- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Today I want to share a quick story about my dad, and I hope it gives you some inspiration to keep going with your writing.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: My dad, Don Sanders, is a Vietnam veteran, and for years we've talked about putting together a book about his experiences in Vietnam.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: And last year we decided that this was a great time to get started.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: After all, he's 75 and I'm no spring chicken either.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: I'm going to be 50 in a couple years.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: So, Father's Day of last year, 2022, I gave him a nice leather journal and I asked him to start writing down some stories from Vietnam.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I figured that he would write 10 or 20 pages of notes for us to discuss or maybe some, you know, partial memories of stories or some topics he wanted to talk about.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: And then he would verbally tell me the stories because this is how I approach most ghostwriting projects.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: We come up with a book online, I have a list of questions I want to ask about the topic for each chapter, then we just kind of talk through those things.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: However, a couple of months later, when Dad came to my house, he handed me the leather journal.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: And I said, Well, what's this?
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Because I was really confused and I didn't understand why he was giving this back to me.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Then he explained that he'd been working almost every day to write down all his memories from Vietnam.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: So when I opened the journal, I saw that he had filled nearly every page top to bottom.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Then later on, he gave me even more pages that he had written in a notebook.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: So in just a couple of months, Dad had handwritten the first draft of a book, over 200 pages.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: And this from a man who has struggled with multiple health problems from Agent Orange exposure, as well as dealing with arthritis in his hands.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: I am still in awe of this accomplishment.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: So the next time you think that you can't write one more word or you're feeling a little bit tired as a writer, remember my dad, Don Sanders, the Vietnam veteran who handwrote a book in just two months.
