- 1:11good stuff, today's episode is brought to you by my company,
- 1:14Add Back Benefits Agency. Listen, if you run a business,
- 1:17you are likely stuck in the cycle of rising insurance
- 1:20premiums. You're paying more, but your
- 1:22team is getting less, and many people can't afford coverage at
- 1:26all. We do things differently.
- 1:28We offer a solution that provides your employees with
- 1:31unlimited access to doctors, therapists, and prescriptions
- 1:34that is always free for them to use.
- 1:37But here's where you really need to pay attention.
- 1:39Unlike every other employee benefit out there, our program
- 1:43puts more money into your company's bank account.
- 1:46As an example, we recently helped the client increase net
- 1:49profits by $900 per employee per year.
- 1:54Results vary, but the consultation is free.
- 1:56Imagine being the advisor that becomes a hero by introducing
- 1:59this to your clients. See if they qualify today at AD
- 2:02back benefits.com. All right, back to our guest
- 2:05today, business growth coach and advisor of Growth amplifiers,
- 2:09Kenny Harper. Thanks for making the time to
- 2:11Share your story today. Thank you, Anthony, for the
- 2:14invitation and the opportunity to share.
- 2:17There are plenty of different things out there.
- 2:20They can get your attention. And my goal here is for the
- 2:23people who have tuned in to give you maybe a paradigm shift, a
- 2:27spark of inspiration so that you can leave here, taking a new
- 2:30action and move something forward that's important in your
- 2:34life. So glad for the opportunity.
- 2:37Glad to have this conversation. You are an amplifier, Anthony,
- 2:39and I appreciate you. I love all that.
- 2:42All right, let's set the stage a little bit before we kind of get
- 2:44into the work that you do today, because you started out years
- 2:47and years ago as a graphic designer.
- 2:49What first drew you into that line of work?
- 2:52Music. So music.
- 2:55I was 14 years old, my cousin took me into Metallica concert
- 3:00and I was just really inspired by the energy of this band, how
- 3:05they connected with their audience and I just was bit by
- 3:10the music bug. So as in my teenage early 20s, I
- 3:13was playing in bands, did my first entrepreneurial journey
- 3:16recording bands and we needed to market ourselves.
- 3:21So I started to learn how to make graphics, build websites,
- 3:26record our music and my first passion in music, why I really
- 3:34loved it. I didn't know the business side,
- 3:36so after several years of playing shows and barely just
- 3:40paying for the shows to play the shows, I had to give up on that
- 3:45passion. And I searched around and found
- 3:49you can build a career doing graphic design and marketing for
- 3:54businesses. So using that artistic skill set
- 3:58to market and help others grow their vision and and build them
- 4:03for it and so. And how did you discover that?
- 4:05Did you? Was there a mentor, a course?
- 4:08A book? At the time, it was actually one
- 4:12of my my friends came over and he was just brought over a
- 4:16project he was working on for a multimedia class he was taking
- 4:19in college or both in college at the time.
- 4:21And I'm looking at him put this video together or watching it on
- 4:27VCR tape, getting a little dated here.
- 4:30And I'm, I'm like, what is that? He's like, oh, that's a project
- 4:33for school. I'm like, what what that's a
- 4:37video. What it, what that looks cool
- 4:39and fun. It's like, yeah, I'm taking
- 4:41multimedia, majoring in multimedia.
- 4:44Like, what the heck is this multimedia Like, oh, it's, it's
- 4:48this thing. So that introduced me to that
- 4:52industry. And you know, I've, I've heard
- 4:55throughout my life, and you've probably heard this too.
- 4:57Follow your passion and the money will follow.
- 5:01And I believe that that is a partial truth because there are
- 5:05a lot of people following their passion and the money ain't
- 5:07following. And that was me with my first
- 5:10passion, and that was about to be me with my second jump into
- 5:16entrepreneurialship when around 2011, I left the advertising
- 5:23agency I was working for and started my own web design firm.
- 5:27And I knew how to build websites.
- 5:29I'd won awards building websites.
- 5:31I'd built a career in advertising agencies, but I'd
- 5:35never learned the business side of running a business.
- 5:40So you didn't know how to go out and find clients and price jobs
- 5:43and all that? Yes, I didn't know the the back
- 5:47end administrative, the team building, all the different
- 5:51pieces and parts. I just knew the trade.
- 5:54I knew and that's how a lot of people get into starting their
- 5:56business. They they have the passion and
- 6:01then they say, I'm going to go for it.
- 6:03And then sometimes they sometimes they might figure it
- 6:06out and sometimes they may say, oh man, I don't know if I'm
- 6:09going to make it. That was about me.
- 6:12I was. And so how did you figure it
- 6:14out, Kenny? Thank you, Anthony, Thank you
- 6:18for asking. After watching my bank account
- 6:22dwindle down to scary levels after having gotten married and
- 6:28had a kid on the way and and bought the house, realizing
- 6:32maybe I had made a mistake here. I listened to my brother-in-law
- 6:38who was talking about business coaching and then the company
- 6:44that he worked for had a business coach and it was
- 6:47helping them learn about running a business, running and growing
- 6:51a business. So I said, well, I'm just a
- 6:54solopreneur, but if I don't learn something, I'm going to
- 6:58continue doing what I know, not doing what I don't know, and
- 7:02then I'm going to probably run out of gas.
- 7:04So I hired a business coach. I went through different
- 7:08workshops, seminars, trainings, read a plenty of books.
- 7:13And I did that to help learn the things that I didn't know, I
- 7:17didn't know, building new habits to take new actions to achieve
- 7:20new results. Who is your coach?
- 7:24So there was a gentleman, Steve Gornsen.
- 7:28I met him through networking here in Jacksonville, and he
- 7:35helped me assess my business, gave me recommendations to
- 7:41different books that I could read, ran strategic planning
- 7:46workshops, things of that nature.
- 7:47And he really inspired me to pursue that end of the business
- 7:55because I had learned to be initially more of a technician
- 7:59and using that creativity to build the websites, to create
- 8:04graphics, to publish marketing campaigns.
- 8:09But what I really liked about what he was doing is he wasn't
- 8:13just doing the the work themselves.
- 8:17He was empowering others to learn how to lead themselves.
- 8:22And it saved me and my business from just sinking in that first
- 8:29year and crashing to here I am almost 15 years later.
- 8:34And I wouldn't have been there if I didn't learn the things
- 8:38that I didn't know, I didn't know.
- 8:39How many? Employees.
- 8:40Really. Have that time.
- 8:44What was that? How many employees did you have
- 8:46at that time? I just had about three people
- 8:50that I worked with on a regular basis, so.
- 8:53It's and so the big sort of lever that you pulled at that
- 8:56time was empowering these people to sort of go off and do their
- 9:01jobs without being micromanaged or just sort of empowering them
- 9:07to go make big decisions on their own.
- 9:10There was a lot of change that happened, so empowering the
- 9:14team, helping them see a vision, helping them to follow standard
- 9:20processes, but also just the personal mindset shift, mindset
- 9:26shifts that had to make myself. And I know a lot of people who
- 9:30are starting the business, especially in the service
- 9:32professionals, have to make this change.
- 9:35If you're making a salary or an hourly rate and then you start
- 9:40your own business, you have to charge completely different.
- 9:43And sometimes you can get into this mindset like how can I
- 9:47charge this much? And but if you don't charge
- 9:52enough, then you're not funding your business.
- 9:55You don't have enough funds to make it work.
- 10:00You run out of money and then you're not going to be a help
- 10:02anyone. And I see that a lot with some
- 10:06of the people that I work with, accountants, Cpas, they just may
- 10:11not be working, they may not be charging enough.
- 10:14And so they they run into those those challenges.
- 10:19So how long after you got connected with this coach and
- 10:23started to read these books and started to implement these ideas
- 10:27before you started to notice real improvements in the
- 10:29business? I would say within that first
- 10:36several months at least, I, I stopped feeling like I was
- 10:41flying blind and started to have a plan and started to feel like
- 10:45I'm, I'm at least improving in the areas that I didn't know
- 10:49it's to put attention to before. And so it was a like I'm, I'm
- 10:55crashing. So to now I'm now I'm stabilized
- 10:58and I'm slowly starting to move. Then maybe over the next 3-4
- 11:06years is been an evolution to I went from being more the
- 11:11technician myself to running a marketing agency with some
- 11:14partners and then around 2018-2019 learned started to get
- 11:22into coaching and advising myself.
- 11:24So it's been an evolution, and it's been a fun one.
- 11:31And so let's go present day, you've got multiple businesses.
- 11:37What was tell us about what you do at Growth Amplifier
- 11:41specifically? So now I've kind of the student
- 11:46has become the master. And by by no means am I trying
- 11:50to say I'm I'm the master of everything.
- 11:53And if you're looking to be a coach or an advisor or
- 11:57consultant, you don't need to be the master of everything.
- 12:01You need to be a few steps ahead of the people that you're
- 12:04leading. And you need to understand the
- 12:08art of coaching, how to ask people questions, how to dig
- 12:14deeper, how to hear what people are saying, how to hear what
- 12:19people aren't saying, and then help them discover things for
- 12:25themselves so that they really can cultivate transformation.
- 12:29I used to misunderstand what coaching was and the value of
- 12:32it. I thought, what, why is someone
- 12:35just going to tell me the things I know I need to do?
- 12:38That's not a that's not really a powerful coach.
- 12:42So the powerful coach really helps to understand what is your
- 12:47vision? What is the thing that you
- 12:48really want to achieve? Why is that important to you all
- 12:51right now? Where are you at now and what
- 12:55are the actions that we need to take in order to get you to
- 12:58where you want to go? What are the blocks that are in
- 13:00in your way? What are the opportunities that
- 13:03you could seize upon that would help you get there further be
- 13:07more effective? What are the habits and mindsets
- 13:10that we need to change and alter in order to get there?
- 13:13So to answer your question, so that's that's what I'm doing now
- 13:17is connecting with business advisors, consultants and
- 13:21coaches. A lot of them just like me,
- 13:24heard this is something I could do.
- 13:28They jump in and then they don't know what they don't know.
- 13:31And sometimes they can get tunnel vision.
- 13:34They have blind spots. They can get caught up in their
- 13:37own way and so I help to understand where they're at,
- 13:44where they want to go, and then create a path and a plan to get
- 13:48there. Become a partner and extension
- 13:51of their team and then give them tools, guidance and
- 13:55accountability to help them be the best version of themselves.
- 14:00So I hear a lot of talk about like systems, like sort of
- 14:04taking a holistic view, where are the blocks working on
- 14:08mindset? But as I, as I hear the name
- 14:10growth amplifiers, I think, oh, he probably spends most of his
- 14:14time on like sales and marketing techniques that can really help
- 14:19to unlock more revenue. Am I reading that correctly or
- 14:23incorrectly? You are reading it correctly.
- 14:26A lot of times people do want to grow their business and when
- 14:30initially kind of launching growth amplifiers, it was a bit
- 14:34more focused on just the marketing and sales.
- 14:38You, you hit the nail on the head.
- 14:40People want to grow their business.
- 14:42They want to have a certain lifestyle.
- 14:44They want to be able to afford, you know, a living.
- 14:47They want to be able to save for their family for their
- 14:50retirement. They want to be able to enjoy
- 14:51their life while they have it. They want to be able to do these
- 14:54things. And a lot of times they need to
- 14:56either grow either in size or scale or just be more
- 15:01profitable. And sometimes they're so caught
- 15:04up working in the business, they're not working on it.
- 15:08Now some businesses are really dialed in and they are ready to
- 15:13grow and scale. And so we look at what are you
- 15:15doing for marketing? How are you getting your message
- 15:18in front of your market? How are you seamlessly and
- 15:20subtly guiding prospects to become customers that pay, stay
- 15:25and refer? And people sometimes aren't the
- 15:31greatest at enrolling people to become clients or customers.
- 15:35So making sure that they have a process and a plan to do that
- 15:38that's documented, repeatable, and optimized is important.
- 15:45So who are some of the ideal fits for you in terms of
- 15:50clients? I'm hearing you say accountants,
- 15:53CPA, other business coaches. Yes.
- 15:58So the frameworks that we developed and mentioned, the
- 16:02Amplified Advisor shares this framework.
- 16:05I am giving that book away to anyone who would wants it.
- 16:08It has a framework that helps people get clarity, define some
- 16:12goals and create a plan to achieve them.
- 16:17But the people that we've been niching with have been the
- 16:21people in the accounting space. And that really happened around
- 16:23the time of the pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, we are
- 16:28working more with health and Wellness professionals,
- 16:32chiropractors, Med spa owners, vein clinic providers.
- 16:37They had a practice. They're looking to get more
- 16:39customers. We have a framework to help them
- 16:42evaluate what they're doing, see what they're blind spots are and
- 16:47optimize their strategies to get new results, to get better
- 16:52results. Pandemic it and what happened?
- 16:57All these places closed. Yeah, all these places closed.
- 17:00A lot of the health and Wellness businesses were having to
- 17:03temporary shut down. They were having to turn off
- 17:08their sales and marketing and was looking at the business
- 17:13saying, well, this is not good. And I think a lot of people are
- 17:17freaking out. We don't know what's going to
- 17:19happen with the world. We don't know what's going to
- 17:21happen with with business in general.
- 17:24So how did? The accounting and CPA sector
- 17:27open up for you. So I had already had ACPA who
- 17:33was a client at the time because the framework really is
- 17:37universal for different businesses, service based
- 17:40businesses are are really helpful as well.
- 17:44And his clients were freaking out, but his business was
- 17:47surging because he was doing all these PPP loans and helping
- 17:51people with navigating what they could do for COVID loans.
- 17:57But he said his, his clients are freaking out.
- 17:59They're they're losing money, they're losing clients.
- 18:01I said, well, I'm glad to give a free webinar that would help
- 18:07your clients get some ideas and things that they could do to
- 18:10increase customers and increase sales.
- 18:14Said I'll do that for free just as a way to provide value to you
- 18:16and your clients. He said, great, that'll be,
- 18:19that'll be awesome. That'd be really helpful.
- 18:22So I did the webinar and helped him help his clients and helped
- 18:26his clients. And then some of the people that
- 18:29were on the webinar reached out and said I could use some
- 18:31additional help. Then that's when he had a
- 18:35paradigm shift. All these people in the
- 18:37accounting space that probably could benefit from having
- 18:43similar support. They know what how to help
- 18:45people decrease their expenses. They know how to people help
- 18:49people create financial foundations, how to become more
- 18:56profitable, but when it comes to marketing and sales, they
- 18:58typically aren't well versed in that area.
- 19:03So after thinking about it, it became apparent that Cpas who
- 19:10are trying to do more advisory or who are trying to become
- 19:13coaches themselves, accountants, tax professionals, people who do
- 19:18profit coaching, a lot of these people are serving a similar
- 19:24mission. But I've been the technician and
- 19:27haven't learned how to become an advisor or a coach.
- 19:30They don't know what they don't know.
- 19:32They're adverse to marketing sales.
- 19:35And I've taken the scenic route through that journey.
- 19:39So that gave me the idea that I could probably help them avoid
- 19:43the scenic route. So what does it look like for
- 19:46CPA or an accountant to work with you?
- 19:51So the first thing that I'd recommend them doing for their
- 19:55prospects and the thing that I typically do as well is we just
- 19:59assess what they're doing now and where they want to go.
- 20:04Ioffer a complimentary amplified business breakthrough to
- 20:08identify blind spots and untapped opportunities in their
- 20:11business. And the reason I would do that
- 20:14for free is because. Number one, that helps me share
- 20:18the value that I provide. A lot of times people here
- 20:21coaching or they hear marketing or sales and they think, oh, I
- 20:24got it covered. I've got somebody who's, you
- 20:27know, doing marketing for me. I have an agency that's doing it
- 20:31or I've had a coach before, but that's a lot of assumptions
- 20:36based on labels, right? And and people don't know what
- 20:39they don't know. So if in order for them to see
- 20:43the things differently, they've got to experience it for
- 20:45themselves. So by having that session and
- 20:48experiencing it for themselves, few different things could
- 20:51happen. Number one, they can say, oh
- 20:56wow, there's a lot of things I hadn't considered before
- 20:58actually could use help here. And then if they need help, then
- 21:02we determine what help do you need in order to get from where
- 21:05you're at to where you want to go?
- 21:07How can I help empower you and or your team in order to achieve
- 21:10those goals? And so do you coach one-on-one?
- 21:14Are there group sessions? Is it a mastermind?
- 21:17Help me with the structure. So I do have a bit of both and a
- 21:22lot of the people that I'm working with and advising, I'm
- 21:26helping them introduce those concepts too.
- 21:30Because you just mentioned a couple things that are very
- 21:32powerful group coaching masterminds, right?
- 21:38And a lot of these professionals who are trying to advise their
- 21:42clients could do the same thing. A1 to many solution create at
- 21:45once, sell at many, but many are so used to just providing the
- 21:51service, they're not thinking they can offer a one to many
- 21:57solution. I believe most firms could
- 22:00probably multiply the revenue if they took new actions to achieve
- 22:05new results. So when I'm working with
- 22:08someone, it's it's either 1:00 to 1:00 if they're looking for
- 22:12that one to one attention and some prefer that or we do have
- 22:15group programs as well, or if they just want to be part of a
- 22:18group, follow a framework to make progress over time, that's
- 22:22an option. So for ACPA, an accountant
- 22:25that's listening and they're scratching their heads trying to
- 22:28think, what would a one to many coaching solution look like in
- 22:33my business? What would you say?
- 22:36That is a great question and the challenge that the mindset that
- 22:42I've heard accounts are really brilliant.
- 22:44They know numbers really well and they train their brain to
- 22:48make sure that everything lines up really perfectly.
- 22:51But and and they think a lot of times my clients, they're all
- 22:55different. They're all different
- 22:56backgrounds. Everything needs to be
- 22:57customized. I can't see how to do anything
- 23:00group because everyone's different.
- 23:02But that's why we say you can follow a framework, you can
- 23:06follow a process, right? Because a lot of the process
- 23:12that you'll walk people through will be similar.
- 23:16Helping people achieve financial foundations, Do they know their
- 23:20numbers? Are they looking at them?
- 23:22Do they have goals to find? A lot of businesses have been in
- 23:26business sometimes for decades, they haven't been doing any of
- 23:29this stuff. And so just helping them define
- 23:32some goals and better understand their metrics and then create
- 23:38plans to improve them that could be transformational for their
- 23:43customers and clients. And you can guide people through
- 23:47those exercises and through those frameworks in a group
- 23:50fashion. Can you hold up your book again
- 23:53if you would please? It is called the Amplified
- 23:57Advisor and we're going to mention this again at the end of
- 24:00the show, but he's giving it away for free.
- 24:03If you go to growthamplifiers.com/book Growth
- 24:06amplifiers.com/book, can you can you walk us through the five
- 24:12pillars of the Amplified Growth system?
- 24:16I, I could, but I'm, I'm going to see if I switch it just a
- 24:21little bit further because I'll, I'll walk you through the cycle,
- 24:25which I think would be even more beneficial.
- 24:29So this, this and the, the pillars are just general pillars
- 24:34in, in business for your general business pillars that you'd want
- 24:39to assess and, and know that you're doing good in.
- 24:40And the book covers those pillars.
- 24:43But the cycle, it's 7 stages. And I'm going to share these
- 24:46stages. I'll go real quick.
- 24:48And you're going to be like, yeah, that's kind of basic.
- 24:50Here's the thing. Knowing something right, you
- 24:55can. My sons, I have two sons who at
- 24:58this time are 11 and 14. They go to jiu jitsu.
- 25:03They learn a new jiu jitsu lesson almost every time.
- 25:07Now they can. Every time they go to jiu jitsu,
- 25:11they can look. They could see the lesson.
- 25:13I can look and I can see the lesson.
- 25:14But does seeing it mean you're going to be a master jiu jitsu?
- 25:19No, sometimes we hear something, we know something.
- 25:23And so then we can think, oh, I already know this information.
- 25:27So if you're going to listen to this just now want you to know,
- 25:29you may already know this, This may already make sense, but
- 25:32mastering these steps can transform all the efforts that
- 25:36you're doing. If you help your team master
- 25:39these steps and can transform everything that you're doing.
- 25:41So just a word to not. Yeah, don't dismiss it just
- 25:49because it sounds simple. You pull the word from my mind,
- 25:54Anthony. I was.
- 25:54I was searching for that word. Dismissed.
- 25:56Like don't, don't. Duh, duh.
- 25:59That's not what I'm. Trying to lay it out for us, OK.
- 26:01So going through this quick, first thing fuel, you got to
- 26:04make sure that you're fueled. If your mindset is not in it to
- 26:07win it, if you feel discouraged, if you don't have the belief in
- 26:10yourself or you don't remember why you're in the fight, then
- 26:13you need to fuel yourself. Get yourself primed and ready to
- 26:17go in it to win it #2 focus. This is where the assessments
- 26:22come in. The book can walk you through
- 26:25the assessment, and you can't do everything at once.
- 26:28If you're trying to do everything at once, you're going
- 26:30to stretch yourself thin. You're going to stretch your
- 26:31team thin. Where in the business needs the
- 26:34most focus? Number three, once you define
- 26:38where you need to focus, for instance, if it's marketing and
- 26:40sales, there's a lot of different things you could do.
- 26:43Sometimes people think the first idea that pops in their mind,
- 26:46they're just going to start doing it.
- 26:48It may not be the best idea. Sometimes there's so many
- 26:51different ideas, they're overwhelmed and they do nothing.
- 26:54So prioritizing the list #3 prioritizing based on impact,
- 26:59confidence and ease. So you're taking the action that
- 27:01would have the most impact, be the easiest to pull off.
- 27:04You feel most confidence in four.
- 27:08Simple as having a plan, know who is doing what and when.
- 27:13Having a document, a plan, sharing it with your team so
- 27:15that everyone's on the same page, you're all paddling in the
- 27:18same direction #5 execute. It's great to have a plan, but
- 27:24you want to make sure that you're actually executing the
- 27:26plan and following the disciplines of execution to
- 27:29achieve the result. 6 measure. Making sure that you're
- 27:34measuring the actions that you can take that will influence the
- 27:38result and the results that you're aiming to achieve.
- 27:43Measuring out a scorecard, checking it weekly, and then
- 27:46finally the fifth, sorry, 5th, this.
- 27:50I saw my hand and I said 5, there's another hand here and
- 27:53has 2. So that 5 + 2 seven.
- 27:56The 7th step is review because we don't learn from execution,
- 28:04we learn from reflecting on execution.
- 28:07It's a simple cycle. Each has an exercise.
- 28:10And if you walk through the cycle and really develop it and
- 28:13have it commit to it with mastery, you can move further
- 28:17faster. So Kenny, with all the
- 28:20businesses that you have started and run yourself and that you
- 28:24now consult with, what is one of the most common mistakes that
- 28:29you see people make? I kind of mentioned it in a
- 28:33moment ago, but we're going to go back to it because it is a
- 28:36common mistake. It's the stage #2 of focus.
- 28:41Me and entrepreneurs, sometimes we just, we have the drive, we
- 28:44want to achieve more and sometimes we'll take on more or
- 28:47try to push further. There's the book 10X, which I
- 28:51kind of have a disagreement with.
- 28:53The thing is to to shoot 10X higher and try to do 10 times
- 29:01the amount of stuff. Or from my experience in a lot
- 29:04of people that I work with, that ends up just stretching people
- 29:06way too thin. They're overwhelmed and then
- 29:09they're doing 10 things really poorly, incomplete versus doing
- 29:14one thing really well. So the book The One Thing by
- 29:18Gary Keller is the book that I subscribe to and I really
- 29:21appreciate, which talks about doing the one thing that would
- 29:24make everything else easier or unnecessary.
- 29:29It makes me think of the Pareto principle, and you're getting
- 29:32even more dialed in. Look for that one thing.
- 29:36Pareto principle is a little bit different.
- 29:37You know, look for the 20% of the effort that's going to
- 29:40produce 80% of the results, but similar kind of thinking.
- 29:43You know, what is that one thing I can focus on really dial and
- 29:47do it exceptionally well. That's going to make the biggest
- 29:49difference for me and my business.
- 29:51Yes, the Pareto principle. Sometimes they'll even say take
- 29:55the 20% out of all the actions that you're taking on a regular
- 29:58basis. 20% of the actions that you take can be 80% of the
- 30:01results. And then they say double it down
- 30:03even further. Find the 20% out of the 20%.
- 30:06And then you're probably getting closer to the one thing.
- 30:09There's probably something that you're doing on a regular basis
- 30:11that has the most impact. If you did more of that and
- 30:13prioritize that as your one thing, then you probably get
- 30:17further faster as it's written. We're talking about books here
- 30:22as written in Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.
- 30:25But Steven Covey, sometimes the urgent things, the day-to-day
- 30:30things right, that pull our time, the urgent things that are
- 30:33popping up in our calendar calling for our attention,
- 30:37prevent us from doing the important things, the things
- 30:40that are less urgent, they're not calling for us.
- 30:43We can kick kick them down the road, but there are the
- 30:46important things that would help us really make the progress.
- 30:49And so switching that focus from I'm just always reacting to I'm
- 30:54being proactive is the habit. You know, you talk a lot about
- 31:02how entrepreneurs really struggle with burnout and you
- 31:07know, you emphasize clarity, effective systems that they can
- 31:11grow without having to sacrifice their mental and emotional
- 31:14well-being. From personal experience, I can
- 31:17say that that transition can be really hard, right?
- 31:20Because you're already stretched.
- 31:22Then you're wearing all these different hats trying to, you
- 31:25know, juggle all these different balls, to mix my metaphors, and
- 31:29now you have to go and hire somebody and train them when
- 31:34you're already stretched for time.
- 31:35What What would you say to somebody who's in that position?
- 31:41So sometimes it's, it's good just to take a, a step back and
- 31:46reflect and, and really get clear on what's important to you
- 31:51and what do you really want. I continue to connect with
- 31:54people and as I have conversations and sometimes
- 31:57you'll reach out to someone from the outside of their business,
- 32:02they look like they're just rocking it.
- 32:03They look like they're crushing it.
- 32:05They're, they're doing all these wonderful things and their
- 32:09business looks hella successful. But if you look under the hood,
- 32:13if you talk to them how they're enjoying that ride, a lot of
- 32:16times they're not and you would never know it.
- 32:20And they're dealing with challenges with their with their
- 32:25mindset, with their business, sometimes with their finances or
- 32:28their their relationships. And they've gotten so focused,
- 32:33just checking the box, doing the next thing that they forgot what
- 32:38they're really trying to accomplish in the 1st place.
- 32:41What do they really want out of being a business owner?
- 32:45What is their bigger? Why?
- 32:46What is what's really important to them?
- 32:49They want to to build it and grow a business to a certain
- 32:53size. Or do they want to enjoy their
- 32:55life right here, right now? Maybe it's a combination.
- 33:00So first step would be just to take that step back.
- 33:05If you're frustrated with how things are at and where you're
- 33:07at, are you on the right track or did you get lost somewhere in
- 33:11in the mix? And really getting clear clarity
- 33:13of what that vision is and what's needed to work.
- 33:17There's a lot of times we start off with a vision in mind, but
- 33:21it changes and we don't take time to readjust it.
- 33:27And so I think that's really important before trying to, you
- 33:31know, act upon it. That makes a lot of sense.
- 33:37You know, you start a business, you have a goal in mind, you
- 33:40have a purpose in line. And then sometimes you get so in
- 33:45the weeds, right? Can't see the forest through the
- 33:47trees kind of a thing. And if you take a moment to step
- 33:50back, take a deep breath, you realize I am off track.
- 33:53This is gone in a direction where I hadn't originally
- 33:57intended. And so maybe I want to get it
- 34:00back on track. Go ahead, Kenny.
- 34:02Just for example, sometimes people find that they have
- 34:08they're taking on more responsibility, have less time
- 34:12and are making less money than they were before they started
- 34:14the business. And while that might be a small
- 34:18little transition that you you might need to make if you're
- 34:22getting a business off the ground, if you're continually
- 34:27heading in that direction, then you might need to take that step
- 34:30back and reassess and say, do I really need to be doing this the
- 34:34way that I initially thought? Or could I readjust my vision
- 34:38and adjust it to make sure that it's fitting my ideal lifestyle,
- 34:42that I'm working with the right people, I'm empowering my team
- 34:46to live the lives that they want, etcetera?
- 34:49And I wonder if there's a lesson to be learned from your early
- 34:53business where you talked about, you know, your bank account is
- 34:56dwindling. You've got probably 3 employees
- 34:58at the time when you hired this coach.
- 35:00And, you know, you were encouraged to kind of empower
- 35:05them to step into their beauty and their expertise and kind of
- 35:10let them run with it. And I wonder if that's kind of
- 35:12the answer to the question that I just asked about, you know,
- 35:15you're a struggling business owner and you're feeling
- 35:18overwhelmed. You know that you need some
- 35:20help, But how am I going to find time to train somebody and teach
- 35:24them the way that I do things when I already can't find enough
- 35:28minutes in the day? Oh yes, that question that I
- 35:31somehow danced around. So simplifying could be a big a
- 35:38big thing, a firm, any sort of firm, if they're trying to
- 35:44provide more value, you can say I want to do more things, I need
- 35:47to have more offers. Anytime you add a new services,
- 35:50new offers, you could be complicating the things that you
- 35:53need to manage, the people you need to train, etcetera.
- 35:57There are hot dog stands that make a poo ton of money in New
- 36:02York just selling hot dogs doing one thing.
- 36:05I'm not saying you should go out and start a hot dog stand, but
- 36:08I'm saying you could. You might be able to simplify
- 36:10things and then capture what is the minimum viable process,
- 36:17minimum viable product that you can capture, whether recording
- 36:21videos, creating a simple SOP and then create it once and then
- 36:26train people to follow that process.
- 36:29But the sometimes adding more can actually work against the
- 36:35business and its goals, depending on the situation.
- 36:39Tell us about your podcast, Growth Amplifiers podcast.
- 36:43How long has this been going? What kind of guests do you have
- 36:47on there? What's the purpose?
- 36:49Yes. So I'm a big fan of Progress
- 36:53Beats Perfection. When initially we launched
- 36:56growth amplifiers, I think it was around the time of the
- 36:58pandemic we had initially started.
- 37:04I have a business partner and we started our marketing collective
- 37:09partnership round 2014 or something is called Rock My
- 37:15Image. And again, you could see the
- 37:20connection to the music in my background with growth
- 37:23amplifiers, Rock My Image. And when we initially created
- 37:28Rock My Image, we were working with professionals who wanted to
- 37:32elevate their image, experts out there who were knew their stuff,
- 37:37but wanted to be seen, be seen, be noticed, have attention.
- 37:44Through time, as we've started transitioning into coaching and
- 37:47helping people grow their business and scale their
- 37:49business, the name no longer was a fit.
- 37:53So we kind of started phasing out rock manage and launch
- 37:59growth amplifiers in the podcast was the first step.
- 38:03At the time, before the pandemic, we were inviting
- 38:07doctors and people who owned health and Wellness
- 38:10professionals, and it was a great way for us to get past
- 38:13their administrative filter and talk to people and build
- 38:19relationships with them. And we would ask them questions
- 38:23about their business and what they're looking to do and kind
- 38:26of just have those conversations.
- 38:28The podcast has evolved a bit over time as we've shifted who
- 38:32we talked to and, and the value that we provide.
- 38:35And so now we're seeking other thought leaders out there that
- 38:39are amplifiers in this world and they've learned on their journey
- 38:44lessons to avoid or tips to implement that helps people
- 38:50systemize and scale their business without the overwhelm.
- 38:56Life is short, it goes by quickly.
- 38:58I was just in my 20s playing in bands and now coming up on 50
- 39:03and last year I had we had a loss in our family.
- 39:11My mother-in-law passed away from stage 4 cancer and she was
- 39:18a beautiful person. When I met her.
- 39:24She was younger than I am now and it was just like 20 years
- 39:30ago that time flew by just like a blink of an eye.
- 39:35And when you lose someone like that who's close to you, you
- 39:39realize reality check all of our time is is flying by.
- 39:46We've got one life to live. Let's play it full out.
- 39:50Let's make sure that we're enjoying the life that we we
- 39:53want in doing whatever we can to show up as the best version of
- 39:56ourselves to achieve it so that. That's kind of been a motivator
- 40:03for me is is to help people out there that might have that
- 40:07passion, like I did with music, like I did when I started my web
- 40:12design business. Help them identify the things
- 40:15that they don't know that they don't know so that they can take
- 40:18new actions and achieve new results.
- 40:21Well, let's let's take a moment to try to light a fire under our
- 40:26listeners. What's what is something that
- 40:29you can say to help inspire people to take action, take on a
- 40:35new fresh perspective, get people psyched up, encouraged.
- 40:39Like what's what's a low hanging fruit for somebody listening
- 40:43today? All right, so low hanging fruit.
- 40:46You mentioned it earlier. I'm when I'm hosting a podcast,
- 40:52I'll I'll tell people, don't just listen to these podcasts.
- 40:57Take an action from something that you heard from the podcast
- 41:01and whether that's taking a moment to step back and reflect
- 41:06on what is your bold vision? Are you living the life that you
- 41:09want? If you're not satisfied with
- 41:12where you're at at the moment, do you have it defined?
- 41:16I was listening to an audio book yesterday at the gym, and it
- 41:19talked about how the author interviewed Arnold
- 41:22Schwarzenegger years back before it became famous.
- 41:28And he was talking about he just launched this movie, and it
- 41:37really failed. And he asked Arnold what his
- 41:40next step was after bodybuilding.
- 41:41And he said I'm going to be the most accomplished actor in
- 41:47Hollywood in the next few years. And he said it was such.
- 41:51That was horrible. He said it with such carefree
- 41:56attitude and confidence, and he was asked, well, how do you know
- 42:01you're going to do that? It's like, because I've created
- 42:04a vision and I'm now going to apply the same techniques I did
- 42:08to build beyond the top of the bodybuilding to step into that
- 42:11vision. And the thought is the vision
- 42:18didn't just come to him. It, it, it, it didn't just
- 42:21appear to him. He needed to create the vision.
- 42:26So my challenge, the one thing actionable take away, I would
- 42:29suggest would be if you're not satisfied with something that
- 42:33you currently have now and you want to improve it, document
- 42:37with that vision is make it clear.
- 42:42Write it out. You say, Oh yeah, if I've heard
- 42:46that if it's not written now, it's not up to date, you're not
- 42:49looking at it on a regular basis, then do that.
- 42:52You are the creator of your reality, but you won't get to
- 42:56where you want to go if it's not clear, if it's not defined,
- 43:00because it won't be defined. So take that action and and
- 43:02create that bold vision. Write it out.
- 43:04Create the vision, write it down, put it somewhere that you
- 43:08can review it on a regular basis.
- 43:09Make sure that you're still working towards that as you look
- 43:13at your own business. Kenny, what's been one of the
- 43:17biggest growth? Levers for you to pull.
- 43:21I think that the change that I've had when it comes to
- 43:27marketing and sales, and it's what I advocate for and it's a
- 43:30lot of the people that connect with me and I share that
- 43:33mindset, especially in the type of work that I do.
- 43:36And this is where working with advisors, consultants and
- 43:41coaches, sometimes they have a mindset of how they get
- 43:44business. I'm going to market myself and
- 43:48people will just, you'll find business that way and you can do
- 43:52that. You can run advertising, you can
- 43:55put out content, you can do those things and you should.
- 43:58Yet there are, there's going to be a percentage of the market
- 44:03that aren't looking for you because they don't know what
- 44:08they don't know. In fact, my best prospects and
- 44:12clients are doing good already and they may not even think that
- 44:17they need help. They probably don't need help,
- 44:20but they can. Everyone can benefit from having
- 44:24more perspective, from having somebody who's going to
- 44:26challenge you to be the better version of yourself to help hold
- 44:30you accountable. So the the thought is to
- 44:35proactively reach out and connect with people and build
- 44:39relationships and genuinely connect with them and just share
- 44:47how you help people, how you help people solve their
- 44:50challenges. You connect with more people,
- 44:54connect and engage with them and share how you help people.
- 44:58If you authentically do that, there's more than enough
- 45:02opportunity out there. I think what prevents people
- 45:05from doing that is the people who are doing something similar,
- 45:10but they'll connect with people and they'll try to push a sail
- 45:14on someone and it it has the adverse effect, just pushes
- 45:17people away. So I'm not saying cold calling,
- 45:21I'm not saying go out and try to sell all your stuff to people.
- 45:24I'm saying connect, engage, and enroll people in new
- 45:27possibilities. Say more about that.
- 45:30What does that look like as opposed to a cold call?
- 45:33Because I think that's the part that of sales that most people
- 45:36would be familiar with. What you're talking about sounds
- 45:39more like nurturing a relationship.
- 45:41How do you go about doing that? So for example, I, I use my
- 45:45podcast as a way to, to begin in foster relationships.
- 45:50I'll maybe I had the author of getting things done on my
- 45:57podcast. And when you're connecting with
- 46:01people, you're going to you can reach out to them directly and
- 46:06say, Hey, I see you and I would like to have a conversation with
- 46:10you and learn more about your business.
- 46:13You're asking them questions, you're getting to know them.
- 46:16And then if you get to know them and you believe that you can
- 46:20provide value to them, you can simply share, hey, I help people
- 46:24who have this challenge achieve this result.
- 46:28If somebody leans in and says, oh, yeah, I could actually use
- 46:32some help there, then you can say, all right, we can have that
- 46:36conversation. Let's let's continue.
- 46:39If they don't lean in and they don't have that need, you can
- 46:42simply share something that would be helpful for them and
- 46:47ask to be introduced to maybe somebody they know.
- 46:51Maybe they're part of an organization, professional
- 46:53organization or association. Maybe they have a connection or
- 46:58a contact that could use a little bit of help with the
- 47:01value you provide. So it's simply reaching out,
- 47:07connecting and having a plan to move relationships forward
- 47:12authentically. Not pushing, but more pulling by
- 47:17asking questions, engaging and sharing.
- 47:20We don't need to sell, we need to share, Communicate the value
- 47:23we provide authentically. I like that.
- 47:27You know, Kenny, in my experience, behind most success
- 47:30stories, there's usually a chapter that almost broke
- 47:34somebody. But can you share a serious
- 47:36challenge that you've gone through, personal or
- 47:38professional, how you got through that and what you
- 47:41learned? Well, I thank you, Anthony.
- 47:44I hope, I hope you would ask. Yes, I'm glad to do that.
- 47:49And because I think it is very helpful.
- 47:53I did have two business partners, but one of them and we
- 47:59added a kind of change of heart, right.
- 48:02So splitting of the ways and at the time I was really not happy
- 48:11with that because it caused a lot of problems.
- 48:16We had an agreement of what we were going to do, like agreement
- 48:21wasn't quite kept and the business that I stayed in ended
- 48:27up having some attrition because of this change.
- 48:34Try not to get into the messy details.
- 48:36So we lost some of our biggest clients, which took revenue
- 48:41hits. Everything was a mess because
- 48:44our other partner was kind of like the key point person in the
- 48:47business. And so it's like, well, this is
- 48:50now just ugly. Now we've got to clean up this
- 48:53big mess and we just lost a lot of revenue.
- 48:56Uh, and then when you're having another kid on the way and more
- 49:03expenses and you're growing and your money's going in the
- 49:05opposite direction. And I was getting into growth
- 49:08coaching at that time, you kind of feel like a, an imposter,
- 49:13like a failure. And so I wanted to be authentic,
- 49:21but I felt like #1 I just need to toughen through this.
- 49:28I don't need help here and #2 I thought I couldn't share and and
- 49:33be vulnerable. So, so like I should have all
- 49:36the answers. Luckily, I was going to chapter
- 49:44meetings of the International Coaching Federation and one of
- 49:48the ladies there, she had participated in a graduate class
- 49:53for doing like mindfulness and she asked if I would be willing
- 49:57to go through some exercises for mindfulness and give feedback as
- 50:03part of her, you know, graduate class requirements.
- 50:07So because that was the condition, I said, OK, I'll do
- 50:11that. What did I learn?
- 50:15I learned number one, me thinking I needed to power
- 50:19through it and not working with someone to help me identify my
- 50:22feelings and process. Some of that was the opposite
- 50:27thing that I should have done. Anthony I I was losing my mind.
- 50:32I was holding on to so much resentment and frustration.
- 50:37I was having anxiety issues. I remember being in a in a
- 50:41parking lot with my wife. We went to the movies and I
- 50:47started like tearing up and almost crying.
- 50:51She's like, what's going on? I'm like, I don't know.
- 50:54I really don't know. I'm just freaking out over here
- 50:59and it was imagine if it's, if it's happening like that, it's
- 51:03causing sleep loss, things of that nature.
- 51:07But because we had the, the coach was walking me through
- 51:11that mindfulness and helping me process feelings and communicate
- 51:15and being vulnerable and being open and honest and working
- 51:18through that, I was able to let it go and process it in a
- 51:25healthy way. And so I learned, number one, I
- 51:31shouldn't feel like just because I'm a coach or an advisor that I
- 51:35don't need one myself. And #2 I can share my losses, my
- 51:42setbacks, I can share my failures.
- 51:45And that's OK. And when you do that at that,
- 51:48that helps others see and learn as well.
- 51:54You grow when you share your failures.
- 51:56You grow when you can get back up and, and learn from the
- 51:59mistakes and you help other people grow when you communicate
- 52:02those lessons learned. So that was a big lesson in in
- 52:08after processing that, wrapping it up here.
- 52:12After processing that and finally letting that go, I
- 52:14started being able to focus on taking new actions to achieve
- 52:18new results and getting right back on track, reinventing
- 52:21myself and, and going to where I wanted to be versus getting so
- 52:25caught up in the, in being in a victim mindset and holding on to
- 52:31the past that I, I was just stuck.
- 52:34So that therapeutic discussion, asking questions, being guided
- 52:41to see things differently, again, transformative.
- 52:45Kenny, I'm so glad that you shared that.
- 52:47You know, I've got some other guests, good friends of mine who
- 52:51are coaches in different respects.
- 52:54And I've heard this kind of story before where they've got
- 52:57this personal brand of I am the person who helps others.
- 53:01And so when their life hits a brick wall, you know, things
- 53:05just feel like they're not working out.
- 53:07You're so frustrated and you're so down.
- 53:09You don't know which end is up. Even more so than the average
- 53:13person. They feel like they can't go and
- 53:15talk to somebody because I'm the guy who helps other people
- 53:18through these times. I'm not the guy who asks for
- 53:20help. If I ask for help, then what am
- 53:23I doing? I can't coach other people.
- 53:25And so you having the courage to share that today and saying I
- 53:30was stuck in that trap. And then I went and I did get
- 53:33help. And why was it transformative
- 53:36for me? Thank you, Anthony, for, for
- 53:41mentioning that because it, it is a mindset shift in us as my
- 53:45sons have grown up a bit and, you know, getting into teenage
- 53:48years is, is also giving me that other perspective.
- 53:52So now I always have a coach. I always have at least one
- 53:55person who's helping me in one area, if not a couple, because
- 54:00I'm an advocate for it. And I think if you're, you're in
- 54:02business or you're trying to grow something, you should have
- 54:05somebody who's helping you see your blind spot, who's, who's
- 54:09challenging you to take new actions, get outside of your
- 54:12comfort zone, who's helping hold you accountable.
- 54:15When, when we get into teenage mindset thinking, Oh, I know
- 54:18everything already. We're shooting ourselves in the
- 54:21flight. It's, it's not a good mindset.
- 54:24And that's what teenagers do when because they think they
- 54:26know everything. And what do we know?
- 54:28Teenagers don't know everything. They, they know what they know.
- 54:31They don't, they don't know what they don't know.
- 54:34So the more I've learned on my journey, the more I realized I
- 54:36don't know. I'm just, and we're constantly
- 54:38changing. We're constantly caught up in
- 54:40the day-to-day. We're constantly being swirled
- 54:42around so much, even sometimes I'm having to be reminded that
- 54:47the things I teach others and somehow lost that I was, you
- 54:51know, not doing it myself. Like, oh, yeah.
- 54:55So thank you, Anthony, for for pointing that out.
- 54:57It is a big important part. Never get in the mindset that
- 55:01you're youth know everything and that you can't benefit from
- 55:06working with other people to help you out in other areas.
- 55:10What's your superpower, Kenny? I think from a young age I've
- 55:16been told that I'm able to connect with people on a genuine
- 55:21level. And maybe it's a little bit of
- 55:24empathy combined with a little bit of visionary and a little
- 55:30bit of integrator. So it's it kind of puts me in
- 55:33that spot where I have that entrepreneurial spirit.
- 55:37I can see things, I can kind of connect the dots, have a vision
- 55:40with something. I'll also have a systematic
- 55:44mindset. So I'm able to put structure to
- 55:46it, put it into a plan and then help connect with people to
- 55:50connect those dots. So it's the combination of those
- 55:56things that creates a, a superpower.
- 55:59And, and when one of the things I'm a big advocate for to
- 56:03Anthony is getting video testimonials, which if you're in
- 56:06a business and you connect with clients or customers online, or
- 56:11even if you don't, getting video testimonials is a great way to
- 56:16have your happy clients and customers advocate for you.
- 56:20Connecting on something like Zoom is the easy way just to ask
- 56:22him some questions and get some video testimonials.
- 56:26Point being, a lot of the people that have connected with me, if
- 56:29you go to my website, Kenny Harper dot rocks, you can hear
- 56:33video testimonials of people saying that sort of thing had
- 56:37these ideas. I couldn't quite put them into a
- 56:41a structure plan. I was kind of spinning my own
- 56:43wheels and getting some help, plan and some accountability.
- 56:47To go from having an idea to being in action is what they
- 56:52really found value in. Say more about how you approach
- 56:56those video testimonials. At what point in the client life
- 57:00cycle are you asking for them? How do you ask for them?
- 57:04How do you sort of prime them, kind of walk us through the
- 57:07process? All right, so I'll share a
- 57:09couple different things. This is really cool.
- 57:11If you're listening in, don't just listen to this, take an
- 57:14action. So some people have a lot of
- 57:17clients, they've been in business for decades, and now do
- 57:21you have any testimonials? Not really.
- 57:24How much business do you think you can get if when you
- 57:27connected with new people or you put a message out, you had a
- 57:31wall of people advocating for you, telling how you've helped
- 57:33them get the things that they want.
- 57:36It's totally transformative when they're like, well, I, I don't
- 57:39know how to get videos, video testimonials.
- 57:44Well, you can ask people, right? So we can ask people and say,
- 57:48hey, based on our conversations, based on the things we've been
- 57:52able to achieve, would you feel comfortable leaving a short
- 57:55video, doing a short interview with me and I'll just record it
- 57:58and we can use it for video testimonial.
- 58:02I asked people to schedule a 15 minute meeting with me or a
- 58:04member of my team. We asked him four simple
- 58:08questions. We record it, we edit it, we
- 58:11share it for review, and then we could use it for content.
- 58:16You could just ask people to do it, but from what I found,
- 58:20people will get busy. They don't know what to say,
- 58:22they overthink it, or sometimes they'll say something that's not
- 58:25really even relevant to being helpful.
- 58:28I liked Kenny's jackets. They were always interesting.
- 58:31Thank you for that testimonial. So what are the four simple
- 58:36questions that you asked Kenny? All right, four simple questions
- 58:39and just ask them to introduce themselves, their name, their
- 58:42company and what they do. That's one.
- 58:45Then what is something that they found beneficial working with me
- 58:50or a member for my team or from the program, something that they
- 58:52found beneficial and then how did that help benefit their
- 58:56business? That's number three.
- 58:58How did that thing that they found beneficial help them?
- 59:02What did it help them do? What it helped them accomplish
- 59:04was the benefit of the benefit. And then #4 why would they
- 59:08recommend me or my program to others who are looking to grow
- 59:14and improve? 4 simple questions.
- 59:16I say don't overthink it. Just talk to me as a person or
- 59:20record it and then I'll edit it. You'll, you'll get to review it
- 59:26and then we can share it online and that people enjoy it.
- 59:32This is an important part. Uh oh, got a little things
- 59:36saying reconnect. Here's the thing that blocks
- 59:39people from doing this. They think, well, I don't want
- 59:45to impose on people and ask them to do this favor.
- 59:51But here's the thing I've learned.
- 59:54If you've helped someone achieve something in their life and help
- 59:59them simplify, take away a challenge or get get somewhere,
- 1:00:03accomplish something that was important to them, it makes the
- 1:00:06them feel good to communicate that in return the favor it is.
- 1:00:12It is not something that makes them feel bad or imposed.
- 1:00:15If they don't want to do video testimonials, then not
- 1:00:18everyone's going to want to do a video.
- 1:00:19That's OK. But asking them to share
- 1:00:24everyone that I get done when doing these.
- 1:00:26Video testimonial requests or member of my teams, do they like
- 1:00:30doing it? They feel good about doing it
- 1:00:32helps them feel good. So if you can shift it in your
- 1:00:36mind from I don't want to make people feel bad to I want to
- 1:00:41give them the opportunity to share and that'll make them feel
- 1:00:45good, then it's you're giving an opportunity for someone to feel
- 1:00:49good. So what does that outreach
- 1:00:51message look like? You're sending them an e-mail
- 1:00:53asking them to schedule 15 minutes.
- 1:00:55What does it say? So if you already or somebody
- 1:01:00from your team already is connecting and hasn't a chance
- 1:01:03to connect in a one to one basis like some accountants do, they
- 1:01:06have a regular standard meetings.
- 1:01:07I think the best way is just to have a quick conversation and
- 1:01:10just saying, hey, I'm working on trying to get some video
- 1:01:13testimonials. Would you mind scheduling a time
- 1:01:16where we can, I can ask you a few questions and we can record
- 1:01:20it to get a testimonial, something very simple, very
- 1:01:23authentic. And 99 * 99 * 99% of the times
- 1:01:31people will say yes. Occasionally someone will be
- 1:01:33like, I don't like being on video.
- 1:01:34Be like, OK, well, could you answer the questions and we
- 1:01:37could get the audio or we could just get what you'd like to say.
- 1:01:40And, and if you don't have those regular connections, just a
- 1:01:47simple e-mail. Hey, I'm looking to get some
- 1:01:50feedback on some of the progress that we've had made in our
- 1:01:56relationship. Would you be open to scheduling
- 1:01:59a 15 minute call and I'll ask you some questions to get your
- 1:02:03feedback. Might use it for a video
- 1:02:05testimonial. If yes, here's a link to my
- 1:02:07calendar. Very simple, very quick.
- 1:02:11Then you're putting that those videos on your website
- 1:02:14obviously, but any other ways that you like to repurpose
- 1:02:17those? That's a great question.
- 1:02:20Anthony, have you been trained in marketing?
- 1:02:25Yes. So that's a good point because
- 1:02:28that's another thing I'll I'll share and I'm doing it right now
- 1:02:32putting people say like, oh, we got a bunch of reviews on our
- 1:02:36Google page or on our Facebook or what have you.
- 1:02:39That's nice. It serves a purpose for people
- 1:02:42that go there and look for it. But you can also share that
- 1:02:44content in posts. You can share it in social
- 1:02:49posts, you share it on YouTube, you can put it into your sales
- 1:02:53collateral, you can put it out into your e-mail.
- 1:02:57You can send it to people directly if they're if you're
- 1:03:01connecting with someone who really wants to get the value
- 1:03:05that you provide, they have a good connection, but they have a
- 1:03:08fear. They have a fear because they've
- 1:03:10tried something in the past, it didn't work out and they don't
- 1:03:14want to repeat that that same mistake.
- 1:03:17So they're like, I hired someone in the past, they said all these
- 1:03:19things and then they totally, you know, didn't do what they
- 1:03:22said they're going to do. So in those cases, I'll be like,
- 1:03:26I understand, but don't take it from me here.
- 1:03:31Listen to what these other people said and let them do the
- 1:03:35talking. And when people hear genuine
- 1:03:40people communicating that they had a challenge, but someone
- 1:03:45took the time to understand them, what their needs were, and
- 1:03:49then went above and beyond to help them achieve it, that sells
- 1:03:54itself for the people who and hopefully eliminates someone's
- 1:04:00fear so they can take the actions needed to get to where
- 1:04:02they want to. Go.
- 1:04:05I love that, you know, and one of the things Kenny's been
- 1:04:08talking about is don't just listen, take action.
- 1:04:11And what he just shared there on the video testimonials, go back
- 1:04:17re listen to that again. I think it's going to end up
- 1:04:18being the most listened to part of the entire episode.
- 1:04:21There's a lot of great knowledge bombs in there.
- 1:04:24Super simple process that anybody with a, you know, Zoom
- 1:04:27account can execute on. Kenny, I've just got one more
- 1:04:31question for you today. But before I ask, I'm going to
- 1:04:34do 3 quick things. First of all, anybody who wants
- 1:04:37to get in touch with our guest today, he's mentioned some of
- 1:04:41these websites already. There's Kenny Harper, dot Rocks
- 1:04:44and Kenny. What will they find there?
- 1:04:47So I've been talking about the business side, but recently
- 1:04:52launched more of a personal development side of looking at
- 1:04:57mindset, habits, things of that nature.
- 1:04:59So you can find some free resources and articles and
- 1:05:01videos to help you step into being the best version of
- 1:05:04yourself. Love it.
- 1:05:06And then the other two addresses I'm going to give out here.
- 1:05:10First is Growth amplifier.com for his business.
- 1:05:13There's all kinds of great content and video testimonials
- 1:05:16there and the book that we've been talking about and hold the
- 1:05:20book up again for us, Kenny, one more time.
- 1:05:23There we go. Amplified Advisor.
- 1:05:25You can get that for free today. Go to growthamplifier.com/book.
- 1:05:31Growth amplifier.com/book. Growth amplifiers.
- 1:05:36Oh, thank you. It's plural.
- 1:05:37Yes, growth amplifiers, because who is a growth amplifier?
- 1:05:43Just to be clear, if you're tuned in, you made it all the
- 1:05:45way this far, our chances are you are an amplifier.
- 1:05:48An amplifier is somebody who has that passion.
- 1:05:50They are taking that their expertise and they're trying to
- 1:05:54make a positive difference in the world.
- 1:05:57And all the things that I'm looking to do is just share
- 1:06:01helpful tools, tips, and resources to help you turn up
- 1:06:04the volume clear blocks so that you can amplify your message, so
- 1:06:08you can amplify your impact. So Growth Amplifiers is about
- 1:06:11growing yourself, going your business and expanding your
- 1:06:14purpose. And the book mentioned the
- 1:06:17Amplified Advisor. It has the overview of the
- 1:06:21system, links to the assessment. We're giving away all the best
- 1:06:25stuff that we've got because we're just looking to build
- 1:06:28relationships and make the biggest impact we can while
- 1:06:30we're still in this world and you're still serving your bigger
- 1:06:34vision. Mother, two other things before
- 1:06:37I get to my last question for folks listening, If you're
- 1:06:40enjoying the show, a quick comment or review on your
- 1:06:43favorite podcast app goes a long way towards helping others
- 1:06:47discover our show. So thank you for taking a quick
- 1:06:50moment to do that right now. And as a reminder, if you want
- 1:06:54to be the hero advisor that shows your clients how to get
- 1:06:57their employees access to therapists, doctors and
- 1:07:00prescription meds that, as paradoxical as it seems,
- 1:07:03actually increases the company's net profits, reach out to us at
- 1:07:06AD back benefits.com. All right, last question for
- 1:07:09you, Kenny. A year from now, what is 1
- 1:07:11specific thing that you hope to be celebrating?
- 1:07:15So I just kicked it off yesterday.
- 1:07:17I've got a project I'm working on with my sons and some of
- 1:07:22their friends. It's the School of Rock.
- 1:07:24Yes, I'm copying Jack Black, the School of Rock.
- 1:07:29But I'm last summer we had my boys learn a set of music that
- 1:07:34they could play with the song playing.
- 1:07:37This year I'm trying to get a set that they can play without
- 1:07:40the song playing and we can try to get a show presented in front
- 1:07:44of people. So if we can get that, my goal
- 1:07:47is to help them develop some music skills, but also
- 1:07:50leadership, communication and just enjoying that process.
- 1:07:54So it's an important part for me for them just to express their
- 1:07:57creativity and have fun doing it.
- 1:08:01Kenny Harper from Growth Amplifiers, I want to be the
- 1:08:03first to thank you for sharing both your time and your story
- 1:08:06with us today. I'm really appreciate you.
- 1:08:09Likewise, thank you so much, Anthony.
- 1:08:11I appreciate what you're doing and the opportunity to share my
- 1:08:15experience to help others on theirs.
- 1:08:18That's a wrap on another episode of the Inspired Stories podcast.
- 1:08:21Thanks for learning with us today.
