- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio. Bro thea free agency so well, let's just
- 0:14Speaker 1: say the off season begins today. The Panthers now control
- 0:17Speaker 1: the draft. Sources say they have traded up from the
- 0:20Speaker 1: number nine overall pick all the way to number one,
- 0:25Speaker 1: Derek Carr agreeing to a contract with the New Orleans Saints.
- 0:29Speaker 1: The Chicago Bears are signing Tremaine Edmonds, the star linebacker
- 0:34Speaker 1: formerly of the Buffalo Bills. Jimmy g headed to the
- 0:37Speaker 1: Raiders after six years with the San Francisco forty nine Ers.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Seed is a blockbuster trade. The New York Giants acquiring
- 0:45Speaker 1: start tight end Darren Waller. Or Orlando Brown is on
- 0:49Speaker 1: his way to the Bengals. The Lions are signing former
- 0:53Speaker 1: Bears running back David Montgomery. Javon Hargrave was going to
- 0:57Speaker 1: the San Francisco forty nine Ers for four years eighty
- 1:01Speaker 1: four million dollars. Breaking news here. Cowboys all are releasing
- 1:06Speaker 1: Ezekiel Elliott. It's official now. In Miami, the Dolphins have
- 1:10Speaker 1: an outstair trade with the Rams for safety Jalen Ramsey.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I'll be back on the air tomorrow, waiting on Aaron.
- 1:19Speaker 1: So there's there's nothing you could say. There's nothing you
- 1:21Speaker 1: could say that they can make it better other than
- 1:23Speaker 1: that it's over. It's Monday. It's still the offseason. Welcome
- 1:35Speaker 1: to NFL Now on NFL Network from our news room
- 1:38Speaker 1: in Los Angeles. We are done watching college basketball for now.
- 1:42Speaker 1: That is Steve White. My name is andrews Ceciliato. Sorry
- 1:45Speaker 1: about your two teams, but at least you had two
- 1:47Speaker 1: smoke in. You had two teams in. Yeah, Howard Missoo
- 1:51Speaker 1: both taken Els. Howard and Massoo both out of here.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Both syrac House did not make the tournament. More in
- 1:57Speaker 1: that coming up a little bit later. Also coming up soon,
- 2:00Speaker 1: for the first time, we have a team on the record,
- 2:02Speaker 1: a GM on the record saying no to Lamar Jackson.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Will tell you what that team is. Let's start in Carolina,
- 2:10Speaker 1: to the team that has the first overall pick in
- 2:12Speaker 1: the NFL Draft because they traded with the Bears. Sam
- 2:16Speaker 1: Darnold out of there, DJ Moore out of there. What
- 2:21Speaker 1: does Frank Wright now do with the number one overall
- 2:25Speaker 1: pick for the first time since they made that deal,
- 2:28Speaker 1: since they announced it last Wednesday, that Carolina Panthers are
- 2:32Speaker 1: on the podium trying to well not tell us what
- 2:36Speaker 1: they're going to do. Okay, we'll show you this instead.
- 2:46Speaker 1: We'll tell you later what Frank Wright and and Scott
- 2:52Speaker 1: Fitterer said today on the podium. Here's what our mock
- 2:55Speaker 1: drafts are. This was before free agency. Peter Scronsky, Cyrus Torrens,
- 3:01Speaker 1: will Levis, will Levis, will Levis. They are not picking
- 3:05Speaker 1: number nine overall. They are picking number one overall. He
- 3:12Speaker 1: interapt before it is our NFL Network insider. He joins
- 3:15Speaker 1: us out with some other moves that the Panthers made,
- 3:17Speaker 1: most notably high there Ian Adam Feeling tell us about
- 3:21Speaker 1: that one. Yeah, big free agent signing last night, Adam Theland,
- 3:27Speaker 1: former Viking stalwart. He agrees to their terms on a
- 3:30Speaker 1: three year, twenty five million dollars deal. This is actually
- 3:33Speaker 1: a really strong deal for Theland. Thirty three years old,
- 3:35Speaker 1: obviously struggled with some lower body injuries last year, not
- 3:39Speaker 1: his best season, but he gets a deal that gives
- 3:41Speaker 1: him ten million dollars in year one and eighteen million
- 3:45Speaker 1: dollars fully guaranteed over the first two years. Is basically
- 3:47Speaker 1: means that Theland will be on the team the next
- 3:50Speaker 1: two years. There's still some conversations going on with DJ Chark,
- 3:53Speaker 1: the former Jaguars receiver most recently of the Lions. We'll
- 3:56Speaker 1: see if they're able to strike a deal there. But
- 3:58Speaker 1: all the Panthers have done this offseason is surround their
- 4:02Speaker 1: new quarterback, whoever this person is with weapons, of course,
- 4:06Speaker 1: Hayden Hurst. They got Andy Dalton to come in as
- 4:08Speaker 1: a stand in. They got Miles Sanders. Now Adam Feeling
- 4:11Speaker 1: in a receiver for the Carolina Panthers. All right, Adam
- 4:14Speaker 1: Feeling gets to deal with some pretty decent, guaranteed muddy.
- 4:17Speaker 1: That was one of the notable moves yesterday. Another one
- 4:20Speaker 1: is an interesting one. As we spoke so much about
- 4:22Speaker 1: Philadelphia on the challenge, Howary Roseman had Ian in keeping
- 4:26Speaker 1: guys and trying to keep an NFC championship team together.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Trounca Gardner Johnson was a guy that they got. The
- 4:33Speaker 1: Eagles got from the Saints right before the season began.
- 4:35Speaker 1: He played reasonably well. But as we bring in Jim
- 4:38Speaker 1: Trotter to this conversation as well, there wasn't a big
- 4:43Speaker 1: contract out there and Ian he gets a one year
- 4:46Speaker 1: deal in Detroit. Tell us about that. Yeah, it ends
- 4:50Speaker 1: up being one year six point five million dollars at
- 4:52Speaker 1: its base with a chance to make eight million. Pretty
- 4:55Speaker 1: good situation for Gardner Johnson. Ends up back with Aaron
- 4:59Speaker 1: Glenn and some other people that he was with with
- 5:01Speaker 1: the New Orleans Stats. Certainly some familiarity there. Should be
- 5:04Speaker 1: able to to fit right in and succeed be right Obviously,
- 5:08Speaker 1: very very difficult free agency for Gardner Johnson or the
- 5:10Speaker 1: Saints when he was back with them before they ended
- 5:13Speaker 1: up trading him, made a long term contract extension offered
- 5:16Speaker 1: to him, did not accept it. They ended up trading him.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Was with the Egos, had a successful season. They made
- 5:22Speaker 1: an offer to him before free agency. What happens is
- 5:25Speaker 1: there's only so much money and there's only so many chairs,
- 5:27Speaker 1: So the Eagles make could offer to him, he does
- 5:29Speaker 1: not accept it. They say okay, they move on. They
- 5:32Speaker 1: bring back Darius Slay, they bring back James Bradbury, and
- 5:35Speaker 1: at that point it was essentially done, leaving him with
- 5:38Speaker 1: the best option meaning to land with the Detroit Lions. Yeah,
- 5:43Speaker 1: you know, Andrew, what's really shocking here is that CJ.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Garner Johnson was on the market this song. We're talking
- 5:48Speaker 1: about a twenty five year old playmaking birth little safety.
- 5:51Speaker 1: And I understand it's a depressed market, but from this stampoint,
- 5:54Speaker 1: I'm surprised as well how the Eagles handled this number one.
- 5:57Speaker 1: They offered him a three year backloaded contract for a
- 6:01Speaker 1: maximum of twenty four million dollars, and seventeen plus million
- 6:05Speaker 1: of that was in year three, So why would C. J.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Gardner Johnson take that? But I'll say this to you,
- 6:11Speaker 1: this speaks to the value they placed on the player.
- 6:13Speaker 1: The Eagles were given an opportunity to match that one year,
- 6:17Speaker 1: eight million dollars offer to Gardner Johnson and they declined.
- 6:21Speaker 1: So clearly he did not fit into their plants, which
- 6:24Speaker 1: is shocking because this is one of the more talented
- 6:27Speaker 1: young safeties in the game today, Andrew. And he goes
- 6:31Speaker 1: to Detroit and maybe he cashes in next year. But
- 6:34Speaker 1: it's always better to cash in sooner rather than later.
- 6:37Speaker 1: All right, thank you, Jim. More from Jim coming up
- 6:39Speaker 1: a little bit later. I At the meantime, let's get
- 6:41Speaker 1: to one of the other ones that turned some heads yesterday.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Not that Brandon Cooks got traded. We've seen this coming
- 6:46Speaker 1: for a while. He's wanted out since right before last
- 6:48Speaker 1: year's deadline. But how this deal went down, the Cowboys
- 6:52Speaker 1: kind of did the reverse Amari Cooper here. They got
- 6:55Speaker 1: a good player and didn't have to give up a lot. Yeah,
- 6:58Speaker 1: really nice deal for the Dallas Cowboys. They end up
- 7:00Speaker 1: paying twelve million dollars of Cooks's eighteen million dollars fully
- 7:04Speaker 1: guaranteed sour Texans are picking up six million and this
- 7:07Speaker 1: is a five this year and a six next year
- 7:10Speaker 1: going to the Texans basically to dump Brandon Cooks his salary.
- 7:13Speaker 1: It has been a wild, wild ride for Brandon Cooks.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I would say basically his entire career has been that
- 7:17Speaker 1: he's been awesome and catching the ball, great at making plays,
- 7:20Speaker 1: great at getting traded. All three of those things are true.
- 7:24Speaker 1: So he lands again tie Eric Dickerson for the NFL
- 7:26Speaker 1: record for most traded players. But really this was about
- 7:30Speaker 1: the Texans saying that he was a key member of
- 7:33Speaker 1: the Texans right around the time of the trade deadline.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Then he wanted out, and he wanted to say he
- 7:38Speaker 1: wanted where he wanted to go. There was a lot
- 7:41Speaker 1: here going on to The Texans are probably just fortunate
- 7:43Speaker 1: to dump the salary and the Cowboys get someone to
- 7:46Speaker 1: add a little juice to their offense. That is what
- 7:48Speaker 1: they were looking for. And you know, I would say
- 7:50Speaker 1: this probably takes them out of the Odell Beckham Junior sweepstakes,
- 7:54Speaker 1: which I'm not sure they were in at this offseason anyway.
- 7:56Speaker 1: But now they're at him. We'll try to decipher O'Dell
- 7:59Speaker 1: tweets a little bit later as he plays the contract
- 8:02Speaker 1: game with the media and the fans. You're speaking of
- 8:03Speaker 1: the contract game. Laramie tunsl In is the champion of
- 8:09Speaker 1: the contract game. I mean they at the contract Hall
- 8:12Speaker 1: of Fame one day if the NFLPA ever makes one,
- 8:14Speaker 1: should put a statue of Laramie Tunsel outside. Yeah, Tunso
- 8:20Speaker 1: got the bag, as they say again, three years, seventy
- 8:24Speaker 1: five million dollars for one of the best left tackles
- 8:27Speaker 1: in the NFL. This according to Saint Omni, his advisor,
- 8:30Speaker 1: he gets fifty million dollars fully guaranteed, sixty million dollars
- 8:34Speaker 1: in total guarantees thirty two million dollars in year one.
- 8:37Speaker 1: It is a massive deal also as the opportunity to
- 8:40Speaker 1: re up after a couple of years as well, just
- 8:42Speaker 1: given the short term nature of this contract. So there's
- 8:45Speaker 1: a lot to like for him, but if you're the Texans,
- 8:48Speaker 1: there's also a lot to like for you. I never
- 8:49Speaker 1: got the sense they were going to trade him another
- 8:51Speaker 1: from rumors that never felt real. This was about making
- 8:54Speaker 1: sure that your next quarterback, whoever that is, has a
- 8:57Speaker 1: personal protector, has a blindside protector. Laramie tuns again one
- 9:02Speaker 1: of the best. You gotta pay for the best. Texas
- 9:04Speaker 1: did pay, but this is a very very good player
- 9:07Speaker 1: to keep in the full fascinating when you too look
- 9:09Speaker 1: at the Orlando Brown contract, what he got Jowan Taylor
- 9:11Speaker 1: obviously replaced him back in Kansas City. Brown now fell
- 9:14Speaker 1: into the Bengals laps, and now Laramie Tunsil signs another
- 9:19Speaker 1: huge dya Thank you and Rappaport back a little bit
- 9:22Speaker 1: later with more news, and there's plenty of it here
- 9:24Speaker 1: around the league. Thank you. Ian. Back here with Steve watching,
- 9:28Speaker 1: let's welcome James Palmer into the conversation as well as
- 9:31Speaker 1: you try to figure out the Texans. Knowing here, James,
- 9:34Speaker 1: they still do have the second overall pick. Brandon Cooks
- 9:38Speaker 1: is out as we expected, Laramie Tunsil gets another big
- 9:41Speaker 1: bag your thoughts, Drew, seems like every move to Houston
- 9:45Speaker 1: Texans make it somehow is connected to the quarterback right
- 9:48Speaker 1: and Ian's right. Any quarterback in the NFL would want
- 9:50Speaker 1: Laramie Tunsil protecting their blind side, specifically a rookie that
- 9:54Speaker 1: could possibly be starting right away, which what a lot
- 9:56Speaker 1: of us believe. But also look at the rest of
- 9:58Speaker 1: the offensive line. They have a very good right tackle
- 10:01Speaker 1: as well in Titus Howard, so their exterior side of
- 10:04Speaker 1: that offensive line and protecting those edge rushers in a
- 10:06Speaker 1: very good spot. Your eyes should be though on how
- 10:09Speaker 1: things pan out this season early on in training camp
- 10:11Speaker 1: as well, on the interior portion of that line, they
- 10:14Speaker 1: go get Shack Mason, a very upgraded spot there at
- 10:17Speaker 1: the right guard. Left guard is a bit interesting. It's
- 10:19Speaker 1: Kenyan Greene, who they pick fifteenth overall last year in
- 10:24Speaker 1: the first round that he struggled in his rookie year,
- 10:26Speaker 1: did miss almost all of training camp because of a concussion,
- 10:29Speaker 1: but he is a question mark as well as Scott
- 10:31Speaker 1: Questenberry at center. And then the Brandon Cook steal. When
- 10:34Speaker 1: you look at who's catching passes from this potential rookie
- 10:37Speaker 1: playing right away, Cooks leaves to go get Robert Woods
- 10:40Speaker 1: at the start right before free agency began. He knows
- 10:42Speaker 1: this system very well. He's a physical receiver. That's a
- 10:44Speaker 1: plus to help some of these younger guys. They have
- 10:47Speaker 1: Noah Brown that they added, which ironically came from the Cowboys.
- 10:50Speaker 1: But the two young players Steve is where I have
- 10:52Speaker 1: my eye on. It's Miko Collins, a former third round
- 10:55Speaker 1: pick from twenty twenty one, six four. They feel like
- 10:58Speaker 1: he has a lot of potential. I'm told he spent
- 11:00Speaker 1: a lot of time with Andre Johnson learning to be
- 11:02Speaker 1: a physical, big bodied receiver in the red zone. They
- 11:05Speaker 1: think he could take a jump. And then it's John Mechi.
- 11:07Speaker 1: We know the health issue that he had during his
- 11:09Speaker 1: rookie season, but this guy caught ninety six balls from
- 11:13Speaker 1: Bryce Young his last year in Alabama. He could be
- 11:16Speaker 1: an interesting play with their chemistry and their relationships, some youthfulness,
- 11:20Speaker 1: but there also needs to be Steve probably some additions
- 11:23Speaker 1: as well to that wide receiver group, and it has
- 11:25Speaker 1: to be Probace Young and that T T Stil. We
- 11:28Speaker 1: don't know how these quarterbacks are going to go the
- 11:30Speaker 1: first two, but we do know what that number two
- 11:31Speaker 1: overall pick that the Texans are going to go quarterback.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Remember they've got the number twelve overall pick James, and
- 11:37Speaker 1: the fact that they's dined Larry Mee Tontl and they've
- 11:40Speaker 1: got the situations on the offensive line taken care of
- 11:43Speaker 1: alleged to believe they're kind of out of that market
- 11:46Speaker 1: in the first round, which could be now an edge rusher,
- 11:49Speaker 1: right someone Damiko Ryans is now the head coach. We
- 11:52Speaker 1: know he's a defensive guy and the edge really sets
- 11:55Speaker 1: the table in the scheme. So maybe that's an area
- 11:59Speaker 1: that they go, or maybe they go interior. But you
- 12:02Speaker 1: just mentioned wide receiver and tight end. These are positions
- 12:05Speaker 1: that are gonna be right there in that sweet spot
- 12:07Speaker 1: at twelve. Maybe they go with somebody like Addison the
- 12:10Speaker 1: wide receiver ad at USC or one of these tight ends.
- 12:13Speaker 1: That's another position in this offense. Bobby Slowe coming over
- 12:16Speaker 1: from the forty nine ers, he's gonna have a kind
- 12:19Speaker 1: of that stretch zone scheme. But we know how vital
- 12:22Speaker 1: having tight ends and multiple tight ends in that scheme is.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Maybe that's somewhere they go, or else they can go
- 12:28Speaker 1: wide receiver or tight end with one of those early
- 12:30Speaker 1: picks in the second round as well. I've gotten early
- 12:32Speaker 1: pick in the second round. But what the Huston Texans
- 12:35Speaker 1: have done foundationally with that interior offensive line, like you mentioned, James,
- 12:39Speaker 1: setting up their quarterback and also setting up their draft
- 12:43Speaker 1: to address some other needy spots. All right, that twelve
- 12:46Speaker 1: obviously part of the Deshaun Watson trade that would have
- 12:48Speaker 1: been Cleveland's pick if they lost Edge Actually to Cleveland,
- 12:52Speaker 1: ok ron Quo signing a free agent contract their last week,
- 12:56Speaker 1: absolutely as sending player former ram All right, let's go
- 12:59Speaker 1: back to two though. I found it interesting James this
- 13:02Speaker 1: morning Peter King's Football Morning America is Monday column here
- 13:06Speaker 1: where Ryan Pole suggests they were pretty close maybe to
- 13:10Speaker 1: trading down to two and giving Houston number one. What
- 13:16Speaker 1: do you think, Well, it is interesting that came out
- 13:20Speaker 1: because there was a lot of talk out of Houston,
- 13:22Speaker 1: and Steve mentioned it too. With all the work that
- 13:24Speaker 1: they need to do that holding onto draft picks is
- 13:26Speaker 1: extremely important to nickos Sario and Demiko Ryan's in terms
- 13:29Speaker 1: of this full rebuild that we know that they're in
- 13:32Speaker 1: the middle of. I think when you take case Keenum
- 13:34Speaker 1: right out of the gate at the start of free agency,
- 13:36Speaker 1: I think that's showing that we're in a rebuild and
- 13:38Speaker 1: we're going to be playing a rookie quarterback. I think
- 13:40Speaker 1: when you look at two, they're doing all their due diligence.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I'm told on CJ. Stroud and Bryce Young, that's kind
- 13:45Speaker 1: of the two guys that everybody hears about as one two.
- 13:48Speaker 1: They're going to be at their pro days this week.
- 13:50Speaker 1: They've sat down with them at the combine. I'm told
- 13:52Speaker 1: that they feel like they both check almost every single box.
- 13:55Speaker 1: But where things might be very interesting and different in
- 13:58Speaker 1: this draft is the meat of the draft for the
- 14:01Speaker 1: Houston Texans. And that's why I bring this up. Where
- 14:03Speaker 1: they didn't move up, they still have all these picks
- 14:05Speaker 1: in the middle of draft. They have thirty three, sixty five,
- 14:08Speaker 1: seventy three, and one oh four. Now. Also, it's interesting, Steve,
- 14:11Speaker 1: because this new staff that came in with Demiko Ryans
- 14:14Speaker 1: has now changed this draft board to an extent, about
- 14:17Speaker 1: twenty percent of their board has changed. I'm told in
- 14:20Speaker 1: those middle rounds. It's because fit is so important for
- 14:24Speaker 1: Demiko Ryans and his group to where there might be
- 14:26Speaker 1: some guys at this previous scouting staff valued that they
- 14:30Speaker 1: thought maybe the previous coaching staff valued Steve. But this
- 14:32Speaker 1: group values them differently. That shuffled the middle area a
- 14:36Speaker 1: little bit for how this new staff wants to pick
- 14:38Speaker 1: these players and have the right fit for them. Yeah,
- 14:40Speaker 1: five picks out of the first seventy four James. But
- 14:42Speaker 1: here's something also to look at when I talk about
- 14:44Speaker 1: Bobby Slowitt coming over from the forty nine ers quarterbacks.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Height's not really a big deal to them, right. Rock
- 14:51Speaker 1: Purdy was maybe six feet so if Bryce Young at
- 14:55Speaker 1: five ten and change whatever he was, is a concern
- 14:59Speaker 1: for the Carolina Panthers, which we don't know. The Houston
- 15:03Speaker 1: Texas been gladly welcome them, which is why they probably
- 15:05Speaker 1: said we'll fit it too. We'll take either one of
- 15:08Speaker 1: these quarterbacks because we think both of them will fit
- 15:11Speaker 1: with what we're trying to do in our scheme. They
- 15:13Speaker 1: moved up to one. Maybe that meant they were sweeter
- 15:16Speaker 1: on one than the other, but again they seem very
- 15:18Speaker 1: comfortable by not making that move Andrew and staying it
- 15:21Speaker 1: too with either one of these quarterback prospects. Frank Reich
- 15:25Speaker 1: earlier today was asked a quarterback have to be a
- 15:28Speaker 1: certain height, He would not go there. He was pressed,
- 15:32Speaker 1: what exactly are you looking for in a quarterback, and
- 15:35Speaker 1: he made some joke about that would be like KFC
- 15:38Speaker 1: giving away their their secret recipe. I never thought about
- 15:42Speaker 1: that jokes on Monday, but yeah, okay, so there's that.
- 15:46Speaker 1: We'll get that for you a little bit later. Thank you, Steve,
- 15:47Speaker 1: Thank you, James. Coming up. Jordan Love is the guy
- 15:50Speaker 1: right right? We think? Ye, how exactly is Jordan Love
- 15:55Speaker 1: getting ready to take over some unique insights? Straight ahead?
- 16:00Speaker 1: You're watching NFL now on a Monday. Jordan Love comes
- 16:11Speaker 1: in the quarterback for the Green Bay package while I
- 16:16Speaker 1: stay your most Oh my godness, Jordan Love made them
- 16:20Speaker 1: hey pill devotion, touch down pass play. I'm far down
- 16:24Speaker 1: by Jordan Love. Hey face me, I'm a legiar. I'm like,
- 16:30Speaker 1: let's Fashlove bakes the hand off, he's into the end
- 16:33Speaker 1: zone and he spends the football like a time. What
- 16:38Speaker 1: an interesting and important offseason for Jordan Love. And I
- 16:41Speaker 1: am happy to be joined here today with Steve Calhoun,
- 16:44Speaker 1: private quarterback and receivers coach. And one of your most
- 16:47Speaker 1: important quarterbacks is Jordan Love. And you've worked with him
- 16:51Speaker 1: since his freshman year of high school. Obviously, this offseason
- 16:54Speaker 1: very public trade situation with Aaron Rodgers and it makes
- 16:57Speaker 1: it seem like it's not official yet, but it seems
- 16:59Speaker 1: like this will be Jordan Love's team in Green Bay.
- 17:02Speaker 1: And so Steve, let's jump right into it. What have
- 17:05Speaker 1: your conversations and workouts been like with Love heading into
- 17:09Speaker 1: this offseason repairs to be Love season in Green Bay? Yeah? Absolutely, well,
- 17:14Speaker 1: I mean our conversation has never really changed from from
- 17:18Speaker 1: year one to you know, him just finishing year three.
- 17:21Speaker 1: You know, we just talk about the stuff he needs
- 17:23Speaker 1: to do to prepare to be the best quarterback for
- 17:26Speaker 1: the Green Bay Packers, whether his number is called or
- 17:29Speaker 1: he has to be you know, sit behind another you know,
- 17:31Speaker 1: sit behind Aaron for another year or possibly. But you know, definitely,
- 17:35Speaker 1: I mean it's not like he says, oh my god,
- 17:38Speaker 1: you know, I might have the opportunity to be the
- 17:40Speaker 1: guy now, so now my focus is going to go up.
- 17:43Speaker 1: I'm about to start working out harder. It's just always
- 17:45Speaker 1: the same, you know, we're preparing every day to become
- 17:48Speaker 1: the best Jordan Love that he could possibly be and
- 17:50Speaker 1: work on his fundamentals and it's throwing mechanics and really
- 17:55Speaker 1: understand the playbook as well as you know, Coach La
- 17:57Speaker 1: Florida and Steve, we see some of these workouts with
- 18:00Speaker 1: Jordan right here. Um, you know, I know you've been
- 18:02Speaker 1: working out with him for the last two weeks in
- 18:04Speaker 1: Orange County. Can you give us insight on what you
- 18:06Speaker 1: want to see with Jordan and some of these workouts. Yeah,
- 18:10Speaker 1: I mean, definitely just him to continue to develop as
- 18:14Speaker 1: a passer. The biggest thing for me is, you know,
- 18:16Speaker 1: I'm coaching every small detail from where his left foot
- 18:20Speaker 1: plants and where his you know, his arm is coming
- 18:23Speaker 1: through on a slot. You know, just coaching all those
- 18:25Speaker 1: details and see if he can make the correction without
- 18:28Speaker 1: me saying it, because I won't you know, I won't
- 18:32Speaker 1: be in Green Bay with him. So just by the
- 18:34Speaker 1: way the ball comes out or the fighter the ball is,
- 18:37Speaker 1: he'll understand exactly what he needs to do to make
- 18:39Speaker 1: those adjustments to be a really accurate passer. So just
- 18:44Speaker 1: those and you mentioned the left foot kind of thing
- 18:47Speaker 1: that you're working on with him. With that, I know
- 18:49Speaker 1: we've talked, and you mentioned Matt Lafloor has given Jordan
- 18:52Speaker 1: notes over the last two years. Can you give us
- 18:54Speaker 1: insight on maybe how Matt Lafleur's tips for Jordan play
- 18:58Speaker 1: into how you train him in the offseason. Yeah. Absolutely,
- 19:02Speaker 1: I mean, you know that's that's that's coming from the
- 19:04Speaker 1: head coach. So if he thinks, if Coach Laford thinks
- 19:07Speaker 1: it's important, of course, you know, as he passes information
- 19:10Speaker 1: on the Jordan and Jordan passing on to me. I mean,
- 19:12Speaker 1: that's gonna take That's gonna be the top of my
- 19:15Speaker 1: workout because I have a scheduled workout of what I
- 19:17Speaker 1: want to do with Jordan, you know, every time we
- 19:19Speaker 1: get together. But you know what Coach Laford as is
- 19:22Speaker 1: asking Jordan to do, that definitely goes to the top,
- 19:25Speaker 1: you know, to just talk about you know, how he
- 19:27Speaker 1: wants his left foot to be flat on the ground
- 19:29Speaker 1: as he's coming through you know, throwing the football because
- 19:32Speaker 1: that would create more balance, and balance creates more accuracy.
- 19:35Speaker 1: So you know, it's just a little tips like that.
- 19:38Speaker 1: You know that Coastal Florida is giving Jordan and he's
- 19:40Speaker 1: passing along to me, and I definitely prioritize him and
- 19:43Speaker 1: put him at the top of the list of Jordan's
- 19:44Speaker 1: workouts and Steve. There's a lot of Packers fans who
- 19:47Speaker 1: were excited about the opportunity to see Jordan love. I
- 19:50Speaker 1: know some of the clips we showed show him throwing
- 19:52Speaker 1: to Romeo Dubes. Can you give us insight, I know
- 19:55Speaker 1: you're working out with him today, maybe what today's workout
- 19:58Speaker 1: would look like for Jordan's love for Packers fans wanting
- 20:00Speaker 1: to know. Yeah, well, you know, with Romeo, you know,
- 20:03Speaker 1: I've I've actually been training since college, so you know,
- 20:05Speaker 1: he's very familiar with myself and my program, and also
- 20:08Speaker 1: with Jordan, Um, you know, I mean we're just really
- 20:11Speaker 1: kind of just starting at the basics, you know, especially
- 20:13Speaker 1: with Romeo. You know, he's not in the full running.
- 20:15Speaker 1: He's really just been hitting the hard in the rate room,
- 20:17Speaker 1: getting his body prepared for the NFL. But yeah, we
- 20:20Speaker 1: just want to work at the top of the route,
- 20:22Speaker 1: you know, whether it's some out routes like you see
- 20:24Speaker 1: right there, or some curls or some dig routes. You know,
- 20:27Speaker 1: we just want to work at the top and just
- 20:28Speaker 1: kind of build our way up to running a full
- 20:31Speaker 1: route and just start to get into their route tree
- 20:33Speaker 1: and their playbook. So I'm sure there's going to be
- 20:36Speaker 1: more guys coming out here to California, Christian Walkins and
- 20:40Speaker 1: also Aaron Jones. I know that Jordan had mentioned to
- 20:43Speaker 1: me that they're planning on coming out just to start
- 20:45Speaker 1: to get that time in, you know. But but you know,
- 20:48Speaker 1: with these clips you see here, you just want to
- 20:50Speaker 1: start to build up. You don't want to go, you know,
- 20:52Speaker 1: from zero to one hundred. We just want to start,
- 20:54Speaker 1: you know, real slow and work the top of the routes,
- 20:57Speaker 1: get you know, get Georgian's footwork, the time up with
- 20:59Speaker 1: Romeos top of the routdale and then we'll start to
- 21:02Speaker 1: put it all together here in the next few weeks. Stephen,
- 21:05Speaker 1: you mentioned that incoming work with Aaron Jones. I spent
- 21:08Speaker 1: some time with him on GMFB and he had great
- 21:10Speaker 1: things to say about Jordan Love and his rating this
- 21:12Speaker 1: when he ends up being the guy for the Packers.
- 21:14Speaker 1: But I want to transition to another quarterback you work
- 21:16Speaker 1: with as well, who's having another important offseason. Tennessee quarterback
- 21:20Speaker 1: Handon Hooker was in the Heisman race one SEC Offensive
- 21:23Speaker 1: Player of the Year before tearing that acl. What have
- 21:25Speaker 1: you seen from him in his workouts as he's four
- 21:28Speaker 1: months removed from that injury. Yeah, wow, just the detail,
- 21:35Speaker 1: the focus, the drive to you know, to rehab, you know,
- 21:39Speaker 1: five six days a week, you know, just to try
- 21:42Speaker 1: to stay ahead of the curve as far as you know,
- 21:44Speaker 1: trying to get back you know, for training cap you know,
- 21:48Speaker 1: but as you see hearing these clips, you know, he
- 21:50Speaker 1: just got clear to throw standing up, you know, this
- 21:53Speaker 1: past Monday, last week Monday, so you know, I had
- 21:56Speaker 1: him out there with Jordan. Um. You know, he got
- 21:58Speaker 1: a chance to see, you know, some of the footwork
- 22:00Speaker 1: that's Jordan does that they do, you know in the
- 22:02Speaker 1: NFL versus you know, what they're doing at Tennessee. So
- 22:05Speaker 1: Jordan was a great sounding board for hinding not only
- 22:08Speaker 1: talking about the footwork, but just talking about how he's
- 22:10Speaker 1: going to come in as a rookie. Um, and you
- 22:12Speaker 1: know they're gonna you know, obviously build a great relationship,
- 22:15Speaker 1: you know, through through me, and you know, I definitely
- 22:17Speaker 1: want to connect you know, those two and anybody else
- 22:20Speaker 1: that's in my kind of like my family tree. I'm
- 22:23Speaker 1: armed in dangerous you know, to be able to pass
- 22:25Speaker 1: information back and forth my older guys and given knowledge
- 22:28Speaker 1: to the younger guys. You're just kind of what they
- 22:29Speaker 1: can expect. But Hindon has been doing a great job,
- 22:32Speaker 1: you know, just you know, he's anxious, you know, if
- 22:34Speaker 1: he wanted to start to take a drop, but the
- 22:36Speaker 1: doctors like, hey, to take it slow, and so I
- 22:38Speaker 1: got to really, you know, be on him about not
- 22:41Speaker 1: really trying to push it, you know. So we're just
- 22:43Speaker 1: standing and thrown right now, you know, the same thing
- 22:44Speaker 1: at the top of the routes, you know. But he's
- 22:46Speaker 1: progressing really nicely and I'm looking forward to see, you know,
- 22:49Speaker 1: where he lends in the draft. Absolutely clear to throw
- 22:52Speaker 1: standing up is definitely a big step for Hand and
- 22:55Speaker 1: Hooker as well. And thank you Steve for all the
- 22:57Speaker 1: info and insight you're giving us on Jordan Love and
- 23:00Speaker 1: Hand and Hooker. Looking forward to more from those workouts
- 23:02Speaker 1: in Orange County. Absolutely appreciate you guys having me at all, right, see,
- 23:06Speaker 1: thank you Cam, thank you coming up next. That guy
- 23:09Speaker 1: sitting down at one buck Place to do quarterback in
- 23:12Speaker 1: the Bay Bucketeers, everybody Mayfield joining us next. NFL now
- 23:18Speaker 1: NFL Network, Scissors in charge. It's amazing to look back
- 23:24Speaker 1: on some of the great moments of twenty fourteen or
- 23:26Speaker 1: twenty twenty two. Remember I'm sorry and think about Week
- 23:29Speaker 1: fourteen and how great this was. I was in the
- 23:31Speaker 1: building this day. Don't know that I've ever seen anything
- 23:34Speaker 1: like it, Baker Mayfield, Like what thirty six hours after
- 23:38Speaker 1: landing in Los Angeles led this amazing comeback, the touchdown
- 23:41Speaker 1: down the sideline of Van Jefferson as remarkable a comeback
- 23:45Speaker 1: considering the circumstances as I think I have ever seen.
- 23:49Speaker 1: And now here he is today citing his new contract
- 23:53Speaker 1: at one Buck Place, the new quarterback of the Tampa
- 23:57Speaker 1: Bay Bucket ears fresh off the podium and live now
- 24:00Speaker 1: on Bucks Cam. Baker Mayfield, how how does it feel
- 24:03Speaker 1: to be a buccaneer? It feels pretty good. It feels
- 24:08Speaker 1: feels different to say that, but it feels really good. Yeah,
- 24:11Speaker 1: Baker the buck Why the Bucks, Baker? You know what
- 24:17Speaker 1: it's uh, They've historically had success and obviously in recent
- 24:21Speaker 1: years as well. To me, I want to come into
- 24:23Speaker 1: a place where I'm able to compete and able to
- 24:27Speaker 1: showcase my talents for you know, the next chapter of
- 24:31Speaker 1: my career. I think everything happens for reasons, so I'm
- 24:33Speaker 1: excited to see where this journey goes. Hey, we showed
- 24:35Speaker 1: that video there a week fourteen last year, which was
- 24:38Speaker 1: just ridiculous considering the circumstances here. Big picture though, what
- 24:43Speaker 1: was that month, like for you in La with Sean mcfigh, Like,
- 24:48Speaker 1: what'd you get at of that? It was a WorldWind.
- 24:53Speaker 1: I'll say that definitely not how I drew it up,
- 24:56Speaker 1: but it it taught me just to roll with the punches,
- 25:00Speaker 1: to be patient, and I was having fun playing ball again,
- 25:03Speaker 1: I'll say that they made it fun obviously, you know
- 25:06Speaker 1: the situation I stepped into. They were already eliminated from
- 25:08Speaker 1: the playoffs, so there was really nothing to lose, so
- 25:11Speaker 1: let's just go play ball, have fun, enjoy it and
- 25:13Speaker 1: getting to know my teammates on you know, quick notice.
- 25:16Speaker 1: It was always enjoyable and then we'll share those memories
- 25:19Speaker 1: for a lifetime. Yeah, and they loved you here. I
- 25:21Speaker 1: know they wanted you back here. Obviously that didn't work out.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford's back and healthy and they're looking at a
- 25:25Speaker 1: new season here and now you're moving on to Tampa. Here, Baker,
- 25:28Speaker 1: it's been four teams in like nine months. It has
- 25:32Speaker 1: been a year. I saw the post from Emily saying
- 25:37Speaker 1: happy place now you're wife, you guys are in Tampa.
- 25:39Speaker 1: This is a happy place now, Like, what have these
- 25:43Speaker 1: last nine months been? Like? Have you had a chance
- 25:46Speaker 1: to reflect on this journey. I've had a little bit
- 25:51Speaker 1: of time. You know, the off season really didn't start
- 25:55Speaker 1: until a few weeks ago. We finally had a chance
- 25:57Speaker 1: to move out of Cleveland and move out of Charlotte.
- 26:00Speaker 1: But this past this past year has been a lot
- 26:04Speaker 1: of a lot of learning, a lot of growth, you know,
- 26:06Speaker 1: taking a step back and trusting in God's plan and
- 26:10Speaker 1: you know, wherever I'm supposed to be, He's gonna put
- 26:12Speaker 1: me there, and I need to trust that. And so
- 26:14Speaker 1: it's been it's been amazing to see where He's taken
- 26:16Speaker 1: me and us. And you know, I'm so excited for
- 26:19Speaker 1: this next chapter and being in Tampa and uh, you know,
- 26:22Speaker 1: seeing what this place has to offer. And obviously it's
- 26:24Speaker 1: a great team. So I'm excited to join and see
- 26:27Speaker 1: how I can help. I don't want to make it
- 26:30Speaker 1: seem like we're sitting on the cash. But you went there,
- 26:31Speaker 1: you said a lot of growth. Where do you think
- 26:34Speaker 1: the growth spin? If you're willing to go there to
- 26:39Speaker 1: say it one more time, you said, there's been a
- 26:41Speaker 1: lot of growth. Where do you think the growth spin? Oh? Um,
- 26:48Speaker 1: all over? I think you know, when I had to
- 26:51Speaker 1: take the back seat in Carolina and just how can
- 26:55Speaker 1: I affect our team? How can I help us win
- 26:57Speaker 1: in whatever role or capacity I'm in. You know what,
- 27:02Speaker 1: I know I have a lot to offer. I've played
- 27:03Speaker 1: a lot of ball, but I know I'm a great teammate,
- 27:06Speaker 1: So how can I help this team win? And that's
- 27:09Speaker 1: that was a huge thing for me, to not being
- 27:11Speaker 1: the starting quarterback but also still helping us win and
- 27:14Speaker 1: how can I continue to push everybody else around me
- 27:16Speaker 1: and through that process and it's um, it was definitely
- 27:20Speaker 1: teaching me patients. Not something that comes natural for me,
- 27:23Speaker 1: but I enjoyed it. Hey, what are the Bucks told
- 27:26Speaker 1: you about the offense you're walking into, about the pieces
- 27:29Speaker 1: you're gonna work with about? I mean, equally as important,
- 27:32Speaker 1: I would think, you know what their quarterback plans are
- 27:35Speaker 1: potentially in the draft, if they have any quarterback plans. Yeah, obviously,
- 27:41Speaker 1: you know, got some some veterans here, Chris Godwin, Mike Evans,
- 27:44Speaker 1: and then bringing back Russell Gage as well, got some
- 27:47Speaker 1: young talent in the running back room and also Kadot
- 27:51Speaker 1: and the tight end, so U you know what, it's
- 27:54Speaker 1: going to be a competition. They're very straightforward when they
- 27:57Speaker 1: tell me that it's going to be a competition between
- 27:58Speaker 1: Kyle and I and I enjoy that, and I hope
- 28:00Speaker 1: Kyle does as well. That it's competition brings the best
- 28:03Speaker 1: out of everybody. So let's enjoy. Let's go together, let's
- 28:05Speaker 1: push this team, and we should all have the same
- 28:08Speaker 1: goal in mind. That's the win at all come February.
- 28:10Speaker 1: So how can we go through this process and make
- 28:12Speaker 1: sure everybody's getting better along the way, and let's just
- 28:15Speaker 1: enjoy it. But you know, when it comes to the
- 28:17Speaker 1: draft plans, I mean I landed in Tampa probably about
- 28:20Speaker 1: twelve hours ago, so I don't have much for you there. Yeah,
- 28:23Speaker 1: totally getting um. We found this while going through the
- 28:26Speaker 1: Google machine. Want to show you here one last thing.
- 28:29Speaker 1: A couple of years ago, you and Tom Brady sat
- 28:30Speaker 1: down for that NFL one hundred video, which was awesome,
- 28:32Speaker 1: like Jim Brown and Barry Sanders and at se Quon
- 28:35Speaker 1: jumping over tables and everything like that. Yeah, would you
- 28:40Speaker 1: ever imagine Baker when you sat here that day, that
- 28:44Speaker 1: one day. I don't want to say replaced because look
- 28:46Speaker 1: it's Tom Brady. Don't replace Tom Brady, but that you
- 28:49Speaker 1: would be the next guy up after Tom Brady. Um No, no,
- 28:57Speaker 1: never would have imagined that. Oddly enough, that was filmed
- 29:00Speaker 1: in Foxborough. But yeah, like I said it earlier in
- 29:04Speaker 1: our press friends that I'm not Tom. I'm not going
- 29:07Speaker 1: to try and beat Tom. He's the greatest quarterback to
- 29:08Speaker 1: ever play the game and he deserves that recognition. I'm
- 29:12Speaker 1: gonna be myself and Tom was himself. I think all
- 29:15Speaker 1: the greats to try and try and do it their
- 29:17Speaker 1: own way, and so I respect everything he did. And
- 29:20Speaker 1: obviously people around here have worked with him, so I'm
- 29:22Speaker 1: gonna try and pick their brain about how he did it,
- 29:25Speaker 1: how he operated, and certain things that you know, we're
- 29:27Speaker 1: the difference makers and who he is. So I'm excited
- 29:30Speaker 1: about it. Those are those are big shoes to fill,
- 29:34Speaker 1: but I'm just gonna try and wear my own totally.
- 29:36Speaker 1: Getting great commercial and now a great opportunity for you
- 29:39Speaker 1: here in Tampa. Baker Mayfield, congratulations on the new contract
- 29:43Speaker 1: and the new deal and the new team. Good luck
- 29:45Speaker 1: to you, sir. NFL Now is a production of the
