- 0:14SPEAKER_01: Hello everyone and welcome to the Remedy Revolution Podcast.
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: My name is Erin, and today's guest I'm really excited to have on because he is another fellow homeopath, somebody who uh is very near and dear to me because he has uh really worked very diligently to bring homeopathy to a much wider audience.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: He is the founder of the Center for Homeopathic Education, a program which I have been involved with as a student uh learning through Hilary Dorian at the Master Practitioner Program, which was amazing.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: So I highly recommend any of the programs they have.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: Um Marcus, welcome to the show.
- 0:58SPEAKER_02: Thank you, Evan.
- 0:59SPEAKER_02: Thank you for having me.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: So tell us a little bit about your story.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: I'd love to know what interested you in homeopathy and how did you start?
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's funny because every homeopath has a story to tell, don't they?
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: They have a story to tell how how they got into homeopathy.
- 1:18SPEAKER_02: And I always say, we don't decide to get into homeopathy.
- 1:22SPEAKER_02: It chooses on the time's right, it sort of pulls us in.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: And for me, I I wasn't, I didn't know anything about homeopathy.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: I was I was like 20 years of age.
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: Um, I was in a band, you know, I was gonna be a rock and roll star.
- 1:37SPEAKER_02: That was I thought that was my destiny.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: Um, who I was inspired by Bruce Springsteen when I was 13 years of age.
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: Um, there's a whole story to that, which I won't go into now.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: So I uh yeah, I was in a band.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: I was I was a musician and I was a singer in a band, played guitar, and that's what I was gonna do.
- 1:55SPEAKER_02: And being a musician, you know, we never had any money.
- 1:59SPEAKER_02: Uh, and we're always, you know, you always had enough money to the next gig that you did, and you got paid on the gig that night.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: Uh, then you'd always blow it, you know, on uh not because normally you played in pubs and clubs, and you know, you tend to spend your money very easy then on alcohol uh and different things.
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: So uh at the time we were about to do a tour, a small tour of Germany, and but I had no money, you know.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: I was really, really what we say in England skint.
- 2:27SPEAKER_02: I had no money at all.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: And I thought I'm gonna have to get some cash together just to go because again, we had to wait until we get to the gigs and get paid.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: And and so I thought I'm gonna have to get myself a job.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: Okay, I had worked in bars before and different things.
- 2:40SPEAKER_02: Um, so I thought easy, I'd get a job easily, no problem.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: So, but I couldn't get a job.
- 2:45SPEAKER_02: This was like 1990, 1991.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: Um, that we were in a recession in the UK, and you couldn't get a job, couldn't even get bar work, which really surprised me.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: Uh, and the only job I could get was working in a nursing home with the elderly, right?
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: This was the only job I could get.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: And I can't tell you, Erin, that was so far removed from my my life to work with elderly people in a caring environment.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: This is wasn't this wasn't on my agenda.
- 3:14SPEAKER_02: Well, that's the only job I could get, and uh it wasn't great money, it was like two uh 200,£2.50 an hour.
- 3:21SPEAKER_02: That's probably$3 an hour.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: Um, and that was night shifts as well as you know day shifts.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: So I I originally just thought I've got no choice.
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: I'm only gonna be there for a few weeks, so I'll I'll just I'll suck it up and do it.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: And so I did, and it was um it was hard work.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, you know, I take my hats off to people, carers who work in these places because it is hard, hard work.
- 3:44SPEAKER_02: And the place I was working at was a place uh specialized for people with dementia and outsiders, yeah, and and so you know, early morning shifts, all night shifts, you know, it's like 24-7.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: Anyway, I started working there and I was only there a few days, and I was having a cup of coffee in the uh in the coffee room, and one of I was talking to one of the nurses who worked there, and she said, um, we started chatting away, talking about things, and then she suddenly said to me, um, it's funny because I remember it now so clearly, she said to me, You know what, Marcus?
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: You make a really good homeopath.
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: And I went, What?
- 4:20SPEAKER_02: I didn't know we know what the word meant.
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: I said, I don't what what do you mean?
- 4:25SPEAKER_02: I don't what uh what's what is a homeopath?
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: And she said she explained what it was, and she said, Look, I'm gonna do I'm doing a course in September.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: Um it's a training course, and uh I really want I'm gonna do it, or I want to really want to do it, and there's this open day uh next week.
- 4:41SPEAKER_02: Why don't you come along with me?
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: And I said, No, no, no, you don't understand.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: You know, I'm I'm in a band, you know, I'm only here for a few weeks.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: So she goes, No, no, no, honestly, I think you should come with me.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: I really feel it intuitive if you should come with me.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: And I thought she was crazy, this woman.
- 4:56SPEAKER_02: I mean, I was like, what are you talking about?
- 4:58SPEAKER_02: And she was and I made my excuses and left the coffee room, you know, very politely.
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: But every time, Erin, I saw it after that.
- 5:05SPEAKER_02: If I saw her in the corridor or I saw her, she go, Marcus, honestly, I think you should come with me.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: I really feel strongly about this.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: Um, just come for just come with me, you know, just come for the day.
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: In the end, I just to shut her up.
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: I just said, Okay, I'll come with you.
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: But I'm not signing up to anything.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: Okay, I ain't signing up.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: I thought my lonely, she just wanted, she didn't want to go by herself.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: I didn't know.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: Anyway, so so the day before this open day session with uh with this college, um, I woke up with really this is the day before, I woke up with really bad tonsillitis.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: And I used to get tonsillitis all the time.
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: You know, I was smoking, I was drinking, you know, I wasn't living the most healthy of life.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: Um but I didn't normally go to the doctors, get some antibiotics, and it would clear up, but it would always come back.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: And this had gone on for years.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: So I try to get and see the doctor, couldn't get in, couldn't get an appointment.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: So I suddenly thought, I know, I'm gonna try this homeopathy stuff.
- 6:02SPEAKER_02: So I got the bus into town, went to the I thought, where should I go?
- 6:05SPEAKER_02: Health food store.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: I went to the local health food store and I went in there, there's all these different things.
- 6:10SPEAKER_02: I don't think I've I'd ever been in a health food store.
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: And I I asked the lady, did you have this homeopathy stuff?
- 6:17SPEAKER_02: I couldn't even pronounce the name.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: And she said, Oh yeah, we've got some in the back, um, the shells for the homeopathic remedies.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: And there's a little guidebook there as well.
- 6:25SPEAKER_02: So if you can look at the guidebook and see which remedy you need.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: So I went to the back of the store and then these rows and rows of remedies, all these weird names, you know, Arsenicum, you know, pulsatilla, carbo veg, you know, Nux Vomica.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: And I've also thought, oh yeah, that's a really great name for a metal band.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: Great name for both.
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: Probably a band out there called Nux Vomica, because it's a great name for bands.
- 6:48SPEAKER_02: Um, and then I and then I was looking through this book and I looking at sore throats, and the remedy that fitted me was gel semi.
- 6:57SPEAKER_02: And it had because I had this band across the head, like a headache, I felt like flu like it, all the symptoms, it's sort of the keynote symptom.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: So I purchased a gel semi, went home, and I remember sitting in the chair and I got the bottle and I opened it, and I thought, said to myself, if this works, then I'm gonna go to this open day tomorrow.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: If it doesn't work, I'm not gonna go.
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: And I took the remedy.
- 7:21SPEAKER_02: Now, this was uh you know we're leader, we're leading the company called We Leader, they gave off right a homeopathic remedy.
- 7:29SPEAKER_02: I told the story to their annual conference, it's really interesting how full circle it came.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: Um anyway, so I took the remedy.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: I saw a little white pill, took it, and I fell asleep in the chair, actually, and ended up falling asleep.
- 7:44SPEAKER_02: And I woke up a couple of hours later and I was soaking wet with sweat, absolutely soaking wet.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: And I thought, wow, that was powerful.
- 7:54SPEAKER_02: You know, I I just felt it.
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: Felt that power.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: So I took another one and I did that all day.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: I didn't know anything about dose, I didn't read the bottle, I was just taking the remedies all day.
- 8:03SPEAKER_02: And I remember being in the pub that night, and I'm there, and I got you know my drink and with my friends, and they're going, Oh my god, you should be in bed, you look terrible.
- 8:10SPEAKER_02: And I was like sweating, and I said, Yeah, I know, but I actually feel really good actually inside.
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: I actually feel okay, I feel good.
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: Anyway, the next day I woke up, no tonsillitis, and I've never had tonsillitis since, and that was what, 35 years ago.
- 8:27SPEAKER_02: So I went to the open day.
- 8:29SPEAKER_02: Now I didn't intend to sign up or anything like that, I just went to the open day to go with her.
- 8:35SPEAKER_02: And the uh the guy speaking who ran the school, who actually set up the first school of homeopathy in the UK, uh, a guy called uh Robert Davidson, who's taught everybody, including Hillary and different people.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: He taught everybody.
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: Um, and he set up the Society of Hummy Pass with Martin Miles uh in 1978.
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: He was speaking and he was talking about his experiences of homeopathy, he was talking about uh his cases, he was talking about remedies.
- 9:02SPEAKER_02: And I remember thinking I'm sat there, I'm 20 years of age, and I'm thinking I know I know everything.
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: I'm sat there and I go, This is true, how come the whole world doesn't know about it?
- 9:14SPEAKER_02: I couldn't believe I hadn't heard about it.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: Well the the most powerful thing was was as he was speaking, I just remember going really quiet inside.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: There's this like a sense of quietness came over me, like a deep deepness of what I was hearing.
- 9:35SPEAKER_02: And it wasn't the words that he was saying, it was what was behind the words.
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: It was like part of me deep and I knew this was to be true.
- 9:45SPEAKER_02: It was like I was hearing truth for the first time.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: And so I thought how can the whole world doesn't know about it?
- 9:54SPEAKER_02: And then the second thought I had was I'm gonna make sure the whole world doesn't know about it.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: And that was it.
- 10:01SPEAKER_02: I signed up.
- 10:02SPEAKER_02: I had no way of paying for this course.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: As I signed up, I thought I'll find the money.
- 10:07SPEAKER_02: And that's why I said you don't decide to get into homeopathy, it pulls you in when the time is right, and it certainly pulled me in, and here I am, like I said, 35 years later.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and making an impact uh with so many new homeopaths.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: No, I love it, I love it.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: Um I love hearing people's homeopathy stories because um you know I I uh I always say, you know, I deal a lot with pants, pandas, and autism.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: And um I I always tell people, yeah, well, you know, they said you're great with all these these kids.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: And I said, Well, it was the education I never thought I wanted, you know.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: Um I got the education, baptism by fire, if you will.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think that's I think that's really important, especially with clients and patients, because they know the journey that you've been on.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 11:04SPEAKER_02: I think you when you embody what you do, then you have impact.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: Because people feel that they people know, and that's why I think as practitioners, we should always be in a self-reflective process, because you can only take people as far as you're right, you can't take them any further.
- 11:22SPEAKER_02: So I think that's really important for practitioners, particularly, to to always be on that journey of of discovery, not just just intellectual, but but uh, but um on a personal level as well.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: So once you got enrolled in the school, started learning a little bit more about what homeopathy was, uh it's funny because um I think of I've I've had Kim Malia on and and that uh the film Um Introducing Homeopathy, I think it's called.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: Um anyway, hilarious because there's this clip that um for those of you who haven't seen it, it they're asking people what do you think homeopathy is?
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: And they're like, homo what?
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: Lisa Breebrand, yeah.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: It's hysterical though, um, watching these people that um don't even know what the word means.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: So um I'd love to just kind of for those listeners who might not necessarily be familiar with homeopathy, because we do talk about lots of other health and wellness topics here on the podcast.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: So tell us your um elevator pitch for homeopathy for those that are interested in learning more.
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, uh, homeopathy to me is is the whole system of medicine.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: So it looks like looks at you mentally, emotionally, as well as physically.
- 14:05SPEAKER_02: And it the most core element of homeopathy is like yours like, or the law of similarities.
- 14:11SPEAKER_02: And the law of similarity is homeopathy, and homeopathy is law of similarness.
- 14:16SPEAKER_02: It's like this is the cornerstone of what homeopathy is about.
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: And it's interesting, I've just been reading a book about about the history of homeopathy in America, a really interesting book.
- 14:25SPEAKER_02: It's quite an old book, but it goes right all the way back.
- 14:27SPEAKER_02: And back to it talks a lot about Hanuman, and I can never you can never read this stuff enough, you know, what happened and how he discovered homeopathy.
- 14:35SPEAKER_02: But the basis of it is light cures light.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: So if you chop an onion up, your eyes water and your nose runs.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: But we use onion in a very diluted amount on circus, and that remedy's called allium sepa.
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: And we use that for hay fever symptoms or colds where our eyes are streaming and our nose is running.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: Another good analogy is uh coffee.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: You drink a lot of coffee, uh, you drink too much coffee.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: I mean, you can stimulate you have a few cups, but then if you do too much of it, your whole nervous system goes into like this whole sort of um frenzy and gets overwhelmed and excitable.
- 15:11SPEAKER_02: Well, we use coffee and you can't sleep and have insomnia and racing thoughts.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: But we use koffia, which is the homeopathic potentialized form of coffee, uh, for people that have those symptoms, like they could be worried about work or relationship issues, but they can't sleep, or give it to children as well, they can't sleep if they're excited.
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: Um people that haven't drunk coffee.
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: So, what can cause something in a large amount, in a small amount, it can cure it.
- 15:36SPEAKER_02: And that is the principle of like cures like or the law of stimulus.
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: And to me, that's really I don't know if that is a good elevator pitch, but that to me really is what homeopathy is about.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: And another good analogy I'll actually use alongside it is the uh car dashboard.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: So if you've got a car dashboard and the oil light flashes, it means there's something wrong in the engine.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: Now, if you just take the bulb out or to suppress the symptoms, there's a problem in the engine, the car's gonna break down two or three miles down the road.
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: So, what we do in homeopathy is a homeopath, we go into the engine, fix the problem, and the light goes off by itself.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: So, again, it's just a different paradigm shift around uh health and well-being.
- 16:14SPEAKER_02: And in even the remedy, uh the homeopathic remedy is different than allopathic uh uh medicines or remedy or medicines.
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: Because to me, the remedy is like a key to a lock.
- 16:26SPEAKER_02: It's not the right key, it's not that it won't work, but it's like you put the key, say in the ignition in the car, another car analogy, um initi into the car and turn the ignition, then the engine roars, it goes.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: You don't need to keep turning the key.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: It's like you only need to turn the key if the engine stalls again or you stop the car.
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: So again, this this idea that with a homeopathic remedy stimulating the body to heal itself, not trying to an allopathic medicine, which you're trying to suppress in some way or trying to control the body.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: And I always say, you know, symptoms are messages, right?
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: You know, a lot of times, um, you know, in allopathic medicine, people have this concept that they need to stop the symptoms.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: And essentially, um, it's the wrong paradigm in my mind, right?
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: Because um, while suppressing the symptoms temporarily might be necessary.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: I mean, you want to, if you're hemorrhaging blood, you want to stop the bleeding, obviously.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: So, but you know, why, you know, what is going on that is creating those symptoms?
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: What is the root cause?
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: And that's what I think homeopathy addresses so beautifully is that we're looking to to the root of that particular symptom rather than looking to just um blanket and suppress these symptoms or make them go away.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: Um okay, so I'm interested to hear about the sorry, can I just pick up on that point?
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 18:02SPEAKER_02: And I think this is what you said there is exactly right.
- 18:05SPEAKER_02: It's like we what homipapath does it say you've got, I don't know, uh a situation or an issue.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: You'd always what we do, we always ask that like what makes it better, what makes it worse, what's it feel like, what's the sensation, where is it?
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: Um, but also the most important question I think we asked as homipath is when did it all start?
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: And this especially in chronic disease.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: And you know, we've got to be we've got to be sensible.
- 18:29SPEAKER_02: I I think it's like it's like a scale.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: If I'm on a car accident, the first place I want to be is a hospital.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: I'd be taking my arnica if I'm conscious, and that did happen to me.
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: Uh, but you know, they can put me back together again, emergency medicine, amazing, fantastic.
- 18:41SPEAKER_02: I said hemorrhaging, bleeding, this all fantastic.
- 18:44SPEAKER_02: If I've got a chronic disease, I'm gonna look at other ways to get my body to heal itself before I go down that sort of drug uh route uh where I'm gonna suppress symptoms.
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: Because, as you said, you've got to get to the cause of what's going on, and often symptoms is just an external manifestation of the internal state of what's going on, and that can be mental thoughts, emotional cause, it can be past trauma cause, you know, it can be many, many reasons why people get into that state, but that's what you've got to address.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so um tell us a little bit about because I get this question all the time.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: So homeopathy really addresses the total picture, right?
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: All of the symptoms put together, who are you?
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: It's individualized medicine.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: But I think a lot of times we are so conditioned to think of mental health as separate from physical health, from physiology.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: And I think more and more we're learning and understanding, even in conventional medicine, that most of our mental health uh diagnoses actually do have physiological causes.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: So I'd love to hear your take on um how you feel homeopathy really uh fits and understands the total symptom picture in order to help people heal.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, you see this particularly in chronic disease, where um you know people present, so they come in, say they come in with eczema or they've got asthma or whatever they've got that they've got, say they come in with asthma.
- 20:15SPEAKER_02: And then, you know, you again you take the symptomatology of of how they're expressing it because in homeopathy, we what we how we see health in disease is that it's very, very individual.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: So, you know, you can have asthma and five other people could have asthma, but they would have it in a different way.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: Yours could be quite a wet, mucusy asthma, something else could be a dry asthma, you know, you could be better for being inside, something else could be feeling better in the open air.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: So this is what makes it different for malopathic medicine, orthodox medicine.
- 20:45SPEAKER_02: We're not just saying you've got asthma.
- 20:48SPEAKER_02: No, you're doing asthma, but how are you doing it is different.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: It's all individual.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: So, what we're doing is we're looking at how that person is doing is doing that asthma.
- 20:59SPEAKER_02: And as I said, we differentiate what makes it better, what makes it worse, what's the sensation like when you have it, you know.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: Um, all these what comes along when you have the asthma, you have an asthma, what else are you?
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: Oh, you have a headache as well.
- 21:12SPEAKER_02: Somebody might have, I don't know, um, tell me I have asthma, they they get uh a rash on the leg.
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: I mean, honestly, I've heard it all, I'm sure you have as well.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: So we're looking for those characteristic individual symptoms of how is that person doing asthma, and then we match a remedy accordingly with those same symptomatology.
- 21:32SPEAKER_02: Um, but the other thing we that we do is as what you said is go, when did it all start?
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and so the person says, Well, it started four years ago.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: Okay, what was happening in your life four years ago?
- 21:44SPEAKER_02: Or what do you mean?
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: Well, was anything going on?
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: Uh such as you know, did was work okay, relationship?
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's when I got divorced.
- 21:53SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: Uh and what happened?
- 21:55SPEAKER_02: Was it uh well, my husband he had an affair, you know, with my best friend, I've never forgiven.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: And you can see the emotion is still there even from four or five years ago.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: Okay, um, so you know, now you're looking for a for maybe an asthma remedy that has got anger or resentment as part of the render or suppression of emotions because lungs in Chinese medicine is to do with grief as well.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: So we look we're looking at all these factors when we're looking at a case.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: We're like a detective, and then you can then when you're taking the case, you can notice, oh, you used to have eczema.
- 22:29SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, I had eczema since I was um well since puberty.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: And where did you have it?
- 22:33SPEAKER_02: Well, I had it my legs, I had my da-da-da-da.
- 22:35SPEAKER_02: Take all that down.
- 22:36SPEAKER_02: Oh, it disappeared four years ago.
- 22:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, it disappeared.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: I was using cortisone cream as well as oh that's interesting.
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: Now the the uh the eczema went, and then you started with the asthma.
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, never really thought of that.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: Um it all got it seems like at the same time as you got that divorce with your husband.
- 22:53SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, and so the light bulbs go on.
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: And so what we're doing is it's especially in homeopic, we just do a timeline.
- 23:00SPEAKER_02: You're born here, you're here now, and different things have happened along the way.
- 23:03SPEAKER_02: Our job is trying to take the like layers, or this way around, like a stack of books, and we're trying to deal with that and get to back to the to behind that.
- 23:13SPEAKER_02: So you can give a remedy for I mean, there's lots of different remedies.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: I'm just gonna put one out of the air like Staffosangria or Nature Nature Mule, where they have this uh suppression of emotion or resentment or all these things.
- 23:25SPEAKER_02: And then people come back.
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: And how are you?
- 23:27SPEAKER_02: Oh no, I'm a lot better.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: But what was that remedy?
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: I couldn't stop crying for three days.
- 23:31SPEAKER_02: I dressed about my ex-husband.
- 23:34SPEAKER_02: And how are you feeling now?
- 23:35SPEAKER_02: I feel a lot lighter.
- 23:36SPEAKER_02: How's your asthma?
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: She's been a lot better, I've noticed.
- 23:40SPEAKER_02: I've got this bit of eczema coming back.
- 23:43SPEAKER_02: So this is what we say return on all symptoms.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: So, and then the asthma clears, the eczema may come back a bit, you treat the eczema as it should have been treated.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: And that's how we that's how we see uh that's how we see health and well-being.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, it's a completely different paradigm.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: I think it's a paradigm that people are starting to understand a little bit better as we kind of reconnect with our bodies and with nature and natural laws and all of these things, which um I think was the gift of the COVID era because people started realizing, oh gosh, well, this is you know not a fun place to be.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: This is very, you know, it's a very fearful state.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: It's uh regardless of you know what your thoughts or opinions were on the actual disease itself.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: But you know, we created this whole system of of um uh fear.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: And then now I think people are starting to realize that maybe there's a little bit of um frustration and uh even some resentment towards the medical communities because you know they've they feel almost violated in a way.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: So um so I think there's a lot of um new awakenings, people that are now starting to uh look elsewhere for especially chronic health um conditions because they're realizing that you know they might be just suppressing symptoms or palliating and not really healing.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: Um so uh tell us a little bit about um what's going on with the school and how you are uh bringing new homeopaths into the fold when it comes to you know this very challenging landscape that is becoming slightly better, um, slightly more open to homeopathy.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: Um I'm really curious how CHE is uh you know educating homeopaths not only to stand on their own when it comes to you know prescribing and dealing with their patients one-on-one, but kind of communicating that message to the world at large.
- 26:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean I I think the fundamental thing when you're um when you're looking at trainings and and trained to be a homeopath, you've really got to it's it's gotta be a real good balance between academic and clinical.
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: And because homeopathy is just not an academic exercise.
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: So so yes, you learn you learn remedies, you learn about philosophy here at CHE, you learn about um anatomy, physiology, material, medica, but then it's the application of that, yeah.
- 26:36SPEAKER_02: And that's why we um, you know, our students go into clinics and have a clinical training site where they come to our low-cost clinics, uh uh which is for the community, and we've run low-cost clinics after nearly 30 years, but people can't um access homeopathy at the full rate of what practitioners charge.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: So um we do it for 25 pounds or 30 dollars and it's a low-cost clinic, and we do all that online now on Zoom.
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and it gives students the opportunity under super clinical supervision uh with exponential clinician to be able to take cases and to um and to uh prescribe in a very safe environment.
- 27:11SPEAKER_02: So I think it's really important that you have both, but also it's important for practitioners.
- 27:16SPEAKER_02: A lot of the time people want to train to be a practitioner homeopath because they're changing careers.
- 27:20SPEAKER_02: I'd say probably 85%, 9% of the people that come and train with us are actually changing changing careers.
- 27:26SPEAKER_02: They've got into homeopathy through their kids or through their you know family treating the families, or seeing a homeopath and think, you know what?
- 27:33SPEAKER_02: I want to do something that can have an impact in people's lives.
- 27:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:36SPEAKER_02: And homeopathy is is you know, there's very few things that can have an impact in people's lives, and homeopathy is one of them, as you know already.
- 27:42SPEAKER_02: It has a huge impact.
- 27:43SPEAKER_02: And so people I found, especially you've mentioned lockdown and and the COVID pandemic.
- 27:48SPEAKER_02: I saw a huge shift after that point.
- 27:50SPEAKER_02: Uh huge shift in people's um sort of outlook on health and well-being, it completely changed things for people.
- 27:58SPEAKER_02: And I think people felt lied to, they felt deceived, they I think the biggest shock for people was on that first year there was no vaccine, there was nothing.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: People were just told to stay in the house, wear a mask if they went out, and that was it.
- 28:12SPEAKER_02: And I think that really rocked people because they thought if the work they were led to believe that actually medicine would always save them.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: And in that instance, that full year, there was nothing, it's like you're on your own.
- 28:24SPEAKER_02: And this is why I saw that people um were very disempowered around the health and well-being and were looking for other things.
- 28:31SPEAKER_02: And this is why um the whole prescriber course, actually, with Hillary that we have, um, we used to charge for that, but during that during that early pandemic, and actually we've continued to do it, but we've given we gave it away for free because I wanted people to know that there was other things out there that they could use.
- 28:47SPEAKER_02: And we've had some like 50,000 people now around the world do that short little five-hour video course online, which is still available on our website, you can still download it.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: I highly recommend people do it because Hilly was such a great teacher.
- 29:00SPEAKER_02: But it it you really saw that people were looking for a more natural healthcare solution for themselves and the family.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: So I've never been more positive about homeopathy.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: I think we're in a coming into a golden age of it.
- 29:10SPEAKER_02: I mean, demand for training is off the scale.
- 29:12SPEAKER_02: Um, and we train now not only in our classroom in London, in Regent's University, where we have a four-year training, but also we do it online as well, either two-year fast track or four-year part-time.
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: And I feel that you know the the public, I'd almost like in the US, particularly, you know, in detail, but I know in the UK, people are searching out homeopaths, you know, people have got big waiting lists.
- 29:34SPEAKER_02: It's like people are looking for it there.
- 29:36SPEAKER_02: And part of our job, and what I say to our students and graduates, is that you've got to go out and let people know what homeopathy is.
- 29:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:44SPEAKER_02: Because majority of people still don't know what it is, even though we do.
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: You go out and ask 10 people in the street what is homeopathy, as you said from that interview on introducing homeopathy, they didn't know what it was.
- 29:54SPEAKER_02: So we need to be telling people, and especially in America.
- 29:58SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'm reading this great book at the moment about the history of homeopathy in America.
- 30:02SPEAKER_02: It is phenomenal.
- 30:04SPEAKER_02: Phenomenal.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: But you know, turn of the 20th century, 25% of all physicians in America were homeopaths.
- 30:10SPEAKER_02: You know, it's it's like I think the first female doctor to ever qualify was from a homeopathic medical school.
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:16SPEAKER_02: There was a book of this book, the appendix of all the colleges around and medical homeopathic medical schools around America.
- 30:23SPEAKER_02: I mean, honestly, guys, from the US, you've got to look at your own history.
- 30:27SPEAKER_02: But it got outlawed, and it got outlawed by the Flexner report, which I won't go into detail now in the 1920s, which pulled the funding from the homeopathic hospitals, which was really set up by uh this report and this um audit was done by um Flexner, but by what's he called?
- 30:44SPEAKER_02: Not called Neggy, but Rockefeller and Rockefeller had a home path all his life.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: And lived to like 97 or something.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: And then they they actually because they're in the all business and the pharmaceutical industry is connected to the orbit, you know.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: All I say on this subject is, and that outlawed it, that completely suppressed it, you know, natural medicine, homeopathy in in America.
- 31:10SPEAKER_02: And all I would say is the pharmaceutical pharmaceutical industry is not in the wellness business, it's in the sickness business.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: And as long as you understand that, then you can make your own informed choice.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so uh, you know, one of the common uh phrases that uh that even homeopaths say is that, oh well, it's uh you know, the royal family in the UK, how do you utilize homeopathy?
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: Um and there's it I think in the US, there's this perception that in the UK that there's been uh you know homeopathic pharmacies like on every street corner.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: I don't think it's quite that prevalent.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: Um, maybe it's becoming more so.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: But tell me a little bit about what's going on with homeopathy in the UK.
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: And the royal family, I've got insider knowledge.
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, I mean, homeopathy, I mean there's not a pharmacy in every corner, uh, homeopathic.
- 32:05SPEAKER_02: I mean, there is in India, you go to India, there's a homeopathic pharmacy in every corner.
- 32:08SPEAKER_02: And I spent uh a lot of time in India doing homeopathy.
- 32:12SPEAKER_02: Um yes, the royal, as you mentioned, the royal family.
- 32:16SPEAKER_02: There's a the the two main, well, three major clinics, sorry, major pharmacies in London is Ainsworth's pharmacy, and they have the royal warrants.
- 32:24SPEAKER_02: They have the royal warrants of the king, uh, they had the royal warrants of the late Queen Elizabeth and her mother, Queen Anna to be a great age.
- 32:31SPEAKER_02: In fact, the Queen used to um always carry her homeopathic remedy kit wherever she went, and she'd send it into Ainsworth to be filled up.
- 32:39SPEAKER_02: Um, so a big advocate.
- 32:40SPEAKER_02: And in fact, the king, King Charles, he is the patron of the faculty of homeopathy.
- 32:45SPEAKER_02: Um so he's a big, big supporter of homeopathy.
- 32:48SPEAKER_02: So that's Ainsworth Clinic.
- 32:49SPEAKER_02: Uh sorry, Ainsworth Pharmacy.
- 32:50SPEAKER_02: Then you've got uh Helios Pharmacy um as well in Covent Garden, um, and that they're huge again, all over.
- 32:59SPEAKER_02: And then you have uh Nelson's pharmacy, which was the original pharmacy uh in London in 1834.
- 33:04SPEAKER_02: I think it was um it was established.
- 33:07SPEAKER_02: So there's been a bit rich history there, but you can get it in health food stores, obviously.
- 33:12SPEAKER_02: Uh it used to be in place like Boots, I think it's coming back into Boots now.
- 33:16SPEAKER_02: So it is it is easily available, but most people either go buy online now, they're buy the remnants online, I think.
- 33:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I as I said earlier, I see there's a huge demand in homeopathy for people.
- 33:27SPEAKER_02: I've never known it like this, and I've done it as I was mentioned earlier, a long, long time.
- 33:32SPEAKER_02: This is a this is a golden age.
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: Uh I mean I I I have a waiting list of patients, I can't take out any more clients, and that's a story you'll hear all the time.
- 33:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because the demand is outstripping the supply of good homeopaths.
- 33:45SPEAKER_02: But we need homeopaths that have got a good solid training.
- 33:49SPEAKER_02: As I said, that's really, really important.
- 33:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know.
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: Um so I think a lot of times because you can purchase homeopathy um over the counter, that there's um this idea that um, oh well, you know, I'm just gonna try to, you know, uh bootstrap this myself and figure it out.
- 34:13SPEAKER_01: Um and uh and I think there's some benefit to that for moms with young kids where they're getting holds and and those kinds of things.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: I think, however, uh occasionally what I see is um people getting a little bit out of their depth.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: So I'd love for you to explain the difference between acute care versus more chronic care when it's really imperative that you see a homeopath.
- 34:42SPEAKER_02: Absolutely, yeah.
- 34:43SPEAKER_02: And uh it's a really good question.
- 34:45SPEAKER_02: The difference between is this acute or is this chronic?
- 34:48SPEAKER_02: And what does that mean?
- 34:49SPEAKER_02: Well, acute things like coughs, colds, headaches, influenzas, those sort of things.
- 34:55SPEAKER_02: And there's a lot of things that you can actually do at home.
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: I mean, I used to I start off my homeopathic career running a mother-and-baby clinic or mother-owned kids clinic.
- 35:04SPEAKER_02: And I used to do little courses for my parents because I figured out if I could teach them how to use remedies or the remedy, especially in a remedy kit, which I would say everybody who've got kids, or anybody actually, but especially you've got children, you need to have a remedy kit.
- 35:19SPEAKER_02: We have one on the car, we have one, we're everywhere we travel.
- 35:22SPEAKER_02: Because if you teach people how to use the remedies, um then you can see how the remedies work on the body, and it gets people connected back to their family's health.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: If we're always running for the to the doctors all the time for the slightest cough, cold, whatever, we're giving our power away, and I think that's what's happened.
- 35:39SPEAKER_02: I mean, years ago, you know, when we lived in probably much more sort of closer to our families, you know, the grandmother would be there and and or the great-grandmother, you know, that they'd seen things before, that they had experience, they knew what to give or how to handle situations in acutes and chronics that have their own home remedies as well.
- 35:57SPEAKER_02: So a lot of this is being forgotten.
- 35:58SPEAKER_02: And I think often the fear that comes from people about a cough or a cold and they run to the ER or A and E here in the UK, it's because of lack of knowledge, that's all.
- 36:08SPEAKER_02: So I think the more that we empower people, especially families, this is my big thing.
- 36:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, I've got kids, you know.
- 36:14SPEAKER_02: The big thing that I I feel strongly about is empowering families and to take charge of the health.
- 36:19SPEAKER_02: Now I generally find it's the mother that that mommy holds that within the family.
- 36:24SPEAKER_02: Um, I you know, I'm not seeing anything out of term, but this is just my experience.
- 36:28SPEAKER_02: And that's why I wrote my book, Homeopathy at Home, uh published by Hay House, because I wanted to get people to use it.
- 36:37SPEAKER_02: Because when you when you use it, you see the action of it.
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: You know, when you treat a child for a fever, um, and you're giving a remedy like belladonna or whatever the remedies indicate, by the way, it's not always belladonna for everybody, there's other remedies for fevers.
- 36:51SPEAKER_02: You really see the action of the remedy.
- 36:53SPEAKER_02: And normally the difference between an acute and a chronic, an acute has a beginning, a middle, and an end.
- 36:58SPEAKER_02: Okay, it has a beginning, middle, and the end.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: Like a curve, it's like a bell curve.
- 37:03SPEAKER_02: And and then you've got a chronic, which is um just a very long-standing and it just goes on, and and you know, things don't ever really recover, and actually the health goes downhill, vitality goes downhill, never resolves itself.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: Rather, and acute, it will resolve itself.
- 37:19SPEAKER_02: So I would say to anybody listening, you know, get yourself a really good home prescriber book.
- 37:26SPEAKER_02: Obviously, I'm gonna reckon my mind.
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: Absolutely, um, but but also um I would say, you know, get to learn the remedies.
- 37:35SPEAKER_02: So, like in my book, I made it simple.
- 37:37SPEAKER_02: So, you know, you go to coughs, and there's like the top five remedies for coughs and how to differentiate between those coughs, um, top five remedies for cystitis, top whatever it is, but but you learn homeopy by doing it.
- 37:49SPEAKER_02: And I and I as I talk in the book, I mentioned about how to give the remedy.
- 37:53SPEAKER_02: I mentioned before about the key and the ignition.
- 37:56SPEAKER_02: You give the remedy, and I would say when you're first learning, and this is really important, use one remedy at a time so you learn the action of the remedy.
- 38:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because remember that that remedy is just a key to a lot, your body's doing all the healing, yeah, it's stimulating your vital force we call it in homeopathy, or your qi in Chinese medicine, or your prawn in Ayurveda.
- 38:18SPEAKER_02: It's just it's like a little stimulus.
- 38:21SPEAKER_02: So you give a dose, and you'll see this beautifully with children.
- 38:24SPEAKER_02: I mean, they react so well, their vital force is so strong.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: You'll see a reaction or not, if it doesn't do anything, then you may try the same remedy again, but you're missing something here, and it's like why you like a detective.
- 38:37SPEAKER_02: So getting that information, I talk about in the book how to get that information, so you can make a really good choice.
- 38:43SPEAKER_02: But if you give the remedy and like there's a reaction to it, so for example, often with kids, and you probably agree with this, Aaron, you give especially young kids, you give them a remedy, they fall asleep.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they go into that heating space.
- 38:55SPEAKER_02: And so, you know, they could be all lethargic on this on the sofa, and they're like, Oh, they've got a bit of mucus, and they've got a cold and it's bland yellow, and you you give them pulsatilla, which is an indication for that bland weepy, clingy.
- 39:08SPEAKER_02: We've all been there with our kids clingy, weepy.
- 39:10SPEAKER_02: And you give them the remedy, they fall asleep.
- 39:12SPEAKER_02: And then they wake up and they see brighter, they ask for something to eat, the made you a really big cough, and all this gunk comes up, and then it and they move on.
- 39:21SPEAKER_02: So it's it's you've got to follow it, it's like I said, being a detective, you've got to follow what the person is doing after giving the remedy.
- 39:29SPEAKER_02: Now, if they're better, you don't need to repeat the remedy until they go down again.
- 39:33SPEAKER_02: And you still indicate like the key and the lock to the ignition again.
- 39:37SPEAKER_02: You know, just let the body do the work.
- 39:39SPEAKER_02: And I think that's a good explanation.
- 39:41SPEAKER_02: But then put that sorry, the most important point, which you did ask me, um, when to refer.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: So I would say if things aren't resolving, like you may try two or three remedies and things aren't resolving, always, especially parents now, always trust your intuition.
- 39:56SPEAKER_02: Okay, always trust your intuition.
- 39:58SPEAKER_02: If you feel that you need to get help, get help.
- 40:01SPEAKER_02: Give remedies on the way, but get help if you need it.
- 40:03SPEAKER_02: But I'd rather trust a mother's intuition much more than I trust any doctor and thing.
- 40:07SPEAKER_02: You know your children more than anybody.
- 40:09SPEAKER_02: So I would say getting powered around that.
- 40:12SPEAKER_02: But like I say, if you try to remedy, it's not working, it's not resolving, or you know, this cough or cold is going on for too long, and you know, maybe a week is this all, go and see your homeopath.
- 40:22SPEAKER_02: They may need another remedy.
- 40:23SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah.
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: I don't know if that answers your question.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, it's interesting because um a lot of times I'll get um parents who get into this and they're still in the allopathic mindset.
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: Um, and so uh they'll they'll have their remedy kit, they're familiar with what the remedies do, but something happens and all of a sudden they become like some hyper-prescribing like maniac, right?
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: They're giving their kid a new remedy every 15 minutes, and I'm like, slow down.
- 41:00SPEAKER_01: Like you need to uh understand that we have to have patience and look for what the response to the remedy is before we start dosing a new remedy.
- 41:12SPEAKER_02: Well the thing is, what happens is it's like if the if the put the child or the and it's not with the kids but with the parents, if you haven't if you haven't changed within one minute 43 seconds on to the next remedy.
- 41:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's like you have to have patience.
- 41:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's like you just see the action of the remedy, as you said.
- 41:27SPEAKER_02: It's like, you know, it's so you can give the remedy, say somebody's got a headache and he gave them gel semi, as I mentioned, or brony or whatever the remedy is, check in with them half an hour later.
- 41:37SPEAKER_02: Hey, how are you feeling?
- 41:40SPEAKER_02: And they'll tell you either oh actually it feels a lot better, thank you.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 41:45SPEAKER_02: Um I might go for a walk now, you know, or whatever.
- 41:48SPEAKER_02: Great, you don't need to repeat the remedy.
- 41:51SPEAKER_02: Actually, you know what, it was really good, but now I think it's time to come back and it's all the same as it was.
- 41:55SPEAKER_02: Great, repeat the remedy.
- 41:58SPEAKER_02: If there's no change, it still looks like it's a remedy, give it again just to make sure, but then give another half an hour, there's no change, you may need to look again and see what other remedy uh you may have missed.
- 42:10SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I mean you don't need to it's a bit I always think it's a bit like the thing about acupuncture.
- 42:15SPEAKER_02: You go see an acupuncture and they put the needle in into the into the acupuncture point on the meridian, you know, they they don't keep putting the needle, they put it in there to let the flow, the cheetah start to flow.
- 42:26SPEAKER_02: So you know, homeopathy is gentle, it's like we're just giving it a stimulus, it's like just turning the key.
- 42:31SPEAKER_02: If you keep turning the key in in the ignition, it's gonna start grinding the in grinding the ignition.
- 42:36SPEAKER_02: You don't need to keep doing that.
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: So you're right, there's a really different mentality.
- 42:41SPEAKER_02: Well, allopathic medicine is very you're gonna do that hard.
- 42:45SPEAKER_02: Homeopathy is more gentle than that.
- 42:47SPEAKER_02: We're doing a dance, we're doing more of a dance, and we're trying to follow what the what the body's doing.
- 42:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and utilizing those symptoms as a guide, right?
- 42:57SPEAKER_01: I think sometimes people they they freak out.
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: So for example, um, I've had parents say, Well, I gave a dose of belladonna and and their fever went from 99 to 101.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, well, you know, it's only been 30 minutes, you know, like let's just on that bell curve.
- 43:18SPEAKER_01: Yes, exactly, exactly.
- 43:20SPEAKER_01: Um, but you see the the movement, and that, you know, typically that means that the body is pushing out what it's trying to, you know, it's the immune system actually functioning properly.
- 43:33SPEAKER_01: So we don't necessarily want to stop that from happening, but you know, I think a lot of times it really does come from fear, especially for parents, especially for new parents.
- 43:43SPEAKER_01: And I get that, I understand.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:47SPEAKER_02: Um sorry I'm too interrupted, but this is what I'm saying about if you had a grandmother there or it's like you that they've seen it before, they've gone through it, that they have they they have that experience where, but like you said, that that spiking of the fever is actually the body trying to do something.
- 44:02SPEAKER_02: It gets complicated, complications come often when you're trying to suppress it.
- 44:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and so you're trying to suppress it, and you're doing homeopy, and you're trying to suppress this.
- 44:11SPEAKER_02: Is when the complications come because the body's trying to do one thing and you're trying to stop it on the other side.
- 44:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:16SPEAKER_02: And you're driving it deeper there.
- 44:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, especially so for people that are new, um, and they'll they might give a remedy and then they have that panic moment, and then they'll give something suppressive, like an anvil or something.
- 44:31SPEAKER_01: Um, and it uh, you know, it they want to bring the fever down.
- 44:37SPEAKER_01: I think the best um it's really about understanding that homeopathy is a different paradigm.
- 44:45SPEAKER_01: We want to elicit an immune response because we want the immune system to be fully functioning.
- 44:51SPEAKER_01: That's what it's there for.
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: And sometimes that looks like symptoms.
- 44:55SPEAKER_02: Um another thing to see, well, I know, especially when I ran my mother and baby clinic, and I've seen it, you know, uh anyway in in practice, is that the more you'll get your your immune system or vital forces we call it, the more that you stimulate it, the stronger it becomes.
- 45:13SPEAKER_02: And it's like going down the gym, the more that you use that muscle.
- 45:16SPEAKER_02: And the the stronger it becomes.
- 45:18SPEAKER_02: It's the same with our systems.
- 45:20SPEAKER_02: If you keep suppressing symptoms or taking antibiotic and all these things, the body doesn't do its work and it becomes actually weaker and weaker and weaker.
- 45:31SPEAKER_02: So you're not doing it any favors.
- 45:33SPEAKER_02: The more that we can strengthen it, and that's what homeopathy without I see it with these kids who'd had homeopathy most of their lives, their immune system was so strong.
- 45:42SPEAKER_02: You know, they things they still get things, kids get things all the time.
- 45:45SPEAKER_02: That's not a bad thing, but the ability to bounce back was stronger.
- 45:49SPEAKER_02: And then we do stronger fevers, and then we do stronger, you know, whatever acute they did, it was always stronger because they had that ability to do it.
- 45:57SPEAKER_02: And you'll see that change of the seasons coming out of the equinox.
- 46:00SPEAKER_02: I can tell you now, kids going back to school, this is when you see people getting sick, you know, and not everybody will get sick, but people will, and that is because there's a change going on.
- 46:10SPEAKER_02: Every equinox is the same: 21st of September, 21st of December, 21st of March, 21st of June.
- 46:16SPEAKER_02: Those equinoxes, and what it is, it's a shift and it's a change on the macro level, on the on the earth level.
- 46:23SPEAKER_02: And health is our ability to adapt to change.
- 46:26SPEAKER_02: So the more healthy or strong our constitution is, which homeopathy does it strengthens our constitution, the more when there's a change of weather or change of season, we don't get sick.
- 46:39SPEAKER_02: It's like we've we we've got that ability to adapt.
- 46:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I couldn't agree more.
- 46:45SPEAKER_01: All right, Marcus.
- 46:46SPEAKER_01: So this has gone by so fast.
- 46:52SPEAKER_01: I get excited talking homeapathy, but anyway.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: All right, so um I ask every single one of our guests eight rapid fire questions.
- 47:02SPEAKER_01: These questions are designed to give us a little bit more insight into who you are and what makes you tick.
- 47:08SPEAKER_01: So are you ready?
- 47:10SPEAKER_02: I'm ready.
- 47:11SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: Uh, number one, if you could choose only one natural remedy for the rest of your life, what would it be?
- 47:17SPEAKER_02: Uh to take or to have?
- 47:20SPEAKER_01: Uh, I don't know.
- 47:21SPEAKER_01: I had never been asked.
- 47:23SPEAKER_02: Well, I think to have.
- 47:24SPEAKER_02: I say the remedy, the remedy I would have if I was on a desert island or whatever life was one remedy, it's got to be arnica.
- 47:30SPEAKER_02: You know, arnica to me is the universal remedy.
- 47:33SPEAKER_02: Most people have actually heard of arnica.
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: Um, and it's just an amazing remedy for trauma, be it physical trauma, be it mental and emotional trauma.
- 47:42SPEAKER_02: And it's the one remedy often that gets people into homeopathy more than anything.
- 47:46SPEAKER_02: He actually saved my, I say it saved my life when I had a serious uh head injury.
- 47:51SPEAKER_02: Um, and my wife administered Arnica to me 30C.
- 47:55SPEAKER_02: That's all she had at the time.
- 47:57SPEAKER_02: And uh that it was amazing.
- 47:59SPEAKER_02: It was that definitely without doubt saved my life.
- 48:01SPEAKER_02: So I have to say Arnica.
- 48:03SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 48:04SPEAKER_01: All right, number two, tell us something most people don't know about you.
- 48:09SPEAKER_02: Um, people don't know about me.
- 48:11SPEAKER_02: Um I think I I'm I'm I'm a sort of introverted extrovert, so um, you know, it's sort of I actually like my own space and my own time.
- 48:22SPEAKER_02: And uh yeah, that's that's really important to me.
- 48:25SPEAKER_02: And especially because I do a lot of teaching and uh and work like that and a lot of pushing out that I like solitude um and I like time to to sort of recharge.
- 48:35SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I think sometimes people think I'm a complete extrovert.
- 48:38SPEAKER_02: I'm an introverted extrovert.
- 48:40SPEAKER_01: That's so funny, and me too.
- 48:41SPEAKER_01: I'm um uh all right, uh, number three.
- 48:46SPEAKER_01: If I were to compile a playlist of happy music, what song would you suggest be added?
- 48:52SPEAKER_02: It's gotta be Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles.
- 48:56SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 48:57SPEAKER_02: Um, it's just such a beautiful song, and it's very hard to not to be feel uplifted by that.
- 49:02SPEAKER_02: And I'm a big George Harrison fan anyway, but it's a beautifully to me, it's almost like a perfect song put together.
- 49:08SPEAKER_02: It's a beautiful song.
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 49:10SPEAKER_01: I'm a big Beatles fan.
- 49:11SPEAKER_01: I saw Paul McCartney uh a couple years ago.
- 49:13SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yes, yes.
- 49:17SPEAKER_01: All right, number four.
- 49:18SPEAKER_01: What's your favorite guilty pleasure?
- 49:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, it'd have to be an Indian takeaway on a Friday night.
- 49:25SPEAKER_01: Anything in particular, a little tickamus office.
- 49:28SPEAKER_02: I'm a vegetarian, so I I like dal.
- 49:31SPEAKER_02: I like I love um oh what's he called?
- 49:34SPEAKER_02: Um, well, I love like uh I don't know if you have in the US, Balties, vegetable bulti, it's a particular dish in I think it's actually more English than anything else.
- 49:43SPEAKER_02: Um panaya, I love pinilla, the cheese panea, so yeah.
- 49:46SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 49:48SPEAKER_01: Well, I I think the UK has way better Indian food than than we do.
- 49:55SPEAKER_02: Although the rest of the most popular food in the UK, the survey.
- 49:59SPEAKER_02: Well, uh, and and for good reason because the rest of the food in the UK is I'd say if you ever in England go to Birmingham, they are the best Baltees in the UK.
- 50:08SPEAKER_02: Birmingham's great.
- 50:09SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 50:10SPEAKER_01: All right, number five, what is the most influential book you've ever read?
- 50:15SPEAKER_02: God, uh, that is a big one.
- 50:19SPEAKER_02: I'd have to say the book that actually got me to go to, I was doing my part-time training in homeopathy, and then I read this book and I went and transferred to the full-time training in London.
- 50:28SPEAKER_02: Uh, I'd have to say Awaken the Giant Within by Anthony Robbins.
- 50:32SPEAKER_02: Uh, that got me and my friend to London, and uh yeah, that was uh a great book.
- 50:36SPEAKER_02: I don't think I read all of it, but I read enough so that really inspired me.
- 50:40SPEAKER_01: So funny.
- 50:40SPEAKER_01: I think I read that when I was like 17.
- 50:43SPEAKER_01: Um in it.
- 50:45SPEAKER_01: Big deal.
- 50:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, awesome.
- 50:48SPEAKER_01: All right, what does the word revolution mean to you?
- 50:52SPEAKER_02: I think it revolution means a sort of fundamental shift in the way that that we think, and I think we definitely need that in health.
- 51:00SPEAKER_02: I think we I think we need a complete rethink and and paradigm shift around, you know, I'm talking about sort of majority of of healthcare and the orthodox healthcare.
- 51:10SPEAKER_02: Um so it's I think it needs to move from just managing an illness much more about getting people to take charge of our own health and well-being.
- 51:21SPEAKER_02: Um and I think there's been too much, and we have this to me in the UK within NHS, it can be a great thing, but also it can keep people I think stuck and giving away uh power when it comes to health and well-being.
- 51:33SPEAKER_02: I've worked in private practice, I've worked in the NHS doing homeopathy, and I can tell you there's a huge difference.
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely, that's such a great point.
- 51:42SPEAKER_01: All right, what does the word remedy mean to you?
- 51:47SPEAKER_02: God, what does the word remedy mean to you?
- 51:50SPEAKER_02: I think it's about a remedy I think what the word remedy to me is about restoring equilibrium within within the within the body, you know, within the within the vital force.
- 52:01SPEAKER_02: Um and really getting people to reconnect to that capacity to heal.
- 52:06SPEAKER_02: Um again, I that's what I see with homeopathy.
- 52:09SPEAKER_02: So it's not like the pill does the curing, like in allopathic medicine.
- 52:12SPEAKER_02: No, I take this pill, but to me, it's stimulating the body to heal itself.
- 52:17SPEAKER_02: And that to me, that's what a true remedy is.
- 52:20SPEAKER_02: It's about trying to restore that.
- 52:22SPEAKER_02: I don't know, say we I don't like the use of the word balance, it's overuse.
- 52:25SPEAKER_02: That equilibrium, that homeostatus within the vital force, which is the mental, emotional as well as physical.
- 52:33SPEAKER_01: All right, and lastly, if you could impart one piece of wisdom onto our listeners, what would that be?
- 52:40SPEAKER_02: Um never, never ever hand over complete responsibility, you know, for your health or for your life to somebody else.
- 52:48SPEAKER_02: You know, we need you need to trust your own you know intelligence, you need to trust your own intuition.
- 52:56SPEAKER_02: All the healing wisdom you're ever gonna need is within you.
- 52:59SPEAKER_02: And another part of wisdom, which I love this quote, um, I live by this quote really, is we don't see how things are, we see things as we are.
- 53:12SPEAKER_02: We don't see how things are, we see things as we are.
- 53:15SPEAKER_02: And I think that's that's again another second two piece of wisdom there.
- 53:22SPEAKER_01: Well, awesome.
- 53:24SPEAKER_01: Okay, Marquez, tell people where they can find you, where can where can they buy your book, um, where can they learn more about the Center for Homeopathic Education.
- 53:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so I'm sure you can put this in the show notes, but um, you go to uh comeopathy.com.
- 53:40SPEAKER_02: Uh that's our that's our academy, our training academy.
- 53:43SPEAKER_02: You can do it in the classroom in London, you can do it online, you can do all the courses like that before practitioner training, or we do foundation courses.
- 53:50SPEAKER_02: And also, I'd say to everybody, please do the uh home prescribing course with Hell of Eagles.
- 53:54SPEAKER_02: It's free, it's on our website.
- 53:55SPEAKER_02: Uh please, I would definitely do that.
- 53:57SPEAKER_02: And again, uh everyone will put it in the show notes.
- 53:59SPEAKER_02: Uh and my book, Homeopathy at home, you can get it, you can get it on Amazon, uh, you can get it in bookstores in America, uh, published by Hey House.
- 54:07SPEAKER_02: Um, and also in here, uh there's there's a little QR codes where it gives you access to actually the home prescribing course, but also to my little AI clone called As Marcus, which has got all my videos, all my books, everything in there, and you can use it on your mobile, whatever, and you can ask me questions that I speak in any language.
- 54:26SPEAKER_02: Um, I've had this now for three years.
- 54:28SPEAKER_02: Um, I got into AI very quickly, but it's great to use for acutes and and uh anytime day or night.
- 54:34SPEAKER_02: So you can speak to me, you can WhatsApp it, me.
- 54:37SPEAKER_02: It's all based on my information, and it'll tell you when you need to refer as well.
- 54:41SPEAKER_02: Uh, so a lot of people use it.
- 54:42SPEAKER_02: Uh, I've got over 3,000 people using it at the moment around the world.
- 54:45SPEAKER_02: So it's a great little resource for you.
- 54:47SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, that's it.
- 54:49SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 54:50SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 54:51SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much for listening.
- 54:53SPEAKER_01: Thank you, Marcus, for being here today.
- 54:56SPEAKER_01: It's been such a pleasure and an honor because um this is, you know, some of these interviews go by uh quickly.
- 55:04SPEAKER_01: This one went by lightning speed.
- 55:06SPEAKER_01: So um please, for anybody listening who wants more information, go to the website, definitely uh start uh Hillary's course.
- 55:15SPEAKER_01: Hillary was one of my mentors, one of my teachers.
- 55:18SPEAKER_01: She's amazing.
- 55:19SPEAKER_01: Uh, I can't recommend her enough.
- 55:22SPEAKER_01: I cannot recommend getting the book.
- 55:24SPEAKER_01: Understanding homeopathy acutely is imperative, moving into the future.
- 55:30SPEAKER_01: If you want healthy kiddos um and healthy families, thank you all for listening.
- 55:36SPEAKER_01: We will see you all next time.
- 55:38SPEAKER_01: Take care.
