- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Rider Podcast, where we bring you tips and inspiration each day to help you build habits for writing success.

- 0:22SPEAKER_00: How do you relate to successful writers with best-selling books, large platforms, or lots of influence?
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: We normally respond in one of two ways.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Either we dismiss their success as dumb luck, or we ignore them because they make us feel insecure.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: If you've ever responded this way, don't feel bad.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Every creative person on the planet has felt this way at times.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: A major key to success, I believe, is putting yourself in the orbit of other successful writers, as opposed to running away from them or just feeling bad about yourself because you're not quite as successful.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: And when you're putting yourself in the orbit of other successful people, this can include people who you'll never meet, as well as people that you can develop a personal relationship with.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Let's take two examples.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Now, chances are pretty slim that you'll ever be able to convince Stephen King to personally mentor you.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: However, you can read plenty of interviews and articles about his writing habits and his approach to storytelling and his pathway to success.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: You can learn from all those and they can be extremely valuable.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: But I believe even more powerful is the writer who you can get to know personally.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: So if there's somebody in your orbit who you know personally who has more success than you, don't run away from them.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Don't necessarily feel intimidated by that.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Don't feel insecure because of their success.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Instead, invite them out to lunch, have them as a guest on your podcast, subscribe to their newsletter and develop a dialogue with them, or join their course or their mastermind.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: You'll be amazed at the openness that other successful writers have about sharing their strategies and what they've learned along the way.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: This is the exact reason that I continue to pay to be a part of masterminds, courses, retreats, and conferences.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: I invest in myself because my future success depends on it.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: A lot of writers aren't willing to invest time or money into themselves, but when you do, you immediately set yourself apart and get yourself on the fast track to more success.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: So here's today's challenge.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: Identify a writer who's more successful than you, but with whom you could have some personal contact.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Reach out to them and ask a couple of questions about their success.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Better yet, promote one of their books on social media to show that you support them.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: Hey, before I wrap up this episode, I want to let you know about an upcoming event that's very close to my heart that I know can really help you.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: And by the way, it'll do exactly what we've talked about in this episode, which is putting yourself around other successful writers.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: And that is, of course, the upcoming Daily Writer Retreat.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: It's great to listen to podcasts, read emails and books, and get on Zoom calls and all that stuff, but there's nothing quite like being in a small group of other writers who are making their writing dreams come true by publishing books and building their businesses.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: And that's what the Daily Writer Retreat is all about.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: On May 2nd through the 4th, we'll gather in beautiful St.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Charles, Missouri, just outside of St.

- 3:20SPEAKER_00: We'll start with a dinner on Tuesday night, followed by two amazing days of connection, planning, teaching, and masterminding together.
