Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Still a bit of confusion this morning about what exactly
- 0:02Speaker 1: is and isn't happening re immigration in the India. FTA
- 0:06Speaker 1: Modi is expected to visit here this month. Winston's been
- 0:09Speaker 1: agitating about it.
- 0:10Speaker 2: The National Party has just changed its course, no doubt
- 0:13Speaker 2: due to poor poling. Immigration policy settings are being made
- 0:17Speaker 2: more restrictive in a way that which targets India and
- 0:20Speaker 2: India alone.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Now Erica Stanford's office has confirmed there are changes out
- 0:25Speaker 1: for consultation at the moment. Sunny Lamb, immigration expert at
- 0:28Speaker 1: Queen's City Law former immigration officer, joins us this morning say.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Good morning, good morning, are yes good.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Thank you? So what changes are they actually looking at?
- 0:36Speaker 1: Do we know.
- 0:38Speaker 3: At this stage not exactly sure, nothing is really reviewed
- 0:44Speaker 3: right now, but it does seem like there are going
- 0:46Speaker 3: to be specific restrictions targeted under the FDA with India.
- 0:51Speaker 1: And is that to do with bringing your husband, your wife,
- 0:55Speaker 1: your kids along with you?
- 0:57Speaker 3: Well yes, it seems like st On Winston anyway, it
- 1:03Speaker 3: will be restricting the ability to apply for a furtivisa
- 1:07Speaker 3: once you're in New Zealand, and there will be restrictions
- 1:11Speaker 3: on bringing family and also some sort of means testing,
- 1:15Speaker 3: which is a little bit different, but I wouldn't say
- 1:18Speaker 3: completely new.
- 1:19Speaker 1: How common is it then just place restrictions or to
- 1:23Speaker 1: tag one particular country.
- 1:28Speaker 3: The question is a matter of extent. Really, we do
- 1:34Speaker 3: have country specific policy, say for example, with Chinese special
- 1:41Speaker 3: policy visas or tai chefs or Japanese tour guides. These
- 1:48Speaker 3: currently do exist and are not well known, but the
- 1:53Speaker 3: proposed restrictions will be more extreme than previous examples. Certainly
- 2:02Speaker 3: having a restriction on a plank for a further visa
- 2:04Speaker 3: once you own New Zealand that's somewhat new, not completely new,
- 2:10Speaker 3: but will be similar to imposing automatic limited visa. Ultimately,
- 2:17Speaker 3: I think it depends on what the restricts are not
- 2:19Speaker 3: going to be.
- 2:20Speaker 1: And we will find out in due course, I'm sure,
- 2:23Speaker 1: although the government apparently would like us to not know
- 2:25Speaker 1: before Mighty arrived. Sunny Lamb immigration expert Queen Said law
- 2:28Speaker 1: former immigration Offhasy. For more from earlier edition with Ryan Bridge,

- 2:34Speaker 3: It'd be from five am weekdays, or follow the podcast
- 2:38Speaker 3: on iHeartRadio.
