Latest / The Craig Way Show / Texans and Jets and Cowboys...Oh My.
Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: It's the Craig Way Show with the voice of the
- 0:07Speaker 1: Texas Longhorns and Hall of Vaine broadcaster Craig Way.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Okay, now we shift back to the NFL off of
- 0:22Speaker 2: college football, and we'll talk talk some National Football League action.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Texan's playing the night against the Jets. I get the
- 0:31Speaker 2: feeling you're probably not expecting an awful lot to come
- 0:36Speaker 2: out of this deal. Is that the thing?
- 0:39Speaker 1: Maybe? You know, we'll see how this Houston Texans offense looks,
- 0:42Speaker 1: you know, no Nico Collins, no Stefon Diggs. I think
- 0:47Speaker 1: a lot of people kind of expect the Jets. I mean,
- 0:49Speaker 1: this is a must win game for Aaron Rodgers, no Brechton,
- 0:54Speaker 1: this entire staff. So the Jets injuries or the Texans
- 0:57Speaker 1: injuries pulling up? Maybe the Jets could. I mean, the
- 1:00Speaker 1: line is New York is favorite, Craig. They are a
- 1:02Speaker 1: two and six football team playing the Houston Texans, who
- 1:05Speaker 1: are six and two, and New York is favored by
- 1:07Speaker 1: two and a half points. So I think I guess
- 1:09Speaker 1: the betting public just thinks that this is, okay, a
- 1:12Speaker 1: must win game for New York. Injuries piling up for Houston,
- 1:17Speaker 1: maybe the Jets get the win, but I'm not sure.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I mean, the Jets are awful, Craig. I think a
- 1:22Speaker 1: lot of people just assume that with Aaron Rodgers and
- 1:24Speaker 1: the Fonte Adams and Brece Hall and Garrick Wilson, they'll
- 1:28Speaker 1: figure it out. But they lost the New England Patriots.
- 1:31Speaker 1: The New England Patriots. They lost to the New England Patriots.
- 1:34Speaker 1: So they're gonna beat the Houston Texans.
- 1:37Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I don't know, We'll see. I think the Texans are
- 1:39Speaker 1: a really good football team. Maybe this is just one
- 1:41Speaker 1: of those weird losses on a short week, but I
- 1:44Speaker 1: just I can't fathom the Jets being favored in this
- 1:46Speaker 1: game against the Houston Texans.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Here's something else I want to get to get your
- 1:50Speaker 2: thoughts on the trade deadlines coming up in the NFL.
- 1:55Speaker 2: So the deadline for deals, you know, in previous years
- 2:01Speaker 2: came on the Tuesday following the eighth game of the
- 2:04Speaker 2: year after Week eight, but following the offseason vote, the
- 2:08Speaker 2: league pushed back the deadline by one week, so it
- 2:10Speaker 2: gave teams an extra game to evaluate their roster and
- 2:13Speaker 2: their playoff chances before deciding whether or not they wanted
- 2:17Speaker 2: to make a move. Now here's a weird deal. The
- 2:23Speaker 2: Bill Barnwell, who covers the NFL for ESPN, wrote a
- 2:28Speaker 2: piece and it's kind of broken down in the categories
- 2:32Speaker 2: one teams that clearly should add before the deadline. And
- 2:36Speaker 2: in that group he has forty nine Ers, Bears, Bills, Chargers, Chiefs, Commanders, Eagles, Lions, Packers, Ravens, Steelers, Texans, Vikings,
- 2:46Speaker 2: anybody left in the NFL, all right, So he lists
- 2:49Speaker 2: all those. Then he has teams that clearly should subtract
- 2:54Speaker 2: before the deadline, Browns, Giants, Jaguars, Panthers, Patriots, Raiders, Titans.
- 3:00Speaker 2: So he has that and then he goes with and
- 3:02Speaker 2: then he breaks down in the teams of big questions.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Here's where I'm going with you on this deal. If
- 3:10Speaker 2: you watch any of the Sports Center or NFL related programming,
- 3:19Speaker 2: if you watch any of those things and they're talking
- 3:22Speaker 2: about this about the player that just about all of
- 3:26Speaker 2: them are saying hey or asking the question, Hey, well
- 3:29Speaker 2: the Cowboys make a deal. Should the Cowboys make a
- 3:31Speaker 2: deal or the Cowboys definitely going to make a deal.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Here's the deal maybe should be Have you seen or
- 3:37Speaker 2: heard anything anything that would lead you to believe that
- 3:43Speaker 2: would suggest that Jerry Jones and his staff are going
- 3:46Speaker 2: to make a trade. No, just what I don't get.
- 3:48Speaker 2: It's kind of like I always get about this that
- 3:54Speaker 2: in the past, if the logoards were struggling in a
- 3:59Speaker 2: given sport didn't matter the sport, football, basketball, baseball, whatever
- 4:03Speaker 2: it was, and there might be newspaper writers or columnists
- 4:08Speaker 2: or fan site writers or whatever who say, well, coach
- 4:13Speaker 2: so and so should be fired. And then you would say, well,
- 4:19Speaker 2: it isn't going to happen, because the athletic director said
- 4:21Speaker 2: there wasn't going to be a fire. And then the
- 4:23Speaker 2: response was, well they should, and they're injecting opinion into deal.
- 4:28Speaker 2: It's a similar thing here with the Cowboys. Well, everything
- 4:31Speaker 2: I'm reading and hearing says that there are those from
- 4:36Speaker 2: the national media and others who suggest who suggest that
- 4:41Speaker 2: the that the Cowboys should make a trade, or that
- 4:45Speaker 2: they're going to make a trade. But if the response is,
- 4:49Speaker 2: like you and I just talking about, they are they
- 4:52Speaker 2: even hinting thinking about making a trade, I think the
- 4:55Speaker 2: answer is no, which would then prompt the response from
- 4:58Speaker 2: the reporters and analyst, well they should. Whether they should
- 5:02Speaker 2: or not, there's a lot of that should stuff when
- 5:05Speaker 2: they when the Cowboys are referenced, isn't there and Jerry
- 5:07Speaker 2: Jones is reference stuff that just goes undone, unattended, unaddressed,
- 5:13Speaker 2: so to speak. And I think this is another one
- 5:15Speaker 2: of those deals here.
- 5:16Speaker 1: I think it was last week, maybe the week when
- 5:19Speaker 1: he had his when he threatened the fire Shannon Arjay.
- 5:23Speaker 1: But in that same interview on one O five through
- 5:26Speaker 1: the Fan and they talked about you're gonna add anybody,
- 5:29Speaker 1: and he kind of said, to show me, show me
- 5:31Speaker 1: where I can add someone. Show me, like, where can
- 5:33Speaker 1: I get these players? And of course the Chiefs make
- 5:36Speaker 1: a big trade, and the Ravens make a trade, and
- 5:37Speaker 1: then Viking to make a trade. So there, Jerry, you
- 5:40Speaker 1: can trade for other people that that is allowed. But
- 5:44Speaker 1: off of Bill Barrel's article in his verdict is the
- 5:47Speaker 1: Cowboys to subtract the deadline, but will likely add I
- 5:49Speaker 1: don't even know what they should do, correct, I really
- 5:52Speaker 1: don't know. And I think Jerry will, Jerry and Stephen
- 5:55Speaker 1: Jones will hold pat because they're thinking is, by the way,
- 5:59Speaker 1: the Cowboys defense is awful. It's a lot worse than
- 6:01Speaker 1: Dak Prescott. What they're thinking is Okay, they're gonna get
- 6:04Speaker 1: to Ron Blatt back soon, Michaeh Parsons, de Marcus Lawrence.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Maybe that will fix things. I don't think so. If
- 6:11Speaker 1: they aren't gonna make moves, it needs to be on
- 6:13Speaker 1: the defensive side of the ball. Offense, I don't even
- 6:17Speaker 1: know where to start with adding a running back. I mean,
- 6:20Speaker 1: the offensive line needs so much help right tackle has
- 6:23Speaker 1: been awful with Terrence Steele, and then the receivers aren't
- 6:26Speaker 1: great either. But that's a lot of needs for this team,
- 6:30Speaker 1: and I'm not sure if there's anyone out there that
- 6:34Speaker 1: will fix this team from being a three and four
- 6:38Speaker 1: maybe playoff team to a contender. I don't think there's
- 6:41Speaker 1: moves out there, right, and there's moves that you can
- 6:43Speaker 1: make to solely build this team back up, But there's
- 6:46Speaker 1: so much work that needs to be done Craig that
- 6:49Speaker 1: I kind of understand maybe just tearing it down, but
- 6:52Speaker 1: Jerry Jones obviously says he's all in now. I don't
- 6:55Speaker 1: think it matters, and I don't think I would trade
- 6:58Speaker 1: Michael Parsons or DeMarcus Lawrence and do a full rebuild,
- 7:02Speaker 1: because you still have enough talent to win. I think
- 7:04Speaker 1: some coaching and some free agency acquisitions could help fix
- 7:08Speaker 1: this team. But I don't know if I see a
- 7:10Speaker 1: single specific move that would help this team because there's
- 7:14Speaker 1: so many issues at receiver, at running back, at offensive line,
- 7:19Speaker 1: defensive line, linebacker, secondary, I don't I don't know where
- 7:23Speaker 1: you start. So there's a lot of work to be
- 7:26Speaker 1: done for this Cowboys.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you make a great point when you're
- 7:30Speaker 2: talking about most of the general conventional wisdom, whatever you
- 7:36Speaker 2: want to call it, is that the Cowboys need to
- 7:41Speaker 2: make deals if they're if they're really going to be
- 7:43Speaker 2: a bona fide contender. Goes back to what we were
- 7:44Speaker 2: talking about yesterday when Jerry was on on that radio
- 7:49Speaker 2: program on Tuesday when he said, we have the people
- 7:54Speaker 2: here to get it done, and I believe that we
- 7:56Speaker 2: can turn this around and have this big story, but
- 8:00Speaker 2: finish and all this sort of stuff, and that sound
- 8:03Speaker 2: bite was played on one of the NFL programs, I
- 8:06Speaker 2: believe on ESPN. It was on one of the networks,
- 8:09Speaker 2: and the analysts were laughing, literally laughing. It's like, no,
- 8:14Speaker 2: they don't, they don't have the pieces. So then it's
- 8:18Speaker 2: going to come down to the difference of opinion. Do
- 8:21Speaker 2: you believe you have the pieces in place to make
- 8:24Speaker 2: a run. Jerry says they do, which makes you think
- 8:27Speaker 2: then that he's not going to make a deal. The
- 8:31Speaker 2: national analysts and pundits say they don't and that's why
- 8:36Speaker 2: Jerry should make a deal. But it doesn't sound like
- 8:38Speaker 2: that's in the offing, if only because Jerry believes they've
- 8:41Speaker 2: got the pieces in place to turn this around, especially
- 8:45Speaker 2: once you get a couple of guys healthy in back.
- 8:47Speaker 2: You mentioned Ron Bland. Once they get guys back and healthy,
- 8:50Speaker 2: he believes they got the pieces together to make a run.
- 8:54Speaker 2: You don't.
- 8:55Speaker 1: I think he does. I think that's his thinking. Offensively,
- 8:58Speaker 1: there's no injuries. Offense just sucks. That's it. The offense
- 9:02Speaker 1: just sucks. So if there's gonna be any moves, it
- 9:04Speaker 1: might be offensively. But what are you gonna do? Trade
- 9:07Speaker 1: for Mike Williams and he's not gonna solve anything you're
- 9:09Speaker 1: gonna trade for. I don't know what running back is
- 9:13Speaker 1: out there. The offensive line and run blocking has been pathetic, awful.
- 9:18Speaker 2: They just don't have anybody that can really run the ball.
- 9:20Speaker 2: I think they've got enough receiving talent to try to
- 9:24Speaker 2: make them a contender, but without proper Yeah, run talent.
- 9:27Speaker 1: What differences with Brooks and Tolbert and for Andy, They're
- 9:32Speaker 1: not gonna add anybody because they believe that they can
- 9:34Speaker 1: develop those receivers, and you know that might just be
- 9:38Speaker 1: the Cowboys be naive.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, we'll be back. We've got a few
- 9:43Speaker 2: final comments. We'll get to those. A reminder coming up
- 9:45Speaker 2: at six o'clock tonight will be Long Worn Weekly, a
- 9:49Speaker 2: special basketball preview edition with Long Wornon's head coach Rodney
- 9:53Speaker 2: Terry Ramber. The Long Wort's open the season on Monday
- 9:55Speaker 2: night in Las Vegas against Ohio State and the Hall
- 9:57Speaker 2: of Fame Classic there. So we'll have a few final
- 10:00Speaker 2: notes coming up. That's six o'clock tonight at Pluckers the
- 10:04Speaker 2: West Campus location at twenty two twenty two Rio Grand
- 10:06Speaker 2: and heard right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen under
- 10:08Speaker 2: the Zone.
