- 0:01It's time for us to begin.
- 0:07If you will, take your Bibles and open them to Mark chapter 10.
- 0:33March, after 10, we'll pick up around verse 13, but let's begin with a word of prayer and then we'll get into our study.
- 0:42Our gracious Father in heaven, we bow before your throne, grateful for the day that you've granted to us and the life that we have been blessed with.
- 0:50We're grateful for the opportunity that we have to serve you and we pray that you will watch over us and protect us and take care of us as we know you have done throughout our
- 1:00lives.
- 1:01We thank you for this night and we thank you for the rain, the nourishment, it provides the ground.
- 1:07We're grateful for the uh weather and we're grateful for the opportunity that we have to be out this evening.
- 1:15And Lord, we also are mindful of those who are in the path of storms, those who are enduring the onslaught of the hurricane uh down in the Gulf.
- 1:25And we also pray that you be with those throughout the world that deal with.
- 1:30difficulties regarding their climate and their weather, and we pray that you will be with them as they go through those difficulties and their needs arise.
- 1:40Lord, we pray that you will be with the congregations in those areas and pray that they might be able to use these opportunities as an opportunity to reach lost souls, for we
- 1:51know that while weather comes and goes, eternity is nigh for each and every one of us.
- 1:57Lord, we pray that you be with us as we go through this period of study.
- 2:00May the things that we say and do be those which are right in accordance with your will.
- 2:05All this we pray and ask in Jesus' name, amen.
- 2:10In Mark chapter 10, verse 13 says, then they brought little children to him that he might touch them.
- 2:19But the disciples rebuked those who brought them.
- 2:23But when Jesus saw it, he was greatly displeased and said, Let the little children come to me and do not forbid them, for of such is the kingdom of God.
- 2:37Here in this passage, the
- 2:40events or transpiring crowds, of course, we know we're always thronging around Jesus, those who were ill, those who were sick, those who had uh issues going on because of uh
- 2:54being demon possessed or being blind or being deaf.
- 2:59People would come to Jesus for many different reasons, and in this scenario,
- 3:04parents and guardians were bringing these little children to be touched or the idea perhaps is to be blessed by Jesus.
- 3:15And it doesn't seem as though that these children had some physical malady or some disease that needed curing.
- 3:23They were just children.
- 3:27And the disciples see what's going on and they start to put a stop to it.
- 3:34They start to tell those and criticize those who are the parents or the people who are the adults who are bringing the children and tell them, stop this.
- 3:46What was Jesus's reaction to the disciples doing that?
- 3:52All right, he was, as the new King James says, greatly displeased.
- 3:59Jesus often empowered the disciples to do things.
- 4:08Jesus did not, in many ways, micromanage the disciples.
- 4:14They followed Him, but Jesus would often send them somewhere with the authority and with the permission to do things.
- 4:22And certainly it was the case that when...
- 4:25The crowds were around Jesus.
- 4:27The disciples had very specific responsibilities in regards to, you know, essentially being the barrier between him and the crowds.
- 4:38We read not too long ago in a few chapters back that there was an occasion where the multitudes were around thronging Jesus for such an extended period of time that the
- 4:47disciples never even had a time to eat during the day.
- 4:53But in this occasion, as these events are occurring, Jesus is not happy with their choice.
- 5:03He's not happy with what they are doing.
- 5:06He is not happy with the fact that they are rebuking these individuals for bringing these children to Jesus.
- 5:15Now the idea here is that these parents, these guardians, the individuals who are bringing them
- 5:22are doing so because they desire for these little children to be in the presence of Jesus.
- 5:35When the text says that he was greatly displeased, he said to them, Let the little children come to me and do not forbid them for of such is the kingdom of God Assuredly I
- 5:52say to you whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it Jesus is both going to admonish
- 6:04the apostles in regards to the actual scenario, but Jesus will further teach upon that scenario.
- 6:15First, Jesus says, not to forbid them because of this or of such are the kingdom of heaven.
- 6:25What does he mean by of such are the kingdom of God?
- 6:31You mean that only the kingdom is populated with just children?
- 6:39Alright, so there's the first aspect of they're innocent.
- 6:45Now, this is one of those passages that flies in the face of all Calvinism, because as far as Calvinism is concerned, children are what?
- 6:57totally depraved.
- 6:59That any individual born is born with the inherited sin of Adam, with an evil disposition, with an evil nature, and that they are totally and inherently depraved.
- 7:13Kind of odd considering Jesus says that of such is the kingdom of God.
- 7:22Jesus in no passage anywhere gives any indication to a depraved nature or to an inherited sin nature in humanity.
- 7:38Now, does Jesus attribute the fact that Satan rules over humanity?
- 7:47Does Jesus at one point call
- 7:49uh Satan, the ruler of this world?
- 7:54He does.
- 7:57But is he trying to imply that no one has a say because they're born into sin because of Adam and Eve's sin in the garden?
- 8:06No.
- 8:08The fact of the scenario is Jesus is indicating these little children are innocent, they are good, and their nature is the Kingdom of God.
- 8:24that we are to be those who return to and behave as though we are innocent, we are good, we are not those who are involving ourselves in sin and in depravity.
- 8:41all throughout scripture.
- 8:45The text is incredibly clear.
- 8:47We are guilty of sin when we do what?
- 8:54Sin.
- 8:55When we by choice do that which is wrong.
- 9:02Was Eve guilty of sin when at the very moment the serpent tempted her?
- 9:12When did Eve become guilty of sin?
- 9:16when she ate of the fruit?
- 9:19When did Adam become guilty of the sin?
- 9:24When he ate of the fruit.
- 9:26Question.
- 9:28If they became guilty of sin when they acted and chose to transgress the law of God, why is it that someone should believe that from that point forward everyone should be guilty
- 9:39of the sin when they never participated in it?
- 9:45The fact of the matter is the text of scripture is incredibly and abundantly clear.
- 9:53You're guilty of sin when you commit sin.
- 9:58When you, knowing the difference between good and evil, choose to do that which is in violation of the law of God.
- 10:09Sin, according to John, is the transgression
- 10:15of the law.
- 10:18Can you transgress something when you haven't been born?
- 10:23Did you transgress something by being born?
- 10:27No.
- 10:33Could you have been born as a result of someone's sin?
- 10:41Certainly you could have.
- 10:43What's one biblical example?
- 10:50m Adultery?
- 10:54Give me an account, someone who we know or an occasion where there was a child born because of sin.
- 11:05All right.
- 11:06ah You have David and Bathsheba, they commit adultery.
- 11:10Nine months later, here comes a baby.
- 11:13All right.
- 11:14Did the baby participate in the sin?
- 11:18Was the baby guilty of the adultery?
- 11:23No.
- 11:25Just the same way, in a very sad and unfortunate way, you have scenarios where you have parents, specifically a mother, who may abuse drugs while she's pregnant, and you have a
- 11:39baby born addicted to an illicit drug.
- 11:45They've never done anything.
- 11:47They didn't commit any sin.
- 11:50They are going to bear the consequences of other people's sins.
- 11:55but it doesn't mean they're guilty of it.
- 11:58The text of scripture.
- 12:02never, anywhere tells us that babies or little children have sin.
- 12:14Not one place.
- 12:17As a matter of fact, everything in all of scripture points to there is no sin against anyone who is not accountable for their actions because they cannot understand good or
- 12:31evil.
- 12:34What changed in the garden when Adam and Eve ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil?
- 12:46they suddenly understood the difference between good and evil.
- 12:53And now they understand transgression.
- 12:57Now they are guilty of the law.
- 13:00Yes.
- 13:11All right, Ezekiel chapter 18 verse 20 is a great one.
- 13:16We'll just turn over there and read that.
- 13:1918 verse 20.
- 13:29You really have in Ezekiel 18 the entire text from verse 1 all the way to verse 20 and even a little bit more than that is uh dealing with the same topic but that is the fact
- 13:42that God holds accountable those who transgress the law and that God does not hold accountable the righteous for the sins of the wicked nor does He release the wicked
- 13:55because of the righteousness of the righteous.
- 13:57Alright, so verse 19 says, chapter 18, And yet you say, Why should the Son not bear the guilt of the Father?
- 14:06Because the Son has done what is lawful and right, and has kept all my statutes, and observed them, he shall surely live.
- 14:15The soul who sins shall die.
- 14:18The Son shall not bear the guilt of the Father, nor the Father bear the guilt of the Son.
- 14:24the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself." Now, if God, from the beginning of creation, from the time that
- 14:37Adam and Eve were in the garden, violated that very statement by holding every person who had ever been born accountable for the sin of Adam and Eve, he wouldn't be a very just
- 14:48God, would he?
- 14:50He certainly would be contradicting himself when here in Ezekiel he says, I will not hold the father guilty for the sins of the son, and I will not hold the son guilty for the sins
- 15:03of the father.
- 15:06And yet there are those who would argue and who would postulate that from the moment that Adam and Eve for took of that fruit, every person who has ever been born from that point
- 15:19forward
- 15:20was guilty of their sin.
- 15:23Nonsense.
- 15:25The fact of the matter is, God has made it clear in that passage and many, many more that we are guilty when we sin.
- 15:35Over in the book of Revelation, when it says that we will be held in account, it says that we will be held accountable for the things which we have done in the body.
- 15:50That means we're not held accountable for the things which our parents did in their bodies, nor accountable for the things which Adam did in his body, but rather we are
- 16:00guilty or we are justified by the things which we do.
- 16:07He also says, assuredly, verse 15, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.
- 16:18What is it about the nature of little children do you think that Jesus is pointing out in regards to entering the kingdom of God?
- 16:30Purity?
- 16:34When you teach a little child, most of the time, are they constantly arguing back with you, no, that's not true, that's not true, no, no.
- 16:45What are children?
- 16:47They're sponges.
- 16:48They just soak up the things that are around them.
- 16:53Now, there are some children who are of the opinion that they are the smartest living being on the planet.
- 17:00and will insist that they know everything, but in general, the characteristic of a little child is that they are curious, they're interested, they're desirous of learning, they
- 17:13want to be taught, they ask questions incessantly, but they also accept the answers.
- 17:22And Jesus is telling the Jews and telling the disciples that
- 17:30They are to be those who are willing to accept the kingdom as little children.
- 17:38In stark contrast though, much of the Jewish society will reject the kingdom because it wasn't what they had in mind.
- 17:52When the kingdom is finally presented to them, that wasn't what they were looking for.
- 17:59So instead of accepting it because it's what God gave them and it was what God had promised them and it was what they should have had and needed,
- 18:08They said, nope, not interested.
- 18:11I'm looking for the physical kingdom where there's a physical king sitting on a physical throne where we can go back to being in power and great and mighty and not under the rule
- 18:22of the Roman Empire.
- 18:24That was the kingdom they were looking for.
- 18:26And Jesus says, if you don't accept the kingdom as it is,
- 18:33recognizing you're not going to get a say in how it comes.
- 18:42I would say that it should be true and it should be obvious that children don't have a whole lot of say in what happens to them.
- 18:52Although I think there's a lot of houses anymore where the children are the ones who run the entire house.
- 18:57So that's probably not as true as it used to be.
- 19:00But it should be the case that children don't get a whole lot of say in what happens to them.
- 19:06They accept it as it comes and certainly it is the case that we as the children of God
- 19:13God does not ask us, how do you think I should do this?
- 19:17And if he did, would it be better off for it or worse?
- 19:22Worse.
- 19:25Jesus here illustrates that God as the Father is doing what is good on behalf of his children.
- 19:40And as elsewhere stated,
- 19:42that God is pleased to give the Kingdom to His children.
- 19:51but they've got to be willing to accept it on God's terms, not theirs.
- 19:56And that's part of what Jesus is teaching his disciples.
- 20:00He took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them concerning the little children.
- 20:09You also see here the recognition at times of the disciples where they would
- 20:20They would see through the mundane, they would see through the day to day, and on occasion, they would suddenly look at Jesus and really realize who He was.
- 20:32For instance, when Jesus spoke and the Sea of Galilee calmed, and they were amazed at who He was and the authority that He had to be able to calm the seas.
- 20:50There are times and occasions where you finally see the disciples moving away from their physical interaction with Jesus and realizing His power, His authority.
- 21:07And you see in those moments that that's how they should have viewed Him.
- 21:13That's how they should have understood Him during these other times.
- 21:19and that's how little children would see Jesus.
- 21:24Now as he was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before him and asked him, Good teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
- 21:36So Jesus said to him, Why do you call me good?
- 21:40No one is good but one, that is God.
- 21:43You know the commandments.
- 21:45Do not commit adultery.
- 21:46Do not murder.
- 21:47Do not steal.
- 21:48Do not bear false witness.
- 21:49Do not defraud.
- 21:51Honor your father and your mother.
- 21:54Now where do all these commandments come from?
- 22:00All right, God gave them to Moses.
- 22:03These are part of the Ten Commandments that God gave to Moses.
- 22:07uh Which one is missing?
- 22:14Or which ones?
- 22:17All right?
- 22:19Although, thou shall not murder, do not murder is included here, which by the way, Jesus in the Greek, as recorded here in Mark, says that thou shalt not kill means do not murder.
- 22:35He interprets the definition of kill there, because if it was no one has authority to kill anyone,
- 22:47then what would that say about everyone who executed judgment on someone who had been found guilty of murdering someone else?
- 22:58That they're just as guilty of murder.
- 23:01That's not what God teaches.
- 23:03Go back, before we get back on the other topics since we chased the rabbit already, go back to Genesis chapter 10.
- 23:30Actually, Genesis chapter 9.
- 23:31Let's see here.
- 23:33Genesis chapter 9.
- 23:35So, Noah and his family have just gotten off of the ark, and uh we read verse 4, you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.
- 23:47Surely for your lifeblood I will demand a reckoning.
- 23:51From the hand of every beast I will require it, and from the hand of every, and from the hand of man.
- 23:58From the hand of every man's brother I will require the life of man.
- 24:02Whoever sheds man's blood, by man his blood shall be shed.
- 24:06For in the image of God He made man.
- 24:10And as for you, be fruitful and multiply, bring forth abundantly in the earth and multiply in it." God pronounces corporal judgment against those who take the life of another.
- 24:31To be.
- 24:34quite honest about it, there would probably be far fewer murders if the murderer's life was taken after the first murder.
- 24:48because many of the murders are committed by repeat offenders.
- 24:54And if their life was taken after the first one, the number of the total amount would probably come down.
- 25:03God said that it was wholly justified that if someone murders someone else that their life is forfeit.
- 25:16Now, you further have additional instructions that are given under the Law of Moses regarding when that murder or that taking of another person's life was accidental.
- 25:31You had then on that, in that scenario, you had the cities of refuge there within Israel, six of them, basically located around the nation where somebody could get to one pretty
- 25:43quickly from anywhere.
- 25:45And the scenario was that if you took the life of someone, their near kinsman could take your life as a result of it, but if it had been accidental, you could flee to the city of
- 25:59refuge and there essentially go through a process of being put on trial to verify whether or not the thing had been accidental or intentional.
- 26:07And were you protected by the city of refuge if it was found to be intentional?
- 26:13No.
- 26:14You were handed over to the one who was seeking your life and your life was over.
- 26:21ah Now that's it was supposed to work, not exactly how Israel practiced it.
- 26:26But the cities were there for someone who had accidentally taken the life of someone else to be able to flee to and have the ability to remain there and have the uh ability to
- 26:39continue out their life.
- 26:41They had to remain in that city for how long?
- 26:46Alright, till the death and changing of the high priest.
- 26:49So you better hope if that situation came to you, the high priest was really old and not really young because that was a position for life.
- 26:58So if he was, you know, 35 when he got in and he was 36 when you got there, he might be there for a while and you might be living in that city for the rest of your life.
- 27:10So God established
- 27:13from the very beginning, going all the way back to the days of Noah, that when you committed murder, your life was forfeit.
- 27:22Now, if it is the case that the command, thou shalt not kill, equally applies to the murderer and to the executioner of judgment against the murderer, that would make the one
- 27:36who's the executioner of judgment against the murder equally guilty of sinning as the murderer.
- 27:42and that's simply not the case, is taking the life of an individual who is guilty of murder wrong.
- 27:56No.
- 27:58As a matter of fact, it is right.
- 28:02Now.
- 28:05Should we be careful and judicial to make sure that the person who's accused of taking the life of another is actually the person who did take that life before we carry out
- 28:21judgment?
- 28:23Certainly.
- 28:24But Jesus gives us a clear interpretation of thou shalt not kill.
- 28:32in the New Testament right here in this text when he says and interprets it in the Greek because the word kill and murder are not always differentiated in the Hebrew but in the
- 28:43Greek they are.
- 28:45Jesus uses the term for murder, not the term for killing, not the term for an accidental death, not for the term of just ending a person's life but for murder.
- 28:55But then notice as well, by trying to remember what it was I was talking about before I got off on that.
- 29:02oh
- 29:02What other commandments did he leave out here?
- 29:09Alright, thou shalt not covet.
- 29:13This individual is going to come to him and as we read in verse 17 as he was going out, this one came running.
- 29:25He is anxious to see Jesus.
- 29:30He is desirous of seeing Jesus.
- 29:34He has an important question.
- 29:37He's running.
- 29:39And when he arrives, he says, good teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
- 29:52Isn't that the question we wish more people would ask?
- 30:01then why does Jesus quibble about the way he approaches him before he answers the question?
- 30:14All right?
- 30:16Jesus knew this young man's problem before the young man arrived.
- 30:32I think it's, I think it is definitely a teaching occasion.
- 30:38But I think it's for more than just the disciples.
- 30:45We want, by we, Christians, desire for those who are lost, who are not saved and not in a right relationship with God, we want them to be aware of their scenario and change it.
- 31:06But does it do them any good to ignore their actual problem and pretend that they're safe?
- 31:16Do we get any benefit or do they get any benefit if we just, you know what, we'll just act like you're saved even though you didn't change?
- 31:28No.
- 31:31This individual comes running to Jesus and he greets him with a term, good rabbi.
- 31:44Teacher.
- 31:47This is not, by the way, an uncommon greeting in the first century for someone to greet a rabbi in this way, which perhaps is why Jesus says there's no one good but God.
- 32:06Jesus responds, Why do you call me good?
- 32:11There could be a couple of things going on here.
- 32:14Jesus could be asking, in essence, who were you and how is it you've come to this conclusion?
- 32:24but I don't think that's it.
- 32:27I think what Jesus is pointing or pushing back against is a culture that acted as though all rabbis were equally good.
- 32:40A culture that said, here's a rabbi and we'll accept what he teaches and there's a rabbi and we'll accept what he teaches and here's a rabbi and we'll accept what he teaches and
- 32:49we'll just pull them all to see what we should do.
- 32:58Are we judged by the opinions and the doctrines of our teachers?
- 33:06Or are we judged by the Word of God?
- 33:12There's the problem.
- 33:16Should this individual have been able to determine what he needed to do in order to have eternal life without going to a rabbi?
- 33:32Yeah, which is exactly why Jesus asked him the question that he asked him when he follows up with this.
- 33:40First he says, why do you call me good?
- 33:42No one is good but one, that is God.
- 33:46Your teacher, your rabbis, your religiously schooled individuals are not on the same level as God.
- 33:59So if you want to know
- 34:01what you need to do in order to inherit eternal life, you should not accept the opinion of your teacher, your preacher, your rabbi, your person who claims to be an authority in
- 34:16religion.
- 34:18You should only accept the opinion of God, because the rest of them will not be your judge.
- 34:30They will not be the one you stand before on the day of judgment.
- 34:34He will be.
- 34:37At which point, their referral won't do you any good.
- 34:43no matter what they said over your grave, no matter what they said when you passed away and how wonderfully they preached that sermon getting you straight into heaven.
- 34:53God didn't listen to them.
- 35:00He says, why do you call me good?
- 35:03No one is good, but one that is God.
- 35:06Then he says, now notice the contrast.
- 35:09You've come to a rabbi, but he says, you know the commandments.
- 35:22Jesus is getting to the point that this individual has had access to the law himself.
- 35:33and he should have been able to determine for himself what he needed to do.
- 35:39He should have been holding himself accountable to the law, not accountable to the opinions of teachers.
- 35:49So he says, you know the commandments, do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not bear false witness, do not defraud.
- 36:01honor your father and your mother and he answered and said to him, teach her all these things I have kept from my youth.
- 36:10Indicating he had been taught these things.
- 36:13He knew the law.
- 36:17Then Jesus looking at him, loved him and said to him, one thing you lack.
- 36:26Now...
- 36:29I don't want to draw more out of this than is here, but I honestly believe this is here.
- 36:36I don't believe this is the first rabbi that he's been to.
- 36:41I don't think this is the first teacher he's asked this question to.
- 36:46I think this is the first teacher who told him the truth.
- 36:51I think this is the first occasion where a teacher loved him enough.
- 37:01tell him what he needed to hear.
- 37:06The text says, Jesus looking at Him, loved Him, and said to Him, one thing you lack, go your way, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.
- 37:27and come take up the cross and follow me.
- 37:35as Jesus looks at this young man.
- 37:41who was so anxious in such a hurry to run to Jesus to ask this important question.
- 37:55Jesus loves him enough to give him the answer.
- 38:03before going back into the text, may I say, we do no one any good.
- 38:10when they ask us a question about a religious matter or a biblical matter, and they are sincere in their asking, and we don't tell them the truth.
- 38:24We may help them feel better about themselves if we don't tell them the truth, but we don't do them any good.
- 38:34The only good that we can do, the only expression of love that we can offer is to tell them the truth.
- 38:48Jesus said, go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven.
- 39:02Jesus, as he replies to this young man, indicates that this man's account is bankrupt.
- 39:15that he's overdrawn.
- 39:18You would have thought after all he's kept all these commandments that surely uh his eternal bank account was sitting pretty good, right?
- 39:30After all, he's avoided all these evil things, he's avoided all these sinful things, he's done good, he's honored his father and his mother, surely he has been worthy of some
- 39:44marginal balance from the Lord, right?
- 39:52Jesus said, have no account in heaven.
- 39:59Go sell all that you have, give it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.
- 40:14if you are willing to part with the things which you have treasured on earth.
- 40:25Now, as Jesus says this, Jesus isn't giving the same answer that He's given to every single person that has ever had an interaction with Jesus, is He?
- 40:39Jesus didn't give this same instruction to every single individual that he met.
- 40:46I don't remember Jesus ever telling Martha, go sell everything that you have and give it to the poor.
- 40:53Did Jesus tell Mary to go sell everything she had and give it to the poor?
- 40:58If so, she wouldn't have had the ointment to be able to anoint him that was worth a year's wage, would she?
- 41:06Jesus didn't go and tell every one of His followers to take every possession that they have and go and sell it and give it to the poor.
- 41:14Jesus' primary point was not to provide for the poor.
- 41:19As a matter of fact, Jesus made the point and
- 41:22the occasion when his feet were anointed with the oil of spider, this is the pour you have with you always.
- 41:31Jesus did not give this instruction to every single person.
- 41:37Jesus gave this instruction to this person.
- 41:43And the reason is because this young man had a problem.
- 41:51His problem was that His treasure was on earth.
- 41:57And yet He's asking about eternal life.
- 42:03Jesus didn't, by the way, also say, or He did not just say, go and sell everything you have.
- 42:12and give it to the poor.
- 42:14He also said, come, take up your cross and follow me.
- 42:25Jesus doesn't invite very many people to be his disciples.
- 42:33That is a close disciple, an apostle of Jesus.
- 42:41You see here that this young man's life was truly at a fork in the road.
- 42:51and he had the choice, he had the opportunity to be a true disciple of Jesus or to continue down the path that he'd already chosen.
- 43:09But he was sad at this word and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
- 43:19Mark makes it clear.
- 43:26that this was not the answer he was looking for.
- 43:33which meant he had been giving some thought to this.
- 43:37He had been thinking about this question and about its answers.
- 43:45And this wasn't one he was willing to accept.
- 43:50We need to realize when we teach people that there will be times they will ask us questions and we will tell them the truth.
- 44:00and such will end our relationship with them.
- 44:07because the truth is the one thing they're not willing to accept.
- 44:14And that was this young man's situation.
- 44:18And so he went away, sorrowful.
- 44:22And there's no indication of the text that that ever changed, that he ever changed his disposition.
- 44:29Now, could he have later in life?
- 44:31Well, certainly he could have.
- 44:35But now, connect the two contexts.
- 44:40Here's the little children coming to Jesus, desiring simply to be in His presence, their parents and others desiring for them to be blessed by Him.
- 44:57And here's this one with great possessions.
- 45:05Which one did the disciples turn away?
- 45:13which one wasn't willing to hear Jesus?
- 45:20There's a lesson here.
- 45:23It's the same lesson over in James chapter two.
- 45:27That so often the people that we're in a hurry to accept are the people who are not interested in the truth.
- 45:37And the people who were in a hurry to push back against are the ones who are actually willing to have fellowship with Jesus.
- 45:49and the disciples had it backwards.
- 45:52This one got through, but they blocked the little children.
- 45:58And they rebuked the parents of the little children.
- 46:02When the parents of the little children weren't asking for money, they weren't asking for possessions, they weren't asking for riches, they weren't interested in physical things.
- 46:16They were interested in spiritual things.
- 46:19Here comes this rich young ruler, has great possessions, he gets right through.
- 46:27and his only interest is in physical things.
- 46:31All right, thank you for your attention.
