- 0:00get laced up let's go it's time for banter with
- 0:05the boys welcome back to banter with the boys
- 0:16fast laps where we got the mexico recap and the
- 0:20brazil preview joe welcome back buddy Thank you.
- 0:25No, welcome back to you. Yeah, welcome back.
- 0:27I haven't been here in a while. It's been a second.
- 0:29I feel like for a fast lapse. I mean, we haven't
- 0:31been here in a while. I guess Mike and I were
- 0:32here. Oh, yeah. Mike and I did a virtual one.
- 0:35That seemed to go well. I think it went very
- 0:37well. That seemed to go well. I had a good time.
- 0:38What did you use? Was that OBS, too? All of that?
- 0:42No. No, we didn't. No, it's a whole thing. Yeah,
- 0:44we used something else. Oh, God. Okay. That's
- 0:45okay. Secret sauce. Secret sauce. I'm happy to
- 0:51have you back. Happy that we can all be here
- 0:53in person, including Kev. Mike, what's up? I'm
- 0:58happy to be back. It's been a long time since
- 1:00I've been in this chair. I'm happy to be here
- 1:03again. We're all back. We're all happy -ish to
- 1:07be here. Happy -ish? Here it is. Fun race? It
- 1:11was a fun race. The one that took place like...
- 1:14A while ago, the Mexico recap. Yeah, these are
- 1:16hard to remember, I feel like, after a while.
- 1:19For sure. So that's why we're here to remind
- 1:21people. You know what I mean? Yeah. I don't know
- 1:24how many other podcasts are going to... And we
- 1:27don't even go into that much detail. We could
- 1:29go into way more detail. We cut it off. True.
- 1:32So maybe people are still looking for a Mexico
- 1:35recap. Maybe. So with that, let's just roll right
- 1:37into it, Kev. Let's get into our Mexico GP recap.
- 1:41Recap. And welcome back for our Mexico GB recap.
- 1:54Our pre -race banter. We're talking about the
- 1:56quali, the practice, yada, yada, yada. You know
- 1:58what it is. Usually, I turn to Joe for any notes
- 2:02on that. Was it eventful enough for notes for
- 2:05Joe? Not really. Nothing. Which is good. That's
- 2:08good. I literally have... Oh, Lando had some
- 2:11car issues in FP2, apparently. He had a bad weekend
- 2:15leading up to the race, except for the quali.
- 2:17And the only thing I got... Wait, was this Mexico?
- 2:20I think so. FP1, Kickhead was fast in FP1, I
- 2:25believe. Oh, okay, yeah. Which was cool to see.
- 2:27Yeah. Like third and fifth. Yeah, and then Red
- 2:30Bull had a new floor for Max this weekend as
- 2:32well. That's the only thing I had. The only other
- 2:33thing I had. Okay, okay. Yeah, nothing crazy,
- 2:36nothing wrong with that. Our starting grid for
- 2:39the GP, Lando Charles Lewis, George, Max, Kimmy.
- 2:47Oscar Piastri, Isaac Hadjar, Bierman, and Yuki.
- 2:51But the finishing 10, Lando, Charles, Max, Bierman.
- 2:57So can't wait to hear what you got to say. Oscar,
- 3:01Kimmy, George, Lewis, Ocon, Bortoletto. So interesting
- 3:09way to end the race there. So let's just get
- 3:11right into it here. We'll start off with... Let's
- 3:14just start off with Alpine because they're the
- 3:16lowest team with two finishing cars. So that's
- 3:22it. Worst of the cars that didn't DNF. That's
- 3:24really all I have. I mean, things are just bad.
- 3:28I mean, generally bad. And there's no look. Okay,
- 3:32so the only look is what we were just talking
- 3:33about off air, if you will, is that, God forbid,
- 3:38if it rains this weekend in Brazil. Sure. During
- 3:40the GP. Then maybe. Pierre Gasly can maybe get
- 3:45some points, but I don't know. I'm not holding
- 3:48my breath. Yeah, I don't know. You guys got anything
- 3:53loving to say about Alpine? Nothing bad. Oh,
- 3:56never. No, never. I wasn't gassing them up per
- 4:00se, but if they are making any moves, Brazil's...
- 4:04kind of the one to do it i think um i'm almost
- 4:07wondering if i mean you guys probably know better
- 4:09than i do have they given up completely on this
- 4:11year's car like they're not giving any upgrades
- 4:12i can't expect something surprising for brazil
- 4:15last i heard is that they're just completely
- 4:16off it they're looking at next year they're just
- 4:18reno stopped developing this car like stopped
- 4:22developing this engine like eight months ago
- 4:24yeah that's why the power has not been in the
- 4:27car at all yeah so like yeah yeah so i mean i
- 4:31maybe we'll see something happening man Yeah,
- 4:35truly. Mercedes power. That's it. Which is true.
- 4:39Mercedes power. You never know. They could come
- 4:40back. Bounce back for Alpine. It's possible.
- 4:42Here we go. It's possible. Here we go. Maybe.
- 4:44All right. Let's see. Next up. They need to figure
- 4:46out who their drivers are first. Next up. Calm
- 4:48down. Well, for one of the seats, buddy. Yeah,
- 4:52true. True. Tell me to calm down. All right.
- 4:55Aston here. Alonzo, DNF, Stroll, 14th. And Alonzo's
- 5:03car was retired for all I could find was really
- 5:05just like a possible brake issue, I guess. So
- 5:07they just decided to retire it. So nothing else
- 5:09got worse. Yeah. Was this the race? Remind me,
- 5:12was this the race where he wasn't told to pit?
- 5:14He just did it and retired on his own? Or was
- 5:16that the race before? I don't think that was
- 5:18this one. I don't remember, actually. I don't
- 5:20think this was this one. Again, bear with us.
- 5:22This was a minute ago. I don't think that was
- 5:25this one. No, I think the person who this time.
- 5:30had pit and just retired was Hulkenberg, wasn't
- 5:34it? Well, Hulkenberg ended up having to retire
- 5:37because of a power unit issue during formation
- 5:39lap. Well, correct. So he retired just before
- 5:42they even got to start. No, he raced, didn't
- 5:45he? I thought he started. He raced his first
- 5:48stint. He drove through his first stint, and
- 5:50then he had to retire when he went into the pits
- 5:52because they couldn't get the power issue figured
- 5:54out. So they just said, you know, heck it, just
- 5:57get in the garage. You're not going to score
- 5:59points. Let's just save the rest of the engine.
- 6:03Well, either way, we'll look it up. We'll look
- 6:05it up. I don't know. I thought he didn't even
- 6:07start, but either way. Unimpressive for Aston.
- 6:11Yeah, no, obviously unimpressive for Aston. I
- 6:13mean, Lance spinning out early, and then after
- 6:18that, he wasn't really able to ever rebound.
- 6:20Yep. But he beat the Alpines. Woo -hoo. All right.
- 6:25Next up after this, now. I don't know if we're
- 6:28waiting to talk about the Liam Lawson -Marshall
- 6:31thing. I think that's coming up, so we'll wait.
- 6:34But Liam also DNFs. And then Isaac, after a P8
- 6:40quali, not able to finish with points. Kev's
- 6:44boy. Kev's boy. We've got to find some F1 Isaac
- 6:47Hedger cards. Big sad from Kev. Big sad. Unfortunate
- 6:52race from them, but, you know. It happens. This
- 6:56is a pretty demanding track. Okay, yeah, you're
- 7:02right. Nico was racing. Yeah. For some reason,
- 7:04I thought he didn't even make it out of the formation
- 7:06lap. He was having power issues in the formation
- 7:11lap, and they just kind of told him, just roll
- 7:13with it, and we'll see if we can fix it from
- 7:14here. Yeah, and they weren't able to get things
- 7:15going. And they weren't able to get it fixed,
- 7:17and he was just struggling out there, just pushing
- 7:19as hard as he could, but couldn't really make
- 7:20anything happen. So they just said, we're just
- 7:23going to save the engine. Save the rest of the
- 7:25parts. Just retire. Get out of the car. Sure.
- 7:28You're done. You're done. It's over. Go take
- 7:30your bath. Williams. Hatcher didn't retire. Liam.
- 7:34Liam retired. Liam did. Okay. I thought you may
- 7:36have said Hatcher. No, no. Liam. That's my bad.
- 7:37Or Lawson. Or Liam. Yeah. But what about Williams?
- 7:43Now, we were talking before we started. Does
- 7:45Williams, they have fifth locked up? I don't
- 7:48think they're. It's not locked up. It's pretty.
- 7:51It's like they're in a really good spot. They're
- 7:52at 111. points right now like we like 70 30 here
- 7:5670 70 leaning towards they got it locked i think
- 7:59so yeah so i would maybe even give it more i
- 8:01don't think any team has even okay yeah especially
- 8:03with how much the other teams are fighting each
- 8:05other there's no one who can really trailblaze
- 8:07forward and sure yeah i mean so like their main
- 8:10competitor currently is v carb um and they are
- 8:1342 sorry 40 ish 39 ish points away yeah that's
- 8:17going to be tough to make up within four or three
- 8:20races four races especially with another race
- 8:23for them with a dnf and a p13 finish despite
- 8:28Despite how badly Williams has been turning up,
- 8:31I really feel like there's good pace in the car
- 8:33right now. They just are making mistakes or something's
- 8:37going wrong. Albon has been off pace recently,
- 8:40I will say. I don't think he's really done his
- 8:41best. But Sainz has shown great potential. It's
- 8:45just something goes wrong every single time.
- 8:48I don't pay the closest attention to Albon, but
- 8:51I feel like I recall him usually struggling in
- 8:53the later races in the year. I feel like he usually
- 8:57tends to struggle in the... last couple races
- 8:58you know it's hard for me to say i've really
- 9:01been paying attention to him this year like for
- 9:03like a lot um but it's possible i mean i mean
- 9:06neither of them had had have had like a great
- 9:08year up until halfway through right uh he himself
- 9:11albon is let's see he's eighth currently so he
- 9:17has he has put in some points he's quite quite
- 9:19far ahead than signs is to be fair but like recently
- 9:22i just signs on a really slow start yeah science
- 9:24is a really really bad start right so still giving
- 9:27albon his flowers obviously um it's just recently
- 9:29i just feel like he hasn't been to form yeah
- 9:31i mean signs has been surging ahead but just
- 9:33been really bad luck i mean i think in brazil
- 9:35in not brazil in mexico he had pit limiter issues
- 9:38so every time he went to the pit he would get
- 9:40a 10 second penalty and that's just like or drive
- 9:43through and then he'd go through get another
- 9:44drive through because he was still speeding so
- 9:46It's like so painful. It was so incredibly painful
- 9:49to watch him. Because I think, where did he start?
- 9:52He wasn't in points, but I think he was, I don't
- 9:57think he was too far off. Q2, I think? Let me
- 9:59see. Starting grid. I'm guessing 13th. He was
- 10:0412th. So not in points, but close -ish, I guess.
- 10:11Albon did climb a bit. He started in 17th and
- 10:13then 12th. But I mean, like, we had five. dnfs
- 10:15right or so three i think three dnfs and alpines
- 10:18so yeah five yeah good point you're right yeah
- 10:23three dnfs and yeah the alpines so you gotta
- 10:25get you gotta like you know what's getting 15th
- 10:28is not you know what's really interesting uh
- 10:31on the official standings no this doesn't make
- 10:34sense it doesn't show signs as having dnf for
- 10:37some reason even though he definitely did right
- 10:40But on the official standings on the F1 website,
- 10:43it says he finished in 17th. No, it doesn't.
- 10:45Never mind. Oh, okay. To be fair, he did finish
- 10:48in 17th, but like... But the other cards have
- 10:51no contest. But it's showing him as... As 17th.
- 10:55Yeah, weird. That might just be like a technical
- 10:57thing I don't understand. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, who
- 10:59knows? Semantics. File a complaint. Yeah, okay,
- 11:02I'll do that. Yep. But yeah, I feel like they've
- 11:04got pace. It's just a matter of... keeping it
- 11:07on track and their car working, I suppose. But
- 11:10otherwise, yeah, pretty disappointing. Yeah,
- 11:12it was a hard one to watch. But again, the body
- 11:14of work as a whole can't be that disappointed
- 11:17in the entire season. Just hopefully they can
- 11:19finish out strong, lock up fifth. And nobody
- 11:22would have had them other than you, right, Joe?
- 11:25Or who had them fifth? I don't think any of us
- 11:27had them. None of us had them fifth. I had them
- 11:29sixth, so I had them the highest out of, I think,
- 11:31us. Nobody would have thought they would. Going
- 11:35into halfway through the season, I'm like, Williams
- 11:37could do it. Williams could get fifth. They've
- 11:39had a decent season. If they aren't working on
- 11:43their car anymore, they could have a decent 2026.
- 11:45We'll see. The historic team on the rise. Let's
- 11:51see. Oh, and I do have some news about them when
- 11:53we get to news. For Williams? Yeah. Oh, okay.
- 11:55They made an announcement, I think, yesterday.
- 11:57Oh, yeah. I think I know what you're talking
- 11:58about. Oh, sweet. Yeah. Bring that on. Bring
- 12:00that on. Ooh, it's Red Bull next, technically,
- 12:04with Yuki's P11 that we're talking about. Yeah.
- 12:07Okay. Yep. Max, all I had was he was just out
- 12:11here mowing lawns early on, really sending it.
- 12:14The angle of the video that you showed me before
- 12:16we started from somebody in the stands is just
- 12:19pure insanity. Yeah. I mean, the kahunas like
- 12:23truly it doesn't say on him the like whatever
- 12:26camera angle i mean like it's still crazy seeing
- 12:28him do it from the camera angle f1 provided but
- 12:31like from that phone view you see how fast he
- 12:33truly was going the entire time he was going
- 12:35over that grass he like it almost looked like
- 12:37he didn't slow down like he was no i imagine
- 12:39it was flooring it all the way through crazy
- 12:41crazy yeah so gotta give him props for I guess
- 12:44not putting it in the wall, I think any lesser
- 12:47driver is in the wall, 100%. For sure. I mean,
- 12:50it was a crazy move. He did give a position back
- 12:54that he took. I don't think... There was a lot
- 13:01of... There were a lot of wrong things that happened
- 13:03here, and there were a lot of penalties given
- 13:05out, or there were definitely a lot of things
- 13:07noted, and there were a couple penalties given
- 13:09out. I don't think, this is not me hating Max.
- 13:12I just feel like he cut the corners a little
- 13:16too much at times. He was driving a little too
- 13:19fast under the virtual safety car at the end
- 13:21with Charles. He gained a lot of time there,
- 13:24and nothing was even, I think the fact that nothing
- 13:27was even. noted just kind of rubbed me the wrong
- 13:32way. I feel a little bit better if it was at
- 13:34least noted. How much time did he grab? He grabbed
- 13:38straight up I feel like six tenths to a second.
- 13:42Did you see that Charles actually made a comment
- 13:46in regard to Max under the safety car? He made
- 13:49a comment to his engineer being like, Max, that's
- 13:53a penalty for sure. You caught up so much under
- 13:55the safety car. He goes, make sure they look
- 13:57at Max. And I guess they looked at Max and decided
- 14:00everything was... It was kosher. I don't know,
- 14:03man. Listen, I don't want to say it's 2021, but
- 14:08the FAA are keeping its chances alive, okay?
- 14:11I want to point out that they've got way more
- 14:13information on his telemetry than we do. You're
- 14:16right. I'm a side observer. You're completely
- 14:19correct. I think that the... I'm a side observer.
- 14:21I am of the standpoint that the... I was like,
- 14:24what? Him running off the side of the road and
- 14:28cutting the grass, right? Especially because
- 14:32he gave the position back when he did that to,
- 14:35I think it was Lewis. He ran Lewis off the road.
- 14:40No, we're not talking about that. In turn one,
- 14:43lap one, turn one. I think he ran off the road.
- 14:46I think it was Charles he gave the position back
- 14:48to, right? That I had no quarrels with. I'm like,
- 14:53okay, you know, you did your thing. He did overtake
- 14:56somebody off the track and gave the position
- 14:59back right away. That's fine. I don't think he
- 15:01should have gotten a penalty for that. I think
- 15:03where he should have gotten the penalty for,
- 15:05if he was going to get a penalty, was when he
- 15:07was racing against Lewis and he was wheel bumping
- 15:09against Lewis. I was like, I could see him taking
- 15:13a five second for that. And I was a little surprised
- 15:15he didn't take one, to be fair. Um, I think all
- 15:18of the arguments about him going off the road
- 15:20and him forcing Lewis off the road was like,
- 15:22you know, they were racing that dive bomb that
- 15:24Lewis made on him. Lewis was never making that
- 15:26corner with how he, with how deep he took that
- 15:29and how late he broke. He was never making that
- 15:31corner, especially not with a car on the inside.
- 15:33So I don't think that was max forcing him off
- 15:36the road. I think that was Lewis going for a
- 15:37gap that wasn't there. Um, so I, I think if he
- 15:42was going to get a penalty, it should have been
- 15:43for the wheel bumping, but say Libby. Sure. yeah
- 15:47i don't know i i just i feel like he was overlooked
- 15:50a little bit this race i think i was like like
- 15:53i said at least expecting noted like he made
- 15:56some moves that were a little questionable i
- 15:58think one of the arguments i had immediately
- 16:00and i and i don't I still think I'd have to like
- 16:02really talk it out. And I don't even, I don't
- 16:05even fully believe myself currently is like,
- 16:07he was so far away from Russell. He was so far
- 16:10ahead of Russell that it doesn't make sense that
- 16:13he should have to give the place back to Russell
- 16:15or anything. Right. That being said, coming,
- 16:19going off track. keeping your speed then coming
- 16:22back on and still being ahead of someone who's
- 16:25you're kind of sort of fighting with or at least
- 16:27is right there it's still a little weird just
- 16:31because it's like well yes it's unlikely that
- 16:33george would have got him anyway but we don't
- 16:35know because he went off track and then he stayed
- 16:37in his position that still could be seen as gaining
- 16:39an advantage a little bit at the end of the day
- 16:40he probably didn't but it was a little weird
- 16:43that none of it was really like noted i would
- 16:45have been more inclined to agree with that if
- 16:47it weren't for the fact that he had more than
- 16:49a car length ahead of George Russell. Like, literally,
- 16:52he was at parity with the two Ferraris, and that
- 16:56meant that George was fully behind all three
- 16:58of them. And at that point, like, George isn't
- 17:00fighting that position. So, like, there's no
- 17:02reason for them to give it back. Sure. As for
- 17:06Yuki Sonoda for Red Bull, qualified in points,
- 17:09didn't finish in points. End of story. I mean,
- 17:11that's... End of story. Yeah, that's rough. That's
- 17:14it. That's tough. Got to finish in points, man.
- 17:17Haas. Bierman finishing fourth, but Ocon with
- 17:20ninth. Are we at Haas already? Holy cow. Yeah,
- 17:22we're at Haas. Yeah. I mean, I wore the whole
- 17:25getup. I got the whole getup. This was the great
- 17:28day. I was on a call with Joe when we were watching
- 17:30the race together, and the whole... kerfuffle
- 17:35that happened during the race where you know
- 17:38max and lewis had their thing and just oliver
- 17:40behrman was just there and he was just like don't
- 17:44mind me i'm just gonna come on through and we
- 17:46saw him get ahead and slot himself into fourth
- 17:51And then they slapped Lewis Hamilton with that
- 17:5310 second penalty. And I literally was out of
- 17:56my chair like, oh my God, Oliver's on the podium.
- 17:58Like, what are the odds that he holds this? And
- 18:01as the race went on, I was like, okay, okay,
- 18:03this is looking kind of bad. And they made their
- 18:05one, which might have been seen as an off call,
- 18:09having him pit that second pit stop that was
- 18:12late. It was in reaction to... Almost everyone
- 18:18else doing it. Yeah, like pretty much all the
- 18:20frontrunners except for Max, right? I think Max
- 18:22did it too. No, I don't think he did. I think
- 18:25Max took a one -stopper, didn't he? Maybe you're
- 18:28right. Yeah, I'm fairly certain Max took a one
- 18:30-stopper. Yep, one. so yeah so pretty much everyone
- 18:35but max did it right and so haas took the call
- 18:38that they saw everybody else making into haas's
- 18:41defense they're not used to running this far
- 18:43up i don't think so there was a lot of one stops
- 18:45there were a lot of one stops i Yeah, I mean,
- 18:48that was an interesting, not a move that I saw
- 18:50a lot of teams doing, but yeah, it was a weird
- 18:52thing seeing them all kind of move on to another
- 18:54stop near the end there. I don't think it would
- 18:57have changed much for Behrman, unfortunately.
- 18:59I mean, you got Verstappen chasing you. There's
- 19:01no way. Verstappen on fresher tires in the faster
- 19:05car. The better driver, he's going to get him.
- 19:09Yeah. They see him as like, this is not like
- 19:11a possibility he gets you. This is like, he's
- 19:13definitely going to get you. No matter when.
- 19:15Yeah. And so like, let's pitch you and see if
- 19:17maybe you can get him back. Just like. Exactly.
- 19:20Yeah. Maybe. Right. And he obviously couldn't.
- 19:23Yeah. That's fine. But fourth. But fourth is
- 19:24awesome. One of Haas's best finishes ever. Yeah.
- 19:28Right. In his rookie season. Ollie's best finish
- 19:33ever. Now there's a bunch of talk about, you
- 19:36know, the Tifosi are clambering for Oliver Behrman
- 19:39to come to Ferrari. So it's pretty exciting.
- 19:44And then Esteban Ocon gave him his flowers. He
- 19:46raced his way up into the points. He got points.
- 19:48So that's a double point finish for Haas. We
- 19:50are very happy. These upgrades we got at Koda
- 19:54are paying dividends. Truly. Dividends. You mentioned
- 20:00Tafosi, so let's go with Ferrari right here because
- 20:02Hamilton finished 8th. Charles getting P2. Joe
- 20:06looks stressed out. Do you remember where my
- 20:09podium was, Melty? I have it here, Joe. Your
- 20:16podium was Max, Lando, and Lewis. Do you know
- 20:23how excited I was? that he qualified third, I
- 20:29was like, oh, my God, it's going to happen. He's
- 20:31going to get a podium, and I won't get a perfect
- 20:33one because hopefully Verstappen is nowhere near
- 20:36the podium, but I could get a good amount of
- 20:39points here, and you guys wouldn't get that many.
- 20:41And then, oh, man, that 10 -second penalty, bro.
- 20:45Killer. Killer. killer is that standard for the
- 20:48cutting the corners 10 okay i think recently
- 20:51it has been it has at least at the later part
- 20:54of like seasons i've seen them more this season
- 20:56it has been the standard for leaving the track
- 20:58and gaining an advantage for that particular
- 21:01that particular and then yeah his week has just
- 21:04got worse and worse like as the pit stops kind
- 21:06of happened he just could there's just no way
- 21:07he was catching up yeah it was it was really
- 21:10really rough he he started in a really good position
- 21:12and just yeah that 10 second killed him man That
- 21:15was really, really rough. I was nervous when
- 21:17I saw that him and Max were fighting because,
- 21:19boy, those two, they get their elbows out. I
- 21:22was excited. No, and that's what I put down for
- 21:24underneath the Max Bowles. It was nice to see
- 21:29a legit fight between those two again. Just,
- 21:30you know, real quick, a little brief one. God,
- 21:32they fight like the Dickens. Yeah. They fight
- 21:35like the Dickens. Yeah, I love it. All right.
- 21:38Yeah. Probably a deserved penalty, though. He
- 21:40did, like, it was like a weird cut. But he did
- 21:43definitely come out on track way ahead of everyone
- 21:45else, way more than he should have. And the commentators
- 21:48were clamoring like his team should have told
- 21:50him to back up. And I was like, yeah, probably.
- 21:52So it's like a Ferrari L. I don't know if it's
- 21:54exactly Hamilton's fault. It's definitely...
- 21:56Mixable. He's the one driving, right? Yeah, right.
- 21:58The team's not driving the car, but they can
- 22:01also see how much ground he just gained on that.
- 22:06Okay, okay. Still, we need a Ferrari fan. We'd
- 22:09love to hear from you. Comment, whatever. You
- 22:11know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. Let's see, who
- 22:13would be next? Is it Mercedes? I mean, really
- 22:14quick, we'll call you second. Yeah, I mean, yeah,
- 22:16Charles. Yeah, great finish. He was able to hold
- 22:19P2 because... We didn't even talk about this
- 22:21yet. That weird VSC at the end of the race. So,
- 22:26okay, I don't know if we brought... Did you guys...
- 22:28I was kind of in my own space for a second there.
- 22:30I was going non -verbal for a second. Did you
- 22:32guys talk about the Marshall and Lawson thing
- 22:34that happened? Not really because I was saving
- 22:37it for the quick thoughts. Okay, I'll just knock
- 22:40it out right here really quick because I think
- 22:42these are the two biggest... That plus the Lawson
- 22:47thing. So... signs spins out hits the track a
- 22:51little bit and pulls forward almost completely
- 22:53out of the track yep right vsc comes out and
- 22:57the commandeer said he looks like he's in a safe
- 22:59it looks like he's in a pretty safe spot um it
- 23:01makes i i totally agree double yellow that section
- 23:04that sector fine that makes sense but a vsc to
- 23:09pull a car probably 10 feet little weird um lawson
- 23:15uh had a a very a very random or impromptu pit
- 23:21stop um so he was very far away from the pack
- 23:24um and so marshalls went on track thinking it
- 23:26was clear and there's a video of lawson turning
- 23:29the corner almost directly into the marshalls
- 23:32um very very quickly i'm going on a side tangent
- 23:36to my tangent very very quickly people online
- 23:38were like i can't believe he would do that he
- 23:40didn't even move he's like that's not on lawson
- 23:42even in the slide no that's on fia that's on
- 23:44the stewards that's on the marshals 100 100 not
- 23:46on lawson no i bet i another point was like he
- 23:49probably he it's good he didn't move because
- 23:51then he's unpredictable if he moves right so
- 23:53it's good he kept his line um We get a VSC for
- 23:57a car that's off track completely, but marshals
- 24:00are standing on the track with the car incoming
- 24:03and a yellow flag. That's crazy to me. So I heard
- 24:09a rebuttal to this because it's been a hot talking
- 24:14point for the last two weeks, right? And I don't
- 24:17disagree with a point that was made, or at least...
- 24:20It's a wrong call for the FIA to make, but I
- 24:22see why they made it. And it's because they were
- 24:24overcompensating. They watched that happen and
- 24:28they saw the Carlos signs needed to get. into
- 24:33the space carlos signs was not as far in as he
- 24:36was supposed to be his back tires were still
- 24:38out and so that's why they waved the double yellows
- 24:42was because he needed to get in and they weren't
- 24:45able to pull his car in so they needed marshals
- 24:47to get out onto the track and push his car in
- 24:50so to the what runoff onto the runoff to push
- 24:53his car in yeah so this The person who I saw
- 24:56online was theorizing that the reason that the
- 24:58FIA did a VSC was because of the blowback from
- 25:02what happened earlier with the Lawson thing,
- 25:03that they didn't want to take a risk on something
- 25:05else. So they overcompensated and did this, called
- 25:10out the safety car to be like, look, guys, we
- 25:13do care about the marshals and we do care about
- 25:16their safety. And it wound up. biting them in
- 25:19the butt like even more yeah but the first one
- 25:21was definitely still a massive f up like you
- 25:24massively effed up but i see you can't make up
- 25:27for it with that though i see where the logic
- 25:30comes from in their head now and i'm like this
- 25:32i see how it happened trying to save face like
- 25:34that you're trying to save face like okay honestly
- 25:37honestly i wouldn't i don't think i would have
- 25:40even been i probably would have been like this
- 25:42is kind of weird but like like i would if they
- 25:46put the vsc out for the first incident with lawson
- 25:49yeah probably wouldn't have hurt as much if they
- 25:51did it again for signs because they're doing
- 25:53the same thing essentially right but it yeah
- 25:55like because i mean the same thing could have
- 25:57happened someone could have gone off just like
- 25:59signs and then hit the marshals as they're pulling
- 26:01out out the car right exactly so it makes sense
- 26:03that they slow them down marshals were I think
- 26:06you're right, actually. I think that was a very
- 26:08good point. They did it because they're overcompensating
- 26:11because they misjudged a serious situation. People
- 26:15were standing on an active green flag, not green
- 26:21flag, yellow flag track. That's crazy. And they
- 26:23were not the last guy out of the two, or girl,
- 26:26whoever, sorry, but the last person. of the two
- 26:31people running back across the track like wasn't
- 26:33even halfway back across by the time lawson was
- 26:35coming around that corner they were still running
- 26:37into the track to pick up more debris i feel
- 26:39like yeah they were like halfway done just yeah
- 26:41it's just and at the end of the day i don't blame
- 26:43the marshals either it's just a horrible lack
- 26:45of communication it was bad timing in general
- 26:47in their ear like no no no no 100 huge really
- 26:51bad timing because i mean like they're not expecting
- 26:54someone to be pitting right there but lawson
- 26:56is having issues it's still like there's cameras
- 26:58everywhere like that's You would think there's
- 27:00got to be way more eyes involved. There was some
- 27:03break in comms, obviously. I doubt every single
- 27:06Marshall has. I guess I don't know, actually.
- 27:11Do they all have, like, headset? I don't think
- 27:13they do. I think there's probably someone managing
- 27:15them. Like a walkie -talkie or something. Yeah,
- 27:16exactly. Like a supervisor for every corner or
- 27:19something like that. I don't know. Yeah, so I
- 27:21wanted to just say that since we were on LeClaire,
- 27:24the yellow flag came out, stopped Max from getting
- 27:27LeClaire. I think Max probably would have, honestly.
- 27:29Max would have gotten him, for sure. Kastri was
- 27:31also chasing down Bearman. Probably a little
- 27:33less likely he got Bearman, but it would have
- 27:35been a lot closer. Would have been closer. Would
- 27:36have been way closer. So, yeah, that was kind
- 27:39of the answer. end of the race there too cool
- 27:40cool cool kind of a bummer uh real quick because
- 27:42we gotta do keep this thing moving and i definitely
- 27:45want to hear obviously your take on mclaren uh
- 27:48real quick with mercedes kimmy finishing p6 george
- 27:51russell finishing p7 um they might have made
- 27:55i just put here they might have made the most
- 27:57unmarvelous switch ever um it was intended entertaining
- 28:01though because like I was just like, what is
- 28:05going on? What are we doing? It was just such
- 28:07a weird moment to make it happen, and I agree
- 28:09with why they were switching, but that's the
- 28:14reason why Oscar ended up getting passed. It
- 28:16annoyed me, but whatever. I think Oscar probably
- 28:19would have got them both at some point anyway,
- 28:21but they just accelerated that process. Do you
- 28:24think they should have kept positions, or do
- 28:26you think they should have let Russell through
- 28:27way quicker? I wish they would have done it quicker
- 28:30just to see what happens, but I agree with Russell,
- 28:32and I got his calm. That was amazing, and we'll
- 28:37go over that in calm call -outs. But, you know,
- 28:42I agree with – I wish they would have done it
- 28:43quicker, and then I'm glad he's the one that
- 28:46said, I'll give the position back if I cannot
- 28:48catch him. You know, no big deal, but let me
- 28:50go. I mean, it's got to be a tough pill to swallow,
- 28:53though, after finally getting ahead and making
- 28:55no traction. And then he has to give the position
- 28:58back. It was so satisfying for me when he got
- 29:02the call. All right, swap the cars. I could feel
- 29:05his dread. Oh, yeah, for sure. But it was the
- 29:09right call. 100%. It was the right call. And
- 29:12look to next week, I guess. But McLaren. lando
- 29:18with the p1 that's it this is the last one yeah
- 29:21wow yeah teams were really spread out except
- 29:24for alpine extremely yeah we're very close together
- 29:27yeah but um except yeah i mean lando verstappen
- 29:31did right he kept he kept p1 through t1 and he
- 29:34he just brought it home and that's all she wrote
- 29:36for lando so did he get a grand slam did he no
- 29:41i do not oh actually he Grand slam just being
- 29:45quality in the race? He starts in first, finishes
- 29:49in first, holds first for every lap, and gets
- 29:52fastest lap. I don't think he held first. I don't
- 29:57think he held first either. I'll let you look
- 30:01up on your tab there to see when they pit. I
- 30:04don't think he got a grand slam. I don't think
- 30:06so either. Either way. It's still a dominant
- 30:09drive. Absolutely dominant drive. He finished.
- 30:1430 seconds ahead of Leclerc. It was in the bag.
- 30:21He takes the lead of the World Driver Championship.
- 30:25Really big thing to note as well. He is now one
- 30:28point ahead. Is he only really one point? One
- 30:32point ahead of Oscar Piastri. He's one point
- 30:35ahead of Oscar Piastri. So it begs the question,
- 30:40it was a tough race for Piastri. He capitalized
- 30:42on it being a tough race, something he wasn't
- 30:44able to do in Baku. Piastri kind of out of form
- 30:49recently. Extremely out of form recently. Do
- 30:53you guys have any takes on why that might be?
- 30:55He's got to be in his head. I don't know because
- 30:58it's extremely weird. He's definitely nowhere
- 31:02near as aggressive as he was earlier in the season.
- 31:06And we weren't comparing him to Max by any means.
- 31:08We were like, he was making like Max -esque moves,
- 31:12you know, as far as being aggressive. So it's
- 31:15just, I don't know what happened. I don't know
- 31:17if he's trying to play it more conservative and
- 31:19it's just completely backfiring on him. He's
- 31:22just trying to be a little bit safer. After that
- 31:24whole, I can't remember what race it was. It's
- 31:26probably like, what, five races ago when him
- 31:28and Lando got into it a little bit. So I don't
- 31:32know if that kind of changed him. Was it that
- 31:33moment that now things have changed a little
- 31:35bit? Maybe. Even though he got the upper hand
- 31:37at that moment. But I don't know. I don't know.
- 31:39It's weird. It's extremely weird. Because what's
- 31:42Lando's lead right now? One or something? One
- 31:44point? Yeah. What do you think, Mark? I think
- 31:47he's historically been not fabulous in the Americas.
- 31:53I mean, obviously, he did pretty well in Canada.
- 31:57But even then, though, still a third -place finish.
- 32:00Like, yeah, historically. Oh, and he did win
- 32:04Miami, didn't he? I don't remember. That was
- 32:09a while ago. Either way, I feel like historically
- 32:11he's not been super great in the Americas. He
- 32:14struggled in the Americas. And I mean, he's struggled
- 32:18his time here. Like he did win in Miami. Yeah.
- 32:23His last win was Zandvoort. So it was after break.
- 32:26Right after break. But that was also after Lando
- 32:32had DNF'd and McLaren DNF'd. Max Verstappen has
- 32:35had more wins after break than McLaren as a whole.
- 32:38Yeah. Interesting. Have you heard the Kimi Antonelli
- 32:43T102 or TIO2 theory? It's like a stupid internet
- 32:49theory that Kimi Antonelli, anytime he's in a
- 32:53state or a country... where a TIO2 is like a
- 32:56type of food dye, and it's banned in certain
- 32:58countries, and anywhere that this food is banned,
- 33:01he finishes outside the points, and anywhere
- 33:03it's legal, he finishes in the points. Who figured
- 33:06this out? Some guy on Reddit. Who knew this?
- 33:08Somebody else on Reddit. What the heck? Somebody
- 33:11else on Reddit has turned this around and found
- 33:13Oscar Piastri's bugbear, and it's like anywhere
- 33:16that he needs to fly to that's outside of Europe,
- 33:19if he needs to fly to a country, he notoriously
- 33:22finishes poorly at. versus if he's in the Europe
- 33:27area, then he notoriously finishes well. Interesting.
- 33:31His average points were 15 when he has to fly
- 33:36versus 25 when he doesn't. 20 when he doesn't.
- 33:40That's crazy. It's like you're insane for thinking
- 33:46who this is. You don't have your comforts around?
- 33:51Who knows? world yeah but i mean wow i mean it's
- 33:56the pressure yeah maybe it is the flying thing
- 33:59i think i think more realistically it's a combination
- 34:01of i think it's a combination of him a uh struggling
- 34:07with being at the front of the championship you
- 34:09know first time fighting for a championship that
- 34:12That drags on a driver. But also couple that
- 34:15with him having car problems. He's been struggling
- 34:18with car balance and whatnot. And the team can't
- 34:21figure out what is going on and how to get him
- 34:23to a more comfortable position. I think those
- 34:26are really the big things that are affecting
- 34:27him. Another little pattern that I also saw online.
- 34:32You guys go way too deep into the internet. This
- 34:35is truly just scrolling. I'm not looking anything
- 34:39up. I don't know if that's better or worse. Almost
- 34:42every single time. I mean, I'm on a podcast for
- 34:47F1. Of course it's going to come up. What do
- 34:49you mean by algorithm? I'm on a podcast for F1.
- 34:52Goofy stats or something? You like to look over
- 34:54them on TikTok. There was a pattern. there was
- 34:59a pattern scene uh almost every time after lando
- 35:03has won a race oscar's won the next one almost
- 35:05every time the only the only uh The only time
- 35:09that hasn't happened was Red Bull Ring and Silverstone
- 35:11where Lando won both, but then Oscar won Spa
- 35:13right after. And then Lando won Hungara Ring,
- 35:17and then Oscar won Zandvoort. Other than Oscar's
- 35:22four in a row, or three in a row, but four in
- 35:25a row compared to Lando. I think one of us should
- 35:27put Oscar in. So I know who I'm putting in first.
- 35:30Yeah, no doubt, no doubt. Just to keep the pattern
- 35:33alive, you know? Hey, hey, hey, man. What do
- 35:35I know? I'm a human. I see patterns. Fair enough,
- 35:38fair enough. All right, let's move on here to
- 35:41calm call -outs. We should really get a transition
- 35:44for that, you know, like over or something, you
- 35:46know what I mean? Live pitching. So what do you
- 35:52got for calm call -outs? I truly, I think I only
- 35:55have the stuff you have, so you go for it. Okay,
- 35:57all right. Well, on lap six, the TV commentator,
- 35:59and this is... There was a lot going on the first
- 36:02few laps, in case you missed it. But the commentator
- 36:06just goes, oh, what a melee. Like, things were
- 36:09just, it was carnage, is what was going on. Yes.
- 36:14And then there was, okay, Cav, I'm going to need
- 36:16your help on this next one here. But then there
- 36:18was this one from George, and it was awesome.
- 36:22They wanted him to take care of his tires, and
- 36:25he was a little upset. He said, I've got to f***.
- 36:28car in my ass, okay? A car much quicker than
- 36:31ours. Which was PS3, by the way. I'm trying to
- 36:34hold position. I've got plenty more pace than
- 36:36Kimmy here, and we can fight for a podium. I'm
- 36:38happy to give the position back if I don't achieve
- 36:40it, but my tires are just getting f***ing sacked
- 36:43here. And they were just like, understood. God,
- 36:47that was such a great call -out. It was a good
- 36:49call -out. I have two more Russell ones that
- 36:52I want to comment as well. He's getting fired
- 36:53up. It was all around the same things. I'll need
- 36:56a little help for this one, too. I apologize.
- 36:59I think this one was before yours. He says...
- 37:04russell says i've got a mclaren up my ass want
- 37:07me to let him pass his engineer says no thank
- 37:10you russell responds with okay just checking
- 37:12and then i think this was that was lap uh that
- 37:19was lap 38 lap 41 russell's engineer says tire
- 37:23service temps are too high and he responds with
- 37:25marcus i've got a car up my ass Dude, George
- 37:31really took it home this week. He was mad, man.
- 37:35It was so good. This was not Scooby -Doo George
- 37:37anymore. These are some Fernando Alonso call
- 37:40-outs, and I am here for it. Mark, I've never
- 37:43heard him use his engineer's name before. He
- 37:47was so angry. I didn't even know his engineer's
- 37:50name was Marcus. Oh, my gosh. Oh, God, yeah.
- 37:55For those few laps, he was on one. Do you want
- 37:57me to let him pass? No. No. Okay, just check
- 38:00it. But just imagine being in the car knowing
- 38:02there's literally nothing else you can be doing
- 38:05right now. And they're just like, hey, get your
- 38:07stuff together. Get from here. I'm crying. All
- 38:16right. Let's see. Let's see. Quick thoughts from
- 38:19the boys. We didn't have any quick thoughts.
- 38:21The only one we did was the Liam Lawson thing
- 38:23barreling down towards the marshals. And we already
- 38:27covered that. So all good. i guess i guess you
- 38:31had one little bit of news so we won't do the
- 38:32transition for this i don't even know if we have
- 38:34one for news anyway so uh yeah so you heard the
- 38:44same news um so williams actually announced uh
- 38:47i think in the last day or two here that they
- 38:49were going to be changing their their logo and
- 38:52the way they represent themselves to, uh, an
- 38:55older logo that they used back in their original
- 38:58years, just changing the W right. Really changing
- 39:01their logo. And so moving forward, that'll be
- 39:04their new logo starting in 2026. Uh, okay. New
- 39:08life. New life. And they made a big precedent
- 39:12of talking about how this is to represent their
- 39:14times when they were constructors, champions,
- 39:17and how they were at the front of the pack. And
- 39:18they said that they're aiming to do that again.
- 39:20So big news in that. That's cool. Along the same
- 39:24lines of that, they also have a livery coming
- 39:28for Brazil. They're doing a golf livery. love
- 39:32the golf liveries mclaren had it for a little
- 39:34bit and then williams took it over oh i love
- 39:37the golf liveries we're gonna see that baby blue
- 39:39with orange it's gonna be great it's gonna be
- 39:41majestic also um lauren mechies has made announcements
- 39:46saying that they are going to continue improving
- 39:49this red bull car we are expecting to see an
- 39:52upgrade coming in sao paulo for max verstappen
- 39:57It is in part to help Verstappen in the championship,
- 40:01but also because they want to get their processes
- 40:05down. Lauren Mechies is really doing a lot of
- 40:09upheaval from where the prior team principal
- 40:13left it. For you Spotify listeners, Joe has taken
- 40:21off his hat and placed it over his heart. He's
- 40:24processing this right now. During the transition,
- 40:28we expect him to call his mom. She's been calling
- 40:31me. Oh, man. That is my news. That's the news.
- 40:38It looks cool. I looked at it. Are they going
- 40:41to be competitive off the bat next year? Yeah.
- 40:43So Lauren, Lauren actually did say that he goes,
- 40:46this might affect our car for next year. We noticed,
- 40:48we know that they're just focusing max. They're
- 40:51like, we're going to get this man is for championship.
- 40:52I mean, that's, that's part of it. But also the
- 40:55other part of it is that Lauren is trying to,
- 40:57like I said, he's trying to rebuild a lot of
- 40:59things and change the structure of how the team
- 41:01is ran. And so that's coming from the technical
- 41:04side. So yeah, I suppose. Yeah. I mean, if you,
- 41:08and if you get. Well, no, you don't get more
- 41:11time. They want to get this assembled and get
- 41:14this figured out now when they have all the variables
- 41:17as opposed to before next year when not only
- 41:21do they need to try and fix things that are left
- 41:23over so that Lauren can make changes, but also
- 41:26they need to work on their car, a brand new car
- 41:28at the same time. I got something juicy, but
- 41:34we're going to wait. Let's move on to the preview.
- 41:39Of the Brazil GP. Kev. Hit that. Whatever. Transition.
- 41:46Transition. And I am here to bring you up to
- 41:55speed for the Formula One MSC Cruises Grande
- 41:58Premio de Sao Paulo 2025. We have a sprint weekend
- 42:02ahead. Of course, as always, our fun fact, Interlagos
- 42:06was built on a plot of land unsuitable for housing,
- 42:08so they turned it into a track. Mike, with the
- 42:10weather. Oh, wow. This came up to me rather abruptly.
- 42:14I was just showing this off to you. I was just
- 42:18showing him the weather. So currently it is showing
- 42:20the weather for Sao Paulo on Sunday afternoon
- 42:22at 68 degrees Fahrenheit, roughly about 20 degrees
- 42:27Celsius for our... Nervous about something? Our
- 42:31non -imperial friends. I saw 20 % rain. There
- 42:33was zero when I looked this morning. Oh, yeah.
- 42:35Currently a 20 % chance of rain. And depending
- 42:39upon who you're asking, they're saying that we
- 42:41could see more chances of rain. Oh, yeah. During
- 42:43the race, by the way. So I read it would be wet
- 42:47for the start, probably, because rain was coming
- 42:50beforehand. But Brazil has shocked us before.
- 42:54Brazil is notably very rainy, especially this
- 42:57time of year. And I will be letting that influence
- 43:02my predictions 100%. So looking at last week,
- 43:07last year's Brazil race. I'm sorry. If you hear
- 43:13a bunch of banging around, there is a very lovable,
- 43:18big boned. Golden Retriever upstairs. Oh, that's
- 43:23Cooper. Okay, so it's the younger Golden Retriever
- 43:25just absolutely hot around upstairs. That's what
- 43:28you may hear in the background. But you can't
- 43:30stop us from getting up to speed, so let's go.
- 43:32Let's go through last year's race. And before
- 43:36we even get to the starting grid, we have a bit
- 43:38of carnage to get through. Yes. Wet track. Stroll
- 43:41gives his ass in a nice little spin off track
- 43:43and into the grass across the shoulder, tapping
- 43:45his front wing into the barrier. As he makes
- 43:47his way back to track, instead of taking the
- 43:49paved road right in front of him, he decides
- 43:51to cut through the beach and he gets stuck there.
- 43:53Ending any chance of him racing in Brazil. We're
- 43:57at the grid. Lander to George to Yuki in the
- 43:59top three. They lead the track off the line on
- 44:02an aborted start. Wrongly. A couple of folks
- 44:05were noted for starting procedure infringements
- 44:07as they should have stayed in place instead of
- 44:09starting another formation lap. I don't believe
- 44:11any in race penalties were given. I think it
- 44:14was fine. Max was upset. Yeah, Max was definitely
- 44:18upset. He was like, they shouldn't have done
- 44:19that. You have to wait for the green. A little
- 44:25later. We finally get underway through T1. George
- 44:28makes up the first position on Lando with the
- 44:30Alpine of Ocon starting to fight Yuki for third.
- 44:33You heard that, the Alpine. Yep. Later in the
- 44:35lap, Checo in the second Red Bull spins and loses
- 44:37all of his positions except for one, ending up
- 44:39in 18th ahead of Albon. Ali picks up a 10 -second
- 44:43penalty for hitting the back of Colapinto. No
- 44:45huge damage, but a collision nonetheless. Nonetheless?
- 44:48Nonetheless. Take it easy, Mike Tyson. Oh, man.
- 44:52Somewhere in there, Albon also retires from the
- 44:55race. All right. Max Verstappen starting his
- 44:58race in 17th. By lap five, he is making his way
- 45:02into the points, getting past Hamilton and then
- 45:05Gasly. He keeps his stride and makes his way
- 45:09past Alonso and Piastri for seventh by lap 10,
- 45:12making up a position per lap. Lap 26. The wet.
- 45:30The wet. Under the safety car, Colapinto's made
- 45:48an absolute wreckage of his car after finding
- 45:51the barriers while losing control on track. This
- 45:53brings out the red flag, during which we found
- 45:56that the marshals did help push Hulkenberg off
- 45:58of his impeachment, effectively disqualifying
- 46:01him from the weight race. What's up? Just a mid...
- 46:04No, you're good. I think you should take a breath.
- 46:07You're killing it. How you guys doing? Good?
- 46:08Good, I'm good. Green lap on lap 34 as Ocon leads
- 46:11Verstappen and his teammate Gasly through the
- 46:13new lap. That's Ocon Verstappen and then... You
- 46:16heard. Russell and Norris behind them. The track's
- 46:19still very wet, and Lando seeming to struggle
- 46:21a little bit to get himself back up front as
- 46:23he goes off track while attacking Russell. Unfortunately,
- 46:27sticking behind. Two laps later, we watch Bearman
- 46:30take a turn and doesn't come out of it, getting
- 46:31into a spin and digging his nose into the barrier.
- 46:34Low damage, he pulls himself out and gets back
- 46:36on track. Just in time, three laps later for
- 46:38Science to spin into the barrier, taking a part
- 46:40of his wing, retiring himself, and bringing out
- 46:42the safety car. We get a restart on lap 42. Ocon
- 46:45still leading Max, but not for long as he takes
- 46:47the lead into T1. A little further down, Norris
- 46:49goes off again, losing a handful of positions,
- 46:52including to his teammate. Russell gets past
- 46:54Leclerc a few laps later after Charles finds
- 46:56himself off track slightly. Lap 69, we finally
- 47:00make it to the end of the hectic race for Stappen,
- 47:01leading two Alpines by 19 seconds. A brilliant
- 47:04game for Alpine, truly making their season. Nice.
- 47:09Brazil was nuts last year. So good. It was a
- 47:12race and a half, and it took like the full...
- 47:14Three hours to get through it, I think. The whole
- 47:16time you were reading that, it just felt like...
- 47:18Can I just say, like, my favorite race of all
- 47:23time currently is Nico's first podium, right?
- 47:26I love that race. This race is a close second.
- 47:30Because, like, the absolute, like, masterclass
- 47:34out of Verstappen, I mean, I can't. I don't have
- 47:37words. Yeah, it was a race. That's for sure.
- 47:40I forgot he started that far back. I can't remember.
- 47:43Do you guys remember why? He took... I think
- 47:46he had a grid place penalty, plus he took...
- 47:48No, he just had... He had engine parts. He's
- 47:50replacing engine parts, if I remember correctly.
- 47:53I think he qualified low, lower than he should
- 47:55have been, and then took penalties. He qualified
- 48:01in second, and then got pushed out. He was actually
- 48:03knocked out in Q2. And then he did take a new
- 48:06ICE before the race. And so he got a five -place
- 48:09good penalty on top of that. So he qualified
- 48:1112th. So that was bad qualifying. Yeah, bad qualifying.
- 48:18There's also rain. Oh, because rain and red flags
- 48:20during qualifying. This was quite possibly the
- 48:23best race I could have ever have hoped for as
- 48:26an Alpine fan, and I will never see it again.
- 48:28I understand. I hope I do. It's not going to
- 48:32be this year. It's definitely not. That was exciting.
- 48:37That was exciting. Other than, I think Pierre
- 48:39podiumed... When was that? Two years ago? Three
- 48:42years ago? There was that one random one. I'm
- 48:44trying to remember where that was. And then I
- 48:45think Esteban had podiumed the year beforehand.
- 48:48I think he did also podium. They both just kind
- 48:50of stumbled their way into podiums. I'll take
- 48:54it this week. Was it Monza? They're not going
- 48:55to be in my podium. Yes, it was Monza. Monza,
- 48:57yeah. Where? Who, Pierre? Yeah, he podiumed in
- 49:00Monza in 20... 23. Come on, show me it. Give
- 49:07it to me. Give it to me. Shortly one of these
- 49:12days. So he was still in the AlphaTauri at that
- 49:14time. Yeah. That's what it was. Unless he did
- 49:16he podium again in the. I could have sworn he
- 49:18did. I don't know. I don't know. AlphaTauri.
- 49:21That makes sense. I knew it was a while ago.
- 49:24But yeah. Okay. All right. You're still riding
- 49:26that high. Sprint race. No, I'm definitely not.
- 49:30Not after this season. It's been really crappy.
- 49:32He podiumed at the Dutch Grand Prix in 2023 as
- 49:34well. Yep. Oh, okay. I knew he podiumed in 2023.
- 49:37Okay. So, okay. So, he's got his fair share.
- 49:40So, he should just be in a better car, man. I'll
- 49:42jump ship with him. It's fine. Dude, he would
- 49:44actually be crazy good if he were in a front
- 49:46-running car. Oh, actually, Mercedes. Like, genuinely
- 49:51put him in a Red Bull. That's not going to happen.
- 49:54No, you're right. It won't. And, no. I don't
- 49:57know where he could go. Anyway. All right. Sprint
- 50:00race again. Yeah. Yeah. So there's that. Okay.
- 50:04You already gave us the weather. That's good.
- 50:09Points update. Joe, 47 points. Mike, 53 points.
- 50:17I'm sorry. Me next. Smelty, 52 points. Mike in
- 50:20the lead with 53 points. Look at me go. Look
- 50:24at you go with four races to go. Four races to
- 50:27go. You've got to start taking chances. I am
- 50:29going to. I'm going to have to. George Russell,
- 50:31Charles Leclerc. I took a chance with Lewis and
- 50:34he failed me. I took a chance with Lewis and
- 50:37truly I was almost there. That would have been
- 50:40crazy. That would have actually helped us. But
- 50:43no dice. We're starting with me. Me first? What
- 50:48are you talking about? He needs all the help
- 50:51he can get over here. You got it. In third. is
- 50:57going to be George Russell. What the heck? And
- 50:59I'm calling an audible on this, okay? I'm calling
- 51:02an audible on my podium here. So George Russell
- 51:05in third. In second, we're going to have Max
- 51:09Verstappen. You're crazy. You're crazy. You don't
- 51:13expect it to rain that much, do you? And in first
- 51:16is going to be Oscar Piastri. Wow. That makes
- 51:22my podium so much easier. That's crazy. Smeltsy.
- 51:28Oscar Lando Max. You didn't even think about
- 51:31it. Okay, well, then the decision is incredibly,
- 51:34you guys made my job so easy. Lando's taking
- 51:37the win. No, I could do Max, though. Maybe I
- 51:42should do Max. Max would be a really good idea.
- 51:44Okay, I'm changing my mind. I know I shouldn't
- 51:47be doing this. Max, you did Lando second. No.
- 51:51It's okay. Do Oscar. Oscar Lando. Charles Lando.
- 51:58George Russell. George Russell. I picked George
- 52:04Russell. I am happy. I'm very proud of you. I
- 52:07just got over saying, wow, you guys made this
- 52:09really easy for me. You didn't. Let's go. Not
- 52:12even a little bit easy. I'm glad my audible changed
- 52:15today. Oh, man. Have we taken anybody but Max,
- 52:17Lando, Oscar, Charles, George, and Louis this
- 52:20year? No. Who else would we take? I know. That's
- 52:24all of them. Who else would we take? I just rattled
- 52:26them all off. Kimmy. Kimmy. Kimmy. Not taking
- 52:30Kimmy. Oh, man. He beat Charles. I mean, he beat
- 52:34George. Sorry. He sure did. This is so tough.
- 52:38Beat Charles. I mean, I'm sure he has, actually.
- 52:44At least once, right? Gabby Bortoletto. Dude,
- 52:48it's his home race. I'm so excited. Oh, yes.
- 52:50Points for Gabby in a home race. Max Lando Charles.
- 52:53Max Lando Charles. I got to get someone else
- 52:57other than... Yeah, okay. I see. I see. You don't
- 53:01want to go Oscar because you want to go. Oscar's
- 53:03in a bad form and he did not do well last year
- 53:06here. Okay. For whatever it's worth, I came into
- 53:09here when my podium decided that I was going
- 53:12to pick Max Lando George. But the pattern. He
- 53:17messed me up. I'm actually rooting for you. I'm
- 53:21rooting for you. No offense. Just because I do
- 53:23want to see the pattern. I want to see the meme
- 53:25happen. I picked Oscar to win, too. I'm cool
- 53:28with that. Oh, yeah. High five. Oscar, if Lando
- 53:32gets second, then you win because you have Lando
- 53:34second. Yeah. And it's all good. And then we'll
- 53:36just put Max at third. And then I just get a
- 53:38six pointer. And then you just get a six pointer.
- 53:40That's good. Yeah, that's good. Yeah, and then
- 53:42we can get Charles in there. That'd be cool,
- 53:43right, guys? Right, guys? Right, guys? Guys?
- 53:46I'm so far behind. It's not even happening. Hey,
- 53:49do you guys want to do any bonus points late?
- 53:51You really need Charles. Where are we putting
- 53:53Gabby Bortoletto? We do need bonus points. It's
- 53:55home race. I actually have an idea for bonus
- 53:57points next year. I'm thinking, okay, I'll just
- 54:00pitch this now because you've already been pitching
- 54:02stuff. Live pitch? I love pitching. Hear this.
- 54:05This is for our two listeners. If you want to
- 54:08pitch in, comment as well. What if we have a
- 54:12wild card driver? So we pick a driver from the
- 54:15bottom 10 that finishes this year to be on the
- 54:18podium anywhere next year. And if they eventually
- 54:20do get on the podium, we get like maybe two points
- 54:23just like given to us for free. Even if we don't
- 54:26put him in the podium for that weekend. That's
- 54:27kind of cool. So, like, okay, so, like, Sides
- 54:30is my wildcard driver, right? But we got to come
- 54:31up with something else, because, like, I think
- 54:33a wildcard for the beginning. No, in addition
- 54:36to, right? Oh, okay, cool. I like it, but it's
- 54:40bad. Here's a question, though. Are we taking
- 54:42bottom 10? Teams? No, drivers. Your wild card
- 54:49can only be someone in the bottom 10. So that's
- 54:51kind of whack, though, because Carlos Sainz is
- 54:53such an easy pick. Because you think about it,
- 54:55too. That also means that I could put Fernando
- 54:57Alonso on my podium. Correct. Yeah, that's fine.
- 55:01Oh, actually, no, maybe it's not. Are you kidding
- 55:03me? That's what I'm saying. It's like Fernando
- 55:05Alonso. But maybe we have to workshop a little
- 55:07bit. So maybe it's like the lower they are, the
- 55:10more points you get. Like maybe we divide it
- 55:12in two or something like that. I say we pick
- 55:13the bottom five teams of constructors and one
- 55:16of those drivers. I mean, that actually doesn't
- 55:17work. We can still pick Fernando Alonso. What
- 55:19if we just do bottom five drivers, right? Bottom
- 55:22five drivers? Well, then that sucks because two
- 55:26-fifths of it is Alpine. So really, you only
- 55:35get to pick between three drivers. You only get
- 55:37to pick between three. That's really messed up,
- 55:40son. It's not that funny, Joe. That's kind of
- 55:44funny. Get your stuff together. It's kind of
- 55:45funny. I'm not on the pod, but that's more like
- 55:49a full season, right? The wild card is like a
- 55:51full season bonus. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think
- 55:53we need like an every week bonus. No, no, it
- 55:55isn't every week. Oh, that's active every week.
- 55:57You have a wild card driver. If they ever...
- 56:00get on the podium that's an automatic like point
- 56:02right on right on right on right on but i think
- 56:05that's not i think we workshop it we need another
- 56:07exactly point though i'm down yeah like that
- 56:10one's a bigger point i like you get more points
- 56:12for getting that one right yeah then we have
- 56:13like an every week so but but think about it
- 56:15you could get like you could get you could get
- 56:17your podium no you couldn't that wouldn't make
- 56:18sense i was about to say you could get your podium
- 56:20spot on and then you could also get no you couldn't
- 56:21do that but you could get like seven points maybe
- 56:24if we make the point big enough you know i like
- 56:26the idea I like the idea of, like, pick a driver,
- 56:30and if that driver gets on the podium at any
- 56:32point during the year, you get a small haul of
- 56:35points, just, like, three or four points, whatever,
- 56:36you know? And it'll be a one -time, just, like...
- 56:39Wait, we're getting detailed here. Just, we do
- 56:41that, right? And then we can do other things
- 56:42biweekly, like, pick a... this weekend wildcard.
- 56:46Who's your this weekend wildcard? Who do you
- 56:48think is going to finish in the points? In the
- 56:50points? I do like that idea. We did something
- 56:53like that last year. That would be like a single
- 56:55point. We did something like that last year,
- 56:59didn't we? We had a podium. It didn't matter
- 57:03what position. We just pick a podium. And then
- 57:06we also had... We changed it every week. We changed
- 57:10it every week. I do like that idea. I know me.
- 57:15I personally love watching the back teams. I
- 57:18love watching the midfield fight. The front pack.
- 57:20It gives us and the listeners something to watch.
- 57:23It kills me picking. I think I've picked four
- 57:27different drivers this year to go on my podium
- 57:29every single race. Between four drivers. That
- 57:33kind of kills me inside. We'll come up with something.
- 57:35I like it. We'll come up with something. Like
- 57:37you said, we'll workshop it. We'll workshop it.
- 57:39You know, in the post -off -season interviews,
- 57:41the exit interviews, we'll see who comes back
- 57:43next year. But we'll workshop it. We'll workshop
- 57:47it. Yeah, well, Mike, thanks for being here,
- 57:50man. Yeah, I'm glad to have been here. This was
- 57:52fun. Me too. Yeah, things started getting out
- 57:55of hand at the end, but it's all right. Joe,
- 57:58that was a killer up to speed. Oh, thank you.
- 58:01But it was a killer race. It was a killer race.
- 58:03It was spoon -fed to you. No, I'm just kidding.
- 58:05That was awesome. I was like, do I want to do
- 58:06an up -to -speed? And I started doing it, and
- 58:08I was like, oh, I need to do an up -to -speed.
- 58:09Yeah. Oh, yeah. It was a crazy race. No, it was
- 58:11perfect. I'm glad you did. Excellent job, Kev.
- 58:15Of course, great job getting everything done
- 58:17for us as always. Don't forget to like, comment,
- 58:19subscribe wherever you listen to The Banter,
- 58:21whether that's YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts,
- 58:23or iHeartRadio. And let's see. I believe we are
- 58:28actually here next week again. We're not. Okay,
