- 0:22Speaker 2: All right, hey, you know something. These are my closure
- 0:26Speaker 2: remarks today. I've discovered a lot over the years, and
- 0:32Speaker 2: there are some things you can make it without in
- 0:34Speaker 2: this world. It really is. I really didn't understand how
- 0:40Speaker 2: significant certain relationships work. But I'm old enough now and
- 0:45Speaker 2: a lot of you are where you can relate to
- 0:46Speaker 2: what I'm about to say. You can live your life.
- 0:51Speaker 2: You can lose some really really important things in your
- 0:54Speaker 2: life and survive. And all of us know that of
- 1:00Speaker 2: losing someone that you cared deeply about, whether you lose
- 1:05Speaker 2: him because you all just were separate ways, or you
- 1:07Speaker 2: lose him because they passed. But we know the pain
- 1:12Speaker 2: of losing someone you loved dearly. And I've discovered something
- 1:16Speaker 2: in my life. The greatest loss I ever had was
- 1:19Speaker 2: my mother. It was an unbearable pain for me. I
- 1:25Speaker 2: had never experienced anything like it and haven't experienced anything
- 1:30Speaker 2: like it since then. When I lost my father, that
- 1:33Speaker 2: was a pain. My mother's pain was first, though, and
- 1:37Speaker 2: it was just excruciating. I didn't know what to do.
- 1:42Speaker 2: I've lost my father, and then I lost my oldest brother.
- 1:48Speaker 2: That would really hurt me in a different way because
- 1:51Speaker 2: he had taught me everything. He taught me how to drive,
- 1:55Speaker 2: he taught me how to ride a bike, because he
- 1:57Speaker 2: did stuff because he was so much older than me
- 2:00Speaker 2: that my father allowed him to do. My father taught
- 2:03Speaker 2: me how to drive, but my brother taught me how
- 2:06Speaker 2: to you know, pimp drive. But he taught me how
- 2:10Speaker 2: to ride a bike. He taught me how to talk
- 2:12Speaker 2: to girls, taught me how to save money. So that
- 2:16Speaker 2: loss was tragic. And I've lost a lot of things
- 2:20Speaker 2: in this and I've learned to live my life without
- 2:24Speaker 2: all of them. But the one thing that you cannot
- 2:30Speaker 2: live your life without, and that is a friend. You
- 2:35Speaker 2: can lose your mother, you can lose your brother, you
- 2:37Speaker 2: can lose your father, you can lose your job, you
- 2:42Speaker 2: can lose your wife, you can lose your husband who
- 2:47Speaker 2: and these things can be debilitating and you can live
- 2:52Speaker 2: in this world without them, but you cannot live in
- 2:56Speaker 2: this world without a friend. You know, the Bible says
- 3:00Speaker 2: a friend is often closer than even a brother, because see,
- 3:05Speaker 2: your friends you pick and choose. Your family is just
- 3:09Speaker 2: your family. Now, I loved my brothers, dearly man Flaws
- 3:13Speaker 2: and all. I loved him, But losing a friend. I've
- 3:21Speaker 2: lost some really dear friends. Wan Hull was a truly
- 3:27Speaker 2: great friend of mine that I lost. Greg Calhoun out
- 3:31Speaker 2: of Montgomery was the last, well not the last friend,
- 3:35Speaker 2: but a great friend that I lost. He was my
- 3:37Speaker 2: best friend. And then I lost my dear friend Flip Bass,
- 3:43Speaker 2: who was a founder of our chapter at Kent State.
- 3:48Speaker 2: And losing them three men right there, man was really
- 3:50Speaker 2: really rough because they were dear to me. But I
- 3:54Speaker 2: thank God for the friendships that I do have, because
- 3:59Speaker 2: there is something to it, man, to have a friend.
- 4:02Speaker 2: I look at all that I have. I look at
- 4:04Speaker 2: the awards and accomplishments and plaques and all this stuff
- 4:08Speaker 2: I have. But you know what I value more than
- 4:11Speaker 2: all of those awards that I've gotten and everything. I
- 4:15Speaker 2: value friendship more than that, because friendships give a return,
- 4:21Speaker 2: a constant return. Somebody you can share your thoughts with man,
- 4:26Speaker 2: somebody that you can be yourself with, Somebody that you
- 4:29Speaker 2: can sit around and they don't judge you. Somebody that
- 4:31Speaker 2: you can be around and they allow you to be
- 4:34Speaker 2: just exactly who you are, however and whenever and however
- 4:39Speaker 2: you want to present yourself at that time, and you
- 4:42Speaker 2: need that man, because if you think about your work relationships,
- 4:47Speaker 2: you have to put on to come to work. Oftentimes
- 4:49Speaker 2: we do. We got to get up in the morning,
- 4:52Speaker 2: no matter how we feel, and we got to put
- 4:54Speaker 2: on a happy face because we morn and drive people.
- 4:57Speaker 2: We've got to get up and put on the wheel
- 5:00Speaker 2: today face because we are responsible for millions and millions
- 5:05Speaker 2: of people's attitude on the way to work. We morn
- 5:08Speaker 2: and drive people in some days we don't feel like
- 5:11Speaker 2: driving all morning, but we got to come up in here.
- 5:14Speaker 2: We got to be a certain way you at work, Man,
- 5:16Speaker 2: you have to put on ass You got to put
- 5:18Speaker 2: on a different mask to go to work. You know,
- 5:21Speaker 2: you got to fake the funk in front of them people.
- 5:23Speaker 2: You know, when you get in your department, you got
- 5:25Speaker 2: to put on that I'm the cheerful employee mask when
- 5:30Speaker 2: you don't be feeling them at all. You got to
- 5:33Speaker 2: go to lunch with them and sit next to them
- 5:34Speaker 2: in the cafeteria and pretend that they are right when
- 5:37Speaker 2: you when they really ain't even your type of people.
- 5:41Speaker 2: That's why you can't wait to get off so you
- 5:42Speaker 2: can just go be yourself again, because at work you can't.
- 5:46Speaker 2: So if you have a friend, or several friends, or
- 5:48Speaker 2: a few where you can sit around and be your
- 5:51Speaker 2: natural self, that's valuable. Man Cherish your friendships because when
- 5:58Speaker 2: you lose them, it's not a good day. Somebody once
- 6:01Speaker 2: told me that friendship is essential to the soul. I
- 6:07Speaker 2: think that's a stop anyway, y'all have a great day. Y'all.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Talk to God.
- 6:17Speaker 2: He love to hear from you.
