- 0:00Welcome to the Red State Finance Podcast, the show where we break down the markets, the policy, and your money through a clear, common sense lens and zero tolerance for official government fairytales.
- 0:13I'm your host, Dana. And I'm Anthony. Thanks for tuning in, everyone.
- 0:18Today, we are strapping on our tinfoil hats and diving straight into the deep end of global conspiracy theories, geopolitical puppet mastery, and why your local gas station is charging you an arm and a leg for a gallon of diesel.
- 0:32If you turn on cable news or browse late-night YouTube rabbit holes, you'll hear every theory under the sun. The US is starting wars in the Middle East to steal oil. Right. No, wait.
- 0:47Washington is intentionally jacking up diesel prices to crush the middle class. No, it's a secret alliance between Saudi Arabia and Wall Street to force us into buying electric cars. It's the ultimate conspiracy buffet.
- 1:05Every time inflation hits a new high or a war breaks out, everyone suddenly becomes a rogue geopolitical analyst with a webcam and a whiteboard. Totally.
- 1:15So today, we are lining up all the wildest, most popular theories about why the US government starts wars, why diesel and oil prices are out of control, and why inflation is eating your paycheck alive.
- 1:32We're analyzing the crazy theories, the actual economics, the petrodollar politics, and what's really happening under the hood. Grab your coffee, hold onto your gas caps, and let's get into the numbers.
- 1:46Dana, let's start with the classic granddaddy of all geopolitical conspiracy theories, the military industrial complex and blood for oil narrative.
- 1:55The theory goes that Washington doesn't actually care about democracy or human rights overseas. The US government starts conflicts in the Middle East, North Africa, or Eastern Europe for two main reasons. Mm-hmm.
- 2:10First, to keep Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, and General Dynamics swimming in trillion-dollar defense contracts. And second, to control global oil pipelines and keep foreign crude flowing exclusively in US dollars.
- 2:26Right, the petrodollar theory.
- 2:29If a foreign leader like Saddam Hussein in Iraq or Muammar Gaddafi in Libya so much as breathes the idea of selling their oil in euros, gold, or Chinese yuan instead of US dollars, boom, freedom arrives in a fighter jet three weeks later.
- 2:46Huh. It's remarkable how fast democracy gets delivered to countries sitting on massive crude reserves, Anthony. Exactly.
- 2:55Meanwhile, if a country has zero oil and zero strategic value, Washington suddenly remembers that foreign intervention is complicated. But let's look at the actual logic here.
- 3:08Does the US government start wars just to drive oil prices up? The conspiracy theorists argue that high oil prices enrich major American energy giants like ExxonMobil and Chevron.
- 3:21Higher crude prices mean record profits, which means bigger corporate tax receipts and lobbying kickbacks for politicians in Washington. But here's the flaw in that theory.
- 3:32If the goal was just to get cheap oil, invading countries and blowing up refineries is literally the most expensive, inefficient way to do it. Right.
- 3:42Back in the 2000s, it cost trillions of taxpayer dollars to secure oil fields in Iraq while US gas prices soared to record highs at home.
- 3:53If Washington just wanted cheap crude, it would be 1,000 times cheaper to simply drop economic sanctions and trade with everyone.
- 4:03Now let's pivot to a theory that has been blowing up on social media over the last couple of years, the intentional diesel squeeze. Oh, this one gets real dark, Anthony. Why do people care so much about diesel?
- 4:17Because diesel isn't just fuel for trucks. Diesel is the literal blood of the modern global economy.
- 4:24Freight trucks, tractor trailers, cargo ships, farm tractors, trains, and heavy construction equipment all run on diesel. Right. If gasoline goes up, you spend an extra $20 filling up your sedan.
- 4:37But if diesel goes up, the cost to transport grain, meat, lumber, microchips, and toilet paper explodes across the entire supply chain.
- 4:47The conspiracy theory here is that Washington and globalist elites are intentionally suppressing diesel refining capacity to engineer a supply chain crisis.
- 4:59They point to the fact that US refinery capacity dropped significantly over the last few years, with several major refineries closing down or being converted into biofuel facilities.
- 5:11The theorists say, "Look, the government uses ESG mandates, EPA regulations, and net zero climate goals to make it impossible for companies to build new oil refineries in America.
- 5:25They are deliberately suffocating diesel supplies to force trucking companies and heavy industry into expensive green technology or crush small independent truckers." [laughs] It's the ultimate forced transition theory.
- 5:40Make fossil fuels so absurdly expensive and scarce that people have no choice but to surrender and buy an electric semi-truck that costs half a million dollars. But what's the common sense economic reality?
- 5:55Refineries didn't close because of a sinister Illuminati meeting. They closed because of brutal market math. During the 2020 lockdowns, demand for fuel collapsed.
- 6:06Oil companies lost tens of billions of dollars, and aging refineries that required billions in maintenance got shut down because they were unprofitable Brutal market math Combine that with high refining margins, complex regulatory red tape, and global sanctions on Russian heavy crude, which is specifically used to make diesel, and you get a severe supply crunch.
- 6:31That brings us to theory number three, inflation is a deliberate government money grab. When inflation hit 40-year highs, politicians rushed to blame everyone else. President Biden called it Putin's price hike.
- 6:47Corporate media called it greedflation caused by greedy grocery stores. Conservatives blamed government handouts. Mm. But the conspiracy crowd says it's all an orchestrated distraction.
- 7:02The government creates inflation on purpose to pay off its own debt. And honestly, Anthony, out of all the theories today, this one actually has the most solid economic backing.
- 7:14As the legendary economist Milton Friedman famously said, "Inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon." Think about it, folks. The US government is sitting on over $40 trillion in national debt.
- 7:32How does a government pay off $40 trillion when it can't balance a budget to save its life? It prints trillions of new dollars out of thin air.
- 7:44And when you flood the economy with trillions of newly printed dollars, every single existing dollar loses purchasing power. That means your groceries, your rent, your energy, and your used cars cost more.
- 7:59But guess who benefits? The debtor. Ha. Uncle Sam pays off his old $30,000 debts with new dollars that are worth 30% less. Inflation is literally a stealth tax on your savings.
- 8:14The government steals 10% of your purchasing power every year, blames corporate greed or foreign wars on TV, and uses the inflated currency to service its own mountain of debt.
- 8:28You don't need a secret underground cabal for this one. It's basic central banking.
- 8:33The Federal Reserve prints the cash, Congress spends it on foreign wars and domestic bailouts, and the working class pays the bill every time they scan their debit card at the grocery register.
- 8:46And finally, we have theory number four, the Great Reset and the elimination of individual mobility. This is the theory championed by the World Economic Forum skeptics.
- 8:58The claim is that Western governments, including the US, Canada, and Europe, are deliberately allowing energy prices to skyrocket as part of a long-term plan to dismantle individual car ownership and reduce energy consumption.
- 9:13The idea is if gas is $3 a gallon, everyone drives everywhere.
- 9:19But if gas hits $7 or $8 a gallon and diesel hits $9, working class people can no longer afford long commutes, road trips, or independent living in rural areas.
- 9:31They get forced into dense urban centers reliant on public transit, government subsidies, and digital tracking. You will own nothing, drive nothing, and be happy.
- 9:43[laughs] Now, while that sounds like a comic book villain plot, you have to admit that government energy policy often looks like it was designed by someone who hates cheap energy.
- 9:54Washington cancels pipeline leases, restricts offshore drilling, imposes massive compliance taxes on fossil fuels, and then acts shocked when energy prices shoot through the roof.
- 10:07Treasury officials literally go on news channels and say, "Well, high gas prices just show why we need to transition to renewable energy faster."
- 10:16It's like breaking someone's leg, handing them a pair of overpriced crutches, and saying, "See? I told you that leg wasn't working."
- 10:25So Anthony, let's look at all four theories, war for oil, the diesel squeeze, the inflation tax, and the Great Reset. What is the real common sense verdict here?
- 10:36The truth is usually a mix of incompetence, corporate interest, and government self-preservation. True. You don't need a grand cartoonish conspiracy to explain high fuel prices and inflation.
- 10:50One, politicians want to spend money to win elections and fund military conflicts. Yeah. Two, the Federal Reserve prints the money to finance that government deficit spending. Right.
- 11:05Three, energy regulations and global sanctions restrict the supply of crude and diesel refining. And four, Wall Street banks and oil companies take advantage of the chaos to maximize their profits.
- 11:19It's not a secret room full of hooded figures. It's just bad incentives, government overreach, and basic supply and demand, but the result for your wallet is the exact same.
- 11:30So how do everyday people protect their finances when the government is printing money, energy prices are volatile, and geopolitical wars threaten the global supply chain? Build an energy inflation shield.
- 11:44If energy prices and diesel drive up the cost of everything, position your portfolio in real hard assets. Own energy producers, pipeline infrastructure, and commodities that profit when fuel prices spike.
- 11:58Don't just be a victim at the gas pump. Be an owner on Wall Street. Second, eliminate variable rate debt. In an inflationary environment, central banks raise interest rates to pretend they are fighting inflation.
- 12:12If you hold variable rate credit cards or loans, your interest costs will eat you alive. Lock in fixed rates or pay off high interest debt immediately. And third, own hard assets, not just paper money.
- 12:27If inflation is Uncle Sam's hidden tax to erode national debt, sitting on 100% cash in a low interest bank account means you are voluntarily agreeing to get poorer every single year.
- 12:39Keep your long-term wealth in real estate, productive equities, and hard assets like gold that hold value against currency debasement.
- 12:47Whether high fuel prices and global wars are caused by geopolitical chess or government incompetence, one thing is clear, the bill always lands on Main Street America. Well said, Dana.
