- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to a DM podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 2: We'll try to keep it as nice as we can,
- 0:05Speaker 2: but you might hear the occasional swear word in No Dribble.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Don't tell them. Hello, and welcome to this week's episode
- 0:22Speaker 1: of No Dribble. It's a bit of an Easter episode
- 0:25Speaker 1: this week, so Cox is having a little bit of
- 0:27Speaker 1: a well earned rest. Carolyn. Look, I'm a little bit
- 0:30Speaker 1: concerned about Carolyn because it's Easter, which is you know,
- 0:34Speaker 1: it means the Easter Bunny is busy. And it also
- 0:37Speaker 1: means that given that as chocolate and Easter, and Carolyn's
- 0:43Speaker 1: in Switzerland, and I think that means it's the home
- 0:46Speaker 1: of Swiss chocolates. I don't know if she's drowned in
- 0:49Speaker 1: an avalanche of chocolate. I don't know if the Easter
- 0:51Speaker 1: Bunny is kidnapped her. But that laugh you can hear
- 0:54Speaker 1: happily means that I am not by myself. That love
- 0:57Speaker 1: is a very good friend of the podcast Guardian in
- 1:01Speaker 1: the wind Yay. It's a podcast you didn't know you
- 1:05Speaker 1: needed it, Susan and Elizabeth. Can you imagine I was
- 1:08Speaker 1: just thinking imagine though, like if there was I'm not
- 1:10Speaker 1: here Cox, He's not here. Carolyn's drowning in chocolate, Swiss chocolate.
- 1:15Speaker 1: This is just the Lizzalis podcast. I mean, actually, okay,
- 1:22Speaker 1: let's face it. I've muted Carolyn and I've muted Catherine,
- 1:25Speaker 1: and now it's just all about me, which is what
- 1:27Speaker 1: I wanted. It's two thirty in the morning, where Carolyn
- 1:31Speaker 1: is and actually I can see her, she's logged in,
- 1:34Speaker 1: but I don't think we can hear her. So Carolyn, nah,
- 1:37Speaker 1: I know you face nah. And so this is good.
- 1:40Speaker 1: This is proof of life ladies and gentlemen. I know
- 1:43Speaker 1: you guys can't see it because you're listening and this
- 1:45Speaker 1: is this is an audio and haven't we started Well?
- 1:48Speaker 1: So I know that Carolyn, she can hear us, she
- 1:52Speaker 1: can see us, but we cannot hear her. So Carolyn,
- 1:55Speaker 1: I'm going to say to you, go back to bed. Yeah,
- 1:58Speaker 1: I think so, you poor thing. Yeah, so she's shrugging.
- 2:01Speaker 1: So anyway, this is what I've always wanted. Season. We've
- 2:04Speaker 1: got all of the dribblers to ourselves. It's just you
- 2:06Speaker 1: and me having internet. You've had a bit of big
- 2:10Speaker 1: news recently, what's going on in your life? I have
- 2:12Speaker 1: had a big, big, big, big big bit of news
- 2:15Speaker 1: news that was probably well news for the public, but
- 2:18Speaker 1: not for me. So finishing up in my g well,
- 2:21Speaker 1: one of my roles here at West Coast Fever is
- 2:23Speaker 1: general manager, so that will finish at the end of
- 2:26Speaker 1: this season. I'll see the SSN season out, which is good,
- 2:29Speaker 1: and then I don't know what I'll do, Elizabeth. But yeah, look,
- 2:33Speaker 1: I've known about it for ages. I to be honest
- 2:35Speaker 1: with you, even go back last season. I was sort
- 2:37Speaker 1: of umming and a ring about it, but I hung
- 2:40Speaker 1: in there. And then I spoke with the club the
- 2:42Speaker 1: end of last season and said, wanted to make sure
- 2:44Speaker 1: that they had enough notice that you know, they could.
- 2:48Speaker 1: You know, it's not like running out the door because
- 2:49Speaker 1: these roles are really hard to find, to get the
- 2:52Speaker 1: right person at the club, et cetera, et cetera.
- 2:54Speaker 3: So I wanted to make sure they were given enough time.
- 2:56Speaker 1: And hopefully that's the case and hopefully we'll land on
- 2:58Speaker 1: someone really exciting to take the club forward. But energy no,
- 3:03Speaker 1: I was about to say, you've been given this thought
- 3:06Speaker 1: for a while, and you and I, frankly had had
- 3:08Speaker 1: a conversation about it a little while ago. So for
- 3:11Speaker 1: those of us class to you, it wasn't a surprise
- 3:13Speaker 1: to us either. But talk us through when you say
- 3:15Speaker 1: you don't have enough energy, talk us through what it
- 3:18Speaker 1: has doing the three roles commentary. You're a specialist coach,
- 3:24Speaker 1: you're the general manager of Fever. Talk us through the
- 3:27Speaker 1: pressures inherent in those roles, and he's part of the
- 3:29Speaker 1: sapping of the energy about just managing the conflicts or
- 3:33Speaker 1: the perceived conflicts in those roles as well. Look, I
- 3:36Speaker 1: think I think the zapping of the energy is the
- 3:38Speaker 1: person that I am. I don't know that it's the
- 3:41Speaker 1: roles or the three roles. It's just the sort of
- 3:43Speaker 1: character that I am, which is I do everything flatchat
- 3:46Speaker 1: one hundred percent, you know, fully invested hard on my sleeve.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Most people know I bleed green. I love the club,
- 3:54Speaker 1: and you know that that takes its toll before you
- 3:57Speaker 1: even step into any of the roles. So the GM
- 4:01Speaker 1: role is in, to be honest with you, I could
- 4:03Speaker 1: go on in this role, but I feel like the
- 4:06Speaker 1: way in which I've described it to the board and
- 4:08Speaker 1: the CEO here and then to the playing group and
- 4:11Speaker 1: the staff was that I think the club's in a
- 4:13Speaker 1: really good position. We've worked really hard over the last
- 4:15Speaker 1: four or five years and we've evolved.
- 4:18Speaker 3: I'm really proud of where the club's at.
- 4:20Speaker 1: But I've also got vision about where I think it
- 4:22Speaker 1: needs to go, and I'm excited about that. But I'm
- 4:26Speaker 1: not convinced that my energy matches that vision, and therefore
- 4:30Speaker 1: that's an injustice.
- 4:31Speaker 3: To the club.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Someone else needs to come in and with their own vision,
- 4:35Speaker 1: but hopefully certainly in the handover what I sort of
- 4:38Speaker 1: will leave behind and then you know, potentially have that
- 4:41Speaker 1: sort of energy to drive the club to that next level.
- 4:44Speaker 1: And that's great, and I'm excited, and I think that,
- 4:47Speaker 1: you know, if we can get the right person, then
- 4:49Speaker 1: the club takes another big step over the next four
- 4:52Speaker 1: or five years. So that's mostly the reason behind it.
- 4:56Speaker 1: As I said to you, I think last time we spoke,
- 4:58Speaker 1: commentary for me is a blessings.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Actually like enjoy it. It's like a bit of fun.
- 5:01Speaker 3: So I don't find that at.
- 5:02Speaker 1: All stres stressful the perceived conflict. Like I said, I
- 5:06Speaker 1: commentate a game, I don't even really think about fever
- 5:08Speaker 1: when I'm commentating them. I'm just commentating the game because
- 5:12Speaker 1: of you know, the passion I have behind that role
- 5:15Speaker 1: and the coaching the coaching is different.
- 5:17Speaker 3: That's my bread and butter. That's sort of who I
- 5:19Speaker 3: am as a person.
- 5:20Speaker 1: And I'll go back to doing that with Fever next
- 5:23Speaker 1: season in a bit more of a role than I
- 5:26Speaker 1: am currently at the moment, and that'll be fun too.
- 5:28Speaker 1: So and then the rest is whatever happens happens. I
- 5:30Speaker 1: don't know. I'm excited. It'll be a bit exciting. The
- 5:33Speaker 1: Beautiful Rose must be happy. She's going to get you
- 5:35Speaker 1: at home a bit more now. The Beautiful Rose is frightened.
- 5:42Speaker 1: The beautiful the beautiful Rose, I think is shitting herself
- 5:45Speaker 1: at what Sue Gordion being in the house twenty four
- 5:48Speaker 1: to seven potentially looks like. Because I think the Beautiful Rose,
- 5:52Speaker 1: it's got a great lifestyle. She does. Yeah, yeah, I
- 5:56Speaker 1: want to sit in the box at Fever games and
- 5:58Speaker 1: I want to have a great holiday lifestyle. Look, she's
- 6:01Speaker 1: a ripper and she she has been very much on
- 6:06Speaker 1: this journey of decision making with me. She can see
- 6:08Speaker 1: the stresses and I think she thinks I need a
- 6:11Speaker 1: bit of breathing space before and her words exactly where
- 6:14Speaker 1: it won't last long, like it'll be you know, you
- 6:17Speaker 1: hit your head will clear and then you'll get bored
- 6:19Speaker 1: and then you know, you'll create the centurions too, or
- 6:22Speaker 1: something like that, which was the last sort of midlife
- 6:25Speaker 1: crisis I had when I was thirty, if that's one
- 6:28Speaker 1: of a better word, when we did the show Lizzie.
- 6:30Speaker 1: But yeah, the brain's the brain's creative, but at the
- 6:33Speaker 1: moment it's a little clog, so it just needs some
- 6:35Speaker 1: breathing space. We might need to tell Rose though, that
- 6:38Speaker 1: if she posts something on Facebook and she blinks once,
- 6:41Speaker 1: she's safe, and if she blinks twice, we've got to
- 6:43Speaker 1: come and get her out of the house. I'll get
- 6:46Speaker 1: you out of the house, all right, She'll be fine. Oh, Carolyn,
- 6:51Speaker 1: good Switzerland, Hello Switzerland, coming. I feel like I need
- 6:56Speaker 1: to make the study study.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yes, I am, I'm so sorry. I don't know what's happened,
- 7:04Speaker 2: but I pressed some buttons and suddenly my voice is
- 7:08Speaker 2: healed from all of the yodlings. So and here I am.
- 7:11Speaker 2: I'm sorry, I'm late.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Look, did you see the easter bunny. We feel like
- 7:16Speaker 1: Switzerland might be the home of chocolate.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Well, the easter bunny came and came to this house
- 7:22Speaker 2: several times, and the Easter bunny has left some people
- 7:25Speaker 2: in his stead who need to go on a severe
- 7:28Speaker 2: chocolate cold Turkey.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Now, what's Switzerland like?
- 7:32Speaker 2: It's beautiful. It's exactly what you would expect. It's mountains
- 7:35Speaker 2: and lakes and it seems very efficient. We've had a
- 7:40Speaker 2: really nice few days here, and yesterday climbed a mountain.
- 7:43Speaker 2: A couple of days before that were rainy, but that
- 7:45Speaker 2: was that's sort of nice in the middle of a holiday.
- 7:47Speaker 2: It feels a bit less chaotic here than I like,
- 7:51Speaker 2: but it's been a really nice break. Just beautiful. But
- 7:54Speaker 2: oh my god, I wateringly expensive, so we're going to
- 7:58Speaker 2: have to We're off to Italy next which hopefully will
- 8:01Speaker 2: be a little bit more affordable. But man, just so
- 8:05Speaker 2: ridiculously beautiful, postcard beautiful. But yeah, I saw your big
- 8:09Speaker 2: news during the week. Congratulations.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Yeah. It's funny because everyone kept coming up to me
- 8:14Speaker 1: and saying, do you say congratulations for someone's job. I'm like, oh, well,
- 8:19Speaker 1: I'll take it, but yeah, no, no, it is. It
- 8:21Speaker 1: is nice. It's nice to have it out public, and yeah,
- 8:23Speaker 1: it's exciting. But life's the same business as usual, like
- 8:26Speaker 1: the same thing. I came in showered in the drug
- 8:29Speaker 1: shower this morning. No I didn't, But you go to that,
- 8:35Speaker 1: aren't you? What will you miss the most about your
- 8:38Speaker 1: time as general manager at West Coast Fever My solo
- 8:41Speaker 1: showers in the drug testing room. Hey, just quickly, speaking
- 8:47Speaker 1: of chocolate, have either a view either A heard or
- 8:51Speaker 1: B tried the Dubai chop. I've heard of it.
- 8:53Speaker 2: I've seen this.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Do you know what seen?
- 8:56Speaker 2: But yeah, maybe here I've seen it.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Okay, all right, so Rribbler's out there. If anyone has
- 9:03Speaker 1: heard or tried to this Dubai chocolate, jump on it.
- 9:06Speaker 1: So I'll just quickly tell you it's insane. I need
- 9:10Speaker 1: you all to go and look it up. It is
- 9:12Speaker 1: now consumed on my TikTok algorithms, so I am literally
- 9:17Speaker 1: every second feed is making Dubai chocolate eating Dubai chocolate.
- 9:23Speaker 1: It's unbelievable, to the point that to last week I
- 9:28Speaker 1: looked up as to whether or not it had hit
- 9:30Speaker 1: the West Australian shops anywhere. I found one singular shop
- 9:35Speaker 1: in Perth which was in the middle of nowhere. So
- 9:37Speaker 1: I drove my car there to a shopping center which
- 9:39Speaker 1: theoretically I thought should be knocked down. That's how bad
- 9:43Speaker 1: it was. And walked into a little Arabic pastry place
- 9:49Speaker 1: with a que a mile long. Everyone buying Dubai chocolate
- 9:54Speaker 1: twenty five dollars a bar, twenty five dollars a bar.
- 9:58Speaker 1: It's just the taste, the way it's made, it's just
- 10:01Speaker 1: the new like when you see it. It's made with
- 10:03Speaker 1: this sort of khalifi khalifi or something. I think it's
- 10:06Speaker 1: called like a patie, which is used in a lot
- 10:08Speaker 1: of Arabic sort of sweet. And then it's got pistachio
- 10:12Speaker 1: cream and at the moment there's a shortage of pistachios
- 10:15Speaker 1: in Australia because everybody's trying to buy this cream and
- 10:19Speaker 1: make it anyhow. And then it's just this chocolate and
- 10:21Speaker 1: when you bite it, it crunches the sand. It's just
- 10:25Speaker 1: like honestly insane, insane. So do yourself as a favor
- 10:30Speaker 1: Dubai Chocolate. I don't take any percentage cuts for this,
- 10:33Speaker 1: but it is This isn't a paid sponsorship, but it
- 10:36Speaker 1: is bloody. So I was listening to I was actually
- 10:40Speaker 1: watching the Swifts Thunderbirds game on Sunday, and Coxy within
- 10:47Speaker 1: about three minutes of the broadcast starting, I mentioned the
- 10:49Speaker 1: fruit shots, so I'm concerning Coxy. She's now pushing the
- 10:55Speaker 1: fruit shops. Gordy, you're pushing the You've gone very upmarket,
- 11:00Speaker 1: well at twenty five dollars a bar I have, I've
- 11:02Speaker 1: always seen.
- 11:03Speaker 2: My dream is to have a Gin sponsor for this podcast.
- 11:06Speaker 2: So please, could we stay focused on the objectives, like,
- 11:09Speaker 2: let's not get distracted.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Maybe you could count with a recipe using Gin and
- 11:15Speaker 1: Dubai chocolate. Oh my goodness.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Cat did ask me to thank Cassie who brought her
- 11:23Speaker 2: something that I'm not one hundred percent sold on. I've
- 11:26Speaker 2: got to say fruit chok hot cross buns. So Cassie
- 11:29Speaker 2: is one of the dribblers dropped over a packet to
- 11:31Speaker 2: caf fruit choc hot cross bunds. Now, I'm very much
- 11:34Speaker 2: a traditionalist on hot cross buns. I don't like chocolate
- 11:37Speaker 2: in my hot cross funds. I think I would even
- 11:40Speaker 2: less like fruit chocs in my hot cross bun. But
- 11:43Speaker 2: what a generous gesture. And I'm not saying that Coxy
- 11:46Speaker 2: has food poisoning Cassie, because all she did was ask
- 11:49Speaker 2: me to thank you for the hot cross bunds. No
- 11:51Speaker 2: Coxy is fune. She's having a day off, but Yeah,
- 11:54Speaker 2: she's very generous, lovely, lovely gesture, very seasonal on time.
- 12:00Speaker 2: So thanks, Cassie.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I'm with you. No chocolate in hot cross buns, No,
- 12:06Speaker 1: but I've also seen hot cross buns with no fruit
- 12:08Speaker 1: in them. We like, is that just not a bread roll? Yeah?
- 12:11Speaker 1: With the cross with a cross?
- 12:15Speaker 2: My children pick the cross off the hot cross bun.
- 12:18Speaker 2: I don't know why.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Wow what that's hot?
- 12:21Speaker 2: And there's something a little bit distasteful about It's like
- 12:24Speaker 2: an old band aid. It's like, forgot's sake, just eat
- 12:27Speaker 2: it or throw it in the Yeah. Actually, I saw
- 12:29Speaker 2: something very funny on Instagram the other day. It's like
- 12:32Speaker 2: and rang very true for me. Vacations are expensive, but
- 12:36Speaker 2: who can put a price on your children being ungrateful
- 12:39Speaker 2: in other countries?
- 12:42Speaker 1: And then my mate Ben said me, one soon, take
- 12:45Speaker 1: your kids.
- 12:45Speaker 2: On holidays, eat nuggets and chips in different places.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Yeah. Years ago we went to Vietnam, and I had
- 12:54Speaker 1: these visions of with my sister and her kids, of
- 12:58Speaker 1: taking the children out to the ice field. You can
- 13:00Speaker 1: go on these like food tours and on bikes and
- 13:03Speaker 1: you go out to the paddies and you taste different things.
- 13:06Speaker 1: And we did that and then Matthew got really really sick,
- 13:10Speaker 1: you know, And then I thought we'll just eat lots
- 13:13Speaker 1: of beautiful Vietnamese food. But I had a three year
- 13:16Speaker 1: old in Austin who was not interested in that, and
- 13:18Speaker 1: we just ate pizza and chips at all the places
- 13:22Speaker 1: around Hanoi and you know Ho Chi Minh, And yeah,
- 13:26Speaker 1: I know where all the all the pizza joints are
- 13:28Speaker 1: in Vietnam, don't you reckon? Hot chips are a universal
- 13:31Speaker 1: language everywhere you go for children, well even adults at
- 13:35Speaker 1: some stage, hot chips and pizza. So yeah, I know
- 13:38Speaker 1: children they wreck everything, don't they Lucky? We love them.
- 13:41Speaker 2: I'm off to Naples today, which is the birthplace.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Of all So yeah, I was just going to say,
- 13:46Speaker 1: how fatty you going to get over the next few days?
- 13:48Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it's well, this is we are making. We're
- 13:51Speaker 2: walking about fifteen k's a day, so the kids think
- 13:54Speaker 2: this is like the Kakoda track just in Europe that
- 13:57Speaker 2: we're just inside. Is this Solida?
- 14:00Speaker 1: Please?
- 14:00Speaker 2: Can we sit there and have a chocolate?
- 14:02Speaker 1: Anyway, I've got a challenge for you in Italy.
- 14:05Speaker 2: What's that?
- 14:06Speaker 1: How many days are you there for?
- 14:08Speaker 2: Only?
- 14:09Speaker 3: Oh? It's an easy challenge.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Then every day you must have gelato every day. Okay,
- 14:15Speaker 1: I think that Italy's a sacrilegious hold the tape if
- 14:17Speaker 1: you don't have a gelato every day.
- 14:19Speaker 2: I accept this challenge. I believe I can rise to
- 14:22Speaker 2: the challenge. I may even exceed your expectations.
- 14:25Speaker 1: And I will throw in a double yeah.
- 14:28Speaker 2: But could be interesting in Rome this week. So we're
- 14:32Speaker 2: just sort of like, look, who knows what's going to happen.
- 14:34Speaker 2: We're fully expecting everything to get canceled on us and
- 14:37Speaker 2: we have to come up with a plan B.
- 14:39Speaker 1: But do you think you'll get to put a vote
- 14:40Speaker 1: in for the new pope if you thought about who
- 14:42Speaker 1: you'd want.
- 14:43Speaker 2: I've got my red on, I've got part of my
- 14:46Speaker 2: cardinal read. Although that's a little bit more about about this,
- 14:51Speaker 2: because Liz, you might be Swiftzerland, but I am all
- 14:54Speaker 2: about the Swifts. How good was that game?
- 14:59Speaker 1: Amazing? So in the first quarter I thought, wow, I
- 15:02Speaker 1: didn't see Thunderbirds winning this by forty, but that's what
- 15:05Speaker 1: it looked like. And just the swings of the swings
- 15:09Speaker 1: of them mean term. The way that the Thunderbirds opened
- 15:15Speaker 1: was amazing. But then the way that the Swifts just
- 15:17Speaker 1: pegged them back. Just an extraordinary game. It was just
- 15:22Speaker 1: I say extraordinary because I'm so used to commentating with
- 15:25Speaker 1: Susan who loves the word extraordinary, extraordinary just like it was.
- 15:30Speaker 1: It was such a great game to watch. But I
- 15:32Speaker 1: walked away going, I don't quite know how I would
- 15:34Speaker 1: analyze that game. You know what I reckon was most interesting?
- 15:36Speaker 1: You would have loved it, so I actually, I mean
- 15:38Speaker 1: and it was. She was the MVP, but O'shannessy's courage
- 15:44Speaker 1: when she came on the court, and I would say
- 15:45Speaker 1: that courage was led by direction from Dylan next A,
- 15:50Speaker 1: the assistant coach.
- 15:51Speaker 3: Without a doubt that that was the game change.
- 15:53Speaker 1: And because if you looked at the first half, the
- 15:57Speaker 1: way that the Thunderbirds were confident to release ball off
- 16:03Speaker 1: circle edge into Ramelda right was the difference. Swifts couldn't
- 16:07Speaker 1: get a look at it. O'shannessy came on and hunted
- 16:12Speaker 1: any ball that was off circle edge, which completely will
- 16:15Speaker 1: beyond that, she got six intercepts doing it, but beyond
- 16:18Speaker 1: that just completely shut down the way the Thunderbirds were
- 16:21Speaker 1: attacking the circle. That had to throw more ball around,
- 16:23Speaker 1: and that just played into the Swift's hands. So it
- 16:26Speaker 1: was just such a tactical mastery that game of two halves.
- 16:30Speaker 1: But the Swift's the better for it because the way
- 16:33Speaker 1: in which they defensively attack the game. And you're right,
- 16:37Speaker 1: it is such a risk. So you know, when you're
- 16:39Speaker 1: growing up as a goalkeeper, you continually get told to
- 16:42Speaker 1: watch the post. You've got to watch the post, You've
- 16:44Speaker 1: got to make sure you take care of the shooter.
- 16:46Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, you know what
- 16:49Speaker 1: ramelder Aken's going to do, and that is she's going
- 16:51Speaker 1: to absolutely toast you. If the ball gets to the
- 16:53Speaker 1: edge of the circle, you can't do anything about that.
- 16:56Speaker 1: So you have to take the risks to try and
- 16:57Speaker 1: get the ball when it's outside the circle. If you
- 17:00Speaker 1: sit back and wait, you just end up as the
- 17:02Speaker 1: bunny on the highlights through or right. There's not much
- 17:04Speaker 1: you can do about it.
- 17:06Speaker 2: I just I was astonished by this stat. So Swift's
- 17:09Speaker 2: goals from gains one hundred percent, Thunderbirds goals from gains
- 17:12Speaker 2: forty percent. It was just it was just just such
- 17:16Speaker 2: an interesting game for like you, Liz, I was like,
- 17:18Speaker 2: I don't know, if you know, if I want to
- 17:19Speaker 2: watch the rest.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Of this three.
- 17:20Speaker 2: This looks a little bit sad, but integrity made me
- 17:23Speaker 2: do it. But then to just see them be able
- 17:25Speaker 2: to turn this stuff around and go what happened? What
- 17:27Speaker 2: did Briany say to them, like, it's just you know,
- 17:30Speaker 2: I thought that was a master stroke of mental control
- 17:34Speaker 2: from the players and the coaches that it's like, don't panic,
- 17:37Speaker 2: We've got plenty of game time left and swing it around.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Yeah, they they found a way. They're the first Well,
- 17:42Speaker 1: when I say the first team, we shouldn't take anything
- 17:45Speaker 1: away from the Lightning. The Lightning have been the team
- 17:47Speaker 1: to break the Thunderbirds historically in the way that Carra
- 17:51Speaker 1: Conen and Steph Fretwell have sort of managed the circle.
- 17:55Speaker 1: But this is the first team in some time outside
- 17:58Speaker 1: of the Lightning that's found way to break down the
- 18:00Speaker 1: Thunderbird's defense. So little one what OSHANNESSU is doing it
- 18:04Speaker 1: at home? So I think, you know, Sterling Humphrey looked quiet.
- 18:09Speaker 1: She played behind for a good portion of the game,
- 18:11Speaker 1: which is not really kind of her bread and butter.
- 18:16Speaker 1: So yeah, I don't know.
- 18:17Speaker 3: I reckon there's news coming out of that camp soon.
- 18:19Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 18:20Speaker 3: She just didn't look right, So.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Did you think that, Yeah, she looked only in moments invested.
- 18:26Speaker 1: I don't know. And then yeah, I just thought that
- 18:29Speaker 1: Wecky was an interesting one. I thought she looked seriously
- 18:33Speaker 1: under pressure in the first part of the game, which
- 18:35Speaker 1: we're all waiting to see, what does Wecky look like
- 18:37Speaker 1: under pressure? But then she she went from under pressure
- 18:41Speaker 1: to looking just confident and elite, didn't she like? Not
- 18:45Speaker 1: long after that. So both teams showing though that you know,
- 18:48Speaker 1: if you can hold pressure on them, they are beatable.
- 18:50Speaker 1: But you know, there's still two sides for me that
- 18:53Speaker 1: can be at.
- 18:54Speaker 3: The pointy end of this season without a doubt.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Yeah you think that, wouldn't you? And not? The other
- 18:58Speaker 1: game was so before we get to the other game
- 19:00Speaker 1: on the weekend, Worth pointing out that Ramelda Aiken George
- 19:04Speaker 1: played a new record of two hundred and thirty three
- 19:06Speaker 1: games and makes her the most cap player for ain
- 19:10Speaker 1: ZED Champs and super Netball. But I've got a little
- 19:13Speaker 1: note here from Coxy who said that that doesn't include
- 19:16Speaker 1: any National League games prior to that. So Ramelda's been
- 19:20Speaker 1: here from the start of the ayin ZED Champs, hasn't she.
- 19:23Speaker 1: So that's when she started to sort of clock up
- 19:26Speaker 1: her games, and Ramelda beat Jeeva Mentor's record, but Jeeva
- 19:30Speaker 1: started playing National League seven years before Romelda in the UK,
- 19:34Speaker 1: and actually Jeeva's still playing there, so and there's probably,
- 19:38Speaker 1: you know, things a little bit from Coxy. My record
- 19:40Speaker 1: across National Netball League is still greater than Ramelda's because
- 19:43Speaker 1: I played CBT so the old Commonwealth Bank Trophy. If
- 19:47Speaker 1: you take Catherine's into that, then, like I say, we've
- 19:52Speaker 1: probably got to do a bit more work on standardizing
- 19:54Speaker 1: all of these records. But having said that, Ramelda has
- 19:57Speaker 1: been bloody amazing to start at the started the A
- 20:00Speaker 1: and Z chance, which was what two thousand and eight,
- 20:03Speaker 1: and she's still here and still creating headaches seventeen years later. Phenomenal. Yeah, insane,
- 20:09Speaker 1: And her emotion at the end of the game I
- 20:11Speaker 1: think was just indicative of how much it meant to
- 20:15Speaker 1: her and probably how much it's taken out of her
- 20:18Speaker 1: as well.
- 20:18Speaker 3: I thought she looked fairly tired at the end of
- 20:20Speaker 3: that game.
- 20:21Speaker 1: I think she's potentially managing an injury that that's a
- 20:25Speaker 1: little worse than what we're maybe giving her credit for,
- 20:28Speaker 1: or that we're supposed to know about, because then just
- 20:31Speaker 1: looked at she tweeked it early in the game, and
- 20:33Speaker 1: it looked ginger there.
- 20:34Speaker 3: After, So I don't know how she's going on that.
- 20:36Speaker 1: I just want to come back to that though. It's
- 20:37Speaker 1: really interesting. I think as a sport we've got to
- 20:39Speaker 1: get really clear around these milestones because we're modern day game.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I mean with CBT, the modern era potentially, yes, but
- 20:48Speaker 1: I think we're talking about the salary cap era, which
- 20:51Speaker 1: is the A and Z Championship and then sort of
- 20:54Speaker 1: the SSN. I think that's kind of where this milestone
- 20:58Speaker 1: comes from. But you know, I guess as commentators of
- 21:01Speaker 1: the sport when you live Cath myself like, we've got
- 21:06Speaker 1: to kind of really be clear as a sport. I
- 21:08Speaker 1: think the sport's got to be because otherwise we end
- 21:10Speaker 1: up with really confused messages. And I think it's great.
- 21:12Speaker 1: I think she's nailed it, but I find at times
- 21:15Speaker 1: in commentary when we're talking about milestones, it's one hundred
- 21:18Speaker 1: for the club, it's one hundred for the league, it's
- 21:20Speaker 1: one hundred in National League games, it's one hundred of
- 21:22Speaker 1: this like we have. We're not like the AFL where
- 21:25Speaker 1: it was sort of vfl AFL. You know, like it's
- 21:27Speaker 1: kind of been CBT, it was the Mobile League CBT
- 21:31Speaker 1: a n Z now SSN. So what does our history
- 21:35Speaker 1: books need to look like and read and how are
- 21:38Speaker 1: we making sure that our fandoms understand this and our
- 21:43Speaker 1: players as well and our players. So it's absolutely and
- 21:45Speaker 1: then if per chance more Silver Fans players or or
- 21:50Speaker 1: Kiwi players come into the league, we've got to understand
- 21:53Speaker 1: that their system is what they count. Like, you want
- 21:56Speaker 1: to make sure that someone might Jeeva Mental, you're able
- 21:58Speaker 1: to sort of take into account everything that she's done
- 22:01Speaker 1: over her incredible career and the fact that she's still
- 22:04Speaker 1: playing is just mind blowing. So you want to make
- 22:07Speaker 1: sure that you can recognize players and you also need
- 22:11Speaker 1: to make sure that you protect the integrity of the
- 22:13Speaker 1: players who have gone before in terms of their numbers.
- 22:16Speaker 1: So yeah, it is interesting though it does make for
- 22:19Speaker 1: a good discussion though, like over you know, who's the greatest?
- 22:21Speaker 1: You know. The other thing that was interesting on the
- 22:23Speaker 1: weekend was that Page Hadley became the second most capped
- 22:26Speaker 1: Swift and she's done that for one club.
- 22:29Speaker 2: I was wondering whether you were going to challenge this.
- 22:33Speaker 1: I'm well beaten in the third place on that one
- 22:35Speaker 1: and she's coming for Coxy, So yeah, I think it's
- 22:40Speaker 1: I love the fact that we can talk. You can
- 22:42Speaker 1: talk cross clubs. I would love for us to be
- 22:44Speaker 1: able to talk cross leagues in terms of the numbers
- 22:47Speaker 1: that we talk about, because we have some phenomenal players
- 22:50Speaker 1: and we want to make sure that we absolutely celebrate
- 22:53Speaker 1: and make a massive deal out of achievements like this.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I think the most important thing, Liz is at least
- 22:58Speaker 1: the sport now is in a vastly better place, employing
- 23:03Speaker 1: people with real nous to get the number of games
- 23:06Speaker 1: correctors to those that used to do it for the
- 23:08Speaker 1: likes of Vicki Wilson historically and got the numbers wrong.
- 23:12Speaker 1: That was me sent Vicky out on ninety nine and
- 23:20Speaker 1: she had one hundred and what four? I know, but
- 23:23Speaker 1: I didn't know. So can I just in defense of this,
- 23:26Speaker 1: can I just say I was working for I worked
- 23:30Speaker 1: for Netball Australia. This is back in like nineteen ninety
- 23:36Speaker 1: three or nineteen ninety two, like the summer of ninety two.
- 23:38Speaker 1: I was at UNI and Killye Devrey, who was in
- 23:41Speaker 1: the Diamonds. She was also the head of communications for
- 23:44Speaker 1: Netbaustralia and there was only about a staff of maybe
- 23:47Speaker 1: eight people or ten people, right, and they're in this
- 23:49Speaker 1: little office in Paramatta, which I go to now because
- 23:52Speaker 1: it's a cafe, right of course it is. That's amazing, right,
- 23:57Speaker 1: so I laugh. I said, oh, oh my god, this
- 24:00Speaker 1: meet Netball Australia's officers. Anyway, Keily gave me all this paperwork,
- 24:04Speaker 1: piles and piles of paperwork, and said can you go
- 24:07Speaker 1: through and count up everyone's test numbers? And I hadn't
- 24:10Speaker 1: made my debut there, so Susan I had no investment
- 24:13Speaker 1: in what the numbers were. And I went through and
- 24:16Speaker 1: I made a spreadsheet and I started to acountering on
- 24:18Speaker 1: the numbers. But the problem was you're relying on coaches
- 24:21Speaker 1: and managers bringing back score sheets from tours from the
- 24:25Speaker 1: fifties and the sixties. So I would try and marry
- 24:28Speaker 1: up like what the official records were with the test matches,
- 24:31Speaker 1: but then I would have to go chasing what like
- 24:34Speaker 1: the actual score sheets, which is phenomenal. You're hoping that
- 24:38Speaker 1: you know, Wilma Shakespeare, gay Tea, Joyce Brown, these women
- 24:41Speaker 1: who had coached Australia had somehow kept the school sheets,
- 24:45Speaker 1: and to their immense credit, most of them had, but
- 24:49Speaker 1: there must have. There would have been a couple of
- 24:51Speaker 1: games that I couldn't find the school sheets, and so
- 24:56Speaker 1: I just did it, and then about I think must have. Well,
- 25:00Speaker 1: it was nineteen ninety nine. Vicky played her last Test match,
- 25:03Speaker 1: so seven or eight years later, and I was in
- 25:06Speaker 1: the team by that. It was at the World Cup,
- 25:07Speaker 1: and we knew that if she were We knew at
- 25:09Speaker 1: the time, if she played every game with the World Cup,
- 25:12Speaker 1: she'd hit one hundred in that final, and unfortunately she
- 25:15Speaker 1: hit ninety ninety in that final. She didn't play every
- 25:17Speaker 1: game of that World Cup, and so she retired thinking
- 25:20Speaker 1: she was And I like, because Vicky is a great
- 25:25Speaker 1: friend of mine and I'm bloody a or her. But
- 25:27Speaker 1: then a few years later some more school sheets found
- 25:31Speaker 1: their way. Turned out the Big was the first player
- 25:35Speaker 1: to play one hundred Test matches and she'd retired on
- 25:38Speaker 1: one hundred and four. So then from everyone, it's always
- 25:40Speaker 1: been my fault. Everything was his fault.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Isn't this a classic example of corporate promoting incompetence though
- 25:48Speaker 2: It's like, look, she's got potential, but we just just
- 25:50Speaker 2: keep kicking her up the line, So she's someone else's problem.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Ah, dear, it is one of the all time great stories,
- 25:56Speaker 1: isn't it like this? You take it, but you take
- 26:00Speaker 1: for granted right now that things are so efficient and
- 26:02Speaker 1: there's a website where things are updated and someone knows.
- 26:04Speaker 1: But back in the day you were, You'll beholden to
- 26:07Speaker 1: someone being a efficient enough to collect the school sheets
- 26:11Speaker 1: and b have enough hoarding instincts to keep them until
- 26:15Speaker 1: somebody needed them. It is just phenomenal, right, So I mean,
- 26:18Speaker 1: now Netball Australia has a History and Traditions committee that
- 26:22Speaker 1: these things and there's processes in place. Back in this
- 26:26Speaker 1: it was me and I was never good at maths.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Love it well.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Coxy wants to assure everyone that Todd Miller, who's the
- 26:34Speaker 2: stats guy, must be is he.
- 26:35Speaker 1: The Australia fall everywhere, is a guru.
- 26:40Speaker 2: And trying to get some type of clarity around the numbers.
- 26:44Speaker 2: There one thing I did particularly love. I love the
- 26:46Speaker 2: whole thing with Romelda, although we clearly need to get
- 26:49Speaker 2: greater clarity on this. Like I couldn't believe this two
- 26:52Speaker 2: thousand and eight. I had a baby in two thousand
- 26:54Speaker 2: and eight who is now has a driver's license. It's
- 26:57Speaker 2: how is that possible that you're still playing netball and
- 27:00Speaker 2: all of that. You know, it's like that is an
- 27:02Speaker 2: incredible passage of time. But you know that. I'm upset
- 27:07Speaker 2: about the end of the player huddle, but it was
- 27:08Speaker 2: very nice to see the player archway for Ramelda there
- 27:12Speaker 2: with the two teams coming to get that to walk
- 27:14Speaker 2: her off and hashtag bring back the huddle. Come on.
- 27:18Speaker 2: I did what I was meant to do that on
- 27:19Speaker 2: every post until the end of time, but I haven't
- 27:23Speaker 2: the arch we have got.
- 27:25Speaker 1: I thought it was nice, and I thought the fact
- 27:27Speaker 1: that way was nice to Remelder break the record in
- 27:29Speaker 1: a game where to her current club and her former
- 27:32Speaker 1: club were playing against each other and that could be recognized.
- 27:35Speaker 1: It was really nice. So well done to whoever did
- 27:37Speaker 1: the draw. Yeah, and who had the crystal ball to
- 27:42Speaker 1: make sure that Ramelda was playing in every game and
- 27:44Speaker 1: that it landed that way exactly because you can't pretend
- 27:49Speaker 1: you want to make sure that you take all the
- 27:51Speaker 1: credit for it. Hey, quick one, not a quick one.
- 27:54Speaker 1: We should segue into the other game this weekend, giants maps.
- 27:57Speaker 2: I was about That's what I was going to segue.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Switzerland genius. We never get to talk about, Oh, we've
- 28:03Speaker 2: still got games this round, and one of the big
- 28:06Speaker 2: ones is going to be an exciting one coming out
- 28:08Speaker 2: of the West with certain Janelle fallon embar taking the
- 28:13Speaker 2: court again.
- 28:13Speaker 3: I believe, Oh, how do you know that?
- 28:19Speaker 1: I think Carolyn just went fishing and caught a big one.
- 28:25Speaker 1: No in all, and I can say, as this podcast
- 28:28Speaker 1: is what day is it? We're on? What day? Is
- 28:31Speaker 1: it Tuesday? Because today? Yes, so I feel we are
- 28:34Speaker 1: recording this on a Tuesday. I can honestly say, with
- 28:37Speaker 1: hand on heart at this point in time, that decision
- 28:39Speaker 1: has not been made.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Okay, but it's it's still it's a technical possibility.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Well I think it's a technical We're a day closer
- 28:45Speaker 1: every day, so she's not far away, but we.
- 28:48Speaker 3: We will make that decision later in the week.
- 28:50Speaker 1: And that is hand on heart. So it's and I
- 28:52Speaker 1: think as a club fever being really clear that like
- 28:55Speaker 1: in any athlete coming back, like you wish you had
- 28:58Speaker 1: a crystal ball to go, she'll be ready this date.
- 29:01Speaker 1: You just don't. So even when you're returning from injury,
- 29:03Speaker 1: there's always that sort of you know, it's a four
- 29:05Speaker 1: to six week injury, and then it's really relative to
- 29:08Speaker 1: each individual. So for Janiel, it's about load management. We've
- 29:11Speaker 1: got to make sure that she's loaded and ready to
- 29:15Speaker 1: play at an SSM level, and so we've sort of
- 29:18Speaker 1: got our targets on that, but she's got to marry
- 29:21Speaker 1: up to those targets. So we'll give her as much
- 29:23Speaker 1: time as we can and if that means that she
- 29:25Speaker 1: can get up for this weekend, so be it. If
- 29:26Speaker 1: not next weekend or the one after, so it'll be
- 29:29Speaker 1: in the next few weeks definitely.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Well, there's my scoop, gone, are you playing? Sorry?
- 29:35Speaker 1: I should know we play the Vixens this weekend, and
- 29:38Speaker 1: probably we might just say like, and you guys while
- 29:41Speaker 1: we're actually recording this. News has just come out from
- 29:44Speaker 1: fever on Socials this morning that very sadly Ruth Ariang
- 29:49Speaker 1: ruptured her achilles on Saturday at Yeah, devastating news, and
- 29:57Speaker 1: for anyone that's followed Ruth's story, it's even more devastating
- 30:00Speaker 1: knowing that she had an ACL injury a couple of
- 30:03Speaker 1: years ago that had an extended recovery time and you
- 30:07Speaker 1: know a couple of hurdles along the way.
- 30:09Speaker 3: So, yeah, she's out for the season, and let's link.
- 30:12Speaker 1: That to the fact that she was also eligible for
- 30:14Speaker 1: World Youth Cups, so.
- 30:16Speaker 3: And I imagine she would have been in in seat
- 30:19Speaker 3: one A.
- 30:20Speaker 1: So unfortunately that goes and yeah, she's a fairly distraught
- 30:25Speaker 1: young lady at the moment, which is really sad. Off
- 30:28Speaker 1: to the surgeon today and then potentially for a surgery
- 30:33Speaker 1: tomorrow or Thursday. So it was a bit of a
- 30:36Speaker 1: it was a bit of a yeah, like you know
- 30:39Speaker 1: you have and again you have moments in sport. They
- 30:43Speaker 1: are the highs and lows of the game. But I'll
- 30:45Speaker 1: tell you that that moment. I've had two moments in
- 30:49Speaker 1: this game at Fever. One was when young Ingod Collier
- 30:52Speaker 1: did her acl over in COVID when we were playing
- 30:55Speaker 1: in Brisbane, and that shook me to the core. And
- 30:58Speaker 1: I can tell you on Saturday's injury shook me to
- 31:01Speaker 1: the core as well. It was just it was just
- 31:03Speaker 1: a moment anyhow, not great news. So so she snapped
- 31:08Speaker 1: her achilles Is it the same leg as her knee
- 31:12Speaker 1: was on. I don't know why I'm asked this, I
- 31:14Speaker 1: just I just no, no, it was the first No,
- 31:17Speaker 1: it's not the first question I asked as well, because
- 31:19Speaker 1: you just wonder what the linkage is. But like all
- 31:21Speaker 1: great Achilles ruptures, Liz, and you're talking to someone that's
- 31:25Speaker 1: done it three times, so I am potentially an expert
- 31:29Speaker 1: on the topic, very very good at it.
- 31:32Speaker 3: I'm not sure it's something I want to be good at.
- 31:34Speaker 1: But anyhow, it was just an atypical Achilles pushed off
- 31:39Speaker 1: in the goal circle to chase no one in any proximity.
- 31:44Speaker 1: You just see her knee collapse to the ground as
- 31:48Speaker 1: if her ankle's given way. Her head turns around to
- 31:51Speaker 1: kind of see who the hell might have kicked, pushed
- 31:54Speaker 1: or whatever, and then just the you know, the pain
- 31:58Speaker 1: that follows and the screen and the noise was bloody awful.
- 32:01Speaker 1: But she initially thought it was her knee, and I
- 32:04Speaker 1: think that was a bit of a traumatic response for
- 32:06Speaker 1: the kid, because you know, historically when you've had a
- 32:08Speaker 1: bad injury and something happens in the leg, I potentially
- 32:10Speaker 1: think And it wasn't until we got sort of into
- 32:13Speaker 1: the first aid or our medical room and she kind
- 32:16Speaker 1: of mentioned that, you know, she was starting to feel
- 32:18Speaker 1: a bit of pain in the back of her leg.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Well from someone that hasn't done a knee and done
- 32:21Speaker 1: her achilles. The pain in your leg is bloody prominent,
- 32:24Speaker 1: I can tell you, so the fact that it took
- 32:26Speaker 1: her a little while for it to go from I
- 32:28Speaker 1: think it's my knee to pain in the back of
- 32:30Speaker 1: my leg.
- 32:30Speaker 3: That's the shock kicking in and the trauma response.
- 32:33Speaker 1: So yeah, but anyhow, it's such a typical thing, isn't
- 32:37Speaker 1: it Like when you see I was commentating the game
- 32:40Speaker 1: when Cheron McMann did her achilles before the twenty eleven
- 32:46Speaker 1: World Cup. Yeah, and she went down and we played
- 32:49Speaker 1: the replay and straight away my heart sank because you
- 32:53Speaker 1: can see she looks around. Something goes and she looks
- 32:56Speaker 1: around to see who kicked her, And when you speak
- 32:58Speaker 1: to her, she was like, I was certain that someone.
- 33:00Speaker 1: So she had a cranky face on because she thought
- 33:02Speaker 1: something kicked her and she was all by herself, and
- 33:05Speaker 1: you know that was that was like a moment because
- 33:09Speaker 1: had she not done her knee, she would have gone
- 33:10Speaker 1: to the World Cup. She would have broken my record
- 33:12Speaker 1: for the most Test matches played. I have no doubt
- 33:14Speaker 1: about that. And you know, when you hold a record,
- 33:17Speaker 1: you're desperate that when it's broken, it's someone who you
- 33:19Speaker 1: really respect. And admire, so I was really pumped that
- 33:21Speaker 1: Chas was going to break my record and that just
- 33:24Speaker 1: changed the course of her career. Of course, she was
- 33:26Speaker 1: at the end of her career Ruths at the beginning.
- 33:29Speaker 1: So obviously she will miss the World Cup now that's
- 33:32Speaker 1: it's scheduled for September this year in Gibraltar, So the
- 33:37Speaker 1: recovery time doesn't quite work here and going May June
- 33:40Speaker 1: July or is that five months? It doesn't quite work.
- 33:42Speaker 1: But like I really do hope that she can make
- 33:46Speaker 1: her way back and onto the court for next season.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Then it's just horrible.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Yeah, she'll she'll be all right, but it'll be all
- 33:51Speaker 1: to be a long journey. And like anyone that's sort
- 33:53Speaker 1: of doing a major injury for the second or third time,
- 33:56Speaker 1: it's the there's there's the unknown is now known as
- 34:01Speaker 1: in what recovery is. But the challenge I think becomes
- 34:05Speaker 1: twice as hard because you know, you like and then
- 34:09Speaker 1: you know, I guess the fear of it. What else
- 34:11Speaker 1: is going to happen? So there's some there's some certainly
- 34:14Speaker 1: some work for her to do and for the club
- 34:17Speaker 1: to do. And I have a black I think from
- 34:19Speaker 1: the lightning also did hers in the preseason. So two
- 34:21Speaker 1: young athletes with an achilles, which is really rare for
- 34:23Speaker 1: our sports. So yeah, you don't really hear much about it.
- 34:27Speaker 2: She was having such as having such a blind she's
- 34:31Speaker 2: just looking like she was coming into her own. Yeah,
- 34:35Speaker 2: that's for saying, Liz, I just need to ask the
- 34:37Speaker 2: hard hitting question though. Does Charrell need Todd Miller to
- 34:42Speaker 2: look into those numbers?
- 34:46Speaker 1: I don't know, Listen. I had nothing to do with
- 34:51Speaker 1: her stats, all my stats. Actually I've been sacked by then.
- 34:55Speaker 1: By the time we started playing, I had been but
- 34:57Speaker 1: you know, and I want to put it on record
- 34:59Speaker 1: that I had nothing to do with her. I mean
- 35:00Speaker 1: I was in the stadium, but I had nothing to
- 35:02Speaker 1: do with her injury, right, I did, Boddy. I didn't
- 35:05Speaker 1: request it from anyone. No, but let me say, don't
- 35:09Speaker 1: cross me. That's a great call, Carolyn, that's a great call.
- 35:14Speaker 1: We might give shirazzle or call after this. She's got
- 35:17Speaker 1: Toddy's number, but she she doesn't want to talk about it.
- 35:19Speaker 2: She says, she's.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Look the other lord that we still haven't talked. We're talking.
- 35:28Speaker 1: How good am I going? Now? You two have got
- 35:31Speaker 1: me on the raps You've got me nervous. We still
- 35:33Speaker 1: haven't talked about MAV's giants. We have not ill not
- 35:36Speaker 1: the rip a game right, Like, I'm well done to
- 35:40Speaker 1: Shimona Jock who not only got an m VP but
- 35:43Speaker 1: played half the game with one eye. I don't know
- 35:46Speaker 1: if you notice that she got she got a knock
- 35:49Speaker 1: in the eye, and her eye literally you would as
- 35:52Speaker 1: for every goal she scored after that moment her eye
- 35:55Speaker 1: closed Rocky clo until I think she shot it. Yeah,
- 35:59Speaker 1: like Rocky, she her last ten or so goals with
- 36:03Speaker 1: one eye. That wasn't it. It was one hundred games.
- 36:11Speaker 1: So she hit a milestone, got hit in the eye,
- 36:14Speaker 1: and still hit the She got hit in the eye
- 36:16Speaker 1: with the milestone. Yes, so yes, she had a riper game.
- 36:20Speaker 1: And I thought unique PILARVI because Sasha Glasgow is out
- 36:23Speaker 1: and so of course big questions on can she run
- 36:25Speaker 1: the full sixty minutes out the front of the course,
- 36:27Speaker 1: And there was no Naya Allen who would have been
- 36:30Speaker 1: the backup, so they pulled in Sasha McDonald from the
- 36:33Speaker 1: V and L. So Sasha McDonald nearly fell off the
- 36:35Speaker 1: chair when she got a phone call from Nicole Richardson
- 36:37Speaker 1: saying come in, and so I was a bit like,
- 36:39Speaker 1: oh God, can giants get over the line here? But
- 36:41Speaker 1: I just thought the MAVs. The MAVs played really well,
- 36:44Speaker 1: and I thought unique Polarvi. She's a clever player. And
- 36:47Speaker 1: while she may not potentially be I think at SSN
- 36:52Speaker 1: fitness levels for a goal attack to really have a
- 36:55Speaker 1: true impact. Maybe against the Swift saw a thunderbird. She
- 36:59Speaker 1: played a clever, clever netball and allowed Shimona to just
- 37:03Speaker 1: shine and they got the win.
- 37:04Speaker 3: So they got a big win, so it wasn't a
- 37:05Speaker 3: small win.
- 37:06Speaker 2: I loved watching last year when she did that time
- 37:09Speaker 2: with the Swifts. I thought she was really really fabulous
- 37:12Speaker 2: to watch.
- 37:13Speaker 1: M She's an exciting place. She's, you know, a bit
- 37:15Speaker 1: cat toart, you know.
- 37:18Speaker 2: I don't like though junior netballers are now bouncing the
- 37:22Speaker 2: bloody ball off the post when they're throwing it in
- 37:25Speaker 2: from the baseline. It's like, come on, that's a unique Pilarvi.
- 37:29Speaker 2: I ban my girls from doing that. So what are
- 37:31Speaker 2: you going to do? You're missing? You just throw the
- 37:32Speaker 2: ball straight out.
- 37:33Speaker 1: So oh look I don't I haven't banned my kids
- 37:38Speaker 1: from doing anything in that. Actually, it was surprising nobody
- 37:41Speaker 1: that my team is a really excellent defensive team, but
- 37:44Speaker 1: I can't attack us.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Who knows what happens in the in the attacking circle.
- 37:50Speaker 1: But when we get the ball, I'm like, sort yourself out.
- 37:53Speaker 1: I'll meet you at the other end I can do.
- 37:55Speaker 1: You know what, I think it'd be fascinating to watch
- 37:57Speaker 1: you at a netball clinic teaching shootings technique. Fascinating. What
- 38:01Speaker 1: were fascinating about it? I know the theory? Do you
- 38:04Speaker 1: know the theory? Yeah? Look, Jane Orschwager and Coxy I
- 38:08Speaker 1: used to watch them do it at clinics and they
- 38:10Speaker 1: just reckon you. Pretend it's a little troll on the
- 38:13Speaker 1: front of the ring and it's you know, smack talking you.
- 38:16Speaker 1: So you just make sure that's what you're aimed for.
- 38:18Speaker 1: You don't aim for the front of the ring. You
- 38:19Speaker 1: aim for the little troll sitting on the top of
- 38:21Speaker 1: the ring. I don't know. You line your feed up,
- 38:23Speaker 1: you flick your wrists, you check your lip. Class all
- 38:27Speaker 1: the dribblers out there that are about to go into
- 38:29Speaker 1: their training, their local Saturday netball and start telling their kids,
- 38:32Speaker 1: look out for the bloody what was it? The grem
- 38:34Speaker 1: what was it? The roll anyhow, I'd take you in
- 38:41Speaker 1: my team any day, coaching defense, but I'd probably run
- 38:45Speaker 1: a mile if you were coaching shooting, I think. And
- 38:51Speaker 1: then the other game in this round is clean lightning minutes.
- 38:57Speaker 1: I reckon, that's a ripper game. It's going to be
- 38:59Speaker 1: a tough goes to the game of the round. I
- 39:01Speaker 1: reckon it could be the Battle of the Bruce. I
- 39:04Speaker 1: know it. Thunderbirds and Swifts was massive, but now we
- 39:08Speaker 1: have hindsight and it wasn't. Well it was for the Swiss,
- 39:10Speaker 1: but it was a bit of a blowout. I reckon
- 39:12Speaker 1: this lightning five Birds game, and it is a lightning
- 39:17Speaker 1: home game, and historically five Birds do quite well on
- 39:20Speaker 1: lightning home soil, so I think this could be a
- 39:23Speaker 1: This would be a beauty of a game.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Well it's not. You know, you play in Brisbane. You're
- 39:26Speaker 2: used to going to NISA on the weekends, aren't you,
- 39:28Speaker 2: So it's not really an away games.
- 39:31Speaker 3: True, that's true.
- 39:33Speaker 1: I say this all the time. Fever and Thunderbirds have
- 39:35Speaker 1: this same banter for competitive balance. All right, move on,
- 39:39Speaker 1: who am I tipping? I chip the home team as usual,
- 39:42Speaker 1: because that's what I do. Susan, who are you tipping
- 39:45Speaker 1: home team is lightning. I've gone five birds. I've gone
- 39:50Speaker 1: five birds. I think this will be Mary's greatest challenge
- 39:56Speaker 1: to date in her since playing SSN. I'm still not
- 40:00Speaker 1: sure whether at with Courtney Bruce, where Bruce is, whether
- 40:02Speaker 1: she's up to sixty minutes or not. But last week
- 40:05Speaker 1: Reynolds was kind of wrote for last week before Reynolds
- 40:07Speaker 1: was rotating her and Irvin and not convinced they got
- 40:11Speaker 1: that right.
- 40:11Speaker 3: But then we're not in the inner sanctum to understand.
- 40:13Speaker 3: Maybe minutes allowed to.
- 40:15Speaker 1: Play, but if Bruce gets a sixty minute run on Sholock,
- 40:18Speaker 1: I reckon sure whether or down, and that could be
- 40:20Speaker 1: the difference for me.
- 40:21Speaker 3: But at the moment I'm back in fives.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Carolyn, Well, look, it doesn't matter who I tip, honestly.
- 40:31Speaker 2: Well I did tip the Swifts though, and I don't
- 40:34Speaker 2: knowh with my heart. I try to tip with my head,
- 40:37Speaker 2: but clearly there's something wrong in my head because I'm
- 40:39Speaker 2: not very good at my tipping. I will say though,
- 40:41Speaker 2: looking at the numbers from SO, We've got a little
- 40:44Speaker 2: group within the tipping comp which is what I call
- 40:47Speaker 2: the Sexy Girl. So Susan Elizabeth Catherines and Carolyn's and
- 40:50Speaker 2: there's twenty nine people in that. Off the top ten,
- 40:55Speaker 2: four of them are from Carolyn's. I'll say there's only
- 40:57Speaker 2: one from Elizabeth. Susan follow Carolyn's and Strengths and then
- 41:01Speaker 2: Catherines and then Elizabeth. So clearly I'm bringing the average
- 41:05Speaker 2: down because I'm nowhere near the top ten of that
- 41:08Speaker 2: twenty nine. I think I'm twenty nine. But I think
- 41:11Speaker 2: that's very interesting that the Carolins are doing exceptionally well.
- 41:14Speaker 1: There you still have an answer the question.
- 41:17Speaker 2: I still haven't answer the question. I reckon I'm going
- 41:19Speaker 2: to tip the five. It's I've not tipped them this
- 41:23Speaker 2: season and they keep surprising me, so they are looking good.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Based on that, I'll now go in and change my
- 41:32Speaker 1: tip to line.
- 41:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think that's a foolish man.
- 41:39Speaker 1: Yeah, it should be a good game. Looking forward to it.
- 41:40Speaker 2: Liz, You've got to get off this shortly because you're
- 41:44Speaker 2: going somewhere. What's going on?
- 41:45Speaker 1: Speaking of the Bruce, I'm actually going to head up
- 41:47Speaker 1: to Brisbane Entertainment Center, which is at the start of
- 41:50Speaker 1: the Bruce, and an opposition announcement today as part of
- 41:54Speaker 1: the election sort of announcements that they will pledge should
- 41:58Speaker 1: they win government three hundred thousand dollars for Netbork Queensland
- 42:03Speaker 1: to buy a portable wooden floor, which is fantastic. It
- 42:08Speaker 1: allows it would then allow games to be played at
- 42:11Speaker 1: the Brisbane Entertainment Center, so it would allow the five
- 42:14Speaker 1: Verse to play in front of nine thousand people. It
- 42:17Speaker 1: then allows Netball Australia to take Diamonds games to Brisbane.
- 42:21Speaker 1: But it also because it's portable, it allows super network games.
- 42:24Speaker 1: We've played around the States, so canns townsmall and into
- 42:27Speaker 1: regional centers. So yeah, a bit of exciting news. I'm
- 42:30Speaker 1: going to head up and we'll do the announcement really
- 42:32Speaker 1: so by the time this podcast comes out, the announcement's done.
- 42:35Speaker 2: We'll take three hundred thousand. We'd also take three hundred
- 42:38Speaker 2: million if anyone wanted to throw our sports.
- 42:40Speaker 1: That's true, but it's taking three hundred thousand to start with,
- 42:42Speaker 1: so I think that's yeah, that's really exciting. Is that
- 42:46Speaker 1: what a netball call? It costs h Yeah, a portable one.
- 42:50Speaker 1: I was trying to explain it to my son and
- 42:51Speaker 1: he goes, what do you mean because he's coming with
- 42:52Speaker 1: me at school holiday, so a little road trip for us.
- 42:55Speaker 1: I'm like, it's like a big jigsaw puzzle and you
- 42:57Speaker 1: put it all together and the players can play in it.
- 42:59Speaker 1: You could see him going, wow, put on put on
- 43:03Speaker 1: the MCG Yeah, that's.
- 43:05Speaker 2: But that is exciting that you could see sunt Super
- 43:07Speaker 2: Netball games heading up to Cairns or towns Fall or
- 43:10Speaker 2: you know, out of the out of the usual the
- 43:13Speaker 2: route we're.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Going and they've been there. Yeah, the test matches have
- 43:17Speaker 1: been there in the past, but the flooring has been
- 43:21Speaker 1: the thing that's sort of you need to make sure
- 43:23Speaker 1: you've got right. So hopefully fingers crossed one way or another,
- 43:28Speaker 1: there'll be a portable floor sitting with Netball Queensland sooner
- 43:31Speaker 1: rather than later.
- 43:33Speaker 2: Well you see, while you're up there, Liz, see if
- 43:35Speaker 2: we can squeeze in one more no dribble extra because
- 43:37Speaker 2: we've had some great chats and we've spoken to the
- 43:40Speaker 2: Minister for Sport, but we have not yet managed to
- 43:42Speaker 2: coordinate our diary with the opposition spokesperson for Sport to
- 43:47Speaker 2: talk about talk about Neddie. So but if you haven't
- 43:51Speaker 2: been listening to those, we've only released one so far
- 43:53Speaker 2: with Sawie Daniel, which was great. We've got another couple
- 43:55Speaker 2: coming up, No Dribble Extra, which will be released before
- 43:58Speaker 2: the election on May the third, where we talk about
- 44:02Speaker 2: what have you got for us? People? What do you
- 44:04Speaker 2: got for us?
- 44:06Speaker 1: It's been good, all right? Do we have a wind
- 44:08Speaker 1: beneath our wings?
- 44:10Speaker 2: We do not have a win beneath our wings this week?
- 44:13Speaker 2: Maybe we do, but it's three o'clock and down over here, dearly,
- 44:19Speaker 2: I'll tell you what I reckon. I'm the one I
- 44:22Speaker 2: was gonna say, you should be thank you. I managed.
- 44:27Speaker 2: I don't want any of those shitty scrunches. I've seen
- 44:29Speaker 2: how poorly they're made. But I've managed to go into
- 44:34Speaker 2: humor alert the back end of my computer and work
- 44:37Speaker 2: out what was going on with my microphone so I
- 44:39Speaker 2: could actually join you for this conversation, which to me
- 44:42Speaker 2: is above and beyond that is the game.
- 44:46Speaker 1: Most certainly it most certainly isn't and the game. Thanks
- 44:49Speaker 1: you for it, well, thank you, thanks Sue for once again.
- 44:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I was able to just deves drop on your
- 44:58Speaker 2: gowns for a little bit at the againning. We're all
- 45:00Speaker 2: able to eavesdrop on YouTube for at the beginning, which
- 45:02Speaker 2: was very nice. But yeah, we always love having hearing.
- 45:04Speaker 2: Congratulations on your big news, and obviously that gives you
- 45:07Speaker 2: heaps more time to do unpaid work charming in on
- 45:10Speaker 2: this podcast.
- 45:13Speaker 1: I love a bit of unpaid work. Oh we all
- 45:15Speaker 1: do love it.
- 45:17Speaker 2: But that's I think that has been a cracking conversation.
- 45:22Speaker 2: We are halfway through around We've got two games to go.
- 45:25Speaker 2: You know, it's great to have this where we can
- 45:28Speaker 2: talk in the middle of the round, but I personally
- 45:30Speaker 2: prefer four games of netball on a weekend. But this
- 45:33Speaker 2: is this is fun, so I've got a lot of
- 45:35Speaker 2: funny but Sue, thank you for joining us. From the
- 45:38Speaker 2: wild West. I'm Carolyn Swindel and I'm in Lugano, Switzerland, and.
- 45:42Speaker 1: I'm I'm Zealous and I'm in northern New South Wales.
- 45:46Speaker 1: We're about to head to Queensland and to get all
- 45:50Speaker 1: very exciting. Yeah, gordest, I'm going to go to training
- 45:54Speaker 1: and I'm going to say to you Carolyn Shall Black
- 45:56Speaker 1: with younuayd enjoy shall touch out grabs here all right.
- 46:02Speaker 1: See you guys had a wink tie mm hmm.
