- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:03Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. Powered by Seahawks.com. Now, here's your host, Nassau Chobie.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome in to another edition of Hawk Talk. The Seahawks
- 0:13Speaker 1: getting ready to take on the Washington Commanders in the
- 0:16Speaker 1: nation's capital bump. Should be a great game. We're getting
- 0:20Speaker 1: to the Commanders in a second, but there's a couple
- 0:21Speaker 1: household things going on right now. Yeah. We're waiting to
- 0:24Speaker 1: see what's going to happen at quarterback. Mm-hmm. Sam Darnold
- 0:27Speaker 1: spoke to the media today. Coach McDonald said at his
- 0:29Speaker 1: press conference on Wednesday that they're hoping to have a
- 0:31Speaker 1: decision made by Friday on who's going to start. So
- 0:35Speaker 1: the nice thing, though, is we learned we're good either way.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Man, we went from ain't going to see him in
- 0:40Speaker 2: six weeks to we might see him this weekend. So
- 0:43Speaker 2: that's good. And if you don't see him this weekend,
- 0:45Speaker 2: Drew Locke has held it down. He's played some good football.
- 0:47Speaker 2: We're good either way, but you want to see your
- 0:49Speaker 2: top dog out there.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Yeah, and then another shout-out to Rodney Thomas, signed to
- 0:52Speaker 1: the 53-man roster.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:53Speaker 1: He started the last two games at safety, obviously, with
- 0:56Speaker 1: Tyler Cotter's injury. He only had one more elevation. They
- 0:58Speaker 1: made the move to sign him to the roster, which
- 1:00Speaker 1: is really cool just for him because he's done the work.
- 1:02Speaker 1: And he's going to be out there probably starting again
- 1:04Speaker 1: this week. And then also you have another move, Anthony Bradford.
- 1:09Speaker 1: He goes to IR, which is unfortunate. Another cool thing
- 1:12Speaker 1: with this team, that's why they're 70 strong. You got
- 1:15Speaker 1: Christian Haynes and Bo Stevens ready to rock and step
- 1:18Speaker 1: in there when AB comes back in four weeks.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Yeah, man. 70 deep is real. And last week we
- 1:24Speaker 2: saw Haynes get some run. We saw both Steven get
- 1:28Speaker 2: some run, too. So they prep for this. Now it's
- 1:30Speaker 2: time to go play some ball.
- 1:31Speaker 1: No, absolutely. And that's, again, people talk about it, and
- 1:34Speaker 1: they're actually about it. You need 70 to get through
- 1:36Speaker 1: a full season, and we've seen that already in full display.
- 1:38Speaker 1: And I mentioned Ty. We don't know about Ty Okada yet.
- 1:40Speaker 1: We're going to wait for the final injury report on Friday.
- 1:42Speaker 1: We'll see where he's at and his progress. But Rodney's
- 1:44Speaker 1: doing his thing. The Seahawks are in great shape. Let's
- 1:47Speaker 1: flip our attention over to the team they are playing.
- 1:49Speaker 1: That is the Washington Commanders. What's on tap? What's on tap? 0-2,
- 1:55Speaker 1: last place in the NFC East. Not West, like the
- 1:58Speaker 1: typo on my paper. They lost to the Philadelphia Eagles
- 2:01Speaker 1: 24-22 into the Dallas Cowboys 37-20 bump. They're in a
- 2:05Speaker 1: world of hurt right now. Let's just be frank. When
- 2:07Speaker 1: you lose your starting quarterback, Jalen Daniels, to a dislocated
- 2:10Speaker 1: elbow in the final play of the first half against
- 2:12Speaker 1: the Cowboys. Dan Quinn spoke Wednesday, said there's no timetable
- 2:16Speaker 1: for Jaden Daniels' return. Obviously no upside of talking about it.
- 2:19Speaker 1: They don't know. It could be a long time, could
- 2:21Speaker 1: be not. Marked the second straight season since the 2023
- 2:24Speaker 1: Heisman Trophy. One dislocated is not throwing arm elbow. That
- 2:28Speaker 1: happened against the Seahawks last time in primetime. It was
- 2:30Speaker 1: a bad scene there, Bob.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Yeah, it was, man.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I feel bad for Jaden. You get back and get healthy, man.
- 2:35Speaker 2: But let's talk about this game. The Cowboys jumped out
- 2:38Speaker 2: to a 17-3 lead in the second quarter before the
- 2:40Speaker 2: Commanders answered going eight plays 66 yards with a four-yard
- 2:44Speaker 2: touchdown to who?
- 2:45Speaker 3: Stephon Diggs. Still out there producing. I see you, dawg.
- 2:47Speaker 3: That made the score 17-10.
- 2:49Speaker 2: They would force a three and out on the next
- 2:51Speaker 2: possession and drive 64 yards down to the Cowboys' one-yard line.
- 2:55Speaker 2: And they had back-to-back incomplete passes, setting up a third
- 2:58Speaker 2: in goal with three seconds left. That's when Jalen dislocated
- 3:01Speaker 2: his elbow, tripped on his offensive lineman, putting his hand down,
- 3:04Speaker 2: just trying to make a play.
- 3:05Speaker 3: You see it pop out. You hear it.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Tom Brady's reaction live on air. You don't want to
- 3:11Speaker 2: see that, man. It's the same elbow that he hurt
- 3:13Speaker 2: a couple years ago, like you mentioned, or last year,
- 3:14Speaker 2: like you mentioned.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Just prayers up to that dude.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's just so unfortunate because you get tripped up.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know if the play works to
- 3:21Speaker 1: begin with because it looked like he had pressure right there. But, like,
- 3:25Speaker 1: you know how many times you've been tripped up and
- 3:26Speaker 1: you put a hand down and not dislocated your elbow?
- 3:29Speaker 1: I just hope for him it's not one of those
- 3:30Speaker 1: things where it's like, oh, you've loosened stuff up now.
- 3:33Speaker 1: So it's just going to pop out every single time.
- 3:35Speaker 1: It's like an ankle now. He better put a sleeve
- 3:37Speaker 1: on or something when he gets healthy. And it doesn't
- 3:40Speaker 1: help that he's not like a big dude to begin with.
- 3:42Speaker 1: So that's tough for him. You know, anyway, the Cowboys,
- 3:46Speaker 1: they go ahead. I don't even go through the rest
- 3:47Speaker 1: of the game. They go ahead and handle business against
- 3:49Speaker 1: this commander's team. We did get to see Marcus Mariota,
- 3:54Speaker 1: who we've seen before. He was 11 of 16, 111 yards,
- 3:56Speaker 1: one touchdown in relief. You mentioned Stephon Diggs. He had
- 3:59Speaker 1: five receptions for 47, two touchdowns. Scary Terry, we'll talk
- 4:03Speaker 1: about him. Terry McLaurin, only two receptions for 50 yards.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I'm a little interested about his lack of production right now,
- 4:08Speaker 1: even when Daniels was playing. Mariota's going to start again
- 4:11Speaker 1: against the Seahawks. For the Cowboys, Dak Prescott tore it up.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Four touchdowns, he did his thing. So it'll be interesting
- 4:16Speaker 1: to see, Bump, what jumps out to you when you
- 4:18Speaker 1: look at this head-to-head matchup?
- 4:19Speaker 3: Oh, man.
- 4:20Speaker 2: So numbers are starting to get real now. Two games,
- 4:23Speaker 2: we've got something.
- 4:23Speaker 1: We've got to stay up to size.
- 4:24Speaker 2: We're starting to see a little bit. So offensively, it's
- 4:28Speaker 2: an even matchup, right, on paper. You got Commanders who
- 4:31Speaker 2: rank 11th overall. The Hawks rank 12th. You got a
- 4:34Speaker 2: rush offense. That's where the Commanders have done a great job.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Them and the Bears have done a really good job
- 4:38Speaker 2: rushing the football. They're third overall. The Hawks are ninth.
- 4:40Speaker 2: And we look at pass offense. The Commanders are 21st.
- 4:43Speaker 2: The Hawks are 18th. A sneaky 18 because you know
- 4:46Speaker 2: what we got over here, Mr.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Number 11. That will light you up.
- 4:50Speaker 2: In points per game, the Hawks are 17th, averaging 22.
- 4:54Speaker 2: And the Commanders are 18th, averaging 21.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Yeah, no, right down the middle there. Obviously, I think
- 5:00Speaker 1: when you talked about the rushing stats, Daniels is a
- 5:02Speaker 1: huge part of that.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:03Speaker 1: And Marietto can run too, so they require for the
- 5:06Speaker 1: rushing attack, their QBs can run a little bit. Flipping
- 5:08Speaker 1: over to the defensive side, Seahawks, this is where the
- 5:10Speaker 1: advantage comes in. Seahawks number two in total defense, allowing
- 5:13Speaker 1: just 214 yards per game. Commanders 15th, allowing 325 yards
- 5:18Speaker 1: per game. Rush defense, Seahawks ninth in the NFL, allowing
- 5:22Speaker 1: 89 yards per game. They are 16th, allowing 101 yards
- 5:25Speaker 1: per game. Seahawks' pass defense only allowing 124.5 yards, a
- 5:30Speaker 1: game number one in the league. The Commanders, 224 yards,
- 5:34Speaker 1: 19th in the league. That was an issue for them
- 5:36Speaker 1: last year. So we'll see, especially if Darnold's back, that
- 5:39Speaker 1: could be a bad deal if we saw what happened
- 5:41Speaker 1: in that score last year. And then points allowed, the
- 5:43Speaker 1: Seahawks allowed 8.5 points. That's number two in the NFL.
- 5:46Speaker 1: The Commanders have allowed 30 points per game. That's 27th
- 5:49Speaker 1: in the NFL. So the Seahawks' defense, that just tells you,
- 5:52Speaker 1: Not even as much about the commanders. It just tells
- 5:54Speaker 1: you where the Seahawks defense is.
- 5:56Speaker 3: It is elite.
- 5:57Speaker 1: When you don't allow someone to complete a pass over
- 5:59Speaker 1: 10 yards in the National Football League, these guys get paid.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Man.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Coaches get paid a lot of money to complete passes
- 6:06Speaker 1: and do things, man.
- 6:07Speaker 3: You do that on any level. Yeah.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Pop Warner, high school, college. I mean, to corral a
- 6:13Speaker 2: passing game like that is impressive. Starts with the bigs
- 6:15Speaker 2: up front and the guys on the back end taking
- 6:17Speaker 2: care of business.
- 6:19Speaker 1: This defense is– Playing at a historic level because once
- 6:22Speaker 1: you do it again, that's the thing I'm going to
- 6:23Speaker 1: look at all year this year. The Legion of Boom
- 6:25Speaker 1: was what they were because they were dominant and they
- 6:28Speaker 1: were dominant for an extended amount of time. Four straight
- 6:30Speaker 1: years leading the league in scoring defense. This defense feels
- 6:33Speaker 1: similar the way they suffocate people. And once you do
- 6:36Speaker 1: it over a certain stretch, that's when you become legendary.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
- 6:39Speaker 1: That's where this dark side defense is trending. These teams
- 6:42Speaker 1: played last year. Let's know the history.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Know your history.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Series record, the Commanders actually lead the series record 13-11.
- 6:50Speaker 1: The Seahawks are 8-13 in the regular season, but have
- 6:53Speaker 1: a 3-0 record in the postseason. Seahawks have, though, won
- 6:56Speaker 1: the last three of four meetings. That includes last year's
- 7:00Speaker 1: beatdown on Sunday Night Football. Was not close. Dominating fashion.
- 7:03Speaker 1: The final score was 38-14, but we all know it
- 7:06Speaker 1: was not that close. Hawks jumped out to 28-0 lead
- 7:09Speaker 1: in the second quarter. The game was essentially over then.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Seahawks scored on all five first half possessions, including four touchdowns.
- 7:15Speaker 1: And Sam Darnall, holy smokes, he was Perfect in the
- 7:18Speaker 1: first half. 16 of 16, 282, four tutties. He finished
- 7:22Speaker 1: the day 21 of 24, 330. He became the fourth
- 7:25Speaker 1: quarterback since 1991 to throw for four touchdown passes before
- 7:28Speaker 1: his first incompletion. Jason went over 100 yards. Torrey Horton
- 7:32Speaker 1: had four of 48, two tuds. Elijah Arroyo caught his
- 7:35Speaker 1: first touchdown pass. Cody White.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Cody White.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Cody White doing his thing down there with the Raiders.
- 7:39Speaker 1: He had a touchdown. Jane Daniels wasn't great before he
- 7:42Speaker 1: got hurt. 16 of 22, 153, no touchdowns.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Interception.
- 7:46Speaker 1: That was the game the Seahawks put the nation on notice.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 7:48Speaker 1: There's something to be reckoned with. I'm hoping to see
- 7:50Speaker 1: a similar dominance on Sunday. Bump, there's a lot of connections, though,
- 7:54Speaker 1: between these teams.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Yeah, man. You got Dan Quinn.
- 7:57Speaker 2: He was a defensive coordinator for the 13 and 14
- 7:59Speaker 2: Super Bowls. Two stints with the Seahawks. You got Larry Izzo,
- 8:03Speaker 2: special teams coordinator. He's connected. You got Bobby Ingram. My God,
- 8:08Speaker 2: I didn't know he was over there. Let's go, Bobby.
- 8:11Speaker 2: I'm going to say what's up to Bobby. I wonder
- 8:12Speaker 2: if he got the same number.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Probably not.
- 8:14Speaker 2: You got John Glenn, special teams assistant. You got Ken Norton.
- 8:17Speaker 2: We all know the connection there. This was Pete's, like, homie.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Ride or die.
- 8:22Speaker 2: You got Brian Schneider as well. You got Daryl Tapp. Man,
- 8:26Speaker 2: lots of familiar names over there.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Tapp was a former team of yours too, right?
- 8:29Speaker 3: He was. Yep. Tapp was my guy, man. So, yeah.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Is this the old Hawks versus the new Hawks?
- 8:36Speaker 1: A little bit. If you look through their staff, though,
- 8:38Speaker 1: it's not just that. I started looking at the coaching staff.
- 8:40Speaker 1: I go, Wes Welker is a receivers coach on that staff.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Is he? Uh-huh. There's... There's just a lot of veteran
- 8:45Speaker 1: coaches on that staff. Obviously, they're not having the results there. But, like,
- 8:48Speaker 1: when you look at just the sheer number of years
- 8:51Speaker 1: of people doing things defensively, they got a lot of
- 8:53Speaker 1: years there. But, Bump, let's shift our attention back to
- 8:56Speaker 1: this NFC West. What's the word? Where my soldiers at?
- 9:00Speaker 3: Westside! Where my soldiers at?
- 9:02Speaker 1: Westside!
- 9:02Speaker 3: And the Seahawks are the NFC West champs again.
- 9:06Speaker 1: What's the word in the West on Hawk Talk?
- 9:10Speaker 2: Hawks in a familiar spot when it comes to the
- 9:12Speaker 2: NFC West. At the top of that thing, they're 2-0.
- 9:15Speaker 2: The Niners are 2-0 as well. Cardinals 1-1, and the
- 9:17Speaker 2: Rams got their first win of the season last week.
- 9:20Speaker 2: They are 1-1, but let's talk about this. Dolphins against
- 9:23Speaker 2: the 49ers, man. They beat them down, the Niners, man. 35-13.
- 9:28Speaker 2: They're now 2-0. They scored on their first five possessions
- 9:31Speaker 2: and didn't punt until.
- 9:32Speaker 3: The fourth quarter.
- 9:34Speaker 2: It might have actually been worse, but the Dolphins dominated
- 9:36Speaker 2: time of possession in the second quarter. They had a 17-play,
- 9:39Speaker 2: 63-yard drive.
- 9:40Speaker 3: They took nine minutes off the clock.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Then a 12-play, 58-yard drive ended with a field goal,
- 9:46Speaker 2: 524 off the clock. Rock Purdy, really efficient, 20 of 28, 287,
- 9:50Speaker 2: two touchdowns. He also rushed for 30 yards and a touchdown.
- 9:53Speaker 2: And then Christian McCaffrey was held to 23 yards rushing,
- 9:56Speaker 2: but he did have two touchdowns of his own.
- 9:59Speaker 3: Kittle had four.
- 10:00Speaker 2: For 80 and a touchdown you have Malik Willis he's
- 10:03Speaker 2: um he's learning how to be a pro in this
- 10:04Speaker 2: league yeah I had a what was he with the
- 10:06Speaker 2: uh Packers where he kind of made some noise last
- 10:08Speaker 2: year he was 14 of 23 197 one touchdown it's
- 10:12Speaker 2: going to be a long year for the Dolphins man
- 10:14Speaker 2: they came into the season with with a record of
- 10:16Speaker 2: more than $ 180 million in dead money.
- 10:19Speaker 3: On the salary cap. That's a lot of money to ask.
- 10:21Speaker 2: And the Niners did a good job just adjusting and
- 10:25Speaker 2: getting adjusted from getting that beat down, down under.
- 10:28Speaker 1: I mean, just getting back in the state, so clearly
- 10:31Speaker 1: it didn't affect them as much. The Niners are going
- 10:32Speaker 1: to be something to deal with.
- 10:33Speaker 3: We know that.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Do I think the Seahawks are still a better team
- 10:37Speaker 1: when it's all said and done? Depth of the roster, sure.
- 10:40Speaker 1: But they have Hall of Famers all over their lineup,
- 10:42Speaker 1: and they're playing good football. And right now, here's the
- 10:43Speaker 1: key bump, they're all healthy.
- 10:45Speaker 3: All healthy.
- 10:46Speaker 1: So it'll be interesting to see when Seahawks play them
- 10:47Speaker 1: in a couple weeks. Other game in the division, Giants
- 10:50Speaker 1: and Rams. Monday Night Football, it was about seeing can
- 10:53Speaker 1: the Rams bounce back. And they is what we saw
- 10:57Speaker 1: in Australia, who they are. Aaron Donald's debut, all that thing.
- 11:01Speaker 1: And unfortunately, while the Rams did dominate, they did their thing,
- 11:05Speaker 1: I would have wanted to see what happened if Jackson
- 11:06Speaker 1: Dart played the whole game. I'm not saying they win
- 11:09Speaker 1: the game, but God bless James Winston. He was great
- 11:12Speaker 1: at the World Cup, correspondence stuff. All the things that
- 11:15Speaker 1: he does.
- 11:16Speaker 3: He looked like he wasn't prepared.
- 11:19Speaker 1: It was tough.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Yeah, it was.
- 11:21Speaker 1: It was tough. The interception was the one I go.
- 11:24Speaker 1: That looked like I threw it. It was like a punt.
- 11:26Speaker 1: But anyway, he struggled mightily. Stafford, he had a great day. 22-32, 3-27,
- 11:32Speaker 1: four touchdowns, one interception. Stafford moved into sixth in NFL
- 11:35Speaker 1: history with 426th career touchdown pass topping Phillip Rivers. Me
- 11:40Speaker 1: and you have talked about it.
- 11:41Speaker 3: He's amazing.
- 11:42Speaker 1: He's a Hall of Famer, like, no doubt. Is there
- 11:44Speaker 1: any question anymore?
- 11:45Speaker 3: No, not at all. He's checked all the boxes.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Yeah, he's won a Super Bowl.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:49Speaker 1: The other guy who's probably another Hall of Famer, probably,
- 11:52Speaker 1: not even probably anymore, Devontae's a Hall of Famer, too, right?
- 11:54Speaker 3: Oh, for sure.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Were we even having that conversation either? 195?
- 11:57Speaker 3: Ain't he, like, 45 years old? Damn.
- 12:00Speaker 1: You know what was crazy? He was, I seen him
- 12:02Speaker 1: do the commercial where he has the little, he did
- 12:06Speaker 1: a hit with Kay Adams. Uh-huh. And I don't even
- 12:09Speaker 1: know if we should talk about that restaurant because they
- 12:10Speaker 1: didn't pay to be on here. But whatever you saw
- 12:12Speaker 1: in the commercial, he did it. I'm like, that's really
- 12:14Speaker 1: in your house?
- 12:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Anyway, he's crushing it, 195 yards, two touchdowns. He's doing
- 12:19Speaker 1: his thing. He's going to be something to reckon with
- 12:20Speaker 1: when the Seahawks play them down at Christmas. And then
- 12:22Speaker 1: Aaron Donald, what did you see from Donald, right? He
- 12:24Speaker 1: had three tackles, one TFL, slightly modified number of snaps.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Did he look like Aaron Donald of old? Yeah.
- 12:30Speaker 2: I mean, not quite. I think he got to ramp
- 12:32Speaker 2: up to that. But he looked like the best defensive
- 12:35Speaker 2: lineman on the field. And that's crazy saying– He didn't
- 12:38Speaker 2: look like the guy from three years ago.
- 12:40Speaker 3: No, he looked good, man. He's in shape.
- 12:41Speaker 2: He ain't aged one bit. I don't know what his
- 12:43Speaker 2: skin care products are. I need some of that. But, no,
- 12:46Speaker 2: he looked good. And the Rams looked good. So they're adjusting.
- 12:50Speaker 2: They're getting back. Yeah, 980 days, I think it was,
- 12:53Speaker 2: since the last time he had played. He wouldn't have
- 12:55Speaker 2: known it because he was out there doing his thing.
- 12:57Speaker 1: So we'll see. I'm more about longevity. How does he
- 12:59Speaker 1: maintain through an NFL season? So we'll wait to see there.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Giants darts out for the year, so their season could
- 13:05Speaker 1: go in a whole different direction.
- 13:06Speaker 3: It's a wrap for them. It's a wrap.
- 13:09Speaker 1: They might be looking to sign somebody. Who are you
- 13:11Speaker 1: going to sign? I don't know. You got to call
- 13:13Speaker 1: somebody off the street, apparently. What's Phillip doing?
- 13:15Speaker 2: I was talking to one of my friends, and I said,
- 13:18Speaker 2: you might as well call Russell Wilson. He was like, no,
- 13:20Speaker 2: I'll take Jameis over Russell. I go, nah, you'll take
- 13:22Speaker 2: Russell over Jameis. Bailey Zappi is out there. Jimmy Garoppolo
- 13:26Speaker 2: is out there.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Hey, Jimmy, yeah, you're right.
- 13:28Speaker 1: You're right.
- 13:28Speaker 3: There's people out there.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Anyway, Harbaugh's a good coach, so we'll see what he
- 13:31Speaker 1: does there. But let's get back into the current matchup.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Seahawks are on with the Washington Commanders. Man up. Hey,
- 13:37Speaker 1: who you got? Who you got? You know what time
- 13:40Speaker 1: it is.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Man up.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Man up, brother.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Man up.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Man up on Hawk Talk. We always do it. We
- 13:45Speaker 1: start with the quarterbacks. Not Jaden Daniels this time. We're
- 13:48Speaker 1: talking about Marcus Mariota against the Seahawks defense. Another year,
- 13:51Speaker 1: another major injury for Jaden Daniels. We know what happened.
- 13:54Speaker 1: That's tough luck for him. Once again, Oregon standout. Former
- 13:57Speaker 1: second overall pick in the 2015 draft. It's crazy. how
- 14:00Speaker 1: old he is now, because you see him out there
- 14:02Speaker 1: at the podium. He's got gray hair and all this stuff.
- 14:04Speaker 1: It just doesn't feel like that old. But 2015 was–
- 14:06Speaker 1: He ain't that old. 32, 33, he ain't that old.
- 14:09Speaker 1: But that gray, look at me, that gray will do
- 14:11Speaker 1: it to you. It'll catch you. It'll get you. In 2025,
- 14:14Speaker 1: Mariota started eight of 11 games, 139 for 227, 1,695 yards,
- 14:16Speaker 1: 10 touchdowns, seven interceptions. So not great, but not bad.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Key is someone, if people play well around him, he
- 14:27Speaker 1: can help you. He's still athletic. He can still run.
- 14:29Speaker 1: He can still throw the football. Last week, he played
- 14:32Speaker 1: okay in the second half, 11 for 16, 111, one touchdown.
- 14:35Speaker 1: He's definitely, like I said, he's a serviceable backup. In
- 14:38Speaker 1: the league, he started 82 games. Obviously, he started that
- 14:40Speaker 1: run with Tennessee. He's won a playoff game, thrown for
- 14:43Speaker 1: nearly 18,000 yards, 108 touchdowns. So he's a guy that
- 14:46Speaker 1: can hurt you.
- 14:47Speaker 3: He can play.
- 14:48Speaker 1: What I love, though, is where the Seahawks are at now.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Remember how scared we used to be of these backup
- 14:52Speaker 1: quarterbacks coming here and slaying it? Cole McCoy. Walford. Brett Huntley.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Yeah, not anymore.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Times have changed.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Good luck to you, brother.
- 15:02Speaker 2: All right, let's talk about our quarterbacks.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Drew Locke, Sam Donald. Who's going to start? We don't know,
- 15:07Speaker 3: but you know what? Drew Locke did his thing. It
- 15:10Speaker 3: made it clear.
- 15:11Speaker 2: He's the best backup in the league right now. There's
- 15:14Speaker 2: no question about it. And last week he was 19-26, 235,
- 15:18Speaker 2: three touchdowns, zero interceptions, a QB rating of 139.1 according
- 15:24Speaker 2: to NextGenStats. Drew Locke completed seven of 11 downfield attempts.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Those are passes over 10 yards for 175 against the Cardinals.
- 15:31Speaker 2: That is the second most of his career along with
- 15:34Speaker 2: two touchdowns. He also completed all eight of his play
- 15:37Speaker 2: action attempts for 71 yards. That's the most play action
- 15:42Speaker 2: completions as a Seahawk. Man, it's impressive watching Drew do
- 15:45Speaker 2: his thing.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Yeah, Drew is, he's just, what I've seen, I've seen
- 15:51Speaker 1: Drew behind the scenes over the years since he's been here,
- 15:54Speaker 1: he's right here.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Steady, always, whether he's starting, whether he's not, and he's just, like,
- 15:59Speaker 1: endearing in a way where, like, you've seen the clip
- 16:01Speaker 1: out there where he's like, hey, I got to end
- 16:03Speaker 1: the project. But then he goes out there and he's
- 16:05Speaker 1: a dog. He's about his business. There's a reason, you know,
- 16:08Speaker 1: you talk about Drew, people say he's the best athlete
- 16:10Speaker 1: that they've been around. Hoops, golf.
- 16:12Speaker 2: I actually went back and looked at his high school
- 16:14Speaker 2: hoop highlights.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Dude, it's insane. He's hooping. He could have played Division
- 16:17Speaker 1: I basketball.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Yeah, he's hooping.
- 16:18Speaker 1: No question about it. And there's some dogs in there. So, Drew,
- 16:20Speaker 1: if he's playing, we're not worried about it, what he's
- 16:22Speaker 1: done on the year. Four touchdowns, no interceptions, QB rating
- 16:25Speaker 1: of 127. Now, obviously, if Darnold is on the field,
- 16:28Speaker 1: he might be back in the fold sooner than we think.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Practiced yesterday, practiced today. Coach McDonald happened to have, hoping
- 16:34Speaker 1: to have a decision by Friday. So, we'll see where
- 16:37Speaker 1: that's at. Defensively, the commanders, they're okay against the pass.
- 16:40Speaker 1: They're 19th. So I think the Seahawks can definitely exploit
- 16:43Speaker 1: that portion of the game. Now, Bum, what else we
- 16:47Speaker 1: got here? Ja'Cory Kroski Merritt.
- 16:50Speaker 3: That's a name for you.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Rajal Wright against his Seahawks front seven.
- 16:54Speaker 3: Rashad. Is that Rashad from ASU? I think it is
- 16:56Speaker 3: Rashad from ASU.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Now, their running attack is solid. They're in the tops
- 17:01Speaker 1: of the league. It also, you know, you need the quarterback.
- 17:03Speaker 1: The quarterback's a big part of that. But Merritt's a
- 17:05Speaker 1: really cool story. What I like, seventh-round pick out of
- 17:08Speaker 1: three places, Alabama State, New Mexico, Arizona. As we get older,
- 17:11Speaker 1: we're going to hear that so much. That's the new
- 17:13Speaker 1: college football. What three places did he play at? But
- 17:17Speaker 1: his is a little different. He had some really good
- 17:19Speaker 1: seasons at Alabama State. He was at least elevating. He
- 17:21Speaker 1: wasn't transferring because he wasn't playing somewhere. Good season at
- 17:24Speaker 1: Alabama State, transfers to New Mexico, has 1,000 yards, 17 touchdowns,
- 17:28Speaker 1: then transfers to Arizona, goes for over 100 yards in
- 17:31Speaker 1: his first game. Then there's some issues about his eligibility.
- 17:34Speaker 1: He doesn't play again. He gets drafted in the seventh round.
- 17:38Speaker 1: At a good rookie year, the commander stepped into the
- 17:40Speaker 1: starting role after multiple injuries at running back. They started
- 17:42Speaker 1: last year with goodness and blanking on the dude from
- 17:46Speaker 1: the Chargers. Anyway, he ends up taking over the role
- 17:50Speaker 1: and 175 carries, 805 yards, eight touchdowns. He ranked fourth
- 17:55Speaker 1: in rushing yards and third in touchdowns among rookies in 2025.
- 17:57Speaker 1: He can do his thing. And White's in his fifth
- 18:00Speaker 1: NFL season, spending the first four in Tampa Bay, rushed
- 18:03Speaker 1: for more than 400 yards every season, 990 high in
- 18:07Speaker 1: 2023 or six touchdowns. Not a lot of production over
- 18:09Speaker 1: the first two weeks, but both of them are quality
- 18:12Speaker 1: backs in this league and can hurt you if you
- 18:13Speaker 1: allow it.
- 18:14Speaker 3: Yep, respect everybody. But you know what?
- 18:16Speaker 2: The Seahawks defense have not allowed 100-yard rusher for a
- 18:20Speaker 2: franchise record, 28 consecutive games, the longest streak in the NFL.
- 18:24Speaker 3: So let's shut these guys down. Let's make it 29 games.
- 18:27Speaker 3: All right, let's talk about our running game.
- 18:29Speaker 2: We got Jadarian Price, George Helani, Emmanuel Wilson against this
- 18:32Speaker 2: commander's defense. They made their presence felt against the Cardinals
- 18:35Speaker 2: when it comes to running the rock, especially in the
- 18:36Speaker 2: second half. Price ended the day on 52 carries, excuse me,
- 18:40Speaker 2: 52 yards on 13 carries.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Had a long of 25. He did fumble the rock,
- 18:44Speaker 3: but you know what?
- 18:45Speaker 2: That's his style. He's going to be physical. It's all good.
- 18:47Speaker 2: He's going to bounce back. He left the game with
- 18:49Speaker 2: a shoulder injury, so we'll keep.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Monitoring that situation.
- 18:51Speaker 1: He's back to practice, so that's looking good.
- 18:52Speaker 2: All right, looking good for sure. On the year, 23
- 18:54Speaker 2: carries for 104. Wilson, this was the guy. that made
- 18:58Speaker 2: his presence felt for real. Breakout performance, had 21 carries
- 19:02Speaker 2: on 92 yards and 10 of those carries for 49
- 19:05Speaker 2: yards on the last drive. What was it, like 16
- 19:07Speaker 2: plays or something like that? Yep, 16 plays, ran 15 runs.
- 19:10Speaker 2: I love that. As a team, the Seahawks ran the
- 19:13Speaker 2: ball 40 times.
- 19:15Speaker 3: All right, through two.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Games, the Commanders were allowing 101 yards per game, that
- 19:18Speaker 2: 16th in the NFL. There should be some opportunity. All
- 19:22Speaker 2: three backs have made plays. I know George Helani only
- 19:25Speaker 2: had 13 yards last game. but in the opener, he
- 19:29Speaker 2: had a good run or two. Price has had several
- 19:31Speaker 2: good runs. So has Wilson. The RB room is shaping up.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Oh, it's way better. The Seahawks didn't have that kind
- 19:37Speaker 1: of a game until like 10 weeks into the season
- 19:39Speaker 1: last year. So the fact that they were ready to
- 19:40Speaker 1: kind of have things going is a really good sign.
- 19:44Speaker 1: And let's flip it over to some of the weapons
- 19:45Speaker 1: for the commanders. These guys are, you know, Mary best friends.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Scary Terry, Terry McLaurin, Stefan Diggs into Seahawks secondary. Despite
- 19:56Speaker 1: inconsistent quarterback play, McLaurin has had a crazy good career.
- 20:01Speaker 1: He's been number one receiver for essentially the last eight years,
- 20:03Speaker 1: five straight 1,000-yard seasons, rear year in 2024 when Jayden
- 20:07Speaker 1: Daniels came onto the scene. So he finally has some
- 20:08Speaker 1: stability there. 82 receptions, over 1,000 yards, 13 touchdowns. Then
- 20:12Speaker 1: he holds out. Big contract extension. Expectations are there. Last
- 20:16Speaker 1: year didn't go that way. He gets injured, seven games,
- 20:18Speaker 1: quad injury. Jayden Daniels gets hurt. Everyone kind of expecting
- 20:22Speaker 1: him to return to form in 2026. That hasn't been
- 20:25Speaker 1: the case in two games.
- 20:26Speaker 3: No, not yet.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Four receptions on 13 targets, 64 yards, zero touchdowns, which
- 20:31Speaker 1: is pretty crazy. And again, the NFL is crazy like that.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Things can happen. You just don't like to see four
- 20:36Speaker 1: receptions on 13 targets.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the issue right there. And he got to
- 20:41Speaker 2: take some blame. It's separation, but also quarterback got to
- 20:44Speaker 2: take some blame too. And then Diggs, he's now been
- 20:48Speaker 2: on four teams in four years. But when he's on
- 20:51Speaker 2: the field, he's dangerous.
- 20:51Speaker 1: He's performing bump, four-time Pro Bowler, first-team All-Pro in 2020,
- 20:55Speaker 1: six straight 1,000-yard seasons from 2018 to 2023. He was
- 20:59Speaker 1: hurt in Houston, and he might have continued that streak.
- 21:02Speaker 1: He might have had another one there. Then he goes
- 21:03Speaker 1: to New England, has another 1,000 yards. Super Bowl against Seahawks,
- 21:06Speaker 1: he didn't really do much. Three for 37. Two games
- 21:09Speaker 1: with the Commanders, nine receptions, 102 yards, three touchdowns. He
- 21:12Speaker 1: didn't have that penalty, but he's playing well. These two guys, granted,
- 21:17Speaker 1: if this was like 2023, I'd feel a lot more
- 21:23Speaker 1: concerned about the matchup, but they are still two guys
- 21:25Speaker 1: that can get open, can get separation. They will hurt
- 21:28Speaker 1: you if you allow it. Third round pick, the rookie,
- 21:30Speaker 1: Antonio Williams, has seven receptions, 88 yards, and a touchdown.
- 21:33Speaker 1: The Seahawks are number one in passing defense, so like
- 21:35Speaker 1: If there's a matchup I like, it's Witherspoon, it's Jobe,
- 21:38Speaker 1: it's Love, Imanwari's back out there. Thomas has stepped in
- 21:43Speaker 1: noon thing. Nehemiah Pritchett has played well, so I like
- 21:45Speaker 1: this for the Seahawks.
- 21:46Speaker 3: I do. I like the matchup, but you said it.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Diggs and McLaurin are liable to go off, so let's
- 21:51Speaker 2: keep an eye on them and hope this defense does
- 21:54Speaker 2: what it usually does. Our guys, we got JSN, Cooper Cutt,
- 21:58Speaker 2: Rashid Shaheed against his Cardinals secondary. JSN continues to be
- 22:02Speaker 2: a walking highlight rib. This is what he does. Nine
- 22:05Speaker 2: receptions for 155 on 11 targets and three touchdowns last week.
- 22:10Speaker 2: With 155 yards, JSN now ranks third in franchise history
- 22:13Speaker 2: for most receiving yards in a player's first four seasons.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Imagine if he was a true number one his first year.
- 22:20Speaker 2: He'd probably shatter everything by this point.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Really for the first year and a half. He didn't
- 22:25Speaker 1: really take number one seven until DK got hurt.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Got hurt against the Rams and then he went crazy, right?
- 22:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:30Speaker 2: He set career high with three receiving touchdowns and became
- 22:32Speaker 2: the first Seahawks player with three since DK Metcalf in 2023.
- 22:36Speaker 2: The four-time JSN has had multiple touchdowns in one game.
- 22:40Speaker 3: He's the best receiver in the game right now, man.
- 22:42Speaker 2: He's just the second player in NFL history to record
- 22:44Speaker 2: each of his team's first four touchdowns of the season.
- 22:47Speaker 3: He's, I mean, what?
- 22:49Speaker 2: I think every week we're going to keep adding on
- 22:51Speaker 2: to his records and his legacy, and I'm here for it.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Through two weeks, Jason leads the NFL in yards and touchdowns.
- 22:58Speaker 2: He's third in receptions. So that's 17 receptions, 270 yards,
- 23:02Speaker 2: and four touchdowns. What about my guy Cooper Cupp?
- 23:05Speaker 1: Coop. He is. Coop's a guy that is so important
- 23:10Speaker 1: to the operation. I don't care what the box score says.
- 23:12Speaker 1: He only has four receptions on five targets, 55 yards.
- 23:15Speaker 1: One of them a crazy one-handed grab. He's still doing
- 23:17Speaker 1: his thing. I think it's one of those where there's
- 23:20Speaker 1: just going to be a couple games and a couple
- 23:21Speaker 1: moments where you're going to need to lean on him
- 23:23Speaker 1: and he's going to come through. Last year. You know,
- 23:25Speaker 1: there's a couple there. He had a game against Houston,
- 23:27Speaker 1: but NFC Championship game, Super Bowl. He had some really
- 23:30Speaker 1: big moments, big catches. He's going to do his thing.
- 23:33Speaker 1: And if he's not getting the ball, he's doing something
- 23:35Speaker 1: to influence. Every time you see Cooper Cup on a field,
- 23:37Speaker 1: he's talking to someone. They're going over stuff. He's a
- 23:39Speaker 1: coach out there. But I do expect him to have
- 23:42Speaker 1: a big game at some point. That just hasn't happened yet.
- 23:44Speaker 1: And then Rasheed Shaheed. He's the one I really want
- 23:46Speaker 1: to see. We're kind of starting to see a little
- 23:48Speaker 1: bit there. He had three for 35 last week. He
- 23:51Speaker 1: didn't fumble a kickoff. But I'm looking for a big
- 23:53Speaker 1: bounce back game from Shaheed. I think... That's the last thing.
- 23:57Speaker 1: If he, Bump, can go to the next level, this
- 23:59Speaker 1: offense is going to be.
- 24:01Speaker 3: You imagine. You could quite possibly have.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Now, the numbers might not say it when it comes
- 24:06Speaker 2: to Shahid, but the most explosive receiving corner game with
- 24:10Speaker 2: what Jason's able to do and just the potential of
- 24:13Speaker 2: Rashid Shahid.
- 24:14Speaker 3: He's liable.
- 24:15Speaker 2: I mean, Jason had an 82-yard touchdown. Rashid Shahid's liable
- 24:18Speaker 2: to get one of those as well. He can get
- 24:20Speaker 2: behind the defense and go. If we can get like
- 24:22Speaker 2: five or six explosive plays from him this season in
- 24:25Speaker 2: clutch moments, I'll be all good.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Yeah, because then now if you're the corner, everyone talks
- 24:29Speaker 1: about why aren't they doubling, why aren't they doubling? Okay,
- 24:31Speaker 1: so someone over the top, someone underneath, bracket, whatever you
- 24:33Speaker 1: want to call it. Well, if Rashid Jaheed is now
- 24:36Speaker 1: making plays in the pass game, it limits what you
- 24:39Speaker 1: can do. Now you're picking your poison, right? So, I mean,
- 24:41Speaker 1: here's the deal. Without big explosive plays from Rashid Jaheed
- 24:45Speaker 1: right now, People can't stop Jason. Right.
- 24:48Speaker 3: Imagine.
- 24:48Speaker 1: So what happened? I mean, come on now. The possibilities
- 24:51Speaker 1: are endless. Seahawks taking on the Commanders this Sunday, bright
- 24:55Speaker 1: and early. We're going to tell you how to get
- 24:56Speaker 1: that done. Path to victory. At the 45, waits for
- 25:00Speaker 1: the snap.
- 25:02Speaker 3: Michael Dixon puts it down.
- 25:03Speaker 1: That kick is away. And that kick is good! The
- 25:07Speaker 1: Seahawks win! It's good! It's a path to victory on
- 25:11Speaker 1: Hawk Talk. Another week, another opportunity for the Seahawks to
- 25:14Speaker 1: show how dominant they can be. They're facing a team
- 25:17Speaker 1: that is desperate. They don't want to go on three.
- 25:19Speaker 1: They're missing their starting quarterback. But Ernest Jones was on
- 25:23Speaker 1: the huddle today, Bump, and he said a couple things
- 25:25Speaker 1: that really stuck with me. Because they realized, this team,
- 25:29Speaker 1: when they were in Tennessee, that they are going to
- 25:32Speaker 1: get everybody's best shot. They had that joint practice where
- 25:35Speaker 1: they didn't come out the way they wanted to. Tennessee
- 25:37Speaker 1: got a couple plays. And we know the delta between
- 25:39Speaker 1: the two teams, right? But when they're playing the Seahawks,
- 25:43Speaker 1: they're going to give it everything they got. Their best shot,
- 25:45Speaker 1: every team. That was a good wake-up call. And since then,
- 25:47Speaker 1: this defense has been absolutely dominant. So I hope they
- 25:51Speaker 1: continue that, making things uncomfortable for Marcus Mariota. He needs
- 25:54Speaker 1: to be pressured. Contain him in the pocket. Make third
- 25:57Speaker 1: and longs. If you're a quarterback, you have to sit
- 25:58Speaker 1: there and pat the football and third and long. Good luck.
- 26:01Speaker 1: You don't stand a chance against this defense, so I'm
- 26:03Speaker 1: looking forward to it.
- 26:04Speaker 3: Yep, man. Of course, stop the run.
- 26:06Speaker 2: You have one of the most impressive streaks alive and
- 26:08Speaker 2: kicking when it comes to the run game. Let's keep
- 26:11Speaker 2: it up against the Commanders. This is 28 games without
- 26:14Speaker 2: a 100-yard rusher. Let's make it 29. Contain Scary Terry
- 26:18Speaker 2: and Stephon Diggs. Man, they're established receivers. I know they're
- 26:21Speaker 2: getting a little long in the tooth, but you know what?
- 26:23Speaker 2: Those old receivers can hit you every now and then,
- 26:26Speaker 2: and you got to contain them, man.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Keep eliminating the big play.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Yeah, no, that's the one thing they've done all season long,
- 26:33Speaker 1: so I'm excited for that. And then offensively, we know
- 26:36Speaker 1: what it is. Whoever's starting a quarterback, you do your thing.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Sam Darnold, I would just love to see you play
- 26:40Speaker 1: a full game and just get back to where you
- 26:41Speaker 1: were last season. If it's not Sam, if it's Drew,
- 26:43Speaker 1: Drew put on full display. The Seahawks can win and
- 26:46Speaker 1: win in dominating fashion with him at quarterback. If you
- 26:49Speaker 1: can get Shahid and Cup involved, that's just the next thing.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Keep putting more things on tape. Another business trip coming
- 26:55Speaker 1: up in the nation's capital. This week, we're going to
- 26:58Speaker 1: be joining you on the Seahawks pregame show bright and early.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Get a cup of coffee, 7 a.m. Michael Bumpus, Paul Moyer,
