- 0:00Speaker 1: Change is coming. It's one more thing I'm strong, and
- 0:05Speaker 1: one more thing specifically buying and selling houses. Cool.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's pretty interesting, have that for a Yeah.
- 0:19Speaker 1: So you mentioned this during the Armstrong Ingeddy Show. We
- 0:23Speaker 1: were talking about spring break and how so Miami decided
- 0:27Speaker 1: they don't want people anymore there?
- 0:28Speaker 2: Huh, not for spring break? No two whild too violent,
- 0:33Speaker 2: too damaging, that sort of thing, because they've got a
- 0:35Speaker 2: steady tourism industry there. They don't need to be overwhelmed
- 0:39Speaker 2: by crazed twenty year olds once a year.
- 0:43Speaker 1: So how does this happen over and over again? Though?
- 0:45Speaker 1: That cities welcome spring Break, then turn against it, then
- 0:50Speaker 1: another city welcomes it.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Well, I what do you mean by welcomes it? Because
- 0:57Speaker 2: I think generally speaking, they have a tour industry. Word
- 1:01Speaker 2: gets around, it becomes very popular for spring break until
- 1:05Speaker 2: it's overwhelming, and then they take steps to cut it down.
- 1:09Speaker 1: I don't know. I suppose it depends. It varies on
- 1:13Speaker 1: how accommodating they are to the spring break world. I
- 1:16Speaker 1: would think as soon as you got a whiff of
- 1:18Speaker 1: we're becoming the spring break destination, you would come up
- 1:21Speaker 1: with ways to like make that less.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Popular institute martial law practically, which Miami Beach has to
- 1:29Speaker 2: a significant extent, curfeuse at eleven fifty nine PM and
- 1:33Speaker 2: that sort of thing. But they put out this commercial
- 1:37Speaker 2: in essence around the country about spring break that I
- 1:41Speaker 2: thought was really pretty well crafted.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Here it is, okay, well we need to talk. This
- 1:47Speaker 1: isn't working anymore, and it's not us, it's you. We
- 1:51Speaker 1: just want different things, all right. You have a good time,
- 1:54Speaker 1: it's relaxing on the beach, hitting up the spot, or
- 1:57Speaker 1: checking out a new restaurant.
- 1:58Speaker 3: You guys want to get drunken public and ignore laws.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Do you even remember what happened last March? That was
- 2:09Speaker 1: our breaking point? So we're breaking up with you, and don't.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Try to apologize and come crawling back.
- 2:15Speaker 1: This is in safe So we're done, just so you
- 2:19Speaker 1: know we're serious. This March, you can expect things like curfews,
- 2:23Speaker 1: bag checks and restricted beach access, DUI checkpoints, one hundred
- 2:28Speaker 1: dollars parking, and strong police enforcement for drug possession and violence,
- 2:33Speaker 1: whatever it takes, because it's times you want. Maybe we
- 2:36Speaker 1: can talk when you're done with your spring break phase,
- 2:38Speaker 1: but until then, that's pretty good. Yeah, what was the
- 2:45Speaker 1: sound there of the you went too far.
- 2:49Speaker 2: You probably saw it last year, the riots in the streets,
- 2:53Speaker 2: violence and the cops having a charge in and arrest
- 2:57Speaker 2: people and beatings.
- 2:59Speaker 1: And I wouldn't I wouldn't think you'd have to do
- 3:01Speaker 1: anything beyond the curfew. You tell everybody you can't be
- 3:04Speaker 1: on the beach, on the streets, outdoor, You got to
- 3:06Speaker 1: be in your room by midnight. That ends it. A
- 3:08Speaker 1: bunch of people did not get the word.
- 3:11Speaker 2: It'll take a little while, and we're you know, out
- 3:13Speaker 2: late in rioting in the rest in Miami Beach. But man,
- 3:16Speaker 2: they arrested people and find them and everything, so it's
- 3:20Speaker 2: going to be process.
- 3:23Speaker 1: And now they've moved up the road to Fort Lauderdale.
- 3:27Speaker 2: I guess, yeah, somewhere else warm and sunny and beachy. Anyway,
- 3:34Speaker 2: I worked during spring breaks. I know you took.
- 3:36Speaker 1: One after I got out of college. Oh yeah, I
- 3:40Speaker 1: worked every vacation of my entire college career. I worked
- 3:44Speaker 1: over Christmas, Thanksgiving, the entire summer always. So when I
- 3:49Speaker 1: got out of college, I thought I went through my
- 3:51Speaker 1: entire college, which took me five years, never took one
- 3:55Speaker 1: vacation from my full time job. So I went on
- 3:58Speaker 1: a spring break to Daytona, and everybody called me the
- 4:01Speaker 1: old man because I was twenty three, which was embarrassing.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I took zero spring break trips.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Of course, you know.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Part of the reason for that is if I felt
- 4:11Speaker 2: like getting hammered Tuesday night was a good enough casion.
- 4:15Speaker 2: There weren't that many women in bikinis nor beaches there
- 4:17Speaker 2: on Tuesday night.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I remember, I remember when I made the decision, Gladys
- 4:22Speaker 1: So I was in the library, i think, and I
- 4:25Speaker 1: saw this thing pinned on the wall and said, go
- 4:27Speaker 1: to Daytona Beach round trip, hotel and transportation two hundred
- 4:33Speaker 1: and thirty dollars. I thought, I can go to Daytona
- 4:35Speaker 1: Beach for a week, transportation and the hotel's two hundred
- 4:39Speaker 1: and thirty dollars. I mean, I was poor, but I
- 4:42Speaker 1: had never taken a vacation, and I thought, I'm finally
- 4:45Speaker 1: going to take a vacation. So I signed up for that,
- 4:48Speaker 1: and it was God dang it. I was almost too
- 4:50Speaker 1: old for it at twenty three. It was grueling. They'd
- 4:52Speaker 1: put you on a bus and they drove all the
- 4:54Speaker 1: way there, thirty two hour drive, stopping all for gas.
- 5:00Speaker 1: You're on a bus, for thirty two hours. How many
- 5:02Speaker 1: bathrooms one disgusting bathroom at the back of the Oh no,
- 5:09Speaker 1: plus there's the whole. I mean, it started off as
- 5:12Speaker 1: a fun party. You're on the bus and it's nice
- 5:14Speaker 1: and people got boom boxes and everybody's drinking because people
- 5:17Speaker 1: just came on there with cases of beer and I'm
- 5:21Speaker 1: just stacked everywhere and drinking it. Okay, that was fun
- 5:23Speaker 1: that first day. You know, you're partying to playing music. Whoa.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Then you know, you people fall asleep at various times,
- 5:30Speaker 1: and then there's the crowd that wants to be up
- 5:31Speaker 1: later than everybody else. Your head is pounding, and then
- 5:34Speaker 1: the next day you just feel like you're gonna die.
- 5:36Speaker 1: You're still on the bus for another like twenty four hours.
- 5:40Speaker 1: The bathroom is just like like Haiti is right now,
- 5:44Speaker 1: and NonStop music and screaming, and it was just oh,
- 5:48Speaker 1: it was brutal. Yeah, yeah, no kidding, Katie.
- 5:52Speaker 2: If you if you sentenced people who committed violent crimes
- 5:57Speaker 2: to that, the Supreme Court would overturn it.
- 5:59Speaker 1: I remember actually thinking, well, I gotta just start drinking again.
- 6:02Speaker 1: The only way I can tolerate this is if I'm drunk,
- 6:06Speaker 1: because it's so hungover and everything to make it through
- 6:09Speaker 1: the day. But then when I got there, speaking to
- 6:12Speaker 1: destroying cities, I'd never seen anything like this in my life.
- 6:15Speaker 1: And I came from a fairly sheltered background, but I'd
- 6:18Speaker 1: never seen anything like this. We check into the motel
- 6:20Speaker 1: six and everything like that, and everything is broken, Everything
- 6:22Speaker 1: is destroyed. Every lamp has been smashed, every light fixture
- 6:27Speaker 1: has been smashed, every window is smashed. It's just the
- 6:30Speaker 1: way people did it. Got on the elevator, all the
- 6:32Speaker 1: lights above you are smashed out. Just everybody smashed everything.
- 6:36Speaker 2: What the hell?
- 6:38Speaker 1: And that's when I got there because it'd been because
- 6:40Speaker 1: it's staggered. Not everybody's spring break is the same week,
- 6:44Speaker 1: so it's staggered over like a three week period, and
- 6:46Speaker 1: it had been going on for a couple of weeks.
- 6:47Speaker 1: When we got there, we just everything was broken and
- 6:49Speaker 1: smashed and it was crazy. This does not sound like
- 6:53Speaker 1: a good time. It was anarchy.
- 6:55Speaker 2: I'm I would not be surprised if more and more
- 6:59Speaker 2: city these didn't do what Miami did. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 7:03Speaker 2: that may have been like a triple negative. I apologize
- 7:06Speaker 2: for that sentence. My point is more cities will be
- 7:08Speaker 2: doing what Miami. Did they have to? I remember, particularly
- 7:12Speaker 2: because and this is undeniable. This is not an old
- 7:14Speaker 2: man yelling at clouds. Again, I'm a guy will get
- 7:16Speaker 2: hammered on a Tuesday night. I don't judge, but in general,
- 7:21Speaker 2: lawlessness is way up. The feeling of I don't have
- 7:26Speaker 2: to follow your rules is way up, gun possession way
- 7:30Speaker 2: up among the young, particularly some demographic groups. It's just
- 7:35Speaker 2: it's gotten to the point that, again, if this happened
- 7:40Speaker 2: to a city, it's not like it's not some good
- 7:45Speaker 2: some bad.
- 7:45Speaker 1: No, it's a nightmare. I remember thinking at the time, like,
- 7:51Speaker 1: did they come out ahead on this? So having every
- 7:53Speaker 1: room booked every night for three weeks, it's still you
- 7:57Speaker 1: come out ahead. Haven't replaced all these fixtures and windows
- 8:01Speaker 1: and everything like that doesn't even seem like possible. What
- 8:03Speaker 1: turns out, I guess you don't. Here's my best story, though, Katie.
- 8:07Speaker 1: This okay. So I had a girlfriend when I went
- 8:11Speaker 1: off to spring break. She was really worried about my behavior,
- 8:14Speaker 1: but I was I was a good guy. So this
- 8:16Speaker 1: really cute girl hit on me at spring break, like
- 8:20Speaker 1: asked me out, Like we went on a kind of
- 8:23Speaker 1: a It wasn't really a date. But we met for
- 8:25Speaker 1: drinks somewhere. It was pretty clear what she was up to,
- 8:28Speaker 1: and I just say, I like, okay, i'll see you later.
- 8:31Speaker 1: She ended up with some other guy and they ended
- 8:33Speaker 1: up making out the entire thirty two hour drive back
- 8:36Speaker 1: in the bus and everything like that. I passed it,
- 8:38Speaker 1: and I ended up breaking up with my girlfriend like
- 8:40Speaker 1: a week later, like a week after I got back.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I passed up that situation. Dad, I've always wondered why
- 8:48Speaker 1: I did that.
- 8:49Speaker 3: So okay, I'm I'm so she hit on you. You
- 8:55Speaker 3: didn't go with it.
- 8:56Speaker 1: So she was wanting to have well she was she.
- 8:58Speaker 1: I mean they ended up dating. She wanted to she
- 9:01Speaker 1: wanted to find a boyfriend. She was actually looking for
- 9:03Speaker 1: a boyfriend, not just a hookup. And I, yeah, I
- 9:07Speaker 1: turned her down.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Sounds like she wasn't setting much of a bar if
- 9:10Speaker 3: she was just jumping around from this bus.
- 9:12Speaker 1: What you're saying, no, not you, I'm saying, jumping around
- 9:14Speaker 1: on the bus.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Yeah, Jack, maybe that's not what she is saying. That's
- 9:17Speaker 2: what I'm saying, Janius.
- 9:23Speaker 3: She Well, I'm sorry, Jack. That sounds like that sucks.
- 9:29Speaker 3: That old trip sounds like it sucked actually from start.
- 9:31Speaker 1: I don't know, it's pretty damn drunk. I uh, I
- 9:35Speaker 1: was pretty drunk for a long time. I remember. By
- 9:37Speaker 1: the end of the week, though, everybody was like, I
- 9:40Speaker 1: just don't think I can do this any longer. And
- 9:42Speaker 1: this is among twenty year olds. Everybody's just like, I can't.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I can't go to another party. I can't. We got
- 9:49Speaker 1: to get home.
- 9:51Speaker 2: That's a been made for that.
- 9:53Speaker 1: And I was so poor, and the guys I was
- 9:56Speaker 1: hanging out with, we were all really poor. So we
- 9:57Speaker 1: were drinking like Schaefers light, you know, like you know,
- 10:02Speaker 1: five dollars a case beer, like really cheap stuff. And
- 10:04Speaker 1: we couldn't afford to go to bars and drink like
- 10:07Speaker 1: real drinks like some people were doing.
- 10:09Speaker 2: We have bar have beer brands that they couldn't even
- 10:12Speaker 2: afford rat filters in their their manufacturing plants, so they
- 10:17Speaker 2: didn't bother to filter the hair out of there or anything.
- 10:19Speaker 1: No.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Oh God, natural Ice tried to send me to my
- 10:22Speaker 3: maker a long time ago.
- 10:24Speaker 1: But like the other people that had money, they were
- 10:26Speaker 1: buying drinks on the beach at the bars and stuff
- 10:28Speaker 1: like that. But this suff is way too expensive for me,
- 10:30Speaker 1: so me and a couple other guys. We'd walk blocks
- 10:33Speaker 1: from our hotel to some crappy convenience store to buy
- 10:36Speaker 1: cases of this cheap beer and lug it back to
- 10:38Speaker 1: the hotel room, and it would just Yeah, you can
- 10:40Speaker 1: only drink so much of that stuff before it's like,
- 10:42Speaker 1: I don't know if I can hammer down another one
- 10:46Speaker 1: of these. So funny hearing these stories. It's like a
- 10:48Speaker 1: survival story, like the Navy seal training, if the point
- 10:53Speaker 1: of being a Navy Seal was being able to overcome hangovers. Yeah.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Again, it seems like it's something that happened to you
- 10:59Speaker 2: as a.
- 11:01Speaker 1: A vacation and I only had to pay twohundred bucks
- 11:03Speaker 1: for the pleasure for this, Yeah something. It's quite the
- 11:09Speaker 1: experience of going. I'm glad I saw it because I
- 11:11Speaker 1: know what that environment is and it's crazy, just nuts
- 11:17Speaker 1: mixing guns. Yeah, that's something that didn't exist. I never
- 11:21Speaker 1: saw any gun play or knife play or anything like that.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Well, we were thinking of talking about something else, but
- 11:27Speaker 2: that'll do. I'm too tired from Jack's story to you can.
- 11:30Speaker 1: I think if I smelled the Shaper's light or whatever
- 11:32Speaker 1: that was we were drinking, I think I would vomit
- 11:35Speaker 1: right now on the spot.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Is that very even legal in all fifty states?
- 11:40Speaker 1: Right? Well, I guess that's it.
- 11:45Speaker 3: Oh my god, even thinking about it, it's making me.
- 11:48Speaker 1: I had like fifty bucks spending money for an entire week.
- 11:52Speaker 1: I had direction pretty carefully.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Wow.
- 11:55Speaker 3: I would have waited for the bus to slow down
- 11:57Speaker 3: at some point, just jumped off, even if I broke
- 11:59Speaker 3: a leg.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Oh, got it worth? The bathroom in that bus By
- 12:02Speaker 1: the time we got to Miami, Holy crap, how are
- 12:05Speaker 1: they doing me? It was just sloshing over the sides
- 12:09Speaker 1: and
