- 0:57Speaker 2: All right, Kevin mccaullaugh, glad to have you with us.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Welcome in.
- 1:00Speaker 2: As we are saying this, hearing this, broadcasting this. We
- 1:07Speaker 2: are in the middle here in Manhattan of a little
- 1:10Speaker 2: bit of a crisis because in the middle of Midtown
- 1:14Speaker 2: one of the high rise buildings near Grand Central Terminal
- 1:18Speaker 2: was evacuated this morning, and authorities say it was at
- 1:22Speaker 2: risk of collapsing. Officials with the New York Fire Department
- 1:27Speaker 2: said they got a call about three minutes to eight
- 1:30Speaker 2: this morning some falling bricks at two thirty five East
- 1:33Speaker 2: forty second Street. The building was once the corporate headquarters
- 1:37Speaker 2: for the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, which had moved to the
- 1:40Speaker 2: Spiral and Hudson Yards back in twenty eighteen. But what
- 1:45Speaker 2: we're dealing with is a thirty eight story building sagging
- 1:49Speaker 2: between the twenty first and twenty six floors, according to
- 1:52Speaker 2: the FDNY, and first responders also noting two columns buckled
- 1:58Speaker 2: between the twenty first and the twenty second floors. So
- 2:03Speaker 2: firefighters on the scene, people investigating. They have evacuated not
- 2:08Speaker 2: just that building itself, but also several of the surrounding buildings.
- 2:14Speaker 2: It's in the process of being converted into an apartment
- 2:17Speaker 2: complex with more than sixteen hundred units. Six other buildings
- 2:21Speaker 2: also evacuated as a precaution, according to fire officials, no
- 2:24Speaker 2: injuries thus far, no deaths anything like that, but the
- 2:29Speaker 2: officials with the city's Department of Buildings on the scene
- 2:34Speaker 2: and using drones to examine. Mayor Zoron Mamdani addressed the
- 2:38Speaker 2: situation at an unrelated press conference, saying that a school
- 2:42Speaker 2: with about four hundred children inside was also evacuated. Most
- 2:46Speaker 2: of forty second and forty third streets between First and
- 2:48Speaker 2: Second Avenues also shut down. So it's just a very
- 2:53Speaker 2: unfortunate series of events. We will keep our eye on it.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Hopefully there will be no further damage, but if there
- 3:02Speaker 2: is and we need to interrupt, we will do that.
- 3:05Speaker 2: But it also reminds me, and I was just thinking
- 3:09Speaker 2: about this the other day. Actually, I was thinking about
- 3:11Speaker 2: this as I was watching the fourth of July ships
- 3:15Speaker 2: and planes come into New York City. You know, when
- 3:18Speaker 2: you live in a big, big developed city like New
- 3:22Speaker 2: York and Manhattan in particular, you get so accustomed to
- 3:28Speaker 2: the kind of institutions that are there, the buildings that
- 3:32Speaker 2: are there, the granite, the marble, the concrete, and you
- 3:37Speaker 2: feel like that this is in some ways, you know, indestructible.
- 3:44Speaker 2: But for some reason, after nine to eleven, it doesn't
- 3:48Speaker 2: quite feel like that anymore. And I have often wondered
- 3:53Speaker 2: to myself, mostly quietly, for people that are in these
- 3:57Speaker 2: enormous buildings. You go to bed every night on faith,
- 4:04Speaker 2: on faith that the earth's not going to move on
- 4:06Speaker 2: faith that you know that all those floors above you
- 4:11Speaker 2: are going to be there, or that all those floors
- 4:13Speaker 2: underneath you are going to support you and you're not
- 4:15Speaker 2: going to be blown over. Like there's there's a certain
- 4:17Speaker 2: degree of confidence that I think you just you just
- 4:23Speaker 2: take with you. You know, our our radio station is
- 4:27Speaker 2: only on the third floor of the building that it's in,
- 4:29Speaker 2: and it only has eight or nine, maybe ten eleven
- 4:31Speaker 2: floor something like that, so you don't feel like you're
- 4:35Speaker 2: in a big, big building. But I've wondered, and we've
- 4:38Speaker 2: built a couple of those enormous skyscrapers now that are
- 4:42Speaker 2: apartment buildings, And.
- 4:43Speaker 3: You know, I asked.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I asked the Lovely Bride when we had a weekend
- 4:47Speaker 2: away a couple of weekends ago, we went into the
- 4:49Speaker 2: city for a couple of nights and we saw one
- 4:53Speaker 2: of them, and I was like, would you ever live
- 4:55Speaker 2: in that? And she looked at me like, are you crazy?
- 4:59Speaker 4: No.
- 5:00Speaker 2: But we both have a considerable fear of heights, so
- 5:04Speaker 2: it's not it's not something that I mean, I'll go
- 5:07Speaker 2: up in a building, I'll look out the window. I've
- 5:09Speaker 2: been to the top of all the tallest buildings in
- 5:11Speaker 2: New York. I've been out on the observation deck of
- 5:14Speaker 2: some of them. The Empire, state building, et cetera. Doesn't
- 5:16Speaker 2: bother me. But I think if I was hunkering down
- 5:21Speaker 2: for the night every night, I would be asking God
- 5:26Speaker 2: to protect the columns and the bricks and the structure
- 5:31Speaker 2: and all the stuff that we need help protecting in
- 5:35Speaker 2: that in that environment. Because we are but a spec friends,
- 5:42Speaker 2: our lives are but a speck on the on the
- 5:45Speaker 2: scale of the universe, on the scale of eternity, on
- 5:49Speaker 2: the scale of everything that's around us. Our lives are
- 5:54Speaker 2: so tiny and minuscule and almost insignificant. And that makes
- 6:00Speaker 2: what I'm about to say even more spectacular because in
- 6:04Speaker 2: our minuscule ness, in our tininess, in our ability to
- 6:10Speaker 2: be squashed like an ant ness, the God of the universe,
- 6:16Speaker 2: who created everything, who spoke and it all came into existence,
- 6:21Speaker 2: who just said, let there be light, and boom, there
- 6:24Speaker 2: were stars and light and everything, you know, everything we
- 6:27Speaker 2: needed by way of light that that God knows you
- 6:31Speaker 2: and I intimately and personally and very strongly wants to
- 6:37Speaker 2: be you know, exactly what we need him to be,
- 6:41Speaker 2: which is our savior and our God. It puts a
- 6:46Speaker 2: different perspective on yourself when you see the frailties of life,
- 6:52Speaker 2: when you see the frailties of man's most amazing accomplishments,
- 6:57Speaker 2: building a skyscraper is one of them.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Man, look at that building I built. Look how tall
- 7:03Speaker 3: that building is that I built.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Look how strong and how solid the base is and
- 7:09Speaker 2: the foundation, and look how far it goes.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Up into the sky.
- 7:12Speaker 2: And just look at what an amazing thing I've done.
- 7:15Speaker 2: And friend, apart from God's good grace, that's just one
- 7:19Speaker 2: breath away from just buckling right into itself. The building
- 7:24Speaker 2: was leaning, I guess at one point. It's said to
- 7:28Speaker 2: be possibly on the verge of collapse. People have been
- 7:32Speaker 2: taken out, and they're evacuating portions of Midtown. If you
- 7:38Speaker 2: live in a building next to the old Pfizer building,
- 7:43Speaker 2: you very well might not have an apartment to go
- 7:46Speaker 2: home to tonight just because of the evacuations. So it'll
- 7:52Speaker 2: be interesting to see and exactly how long they'll need
- 7:56Speaker 2: to make these repairs and so forth, if they if
- 7:59Speaker 2: they even can, you know, they may have to just
- 8:01Speaker 2: I don't know what, take it down. So that's that's
- 8:06Speaker 2: not that's not great.
- 8:08Speaker 3: There's others.
- 8:08Speaker 2: There's some other big news that we're going to get
- 8:10Speaker 2: to throughout the show today, and we've also got a
- 8:13Speaker 2: very special set of guests. We are going to speak
- 8:18Speaker 2: with Zachary Marshall from Campus Reform.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Later this hour.
- 8:22Speaker 2: There's there's a new push to maybe turn a four
- 8:26Speaker 2: year bachelor's degree into only three years and getting it
- 8:29Speaker 2: done quicker. What it would save students by way of enrollment,
- 8:34Speaker 2: costs and everything else is enormous, So we'll talk with
- 8:37Speaker 2: them about that. We've got Katie McFarland who's going to
- 8:40Speaker 2: give us the very latest on the NATO summit that's
- 8:43Speaker 2: going on. President Trump is there, he doesn't want to
- 8:46Speaker 2: be what is he going to say? How's it going
- 8:48Speaker 2: to go? We'll ask Katie McFarlane and then a little
- 8:51Speaker 2: bit later on Mike Gonzales from the Heritage Foundation. A
- 8:54Speaker 2: brand new report called the Smithsonian Report has been released,
- 8:59Speaker 2: and it's demonstrating all of the ways that the curators
- 9:03Speaker 2: at the Smithsonian, which is a public museum, have twisted
- 9:08Speaker 2: the narrative to turn America into a woke piece of garbage.
- 9:13Speaker 2: And I don't I'm not overstating that that's all straight
- 9:16Speaker 2: ahead plus doctor Joel Grossi's going to join me once
- 9:19Speaker 2: again for how do we live? When we come back
- 9:20Speaker 2: from this break, as we are looking at Matthew chapter
- 9:24Speaker 2: eleven and Jesus's remarkable statement saying the Gospel will be
- 9:29Speaker 2: heard by the poor. That may not sound super profound
- 9:36Speaker 2: or intriguing, but yesterday we kind of dug into a
- 9:39Speaker 2: little bit as to why.
- 9:41Speaker 3: And we're going to take that.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Discussion one more layer today because it's worth having and
- 9:46Speaker 2: we want to answer the question how do we live?
- 9:48Speaker 2: How do we live in a culture that really has
- 9:51Speaker 2: no use for us or our faith? Does that change
- 9:54Speaker 2: what our assignment is?
- 9:55Speaker 3: I don't think so. Coming up next, it's that Kevin Show,
- 9:58Speaker 3: that kevinshow dot Com from New York. It's Radio night
- 10:06Speaker 3: Life with Kevin McCullough.

- 10:44Speaker 2: I'm reading in Travel and Leisure that a group has
- 10:51Speaker 2: come up with the world's first gluten free cruise. Now,
- 10:58Speaker 2: I have spent some time with some relatives and others
- 11:03Speaker 2: who need to be gluten free for health reasons, or
- 11:07Speaker 2: so they say, and so they tell me, and I
- 11:09Speaker 2: guess I'm going to believe them. Maybe I'm not because
- 11:12Speaker 2: I'm a curmudgeeny, mean old guy, but I'm just curious.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Do you think, because you know the cruise space much
- 11:21Speaker 2: better than I do, do you think that this is
- 11:25Speaker 2: a a barn burner of a winner financially for whatever,
- 11:32Speaker 2: For whatever group's going to adopt it. I guess it's
- 11:34Speaker 2: oceanic cruises, but they're going to have the Seliac Cruise,
- 11:38Speaker 2: which just the name itself makes me just want to
- 11:40Speaker 2: go right, Oh yes, please let me get on.
- 11:43Speaker 3: A cruise titled Celiac.
- 11:46Speaker 2: But it's going to be a gluten free ocean cruise
- 11:49Speaker 2: in twenty twenty eight. I guess it's only going to
- 11:51Speaker 2: be the one cruise.
- 11:52Speaker 3: But I don't know. I think they're going to have
- 11:55Speaker 3: a hard time selling this out.
- 11:58Speaker 4: I think you're wrong, Okay, I think and I hate
- 12:01Speaker 4: to say that, Kevin.
- 12:02Speaker 5: I do.
- 12:04Speaker 4: Listen so many people out there, including two my two
- 12:08Speaker 4: first cousins, and I was shocked because we come from
- 12:11Speaker 4: a very hearty Italian background with like no inbreeding, like no, there's.
- 12:16Speaker 3: No no mother.
- 12:18Speaker 4: No, I mean, there's no other breeds in there is
- 12:21Speaker 4: what I'm what I meant to say.
- 12:23Speaker 5: That's all I mean, immigrants everything.
- 12:26Speaker 4: So I mean the Italians apparently they have a big
- 12:30Speaker 4: celiac problem.
- 12:31Speaker 5: Maybe it's coming from all the semolina.
- 12:33Speaker 4: I don't know, but I don't have that problem now
- 12:36Speaker 4: dealing with my cousins who are first cousins.
- 12:39Speaker 5: I hear how difficult it is.
- 12:40Speaker 4: We have a friend whose little girl just developed siliac. So,
- 12:45Speaker 4: but that being said, Kevin, for you and me, like
- 12:49Speaker 4: this is a new thing to me, celiac Like what
- 12:52Speaker 4: I mean, you're gluten free like to me, and all
- 12:55Speaker 4: the stuff is disgusting, It's gross.
- 12:58Speaker 5: I've had it.
- 12:59Speaker 4: I can't even I have to cook gluten free pasta
- 13:02Speaker 4: on Christmas Eve. For my cousins, it's like giving somebody
- 13:07Speaker 4: like playto.
- 13:09Speaker 3: It, like dish.
- 13:11Speaker 4: It's like disgusting, and I'm like, I can't even I
- 13:16Speaker 4: throw it out, Like if there's leftovers, I throw it.
- 13:18Speaker 5: No one's gonna eat it. My husband is not going
- 13:20Speaker 5: to eat that.
- 13:21Speaker 4: But there are so many people Kevin with this diagnosis
- 13:26Speaker 4: that have a very difficult time going on vacation. If
- 13:30Speaker 4: you read the piece, going on vacation anywhere to find
- 13:36Speaker 4: gluten free food. So you either have to find a
- 13:38Speaker 4: gluten free restaurant, right or you have to remember what
- 13:41Speaker 4: you can eat and not eat. Now, this will solve
- 13:45Speaker 4: that problem because everything you're eating is that lovely, delicious
- 13:51Speaker 4: gluten free recipe that we've all been craving.
- 13:55Speaker 5: Not However, it.
- 13:59Speaker 4: Makes cit easier for them, and that's that I'm telling you.
- 14:02Speaker 4: It's gonna work well.
- 14:03Speaker 3: And that's that's what we are.
- 14:05Speaker 2: We're always about, right, It's always about ease and convenience
- 14:08Speaker 2: and being lazy basically.
- 14:10Speaker 3: But when I've when I've and we've got on my.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Bride side, we have an extended second cousin I think,
- 14:16Speaker 2: who has had a serious coeliac condition for years but
- 14:22Speaker 2: it's like, really, Celiac, Like it's really because there's there's
- 14:25Speaker 2: people that are saying, well, I have to be gluten free,
- 14:28Speaker 2: and I'm like, did you get a diagnotic? No, I
- 14:30Speaker 2: just decided to cut it out, and I decided that
- 14:32Speaker 2: I felt better.
- 14:33Speaker 5: Yeah, no, no, no, not You're not coeliac.
- 14:36Speaker 2: You're just choosing to be gluten free, which is fine.
- 14:39Speaker 2: But you know, here's the amazing thing about people that
- 14:42Speaker 2: need to be gluten free. Have we stopped eating like
- 14:46Speaker 2: clean proteins and nice salads and vegetables that don't have
- 14:51Speaker 2: any type of flour in it? Like since do we
- 14:55Speaker 2: have to have deep fried something or other to go
- 14:57Speaker 2: on the side of the hamburger with the huge bond
- 15:00Speaker 2: or whatever. Like I just I've always thought that if
- 15:04Speaker 2: you're gluten free, you actually have an easier time eating
- 15:07Speaker 2: in public than like my orthodox Jewish friends do.
- 15:10Speaker 5: Well, that's it too. Now here's the other thing too.
- 15:13Speaker 4: I think when you're talking kosher, right, anybody that eats
- 15:19Speaker 4: kosher food, I would say ninety eight percent of the
- 15:22Speaker 4: Jewish population that does eat kosher has been doing this
- 15:25Speaker 4: since birth, So they.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Are they get used, terry.
- 15:28Speaker 4: Accustomed to how they can modify where they can eat,
- 15:32Speaker 4: what they can eat, what to order before they go
- 15:34Speaker 4: on a plane. One of the best stories I have
- 15:38Speaker 4: is our vip of vip Our VP. Deana was upset
- 15:42Speaker 4: with my brother and she travels with him, which is
- 15:44Speaker 4: very easy to do Kevin and.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Easy to travel or easy to be upset with him.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Wait a minute, none of my business, keep going, please, So.
- 15:53Speaker 4: They were getting on the plane to Italy and she
- 15:55Speaker 4: was traveling with him to Italy and she ordered him
- 15:58Speaker 4: a kosher me oh Amy isn't first class, and they
- 16:03Speaker 4: bring him the kosher meal in the foil and he goes,
- 16:06Speaker 4: what is this.
- 16:07Speaker 5: She's like, you deserve that.
- 16:11Speaker 3: She did it as a joke.
- 16:13Speaker 4: Oh yes, because she wanted to get the screws into him.
- 16:17Speaker 4: But it's a great story because she had to pre
- 16:20Speaker 4: order the kosher meal, which is what you know, our
- 16:23Speaker 4: Jewish friends are used to doing before they travel.
- 16:26Speaker 5: They'll do it on a cruise ship.
- 16:28Speaker 4: And most of them, though, however, will know where to travel,
- 16:33Speaker 4: who's the best airline for that, or who's the best
- 16:36Speaker 4: cruise line to make accommodations, which I think is different
- 16:40Speaker 4: than the gluten free because if I was gluten free,
- 16:43Speaker 4: and you and I took a trip today, for example,
- 16:46Speaker 4: we will either find a gluten free bakery, a gluten
- 16:49Speaker 4: free restaurant somewhere right because now we can do that,
- 16:51Speaker 4: Thank you chat GPT, or you make accommodations for what
- 16:56Speaker 4: you're eating. Eat it's on a protein protein protein protein.
- 17:00Speaker 4: Potatoes have no better for you. I don't think rice.
- 17:03Speaker 5: I don't think rice has any gluten.
- 17:04Speaker 3: No, it's just wheat. It's just wheat, right, So you know,
- 17:09Speaker 3: so you.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Could have potatoes, you could have rice, you could have
- 17:13Speaker 2: pasta that wasn't wheat based. But yeah, you know, again,
- 17:17Speaker 2: who wants to eat some of that stuff? I mean
- 17:20Speaker 2: I love rice and potatoes and those types of things.
- 17:22Speaker 2: I actually think I do too, you know, sometimes I
- 17:25Speaker 2: prefer them to other things. Although I will tell you
- 17:27Speaker 2: last night, and if you're gluten free and you're listening,
- 17:30Speaker 2: I'm sorry this is just going.
- 17:31Speaker 3: To totally wig you out.
- 17:32Speaker 2: But I had that meeting in midtown and I was
- 17:35Speaker 2: trying to get back to the to the McCullum manor.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Last night.
- 17:41Speaker 2: My bride keeps teasing me, she keeps sending me a
- 17:44Speaker 2: text and she's like, I'm working on dinner. I've just
- 17:47Speaker 2: made it. It's the best carbonara you're ever going to
- 17:50Speaker 2: put in your mouth. When I got home, it was
- 17:53Speaker 2: she was not lying, she was telling the truth. It
- 17:56Speaker 2: was amazing and I had two servings of it and
- 17:59Speaker 2: I didn't need either one of them, but it was
- 18:02Speaker 2: really really good. All right, So you'll want to be
- 18:04Speaker 2: part of the Celiac cruise. And evidently this isn't the
- 18:07Speaker 2: first time they did one. In twenty twenty with Royal Caribbean,
- 18:12Speaker 2: I got all five hundred guest spots and they've offered
- 18:17Speaker 2: thirty cruises through Royal Caribbean and Ama Waterways and Oceania
- 18:22Speaker 2: over the years. But this year they're doing it, or
- 18:24Speaker 2: in twenty twenty eight, they're.
- 18:25Speaker 4: Doing twenty twenty eight, which I want to point out
- 18:27Speaker 4: Kevin is allowing them a lot of preparation, so it's
- 18:32Speaker 4: also allowing them a lot of booking time. Right, so
- 18:35Speaker 4: if they get this out now like they did, they
- 18:38Speaker 4: might be able to fill up this ship.
- 18:39Speaker 2: It's kind of a strange. It's two years away summer cruise,
- 18:43Speaker 2: but it's England, Ireland and Scotland. Like when I think
- 18:47Speaker 2: I think of.
- 18:47Speaker 5: The Caribbean, I think, yeah, I do two, but not
- 18:50Speaker 5: in the summer.
- 18:51Speaker 4: So in the summer it's a big time to cruise
- 18:54Speaker 4: Europe because it's warmer, and especially in those places England,
- 18:58Speaker 4: Ireland and Scotland.
- 18:59Speaker 5: You're not cruising in January.
- 19:03Speaker 3: All right, let's take a break. She's Linda, I'm Kevin.
- 19:05Speaker 3: We're coming right back.
- 19:06Speaker 1: It's Travel Night, and now from New York back to
- 19:15Speaker 1: Radio night Life.
- 19:16Speaker 3: Yours Kevin would color welcome back. She's Linda, I'm Kevin.
- 19:19Speaker 3: It's Travel Night. It's Radio night Live.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Follow along when we're not on the air at that
- 19:25Speaker 2: passport life dot Com sign up for the newsletter Get
- 19:27Speaker 2: our Thoughts. I saw this headline Linda, and I'm thinking,
- 19:32Speaker 2: I don't know if I agree with this. The surprising
- 19:34Speaker 2: travel habit that helps couples get along. Having dedicated alone
- 19:39Speaker 2: time on a shared vacation reduces tension and improves overall enjoyment.
- 19:43Speaker 2: At recent US survey shows most travelers prefer a few
- 19:45Speaker 2: hours of personal space each day, which helps them feel
- 19:48Speaker 2: more connected to their companions despite differing travel styles. That's
- 19:53Speaker 2: true until she finds him at the bar talking to
- 19:56Speaker 2: the seventeen year old, like that's.
- 19:58Speaker 5: That's coming up the end of the show, isn't it
- 20:01Speaker 5: can what?
- 20:03Speaker 2: But like, I'm sorry if you're going, if you're spending
- 20:06Speaker 2: money now, it's one thing if your marriage is already
- 20:10Speaker 2: just kind of like, well, we're just kind of associates
- 20:13Speaker 2: and we just kind of do stuff for each other.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Bill and Hillary Clinton.
- 20:16Speaker 2: If you're Bill and Hillary Clinton, I understand that you
- 20:18Speaker 2: probably want to spend most of the vacation separate from
- 20:21Speaker 2: each other. But there's a reason because she doesn't want
- 20:26Speaker 2: to spend time with her. He wants to go find
- 20:29Speaker 2: the next thing. I want to think with like how
- 20:32Speaker 2: I feel about my bride. Do I want to you know,
- 20:37Speaker 2: stifle her in terms of her time and like never
- 20:39Speaker 2: give her a fright No, Like if she wants to
- 20:41Speaker 2: take the afternoon and read a book and lay out
- 20:43Speaker 2: by the pool, or you know, just chill in the cab,
- 20:45Speaker 2: whatever she wants to, that's fine. I can go find
- 20:47Speaker 2: something to do for a little while. I don't understand
- 20:50Speaker 2: people that want to travel together that don't like each other,
- 20:53Speaker 2: they don't want, you know, enjoy each other's company.
- 20:55Speaker 5: Well, they haven't gotten the divorce yet, that's what's going
- 20:57Speaker 5: on there.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Like that probably they may be process, but the snap.
- 21:01Speaker 4: Anyway, those people should be divorced, forget the vacation, spend
- 21:07Speaker 4: the money.
- 21:07Speaker 5: On a lawyer.
- 21:09Speaker 2: So, by the way, Linda is not licensed to give
- 21:11Speaker 2: marriage advice. And we're not encouraging anybody divorces.
- 21:15Speaker 4: No, no, no, no, I don't want to give marriage advice,
- 21:17Speaker 4: trust me. So here's the thing, and I think again, Kevin,
- 21:22Speaker 4: we have to look at the human factor.
- 21:23Speaker 5: It sounds really good.
- 21:25Speaker 4: Oh honey, we want to spend some quality time together, Yes,
- 21:29Speaker 4: and you should. But close quarters, hotel, room, cruise, you know,
- 21:36Speaker 4: cabin very different from your day to day where you
- 21:40Speaker 4: probably have breaks, even if your spouse works at home
- 21:43Speaker 4: or This piece points out that this couple that they're referring.
- 21:47Speaker 5: To has offices that are adjacent.
- 21:49Speaker 4: To each other or whatever, very different than being on
- 21:52Speaker 4: top of each other for let's just say seven days.
- 21:56Speaker 5: Right.
- 21:57Speaker 4: Part of a good relationship in general is the independence.
- 22:00Speaker 4: Is the separation, is the time to go and do
- 22:05Speaker 4: your own thing, even if it's away from your kids, Kevin,
- 22:08Speaker 4: hate to say it, away from your spouse.
- 22:10Speaker 3: Oh, I would love some independence from the kids.
- 22:12Speaker 2: I'm not against that part of it. I would love
- 22:14Speaker 2: the independence from the kids. I'm not against that part
- 22:16Speaker 2: of it. To get to get some quiet time with
- 22:19Speaker 2: the bride. That would be fun.
- 22:21Speaker 4: So I do feel that in general, this is the
- 22:25Speaker 4: right thing to do. You know, honey, I want to
- 22:27Speaker 4: go shopping this afternoon, like by myself and just then.
- 22:31Speaker 4: You know, men are not great shoppers. They follow the women,
- 22:34Speaker 4: they carry the bags. They're annoying.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Oh tell who told you that?
- 22:38Speaker 5: I didn't.
- 22:39Speaker 4: No one had to tell me anything, Kevin, I am
- 22:41Speaker 4: a lifelong shopper.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Shopper, there you are.
- 22:45Speaker 5: Yeah, there's a reason they have.
- 22:46Speaker 3: But that's why. That's why Patrick goes hunting, because he
- 22:49Speaker 3: knows you won't go shopping.
- 22:51Speaker 4: No, he's a shopper, and he's an annoying shopper.
- 22:56Speaker 5: You know.
- 22:56Speaker 4: There's a reason why they have those couches in the
- 22:59Speaker 4: mall for things like this.
- 23:01Speaker 5: Like, no, just don't even bring him.
- 23:03Speaker 3: I don't.
- 23:04Speaker 2: I'm guilty of having sat on those couches a few times.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Well, because that's.
- 23:08Speaker 5: Why they're there. Don't even bring them. So the same
- 23:10Speaker 5: thing carries over into this. It's an extension.
- 23:13Speaker 4: So you take an hour or two for yourself when
- 23:15Speaker 4: you come back, and you like each other more.
- 23:17Speaker 5: I mean, I think it's a great philosophy.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Well, I will tell you there's some truth to what
- 23:23Speaker 2: you're saying, because when we were in Italy last year,
- 23:27Speaker 2: we you know, and we tried to scatter the events.
- 23:31Speaker 2: So we had a boat day and then we had
- 23:33Speaker 2: like a chill day. We had a you know, a
- 23:35Speaker 2: walk around town day, and then like and then another
- 23:38Speaker 2: boat day. We got to the end of the trip
- 23:41Speaker 2: and we just kind of had like a chill day
- 23:44Speaker 2: and the kids were like, I want to go to
- 23:46Speaker 2: the pool, and my bride was like, I want to
- 23:49Speaker 2: go shopping, because yeah, we had been there for a
- 23:53Speaker 2: week and we hadn't really spent any time in any
- 23:56Speaker 2: of the stores because the kids, if you think men
- 23:59Speaker 2: are bad shops, take kids with you everywhere, Like there,
- 24:02Speaker 2: why do we.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Have to be here? Where do we dine? We go
- 24:05Speaker 3: back to the cabin.
- 24:07Speaker 2: And so I said, well, why don't we do this,
- 24:09Speaker 2: Why don't you just go into town and just spend
- 24:13Speaker 2: the afternoon or morning or whatever you want to spend
- 24:16Speaker 2: and just you know, do it, and I'll take them
- 24:18Speaker 2: to the pool. And then and she came back with
- 24:22Speaker 2: you know, her chotchkeys and things she got and things
- 24:24Speaker 2: she was excited about.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Sending back home and stuff.
- 24:27Speaker 2: She had had a little you know, iced coffee, and
- 24:29Speaker 2: she'd done her thing and took some pictures and send.
- 24:32Speaker 3: Them to me while she was out.
- 24:33Speaker 2: And then when we got back, it was like she
- 24:35Speaker 2: was she was excited to tell me about her day
- 24:37Speaker 2: and her morning and what it had said. And it's
- 24:39Speaker 2: like we actually used the time apart to then make
- 24:43Speaker 2: it the subject of how we reconnected when we got
- 24:45Speaker 2: back to and she she got back in time to
- 24:47Speaker 2: like have lunch with us, you know, on the veranda
- 24:49Speaker 2: of our hotel. So it was all kind of it worked.
- 24:52Speaker 2: It was all kind of cool.
- 24:55Speaker 5: Yeah, and it does work.
- 24:56Speaker 4: And I think again it's just an extension a philosophy
- 25:01Speaker 4: that we all do need that space, even if it's
- 25:04Speaker 4: on vacation.
- 25:05Speaker 3: We need a little bit of time to our service.
- 25:07Speaker 3: All right, stay with us. She's Lynda, I'm Kevin. We're
- 25:10Speaker 3: coming right back.
- 25:15Speaker 5: What a little moonline can do.
- 25:16Speaker 3: It's radio night life, yours Kevin mccollor, All right, welcome back.
- 25:21Speaker 3: It's travel night.
- 25:23Speaker 2: If you if you have taken a look at airline
- 25:26Speaker 2: prices in recent days and you're you're going, what what
- 25:31Speaker 2: the what is going on? We finally have some official
- 25:35Speaker 2: news that explains it all. I don't know if you
- 25:38Speaker 2: saw this, Linda. Travel Pulse by north Star produced a
- 25:44Speaker 2: story yesterday twenty twenty six airline profits slashed in half.
- 25:51Speaker 3: Guess why? A few cost of jet fuel.
- 25:56Speaker 2: And we, you know, we we've we felt that a
- 26:00Speaker 2: little bit here at the show because we've had to
- 26:04Speaker 2: officially cancel our trip to Italy as we just didn't
- 26:08Speaker 2: have enough people signed up yet. We were getting close,
- 26:10Speaker 2: but the problem was that what we were hearing from
- 26:13Speaker 2: a lot of people is that airline tickets were getting
- 26:17Speaker 2: more and more expensive. And I don't know, Linda, how
- 26:20Speaker 2: you deal with that, but I just can't. And just
- 26:25Speaker 2: a few weeks ago, my bride had a family wedding
- 26:28Speaker 2: and we had originally intended to take all five of
- 26:33Speaker 2: us together to go to the wedding. We had originally
- 26:36Speaker 2: intended for all of us to be there and to celebrate,
- 26:39Speaker 2: and the tickets were so outrageous. I was only able
- 26:44Speaker 2: to send her and we were barely able to do
- 26:46Speaker 2: that to our budget because of the thing and what
- 26:50Speaker 2: you know, two years ago, I could have bought for
- 26:52Speaker 2: everyone in the family at like four or five hundred
- 26:55Speaker 2: dollars round trip. Hers was alone over nine hundred dollars
- 26:59Speaker 2: with tax is there everything. So it was like, oh
- 27:02Speaker 2: my gosh, uh And I can't imagine how that's impacting
- 27:06Speaker 2: the stuff going overseas. Have you talked to people that
- 27:10Speaker 2: are you know, normally traveling and have they given you
- 27:13Speaker 2: any indication that you know, this year is a lot
- 27:16Speaker 2: worse because of that, because this is what the war.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Is creating for everybody. It's creating I know.
- 27:22Speaker 4: So, I mean, I have a friend that just went
- 27:23Speaker 4: to Italy and she was concerned about the prices. But
- 27:25Speaker 4: you know the thing is she had already paid for
- 27:27Speaker 4: her ticket and she was already scheduled to go and
- 27:30Speaker 4: wanted to go. And you and I have had this
- 27:32Speaker 4: discussion before that, you know, is what you want to do, Kevin,
- 27:35Speaker 4: and what you don't want to do. You know, if
- 27:37Speaker 4: you really want to travel, you got that family vacation
- 27:40Speaker 4: that that's all, you know, suited up and ready to go,
- 27:44Speaker 4: then you're probably going to go and you're probably going
- 27:47Speaker 4: to say, Okay, I'm going to eat the thousand dollars
- 27:50Speaker 4: or whatever the heck it is. Unfortunately, and then again,
- 27:54Speaker 4: how much are these prices going up?
- 27:56Speaker 5: Right, are they going up.
- 27:57Speaker 3: In listen to this.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Due to the inside Cook, a collective one hundred billion
- 28:03Speaker 2: dollars in fuel costs will be added to the to
- 28:06Speaker 2: the carriers in twenty twenty six. So one hundred billion
- 28:10Speaker 2: in the you add up all the airlines and all
- 28:13Speaker 2: the flights that they're flying, one hundred billion is going
- 28:15Speaker 2: to be added to costs.
- 28:16Speaker 3: You know that they're not going to just add the cost.
- 28:18Speaker 2: They're going to add a little bit of the percentage
- 28:20Speaker 2: plus the cost because they need to make a little
- 28:22Speaker 2: bit of money. But that I can't imagine that that's
- 28:25Speaker 2: going to have anything, oh seventy percent higher year over
- 28:28Speaker 2: year due to the Iran war.
- 28:31Speaker 4: Yes, and that's you know, this is what they're saying now, Kevin.
- 28:35Speaker 4: And there's always some drama, right. If there's no drama,
- 28:38Speaker 4: there's no news. That's the problem. So this is the
- 28:41Speaker 4: focus now, because you know, when you and I go
- 28:43Speaker 4: to do stories, right, I have to peruse the internet
- 28:47Speaker 4: and I do and.
- 28:49Speaker 5: I look for stuff.
- 28:50Speaker 4: You know, there's some weeks that I have to like
- 28:52Speaker 4: pull stuff out of my ear to get a piece
- 28:55Speaker 4: for us to talk about. Because everything has been relatively calm,
- 28:59Speaker 4: so you know, they're going to springboard on this fuel
- 29:02Speaker 4: thing because it's financial and most people are hit financially
- 29:06Speaker 4: when it comes to traveling. People consider finances, right, So
- 29:11Speaker 4: this is a topic that allows for a little bit
- 29:14Speaker 4: of drama in the travel industry. It's happened before. It
- 29:17Speaker 4: has not been true before. COVID happened before. You know,
- 29:22Speaker 4: fuel increases have happened before because of other wars, because
- 29:27Speaker 4: of other things, but over time historically, so this is
- 29:30Speaker 4: not a shocker or an anomaly, to be quite honest
- 29:34Speaker 4: with you. But again it's a piece to be able
- 29:37Speaker 4: to have, you know, some banter about and say, oh, are.
- 29:40Speaker 5: You going to travel because your airfare went up? Now
- 29:42Speaker 5: that I'm putting it, I don't thinking.
- 29:44Speaker 3: Lights on my legs though, I don't think that they're not.
- 29:47Speaker 5: No, no, no, they're not saying.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Another comment from the president of the IATA, and he's
- 29:53Speaker 2: saying that the average profits for.
- 29:56Speaker 3: The aline industry, you know.
- 29:58Speaker 2: From forty five billion last year to twenty three billion.
- 30:01Speaker 2: That's the profits that they're going to have that they're anticipating. Well,
- 30:04Speaker 2: if you add one hundred billion dollars into your operating
- 30:07Speaker 2: cost and you were only projecting twenty three billion in
- 30:10Speaker 2: profits to begin with.
- 30:12Speaker 3: That's bad. None of us would operate a company like that.
- 30:16Speaker 5: No, you can't. But again, you know, the industry goes
- 30:19Speaker 5: back and forth.
- 30:20Speaker 3: You know, travel and you think you think they're fibbing
- 30:23Speaker 3: to us.
- 30:24Speaker 5: I don't think they're fibbing.
- 30:25Speaker 4: I think that they are kind of like hedging is
- 30:29Speaker 4: what they're doing. They're like, well, this is going to happen,
- 30:31Speaker 4: and either you pay it or you don't travel, and
- 30:33Speaker 4: that's it, and there's no bargaining and there's no you know,
- 30:36Speaker 4: you want to go. We got a war going on,
- 30:39Speaker 4: and I do feel Kevin and I know that, thank god,
- 30:43Speaker 4: this is conservative talk. I do think that these fuel
- 30:46Speaker 4: costs are a dig at our president because of the
- 30:50Speaker 4: Iran war. When you're not going to get your head
- 30:54Speaker 4: blown off and your children are safe. So yeah, let's
- 30:57Speaker 4: look at that portion of the program. Even if you
- 30:59Speaker 4: have to pay extra for fuel, temporarily, those fuel prices
- 31:04Speaker 4: are going to drop. And you know what, governors of
- 31:07Speaker 4: these states here, drop your state taxes so that the
- 31:11Speaker 4: federal tax will come down, and you're going to see
- 31:14Speaker 4: a complete decrease in that fuel.
- 31:16Speaker 5: Just where you are.
- 31:17Speaker 4: You can take your road trip you can go wherever
- 31:19Speaker 4: the heck you want, throw your kids in the car
- 31:21Speaker 4: and go somewhere. So let's not just put blame on
- 31:25Speaker 4: the president. There's a lot of blame I think here
- 31:30Speaker 4: right now, and it will subside because it always does.
- 31:33Speaker 6: Right, So say it the Linda Well and in summertime,
- 31:38Speaker 6: and it's and it's summertime, and this is when they
- 31:41Speaker 6: love to get their teeth into the gas prices.
- 31:44Speaker 5: It's every year we discuss this, just like triple A.
- 31:47Speaker 4: Oh g, it's the most crowded it's ever been a
- 31:50Speaker 4: Memorial Day, and then you know what Labor Day, it's the.
- 31:53Speaker 3: Most crowded, busiest.
- 31:58Speaker 5: Oh look at the air or shocker.
- 32:02Speaker 3: I agree with you on some level.
- 32:04Speaker 2: I think, especially for local news, they need filler sometimes
- 32:07Speaker 2: around those holidays. So what's what's an easy what's an
- 32:10Speaker 2: easy stand up four minute piece for the six pm?
- 32:12Speaker 2: Send somebody to the airport and wait outside of the criminal.
- 32:16Speaker 4: Yeah, a terminal, I mean just like whatever, Okay, you're shocking.
- 32:19Speaker 4: I've never seen this before.
- 32:21Speaker 5: Go on, honey, look at the TV. What is this like?
- 32:24Speaker 2: I can't well, when we come back a little bit
- 32:26Speaker 2: of a serious note, but also something practical to discuss
- 32:30Speaker 2: in Perilla's pointers tonight, as we want you to stay
- 32:32Speaker 2: safe on your cruises, and there may be a very
- 32:36Speaker 2: important lessener too that Linda might have for you. She's
- 32:39Speaker 2: done a little bit to stick around. That's coming when
- 32:42Speaker 2: we come back Radio night Live Travel Tuesday.
- 32:44Speaker 3: I'm going to.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Once again from New York. Here's Radio Night Life and
- 32:53Speaker 1: Kevin mccullor.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Welcome back. It's the final few minutes of Travel Tuesday.
- 32:58Speaker 2: She's Londo Perilla, I'm color Linda. Always good to have
- 33:02Speaker 2: you with us. That we were talking about cruising earlier
- 33:06Speaker 2: in the show, and you know, all the things associated
- 33:09Speaker 2: with it, and we talked about people wanting independence from
- 33:12Speaker 2: each other. But again I go back to the Bill
- 33:15Speaker 2: Clinton kind of stereotype. Some people want independence because they
- 33:19Speaker 2: just don't like the person that they're with and they
- 33:21Speaker 2: don't want to be they don't want to be around them,
- 33:23Speaker 2: and evidently that can also land you in jail. According
- 33:28Speaker 2: to the USA Today dot Com on a travel story
- 33:31Speaker 2: that involved a cruise and a teenager and a man.
- 33:37Speaker 2: So I'm curious because you have a lot of kids,
- 33:40Speaker 2: you've traveled, You've got young ladies. You want them to
- 33:42Speaker 2: grow up and be safe and protected. And you like cruises,
- 33:45Speaker 2: of course, what type of things do you teach them about,
- 33:51Speaker 2: because even on a cruise you're still kind of limited
- 33:54Speaker 2: in terms of like your space and able to.
- 33:56Speaker 3: You know, flee.
- 33:57Speaker 5: Yeah, you are. Well, here's the other thing.
- 34:00Speaker 4: And I'm sure, I am sure that Gloria Steinem and
- 34:03Speaker 4: the bra burners are going to fling their bras at
- 34:05Speaker 4: me for this comment. It's the Harvey Weinstein like a syndrome. Okay,
- 34:13Speaker 4: don't give a message. Don't be in a place you
- 34:18Speaker 4: should not be with some man. Okay, I'm using man
- 34:24Speaker 4: loosely here because it could be anybody of any sex,
- 34:27Speaker 4: any gender, and then expect to run off and not
- 34:32Speaker 4: be partially to I hate to use the word blame.
- 34:35Speaker 4: I'm going to get in trouble for that too, A
- 34:38Speaker 4: participant in this scenario. And I tell my girls that
- 34:43Speaker 4: all the time.
- 34:44Speaker 5: Be smart.
- 34:45Speaker 4: I'm not going to say things can't happen arbitrarily, because
- 34:49Speaker 4: they can, all right. My daughter got roofied in Florence
- 34:54Speaker 4: in a place that she had been very familiar with,
- 34:58Speaker 4: and at a bar with some friends. I mean, things happen,
- 35:02Speaker 4: So you have to be smart. You have to walk
- 35:05Speaker 4: away from your drink, get another drink, get a drink.
- 35:08Speaker 5: Cover.
- 35:08Speaker 4: Don't be with somebody in an area that's close quarters
- 35:13Speaker 4: and there's nobody else around. Stay in public. And here's
- 35:16Speaker 4: another thing I always tell my kids. Never let anyone
- 35:21Speaker 4: here your room number. Never let anyone hear your room number.
- 35:27Speaker 4: And there's a reason why your state room cart or
- 35:31Speaker 4: your hotel key doesn't have.
- 35:33Speaker 5: It written on there.
- 35:34Speaker 4: If you drop that, someone's got access to getting into
- 35:37Speaker 4: your room, write it down on your phone, put it
- 35:39Speaker 4: in your notes, put it in some secret place. Usually
- 35:42Speaker 4: your phone is the best place to keep I always
- 35:45Speaker 4: forget in my room. Remember, but never have that information
- 35:48Speaker 4: out in public. Never you know, someone says your name.
