SPEAKER_00: This week we're gonna tell some truth, okay?
• 0:16
SPEAKER_00: Now, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one this ever happened to, but it happens to the best of us, okay?
• 0:23
SPEAKER_00: And I I am ashamed to tell you that I have fallen victim to this trap a couple of times, okay?
• 0:31
SPEAKER_00: So as we discuss this, I want to put out my shame to you so that you will not fall into this same trap as most of us over 40 fall for.
• 0:45
SPEAKER_00: And even some of y'all that's under 40 fall for the same trap, okay?
• 0:50
SPEAKER_00: But before I get started, welcome to another episode of Unstripped After 40 the podcast.
• 0:57
SPEAKER_00: So this week, you know, I've been running more and I've been working out.
• 1:04
SPEAKER_00: But the the heat is, you know, winning.
• 1:07
  SPEAKER_00: It is winning.
• 1:08
  SPEAKER_00: It's it's on fire.
• 1:10
SPEAKER_00: Um, I've been drinking more water to get myself hydrated so that I can keep my energy up as I go.
• 1:17
SPEAKER_00: But as well, I have to go outside and cut this grass, you know.
• 1:21
SPEAKER_00: I need to just pay somebody to cut the grass, but my yard's not that big.
• 1:26
SPEAKER_00: And I have a riding lawnmower, and I have a little beach hat, whatever it calls, like a little straw hat.
• 1:32
SPEAKER_00: I just all I'm missing is a little straw outcoming my mouth to go forward and just ride around the yard and cut the grass and then you know go weed eat it.
• 1:41
SPEAKER_00: Probably takes me maybe 45 to maybe an hour tops to do it, okay?
• 1:47
  SPEAKER_00: The whole grass.
• 1:48
SPEAKER_00: And I'm I might be exaggerating, it's probably maybe 20 to like 30 minutes to cut the whole grass, and that's weed eating too, okay?
• 1:56
SPEAKER_00: But it needed to be done, okay?
• 1:59
SPEAKER_00: So after I went outside, well, I worked out that morning.
• 2:04
SPEAKER_00: After I worked out that morning, I came home.
• 2:06
SPEAKER_00: I wasn't gonna lift weights the afternoon, but I said, I got to cut this grass because it's unruly out there.
• 2:11
SPEAKER_00: I'm going to grasses up to my goddamn knees.
• 2:13
SPEAKER_00: So I have to get this grass cut.
• 2:15
SPEAKER_00: So I go out there, cut the grass, and I know what you're thinking right now.
• 2:21
SPEAKER_00: Did I fall asleep while I was cutting grass?
• 2:24
SPEAKER_00: No, that that didn't happen this time.
• 2:27
  SPEAKER_00: Yes, okay.
• 2:28
SPEAKER_00: I I'm ashamed to say it did happen before, but luckily I got a fence in between my house and the neighbor's house, and as I was cutting grass and I dozed off, I hit the fence.
• 2:39
SPEAKER_00: Didn't mess up the lawnmower.
• 2:41
  SPEAKER_00: And yes, I'm okay.
• 2:43
SPEAKER_00: So I'm glad you were concerned about my well-being.
• 2:46
SPEAKER_00: So yes, I was okay.
• 2:47
SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you can cut grass and fall asleep on the lawnmower, okay?
• 2:51
SPEAKER_00: But that's not the shame I'm putting out here today, okay?
• 2:55
SPEAKER_00: Like I say, so I went out there, like I said, I stay hydrated, I cut the grass, y'all look beautiful, okay?
• 3:02
SPEAKER_00: I put all my stuff up, clean off the lawnmower, I come into the house, I take a hot shower, okay?
• 3:09
SPEAKER_00: As I'm taking a shower, you know, it's soothing my body.
• 3:13
  SPEAKER_00: And I know what you're thinking.
• 3:15
SPEAKER_00: No, I I did not fall asleep in the shower.
• 3:18
SPEAKER_00: But, okay, yes, it did happen before.
• 3:21
SPEAKER_00: I have fell asleep in the shower, just like y'all might have fallen asleep in the tub before, you know, in a hot shower, the steam's coming up, you know, it lights in your body, you're already tired, and yes, I dozed off.
• 3:35
  SPEAKER_00: I didn't fall, but I dozed off.
• 3:38
SPEAKER_00: I do have one on a lot of showers with a little stool in it.
• 3:41
SPEAKER_00: So um, I don't sit on the stool no more because, you know, that is a prime way to kind of, you know, fall asleep in the shower while the water hitting you.
• 3:50
SPEAKER_00: It's like a sauna thing, but but so no, that that it is not the shower I'm talking about.
• 3:55
SPEAKER_00: So I got the shower, you know, put lotion on my body, I sat down on the bed while I'm putting lotion on my body, and make sure I put clothes on.
• 4:05
SPEAKER_00: And nope, didn't happen there.
• 4:07
SPEAKER_00: No, I did not fall asleep.
• 4:09
SPEAKER_00: You know, I I stayed awake, I did the right thing, I got ready because I had some horn to do tonight.
• 4:16
SPEAKER_00: And I have to also work on some pictures.
• 4:18
SPEAKER_00: So that's what my mind frame was in the thing.
• 4:20
SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna stay awake, I'm gonna make sure I do all this stuff right here, okay?
• 4:24
SPEAKER_00: But as you know, your body at some point is gonna let you know you need to shut it down for just a little bit, you know, not for a long period.
• 4:36
SPEAKER_00: You know, we call those things power naps.
• 4:39
SPEAKER_00: And for your young people, I know that y'all take power naps.
• 4:43
  SPEAKER_00: I I have taken a power nap.
• 4:45
SPEAKER_00: I have gone down to my car during lunchtime and set my clock for a particular time.
• 4:52
SPEAKER_00: Maybe it depends if I need 15, 20, or 30 minutes, depending on how long my lunch break is or what I have to do during lunchtime or the things I can get due during that time of lunch.
• 5:04
SPEAKER_00: If you know if I gotta go to the post office or I have to go to the store to get some things or whatever.
• 5:11
SPEAKER_00: But I'm gonna take take my power nap.
• 5:13
SPEAKER_00: And that's what it is.
• 5:14
  SPEAKER_00: It's a power nap.
• 5:15
SPEAKER_00: You know, you take a nap, you wake up and you feel energized, ready to go to finish your mission.
• 5:21
SPEAKER_00: But okay, but like I said, I wasn't in the car now, but like I said, power nap.
• 5:26
SPEAKER_00: So my body at the time frame was letting me know that, hey, you might need to, you know, just slow it down, um, sit down for a little bit and just take a power nap on a recliner, right?
• 5:41
SPEAKER_00: I say, you know what, I can't do that because I'm gonna go ahead and finish this homework and then I'm gonna go upstairs to go to sleep.
• 5:48
SPEAKER_00: You know, I got time to do this, I'm gonna just go ahead and do it.
• 5:51
SPEAKER_00: Just go ahead and knock it out.
• 5:52
SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
• 5:53
SPEAKER_00: Because most times, the best times and the best way to look at a situation is just go ahead and knock it out, you know?
• 5:59
SPEAKER_00: Don't procrastinate on doing something.
• 6:02
SPEAKER_00: Just go ahead and bam, knock it out, right?
• 6:05
SPEAKER_00: Um, as I was sitting there typing on Mike Peter, um, my eyes were getting heavy.
• 6:11
SPEAKER_00: And I know what you're thinking, no, no, I didn't fall asleep with Michael Peter, you know, and probably hit the F key for like a million times, and 26 pages of the paper was the F key going all the way down, F and sometimes G.
• 6:27
SPEAKER_00: Um, no, that didn't happen.
• 6:28
SPEAKER_00: So that this time, no, okay.
• 6:31
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it did happen before, but and that was a long time ago, you know.
• 6:36
SPEAKER_00: Sometimes, you know, you're sitting there doing hornwork after midnight, and then sometimes the horn does you.
• 6:42
SPEAKER_00: And, you know, you're sitting there laying on your keyboard, think you type the whole paper when you wake up in the morning because you got 100 and something pages done, just to realize that all you did is hit F and G occasionally, some of the times.
• 6:55
SPEAKER_00: But no, I I didn't fall asleep on that.
• 6:57
SPEAKER_00: So, like I say, I didn't fall asleep on the lawnmower, okay?
• 7:00
SPEAKER_00: Yes, it does happen, okay.
• 7:02
SPEAKER_00: It happened to me, okay.
• 7:04
SPEAKER_00: I I didn't fall asleep in the shower, you know, because yes, that does happen too.
• 7:08
SPEAKER_00: Some of y'all fall asleep in the shower in the bathtub too, so don't judge me.
• 7:11
SPEAKER_00: Um, and no, I didn't fall asleep on my computer this time and wrote me a paper in my sleep.
• 7:18
SPEAKER_00: That was, it should have been awesome.
• 7:19
SPEAKER_00: I don't know how I think it should be some way we can like write full-blown papers and books in our sleep.
• 7:27
SPEAKER_00: Because when we doing our dream phases, there's sometimes some of the best stories or you know examples or explanations we can do during that time frame.
• 7:38
SPEAKER_00: But apparently, I I yeah, we once I figure out how to do it, I'll let y'all know and I'll get back to y'all, okay?
• 7:46
SPEAKER_00: But I need the power nap.
• 7:48
  SPEAKER_00: I I need the power nap.
• 7:50
SPEAKER_00: So I I say, you know what, because this hornwork is very important.
• 7:53
SPEAKER_00: I need to get it done.
• 7:54
SPEAKER_00: I need to make sure I get it right.
• 7:56
SPEAKER_00: But at this time right here, I'm looking at the paper and I'm looking at my computer, and I'm looking at the paper, and I'm looking at my computer, and then I look at the book.
• 8:03
SPEAKER_00: The book, the paper, and the book, they're all saying three different things already.
• 8:07
SPEAKER_00: And I can't correlate and put all three of them together to put it on that computer to spit me out uh a good paper.
• 8:14
SPEAKER_00: Or actually, I think I write a discussion question.
• 8:16
SPEAKER_00: But you know, these discussion questions for y'all that's going back to school now, they they they're almost like a page long.
• 8:22
SPEAKER_00: And you got to have in detailed stuff, and you got to make sure that you put a reference there, and then you got to take it to the AI checker so they make sure that you're not cheating.
• 8:31
SPEAKER_00: So it's a lot going on with Horn these days.
• 8:34
SPEAKER_00: So if you go back to school, you know, just like I am, bless you, bless you, because it's it's it's a lot going on.
• 8:40
SPEAKER_00: You know, the age of um school being easy, I don't hold up.
• 8:45
SPEAKER_00: When have it been easy?
• 8:47
SPEAKER_00: Well, I'll let you know I get back to you the age of when school been easy.
• 8:50
  SPEAKER_00: I I don't remember it ever being easy.
• 8:52
SPEAKER_00: Not for me anyway, not for y'all smart people, but for, you know, someone like me, uh I had to work a little harder than the most.
• 8:59
  SPEAKER_00: But anyway, I'm rambling.
• 9:00
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 9:01
SPEAKER_00: So I went to the couch.
• 9:05
SPEAKER_00: I said, I'm gonna take me a pollen now.
• 9:07
SPEAKER_00: And when ain't gonna be a long pollen now.
• 9:09
SPEAKER_00: Turn the TV on, make sure, you know, I can hear some voices.
• 9:13
SPEAKER_00: They kind of jerk me back into reality later on.
• 9:17
SPEAKER_00: I went to my phone, I put, I just needed 15 minutes.
• 9:23
SPEAKER_00: Just 15 minutes of interrupted sleep.
• 9:29
  SPEAKER_00: I put on 15 minutes, right?
• 9:32
SPEAKER_00: I made sure I turned my alarm up to something that's annoying.
• 9:37
SPEAKER_00: You know, most times you, if you're like me, you got an alarm that is like RB music, that's not gonna wake me up.
• 9:43
SPEAKER_00: All that's gonna do is change what I'm dreaming about, you know, make me have a better dream.
• 9:47
SPEAKER_00: Or, you know, if I'm listening to some freaking rock and roll or rap or country, depending on what the genre is, it's gonna change the way my dream happened, you know.
• 9:58
SPEAKER_00: Depending on about they might be a combat fighter, they're fighting off the enemy, or I might be in there reggae dancing or something, or reggaeton or doing something like that, or I might be doing the walls, or I might be in a race car, you never know.
• 10:13
SPEAKER_00: I might be, you know, in a track meet running a race.
• 10:15
SPEAKER_00: Depending on what's going on, what's the music playing, it takes me back to a different time, and I dream about that time I was awesome, like I am now.
• 10:25
SPEAKER_00: So um, I put something annoying.
• 10:27
SPEAKER_00: Something annoying that wake me up.
• 10:29
  SPEAKER_00: All I need was 15 minutes.
• 10:30
  SPEAKER_00: So I sit down.
• 10:32
SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take this 15-minute power nap so I can get back up and rejuvenize myself and come back and get to that paper so that when I look at my paper, I look at my book, look at my computer, I can put the three together and push out some good quality work.
• 10:46
  SPEAKER_00: That's what I want to do.
• 10:47
SPEAKER_00: Push out good quality work.
• 10:49
  SPEAKER_00: Um, I sat down.
• 10:52
  SPEAKER_00: I blinked.
• 10:55
SPEAKER_00: I woke up to the sun hitting my face.
• 10:58
SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you know that song, it's morning and the sunlight hit your face.
• 11:05
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the sun was hitting my face.
• 11:08
SPEAKER_00: Now remind you now when I took this power nap, I told you, I just got finished cutting the grass.
• 11:14
SPEAKER_00: So you imagine it had still be daytime, okay?
• 11:18
  SPEAKER_00: When I got finished.
• 11:19
  SPEAKER_00: I went upstairs, took a shower.
• 11:22
SPEAKER_00: Taking a shower takes me maybe I'd say 10 to 20 minutes.
• 11:28
SPEAKER_00: Put lotion on my body, didn't fell asleep on the bed, okay?
• 11:32
SPEAKER_00: Got downstairs, cracked my knuckles, and got ready to type this paper.
• 11:39
SPEAKER_00: Like I said, trying to type the paper, could not concentrate properly.
• 11:42
  SPEAKER_00: I was seeing things.
• 11:43
SPEAKER_00: I was seeing a pillow, I was seeing a bed, I was seeing myself sleep.
• 11:48
SPEAKER_00: I it's almost like I had an out of out-of-body experience while I was seeing myself sleep at the computer.
• 11:53
SPEAKER_00: And I probably was sleeping at the computer, but like I said, this time I didn't fall on a keyboard and you know hit the letter F and sometimes G as I was sitting down.
• 12:04
SPEAKER_00: Um I blinked and it was morning.
• 12:11
SPEAKER_00: And I don't even know how it happened.
• 12:13
SPEAKER_00: I I don't know, I'm trying to figure this out to now.
• 12:16
  SPEAKER_00: So it's like it's a trap.
• 12:20
  SPEAKER_00: That's what it is.
• 12:21
SPEAKER_00: I was just gonna sit down for a minute, it was a trap.
• 12:24
SPEAKER_00: It was an instant sit down, and next thing I know, zero morning, bam, it was the next morning.
• 12:31
SPEAKER_00: Now mine now, I had to turn my horny in that night by 12.
• 12:34
  SPEAKER_00: I missed that deadline.
• 12:36
SPEAKER_00: That deadline has came and has passed.
• 12:40
SPEAKER_00: But I sit down at my computer and had ample time to get that stuff done.
• 12:47
SPEAKER_00: I just failed to wake up and I don't know what happened.
• 12:53
SPEAKER_00: So um, for those of you out there that um keep telling yourself these lies that you can just sit down, take a power nap, I'm here to tell you it's a trap.
• 13:07
  SPEAKER_00: Okay?
• 13:08
  SPEAKER_00: It's a trap.
• 13:09
SPEAKER_00: Like you say on Star Wars, like a what was the Arkbod or whatever his name is, a trap.
• 13:14
SPEAKER_00: Because, well, for me, I don't know about for you, I can't sit down no more these days after a certain time a day and tell myself the lie no more that I'm gonna just sit down and take a power nap just for a minute or two and set my alarm and wake up at a distant time.
• 13:38
SPEAKER_00: Um that dream has gone and has passed.
• 13:42
SPEAKER_00: I need to find a different way or different translation to get this stuff done because now I am the age that um the power nap turn to a full-blown eight-hour session.
• 14:00
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's an eight-hour session.
• 14:01
SPEAKER_00: So let me know what I can do to fix this eight-hour session uh without drinking caffeine.
• 14:09
SPEAKER_00: Because you know, I don't want to be a caffeine high.
• 14:11
  SPEAKER_00: I don't want to start a problem.
• 14:13
SPEAKER_00: No, even though caffeine's delicious, um, and I need to find another way, a better way to fix this.
• 14:20
SPEAKER_00: So until next time, please share, like with your friends.
• 14:26
SPEAKER_00: Thank you for rocking with me.
• 14:28
SPEAKER_00: Topic suggestions are always welcome.
• 14:31
SPEAKER_00: And we're gonna keep it rolling.
• 14:34
SPEAKER_00: I'll see you next time.
