said, no, no, that's not how it works. First
- 17:04of all, you're talking about the sacrament of confirmation. And
- 17:06see the Bible being a book written by Catholics for Catholics.
- 17:11Every Catholic would understand that the imposition of hands, especially
- 17:14the application of oil, is the sacrament of confirmation. You're
- 17:18not anointed by anybody. You have no authority in this.
- 17:23You don't have the Holy Spirit in full. If you're baptized,
- 17:27you have a measure of the Holy Spirit. And I
- 17:29hope she is. She never answered, but I said, unless
- 17:32you're confirmed by a Catholic priest in the Catholic Church,
- 17:35you do not have the fullness of the Holy Spirit anymore.
- 17:39Did those Christians in the Bible in acts where it says,
- 17:42the apostles had to come away, their hands on them,
- 17:46and then they received the Holy Spirit. You don't know
- 17:50what you're talking about, lady, and she considers herself a minister.
- 17:53It didn't go well, But remember the Bible is written
- 17:58by Catholics. For Catholic Protestants have no claim on the
- 18:04unique promises of the Bible. And I don't mean they
- 18:07can't believe in God, they can't find salvation. The more
- 18:12in whine their beliefs are with the teachings of the
- 18:15Catholic Church, the better chance they got. But they don't
- 18:17have the sacraments, the sacraments that were commanded by Jesus Christ,
- 18:22and he said, if you love me, you will keep
- 18:24my sacrament. You will keep my commandments. If you love me,
- 18:27you will keep my commandments. And I always say to them,
- 18:30if you love Jesus, why not just do what he said?
- 18:35Why not say that marriage is a permanent union and
- 18:37can't be dissolved through a secular divorce. And they get
- 18:41insanely angry because most of them have been divorced two
- 18:43or three times, insanely angry. I'm telling them they can't
- 18:47be a Christian if they've been divorced and said, what
- 18:49did Jesus say? What did Jesus say? I mean, he says,
- 18:57when they asked him what they must do to be saved,
- 18:59he said, love God with all your heart. Lived, you
- 19:00neighbor yourself, and keep the commandments. You have heard the commandments.
- 19:04One of those is thou should not commit adultery. In
- 19:07the next four gospels all Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John,
- 19:11he says, absolutely no divorce. You say, Jesus doesn't allow divorce,
- 19:17you're probably you're actually in a state of mortal sin
- 19:21if you've been divorced. I mean, you can go to
- 19:23a Catholic church and be annulled through the power to
- 19:26bind and loose, but only on certain grounds if the
- 19:30priests finds your marriage was not valid. But the priest
- 19:35may well say to you, you know, you can't get
- 19:38married again because you're still bound by the sacrament of marriage.
- 19:43Insanely angry. So what Seventy eighty percent of Protestants have
- 19:47been divorced by the time they hit the age of forty,
- 19:50including most of their ministers. So I mean, that's just
- 19:54like their Protestant Bibles. They can open up any of
- 19:57the first four Gospels and read Nope, divorce not allowed.
- 20:00Divorce not allowed. And you just say, why does your
- 20:03church allow divorce? Well, Jesus said, Moses allowed to the
- 20:07hardest your hearts. And you said yeah. But then he says,
- 20:10and I tell you that's not allowed if you if
- 20:17you okay, basically, if you get divorced and marry again,
- 20:21you're committing adultery. And if your wife marries again, she's
- 20:24committing adultery. If you date a divorced person, you're both
- 20:27committing adultery, even if you've never been married. I mean,
- 20:31you can go through each word, I mean, of all
- 20:35four Testaments. It's like, okay, so now you just admitted
- 20:40your church is apostate. You deny the teachings of Christ.
- 20:45Tell me again, why how it is you're a minister.
- 20:52Were you ordained by a Catholic priest? Were you anointed
- 20:57with the oil in the ordination process? No, they're Protestant.
- 21:03And you say, well, I'm sorry. You're not a minister
- 21:07of God. You're essentially a minister of your own ego.
- 21:12You have no authority. You can't turn bread and wine
- 21:15into the body and blood of Christ. The only sacrament
- 21:19sacraments you can do are are baptism and marriage because
- 21:22they predate the Church. You have no authority to say
- 21:28what the Bible says. And really you're probably doing the
- 21:33work of the devil, not the work of God, no
- 21:35matter how well intention you may be. And I mean
- 21:39it's really difficult, it's super super difficult, but I mean
- 21:46it's the truth. Protestants have no claim on the promises
- 21:52of the Bible except in that God loves everybody and
- 21:57wants them to be saved. And you know, it's really
- 22:05bad and it offends American senses of democracy. We want
- 22:10to say everybody's equal. No, God chose twelve specific people.
- 22:15They were not equal among any by on earth. When
- 22:18you know, going back through the Bible, we picked prophets
- 22:21or kings, they were not equal. He picked specific individuals
- 22:25and gave him specific authorities, powers, and duties. Like it
- 22:31or not. Women cannot be priests because God wills it,
- 22:38like it or not. Protestants cannot enact all but two
- 22:41of the sacraments, like it or not. The Bible is
- 22:45a Catholic book written for Catholics, and Protestants have no
- 22:49claim on the promises of the Bible, and very often
- 22:54the words of Christ were directed towards specific people. I mean,
- 22:59if I wrote down right now, like you know, Bob,
- 23:03I'm going to give you one hundred dollars on Monday.
- 23:06And you know I gave Bob one hundred dollars on Monday.
- 23:09That piece of paper got stuck in a book somewhere
- 23:12I passed away. Someone found it one hundred years later
- 23:15and pulled it out. Would they claim that I was
- 23:18going to give them one hundred dollars on Monday? One,
- 23:21your name's not Bob, Well, two, I'm dead. But obviously,
- 23:26when Jesus says to Simon, now your name's Peter or
- 23:32Cephus in Aramaic, he's speaking to one person. Obviously, the
- 23:37angel Gabriel speaking of one person, he speaks of the
- 23:41blessed Virgin Mary. Obviously, when the Holy Spirit came upon
- 23:44the apostles, he came upon twelve people. Let me ask
- 23:47you this. Protestants say that the Holy Spirit, you know,
- 23:51was equally on all Christians who believe in God. The
- 23:53Bible never says that, first of all, but the in
- 24:00the Acts in that same verse it says they were
- 24:02then able to speak and understand all languages. Have you
- 24:06ever met a Protestant that could speak every language on
- 24:09the face of the earth and understand every language on
- 24:11the face of the earth. No, I don't know of
- 24:14any Catholics that can do that. Now, that was a
- 24:16specific power given to the twelve Apostles, well eleven at
- 24:20that point, and then Matthias specific Have you ever met
- 24:24a Protestant that could raise the dead? In the entire
- 24:28history of Protestantism, has a Protestant minister ever raised a
- 24:33dead person, a truly dead person, Not that I'm aware of.
- 24:39I mean, I'm serious, and I mean I was a Protestant,
- 24:41you know, until I was about twenty five, and I
- 24:44studied and studied and tried to learn. Not only could
- 24:49the Apostles and disciples raise the dead. In the first
- 24:53generation of the Church, just about every Christian could raise
- 24:56the dead. The Catholics, every Catholic could raise the dead,
- 25:01and through the two thousand years, just about I mean,
- 25:04not all, but you know, there are many, many, many
- 25:08instances in the two thousand year history of the Catholic Church.
- 25:14There have been hundreds, if not thousands, of saints who
- 25:18have healed the sick, raised the dead, cast up demons
- 25:21exactly what Jesus said. Find me one Protestant who's ever
- 25:26been documented to have raised a person from the dead
- 25:29who had been dead for you know, a good while,
- 25:32so there was no they weren't just in a coma.
- 25:35They were sure to be dead. Find me one. It's
- 25:41not democratic, but it's the truth. Anyway, Let's get onto radio, replies.
- 25:50The person says, the evidence of Saint Paul is merely hearsay,
- 25:56and the pres answer. Even had Saint Paul seen the
- 25:59risen Christ personally, his evidence would be unreliable. If we
- 26:03demanded that no historians should set down anything ins have
- 26:06written that which he had actually witnessed for himself, very
- 26:09little history would be written. So long as the historians
- 26:13know that the source of the information is reliable, he
- 26:16is free to record his information. Saint Paul did have
- 26:19the testimony a testimony of many and independent eyewitnesses, and
- 26:23would quickly have detected conflict in their accounts. But in
- 26:27addition to the evidence of other eyewitnesses, Saint Paul's personally
- 26:30saw the risen Christ. In Acts nine, he is converted
- 26:33by Christ in person first Corinthians ten five through eight.
- 26:38I guess he writes No. Fifteen verse eight, he writes,
- 26:42and last of all, he was also seen by me,
- 26:45or he was seen also by me First Corinthians nine
- 26:48to one. Have not I seen Christ, our Lord again?
- 26:52First Corinthians eleven twenty three. For I have received of
- 26:55the Lord that which I also delivered to you. Saint
- 26:58Paul could hope to gain nothing in this world or
- 27:02the next. By lying his doctrine led to his martyrdom
- 27:05in this life, and as for the next, he himself
- 27:08taught that God hates liars. Person continues. Saint Matthew speaks
- 27:12of the dead appearing to many at the death of Christ,
- 27:15but fails to give the names of even one of them,
- 27:17or of those who receive such visitations. They answer, Saint
- 27:21Matthew wrote a summary of events concerned with a principal character.
- 27:25If he had to describe in detail all connected with
- 27:28the accessory incidents, he would never be done. The proof
- 27:32that the Gospels as a whole or reliable history covers
- 27:35all these minor incidents. If a reliable historian relates that
- 27:39a man was killed in a street accident, he is
- 27:41describing and with the death of whom he is chiefly concerned.
- 27:44No one reasonably says, I shall believe that man to
- 27:47have been killed only when you give me the names
- 27:49and addresses of every person in the street at that time.
- 27:53The absence of names makes no difference to the fact
- 27:55that many came forth from their tombs. The Saint Matthew
- 27:58records and us why were not such marvelous events as
- 28:02Christ's death amidst amidst preternatural darkness and earthquakes, and his
- 28:09resurrection recorded by the Roman historians of the day. In
- 28:12the answer, Christ lived and died in a remote corner
- 28:15of the Roman world and had caused no political disturbance. Again,
- 28:19the Romans had supreme contempt for the Jews, and reports
- 28:22connected with Jewish religious happenings held very little interest for them.
- 28:27Siu Suitanius mentions Christ briefly in his biography of Claudius.
- 28:33Tacitus speaks of his execution or conscious pilot flegon the
- 28:38freemen of Hadrian records the eclipse of the sun at
- 28:41the death of Jesus Celsius the Pagan Celsus Sorry Celsius,
- 28:46the Pagan philosopher, boasted of much knowledge concerning of the
- 28:49life of Christ, pleading the younger mentions Christ quite clearly
- 28:54together with their doctrines, or Christians with their doctrines, I
- 28:57should say, but again is interested only in the manner
- 29:00in which their existence affected Roman Roman dominion. Josephus, the
- 29:05Jewish historian who was born at Jerusalem about thirty seven AD,
- 29:08records Christ's death on the cross under conscious pilot, and
- 29:12his appearance on the third day after his death to
- 29:14his disciples. And finally the person says Christ was buried
- 29:18on Friday, and roseland Sunday. Where are the three days
- 29:20and nights? This confuses so many Protestants, especially your seven
- 29:24day advents, and they answer, we must take intoccount. The
- 29:29Jewish method of calculation prevalent at the time, the Jews
- 29:32used the expression three days and nights for a period
- 29:35of three daylights in darkness, as opposed to a period
- 29:39of daylight. Only Friday, Saturday and Sunday were three periods
- 29:43of daylight to be taken as including periods of darkness.
- 29:47Whether the periods of darkness were complete or not, the
- 29:49Jews would speak of the whole section of time as
- 29:52three days and three nights. Thus, in the Book of
- 29:54Esther five one, the Jews were told to fast for
- 29:57three days and nights. Yet after two night knights, according
- 30:00to our way of calculating, but in the third period
- 30:03of daylight, the fast ended. All right, Now, let's get
- 30:07on to the Eucharist. We get a sip of water here.
- 30:14Holy communion is a great benefit, both for the soul
- 30:18and the body, the Divine King, says Saint Alfonsis. Alfonsis
- 30:24is accustomedly. Let me try again. The Divine King, says
- 30:28Saint Alphonsis, is a custom to reward royally all those
- 30:33who entertain him well. Holy community acts spiritually as bread
- 30:38and wine act materially. Bread and wine ie material. Food
- 30:42assimilates itself to the body, maintains life, promotes growth, It
- 30:46dispels fatigue and weakness, and imparts strength to the body.
- 30:50Affords a certain satisfaction by pleasing the palate, and influences
- 30:56the mind by the medium of the body. In a
- 30:59similar way, the action of the Holy Communion upon the
- 31:02soul may be described by holy communion. We are united
- 31:06most closely to Christ, our Lord, says he that eateth
- 31:09my flesh and drinketh my blood abideth in me and
- 31:11I in him. Holy communion is, as it were, a
- 31:15continuance of the incarnation. By his incarnation, our Lord unite
- 31:20himself to mankind in general. By holy communion, he unites
- 31:23himself to each individual member of the human race as
- 31:26two peaks of wax when melted or amalgamated with each other.
- 31:30So completely does our Lord make himself one with us
- 31:33in holy communion. He is in us and we are
- 31:35in him. Saint Augustine says that those who receive our
- 31:38Lord frequently assume his nature and are as it were
- 31:42transformed into him. By communion, Christ changes our nature into
- 31:46his own, as leavin changes a quality of flower. There
- 31:50is this difference between the spiritual food we receive in
- 31:52communion and the ordinary food of the body. The latter
- 31:56is less powerful than our nature and is assimilated by it.
- 31:58The former is more powerful, powerful in their nature, and
- 32:01consequently it converts that nature into its own. Our nature
- 32:06is ennobled by a communion, as a wild tree is
- 32:09ennobled by grafting with a cultivated tree. Holy communion also
- 32:14unites us to one another. All Catholics, by means of it,
- 32:16are made into one body, as Saint Paul says, for
- 32:20we being many are one bread, one body, all that
- 32:24partake of one bread one Corinthians ten seventeen. The Fathers
- 32:28speak of communion as the general union of all the
- 32:30faithful in Christ and with one another communist unyo. Hence
- 32:36it is called the sign of unity, the bond of charity,
- 32:39the symbol of concord of the Council Tread. I guess
- 32:42they just say by the Council of Tread. Holy communion
- 32:45imparts actual graces and also maintains an increases sanctifying grace
- 32:49in the soul, and each communion fresh actual graces are
- 32:53obtained that enlighten the understanding and strengthen the will. Holy
- 32:58communion acts like the rising sun, to spelling darkness and
- 33:00bringing light in Park's strength, as did the bread which
- 33:04Elias partook. It's a third kings, I don't know, nineteen
- 33:09or so, and power to withstand temptation and to the
- 33:12practice of virtue. Holy communion gives to the timid the
- 33:16courage of lions. Saint John Christostom says that the devils
- 33:19tremble when they see the lips redden with the blood
- 33:21of Christ. Those who have great trials and sufferings to
- 33:25endure ought to communicate, often to acquire strength It was
- 33:29because early Christians were so cruelly persecuted that they used
- 33:32to fortify themselves so often by receiving Holy communion. Thence
- 33:36they gained courage to confront martyrdom. Whenever they knew that
- 33:40some danger had to be encountered, they approached the holy
- 33:42sacrament of the altar, for they were conscious, conscious that
- 33:47otherwise their force would fail them. Those also, who are
- 33:50exposed to violent temptation ought to communicate often, for Holy
- 33:54communion has more power than had the blood of the
- 33:57pastial lamb sprinkling on the doorsteps to deliver peace people
- 34:00from the destroyer. Holy communion preserves the life of the soul,
- 34:04as bread and wine do that of the body, where
- 34:06it maintains within us, sanctifying grace which gives vitality to
- 34:09the soul. Hence, our Lord says he that eateth me,
- 34:12the same also shall live by me. And again, if
- 34:16any man eat of this bread, he shall not die
- 34:19John six fifty and fifty eight. That is to say,
- 34:22he will not fall into mortal sin and thus destroy
- 34:25the life of the soul. Holy communion is also the
- 34:28means of keeping us from relapse into mortal sins. The
- 34:30antidote against the poison of sin. Those who communicate frequently
- 34:35persevering grace, for where God is often present, the enemy
- 34:38can find no permanent abode. Holy communion also increases sanctifying
- 34:43grace and the soul. And since the degree of felicity
- 34:46we shall enjoy hereafter is dependent on the measure of
- 34:48sanctifying grace we possess here, it follows that holy communion
- 34:52conduces to the augmentation of our eternal happiness. The force
- 34:57of evil concubincance is lef and by holy communion, and
- 35:02we are freed from venial sin by means of concupiscits
- 35:05is the desire, the finding more attractive wrong than right.
- 35:10Put it that way, the tendency towards sin. Physicians ordering
- 35:16order nourishing food for those who are infirmed, that they
- 35:20may gain strength. There is an element of surpassing excellence
- 35:24well calculated, an element of an element. Okay, inverted letters.
- 35:32There there is an element that actually means a food.
- 35:36It's just an old word. You may have heard of
- 35:38the elementary tract. It's an old word for the digestive track,
- 35:43not a word we use much anymore, but in fothers
- 35:45Borago's time. There is an element of surpassing excellence, well
- 35:50calculated to remove spiritual infirmities and in part vigor to
- 35:54the soul. He who communicates frequently will feel less sharply
- 35:59the stimulus of anger, envy, uncleanliness, and other evil propensities.
- 36:03Holy communion quenches the flame of concupiscence. It is the
- 36:07corn of the elect and the wine springing fourth virgins
- 36:12Zachariah nine seventeen. It cleanses us from venial but not
- 36:16from mortal sin, like fire, which consumes wooden straw, but
- 36:19does not burned stone or iron. It is the food
- 36:22and the medicine of the soul. Now, food and medicine
- 36:25are beneficial to the sick, but in no wise to
- 36:27the dead. Therefore, if after commission, therefore, if after confession
- 36:32we commit some venial sin, it is not necessary to
- 36:35go to confession again before approaching Holy communion. But of
- 36:39course you cannot receive the euchroous in a state of
- 36:41mortal sin. That's the difference he's drawing there. Holy communion
- 36:45often affords much refreshment to the soul. The man is
- 36:48said to have a pleasant taste like honey in Holy communion.
- 36:51Saint Thomas Aquina says, we taste sweetness at its true source,
- 36:56and the prayer said before the benediction is given. With
- 36:59the bust sacrament, it is declared to contain in itself
- 37:02all sweetness. That's from wisdom sixteen twenty. The greater the
- 37:06worthiness of the communicant, the greater is the sweetness he
- 37:09experience in Holy communion. But sometimes God withdraws all consolations,
- 37:14even from the saints. True, many saints have written to
- 37:19spirit periods of spiritual dryness. That's what you're talking about there.
- 37:23So Holy communion sanctifies the body and plants in it
- 37:27the germ of future glorious resurrection. The temporal penalties of
- 37:32sin are canceled by Holy communion. According to the measure
- 37:36of our devotion, If those who did but touch the
- 37:39hem of Our Lord's garment were cured of whatever infirmities
- 37:42they labored under, how much more shall we be healed
- 37:46of our spiritual sickness, who have the privilege of receiving
- 37:49Christ into our breasts. Saint Louis Bertrand used to advise
- 37:54the sick to receive Holy communion as the means of
- 37:56recovering bodily health. Our Lord says, he that eath my
- 38:00flesh and drinketh my blood hath eternal life, and I
- 38:02will raise him up at the last day John six
- 38:05fifty five. The body of Christ is the seed of immortality,
- 38:09for our flesh. Communion represents to us the tree of
- 38:12life which stood in the midst of Eden. The graces
- 38:15above named are the portion of those who receive Holy
- 38:18Communion frequently and prepare themselves carefully for it. The best
- 38:22means of learning to receive our Lord will is to
- 38:24receive it often, For in everything it is practice that
- 38:28makes perfect. And I guess we'll wrap it up there. Yeah,
- 38:34for today, got another topic for next week, but we're
- 38:38also talking. We're still talking about the Holy Eucharist and
- 38:43it's preparation for Holy Communion very important. Actually, a lot
- 38:48of confusion these days, especially among cradle Catholics. I'm afraid
- 38:53that Catholic education has failed a great many in our time. Yeah,
- 39:00we'll pick up there, y'all, have a great week, and
- 39:03I'll talk to you next time.
