- 1:57Speaker 3: Also coming up here in a day or so, the
- 2:01Speaker 3: West Side Neighborhood Association is having and just in time
- 2:06Speaker 3: for Father's Day, they're doing a this it's a competition.
- 2:10Speaker 3: It's a competition of folks doing dad jokes, and our
- 2:14Speaker 3: own Rob Reel from Assister Station ninety six to one
- 2:17Speaker 3: KWS is going to be the MC of that. I
- 2:21Speaker 3: love a good dad joke, I do, and so they

- 2:27Speaker 3: So Rob is going to join us in studio along

- 2:42Speaker 3: zero eight. Let's welcome into the show now though our
- 2:44Speaker 3: good friend from Bridge Valley, doctor Casey Sachs, Welcome to
- 2:47Speaker 3: the show.
- 2:48Speaker 6: Good morning, Dave. So great to be here with you today.
- 2:51Speaker 3: I gotta just throw this out here. So can we
- 2:54Speaker 3: now say doctor Sachs goes to Washington? Is that right?
- 2:57Speaker 6: I do about two weeks a month. I have the
- 2:59Speaker 6: privilege of working on a couple of executive orders.
- 3:02Speaker 3: So I mean, are you at liberty to discuss those?
- 3:04Speaker 3: I mean, how you got this gig?
- 3:07Speaker 7: Sure?
- 3:08Speaker 6: So I had previously worked at the United States Department
- 3:10Speaker 6: of Education, and after President Trump signed the Executive Order
- 3:14Speaker 6: about Apprenticeships and the Executive Order about Artificial Intelligence, some
- 3:18Speaker 6: folks in Washington called and said, we think that you
- 3:21Speaker 6: would be the perfect person to lead these So I am.
- 3:25Speaker 6: It's just a real short term thing. It's through December,
- 3:27Speaker 6: and then we should have a plan in place, and
- 3:29Speaker 6: then I can hand the plan off to folks who
- 3:31Speaker 6: work their full time.
- 3:32Speaker 3: And it's a good resentation, you know, good representation of
- 3:34Speaker 3: West Virginia and Bridge Valley. For you to be there,
- 3:36Speaker 3: I would think.
- 3:37Speaker 6: It's really great both for the state and certainly for
- 3:40Speaker 6: the college. Already, it's helped me really think about some
- 3:44Speaker 6: of our federal grants and how we're making investments and
- 3:46Speaker 6: students in the community, and I think it'll really set
- 3:49Speaker 6: us up for some long term success.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Well, we wish, certainly. I wish you the best of
- 3:53Speaker 3: luck with that. What exactly are you going to be doing?
- 3:55Speaker 3: Can you kind of break it down then we'll move
- 3:56Speaker 3: on talk about things currently at Bridge Valley?
- 3:58Speaker 8: You bet. So.
- 3:59Speaker 6: Executive orders lay out the President asks for secretaries of
- 4:03Speaker 6: different agencies to develop plans around certain things so around
- 4:08Speaker 6: artificial intelligence, for example, there's ninety day deadlines, there's one
- 4:12Speaker 6: hundred and twenty day deadlines, and it's helping the agencies
- 4:15Speaker 6: hit those deadlines because they're inner agency collaborations. And so
- 4:19Speaker 6: when you have the Department of Commerce and Labor and
- 4:22Speaker 6: Energy and Education all in one room, you need a
- 4:25Speaker 6: unified document and there's not one clear person to write that.
- 4:28Speaker 6: And so for these projects, I'm one person.
- 4:32Speaker 3: All right, Well, they couldn't have picked a better one
- 4:34Speaker 3: person to do the job. In my opinione, A few
- 4:37Speaker 3: and I think you'll represent Bridge Valley and West Virginia
- 4:40Speaker 3: very very well. All right, So you folks had to
- 4:42Speaker 3: open a house the other night, I understand. How'd that go?
- 4:45Speaker 2: Oh?
- 4:45Speaker 5: We did.
- 4:45Speaker 6: There's so much fun. It's just really great to get
- 4:48Speaker 6: potential students in and often their parents and families to
- 4:52Speaker 6: hear about what we offer here at the college. So
- 4:54Speaker 6: the other night it was actually an open house for
- 4:57Speaker 6: the Win Academy, which is the early college high school
- 4:59Speaker 6: that we have on campus, and had a really great
- 5:02Speaker 6: turnout of families to talk about if this might be
- 5:05Speaker 6: a good fit for their kids. And often it's a
- 5:07Speaker 6: good fit for kids who sort of know the area
- 5:10Speaker 6: that they want to go into. They sort of know
- 5:12Speaker 6: their path, and we have really strong paths in both
- 5:15Speaker 6: healthcare and engineering, and so a lot of times that's
- 5:19Speaker 6: who comes.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Yeah, indeed, and that Win Academy. I mean again, we
- 5:23Speaker 3: are on here with me a couple times a month.
- 5:25Speaker 3: But for people that don't know, explain how the Wind
- 5:27Speaker 3: Academy works.
- 5:28Speaker 6: So it's an early college high school, which means that
- 5:31Speaker 6: you do both high school classes and college classes concurrently.
- 5:35Speaker 6: It's the instead of saying take twelfth grade English, we
- 5:39Speaker 6: put you in a college level English class, for example,
- 5:42Speaker 6: and then it counts as your twelfth grade English. And
- 5:45Speaker 6: the real beauty of that is that for students who
- 5:48Speaker 6: are on sort of on a fast track at that point,
- 5:51Speaker 6: we're trying really hard to help more and more students
- 5:53Speaker 6: graduate from high school with their associate's degree so that
- 5:56Speaker 6: if they want to immediately and they're the labor market,
- 5:59Speaker 6: they can have a credential to employer's value. And if
- 6:02Speaker 6: what they want to do is take that and transfer
- 6:04Speaker 6: to Marshall University, they can do that too.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Talk to you with doctor Casey Sachs Abridge Value the
- 6:09Speaker 3: Dave Valence Show in five eighty five is brought to
- 6:11Speaker 3: you in part by Morgan and Morgan, with more than
- 6:13Speaker 3: twenty billion dollars recovered. They believe that when you're injured,
- 6:15Speaker 3: you deserve more. Morgan and Morgan America's largest injury law firm.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Now you have something called a simulation room.
- 6:22Speaker 6: Now right, Oh, Dave, You've got to come see that.
- 6:24Speaker 6: It's so cool. So the simulation room. In the health sciences,
- 6:30Speaker 6: students are allowed to do up to half of their
- 6:33Speaker 6: clinical experiences in a simulated setting. But that only really
- 6:38Speaker 6: works as authentic learning if we can make the simulation
- 6:41Speaker 6: very authentic. And so one of the things that we
- 6:45Speaker 6: have a nurse who had been a thirty year er veteran.
- 6:48Speaker 6: She's wonderful, Betty Craze. So when Betty's designing simulations for
- 6:52Speaker 6: our students, she does really elaborate activities an entire week
- 6:58Speaker 6: of burn victims or something like that. But what she
- 7:01Speaker 6: said is that the thing that she hasn't been able
- 7:03Speaker 6: to simulate are things like the smell. And so we
- 7:08Speaker 6: have a whole room now where we can design thousands
- 7:11Speaker 6: of different simulations and even pipe in things like smells.
- 7:15Speaker 6: So as gross as this is, we have a blood
- 7:17Speaker 6: smell and a vomit smell, and those are things that
- 7:21Speaker 6: often if you're a first time nurse and you walk
- 7:23Speaker 6: into a room and there's been a burn victim, that
- 7:26Speaker 6: burning flesh smell is something that people really struggle with,
- 7:29Speaker 6: and now we can simulate it for them so that
- 7:31Speaker 6: the first time they're with a real patient in that setting,
- 7:34Speaker 6: it's less of a jarring experience.
- 7:36Speaker 3: I mean, I guess I understand that, doctor Sachs, because
- 7:38Speaker 3: I've known stories of people that were all about helping people.
- 7:42Speaker 3: They wanted to be a nurse, they wanted to be
- 7:43Speaker 3: an EMT or something like that, but then when they
- 7:46Speaker 3: first got there and they sensed, you know, the blood
- 7:50Speaker 3: and they sense the smell of things like that, I
- 7:52Speaker 3: know I would have a very very difficult time with that.
- 7:54Speaker 3: And it's not you know, it's not to try I
- 7:56Speaker 3: would think, it's not to try to drive them away,
- 7:59Speaker 3: but it's also so an opportunity for then to go, well,
- 8:01Speaker 3: maybe I can't handle this, or I've got to get
- 8:03Speaker 3: used to this a little bit more and work on
- 8:06Speaker 3: this ability so I'm in.
- 8:09Speaker 6: It just helps prepare people, right, yeah, exactly. Percent don't
- 8:12Speaker 6: want to turn them away. What we want is for
- 8:14Speaker 6: them to go into the workforce and feel like, yes,
- 8:17Speaker 6: I know what to expect and I'm ready to deal
- 8:19Speaker 6: with it.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Right, And that's very important. That's kind of what I
- 8:21Speaker 3: was getting at there. You got some upcoming camps going
- 8:23Speaker 3: on there.
- 8:24Speaker 6: Oh gosh, they're so fun. If your kids don't already
- 8:27Speaker 6: have something to do. From July twenty first to July
- 8:30Speaker 6: twenty fifth, we have a STEM camp. It's for fifth
- 8:34Speaker 6: graders through eighth graders. It's really fun. I sent my
- 8:36Speaker 6: goddaughter last summer. I brought her out from New Jersey
- 8:39Speaker 6: and it's like you're going to camp, and she loved it.
- 8:42Speaker 6: They work with robots, they do different kinds of just
- 8:46Speaker 6: they just play all week. It's really great, and our
- 8:49Speaker 6: faculty members who put it on are especially enthusiastic.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Well, and they play, but they're also learning something as well,
- 8:55Speaker 3: so that's right.
- 8:56Speaker 6: I mean. The whole point is that it's built around
- 8:58Speaker 6: a science heavy curriculm, so that students walk away and
- 9:01Speaker 6: sort of know more about robotics and know more about
- 9:04Speaker 6: manufacturing and might even have a sense that this is
- 9:07Speaker 6: something they want to do in their careers. So we're
- 9:09Speaker 6: thinking about early exposure and we're trying to be intentional,
- 9:12Speaker 6: but we also want to make sure that it's fun
- 9:14Speaker 6: because it is for kids.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Yeah, indeed, doctor Casey Sacks. Before we let you go,
- 9:18Speaker 3: we can talk about this as we get a little
- 9:19Speaker 3: bit closer, but you guys are going to be hosting
- 9:21Speaker 3: Live on the Levee at some point.
- 9:23Speaker 9: We are.
- 9:24Speaker 6: July eighteenth is our night. It's always so much fun.
- 9:27Speaker 6: We've been doing it for years. We always try and
- 9:29Speaker 6: host one of the Live on the Levee nights, and
- 9:31Speaker 6: I'll certainly keep talking about it, but please come out
- 9:33Speaker 6: for Bridge Valley Night, Live on the Levee July eighteenth.
- 9:36Speaker 3: It's going to be a great night, it always is.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Live on the Levee is actually back because you know,
- 9:40Speaker 3: the kind of a different schedule this year. Lives would
- 9:42Speaker 3: be back tomorrow, but you guys will be there on

- 15:32Speaker 7: in that band are going to recognize from other bands
- 15:34Speaker 7: that you've seen once or twice.
- 15:35Speaker 13: And then Saturday, Saturday Saturday, we have the z Top
- 15:39Speaker 13: Notch it's a tribute band is easy Top, and the
- 15:42Speaker 13: Groove Brothers.
- 15:43Speaker 7: Yeah, which is an Almond Brothers tribute band. Yes, we're
- 15:45Speaker 7: trying to this year try to sort of take you
- 15:47Speaker 7: on a musical journey through the decades if you will.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Of course I love rock. Yeah, Adam give us the
- 15:53Speaker 3: background on this whole thing about how it got started.
- 15:56Speaker 7: So the Yackfest is really all centered around the Torticle,
- 15:59Speaker 7: which is is a great event that the Coal River
- 16:02Speaker 7: Group puts on every year. I don't know how many
- 16:04Speaker 7: years they've been doing it, but for a long long time.
- 16:06Speaker 7: I think nineteen now, that's what I was gonna say.
- 16:08Speaker 7: I think it's getting close to twenty. But the Tour
- 16:11Speaker 7: de Cole is the largest flatwater kayaking event in the
- 16:15Speaker 7: nation now and we're gonna have They are gonna have
- 16:17Speaker 7: probably close to two thousand kayaks on the river on Saturday,
- 16:20Speaker 7: and it's a great event for Saint Albans. All these
- 16:22Speaker 7: people from all over the country coming into town, and
- 16:24Speaker 7: we figured, uh, we should throw a party for them
- 16:27Speaker 7: while they're there.
- 16:27Speaker 4: You didn't make it even better.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Just a small little gathering. It is a small little
- 16:31Speaker 3: of a couple thousand of yeah, of your best friends,
- 16:33Speaker 3: and I think that is amazing. And hands off to
- 16:35Speaker 3: Bill and those folks that do the tour to Cole
- 16:38Speaker 3: and all the others that are involved in it as well,
- 16:41Speaker 3: because every year it just gets bigger. I know it's
- 16:44Speaker 3: a cliche to say bigger and better, but I mean
- 16:45Speaker 3: we're talking about bringing two thousand people. Some are in
- 16:48Speaker 3: this area, but Adam, you know you're a Saint Alban's guy,
- 16:50Speaker 3: a lot of them aren't from this area. They're not
- 16:52Speaker 3: even from this state. Yeah, absolutely not.
- 16:54Speaker 7: I forget what the number was exactly, but I want
- 16:57Speaker 7: to say it was like fifteen to twenty different states.
- 16:59Speaker 4: We're represented. Last year.
- 17:00Speaker 7: There's people coming from all over the country. They've had
- 17:02Speaker 7: people come from outside of this country to do the.
- 17:04Speaker 13: Tour around the world and nationwide. That's a convergence of
- 17:07Speaker 13: kayakers and people ready to party Friday and Saturday night.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Shut up, steep So, but I will say this, I
- 17:15Speaker 3: mean the growth of this thing over the years. I
- 17:20Speaker 3: mean not just this particular event, but this whole I mean,
- 17:23Speaker 3: the River's always been there. You know, it's always been there,
- 17:26Speaker 3: but it's like some at some point and people have
- 17:28Speaker 3: always taken advantage of them. But years ago somebody said,
- 17:31Speaker 3: number one is clean this thing up, which you've done
- 17:33Speaker 3: a fantastic job on that. But number two, let's open
- 17:36Speaker 3: it up for people to come in. And I talk
- 17:38Speaker 3: about this all the time about how sometimes we as well,
- 17:41Speaker 3: and I guess people that live in other areas do
- 17:43Speaker 3: this to you kind of take your home area for granted.
- 17:45Speaker 3: You just think, oh, that's a river, it's always been there.
- 17:47Speaker 3: But there are people coming in for this thing all
- 17:50Speaker 3: over the country, Adam, that don't necessarily have this or
- 17:53Speaker 3: they don't have one particularly like this because they for
- 17:57Speaker 3: the people that are into this stuff, and we've talked
- 17:58Speaker 3: to them on the air in the past, they love
- 18:01Speaker 3: the Coal River. I mean they they love And I'm
- 18:04Speaker 3: not into it myself as far as why they love it,
- 18:06Speaker 3: but you probably are. I mean, what is it about
- 18:09Speaker 3: the so appealing to them?
- 18:10Speaker 7: It's I when I moved h Saint Albans, that was
- 18:14Speaker 7: one of the first things that everybody told me about
- 18:16Speaker 7: in town is the Coal River and you got to
- 18:17Speaker 7: go kayaking and how great it is. Uh, and it's fantastic.
- 18:20Speaker 7: It's a it's a peaceful, serene river. It doesn't move fast.
- 18:24Speaker 7: It's a great time to just like to float, float,
- 18:27Speaker 7: just float. Uh, if you don't paddle the torticle is
- 18:30Speaker 7: a long day because the river moves pretty slow. You know,
- 18:33Speaker 7: it's a it's a very laxadaisical, enjoyable afternoon. And the
- 18:37Speaker 7: Tourticle they got it right. They didn't make it a
- 18:40Speaker 7: race or something else like that. They focused on just
- 18:44Speaker 7: just community float, have a good time, enjoy yourself and
- 18:47Speaker 7: it's a party on the river, party on the street
- 18:49Speaker 7: with the access.
- 18:50Speaker 3: And again it seems that what I when I understand
- 18:53Speaker 3: in the past and talk to Bill Curry and those folks,
- 18:54Speaker 3: is that what they do is there's people set up
- 18:56Speaker 3: all along the sides of the river doing stuff.
- 18:58Speaker 4: Talk about that. Yeah, yeah, I saw the other day.
- 19:00Speaker 7: I think one of the local baseball teams or something
- 19:03Speaker 7: like that is is selling pepperoni rolls from one of
- 19:05Speaker 7: the docks along the river. And you know, it's the people.
- 19:08Speaker 7: The thing that I was most amazed the first time.
- 19:10Speaker 7: I don't get to do the Torticole anymore because I'm
- 19:12Speaker 7: working yack Fest, which is the downfall of yax Fest
- 19:15Speaker 7: for me personally, but it's it's worth it. But the
- 19:17Speaker 7: first thing I noticed I was super just how cool
- 19:20Speaker 7: is this is? There people just standing in their backyards.
- 19:23Speaker 7: You need a water, well for you water, You need
- 19:25Speaker 7: a beer, here's a beer. You know, like it was
- 19:27Speaker 7: just such a great community event, you know, just people
- 19:31Speaker 7: lying on the river, just just waving, having a good time,
- 19:33Speaker 7: saying Hi.
- 19:34Speaker 3: It's a nine twenty six with Dave Island showing five Anieline.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Brought to you in part by your hometown baseball team,
- 19:38Speaker 3: the Charleston Dirty Birds. It's Pride Night tonight at Golmart Ballpark.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Special Pride Night shirts courtesy of Element Federal Credit Union.
- 19:45Speaker 3: For tickets, schedules, promotions, merchandise had more, visit dirtybirds baseball
- 19:49Speaker 3: dot com. Now let's get back to a Yakfest for
- 19:51Speaker 3: a moment. Things kicking off there tomorrow night, right, yep?
- 19:53Speaker 4: Yep? Tomorrow at four o'clock is when we start.
- 19:55Speaker 14: Yep.
- 19:56Speaker 3: So where do you park people that come in for this?
- 19:58Speaker 4: Wherever? So wherever you can find a spot.
- 20:00Speaker 7: Yes, we actually made a post on our Facebook page,
- 20:03Speaker 7: I believe yesterday of a lot of the there's a
- 20:06Speaker 7: lot of churches in the immediate area around Main Street
- 20:09Speaker 7: that have opened up their parking lots for people to
- 20:12Speaker 7: park at, and we made a post about that on
- 20:13Speaker 7: our Facebook page. If you're looking for parking, there's at
- 20:16Speaker 7: least three or four churches within a block or two
- 20:18Speaker 7: of Main Street that are opening up their their their
- 20:21Speaker 7: parking lots for parking.
- 20:22Speaker 4: And anywhere you can find on one of those side
- 20:24Speaker 4: streets is good too.
- 20:26Speaker 13: It will be a good time for sure. A lot
- 20:29Speaker 13: of great music, food, a ton of food vendors chuckers
- 20:32Speaker 13: off the hook on the street. And I know we've
- 20:34Speaker 13: got Icy Lady. I can't thank of it. I see
- 20:40Speaker 13: that Icy Lady.
- 20:46Speaker 4: We knew what he was saying. There's there's too many
- 20:49Speaker 4: food vendors to mention really that.
- 20:51Speaker 7: I was really surprised this year we got a lot
- 20:54Speaker 7: more food vendors registered, and that it's a very wide
- 20:57Speaker 7: variety of food.
- 20:59Speaker 4: It's not just one, it's not just barbecue.
- 21:01Speaker 7: There's gonna be a little bit of everything, and and
- 21:04Speaker 7: it's just going to be I think we have one
- 21:05Speaker 7: whole side of the street I.
- 21:06Speaker 4: Think is almost all food all the way down.
- 21:08Speaker 3: Manager text here somebody said about the tour to Coal
- 21:11Speaker 3: that there's some things floating around there that this may
- 21:14Speaker 3: be the last year. Is that that's not.
- 21:15Speaker 4: Not But I have not heard anything about that whatsoever.
- 21:18Speaker 7: I don't foresee the tour to Cole ending anytime in
- 21:21Speaker 7: the near future. From what I know, I know that's
- 21:24Speaker 7: one of the biggest fundraisers they do, yeah of the
- 21:26Speaker 7: year for the Coal River Group.
- 21:27Speaker 4: That really keeps them going.
- 21:28Speaker 3: All right, I don't know why you would as far
- 21:30Speaker 3: as vendors go. Could can vendor still sign up? Or
- 21:33Speaker 3: is it way too late for that?
- 21:34Speaker 4: Yeah? Way too late.
- 21:34Speaker 7: We're full. We we filled up probably a couple of
- 21:37Speaker 7: weeks ago, and then we had a waiting list for
- 21:38Speaker 7: some people that that signed up and if somebody didn't
- 21:42Speaker 7: pay her, if somebody fell through, we'd get them in.
- 21:44Speaker 7: But they're still a waiting list of ten or fifteen.
- 21:46Speaker 7: If somebody drops through tonight, we'll fill it up already.
- 21:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:49Speaker 13: So Twana's Kitchen is on there, Shirkers off the Hook,
- 21:53Speaker 13: Samurai Hibachi is going to be their sugar Pop, Candy,
- 21:58Speaker 13: Beg Street, Tacos here, and Ipity Charleston p D. They've
- 22:01Speaker 13: got a food booth to the Lucky lemon. Maybe that
- 22:05Speaker 13: was what I was thinking. And Sherry's Concessions all sorts
- 22:09Speaker 13: of good stuff out there.
- 22:10Speaker 3: And I'm glad to see our guy at Chuck, our
- 22:13Speaker 3: guy guy at Schucker's getting involved in this as well,
- 22:18Speaker 3: because he's got a killer food truck out there.
- 22:19Speaker 13: Now, does Steve as you know, well, yes, so feed
- 22:22Speaker 13: and water us guy, would you yes please?
- 22:24Speaker 3: And one of the things I like about this with
- 22:27Speaker 3: Saint Albans and this happens in other communities, but sometimes
- 22:30Speaker 3: it doesn't happen that way. And that's that the businesses
- 22:33Speaker 3: embrace this because in some towns, and I've been a
- 22:36Speaker 3: part of some of these things, the businesses are like, yeah,
- 22:38Speaker 3: we want this thing to be over whatever. That's not
- 22:40Speaker 3: the way it happens with almost any event. In Saint Albans.
- 22:43Speaker 3: I've been part of the fall y'all Chili cookoff for years.
- 22:47Speaker 3: You got this event going on and so many other things.
- 22:49Speaker 3: I mean, the businesses in Saint Albans really really wrapped
- 22:52Speaker 3: themselves around this.
- 22:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:54Speaker 7: I think we've really I think initially they were maybe
- 22:57Speaker 7: a little hesitant, but they saw very quickly that we're
- 23:00Speaker 7: bringing a lot of people from out of town into
- 23:03Speaker 7: town on those days, and those people are not just
- 23:07Speaker 7: spending time and money at our event, they're also venturing
- 23:10Speaker 7: into these local storefronts on main Street and around the
- 23:13Speaker 7: area as well, spending their money in Saint Albans. It's
- 23:16Speaker 7: it's a great economic boost for the community and I
- 23:19Speaker 7: think the businesses have really realized that.
- 23:21Speaker 13: And we get some nice donations too for the hospitality
- 23:24Speaker 13: suite from that face Drummies. We have the tap Shuckers,
- 23:29Speaker 13: Cole River Coffee, we have Cosmel just around the corner,
- 23:32Speaker 13: and a little bit of Heaven cutle bit of heaven yepcake.
- 23:35Speaker 13: So all of them donate to make sure it's a
- 23:37Speaker 13: fun event for everyone who comes to the town who
- 23:39Speaker 13: may have not experienced Saint Albans.
- 23:41Speaker 3: So it's pretty awesome.
- 23:43Speaker 4: Yeah, it's fantastic.
- 23:44Speaker 3: And let's talk about that experience in Saint Albans, because
- 23:46Speaker 3: I mean, I had the mayor on here frequently, Adam,
- 23:48Speaker 3: and you and I know Steve is mister Saint Albans.
- 23:51Speaker 3: He's got He tells me he has a sash, but
- 23:53Speaker 3: I don't don't. I don't want to see that. That's
- 23:56Speaker 3: frequently all he wants to wear a sash, But let's
- 23:59Speaker 3: talk about what goes on in St Albans on almost
- 24:02Speaker 3: a weekly or at least every couple of weekly basis.
- 24:07Speaker 7: There's something going on all the time. Uh in St Albans.
- 24:12Speaker 7: My main work day, my main day job is the
- 24:15Speaker 7: albur Arts Center, and we've got an event almost every weekend.
- 24:19Speaker 7: The music scene is blowing up in Saint Albans. There's
- 24:23Speaker 7: an open mic or somebody playing music at one of
- 24:26Speaker 7: the local bars on main Street almost every night, every
- 24:29Speaker 7: every week this nowadays, which is awesome.
- 24:31Speaker 4: Yeah, it's fantastic.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Guys.
- 24:32Speaker 3: I think we have a somebody with a with a
- 24:34Speaker 3: call here, can we take a call? Yah? All right,
- 24:37Speaker 3: your show, all right, it is all right. Mike could
- 24:40Speaker 3: go ahead. You're on with the with Adam and Shockley
- 24:42Speaker 3: and Steve. Go ahead.
- 24:44Speaker 14: Yes, Hello, my name is Mike.
- 24:46Speaker 4: Mike.
- 24:47Speaker 14: I'm sixty nine years old. And about it was back
- 24:52Speaker 14: in well, probably forty five years ago or so. For
- 24:56Speaker 14: several years they had what was called the cole rip
- 24:59Speaker 14: Canoe Maras on which which left out of Peytona and
- 25:04Speaker 14: went all the way into Saint Albans. And it was
- 25:08Speaker 14: actually a race and and and they had divisions. I
- 25:14Speaker 14: understand that that. You know, the access is great, it's cool,
- 25:17Speaker 14: brings people in. But that race was also very cool.
- 25:21Speaker 14: I raced a couple of times in it. Uh, of
- 25:24Speaker 14: course I was a lot younger than it was. It
- 25:29Speaker 14: was just a lot of fun. You know, racing is
- 25:31Speaker 14: fun and but but that was there was just canoes
- 25:35Speaker 14: for the most part. Back then, I was. It was
- 25:37Speaker 14: just that's all I had to say. Way, we actually camped,
- 25:42Speaker 14: We actually camped had Peytona excuse me. They have a
- 25:47Speaker 14: nice beach there and uh we were allowed to camp
- 25:50Speaker 14: there before and the race left from there. And you
- 25:53Speaker 14: actually had to portage at the acton off Falls.
- 25:56Speaker 4: Sure.
- 25:57Speaker 14: Uh there in Tornado. You had to take you know,
- 26:02Speaker 14: get out of the water which your canoe and pourt
- 26:04Speaker 14: it through the woods a little bit and put it
- 26:06Speaker 14: back in. It was a great race. They gave out
- 26:08Speaker 14: trophies with pieces of coal with.
- 26:11Speaker 3: A love it.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:15Speaker 14: My brother in law actually won. I think he won twice.
- 26:19Speaker 14: And you know it was great, that's all.
- 26:22Speaker 4: Yeah, that sounds like a lot of fun.
- 26:23Speaker 3: All right, Mike. We appreciate your phone call man, thanks
- 26:25Speaker 3: a lot. I mean, there's no nothing that says we
- 26:27Speaker 3: couldn't possibly do that At some point in the future. Absolutely.
- 26:30Speaker 4: Yeah, the river's not going anywhere.
- 26:31Speaker 3: It's been there for a couple of decades, right at least. Yeah,
- 26:34Speaker 3: all right, give us a rundown again the times and
- 26:37Speaker 3: the and all all the stuff.
- 26:39Speaker 7: Friday we start at four o'clock and we go to ten.
- 26:42Speaker 7: Saturday is two o'clock to ten. You can find all
- 26:45Speaker 7: the band lineup and more information at yakfestwv dot com.
- 26:49Speaker 3: All right, and talk about the role that our sister
- 26:51Speaker 3: Station the Mountain will play in all this thing, Steven.
- 26:53Speaker 13: We'll be uh there of course. Uh not only do
- 26:56Speaker 13: we help with volunteers if you need something on the street,
- 26:59Speaker 13: I'll be doing stage announcements and of course welcoming everyone
- 27:02Speaker 13: to Saint Albans React Fest again. It's always it's such
- 27:05Speaker 13: a fun event. Shockoli. I'm going to drag you out
- 27:07Speaker 13: because I need help.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Man, Like anyone who's ever met you doesn't know, you
- 27:13Speaker 3: need to know. It's going to be a great time.
- 27:16Speaker 4: It always is.
- 27:16Speaker 3: You guys, follow them on social media as well, because
- 27:20Speaker 3: you have social media of all kinds, from the city
- 27:22Speaker 3: to the actual event page and so on and so forth.
- 27:25Speaker 3: So we'll see you down there. And I'm excited to
- 27:27Speaker 3: know that Hair Supply is going to be playing the
- 27:29Speaker 3: official party band of ninety eight seven amount.
- 27:31Speaker 13: Yes, they are awesome, and I'm so thrilled that they
- 27:33Speaker 13: are back on the streets of Saint Abbyst. They were
- 27:35Speaker 13: told they would never play there again, and ha, they're back.
- 27:38Speaker 13: We made it happen.
- 27:41Speaker 3: Those guys are fantastic And if you haven't had an
- 27:43Speaker 3: opportunity to see Hair Supply, I mean you really really should,
- 27:46Speaker 3: because I mean, if you're I mean, well, let's say
- 27:49Speaker 3: three of us are eighties kids, out of you may
- 27:51Speaker 3: be a little bit younger than.
- 27:52Speaker 4: I was born in the eighties.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Okay, well turn his mic off and Steve was born
- 27:59Speaker 3: in the eighteen eighties. But I mean, Hair Supply is
- 28:03Speaker 3: a fantastic and I know all those guys. For the
- 28:07Speaker 3: lead singer, I've literally known since he was a kid.
- 28:09Speaker 3: And and pipes is something else, man, And they're just
- 28:15Speaker 3: fantastic or we be love good eighties party music, and
- 28:18Speaker 3: they throw in some seventies something there as well, but
- 28:20Speaker 3: primarily eighties. It's a great band to go check out.
- 28:22Speaker 3: And the great thing about it is, guys, it's absolutely
- 28:24Speaker 3: free on the streets, the same free sure guys, appreciate
- 28:28Speaker 3: you being here, and we'll see you this weekend. It's
- 28:31Speaker 3: Yakfest and of course the Tour de Cold going down

- 28:53Speaker 3: rain or shine.
- 28:54Speaker 4: Yeah, rainer shine.
- 28:55Speaker 7: Absolutely, we're we might have a few scattered showers maybe
- 28:58Speaker 7: on Saturday, but we're the party doesn't stop.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Yeah, no, it's going to go, all right regardless.
- 29:03Speaker 4: It's cool.

- 32:17Speaker 3: Dad jokes, everybody.
- 32:20Speaker 11: I was just thinking, these ladies have a really interesting
- 32:23Speaker 11: process for maybe winnowing down that pool of fifteen on
- 32:26Speaker 11: the West Virginia Scholars Okay.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Maybe we could, maybe we can do it. Dad jokes
- 32:29Speaker 3: dot a dad jokes. I'm just saying, you just never know,
- 32:32Speaker 3: all right, So they're doing a battle, if you will
- 32:36Speaker 3: of the dad jokesters as Rob immediately goes.
- 32:40Speaker 11: Into eura jet, eura jet. All sorry, I know a
- 32:44Speaker 11: little more about musical theater than a straight white dude should.
- 32:48Speaker 3: Rob reel from Assissocation ninety six to one KWS is
- 32:50Speaker 3: here and you ladies introduce yourselves.
- 32:52Speaker 8: I am Naomi Bays, the executive director of the West
- 32:54Speaker 8: Side Neighborhood Association.
- 32:56Speaker 18: Hi there, I'm Samantha Niguard, and I also work at
- 32:59Speaker 18: the West Side Neighborhood.
- 33:00Speaker 3: All right, before we get into what we're doing with
- 33:02Speaker 3: this these dad jokes battle, what exactly is the association?
- 33:05Speaker 3: What do you do?
- 33:06Speaker 8: So we cover the west side of Charleston and we
- 33:10Speaker 8: essentially organize cleanups, we plant flowers, we do beautification projects,
- 33:15Speaker 8: and we just work to bring neighbors together.
- 33:17Speaker 3: How long has this thing been a thing? How long
- 33:19Speaker 3: you been doing this?
- 33:20Speaker 8: So I've been the executive director now for about almost
- 33:22Speaker 8: two years. The association itself has been around since nineteen
- 33:25Speaker 8: ninety six.
- 33:26Speaker 3: West has Samantha, Hey, what's your involvement? Here, Samantha.
- 33:32Speaker 18: So I helped facilitate the cleanups for the West Side,
- 33:36Speaker 18: so and also facilitating our Love Your Block program to
- 33:39Speaker 18: make sure that our neighbors on the West Side have
- 33:42Speaker 18: the materials they need to make their blocks beautiful.
- 33:46Speaker 3: All right, So what we're doing here, there's going to
- 33:48Speaker 3: be this dad joke competition, and like, you could not
- 33:51Speaker 3: have gotten anybody better to do this. Well they tried,
- 33:55Speaker 3: but yeah, they tried to get somebody better.
- 33:57Speaker 18: It's the best we could get.
- 33:58Speaker 3: Yeah, well the best get for the money, right, Bob.
- 34:02Speaker 3: What is it that you think makes dad jokes uh
- 34:05Speaker 3: so so popular always?
- 34:08Speaker 11: I think it is the combination of quick wittedness.
- 34:12Speaker 3: I think it's the.
- 34:13Speaker 11: Accessibility of you know, making fun of everyday situations. And
- 34:18Speaker 11: I do think there is a tinge of nostalgia to it,
- 34:21Speaker 11: you know, Grandad I always said, boy, nostalgia ain't what
- 34:24Speaker 11: it used to be, but the the simple jokes from
- 34:27Speaker 11: a simpler time when you know your dad has got
- 34:29Speaker 11: on the you know, the socks with the sandals and
- 34:32Speaker 11: the the.
- 34:34Speaker 3: Green semi clear translucent was the word.
- 34:36Speaker 11: I wanted, the green translucent visor out in the sun
- 34:41Speaker 11: and his metal detector and by painting a pin.
- 34:45Speaker 18: You're taking me back in time.
- 34:48Speaker 3: Uh, but yeah, I think there's something to be said
- 34:51Speaker 3: for that. And look, I you know, people that know
- 34:53Speaker 3: me know, and Rob you may find this shocking. I
- 34:55Speaker 3: like a I like blue Humor every now and then.
- 34:57Speaker 3: I know you'll find that very shocking.
- 34:59Speaker 4: Okay.
- 34:59Speaker 3: No, However, however, there is something to be said. There's
- 35:03Speaker 3: a reason why Andy Afpoth is still on the air
- 35:05Speaker 3: and why it's still popular because people still love, as
- 35:09Speaker 3: you said, simple clean humor.
- 35:12Speaker 11: I am acquainted with a stand up by the name
- 35:15Speaker 11: of Greg Warren, whom you may have heard. Greg has
- 35:18Speaker 11: a new special coincidentally, and one of the things I
- 35:20Speaker 11: said to Greg recently, I said, you are inconspicuously clean.
- 35:24Speaker 11: And by that I mean he doesn't try to. I'm
- 35:27Speaker 11: only gonna work clean. He's just he's not a guy
- 35:30Speaker 11: who curses a lot. He's not a guy who gets
- 35:32Speaker 11: into those sorts of subjects, and so he just he
- 35:35Speaker 11: ends up by default being a family friendly guy, even
- 35:38Speaker 11: though he doesn't set out that way. We're kind of
- 35:40Speaker 11: gonna be that way on Saturday Night. The goal is
- 35:45Speaker 11: to be family friendly. The goal is to think Rocky
- 35:47Speaker 11: and Bullwinkle think SpongeBob SquarePants, think those kinds of shows
- 35:51Speaker 11: where there might be two levels of humor, stuff that
- 35:54Speaker 11: the adults can definitely laugh at that the.
- 35:56Speaker 3: Kids don't get.
- 35:56Speaker 11: But this is a kid friendly room at the old
- 36:00Speaker 11: Capital Theater on Summer Street one two three Summer Street.
- 36:02Speaker 3: It's now Resurrection Church.
- 36:04Speaker 11: That kind of feeds into the whole family friendly vibe
- 36:07Speaker 11: and we're gonna have ourselves a good time.
- 36:09Speaker 3: And look, I'll say it right now, one of the
- 36:10Speaker 3: funnies comedians live to me is Jim Gaffigan. And I
- 36:13Speaker 3: don't know if Jim Gaffigan has ever uttered a profane
- 36:16Speaker 3: word on stage at all, and he's woned only during
- 36:20Speaker 3: Purdue games. Yeah, but you talk about dad jokes, I mean,
- 36:24Speaker 3: this is a quinn essential dad. I mean, I think
- 36:26Speaker 3: Gaffickan's got like five kids or something like that, and
- 36:28Speaker 3: he does, and it's fantastic. So how did you get
- 36:32Speaker 3: the idea to come up with a competition.
- 36:35Speaker 8: I had this idea kicking around in my head for
- 36:37Speaker 8: many years when I owned Oddbird Gifts downtown, so that
- 36:41Speaker 8: was like weird, quirky gift shop, and I just had
- 36:43Speaker 8: this idea floating around my head and it just never
- 36:47Speaker 8: quite was the right time. Found myself in this new position,
- 36:51Speaker 8: and I was like, you know what, we're not there's
- 36:53Speaker 8: nothing like this in this area state. We can't find
- 36:57Speaker 8: anybody else has ever done a dad joke comedy battle, good.
- 37:00Speaker 18: Not even all over the country. This is the only
- 37:03Speaker 18: dad joke comedy battle really only.
- 37:05Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, so how did you go about getting people
- 37:07Speaker 3: to sign up? And is it too late? If somebody
- 37:09Speaker 3: wants to.
- 37:09Speaker 8: Sign up, you can be on a stand by list,
- 37:13Speaker 8: but you better have you know, some dad jokes that
- 37:16Speaker 8: you can roll out real quick because we have a
- 37:19Speaker 8: stand by list. But yeah, we've got most of our
- 37:20Speaker 8: contestants ready to go. We're all good to go for that.
- 37:24Speaker 3: How many contestants do you have? Approximately?
- 37:25Speaker 8: Well?
- 37:26Speaker 4: Ten?
- 37:26Speaker 8: Okay, Yeah, so we'll you know, narrow it down.
- 37:28Speaker 3: And you've got people want to see the names you've
- 37:30Speaker 3: actually got them. I was looking at your social media
- 37:33Speaker 3: pages early. You've got some there's a couple of guys
- 37:35Speaker 3: on there that I definitely know.
- 37:36Speaker 8: Yeah, we're rolling them out. We've got a whole media
- 37:39Speaker 8: thing that we're doing, you know, as they get us
- 37:40Speaker 8: served bios and pictures in and we've told them if
- 37:42Speaker 8: you don't get it in by us, we're gonna start
- 37:44Speaker 8: making up stuff about.
- 37:45Speaker 3: You well and we don't. You don't want Rob to
- 37:46Speaker 3: do that. I can tell you that no, I wouldn't
- 37:49Speaker 3: dream of doing that. As somebody has had stuff made
- 37:51Speaker 3: up about them by Rob. We definitely don't want that.
- 37:56Speaker 3: So how does a format work?
- 37:58Speaker 8: So I'll say I'm explaining the format on that one.
- 38:00Speaker 18: Yeah, We'll have three rounds of dad joke competition and
- 38:05Speaker 18: it will be juried. We'll have three judges in addition
- 38:08Speaker 18: to our lovely mc so. So each round the the
- 38:12Speaker 18: dads will present their dad jokes, with the final round
- 38:15Speaker 18: being a face to face dad joke off between the
- 38:19Speaker 18: last two contestants who make it that far. And it
- 38:22Speaker 18: will actually have a little twist, actually a splash, because
- 38:26Speaker 18: there will be a spit take, so people in the
- 38:28Speaker 18: front rows will get wet.
- 38:30Speaker 8: Oh well really yeah, not like quite Gallagher style, Like
- 38:34Speaker 8: you don't need to bring like.
- 38:35Speaker 3: An We'll keep them. We couldn't we couldn't get the
- 38:39Speaker 3: rights on Sledge of Mattic. Keep in mind that this
- 38:42Speaker 3: is actually being held in a church, Okay, I mean
- 38:44Speaker 3: it's a theater that now a church.
- 38:46Speaker 8: Meets there, but so they keep totally on board with all. Yes,
- 38:49Speaker 8: they love every part of this and did not.
- 38:51Speaker 3: See that you. In addition to the competitors, you have
- 38:54Speaker 3: another person coming in as well, right talking about that,
- 38:57Speaker 3: another comedian.
- 38:58Speaker 18: Oh yes, Angie Davis from Honey will be our headlining comedian,
- 39:02Speaker 18: So she'll be performing while the judges deliberate to determine
- 39:06Speaker 18: the top two contestant.
- 39:07Speaker 3: I love it. I love it because sometimes when when
- 39:10Speaker 3: the deliberations started, it could be you could take a
- 39:12Speaker 3: little while.
- 39:13Speaker 11: And there there are ways for everyone in the crowd
- 39:17Speaker 11: to kind of be involved with this. Of course, you
- 39:19Speaker 11: know you're gonna yell and scream and cheer and throw babies,
- 39:21Speaker 11: as my college band.
- 39:22Speaker 3: Director would say, but kind of frowned upon them generally.
- 39:27Speaker 11: But there are there are, of course, prizes and and
- 39:32Speaker 11: shenanigans like that. But Samantha has a particular ting to
- 39:38Speaker 11: get people involved.
- 39:40Speaker 18: A little tingling. We have you. You know we're traditional
- 39:45Speaker 18: applause clap, clap, clap, but you want a little bit more, something,
- 39:49Speaker 18: a little extra, especially for a dad joke competition. So
- 39:52Speaker 18: on theme with our grill master fathers in our lives,
- 39:55Speaker 18: we will have tongs available for people to tongue along
- 39:59Speaker 18: as they off.
- 40:00Speaker 8: With the jokes.
- 40:01Speaker 3: I mean, what happens every time you grab a pair
- 40:03Speaker 3: of tong It just definitely that's exactly what I was
- 40:06Speaker 3: going to say, you got it. You gotta make sure.
- 40:09Speaker 3: And I don't think in the history of tongs as
- 40:11Speaker 3: anybody ever picked up a pair that didn't work. I don't.
- 40:14Speaker 3: I don't know if tongs if you send them to
- 40:15Speaker 3: the tongue repair shop or I don't. I don't know
- 40:17Speaker 3: exactly what you call a tong truck. I mean, nicely done?
- 40:22Speaker 3: Can I get in for next?
- 40:22Speaker 8: On?
- 40:23Speaker 9: What do you do?
- 40:23Speaker 3: What are you doing Saturday? Yeah, that's about as good
- 40:27Speaker 3: as it would give a dight villance show? And five
- 40:28Speaker 3: any Live presented in part by Generations Physical Therapy, the
- 40:31Speaker 3: leading provider of out patient PT in the Tri State

- 40:39Speaker 3: com to find the closest location near you. Rob is
- 40:42Speaker 3: an MC. What are you going to be contributing to this?
- 40:46Speaker 3: As you know obviously you're a funny guy, but I mean,
- 40:48Speaker 3: well it looks aren't everything? Yeah.
- 40:50Speaker 11: The I describe myself in these situations as the dance
- 40:54Speaker 11: and chicken. You just put me on the stove and
- 40:56Speaker 11: turn on the heat and I do what we need
- 40:59Speaker 11: to do. I will be both stirring the pot and
- 41:04Speaker 11: steering things in the right direction. The first round is
- 41:08Speaker 11: going to be ten competitors with only a minute each
- 41:11Speaker 11: to do their three best dad jokes. So that's I mean,
- 41:13Speaker 11: that's rapid fire. That's move them through. And then we
- 41:16Speaker 11: get into the second round, where there's a little more time.
- 41:19Speaker 11: And by the time we get to the face off,
- 41:22Speaker 11: the spit take face off, I may be right in
- 41:25Speaker 11: the middle of this. I may need to go with
- 41:26Speaker 11: the glasses instead of the contacts, just because you know,
- 41:29Speaker 11: I'll be right in the middle of the splash zone,
- 41:31Speaker 11: I think when it comes to this, but just to
- 41:33Speaker 11: just to keep it on track, keep it fun, keep
- 41:36Speaker 11: it clean. I may have to call some penalties on
- 41:40Speaker 11: some folks. In addition to you know, mister Carlin's seven
- 41:43Speaker 11: words that you know we'll be watching for. The rule
- 41:47Speaker 11: when I worked at a network that's now on one
- 41:50Speaker 11: of our sister stations was if it's in the Bible,
- 41:52Speaker 11: you can say the word.
- 41:53Speaker 3: And since we'll be in a church. We'll be fine, but.
- 41:55Speaker 11: There might be a there might be a word or
- 41:57Speaker 11: two that could slip out, and we'll throw the penalty flag.
- 42:01Speaker 3: Will also keep in mind that when you throw the flag,
- 42:05Speaker 3: will you say personal foul?
- 42:07Speaker 11: And now, yes, I like it fifteen yards of course,
- 42:13Speaker 11: that would move them all the way out of the
- 42:14Speaker 11: theater now that I think about it, or theater as
- 42:16Speaker 11: we say here.
- 42:17Speaker 3: In West Virginia.
- 42:18Speaker 11: And there will also be some topics that might be
- 42:23Speaker 11: okay at the backyard barbecue that aren't necessarily for all
- 42:28Speaker 11: ages and all audiences, so we.
- 42:30Speaker 3: May have to call a penalty or two on that.
- 42:32Speaker 11: I don't have the big guns that Ed hockey Lely
- 42:34Speaker 11: from the NFL has lots of lady football fans know
- 42:38Speaker 11: what I'm talking about with that. But we'll just try
- 42:41Speaker 11: to keep the thing on the track, keep it on
- 42:42Speaker 11: the rails, got.
- 42:43Speaker 3: A texture, says dear Dave. When you think about it,
- 42:45Speaker 3: dad jokes were the first memes, the quick one liners.
- 42:48Speaker 3: We dads were ahead of our time, says a Texter. Yes, absolutely,
- 42:54Speaker 3: I know. My dad was. I mean my late father,
- 42:56Speaker 3: God rest his soul. He was a very religious man
- 42:59Speaker 3: as well, so he was limited into what he could
- 43:01Speaker 3: what he could say. The closest that he ever got
- 43:04Speaker 3: to saying anything that was graphic from my dad would
- 43:07Speaker 3: have been if he heard me singing, which I cannot
- 43:10Speaker 3: do at all. He would hear me singing doing something.
- 43:13Speaker 3: He would say that boy sings in the key of L.
- 43:15Speaker 3: And he would say, well, it sounds like L.
- 43:18Speaker 4: Well played, you.
- 43:19Speaker 3: Just got to play. He's got to say that quickly.
- 43:21Speaker 3: That's the closest my dad ever got to that.
- 43:23Speaker 11: Remember, it's make a joyful noise, not necessarily a pleasant one.
- 43:26Speaker 3: My dad, who was a Sunday school superintendent, also used
- 43:29Speaker 3: to say, you know, you know what God needs clappers.
- 43:31Speaker 4: To or songs.
- 43:33Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what we need.
- 43:35Speaker 9: All right.
- 43:35Speaker 3: Where can people get tickets?
- 43:37Speaker 8: You can get our tickets at Westside Neighbor dot org.
- 43:40Speaker 8: You can also find the direct link on our Facebook.

- 43:48Speaker 8: concessions on hands, so we'll have popcorn and soda and
- 43:52Speaker 8: chips and all that jazz, so it'll be it'll be

- 47:05Speaker 3: Lots to talk about today. Brad mclhanney is going to
- 47:07Speaker 3: join us. Brad keep and I on several things today,
- 47:11Speaker 3: including I think some statements are coming out from Senator
- 47:13Speaker 3: schlimore Capito today. Also that the State Board of Education
- 47:18Speaker 3: meeting yesterday. A lot of news came out of that,
- 47:21Speaker 3: including State school Superintendent Michelle Blatz coming out and we
- 47:26Speaker 3: played you know, we talked about it on the Midday
- 47:28Speaker 3: Show yesterday. Basically stand upon the vaccine issue, that what
- 47:33Speaker 3: we say supersedes or what state losses supersedes the Governor's
- 47:36Speaker 3: executive order on vaccines. This is going to court. I
- 47:38Speaker 3: mean you know that, folks. It's absolutely going to court.
- 47:40Speaker 3: So we will get into that with Brad and some
- 47:43Speaker 3: other things. Also, the family of Quantes Burks is going
- 47:48Speaker 3: to be on the show as well, And there is
- 47:49Speaker 3: a settlement released in the Dunbar police dispute, and we'll
- 47:54Speaker 3: talk to the attorneys in that case coming up on
- 47:57Speaker 3: the show on this show tomorrow on the Friday edition
- 48:00Speaker 3: of A Day Violin Show on five eighty Live. Of
- 48:02Speaker 3: course it's Friday, which means Angie Gill and Water from
- 48:04Speaker 3: the Ganala Charleston Humane Association is here with this week's
- 48:06Speaker 3: About Me Please pet of the Week. And we got
- 48:09Speaker 3: some other things going on, including Live on the Levee
- 48:11Speaker 3: which is back tomorrow night, so Jim Strong will join
- 48:14Speaker 3: us for that. I do want to closed with this.
- 48:15Speaker 3: I appreciate the kind words on the show that we
- 48:18Speaker 3: did yesterday. Many of us still trying to process the
- 48:21Speaker 3: death of Doug scaff and that show yesterday had very
- 48:25Speaker 3: little to do with me. It was just the guest
- 48:28Speaker 3: reflecting on the life and legacy of Doug Scaff, who
- 48:32Speaker 3: I'm sure you know my name, was killed in that
- 48:34Speaker 3: car crash Tuesday on I seventy nine. The thing I
- 48:37Speaker 3: like most about the show, to be honest with you, yesterday,
- 48:40Speaker 3: again not a reflection on the host at all, is
- 48:43Speaker 3: that Republicans and Democrats came together to talk about Doug
- 48:49Speaker 3: and when I was reaching out to people not one
- 48:53Speaker 3: person that I talked to said well, I don't want
- 48:56Speaker 3: to talk with this person, or I don't want to
- 48:59Speaker 3: talk after that person or before this person. No one cared,
- 49:03Speaker 3: which I love. I mean, I really really loved that
- 49:06Speaker 3: first two guests on the show, a Democrat county commissioner
- 49:10Speaker 3: and the Republican attorney general. Throughout the show, I had
- 49:15Speaker 3: folks that were Republicans and Democrats, and nobody said a
- 49:18Speaker 3: word about it, because that's that's it's kind of what
- 49:22Speaker 3: Doug Scaffe was all about. When scaff was on the
- 49:24Speaker 3: show two three weeks ago, he even said, look, the
- 49:27Speaker 3: election is over. It's time for everybody to come together,
- 49:32Speaker 3: and I and I do appreciate it. And by the way,
- 49:34Speaker 3: I'm gonna go ahead and throw this out there right
- 49:36Speaker 3: now to a person by the name of Gregory Allen
- 49:39Speaker 3: Wingo who felt the need to say on a mutual
- 49:42Speaker 3: Friends social media page that Doug's legacy was to abandon
- 49:46Speaker 3: his political party at a critical moment. Screw you, dude,
- 49:52Speaker 3: That's what I'm That's what I'm leaving you with. The
- 49:54Speaker 3: proceeding with the thoughts of Dave Allen and no one
- 49:56Speaker 3: else but Dave Allen showing five any Live has brought
- 49:59Speaker 3: you a part by I Live Healthy West Virginia presented

- 50:25Speaker 3: Jery Constructions studios this morning. Good morning, sir, how are you?
- 50:28Speaker 4: Good morning?
- 50:29Speaker 3: My mama taught me to pray for people like that,
- 50:31Speaker 3: so that's what I'm now.
- 50:31Speaker 4: That's a little bit.
- 50:32Speaker 3: And your mama is a better person than I am.
- 50:34Speaker 3: But you know, I have no I have nothing. I
- 50:38Speaker 3: don't mean that towards you. No, no, no, no no,
- 50:40Speaker 3: And I would be a better person I am. But
- 50:42Speaker 3: but if you go on somebody's and I'm not going
- 50:44Speaker 3: to dwell on this because I'm not going to give
- 50:46Speaker 3: this idiot any any more press. But when someone passes
- 50:50Speaker 3: away and you feel the need, just scroll on man,
- 50:55Speaker 3: scroll on, scroll on highways, scroll on crew sort of
- 50:58Speaker 3: quote you know radio in Alabama. Just keep going, just
- 51:02Speaker 3: keep going. Thanks for putting that song in my head.
- 51:04Speaker 3: You don't have to comment on everything. You have to
- 51:06Speaker 3: comment on a lot though. All right, what's going on

- 51:19Speaker 19: What's the fix because the finance board says they're stable,
- 51:22Speaker 19: that's based on the eighty twenty. What's the legislature to
- 51:25Speaker 19: think about this? Jason Barrett's Berkeley County Senator Finance Committee
