- 1:01Speaker 1: on the show. I'm your host, bo Bounds straight funk
- 1:04Speaker 1: running the uh he's flying the plane. And because Bar
- 1:08Speaker 1: two and I are on remote at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club,
- 1:11Speaker 1: I think the I think the iPad moved again. Unbelievable.
- 1:16Speaker 1: We are on remoted Dancing Rabbit. I need a bloody Mary.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Uh what is going on? Uh? Dancing Rabbit Golf Club,
- 1:24Speaker 1: Dancing Rabbit golf dot com to book your stay and play.
- 1:27Speaker 1: We were doing, ah well. We did a segment or
- 1:31Speaker 1: show on John David Baker and Jeff Levy and the
- 1:36Speaker 1: numbers are better for John David Baker is oh see
- 1:39Speaker 1: a little.
- 1:40Speaker 3: A little bit, a little bit again, like I said,
- 1:42Speaker 3: the floor is what concerns me.
- 1:45Speaker 1: With Levy with because he's had two stinkers in four years, you.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Know, and again is depends on how you know beauty
- 1:54Speaker 3: in the eye of the beholder, you know, on something
- 1:57Speaker 3: like that, you know how how much of a stink
- 2:00Speaker 3: or they are.
- 2:00Speaker 1: So I do think a six foot four, two hundred
- 2:03Speaker 1: and thirty pound quarterback who can actually run in his
- 2:06Speaker 1: mobile and has the ability to extend plays and by
- 2:11Speaker 1: time could make Jeff Levi's numbers a little bit better,
- 2:18Speaker 1: a lot better.
- 2:19Speaker 3: And you look inside the numbers. He wants to run
- 2:21Speaker 3: the ball right right, I mean, which is a good thing.
- 2:23Speaker 3: You know, it's a great thing, especially in the SEC.
- 2:26Speaker 3: You know, you look at your you look at your
- 2:28Speaker 3: best offensive play callers in the SEC.
- 2:31Speaker 2: You're successful guys.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Okay, and you know Now, last year, I will give
- 2:37Speaker 3: you Vanderbilt was run on a passing game in Pavia. Okay,
- 2:42Speaker 3: but you go after that, and I don't know how
- 2:45Speaker 3: long that sort of offense is sustainable at Vanderbilt, right right,
- 2:49Speaker 3: And so you look at bigger samples.
- 2:52Speaker 1: But what they did, I think is they did what
- 2:55Speaker 1: worked for Diego. So give Tim Beck and Jerry kill
- 3:00Speaker 1: at it, right.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you know they morphed into what he could do, Yeah,
- 3:05Speaker 3: what they felt he could do.
- 3:07Speaker 2: But then you look at your much much better.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Sample sizes, your your guys have been doing a long time, right.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Uh. And you look at Hypel loves to pound the run.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Okay. You look at Lane Kiffen. We talked about it.
- 3:24Speaker 3: We talked about it yesterday. Third, medium, third and long.
- 3:28Speaker 3: He had more runs run pass ratio, more runs than
- 3:31Speaker 3: anybody else in the SEC.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Let's say that again, right, Lane Kiffen, Third and short.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Third medium, so third and three to four, five and
- 3:41Speaker 3: six right, third and seventy nine tens.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Oh, he had more third and.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Eleven plus his rush to pass ratio. His percentage was
- 3:49Speaker 3: the highest in the SEC in all of those categories.
- 3:51Speaker 1: That tells me Lane's playing two downs at third down.
- 3:54Speaker 1: So he's like, hey, if we can rip off six here,
- 3:57Speaker 1: then I'm going forward on fourth and three. Yeah, and
- 4:01Speaker 1: we may run it again.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Yeah, And I haven't run his numbers on fourth down, right,
- 4:05Speaker 3: that would be really the big question.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Sure, you know what really you know? Is he playing
- 4:12Speaker 2: for two like that?
- 4:12Speaker 3: What we did discover though, is in his tempo is
- 4:16Speaker 3: he is very methodical. In the first he is much
- 4:19Speaker 3: more under control than a lot of guys. First, second,
- 4:22Speaker 3: third quarter tempo is pretty much the same thing. Stays
- 4:26Speaker 3: in the game or just naturally takes the lead, and
- 4:29Speaker 3: then fourth quarter starts to push the tempo, push the
- 4:34Speaker 3: pressure and and ramp it up. Whether he's leading or trailing,
- 4:40Speaker 3: it almost seems like he just starts putting on the
- 4:42Speaker 3: gas to either catch up and win a game or
- 4:46Speaker 3: finish somebody off and take the game. Because, as we know,
- 4:49Speaker 3: in the SEC you play to lose, you're going to.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Lose, right right, Yeah, that's what you have to go
- 4:54Speaker 2: get the dub, right, especially on the road.
- 4:56Speaker 3: You got you you have to try to make it
- 4:59Speaker 3: happen in that manner.
- 5:01Speaker 2: So and he was.
- 5:02Speaker 1: He lost one home game in the last three years
- 5:08Speaker 1: of his time in Oxford. He lost to Kentucky.
- 5:12Speaker 2: That's it.
- 5:13Speaker 1: So that is that's incredible defending your home field and
- 5:17Speaker 1: losing one time in three years.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Right, there's that.
- 5:21Speaker 3: And the one of the big reasons he lost to
- 5:23Speaker 3: Kentucky is he could not find the momentum game control
- 5:27Speaker 3: he needed. So in his career, when he doesn't have
- 5:31Speaker 3: momentum game control in his possession for the game, he
- 5:34Speaker 3: doesn't have peak game control. He is one in sixteen,
- 5:37Speaker 3: So he has to find it somewhere in the first
- 5:41Speaker 3: you know, somewhere in the game. He has to find
- 5:44Speaker 3: that that momentum. He doesn't recover from it, neither is Kirby.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Kirby only has one win in his career when he
- 5:50Speaker 3: doesn't have peak game control. So but with Kiffen, I
- 5:55Speaker 3: do love the numbers showing that he is when he
- 5:58Speaker 3: is leading in the fourth quarter, he actually picks the
- 6:01Speaker 3: tempo up to put more pressure on a team to
- 6:05Speaker 3: try to stay with him, you know. But I think
- 6:08Speaker 3: that is his experience, that's an experienced play call or
- 6:12Speaker 3: knowing that you know, in this scenario, I can put
- 6:15Speaker 3: more pressure and try to force mistakes by running the game,
- 6:20Speaker 3: you know, in the manner that he calls it.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Day bar two on the Out of Bound Show live
- 6:25Speaker 1: from Dancing Rabbit Golf Club. This is ESPN one oh
- 6:29Speaker 1: five nine The Zone. It is crazy that for decades
- 6:33Speaker 1: we didn't talk about play callers. And now how much
- 6:37Speaker 1: you and I talk about it, how many great and
- 6:38Speaker 1: you have grades on everybody, and how important it is
- 6:42Speaker 1: as inn oc and DC and then you decided whatever
- 6:44Speaker 1: that was, to really put an emphasis on red zone
- 6:50Speaker 1: play calling.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Right, Ray, can you punch? I mean, can you get points? Right?
- 6:54Speaker 3: You know there there's a convert It's it's like explosive plays.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Everybody talks about explosive plays, and explosive plays is actually
- 7:01Speaker 3: split into two important categories, non scoring and scoring.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Right, if you.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Lead an if you lead an explosive scoring plays, you're
- 7:09Speaker 3: winning eighty plus percent of the games.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Leading in non scoring explosive plays, especially when you're on
- 7:16Speaker 3: the road in college football, you only win about fifty
- 7:18Speaker 3: five percent of the time. Okay, So there is a
- 7:21Speaker 3: huge difference between that scoring explosive scoring play and punching
- 7:24Speaker 3: it in and just the explosive scoring play. Ben, don't break.
- 7:30Speaker 1: You know, I feel like the last couple of years,
- 7:32Speaker 1: every and I'm my eyes our eyes fullest, right, we
- 7:36Speaker 1: think we know what we're seeing on game day. But
- 7:38Speaker 1: I feel like as I watch Lane Kiffin that every time,
- 7:44Speaker 1: not every time, there's like a large percent of the time,
- 7:47Speaker 1: which would even be like twenty to thirty percent, but
- 7:49Speaker 1: it feels like thirty forty fifty percent that people are
- 7:52Speaker 1: just running wide open when he calls plays. Yeah, I
- 7:55Speaker 1: know I'm going overboard, right, but it feels like that,
- 7:58Speaker 1: like all the sudden, udden he calls a play and
- 8:03Speaker 1: there's a wide receiver tied end wide open.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it just it just it's you don't know what
- 8:08Speaker 2: the numbers are.
- 8:09Speaker 3: You just feel that he has more guys get wide
- 8:12Speaker 3: open right than than you know. And so somewhere in
- 8:15Speaker 3: the design right and the coaching of his offense, he's
- 8:19Speaker 3: able to get the guys wide open in the structure
- 8:21Speaker 3: of the game.
- 8:22Speaker 1: But you remember what we talked about last night at
- 8:24Speaker 1: Philip Ems is also the players absolutely believe that those
- 8:28Speaker 1: play plays are going to work. And there is something to.
- 8:31Speaker 3: That, right, They're they're the mental component right there, the
- 8:33Speaker 3: intangible like you can't put a number on it, like.
- 8:37Speaker 1: We're good and we know we call that. Our coach
- 8:39Speaker 1: calls all these good plays and I'm going to be open,
- 8:41Speaker 1: right and the quarterback is going to deliver the football.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Right, and I'm gonna catch it right right, you know.
- 8:47Speaker 3: And so it's it's it's complimentary football, right, I mean,
- 8:50Speaker 3: you have the offense has to support the defense. The
- 8:53Speaker 3: defense has to support the offense because the scoreboard is
- 8:56Speaker 3: equal on both sides, right, Well, the home team doesn't
- 8:59Speaker 3: get eight points for.
- 9:00Speaker 2: A touchdown, they still get seven, right, right, you know.
- 9:02Speaker 2: And so.
- 9:05Speaker 3: You know, it's that emphasis on complimentary football and then
- 9:07Speaker 3: the emphasis on being able to trust the teammates. You
- 9:11Speaker 3: have to have everybody all on the same page for
- 9:14Speaker 3: that full strength. It's the same thing with your program.
- 9:18Speaker 3: You have to have the fans believe the head coach.
- 9:20Speaker 3: You have, the staff has to believe the head coach,
- 9:21Speaker 3: the boosters, the players, everybody has to believe in the
- 9:25Speaker 3: culture and concept to be at maximum power.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Which is what happened under Kiffen and Mullen. Yeah at
- 9:31Speaker 1: Ole Miss even more so with Kiffen and Olmen. But
- 9:34Speaker 1: that's what happened in Oxford with Kithen and then start
- 9:38Speaker 1: Right and struggle with Dan to take it local right.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Everybody believe that when Dan or Lane walked on the
- 9:43Speaker 3: field there there, there probably came a point where you
- 9:46Speaker 3: were in that stadium and you're like, everybody is one
- 9:50Speaker 3: on the same page and believes we're going to win today,
- 9:53Speaker 3: right everybody right, I mean from the from the eighty
- 9:56Speaker 3: to the president, to the biggest boosters in the box,
- 9:58Speaker 3: to the best students the band to the third string guys.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Everybody is like, this is what we are going to
- 10:05Speaker 3: do to win this football game. And to me, it's
- 10:07Speaker 3: it's it's all that has to be connected.
