• 2:35
Speaker 3: three five five zero zero. Wait, so a little change
• 2:37
Speaker 3: this morning. I want to tell you about a unique
• 2:41
Speaker 3: promotion that's being sponsored by a local business of one
• 2:44
Speaker 3: of our good advertisers here on our stations. It's a
• 2:47
Speaker 3: Liberty Road children's clothier and toy company there on the
• 2:50
Speaker 3: Bridge Road. And I had originally planned to talk to
• 2:53
Speaker 3: the owner, Jessica backus about this. Jessica had a little
• 2:56
Speaker 3: scheduling conflict and so she's currently flying over the Atlantic
• 3:02
Speaker 3: or one of those big bodies of water Atlantic. Midt,
• 3:04
Speaker 3: she's flying over the mid Atlantic. Yes, okay, Well, the
• 3:07
Speaker 3: role of Jessica backus will be played by one of
• 3:10
Speaker 3: our account reps here sales weasels Bobby Sprite.
• 3:14
Speaker 5: How you doing, Bobby, I'm great, Thank you so much
• 3:16
Speaker 5: for having me and what a beautiful introducts.
• 3:18
Speaker 3: Yeah, well, you know, it is what it is. But
• 3:21
Speaker 3: Jessica again, we plan on having her here, but sometimes
• 3:23
Speaker 3: scheduling problems arise, and so Bobby and I who share
• 3:28
Speaker 3: an office up there, it's at the fund Zone. We
• 3:29
Speaker 3: call itself. Bobby and Stephanie, Paully and Amanda and TJ
• 3:35
Speaker 3: and Leah. You know, we're all we're the only office
• 3:38
Speaker 3: in the building that's got not only a putting green,
• 3:40
Speaker 3: but a disco ball.
• 3:41
  Speaker 5: That's correct.
• 3:41
Speaker 3: That's why we call it the fund Zoe. But anyway,
• 3:43
Speaker 3: Bobby handles the account for Liberty Row and so she
• 3:46
Speaker 3: has agreed to step in. So what are they doing here, ROBERTA.
• 3:50
Speaker 5: Well, first of all, I want to thank them so
• 3:52
Speaker 5: much for asking me to come on air and represent them.
• 3:55
Speaker 5: But right now, so it's their twenty fifth wedding anniversary Troup.
• 4:00
Speaker 5: Her husband and Andy decided to take her to Paris,
• 4:02
Speaker 5: so they are also pregnant.
• 4:04
Speaker 3: It's in France, right, I'm just asking, and.
• 4:09
Speaker 5: So there she's pregnant. Their little one they found out
• 4:13
Speaker 5: has some heart issues, so they decided to take this
• 4:15
Speaker 5: anniversary trip two years early. So they're excited to get back.
• 4:19
Speaker 5: But many of you may not know this. Ally, this
• 4:23
Speaker 5: is going to be their ninth baby, and all of
• 4:25
Speaker 5: their kids are named after president's president.
• 4:28
Speaker 3: Let's back up, nine kids.
• 4:30
  Speaker 6: Nine kids.
• 4:31
  Speaker 5: I mean, when you're in love, you're.
• 4:32
Speaker 3: A mom and you've got two and that's enough for me.
• 4:35
Speaker 5: That is enough for me.
• 4:37
Speaker 3: So they've got nine kids.
• 4:38
  Speaker 5: Nine kids.
• 4:39
Speaker 3: This is going to be number nine.
• 4:40
Speaker 5: This is going to be number nine, okay, all right, yeah.
• 4:42
Speaker 3: So they're all named after president.
• 4:44
Speaker 5: Their first names are the last names of presidents. So
• 4:46
Speaker 5: right now they're running this promotion on their website shop
• 4:49
Speaker 5: Liberty Road dot com. You have the opportunity to name
• 4:54
Speaker 5: their little baby boy. So you you just go on
• 4:57
Speaker 5: their website, send them a suggestion, and you would be
• 5:00
Speaker 5: entered to win a one hundred dollars Liberty Row gift card.
• 5:03
Speaker 3: So, I mean, what made them because you've been talking
• 5:07
Speaker 3: about this in the office when we set up this interview.
• 5:09
Speaker 3: What made them decide to go this route? Were they
• 5:11
Speaker 3: just out of names at this point?
• 5:13
Speaker 5: I think you know what they have such they really
• 5:16
Speaker 5: truly value our community so much like supporting the Queen
• 5:20
Speaker 5: Beee softball team, United Way of West Virginia, exceptional possibilities,
• 5:24
Speaker 5: the children's theater, and so much more. Excuse me. So
• 5:28
Speaker 5: they just wanted to do something that would engage the
• 5:30
Speaker 5: community and bring also bring an awareness of the importance
• 5:34
Speaker 5: of shopping local, because we give back to our local
• 5:37
Speaker 5: businesses and they will continue to give back to our community.
• 5:40
Speaker 5: So they just wanted to raise awareness about their shop
• 5:44
Speaker 5: and give people the opportunity to name their little one. Now,
• 5:48
Speaker 5: of course, they will have final say on what goes
• 5:50
Speaker 5: on the birth certificate.
• 5:52
Speaker 3: So I mean it's last names. Is what they do
• 5:54
Speaker 3: for the president last name.
• 5:56
Speaker 5: So there's Monroe Liberty, who Liberty Row is named after.
• 6:00
Speaker 5: Right now while they're out of town.
• 6:02
Speaker 3: There's the president was named Liberty.
• 6:04
Speaker 5: No her first name Monroe, Ah, I gotta row Liberty,
• 6:09
Speaker 5: and so they just switched those when they name the store, Okay,
• 6:12
Speaker 5: go ahead, and that Jefferson Harrison. There's just to name
• 6:18
Speaker 5: a few of the names. I cannot remember them all,
• 6:21
Speaker 5: but they wanted to, you know, engage us and ask
• 6:24
Speaker 5: us our thoughts. I submitted one. Do you want to
• 6:27
Speaker 5: know what it was? Was with Garfield?
• 6:29
Speaker 3: I was going to say, that's the first thing that
• 6:31
Speaker 3: popped up. Would there be a garfielder there? Somebody else?
• 6:35
Speaker 3: I was talking to somebody from one of our other
• 6:36
Speaker 3: stations today that ask about Rutherford if that was going
• 6:39
Speaker 3: to be well, actually it would be Hayes because of
• 6:41
  Speaker 3: Rutherford Hayes.
• 6:41
Speaker 5: She already has a haz Hayes. Yes, and she loves Buchanan, Okay,
• 6:47
Speaker 5: but then everyone's going to call him buck.
• 6:48
Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, So I mean does she know is it
• 6:52
  Speaker 3: going to.
• 6:52
  Speaker 7: Be a boy.
• 6:52
Speaker 5: It's going to be a boy?
• 6:53
  Speaker 3: A boy?
• 6:53
  Speaker 6: Yes.
• 6:54
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 6:54
Speaker 5: We did that remote a couple of months ago where
• 6:56
Speaker 5: they announced the sex of the baby.
• 6:57
Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, in a time when people, you know,
• 7:01
Speaker 3: you're hearing O the news all the time, people aren't
• 7:02
Speaker 3: having kids, they are.
• 7:05
Speaker 5: Well, we can count on the backuses nine kids.
• 7:08
Speaker 3: I mean, you know years ago, I mean like my
• 7:10
Speaker 3: grandparents' generation, that wasn't that wasn't unheard of. I mean
• 7:13
Speaker 3: I think my dad was one of like eight. Yeah,
• 7:16
Speaker 3: and that was but you needed them to work the farms.
• 7:18
Speaker 5: You know, right, Well, they have a store.
• 7:20
Speaker 3: I was going to say, are they just working the store?
• 7:22
Speaker 5: Yeshorthor Jefferson has been manning the store since they've been gone,
• 7:26
Speaker 5: since they've been out of town, and he is one
• 7:28
Speaker 5: of the most well rounded. I believe he is sixteen,
• 7:32
Speaker 5: he could be younger. Just amazing. All of them are
• 7:35
Speaker 5: amazing kids. They've done such an excellent, excellent job raising them,
• 7:39
Speaker 5: and I'm excited for them. This little one is going
• 7:42
Speaker 5: to have some health issues, but they are probably one
• 7:45
Speaker 5: of the most positive families I've ever encountered.
• 7:47
Speaker 3: All Right, So tell us about the store itself. I mean,
• 7:51
Speaker 3: I've had Jessica and Andy on the on the show before,
• 7:54
Speaker 3: but to talk about for people that aren't familiar, it's
• 7:56
Speaker 3: a very unique shop here and it's on Bridge Road, Charleston,
• 8:00
Speaker 3: but talk about it is so it.
• 8:01
Speaker 5: Started off as just a children's clothing store, but it
• 8:05
Speaker 5: has evolved to gifts. You have family matching outfits, swimwear.
• 8:11
Speaker 5: I got a lot of Easter stuff for Charlie's basket
• 8:14
Speaker 5: from there. It's beautiful. It's up on ten It's ten
• 8:18
Speaker 5: twelve Bridge right next to ten ten Free convenient parking.
• 8:23
Speaker 5: The storefront is beautiful and Andy's really into Frank Sinatra,
• 8:28
Speaker 5: Dean Martin, the rat Pack. So that's the type of
• 8:31
Speaker 5: music you encounter when you walk into the store.
• 8:33
Speaker 3: I'll talk about the toys. The toys, I mean, because
• 8:36
Speaker 3: that's the official name is like Liberty Career, Clothing, Air.
• 8:40
Speaker 5: And Toy Store. Yes, they have tons of toys. The
• 8:45
Speaker 5: crayons that will write on anything but wipe off everything.
• 8:48
Speaker 3: They have trains and this is not the kind of
• 8:51
Speaker 3: toys that you're going to get at a major toy store.
• 8:53
Speaker 3: This this has got collectible kind of things, a little
• 8:57
Speaker 3: vintage kind of thing.
• 8:59
Speaker 5: They're the things you're gonna on to your kids and
• 9:01
Speaker 5: then they're going to pass on to their kids. High
• 9:03
Speaker 5: quality toys. What are the heirloom toys or generational toys.
• 9:08
Speaker 5: Just a lot of unique gifts and the vibe in
• 9:11
Speaker 5: there is beautiful. Everything is.
• 9:15
  Speaker 6: The clothes too.
• 9:16
Speaker 5: The same thing with the clothes, their heirloom clothes. You
• 9:19
Speaker 5: know your daughter is going to wear this, she's going
• 9:21
Speaker 5: to pass it on to her daughter.
• 9:22
Speaker 3: Okay, we had a from the tax line here. It
• 9:24
Speaker 3: says Wilson Grant Pierce Hoover, potential presidential names and much
• 9:29
  Speaker 3: better than Buchanan.
• 9:31
  Speaker 5: I love that. Actually, I love Peers. Peers, it's a
• 9:34
  Speaker 5: great name.
• 9:35
Speaker 3: What about Trump, you could name one Trump.
• 9:36
Speaker 5: I am going to not add a comment on well,
• 9:40
Speaker 5: I'm just saying, you know, yeah, I'd call them rum.
• 9:43
Speaker 3: Yeah, uh Trump, Obama. We can try to get it
• 9:47
Speaker 3: into like in the modern era. Biden.
• 9:49
Speaker 5: You know, a lot a lot of people like Nixon.
• 9:51
Speaker 5: But because of that, you know, that bad reputation.
• 9:57
Speaker 3: One night in the summer of near But other than that,
• 10:02
  Speaker 3: other than that.
• 10:02
Speaker 5: It's a strong, powerful name. But yeah, the connotation that
• 10:05
Speaker 5: goes along with it.
• 10:06
Speaker 3: Kennedy, I mean, I'm trying to have Kennedy. They have
• 10:09
  Speaker 3: a Kennedy. H Ford.
• 10:11
Speaker 5: They have a Ford, Okay, Carter. I don't think they
• 10:15
  Speaker 5: have a Carter.
• 10:16
  Speaker 3: Okay Bush.
• 10:18
Speaker 5: I am not gonna call my gay Bush and I went.
• 10:20
Speaker 3: Well, my friend, Okay. Well, so how do people enter
• 10:24
  Speaker 3: the contest?
• 10:24
Speaker 5: So you can go on to their website shop Libertyroad
• 10:27
Speaker 5: dot com and it will pop right up there. It's
• 10:30
Speaker 5: the first thing that you see. You type in your suggestion,
• 10:33
Speaker 5: leave your name and email. You will also get a
• 10:36
Speaker 5: bounce back email that says thank you for submission and
• 10:40
Speaker 5: they will be when they come back from Paris. They're
• 10:42
Speaker 5: going to be announcing the winner and the official name
• 10:46
Speaker 5: of their little boy.
• 10:46
Speaker 3: Now where will they announce that will be?
• 10:48
Speaker 5: Uh, it will be up at their shop, probably during
• 10:51
Speaker 5: one of their Facebook live I do.
• 10:52
Speaker 3: I mean, I got to say day to some of
• 10:55
Speaker 3: the best Facebook live stuff that you have ever seen.
• 10:58
Speaker 3: They have way too much fun.
• 10:59
  Speaker 5: With certainly entertaining.
• 11:01
  Speaker 3: It is very entertaining, and it's a great it's a
• 11:03
Speaker 3: great business for this area too, because I mean it's unique.
• 11:07
Speaker 3: There's nothing like this. You're not going to go to
• 11:08
  Speaker 3: a mall and find anything like this. It's a it's
• 11:11
Speaker 3: just one of the many great shops that they have
• 11:13
Speaker 3: up here on Bridge Road, right.
• 11:14
Speaker 5: And you can find some things online, but wouldn't you
• 11:17
Speaker 5: rather shop local? Right? And it's just it's a great experience.
• 11:22
Speaker 5: You're either going to run into jess Andy or one
• 11:25
Speaker 5: of her kids that are there to help you out.
• 11:27
Speaker 5: You can go on try try clothes on as opposed
• 11:30
Speaker 5: to I mean you go to the mall. Now it's
• 11:32
Speaker 5: five dollars even park and I'm not sure what's left
• 11:35
Speaker 5: over there. So this is really one of the only
• 11:37
Speaker 5: places in town that you can go and shop really
• 11:40
Speaker 5: nice clothes for your kids that are going to last
• 11:43
Speaker 5: and not fall apart.
• 11:44
Speaker 3: And it's not something that when your kid goes to
• 11:47
Speaker 3: school that you're every kid's gonna have the same thing
• 11:50
Speaker 3: on either. Although kids, some kids probably like that, I guess.
• 11:53
Speaker 5: Oh yeah, you know, they want to be like everyone else.
• 11:55
Speaker 5: But this is definitely like you're going to stand out,
• 11:58
Speaker 5: it's going to last, it's you're going to look your
• 12:02
Speaker 5: kids are going to look great in it and feel great,
• 12:04
Speaker 5: and it's high quality.
• 12:05
Speaker 3: So all right, and let's and by the way, you
• 12:07
Speaker 3: and I both just received a text on This is
• 12:09
Speaker 3: from my personal phone and your personal phone, from Tony
• 12:11
Speaker 3: to Taylor. Do not read that text on the air.
• 12:14
Speaker 3: That's all I'm going to say. Do not read that text.
• 12:17
Speaker 3: I'm op it, Yeah, don't just good way to what
• 12:20
Speaker 3: do you go upstairs and calling Ashley from HR to
• 12:23
Speaker 3: set beside you before you when you read that. All right,
• 12:26
Speaker 3: I appreciate Bobby you stepping up to the plate here
• 12:29
Speaker 3: because again, the folks back the back of I are
• 12:33
Speaker 3: are flying back from from Paris as we speak right now.
• 12:36
Speaker 3: But go to over to their website and they'll have
• 12:39
Speaker 3: an announcement. When will it be? I mean you may
• 12:41
Speaker 3: have said that, but when.
• 12:42
Speaker 5: It was going to be tomorrow. It may still be tomorrow,
• 12:45
Speaker 5: but they may push it back.
• 12:47
Speaker 3: Well, how about you either come back on the show

• 16:21
Speaker 3: how some are viewed with the passing of time. And
• 16:26
Speaker 3: you knows most presidents, somebody's going to have an issue
• 16:30
Speaker 3: with them when they're in office, whether they're Republican, Democrat

Speaker 3: forget that Nixon did a lot of really really good

Speaker 6: Good morning, Dave, thanks for having me.

Speaker 3: I gotta ask you because you see I'm from Logan

Speaker 3: County and down there we pronounced it de heart is it?

Speaker 3: Would you prefer to heart?

Speaker 6: And that's fine, all right.
• 18:12
Speaker 3: That you're here for a very important cause to tell
• 18:15
  Speaker 3: us about them.
• 18:16
Speaker 11: So I'm here representing West Virginia Breast Health Initiative for
• 18:19
Speaker 11: our annual Race for the Ribbon that's happening in this
• 18:22
Speaker 11: Saturday at the West Virginia State Capitol.
• 18:24
Speaker 3: And how many years has this been going on for
• 18:26
  Speaker 3: us as.
• 18:28
Speaker 11: One hundred percent West Virginia organization. We've been doing this
• 18:32
  Speaker 11: for eight years.
• 18:33
Speaker 3: All right? And have you've been involved all years? All
• 18:36
  Speaker 3: eight years?
• 18:36
  Speaker 2: Okay?
• 18:37
Speaker 3: What is it that makes this event so so popular?
• 18:42
Speaker 11: This it's the only fundraiser that we do all year.
• 18:45
Speaker 11: It's the one that we put our efforts into. And
• 18:48
Speaker 11: it's the one where survivors from five to six even
• 18:53
Speaker 11: seven different states join us on Saturday, survivors from over
• 18:56
Speaker 11: two hundred different West Virginia communities. We usually have around
• 19:01
Speaker 11: one thousand people there and ten percent of those are
• 19:03
Speaker 11: breast cancer survivors from all over And also there's a
• 19:07
Speaker 11: lot of people that are there honoring people that they've lost,
• 19:12
Speaker 11: remembering people that that we've lost in the past few years,
• 19:18
Speaker 11: and we miss them every day, so we like to
• 19:21
Speaker 11: keep them at the forefront of our Saturday as well.
• 19:24
Speaker 3: Talk about breast cancer and breast cancer research. You know,
• 19:29
Speaker 3: there was a time, Donna, as you well know, years ago,
• 19:33
Speaker 3: decades ago, that somebody said the C word. You said, well,
• 19:37
Speaker 3: that's pretty much it, and it's certainly not that way
• 19:41
Speaker 3: with any type cancer now, but there's been so many
• 19:43
Speaker 3: things that have been done with breast cancer over the years.
• 19:46
Speaker 11: Talk about the research, well, I think breast cancer has
• 19:51
Speaker 11: come a long way. I know when my grandmother's and
• 19:53
  Speaker 11: a lot of people's grandmother it was a grandmother's disease.
• 19:56
Speaker 11: And back in those days, people just didn't talk about
• 19:59
Speaker 11: they didn't talk about breast let alone cancer, you know,
• 20:02
Speaker 11: and so breast cancer as a whole just really wasn't
• 20:05
Speaker 11: on the table. So now we're trying to get it
• 20:07
Speaker 11: to be part of an everyday conversation. Currently in West Virginia,
• 20:13
Speaker 11: breast cancer is now as of the last couple of years.
• 20:16
Speaker 11: It is the leading cancer that kills West Virginia women
• 20:20
Speaker 11: number one. That's what it does, right, And we think
• 20:24
Speaker 11: I was talking to somebody yesterday about that, and it
• 20:27
Speaker 11: has to be because women are such caregivers and they
• 20:30
Speaker 11: take such good care of everybody else that for us
• 20:34
Speaker 11: to try to get them to get in and do
• 20:36
Speaker 11: something that will help them, like get screened early, I mean,
• 20:39
Speaker 11: they just put themselves last.
• 20:43
Speaker 6: And early detection is key.
• 20:44
Speaker 11: And in West Virginia, on average, in West Virginia, three
• 20:48
Speaker 11: hundred and ten women die every single week, now three
• 20:53
Speaker 11: you know, this week and next week. I mean, it's
• 20:56
Speaker 11: just varies. And that's just those statistics are staggering. And
• 21:00
Speaker 11: so early detection, if you get screened early and it
• 21:03
Speaker 11: is diagnosed early, you have a ninety five chance of surviving.
• 21:08
Speaker 3: That's very important. And and the screenings are very important correct,
• 21:12
  Speaker 3: And I think it's a very from a psychological standpoint,
• 21:15
  Speaker 3: it's a very it's it's a very true statement that
• 21:20
Speaker 3: you said there is that women. And please don't light
• 21:23
Speaker 3: up my tax line here to say I'm being sexist
• 21:25
Speaker 3: or anything. I don't mean that. But women, by their
• 21:28
Speaker 3: own admission, as you just did, will say that they
• 21:30
Speaker 3: tend to be the caregivers. They tend to be the
• 21:32
Speaker 3: ones that take care of the kids, to take care
• 21:34
Speaker 3: of the families. Anybody that works in the world of
• 21:36
Speaker 3: business will tell you that. You know, I don't know.
• 21:39
Speaker 3: I've often joked about it. I think about equal pay
• 21:42
Speaker 3: and whatever. Women probably get more paid because most of
• 21:45
Speaker 3: offices I've been in, women do the majority of the
• 21:48
Speaker 3: work and they keep it running. They keep it running.
• 21:51
Speaker 3: I know we've got a great staff here, but they
• 21:55
Speaker 3: they put their own feelings in the back burner sometimes.
• 21:59
Speaker 11: Right, and then it takes you to do the dishes.
• 22:01
Speaker 11: Is about the time it takes for you to get
• 22:03
Speaker 11: a mamogram. So on Friday night, that being said, we
• 22:07
Speaker 11: have a pack of pickup party on Friday night, daved
• 22:10
Speaker 11: across the street from PHASEOS and we're gonna have what
• 22:13
Speaker 11: it's a where you come and pick up your race packet.
• 22:16
Speaker 3: What was the alliteration that you use there, pack a
• 22:18
Speaker 3: pickup party, pack a pickup party, Ryan, you got that
• 22:21
Speaker 3: pack of pick a party.
• 22:22
Speaker 6: Pack a pick Okay, and so you can come and
• 22:25
Speaker 6: register for the race.
• 22:26
Speaker 11: Uh, you can pick up your race packet for the
• 22:28
Speaker 11: Saturday morning and we will have the CAMC mobile mimmography
• 22:32
Speaker 11: bus there so you can bring your husband on the
• 22:35
Speaker 11: bus and introduce him to the mammogram machine that you
• 22:38
Speaker 11: see every year. And people can take tours of the
• 22:42
Speaker 11: bus and see that it's not intimidating, it's not scary,
• 22:44
Speaker 11: and they can also make appointments with CAMC that day
• 22:48
Speaker 11: to be screened later on next week or whenever it's
• 22:51
  Speaker 11: convenient for them.
• 22:52
Speaker 6: So well, they'll all be there on Friday night.
• 22:54
Speaker 3: How often should the screenings happen every year?
• 22:58
  Speaker 12: Every year?
• 22:58
  Speaker 13: Here?
• 22:58
Speaker 3: Is there a certain age that you say, like after
• 23:01
Speaker 3: age thirty you should get it once a year? Does
• 23:04
  Speaker 3: it really matter?
• 23:05
Speaker 11: The insurance companies say forty forty? Okay, But we had
• 23:08
Speaker 11: a girl two years ago from Point Pleasant who was nineteen.
• 23:11
Speaker 11: She was a freshman at Marshall and she was diagnosed
• 23:16
Speaker 11: with stage three breast cancer.
• 23:19
Speaker 3: So that's interesting because people automatically think it's an older person.
• 23:23
Speaker 3: Is an older older lady's's he's and men also get
• 23:26
Speaker 3: breast cancer. To do all right, but continue your story
• 23:29
Speaker 3: there about the nineteen year old.
• 23:31
Speaker 11: But I mean she wasn't know enough to you know,
• 23:33
Speaker 11: buy a beer, but she could get two kinds of
• 23:35
Speaker 11: breast cancer, and she had to get a mass ectomy,
• 23:37
Speaker 11: and she had to get a hysterectomy and all these
• 23:40
Speaker 11: things before she's a twenty one years old who right
• 23:42
Speaker 11: now she's doing fantastic. She's a great ambassador for us.
• 23:45
Speaker 11: She speaks, She goes to high school games, into college games,
• 23:48
Speaker 11: and tries to encourage young women to pay attention to
• 23:51
Speaker 11: the bodies and don't accept the stigmatism that you have
• 23:56
Speaker 11: to be forty years old to feel a lump or
• 23:58
  Speaker 11: something wrong.
• 24:00
Speaker 3: Talking to Donna de Hart again about the big race
• 24:03
Speaker 3: that is happening this weekend over we call it a race,
• 24:06
  Speaker 3: it's I mean, it's not really like a race like
• 24:09
  Speaker 3: the in the.
• 24:11
Speaker 11: Nice Definitely not all I do know and and and
• 24:15
Speaker 11: here's the great thing we learned. You know a lot
• 24:18
Speaker 11: of people have big intentions. You know, they start at
• 24:20
Speaker 11: the Capitol. They're going to walk down to the South
• 24:21
Speaker 11: Sidebridge and they're gonna march back. But then again the
• 24:24
Speaker 11: halfway down there, and like I don't know about going by.
• 24:26
Speaker 11: So we have Kannak County Deputy sheriffs and side by
• 24:30
Speaker 11: sides and they pick up pitch hikers. So anybody that
• 24:33
Speaker 11: says this was a really bad idea or a survivor
• 24:36
Speaker 11: that just doesn't feel like they can make it the
• 24:38
Speaker 11: rest of the way back. We have side by sides
• 24:41
Speaker 11: and really nice Kanak County sheriffs that will pick up
• 24:44
Speaker 11: pitchhikers and take you wherever you need to go, to
• 24:47
Speaker 11: your car, to the finish line, whatever you need. Those
• 24:50
Speaker 11: county sheriffs, the Kanak County Sheriffs are fantastic, and breast
• 24:55
Speaker 11: cancer has definitely impacted them.
• 24:57
Speaker 6: I really don't know if a police department does doesn't impact.
• 25:01
Speaker 3: Somebody's calling you there. That's all right. Look, I've been
• 25:05
Speaker 3: doing this for a lot of years, and I started
• 25:07
Speaker 3: the show yesterday by forgetting to turn my phone off.
• 25:09
Speaker 3: And I've been doing this for one hundred years.
• 25:11
Speaker 6: I could have sworn it. Turn it off.

• 26:04
Speaker 11: food and music and tailgate and all kinds of pune
• 26:07
Speaker 11: stuff and mammogram machine and then seven point thirty on
• 26:11
Speaker 11: Saturday morning we open up and you can get registered
• 26:15
Speaker 11: seven at seven thirty in the morning.
• 26:16
Speaker 6: The race starts at nine.
• 26:18
Speaker 11: The opening ceremony is at eight o'clock with our special MC,
• 26:23
Speaker 11: Miss Amanda Bearon. I think you've heard the name, I'm aware,
• 26:26
Speaker 11: uh huh, and so she'll be there and the survivor
• 26:29
Speaker 11: pictures at eight twenty. We want to make sure everybody
• 26:32
Speaker 11: gets in the survivor picture with Amanda, and then we
• 26:35
Speaker 11: got a little surprise for everybody, So get there early,
• 26:38
Speaker 11: let's have fun, and let's celebrate.
• 26:40
Speaker 3: These survivors had a texture that says, is there a
• 26:42
Speaker 3: cost to tour the mammogram boss? My mother lost her
• 26:45
Speaker 3: oldest sister to breast cancer sixty years ago and her
• 26:48
Speaker 3: youngest had a double missectomy because of it. I've been
• 26:50
Speaker 3: trying to get her to get a mammogram and she refuses.
• 26:53
Speaker 3: I think it's apprehension and fear.
• 26:55
  Speaker 6: Absolutely, that's exactly.
• 26:57
Speaker 3: And it is that too, what about the lost of
• 27:00
  Speaker 3: the mamma.
• 27:00
Speaker 6: There is no cost whatsoever.
• 27:02
Speaker 11: And here's the other thing most important, and I apologize.
• 27:05
Speaker 11: If you need a mammogram and you do not have
• 27:07
Speaker 11: insurance or your co pay or whatever, you haven't met
• 27:11
Speaker 11: your deductible, we pay for it. The Race for the
• 27:13
Speaker 11: Ribbon raises money for us to use all year long
• 27:16
Speaker 11: so that we can help women get their mammograms. Or
• 27:19
Speaker 11: if you're a breast cancer survivor going through treatments, we
• 27:22
Speaker 11: can help you get the co payments, with travel assistance,
• 27:26
Speaker 11: with all these things that you need. So and it
• 27:29
Speaker 11: is scary to go, but you need to go, and
• 27:35
Speaker 11: then you get it done and it's okay, or you've
• 27:37
  Speaker 11: caught it early.
• 27:39
Speaker 3: All right, don I appreciate you and have a good
• 27:43
Speaker 3: time on Saturday. Is this a rain or shine event?
• 27:45
Speaker 3: Because it looks like there's some scattered rain I think,
• 27:47
Speaker 3: But doesn't at this point look like it's gonna be
• 27:50
Speaker 3: a thing major if it happens at all.
• 27:52
Speaker 11: I agree, And you know what, We've gotten to the
• 27:54
Speaker 11: point where we'll say that if these women can go
• 27:57
Speaker 11: through multiple surgeries in chemotherapy, yays and guess what.
• 28:01
Speaker 3: You can get a little wet we can get with
• 28:02
Speaker 3: all right, all right, that ade heart. I appreciate you
• 28:05
Speaker 3: being here. The event is this Saturday here in Charleston.
• 28:08

Speaker 3: to mention this. Throughout the month of April, we've been

• 32:49
Speaker 3: I'm doing great. Which well Dona something didn't me. I mean,
• 32:51
Speaker 3: apparently she knows you because she said, she said, is
• 32:55
Speaker 3: man here? And I said, he's he's outsideway.
• 32:57
Speaker 12: You know what we've sponsored the now putting on the
• 33:00
Speaker 12: Selango law hat. We sponsored the uh we sponsored that
• 33:04
Speaker 12: race for I mean probably a decade back, even before
• 33:09
Speaker 12: it was the Breast Health Initiative, it was the Susan
• 33:12
Speaker 12: Coleman and we sponsored it almost every year. And then
• 33:15
Speaker 12: we we've sponsored their they do the comedy show. We've hospital, Yeah,
• 33:22
  Speaker 12: we've we've sponsored that one. But it's it's a great
• 33:24
Speaker 12: organization and something we've been very active with for probably
• 33:26
Speaker 12: fifteen or twenty years now.
• 33:27
Speaker 3: Yeah, and Amanda is going to be serving as the
• 33:30
Speaker 3: MC for the event on Saturday morning.
• 33:31
Speaker 12: I have a picture of Aman and I from probably
• 33:33
Speaker 12: ten years ago at that event. I used to run
• 33:36
Speaker 12: it all the time, back when I ran a lot
• 33:38
  Speaker 12: more than I do now. But it's always it's a
• 33:41
Speaker 12: fun race. I mean, it's always a great turnout and
• 33:44
Speaker 12: you know, if you don't, if you're not a runner,
• 33:46
Speaker 12: you can show up and walk.
• 33:47
Speaker 3: But it's a good cause. And I like the fact
• 33:49
Speaker 3: that the Kinawan County Sheriff's Department is a big part
• 33:53
Speaker 3: of it as well, and they're they're there to assist
• 33:54
Speaker 3: people that maybe need a little help.
• 33:56
Speaker 12: They do a lot, you know, Joe Crawford and his team,
• 33:59
Speaker 12: they do a lot the community, and that's great to
• 34:01
Speaker 12: them that they're going to show up and get people
• 34:04
Speaker 12: a ride back to the starting line if they can't.
• 34:06
Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, all right, So Capital Sports Center, Yes, sir,
• 34:10
Speaker 3: where is it? Yes, sir, you know what we're moving along.
• 34:13
Speaker 3: We've was that pretty direct, man.
• 34:15
Speaker 12: I like the direct question. So essentially what's happened is
• 34:20
Speaker 12: we had the initial design laid out and then prices
• 34:24
Speaker 12: are through the roof on construction, and so we moved
• 34:27
Speaker 12: the pool aspect of it to what we called a
• 34:30
Speaker 12: Phase B, meaning it was going to be a lot
• 34:33
Speaker 12: more expensive than we anticipated. You know, we initially thought
• 34:35
Speaker 12: the whole project was going to be about eighty million dollars.
• 34:38
Speaker 12: The pool itself was going to probably be forty million.
• 34:42
Speaker 12: After we realized what was going on with and I've
• 34:45
Speaker 12: mentioned this too, many times on the show that when
• 34:48
Speaker 12: the aar, when the ARP money started flooding in that
• 34:53
Speaker 12: prices on everything went up. When you get contractors basically
• 34:57
Speaker 12: get to do whatever they want and charge whatever they want,
• 35:00
Speaker 12: so it's it was very difficult. So you usually you
• 35:03
Speaker 12: look at like a commercial construction project at three hundred
• 35:06
Speaker 12: fifty to four hundred dollars in square foot. This was
• 35:09
Speaker 12: going to be substantially higher than that. So we moved
• 35:12
Speaker 12: the pool to Phase B, thinking we could then finish
• 35:15
Speaker 12: the project without the pool for probably sixty to seventy million.
• 35:19
Speaker 12: The basketball courts, the pickleball courts, volleyball, things that will
• 35:23
Speaker 12: bring people in and put people in hotels, put them
• 35:26
Speaker 12: in restaurants. So we had the funding worked out where
• 35:31
Speaker 12: we the city had put in five million dollars city
• 35:33
Speaker 12: in the county to each put in five million dollars.
• 35:35
Speaker 12: We had we were looking at fifty million dollars in
• 35:38
Speaker 12: bonds and then ten million in a congressionally directed spending,
• 35:46
Speaker 12: which is fancy word for earmark, and the city had
• 35:49
Speaker 12: received seven million dollars of it, which would only leave
• 35:52
Speaker 12: a three million dollar piece, And quite frankly, on a
• 35:54
Speaker 12: project like that, we didn't think it would be very
• 35:57
Speaker 12: difficult to raise three million dollars of corporate money. But
• 36:00
Speaker 12: because you've got naming rights for the facility, you've got
• 36:02
Speaker 12: naming rights for every court, you've got score boards, you know,
• 36:05
Speaker 12: similar to what we did at the Shawnee Sports Complex.
• 36:07
Speaker 12: You know, every score board has a corporate name on
• 36:10
  Speaker 12: that too.
• 36:11
Speaker 6: You know, you have to.
• 36:12
Speaker 3: And that's just part of it.
• 36:13
Speaker 12: You know, Moses Moses came in and they gave us
• 36:17
Speaker 12: money to name the building the Moses Building at Shawnee.
• 36:21
Speaker 12: The end COOVA formerly Brick Street, gave us one point
• 36:24
Speaker 12: five million dollars for naming rights on the facility at Shawnee.
• 36:27
  Speaker 12: And I think that's I think it was like a
• 36:29
Speaker 12: it's either a ten or fifteen year deal at Shawnee,
• 36:31
Speaker 12: I can't remember. But so that's kind of what we
• 36:33
Speaker 12: were looking at doing. And then and then the city
• 36:37
Speaker 12: had received its ear market for seven million dollars. Well,
• 36:40
Speaker 12: the budget didn't pass and so the ear mark didn't
• 36:43
Speaker 12: go through the budget in DC congressional budget. Yeah, so
• 36:46
Speaker 12: you know, when there was the after the November election,
• 36:49
Speaker 12: and we were watching it very carefully because we knew
• 36:52
Speaker 12: that it was going to come in tight. We still
• 36:53
Speaker 12: thought the budget would pass and that that earmark would
• 36:56
Speaker 12: be in the budget, and it didn't pass. So now
• 37:00
Speaker 12: we're back to looking to figure out how we're going
• 37:04
Speaker 12: to get that other seven million dollars. So I think
• 37:06
Speaker 12: the city's submitting another request for congressionally directed spending, so
• 37:12
Speaker 12: has the county, and hopefully that will come through. But
• 37:14
Speaker 12: that kind of set us back a little bit.
• 37:15
  Speaker 3: And so.
• 37:17
Speaker 12: You don't want to start a project with a seven
• 37:20
Speaker 12: million dollar gap. I mean, that's just not smart business.
• 37:23
  Speaker 12: I wouldn't do it in my business. I won't do
• 37:24
Speaker 12: it for the county. So we had to wait and
• 37:27
Speaker 12: make sure that that funding is in place. We've already
• 37:29
Speaker 12: worked out we've talked to our bond council about the bonds,
• 37:33
Speaker 12: we've dedicated revenue stream, all these things that could easily
• 37:37
Speaker 12: be presented of the County Commission and to City council.
• 37:40
Speaker 12: But with that seven million dollar gap, we're on pause.
• 37:44
Speaker 3: We're on pause. So what you're saying has been is
• 37:46
Speaker 3: that the project is on pause. Right now.
• 37:48
Speaker 12: The project's on pause, but we're you know, we're and
• 37:51
Speaker 12: I've been using the phrase cautiously optimistic. I hope that
• 37:54
Speaker 12: we can still get that seven million dollars in funding.
• 37:58
Speaker 12: If we don't, then we're going to have to regroup.
• 38:00
Speaker 12: You either scale down the project, which I would hate
• 38:02
Speaker 12: to do, or we've got to look for other sources
• 38:05
Speaker 12: of revenue. But that's seven million dollars was a critical
• 38:07
Speaker 12: piece of the funding and the Capital Sports Complex.
• 38:11
Speaker 3: Kanawha County Commission President of Ben Silango of at A
• 38:13

Speaker 3: your journey towards better health today. So cautiously optimistic, that's
• 38:29
Speaker 3: the word that. What's our time frame here?
• 38:32
Speaker 12: Well, we're going to see. So hopefully if we can
• 38:34
Speaker 12: get another congressionally directed at spending either to the county
• 38:37
Speaker 12: or the city or frankly both, then we'll be back
• 38:41
Speaker 12: on track and then we can start the very detailed
• 38:44
Speaker 12: drawing ZMM, which does a wonderful job. They would do
• 38:47
Speaker 12: the very detailed drawings that we need for their construction.
• 38:51
Speaker 12: Those drawings, I would imagine are going to take eight
• 38:54
Speaker 12: to twelve months because that's kind of lays everything out,
• 38:58
Speaker 12: the blueprints, if you will, that kind of spells it
• 39:01
Speaker 12: all out, and then you know, as soon as those
• 39:04
Speaker 12: drang as you know, and we can start construction. I
• 39:06
Speaker 12: mean we have now a blank slate. I mean, we
• 39:09
Speaker 12: bought the Macy's building, tore it down, you know, that's
• 39:11
Speaker 12: that's still there, so you know, it's it's one of
• 39:14
Speaker 12: those things that I'm hoping that we'll be able to
• 39:16
Speaker 12: start soon if we can get that money, and if not,
• 39:19
Speaker 12: we're just gonna have to wait. And if we don't
• 39:21
Speaker 12: get at this budget, then we're going to apply next budget.
• 39:24
Speaker 12: I mean, it's one of the it's not going to
• 39:25
Speaker 12: go away. We're just going to keep trying to work
• 39:27
Speaker 12: and try to get that funny.
• 39:28
Speaker 3: I mean it's been when was this first talk. I
• 39:32
Speaker 3: was doing doing little research this morning. Look at it
• 39:35
Speaker 3: was a twenty twenty concept was announced in August of
• 39:37
Speaker 3: twenty two, if I recall, and then we made a
• 39:42
Speaker 3: lot of progress. You know, keep in mind how many
• 39:45
Speaker 3: different and I'll put my lawyer hat back on for
• 39:48
Speaker 3: a second. This was a very legally complex project because
• 39:54
Speaker 3: you've got multiple people that own the land, and you've
• 39:58
Speaker 3: got people that own the building, and and you've got
• 40:00
Speaker 3: the garages which are owned by different entities, and then
• 40:04
Speaker 3: there's legal proceedings between the mall owner and and the
• 40:08
Speaker 3: garages and and all this peripheral stuff going on, but
• 40:14
Speaker 3: it all effected the Capital Sports Center. We've got a
• 40:17
Speaker 3: lot of that has been resolved now, and that took
• 40:21
Speaker 3: a lot of effort and a lot of time to
• 40:23
Speaker 3: kind of fix that all, and now we're just left with,
• 40:28
Speaker 3: you know, a blank slate that we need to build
• 40:30
Speaker 3: on and hopefully we'll be able to get that seven
• 40:32
Speaker 3: million dollars and move forward. Now, the other problem is
• 40:36
Speaker 3: you really have to watch this. The tariffs have increased
• 40:40
Speaker 3: the cost of steel, both foreign and domestic, and so
• 40:43
Speaker 3: we've got to make sure that we can still bring
• 40:45
Speaker 3: it in within the budget that we had proposed with
• 40:50
Speaker 3: with the tariffs and that you know that comes and goes.
• 40:52
  Speaker 3: That's not a I.
• 40:53
Speaker 12: Think that's more of a short term issue. And so
• 40:56
Speaker 12: by the time that construction drawings are done and we've
• 40:58
Speaker 12: truly put it out the bid, I still think we
• 41:01
Speaker 12: can come in within budget. But that's also something that
• 41:03
Speaker 12: we're watching. You know, if you get if the price
• 41:06
Speaker 12: of steel goes up five to ten percent, which I
• 41:07
Speaker 12: think is kind of where it is right now. That's
• 41:10
Speaker 12: a lot of money on a seventy million dollars project.
• 41:12
Speaker 12: Sure it's a lot of steel.
• 41:14
Speaker 3: It is. It is a lot of steel. But Dave
• 41:17

• 41:33
Speaker 3: read some text us here? All right, Texas, why doesn't
• 41:35
Speaker 3: the county develop the Coonskin Park pool area for the
• 41:38
Speaker 3: swimming pool scenario rather than incorporate it into the town
• 41:41
  Speaker 3: center property.
• 41:41
Speaker 12: You know, we'd looked at that Coonskin project we had
• 41:44
Speaker 12: This has probably been about six or seven years ago.
• 41:48
Speaker 12: We looked at doming the putting a big dome over
• 41:53
Speaker 12: the Coonskin Pool. The problem was that and then you
• 41:57
Speaker 12: can make it a year round. The problem is then
• 41:59
Speaker 12: you have a dome over it in the summer, and
• 42:02
Speaker 12: so it's not an indoor it's not an indoor pool.
• 42:04
Speaker 12: It would just be an outdoor pool with a dome
• 42:06
Speaker 12: on it. And we looked at that. Then it wasn't
• 42:08
Speaker 12: Olympic size, it's not fifty meter, it didn't have enough lanes,
• 42:12
Speaker 12: and so then you know, the question would be do
• 42:15
Speaker 12: you want to do it just partially right or do
• 42:17
Speaker 12: you want to come back and build something that is right.
• 42:20
Speaker 12: And that's kind of why we leaned against it. And
• 42:22
Speaker 12: I know the Parks Board looked at that. Gosh, I
• 42:26
Speaker 12: think this is back when Hoppy Shores was on on
• 42:29
Speaker 12: the commission. They looked at that, and Commissioner Carper and
• 42:34
Speaker 12: I looked at that and decided not to dome the
• 42:36
Speaker 12: pool because we thought that it would be just a
• 42:41
Speaker 12: partial fix. It wouldn't really accomplish what we needed to
• 42:43
Speaker 12: accomplish well. And I think the whole idea behind this too.
• 42:45
Speaker 3: With all due respect to Coonskin and Coonskin and Shanny
• 42:48
Speaker 3: and all these things are their wonderful facilities. However, it
• 42:51
Speaker 3: was from day one designed to be downtown, and that
• 42:54
Speaker 3: was and to be able to draw from the all
• 42:56
Speaker 3: the activities that are going on at the Kyloseum of
• 42:58
Speaker 3: Convention Center. I mean any given can. It's not just
• 43:02
Speaker 3: concerts and tractor pulls and whatever. There's a lot of
• 43:04
Speaker 3: things going on that don't get a lot of airtime
• 43:06
Speaker 3: because it's there's always cheerleading competitions or band competitions and stuff,
• 43:10
Speaker 3: and there's a lot of and you know, in the
• 43:11
Speaker 3: sports travel business will say this and we'll go to break.
• 43:14
Speaker 3: There's a lot of hurry up and wait, you know,
• 43:16
Speaker 3: and when people are awaiting, you know, they wrap up
• 43:19
Speaker 3: a competition at eleven in the morning and they don't
• 43:21
Speaker 3: they don't play or compete or whatever again till four
• 43:23
Speaker 3: in the afternoon or sometimes the next day. They got
• 43:25
Speaker 3: to do something. They're not going to drive back to Wheeling,
• 43:28
Speaker 3: you know, spend the money.
• 43:29
Speaker 12: You know, we've worked with actually some of the rafting
• 43:33
Speaker 12: companies down at the Golly where if we have soccer
• 43:36
Speaker 12: teams that come in and they only play one game,
• 43:38
Speaker 12: we can we can actually bust them down to the
• 43:39
Speaker 12: Golly and they can go rafting for the app.
• 43:42
Speaker 3: That's good stuff right there.
• 43:42
  Speaker 12: You know, there's a lot, there's a lot going on
• 43:45
Speaker 12: that that we've been able to accomplish, uh with with
• 43:48
Speaker 12: sports tourism. And you know, at the s Hinese Sports complex. This,
• 43:53
Speaker 12: if we can accomplish it will actually be bigger than that.

Speaker 3: Capitol Sports Complex and we have been Selango KANANKANNTY Commission
• 46:18
Speaker 3: president here, Tex says, what about a Facebook page specifically
• 46:21
Speaker 3: for the sports complex. It has the floor plan blueprints
• 46:24
Speaker 3: and let the public put their suggestions in it on
• 46:27
Speaker 3: the page and maybe where, maybe, maybe maybe where it
• 46:31
Speaker 3: should be in the layout. You'd have all the info
• 46:33
Speaker 3: one convenient spot for everyone. Not a bad idea, but
• 46:35
Speaker 3: we're not there yet.
• 46:37
Speaker 12: Well the problem is then you know we're gonna have
• 46:39
Speaker 12: people from Albuquerque, New Mexico commenting. I mean, I want
• 46:43
Speaker 12: it to be locals, and that's why we did it.
• 46:45
Speaker 12: We did a bunch of meetings. We had people come in,
• 46:48
Speaker 12: you know, early on, we did I think it was
• 46:51
Speaker 12: five or six different community meetings and listen to different
• 46:55
Speaker 12: groups of people, different folks. We had all kinds of
• 46:58
Speaker 12: coaches come in, basketball, volleyball, everybody came in and we
• 47:03
Speaker 12: took it from there. You're also welcome to email us
• 47:06
Speaker 12: anytime you want. I mean, the plans have kind of
• 47:08
Speaker 12: been out on Facebook and I think even on YouTube
• 47:11
Speaker 12: for about three two and a half to three.
• 47:13
Speaker 3: But the plans vary because I mean, you could put
• 47:16
Speaker 3: something out there today and it's going to change if
• 47:19
Speaker 3: this budget, you know, if we get the money, and
• 47:22
Speaker 3: then if it doesn't, that's going to change.
• 47:25
Speaker 12: So well, when we were kind of scaling it back
• 47:27
Speaker 12: after we moved the pool to Phase B, when we
• 47:30
Speaker 12: were scaling back the basketball volleyball, part of it was
• 47:34
Speaker 12: it was hard to cut anything else out and for
• 47:37
Speaker 12: it to still be an effective economic driver in the community.
• 47:41
Speaker 12: So you're always welcome to email the commission or email
• 47:44
Speaker 12: the city with your suggestions about what should be in there.
• 47:47
Speaker 12: I promise you we've read every single one. But we
• 47:49
Speaker 12: did that early on and did our community meetings and
• 47:53
Speaker 12: got a lot of input from the community, positive and negative.
• 47:56
Speaker 3: Okay negative. Texa says Charleston is a to pay forty
• 48:00
Speaker 3: million dollars for just to pool. Okay, thanks. Tex says
• 48:08
Speaker 3: this whole sports complex was an unrealistic pipe dream from
• 48:11
Speaker 3: the get go. More big promises from local leaders never
• 48:14
Speaker 3: came to fruition. I think it's a very unfair statement.
• 48:16
Speaker 12: Well, you know what, I understand that's some perception. There's
• 48:19
Speaker 12: probably a little bit of politics involved in that perception,
• 48:22
Speaker 12: but the truth is we have we're still moving forward
• 48:26
Speaker 12: the project. Hopefully it will come to fruition. I heard
• 48:28
Speaker 12: the same kind of negative stuff when we taught when
• 48:31
Speaker 12: we did the Shawnee Sports Complex. I mean we were getting,
• 48:34
Speaker 12: you know, people saying that it was not going to happen,
• 48:36
Speaker 12: there was no way we could get it done within
• 48:38
Speaker 12: a year, and they were right. I got it done
• 48:40
Speaker 12: in eleven months. So it's the same stuff.
• 48:43
Speaker 3: And drive by there on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon
• 48:46
Speaker 3: right now and tell them that nobody's going to go there.
• 48:48
Speaker 12: Yeah, it's packed every It's packed every weekend. And you know,
• 48:51
Speaker 12: on Sundays we just have basically this community soccer leagues
• 48:55
Speaker 12: that are there, and we probably have five to eight
• 48:57
Speaker 12: thousand people there every Sunday.
• 48:59
Speaker 3: Five to eight thousand people on a Sunday.
• 49:02
Speaker 12: Yeah, you can't find a parking spot. In fact, we're
• 49:04
Speaker 12: looking to actually add parking on both the baseball side
• 49:07
Speaker 12: and the soccer football side. But yeah, I mean, I
• 49:09
Speaker 12: mean I get those comments, and it's I think to
• 49:13
Speaker 12: say that it's, uh, it was an unrealistic thing is
• 49:18
Speaker 12: not true. And if you look how much progress we
• 49:20
Speaker 12: made by the way that sports Board still owns that land.
• 49:24
Speaker 12: I mean, they bought the Macy's building. And I wish
• 49:27
Speaker 12: that person that just texted it and would have been
• 49:29
Speaker 12: involved in some of those early meetings where we were
• 49:31
Speaker 12: trying to get get it all together, you know, like
• 49:34
Speaker 12: meeting with them all owners, and meeting with Kira, and
• 49:37
Speaker 12: meeting with the bond holders, which were thorn in my
• 49:40
Speaker 12: side from the beginning. I wish they'd have been a
• 49:42
Speaker 12: little fly on the wall to hear some of that,
• 49:44
Speaker 12: and I think that would have changed their view.
• 49:46
Speaker 3: Then you and I've talked about this before. People do
• 49:49
Speaker 3: not realize what a big business sports tourism is. Well
• 49:52
Speaker 3: it's I mean, and I got the same thing when
• 49:55
Speaker 3: I've on off on a little rant not long ago,
• 49:57
Speaker 3: people saying about hotels. We don't need more hotel Why
• 49:59
Speaker 3: do we need more hotels in Charleston.
• 50:01
Speaker 12: Well, because anytime we have an event at Shawnee, we
• 50:05
Speaker 12: sell out every hotel within a two hour.
• 50:07
  Speaker 3: Radius of Charleston.
• 50:08
Speaker 12: Yeah, exactly, And we can and if you do have Facebook,
• 50:11
Speaker 12: you can see that yourself. Find find the Capitol, the
• 50:15
Speaker 12: WFC Capitol Cup, any of these big tournaments, the US
• 50:19
Speaker 12: Soccer tournaments that we have in and try to book
• 50:22
Speaker 12: a hotel within a two hour radius of Charleston, West Virginia.
• 50:25
Speaker 12: I challenge you to do that.
• 50:26
Speaker 3: I had Chris Tatum on the Afternoon Show, the mayor
• 50:29
Speaker 3: of Barbersville, and he said, and it's the same with
• 50:32
Speaker 3: Barbersville with their sports complex, which you guys work a
• 50:34
Speaker 3: lot with with Shawnee. I mean, for an event at
• 50:38
Speaker 3: Shawnee or Barbersville, be lucky to get a hotel in Galipolice,
• 50:41
Speaker 3: Ohio or the Chief Logan Conference Center.
• 50:43
Speaker 12: That's right, that's right. And we were, you know, one
• 50:46
Speaker 12: of the last USU Soccer ones that we did at Shawnee,
• 50:48
Speaker 12: we were selling hotels in flat woods, flat woods, flatwoods.
• 50:52
Speaker 12: So and you don't want that when people come to
• 50:55
Speaker 12: West Virginia. You don't want them to have to drive
• 50:57
Speaker 12: an hour and a half, no to get to the game.
• 50:59
Speaker 12: You want them to be able to stay closer. Now,
• 51:01
Speaker 12: the problem is we need more of those massive tournaments.
• 51:06
Speaker 12: We just don't have the capacity for them. We really don't,
• 51:09
Speaker 12: all right. But you know, and by the way, Barbersville
• 51:11
Speaker 12: has done a great job with their field. We work
• 51:13
Speaker 12: together all the time. When they turf some of their fields,
• 51:15
Speaker 12: I think they turf three. We still do not have
• 51:17
Speaker 12: enough turf soccer fields in the area. I'm going to
• 51:20
Speaker 12: end with this one. So Lango should be our governor.
• 51:22
Speaker 12: He will be in four years. You can bet your
• 51:24
  Speaker 12: life on that.
• 51:25
Speaker 3: Well, I appreciate that.
• 51:26
  Speaker 6: I don't know, so.
• 51:29
Speaker 3: I'm enjoying my time on the commission. All right, all right,
• 51:31
Speaker 3: that's a good way to leave it. TJ. Meadows is
• 51:33
Speaker 3: here to give us a little preview of talk line.
• 51:35
Speaker 3: Let's just tear it down and leave a bunch of
• 51:37
Speaker 3: rocks over there. That's what we want. Let's just have exacturate, one.
• 51:39
Speaker 12: Piece of vacant property. Let you know, just do that,
• 51:41
Speaker 12: you know, for endertain of the kidneys. Just go in
• 51:42
Speaker 12: there and throw rocks at each other. That's a sport.
• 51:46
Speaker 3: That's the way we did it.
• 51:48
  Speaker 17: I gre up.
• 51:48
Speaker 3: Yeah, but the scars to prove it, we had the creek,
• 51:51
Speaker 3: you know. So all right, what do you got on
• 51:54
Speaker 3: the show today? Buddy?
• 51:55
Speaker 13: Coming up today on the show, Chris Miller, former Canada
• 51:58
Speaker 13: for governor, joins us.
• 51:59
Speaker 3: We'll talk about tariffs on the eye.
• 52:00
Speaker 13: Ido industry, liberty, veteran Capito Capito political commentator. She's got
• 52:04
Speaker 13: a piece at the Hill dot Com talking about Cole.
• 52:06
Speaker 13: She joins us Mike Nolton on the Morgantown Camping Band,
• 52:09
Speaker 13: Jarrett Halprin from Fox News Radio on Washington on Trump,
• 52:12
Speaker 13: that and so much much more.
• 52:14
Speaker 3: All right, Commissioner Commissioned President Vnslango, appreciate you being her master.
• 52:18
Speaker 3: I thinks a lot. Meadows and Wilson coming up at
• 52:20
Speaker 3: talk about ten oh six. Amanda and I will be
• 52:22
Speaker 3: on with Metro News Midday powered by Selango Law coming
• 52:25
Speaker 3: up just after ten after twelve. Their show's ten min's twelve.
• 52:29
Speaker 3: All right, get that right, Dave, no notes in front
• 52:31
Speaker 3: of me, see you the huntil they have fun. I
