- 0:31what is going on everybody
- 0:33welcome to lunch with the
- 0:35clients tale it is it is
- 0:38lunchtime uh I've had
- 0:40meetings right up until
- 0:41this point so I am kind of
- 0:43with trained to live uh
- 0:45here's hoping I can stay on
- 0:47and work doesn't get in the way exactly
- 0:50Work almost got in the way, um,
- 0:53of me getting down here in
- 0:54time to launch the show.
- 0:57Uh, so, so glad I could be here.
- 1:00Um, I really just hate when,
- 1:02if you schedule an hour long meeting,
- 1:05have an hour long meeting,
- 1:07don't have an hour and a
- 1:08half long meeting.
- 1:09When you schedule an hour meeting,
- 1:11people make plans.
- 1:13I know that this show is not
- 1:14part of my work day,
- 1:16but I do have a lunch hour
- 1:18that it is on my calendar.
- 1:20that I have a lunch hour and
- 1:22I'm allowed to come down
- 1:23here and do my show on my time,
- 1:26which is my lunch hour, people.
- 1:32I hate it.
- 1:33I hate meetings.
- 1:34I hate meetings, period.
- 1:36I know I've ranted about that a lot,
- 1:37but damn it.
- 1:39Gosh, just let me have my lunch.
- 1:44Um, Craig says,
- 1:45did you read the article
- 1:46published by barbell spin
- 1:47today by Jeanette Watkins
- 1:49titled the research gap in CrossFit,
- 1:51a call for data driven growth growth.
- 1:53It's really good.
- 1:55I did.
- 1:55I just saw it pop up.
- 1:57I have not,
- 1:59I have not messed with or not
- 2:01messed with reading the comments.
- 2:03I have not had time to read it again.
- 2:05I was in a meeting right up until this.
- 2:07Uh,
- 2:08so that'll be something I will read
- 2:09this afternoon.
- 2:11Uh, so can't wait to do that.
- 2:15um because it did it looked
- 2:16good um so I can't wait to
- 2:19check that out uh don't
- 2:23mess with the lunchtime you
- 2:25got it trying to live gets
- 2:27it yeah don't mess with my
- 2:28lunchtime this is my time I
- 2:32give you eight hours I get
- 2:34one in the middle of the
- 2:34day it's just for me
- 2:37What's up, Sarah?
- 2:38Good to have you here.
- 2:39Jody Lynn, always spending time with us.
- 2:45So cool.
- 2:49so cool so uh third twenty
- 2:51five point three is over
- 2:53it's in the books if you
- 2:55did not see some of the
- 2:57stuff on uh the internet
- 2:59today I am going to share
- 3:02this uh real quick so
- 3:05here's the leaderboard this
- 3:07is the final leaderboard
- 3:09for the thirty five to
- 3:10thirty nine year olds
- 3:14There's our very own Carolyn
- 3:15Prevost won the open for
- 3:20the thirty five to thirty nine year olds.
- 3:22And look at the company she's in.
- 3:24Kristen Holta,
- 3:25Emily Rolfe and Carolyn crushed it.
- 3:29Just like you said,
- 3:29Sarah Clydesdale ladies
- 3:32definitely crushed it.
- 3:34Carolyn, if you notice right here,
- 3:37three points, three points.
- 3:41That means if you go across first, first,
- 3:45first,
- 3:47she won all three open workouts in
- 3:50the thirty five to thirty nine.
- 3:52so proud of her.
- 3:54Um, she has,
- 3:55she just had a great open this year.
- 3:58And again, my gosh,
- 3:59you look at some of the
- 3:59names that she beat Andrea Nistler,
- 4:02Caroline Klutz, Stevie Dellinger,
- 4:04all great athletes.
- 4:07Um, yeah.
- 4:11Uh, Craig, Craig says, uh, sweep.
- 4:13She's Canadian.
- 4:14We call that a hat trick, hat trick.
- 4:20Um,
- 4:22Emily is thirty five.
- 4:23Yes, Emily is thirty five.
- 4:25She was the oldest woman in
- 4:27the CrossFit Games field last year.
- 4:32And not a lot of people know that.
- 4:35Because she doesn't come
- 4:36across as someone that is
- 4:38that is thirty five.
- 4:41She looks much younger than that.
- 4:43But she got a late start into CrossFit.
- 4:47If you go back and listen to
- 4:48some of the old interviews
- 4:49we did with her.
- 4:52Yeah,
- 4:52I don't think she started CrossFit
- 4:53until she was like twenty eight.
- 4:56So what she has done since
- 4:57then has been mind blowing
- 5:00to say the least.
- 5:04So, yeah.
- 5:07Um,
- 5:08and then you guys are kind of spoiling
- 5:10it in the chat.
- 5:13Uh,
- 5:15We go to the forty four to
- 5:18forty forty to forty four
- 5:20year old division.
- 5:21And there is Jamie Latimer.
- 5:25She won the forty forty to
- 5:29forty four year old
- 5:30division by a good chunk.
- 5:32Twenty two to thirty eight.
- 5:35You go across to hers a sixth, a fifteenth,
- 5:38and she won the final workout.
- 5:43which is amazing my two
- 5:48co-hosts my two friends um
- 5:52is freaking awesome and uh
- 5:54they are freaking awesome
- 5:56and I'm so privileged to
- 5:57get to hang out with them
- 5:58all the time I'm privileged
- 5:59to call them friends um
- 6:03I am just welling up with
- 6:06pride that those are my
- 6:10friends that killed it that hard.
- 6:17Shout out to them.
- 6:20Shay says,
- 6:21Emily performing at arguably her best.
- 6:23If you actually look at her finishes,
- 6:26she gets better each year she competes,
- 6:29which is
- 6:31And for her to be like the
- 6:33oldest person in the women's field,
- 6:35finish better and better each year, it is,
- 6:40yeah.
- 6:41Yeah.
- 6:42She is so underrated.
- 6:45And I hope she gets her due
- 6:46taking third last year.
- 6:51So there.
- 6:53Awesome job, Jamie.
- 6:55Sarah says,
- 6:56our very own Corey Leonard also
- 6:57crushed it.
- 6:58We'll talk about his
- 6:59performance tomorrow when
- 7:00he's on the show for sure.
- 7:03Craig says,
- 7:03did Rich place first in all the
- 7:05workouts in his division?
- 7:06He did not.
- 7:07He did not even win.
- 7:08I don't even think he fit.
- 7:09He podiumed for the men.
- 7:10If I go to men, men, men, men, men, men,
- 7:11men, men, men, men, men, men, men, men,
- 7:12men, men, men, men, men, men, men, men,
- 7:14men, men, men, men, men, men, men, men,
- 7:15men, men, men, men, men, men, men, men,
- 7:16men, men, men, men, men, men, men, men,
- 7:17men, men, men, men, men, men, men, men,
- 7:18men, men, men, men, men, men, men, men,
- 7:19men, men, men, men, men, men, men, men,
- 7:20men, men, men, men
- 7:22Rich Froning took sixth.
- 7:28So Rich's finish were twentieth,
- 7:30eighteenth, and twentieth.
- 7:34Scott Pancheck was eleventh, eighth,
- 7:36and ninth.
- 7:43So there we go.
- 7:46Yeah, kind of a bit of a surprise there.
- 7:56um a train to live only nine
- 7:57hundred twenty five spots
- 7:58behind jamie let's go uh
- 8:01there you go yeah craig
- 8:04echoing emily is getting
- 8:05better each year she is and
- 8:12then ken says is jamie
- 8:13selling teas again this
- 8:14year I don't know um we
- 8:18will know if she gets to
- 8:20semis and makes the games
- 8:23But if you, yeah,
- 8:26we talked to her a couple
- 8:28weeks ago on the Sunday night show,
- 8:31but her son is a senior in high school,
- 8:34and that is taking
- 8:35precedence this year over competing,
- 8:39which as a parent, I completely,
- 8:41completely understand.
- 8:42Her son will be graduating
- 8:44high school and then moving
- 8:45on to college in the fall.
- 8:47So that stretch from like April,
- 8:50May to August,
- 8:52September is going to be
- 8:53pretty busy for her.
- 8:57And I even think there is a
- 8:59chance that the weekend he
- 9:03has to go to school is the
- 9:05weekend of the CrossFit Games.
- 9:07So she may not be able to
- 9:09make it this year because
- 9:10her priority is her son.
- 9:12But stay tuned.
- 9:14I'm sure we'll update you
- 9:15guys as the season progresses.
- 9:19And we know more
- 9:20definitively when
- 9:22everything kind of plays out.
- 9:28So I wanted to take a quick
- 9:29look at the elite division
- 9:32before we move on.
- 9:37If I go to individual men,
- 9:41Colton Mertens ends up winning the Open.
- 9:45I think if you saw Dave's
- 9:47Week in Review yesterday,
- 9:48he actually totaled up what
- 9:50he won by winning two
- 9:51events and winning the Open.
- 9:54He ended up winning like
- 9:54twenty seven thousand
- 9:56dollars in the Open this year,
- 9:59which is pretty impressive for Colton.
- 10:02Andy won Kale Taylor on Saturday.
- 10:04But donated that money to
- 10:07the kids of the CrossFitter
- 10:10who took his own life.
- 10:13His name is escaping me right now.
- 10:17But a sad story.
- 10:18And yeah.
- 10:23But he donated at fifteen hundred to them.
- 10:27Adalyn Pepper takes second.
- 10:28Jeff Adler takes third.
- 10:30He apparently is still fit.
- 10:32Austin Hatfield fourth.
- 10:34Kale Lehman and Jason Hopper, Jay Crouch,
- 10:37Ricky Garrard,
- 10:38Aldis Upenix and Nicholas
- 10:40Badon round out the top ten.
- 10:46Yeah, Craig, his name was McCoy.
- 10:48He took his own life.
- 10:49He had two children and a
- 10:51wife and they're doing
- 10:54It's not GoFundMe.
- 10:55It's the other account to
- 10:57help support his kids from here on out.
- 11:01And Colton donated the
- 11:03fifteen hundred from Kill Taylor to that,
- 11:06which is that's just the
- 11:07kind of guy Colton is.
- 11:11So pretty good top ten on the men's side,
- 11:13if we flip over to the women.
- 11:17Mira Von Rohr ends up
- 11:18winning by one point over Fisa Goffey.
- 11:22Lucy Campbell takes third.
- 11:24Andrea Solbert takes fourth.
- 11:26Our very own Carolyn Prevost.
- 11:28Not only did she win the
- 11:30thirty five to thirty nine,
- 11:32but she took fifth place overall.
- 11:34Top five in the world.
- 11:36Overall, elite women.
- 11:40which may be even a bigger
- 11:41feat than winning the
- 11:42thirty five to thirty nine
- 11:44with a hat trick clean sweep.
- 11:51Daniel Brandon, six, Kristen Holta,
- 11:53seventh.
- 11:54Again,
- 11:55as a retired athlete coming in
- 11:56seventh in the world is pretty amazing.
- 11:59Aline Wurz took eighth.
- 12:01Oda Lundevem took ninth.
- 12:04Alexis Raptus finished in tenth.
- 12:09That is your top ten on the women's side.
- 12:15So I work out with some or I work out.
- 12:19I have a show with some pretty fit women.
- 12:21It's been fun.
- 12:22I think Jamie finished top
- 12:24one fifty in the world
- 12:25overall as an elite woman
- 12:27to at forty one years old.
- 12:31I guess I can look real quick.
- 12:33It's right around the one fifty mark.
- 12:49The search on this leaderboard is awful.
- 12:54Uh, uh, yeah, Jamie,
- 12:56Jamie finished one in the world, um,
- 13:01overall.
- 13:04So, uh, that's pretty impressive.
- 13:09Uh, and, uh, pulling off that there,
- 13:13she is one.
- 13:18It just looked like that
- 13:19second workout is what got
- 13:20her or she would have been way,
- 13:22way higher on the leaderboard.
- 13:24And we talked about that
- 13:25last week about her cycle
- 13:27rate on the thrusters just
- 13:28seems to be her goat right now.
- 13:32And that's what got her.
- 13:37So,
- 13:39but still an impressive finish in the
- 13:42elite division to finish in
- 13:44the top two hundred at one fifty three.
- 13:49I know a lot of age group
- 13:50athletes were just trying
- 13:51to finish in the top two
- 13:52hundred in their division,
- 13:53but she did that overall
- 13:55and won her division.
- 13:57Man, what amazing,
- 13:58amazing athletes I get to hang out with.
- 14:05Amen.
- 14:06Aaron CrossFit needs to
- 14:07improve the leaderboard for sure.
- 14:13Hells now, Bernice.
- 14:15Awesome.
- 14:15Cut it live.
- 14:16Perfect timing while I wait
- 14:17at a dealership to get my
- 14:18summer tires on.
- 14:21Thank goodness I don't live
- 14:22in a place anymore where I
- 14:23have to get summer and winter tires.
- 14:25That was always a pain in
- 14:27the butt when I lived in
- 14:28the mountains in
- 14:28Pennsylvania because we
- 14:30would have studded tires in
- 14:31the winter and then we had
- 14:34to get those off by a
- 14:35certain date because they
- 14:37destroy the road and then for the summer.
- 14:40So, yeah.
- 14:46Joey says, wait,
- 14:47what's wrong with the leaderboard?
- 14:49What's wrong with the leaderboard?
- 14:50I'm sure there are some
- 14:51scores that are outlandish
- 14:52and that's maybe what
- 14:53they're talking about,
- 14:54but the search ability on
- 14:55this thing is pathetic.
- 14:58Uh,
- 14:59to try to find someone on the leaderboard,
- 15:01you almost have to type the
- 15:02complete name out before
- 15:04they'll pop up as an option.
- 15:06Um, so I don't know who developed it,
- 15:10but it is not easy to
- 15:12search around for certain
- 15:13people to see where they finished.
- 15:19So I wanted to take a brief
- 15:21moment to kind of talk
- 15:24about my open experience.
- 15:26So I did not do the open last year.
- 15:27I was in the hospital with
- 15:28AFib right before the open
- 15:31started last year.
- 15:32So I had to sit out for the
- 15:34first time since two thousand twelve.
- 15:37I've done every open from
- 15:38twenty thirteen to twenty twenty three.
- 15:42And then I sat out last year
- 15:44and was able to jump back in this year.
- 15:48And I was nervous.
- 15:49I was nervous about doing it again.
- 15:52The last couple of years,
- 15:53just due to health issues,
- 15:56I've been doing some
- 15:57foundations workouts in the open.
- 15:59I've been doing a lot of scaled.
- 16:02And so I was really nervous.
- 16:04But this was my first year
- 16:05in the fifty five to fifty
- 16:07nine year old division.
- 16:08So the workouts change a
- 16:10little bit for us this year.
- 16:13And I was able to do two of
- 16:15the three workouts RX.
- 16:17I actually was I could have
- 16:19done all three RX and got
- 16:22and posted a score.
- 16:24But I really wanted to
- 16:25compete against myself on
- 16:26the repeat workout from
- 16:28what I posted in twenty twenty two.
- 16:31So I did it in a scaled way
- 16:33and tried to beat my score.
- 16:37The highest I've ever
- 16:38finished in my division
- 16:41during the Open since I had
- 16:44back surgery was a twelfth percentile.
- 16:51And that ended up being a
- 16:52level one status in the
- 16:55twelfth percentile.
- 16:57This year, after workout two,
- 16:59I was sitting at the
- 17:00sixteenth percentile.
- 17:02Um,
- 17:03so I felt a little bit more pressure on
- 17:05this last workout to really
- 17:07put forth a good effort and
- 17:09to at least keep the
- 17:10sixteenth percentile to
- 17:11keep improving and maybe even improve.
- 17:16Uh, so I went into this workout.
- 17:18I had a plan.
- 17:19I actually did better than my plan.
- 17:21Um,
- 17:21I got a full round further than I
- 17:23thought I would.
- 17:24I almost made it back to the row, uh,
- 17:26as an RX athlete in the
- 17:29fifty five to fifty nine.
- 17:31And I ended up with two wall
- 17:34walks right before that final row.
- 17:39Turns out,
- 17:40I actually improved by four
- 17:42more percent and I finished
- 17:44the open in the twentieth percentile.
- 17:47Um,
- 17:47so I beat my previous best post back
- 17:51surgery by eight percentage points.
- 17:55Um,
- 17:55that is the biggest win I have had
- 17:58athletically, um,
- 18:01doing this sport CrossFit, um,
- 18:06since probably two thousand eighteen.
- 18:09Uh,
- 18:12I have been pretty broken, um, since then.
- 18:15And I felt broken.
- 18:17And this is the first open
- 18:19where I feel like,
- 18:21like I'm starting to come
- 18:23back and starting to feel
- 18:26like an athlete again.
- 18:29Um,
- 18:32I, it means a lot to me.
- 18:34It's a huge win for me.
- 18:36Um, I was telling,
- 18:38I texted with Carolyn and
- 18:40Jamie last night, um,
- 18:42telling them like my
- 18:43feelings of tearing up a little bit.
- 18:47Um, cause when you feel broken,
- 18:49like you just feel helpless.
- 18:51And the fact that like this year, um,
- 18:55since I had was in the
- 18:56hospital with a fib right
- 18:58before last year's open, um,
- 19:01I pretty much quit drinking.
- 19:02I've only had like two or
- 19:03three drinks in the year plus since then.
- 19:08I have really focused on my
- 19:11own health and my wife's health.
- 19:14I've not been doing crazy hard workouts,
- 19:17but just trying to move and
- 19:18trying to get better and really just...
- 19:22not hurting myself so that I
- 19:24can't go back the next day,
- 19:26like being smart about everything.
- 19:29Um, and, uh, really,
- 19:33really focus on being smart
- 19:36about every workout.
- 19:37So the next day I can be
- 19:40back in the gym doing at least something.
- 19:46So, um, that has made me super happy and,
- 19:52um, really excited.
- 19:55Now,
- 19:55what I did find out is to get to level
- 19:57three,
- 19:58you have to have a twenty two percent.
- 20:00So I'm so close to level three.
- 20:05But now I've got goals, right?
- 20:07So next year,
- 20:07the goal is to move from
- 20:10twenty percent level two up
- 20:12into at least twenty two
- 20:14percent to get that level
- 20:16three and keep moving up
- 20:18that that ladder.
- 20:21And to me,
- 20:22like it all kind of sunk in last
- 20:24night that this is what the
- 20:26Community Cup is about, right?
- 20:29Because now it makes it, for me,
- 20:31an easy goal of moving up
- 20:33in those divisions through
- 20:36the Community Cup.
- 20:38Because honestly,
- 20:40I'm super stoked that I
- 20:42improved this much,
- 20:43but I hate the fact that
- 20:44I'm in the group called
- 20:45rookies when I've been
- 20:47doing CrossFit since two thousand eleven.
- 20:49I am just a couple hair
- 20:51percentage points away from level three,
- 20:54moving up to the next level
- 20:56or the next competition in the CUNY Cup.
- 20:59But right now I'm sitting
- 21:02just at that underneath threshold,
- 21:06two percentage points away.
- 21:08And I'm ready to move past it,
- 21:10but it gives me goals for
- 21:12next year and much more
- 21:13easy goals to understand
- 21:15than just a wide ass
- 21:16leaderboard with a bunch of
- 21:18people and trying to look
- 21:20at numbers on that.
- 21:22This one,
- 21:23this actually gives me like something.
- 21:27to shoot for that's
- 21:28realistic and easy to understand.
- 21:31And I hope that the
- 21:33Community Cup takes shape
- 21:37and people start to
- 21:37understand that as a community.
- 21:39And I think it can do a lot
- 21:41to help grow the community
- 21:43once they start to
- 21:44understand all of this.
- 21:47And I don't know if you guys are with me.
- 21:49I hope you guys all jump
- 21:50into the Community Cup that
- 21:51did the Open because I
- 21:53think it's something that
- 21:55the community at large
- 21:57needs to be a part of and
- 21:59needs to understand and see
- 22:01those small goals to get
- 22:03them to the big goal.
- 22:13Um, so Aaron, where do I see my level?
- 22:16That's hard.
- 22:17So I had to go back to,
- 22:19to CrossFit's announcement
- 22:20of the community cup.
- 22:22Uh,
- 22:22it's around when Dave announced like that,
- 22:25there'll be these five divisions, um,
- 22:28with rookie elite.
- 22:31I can't even remember what they all are.
- 22:34had to go back to look at
- 22:35that and in there there's a
- 22:36chart that says like
- 22:38percentage points x to x is
- 22:42level one x to x is two x
- 22:46to x is three and so on and
- 22:48so forth so I had to like
- 22:50do a cross match
- 22:51between what my percentage
- 22:53point was from the app.
- 22:56And if you have the app and
- 22:57you just open it up,
- 22:58it tells you what your percentile is.
- 23:00And you can see it worldwide, U.S.,
- 23:05North... I have... Not North.
- 23:08North America East.
- 23:11It even has my gym percentage.
- 23:14So...
- 23:16That's where you get the percentage.
- 23:17Then you have to go back to
- 23:18the chart that CrossFit released.
- 23:21And I think you can Google
- 23:23community cup divisions and
- 23:26the article will pop up.
- 23:28And then you can look at the
- 23:28chart and see where you fit in that.
- 23:33Hopefully,
- 23:34if they're going to dive in and
- 23:37finally use these levels,
- 23:38it'd be nice if that popped
- 23:40up on the app with your percentile.
- 23:46but right now, uh, the,
- 23:47the only way I could do it was, uh,
- 23:50to do the cross match.
- 23:55So I hope that helps.
- 23:57Um, but, uh,
- 24:03any other big stories from the
- 24:04open from you guys love to
- 24:06hear anything that you guys had or any,
- 24:08any goals you reached,
- 24:10any success stories you've had.
- 24:12Um, I think that, um,
- 24:16we need to share those
- 24:17because they're just awesome.
- 24:19Um,
- 24:20and can't wait for the community cup to
- 24:25come and, uh, put it out there and see,
- 24:30see how I do against the
- 24:32people in my division.
- 24:37So with that,
- 24:39the last thing I have on my rundown,
- 24:42which I don't even really have a rundown,
- 24:44um, is that
- 24:47I did create a Clydesdale
- 24:49media bracket competition
- 24:52bracket league on ESPN's fantasy home.
- 24:57If you want to join the
- 24:59Clydesdale media group,
- 25:01I put the link in the
- 25:03description of this on
- 25:05YouTube and I will put it
- 25:07also on the audio format of
- 25:09this and you can click on
- 25:11that link and the password
- 25:13to get into our group is just Scott.
- 25:17capital S-C-O-T-T.
- 25:20And then
- 25:22And there's a men's bracket
- 25:23and a women's bracket.
- 25:25I will take the points you
- 25:27earn from both brackets,
- 25:28add them together,
- 25:30and then I will put
- 25:31together a prize pack for
- 25:33the winner of our bracket
- 25:35challenge that we do here.
- 25:37But I just thought it'd be
- 25:39something fun to do as a
- 25:40little community that we
- 25:41have here and we can see
- 25:43how each other's doing, talk some smack.
- 25:47All of that,
- 25:48and it makes it a little bit
- 25:49fun to watch some of the
- 25:50games this weekend coming up,
- 25:52but it's out there on ESPN.com.
- 25:56Again,
- 25:56the links are in the description of
- 25:59this YouTube video.
- 26:03And I set it up on my work
- 26:04computer or I would have
- 26:05cut and paste it into the comments,
- 26:07but I tried to do that before.
- 26:09And I actually had another
- 26:10fantasy account on my personal computer.
- 26:14And so now it's all jacked up.
- 26:15I have to figure out how to
- 26:17merge that somehow.
- 26:19But anyway,
- 26:21check that out in the description below.
- 26:23Hit the link.
- 26:25Again,
- 26:26it'll take you to the Clydesdale
- 26:27media league,
- 26:28and then you just type in
- 26:29the password Scott for both
- 26:31the men and the women, um,
- 26:33fill out those brackets.
- 26:34I will take the composite
- 26:36score of the two events,
- 26:38and then I will put
- 26:39together a prize pack for the winner.
- 26:42Um, yeah.
- 26:45And I think I'm going to try
- 26:46to put together something
- 26:47pretty fun and something
- 26:48unique that you wouldn't be
- 26:49able to get anywhere else.
- 26:50So, uh,
- 26:53do that we'll have some fun
- 26:55we'll talk some smack uh
- 26:57we'll see which one of us
- 26:58uh can pick the basketball
- 27:00games the best that should
- 27:03be fun uh Ken says I'll DM
- 27:07you my address just send me
- 27:08the prize pack now I will
- 27:12there's a reason they play the games
- 27:18I can put this down.
- 27:20I did RX workout with thirty
- 27:22inch box jumps last night.
- 27:23So far this morning,
- 27:24I've reserved and canceled
- 27:25for today's workout twice.
- 27:28Yeah, that's I think that's what I was.
- 27:30I was going through a lot
- 27:31before this past year was I
- 27:34was trying to do as close
- 27:36to RX as possible every single day.
- 27:39And at fifty five,
- 27:40my body just can't do that anymore.
- 27:44So I
- 27:49I just decided that if I
- 27:50felt good that day, I would do something.
- 27:54I would try to go for
- 27:55something more intense.
- 27:56If I wasn't feeling it that day,
- 27:59I just would back way off and just move,
- 28:03do some kind of workout
- 28:05that hits the same stimulus,
- 28:07scale it back enough just
- 28:09so I could go every single day.
- 28:12And it was a long time for
- 28:14me to check that ego.
- 28:15I will tell you,
- 28:17I've been fighting that
- 28:18since two thousand.
- 28:20So I first injured my back
- 28:21in twenty sixteen.
- 28:23Since then,
- 28:24I've been fighting my ego with it.
- 28:28So what?
- 28:28Almost ten years.
- 28:29And then finally, in this last year,
- 28:31I learned that I just can't
- 28:33do that anymore.
- 28:36If I want to keep going,
- 28:38if I want to be healthy the
- 28:39rest of my life,
- 28:40I need to listen to my body.
- 28:45Train to live.
- 28:46I love this year's Open.
- 28:47Sad there's no quarterfinals this year,
- 28:50but excited for the Community Cup.
- 28:52Yeah.
- 28:53I think we just have to shift.
- 28:55And now you could win your
- 28:58bracket area of division or
- 29:00whatever that is.
- 29:02And just see how you stand
- 29:03up against people kind of
- 29:04in the same place you are right now.
- 29:09And Aaron backs me up.
- 29:11Ken, just show up.
- 29:14Even if you scale it,
- 29:15it'll help flush your muscles.
- 29:17Yeah.
- 29:17What's nice about Polaris is
- 29:20if I felt really bad and
- 29:23they would let me just hop
- 29:24on a C two bike and just flush out,
- 29:26flush everything out.
- 29:28Like if I felt so bad I
- 29:29couldn't do any part of the workout,
- 29:32they'd let me sit on a
- 29:33machine or hit one of the
- 29:35air runners and just kind
- 29:37of flush it all out.
- 29:40But I think that that's the
- 29:44best case scenario.
- 29:44Just keep showing up, man,
- 29:47and figure out where you're
- 29:48going to put the workout
- 29:49that day so that you can
- 29:51keep going forward.
- 29:58Holly knows nothing about basketball,
- 30:00but let's go.
- 30:02Yeah, I'll be honest.
- 30:04I've watched more of the
- 30:05women's tournament,
- 30:06more of the women's games
- 30:07this year than the men's.
- 30:09They just show up on my TV a
- 30:11lot more now on my local antenna.
- 30:17I don't think I've watched a
- 30:19men's game at all this year.
- 30:21Um,
- 30:22what I've done for the past couple of
- 30:23days is just kind of watch
- 30:24the experts talk about it
- 30:26and hope from what they're
- 30:28saying that I could put
- 30:29together some assembly of a bracket.
- 30:32So you all will probably
- 30:34whoop me this year.
- 30:40Uh, Greg says community cup is better.
- 30:44Well, community cup just allows everybody.
- 30:46I could never make
- 30:46quarterfinals in the
- 30:48twentieth percentile.
- 30:49I can make the community cup
- 30:51and I can go against people
- 30:52that are at the same level
- 30:54I am and I can see where I stack up.
- 30:58So, yeah, I in some aspects,
- 31:00I think it is really good.
- 31:01I think if you are someone
- 31:03striving to be successful.
- 31:07upper tier or elite the
- 31:09quarterfinals was a way for
- 31:11you to judge where you are
- 31:13and a big goal to have to
- 31:15make that so I can see the
- 31:18argument in both senses but
- 31:20I think this actually
- 31:22allows more of us to have
- 31:24the opportunity to have a
- 31:26next phase and to see where
- 31:28we are and to compete again
- 31:30during the year
- 31:32And it's funny because, you know,
- 31:34there's competition now for
- 31:35CrossFit and they're basing
- 31:40a lot of what they're doing
- 31:41on keeping the community
- 31:42more involved throughout a
- 31:44longer part of the year.
- 31:46And that's what the
- 31:46Community Cup is doing.
- 31:49So it actually, you know,
- 31:51I heard Saxon on the thing,
- 31:53the interview the other day,
- 31:55say that they wanted to do
- 31:57like monthly competitions
- 31:59with the WFP and their affiliates.
- 32:03well CrossFit put the
- 32:04community cup in before
- 32:05this and it's kind of
- 32:06mirroring that only over
- 32:08four quarters instead of two.
- 32:11Um, so I don't know.
- 32:14I think like,
- 32:16I think the competition is
- 32:18going to be good for
- 32:18CrossFit to keep coming up
- 32:21with ideas like this,
- 32:22to keep us all involved for
- 32:24longer parts of the year.
- 32:28Um, but we'll see,
- 32:29we'll see how it all plays out.
- 32:31Um,
- 32:34I just hope if they're going to do it,
- 32:36it's tough because they put
- 32:37out these really good ideas.
- 32:38They're doing much better media.
- 32:40They're doing all this stuff.
- 32:41And then, okay, we're up for sale.
- 32:45Or if you believe what I
- 32:46believe they've been up for sale and, uh,
- 32:51And they're close to a deal.
- 32:53What are the new owners
- 32:54going to do with all these
- 32:55ideas that have been coming
- 32:56out and doing things better this year?
- 33:00A lot of the things we've
- 33:01asked for CrossFit is implementing.
- 33:05I hope we don't lose that
- 33:06momentum through the sale.
- 33:10And I know we haven't talked
- 33:11a lot about the sale.
- 33:13Um, we,
- 33:14we got out over our skis the other
- 33:16night on the Sunday night
- 33:17show with a lot of other topics.
- 33:20Uh,
- 33:20but hopefully we'll be able to hit the
- 33:21sale in the upcoming weeks
- 33:23and we'll know more about
- 33:24the sale and be able to
- 33:25talk about it a little bit better.
- 33:27Um, but that, that is one of my concerns.
- 33:31Uh,
- 33:34that it's one of my big
- 33:35concerns that there is a
- 33:37momentum going in the right
- 33:38direction from CrossFit,
- 33:40and I don't want that
- 33:40momentum to stop because of the sale.
- 33:44But I do believe they need to sell.
- 33:46I don't think Berkshire is
- 33:49invested in this long-term,
- 33:51and just because we have a
- 33:53short run of good ideas
- 33:55doesn't mean Berkshire will
- 33:57allow those ideas to continue.
- 33:59I'm just hoping the new owners will.
- 34:02Sarah to completely agree.
- 34:05The CrossFit produced BTS
- 34:07from twenty five.
- 34:07Three was so good.
- 34:09So good.
- 34:11I think it captured.
- 34:15I think it captured Dallin
- 34:16and Jason and James so well
- 34:20and the way that they love
- 34:22on each other and that they
- 34:23beat they trash on each other.
- 34:26Yeah.
- 34:30And that they're just like
- 34:31three dudes hanging out.
- 34:34And then for me,
- 34:35the highlight of it was
- 34:37Grace Ann finding Dave's
- 34:38clue in the real world and
- 34:42pointing it out to Jason.
- 34:44And then Dave admitting that
- 34:46that is how he found the clue.
- 34:48And that he had to run from
- 34:49the shower naked to get his
- 34:51phone to take a picture of
- 34:54it or film it for the clue on Instagram.
- 34:59I thought that was...
- 35:01Because we've never really
- 35:03got a behind the scenes of
- 35:04the Dave Castro clue.
- 35:08And so that was like a
- 35:09little bonus in this twenty
- 35:11three point three behind the scenes.
- 35:14I think the only miss on that was.
- 35:18They had done all the other
- 35:19stuff up until the cool
- 35:21down show when James and
- 35:24his dad talked about.
- 35:27CrossFit saving their lives,
- 35:29I thought that should have
- 35:30been a key component at the
- 35:31very end of that video.
- 35:33It would have been the
- 35:34perfect ending to what they
- 35:38had put together.
- 35:41And they didn't add it to
- 35:42that behind the scenes.
- 35:44If they would have added
- 35:45that to the behind the scenes,
- 35:49that it would have been flawless.
- 35:52Flawless.
- 35:52Flawless.
- 35:54Everything else was great.
- 35:56And it doesn't mean that it
- 35:58wasn't great anyway.
- 36:00But man,
- 36:00they could have gone just like
- 36:01that one tick higher if
- 36:03they would have put that
- 36:04piece in about CrossFit
- 36:08saving James's dad's life
- 36:09from alcoholism.
- 36:12That would have been a huge component.
- 36:16But other than that,
- 36:18that's just me wanting more.
- 36:21And I guess their media is
- 36:23getting to a place where it's so good,
- 36:25I want more.
- 36:28And that is a good thing.
- 36:33It's funny because...
- 36:35I'm being trolled a lot
- 36:37these days whenever I say
- 36:39anything about the WFP, and that's fine.
- 36:41People can say whatever they want to me.
- 36:44They can do that.
- 36:46But what is funny to me is
- 36:48that when I critique media,
- 36:52I'm a viewer just like anybody else.
- 36:54It's not like Siskel and
- 36:55Ebert ever made a movie and
- 36:58had to be an expert in
- 37:00making movies to then
- 37:01critique the movie they're watching.
- 37:04I've watched so much
- 37:05CrossFit videos and so many
- 37:07CrossFit videos and so much
- 37:08media that I think I am
- 37:10capable of saying whether I
- 37:12like something or I don't.
- 37:15That behind the scenes was two thumbs up,
- 37:19five stars, whatever you want to say.
- 37:22It was so good.
- 37:24And when I give it a little criticism,
- 37:26it doesn't mean I didn't
- 37:27like it because I loved it.
- 37:29It just means I just wanted
- 37:32that little step more.
- 37:33When I say that the WFP's
- 37:35video of the Beyond the
- 37:38Athlete was nothing groundbreaking,
- 37:43it was entertaining, it was short,
- 37:45but it didn't give me
- 37:47anything more than what
- 37:50I've seen in other videos.
- 37:53And I may have learned a little bit,
- 37:54but not a ton more about the athletes.
- 37:58So,
- 38:00I've watched so many of these things,
- 38:01so many of the behind the scenes,
- 38:03so many of the road to the games,
- 38:05so many of the documentaries.
- 38:07Um, I think I,
- 38:09I can say whether I liked or
- 38:11didn't like something and why,
- 38:15and I know I have this one
- 38:17troll and it's just one troll.
- 38:20Most of you are lovely and you,
- 38:22you are awesome.
- 38:23And I love hanging out with
- 38:24you all the time.
- 38:26Um,
- 38:30Sarah said she didn't watch the one,
- 38:32but she got to see the Jeff
- 38:33Adler one before it was taken down.
- 38:35It was meh.
- 38:36No one missed anything.
- 38:38Yeah.
- 38:38I wish I would.
- 38:39I just wish I could have
- 38:40seen it to be able to say
- 38:42whether it was good or not.
- 38:47and my thing with anything
- 38:49buttery bros is it all of, and I, man,
- 38:52I was the biggest buttery
- 38:53bros fan in the world back in the day,
- 38:55but their stuff is kind of
- 38:57down the same vein.
- 39:00Um,
- 39:01now they know the formula that works
- 39:04for them and they,
- 39:05they do it as good as
- 39:06anybody and they just keep doing it.
- 39:10Um, uh, Jose, yes, it is still down.
- 39:21Uh,
- 39:22butter bros have done one on him before.
- 39:23I think it was the exact same.
- 39:25It probably didn't have as
- 39:26much games footage in it.
- 39:27And that's why it was taken down.
- 39:30I've said this on the last
- 39:31couple of shows.
- 39:33Um,
- 39:33when we sign a media agreement with the
- 39:34CrossFit games, we have, um, uh,
- 39:42We have strict regulations
- 39:44about how much of the
- 39:45footage that we take at the
- 39:47games can be used in a
- 39:49single project and how long
- 39:53each clip can be.
- 39:55And I'm only guessing here,
- 39:56but because of that thing
- 39:57that I've signed and that
- 39:59it got taken down for copyright,
- 40:01that has to be in my opinion
- 40:04why it was taken down from
- 40:06everybody I've talked to
- 40:07that got to see it there
- 40:08was a ton of games footage
- 40:10in um that jeff adler piece
- 40:13and uh so um so I think
- 40:21that's why I was taken down
- 40:24And again,
- 40:24the Buttery Bros are so good at
- 40:26what they do.
- 40:26I'm not taking anything away from them.
- 40:28But as someone who has watched them since.
- 40:31Twenty thirteen, twenty fourteen.
- 40:33It just is the kind of the
- 40:34same note every year now
- 40:36when they do the documentaries.
- 40:43Sarah, yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 40:46That is a copyright
- 40:47infringement because you
- 40:48signed an agreement from
- 40:49CrossFit that you would not
- 40:51use any of the images or
- 40:53the broadcast or anything
- 40:57like that for any purpose other than
- 41:02whatever.
- 41:02And then you have very strict,
- 41:04what you could only use
- 41:05like three minutes of footage in a,
- 41:07in a big project.
- 41:07And you can only do thirty
- 41:09second clips of any one, um, event.
- 41:13Um, it is very, very, uh, strict.
- 41:24Um, Jose says,
- 41:27that's why I tried to do my best, uh,
- 41:29BTS for Emily Rall for the fans.
- 41:31Yeah.
- 41:33yeah we like all the bts
- 41:35stuff that we do uh across
- 41:37the space is for the fans
- 41:39um petra clark keeps in
- 41:41here we get to talk to
- 41:42these guys all the time and
- 41:44I I don't mean to say it that way
- 41:46We have access to them and
- 41:48we talk to them a lot,
- 41:51but the fans don't.
- 41:52And that's what behind the
- 41:53scenes is trying to do.
- 41:55You're trying to show more
- 41:56of what is available about these athletes,
- 42:01more about where they came from,
- 42:02more about why they do what they do.
- 42:06To me, I view myself as a storyteller.
- 42:09I just want to tell everybody's story.
- 42:12That's why I do it.
- 42:14I love to hear the stories
- 42:15of what made them who they are,
- 42:18where they came from, what they overcame.
- 42:22That's the stuff I find the most rewarding,
- 42:27either doing content or watching content.
- 42:38And just like Jose, I'm a fan myself.
- 42:40I really am.
- 42:45so with that my lunch hour
- 42:48is just about up so get
- 42:51back to work you hooligans
- 42:53we'll see you next time on
- 42:55lunch with the clydesdale
