- 0:05Speaker 2: Hester and Hester.
- 0:08Speaker 1: From carrying each other to and Natty to carrying each other.
- 0:12Speaker 3: On the air, it's Control.
- 0:18Speaker 4: Live from the.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Mercedes Benz Baton Rouge Studio. It's off the Bench.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Welcome back in outumb three oh TB one O four
- 0:35Speaker 2: five ESPN Baton Rouge. It is now nine o'clock on
- 0:38Speaker 2: a Tuesday morning. You know what that means. We catch
- 0:41Speaker 2: up with our guy Nick Underhill, New Orleans Dot Football. Nick,
- 0:44Speaker 2: It is always our pleasure. How you doing, sir? Doing fantastic?
- 0:50Speaker 2: You know, I was thinking about this last night and
- 0:52Speaker 2: I was like, all right, well, you know, whe are
- 0:53Speaker 2: some things that we want to make sure that we
- 0:55Speaker 2: hit with Nick. And it's like we always just kind
- 0:57Speaker 2: of it's quarterback situation. Anytime you have a quarterback, it's
- 1:00Speaker 2: always going to be the leader in the clubhouse. And
- 1:02Speaker 2: we've talked about a lot of other positions, you know,
- 1:04Speaker 2: I was like, you know, we hadn't talked a lot
- 1:06Speaker 2: about is the guy that took ninth overall in Kelvin
- 1:10Speaker 2: Banks Junior.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Right, We've talked about.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Pinning, maybe moving to guard and we've talked about some
- 1:14Speaker 2: of the shuffling on the offensive line. We haven't talked
- 1:17Speaker 2: a lot about a top ten player and an offensive
- 1:20Speaker 2: tackle that we've talked about for a long time, but
- 1:23Speaker 2: we hadn't talked about him since he's become a Saint, really,
- 1:26Speaker 2: So I just really wanted to open it up.
- 1:28Speaker 4: And what have you seen from him?
- 1:29Speaker 2: What are you expecting from him after his first couple
- 1:32Speaker 2: days in the Saints uniform?
- 1:34Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I guess in all of our defense, like,
- 1:36Speaker 5: we haven't talked about him a lot because they didn't
- 1:39Speaker 5: do anything at all in these practices with an offensive
- 1:42Speaker 5: line on the tail.
- 1:43Speaker 6: So it's just kind of it's kind.
- 1:44Speaker 5: Of easy to fixate on the quarterback and forget about
- 1:46Speaker 5: the guy that's that's maybe arguably the most important player
- 1:50Speaker 5: on the team right now. Like I feel like if
- 1:52Speaker 5: Kelvin Banks hits, you have a foundational piece him and
- 1:56Speaker 5: Quaga together, you have your identity going forward and kind
- 2:00Speaker 5: of everything else can go wrong. And if you have that,
- 2:02Speaker 5: you still at least have something behind your hat on
- 2:05Speaker 5: and something to build around. And I you know, your identity,
- 2:08Speaker 5: all that stuff, and I'm I'm I'm optimistic about him.
- 2:14Speaker 5: I mean, I think he's incredibly smart. I think it's
- 2:17Speaker 5: hard to miss on a ot at nine now. Granted,
- 2:20Speaker 5: like the Saints have found ways to miss on picks
- 2:22Speaker 5: they shouldn't have missed on a lot over the years.
- 2:25Speaker 5: But I like him. I think he's smart. I think
- 2:27Speaker 5: he's picking things up.
- 2:28Speaker 6: You know, you watch a movie.
- 2:30Speaker 5: He looks athletic. I think he carries himself very maturely.
- 2:35Speaker 5: You know, he can you know, there's just some of
- 2:37Speaker 5: those guys that that can just really kind of explain
- 2:40Speaker 5: the game and talk about it and just it sounds
- 2:44Speaker 5: smart and it gives you confidence in him and and
- 2:46Speaker 5: all that stuff. I think he's one of them guys.
- 2:48Speaker 5: And I will be really surprised if he's not a
- 2:51Speaker 5: good player right away. But yeah, I mean that that's
- 2:55Speaker 5: everything for them. If if Kuaga can take you know,
- 2:58Speaker 5: a little bit of a step next year. I do
- 3:00Speaker 5: think that maybe some of his struggles last year got
- 3:02Speaker 5: overlooked a bit because there was just, you know, an
- 3:05Speaker 5: absolute disaster all the way around him.
- 3:08Speaker 6: You know.
- 3:08Speaker 5: I think there's just some stuff that he can do
- 3:09Speaker 5: a little bit better. But yeah, those two guys hit man, Like,
- 3:13Speaker 5: I feel okay about everything. Like shock cannot be good,
- 3:16Speaker 5: rattler cannot be good, like the defense whatever. But at
- 3:19Speaker 5: least like.
- 3:19Speaker 6: You're you're looking back and you're saying, all right.
- 3:21Speaker 5: Like two of the most expensive positions they've hit on,
- 3:24Speaker 5: and this is the foundation going forward. I think Banks
- 3:27Speaker 5: is going to be that type of guy, and I
- 3:28Speaker 5: expect him to be impact from from day one. I
- 3:31Speaker 5: don't expect to see a ton of struggles some I mean,
- 3:33Speaker 5: obviously he's he's young, but he looks a little bit more.
- 3:37Speaker 5: I don't know, it's.
- 3:38Speaker 6: Tough to say that, but like you know, just kind
- 3:39Speaker 6: of the way he.
- 3:40Speaker 5: Carries himself, like he's coming in with like a little
- 3:42Speaker 5: bit more maturity than some of their other first round
- 3:44Speaker 5: picks that that we've seen in recent years.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Yeah. And the person that they're going to be paving
- 3:49Speaker 3: the way for blocking for we haven't talked to you
- 3:52Speaker 3: a lot about him yet. It is Alvin Kamara. I mean,
- 3:55Speaker 3: a guy that's been, you know, such a high performer
- 3:57Speaker 3: for so long. I mean, the guy's going to be
- 3:59Speaker 3: absolute ancient this year, is gonna be turning thirty before
- 4:02Speaker 3: the season starts. Tell me how you've seen how you
- 4:06Speaker 3: and you see him playing out in this Kelimore offense.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Of course, we saw what he did with uh Saquon
- 4:11Speaker 3: Barkley last year, you know, reviving his career. Of course,
- 4:16Speaker 3: a different type player than Kamara. But how do you
- 4:17Speaker 3: see him fitting in and what can we expect fro him?
- 4:21Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean first like him being thirty, obviously that's tough.
- 4:25Speaker 5: I kind of have faith and how he's gonna how
- 4:27Speaker 5: he's gonna age one day, it's just gonna happen and hit.
- 4:30Speaker 5: But I spent a week with him last year just
- 4:33Speaker 5: at his house, like where he gets all his his
- 4:35Speaker 5: work done and he brings in his team of people.
- 4:38Speaker 6: And all that.
- 4:39Speaker 5: And I'm not exaggerating when I say that, Like he
- 4:42Speaker 5: was on this this table just getting worked on literally
- 4:46Speaker 5: for eight hours a day, like just on a table,
- 4:49Speaker 5: people working on him doing stuff. Like he takes incredible
- 4:52Speaker 5: care of his body. And you know, I think that's
- 4:55Speaker 5: gonna help him. What's not gonna help him is if
- 4:58Speaker 5: he has as many touches as.
- 4:59Speaker 6: He did last year.
- 5:00Speaker 5: I think, you know, if there's anything to be concerned about,
- 5:03Speaker 5: it's it's that he had a career high in touches.
- 5:06Speaker 5: I hope that there is another option at that position
- 5:09Speaker 5: like someone someone that that you know is worthy. It
- 5:11Speaker 5: carries because I think you got to ramp that number
- 5:14Speaker 5: down a little bit and you know, you know, I
- 5:17Speaker 5: think you they put team first all that stuff.
- 5:19Speaker 6: But like I do think keeping him, you know, upright
- 5:23Speaker 6: and going for this year next year.
- 5:25Speaker 5: I mean, he's he's a core piece of you know,
- 5:28Speaker 5: a rebuilding team.
- 5:29Speaker 6: You got him under.
- 5:29Speaker 5: Contract, he isn't going anywhere.
- 5:31Speaker 6: Like, he's a guy that you want.
- 5:32Speaker 5: Around, like helping you set your culture in and making
- 5:35Speaker 5: sure that you know, this is a guy that some
- 5:37Speaker 5: of these young players can look at as they're doing
- 5:39Speaker 5: this rebuild. He's kind of the last bridge to the
- 5:41Speaker 5: past of you know, the old way of doing things
- 5:44Speaker 5: to the new way. But I think he's going to
- 5:48Speaker 5: be good to go. Man. Like the thing with him
- 5:52Speaker 5: after twenty like.
- 5:53Speaker 6: The big issue.
- 5:54Speaker 5: You look, his yards before contact remained the same basically
- 5:58Speaker 5: every single year. It's just the kind deteriorated. And then
- 6:02Speaker 5: you know he's not getting those yards before contact. He's
- 6:04Speaker 5: getting hit quicker. You know, you go from four point
- 6:07Speaker 5: three to three point nine because that yards before contact
- 6:09Speaker 5: has dropped you know, three times to the yard and
- 6:12Speaker 5: there's the difference like right there. If they can keep
- 6:15Speaker 5: that up, like it went.
- 6:16Speaker 6: Up a little bit last year.
- 6:18Speaker 5: They started getting banged up on the line. You saw it, Dipagan.
- 6:21Speaker 5: I think as the line goes, he goes. And I
- 6:23Speaker 5: think if you give him a little bit of space
- 6:25Speaker 5: and that that first guy hitting him as a linebacker,
- 6:27Speaker 5: he still has that contact balance to bounce off those
- 6:30Speaker 5: people and make something happen. But if it's you know,
- 6:34Speaker 5: Jared Verse, like you're you're in trouble and you know,
- 6:36Speaker 5: I think, you know, as the line goes, he'll go,
- 6:39Speaker 5: and yeah, Banks Sauaga, I mean, that's that's the whole
- 6:41Speaker 5: idea behind putting Penning a guard is that he's gonna
- 6:44Speaker 5: be a baller and he's gonna get you those those
- 6:46Speaker 5: yards before contact, you know, in the run game, assuming
- 6:50Speaker 5: he fits or the pass pros. You know that that's
- 6:52Speaker 5: the big question. But if those guys are healthy and
- 6:55Speaker 5: they're blocking for him, I think he's gonna get every
- 6:57Speaker 5: single yard and more. He always has just kind of
- 7:00Speaker 5: you know, the line just hasn't been good the last
- 7:02Speaker 5: couple of years.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Nick, If I was to throw it to the other side,
- 7:06Speaker 2: the defense side of the football, give me two players
- 7:08Speaker 2: the most important young defender on this team and the
- 7:12Speaker 2: most important VET on this team. As far as these
- 7:15Speaker 2: two guys need to show up if the Saints want
- 7:17Speaker 2: to be who they you know, expect to be new coordinator,
- 7:20Speaker 2: a lot of new pieces on defense.
- 7:23Speaker 5: Man, I'm worried about the defense. I a big time
- 7:31Speaker 5: older players easy, older players easy. I think it's to
- 7:34Speaker 5: Mario the young guy.
- 7:35Speaker 6: I don't know, Yeah, I like I kind.
- 7:38Speaker 5: Of want to go wild card and say, like, if
- 7:41Speaker 5: Alante Taylor plays well, maybe they have a little bit
- 7:44Speaker 5: of a of a building block there. If it might
- 7:46Speaker 5: give him a guy that that's worthy of his second
- 7:48Speaker 5: contract like that, those would be two really good things
- 7:51Speaker 5: for them, you know, going forward. I think he has
- 7:55Speaker 5: the skill set to possibly be dynamic in the role
- 7:58Speaker 5: that they want him to play in. We've seen, you know,
- 8:01Speaker 5: Staley's done some really interesting stuff with guys playing that
- 8:05Speaker 5: nickel position. Jalen Ramsey moved inside for him, and with
- 8:09Speaker 5: the Rams he played really well there. Derwin James has
- 8:12Speaker 5: had success there before Alante went to the outside. There's
- 8:16Speaker 5: this stat it's like, I think it's called like the
- 8:18Speaker 5: chaos metric or whatever something the thirty third team puts together,
- 8:22Speaker 5: but it's like tackles for a loss, pass, breakup, sacked,
- 8:26Speaker 5: you know, just just a lot of you know, things that.
- 8:28Speaker 6: Create havoc and a metric. And he was leading the
- 8:31Speaker 6: league in that stat and you know, he was getting a.
- 8:33Speaker 5: Lot of stacks early on last year. I think if
- 8:35Speaker 5: he can play well there and they can keep him
- 8:37Speaker 5: in that role, like potentially he's a guy that I
- 8:40Speaker 5: think as legitimate outside kool Aid's another easy pick for
- 8:43Speaker 5: that one. But like the guy that I'm betting on,
- 8:46Speaker 5: young guy, I mean, I don't know, I think someone
- 8:48Speaker 5: needs to kind of emerge there at this point. There's
- 8:50Speaker 5: a lot of guys that it's like, if he's good,
- 8:53Speaker 5: it's a huge thing, Like Brian Berze. If he plays
- 8:55Speaker 5: better against the run the pair with the stack ability,
- 8:59Speaker 5: you kind of got a good player or there maybe
- 9:01Speaker 5: you know, right now he's kind of a liability on
- 9:04Speaker 5: first and second, so if that would change, that would
- 9:06Speaker 5: be huge for him. So, I mean, there's a lot
- 9:08Speaker 5: of guys that I think, like have potential, haven't met
- 9:12Speaker 5: it and could step up. But it's a little it's
- 9:15Speaker 5: bleak on that side until like some of those things
- 9:17Speaker 5: come into focus.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Uh, Nick, as we all know, like when you select
- 9:20Speaker 2: somebody in the first three rounds, you expect a lot
- 9:23Speaker 2: from them. I'm not saying they have to be superstars,
- 9:25Speaker 2: but they got to give you something. Certainly, as a
- 9:27Speaker 2: second round pick, you got to be able to contribute.
- 9:29Speaker 2: You got to be able to be a guy that
- 9:31Speaker 2: you know can be a starter, that can be a
- 9:33Speaker 2: quality player on whichever side of the football. And so
- 9:36Speaker 2: you probably know, I'm going to Isaiah Foski. Is it
- 9:39Speaker 2: already just a punt on him?
- 9:40Speaker 3: Like?
- 9:41Speaker 2: Is that just Hey, he's gonna play some special teams,
- 9:43Speaker 2: he's gonna run out his rookie contract, and then that's
- 9:46Speaker 2: just going to be it. And the only reason you
- 9:47Speaker 2: don't cut him is because he's a second round pick?
- 9:50Speaker 2: Or is there anything that we can expect from him
- 9:52Speaker 2: on the defensive side, it.
- 9:54Speaker 5: Looks like they're trying, you know, they're trying to see
- 9:56Speaker 5: if they can get him into, you know, some type
- 9:58Speaker 5: of useful role. He's getting a lot of run Oka's
- 10:01Speaker 5: in mini camp. I found myself baffled by this one,
- 10:05Speaker 5: like fortieth pick from Notre Dame, like real production, Like
- 10:08Speaker 5: it's just it's mystifying to me that that there's I
- 10:11Speaker 5: can see like not living up to potential, but where
- 10:16Speaker 5: is that just kind of makes no sense, Like this
- 10:18Speaker 5: isn't it. This isn't you know San Antonio or wherever
- 10:21Speaker 5: the hell you know they've gotten some of these other
- 10:23Speaker 5: guys from, Like this is a real a real player
- 10:26Speaker 5: from Notre Dame, like playing against real teams with you know,
- 10:30Speaker 5: real stacks against real opponents. And he was the record
- 10:33Speaker 5: the sack records that are at Notre Dame like that
- 10:36Speaker 5: that's supposed to mean something. I thought that was maybe
- 10:39Speaker 5: the safest pick they had made in years, and then
- 10:42Speaker 5: it just doesn't you know, you kind of saw a
- 10:44Speaker 5: little bit of like unrefinedness to his game when you
- 10:47Speaker 5: watched him, Like okay, but if he adds like this
- 10:50Speaker 5: or that, like maybe maybe there's something really good here.
- 10:52Speaker 5: But the floor on this blows my mind. Yeah, I
- 10:56Speaker 5: think he's at that that do or die point, like
- 10:57Speaker 5: you kind of got to see something or you let
- 11:00Speaker 5: him go. I think one of the things that might
- 11:02Speaker 5: stablem though, is if he doesn't live up the expectation
- 11:04Speaker 5: is like who's taking his job like that? That's kind
- 11:06Speaker 5: of the the issue on the defense, Like if it's
- 11:10Speaker 5: not am, like who else like they don't have anybody.
- 11:13Speaker 6: At that position.
- 11:14Speaker 5: They don't have you know, I don't really feel like
- 11:16Speaker 5: that they got the top end talent, they don't have
- 11:18Speaker 5: the depth. Like it's a tough it's a tough existence.
- 11:22Speaker 6: Right now for them. So yeah, maybe, I mean, you know,
- 11:26Speaker 6: maybe maybe he's on the team, maybe he's not.
- 11:30Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 11:31Speaker 5: But I'm not expecting anything from him though.
- 11:33Speaker 6: I think I think, you know.
- 11:35Speaker 5: The the idea of him putting it together is maybe
- 11:38Speaker 5: sailed a little bit for me, like I got to
- 11:40Speaker 5: see it. I'm not banking on anything from him at all.
- 11:44Speaker 3: It's a good point he brings up. If you you're
- 11:46Speaker 3: down on a person and you're like, well, we need
- 11:49Speaker 3: to get him replaced, But like who you're replacing him
- 11:51Speaker 3: with is a question. You might as well stick with
- 11:53Speaker 3: a guy that you, at one point at least you
- 11:55Speaker 3: believe could do something. But Nick, you probably gave one
- 11:57Speaker 3: of the greatest answers ever heard when Jake generically asked
- 12:00Speaker 3: you about the defense and you said it's not great.
- 12:05Speaker 3: So Jacob and I don't know if he's told you
- 12:07Speaker 3: or not, but like we've kind of gotten into sports
- 12:09Speaker 3: cards recently, and we always kind of laugh because we're
- 12:11Speaker 3: always chasing these big hits, but we get so many
- 12:13Speaker 3: kool Aid the chemistry.
- 12:15Speaker 2: I mean, so we have If kool Aid ends up
- 12:18Speaker 2: being like Ed Reid, we're both retiring.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Lat kool Aid make a couple of Pro Bowls. Just
- 12:24Speaker 3: let him.
- 12:24Speaker 4: I promise.
- 12:25Speaker 3: We got the cards to back it up. But you
- 12:28Speaker 3: talk about from top to bottom on the defense, how
- 12:31Speaker 3: it's right now, you know it's figuring a lot of
- 12:34Speaker 3: stuff out. It's not great, but you can expect it.
- 12:39Speaker 3: When that happens. That happens in the NFL, it happens.
- 12:41Speaker 3: It happens at all. When that happens, and you can't
- 12:44Speaker 3: just out one on one teams, you can look for
- 12:48Speaker 3: you can look for a lot of exotic feast or
- 12:50Speaker 3: famine type game plans, type defenses and get really creative
- 12:54Speaker 3: with a lot of your game plan and try trying
- 12:57Speaker 3: to create confusion on the offensive side of the ball.
- 13:00Speaker 3: And I know, when OTAs in mini camp, it's really
- 13:02Speaker 3: kind of like they're not going to install a lot
- 13:04Speaker 3: of that stuff, but they probably would have already started
- 13:08Speaker 3: putting the foundation and pieces of that in place. Have
- 13:10Speaker 3: you seen anything on the defensive side of the ball
- 13:13Speaker 3: that would lead you to believe that we could get
- 13:15Speaker 3: to like a non traditional type of third down defense
- 13:20Speaker 3: or any non traditional types of defenses.
- 13:24Speaker 5: I mean, there wasn't a lot like it was kind
- 13:25Speaker 5: of the base early on, and then by the end
- 13:27Speaker 5: of Mini camp, like we were starting to see you know,
- 13:29Speaker 5: a little bit of a little bit of dime, a
- 13:30Speaker 5: little bit of you know, nickel stuff. And I think
- 13:33Speaker 5: within that, like you saw a little you know show
- 13:35Speaker 5: show to rotate in the in the you know, cover three, Like,
- 13:39Speaker 5: it wasn't a ton of stuff that that you're kind
- 13:41Speaker 5: of dissecting and being like, oh man, that was crazy.
- 13:43Speaker 6: You know.
- 13:44Speaker 5: I think they were kind of you know, hitting the
- 13:46Speaker 5: tip of the iceberg on some of that stuff.
- 13:47Speaker 6: But like, really, when you do go back and look.
- 13:49Speaker 5: At Staley though throughout you know, time and throughout the years,
- 13:53Speaker 5: I think that is kind of the hallmark of what
- 13:55Speaker 5: he does on defense. And you know, Da did a
- 13:58Speaker 5: lot of it too. He was kind of you know,
- 14:00Speaker 5: at the forefront of bringing some of those simulated pressures
- 14:02Speaker 5: and stuff into the league. But I think everyone caught
- 14:04Speaker 5: up and then started to buy a little bit at
- 14:07Speaker 5: the end. Yeah, So I think I think Stately, you know, yeah,
- 14:11Speaker 5: I think we're definitely gonna see some of that stuff though,
- 14:13Speaker 5: And I think that really is kind of what they're
- 14:15Speaker 5: all about. And you know, they really really do a
- 14:17Speaker 5: good job of holding those shelves, like right until the
- 14:22Speaker 5: very end and then sometimes even beyond the staff and
- 14:25Speaker 5: when they're even you know, first down, they do some
- 14:28Speaker 5: of that. And they don't like to put that extra
- 14:29Speaker 5: guy in the box.
- 14:30Speaker 6: They like to.
- 14:30Speaker 5: Bring that guy like from anywhere like it, and you know,
- 14:34Speaker 5: sometimes it leaves them a little bit vulnerable to allowing
- 14:38Speaker 5: a big explosive run, but sometimes like they're killing people
- 14:40Speaker 5: with it too, and I think that was one of
- 14:42Speaker 5: the things that maybe got them in trouble a little
- 14:44Speaker 5: bit at the end and with the chargers.
- 14:47Speaker 6: But you know, you clean that up a little bit,
- 14:49Speaker 6: you get a little.
- 14:49Speaker 5: Bit more calculated. You know, I think that there is
- 14:53Speaker 5: benefit to it. And when you're watching, it's just like
- 14:55Speaker 5: one of those things, it's like, man, why why don't
- 14:56Speaker 5: more people do this?
- 14:58Speaker 6: You know, then.
- 15:00Speaker 5: It's a little bit of feast or famine.
- 15:02Speaker 6: But like when you have a team like this that's
- 15:04Speaker 6: maybe a little.
- 15:04Speaker 5: Bit deficient on talent, like maybe leading into you know,
- 15:07Speaker 5: some of that risk is a calculated thing that you
- 15:10Speaker 5: might have to do, you know, as you were saying,
- 15:12Speaker 5: so it would make a lot of sense. But I
- 15:14Speaker 5: do think that is kind of the the identity of
- 15:16Speaker 5: him in general is kind of, you know, that master
- 15:19Speaker 5: of dis guise, trying to dress things up, making it
- 15:21Speaker 5: look a little bit different. And you know, I think
- 15:24Speaker 5: that's one thing I like about the staff too, though,
- 15:26Speaker 5: is that it's a lot of younger guys that kind
- 15:29Speaker 5: of live on the Internet and they're you know, not
- 15:31Speaker 5: afraid to tell you that, Hey, I was watching a
- 15:33Speaker 5: high school football clip and we liked what we did here,
- 15:36Speaker 5: and we're bringing this in like that's stuff that they're doing.
- 15:39Speaker 5: They're searching for new ideas. So I would be surprised
- 15:41Speaker 5: if if things look static and if there aren't times
- 15:44Speaker 5: where you're watching you're like, damn, where the hell did
- 15:46Speaker 5: that come from? I think that's going to be part
- 15:48Speaker 5: of their identity.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Look, I can fully get behind that because I can
- 15:51Speaker 2: tell you, as an eight U flag football offensive coordinator,
- 15:55Speaker 2: Nick I scour the internet looking for new plays and
- 15:59Speaker 2: new ways to get the ball to playmakers, and I
- 16:01Speaker 2: am a okay with it.
- 16:03Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 16:03Speaker 5: I mean, there's just so many like good accounts to
- 16:05Speaker 5: like Casey Caseyible Yeah, man, Like they're just like they're
- 16:11Speaker 5: out there and there's just something that I get the
- 16:13Speaker 5: email every day from from uh Dan Casey, uh the
- 16:17Speaker 5: match quarters guy. Like there's just a Cody Alexander that
- 16:19Speaker 5: there's a ton of them out there that that just
- 16:21Speaker 5: kind of a posting stuff all day long. And I,
- 16:23Speaker 5: you know, I think that's that's where this staff kind
- 16:24Speaker 5: of lives and exists, and uh, you know, it's kind
- 16:27Speaker 5: of it's kind of interesting. Like kellm moore actually brought
- 16:30Speaker 5: Dan Casey out I think one time to the Chargers
- 16:34Speaker 5: like for training camp.
- 16:35Speaker 6: I think he was out there in the there like meeting.
- 16:37Speaker 5: Rooms just because he liked the stuff that they he
- 16:39Speaker 5: does online. So it's a curious bunch of people that
- 16:42Speaker 5: that I think are going to constantly be looking for
- 16:45Speaker 5: new ideas.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Oh oh, I forgot Flinn. Let you know, uh Flynn
- 16:51Speaker 2: hates quarters like he can't.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Stand because as a quarterback, I loved it, right.
- 16:56Speaker 2: I hate when my cheer for so a couple of
- 16:59Speaker 2: years go when Matt House at LSU was like.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Remember when j quorters every time we got the ball, Yeah,
- 17:06Speaker 3: we played quarters every time they got the ball.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I will say there's a lot of quarter beaters
- 17:11Speaker 2: out there that are pretty uh, pretty easy to find.
- 17:14Speaker 4: But you'll learn how. You'll learn that about Flynn.
- 17:16Speaker 2: If if we talk quarters defense, he is going to
- 17:19Speaker 2: just leave the conversation.
- 17:21Speaker 5: Well, I mean everyone did kind of overdose on it.
- 17:23Speaker 3: For a while. He did.
- 17:24Speaker 4: It was like it was like a safe play. Nick.
- 17:25Speaker 2: It's like when everybody like didn't know what to do
- 17:28Speaker 2: or they were trying to like, Okay, let's get punched
- 17:30Speaker 2: a little bit and we'll just kind of get our
- 17:31Speaker 2: feel of the game.
- 17:32Speaker 4: It's like quarters, that's what we're gonna play.
- 17:34Speaker 3: We always have like game plans with quarter checks. Like
- 17:36Speaker 3: if the quarterbacks saw quarters, like he was free to
- 17:39Speaker 3: change the play to the quarterbater. It usually worked.
- 17:44Speaker 4: Ye there.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Yeah, So all right he is Nick Underhill, New Orleans
- 17:48Speaker 2: Dot Football. Nobody does it better go check out the side.
- 17:51Speaker 2: We were lucky to have him everyday here on O TV.
- 17:55Speaker 4: Nick. We appreciate it. Sarah. We'll catch up again with
- 17:57Speaker 4: you next week.
- 17:58Speaker 5: Yeah, take it easy, guys.
- 18:01Speaker 4: When we come back.
- 18:02Speaker 2: I know that half of this is radio half as visual,
- 18:06Speaker 2: but we'll try to give you a breakdown of why
- 18:10Speaker 2: quarters defense is so easy to kind of manipulate and
- 18:15Speaker 2: you kind of dictate what happens if you're the offense.
- 18:18Speaker 2: And again, I'm gonna throw this to Flynn to be
- 18:20Speaker 2: able to tell you the story on radio and visual.
- 18:23Speaker 4: That's on him. I'm just the hust throwing it to him.
- 18:26Speaker 4: We'll be back breaking down quarters defense here on OTV.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Off the bench, all right, go to get Gordon dot com,
- 18:34Speaker 2: Get Gordon dot com, Gordon mccurne, injury Attorneys, and man,
- 18:37Speaker 2: they were all over Omaha. The G Team was out.
- 18:39Speaker 2: You saw the LSU jeep out there all week. Will
- 18:42Speaker 2: Helmer's doing some great social media content for the G Team,
- 18:46Speaker 2: and the G Team's gonna be there for you every
- 18:49Speaker 2: single time throughout the state of Louisiana, from Shreveport to Monroe,
- 18:53Speaker 2: Monroe to Alexandria, Alexandria to Lake Chuck Lake Chuck to Lafayette,
- 18:57Speaker 2: Lafayette to Baton Rouge, Baton Rouge, New Orleans and everywhere
- 18:59Speaker 2: in between, the.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Middle of nowhere exactly.
- 19:01Speaker 2: The rider yep, oh yep, good bye you the DeRidder Dragons,
- 19:08Speaker 2: I believe, shout out to them.
- 19:10Speaker 4: Uh, the G Team is very easy to get in
- 19:12Speaker 4: contact with throughout state of Louisiana. It is your area.
- 19:15Speaker 4: It would fall about eighty eight eighty eight eighty eight.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Yeah, be a part of the g team. You see
- 19:19Speaker 3: the billboards, you hear us talking about you, hear people,
- 19:21Speaker 3: you've heard the name. But if you had an injury,
- 19:24Speaker 3: it's not your fault. Call them to see how they
- 19:25Speaker 3: can help you. Whether it's car accident, Treuk hasn't wrongfeled,
- 19:28Speaker 3: whatever it is. If you've been injured, call them see
- 19:31Speaker 3: how they can help. That's get Gordon dot com eight
- 19:33Speaker 3: eight eight eight eight eight eight.
- 19:49Speaker 1: From the locker room to the airwaves. It's off the
- 19:51Speaker 1: bench with Jacob Hester and that Flynn.
- 19:55Speaker 3: We still we still do you think them?
- 20:05Speaker 4: So I spilled something on the shirt?
- 20:09Speaker 3: Yes?
- 20:09Speaker 4: An either too clean? You gotta wipe me dine.
- 20:16Speaker 2: All right, We're about to talk a little defense here,
- 20:19Speaker 2: but before we do, I want to remind you about
- 20:21Speaker 2: Elite Training Academy. Elite Training academybr dot com is the
- 20:25Speaker 2: website and sign ups for flag football are now live.
- 20:31Speaker 4: And sign up your team.
- 20:33Speaker 2: I mean, we're talking all the way from seven and you,
- 20:35Speaker 2: boys and girls all the way to fifteen eighteen. If like,
- 20:39Speaker 2: we have an eighteen you girls division, but boys and
- 20:42Speaker 2: girls go all the way up to fifteen.
- 20:43Speaker 4: You gonna be played on.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Actual turf football fields, and so obviously you know whether
- 20:48Speaker 2: it's gonna be a different situation. We're gonna be able
- 20:50Speaker 2: to do more. There field's dream. We got an indoor
- 20:53Speaker 2: as well. Go check it out. I'm bringing my teams
- 20:56Speaker 2: to Elite. I'm making Flynn bring his team to Elite.
- 20:59Speaker 2: You don't have a choice, Flynn. Every top team is
- 21:02Speaker 2: gonna be playing there at e elit. Come join us
- 21:04Speaker 2: as well. Elite Training academybr dot com. And look, you
- 21:08Speaker 2: get to be NFL teams if you're in Look, if
- 21:10Speaker 2: you're in the nine U division, you're not getting the Chargers,
- 21:14Speaker 2: but every other team is available for you there.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Which kid doesn't want to put on an NFL.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Jersey exactly got a chance to be the Bengals yep
- 21:23Speaker 2: this year. That probably was pretty fun for him. A
- 21:25Speaker 2: couple LSU Tigers wear.
- 21:26Speaker 3: That uniform, can throw him my hat in the ring
- 21:28Speaker 3: for the Packers.
- 21:29Speaker 2: I don't think anybody's gonna fight you unless Jordy Nelson
- 21:32Speaker 2: moves down here to farm.
- 21:33Speaker 3: You want to find me push ups.
- 21:35Speaker 4: All right, so at least training academy br dot com.
- 21:38Speaker 3: Speaking of flag football, did y'all see the big news
- 21:42Speaker 3: football is now going to be an Olympic sport, right
- 21:44Speaker 3: we all? So there's a lot of it's not controversy.
- 21:48Speaker 3: There's just a lot of conversation about who should be
- 21:52Speaker 3: the team because there's I think it's a team from Louisiana, or.
- 21:55Speaker 4: At least a quarter Louisiana.
- 21:58Speaker 3: Darryl du sat So he's been playing for FLA Football
- 22:00Speaker 3: for a long time, knows everything about has won all
- 22:02Speaker 3: the championships, blah blah blah, great player in flag football.
- 22:06Speaker 3: He recently kind of made headlines with an interview saying,
- 22:09Speaker 3: like he said the Super Bowl and he was like,
- 22:12Speaker 3: and it was he said it the right way. It's like, look,
- 22:16Speaker 3: in flag football, I'm better than Patrick Mahomes for these
- 22:19Speaker 3: reasons because I know the rules better, Like you know,
- 22:21Speaker 3: Patrick's one of the greatest in the all time blah
- 22:24Speaker 3: blah blah. Like in flag football, which I don't disagree with,
- 22:28Speaker 3: it's a completely different game. I think a couple of
- 22:30Speaker 3: years ago they did the NFL Flag Challenge where NFL
- 22:34Speaker 3: players they did I think it was for charity, but
- 22:36Speaker 3: they did a big tournament. I think Michael Fick play
- 22:38Speaker 3: like a lot of the current players are playing too.
- 22:40Speaker 3: And those guys, the flag football guys did win it all,
- 22:43Speaker 3: like they beat all those guys. It just kind of
- 22:46Speaker 3: brings up the like the question to me, will they
- 22:50Speaker 3: let the NFL players play? And if they do, how
- 22:53Speaker 3: long do they give them to prepare or do they
- 22:56Speaker 3: have a tryout for a season coming up for NFL
- 22:59Speaker 3: players and like Darryl Ducett to see who But if
- 23:03Speaker 3: they let the NFL players plays, it's just like, yeah,
- 23:06Speaker 3: oh yeah, Patrick Rose want to play, you'r.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Have a training camp, have some skills competitions, have some
- 23:13Speaker 2: scrimmages competition.
- 23:15Speaker 3: The skills competition is not gonna.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Be I'm saying close that are that are flag relevant.
- 23:20Speaker 2: I come up with drills I should.
- 23:22Speaker 3: I think you would listen. I keep bringing Patrick Mahose
- 23:24Speaker 3: because Daryl brought him up in his interview, like if
- 23:26Speaker 3: he wants to play, does he get to play? Yeatrick,
- 23:32Speaker 3: even if it doesn't give you the best opportunity.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Like receivers and stuff like the receiver give me gents,
- 23:38Speaker 2: you can have whoever you want from the flag football team,
- 23:40Speaker 2: I'll take him.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Uh, we'll see.
- 23:42Speaker 3: It's gonna be interesting.
- 23:43Speaker 4: Fullbacks aren't talking flag football? Get out here? Who cares
- 23:46Speaker 4: about that?
- 23:47Speaker 3: You just talked about it with the leap.
- 23:48Speaker 4: Yeah, youth not grown.
- 23:49Speaker 2: That's what you call a radio pro transition right there,
- 23:53Speaker 2: a little bit of one. I'm pretty proud of you.
- 23:54Speaker 2: But we're talking professional football now because we just talked
- 23:58Speaker 2: about the Saints and quarters defense. Okay, yep, so we're
- 24:03Speaker 2: gonna break this down. So Matt hates quarters defense. A
- 24:05Speaker 2: lot of people run that now and you hear people
- 24:08Speaker 2: talk about it, and it is a safe defense. It
- 24:12Speaker 2: is something that if the defensive coordinator again, like if
- 24:15Speaker 2: he's trying to kind of figure things out and see
- 24:18Speaker 2: how everything kind of plays out early in the game,
- 24:20Speaker 2: certainly this is going to be what they throw out
- 24:23Speaker 2: there because it is a keep everything kind of in
- 24:25Speaker 2: front of you type defense. It's a safe defense, but
- 24:29Speaker 2: there are certainly ways to not keep everything in front
- 24:32Speaker 2: of you if you're an offense.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, it's it's always been popular. It's one
- 24:36Speaker 3: of the oldest, like besides like Manda Man like one
- 24:38Speaker 3: of the.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Oldest, right, But when we were playing in the NFL Like,
- 24:42Speaker 2: not a lot of people are running this.
- 24:44Speaker 3: It kind of depends on who the coordinator, what's your
- 24:46Speaker 3: team was skill set a lot in the West. Let
- 24:49Speaker 3: me take you so, quarters is something you're going to
- 24:50Speaker 3: see a lot in high school, right, You're going to
- 24:52Speaker 3: see it a lot in middle school high school because
- 24:55Speaker 3: it is designed to stop both the run and the pass.
- 25:00Speaker 3: So in theory, it's designed to stop it's too high safety,
- 25:04Speaker 3: so we all think of like, too high safety, it's
- 25:06Speaker 3: better to run, so you get too safty gives you
- 25:09Speaker 3: four dbs across the top. So you're splitting the defense
- 25:13Speaker 3: into quarters here, So the corner the corners have the
- 25:15Speaker 3: outside quarters, the safeties have the inside quarters. You're cutting
- 25:18Speaker 3: the field into basically a high right yep. But it
- 25:22Speaker 3: also puts your safeties at about ten to twelve yards
- 25:25Speaker 3: from a line of scrimmage, so they also can help
- 25:27Speaker 3: run support. So they read through the quarterback and watch
- 25:32Speaker 3: for the run first and then react to real to
- 25:35Speaker 3: the pass. So the reason why it is such a
- 25:39Speaker 3: great defenses for offenses a scheme is really the what
- 25:42Speaker 3: the two safeties are taught to do. So we got
- 25:46Speaker 3: a two by two two bout two offensive formation here.
- 25:50Speaker 3: So what they do if they know it's a pass,
- 25:52Speaker 3: they're always they have their eyes to the backfield. So
- 25:55Speaker 3: if it's if it's a handoff, they they get to
- 25:57Speaker 3: react up because quarters is you know, like said, it's
- 26:00Speaker 3: meant to be able to assist with the running game,
- 26:03Speaker 3: which is different than like a cover two halves kind
- 26:06Speaker 3: of look. So if it is a pass, what this
- 26:08Speaker 3: safety does right here, he's watching number two. The number
- 26:11Speaker 3: two receivers are slot, so we count from the outside,
- 26:13Speaker 3: so number one is the outside receiver, too, is the
- 26:15Speaker 3: inside receiver if number two goes inside. So if he
- 26:20Speaker 3: decides to run a drag across the field or a
- 26:24Speaker 3: post route, or if he goes inside at all, number
- 26:27Speaker 3: two takes them. Okay, If he goes up the field,
- 26:32Speaker 3: he takes them, yeah, all right. If he goes across
- 26:35Speaker 3: the field short, okay, the safety then turns a double
- 26:40Speaker 3: number one. So if he passes his guy off number two,
- 26:44Speaker 3: if he passes them off, he turns a double number one.
- 26:47Speaker 3: The problem is is if number two goes vertical, the
- 26:51Speaker 3: safety has to take them because this, uh, this linebacker
- 26:55Speaker 3: right here, you got it. We got an s linebacker here.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Whatever this is. But it's the sam line back, so
- 27:01Speaker 3: he's not going to carry him down the field. He's
- 27:03Speaker 3: gonna If number two goes vertical, the safety is gonna
- 27:05Speaker 3: take him down the field. So this is why it
- 27:08Speaker 3: is so so susceptible to a deep ball. All you
- 27:12Speaker 3: gotta do is run number two across the field to
- 27:15Speaker 3: the inside deep into the middle of the field, and
- 27:17Speaker 3: he has to take him, which sets your which sets
- 27:20Speaker 3: the cornerback one on one with the re So every
- 27:22Speaker 3: time when I talk about like checks that you want
- 27:25Speaker 3: in quarters, like a quarter's check, it has to do
- 27:29Speaker 3: with some sort of post drop. A lot of people
- 27:32Speaker 3: also run like a post with a corner. Here, it's
- 27:35Speaker 3: really hard to pass that off. Safety's corners have to
- 27:37Speaker 3: be really good at passing a post or a corner off,
- 27:41Speaker 3: or they have to play it like man. Usually they
- 27:43Speaker 3: get screwed up.
- 27:43Speaker 2: What's another two man route combination that you like against quarters?
- 27:48Speaker 3: Now, anything that depends on the weakness personnel wise, I
- 27:53Speaker 3: mean as simple go with an out route from number
- 27:57Speaker 3: two is easy, especially if you get a linebacker matched
- 27:59Speaker 3: up on a wide receiver.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Uh Now, number two has to get across the corner's
- 28:03Speaker 2: face still, because even though he's dropping like you don't
- 28:06Speaker 2: want him to be able to break it.
- 28:07Speaker 3: Yeah, that's this corner will so especially if if this
- 28:10Speaker 3: number two is pushing up. Yeah, this safety is never
- 28:13Speaker 3: going to double number one. So the cornerback has.
- 28:15Speaker 4: To Yeah, he's on buy, so he's gonna out.
- 28:18Speaker 3: He will Number one is gonna outside release, attack his
- 28:20Speaker 3: outside shoulder. He's gonna clear number one out. The corner
- 28:23Speaker 3: will never unless he just screws up. He will never
- 28:27Speaker 3: drop off and undercut this out roud. That's what cover
- 28:29Speaker 3: twos for. So in a two by two set, you'll
- 28:33Speaker 3: see quarters. If he goes a three by one set,
- 28:35Speaker 3: let's take let's see it. Say the Z guy comes
- 28:37Speaker 3: over here to this side of the field. Most teams
- 28:40Speaker 3: should not say they do. They should check out at quarters.
- 28:45Speaker 3: They will usually check out a quarters and go to
- 28:47Speaker 3: some sort of three week or they'll call cover two.
- 28:51Speaker 3: A lot of people would call that like a banjo
- 28:52Speaker 3: chag that there's different names for it. You're laughing because
- 28:55Speaker 3: you heard it. You safety, You're like, hey, come on, man,
- 28:59Speaker 3: So it's like, so you can you can screw teams up.
- 29:01Speaker 3: That's why the use of motion is such a big deal,
- 29:04Speaker 3: because if you know that it's like a banjo team.
- 29:05Speaker 3: It's like, all right, we're gonna start in two by two,
- 29:07Speaker 3: we're gonna run to a three by one, and then
- 29:09Speaker 3: we're gonna run back to two by two and they're
- 29:11Speaker 3: having to change boom, boom, boom, a lot of stuff.
- 29:13Speaker 3: A lot of the wheels are turning on the defense.
- 29:16Speaker 3: But yeah, this is one of the reasons why I
- 29:20Speaker 3: think with the first touchdown pass I threw in the
- 29:22Speaker 3: peach ball to Buster Davis was against quarters. We ran
- 29:26Speaker 3: a hitcher oute right here and he Buster Davis ran
- 29:29Speaker 3: like a fake in and go. Yeah. I mean it
- 29:32Speaker 3: is susceptible to so many deep plays. And oh yeah,
- 29:34Speaker 3: I forgot to mention, you're one on one on the
- 29:36Speaker 3: cornerback outside for quick hitches hinge routes, because they're they're
- 29:42Speaker 3: taught to get back. They're taught to get back. Yeah,
- 29:44Speaker 3: so it is one on one outside. So yeah, there
- 29:48Speaker 3: you go. Here's a breakdown.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Well done there, Matthew. And throughout the football season we
- 29:53Speaker 2: are going.
- 29:54Speaker 4: To have film. We're going to break down plays offensive lead.
- 29:58Speaker 3: We're gonna really nerd out, Yes.
- 30:00Speaker 4: Yes we are.
- 30:01Speaker 2: And then once we had the film, obviously it's gonna
- 30:03Speaker 2: be you know, your favorite Tigers and we'll talk about it.
- 30:05Speaker 2: We've done this before with Flynn, gonna do more of that.
- 30:08Speaker 2: And as Taylor puts up there, it's kind of a
- 30:11Speaker 2: diagram and different zones that everybody has in that certain deal.
- 30:14Speaker 3: We're gonna see how this like really translates to just
- 30:17Speaker 3: just the radio if we can teach it well enough
- 30:20Speaker 3: to paint the picture.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Yeah, we want you to be at the water cooler
- 30:22Speaker 2: on Monday morning saying did you see the quarter quarter?
- 30:25Speaker 4: Hass you see that? Said they were playing I don't
- 30:27Speaker 4: really love that.
- 30:27Speaker 3: What was a curl flat defender doing on that coverage?
- 30:30Speaker 4: Exactly?
- 30:30Speaker 2: You were going to sound like the smartest guy in
- 30:32Speaker 2: the room and you're gonna know exactly what you're talking
- 30:35Speaker 2: about there.
- 30:35Speaker 4: So nice job there, Matthew.
- 30:38Speaker 3: There's a lot of bad routes against quarters too, and.
- 30:40Speaker 4: We're gonna talk about the good stuff.
- 30:41Speaker 3: I want to talk about the good stuff. Yeah, if
- 30:43Speaker 3: you don't want to learn football this season.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Garrett Nesmeyer would love to see quarters defense in the
- 30:49Speaker 4: first game.
- 30:49Speaker 3: Put it that way. I'm telling you, your eyes light
- 30:52Speaker 3: up as a quarterback, especially in an offensive coordinator, your
- 30:55Speaker 3: eyes light.
- 30:56Speaker 4: Up I'm gonna look up what Clemson stop coverage was.
- 30:59Speaker 3: Hopefully it's quarters.
- 31:00Speaker 4: I hope it is too. More OTV when we come
- 31:02Speaker 4: back here one O four five ESPN.
- 31:03Speaker 1: Penish off the bench.
- 31:07Speaker 4: All right, Look, we talked about it yesterday, Tiger fans.
- 31:09Speaker 2: When it's game day in Baton Rouge, be it baseball,
- 31:12Speaker 2: be it football, basketball, there is only one beer that
- 31:15Speaker 2: brings the flavor, the ultimate vibes, and the victory energy,
- 31:20Speaker 2: and that is, of course, do Sekis. Whether you're tailgating
- 31:23Speaker 2: under the oaks, celebrating a win in Omaha, crack open
- 31:26Speaker 2: that crisp, refreshing do Sekis and taste the gold standard.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Else she doesn't do average Anita does do Seki, Stay thirsty, enjoy,
- 31:35Speaker 2: do Sekis Gopher dosed, drink responsibly.
- 31:37Speaker 3: So many great beers out there, we talk about them
- 31:40Speaker 3: every day. If you're playing a team that runs quarters coverage,
- 31:44Speaker 3: let's call it quarters beer. That's a great beer too,
- 31:47Speaker 3: something to celebrate a delicious Mexican lagger. Go get one today,
- 31:52Speaker 3: ice cold, get a frosty mud cut a lime. That's
- 31:57Speaker 3: the sound of that. Do scis Gopher does delete Some beer.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Is the way blocked in on L s U Football
- 32:09Speaker 1: twenty four to seven. You're listening to off the bench.
- 32:14Speaker 3: That's the way I felt.
- 32:19Speaker 6: Boys still pushing big wheels.
- 32:21Speaker 3: Let's take my money.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Are welcome back OTV Flann good question from Bilbo Baggins
- 32:29Speaker 2: inside the Bay four chat.
- 32:31Speaker 4: His quarters coverage always a four man front.
- 32:34Speaker 3: Oh good question. No, no, no, no, you can run most
- 32:37Speaker 3: any coverage with any type of front. We kind of
- 32:40Speaker 3: put this uh picture on here because it's like the
- 32:42Speaker 3: most generic, you know, four linebackers, a base defense, three linebackers,
- 32:47Speaker 3: four down linemen, four DB's. That's like the basic look.
- 32:51Speaker 3: Now from this, you can get people in these positions
- 32:56Speaker 3: in multiple different ways. There's endless amounts of ways. Some
- 32:59Speaker 3: are more dangers than others. You can you can walk
- 33:01Speaker 3: around the defensive lineman. You could play it out a nickel.
- 33:04Speaker 3: You can play it a dime. You can play it
- 33:05Speaker 3: out of quarters. So to break that down nickels as
- 33:09Speaker 3: five dyb's dime is sixty b's. Yeah, and we call
- 33:13Speaker 3: it nickel personnel, it would be sevent DB's. So you
- 33:18Speaker 3: can play it in all sorts of different ways. You
- 33:20Speaker 3: can fire zone blitz it, which means you're bringing pressure,
- 33:24Speaker 3: so you bring you bring a blitz. Usually a fire
- 33:27Speaker 3: zone blitz is a five person blitz. If you bring
- 33:29Speaker 3: two linebackers, I mean you're dropping a defensive end and
- 33:32Speaker 3: usually you're dropping a defensive end to take the responsibility
- 33:35Speaker 3: of what a linebacker would usually be doing.
- 33:37Speaker 2: Ye when you see what those defensiveands get an interception, like,
- 33:40Speaker 2: how did the quarterback not seem that's the situation you're talking.
- 33:43Speaker 3: Yeah, usually it's impossible to see. You can based on
- 33:47Speaker 3: film preparation, you can kind of get the thought process
- 33:51Speaker 3: in your head that there might be a defensive line
- 33:53Speaker 3: dropping into the zone because of the pre stnet look
- 33:56Speaker 3: and which backers came. And you can't do fire zone
- 34:02Speaker 3: pressures on every cover, so if you like see man demand,
- 34:04Speaker 3: usually there's not a defensive lineman dropping. But yeah, it's
- 34:09Speaker 3: a good question because everything starts with like the basic
- 34:14Speaker 3: high school quarters cover two, cover three man demand schematics,
- 34:21Speaker 3: and then after that. That's why the great defensive coordinators
- 34:23Speaker 3: they come up with all these creative ways based on
- 34:25Speaker 3: what the offense is doing to get to those same spots.
- 34:29Speaker 3: Just create confusion along the way, and you're creating confusion
- 34:33Speaker 3: so you can get pressure on the quarterback because you're
- 34:35Speaker 3: not only confusing the quarterback what he's seeing, but you're
- 34:37Speaker 3: confusing the offensive lineman in pass protection and the running
- 34:41Speaker 3: back in pass protection.
- 34:42Speaker 2: Yeah, there's so many different ways you can manipulate coverages.
- 34:45Speaker 2: You can show the quarterback different looks and you can
- 34:49Speaker 2: you know, get him to change his play and then
- 34:51Speaker 2: you're you know, doing it just so he changes out
- 34:53Speaker 2: of his play even though you run the same coverage.
- 34:55Speaker 2: There's so many different games that you can play. We
- 34:58Speaker 2: always talk about double am right with the linebackers, like
- 35:01Speaker 2: that is hell on the quarterback. It's held on the
- 35:03Speaker 2: running back as well, because they're gonna play games and
- 35:06Speaker 2: we're gonna declare the mic one way and I've got
- 35:09Speaker 2: to go across the formation to pick up the other backer. Well,
- 35:11Speaker 2: that backer is going to drop at the last minute.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Here comes somebody else from the other side. I've already
- 35:16Speaker 2: committed to that linebacker because if I don't, he's going
- 35:19Speaker 2: to sack the quarterback.
- 35:20Speaker 4: So those are things that will break down.
- 35:22Speaker 3: We're gonna break down. We'll do another we'll do the
- 35:24Speaker 3: film session break down some double A gaps. But right
- 35:26Speaker 3: now I really want to give the people what they want.
- 35:30Speaker 3: I want to go back and run it back and
- 35:31Speaker 3: talk a little golf.
- 35:32Speaker 4: Oh yeah, you did have some I want to talk about.
- 35:36Speaker 3: This year. We got the Ryder Cup coming, which is
- 35:37Speaker 3: the most electric, one of the most electric, in my opinion,
- 35:40Speaker 3: sporting events out there, because it only happens every couple
- 35:43Speaker 3: of years. It is USA versus Europe. And there's a
- 35:47Speaker 3: lot of talk this week about it because of what
- 35:49Speaker 3: happened this past weekend with Keegan Bradley at the Travelers Championship.
- 35:53Speaker 3: Keek and Bradley, who is was named a year and
- 35:57Speaker 3: a half ago, believe as the captain for the USA
- 36:02Speaker 3: this year in the twenty twenty five Ryder Cup, which
- 36:04Speaker 3: it's back in the USA. It was in Rome, Italy
- 36:08Speaker 3: two years ago, so this year it's UT's see September
- 36:10Speaker 3: twenty fifth at Bethpage Black in New York, which is
- 36:13Speaker 3: a historic course, so the Ryder Cup will be there.
- 36:16Speaker 3: And for those of you who don't know, it's twelve
- 36:19Speaker 3: people from the US twelve people from Europe. And while
- 36:23Speaker 3: it's kind of in the news this week is Keegan Bradley,
- 36:26Speaker 3: who is the captain, controversially got left off the team
- 36:29Speaker 3: that went to Rome two years ago, Zach Thomas was
- 36:34Speaker 3: he was the captain at that point. And what happens
- 36:37Speaker 3: with picking the teams is there six automatic qualifiers based
- 36:41Speaker 3: on points, so the top six guys for USA, top
- 36:44Speaker 3: six guys for Europe in the points based on tournaments
- 36:46Speaker 3: and majors are automatically in, and then there's six captains picks.
- 36:51Speaker 3: The captain can choose whoever he wants. Yep. So Keegan
- 36:54Speaker 3: Bradley had won this Travelers Championship a couple of years
- 36:57Speaker 3: ago and was on that bubble. There's about three four
- 37:00Speaker 3: guys on that bubble. Zach ended up choosing Justin Thomas
- 37:04Speaker 3: over Keegan Bradley, who had traditionally he was called like captain,
- 37:08Speaker 3: a mayor. He was like a ryder cup dude. He
- 37:10Speaker 3: always showed out. He's been a great player from a
- 37:12Speaker 3: long time. But he had he wasn't having the season
- 37:16Speaker 3: and he's had he had a he was having a
- 37:17Speaker 3: bad season leaning up to that point, so he kind
- 37:20Speaker 3: of went and he chose him over Keegan. What's a
- 37:23Speaker 3: little bit controversial, and the only reason it is controversial
- 37:25Speaker 3: is because of the Netflix documentary Full Swing. So this
- 37:29Speaker 3: year he's in the same spot he just won this tournament.
- 37:33Speaker 3: I think he is ranked keegan now as the captain
- 37:36Speaker 3: is ranked ninth. So again it's a twelve man team.
- 37:41Speaker 3: So he's got this unique opportunity now to be a
- 37:45Speaker 3: player captain, so to be the captain of the team,
- 37:47Speaker 3: which is usually you know, not like an old old player,
- 37:50Speaker 3: but like an older player that's kind of passed his prime,
- 37:55Speaker 3: who isn't in threat of actually being a player we
- 37:58Speaker 3: haven't had like in the modern an air of golf,
- 38:00Speaker 3: there's never been on either team be a player captain.
- 38:03Speaker 3: I think the last one was nineteen sixty three, a
- 38:08Speaker 3: man by the name of Arnold Palmer. Ever heard of him?
- 38:10Speaker 3: They made a drink after him. Yeah, he was the captain,
- 38:14Speaker 3: the player captain in nineteen sixty three. Since it hadn't
- 38:16Speaker 3: been I think there was a European one. I don't
- 38:18Speaker 3: even remember his name was, like in the fifties. So
- 38:20Speaker 3: this is a crazy situation. Automatic qualifiers currently Scotti Scheffler,
- 38:25Speaker 3: of course was badass man on the planet with a
- 38:28Speaker 3: golf globe his hand. Xander Schoffle jj Spahn just recently
- 38:32Speaker 3: won the US Russell Henley Bryson, d Chambeau and Justin
- 38:36Speaker 3: Thomas r right now in the top six, Keik and
- 38:40Speaker 3: Bradley sitting at nine. So it's gonna be fun to
- 38:42Speaker 3: watch that again into September. Ryder Cup USA Europe. They
- 38:48Speaker 3: absolutely destroyed us in Rome two years ago, so we
- 38:53Speaker 3: got to come to fin our homeland. Have you seen
- 38:56Speaker 3: Have you watched the Ryder Cup before four?
- 38:58Speaker 2: I have because I remember it when House, who's from Shreveport,
- 39:01Speaker 2: was the captain. Like, I remember it being a huge,
- 39:04Speaker 2: huge deal, like in the city and everybody talked about
- 39:06Speaker 2: it for weeks leading.
- 39:07Speaker 4: Up to it.
- 39:08Speaker 2: It was on the news and the paper every single day.
- 39:10Speaker 2: So absolutely, yeah.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Well it's one of the the golf tournaments always. You know,
- 39:14Speaker 3: golf is about you know, respect, quiet please, like, let's
- 39:18Speaker 3: golf clap, let's show some respect. Not at the Ryder Cup.
- 39:21Speaker 3: The Rider Cup is wear your American flag pants, go
- 39:25Speaker 3: out there, scream as loud as you can. I think
- 39:28Speaker 3: justin Thomas and I think it was Jordan Spieth the
- 39:30Speaker 3: last time it was in America. It might have been
- 39:34Speaker 3: whistling straits. Can't remember, uh, but you know they go
- 39:36Speaker 3: out to the first tea box holding beers, pumping up
- 39:39Speaker 3: the crowd, O God, and they're chugging beers like it's
- 39:42Speaker 3: it's a rowdy environment. Yeah, you never in golf. You also,
- 39:45Speaker 3: it's like the courtesy. You don't cheer against other people,
- 39:47Speaker 3: but people are. I mean, it is a home it
- 39:49Speaker 3: is a true home field advantage situation. You're actively booing, cheering,
- 39:55Speaker 3: uh booing other the other team booing Europe. When they
- 39:58Speaker 3: hit something good but and they miss up like a
- 40:00Speaker 3: two foot putt, the whole crowd goes crazy. And that
- 40:04Speaker 3: you don't ever see that in golf, which is which
- 40:06Speaker 3: that is one unique and I haven't been. It is
- 40:08Speaker 3: absolutely my bucket list. Are you gonna win, Oh, we're
- 40:14Speaker 3: gonna win. We're gonna dominate. I mean we got Scotti Scheffler, who,
- 40:17Speaker 3: like I said, is the most dangerous guy in the world.
- 40:20Speaker 3: I mean I think.
- 40:21Speaker 2: He he's like he's like minus odds for every golf turam.
- 40:24Speaker 2: You know how hard that is to get minus odds
- 40:26Speaker 2: in a golf tournament to win it.
- 40:27Speaker 3: It just doesn't matter what he does in a tournament,
- 40:31Speaker 3: Like he just doesn't ever make mistakes. Even when he
- 40:33Speaker 3: makes mistakes. Even this past two weeks ago at the
- 40:36Speaker 3: at the US Open, it was he made a triple
- 40:38Speaker 3: bogie on the whole one on a Saturday. He was
- 40:42Speaker 3: I think he was close to the lead triple bogie,
- 40:44Speaker 3: which usually is not gonna knock everybody out. Well, he
- 40:47Speaker 3: came back and he finished three off the lead. Like
- 40:50Speaker 3: he's just always there, always there, always there. I mean,
- 40:53Speaker 3: God knows what the odds are for taking Scotti Scheffler
- 40:56Speaker 3: like to finish in the top ten every tournament.
- 40:58Speaker 2: It's probably like minus three thousand. Yeah, if you're getting
- 41:02Speaker 2: again minus.
- 41:03Speaker 3: I don't know. I think it's minus. I think he's
- 41:04Speaker 3: I think he got.
- 41:07Speaker 4: The last tournament and he was like minus one thirty.
- 41:10Speaker 3: To win it. I think he was like plus two
- 41:12Speaker 3: twenty or something, which is the lowest odds to win
- 41:16Speaker 3: a golf tournament or a major since like Tiger Woods
- 41:18Speaker 3: and like go six or something like that.
- 41:21Speaker 2: All right, we are going to close out today's o
- 41:23Speaker 2: t B answering your questions, asked the bench inside the
- 41:27Speaker 2: bye you four chat to close it out here on

- 43:09Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure, why not? Absolutely grievances my guy data,
- 43:13Speaker 3: let's go.
- 43:16Speaker 4: Everybody's well, everybody's welcome.

- 43:20Speaker 2: do an old school Oklahoma drill just to give you know,
- 43:23Speaker 2: some interaction at the tailgate too.
- 43:25Speaker 3: For me, you gotta have something to talk about. I
- 43:27Speaker 3: was boring if everybody just like gets along.
- 43:31Speaker 4: Ask the bench, what is the next phase of the
- 43:32Speaker 4: beef with a f R. You're turned to punch back.
- 43:35Speaker 4: We're gonna check the tape.
- 43:36Speaker 2: We're gonna see if he talked about the steak dinner
- 43:38Speaker 2: that Flynn sent coach Jay Johnson, if he took credit
- 43:40Speaker 2: for it, We're gonna check it.
- 43:42Speaker 3: I said, do you keep saying my name? It was
- 43:43Speaker 3: T O T B. I mean it was like you
- 43:46Speaker 3: you almost got to push the buttons.
- 43:47Speaker 2: Yeah, and you did, Like I gathered information, but you
- 43:50Speaker 2: pushed the button effort sent asked the bench favorite golf
- 43:54Speaker 2: course to play at I don't have one played.
- 44:00Speaker 4: I played to Pines before Chargers golf team outing.
- 44:05Speaker 3: That's such a tough question because there's bucket lists golf courses.
- 44:08Speaker 3: When I was in Wisconsin, Man, we had embarrassment of
- 44:13Speaker 3: riches up there. We had Blackwolf Run, What'sland Straight? You
- 44:17Speaker 3: had so many good golf courses that was like within
- 44:19Speaker 3: an hour and a half from green Bay, which is funny,
- 44:23Speaker 3: Like we would go out of town of green Bay
- 44:25Speaker 3: and we could play like those nice courses for free.
- 44:28Speaker 3: So if we tried to play at the fifteen dollars
- 44:30Speaker 3: public course in green Bay, we had to pay. Yeah,
- 44:33Speaker 3: son of guy, but no. I took a a golf
- 44:38Speaker 3: trip to Ireland, Southwest Ireland, and it was the best
- 44:42Speaker 3: golf experience I've ever.
- 44:43Speaker 4: Had as a bench What's my high Pure.
- 44:47Speaker 3: It's actually our first flavor or first partuct we ever made.
- 44:50Speaker 3: It's actually flavorless, so it's designed to be mixed into
- 44:53Speaker 3: other things and create anything into a sports drink. So
- 44:56Speaker 3: it's like originally created with like who worked at the
- 44:58Speaker 3: LSU football team. They could add it to their power
- 45:01Speaker 3: aid and it wouldn't change the flavor. It just poos
- 45:03Speaker 3: the electroly content. All right, so you can change, like
- 45:06Speaker 3: get a lemonade. Well, Chris the light though appearing there
- 45:08Speaker 3: it was sport straight.
- 45:09Speaker 4: I like that acid bench. Who is l Shoe's receiver one,
- 45:13Speaker 4: two and three?
- 45:14Speaker 2: I'll go Aaron Anderson, Nick Anderson and Chris Hilton, and
- 45:18Speaker 2: then Brown's gonna be your four. You've got some dudes
- 45:21Speaker 2: and they can play out a lot of different ways.
- 45:23Speaker 2: Favorite LSU baseball player of all time, Mine's easy. It's
- 45:26Speaker 2: Todd Walker. Todd was from the same area that I
- 45:29Speaker 2: was from. I knew his brother in law really well.
- 45:33Speaker 2: We were friends in high school and growing up. Always
- 45:36Speaker 2: proud of Todd Man being from three.
- 45:37Speaker 3: One great. I'm saying this one from my son Hutt
- 45:40Speaker 3: Tommy Tanks. All right, there you go, Jordan.
- 45:42Speaker 2: Favorite Helie baseball players, Morgan, that's a great one. DJ
- 45:45Speaker 2: Lo Mayhew, dj Lea Mayhew's a great one as well.
- 45:48Speaker 2: And y'all are great. We appreciate y'all. We'll see the
- 45:50Speaker 2: same time, the same place tomorrow. Until then, enjoyed the
- 45:53Speaker 2: rest of your day. Off the bench, all right, go
- 45:57Speaker 2: to central Plumbing dot org. Central plumbing dot Org is
- 45:59Speaker 2: the website for you, guess it's central plumbing, but not
- 46:02Speaker 2: only in central, in the entire greater Baton Rouge area.
