- 0:11Hello friends, it is Sean. Here it is the 19th of September
- 0:17a Tuesday and hello. So glad that you can join me as
- 0:21we are going to keep on reading through the book of Acts.
- 0:23Now this is the part of the Bible where some Christians get
- 0:27a little bit uneasy and uncomfortable and feel guilty
- 0:30that you haven't solved everything you own given the
- 0:34money to the church and moved into a commune somewhere with
- 0:38you Christian brothers and sisters just like they did in
- 0:41the the church and act. That is okay.
- 0:44You don't need to feel bad. There are some parts of the New
- 0:47Testament which are normative which speak about what you and I
- 0:50should do in our Christian life. And there are other parts which
- 0:53just describe the things that happened in that context and
- 0:57that time and place. And this is one of the things
- 1:00that happened there. Yes, you and I should pay
- 1:02attention to those who have less than us and share what God has
- 1:05given us. Yes, you and I should meet
- 1:08together regularly and share God's word with each other and
- 1:11encourage each other. But you are allowed to have a
- 1:14house. You are allowed to have a couch
- 1:16to sit on at the end of a long day.
- 1:19God does not desire or dictate that you need to sell everything
- 1:23that you have. That is just what happened in
- 1:25this time and place. So release that burden of guilt
- 1:30from your shoulders. Don't feel like, oh man, I'm
- 1:32not, I'm not a proper Christian. You're okay, You're okay where
- 1:36you are doing the life you do, loving Jesus and serving him in
- 1:40your context. So having said that, we can get
- 1:44back and keep on reading and see what these amazing disciples are
- 1:49up to with the Spirit of God animating them in everything
- 1:52that they do. So join me, friends, as we read
- 1:55together Acts Chapter 3. Peter and John went to the
- 2:10temple one afternoon to take part in the 3:00 press service.
- 2:14As they approached the temple, a man lame from birth was being
- 2:18carried in each day. He was put beside the temple
- 2:22gate, the one called the Beautiful gate, so he could beg
- 2:26from the people going into the temple.
- 2:28When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some
- 2:32money. Peter and John looked at him
- 2:34intently, and Peter said, look at us.
- 2:39The layman looked at them eagerly, expecting some money.
- 2:42But Peter said, I don't have any silver or gold for you, but I'll
- 2:47give you what I have in the name of Jesus Christ, the Nazarene.
- 2:52Get up and walk. Then Peter took the lame man by
- 2:57the right hand and helped him up as he did.
- 3:01The man's feet and ankles were instantly healed and
- 3:04strengthened. He jumped up, stood on his feet,
- 3:07and began to walk. Then walking, leaping and
- 3:11praising God, He went into the temple with them.
- 3:15All the people saw him walking and heard him praising God.
- 3:19When they realized he was the lame beggar they had seen so
- 3:22often at the beautiful gate, they were absolutely astounded.
- 3:27They all rushed out, an amazement to Solomon's
- 3:29Colonnade, where the man was holding tightly to Peter and
- 3:33John. Peter saw his opportunity and
- 3:36addressed the crowd. People of Israel, he said.
- 3:40What is so surprising about this?
- 3:42And why stare at us as though we have made this man walk by our
- 3:46own power or godliness? For it is the God of Abraham,
- 3:50Isaac, and Jacob, the God of all our ancestors, who has brought
- 3:55glory to his servant Jesus by doing this.
- 3:58This is the same Jesus whom you handed over and rejected before
- 4:02Pilate, despite Pilate's decision to release him.
- 4:06You rejected this holy righteous one and instead demanded the
- 4:12release of a murderer. You killed the author of life,
- 4:16but God raised him from the dead, and we are witnesses of
- 4:20this fact. Through faith in the name of
- 4:24Jesus, this man was healed, and you know how crippled he was
- 4:28before Faith in Jesus name has healed him before your very
- 4:33eyes. Friends, I realized that what
- 4:37you and your leaders did to Jesus was done in ignorance.
- 4:41But God was fulfilling what all the prophets had foretold about
- 4:44the Messiah, that he must suffer these things.
- 4:48Now repent of your sins and turn to God so that your sins may be
- 4:53wiped away. Then times of refreshment will
- 4:57come from the presence of the Lord, and he will again send you
- 5:01Jesus, your appointed Messiah. For he must remain in heaven
- 5:06until the time for the final restoration of all things, as
- 5:09God promised long ago through his holy prophets.
- 5:13Moses said the Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet
- 5:18like me from among your own people.
- 5:21Listen carefully to everything he tells you.
- 5:24Then Moses said anyone who will not listen to that prophet will
- 5:29be completely cut off from God's people.
- 5:32Starting with Samuel, every prophet spoke about what is
- 5:36happening today. You are the children of those
- 5:39prophets and you are included in the covenant God promise to your
- 5:43ancestors. For God said to Abraham, through
- 5:46your descendants, all the families on earth will be
- 5:50blessed. When God raised up his servant
- 5:53Jesus, he sent him first to you, people of Israel, to bless you.
- 5:58By turning each of you back from your sinful ways,
- 6:13you keep your eyes firmly fixed on the prize, Jesus, the prize
- 6:18of restoring humans to you your whole life.
- 6:24Your whole ministry was toward that singular purpose, and
- 6:28having achieved it and giving your spirit to your followers,
- 6:31here we see that work continuing so powerfully and has continued
- 6:38as millions of people around the world now call you Lord and
- 6:41Savior as we do, for you are our Lord and our Savior.
- 6:49May that story continue in us today.
- 6:53Lord Jesus, use us as You would so that your Kingdom can be
- 6:59furthered and grown in our words and in our actions.
- 7:04We are Your servants and We rededicate ourselves to you as
- 7:09that living sacrifice to do Your will and your work in this world
- 7:15to share your love, your forgiveness, and your healing.
- 7:18Touch wherever we can. Use us in your powerful, loving
- 7:23name, Jesus. I'm in.
