- 0:26Speaker 1: hit the practice field here on Wednesday for the first
- 0:28Speaker 1: time in advance of the game Saturday morning locally against
- 0:32Speaker 1: the Pittsburgh Steelers. Interestingly enough, as Mickey Loomis, Kellen Moore,
- 0:38Speaker 1: players met with reporters, Jordan Tyson, the Saints' first-round draft pick, who,
- 0:45Speaker 1: as we all know, injured his hamstring in camp, was
- 0:49Speaker 1: projected to be out two months, started the season on IR.
- 0:52Speaker 1: That window has passed, so he is now eligible to
- 0:55Speaker 1: return to practice. Mickey Loomis did mention, though, when he
- 1:01Speaker 1: met with reporters here on Wednesday, don't expect to see
- 1:04Speaker 1: Tyson on the practice field this week.
- 1:06Speaker 2: He's improving. He is not going to practice this week,
- 1:12Speaker 2: but he is improving, and we feel like we're getting closer. Now,
- 1:15Speaker 2: I don't have a specific timetable for that yet, but
- 1:18Speaker 2: we're encouraged.
- 1:20Speaker 1: They also... He was asked if they're being extra cautious
- 1:26Speaker 1: with Jordan Tyson.
- 1:27Speaker 2: I would say we're being probably a little more cautious
- 1:29Speaker 2: than we would ordinarily, but it's still the timeline's the timeline.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I can absolutely respect that. You have so much invested
- 1:42Speaker 1: in Jordan Tyson with a top 10 pick, eighth overall,
- 1:45Speaker 1: and you're dealing with an injury that we all know
- 1:48Speaker 1: you don't have to be– You don't have to be
- 1:51Speaker 1: a doctor to know. Just watch sports, and you see
- 1:55Speaker 1: the soft tissue injuries that you can have a recurrence.
- 1:57Speaker 1: We just... I mean, it's not an NFL play, but
- 2:01Speaker 1: we're seeing this right now at LSU with Sam Leavitt.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Injured the hamstring against Texas A & M, went through
- 2:07Speaker 1: a recovery, played in a limited capacity against Maine East,
- 2:10Speaker 1: and re-aggravated it against here this past week against Mississippi State. Like,
- 2:15Speaker 1: if you don't let it heal, it just continues to
- 2:17Speaker 1: perpetuate and be a problem. So... He's already missed the
- 2:20Speaker 1: first six games of the season. Let it heal. Be
- 2:25Speaker 1: really sure that it's right.
- 2:27Speaker 3: One more from.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Loomis who talked about weighing the risk-reward and the injury
- 2:33Speaker 1: risk there with Tyson.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Well, the injury that he has is not the same
- 2:37Speaker 2: injury that that he had before. So, I mean, those
- 2:40Speaker 2: can happen. They can happen to any player. You know,
- 2:42Speaker 2: it's unfortunate that it happened at the very beginning of
- 2:45Speaker 2: his career, but hopefully this is the one and only
- 2:48Speaker 2: injury that he has, and we're really encouraged by what
- 2:51Speaker 2: we saw in training camp when he was practicing before
- 2:53Speaker 2: he got injured, and we're looking forward to having him back.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I think that is absolutely the right way to go
- 3:01Speaker 1: about it. Be patient. Be diligent. Make sure he's healed
- 3:07Speaker 1: and ready to go before you, you run him out there.
- 3:11Speaker 1: So Kellen Moore was also, by the way, asked about, um,
- 3:17Speaker 1: about the timeline here for Jordan Tyson.
- 3:20Speaker 4: Mickey said, uh, Jordan won't practice this week.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Do you guys have any like idea on a timeline?
- 3:25Speaker 3: Is he going to start after the buys? Anything been
- 3:27Speaker 3: firmed up? Nothing, nothing locked in yet. Uh, yeah, he,
- 3:30Speaker 3: he won't practice this week. And, um, Yeah, obviously we
- 3:33Speaker 3: have a bye week after that, and so we'll kind
- 3:34Speaker 3: of see where everything is.
- 3:35Speaker 1: All right, getting close. So we'll see what this may
- 3:40Speaker 1: look like whenever they get Jordan Tyson back on the
- 3:43Speaker 1: practice field. I am eager... I'm in this weird spot
- 3:51Speaker 1: with New Orleans where I'm balancing my desire for them
- 3:58Speaker 1: to get everybody healthy because you are... In a terrible
- 4:03Speaker 1: division where you can very much go on a run.
- 4:06Speaker 1: I think it's very unlikely. I think Carolina is clearly
- 4:09Speaker 1: the class of this division right now. New Orleans at 2-4.
- 4:14Speaker 1: An underdog this week in Paris. They'll have an open date.
- 4:18Speaker 1: They're by before they come home to play Cleveland, where
- 4:20Speaker 1: they'll probably be a home favorite against Cleveland. And then
- 4:23Speaker 1: I don't know when they'll be favorite again. So they
- 4:27Speaker 1: won't be favorite at home against Carolina. They won't be
- 4:29Speaker 1: favorite at the Bears. They won't be favorite at the Bengals.
- 4:31Speaker 1: We know what's ahead. So I don't think this team
- 4:33Speaker 1: is going anywhere. I think this team will finish sub-500.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I think it might be similar to a year ago,
- 4:40Speaker 1: a 6-11 type season. You're picking the top 10 again.
- 4:45Speaker 1: But until that's the reality, you got a shot. So
- 4:48Speaker 1: I'm caught in this weird place of wanting Jordan Tyson
- 4:52Speaker 1: to get back out there and Kelvin Banks to get
- 4:54Speaker 1: back out there and Caden Ellis, who was out there today,
- 4:56Speaker 1: by the way, getting them out there to see this
- 4:58Speaker 1: team in whole so you can try to dig yourself
- 5:00Speaker 1: out of it. and wanting to see, like, just be patient,
- 5:04Speaker 1: because what you want to see is growth and development
- 5:05Speaker 1: and progress as you build for the future. So it's
- 5:08Speaker 1: an odd spot for New Orleans to be in right now,
- 5:10Speaker 1: and especially on the heels of Gail Benson's comments, where
- 5:13Speaker 1: she talked about how unacceptable this is, and she put
- 5:16Speaker 1: Kellen Moore and Mickey Loomis on blast, and put them
- 5:19Speaker 1: very much on notice, and they kind of feel like
- 5:21Speaker 1: they have to go win, but it's also a spot
- 5:24Speaker 1: where you realize you're playing the long game here in
- 5:27Speaker 1: New Orleans as well. So, also of note, out at
- 5:33Speaker 1: Saints practice here on Wednesday. Kellen Moore did mention that
- 5:37Speaker 1: Caden Ellis back at practice and what that means for
- 5:39Speaker 1: this team.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Yeah, Caden's obviously an important part to our defense. You know,
- 5:44Speaker 3: he was out there some today, and so that'll be
- 5:47Speaker 3: good to just see him out there and just see
- 5:48Speaker 3: how the rest of this week progresses. And, you know,
- 5:51Speaker 3: obviously he's done a great job at the start of
- 5:54Speaker 3: the season.
- 5:55Speaker 1: He also mentioned that Cesar Ruiz, remember, who left the
- 5:57Speaker 1: game against the Giants on Sunday. Ruiz did travel he's
- 6:03Speaker 1: day-to-day we'll see if it's Ruiz or if it's Jeremiah
- 6:06Speaker 1: Wright starting on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers so the
- 6:10Speaker 1: other component of this is New Orleans adjusting to the
- 6:14Speaker 1: time zone the time change are seven hours ahead in
- 6:17Speaker 1: Paris so it's 4 0 8 central time right now
- 6:20Speaker 1: it's 11 o'clock at night in Paris right now Tyler
- 6:23Speaker 1: Shuck was asked about that you gotta.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Stretch your stay up as long as you can when
- 6:27Speaker 4: we first land so trying to stay up later into
- 6:29Speaker 4: the night trying to stretch that out, and then that
- 6:32Speaker 4: way you can have a full night. Everybody's been different.
- 6:36Speaker 4: You talk to some people, it's like, man, I woke
- 6:38Speaker 4: up at 3 a.m., I got a good night's sleep,
- 6:42Speaker 4: but I think the biggest thing is game time, feeling
- 6:44Speaker 4: ready to go. That's what you want.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Cam Jordan also talked about adjusting to the time zone.
- 6:53Speaker 5: I think the Saints did a phenomenal job of getting
- 6:55Speaker 5: us here early enough to where we can have our
- 6:58Speaker 5: bodies adjust. As players, that If you would have asked
- 7:01Speaker 5: me to, like, you know, we came in Monday morning.
- 7:04Speaker 5: If you would have asked me, like, hey, be a
- 7:06Speaker 5: ball player yesterday, I'm not going to lie to you.
- 7:10Speaker 5: It wouldn't have happened. Like, I would have been out
- 7:11Speaker 5: there just looking like a jellyfish or something.
- 7:13Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 7:14Speaker 1: But because we've.
- 7:16Speaker 5: Had enough time, like, actually had a decent amount of
- 7:18Speaker 5: sleep last night, I felt better. So I can imagine
- 7:21Speaker 5: how I'll feel come Sunday.
- 7:23Speaker 1: All right. So the Saints getting ready. And obviously the
- 7:25Speaker 1: good news as well, when they come back, On the
- 7:27Speaker 1: other side of this, they'll go into their open date,
- 7:29Speaker 1: their bye, so it'll be an opportunity to get right
- 7:32Speaker 1: before you host Cleveland two weeks from Sunday.
