- 0:00Speaker 1: By the way, ye crazy, like Dorothy arrived and murdered
- 0:03Speaker 1: someone immediately in the Wizard of High I've never really
- 0:06Speaker 1: thought about that before.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, neither great.
- 0:11Speaker 3: Ever supposed to.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Like she didn't do it necessarily, like she was just
- 0:15Speaker 1: kind of like witnessed to it. She was in the house, right,
- 0:18Speaker 1: Like is that like is that like the hicular homicide
- 0:22Speaker 1: is homeowner homicide?
- 0:23Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to May the Review be with You
- 0:30Speaker 1: with Nick. I'm Joe and today on Maybe the Movie
- 0:35Speaker 1: with You, we're doing a double header. We were talking
- 0:38Speaker 1: about two different shows that premiered just last week. We
- 0:41Speaker 1: have Agatha All Along on Disney Plus and we have
- 0:44Speaker 1: Matt Reeves the Penguin on Max. So it's a great
- 0:49Speaker 1: weekend for television. I mean, we had those two premiering,
- 0:52Speaker 1: but like so many other shows are also going right now.
- 0:54Speaker 1: It's it's a great time to be a nerd. But uh, yeah, Nick,
- 1:00Speaker 1: just just how are you feeling, you know, we we
- 1:03Speaker 1: just got through both of these shows.
- 1:04Speaker 3: I feeling in.
- 1:05Speaker 2: General, I'm feeling it was a little overwhelmed because there's
- 1:09Speaker 2: a lot a lot happened this week. You know, we
- 1:11Speaker 2: had two episodes of Agatha, and then that was on Wednesday,
- 1:17Speaker 2: and then on Thursday there's a new Penguin pilot which
- 1:20Speaker 2: was over an hour, and then there's still the Rings
- 1:25Speaker 2: of Power episode that came out as well on Thursday.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I still haven't seen it, which I also still have
- 1:30Speaker 2: not seen because there's too much to go going on.
- 1:34Speaker 2: So overwhelmed but excited that. You know, it's better to
- 1:38Speaker 2: be overwhelmed than bored when it comes to geek life,
- 1:41Speaker 2: which we love geek life, so here we are. But yeah,
- 1:44Speaker 2: overall awesome because I really did enjoy both openings to
- 1:51Speaker 2: the respective series here, which we'll get into. But yeah,
- 1:54Speaker 2: how about you.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Yeah, like literally same being an adult, it sucks just
- 2:01Speaker 1: having all these different things going on at the same time.
- 2:05Speaker 1: I have to carve out time to watch TV. That's
- 2:08Speaker 1: an insane thing to say, but I but I do.
- 2:10Speaker 3: I need to.
- 2:11Speaker 1: That's that's how life works out. But uh, yeah, I was.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I was overall walking away from both of these shows
- 2:18Speaker 1: pretty excited, honestly. But both shows Agatha, I kind of
- 2:23Speaker 1: expected two to be. I mean, after we saw the trailers,
- 2:27Speaker 1: I expected it to be something special. Not before before,
- 2:31Speaker 1: I was not excited for that show at all, and
- 2:35Speaker 1: the Penguin, I think I had like no expectations for
- 2:39Speaker 1: really whatsoever, and I went zero to one one hundred
- 2:43Speaker 1: on this show fast.
- 2:45Speaker 3: I am very excited about this show.
- 2:48Speaker 1: That that being said, let's save the Penguin for last,
- 2:52Speaker 1: and let's let's jump into Agatha Along. As you pointed out,
- 2:55Speaker 1: it came out first, So Agatha Along Catherine has her
- 3:00Speaker 1: own show following Oh my God Vision Division there it
- 3:06Speaker 1: is how that blinked for a whole minute edio WandaVision
- 3:11Speaker 1: and it's pretty entertaining. We pick up three years later
- 3:16Speaker 1: after WandaVision overall? How'd you feel going into the episode?
- 3:20Speaker 1: How did you feel walking away from the upisode?
- 3:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I was excited for it, Like I've enjoyed the
- 3:25Speaker 2: Disney plus MCU TV shows a lot, but I was
- 3:28Speaker 2: excited for this one because it seems almost like a
- 3:31Speaker 2: not an unorthodox spinoff, but maybe aside from those like
- 3:36Speaker 2: kind of the I guess a little unorthodox but really
- 3:39Speaker 2: interesting story to tell, right because she's essentially like stuck
- 3:43Speaker 2: in the dark hold like and I don't know if
- 3:49Speaker 2: she's like there, like where is she are you talking
- 3:51Speaker 2: about at the end or in the beginning, in the beginning,
- 3:54Speaker 2: in the beginning, at least what.
- 3:55Speaker 1: What I had picked up from that was, I mean,
- 3:58Speaker 1: using the dark hold Wanda, you know, imprisoned Agatha in
- 4:03Speaker 1: I want to say, like in her own mind.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Really right right right right.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Which it was neat that we we started with a
- 4:11Speaker 1: like a nod to one division. Every episode was crafted
- 4:15Speaker 1: with a different era of television in mind, right right, yeah,
- 4:19Speaker 1: And we we start right away with like a crime drama,
- 4:23Speaker 1: which was really entertaining. Also, I don't know if you've
- 4:27Speaker 1: save seen Mary of Eastown, but that that showed rules
- 4:31Speaker 1: and this was a great like little like wink and
- 4:33Speaker 1: like reference to it.
- 4:35Speaker 3: Agatha of Westview.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Great, love that more Agnes of west View, I think, yeah, great, great,
- 4:43Speaker 1: great way to start, honestly, really really entertaining.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree with the crime show thing. I was like, oh,
- 4:49Speaker 2: we're doing this till the whole time. We are not.
- 4:51Speaker 2: But it was a fun start. And she was great too,
- 4:56Speaker 2: because she she's such a phenomenal actress. Like you know,
- 4:59Speaker 2: there's so many like subliminal messages throughout that whole first
- 5:01Speaker 2: episode of like oh, you know, you're not really this
- 5:05Speaker 2: isn't actually who you are like, you know what, you know,
- 5:07Speaker 2: all these like subliminal messages from all these other characters.
- 5:09Speaker 2: But she's like really doing a great job to like
- 5:12Speaker 2: play someone who is supposed to be there but not
- 5:17Speaker 2: supposed to be not supposed to be there, right, and.
- 5:20Speaker 1: So she's like a she's a rendition of Agatha, but
- 5:24Speaker 1: she's not Agatha yet.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Right in the moment, right, So really interesting. Yeah, I
- 5:31Speaker 2: really enjoyed it spooky, which is cool. I love the
- 5:34Speaker 2: spookiness of it also far and yeah, I'm really excited
- 5:39Speaker 2: to see you know what's next there. What are your
- 5:43Speaker 2: some of your like initial thoughts from the first two episodes.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Yeah, so, like like I said, strong start so fun,
- 5:51Speaker 1: love the mayor of East Town Reverence. I don't know
- 5:56Speaker 1: why we necessarily start with the crime drama, or why
- 6:00Speaker 1: the crime drama even starts to happen. We'll go back
- 6:03Speaker 1: to that because I think there's more to unpacked with
- 6:07Speaker 1: with that choice. But overall, yeah, it's like you said,
- 6:11Speaker 1: it's creepy. Katherine Han is just so fun to watch
- 6:14Speaker 1: on screen. It's easy to see why they gave her
- 6:16Speaker 1: this show, because like she just packs so much enthusiasm
- 6:21Speaker 1: and wit and just meanness. She's just she's just wonderful
- 6:26Speaker 1: to watch. I'm loving all the inversions to the Wizard
- 6:32Speaker 1: of Oz. That's been really neat uh and and so
- 6:37Speaker 1: many of them. Right like, right from the beginning, the
- 6:39Speaker 1: first crime is a woman who's you know, fallen from
- 6:44Speaker 1: the sky uh and presumably got hit by something large
- 6:49Speaker 1: and doesn't have shoes on. Right right away, it's like, okay,
- 6:52Speaker 1: this sounds exactly like the witch in the Wizard of Oz,
- 6:55Speaker 1: who you know, the house falls on her when Dorothy
- 6:58Speaker 1: arrived in Oz, which, by the way, crazy like Dorothy
- 7:01Speaker 1: arrived and murdered someone immediately in the Wizard of High
- 7:05Speaker 1: I never really thought.
- 7:06Speaker 3: About that before.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean neither. That's great.
- 7:13Speaker 1: I suppose like she didn't do it necessarily, like she
- 7:17Speaker 1: was just kind of like witnessed to it.
- 7:19Speaker 3: She was in the house, right Like.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Is that like, is that like vehicular homicide? I don't know,
- 7:24Speaker 1: howner homicide, I don't know.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Speaking of dead witches, speaking of dead witches, I refuse
- 7:33Speaker 2: to believe that. I want to Maximov is dead first
- 7:38Speaker 2: of all.
- 7:39Speaker 3: Ooh oh yeah, this is.
- 7:41Speaker 2: That is not okay? That is that? Okay? They dangled
- 7:44Speaker 2: it at us and they said, no, she's the Scarlet
- 7:46Speaker 2: Witch is dead or whatever they said. It's like, no, no,
- 7:49Speaker 2: there's no way that that's how. There's just no way.
- 7:53Speaker 2: I don't believe it. I don't know.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I think the more I think about it, I think
- 7:57Speaker 1: I think she definitely is, but she's coming back. Like,
- 7:59Speaker 1: there's no way she's not. She's she's too great. But
- 8:05Speaker 1: it so Wizard of Oz starts with the death of
- 8:08Speaker 1: a witch, right, and that's that's pretty much what we get.
- 8:11Speaker 1: That's what we're told right before Dorothy, you know, in
- 8:15Speaker 1: the Wizard of Oz goes on the Yellow Brick Road
- 8:18Speaker 1: right to meet the Wizard, which this is starting the
- 8:22Speaker 1: same exact way.
- 8:22Speaker 3: It's the death of a witch.
- 8:23Speaker 1: And with the death of the Scarlet Witch, that presumably
- 8:28Speaker 1: like makes the spell that Agatha was under weaker and
- 8:31Speaker 1: she's able to like get out of it with help
- 8:34Speaker 1: from Joe. Locke's character just listed mysteriously, mysteriously as teen
- 8:41Speaker 1: I think at one point she she referenced him as
- 8:43Speaker 1: Toto by the way, another Wizard of Oz reference.
- 8:48Speaker 3: They're just they're all over the place.
- 8:50Speaker 1: I love that, but uh yeah, I'm I'm deeply intrigued.
- 8:55Speaker 1: There's there's a hell of a mystery going on, especially
- 8:58Speaker 1: with teen Right. I love Aubrey Plaza's character, the return
- 9:03Speaker 1: of Missus Hart.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Right, Marvel.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Marvel is doing great with some of these like non
- 9:09Speaker 1: traditional like comic book characters that are TV only that
- 9:13Speaker 1: instantly become fan favorites. Yeah, and Madison comes to mind
- 9:17Speaker 1: from she Hulk longers longers.
- 9:20Speaker 2: So great and one why but it's not where you say.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Missus Heart also like an instant love. She's just she's
- 9:30Speaker 1: just happy to be invited to a party, just hanging
- 9:32Speaker 1: out with some some gals.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's cool to see uh some you know
- 9:37Speaker 2: some of course, like Missus Hart, but you know some
- 9:39Speaker 2: of the other Westview characters, if you will, just callbacks
- 9:42Speaker 2: I guess or whatever. They're just being in and you know,
- 9:45Speaker 2: put into the story and coming back on screen. Basically.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, thank you for saying that there was a
- 9:51Speaker 1: cool callback.
- 9:53Speaker 3: I wonder if you caught it.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Uh.
- 9:56Speaker 1: When the witches, like the dark witches like show up for.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Agatha, those things are creepy as hell, man, they were creepy.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Salem seven, the Salem seven, Salem seven, that's right, Yeah.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Remembering that the Salem seven is super creepy when the
- 10:10Speaker 1: team I'm just gonna call him Toto, when Toto uh
- 10:14Speaker 1: steps outside to see like the seven show up, but
- 10:19Speaker 1: it's just the one witch, right and then like they
- 10:21Speaker 1: separate into seven.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Yeah, you know what I'm talking about.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Yeah, that's Do you recognize that shot?
- 10:26Speaker 2: Yeah, that's from I don't remember where.
- 10:31Speaker 3: So I recognize that shot.
- 10:33Speaker 1: It might be a reference to something else, but I
- 10:35Speaker 1: recognized that shot from Wanda Vision. It's the same shot
- 10:41Speaker 1: when Wanda steps outside in either the first episode or
- 10:45Speaker 1: the second episode and she sees like a diver come
- 10:47Speaker 1: up from the road. Do you remember, Yeah, It's like
- 10:51Speaker 1: it's the same exact shot where like he's just the
- 10:54Speaker 1: diver comes up and she's like so confused to like
- 10:56Speaker 1: see like something so like foreign and strange there. And
- 11:00Speaker 1: they reference that completely again with this witch. That was
- 11:04Speaker 1: a little callback to that.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 11:07Speaker 1: The team obviously is very mysterious, and we're not supposed
- 11:10Speaker 1: to know really what's going on with him there yet.
- 11:14Speaker 3: I'm not really too sure who he might be.
- 11:18Speaker 1: I haven't I don't know who he is, but I
- 11:21Speaker 1: think I have a guess of who he's related to.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Two things I've seen online are he might actually be
- 11:26Speaker 2: Agatha's son, because they kind of give us a glimpse
- 11:29Speaker 2: at she had a son at some point. Nicholas Sparks,
- 11:33Speaker 2: I think is his name. No, that's not right, Nicholas.
- 11:35Speaker 2: That's the fucking author of a bunch of notebooks. Amazing,
- 11:41Speaker 2: it was Nicholas, right, Nicholas Scratch Scratch, Thank you Jesus.
- 11:46Speaker 2: I mean I wasn't actually that far off, tragically, I said,
- 11:49Speaker 2: an actual human beings name. The some speculation that it's
- 11:55Speaker 2: that's her son or Mephisto.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Yeah, Mephisto, so I yeah, that's the popular idea that
- 12:05Speaker 1: he's probably Mephisto. I don't think he's Mephisto. I think
- 12:08Speaker 1: he's probably related to Mephisto in some way. Mm. And
- 12:13Speaker 1: the number one reason why I think this is the
- 12:17Speaker 1: name that we saw Nicholas Scratch. So fun, fun, old
- 12:22Speaker 1: detail here a classic name for the devil, like way
- 12:28Speaker 1: back in the day, old scratch. Really interesting that they
- 12:33Speaker 1: named that child Nicholas Scratch right. So I'm wondering if,
- 12:38Speaker 1: like if he is Mephisto, or like he's just related
- 12:42Speaker 1: to Mephisto, Like there's something he's related. It's Mephisto. It's
- 12:45Speaker 1: like somehow it's Mephisto. By the way, the only reason
- 12:48Speaker 1: why I know that is I don't know if you've
- 12:49Speaker 1: ever seen Over the Garden Wall before, but the villain
- 12:52Speaker 1: of that show, the Beast, his name was supposed to
- 12:55Speaker 1: be Old Scratch, and that's why I found out the.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Devil at Flash. Yeah, it's great.
- 13:06Speaker 3: I want more Aubrey Plaza. Yeah, yeah, I'm not. I'm
- 13:09Speaker 3: not too sure where we're going this series yet.
- 13:12Speaker 2: I was surprised she wasn't one of the She's not
- 13:14Speaker 2: one of the ones at the end.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Who goes with the with the coven, the coven, thank you. Yeah, so, which,
- 13:23Speaker 1: by the way, I we we haven't talked about how
- 13:26Speaker 1: the coven was basically Ocean's eleven.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Uh. Where there I'm assembling a coven. I love that.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it's great. That was a really cool That was
- 13:37Speaker 2: a really cool like montage of scenes, if you will.
- 13:40Speaker 2: And then the ballot at the end there was fantastic.
- 13:44Speaker 2: That was my favorite scene of the whole first two
- 13:46Speaker 2: episodes was them all singing the ballot together and while
- 13:49Speaker 2: the while the Salem seven are like trying to get
- 13:51Speaker 2: to the house, and then of course out of nowhere
- 13:53Speaker 2: to it just the portal to the the doorway to
- 13:57Speaker 2: the to the to the road opens up. So cool,
- 14:01Speaker 2: so cool.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Yeah, No, that really was haunting melody, very very very cool.
- 14:06Speaker 2: And the set there, the set there when they walk
- 14:08Speaker 2: down to the road was fantastic too, like classic spooky
- 14:14Speaker 2: Disney like set. That was really cool. I enjoyed that.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Yeah, actually that's a great call. It does kind of
- 14:19Speaker 1: harken back to some like old Disney movies. Yeah, and
- 14:24Speaker 1: again like another like inversion of like the Wizard of Oz,
- 14:27Speaker 1: right is like shining in bright Town and instead it's
- 14:32Speaker 1: this dark, haunted forest right, really really fun. Yeah, think
- 14:39Speaker 1: thanks for bringing up the song there. I forgot to
- 14:42Speaker 1: bring this up. I rewatched the first episode and the
- 14:46Speaker 1: song actually comes up a few times. It's it's the
- 14:49Speaker 1: intro song to the first episode. And it's also a
- 14:53Speaker 1: song that that Agnes detective Agnes is singing while she's
- 14:58Speaker 1: in the car, so she's she's thinking about it all
- 15:02Speaker 1: the time, like even when she's like not aware that
- 15:04Speaker 1: she's a witch. Right, it's just the road is in
- 15:07Speaker 1: her head. It's interesting constantly at her all signs point
- 15:12Speaker 1: toward the road. Nice, what do you think about the
- 15:16Speaker 1: the omens that she's getting. She sees a crow or
- 15:20Speaker 1: maybe let's call it a raven, a raven, a rat,
- 15:23Speaker 1: and a wolf.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Yeah, the rat. I'm specifically remembering the rat the most.
- 15:29Speaker 2: I think that was maybe the most, at least to me.
- 15:32Speaker 1: You don't remember the wolf just standing there in the
- 15:35Speaker 1: middle of suburbia.
- 15:37Speaker 2: I don't know. There's been too much TV. I can't
- 15:40Speaker 2: remember everything. The rat. The rat was the most, I
- 15:49Speaker 2: guess obvious to me for whatever reason, I have no
- 15:53Speaker 2: idea though, Like I don't know where the omens are
- 15:55Speaker 2: supposed to lead, Like I don't. I'm not sure. I
- 16:00Speaker 2: have no theories on like why, other than like maybe
- 16:06Speaker 2: there were those were omens for the Salem Seven, like
- 16:09Speaker 2: are coming for her prior to them actually like reaching her.
- 16:14Speaker 2: You know, I don't know, do you have any theories?
- 16:21Speaker 1: I honestly, I'm kind of stumped on this one. It
- 16:25Speaker 1: could be it could be just, you know, a sign
- 16:27Speaker 1: that the Seven are coming. But she knows that the
- 16:29Speaker 1: seven are coming, like at a specific time, right because
- 16:33Speaker 1: Rio Aubrey Plaus's character, she tells her they're coming, right,
- 16:38Speaker 1: and we know exactly when they're coming, So I don't
- 16:40Speaker 1: know if if the signs are for that or if
- 16:45Speaker 1: all right, here's here's the only theory I've got. Maybe
- 16:48Speaker 1: they are Rio, like it is Rvey Plaus's character like
- 16:52Speaker 1: and for whatever reason, she hates her so much, like
- 16:56Speaker 1: these signs keep like pointing her into the direction of Rio,
- 17:00Speaker 1: like the road. Maybe maybe the road is leading her
- 17:02Speaker 1: to Rio, right, maybe the wise wizard at the end
- 17:05Speaker 1: is you know, the inversion of like Rio's character, right,
- 17:09Speaker 1: it's all leading to her. I don't know, considering Rio's
- 17:14Speaker 1: not in the episode when those signs are popping up,
- 17:18Speaker 1: I honestly that maybe they are associated with her right
- 17:22Speaker 1: to some degree, or they are her.
- 17:25Speaker 3: I don't know. That's my best guess.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Interesting, I like that. It's a nice theory.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Yeah, but uh yeah, that's uh. That's kind of where
- 17:34Speaker 1: we're at with this. First two episodes were really fun.
- 17:38Speaker 1: I'm really looking forward to to watching more for Ragatha along.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Same, absolutely looking forward to it. And we'll see where
- 17:47Speaker 2: the road.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Leads, yes we will. But our road for right now,
- 17:53Speaker 1: the Penguin, that's what we're on. That's the next stop.
- 17:56Speaker 1: The Wow, Wow, what a pilot.
- 18:00Speaker 2: What a way to open to picking up right where
- 18:02Speaker 2: we left off from The Batman, just like straight up
- 18:05Speaker 2: right from where we left off, like just it magnificently done,
- 18:12Speaker 2: magnificently done. Like enthralled. I could I could not do.
- 18:18Speaker 2: You know, like when you sometimes you put on TV show,
- 18:20Speaker 2: even if it's a new one, like you might occasionally
- 18:22Speaker 2: like look at your phone or like you know, I'm
- 18:24Speaker 2: gonna posit real quick, get up, get a drink or
- 18:26Speaker 2: like whatever. You know, you can get distracted pretty quickly.
- 18:31Speaker 2: This is one of those. This was like locked in hour.
- 18:35Speaker 2: I cannot believe when I'm watching Colin Farrell just unreal performance,
- 18:42Speaker 2: you know, like just unreal performance. And then Christine Melodi
- 18:46Speaker 2: Meliodi also just like phenomenal.
- 18:49Speaker 1: I yeah, I I truly had no expectations for this.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I'm not really sure why. I I enjoyed the Batman
- 18:57Speaker 1: movie a lot. Batman movie was great. I have very
- 19:01Speaker 1: little to complain about it.
- 19:04Speaker 3: But I don't know.
- 19:05Speaker 1: I guess I the character the penguin himself has never
- 19:08Speaker 1: really been a character that's ever attracted me. I've never
- 19:12Speaker 1: really been interested as far as Batman villains go. He's
- 19:14Speaker 1: always been kind of like lower for my interest. So
- 19:17Speaker 1: like when they announced that they were doing this. It
- 19:19Speaker 1: was like, why, I mean money, I guess I.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Will say I will say that the Batman TV series
- 19:28Speaker 2: that was actually on like I think like NBC or something.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Or no, you're talking about Gotham.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Gotham, Yeah, thank you, Gotham. Is that on Fox?
- 19:35Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 19:35Speaker 2: Well, okay, Gotham on Fox. I never watched the whole thing,
- 19:38Speaker 2: but I remember watching the first couple of seasons and like,
- 19:41Speaker 2: I enjoyed it, and the character the Penguin's in that series,
- 19:46Speaker 2: he's not you know, he's not known as the Penguin.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Of course, He's known in that series as Oswald cobble Pot,
- 19:51Speaker 2: which is his actual name, and they refer to him
- 19:54Speaker 2: like as oz or Cobbobot or whatever a couple of
- 19:57Speaker 2: times in this pilot. But the reason I was interested
- 20:02Speaker 2: in this show was because that show has a lot
- 20:06Speaker 2: of character development for Oswald Cobbopot and I really liked
- 20:12Speaker 2: that character in that in that Gotham show, and so
- 20:15Speaker 2: in the actor I forget the name, but who played
- 20:17Speaker 2: him like did a really good job in my opinion,
- 20:19Speaker 2: And so from that show I got more interested when
- 20:23Speaker 2: I realized that they were going to do this version
- 20:25Speaker 2: of the Penguin from the Batman and it was gonna
- 20:27Speaker 2: be Colin Farrell was like, this might be really good
- 20:30Speaker 2: because he has a really interesting, like the characters, really
- 20:34Speaker 2: interesting for all these dynamics that kind of go into
- 20:39Speaker 2: his mind. So, and we've never really got that in
- 20:42Speaker 2: like a movie, right, like any of the Batman films,
- 20:44Speaker 2: Like penguin has been a villain, but we've never had
- 20:49Speaker 2: necessarily time to explore why. So it's this is really
- 20:54Speaker 2: interesting that we're getting like a mini series about specifically
- 20:58Speaker 2: the penguin PNG one.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Actually, I'm sure a blink here. With the exception of
- 21:02Speaker 1: the Batman, has has the penguin ever been portrayed, Yeah,
- 21:08Speaker 1: by an actor on screen, with the exception of you know,
- 21:12Speaker 1: the Batman and Gotham.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Batman And was it Batman not Batman and.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Robin Oh, you're right, Danny DeVito was the penguin. Yeah,
- 21:22Speaker 3: I'm not a human saying how could I how could
- 21:26Speaker 3: I get legendary? You know?
- 21:29Speaker 2: Well, because you know, even though that was legendary, there
- 21:32Speaker 2: there's an argument to be made that it was forgetful.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Legendary and infamous. Yeah it was. It was a time,
- 21:42Speaker 3: but yeah, that was the time to be Batman.
- 21:44Speaker 2: So there's that, right, But that's maybe also the reason
- 21:46Speaker 2: you learn't as excited.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Maybe probably probably it's a good call. Yeah, so but
- 21:52Speaker 1: chill on it.
- 21:53Speaker 2: But yeah, so yeah, this was like it was, It's
- 21:57Speaker 2: awesome so far, it's really freaking cool. So many I
- 22:00Speaker 2: have so many notes too, like just things I liked.
- 22:02Speaker 2: But anyway, you go, what's what's next in your list
- 22:06Speaker 2: of what to discuss?
- 22:08Speaker 1: I I just I've really I want to just applaud
- 22:11Speaker 1: everyone who worked on the show, because I think they
- 22:13Speaker 1: had to do two things that were really hard. The
- 22:17Speaker 1: first thing that I have to accomplish is they have
- 22:19Speaker 1: to somehow recapture the the Gotham that we saw in
- 22:26Speaker 1: Matt Reeves's The Batman, right, like the tone and the
- 22:30Speaker 1: grittiness of like that world that they created, and that
- 22:34Speaker 1: I think that's the best Gotham has.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Ever looked, is in that movie.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I agree, which you know, is it kind of an oxymoron.
- 22:40Speaker 3: It's the best it's ever looked because.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Of how horrible it looks, right, And I think they,
- 22:45Speaker 1: like you said, they got us there pretty instantly, you know,
- 22:48Speaker 1: right off the heels of the disaster and the way
- 22:52Speaker 1: that Gotham is is shot. It looks horrible, and it looks,
- 22:57Speaker 1: you know, like where crime is born and raised.
- 23:01Speaker 3: Right, it takes you there very fast.
- 23:04Speaker 1: And the second thing they have to accomplish, at least
- 23:06Speaker 1: for a story like this, is to make the Penguin
- 23:09Speaker 1: a sympathetic character. You gotta got a root for him, right,
- 23:12Speaker 1: And like, yeah, I've never cared for this character for
- 23:15Speaker 1: as long as we've you know, known Batman. Everyone knows
- 23:19Speaker 1: who the penguin is. Probably he's just one of those
- 23:22Speaker 1: like one of those rogues that sticks out in the
- 23:25Speaker 1: Batman lore, right, But I doubt there are very many
- 23:29Speaker 1: Penguin fans out there, And if you are, please tell us,
- 23:32Speaker 1: because I'd love to know why before this series, if
- 23:34Speaker 1: you were a Penguin fan. I'm not Hayden, I just
- 23:38Speaker 1: I really would love to know why you were, Like
- 23:39Speaker 1: what was it about the character you loft? And they
- 23:42Speaker 1: got there right? They make him sympathetic, they make him intriguing,
- 23:47Speaker 1: and like you said, you're just kind of riveted by
- 23:49Speaker 1: like where this guy's story is going, like right from
- 23:51Speaker 1: the get gun. Yeah, just I'm so hyped on this
- 23:55Speaker 1: show right now. But you have notes what a what's
- 24:00Speaker 1: what's on the docket there, sir.
- 24:02Speaker 2: So like things I just so like initial thoughts right
- 24:07Speaker 2: from the beginning, right, like, it was really really cool
- 24:09Speaker 2: where it picks up from the Falcone Kid's an idiot,
- 24:14Speaker 2: you know, al I think is Roberto Alberto, Like pretty
- 24:22Speaker 2: quickly you're you know, you're just like okay, you're all
- 24:24Speaker 2: right this This kid's super dumb. And the scene at
- 24:29Speaker 2: the early part where Penguin and him are having drinks, right,
- 24:33Speaker 2: and the cool thing about the scene is right before
- 24:35Speaker 2: they're having drinks, Penguin is clearly like he's he's at
- 24:41Speaker 2: Falcon's like like who he's in his club, but he's
- 24:45Speaker 2: like looking specifically through some of Falcone's stuff, and the
- 24:52Speaker 2: kid walks in, like al walks in and confronts Penguin,
- 24:56Speaker 2: and the Penguin's like really quick on his feet, and
- 24:59Speaker 2: it was a cool scene to to kind of get
- 25:01Speaker 2: into the mindset of like, Okay, the penguin is is smart,
- 25:04Speaker 2: and he's really quick with his words when he's been caught, right.
- 25:08Speaker 2: He's very sly that way, and we see that later
- 25:12Speaker 2: too in the scene when he's having lunch with with Sophia,
- 25:17Speaker 2: so really quick on his feet and then he so
- 25:19Speaker 2: he gets himself into this situation where now he's having
- 25:22Speaker 2: drinks with Al and they're shooting the ship and having
- 25:24Speaker 2: a good time, and then Al starts laughing at him.
- 25:27Speaker 2: You just you just there's just something inside you. You're
- 25:31Speaker 2: just waiting, you know, You're just like, what this kid
- 25:34Speaker 2: is so dumb, Like there's no way he he lives
- 25:36Speaker 2: through through all of this. And of course, in that moment,
- 25:39Speaker 2: Penguin just like takes over and shoots him, you know,
- 25:44Speaker 2: cold blood. And but the cool part there is he
- 25:48Speaker 2: loses his cool though, right and immediately after he shoots him,
- 25:53Speaker 2: he's got he's excited that he did it. And then
- 25:56Speaker 2: he's just like, oh, I have such a mess. I
- 25:58Speaker 2: have to clean up. Now. Why did I.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Actually I wanted to ask you about that, Like, like
- 26:04Speaker 1: he said, he he shoots him and then he laughs, right, yeah,
- 26:09Speaker 1: why do you think he laughs?
- 26:11Speaker 2: I think he laughs because he got the last laugh,
- 26:16Speaker 2: you know, Al is giving him, is laughing at him
- 26:19Speaker 2: for wanting to be you know, I forget the words
- 26:23Speaker 2: that Al was using, but essentially revered, you know, yeah,
- 26:27Speaker 2: and and I was just like making fun of him
- 26:30Speaker 2: and so and Penguin hated it, and so he took
- 26:35Speaker 2: matters into his own hands, got the last laugh, and
- 26:38Speaker 2: then immediately remembers that now he has to clean up
- 26:41Speaker 2: this big mess because he's not it's not good for
- 26:43Speaker 2: him for people to know that who he just killed.
- 26:46Speaker 2: That scene is what sets up the whole journey. We
- 26:49Speaker 2: go on over the next you know, forty fifty minutes there,
- 26:52Speaker 2: and yeah, Colin Feiller just crushes crushes this acting job.
- 27:00Speaker 2: You know, it's really good.
- 27:02Speaker 1: I would say it's it's pretty he does for the record,
- 27:05Speaker 1: and I don't want to take anything away from Colin Ferrell.
- 27:07Speaker 1: But like across the board, like everyone is just like
- 27:10Speaker 1: bringing their a game.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Yeah, everyone's really excellent, including the kid uh Ramsey Fellies
- 27:15Speaker 2: who plays Victor.
- 27:17Speaker 1: So yeah, but by the way, I okay, so on
- 27:20Speaker 1: on Victor's story. So I was watching I was watching
- 27:25Speaker 1: The Penguin with someone and they fell asleep, not because
- 27:27Speaker 1: they you know, weren't into it. It's just been a
- 27:29Speaker 1: late night and they just fell asleep, right, And like
- 27:32Speaker 1: when they came back they were super into it, but
- 27:34Speaker 1: like you know, they wanted to like a catch up
- 27:35Speaker 1: on like the Victor character. I explained, it was like,
- 27:38Speaker 1: let me tell you the day that Victor's been having.
- 27:41Speaker 1: Victor thought he was stealing rims from a car. Then
- 27:45Speaker 1: a bald man threatened to shoot him, spared his life,
- 27:49Speaker 1: and then he had to move a dead body. Then
- 27:51Speaker 1: the old man threatened to shoot him again, and then
- 27:55Speaker 1: he basically had to dedicate his life to him. Then
- 27:58Speaker 1: he went to the richest side and basically acted as
- 28:02Speaker 1: chauffeur all around Gotham. Went to this crazy man's mother's house,
- 28:07Speaker 1: saw him break down in front of his mom, and
- 28:09Speaker 1: then witnessed his mom being a worst like sociopath than.
- 28:12Speaker 3: Him, and then he got a job. What a day.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Yeah, Victor's day is the next level insane. Also, it
- 28:24Speaker 2: is unbelievable. And a couple of notes I wrote down
- 28:27Speaker 2: were mistakes that Penguin made in this episode that will
- 28:29Speaker 2: probably come back to bite him in the ass at
- 28:31Speaker 2: some point. And one of those mistakes is keeping Victor alive,
- 28:34Speaker 2: even though so far it was the right choice based
- 28:37Speaker 2: on how the episode ends, but keeping him alive might
- 28:40Speaker 2: end up being a bad choice. And two keeping the
- 28:44Speaker 2: ring from Salvator, the ring that he takes off. He
- 28:50Speaker 2: takes off the ring from al Falcone's finger and then
- 28:56Speaker 2: he gives it to Salvator Moroni in prison as like
- 29:02Speaker 2: a token or whatever that also might come back to
- 29:06Speaker 2: bite him in the ass, although maybe not as much
- 29:09Speaker 2: because it's not on his person anymore. But yeah, I interesting,
- 29:14Speaker 2: I don't think.
- 29:15Speaker 1: I think you're right about Victor. I think there's something
- 29:18Speaker 1: about that relationship that is so doomed. Yeah, you know,
- 29:23Speaker 1: and yeah I'm not I'm not sure I know exactly
- 29:25Speaker 1: where that's going yet. But as far as the ring goes,
- 29:30Speaker 1: I mean, it was originally his ring, right, the Salvator's.
- 29:33Speaker 1: So Salad just has his ring back, right and fellcne.
- 29:37Speaker 1: You know, we were told that he wore it as
- 29:39Speaker 1: like a sign of mocking the the Maroney family, and
- 29:45Speaker 1: you know, geniusly he gives sal the ring and he
- 29:50Speaker 1: does it like in what appears to be just like
- 29:53Speaker 1: oh yeah, like I'm just you know, it's your ring,
- 29:55Speaker 1: like you know this and he was mocking you for it, right,
- 29:58Speaker 1: But really he's done it.
- 29:59Speaker 3: So he created an alibi.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Right, right, it ends up story Yeah.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Yeah, it ends up beating like a genius move by
- 30:07Speaker 1: removing the finger of al and then the ring pops
- 30:10Speaker 1: up later with the Maroni's like it just seems.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Like, yeah it was them, right, Yeah, great, great writing,
- 30:18Speaker 3: great move, that was great.
- 30:20Speaker 1: My jaw dropped honestly when Victor shows up with the car, Yeah, I.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Wasn't sure what. Yeah, we we didn't know what the
- 30:27Speaker 2: task was that he gave Victor. And then as he's
- 30:29Speaker 2: being essentially he's about to be tortured by Sophia and
- 30:34Speaker 2: the thugs, his alibi essentially crashes into their house. Yeah,
- 30:40Speaker 2: it was like, yeah, amazing timing. But I will say
- 30:44Speaker 2: the other thing that stands out is like, really quick,
- 30:47Speaker 2: what a shameful thing to do with Tuamasarati? Can we
- 30:50Speaker 2: just acknowledge the purple and gold awful? Not that I'm
- 30:54Speaker 2: complaining only the penguin, I guess.
- 30:57Speaker 1: And that ends up being important though, the fact that
- 31:00Speaker 1: it's not so subtle bar like every detail in this show.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Matters, exactly, every detail matters, which is like fascinating. One
- 31:07Speaker 2: thing I wanted to ask you is do you know
- 31:08Speaker 2: what the story is between between the penguin and Sofia?
- 31:12Speaker 2: Though I don't, I didn't Yo, Okay, No.
- 31:15Speaker 1: This is a this is a character I am not familiar.
- 31:17Speaker 1: I'm actually not very familiar with a lot of like
- 31:19Speaker 1: the Falcons, like Carmine Falcone like obviously like I feel
- 31:22Speaker 1: like anyone who's loosely familiar with like Batman, Mobster stories
- 31:26Speaker 1: knows him right for sure. But yeah, the rest of
- 31:28Speaker 1: the Falcon family I really don't know a whole lot about,
- 31:32Speaker 1: So I'm not sure what's going on there.
- 31:34Speaker 2: Got it okay? Because that's an interesting development. Of course,
- 31:38Speaker 2: she was an Arkaman. Now she's out of Arkham, so
- 31:40Speaker 2: she's just obviously insane as well, So it's very interesting development.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Appears to be like a like a day least in comics,
- 31:48Speaker 1: like some sort of Batman villain with like the Monica,
- 31:50Speaker 1: a cool Moniker, the Hangman, super creepy. Everything about her
- 31:56Speaker 1: was so creepy. Yeah, I loved her. I loved her character.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Yeah, fantastic. Actually, the way.
- 32:02Speaker 1: That they the torture, uh, the metal Uh what what
- 32:08Speaker 1: do you even call that? It's not chain, it's not
- 32:11Speaker 1: rope like a wire. Yeah, I'm supposed to do with words.
- 32:17Speaker 1: That's my job, literally, good with words.
- 32:21Speaker 3: Wire.
- 32:22Speaker 2: It's okay, it's it's it's been it's been a long weekend.
- 32:27Speaker 2: The other thing that was cool was to reveal when
- 32:29Speaker 2: they go out to lunch, right and the penguin realizes, oh,
- 32:34Speaker 2: I fucked up because Al has been working with his
- 32:37Speaker 2: sister on this deal. But you get another glimpse at
- 32:42Speaker 2: how quick he is on his feet when he's been
- 32:44Speaker 2: caught at least at least in the mental game, right,
- 32:48Speaker 2: and he really quickly gets himself out of it, at
- 32:51Speaker 2: least out of it enough to buy him some more time,
- 32:55Speaker 2: and that time helps him come up with a plan
- 32:58Speaker 2: that Victor ends up then crashing the car and with
- 33:01Speaker 2: Al's body to get him essentially off the hook at
- 33:05Speaker 2: least for now. So really, really just such great detail
- 33:10Speaker 2: on you know, the Penguin's not just a schmuck or
- 33:16Speaker 2: some kind of like lackey, right, he is he can
- 33:19Speaker 2: be the brains of an operation based on how quick
- 33:22Speaker 2: he is on his feet with thinking there, So that
- 33:26Speaker 2: was really cool to see that. And yeah, now it's
- 33:30Speaker 2: going to be like we don't know what the drug
- 33:33Speaker 2: is either, right, the big plan to revolutionize the drug
- 33:37Speaker 2: business in Gotham. But that's kind of a big plot point.
- 33:42Speaker 2: I think moving forward is finding out what that's all about.
- 33:46Speaker 1: I wanted to make note of one other thing regarding
- 33:51Speaker 1: Victor's character that I thought was a really neat reference
- 33:55Speaker 1: to Batman comics. So Penguin is pretty much picked up
- 34:00Speaker 1: up what I think is fair to say a protege, right,
- 34:04Speaker 1: Like it's not just like a hired hand that that
- 34:07Speaker 1: he has, Like he's he's told Victor, he's like, I think,
- 34:10Speaker 1: like I can make something out of you, right, you
- 34:12Speaker 1: need me, and you know, towards towards the end of this,
- 34:16Speaker 1: we very much see that Victor can live up to
- 34:19Speaker 1: what he has promised.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:21Speaker 1: The way we're introduced to Victor is he's in an alley, right,
- 34:24Speaker 1: and he's with a bunch of other kids who are
- 34:26Speaker 1: stealing the rims off of Penguin's car. That is exactly
- 34:32Speaker 1: how Batman gets his second Robin. Is Jason Todd is
- 34:40Speaker 1: stealing He's attempting to steal the rims off of the Batmobile,
- 34:46Speaker 1: and he busts him, gets him, finds his, finds him,
- 34:50Speaker 1: finds out his story, adopts another orphan, and turns him
- 34:53Speaker 1: into Robin. It's the same story. So it's it's interesting
- 34:57Speaker 1: that we're getting like a dark, corrupted verse of it, right.
- 35:02Speaker 3: The underworld.
- 35:03Speaker 2: That's a great detail. I love that.
- 35:05Speaker 1: Speaking of Batman, do you think we're gonna see him.
- 35:07Speaker 2: I don't think so, And if we do, it's like
- 35:08Speaker 2: a silhouette situation, it's not like a full on scene
- 35:11Speaker 2: or anything.
- 35:12Speaker 3: But I don't.
- 35:13Speaker 2: I don't. I hope we don't, because you know, it's
- 35:16Speaker 2: a mini series, and I think it's cool to tell
- 35:19Speaker 2: this kind of story without having Batman involved. Now, there
- 35:24Speaker 2: might be a point in the story where it feels
- 35:27Speaker 2: like whatever's going on is too important for Batman not
- 35:30Speaker 2: to be involved because it is Gotham. So that's going
- 35:33Speaker 2: to be the interesting part I think moving ahead, right,
- 35:36Speaker 2: is is this going to be It feels like it's
- 35:40Speaker 2: going to be more of like a mob turf war show, right,
- 35:44Speaker 2: in which case Batman maybe isn't necessarily as involved if
- 35:47Speaker 2: it's not like a huge issue or like a huge
- 35:53Speaker 2: problem that has implications for like the the innocent people
- 35:57Speaker 2: of Gotham necessarily like immediately, of course, you know, whoever
- 36:00Speaker 2: rules the Gotham underworld is a problem for the civilians
- 36:05Speaker 2: in this people. But there's gonna be a you know
- 36:09Speaker 2: what I mean, But it's not like a bomb going
- 36:12Speaker 2: off or something, right, which is you know, essentially the
- 36:17Speaker 2: problem from the first from the Batman. So that'll be
- 36:20Speaker 2: interesting to see what kind of stakes we actually have
- 36:24Speaker 2: and what the main plot point is going to be
- 36:29Speaker 2: for the miniseries, because it can't be too like over
- 36:33Speaker 2: the top or else then we're gonna be like, well,
- 36:35Speaker 2: why didn't Batman show up? So it's an interesting question.
- 36:40Speaker 2: I don't know, but yeah, I kind of hope that
- 36:42Speaker 2: it doesn't because I'd like to see the story told
- 36:46Speaker 2: without having to rely on the Cape Crusader showing up.
- 36:50Speaker 1: So I'm right there with you. I don't think it
- 36:54Speaker 1: needs Batman right now. Yeah, I am so heavily involved
- 36:59Speaker 1: with what's going on with Oz, I don't I don't
- 37:03Speaker 1: need him. I think I don't think we can get
- 37:05Speaker 1: away from not having him. I think he shows up eventually,
- 37:11Speaker 1: but like in it, like you said, in a very
- 37:13Speaker 1: loose way, a small way, like maybe like in the finale,
- 37:16Speaker 1: like you know, he plays some sort of like role
- 37:20Speaker 1: and and maybe, you know, maybe he'll be used as
- 37:23Speaker 1: a tool, right, you know, at some point, maybe Penguin
- 37:26Speaker 1: can play Batman into like doing his dirty working, you know,
- 37:29Speaker 1: getting rid of his rifles.
- 37:31Speaker 3: Right.
- 37:32Speaker 1: I think I think it will happen, but I hope,
- 37:36Speaker 1: like you said, it is a way that does not
- 37:39Speaker 1: shift the story toward Batman and just like minimizes that
- 37:43Speaker 1: the Cape Crusader as much as possible, for sure.
- 37:47Speaker 3: But yeah, I'm a I'm big hyped man.
- 37:53Speaker 1: I got a couple of scenes that stand out in
- 37:55Speaker 1: my head the one that I think. I mean, so
- 37:59Speaker 1: many scenes just did not go the way I thought
- 38:01Speaker 1: that they were going to go. But it's pretty much
- 38:04Speaker 1: this whole episode is just Joe trying to catch up
- 38:07Speaker 1: with the plot. Like, holy God, Holy God, Holy God.
- 38:11Speaker 1: The scene with his mom, Oh my god, yeah, missus Calipas,
- 38:15Speaker 1: Like that scene, Wow, that did not go anywhere where
- 38:20Speaker 1: I thought it was gonna go.
- 38:22Speaker 2: She's crazy and.
- 38:23Speaker 1: She's insane and such a supportive crime mobster mother.
- 38:28Speaker 2: Yeah, when he told her what he did, was actually
- 38:34Speaker 2: wrote it down, she was like, oh my god, he
- 38:35Speaker 2: told us. He just straight up tells his mom. He's
- 38:38Speaker 2: not keeping the circle very small, you know. I mean,
- 38:42Speaker 2: it's too too many people that know what he's done. Now.
- 38:46Speaker 1: I do love that, Like she's just not gonna let
- 38:49Speaker 1: it go, right, Like she pries it out of him,
- 38:51Speaker 1: and like he's trying to protect her, right, which is
- 38:54Speaker 1: why he doesn't want to tell her. But he's got
- 38:57Speaker 1: enough trust in his mom to tell her because like
- 39:00Speaker 1: this isn't just in insane character, Like this is one
- 39:03Speaker 1: of his pillars of strength, right, and it's it's basically
- 39:07Speaker 1: what gets him to be the penguin at this moment. No,
- 39:11Speaker 1: that was that was really cool in a disturbing way.
- 39:15Speaker 1: And I love that scene and I love that Victor
- 39:18Speaker 1: is just standing there and like witnessing this.
- 39:20Speaker 3: He's like, what in the hell is.
- 39:22Speaker 2: This this guy?
- 39:25Speaker 3: What a day?
- 39:26Speaker 2: What a day?
- 39:30Speaker 3: I love.
- 39:30Speaker 1: I love the end, by the way, where they're they're
- 39:33Speaker 1: drinking slurpees, right, and and they have like a short
- 39:38Speaker 1: conversation about like hey, why didn't you like decapitate him,
- 39:42Speaker 1: Like that's what you were supposed to do, And like
- 39:44Speaker 1: Victor gets into like all like the impracticalness of trying
- 39:48Speaker 1: to do something like that yourself.
- 39:52Speaker 2: I didn't know if I should start in the front.
- 39:53Speaker 2: But then if you start in the front, you get
- 39:54Speaker 2: to the back, and then if you get to the
- 39:56Speaker 2: you're gonna run into the trichy.
- 39:58Speaker 3: Yeah, like what do you do?
- 39:59Speaker 1: Like then there's a fine like ah, he's just like
- 40:03Speaker 1: a great like substitute for like the everyman's Yeah, yeah,
- 40:07Speaker 1: that sounds like a problem.
- 40:08Speaker 3: I would have if I had to do something that horrible.
- 40:10Speaker 2: Was just like, all right, all right, all right enough
- 40:12Speaker 2: enough stop gross?
- 40:15Speaker 1: Well, Nick, let me let me ask you. Okay, Nick,
- 40:19Speaker 1: let me ask you. So we we've gotten through Agatha
- 40:23Speaker 1: all all along, gotten through the Penguin. This was a
- 40:26Speaker 1: a Marvel in DC weekend. I think this is the
- 40:29Speaker 1: first time, at least this era of superhero storytelling, that
- 40:33Speaker 1: we've had two competing Marvel and DC shows premiering alongside
- 40:39Speaker 1: each other. So it's kind of hard not to ask
- 40:41Speaker 1: the question of, like the verses right for pilot episodes,
- 40:46Speaker 1: what do you think walks away here?
- 40:47Speaker 3: DC or Marvel?
- 40:49Speaker 2: Honestly DC?
- 40:50Speaker 3: For me?
- 40:50Speaker 2: Whins this one? Which that's Nick, I need you.
- 40:53Speaker 1: To remind the people about what a big deal that
- 40:55Speaker 1: is for you.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Yeah, just say that the DC has been a smoking
- 41:00Speaker 2: ball of fire and dumpster fire, to be exact, for
- 41:04Speaker 2: the better part of ten years. Basically everything they've come
- 41:07Speaker 2: out with is sucked.
- 41:11Speaker 3: Nick's just coming out swinging in the.
- 41:14Speaker 2: Comments, maybe like wonder Woman. That was excellent. The second
- 41:17Speaker 2: one was so bad though, that it almost takes away
- 41:19Speaker 2: from how good the first one was. So anyway, the
- 41:24Speaker 2: fact that I'm picking something DC over the MC right
- 41:28Speaker 2: now is insane because if you would have told me
- 41:31Speaker 2: that five years ago, I would have punched myself in
- 41:32Speaker 2: the face. But this was excellent and it is well deserved.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Agatha was awesome. But there's something about the dark and
- 41:39Speaker 2: grittiness of the DC universe and this specific Batman universe
- 41:44Speaker 2: that we're now in that is really really cool and
- 41:46Speaker 2: it's really fun to explore that way. So that's my choice.
- 41:52Speaker 1: I'm right there with you, DC. When's when's the pilot round? Right?
- 41:57Speaker 2: Just a captivating, so good.
- 42:00Speaker 1: First episode for scene. Honestly, the scene between him and
- 42:04Speaker 1: Alberto just I was glued.
- 42:07Speaker 3: But yeah, I.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Mean, ultimately we'll see where where both shows are going.
- 42:13Speaker 1: Very promising starts for both. I'm still very excited to
- 42:16Speaker 1: see what a Thought all along is going to do.
- 42:18Speaker 1: But yeah, right now, the Penguin, I wish there was
- 42:21Speaker 1: a second episode out right now, But you know, we're
- 42:25Speaker 1: here for.
- 42:25Speaker 3: The waiting game.
- 42:26Speaker 1: We're here for the waiting Yeah, and you know, we
- 42:30Speaker 1: will come back to this conversation to talk about both
- 42:33Speaker 1: endings when we do eventually cross those finish lines. But
- 42:37Speaker 1: in the meantime, we will be talking about our thoughts
- 42:40Speaker 1: every week about these episodes as they are coming out,
- 42:44Speaker 1: as well as the Rings of Power and other shows
- 42:46Speaker 1: and movies that are coming out. Nick, where can the
- 42:48Speaker 1: people keep up with the conversation awesome?
- 42:50Speaker 2: Yeah, you can find as on threads. We're there just
- 42:53Speaker 2: talking about you know, everything going on. Of course, just
- 42:55Speaker 2: like Joe mentioned, please, you know, let us know what
- 42:57Speaker 2: you think there. Hit the subscribe button you to, of course,
- 43:01Speaker 2: and let us know what you think in the comments
- 43:02Speaker 2: about these shows. I'd love to talk to you about that,
- 43:06Speaker 2: and also on Instagram and yeah, that's a that's where
- 43:09Speaker 2: you can find us. And until next time, neither review
- 43:12Speaker 2: be with you, babe.
- 43:15Speaker 1: You
