- 0:39SPEAKER_10: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk and Tech Podcast, powered by Guns Up Nation, part of the Guns Up Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:45SPEAKER_10: I'm your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host, Tristan McGonagall, and we have a third, very special guest joining us for UT Texas Tech Week.
- 0:55SPEAKER_10: He is a published author, he is a data statistician.
- 1:00SPEAKER_10: He is either the most beloved Twitter follow or the most hated Twitter follow you have.
- 1:06SPEAKER_10: He is Kyle Umblang.
- 1:08SPEAKER_10: Kyle, how are you doing today, man?
- 1:09SPEAKER_09: I am fantastic.
- 1:12SPEAKER_09: Could not be better.
- 1:14SPEAKER_10: Yeah, no doubt, man.
- 1:15SPEAKER_12: It's it's UT Tech Week.
- 1:16SPEAKER_09: Everybody's excited.
- 1:17SPEAKER_09: This is a big time.
- 1:23SPEAKER_09: I'm hoping this year will be better.
- 1:26SPEAKER_10: Yeah, we're hoping this year will be better as well.
- 1:29SPEAKER_09: It was uh yeah, I I fell for you guys last year.
- 1:32SPEAKER_09: I was like, like third, third quarter, fourth quarter.
- 1:34SPEAKER_09: I was like, man, those guys are gonna rip me good uh when this is over.
- 1:39SPEAKER_09: And then and then like I I like I like I think I went to the bathroom or something.
- 1:43SPEAKER_09: I came back and we're down by score.
- 1:45SPEAKER_09: I was like, what on earth just happened?
- 1:47SPEAKER_09: And then I was like, no way, there's no way, and then crazy craziness ensued, and it was the best night of my life until the following week, which was the worst.
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: So it was the most college football game I've ever seen.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: It was so college football, and especially if you're a tech fan, it's a feeling all too familiar, but man, it was a fun game uh for the most part.
- 2:10SPEAKER_02: But uh, I I I I I expect better results this this weekend, okay.
- 2:15SPEAKER_12: And why do you expect better results?
- 2:17SPEAKER_12: Because I oh oh I I just hope I just hope for better results.
- 2:22SPEAKER_02: I'm not expecting what do you know that I do not know?
- 2:27SPEAKER_02: I was about to say, what could I gank right out of this behind that he's putting me on the spot with?
- 2:32SPEAKER_02: So I was just like, Kyle, I'm gonna be praying.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: That's what it is.
- 2:35SPEAKER_10: Okay, yeah.
- 2:37SPEAKER_10: So so okay, Kyle, we wanted, we're gonna get into the game here.
- 2:40SPEAKER_10: We're gonna kind of preview it, see your thoughts on this year's team and the matchup and everything like that.
- 2:45SPEAKER_10: But we first off, we gotta start with something because uh since you were on the pod last time, some some big stuff has happened.
- 2:50SPEAKER_10: Uh, I I'd say Texas and uh your rival, Oklahoma, have decided to change conferences, um, moving over to the SEC.
- 3:00SPEAKER_10: Uh, whether it happens in 2025 or before that, it's gonna happen.
- 3:04SPEAKER_10: Y'all are leaving the Big 12.
- 3:05SPEAKER_10: What are your thoughts on the move?
- 3:10SPEAKER_09: I mean, I think it's great.
- 3:12SPEAKER_09: I mean, it's it's more money, hopefully better recruits, better matchups, better home schedule.
- 3:22SPEAKER_09: I mean, I think basketball won't be as good, but um baseball will be killer.
- 3:28SPEAKER_09: I mean, the Big 12's already good at baseball, but joining an an equally good conference, so I mean, I think it's just gonna be better for everything.
- 3:37SPEAKER_09: Um and I heard that we're gonna continue playing you guys in at least football.
- 3:42SPEAKER_09: So that's that's a big mistake that AM and Texas made back in the day.
- 3:47SPEAKER_09: We probably wouldn't even be in this boat of joining the SEC if if we were still playing them properly, or if the Big 12 had added the four school four schools they're adding like four years ago, we would we'd be in a m a mega conference instead of shifting everything around.
- 4:03SPEAKER_09: So um it it's it's like we're moving down the block.
- 4:08SPEAKER_09: We'll still we'll still wave and say hi and come play you guys.
- 4:11SPEAKER_10: And yeah, I mean, I wouldn't were you surprised by it when the when the news came out?
- 4:15SPEAKER_09: I was I was incredibly surprised.
- 4:17SPEAKER_09: I thought it was a rumor, I was like, this is this is not real, and then it just kept picking up and people kept tweeting it.
- 4:23SPEAKER_09: I was like, okay, I guess it maybe has some truth behind it, and then it finally got like an official account reporting it.
- 4:30SPEAKER_09: So like, oh, I had no idea.
- 4:33SPEAKER_09: And I and I thought I know I knew everything behind the scenes of stuff, so it was a big surprise to me.
- 4:38SPEAKER_09: Well, what about y'all?
- 4:40SPEAKER_09: Pissed off, angry, like how dare those guys!
- 4:43SPEAKER_10: I mean, there's there's been plenty of things that we could be pissed off at Texas about these days.
- 4:48SPEAKER_10: Uh, but uh for me, I mean, yeah, for me and Tristan Both and we talked about it when it initially happened, but uh yeah, it was just it was just kind of out of nowhere.
- 4:56SPEAKER_10: Uh, it's just kind of like you feel left behind, but then with the recent additions and everything like that, you know, we're kind of back up and and our spirits are lifted from that.
- 5:05SPEAKER_10: Because I think we're adding four really solid teams, actually making it the Big 12 again, you know, that's cool.
- 5:10SPEAKER_10: So it is gonna stink, you know, losing.
- 5:13SPEAKER_10: Well, hopefully we'll retain that Texas game, like you said.
- 5:15SPEAKER_10: Uh they're working on something 20, 25 year non-conference and football game with Texas.
- 5:21SPEAKER_10: But um, you know, it stinks losing the OU game in the Texas game, just from just from a fan's perspective, because we really enjoy those games, we enjoy the rivalry, everything like that.
- 5:30SPEAKER_10: So that that part of it bummed me out a little bit.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: Definitely jealous that y'all get to go play AM and stuff again.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: Um, the nice thing about it is we do get to kind of tease you saying that you've you're following little brother.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: You're uh you got jealous of uh the Aggies, man.
- 5:48SPEAKER_02: Like Aggie factory.
- 5:51SPEAKER_09: No, no, it is not, it is not jealousy.
- 5:55SPEAKER_09: It's like these guys won't answer our freaking calls.
- 5:58SPEAKER_09: We need our money.
- 6:00SPEAKER_09: Let's go break down the door instead of waiting for them to call us back.
- 6:03SPEAKER_09: So it's kind of like that.
- 6:05SPEAKER_09: Uh so I'm gonna um I'm gonna miss tech.
- 6:08SPEAKER_09: I love I love playing on every sport.
- 6:10SPEAKER_09: Uh, I mean, even though last year wasn't that great for you guys, uh, with like the 14-point lead that you lost with three months left in the game in the football game, or when the volleyball team swept you guys, or we could talk about well, we could talk about basketball and baseball too, in which we won the series.
- 6:28SPEAKER_09: Or when the uh no, you uh the men's basketball team, didn't y'all like no we we we almost advanced to the tournament championship, like one point or something like that?
- 6:38SPEAKER_10: It's it's it's true.
- 6:39SPEAKER_10: Y'all won the Big 12 conference or the Big 12 tournament.
- 6:43SPEAKER_10: Hey, it was our first one.
- 6:44SPEAKER_10: That's true.
- 6:45SPEAKER_10: I count it for something.
- 6:46SPEAKER_10: It's true.
- 6:46SPEAKER_13: Uh go Iowa state this, Kyle.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: Go Iowa state this.
- 6:50SPEAKER_09: You can't play with the Iowa State of the 2020 regular season champions.
- 6:55SPEAKER_09: Everyone knows that.
- 6:56SPEAKER_09: Football.
- 6:57SPEAKER_10: Okay, all right.
- 6:58SPEAKER_10: Whatever you say, Kyle.
- 7:00SPEAKER_10: No, but uh I would bring up baseball and how we won that series uh against you know a Texas team that was that was pretty good last year.
- 7:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah, uh tech came in, beat them.
- 7:09SPEAKER_10: But uh, you know, we could go back and forth all day on this.
- 7:11SPEAKER_10: Texas, Texas.
- 7:12SPEAKER_09: And that's why I love tech so much because y'all are good at random sports just like we are, and I I I love I love the rivalry.
- 7:19SPEAKER_09: So I really hope we can continue to play you guys and not just football, especially basketball.
- 7:24SPEAKER_09: That first game in Lubbock next year.
- 7:27SPEAKER_09: I I would you could not pay me to go to that game.
- 7:31SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah, uh, it's gonna be rowdy.
- 7:34SPEAKER_10: I mean, to say the least, that's gonna be a lot of fun.
- 7:35SPEAKER_10: Y'all are rowdy regardless.
- 7:37SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:38SPEAKER_09: I just, man, it's not gonna be fun.
- 7:42SPEAKER_10: It's not gonna be fun for one person individually.
- 7:45SPEAKER_10: Um he he who will not be named right now.
- 7:48SPEAKER_10: Um but uh but uh let's let's kind of let's kind of transition because we did we talked to you last time on the pod about uh the current coaching situation for the football team.
- 7:59SPEAKER_10: So you know, you were you were saying Herman is should be fine, everything should be fine uh with how last season went, everything like that.
- 8:06SPEAKER_10: And then all of a sudden, boom, he's out, Sarkeesian's in.
- 8:09SPEAKER_10: What was your thought process uh when that happened?
- 8:12SPEAKER_10: Were you were you surprised by that as well?
- 8:15SPEAKER_09: I mean, the writing was on the wall as soon as he lost Quentin Ewers.
- 8:20SPEAKER_09: I mean, I I was like, oh, well, that's not good.
- 8:22SPEAKER_09: It's uh there's only been two perfect score uh recruits on 247, Ewers and Vince Young, and Texas got them both.
- 8:32SPEAKER_09: And I tweeted that, I was like, this is a sweet, this is a great day.
- 8:34SPEAKER_09: And then when that happened, I was like, oh no, everything is falling apart.
- 8:38SPEAKER_09: And then he lost the um uh the two brothers that were um legacy recruits.
- 8:45SPEAKER_09: He somehow lost those to Alabama.
- 8:48SPEAKER_09: Don't know how that's possible, but he did it.
- 8:51SPEAKER_09: Um, and then we had we had TCU beat, and um the running back who just ran like an 80-yard play to get us to like the one-yard line, he let him carry the balls for some reason on a on a play that Sam Eller could have scored 10 out of 10 times.
- 9:12SPEAKER_09: Um and he fumbled it, lost the game.
- 9:16SPEAKER_09: Um played like crap against Oklahoma, even though we we've played them a thousand times, we've seen them play, we knew exactly what they were doing, and we did the opposite of what we're supposed to do.
- 9:27SPEAKER_09: Um, we had Iowa State beat early in the game.
- 9:32SPEAKER_09: I think we were up by score still with a few minutes left in the game.
- 9:36SPEAKER_09: And uh, we instead of punting it, we decided to go for it for no reason.
- 9:41SPEAKER_09: Gave them the ball back, gave them good field position.
- 9:43SPEAKER_09: They scored and won.
- 9:46SPEAKER_09: I mean, he he does not do well um if he's not like ahead by a lot of points.
- 9:52SPEAKER_09: So and he plays down to his competition, which I've never really understood.
- 9:55SPEAKER_09: So I knew it was coming.
- 9:57SPEAKER_09: I I was hoping it wouldn't because a starting over fresh staff, fresh everything, that it just sucks.
- 10:05SPEAKER_09: And there's no way you're gonna have like a like say you're gonna you were projected to get 10 wins.
- 10:10SPEAKER_09: There's no way you're gonna get 10 wins with a brand new staff.
- 10:13SPEAKER_09: Um, and it messes up recruiting.
- 10:15SPEAKER_09: Uh, we had a crappy recruiting class.
- 10:18SPEAKER_09: Um, I mean, I guess by Texas standards.
- 10:20SPEAKER_10: Uh I was about to say, I mean play wool.
- 10:23SPEAKER_10: Y'all haven't really sorry guys, sorry.
- 10:26SPEAKER_13: All right, Mr.
- 10:27SPEAKER_13: Ivory Tower over here.
- 10:28SPEAKER_09: And then um, and so I mean, I I was kind of against it just because you know, why mess with like he hasn't had a losing season yet?
- 10:37SPEAKER_09: We we fired the last guy for having like two or three in a row.
- 10:42SPEAKER_09: Um, so I I I thought it'd just be easier for everyone.
- 10:46SPEAKER_09: Give him one last shot.
- 10:47SPEAKER_09: It was a COVID year, you can't fire someone after a COVID year, and still got fired.
- 10:52SPEAKER_09: So, I mean, and then I I was kind of like back and forth on whether or not it's the best thing to do.
- 10:58SPEAKER_09: But then when I saw the coaching staff that got uh put in place, I was like, okay, I mean, I think we'll be fine.
- 11:04SPEAKER_09: Um, even if this year doesn't go as well as it would have gone under Herman, it's we'll still have a winning season, have a bunch of great things in the works for the next few seasons, so it'll be good.
- 11:17SPEAKER_09: And then like recruiting's taken off already back to where it was, so we haven't we didn't really lose any ground.
- 11:24SPEAKER_09: Um we're doing well, so yeah, I I I think we're great hands for the future.
- 11:29SPEAKER_09: I'm excited.
- 11:30SPEAKER_09: Um yeah, so I I think it was the right call.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: So you you think the Longhorns would be doing better right now if Perman was still at the helm, like in the current situation, rather than the news that not not on the first three games.
- 11:43SPEAKER_09: I still think we would have I think Louisiana would have been close, I think Arkansas would have been close, I think Rice would have been close.
- 11:51SPEAKER_09: He plays down to his competition, he plays up to his competition, he just plays his competition, he mirrors them.
- 11:56SPEAKER_09: That's his that's his coaching style.
- 11:58SPEAKER_09: Um, no, I'm saying I'm saying at the end of the season, say Sarg has eight wins.
- 12:03SPEAKER_09: I think Kerman could have had nine wins.
- 12:05SPEAKER_09: I don't know which game it would have been.
- 12:06SPEAKER_09: I think he had the right tools and the right experience to get us maybe one more win.
- 12:12SPEAKER_09: But when you think of all the other negative things that come with it, it's just not worth it.
- 12:16SPEAKER_09: I'd rather have one less win this year and be better next year.
- 12:19SPEAKER_10: So what's the win?
- 12:21SPEAKER_10: What's like the win count where y'all would be disappointed this season for Sark?
- 12:25SPEAKER_10: Isn't it like five, six wins?
- 12:27SPEAKER_10: What is yes?
- 12:28SPEAKER_09: If if we don't get Bolt eligible, it's it's all hell is broken loose.
- 12:33SPEAKER_09: People are gonna want it want him fired already.
- 12:35SPEAKER_09: It's gonna be crazy.
- 12:36SPEAKER_09: Um, eight wins is what ESPN's FPI put us at.
- 12:41SPEAKER_09: I at the beginning of the season, I thought that was fair.
- 12:43SPEAKER_09: Um, you know, the first two non-conference games, I thought we might lose one of those, didn't know which one.
- 12:49SPEAKER_09: I was thinking Louisiana, not Arkansas, but I was flipped.
- 12:53SPEAKER_09: Um the Oklahoma, uh TCU is always tough somehow.
- 12:58SPEAKER_09: Uh Kansas State looks great.
- 12:59SPEAKER_09: That's already right there.
- 13:00SPEAKER_09: Those that's four losses.
- 13:01SPEAKER_09: So I was like, yeah, that's fair.
- 13:03SPEAKER_09: Eight and four regular seasons, good good with me.
- 13:06SPEAKER_09: Um, if we did better, that's great.
- 13:09SPEAKER_09: If we don't, I don't want that to happen.
- 13:12SPEAKER_09: So eight is what I want.
- 13:14SPEAKER_09: Eight eight or more, I'll be happy.
- 13:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, eight eight for us is a great season right now.
- 13:18SPEAKER_02: Like we're looking for that right now as well.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: But uh well, you've already got three start.
- 13:23SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's true.
- 13:24SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I mean it's a it's a better start than we've had in a lot.
- 13:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: Weren't we expecting Steven?
- 13:29SPEAKER_02: Weren't we like or Kylie?
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: Probably know this.
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: I think we're like five and a half or four and a half either.
- 13:33SPEAKER_10: That was our our over-under was five and a half.
- 13:36SPEAKER_10: Uh okay.
- 13:36SPEAKER_10: We're already at three.
- 13:37SPEAKER_10: I mean, we still have Kansas on the schedule, you know, cross fingers, you know.
- 13:41SPEAKER_09: Yeah, Kansas is an easy fourth right there.
- 13:43SPEAKER_09: Yeah, should be, should be.
- 13:45SPEAKER_10: Uh should be.
- 13:47SPEAKER_12: But uh oh, yeah.
- 13:48SPEAKER_12: Didn't y'all lose like like two seasons ago to them or something?
- 13:51SPEAKER_11: Uh yeah, you know, the the what's this and there?
- 13:54SPEAKER_10: You know, I don't know what you're talking about.
- 13:55SPEAKER_11: What's two seasons ago, Kyle?
- 13:57SPEAKER_11: Come on, what is that opinion?
- 13:59SPEAKER_11: Stop living in the past, Kyle.
- 14:01SPEAKER_11: Come on.
- 14:01SPEAKER_10: We've all we've all won a game to Kansas here and there.
- 14:05SPEAKER_12: Yeah, we are we are Kansas brothers, yeah.
- 14:12SPEAKER_02: C is in that too, so everyone forgets.
- 14:14SPEAKER_10: Except Baylor.
- 14:15SPEAKER_10: Baylor needs to get there as well.
- 14:17SPEAKER_10: They're for some reason they haven't had the curse with them, but um maybe this year, yeah.
- 14:22SPEAKER_10: Well, they they already beat him, so they already missed the train.
- 14:26SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:27SPEAKER_10: Oh, where was I?
- 14:28SPEAKER_10: I guess I didn't watch that game.
- 14:30SPEAKER_10: It was weird.
- 14:30SPEAKER_10: They played a conference game, their third game of the year.
- 14:34SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's weird.
- 14:35SPEAKER_09: That's why I did not even know that happened.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: It was on primetime ABC.
- 14:39SPEAKER_02: How'd you miss it?
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, prime time at six o'clock, ABC, all eyes on Lawrence, Kansas.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: I can't believe you missed that game.
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: What a college football fan.
- 14:50SPEAKER_12: What a time to be alive.
- 14:52SPEAKER_12: Yeah, really.
- 14:53SPEAKER_10: But uh, okay, so you already mentioned the the games you've already played.
- 14:57SPEAKER_10: The the loss to Arkansas, the win at Louisiana, or the win against Louisiana, and the win against Bryce.
- 15:03SPEAKER_10: Um, it's been up and down, to say the least, to start off the year for the Longhorns.
- 15:08SPEAKER_10: Uh, nobody was really expecting Arkansas to go and win that game, especially how they won it.
- 15:13SPEAKER_10: But uh what was kind of what went wrong that game really?
- 15:17SPEAKER_09: Well, uh the OL wasn't playing great.
- 15:21SPEAKER_09: And Hudson Card, I mean, just being uh a freshman, not having much game experience in a hostile, hostile Texas Tech like environment that is uh drunk in Fayetteville.
- 15:35SPEAKER_09: Um I mean he just didn't do well.
- 15:38SPEAKER_09: He under pressure, he just kind of freaked out, he kept getting sacked, uh, he couldn't do what he usually does best.
- 15:44SPEAKER_09: And so, I mean, in that situation, it should have been done a lot earlier, but Sark put in Casey Thompson, who was fine.
- 15:52SPEAKER_09: The ball just moved up the field.
- 15:54SPEAKER_09: I mean, I know they're playing a little safer because it was towards the end of the game, but I mean, he said um when the when he has the ball in his hands, the ball just seems to move up the field.
- 16:03SPEAKER_09: He just has that kind of charisma that it takes to to lead the team and be a good leader.
- 16:08SPEAKER_09: And you know, kind of like Sam Ellinger-ish, where he just likes to ball out, get the job done.
- 16:14SPEAKER_09: So I think Hudson Cart can get like that in time.
- 16:18SPEAKER_09: He he's only started one game.
- 16:20SPEAKER_09: Uh Casey's been on the team for three or so years.
- 16:24SPEAKER_09: So he has he's played in weird spots.
- 16:26SPEAKER_09: He's he has experience.
- 16:28SPEAKER_09: It's not that much experience, but it's more.
- 16:30SPEAKER_09: And so I think uh we should have played him earlier.
- 16:33SPEAKER_09: Um we had a lot of guys dropping passes.
- 16:37SPEAKER_09: Can't do that.
- 16:38SPEAKER_09: Uh I mean, and and it it's an old rivalry that was renewed, and I they they prepped for it a lot more than we did.
- 16:46SPEAKER_09: It showed, they just wanted it more, destroyed us, we weren't ready.
- 16:51SPEAKER_09: So hopefully we're ready for tech.
- 16:53SPEAKER_02: So you agree with the quarterback controversy.
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: You know, a lot of times it feels like a red flag.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: Uh no, no, it's it's it's good to hear that you feel confident in that.
- 17:01SPEAKER_02: I mean, as a fan of the case.
- 17:02SPEAKER_09: No, I I totally disagree.
- 17:04SPEAKER_09: He I think uh Casey Thompson has led 18 drives since last or since the Alamo Bowl, and Texas has scored on 16 of those.
- 17:14SPEAKER_09: It's not a bad stat.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: Um that's the first stat of the show.
- 17:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, here we go.
- 17:19SPEAKER_10: Let's stats on stats on the stats.
- 17:23SPEAKER_10: But uh yeah, yeah.
- 17:24SPEAKER_10: I mean, uh, were you?
- 17:26SPEAKER_10: I guess the beginning of the season, it kind of I was I was like, okay, Casey Thompson's the guy who's been there a few years now, he's experienced.
- 17:32SPEAKER_10: They're probably gonna go, you know, first year head coach, they're gonna go with the more experienced guy, and then they all of a sudden they switch it and go Hudson Card Van Asked about a week before the season.
- 17:41SPEAKER_10: And I was like, you know, besides the fact that he's a he's a big time recruit, I mean, there's not really much to go off of, and and clearly he looked rattled in that Arkansas game.
- 17:51SPEAKER_10: So uh you you do you have more confidence in Casey Thompson, I guess, going into Texas Tech?
- 17:57SPEAKER_09: In hostile environments and and under pressure, I have way more um um way more confidence in Casey because he just he knows how to like if if you've ever seen him play, like he will look and if it's not there, he takes off running.
- 18:15SPEAKER_09: It's kind of like Sam Ellinger was in 2018, he ran way too much because he kind of just would if no one was open, he would just take off.
- 18:23SPEAKER_09: And it basically he I don't like a lot of games, he led in rushing because he just ran so many times.
- 18:29SPEAKER_09: I don't want Casey to do that, but he's better at that kind of uh situation than Hudson.
- 18:35SPEAKER_09: And in the Arkansas game, that's what we needed.
- 18:38SPEAKER_09: I don't think it's will be as necessary in the Big 12 uh schedule because everyone's kind of pass heavy.
- 18:45SPEAKER_09: So I'm hoping he won't need to do that.
- 18:47SPEAKER_09: But in that exact situation, he was the much better choice, much better quarterback.
- 18:52SPEAKER_09: And if if tech can get to him, I'd rather him be there than Hudson Carter.
- 19:00SPEAKER_10: Yeah, and I mean, really, for when I'm when I'm kind of breaking down both these teams, they're very we talk, we can talk about quarterbacks all day, but both Texas Tech this year and Texas this year are run first, get the run game going.
- 19:13SPEAKER_10: Obviously, you guys have B.
- 19:14SPEAKER_10: John Robinson, he's a fantastic running back, he's uh uber talented, and we have our running back tandem, uh Sir Roderick Thompson, Tosh Brooks, Xavier White.
- 19:23SPEAKER_10: We kind of use all three of them throughout the game.
- 19:25SPEAKER_10: Um if that's obviously goal number one is get the run game going for both teams.
- 19:30SPEAKER_10: I think we're actually really similar in how we approach the offense.
- 19:34SPEAKER_10: Um, you know, I think we also have two pretty poor showings from our O-lines to start the year.
- 19:41SPEAKER_10: So this is it's I mean, we really have a lot of similarities going into this game that usually, you know, you think Texas Tech, you think we're gonna air it out all the time, you know.
- 19:49SPEAKER_10: Yeah, but this is really a run first offense.
- 19:51SPEAKER_10: And Matt Wells has emphasized that ever since he got here.
- 19:55SPEAKER_10: The problem is we haven't had the talent to really get that going.
- 19:57SPEAKER_10: But now we have our guys in here, I mean, three separate running backs that I think are all really solid.
- 20:04SPEAKER_10: Uh, it's it's gonna be an issue trying to stop B.
- 20:07SPEAKER_10: John Robinson, though, on our end.
- 20:08SPEAKER_09: Uh, I know Arkansas did that, and that was a Arkansas had no problems doing it, so yeah, it can be done.
- 20:15SPEAKER_09: So, yeah, I'm a little worried about that.
- 20:18SPEAKER_09: If he does well, then I think we're fine.
- 20:20SPEAKER_09: If y'all stop him and we gotta resort to throwing it more, I'm a little worried.
- 20:25SPEAKER_09: So, and I I I guess vice versa, too.
- 20:27SPEAKER_09: If we can get to your quarterback, um make him have to throw it, like I'd rather do that.
- 20:33SPEAKER_09: Um yeah, so I I think I think Tech's run defense is top 10 in the nation.
- 20:42SPEAKER_09: I think you're allowed 57 yards a game rushing, and but we have a top 15 rushing offense.
- 20:49SPEAKER_09: We do like two 94 game.
- 20:52SPEAKER_09: So I'm very like excited to see that that matchup.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, kind of like a rock meets a hard place sort of thing, right?
- 20:58SPEAKER_02: I think that's something that encourages a lot of tech fans on this side is that you know, the top 10 run defense offense of the run defense offense, run defense is uh, you know, everyone's talking about B.
- 21:07SPEAKER_02: John Robinson, um, and Arkansas did lock him down.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: Um, and see, I can't find Arkansas here on the top list of rushing defenses.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: So, I mean, if Arkansas was in top 50, I think that's something to maybe look for on tech side, but I think it the with the competition tech has played, it's not it's not like Texas.
- 21:23SPEAKER_02: So the best we've played is Houston, and Houston doesn't look that awesome this year.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: Um, so definitely be a real test.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: But I think there is some source of optimism there for the red radar listeners, of course.
- 21:32SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 21:32SPEAKER_09: Yeah, and and I mean anything can happen.
- 21:35SPEAKER_09: We're still a young team, still getting kinks out.
- 21:38SPEAKER_09: So um I it but luckily for us, it's not at Lubbock.
- 21:45SPEAKER_09: I I would be I would be much more scared if it was at Lubbock.
- 21:48SPEAKER_09: So luckily we have we have the the fans behind us this time.
- 21:53SPEAKER_09: So I think that'll be the the uh uh deciding factor, hopefully.
- 21:59SPEAKER_10: Well you We'll have one Texas Tech fan at least in Tristan that is going to be at the game.
- 22:04SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah.
- 22:06SPEAKER_09: What section are you sitting in?
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, I I I couldn't tell you.
- 22:10SPEAKER_02: My it's my my dad got hooked up with some company tickets.
- 22:13SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be my first time in the Darrell K.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: So I'm excited to see it.
- 22:17SPEAKER_02: I'm excited to go to my first tech game there.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: Um, and at the at the end of the at the end of the show here, I'm gonna ask you about uh where we should pre-game and where we should after game for all the listeners.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: So since since you you were a lum yourself, you better have these answers, Kyle.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: You better.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: I'll try my best.
- 22:35SPEAKER_12: I'll try my best.
- 22:36SPEAKER_10: Yeah, so get that going in the back of your mind for towards the end here.
- 22:39SPEAKER_10: But uh back back to kind of some skill position, guys, just some more kind of game talk here, because you've had two wide receivers that I've noticed um that have really kind of shown out and been uh that number one, number two option.
- 22:52SPEAKER_10: Obviously, Xavier Worthy uh coming in, been a really solid start for him.
- 22:56SPEAKER_10: And then uh Jordan Whittington, he seems to be a guy who's really been involved in the offense early on this season.
- 23:02SPEAKER_10: Um, is there any other guys?
- 23:04SPEAKER_10: And and talk about those two as well if you'd like, um, just on this receiving core that you have confidence or maybe not so much confidence in.
- 23:11SPEAKER_09: Oh, confidence, Xavier.
- 23:14SPEAKER_09: He he has really come out of nowhere.
- 23:17SPEAKER_09: He was a he's a freshman, he is great, he led the team uh against Rice.
- 23:23SPEAKER_09: Um he's he's awesome.
- 23:25SPEAKER_09: So uh I have no doubt that he will be the leading uh receiver the rest of the year.
- 23:29SPEAKER_09: Uh Jordan Winnington, he um he was kind of injured his freshman and sophomore year.
- 23:34SPEAKER_09: I guess technically he's like a restaurant sophomore.
- 23:37SPEAKER_09: Uh he's he's barely played, so he's basically like a freshman again, um, just because he's been injured more than he's not.
- 23:44SPEAKER_09: So um he he is so he's not like a freshman, I guess, on the depth chart, but he I I would consider him the same thing.
- 23:53SPEAKER_09: So he he for for a freshman for just starting, um he's doing great.
- 23:57SPEAKER_09: Um he had he had a couple drop passes against Arkansas, but I mean, I don't think it would have made any difference.
- 24:02SPEAKER_09: The the the game was pretty over uh pretty early.
- 24:07SPEAKER_09: So uh but yeah, those two are our our top top wide receivers.
- 24:11SPEAKER_09: You've already mentioned the running backs.
- 24:13SPEAKER_09: Um I I'm hoping uh that Bijan and Roshan, the backup, can at least one of them have a hundred yards.
- 24:22SPEAKER_09: Uh they both had a hundred against Rice, almost had a third string get a hundred.
- 24:26SPEAKER_09: So uh run game has to show up on Saturday if we want to win this.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: They're Bijan and Rojan.
- 24:35SPEAKER_02: That's awesome.
- 24:35SPEAKER_02: They have to be good.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: Like you can't be Bijan and Rojan and not succeed.
- 24:40SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 24:40SPEAKER_02: That's the all that's like the ultimate running back duo names, right there.
- 24:44SPEAKER_09: Yeah, his last name is uh Johnson, so we call him Rojo.
- 24:48SPEAKER_09: The Rojo Mojo.
- 24:50SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 24:51SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's pretty sweet.
- 24:53SPEAKER_02: I'll I'll give you that.
- 24:53SPEAKER_02: I'll give I'll give you all that nod for sure.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: Respect words due.
- 24:58SPEAKER_10: It's gonna be interesting seeing uh seeing the Bijan uh Rojo combo against uh we have a couple pretty good nose tackles this year in Jalen Hutchings and Tony Bradford that kind of uh fill the lane, you know.
- 25:10SPEAKER_10: They've been really good on the run defense this year.
- 25:12SPEAKER_10: Uh we haven't like like Tristan mentioned earlier, we haven't played uh fantastic competition to start the year, but uh talking about Florida International, they have a really good running back in Devontae Price.
- 25:22SPEAKER_10: And we shut he was averaging about nine yards a carry before the tech game.
- 25:25SPEAKER_10: We held him to about three and a half uh during that game.
- 25:29SPEAKER_10: So um, you know, that's good to see.
- 25:31SPEAKER_10: Uh Bijan, Bijan's obviously a different kind of beast.
- 25:34SPEAKER_10: I mean, we haven't played a guy that good, and I'm not sure we're gonna play a guy that good all season.
- 25:39SPEAKER_10: The Big 12, surprisingly, has a lot of good running backs this year.
- 25:42SPEAKER_10: Brees Hall, uh, you know, uh Bichon, all these guys, uh almost got a couple of them, but um, it that's gonna be the real factor here.
- 25:50SPEAKER_10: And on the opposite side as well, I'm not sure about Texas's D line.
- 25:54SPEAKER_10: Uh, can you kind of go in?
- 25:55SPEAKER_10: Well, really, just the whole defense.
- 25:57SPEAKER_10: What are the weaknesses?
- 25:58SPEAKER_10: What are the strengths of this Texas defense this season?
- 26:01SPEAKER_09: Um, well, I mean, our our our backfield is usually kind of been like a kind of weakness the last few years, but they've there we got a lot of um a lot of talent back there.
- 26:15SPEAKER_09: We have I think three seniors.
- 26:18SPEAKER_09: Um yeah, three seniors and a grad transfer who's like a senior.
- 26:22SPEAKER_09: So it like our cornerback and safeties are all seniors.
- 26:27SPEAKER_09: They they have been playing a while, so I like having that experience.
- 26:31SPEAKER_09: Um BJ Foster is kind of kind of broken out as like the leader back there.
- 26:36SPEAKER_09: Uh Deshaun Jameson is great.
- 26:38SPEAKER_09: He um also does uh punt returns, so watch out for him.
- 26:42SPEAKER_09: He is lightning fast.
- 26:44SPEAKER_09: Um the DL is great.
- 26:46SPEAKER_09: Um I would like to see them get more pressure on the quarterback.
- 26:50SPEAKER_09: I I can't remember how often they like touched him the last few games.
- 26:55SPEAKER_09: I know a couple times against Rice, I think zero times against Arkansas, maybe a handful uh against Louisiana.
- 27:02SPEAKER_09: Um I I hope they can they can pressure y'all's quarterback because I like I've said it multiple times, they that's what we need for this game.
- 27:12SPEAKER_09: Um so yeah, I I a lot of experience back there.
- 27:16SPEAKER_09: Um more more fresher faces are on the OL and like the receiving core.
- 27:23SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 27:23SPEAKER_09: So um the defense is more experienced than the offense.
- 27:28SPEAKER_09: I'll just say that.
- 27:29SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 27:30SPEAKER_10: Yeah, and I mean, I again, this is another similarity here.
- 27:33SPEAKER_10: We have some transfers on our team, but we have a lot of fifth-year seniors.
- 27:37SPEAKER_10: I mean, uh our linebackers, Rico Jeffers, Schooler, all these guys have been in college football for five plus years now.
- 27:44SPEAKER_10: We got Muddy Waters from Duke, who's coming in as a fifth-year guy.
- 27:47SPEAKER_10: I mean, we're we're filled with uh with just seniors and and uh yeah, it's awesome.
- 27:52SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it is it's really nice.
- 27:54SPEAKER_10: It's it's nice not throwing in a freshman or a sophomore back there and hoping he does well.
- 27:58SPEAKER_10: It's nice seeing a guy who's played the game and and knows the uh knows the speed of it and is and is used to it.
- 28:05SPEAKER_10: So uh man, I mean, honestly, we have some very similar teams going into this game, and it's gonna be really interesting to see uh how we go at one another and and kind of uh you know attack each other's weaknesses, attack and and try to uh overcome some of the bad stuff that we've seen so far this season.
- 28:22SPEAKER_09: For sure, for sure.
- 28:24SPEAKER_09: Um, but hopefully more us than y'all.
- 28:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:30SPEAKER_02: So uh well, I guess we're winding down the game here.
- 28:34SPEAKER_02: Uh so what so what what about tech probably scares you the most?
- 28:39SPEAKER_02: And what do you probably have the biggest optimism for UT?
- 28:42SPEAKER_02: Like, what do you think is going to be the Achilles heel against the horns from tech?
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: And what do you think the horns have that will get the W?
- 28:50SPEAKER_09: Uh things that worry me always are the offensive line.
- 28:54SPEAKER_09: They struggled against Arkansas, played a little better against Rice.
- 28:57SPEAKER_09: Uh, but I swear for the last 10 years, that's been our Achilles heel.
- 29:01SPEAKER_09: We we we never have great experience behind the offensive line.
- 29:07SPEAKER_09: Um it usually shows.
- 29:09SPEAKER_09: So that's what I'm most worried about.
- 29:11SPEAKER_09: I'm worried about Casey Thompson getting pressure.
- 29:13SPEAKER_09: I'm worried about um Bichon not having running paths, um, you know, like uh like against Arkansas.
- 29:21SPEAKER_09: Um so I think the deciding factor though will be we have Bichon.
- 29:28SPEAKER_09: I know Arkansas shut him down, but that was a weird game.
- 29:33SPEAKER_09: No one was playing the right way.
- 29:35SPEAKER_09: I think we've learned a lot from that.
- 29:37SPEAKER_09: Um he's just a monster, he's a beast.
- 29:40SPEAKER_09: He he gets half his yards are after being touched.
- 29:43SPEAKER_09: He's he's crazy.
- 29:44SPEAKER_09: So um I hope he can bust off a couple 50 yarders um against Tech so y'all can see what I'm talking about.
- 29:52SPEAKER_09: But I I I have full faith in him uh being able to get the job done this week.
- 29:57SPEAKER_09: So I think that'll be the deciding factor for us.
- 30:00SPEAKER_10: I think we could we could both go without seeing that this week.
- 30:04SPEAKER_10: Uh we I've seen plenty of B.
- 30:06SPEAKER_10: John Robinson highlights to know what he can do.
- 30:09SPEAKER_10: But um, I think for me, it's gonna be whether our defense in our defensive coordinator, there hasn't been many uh issues with Keith Patterson.
- 30:16SPEAKER_10: I think he's done a fantastic job since he's gotten to Lubbock.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: But um for the one time we can ever say this.
- 30:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we we love our defensive coordinator.
- 30:25SPEAKER_02: How weird is that coming out of Texas Tech fans' mouth, that's for sure.
- 30:29SPEAKER_10: It's gonna surprise some people that haven't watched Texas Tech because it's a completely un-Texas Tech like team.
- 30:36SPEAKER_10: I mean, uh we use tight ends now, who'd have thought?
- 30:40SPEAKER_10: We've never used tight ends before, and now here we are using tight ends, or we're relying on our defense to win games.
- 30:45SPEAKER_10: It's crazy.
- 30:46SPEAKER_10: But um, for me, it's gonna be if Keith Patterson decides to rush four or five guys more often.
- 30:52SPEAKER_10: We rushed three so often last season, and we could not get to any quarterback.
- 30:57SPEAKER_10: And we decided to do that last year against UT when we took the lead and we played prevent defense, only rushed three, and then we gave an experienced guy like Sam Ellinger all the time in the world to make plays.
- 31:08SPEAKER_10: What we need to do is get guys there, trust your thing, please throw everybody and go attack Casey Thompson.
- 31:17SPEAKER_10: Because as as experienced as he is, he hasn't had a lot of real game time experience overall.
- 31:24SPEAKER_10: So if you if you fluster him and get him out of his groove early, I think we have a real shot here.
- 31:32SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 31:33SPEAKER_09: Uh I think it's gonna be closer than people think.
- 31:36SPEAKER_09: Um are y'all doing a score prediction?
- 31:38SPEAKER_09: Do you all have a score prediction?
- 31:40SPEAKER_09: Absolutely.
- 31:40SPEAKER_10: I that was my next question, man.
- 31:42SPEAKER_10: We'll start with you, we'll go to Tristan and then we'll finish with me.
- 31:44SPEAKER_10: Kyle, what's your score prediction for this one?
- 31:47SPEAKER_09: Even though I won a blowout, I don't think it's gonna happen.
- 31:49SPEAKER_09: I think it'll be close down to the fourth quarter.
- 31:52SPEAKER_09: I think it'll be 41, low 30s, 31, 33, something like that, somewhere in there.
- 31:59SPEAKER_10: Obviously, Texas Tech winning.
- 32:02SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah.
- 32:04SPEAKER_12: Forgot to say that, obviously.
- 32:06SPEAKER_13: We like the honest takes here.
- 32:08SPEAKER_13: We appreciate that.
- 32:09SPEAKER_12: Yeah, right.
- 32:11SPEAKER_02: Uh Tristan, what you got for us?
- 32:14SPEAKER_02: I think this is gonna be razor thin.
- 32:15SPEAKER_02: I I'm I'm thinking something like I'm I think this is gonna be like 35-32.
- 32:20SPEAKER_02: I think this is razor thin.
- 32:23SPEAKER_09: Both sound like good games to watch.
- 32:24SPEAKER_10: Yeah, absolutely.
- 32:25SPEAKER_10: I mean, I'm I'm gonna agree with both of y'all.
- 32:27SPEAKER_10: This is gonna be a tight game, both teams are very similar uh in in play style and everything like that.
- 32:32SPEAKER_10: It's gonna come down to coaching and uh, you know, Sark, we haven't seen enough of him at Texas yet to really judge.
- 32:38SPEAKER_10: And Matt Wells, uh, you know, he's been shaky to say the least to start at Texas Tech.
- 32:43SPEAKER_10: So uh we're gonna see what happens.
- 32:45SPEAKER_10: I'm gonna say, I'm gonna say 4238.
- 32:48SPEAKER_10: Uh Texas Tech pulls us out because it says the Talking Tech podcast.
- 32:52SPEAKER_10: We gotta do it.
- 32:53SPEAKER_10: We gotta we gotta be we gotta be homers.
- 32:55SPEAKER_10: We don't we don't pretend we're not biased over here.
- 32:57SPEAKER_09: What kind of what kind of podcast would that be if you didn't pick your team?
- 33:00SPEAKER_09: Who would listen to that?
- 33:02SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 33:03SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 33:03SPEAKER_02: That's that that's two recommends and one hook'em.
- 33:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we we we love we love to have those predictions.
- 33:09SPEAKER_02: I'll take any of those games except for Kyle's.
- 33:12SPEAKER_02: So we'll take two out of three all day.
- 33:16SPEAKER_10: Yeah, no doubt, man.
- 33:17SPEAKER_10: But uh, I mean, any any last words on this upcoming game?
- 33:21SPEAKER_10: Anything that you maybe didn't get a chance to say, something that you're excited for?
- 33:26SPEAKER_09: No, I mean I'm just excited to see more football.
- 33:28SPEAKER_09: I mean, I the offseason was incredibly long and tiring, and I'm I'm just glad we're in right here, right in the middle of a season.
- 33:38SPEAKER_09: I'm sad after this weekend it'll be a third over.
- 33:41SPEAKER_09: Um, so it's just going by too fast.
- 33:43SPEAKER_09: I I just I'm excited for football.
- 33:45SPEAKER_09: So win or lose, football is on, everyone should be happy.
- 33:50SPEAKER_02: And can we appreciate that these the Daryl K and the Jones is full of fans again?
- 33:54SPEAKER_02: College sports are a shell of themselves without the fans.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: So it's just I'm really excited to experience the UT game day myself.
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: Uh, I hope the beers aren't too expensive in them.
- 34:05SPEAKER_02: They will be they they will be will be so and I bet there's IPAs and crap there, you know, in Austin.
- 34:12SPEAKER_09: So yeah, there's a giant, there's a giant um big birtha like truck with like 15 taps on it that drives.
- 34:23SPEAKER_09: I have not because um I don't know if you know that know this, but I'm kind of a legend in Austin.
- 34:29SPEAKER_09: So when I when I get there, I don't have to I don't have to buy beers.
- 34:32SPEAKER_09: So I had plenty of beers to choose from.
- 34:36SPEAKER_10: Just go hang out with Kyle.
- 34:37SPEAKER_10: Tristan, it looks like you need to hook up with Kyle and drink it.
- 34:40SPEAKER_09: If I was that if I was there for this game, I would hook you up, man.
- 34:43SPEAKER_09: I'm I will not be.
- 34:44SPEAKER_09: But um next time.
- 34:47SPEAKER_09: Yeah, dude.
- 34:48SPEAKER_09: If if you just it I just try this.
- 34:50SPEAKER_09: I I if you walk up to a any um any tailgate, make sure it's like kind of busy and just say, hey, I'm I'm I'm I'm buzz with with Kyle Umling on Twitter.
- 35:01SPEAKER_09: I you could probably get a beer.
- 35:03SPEAKER_02: Bet you don't sound like hey, I know a guy, or you know, do you know who my dad is?
- 35:09SPEAKER_09: Walking up, you I want you to do, I just want to see if you can get a free beer because all right you know what?
- 35:14SPEAKER_09: Okay, you're you're on the opposite team.
- 35:15SPEAKER_09: There's zero, there's no one should give you a beer, but if it works, I'd be cool.
- 35:19SPEAKER_02: I I promise you I'll give it three shots and I'll send you the results.
- 35:24SPEAKER_02: I will post the results.
- 35:25SPEAKER_02: I promise you I will do that.
- 35:27SPEAKER_02: I'm just curious.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: Just curious.
- 35:29SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 35:30SPEAKER_10: Kyle, Kyle, when you said there's a giant, and you talked about the the big beertha.
- 35:35SPEAKER_10: I yeah, when you said giant, I thought you were gonna say there's a giant uterus in the stadium right now in the end zone.
- 35:43SPEAKER_10: You need to check it out.
- 35:44SPEAKER_12: I yeah, I'm not sure if y'all are aware, but the the logo kind of looks like a uterus to some people, and it looks like a uterus to a lot of people, and it's a beautiful thing, Steven.
- 35:56SPEAKER_11: The the beautiful thing of what's nature, isn't it?
- 35:59SPEAKER_11: It's man.
- 36:02SPEAKER_12: How did I how did I not know that was coming?
- 36:04SPEAKER_12: I I need to say literally totally giant.
- 36:07SPEAKER_12: I was like, it's been like a couple of weeks since I thought about that.
- 36:10SPEAKER_12: Thank you for bringing that back up.
- 36:13SPEAKER_02: All right, since we're talking about since we're talking about getting lit up on some sodas, um, so we're it's an early game.
- 36:20SPEAKER_02: Well, tech fans are certainly used to this.
- 36:23SPEAKER_02: We're we're gonna be hitting an early morning tailgate, but where else should I check out if I need a bloody, if I need a breakfast beer of some sort, where do you go before an 11 a.m.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: kickoff?
- 36:34SPEAKER_09: I mean, there are plenty of booths and events and all sorts of crap going on there on game days.
- 36:42SPEAKER_09: Uh, I've only been to a seven o'clock game, so I don't know when things open at an 11 o'clock game, but I mean, we've got Smoky's uh Midway, which has like carnival rides and like a Ferris wheel and like you know, like fair food type things.
- 36:57SPEAKER_09: I I don't know if they have a Bloody Mary for you, man.
- 37:00SPEAKER_09: I do not know.
- 37:01SPEAKER_09: Um uh they got like a giant um, like a giant, what's it called?
- 37:07SPEAKER_09: Uh like a zip line.
- 37:08SPEAKER_09: They got all sorts of weird things like that, um, carnival game type things.
- 37:12SPEAKER_09: They have a uh Longhorn City Limits, like free concert that they put on every week before game.
- 37:18SPEAKER_09: Uh when I was there, it was Salt and Peppa.
- 37:20SPEAKER_09: I think I think for the tech game, it's Zach Bryan.
- 37:24SPEAKER_09: Not sure Zach Brian is so yeah, uh right in front of the LBJ lawn, there's like a giant water fountain.
- 37:30SPEAKER_09: There's like a stage right there, free concert before the game, or on 11 o'clock game, it might be after.
- 37:36SPEAKER_09: Um, I'm trying to look, it doesn't say what time, but yeah.
- 37:40SPEAKER_09: Um, you should hit that up.
- 37:41SPEAKER_09: It's a free concert.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: Um, you're saying you're saying stay, stay with the people.
- 37:45SPEAKER_02: Don't even think about walking into the city.
- 37:48SPEAKER_09: You stay with the people.
- 37:49SPEAKER_09: There is zero, there is no like you're gonna be lucky to find parking a mile away from the stadium.
- 37:55SPEAKER_09: So do not leave.
- 37:56SPEAKER_09: You will not get your spot, you will not find a spot again.
- 37:59SPEAKER_09: So get there early, get on campus, and then stay around the stadium.
- 38:03SPEAKER_09: There's plenty to do, plenty to plenty of beers to have around the stadium.
- 38:07SPEAKER_02: And but say, My my dad's name is Kyle.
- 38:11SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah.
- 38:13SPEAKER_10: My dad's name is Kyle.
- 38:14SPEAKER_10: I'm like, look, I have but uh yeah, then after, okay, so it is an early game, so it you know, you're getting out around three or four, depending on how long it goes.
- 38:25SPEAKER_10: Where are you going afterwards?
- 38:26SPEAKER_10: What's the what's the move after the game?
- 38:29SPEAKER_09: Okay, so I have I do not live in Austin, so I have not done this in a long time.
- 38:37SPEAKER_09: Um but my favorite restaurant, which I already looked, it's it's closed right now.
- 38:43SPEAKER_09: Oh I'm not sure why.
- 38:45SPEAKER_09: They have a north and south location, but the one I like is on campus.
- 38:48SPEAKER_09: But I would always hit up Trudy's.
- 38:50SPEAKER_09: Uh it's Mexican food, it's the best Mexican food there is been there before, it's good.
- 38:54SPEAKER_09: And and it's walking distance, so I always do that.
- 38:57SPEAKER_02: All right, Trudy's knocked out.
- 38:59SPEAKER_02: So we got smoke, smokies in the morning, Trudy's after.
- 39:01SPEAKER_09: Well, it's closed, so you'd have to drive to a location if you really wanted it, but there's plenty, there's plenty of restaurants all along, all around there.
- 39:09SPEAKER_09: So just just go Tristan when you're with your brother.
- 39:13SPEAKER_09: Ask every drunk person there who where they're they would go, and they'll tell you.
- 39:17SPEAKER_10: Tristan, when you're with your brother and your dad this weekend, just go get dirty on six, right after.
- 39:21SPEAKER_10: Go to Shakespeare's, go to Greenlight Social, go get destroyed over there.
- 39:26SPEAKER_09: I mean, I wouldn't go to six at three o'clock, but you can always go to six.
- 39:30SPEAKER_09: Go to six.
- 39:30SPEAKER_09: If you wait till the sun is down, you'll it'll be fun.
- 39:35SPEAKER_09: Especially if you go out there wearing if you go out there where you're wearing your tech gear, you'll really get some high fives and stuff.
- 39:41SPEAKER_11: Nice.
- 39:41SPEAKER_11: I bet I will.
- 39:42SPEAKER_11: Sure.
- 39:42SPEAKER_11: You won't you won't get spat on at all.

- 39:56SPEAKER_02: Where's my Game Boy?
- 39:57SPEAKER_02: So I can find my double-A batteries, bro.

- 41:06SPEAKER_09: As long as we're playing Oklahoma State on Halloween, I'm happy.
- 41:09SPEAKER_09: That's like the worst time for everyone.
- 41:11SPEAKER_13: That's true, that's true.
- 41:12SPEAKER_13: Gonna be the panel people are just scary, like, yeah, god, stay away from me.
- 41:17SPEAKER_10: Yeah, they they copied all of our stuff, so all of it, you know, uh literally all of it.

- 41:25SPEAKER_10: You know, we we appreciate you coming on, talking some Texas Texas Tech for the second year in a row.
- 41:30SPEAKER_10: By the way, you are our first returning guest on the Talking Tech Pod.

- 42:20SPEAKER_02: Well, this is very Drake-like.
- 42:22SPEAKER_02: Um, it's when I say that, it's absolutely not going to be.
- 42:26SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 42:27SPEAKER_02: Um, I knew that this is not from the six, Kyle.
- 42:30SPEAKER_02: Um this is American Aquarium cover of a classic country song, Heads Carolina, Tails California, 90s classic.
- 42:41SPEAKER_02: And this is on their certified bangers and certified Twangers cover album.
- 42:46SPEAKER_02: So it's an absolute jam.
- 42:47SPEAKER_02: It just feels good.
- 42:48SPEAKER_02: Who can't who can hate this song?
- 42:50SPEAKER_02: You can't hate 90s country.
- 42:52SPEAKER_02: No, no, and it still keeps that vibe.
- 42:55SPEAKER_02: So everyone's very happy with this one.
- 43:03SPEAKER_02: Somewhere warmer up in the mountains, down by the ocean where it don't matter.
- 43:11SPEAKER_10: Okay, so we got we got a rap song from Drake.
- 43:14SPEAKER_10: We got a 90s country song from American Aquarium.
- 43:17SPEAKER_10: Uh, I am also, uh, well, not necessarily country.
- 43:21SPEAKER_10: It's from new, the new Casey Musgraves album.
- 43:24SPEAKER_10: I've been really jamming to it lately.
- 43:25SPEAKER_10: I think I think this album is one of her best.
- 43:28SPEAKER_10: Um, this song that I have for my song of the week is called Simple Times by Casey Musgraves, a jam of a song.
- 43:35SPEAKER_10: You just put it on.
- 43:36SPEAKER_10: It's just easy listening, it's just really fun.
- 43:38SPEAKER_10: You're just popping your head the whole time.
- 43:40SPEAKER_10: Uh, I really enjoy this album, so that's my song of the week, Simple Times by Casey Musgraves.
- 43:46SPEAKER_07: If I don't I want to go insane, cuz you know the kind of sucks in hunt.
- 43:53SPEAKER_07: Really just listen the simple talks uh nice.
- 43:58SPEAKER_09: I'm gonna check those out for sure.
- 44:00SPEAKER_10: Hey, you know where you can check it out, Kyle.
- 44:02SPEAKER_10: Good, good transition here.
- 44:04SPEAKER_10: You can check it out on the talk in tech songs we playlist that is on Spotify and Apple Music.
- 44:10SPEAKER_10: We will shoot a link on Twitter.
- 44:12SPEAKER_02: I'm going there now.
- 44:13SPEAKER_10: And do it now.
- 44:15SPEAKER_02: Is definitely the time of the podcast to be selfish.
- 44:18SPEAKER_02: Please plug all this new content you are putting out because you have a lot more than the last time.
- 44:22SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah.
- 44:23SPEAKER_09: Okay, so everyone knows I have a book, uh, 101 Aggie Facts.
- 44:29SPEAKER_09: It was a best seller on Amazon for about a few weeks.
- 44:32SPEAKER_09: It's great.
- 44:33SPEAKER_09: Thanks for the Aggies.
- 44:34SPEAKER_09: Um, I won't say if there's a tech version coming out at some point.
- 44:38SPEAKER_09: There's probably won't be.
- 44:40SPEAKER_10: Take it easy there.
- 44:41SPEAKER_10: Yeah, take it easy.
- 44:43SPEAKER_02: The bag isn't that important.
- 44:45SPEAKER_02: Some things in life mean more.
- 44:47SPEAKER_09: Uh, I have two podcasts.
- 44:50SPEAKER_09: One is called Statistically Speaking, it's with Blinken Riley.
- 44:53SPEAKER_09: You should know who that is.
- 44:54SPEAKER_09: He's uh he's the Oklahoma like Kyle.
- 44:57SPEAKER_09: Um we we talk um like matchups uh for the week.
- 45:02SPEAKER_09: We have special guests that talk about like data analytics and that type of stuff.
- 45:06SPEAKER_09: Kind of just the the realm in which we kind of got started here on Twitter.
- 45:10SPEAKER_09: So um, and then I also have a a rivalry podcast called the Lone Lone Star Showdown Podcast, and that's with Chance Bitters, who is an Aggie.
- 45:21SPEAKER_09: And we we go into the Aggie and um Longhorn games every week and our thoughts and and then we do like a recap after the game is over and stuff like that.
- 45:33SPEAKER_09: So um probably not a lot of tech fans interested in that one, but the the statistic the statistics one is a hoot, it's fun.
- 45:42SPEAKER_09: So if you like data and stuff, go check it out.
- 45:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, if you're a nerd, yeah, stats are for nerds.
- 45:51SPEAKER_10: No, man.
- 45:51SPEAKER_10: Uh that's awesome.
- 45:52SPEAKER_10: Go check out his podcast, go buy his book.
- 45:54SPEAKER_10: Uh, you know, he's making fun of Aggies.
- 45:56SPEAKER_10: We can all agree that the Aggies stink uh on this year podcast.
- 46:00SPEAKER_10: So uh Kyle, we really appreciate you having on, man.
- 46:03SPEAKER_10: Have a good one, yeah.
- 46:04SPEAKER_09: Man, I'll I'll see y'all next year.
- 46:05SPEAKER_09: Absolutely.
- 46:06SPEAKER_09: Oh, 100%.
- 46:08SPEAKER_09: And I I probably won't show up for the for the basketball, the basketball one.
- 46:12SPEAKER_12: That's that that's that's gonna be just me and Chris.
- 46:16SPEAKER_12: We're gonna be ranking.
- 46:17SPEAKER_12: I will be shaking in my boots over here.
- 46:19SPEAKER_10: So oh yeah, don't even ask me.
- 46:21SPEAKER_10: Chris Beard is gonna be shaking as well.
- 46:24SPEAKER_10: So uh it'll be a good one.
- 46:26SPEAKER_10: But uh uh man, that's uh that's awesome.
- 46:28SPEAKER_10: We appreciate you coming on.
- 46:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah, anytime, man.
- 46:31SPEAKER_05: Uh wow.
- 46:32SPEAKER_05: First of all, uh got a lot of respect for Steven and Tristan.
- 46:38SPEAKER_05: Uh their program, tough guys, just uh a lot of fun.
- 46:41SPEAKER_00: I love the game of basketball, but also love West Texas, and I love Steven and Tristan.
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: So I'm extremely proud.
- 46:48SPEAKER_00: Well, I don't know where we go from here.
- 46:50SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm thinking I'm just gonna sit back down.
- 46:52SPEAKER_00: It's just stuck getting better than this.
- 46:54SPEAKER_06: I just want to tell Steven and Tristan, thanks for coming out.
- 46:58SPEAKER_04: The energy uh was really, really good in there today.
- 47:00SPEAKER_04: Uh we fed off of it.
- 47:02SPEAKER_04: I think it goes back and forth tremendous.
- 47:04SPEAKER_04: Uh great job, and um, you know, just just proud of our guys for the way they responded.
