- 0:22Speaker 2: a lot of things in life, but you can escape
- 0:25Speaker 2: pre diabetes. Pre Diabetes captures one in three adults. There
- 0:30Speaker 2: are usually no signs of pre diabetes. In fact, most
- 0:33Speaker 2: people don't even know they have it. But with early
- 0:36Speaker 2: diagnosis you can change the outcome and prevent or delay
- 0:40Speaker 2: type two diabetes. Take action by taking the one minute

- 1:08Speaker 3: maybe three point seven f av ange to Kelly Bertosis
- 1:11Speaker 3: is CAZy Ellis Station.

- 1:25Speaker 1: You know, the big difference between playing this song on
- 1:31Speaker 1: the first of each month versus the stereotypical DJ who
- 1:37Speaker 1: thinks it's funny to play Mannic Monday every Monday morning
- 1:43Speaker 1: is timing. I mean, well, first and foremost, there is
- 1:48Speaker 1: nothing more emblematic of the mid nineties than Bone Thugs
- 1:51Speaker 1: and Harmony, but especially that song. Chip Howard Sports Talk
- 1:55Speaker 1: on a Wednesday afternoon with only Jared. Jason Cornelius, My
- 2:04Speaker 1: partner is not here today. He is over at Travis Field.
- 2:08Speaker 1: He is about to do his annual duty of being
- 2:12Speaker 1: one of the broadcasters for the Brian Calsation Chamber of
- 2:16Speaker 1: Commerce Community Softball Classic, an event I'm proud to say
- 2:20Speaker 1: that I had a hand in starting, but after about
- 2:26Speaker 1: six or seven years, was like, it's time for someone
- 2:28Speaker 1: else to take it over, and I think that got
- 2:30Speaker 1: thrust upon Jason, so he's been handling it. I believe
- 2:34Speaker 1: this is the eighteenth year. It's crazy to think it's
- 2:38Speaker 1: been going on that long that we started. That we tried.
- 2:42Speaker 1: This was an attempt by me to recreate and I
- 2:45Speaker 1: know I'm going to alienate part of the audience, and
- 2:49Speaker 1: then some of the audience is all of a sudden
- 2:50Speaker 1: going to have a Eureka moment of remembering something. If
- 2:53Speaker 1: you remember MTV's Rock and Jock Softball. That's what I
- 2:58Speaker 1: was going for when I propose, is this idea of
- 3:00Speaker 1: the chamber is like, we've got these athletes from Texas,
- 3:03Speaker 1: A and M, and we've got local celebrities, and we
- 3:05Speaker 1: might even be able to pull in some actual celebrities,
- 3:07Speaker 1: which we did, uh for one year, but uh, playing
- 3:13Speaker 1: softball in the middle of summer in Texas it's a
- 3:18Speaker 1: hard it's a hard ask for a number of people,
- 3:21Speaker 1: and so it can be a little warm, it can
- 3:23Speaker 1: be Yeah, And I will say one of the one
- 3:27Speaker 1: of the coolest things is for I believe two or
- 3:32Speaker 1: three years, we actually got to play it at Olson Field,
- 3:35Speaker 1: and yeah, I got to. And the first one of
- 3:40Speaker 1: the first year is that we changed it from a
- 3:42Speaker 1: celebrity softball classic to the community softball where baseball takes
- 3:45Speaker 1: on the firefighters. And we were at Olson. I was
- 3:49Speaker 1: not expecting any I was if there were home runs,
- 3:52Speaker 1: they were going to be in the parking runs. No,
- 3:54Speaker 1: we had that first year. We had two guys send
- 3:58Speaker 1: that ball over the fence in right field to the
- 4:01Speaker 1: railroad tracks. It was very impressive to see that. But
- 4:07Speaker 1: Jason might be calling in. I don't know. We talked
- 4:10Speaker 1: about doing trying to do something remotely, and I was
- 4:13Speaker 1: just like, if you think you can, if you think
- 4:15Speaker 1: you can make it happen, great, If not, I don't
- 4:17Speaker 1: worry about it all right. On today's show, as promised
- 4:20Speaker 1: per yesterday, we will be talking NBA free agency because
- 4:25Speaker 1: again with it being July first, the moves are still happening.
- 4:31Speaker 1: A lot of things are happening, even with the Lebron
- 4:34Speaker 1: James announcement, because obviously that throws a ratchet into the
- 4:39Speaker 1: entire system because now teams are going to start looking
- 4:42Speaker 1: at what can they do to possibly be a destination
- 4:45Speaker 1: for Lebron. You have to be a contender, So you
- 4:49Speaker 1: Taw Jazz, I know you have assets and you have
- 4:52Speaker 1: trade picks. But guess what, he ain't ain't coming to
- 4:55Speaker 1: Salt Lake City. But there is another Mountain time Zone
- 5:00Speaker 1: team that is being thrown out there, which I find
- 5:03Speaker 1: very interesting, So we'll talk about that later on. Obviously,
- 5:08Speaker 1: the big event happens later tonight, the US men taking
- 5:13Speaker 1: on Bosnia Herzevigonia in San Francisco at what is the
- 5:19Speaker 1: covered up Levice Stadium, but at San Francisco Stadium in
- 5:22Speaker 1: a huge match in the round of thirty two. Because
- 5:27Speaker 1: they win this, they go to the round of sixteen,
- 5:30Speaker 1: and we will, I believe, we will know who we
- 5:33Speaker 1: obviously we will know who we are playing, as you
- 5:36Speaker 1: have Senegal in Belgium playing right now. We'll get a
- 5:39Speaker 1: score update on that after the break. But a huge
- 5:43Speaker 1: night for what could be a big step towards US
- 5:47Speaker 1: men's soccer making a decent run. So we got one
- 5:51Speaker 1: zero still Senegal, yeah, all right, a potential run to
- 5:59Speaker 1: the quarterfinal where they could face perennial power Spain or
- 6:03Speaker 1: Portugal possibly. We'll see how those things shake out. But again,
- 6:07Speaker 1: you have to play these games. You cannot look ahead.
- 6:10Speaker 1: But we will talk about the us men against Bosnia
- 6:13Speaker 1: later in the show. Since it is July first, this
- 6:17Speaker 1: is probably Darren Ovelle's favorite day, but he only gets
- 6:21Speaker 1: nine more of these because after twenty thirty five, he
- 6:24Speaker 1: can't wake up on July first and do his little
- 6:27Speaker 1: tweet about saying it's Bobby Bonia Day. The funny thing is,
- 6:33Speaker 1: and I was thinking about this on the drive up here.
- 6:36Speaker 1: I believe Jason and I have been in studio, and
- 6:39Speaker 1: I know he's not here today, but we've been filling
- 6:42Speaker 1: in for Chip on Bobby Bonia Day. I believe for
- 6:48Speaker 1: at least nine years. Twenty twenty might be the only
- 6:53Speaker 1: year we weren't in studio on Bobby Bonia Bobby Bonia Day. So,
- 6:59Speaker 1: for those who don't know, today is the day that
- 7:02Speaker 1: the New York Mets have to pay retired baseball player
- 7:06Speaker 1: Bobby Bonia one point one nine to three million dollars.
- 7:10Speaker 1: They've been doing this since twenty eleven, and they're gonna
- 7:13Speaker 1: have to do it all the way through twenty thirty five.
- 7:15Speaker 1: The reason they have to do this is because they
- 7:20Speaker 1: deferred a buyout of Bobby's five point nine million dollar
- 7:24Speaker 1: contract in nineteen ninety nine. As a result, in exchange
- 7:30Speaker 1: for the deferred money, Bobby Bonier receives an eight percent
- 7:33Speaker 1: annual interest rate. So this resulted in twenty five annual
- 7:36Speaker 1: payments of the one point one to ninety three million
- 7:39Speaker 1: dollars from twenty eleven to twenty thirty five, totally nearly
- 7:42Speaker 1: thirty million dollars. Now, obviously a little caveat to this
- 7:46Speaker 1: whole story is that the previous Mets ownership had their
- 7:53Speaker 1: money invested with Ponzi scheme financier. Oh wow, well, why
- 8:00Speaker 1: am I blinking on his name? Now? Most this is
- 8:06Speaker 1: what happens when you're doing live radio and you're doing
- 8:08Speaker 1: it by yourself. I can see the man, I can see,
- 8:11Speaker 1: thank you, Bernie made Off. They had their they had
- 8:16Speaker 1: most of their family wealth invested with made Off, and
- 8:18Speaker 1: they lost it. But this, since Bobby omnia was in
- 8:23Speaker 1: a creditor to the Mets, they still had to Uh,
- 8:25Speaker 1: this has to be paid out, and it has to
- 8:27Speaker 1: be paid out by current Mets ownership, which is Steve Cohen.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Now the Mets get made fun of for this whole
- 8:34Speaker 1: deal because you're like, why are you Every year you're
- 8:38Speaker 1: paying a little over a million dollars to a guy
- 8:40Speaker 1: who hasn't played baseball since two thousand and one. But
- 8:45Speaker 1: let's go back and look at what did the Mets
- 8:47Speaker 1: get for making this deferring this contract. The key thing
- 8:53Speaker 1: is the Mets freed up a media cash and they
- 8:56Speaker 1: signed All star pitcher Mike Hampton. Hampton went on to
- 9:01Speaker 1: win the National League Championship Series MVP that season, and
- 9:06Speaker 1: then a year later he signed with the Colorado Rockies.
- 9:09Speaker 1: The Mets received a compensatory draft pick for losing Hampton,
- 9:13Speaker 1: which they used to select David Wright. For those who
- 9:16Speaker 1: don't know who David Wright was, David Wright is an
- 9:19Speaker 1: icon as far as the New York Mets go. He
- 9:21Speaker 1: is a seven time excuse me, seven time All Star,
- 9:26Speaker 1: two time Gold Glove Award winner, two times Silver Slug
- 9:29Speaker 1: Award winner. He had his number retired. He is in
- 9:32Speaker 1: the Mets Hall of Fame. He finished his career with
- 9:35Speaker 1: a two ninety six batting average, two hundred and forty
- 9:37Speaker 1: two home runs, and nine hundred and seventy runs batted in.
- 9:41Speaker 1: So all in all, the Mets actually made out with
- 9:45Speaker 1: a pretty good deal on the Bobby bo Neo contract.
- 9:49Speaker 1: And when you started talking about you're paying a little
- 9:51Speaker 1: over a million dollars a year, a million dollars in
- 9:54Speaker 1: baseball right now, I mean that's chicken feed money.
- 9:57Speaker 5: Especially for Steve Cohen.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Yes, especially for Steve Going who has no problem in
- 10:02Speaker 1: spending and obviously he is a better investor than he
- 10:06Speaker 1: is at spending on baseball. Because the Mets are a joke,
- 10:12Speaker 1: which by the way, I love doing radio. I have
- 10:17Speaker 1: a face for it, do not have a voice for it.
- 10:20Speaker 1: But there's a part of me that wishes we had
- 10:22Speaker 1: a video component. If you have not seen the video
- 10:26Speaker 1: of I forget what New York station it is. I
- 10:30Speaker 1: don't think it's s n Y.
- 10:32Speaker 6: But the.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Reporter covering the Mets is announcing the firing of the
- 10:39Speaker 1: Mets manager, and mister Met comes into the background because
- 10:44Speaker 1: this is at City Field, and so there is music playing,
- 10:49Speaker 1: and mister Met just starts dancing behind the report. Is
- 10:52Speaker 1: it is the most emblematic thing that you can see,
- 10:56Speaker 1: or it's most emblematic thing about the New York Mets
- 10:58Speaker 1: of recent history. Because this is a team that has
- 11:00Speaker 1: one of the largest payrolls in baseball I believe, only
- 11:04Speaker 1: third to the to the Dodgers. They have spent so
- 11:06Speaker 1: much money and have not been able to put anything
- 11:09Speaker 1: on the field that it that is ultimately competitive. So yeah,
- 11:13Speaker 1: so we're looking at it right now, and I guess
- 11:15Speaker 1: the funniest the funniest part, or one of the funny
- 11:17Speaker 1: things to me, is that the manager's name is Carlos Mendoza,
- 11:23Speaker 1: and he oh, just it's it's hilarious. If you have
- 11:27Speaker 1: not seen it, pull it up on YouTube. Mister Mett
- 11:30Speaker 1: obviously cannot read the room, and the reporter is just
- 11:33Speaker 1: doing everything he can not to break to break while
- 11:37Speaker 1: he's having to report this news. All right, with it
- 11:39Speaker 1: also being July first, it is the new year for
- 11:44Speaker 1: college football, so it's realignment time, and you had a
- 11:48Speaker 1: number of teams that, especially in the state of Texas,
- 11:51Speaker 1: that have changed their affiliations and so I just one
- 11:57Speaker 1: of the things that made me remember that this happening
- 11:59Speaker 1: was I was driving up I thirty five through San
- 12:02Speaker 1: Marcos and of course Texas State is now part of
- 12:06Speaker 1: the PAC.
- 12:07Speaker 5: Twelve PAC twelve after debt.
- 12:10Speaker 1: That's right, The league that previously only had two teams
- 12:17Speaker 1: now has Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Oregon State,
- 12:23Speaker 1: San Diego State, Texas State, Utah State, and Washington State.
- 12:27Speaker 1: But they also have Gonzaga, but not for football, because
- 12:31Speaker 1: Gonzaga still does not have a football program. But this
- 12:36Speaker 1: now puts the BACK twelve back into kind of the
- 12:39Speaker 1: group of X, however many you want to consider that now.
- 12:44Speaker 1: But more importantly, it gives us our late night football games,
- 12:47Speaker 1: which we've so desperately been warning for so long, and
- 12:50Speaker 1: gets Texas State some exposure to some big teams as
- 12:55Speaker 1: they continue to put more money into their program. The
- 12:59Speaker 1: Mountain West. Obviously they had a number of their teams
- 13:02Speaker 1: Pilford by the Big or by the PAC twelve. So
- 13:05Speaker 1: now the Mountain West is comprised of Air Force Grand
- 13:08Speaker 1: Canyon University, but not for football, Hawaii, which I guess
- 13:13Speaker 1: they didn't get into the Pac twelve because they're not
- 13:15Speaker 1: Hawaii State, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota State for football only,
- 13:19Speaker 1: Northern Illinois for football only, San Jose State, U See
- 13:22Speaker 1: Davis in a non football capacity, unlv U, TEP and Wyoming,
- 13:27Speaker 1: and then Cousa Conference USA which they lost Louisiana Tech
- 13:32Speaker 1: and UTEP, but now they are made up, so they
- 13:37Speaker 1: are only left with Delaware FIU, Jacksonville State, Knnessas State,
- 13:40Speaker 1: Liberty and Middle Tennessee, Missouri State, New Mexico State, SAM Houston,
- 13:44Speaker 1: and Western Kentucky. And then the Sun Belt, which is large,
- 13:48Speaker 1: which is starting to become one of the most entertaining
- 13:50Speaker 1: conferences to watch on a Saturday. If you're not watching it,
- 13:54Speaker 1: if you don't have an SEC football game to watch,
- 13:57Speaker 1: watch some Sun Belt football. It's actually been good the
- 14:00Speaker 1: last couple of years. App State, Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia,
- 14:04Speaker 1: Southern Georgia, State, Louisiana, Louisiana, Mouroe, Louisiana Tech, James Madison,
- 14:08Speaker 1: Old Dominion, Marshall, South Alabama, Southern miss and Troy. And
- 14:13Speaker 1: for those of us siccos that like to watch college
- 14:17Speaker 1: football on a Tuesday night, the MAC action, Baby, that's right.
- 14:21Speaker 6: Uh.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Northern Northern Illinois, like we mentioned, have have left to
- 14:25Speaker 1: go to the Mountain West, but you still got Akron
- 14:27Speaker 1: Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Kin State, Miami, Ohio, Toledo, UMass,
- 14:33Speaker 1: Western Michigan and joining the group in the middle in
- 14:37Speaker 1: the Mid Atlantic Conference. Is that that's what's not American
- 14:41Speaker 1: mid American Midier. I was about to say, why would
- 14:43Speaker 1: I mean geography does not matter in college football anymore.
- 14:46Speaker 5: I think the MAC might be the only conference that
- 14:48Speaker 5: is still geographical.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Yes, well it was until you know Sacramento State, so
- 14:54Speaker 1: West Coast now joining the Mid American Conference.
- 14:57Speaker 7: Uh.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Again one of the and we were talking about these
- 15:01Speaker 1: moves earlier in the year. Again, this is all kind
- 15:04Speaker 1: of positioning for if we end up getting your super
- 15:08Speaker 1: conferences between the SEC and the Big Ten and what
- 15:12Speaker 1: might result in finally having some kind of I guess
- 15:20Speaker 1: for lack of a better term, relegation in college football.
- 15:26Speaker 1: We don't know. It would be interesting, it would make
- 15:28Speaker 1: it a little more compelling, have a little more mistakes
- 15:31Speaker 1: in it. But we'll see. All right, we gotta take
- 15:33Speaker 1: a break. When we come back, we are gonna kind
- 15:36Speaker 1: of dip our toes in the NBA free agency. This
- 15:40Speaker 1: portion of the show has been brought is brought to
- 15:41Speaker 1: you by Chad Jones Law. You were listening to Chip
- 15:43Speaker 1: Howard Sports Talk on the Zone eleven fifty AM and
- 15:46Speaker 1: ninety three point seven FM.
- 15:49Speaker 3: History history and some lookings to the sports Shipower Shopower
- 15:52Speaker 3: with Day's forty six only fifty AF in ninety three
- 15:57Speaker 3: point seven.
- 15:58Speaker 6: FF.
- 15:59Speaker 8: I'm Chad Jones. We know sports injuries hurt, and so
- 16:02Speaker 8: do injuries from car rex. But you didn't sign up
- 16:04Speaker 8: to being a car wreck with someone who wasn't paying attention.
- 16:07Speaker 8: It was their fall, and now you're left to deal
- 16:09Speaker 8: with the consequences. You need to see a doctor and

- 16:29Speaker 3: The Louis Belina Show presented by CC Electric and.
- 16:32Speaker 4: It's become I think a basic part of the baseball conversation.
- 16:36Speaker 4: What is war?
- 16:37Speaker 9: It's terms. It means wins above replacement, and it's based
- 16:41Speaker 9: on the concept that there is a replacement level of play,
- 16:44Speaker 9: a generic replacement level of play for all major league plays.
- 16:48Speaker 9: If you had a team full of replacement level players,
- 16:51Speaker 9: your team would go about forty eight and one hundred
- 16:53Speaker 9: to four. There are a number of different types of war,
- 16:56Speaker 9: but what you want to just grasp here is that
- 16:58Speaker 9: it's giving you a single number that tells you how
- 17:01Speaker 9: valuable a player is relative to replacement. So a two
- 17:05Speaker 9: win player two war, that's like an average Major league
- 17:09Speaker 9: A four win player is having a star season six
- 17:12Speaker 9: and above. You're talking about MVP candidies. The best seasons
- 17:14Speaker 9: there ever, are like sevent ripton in ninety ninety one
- 17:18Speaker 9: was seventeen wins. Your biggest war seasons are all pitchers
- 17:21Speaker 9: that through four hundred innings, so we really don't count
- 17:23Speaker 9: those guys.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Hang out with Louis weekdays eleven to two and the
- 17:26Speaker 3: Zon eleven and fifty AM and ninety three point seven FM.
- 18:00Speaker 7: Welcome to you.
- 18:04Speaker 10: This no churning.
- 18:11Speaker 1: When I was putting together today's playlist, England had just
- 18:16Speaker 1: won off Harry Kane's two goals late and so I
- 18:21Speaker 1: decided this first hour is going to be largely eighties English.
- 18:28Speaker 4: Music.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Chip Howard Sports Talk on a Wednesday afternoon. It is hot,
- 18:34Speaker 1: it is humid. We are I mean, it's only July first,
- 18:39Speaker 1: and it already feels miserable, even though it's not even
- 18:42Speaker 1: triple digits, but man, it was. It's just it's just
- 18:47Speaker 1: been uncomfortable all day long. All Right, we're gonna talk
- 18:52Speaker 1: a little NBA basketball here as we approach the bottom
- 18:56Speaker 1: of the first hour. And again, the announcement that came
- 19:01Speaker 1: out yesterday, and it was a subtle one, but it
- 19:07Speaker 1: created the shockwaves through the league is the fact that
- 19:10Speaker 1: Lebron did announce that he is going to play again,
- 19:13Speaker 1: but he informed the Lakers, you can go ahead and
- 19:17Speaker 1: pursue whatever you want to do, because I'm not going
- 19:20Speaker 1: to be playing with you. So now we have the
- 19:22Speaker 1: Lebron sweepstakes, and according to his agent Rich Paul Money,
- 19:29Speaker 1: this is not about money. He wants to go to
- 19:32Speaker 1: a contender. So now you start looking at, okay, what
- 19:35Speaker 1: teams would Lebron consider? And yesterday we talked very in
- 19:41Speaker 1: depth about the fact that, at least yesterday the popular
- 19:45Speaker 1: selection and the one kind of being thrown out there
- 19:48Speaker 1: by a number of sources was Golden State. That there
- 19:51Speaker 1: was kind of a longing to see Lebron and Steph
- 19:58Speaker 1: play again together because we saw them during the twenty
- 20:02Speaker 1: twenty four Paris Olympics and they looked not only to
- 20:04Speaker 1: be having fun, but it was actually an entertaining form
- 20:07Speaker 1: of basketball. The only thing is we're two years later.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Both those guys have two more years of miles on
- 20:14Speaker 1: those bodies, and of course, obviously Lebron is the oldest
- 20:17Speaker 1: player in the league. Now. Part of what gave a
- 20:22Speaker 1: little fuel to that fire is the fact that Draymond
- 20:24Speaker 1: Green opted out of his extension with Golden State, which
- 20:32Speaker 1: would pay him twenty seven million dollars for the next
- 20:34Speaker 1: two years. So that freed up that twenty seven million
- 20:37Speaker 1: dollars for Golden State against their cap. Now it is
- 20:43Speaker 1: not a coincidence that Draymond Green is also represented by
- 20:46Speaker 1: Clutched Sports, which is who represents Lebron James. He had
- 20:52Speaker 1: to give up his quote unquote ownership, but they're both
- 20:56Speaker 1: Clutched Sports. Now. The only issue with that is, even
- 21:02Speaker 1: though that frees up twenty seven million dollars, if Lebron
- 21:04Speaker 1: is going to get and we were talking about this
- 21:06Speaker 1: shit yesterday, the MLEE, that's still fifteen point one million dollars.
- 21:14Speaker 1: And so if he's going to get fifteen point one
- 21:17Speaker 1: and Draymond's going to have to take a pay cut
- 21:19Speaker 1: roughly about ten million dollars, he's probably only gonna get seventeen,
- 21:23Speaker 1: then Golden State's going to have to squeeze the remaining
- 21:27Speaker 1: members of the roster to get that necessary space unless
- 21:31Speaker 1: they look at potentially trading away. Now, one of the
- 21:34Speaker 1: names that one of the names we mentioned yesterday is Miami. Now, Miami,
- 21:41Speaker 1: obviously Lebron has history with and we talked about the
- 21:47Speaker 1: fact he seems to have repaired the relation. The relationship
- 21:50Speaker 1: between pat Riley and Lebron has seemingly been repaired. But
- 21:56Speaker 1: Miami is not without its own issues because again, there
- 21:59Speaker 1: are they still haven't even finalized the Jianna Sannakupo trade.
- 22:03Speaker 1: That does not happen until July sixth, and according to
- 22:07Speaker 1: sources within Miami, which they don't they don't really spill
- 22:12Speaker 1: the beans much, so whatever information you can get out
- 22:15Speaker 1: of them is considered pretty valuable. Their mindset is talk
- 22:21Speaker 1: to me after July sixth. They are waiting for this
- 22:25Speaker 1: deal to finalize. But they obviously have plans on or
- 22:32Speaker 1: when this deal does become final because again they have
- 22:38Speaker 1: traded away an immense amount of trade capital, first round
- 22:41Speaker 1: picks for the next four years, a number of players.
- 22:44Speaker 1: They really don't have any shooters on the team right now.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Basically the team will as it will be composed if
- 22:50Speaker 1: this deal goes through, is you've got two bigs we
- 22:54Speaker 1: found out late yesterday or no, actually early this morning
- 22:57Speaker 1: or this morning Norman Powell is being traded away too,
- 23:01Speaker 1: or Norman Palace going to Chicago Bulls, so you've lost him.
- 23:05Speaker 1: They did pick up Tim Hardaway Junior from Denver. That's
- 23:09Speaker 1: actually a pretty good deal. They're only having to pay
- 23:11Speaker 1: six and a half million dollars for Tim. So he
- 23:15Speaker 1: goes to the team that his father played for, that
- 23:18Speaker 1: his Jersey has been retired and his dad has already said, no, boy,
- 23:22Speaker 1: you don't get to wear my number, so that Jersey's
- 23:24Speaker 1: not coming out of the rafters. But one of the
- 23:28Speaker 1: interesting things is when Andrew Wiggins opted in for his
- 23:33Speaker 1: thirty million dollars this year and then seventeen million dollars
- 23:37Speaker 1: per year on his two year extension, that initially seemed like, well,
- 23:42Speaker 1: that kind of closes the door on possibly being able
- 23:45Speaker 1: to bring in Lebron because you're not going to have
- 23:47Speaker 1: much in the way of cap space, except for the
- 23:49Speaker 1: fact are the Miami he playing chess when everyone's playing checkers?
- 23:54Speaker 1: Because is this going to be a sign and trade deal?
- 23:56Speaker 1: Because now if you sign and trade Andrew Wiggins to
- 24:01Speaker 1: the Lakers, which by the way, the Lakers could definitely
- 24:03Speaker 1: use Wiggins, and that contract is especially attractive because you're
- 24:08Speaker 1: thirty million this year and then it drops to seventeen
- 24:10Speaker 1: million for the next two years. That means that thirty
- 24:13Speaker 1: million can actually go towards Lebron if he comes to Miami.
- 24:17Speaker 1: So we're gonna have to wait and see how that
- 24:19Speaker 1: plays out. Again, I don't think Miami's gonna do anything
- 24:23Speaker 1: till after the Yannis trade goes final, so that's not
- 24:26Speaker 1: going to be until Monday. And then obviously Lebron already
- 24:32Speaker 1: has his plans for what he would like to do.
- 24:35Speaker 1: He's not going to rush into anything now the other
- 24:38Speaker 1: team that's being thrown out there because if this is
- 24:41Speaker 1: going to be Lebron's swan song, does he want to
- 24:44Speaker 1: have a homecoming and go to Cleveland? Now the problem
- 24:49Speaker 1: if he goes to Cleveland right now is does he
- 24:52Speaker 1: want to finish his career playing with James Harden or
- 24:57Speaker 1: Evan mowgli Well. Harden's pree agent and he and he
- 25:01Speaker 1: has not. He is not recent Yeah, he's a free agent,
- 25:04Speaker 1: declined his player option. So there he is going to
- 25:08Speaker 1: be potentially move he will be out of the picture.
- 25:14Speaker 1: But Brian Windhorse started and we talked. We talked yesterday.
- 25:17Speaker 1: We talked about Jalen Brown. Win Horse put out there
- 25:21Speaker 1: of potentially looking at a Lebron Jalen Brown in Cleveland situation,
- 25:29Speaker 1: which I found. I mean again, Brian Windhorse is not
- 25:33Speaker 1: putting out stuff just for the sake of putting it out.
- 25:35Speaker 1: If he's hearing things, that means certain things are being
- 25:38Speaker 1: put out kind of the feelers are being put out
- 25:40Speaker 1: there to see how that may work out. Obviously, Cleveland's
- 25:44Speaker 1: gonna have Cleveland is already over the cap, so they're
- 25:47Speaker 1: gonna have to to move. They're already looking at moving
- 25:50Speaker 1: like Dennis Schroeder and Max Struce and that's fourteen point
- 25:54Speaker 1: eight and sixteen million dollars respectively, So that would definitely
- 25:57Speaker 1: free up some space. But the big question is is
- 26:00Speaker 1: Boston going to trade Jalen Brown to someone they're going
- 26:02Speaker 1: to have to beat in the Eastern Conference to get
- 26:05Speaker 1: to the finals. My response to that would be no,
- 26:08Speaker 1: unless they are just desperately looking to unload the Jalen
- 26:12Speaker 1: Brown contract. So that's going to be interesting to see
- 26:16Speaker 1: if Cleveland continues to be a player in this mix.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Now the one that came out today, which initially I'm like,
- 26:24Speaker 1: you've now, I think we're stretching, but there are some
- 26:30Speaker 1: compelling arguments the Denver Nuggets could Lebron go to another
- 26:40Speaker 1: because again, if he's already toying with the idea of
- 26:42Speaker 1: going to Golden State, he's not dismissing the idea of
- 26:46Speaker 1: playing for a Western Conference team, although all his success
- 26:49Speaker 1: has come in the Eastern Conference. And oh, by the way,
- 26:52Speaker 1: that would be a much easier path than trying to
- 26:54Speaker 1: get through San Antonio or OKC this coming year. But
- 27:00Speaker 1: could you see Lebron James being paired up with Joker
- 27:09Speaker 1: in Denver and making a serious run. Denver actually played
- 27:13Speaker 1: well this year A number of times when Jason and
- 27:17Speaker 1: I were filling in, they might be the number They
- 27:20Speaker 1: were never the number one team in the West, but
- 27:21Speaker 1: they could be the number two, number three, number four.
- 27:23Speaker 1: I mean they were able to compete. Now, granted, that's
- 27:27Speaker 1: all that's all on the back of Jokic, because when
- 27:32Speaker 1: Jokic is not playing, that Nuggets team is atrocious. When
- 27:35Speaker 1: he's in, they are exceptionally better. And again, giant loaf
- 27:40Speaker 1: of white bread. Okay, there's nothing attractive about either the
- 27:44Speaker 1: way he looks or the way he plays, But statistically speaking,
- 27:47Speaker 1: he puts up numbers that are better than Michael Jordan.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I know I sound crazy by saying that, but it's
- 27:52Speaker 1: the actual truth. If you look at his statistics. Statistically
- 27:57Speaker 1: he played, he plays at a higher clip than Michael Jordan.
- 28:00Speaker 1: And but he will never receive that kind of fame
- 28:03Speaker 1: and I and honestly, he doesn't care about it. He
- 28:05Speaker 1: just wants to be back home watching his horses race.
- 28:08Speaker 1: But if you put Lebron in Denver, now you're talking,
- 28:12Speaker 1: you have a very interesting team that might be comp
- 28:17Speaker 1: I know it would, it would be odd. But again,
- 28:19Speaker 1: you know, Lebron has been able to modify his game
- 28:22Speaker 1: over the years, and especially as his body, his age,
- 28:24Speaker 1: and with the with the players he's playing with, and
- 28:27Speaker 1: more to the point, Lebron does not want to have
- 28:30Speaker 1: to play under the rim. He does not want to
- 28:32Speaker 1: have to play defense. That's why Miami is a compelling
- 28:36Speaker 1: argument because if if you've got Bam and Giannis, those
- 28:40Speaker 1: are two bigs that can handle the defense for you.
- 28:43Speaker 1: That's kind of the the detriment of what Golden State
- 28:45Speaker 1: would be because you really only have Draymond.
- 28:49Speaker 10: Well back.
- 28:51Speaker 5: They do have porzingis kind of one of the reasons
- 28:54Speaker 5: why I think they might not get Lebron.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Yeah, but but and because it'll only play like twenty
- 29:01Speaker 1: games probably, Yeah, that's gonna be the other that's gonna that.
- 29:04Speaker 5: Really is it goes to Miami. He's probably he's gonna
- 29:07Speaker 5: play point guard the whole season because they don't have
- 29:08Speaker 5: any guards exactly. So yeah, he won't have to play
- 29:13Speaker 5: under the rim. That's right, I mean that's true.
- 29:15Speaker 1: So again, he he's not gonna go somewhere like Minnesota.
- 29:22Speaker 1: He's not gonna go somewhere like Utah. Uh, He's definitely not.
- 29:27Speaker 1: I mean, there's really no way he's gonna end up
- 29:29Speaker 1: in a place like Oklahoma City or San Antonio because
- 29:33Speaker 1: then that kind of Soully's whatever stick or that that
- 29:38Speaker 1: will put the stigma on him that he's basically pulling
- 29:41Speaker 1: Katie the KD just trying to chase a ring. He
- 29:44Speaker 1: wants to go to a team that's competitive where he
- 29:46Speaker 1: can make an impact.
- 29:48Speaker 5: What if he went and played with Katie.
- 29:53Speaker 1: I don't I don't see it happening if I don't
- 29:58Speaker 1: be a.
- 29:58Speaker 5: Lot of fun.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, but that you have not heard any
- 30:02Speaker 1: Texas team mentioned in any of these trade roomor or
- 30:05Speaker 1: any of these possible possible landing spots. So I think
- 30:10Speaker 1: when when you look at it, it's it's gonna be,
- 30:13Speaker 1: it's gonna be the Golden State, Miami. Golden State's the
- 30:16Speaker 1: odds on favorite. Cleveland is actually in second when you
- 30:19Speaker 1: look at the betting odds, then Miami's in third. I
- 30:22Speaker 1: didn't even bother to see if how Denver has entered
- 30:25Speaker 1: into the mix now. But this was just an interesting,
- 30:27Speaker 1: little interesting piece put out by Sam Ammick of the
- 30:32Speaker 1: Athletic Today talking about the dynamic, the dynamic of Lebron
- 30:38Speaker 1: James in Denver and how that may look. All Right,
- 30:41Speaker 1: we got to take a break. When we come back,
- 30:43Speaker 1: we've got Ryan targ tar Jack.

- 34:23Speaker 7: Welcome back in Riley Dorsey. Here joining us once again
- 34:26Speaker 7: is Brasis Valley Bombers head coach Ryan Targosh for a
- 34:29Speaker 7: weekly Bombers check in. Ran thank you again for joining us.
- 34:33Speaker 7: We're gonna jump right in because it was a pretty
- 34:36Speaker 7: eventful week for this team. So y'all had a big
- 34:38Speaker 7: bounce back win mixed in with a couple of tough
- 34:41Speaker 7: losses this past weekend. So when you're looking back at
- 34:44Speaker 7: these games, does y'all's overall record really tell the full
- 34:47Speaker 7: story of how the how well this team has played
- 34:50Speaker 7: so far?
- 34:51Speaker 15: No, I don't think that the record tells the full
- 34:55Speaker 15: story of the Bombers first half. There was a probably
- 34:59Speaker 15: a half for the losses that we had. There were
- 35:02Speaker 15: one round ball games and it could have been a
- 35:04Speaker 15: coin coin flip on who or which team got the call.
- 35:11Speaker 15: But I think overall, I mean, these boys, they fought
- 35:13Speaker 15: hard till every last out and that's all that I
- 35:16Speaker 15: can ask from them. And if we just keep continuing
- 35:19Speaker 15: just playing good baseball, I think we're gonna see more
- 35:21Speaker 15: wins coming in the second half.
- 35:23Speaker 7: Yeah, for sure, has has y'all's team done a pretty
- 35:26Speaker 7: good job about just not letting one bad game carry
- 35:29Speaker 7: over into the next.
- 35:30Speaker 15: So far, I think so. I think most of our
- 35:35Speaker 15: most of our wins have actually came from either a
- 35:40Speaker 15: tough loss or a loss of some sort. And I
- 35:43Speaker 15: think that just shows how these guys they understand that, uh,
- 35:47Speaker 15: yesterday's game or one one bad game doesn't define the
- 35:52Speaker 15: next game. And if you just keep going out there
- 35:55Speaker 15: and playing baseball, I mean, the law of average is
- 35:57Speaker 15: going to end up being your favorite at some point.
- 35:59Speaker 15: So it's all about getting the opportunity and getting the
- 36:02Speaker 15: chance to going out and to perform, Yeah, for sure.
- 36:06Speaker 7: And I feel like just with so many games packed
- 36:08Speaker 7: into such a short amount of time, it's definitely important
- 36:11Speaker 7: to just have that kind of resilience as a team,
- 36:14Speaker 7: for sure. So then moving on, considering, like you said,
- 36:18Speaker 7: how close some of these most recent games have been,
- 36:21Speaker 7: would you say it's a little easier or more frustrating
- 36:24Speaker 7: to stay patient just knowing how close this team is
- 36:27Speaker 7: to being able to flip those losses into wins.
- 36:32Speaker 15: That's a good question. I think it could be you
- 36:35Speaker 15: could get very frustrated with how close these losses are.
- 36:39Speaker 15: But I think if you just look at some of
- 36:43Speaker 15: the route of maybe our problems and that's just maybe
- 36:47Speaker 15: it's not playing clean baseball. Maybe there's some mental errors,
- 36:52Speaker 15: and it could be just maybe some guys haven't played
- 36:56Speaker 15: the game in a while and this is their first
- 36:57Speaker 15: time coming back out there. And so whenever you look
- 37:01Speaker 15: at those same mistakes and problems, I mean, those are
- 37:06Speaker 15: pretty easy fixable problems. So whenever, whenever you have those,
- 37:11Speaker 15: it's not as frustrating. But at the end of the day,
- 37:15Speaker 15: those are pretty easy. And so if you can work
- 37:17Speaker 15: those out within a game or two or within a week,
- 37:20Speaker 15: those aren't Those aren't bad to have. But whenever you
- 37:22Speaker 15: start having effort or attitude mistakes, and that's where uh,
- 37:27Speaker 15: that's where the dominoes could could fall. It could lead
- 37:30Speaker 15: to a not so good direction. But we don't have
- 37:33Speaker 15: we don't have those problems on the Bombers. I think
- 37:35Speaker 15: we've we've done a pretty good job of kind of
- 37:37Speaker 15: setting a standard and implementing a good baseball culture for
- 37:45Speaker 15: this team, even though it's been a short amount of time.
- 37:47Speaker 15: But that's that's what it comes down to, is just
- 37:49Speaker 15: having a standard and just upholding as standard and just
- 37:52Speaker 15: going out there and competing Yeah, for sure, And.
- 37:56Speaker 7: I feel like it's definitely as a coach, do you
- 38:00Speaker 7: kind of just let them know and make them realize
- 38:03Speaker 7: how important it is for them to be able to
- 38:05Speaker 7: just stay patient without getting frustrated.
- 38:10Speaker 15: Yes, I'd probably let them know it every single day
- 38:13Speaker 15: that this game is hard. Just baseball is a game
- 38:17Speaker 15: of failure, and that you're going to fail more times
- 38:19Speaker 15: and you're going to succeed. So it's just about it's
- 38:24Speaker 15: not always about the current outcome or the outcome that
- 38:29Speaker 15: you may receive. It's sometimes it's about the response and
- 38:34Speaker 15: how quick can you make that adjustment, how quick can
- 38:36Speaker 15: you get back in the game, Because the game doesn't
- 38:40Speaker 15: care how long you're prepare for or what kind of
- 38:44Speaker 15: routine you have. The game doesn't care if you've gone
- 38:47Speaker 15: over three with three strikeouts and you come up for
- 38:49Speaker 15: your last a bet and you hit a home run.
- 38:51Speaker 15: The game doesn't care what kind of person you are.
- 38:54Speaker 15: It just it cares about what matters in that moment,
- 38:58Speaker 15: just that current moment. And so I really stress to
- 39:02Speaker 15: these guys that you know it's you're you're going to
- 39:05Speaker 15: swing on a bad pitch, you're gonna walk someone, You're
- 39:09Speaker 15: gonna make an air that sign, it's just how how
- 39:12Speaker 15: quick can we get back on the on the right track?
- 39:15Speaker 7: Yeah for sure. And I mean, you know, with baseball,
- 39:18Speaker 7: you never have to wait very long for another game
- 39:21Speaker 7: coming up or anything like that, Like I know you'll
- 39:24Speaker 7: have one tonight. And you've mentioned a few times winning
- 39:28Speaker 7: the day is kind of a saying that you go with.
- 39:31Speaker 7: Is that kind of a mindset that really just gets
- 39:34Speaker 7: put to the test with a stretch of games like
- 39:37Speaker 7: this that might just be kind of difficult on the team.
- 39:42Speaker 15: Yeah, Yeah, for sure. I've I've always loved the saying
- 39:45Speaker 15: when the day, And if we can kind of break
- 39:49Speaker 15: that down even more, I think we can look at
- 39:51Speaker 15: just having small wins. And what small wins might look
- 39:55Speaker 15: like is that you know that the big win is
- 39:57Speaker 15: obviously winning a baseball game, but it's a small when
- 40:00Speaker 15: could be getting that first pitch strike, or swinging that
- 40:04Speaker 15: pitches in the zone and taking the balls, or if
- 40:07Speaker 15: you get to get to a three to zero count,
- 40:09Speaker 15: it's just taking the walk. Those are the small wins
- 40:12Speaker 15: that whenever they accumulate over time, you're gonna get those
- 40:15Speaker 15: big wins. And so instead of looking at a outcome
- 40:20Speaker 15: oriented mindset, of just trying to win the game. Sometimes
- 40:24Speaker 15: they can take or having an outcome oriented mindset will
- 40:29Speaker 15: feel like you're having so much pressure on your shoulders,
- 40:32Speaker 15: Versus if you go to a process oriented mindset, it
- 40:35Speaker 15: can kind of take that pressure off and then you're
- 40:37Speaker 15: just you're kind of you're you're playing the game pitch
- 40:39Speaker 15: to pitch, and whenever you're playing the game pitch to pitch,
- 40:42Speaker 15: there's there's not as much pressure, in my opinion, and
- 40:45Speaker 15: so whenever these guys or to me, I can see
- 40:49Speaker 15: whenever we go out there and we play pitch to pitch,
- 40:51Speaker 15: the guys are having fun. They're they're smiling on the field,
- 40:55Speaker 15: they're cracking jokes, which you know, baseball doesn't have to
- 40:58Speaker 15: be all that serious and have that that switch. You
- 41:01Speaker 15: can have fun while being serious. But whenever I can
- 41:05Speaker 15: see that guy's pressing, I can tell that you know,
- 41:07Speaker 15: either either they're not playing pitch to pitch or they're
- 41:10Speaker 15: they're looking far more advanced than what they're currently doing.
- 41:14Speaker 15: And so at the end of the day, it's it's
- 41:16Speaker 15: definitely won the day. But whenever you break that down
- 41:20Speaker 15: and just have small wins, I believe that that's what
- 41:22Speaker 15: helps win ball games.
- 41:24Speaker 7: Yeah for sure. And I I can definitely say that
- 41:27Speaker 7: just whenever you're having fun playing the game, it definitely
- 41:30Speaker 7: just makes everything feel like less pressured and all that.
- 41:34Speaker 15: Oh yeah, yeah, I mean the game it's a game
- 41:37Speaker 15: for a reason. You whenever whenever it's not a game
- 41:40Speaker 15: no more, it's it's no fun. And I've been I've
- 41:42Speaker 15: been in that or I've had that feeling, and it's
- 41:46Speaker 15: not a good feeling. And so I also try to
- 41:47Speaker 15: stress to these guys that you know this gain, this
- 41:50Speaker 15: game is meant to be a game and no more
- 41:52Speaker 15: than that.
- 41:53Speaker 7: Yeah for sure. So then obviously there's the physical side
- 41:57Speaker 7: of playing every day and when you've had like a
- 42:01Speaker 7: week like this that's a little more tough. Is the
- 42:03Speaker 7: challenge more mental than anything else, or is simply just
- 42:06Speaker 7: having the right mindset the trick in your opinion, I think.
- 42:10Speaker 15: It's having the right mindset. I think as long as
- 42:16Speaker 15: you prepare well and you go to you get a
- 42:21Speaker 15: good sleep, you have a good diet, and you do
- 42:24Speaker 15: all of those factors that might get overlooked once you
- 42:29Speaker 15: do those, and then you play the game, as long
- 42:32Speaker 15: as you have the right mindset going into it. I
- 42:35Speaker 15: don't think it's that that big of a deal. I've
- 42:38Speaker 15: been in these guys shoes as far as playing every day,
- 42:40Speaker 15: and it does, it does take a toll on your body.
- 42:44Speaker 15: But like I said, if you if you can control
- 42:46Speaker 15: the controllables as far as what you put in your
- 42:48Speaker 15: body and how you treat your body, I don't think
- 42:51Speaker 15: it's as big as big of a factor now whenever
- 42:55Speaker 15: i'd say the guys start to shift their focus onto
- 42:59Speaker 15: how my body body feels or I don't think I
- 43:03Speaker 15: can play today because I don't think my body feels good.
- 43:07Speaker 15: That could end up in two ways. And maybe one,
- 43:11Speaker 15: it's that you know, they've they've been playing a lot
- 43:13Speaker 15: and they do need a break, which uh, I try
- 43:15Speaker 15: to get these guys a game or two off a
- 43:18Speaker 15: week just to give their bodies a good reset and
- 43:21Speaker 15: just to give guys out the reps in. And then
- 43:23Speaker 15: two is that some some of these guys might you know,
- 43:26Speaker 15: they could be selling selling themselves short. It's you know,
- 43:30Speaker 15: it's that's that's not really the best outcome. But I
- 43:33Speaker 15: think it just falls onto the right mindset. And if
- 43:36Speaker 15: you do have the right mindset, I think you can
- 43:38Speaker 15: get through anything as far as this league and just
- 43:41Speaker 15: the game of baseball.
- 43:43Speaker 7: Yeah, for sure, I can definitely tell about just whenever
- 43:47Speaker 7: you're mentally locked in, then the physical side kind of
- 43:50Speaker 7: tends to take care of itself a little bit.
- 43:52Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 43:53Speaker 7: Well, last up, kind of wrapping things up once tonight's
- 43:57Speaker 7: game is over, what is there anything that would make
- 43:59Speaker 7: you feel good about where this team is at and
- 44:02Speaker 7: where they're headed.
- 44:04Speaker 15: I know I've said this a million times on our
- 44:07Speaker 15: on our interviews, but I think just going out there
- 44:09Speaker 15: and planning or playing good, competitive, clean baseball. I think
- 44:15Speaker 15: if we can just stack those kind of days on
- 44:18Speaker 15: to days on today's I can put my head on
- 44:22Speaker 15: my pillow and and sleep good without having to having
- 44:25Speaker 15: to think about anything or regretting something or not saying
- 44:29Speaker 15: not saying something to the guys. I can. I can
- 44:32Speaker 15: live with myself and I can I can live with
- 44:34Speaker 15: the result no matter what the result is. But whenever,
- 44:39Speaker 15: if that doesn't happen, then we kind of gotta go
- 44:41Speaker 15: back to the draw on board and look at some
- 44:43Speaker 15: things and see what has to happen. But I mean,
- 44:47Speaker 15: just kind of like we talked about on this call,
- 44:49Speaker 15: we're I believe that we're right there. I think we're
- 44:51Speaker 15: playing we're playing good baseball. I think if we get
- 44:54Speaker 15: a if we get that that hit or two, or
- 44:56Speaker 15: if we throw a strike one, strike two, if you
- 45:00Speaker 15: more times, I think we're I think we're just as
- 45:03Speaker 15: good as any are the top teams in this league.
- 45:06Speaker 7: Yeah. Absolutely, I don't doubt y'all for a second. I
- 45:10Speaker 7: think that's it that I have for you this week.

- 47:37Speaker 6: Last night, the Houston Astros were able to defeat the
- 47:40Speaker 6: Minnesota Twins six to four. Now, Minnesota did take the
- 47:43Speaker 6: early lead, scoring three in the first off of Mike Burrows.
- 47:46Speaker 6: It would remain three to nothing until the Astros offense
- 47:48Speaker 6: exploded for six runs in the fourth, including a Jordon
- 47:52Speaker 6: Alvarez grand slam.
- 47:53Speaker 10: One one.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Da night few season, You're.
- 48:03Speaker 18: Alvarez launches one deep to right center field into the
- 48:08Speaker 18: ball pen.
- 48:10Speaker 6: And it's six to three, Just like that. Mike Burrows
- 48:14Speaker 6: picked up the win, going five innings and allowing four
- 48:16Speaker 6: runs on six hits, while Joe Ryan got the loss
- 48:19Speaker 6: as he went just four giving up six runs. The
- 48:21Speaker 6: Rubber matches tonight with first pitch schedule for seven ten.

- 48:44Speaker 10: At me for quality. The least we're quality and value
- 48:51Speaker 10: keep shining through at me Glass weird, clean.
- 48:56Speaker 3: Lead become this is this only eleven and maybe three
- 49:01Speaker 3: points seven fl.
- 49:33Speaker 1: Okay, Yes, I know officially this is a Philip Bailey
- 49:39Speaker 1: song with Phil Collins as the guest, but everyone associates
- 49:46Speaker 1: this song with Phil Collins. I mean the music video
- 49:49Speaker 1: was shot in London. It's it's an English song, but
- 49:53Speaker 1: that take nothing away from Philip Bailey and Earth Wind
- 49:56Speaker 1: and Fire. Chip Howard Sports Talk on the Zone eleven
- 49:58Speaker 1: fifty am point seven FM. As we head into this
- 50:02Speaker 1: final segment of the first hour with Senegal still leading
- 50:06Speaker 1: Belgium to nil. As we were approaching the end of
- 50:10Speaker 1: the match, and we were having the conversation UH during
- 50:13Speaker 1: the break about extra time because I know for many
- 50:17Speaker 1: Americans who have not traditionally watched soccer UH or foot
- 50:24Speaker 1: or football UH, the concept of just adding time at
- 50:29Speaker 1: the end of the of a game seems not only odd,
- 50:34Speaker 1: but in the case of Apparently a couple fans at
- 50:38Speaker 1: Blackwater Draw who call who the bartender even chimed in
- 50:45Speaker 1: on this in agreement, saying, yeah, it's just special time.
- 50:49Speaker 1: It's just it's whatever they feel like, adding no, there's
- 50:51Speaker 1: actually there's actual science to it. They there there is,
- 50:55Speaker 1: There is. The refs have a stop watch and they
- 50:58Speaker 1: are clocking anytime that gets used for post scoring, you know,
- 51:04Speaker 1: post scoring celebrations, especially injuries. And granted, in this World
- 51:10Speaker 1: Cup you've had a lot of you've had a lot
- 51:13Speaker 1: of players who go down and stay down, trying to draw,
- 51:18Speaker 1: trying to draw a penalty, trying to draw foul because
- 51:21Speaker 1: the rest have been very free willing with the yellow cards,
- 51:26Speaker 1: especially in the group stages. But obviously the big reason
- 51:31Speaker 1: why we're having so much extra time put on at
- 51:33Speaker 1: the end of each half is because of the hydration breaks.
- 51:37Speaker 1: These are supposed to only be ninety seconds, but of
- 51:39Speaker 1: course they're stretching sometimes the three to four, in some
- 51:43Speaker 1: cases five minutes, so that's why you're getting typically at
- 51:46Speaker 1: minimum five minutes of extra time.
- 51:48Speaker 5: Belgium has scored in the eighty six minutes.
- 51:50Speaker 1: Oh Axle, if you're listening, I know that gets you
- 51:54Speaker 1: excited and so here scored again. I was about to
- 51:58Speaker 1: say this is the goals in like, this is the
- 52:00Speaker 1: crazy part. Going into yesterday, there were there have been
- 52:05Speaker 1: twenty five goals scored in the believe in the last
- 52:10Speaker 1: five minutes of matches. I mean, it's it's an ungodly amount,
- 52:15Speaker 1: all things considered. I guess they're being scored in what's
- 52:19Speaker 1: called actually called stoppage time. So that's time after the
- 52:23Speaker 1: matches have ended. That's what it is. It's I believe
- 52:27Speaker 1: going into yesterday it was twenty five goals scored in
- 52:29Speaker 1: stoppage time prior to the start of matches yesterday. That
- 52:35Speaker 1: that's just unreal. And that's why you cannot sit back
- 52:39Speaker 1: and take it easy. You have to in a lot
- 52:42Speaker 1: of cases, you have to keep the press going against
- 52:46Speaker 1: these teams because they are getting these goals in at
- 52:49Speaker 1: the last second, and I mean, it makes for incredible television.
- 52:54Speaker 1: It ends up sending you into extra time and in
- 52:58Speaker 1: some cases in the penalty and if you want to
- 53:01Speaker 1: talk about blood pressure rising and just the stress of
- 53:05Speaker 1: all things, penalty kicks. As a parent of two daughters
- 53:11Speaker 1: who have played goalkeeper, there is nothing that gives you
- 53:16Speaker 1: more anxiety when you know you're heading to penalty kicks
- 53:19Speaker 1: and your daughter's in goal, because it is it is
- 53:24Speaker 1: you against them, and it is it is just how
- 53:28Speaker 1: quick can you a how quick can you your reflexes work,
- 53:32Speaker 1: and how sure are you they're going right, left, high
- 53:34Speaker 1: or low? Anyway, this was something interesting as we're finishing up,
- 53:40Speaker 1: because we're talking about penalty kicks. Germany had never lost
- 53:45Speaker 1: a World Cup match that went to pks until yesterday
- 53:52Speaker 1: or two days ago. Two days ago. What I found
- 53:56Speaker 1: interesting was after the first five, because you have to
- 53:59Speaker 1: announce the five players who are going to take the pks,
- 54:03Speaker 1: the German captain and I'm apologize I don't have his
- 54:05Speaker 1: name off the top of my head, then goes up
- 54:08Speaker 1: to ask for players to take the remaining kicks once
- 54:13Speaker 1: you get six on because at that point it becomes
- 54:15Speaker 1: sudden death. You had veteran German national team players who
- 54:20Speaker 1: have taken penalty kicks, who take penalty kicks in Bundaligue,
- 54:23Speaker 1: and all the leagues that they plan all say no.
- 54:27Speaker 1: And so what you ended up having was the German
- 54:30Speaker 1: player who scored the equalizing goal to at least get
- 54:35Speaker 1: them to extra time. He's the one who has to
- 54:40Speaker 1: take the PK and he's never taken a PK at
- 54:45Speaker 1: the national level, and I believe he hasn't even taken
- 54:47Speaker 1: a pk at the club level. I just cannot believe.
- 54:50Speaker 1: I mean again, this shows you just the amount of
- 54:55Speaker 1: stress and mental toll that taking a penalty kick to
- 55:00Speaker 1: keep your national team in the World Cup takes on players.
- 55:05Speaker 1: And they just don't They don't want that. They don't
- 55:07Speaker 1: want to have that burden on them, especially if they miss.
- 55:10Speaker 1: And I get it, with Hill playing as Hill the
- 55:15Speaker 1: goalkeeper for Paraguay as great as he was playing, I
- 55:19Speaker 1: get that there's some reluctance, But man, when your team
- 55:23Speaker 1: needs you to step up, you have to do it.
- 55:24Speaker 1: I just I thought that was one of the more
- 55:26Speaker 1: remarkable stories to come out of the German the Germany
- 55:31Speaker 1: loss to Paraguay on Monday, And man, just one of
- 55:38Speaker 1: the cool things that they're doing now with that skycam
- 55:41Speaker 1: and it gives you the perspective of the player taking
- 55:45Speaker 1: the kick and the goalkeeper. That shows you just the
- 55:48Speaker 1: proximity and just how lonely that spot is because the
- 55:53Speaker 1: entire world is watching you at that moment. All right,
- 55:57Speaker 1: that's going to do it for our one. When we
- 55:59Speaker 1: come back, we will talk more World Cup. We'll get
