- 0:18Speaker 2: The World's a virginal podcast.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:29Speaker 3: He's a fan favorite, and I think you plic I
- 0:32Speaker 3: give more credit to the fans. I'm waiting for.
- 0:34Speaker 2: That to prove military is on the ballot. He will
- 0:36Speaker 2: go along.
- 0:36Speaker 3: We've been doing this.
- 0:37Speaker 2: I tell the story about going to Nashville for a
- 0:39Speaker 2: conference and I was in the first row, a woman
- 0:42Speaker 2: and her son sitting next to me, and I hear
- 0:44Speaker 2: the woman say, why do they just keep nominating? He's
- 0:47Speaker 2: never gonna get in. Why don't they just take his
- 0:48Speaker 2: name off? And I realized it was Rabel's wife and
- 0:51Speaker 2: his son.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Will Campbell was not good at his position. That's a
- 0:54Speaker 3: bust of a pick.
- 0:55Speaker 4: He plays guard.
- 0:56Speaker 3: I know when that's but that's not good value.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Get about the bas but we've already established that isn't
- 1:04Speaker 2: there in this draft.
- 1:05Speaker 3: If Mason Graham is not a very good defensive tackle,
- 1:08Speaker 3: he's going to continue to play defensive tackle. They're not
- 1:10Speaker 3: just gonna cut up, but he's not going to be
- 1:11Speaker 3: good at it, just like the guy who can't play time.
- 1:14Speaker 2: He can be good at guard. And there's a program
- 1:17Speaker 2: in Peloton where you can choose to you can choose
- 1:19Speaker 2: to ride to like cities or whatever, and one of
- 1:22Speaker 2: the options was Marseille, France.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Eric would like that the attention that the steward is
- 1:29Speaker 4: it's about It is.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Just Steward they call him.
- 1:34Speaker 5: Yeah. This is Patriot's Unfiltered.
- 1:37Speaker 6: Presented by Toyota's official website for deals by a Toyota
- 1:41Speaker 6: dot com.
- 1:44Speaker 2: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:47Speaker 2: at Jillette Stadium, and it's Paul, it's Evan, It's myself, Deuce, Alex,
- 1:53Speaker 2: Matt and Nabooth and we're here for the next two
- 1:56Speaker 2: hours talking Patriots, Big news day. The news just keeps.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I'm here in the off season.
- 2:01Speaker 7: Sure.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Yeah. Joe Milton no longer a Patriot according to reports.
- 2:08Speaker 8: Yeah, funny because we recorded Patriots Draft countdown yesterday and
- 2:13Speaker 8: posted it and we had the exact discussion of is
- 2:16Speaker 8: it worth it to trade him?
- 2:17Speaker 9: Now?
- 2:17Speaker 8: What kind of value would you want back? And I
- 2:20Speaker 8: think based on what we said yesterday before, maybe a
- 2:23Speaker 8: little bit disappointed with the return.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Are we certain on what that is?
- 2:27Speaker 4: I don't know how we know that. It's pick one
- 2:31Speaker 4: seventy one for pick two seventeen and Joe Milton. So
- 2:34Speaker 4: the Patriots now have one to seventy one in the
- 2:37Speaker 4: fifth round in the fifth round, correct, which was a
- 2:40Speaker 4: compick for Dallas, okay, And.
- 2:42Speaker 8: That does close a sizeable gap that the team had
- 2:46Speaker 8: between their other picks. So I mean, I'm not you know,
- 2:48Speaker 8: yesterday we all said, I mean, I think Paul you said, Evan,
- 2:50Speaker 8: you said top one hundred pick. Paul, you said top
- 2:53Speaker 8: from day one or.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Two two pick. Yeah, the day two pick is what
- 2:56Speaker 3: I if I was going to move him because he's young,
- 2:59Speaker 3: he's affordable, and if you want to continue to work
- 3:01Speaker 3: with him, isn't that more valuable than moving him for
- 3:04Speaker 3: a swap of what would you say about forty forty
- 3:07Speaker 3: spots something like that? Now, you know, I wonder if
- 3:12Speaker 3: maybe they had felt like we can have a chance
- 3:16Speaker 3: to get something for him. Now, let's let's take it,
- 3:18Speaker 3: and uh, you know, maybe they didn't see the value
- 3:21Speaker 3: that we kind of saw, you know, after the Buffalo
- 3:24Speaker 3: game last year.
- 3:25Speaker 2: So I go back to our conversation when Joe Milton
- 3:29Speaker 2: first got drafted, and you're bringing up why they do this?
- 3:33Speaker 2: Why are they bringing.
- 3:34Speaker 3: In the back of my mind all morning?
- 3:36Speaker 2: Yeah, So now two years later, is it maybe you know,
- 3:41Speaker 2: we don't need that distraction.
- 3:43Speaker 3: I wonder. Yeah, that's why I said. It's been in
- 3:44Speaker 3: the back of my mind.
- 3:45Speaker 8: One year later, That's why I know about it.
- 3:48Speaker 4: That's the only explanation I can get to that makes
- 3:50Speaker 4: logical sense to me is that they wanted to clear
- 3:53Speaker 4: the decks for Drake May and make sure that there
- 3:55Speaker 4: was no mac Jones Bailey's Appy two point zero potentially,
- 4:00Speaker 4: and they felt like this was the best approach. You
- 4:02Speaker 4: have Josh Dobbs, who's a veteran backup that he knows
- 4:06Speaker 4: his role and knows where he fits on the team.
- 4:08Speaker 4: And it's Drake May's team, it's Drake May's quarterback room,
- 4:11Speaker 4: and there's no you know, Joe Milton in the background.
- 4:14Speaker 4: I'm the same Joe Milton did anything wrong.
- 4:16Speaker 2: And don't rule out his agent like going to Patriots
- 4:19Speaker 2: and say, hey, we want to trade you know, he's
- 4:23Speaker 2: now third in the pecking order, should be second, whatever.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Don't rule that out that the agent's part of this too,
- 4:28Speaker 2: Like I want to get him on a team where
- 4:30Speaker 2: he at least has a better chance to.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Get a great point. Fred I wouldn't be shocked at
- 4:34Speaker 3: all if Milton was driving this.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true.
- 4:36Speaker 4: Yeah, there are a little bit of reporting in that. Yeah.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Mass Live has a couple of reports about that that
- 4:42Speaker 4: potentially Joe Milton was I don't know, wanted to use
- 4:45Speaker 4: requested to trade, but maybe it was kind of like
- 4:47Speaker 4: where do I fit into this entire thing? But I
- 4:50Speaker 4: just look at he's going to doubts like a sixty
- 4:53Speaker 4: million dollars quarterback, Like it's not like he's going to
- 4:55Speaker 4: start in Dallas. So I look at the way that
- 4:57Speaker 4: Vrabel has moved all off season, and I just think
- 5:00Speaker 4: that he cares a lot about the dynamic of the
- 5:02Speaker 4: locker room and the culture and you know that sort
- 5:05Speaker 4: of thing. And I think they felt like there was
- 5:07Speaker 4: a potential tension that could be caused there by Joe Milton.
- 5:11Speaker 4: And if you keep him around and he has a
- 5:14Speaker 4: great preseason and a great training camp.
- 5:16Speaker 8: Distraction, it's a destroyer.
- 5:18Speaker 4: It might have helped his trade value, but it might
- 5:20Speaker 4: have also been a distraction.
- 5:21Speaker 5: Yep.
- 5:21Speaker 2: So Joe Milton off the team. We can put that
- 5:26Speaker 2: one to bed. That whole discussion. It's now the Josh
- 5:30Speaker 2: Dobbs era here for the back ups.
- 5:33Speaker 8: Get ready. I also just wanted to point out there
- 5:35Speaker 8: also reports that the Patriots had better compensation offers but
- 5:40Speaker 8: chose to send him to Dallas because that's where Milton
- 5:42Speaker 8: wanted to play. So that's also a report that's out there.
- 5:45Speaker 3: So Freddy and I were playing a little catch up
- 5:48Speaker 3: on some of this stuff. I find that one really
- 5:50Speaker 3: interesting and really not shockingly hard to believe.
- 5:54Speaker 10: I find it hard to believe too, because like, you're gonna,
- 5:57Speaker 10: out of respect to a guy that was on your
- 5:59Speaker 10: team for one year, You're gonna send him to a
- 6:01Speaker 10: desirable place, but then you're just gonna cut Juwan Bentley,
- 6:04Speaker 10: who's a long time captain at like week after free agencies.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Not only a guy that has been on the team
- 6:10Speaker 3: for one year, but a guy that they didn't really
- 6:12Speaker 3: have this coaching staff didn't really have a connection to.
- 6:15Speaker 10: Like what do you owe Joe Milton?
- 6:17Speaker 3: Yeah? I mean I think this might be one of
- 6:20Speaker 3: those semantics things like maybe someone was willing to offer them,
- 6:23Speaker 3: you know, a sixth round pick without a pick swap,
- 6:25Speaker 3: or you know, a fifth round pick maybe without a
- 6:27Speaker 3: bike something they.
- 6:28Speaker 8: Left a squirt rounder on the table. Correct, But it'll
- 6:32Speaker 8: be interesting. We're gonna hear from from Josh McDaniels at
- 6:34Speaker 8: one o'clock and I'm sure.
- 6:36Speaker 2: That'll go to that question on the show. So when
- 6:38Speaker 2: Josh McDaniels is speaking today, a lot going on. Yeah,
- 6:41Speaker 2: the offensive coaches are speaking in a scrum setting, but
- 6:46Speaker 2: the coordinators are going to the podium. So Josh is
- 6:49Speaker 2: falling during the show. So we're going to go to
- 6:50Speaker 2: him live when he's up at the podium, you know,
- 6:53Speaker 2: hear what he has to say.
- 6:54Speaker 8: Yeah, I think if it's all right, Evan and I
- 6:55Speaker 8: will go. And also just listening, all right, want to
- 7:00Speaker 8: listen in on the offensive coaches. We haven't met the
- 7:02Speaker 8: offensive coaches yet in person, so it'll be a first chance.
- 7:06Speaker 8: You know, they don't know who the deuce is yet, right,
- 7:10Speaker 8: do you think he's gonna ask the tough question?
- 7:14Speaker 3: So I would admit to being a little surprised that
- 7:16Speaker 3: the Milton thing came down the way it did, not
- 7:18Speaker 3: the compensation anything like that. That to me is about what
- 7:21Speaker 3: I was expecting something day three issue. But I thought
- 7:25Speaker 3: they would hold on to him. I was I'm a
- 7:27Speaker 3: little surprised they made the trade.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Well, it's interesting because the news broke while Paul and
- 7:32Speaker 2: I were in the Hall of Fame committee, and I
- 7:34Speaker 2: saw a couple of scribes having to scratch them. Yeah,
- 7:40Speaker 2: did you see him.
- 7:41Speaker 8: Throw the ball?
- 7:42Speaker 4: And I just think the compensation it doesn't surprise me
- 7:47Speaker 4: in the respect that he didn't have the market that
- 7:49Speaker 4: some people were throwing out there. It surprises me that
- 7:52Speaker 4: the Patriots were in a rush to trade him if
- 7:54Speaker 4: that was all the compensation was, That's what I'm saying,
- 7:57Speaker 4: and I just the only thing that makes any sense
- 8:00Speaker 4: is that they were worried about the dynamics in the
- 8:02Speaker 4: locker room because there's no rush to trade him. He's
- 8:05Speaker 4: on a rookie contract, he's cost controlled. This wasn't an
- 8:08Speaker 4: offer that was blowing you away that you were like, oh,
- 8:10Speaker 4: we have to take this third round pick for Joe Milton.
- 8:13Speaker 4: So Vrabel's big on it. He's clearly big on all
- 8:16Speaker 4: this culture stuff. And that's the only explanation because the
- 8:19Speaker 4: compensation is not great.
- 8:21Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm a little torn on it because I've said
- 8:23Speaker 8: many times I believe draft a quarterback almost every year.
- 8:26Speaker 8: It's just great business to always draft one develop them.
- 8:29Speaker 8: But on the other hand, like I'm seeing that, you
- 8:31Speaker 8: can always get something for you can always kind of
- 8:33Speaker 8: just if they're okay and you do decent job developing,
- 8:35Speaker 8: you can at least tread water and get essentially the
- 8:39Speaker 8: same compensation back that you spend on him. So you're
- 8:41Speaker 8: running in place a little bit, but there's still value there.
- 8:44Speaker 8: And I think they might draft a quarterback this year.
- 8:46Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know if this is true, but
- 8:48Speaker 2: is there like a maxim in the league where quarterbacks
- 8:52Speaker 2: rarely lose value?
- 8:54Speaker 8: You know, Well, that's where my head is that. I
- 8:57Speaker 8: think we saw Joe Milton in the preseason in the
- 8:59Speaker 8: training can whereas up and down it was looked pretty
- 9:03Speaker 8: good seven on seven. I remember being like, and that
- 9:05Speaker 8: was what I think Ben Volan wrote, like, we have
- 9:07Speaker 8: a true coul quarterback.
- 9:08Speaker 3: It's the best quarterback in camp.
- 9:10Speaker 8: And then all of a sudden it was eleven on
- 9:11Speaker 8: eleven and Joe Milton had a little more trouble and
- 9:14Speaker 8: wasn't processing as quick, but he looked better to me
- 9:16Speaker 8: in that last game. I know some people are making
- 9:18Speaker 8: him out like it was you know, God's gift in
- 9:20Speaker 8: the final game.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I'm a big fan of taking a
- 9:23Speaker 3: quarterback every year, and I would be surprised if they
- 9:25Speaker 3: didn't find one somewhere this year as well. I mean,
- 9:28Speaker 3: they only have two now on the roster. I mean,
- 9:29Speaker 3: obviously he'll bring somebody. Well, I shouldn't say obviously, I
- 9:32Speaker 3: would expect them to bring someone in yep, regardless of
- 9:35Speaker 3: whether he's drafted or not. But yeah, I mean this one,
- 9:38Speaker 3: you know, in terms of you know, quarterback commodity, maybe
- 9:43Speaker 3: this one didn't pan out to give you anything more
- 9:45Speaker 3: than what you took, but that shouldn't stop you every
- 9:49Speaker 3: year from thinking in those terms. You might be able
- 9:51Speaker 3: to draft a quarterback, develop him, and get a little
- 9:53Speaker 3: bit more for him then you invested in them.
- 9:56Speaker 4: But I also just don't think that they sold as
- 9:58Speaker 4: high on the investment as they possibly can.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's why I think that you and Fred
- 10:02Speaker 3: might be right about the off field aspect of this
- 10:05Speaker 3: with Drake. May just sort of clearing the decks. Don't
- 10:08Speaker 3: give Drake anything. You know, if Drake is all of
- 10:10Speaker 3: a sudden, let's say he struggles in the middle of September,
- 10:12Speaker 3: two or three starts in, he's not playing very well,
- 10:14Speaker 3: you know that you're going to hear it.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Yeah, well put in Milton.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Look and he did against Buffalo last year, you'd hear
- 10:19Speaker 3: that absolutely, So maybe that had part of it, part
- 10:22Speaker 3: of the reasoning too.
- 10:23Speaker 4: Yeah, this was always when we talked about it when
- 10:25Speaker 4: they drafted him, like this was he is a he
- 10:29Speaker 4: has a lot of tools, and the tools are enticing.
- 10:31Speaker 4: The arm strength is enticing, the size, the mobility with
- 10:34Speaker 4: Joe Milton is all enticing. And if they draft another quarterback,
- 10:39Speaker 4: you'd have to think that would be more in that
- 10:41Speaker 4: like backup mold, like someone that's truly, you know, not
- 10:44Speaker 4: really gonna have the high end trades that Joe Milton
- 10:47Speaker 4: has because, like we talked about then, you know, you
- 10:49Speaker 4: see him throw one seventy yard bomb where he hits
- 10:52Speaker 4: the back foot and the ball just launched out of
- 10:54Speaker 4: his arm, and you're just like, that's an incredible throw
- 10:57Speaker 4: and it's like it's attractive, it's tande. And now we
- 11:01Speaker 4: get to the point here where I feel like that
- 11:04Speaker 4: kind of came to fruition with that Buffalo game. So
- 11:07Speaker 4: it's just a weird timing if you ask me, other
- 11:09Speaker 4: unless that's it, unless it's dynamic, any.
- 11:11Speaker 8: Chance they were just trying to protect the lighthouse. Fred,
- 11:13Speaker 8: is that something that might have been on the dock
- 11:15Speaker 8: at They just don't want Joe Milton launching a bomb
- 11:17Speaker 8: through that light.
- 11:18Speaker 2: One of those windows. Yeah, could be another news. Paul
- 11:23Speaker 2: and I were just at the Hall of Fame committee
- 11:25Speaker 2: and that just broke up as always, was not nominated.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Very good, very good conversation. I can tell you who
- 11:35Speaker 2: I'm my first selection is going to be?
- 11:37Speaker 11: Or was?
- 11:37Speaker 2: Is Adam Vinitari?
- 11:40Speaker 3: So that was mine as well?
- 11:42Speaker 2: Yeah, So, I you know, I think the time is
- 11:45Speaker 2: to get him in right now. I think he got
- 11:47Speaker 2: lucky that he didn't get into the Hall of Fame
- 11:49Speaker 2: kind of you know, selfishly, because now you can get
- 11:51Speaker 2: him into the Patriots Hall of Fame before Canton. So
- 11:55Speaker 2: this is that opportunity. Let's do Let's do it. I
- 11:58Speaker 2: think the voting will be on patriotes dot com probably
- 12:01Speaker 2: next week. Uh so everybody vote for Adam minitary.
- 12:05Speaker 8: Was there any need for discussion about Bill Parcells? I
- 12:08Speaker 8: know Robert Kraft is already putting him in, But did
- 12:10Speaker 8: you guys have to talk about that at all?
- 12:11Speaker 5: Or no?
- 12:12Speaker 3: So Robert Craft did come by and sort of explain
- 12:14Speaker 3: to everybody actually apologized to the committee for doing it,
- 12:17Speaker 3: you know, sort of without our knowledge. Obviously, no need
- 12:21Speaker 3: to do that. He can do it actually because his team,
- 12:26Speaker 3: so no, we don't. We do not discuss the contributors
- 12:30Speaker 3: that are named by Robert Craft. That's just sort of
- 12:33Speaker 3: separate editing. But yeah, Robert Craft and Mike Rabel came
- 12:37Speaker 3: by the meeting.
- 12:38Speaker 2: They might.
- 12:40Speaker 3: I looked around.
- 12:41Speaker 2: He was a little record.
- 12:44Speaker 3: He was a little disappointed because I think when he
- 12:46Speaker 3: started to talk and he kind of made a crack
- 12:48Speaker 3: at the beginning, and there was nobody standing right behind
- 12:51Speaker 3: him laughing with their arms folded.
- 12:53Speaker 8: I'm available, such as yeah.
- 12:58Speaker 2: But you know, no, he was good.
- 12:59Speaker 3: He can't by and talked about kind of being that
- 13:02Speaker 3: you know, Susan Lucci type that was always nominated and
- 13:04Speaker 3: never won until he finally.
- 13:06Speaker 2: I thought it was funny though, like Robert comes in
- 13:08Speaker 2: and you know, people are like, oh good. You know,
- 13:10Speaker 2: Rabel comes in after him. He goes good morning. Anyone's
- 13:12Speaker 2: like good morning, coach, got coach big. He has that presence.
- 13:21Speaker 2: I have a bone to pick though with your guy,
- 13:25Speaker 2: mister Mike Felger. I often get pissed off at what
- 13:28Speaker 2: he says because.
- 13:32Speaker 3: That's why I spoke about I always didn't say anything.
- 13:36Speaker 2: I mean, you know, I listened to the show. I
- 13:38Speaker 2: find it entertaining. It's my go to show. I admit that.
- 13:42Speaker 2: But you know there's times where I hear Felger saying
- 13:44Speaker 2: things and I know the truth, and it's just so
- 13:47Speaker 2: aggravating to hear him repeat things. And and you know,
- 13:50Speaker 2: yesterday's show, he didn't say that the Hall of Committee
- 13:55Speaker 2: voting is rigged or anything, but he didn't say it
- 13:57Speaker 2: wasn't either. And I the fact that he allows to
- 14:00Speaker 2: perpetuate I wouldn't you know, if you think it's rigged,
- 14:03Speaker 2: I can't blame you for thinking that, like going on
- 14:05Speaker 2: and on, you've gotta send our guy in. It just
- 14:09Speaker 2: pisses on her. It just pisses me off, because Paul
- 14:12Speaker 2: knows that if anything, the people in the room are
- 14:15Speaker 2: afraid what the fans are going to vote. It's not
- 14:18Speaker 2: there is no thumb on the scale. There's no rigging
- 14:21Speaker 2: of this. This is once the three people are set,
- 14:24Speaker 2: you know, put forth by the committee, it is one
- 14:27Speaker 2: hundred percent up to the fans on who gets in.
- 14:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I blame the committee just as much as the fans.
- 14:33Speaker 3: I'm an opportunity ripper. Yeah, hi, rip everybody.
- 14:36Speaker 2: But like you know, on the highest rated sports show
- 14:39Speaker 2: in Boston, you know, they're kind of not you know,
- 14:43Speaker 2: saying that that could be a factor. And it just
- 14:45Speaker 2: pissed me off to no when yesterday.
- 14:47Speaker 8: To hear that call in Freddy in the car call.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Yeah, but you know fred not like he's never done
- 14:53Speaker 3: it before. He's argued with with Felger right here in
- 14:56Speaker 3: this very studio.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that was before he was he was anybody.
- 15:00Speaker 2: He was just a guy on AM radio at the time.
- 15:03Speaker 8: I told Paul when I was at the owner's meetings
- 15:05Speaker 8: earlier this week, we were there very early in the
- 15:07Speaker 8: morning and we went and saw where they had stuck
- 15:09Speaker 8: Felger on I was saying quotes radio row because it
- 15:12Speaker 8: was kind of an afterthought. But I took one look
- 15:15Speaker 8: at that table. There's like a dumpster there, there's like
- 15:17Speaker 8: three generators all going, and like, oh, this isn't gonna
- 15:19Speaker 8: fly for Felgers. A rough radio setup, but good stuff.
- 15:24Speaker 2: I give him credit for going down there and thinking,
- 15:26Speaker 2: I don't know if it was his idea, but doing
- 15:28Speaker 2: that and taking advantage of it, because you got you
- 15:30Speaker 2: got you know, goot some good guests.
- 15:32Speaker 8: Yeah yeah, brighton early I saw Seth Rabes and walking
- 15:35Speaker 8: over to do the interview, and but we didn't see
- 15:38Speaker 8: we didn't see Felger show off to the little scrummer
- 15:39Speaker 8: on the table though he waited. Came back for the party,
- 15:41Speaker 8: though he was there for the party.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Oh he did come back there for the party.
- 15:44Speaker 5: Oh wow.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Hold some people, he says, Yeah, what else,
- 15:52Speaker 2: Hall of Fame Committee anything.
- 15:53Speaker 8: I was just I mean, I not to reiterate, but
- 15:56Speaker 8: like I'm excited to hear from the coaches today. We haven't,
- 15:58Speaker 8: like I said, we haven't met any of these guys.
- 16:00Speaker 8: We haven't gotten any sense of Josh and what are
- 16:03Speaker 8: thought his thoughts on Drake and the evolution of the offense.
- 16:06Speaker 8: I think he's had a lot of people speaking for
- 16:08Speaker 8: him about how he's approaching this, what he learned on
- 16:10Speaker 8: these college visits that he did over the last year.
- 16:13Speaker 8: It's it's funny. It's it's like one of those characters
- 16:15Speaker 8: all of a sudden comes back to the show that
- 16:17Speaker 8: you haven't seen in a couple of years, and what
- 16:20Speaker 8: has he learned, what's different? How does he feel to
- 16:21Speaker 8: be there? So it's gonna be cool. I think to
- 16:24Speaker 8: hear from Josh McDaniels again, it's it's just I keep
- 16:26Speaker 8: forgetting that he's back. It was like, it's such a
- 16:28Speaker 8: fixture here for so long, it's a big thing. But
- 16:31Speaker 8: it's like all of a sudden, it's like, oh, yeah,
- 16:32Speaker 8: Josh is back, he's the offensive coordinator again. I yeah,
- 16:35Speaker 8: totally forgot.
- 16:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm sure there'll be a lot of questions about
- 16:38Speaker 4: the dynamic there. And you know where you Rabel's guy,
- 16:41Speaker 4: and Rabel has mentioned a lot about Todd Downing and
- 16:44Speaker 4: Thomas Brown and Doug Moron having large roles in some
- 16:48Speaker 4: of the coordination frankly of the offense, and so I
- 16:51Speaker 4: am interested to see how that goes all goes down.
- 16:54Speaker 4: And the Patriots have never had a pass game coordinator before.
- 16:57Speaker 4: Thomas Brown has got that title now. So it's kind
- 17:01Speaker 4: of like the office space meme, like what is it
- 17:03Speaker 4: that you do around here? Like, I don't know what
- 17:05Speaker 4: that really means. People skill, I'm kind of skill to
- 17:07Speaker 4: hear what that what that exactly entails to him in
- 17:12Speaker 4: terms of that role. And you know, Ashton Grant is
- 17:15Speaker 4: now Drake May's code, you know, quarterbacks coach so that's
- 17:18Speaker 4: another new face. So you know it's a whole reworked
- 17:22Speaker 4: coaching staff.
- 17:23Speaker 8: Have space No another one.
- 17:27Speaker 10: Four after Jaws.
- 17:29Speaker 4: I mean it's I mean, it's way better than Jaws.
- 17:33Speaker 4: I would watch it.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Had to watch Off the Space twice. The first time,
- 17:37Speaker 2: I was like, what is the big deal about this movie?
- 17:39Speaker 2: But then I watched a second and I was like, Okay,
- 17:43Speaker 2: that's fine, but there's there's some memorable moments in it
- 17:47Speaker 2: that are kind of me.
- 17:49Speaker 8: I guess that brought up or when they.
- 17:54Speaker 4: The computer, Yeah, yeah.
- 17:55Speaker 8: Oh yeah. Uh.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Let's go to some of the reactions for Milton. As
- 18:00Speaker 2: you might expect, there are a lot of fans who
- 18:02Speaker 2: aren't happy. Lesson Ottawa. Just wanted to begin by telling
- 18:07Speaker 2: you how much I enjoy the show, even if Paul
- 18:08Speaker 2: is the most persistently negative person I've ever heard, speaking
- 18:12Speaker 2: of which I would be interested in your take on
- 18:14Speaker 2: the Milton trade being announced. If it's true, this seems
- 18:18Speaker 2: like the kind of trade a desperate team would make,
- 18:20Speaker 2: not a team with a valuable asset they didn't have
- 18:22Speaker 2: to trade at all. Milton and a seventh round pick
- 18:25Speaker 2: for a fifth seems like a gift to the Cowboys
- 18:27Speaker 2: after a disastrous for a season as the upside de
- 18:31Speaker 2: facto GM? How does Elliott will survive such a terrible trade?
- 18:35Speaker 2: Is it time for him to go? Do you think
- 18:37Speaker 2: the Cowboys would give us back to seventh for him? Wow?
- 18:41Speaker 8: I'm going to jump in real quick. I don't know
- 18:42Speaker 8: why people get this angry about it, and I know
- 18:44Speaker 8: there might be people on the show that are angry
- 18:46Speaker 8: about it. I just can't get that worked out about
- 18:48Speaker 8: a Day three trade with a third string quarterback, Like
- 18:51Speaker 8: you cannot like the trade? Great? But is it like
- 18:54Speaker 8: a referendum on everything they're doing? Does that overshadow signing
- 18:57Speaker 8: Stefan Diggs last week? Now you're all worked up about.
- 19:00Speaker 2: I don't know if the person's being sarcastic, but.
- 19:04Speaker 3: I don't think that was sarcastic, Okay, And I would
- 19:07Speaker 3: just say because the reason I don't think that email
- 19:09Speaker 3: is sarcastic is because it's in line with a lot
- 19:11Speaker 3: of what I'm seeing leading up to this trade and now,
- 19:15Speaker 3: and because it operates under a flawed premise. Quote unquote,
- 19:20Speaker 3: that's all you got for Joe Milton, right as if
- 19:23Speaker 3: you're right, everybody in the NFL is wrong. He's really
- 19:26Speaker 3: worth a second round pick. He's really worth. He could
- 19:29Speaker 3: have gone to the Giants, so you could flip flop
- 19:32Speaker 3: from four to three so you could take Travis Hunter.
- 19:34Speaker 3: That's what people were legitimately suggesting. So if that's your premise,
- 19:39Speaker 3: no wonder you think I'm the most negative person you've
- 19:41Speaker 3: ever seen. But it's what I'm here to tell you.
- 19:44Speaker 3: You're going to get a Day three pick for you.
- 19:45Speaker 3: That comes off as negative, but that's reality.
- 19:47Speaker 4: Right, and so much of it. It just surprises me
- 19:50Speaker 4: about that, in particular because every single person I know
- 19:54Speaker 4: covers the team pushed back on the notion that it
- 19:57Speaker 4: was going to.
- 19:57Speaker 3: Be everyone, and I often critical of my car, I
- 20:01Speaker 3: mean everyone Evan.
- 20:03Speaker 4: So like, I don't know where that was coming from,
- 20:06Speaker 4: that they were going to get this King's Ransom from
- 20:08Speaker 4: Joe Milton, because it certainly wasn't coming from anybody here.
- 20:11Speaker 2: It came from that last game.
- 20:12Speaker 4: But I know, but like, where was the actual tangible
- 20:15Speaker 4: evidence that they were going to get that kind of return,
- 20:18Speaker 4: Like every single reporter I know on this beat said,
- 20:22Speaker 4: it's not going to be as much as you think
- 20:24Speaker 4: it's going to be. When people have mock drafts or
- 20:26Speaker 4: Joe Milton. To Paul's point, it's getting them like the
- 20:29Speaker 4: first overall pick by swapping.
- 20:31Speaker 3: To the Giants, so you can get one of the
- 20:33Speaker 3: two blue chip players by giving the Giants Joe Milton,
- 20:37Speaker 3: they don't have to take Sanders. Now that what you said.
- 20:40Speaker 4: I agreed that with some of the email, not a
- 20:44Speaker 4: lot of it, but some that the trade was a
- 20:46Speaker 4: little hasty, Like there was I didn't see any reason
- 20:49Speaker 4: to do this other than if you were, like I
- 20:51Speaker 4: keep saying, worried about the dynamic in the quarterback room,
- 20:55Speaker 4: because otherwise, you have a cheap cost controlled rookie contract
- 20:59Speaker 4: quarterback that signed for the next three years. You have
- 21:02Speaker 4: a lot of rope there to hopefully get his value
- 21:05Speaker 4: even higher, like maybe he plays really well in the
- 21:08Speaker 4: preseason next year and maybe somebody gets hurt and you know,
- 21:12Speaker 4: on another team, or a backup quarterback gets hurt around
- 21:15Speaker 4: the league or whatever, and maybe you get more in
- 21:18Speaker 4: the trade. So the fact that they did it now
- 21:20Speaker 4: tells me that there was some dynamic.
- 21:22Speaker 10: How Toy, Yeah, well, I feel like since the second
- 21:24Speaker 10: the offseason ended or the offseason started, we'd been hearing
- 21:27Speaker 10: that he kind of wasn't thrilled with his position on
- 21:29Speaker 10: the depth chart, he probably wanted out, and obviously that
- 21:33Speaker 10: was continuing up until last week.
- 21:35Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 21:36Speaker 10: Maybe we saw this guy play one game, right, like
- 21:39Speaker 10: these guys evaluating him saw in practice every single day.
- 21:42Speaker 10: Maybe in their eyes we sold high, right.
- 21:44Speaker 3: I kind of think you're right. I think if they
- 21:47Speaker 3: looked at it and said, the longer we wait, yeah,
- 21:51Speaker 3: the less value has now. I think that Fred's point
- 21:55Speaker 3: in Evan's point about that the off field stuff probably
- 21:58Speaker 3: has a big part to do with This may not
- 22:00Speaker 3: have been strictly a football trade. It may have been
- 22:02Speaker 3: as much about that as anything else, but that doesn't
- 22:05Speaker 3: change his value. Just because you want to trade a guy,
- 22:10Speaker 3: maybe not for football reasons, doesn't mean you get that's
- 22:13Speaker 3: the only thing you get back fro him. You can
- 22:17Speaker 3: get as much as you want back from him. I
- 22:19Speaker 3: can't believe that they had like someone was offering something
- 22:22Speaker 3: significantly more than they took, they chose to do that.
- 22:26Speaker 4: No, I don't think that there was an offer for
- 22:29Speaker 4: anything more than what they took. But this, to me,
- 22:31Speaker 4: wasn't worth trading him like a quarterback.
- 22:35Speaker 3: You I would have because I think that there was
- 22:37Speaker 3: a chance, Like I think you could was going to
- 22:40Speaker 3: be even if nothing all the year, you probably could
- 22:44Speaker 3: have made this trade this time next year.
- 22:46Speaker 4: Right, Like, basically you're getting the equivalent of the sixth
- 22:48Speaker 4: round pick back for what you use to draft him.
- 22:51Speaker 4: And now you know Paul's point earlier, like they probably
- 22:53Speaker 4: are going to have to invest in another late round
- 22:55Speaker 4: quarterback because they need another quarterback. Unless you know they're
- 22:59Speaker 4: just going to roll with two, They're gonna need another quarterback.
- 23:02Speaker 4: So you're you're basically going to be trading you know,
- 23:04Speaker 4: Joe Milton for like you know, Curtis Rourke or something
- 23:07Speaker 4: like that, you know, late on day three now, so
- 23:10Speaker 4: I just I would have waited. But it's the only explanation,
- 23:14Speaker 4: is right, there was more going.
- 23:15Speaker 2: On wan in Monterey, Mexico. He wanted to start by
- 23:18Speaker 2: saying May was always clear number one for me. I
- 23:22Speaker 2: hate this trade mainly because I don't like Dobbs as
- 23:24Speaker 2: a backup, and we already have seen May not finish games.
- 23:28Speaker 2: If the reason is because Milton was a distraction, I
- 23:30Speaker 2: get it. But Milton is a higher has a higher
- 23:33Speaker 2: upside than backup as backup than Dobbs.
- 23:37Speaker 8: You might, but Milton's also an older guy. He's not
- 23:40Speaker 8: a raw clump of clay that you needed to work
- 23:43Speaker 8: with to get like. He's kind of what he is
- 23:45Speaker 8: at this point. He needs to learn how to prog
- 23:48Speaker 8: you know, process and get the ball out. Those are
- 23:50Speaker 8: the biggest issues to me when we watched him in camp.
- 23:52Speaker 8: But I just I kind of think he's pretty close
- 23:55Speaker 8: to his ceiling as he is, especially physically, you know, And.
- 23:59Speaker 10: People are acting like we saw him play Buffalo starters
- 24:01Speaker 10: last season.
- 24:02Speaker 2: You know, we didn't throw the ball.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Like if you watched him at all in college, you
- 24:11Speaker 3: know how good his armies, his skills are off the charts.
- 24:14Speaker 3: But as a quarterback, I'm not sure that that matches.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Jacob in Rochester. Can we talk about how they pretty
- 24:19Speaker 2: much gave Joe Milton away? The terms of the trade
- 24:22Speaker 2: seemed ridiculous and not worth it, especially if he played
- 24:26Speaker 2: well in the preseason could have increased his trade value
- 24:28Speaker 2: for the off season for next offseason.
- 24:31Speaker 8: Maybe, I mean, but I get it.
- 24:32Speaker 2: We don't know the extenuating circumstance, right.
- 24:35Speaker 8: And I think I respect that point of view that
- 24:37Speaker 8: maybe you could have gotten more if you had held
- 24:39Speaker 8: on to him, and why they were I respect it.
- 24:41Speaker 8: What I just don't understand is this feeling of outrage
- 24:44Speaker 8: and this is ridiculous, And it just goes back to
- 24:47Speaker 8: what Paul said that you were expecting that this guy
- 24:49Speaker 8: was going to come back this spring and summer and
- 24:52Speaker 8: maybe be pushing Drake may because if he was going
- 24:55Speaker 8: to get a high compensation, that's what would have to happen,
- 24:58Speaker 8: which may be great for the pay if they got
- 25:00Speaker 8: a day you know, first day two pick, but at
- 25:03Speaker 8: the same time you're gonna be dealing with the drama
- 25:05Speaker 8: of Wow, Joe Milton's playing great right now and it's
- 25:08Speaker 8: it's becoming a controversy.
- 25:09Speaker 3: I would have held onto him for the reasons that
- 25:10Speaker 3: Evan said. But yeah, I totally recognized that he could
- 25:15Speaker 3: have played this preseason and did what he did last
- 25:17Speaker 3: preseason and you're getting a pick swap in the seventh round,
- 25:21Speaker 3: sixth round, whatever, or he could have played like he
- 25:24Speaker 3: did in the Buffalo game and maybe you get something
- 25:27Speaker 3: significantly more than that that that I could totally hear
- 25:30Speaker 3: that I would have done that, because to me, this
- 25:32Speaker 3: is about as little as you're going to get for
- 25:33Speaker 3: a guy. So I don't think he can really hurt.
- 25:36Speaker 3: It's not like if he played poorly in the preseason,
- 25:38Speaker 3: you were going to get less than that, so I
- 25:40Speaker 3: would have held onto him. But I understand what they
- 25:42Speaker 3: were doing and it doesn't sort of outrage me. To
- 25:44Speaker 3: use Mike's points.
- 25:45Speaker 8: Just doesn't dampen my excitement at all.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Well nothing, but in fairness, nothing is ever damped in
- 25:50Speaker 3: excitement for anything played to talk to Josh McDaniels, you
- 25:54Speaker 3: and I.
- 25:55Speaker 8: I know that with Josh McDaniels for I want more.
- 25:57Speaker 2: I need more of that.
- 26:00Speaker 3: I can't wait too today.
- 26:02Speaker 8: I was also going to push back on Paul being
- 26:04Speaker 8: the most negative person because I.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Don't maybe I'm totally wrong negative but not negative.
- 26:10Speaker 8: I think Paul just has this thing where he always
- 26:12Speaker 8: is able to see the other side and has a
- 26:14Speaker 8: desire to argue it, and it's not necessarily he's always
- 26:17Speaker 8: arguing the wrong side, Like if I were to take
- 26:18Speaker 8: a negative take, I could see policy in the positive
- 26:21Speaker 8: side of him pushing back with the positive side as well, like,
- 26:23Speaker 8: I just don't see you constantly taking a dump on
- 26:26Speaker 8: every single take.
- 26:27Speaker 10: You probably would have made a great attorney.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Right, Dan Michigan. If you discussed the possibility that Milton
- 26:35Speaker 2: was possibly moved to avoid a locker room problem due
- 26:37Speaker 2: to the potential for a perception of a quarterback competition
- 26:40Speaker 2: that seems odd to me giving the evaluations of May's
- 26:43Speaker 2: ability in comparison to Milton's and the reports of May's competitiveness.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Am I overrating May, underrating Milton, or underestimating the potential
- 26:52Speaker 2: for a QB controversies and the influence of fan and
- 26:55Speaker 2: radio murmuring on the locker room. Yeah, it's not, I'd say,
- 26:58Speaker 2: eternally it's the problem. It's all the external noise.
- 27:02Speaker 5: You know.
- 27:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's the last one. You just we
- 27:05Speaker 4: heard it even last year at times, you know, with
- 27:08Speaker 4: you know, the last game especially, but just in general,
- 27:11Speaker 4: they're you know, just a Joe Milton mania, if you will.
- 27:15Speaker 4: And I think that's to me, that's why the trade
- 27:18Speaker 4: was made, was because they were worried that that type
- 27:21Speaker 4: of thing was going to go down and it's just
- 27:23Speaker 4: better to clear the decks. I don't think they felt
- 27:25Speaker 4: like they had, you know, this diamond in the rough
- 27:27Speaker 4: and Joe Milton that was going to go on to
- 27:29Speaker 4: be you know, the next Tom Brady or Kurt Warner.
- 27:32Speaker 4: You know that they found on late on day three,
- 27:34Speaker 4: So they just decided that it was not worth it.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Jacket and Arbus is something that at first I was
- 27:39Speaker 2: like now, but then I was thinking, maybe he says,
- 27:43Speaker 2: instead of the Patriots accepting short value to trade Joe
- 27:45Speaker 2: Milton as a favor to Milton, who apparently wanted to
- 27:48Speaker 2: go to Dallas, what if the trade was made as
- 27:51Speaker 2: a favor to Jerry Jones. Do the Patriots, oh, Jerry
- 27:54Speaker 2: Jones a favor or do the Patriots expect a favor
- 27:56Speaker 2: from Jones in the future. The reason why I was like,
- 28:00Speaker 2: it made me think is what if Terry Jones wants
- 28:04Speaker 2: to create a quarterback controversy.
- 28:06Speaker 3: So I do think that there. I mean, I don't
- 28:09Speaker 3: know if that's creating a quarterback controversy, but it it
- 28:13Speaker 3: it does. It is on my mind that there's a
- 28:16Speaker 3: possibility that they're having second thoughts about Dak. There was
- 28:19Speaker 3: a report about maybe three weeks ago. Looks like it
- 28:23Speaker 3: was never anything to it, but you never know. Sometimes
- 28:25Speaker 3: when this smoke with these kinds of things, some guy,
- 28:27Speaker 3: some like obscure radio out in Cleveland was suggesting that
- 28:34Speaker 3: there was a trade in the works for the Dak
- 28:36Speaker 3: Prescott to Cleveland for the number two overall pick Now,
- 28:38Speaker 3: that wasn't the entirety of the deal, but that was
- 28:40Speaker 3: the crux of it, and you had to take to
- 28:42Speaker 3: Sewan Wott and it never really I didn't hear any
- 28:45Speaker 3: of that, but I never it never like got sort
- 28:49Speaker 3: of legitimized by anybody reputable. Right, it actually opposite, right,
- 28:53Speaker 3: but when But I've also seen that before too, like
- 28:56Speaker 3: all that that there's nothing to that, and all of
- 28:58Speaker 3: a sudden behind the scenes. We've seen that here right right,
- 29:02Speaker 3: we've seen that here with stuff that we've known has happened,
- 29:05Speaker 3: and then the media discoveries they no, no, that never happened. Well,
- 29:08Speaker 3: we know what did? I just wonder if Dallas maybe
- 29:11Speaker 3: is having second thoughts about long term Dak Prescott. Well again,
- 29:17Speaker 3: and that's what you know, Evan, You made that comment
- 29:19Speaker 3: like why on earth would Milton want to go there?
- 29:21Speaker 3: Might have an opportunity to play because Dak misses games.
- 29:24Speaker 3: That's a much better player obviously.
- 29:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I just don't. Maybe Milton looks at it like
- 29:29Speaker 4: he has an opportunity to truly be the backup quarterback there,
- 29:32Speaker 4: whereas here he's competing with Josh Dobbs.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Maybe it was the Josh Dobbs thing that that caused
- 29:36Speaker 3: me want to.
- 29:37Speaker 4: Go there's there's a zero point zero percent chance that
- 29:40Speaker 4: Joe Milton's starting in Dallas for the future.
- 29:43Speaker 3: You mean like long term ever? Yeah, I mean other
- 29:47Speaker 3: than like a spot start here.
- 29:48Speaker 4: Yeah, he's going to be the starter.
- 29:51Speaker 3: No, I agree, they're not going to supplant Dak Prescott.
- 29:53Speaker 3: But like to Alex's point, if he gets like hurd
- 29:56Speaker 3: again and all of a sudden he cooper rushes it
- 29:59Speaker 3: and goes in for like a games and wins six
- 30:01Speaker 3: of them, Yeah, Like I just wonder if he looks
- 30:04Speaker 3: at it, is that kind of an opportunity.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Yeah, Tony writes in if Milton were in this year's draft,
- 30:08Speaker 2: what round would he have gone? Where would he rank
- 30:10Speaker 2: among quarterbacks in this year's draft?
- 30:13Speaker 8: Just a little higher? I mean higher, But I don't
- 30:15Speaker 8: know he can He's a flyer.
- 30:17Speaker 4: I don't think you can look at it though, Like
- 30:20Speaker 4: you don't know what you know about his rookie season
- 30:22Speaker 4: with the Patriots, right, Like you have to look at
- 30:24Speaker 4: it and what he was coming out of Tennessee. You
- 30:26Speaker 4: can't factor in the Buffalo game and like say that
- 30:29Speaker 4: that changes your approach. So I still think he's a
- 30:33Speaker 4: Day three pick, even if he came out this year
- 30:36Speaker 4: where there's not as many quarterbacks like, I don't think
- 30:38Speaker 4: that he's all of a sudden going in the second round,
- 30:41Speaker 4: you know. So I think it might have been around better,
- 30:44Speaker 4: maybe just because it's not as deep of a quarterback
- 30:47Speaker 4: class or as good as a quarterback class, But I
- 30:49Speaker 4: don't think it would have been much different.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Gerald and Grimsby. My opinion of the trade is whatever.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Let's face it, no one was training for Joe Milton
- 30:56Speaker 2: as a starter. He was traded to Dallas where he
- 30:58Speaker 2: is now the backup for a bet a quarterback than may.
- 31:02Speaker 8: I love it, whatever, whatever, all right.
- 31:07Speaker 3: But it is interesting. Though it's an interesting trade.
- 31:11Speaker 10: No one should be more upset than our social team.
- 31:14Speaker 10: He was really good for Montent backslips, good engagement, He
- 31:18Speaker 10: was a good guy on the TikTok.
- 31:19Speaker 4: He was nice.
- 31:19Speaker 8: He was really nice, a nice kid, really good guy.
- 31:23Speaker 8: I always talked to.
- 31:24Speaker 3: Him a lot, but when I did, you seem very nice.
- 31:26Speaker 8: I think maybe the last week of the season was
- 31:27Speaker 8: when we got him. He came into the scrum in
- 31:30Speaker 8: the Revs locker room and just yeah, great guy, you know,
- 31:33Speaker 8: impressive guy. You understand why so many teams are intrigued
- 31:35Speaker 8: by him. He's got every single intangible and tangible. It's
- 31:39Speaker 8: just he has to put it all.
- 31:41Speaker 3: I had a chance to speak to him at one
- 31:42Speaker 3: of the television production meetings. Oh yeah, and that's why
- 31:48Speaker 3: I was sort of taking like this. This guy seems
- 31:51Speaker 3: like he's got a lot going on. You know, he's
- 31:52Speaker 3: really family oriented. Talked a lot about his brother Yeah,
- 31:56Speaker 3: I think he has several brothers and says, I think
- 31:58Speaker 3: he has like seven seven. I think he has a
- 32:01Speaker 3: lot of brothers and sisters if I remember correctly. That's
- 32:03Speaker 3: why he wears the number seven. I think he was
- 32:05Speaker 3: number seven.
- 32:06Speaker 10: I think you're right.
- 32:07Speaker 3: Yeah, he was an impressive guy.
- 32:09Speaker 10: Wish him the best.
- 32:11Speaker 4: I remember when they drafted him. I kind of asked
- 32:14Speaker 4: around about the the dynamic. You know, obviously they drafted
- 32:17Speaker 4: quarterback three overall, and you know we had those discussions
- 32:20Speaker 4: and uh he had down at the Senior Bowl. They
- 32:23Speaker 4: just gushed about the character of Joe Milton and yeah,
- 32:28Speaker 4: they have like kind of like a good Guy award
- 32:30Speaker 4: that they give out. This is the guy that was
- 32:31Speaker 4: kind of the best like locker room guy of the week,
- 32:34Speaker 4: and he actually won it, uh two years ago at
- 32:37Speaker 4: the Senior Bowl, and that that was the type of
- 32:39Speaker 4: guy that everybody thought he was in his So that's
- 32:43Speaker 4: why all this stuff that's been coming out about you know,
- 32:46Speaker 4: he wanted to he had higher aspirations and kind of
- 32:49Speaker 4: force his way out and all that. It just it
- 32:51Speaker 4: kind of surprised me a little bit.
- 32:53Speaker 10: Well to Freend's point, like it's maybe not only him,
- 32:55Speaker 10: but like his agent too, you know, like maybe he's
- 32:57Speaker 10: not the one speaking up and cause it like causing
- 33:00Speaker 10: directly the drama, but the agent has a job to
- 33:03Speaker 10: do to behind the scenes.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:04Speaker 8: I don't hold it against him at all. I mean,
- 33:06Speaker 8: there's a way to do it. Everyone's aware of what
- 33:09Speaker 8: his situation is behind Drake May and in the perfect
- 33:11Speaker 8: world for the Patriots, Drake May is there starting quarterbacks for.
- 33:14Speaker 10: The next time plus realistic way to look at it.
- 33:16Speaker 8: You know, it's it's not it's just business. He wants
- 33:18Speaker 8: an opportunity.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Yeah, and if it's if he in fact did do
- 33:21Speaker 3: it like he requested it and you said, there's a
- 33:23Speaker 3: way to do it. We didn't hear anything really about it.
- 33:25Speaker 10: It's not like he's tweeting like you know, tet me
- 33:28Speaker 10: out of here.
- 33:31Speaker 3: He's not removing all.
- 33:36Speaker 4: Changing his pro follow Yeah he's cryptic.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Yeah, Carl, I know he did that.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Like, no, I would never know. No, he's more mature
- 33:45Speaker 2: than Let's get to the hotline. Eight five five pats
- 33:48Speaker 2: five hundred. That's the hot line. The hot lines looking
- 33:53Speaker 2: for a sponsor there right, I guess good opportunities.
- 33:56Speaker 8: Available Jersey NFL Partnership.
- 34:00Speaker 4: Let's go Here we Go, the world's original podcast sponsored
- 34:04Speaker 4: by Classic Number thirteen Last Way.
- 34:06Speaker 8: I got to be honest, so like if we were
- 34:08Speaker 8: to get sponsored by Jersey Mics, like we got to
- 34:10Speaker 8: work in actual sandwiches, Like I don't want to just
- 34:12Speaker 8: have to do a ready well no, I mean like
- 34:15Speaker 8: all tangible sandwiches are like okay, guys, great they're a sponsor.
- 34:18Speaker 8: Just do a read every week and you're never getting
- 34:21Speaker 8: we lunch in the middle of thing. It's got to
- 34:23Speaker 8: be and lunch, of course provided by Jersey Mikes.
- 34:25Speaker 7: Today.
- 34:25Speaker 8: What are we all having?
- 34:26Speaker 12: You know?
- 34:26Speaker 2: I mean it's like thirteen.
- 34:30Speaker 13: There you go exactly, guy, get in my belly.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Everybody loves Ted's in San Diego. What's up Ted?
- 34:43Speaker 7: Good morning, a good afternoon. Just a few observations. I
- 34:47Speaker 7: was a season ticket holder for the Patriots back in
- 34:49Speaker 7: the early seventies when they opened up that done to
- 34:52Speaker 7: the stadium. The one quick observation from my time before
- 34:58Speaker 7: I moved to San Diego was I think that Chuck
- 35:01Speaker 7: Fairbanks should have been elected to the Hall of Fame
- 35:04Speaker 7: before ourselves. I know Paul has alluded over the at
- 35:09Speaker 7: least the last year or two about Fairbanks and the
- 35:11Speaker 7: great job we did drafting people, but that team was
- 35:15Speaker 7: probably the best team in the NFL back in the
- 35:17Speaker 7: seventy seven, seventy eight, seventy nine era. Screw it out
- 35:21Speaker 7: of the playoff game against the Raiders, which of course
- 35:24Speaker 7: was legendary. But I just feel like if it wasn't
- 35:28Speaker 7: for that owner, that team could have been great for
- 35:33Speaker 7: maybe half a dozen years because they had drafted so
- 35:35Speaker 7: well and they had such elite level players back at
- 35:38Speaker 7: that point. Even though the quarterback was skatey at times,
- 35:43Speaker 7: they still had a team on both offense and defense
- 35:46Speaker 7: that was just outstanding.
- 35:49Speaker 3: I would agree with you, Ted, And just to let
- 35:50Speaker 3: you know this, will you know, make you feel a
- 35:52Speaker 3: little bit better anyway, you know, Chuck Fairbanks was talked
- 35:56Speaker 3: about at our meeting that Fred and I just came
- 35:58Speaker 3: from for the Hall of Fame nomination meeting extensively, and
- 36:02Speaker 3: a lot of the stuff that you said was brought
- 36:04Speaker 3: up in I think that it's not a stretch to
- 36:07Speaker 3: say if Robert Kraft had, you know, had owned the
- 36:10Speaker 3: team back then, that they would have won super Bowls
- 36:12Speaker 3: in the seventies, because I do think their failures would
- 36:17Speaker 3: directly tied back to Billy Sullivan. And this is not
- 36:19Speaker 3: any disrespect to Billy Sullivan. I just think he just
- 36:22Speaker 3: flat out did not have the finances to be operating
- 36:25Speaker 3: at an NFL level, and I think he tried, but
- 36:29Speaker 3: I just don't think he had enough. And Fairbanks absolutely
- 36:33Speaker 3: is Parcels. I think there's so many parallels between the two.
- 36:36Speaker 3: And I got a lot of people when I wrote
- 36:39Speaker 3: the Bill Parcells story earlier this week, I got a
- 36:43Speaker 3: lot of interaction from fans saying, if Parcels is in,
- 36:47Speaker 3: it's time to get Fairbanks into because they're very similar.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Can a lot of some people, well, he walked away
- 36:52Speaker 2: from the team, one of the people shared the story,
- 36:55Speaker 2: and you know it's if you were back then, you
- 36:58Speaker 2: know it. He walked away from the team because he
- 37:00Speaker 2: had a handshake deal with John Hannah that the owner
- 37:02Speaker 2: made him back out.
- 37:03Speaker 3: He was basically the coach in GM. He was in
- 37:06Speaker 3: charge of all personnel, the players, negotiakstead with Chuck Fairbanks,
- 37:11Speaker 3: and he had an agreement in place with John Hannah
- 37:14Speaker 3: and Leon Gray handshake, this is done, all done, And
- 37:17Speaker 3: the owner said no, Well now I've lost my credibility
- 37:21Speaker 3: with my players, like you can't say no, and that's
- 37:24Speaker 3: what ultimately led him to leave.
- 37:27Speaker 8: Yeah, I went I went back on. When I wrote
- 37:29Speaker 8: for my Pats propaganda blog, I wrote an article about
- 37:31Speaker 8: Chuck Fairbanks nine years ago April eighth, twenty sixteen. But
- 37:35Speaker 8: just some interesting SATs I compiled were six Fairbanks drafted
- 37:38Speaker 8: six Patriots Hall of Famers, Parcels at that point it
- 37:41Speaker 8: drafted five. It might be a little more now because
- 37:43Speaker 8: I'm sure just in nine years a couple of those
- 37:45Speaker 8: guys went in. But Fairbanks was six seasons forty six
- 37:47Speaker 8: and forty, Parcels was four, thirty two and thirty two.
- 37:50Speaker 8: Fairbanks was zero two in the playoffs. I know that
- 37:52Speaker 8: there's some story behind that as well, and Parcels was
- 37:55Speaker 8: two and two. But the other part of Fairbanks for
- 37:57Speaker 8: me is that he part of the Fairbanks bull of
- 37:59Speaker 8: three fourty defense, which was Bill Belichick's basis for the
- 38:02Speaker 8: defense that existed here.
- 38:03Speaker 3: Forevers brought that from Oklahoma.
- 38:05Speaker 8: You know, you talk about we get so consumed with
- 38:07Speaker 8: Kyle Shanahan and the wide zone scheme and the schemes,
- 38:10Speaker 8: and you know, here's a guy that not only coached here,
- 38:12Speaker 8: but his scheme went on to be a huge part
- 38:14Speaker 8: of when the Patriots were really successful.
- 38:16Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 38:16Speaker 3: And the last thing I would say is there was
- 38:19Speaker 3: you know what Ted finished there about how good those
- 38:21Speaker 3: teams were in the seventies. Is Raymond Berry used to
- 38:26Speaker 3: tell anybody who listened that the heart of the team
- 38:28Speaker 3: that went to the Super Bowl in eighty five was
- 38:30Speaker 3: all Fairbanks guys. You know the hand is you know
- 38:34Speaker 3: all that Crewrogan, you know Grogan, Hannah Claybourne was still there,
- 38:39Speaker 3: Stanley Morgan was still there. I mean Hall of Famer
- 38:41Speaker 3: after Hall of famer.
- 38:42Speaker 8: Yeah, was that all like the seventy sixth draft or
- 38:45Speaker 8: seventy five.
- 38:46Speaker 3: Creating that they had three first round picks because Chuck
- 38:50Speaker 3: Fairbanks traded Jim Plunkett to San Francisco for two first
- 38:53Speaker 3: round picks two second round picks. I think it was
- 38:55Speaker 3: a crazy trade they ended up with. I forget the specifics,
- 39:01Speaker 3: but I think they got Mike Haynes, Pete Brock and
- 39:05Speaker 3: Tim Fox in the first round one year. So all
- 39:09Speaker 3: all guys that we're talking about, all guys that are
- 39:11Speaker 3: just you know, nothing in the eyes of young.
- 39:16Speaker 2: The Steelers were too good, right, London's and great Barrington's.
- 39:20Speaker 2: What's up London?
- 39:22Speaker 7: It was going on?
- 39:23Speaker 9: Guys?
- 39:23Speaker 13: Wait, wait, hold on, So like I think that the
- 39:26Speaker 13: conversation around is Milton trade.
- 39:28Speaker 11: You guys.
- 39:28Speaker 13: I understand you guys work at the organization, but I
- 39:30Speaker 13: think you're being way too tame about this. Like, let
- 39:34Speaker 13: me bring you guys back to reality. You basically traded
- 39:38Speaker 13: a potential start.
- 39:39Speaker 7: No, a starter.
- 39:40Speaker 13: He is a starter. The fact that Evan I got
- 39:42Speaker 13: beef with you right now.
- 39:42Speaker 8: Because that's where you lost London.
- 39:45Speaker 3: I'm getting out of control.
- 39:47Speaker 8: No, no, bro, you just said that Joe Milton is
- 39:49Speaker 8: a starter down my back.
- 39:50Speaker 13: Pap before jumped onw my back pape. You traded a
- 39:53Speaker 13: starter a starter, right, he is an absolute starter? Because
- 39:56Speaker 13: why the guy I was he absolutely trying to bring
- 40:01Speaker 13: up a controversy like they didn't want to pay back.
- 40:03Speaker 13: They didn't want to pay back right in the first place,
- 40:05Speaker 13: and that got injured. When he came back from injury,
- 40:07Speaker 13: he wasn't the same player. So they're absolutely trying to
- 40:09Speaker 13: get rid of him. They're trying to get rid of
- 40:10Speaker 13: that contract.
- 40:11Speaker 3: So you traded a starter, right, he didn't come back
- 40:13Speaker 3: financial potential franchise quarterback for a special teams player at okay,
- 40:18Speaker 3: maybe are.
- 40:19Speaker 2: You mixing him up with Aaron Rodgers?
- 40:20Speaker 13: Vondular But like, like I just want to bring you
- 40:24Speaker 13: back to reality.
- 40:24Speaker 8: But what why do you think he is a starter?
- 40:26Speaker 3: What have you seen? It makes you think he's a
- 40:28Speaker 3: starter and you think that that's reality.
- 40:30Speaker 4: But what you came You.
- 40:32Speaker 8: Saw one game and he's a starter in the NFL.
- 40:34Speaker 13: Trade His trades are amazing.
- 40:37Speaker 8: Like the traits, right, we all agree is traits are amazing,
- 40:40Speaker 8: but he's not a starter.
- 40:41Speaker 13: To start this guy over Drake, Why.
- 40:43Speaker 8: Was he drafted in the sixth round? He had the
- 40:45Speaker 8: same traits last year?
- 40:46Speaker 2: Yeah, like thirty two teams had a chance to draft
- 40:49Speaker 2: him and no one did, right.
- 40:50Speaker 13: And when did they do that before Tom Brady?
- 40:52Speaker 2: Right?
- 40:52Speaker 8: So he's Tom Brady.
- 40:53Speaker 13: I'm saying the NFL teams evaluations can be off, so
- 40:56Speaker 13: like that's true.
- 40:57Speaker 3: Okay, son, can you give me a favor and give
- 41:00Speaker 3: another one over the span of the last thirty years,
- 41:02Speaker 3: because that's one Oh, rady A. You're right, Brady was
- 41:04Speaker 3: the sixth round pick. Can you give me another six
- 41:06Speaker 3: round pick?
- 41:06Speaker 13: I just have a question before you guys hang up
- 41:08Speaker 13: on me real quick. I have a question about the
- 41:10Speaker 13: voluntary workout, Like when is Rabel gonna do?
- 41:13Speaker 14: Uh?
- 41:13Speaker 13: When is that voluntary work because obviously it's not voluntary
- 41:16Speaker 13: next week voluntary? Is that this month or next month?
- 41:20Speaker 8: Next week?
- 41:21Speaker 4: Monday?
- 41:21Speaker 5: Monday Day?
- 41:22Speaker 9: Okay?
- 41:22Speaker 13: And the one last thing, one last thing. I just
- 41:24Speaker 13: feel like Elliott Wolf, everything that he's done feels so
- 41:27Speaker 13: beta to me, Like I'm so done with this guy.
- 41:29Speaker 13: He's He's a bane of the Patriots nation existence Like
- 41:34Speaker 13: variable is a guy, you know what I'm saying. Like
- 41:38Speaker 13: the energy that Verbel brings and his guys that he
- 41:40Speaker 13: brought in, they've shown me real football moves, like aggressiveness.
- 41:44Speaker 13: Everything that Elliott has done, I'm sorry, just feel so
- 41:47Speaker 13: beta and it's like, from a position of weakness, I need.
- 41:49Speaker 7: This guy out of here.
- 41:50Speaker 5: Man.
- 41:51Speaker 2: Okay, thanks, But what I said about.
- 41:53Speaker 13: Joe when he turned into a franchise quarterback. I'm telling you, man,
- 41:56Speaker 13: remember this call, all right.
- 41:58Speaker 3: I absolutely London calling, and I'm not killing your take.
- 42:03Speaker 3: I just don't like the characterization like that's your opinion.
- 42:06Speaker 3: He's absolutely a starting quarterback, is your take. That's not
- 42:09Speaker 3: a fact. That's not a fact. He started one game
- 42:13Speaker 3: the last game of the year and didn't even start it,
- 42:15Speaker 3: but played in one game the last game of the
- 42:17Speaker 3: year against an entirety of backup practice squatters. That does
- 42:22Speaker 3: not make you a starter in this league. Dallas did
- 42:25Speaker 3: not make that trade because they think they traded for
- 42:28Speaker 3: a starter. They traded for a young quarterback who they
- 42:30Speaker 3: think might be worth developing, and he might develop into
- 42:33Speaker 3: a starter and London won't be right. But he's not
- 42:35Speaker 3: that now.
- 42:36Speaker 2: But I like the energy London.
- 42:38Speaker 8: He embodied what you said that that's where all the
- 42:41Speaker 8: angst comes from when people are very very upset about
- 42:44Speaker 8: this trade is that's the point of view. So it's
- 42:46Speaker 8: a good call.
- 42:46Speaker 4: I would also just go back to college with him
- 42:49Speaker 4: a little bit. And I've said it multiple times. Michigan
- 42:52Speaker 4: and Tennessee both thought like London about Joe Milton. They
- 42:56Speaker 4: both thought that Joe Milton, you know, he was a
- 42:59Speaker 4: highly recruited player out of high school, went to Michigan. Uh,
- 43:03Speaker 4: you know they that's obviously a blue blood, like a
- 43:05Speaker 4: big football program, flamed out in Michigan. Then Tennessee, you know,
- 43:09Speaker 4: bought in another SEC powerhouse in Tennessee. They bought into
- 43:13Speaker 4: Joe Milton. He has a lot of trades. He has
- 43:16Speaker 4: really high upside in a lot of trades. He has
- 43:18Speaker 4: never put it all together consistently and is never the
- 43:21Speaker 4: whole ball of clay has never been shaped consistently in
- 43:24Speaker 4: any capacity to the point where he spent like five
- 43:27Speaker 4: or six years in college football, you know, just bouncing
- 43:29Speaker 4: around trying to win starting jobs and stuff like that. So, uh,
- 43:34Speaker 4: he's got a lot of talent. And I think that
- 43:36Speaker 4: people see that and they just like London, they get
- 43:39Speaker 4: attached to the talent. But the other thing really quickly
- 43:42Speaker 4: with with Elliott Wolf. This trade does not scream Elliot
- 43:45Speaker 4: Wolf to.
- 43:45Speaker 2: Me at all.
- 43:46Speaker 3: Right, you know, there's a developing.
- 43:49Speaker 8: So Elliott Wolf, who's we don't like Elliott Wolf.
- 43:53Speaker 4: We do like And I'm not saying that because you
- 43:58Speaker 4: can like it or dislike it whatever you want to feel,
- 44:00Speaker 4: but you know, Elliot Wolfe's father, Ron wolf was a
- 44:02Speaker 4: big believer in drafting quarterbacks even if you had a quarterback,
- 44:06Speaker 4: and they held on to all of their quarterbacks for
- 44:08Speaker 4: as long as they possibly could. Like, moving on from
- 44:11Speaker 4: a quarterback one year into his rookie contract is not
- 44:14Speaker 4: the pack away like, That's not what his father did.
- 44:17Speaker 4: That's not like what his upbringing is in. I I
- 44:20Speaker 4: don't think that that was a move motivated by Elliot
- 44:23Speaker 4: wolf just my take.
- 44:24Speaker 3: Matt Mark Brunel.
- 44:27Speaker 4: Yeah, n.
- 44:31Speaker 3: He held on to and got something and all.
- 44:33Speaker 2: Being Patriots at the let's go to Eldred, North Carolina.
- 44:38Speaker 2: What's up Eldred? Hey, y'all doing all right?
- 44:46Speaker 14: I agree? I agree? I'm sorry, cool Evan, You're wrong,
- 44:53Speaker 14: Kenneth Kennethy. He did win win the Liberty Bowl?
- 44:57Speaker 2: The Liberty Bowl?
- 44:59Speaker 4: Did he bring? Did he win the Dates Mayo Ball too?
- 45:02Speaker 14: Did Drake go? Did Drake go?
- 45:04Speaker 4: Drake? Drake was in the Orange Bowl? I believe one
- 45:07Speaker 4: of his years or one of those big but.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Did it win?
- 45:10Speaker 14: Okay, forget all day, forget all day, but I.
- 45:14Speaker 9: Got I got Elga.
- 45:15Speaker 3: Can I just judge your real quick because if this
- 45:19Speaker 3: is your opinion, I want to just want to get
- 45:21Speaker 3: it straight. Do you think that they should have Milton
- 45:23Speaker 3: be the quarterback right now and not May?
- 45:26Speaker 5: No?
- 45:26Speaker 8: Well, then why bring up what May did in college
- 45:28Speaker 8: as opposed to what Milton did?
- 45:30Speaker 14: Big av been shooting down what he did in Tennessee.
- 45:33Speaker 3: Well, he was not a He really wasn't a great
- 45:36Speaker 3: starter at Michigan or Tennessee.
- 45:37Speaker 4: Correct.
- 45:38Speaker 3: No one suggested he didn't win any games and routinely
- 45:42Speaker 3: got it beat out.
- 45:43Speaker 14: By check the year of his college record, putting in
- 45:47Speaker 14: what you got and he's won more?
- 45:49Speaker 3: Which year, like I said before.
- 45:52Speaker 14: Buy your boy, he got Draft twenty? I think two interceptions.
- 45:57Speaker 3: So again you're comparing college stats. If you think Milton
- 46:00Speaker 3: is better than May, then stand by it. If I mean,
- 46:03Speaker 3: if he had a better year than May and you
- 46:05Speaker 3: think Milton should be the quarterback, say that, but you
- 46:08Speaker 3: think May should be the quarterback. So I don't really
- 46:10Speaker 3: know what we're arguing. Not that I have to defend
- 46:12Speaker 3: Evans a good job on his own.
- 46:14Speaker 14: But Corter to Baldon or Baldi and what'd you call him.
- 46:21Speaker 3: A while back?
- 46:22Speaker 14: Yeah, Balding, he's a better quarterback to the one they
- 46:25Speaker 14: got now. And if I was New England. I actd
- 46:28Speaker 14: dreaming about it, but a pilas for a third but
- 46:32Speaker 14: Milton wanted to go to the Cowboys. And I think
- 46:35Speaker 14: I understand it too, because I got a bunch of
- 46:36Speaker 14: cowboy fans in my family. They can't stand dak Well.
- 46:41Speaker 2: I know that. That's why I was a little bit
- 46:45Speaker 2: raising my eyebrow that to Jerry Jones thing. But Elder,
- 46:47Speaker 2: if what thanks for the call. If what you're saying
- 46:49Speaker 2: is that they could have got a third and they
- 46:51Speaker 2: ended up getting a compensatory fifth form, then somebody should
- 46:56Speaker 2: get fired. I doubt that that was what was on
- 46:58Speaker 2: the table, a third round pick.
- 47:00Speaker 4: I mean, we're just now we're just rewriting Joe Milton's
- 47:02Speaker 4: college career by the way too, like we're just we're
- 47:04Speaker 4: completely changing what happened in college, you know. And he
- 47:08Speaker 4: basically got told to leave Michigan because they gave the
- 47:11Speaker 4: starting job to somebody else, and he went to Tennessee
- 47:13Speaker 4: Hennon Hooker beat him out. At Tennessee, Hennon Hooker was
- 47:16Speaker 4: actually going to keep playing. Then he got hurt, and
- 47:18Speaker 4: that was the only reason why Joe Milton even got
- 47:20Speaker 4: to play in the first place. At Tennessee, and then
- 47:23Speaker 4: you know, he had a decent year. Eldred's right about.
- 47:26Speaker 2: Lessons this happen. Like be a Joe Milton fan, that's fine,
- 47:31Speaker 2: you know, like he could Joe Milton with you know,
- 47:33Speaker 2: proper coaching and structure and all that. Maybe all those
- 47:36Speaker 2: that ball of clay does get formed into a good quarterback.
- 47:39Speaker 2: I hope it does for his sake. But right now
- 47:42Speaker 2: in this point in.
- 47:43Speaker 3: Time, like he lost the Orange Bowl seven.
- 47:48Speaker 2: You know, I don't know how.
- 47:51Speaker 8: You could be that up the year.
- 47:52Speaker 4: That's fine, It's funny because I wouldn't have made the trade.
- 47:56Speaker 4: And I said that, like I said, I wouldn't have
- 47:58Speaker 4: made the trade. I just the overrating of Joe Milton
- 48:01Speaker 4: is where I think we are getting a little bit
- 48:03Speaker 4: worked up, because it's like you're you're just rewriting history
- 48:06Speaker 4: now that he's you know, going to be a franchise quarterback,
- 48:08Speaker 4: or that he's you know, you're predicting the you're predicting
- 48:11Speaker 4: the definitive.
- 48:12Speaker 3: He's they traded the starter for you know, a pick
- 48:15Speaker 3: swap and from the seventh to the fifth. That's like,
- 48:17Speaker 3: I just don't know that we can say that he's a.
- 48:19Speaker 2: Starter Phil's and Coventry.
- 48:21Speaker 9: Hey Phil, Hey, how you guys are doing good? Uh,
- 48:27Speaker 9: you're going about it the wrong way, and I'm surprised
- 48:29Speaker 9: Bart hasn't figured this out yet. The definitive answer to
- 48:34Speaker 9: this big mystery is and I don't mean to spend gossips,
- 48:39Speaker 9: but I think somebody might have wanted his number rhymes
- 48:47Speaker 9: with death, the number ten. Probably wanted the jersey numbers.
- 48:54Speaker 9: So they had to get him.
- 48:55Speaker 8: Going, oh, okay, okay, don't want to give it.
- 48:57Speaker 9: And the other thing is, Evan, have you started he's
- 49:00Speaker 9: growing the film on kickers.
- 49:01Speaker 4: Yet on Kickers? Yeah, I know you love the better
- 49:06Speaker 4: call sauls. That's my take on the kickers.
- 49:08Speaker 2: All right, thanks.
- 49:10Speaker 3: So the answer is, yes.
- 49:12Speaker 8: That's a good kick. Kick.
- 49:16Speaker 4: I usually leave the kickers to Barth. For some reason,
- 49:19Speaker 4: he's decided that that's a niche that he wants to
- 49:22Speaker 4: be a part of. So like at the very end,
- 49:24Speaker 4: at like one fifty eight, I'll give him, like, all right,
- 49:26Speaker 4: here's your two minutes on the kickers. Go for it.
- 49:29Speaker 4: I don't start a soccer or something. No, he did not,
- 49:33Speaker 4: He just I think he just needed some niches, you know,
- 49:38Speaker 4: and the little should.
- 49:40Speaker 8: We walk over the things. Probably okay, yeah, I keep sorry.
- 49:46Speaker 2: All right, you guys, time for a break. These guys
- 49:48Speaker 2: are gonna go up and uh check out the offensive coaches. Uh,
- 49:54Speaker 2: we'll back, we'll come back. When Josh McDaniels goes live
- 49:58Speaker 2: at around one o'clock, well we're gonna go to that
- 50:00Speaker 2: as well.
- 50:00Speaker 3: But oh, good, good, good good.
- 50:02Speaker 2: Yeah. So whether you're in you guys, later, we'll take
- 50:04Speaker 2: a break and we'll be right back.

- 51:12Speaker 18: How do you feel about how the team has been
- 51:14Speaker 18: spending its money and how much of his reaction to
- 51:17Speaker 18: maybe not spending it last year in infreugency.
- 51:21Speaker 19: Well, we're just to correct something. There's never been a
- 51:28Speaker 19: case in thirty one years where people have come to
- 51:34Speaker 19: us to spend and we've said no, never one time.
- 51:39Speaker 19: So we've always been willing to spend. When we do it,
- 51:45Speaker 19: we want people to feel that they've done their homework
- 51:48Speaker 19: and feel confident.
- 51:49Speaker 5: That we're doing it and improving.
- 51:52Speaker 19: I mean a lot most people would say, given coaches experience,
- 51:57Speaker 19: that what we've done on defense and his knowledge of
- 52:02Speaker 19: that area and the personnel, that we've improved greatly.
- 52:09Speaker 5: And you know, I think that's so.
- 52:12Speaker 19: I I know, I don't know, uh, but I'm excited.
- 52:18Speaker 19: And we've always had a strong defense, and I think
- 52:24Speaker 19: any of us that are fans of the team know
- 52:27Speaker 19: we want to try to strengthen the offense a little
- 52:31Speaker 19: you know, on the line and in the receiver area, maybe.
- 52:39Speaker 5: A speed running back.
- 52:41Speaker 19: But I I'm talking as a fan, uh, But I
- 52:45Speaker 19: have confidence.
- 52:46Speaker 5: That this group.
- 52:48Speaker 19: Is all on the same page and the most important
- 52:51Speaker 19: thing is everyone who's putting team first. And that in
- 52:56Speaker 19: in this business, you can't have little groupings who have
- 53:01Speaker 19: their own ideas. Everyone and the fact that it's starting
- 53:06Speaker 19: fresh and everyone expresses how they feel it, it's been
- 53:11Speaker 19: very exciting for me.
- 53:13Speaker 2: What would make what would make the season of success?
- 53:16Speaker 3: What would make the season of success for you?
- 53:18Speaker 5: For me, yeah, to make the playoffs.
- 53:22Speaker 10: Robert, what was your reaction to the team's lomarks and
- 53:25Speaker 10: the NFLPA report card and sort.
- 53:27Speaker 19: Of well, you know, it was eye opener for me
- 53:36Speaker 19: and and then I I put it in context that
- 53:42Speaker 19: you know, in thirty one years, going through these last
- 53:46Speaker 19: two years and the way things were and the culture
- 53:52Speaker 19: was there. I it really opened my eyes in a way,
- 53:57Speaker 19: cause we we think we're bo and we have things, but.
- 54:05Speaker 5: It just was not a good environment.
- 54:08Speaker 19: And I and we wanna do everything we can to
- 54:14Speaker 19: make this.
- 54:16Speaker 5: The feeling is is one of the best places you
- 54:19Speaker 5: can go. And I think we had that.
- 54:22Speaker 19: For quite a while in terms of winning and people
- 54:26Speaker 19: wanted to come here, and then the last couple of
- 54:29Speaker 19: years changed it. And now it's management and ownership's job
- 54:34Speaker 19: to do everything they can to create the culture that
- 54:38Speaker 19: this is a place that people wanna come to. And
- 54:42Speaker 19: I really believe it. It it's happening. And now we
- 54:47Speaker 19: gotta produce on the field and want people have go
- 54:53Speaker 19: wanna come to be in this environment, and we're trying
- 54:56Speaker 19: to do the different things we can to make that happen.
- 55:02Speaker 20: Four in June, some NFL owners like Ralph Wilson Dan
- 55:06Speaker 20: Ruby's step aside first took a step back around the
- 55:09Speaker 20: similar age. Are there have there been any discussions any
- 55:12Speaker 20: succession planes things like that?
- 55:15Speaker 5: Are you telling me? Uh? Well?
- 55:18Speaker 19: First of all, I think I'm thirty five and you
- 55:22Speaker 19: all will laugh when I say it, but I really,
- 55:26Speaker 19: uh y. You know, in life, look, I was a
- 55:30Speaker 19: little kid sitting I was on those benches dreaming about
- 55:34Speaker 19: owning this team and bringing a winning culture here. I said,
- 55:39Speaker 19: after my family, this team and this foundation to combat
- 55:45Speaker 19: hate and anti Semitism, those are my passions, you know.
- 55:52Speaker 19: I As far as succession, succession is there, I have
- 56:00Speaker 19: uh my eldest son John and has been part of
- 56:05Speaker 19: every key decision I've made for the last thirty odd
- 56:09Speaker 19: years and is a full partner in everything. He stays
- 56:16Speaker 19: out of uh the limelight.
- 56:20Speaker 5: Uh.
- 56:20Speaker 19: But we we have a plan that is in place
- 56:25Speaker 19: for all of our businesses. And I don't know, were
- 56:30Speaker 19: you suggesting something that you know that's a bias Sometimes
- 56:35Speaker 19: with age you have experience.
- 56:36Speaker 5: But let's see what happens this year.
- 56:39Speaker 19: Let's see let's see what happens over the next two
- 56:42Speaker 19: to three years, Robert.
- 56:43Speaker 21: But before you go, last year, you had the Tom
- 56:46Speaker 21: Brady Hall of Fame thing that was a big deal.
- 56:50Speaker 21: We had a meeting coming up. We had a narrow
- 56:53Speaker 21: down an amazing list of candidates for a Patriots Hall
- 56:56Speaker 21: of Fame.
- 56:57Speaker 1: Uh.
- 56:57Speaker 21: Any advice you might give uh with Minitarry Edelman, Mankin's
- 57:03Speaker 21: others that get in challenging.
- 57:07Speaker 19: Well, you're I don't know s. People probably get mad
- 57:11Speaker 19: at me for what I'm about to do. But UH,
- 57:15Speaker 19: I know Thursday we have a uh a meeting of
- 57:20Speaker 19: our Patriots Hall of Fame group. And I decided the
- 57:26Speaker 19: end of last week UH to make a call to
- 57:30Speaker 19: sorry camp A da good things happen in the bushes.
- 57:39Speaker 19: I called Bill Parcell's who, and uh I asked him
- 57:44Speaker 19: if he would uh be kind enough to accept going
- 57:49Speaker 19: into our Patriot Hall of Fame. He had been a
- 57:52Speaker 19: finalist for five years, and going back to your question,
- 57:56Speaker 19: while both of us are alive in our late thirties,
- 58:03Speaker 19: you know, I thought it would be great, given me
- 58:05Speaker 19: what he's done for the team, if he would accept
- 58:09Speaker 19: entry as a contributor into the Patriots Hall of Fame.
- 58:13Speaker 19: And he accepted.
- 58:15Speaker 5: Uh.
- 58:15Speaker 19: I actually wanted to meet with him in person, but
- 58:20Speaker 19: he was on his way to Saratoga, where he goes.
- 58:23Speaker 19: Uh so he's sort of uh So, I'm excited. Uh
- 58:28Speaker 19: We'll have him at our Patriots Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.
- 58:36Speaker 19: And I'm sorry if I messed up the Thursday meeting
- 58:40Speaker 19: of the people.
- 58:42Speaker 5: Can I squeeze one off on Newswise? Uh idy?
- 58:46Speaker 22: Updates on the Evert Stadium and where.
- 58:49Speaker 3: The big stand and how it's coming.
- 58:52Speaker 19: Well, you know, I go back. I think back to
- 58:57Speaker 19: when I bought the Patriots. I had gone out to
- 59:02Speaker 19: Saint Louis and met with James Orthwine and knew we
- 59:06Speaker 19: had a stadium that was inadequate, and.
- 59:11Speaker 5: I called the then governor and.
- 59:13Speaker 19: Said, I'm going to keep the team from moving to
- 59:16Speaker 19: Saint Louis, but I need your commitment that you're going
- 59:19Speaker 19: to help me get a stadium in downtown Boston. And
- 59:23Speaker 19: he said, I'm there, You're in. And of course we
- 59:28Speaker 19: all know what happened, and the political environment here is
- 59:34Speaker 19: a little different. So we built the only stadium in
- 59:37Speaker 19: America that's one hundred percent private and we're willing.
- 59:45Speaker 5: To do that for soccer. O.
- 59:50Speaker 11: Good God to see every buddy, a lot of familiar faces,
- 59:58Speaker 11: your Sa.
- 1:00:00Speaker 21: Las Vegas, come here, back here where your thoughts just
- 1:00:04Speaker 21: be in that hell are world?
- 1:00:06Speaker 18: Yeah, Uh, super excited to be, you know, working in
- 1:00:10Speaker 18: football again. You know, the the process of getting acclimated
- 1:00:16Speaker 18: with Mike and the staff.
- 1:00:19Speaker 11: Is obviously an exciting one for me.
- 1:00:23Speaker 18: Working with a bunch of guys that you know, you're
- 1:00:25Speaker 18: getting familiar with them and learning things about them and
- 1:00:28Speaker 18: our team and our players that we haven't had an
- 1:00:30Speaker 18: opportunity to work with yet. But just the this is
- 1:00:35Speaker 18: why we do what we do, uh in coaching, uh,
- 1:00:38Speaker 18: to you know, form these kind of relationships and hopefully,
- 1:00:41Speaker 18: you know, build to something that we're all proud of.
- 1:00:43Speaker 11: Uh.
- 1:00:44Speaker 18: Once the season starts, So, Uh, I couldn't be more
- 1:00:46Speaker 18: excited to be here and be back with this organization
- 1:00:49Speaker 18: and working for Mike, and uh excited for Monday.
- 1:00:53Speaker 13: Lash relatives to.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: Your expectations before we had a chance to meet 'em
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: at that time of where has great been been?
- 1:01:00Speaker 5: Relatives? What can expect him?
- 1:01:01Speaker 18: Yeah, I haven't had a chance to really do football
- 1:01:04Speaker 18: with him yet, Tom, but you know that'll that'll come.
- 1:01:07Speaker 11: We'll have plenty of time here coming up next week.
- 1:01:08Speaker 18: But I'm I'm smitten by the young man in terms
- 1:01:13Speaker 18: of just his personality. You know, We've had an opportunity
- 1:01:16Speaker 18: to spend some time that has nothing to do with
- 1:01:19Speaker 18: football with one another, which I think, you know, has
- 1:01:22Speaker 18: been great, very beneficial and productive to just to get
- 1:01:25Speaker 18: to know him, who he is, what he's all about,
- 1:01:28Speaker 18: what he cares about, Uh, where he's.
- 1:01:30Speaker 11: Coming from, his family?
- 1:01:32Speaker 18: Uh and Michael, you know, wedding plans, you know all
- 1:01:35Speaker 18: that stuff. We've we've kind of had an opportunity to
- 1:01:37Speaker 18: talk about those kind of things. So you know, I
- 1:01:41Speaker 18: think next week and beyond will be super fun for
- 1:01:44Speaker 18: me to really get to know him from a football
- 1:01:46Speaker 18: perspective and start teaching our terminology and language and seeing
- 1:01:52Speaker 18: how he learns best and how he acclimates. But I
- 1:01:56Speaker 18: couldn't be more excited about the young man that that
- 1:01:59Speaker 18: that we have.
- 1:02:00Speaker 11: I'm usually very early in the process, but what's your
- 1:02:02Speaker 11: overall feelings of confidence?
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: Speaking of the safety offensive.
- 1:02:07Speaker 18: I always start each year with a fresh perspective, you know.
- 1:02:11Speaker 18: I wasn't here last year, and I know every every
- 1:02:15Speaker 18: player on our team is going to get a fresh start,
- 1:02:18Speaker 18: you know, and we're going to give everybody our best.
- 1:02:21Speaker 18: And our job is to take the guys that we
- 1:02:23Speaker 18: have on our offense and make them better. And I
- 1:02:26Speaker 18: think that's a huge part of an assistant coach's job,
- 1:02:30Speaker 18: is to develop the players that you have. I know
- 1:02:32Speaker 18: our staff is excited to start doing that next week,
- 1:02:36Speaker 18: and we'll get to know them more as we go.
- 1:02:38Speaker 18: But I'm confident in the guys we have working right
- 1:02:42Speaker 18: now offensively on our staff that are that are preparing
- 1:02:46Speaker 18: to teach these guys the things we want to do.
- 1:02:49Speaker 18: And then it's a process. You know, we'll get to
- 1:02:51Speaker 18: know them more as we go, but excited. I've met
- 1:02:53Speaker 18: most of them and looking forward to meeting the rest
- 1:02:56Speaker 18: of them.
- 1:02:56Speaker 19: Will be tweaking or advancing offense.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: In order to suit even like the quarterback you have
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: and in the personality town.
- 1:03:06Speaker 18: Yeah, definitely, that's the short answer. Yeah, I think the
- 1:03:14Speaker 18: this is a is always a very popular question. We
- 1:03:19Speaker 18: have a language, and every offensive system, defensive system has
- 1:03:25Speaker 18: a language. So you have to have a just you
- 1:03:27Speaker 18: have to decide the way you want to speak in
- 1:03:28Speaker 18: terms of calling things and naming things and whether you
- 1:03:33Speaker 18: use numbers, protections, or.
- 1:03:34Speaker 11: You use words or however you do what you do.
- 1:03:38Speaker 18: So our language has been refined a little bit between
- 1:03:43Speaker 18: last year with the time that I had and then
- 1:03:46Speaker 18: dish spring with the coaches. I think that's really getting streamlined.
- 1:03:50Speaker 18: It's been great to have their perspective on it. Just
- 1:03:53Speaker 18: you know, being in the same type of language for
- 1:03:58Speaker 18: my entire career has been good and probably in some
- 1:04:02Speaker 18: ways it's been, you know, a little different than most coaches,
- 1:04:06Speaker 18: and so these guys have done a tremendous job of
- 1:04:09Speaker 18: helping us streamline it. So what's most important is that
- 1:04:12Speaker 18: the players can digest whatever it is we want to do.
- 1:04:15Speaker 18: But there's the language and then there's the strategy part.
- 1:04:18Speaker 18: And the language is how you talk. The strategy is
- 1:04:21Speaker 18: all based about your players and what do we have,
- 1:04:24Speaker 18: what are our strengths, How do we maximize the personnel
- 1:04:28Speaker 18: that's on our team and on our offense. And that
- 1:04:32Speaker 18: part is going to be different like it is every year,
- 1:04:35Speaker 18: you know, whether you you know seven was different than twelve,
- 1:04:40Speaker 18: Twelve was different than seventeen. Everything was different than twenty twenty.
- 1:04:45Speaker 18: You know, twenty twenty one is going to be different
- 1:04:47Speaker 18: than this year. So the strategy and what we end
- 1:04:50Speaker 18: up doing eventually will be all about what's best for
- 1:04:53Speaker 18: our players and how can we maximize the guys here.
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: How different is the language and everything for drape don't compared.
- 1:04:59Speaker 11: To what you had last year, It'll be it'll be different.
- 1:05:04Speaker 18: I think that sometimes can get overblown because you know,
- 1:05:08Speaker 18: you one word is apple, and other words tomato, and
- 1:05:12Speaker 18: one system it means one thing, and another system it
- 1:05:15Speaker 18: means something else. And the guys, just like men in black,
- 1:05:19Speaker 18: you take the thing and just wipe the you know, wipe.
- 1:05:21Speaker 11: The memory clean from you know, some of the things.
- 1:05:24Speaker 18: But it's a lot of it is what you called
- 1:05:27Speaker 18: this now we call this and it takes them a
- 1:05:29Speaker 18: little bit of time to to acclimate to that. Our
- 1:05:32Speaker 18: staff we've done the same thing and we've honestly, we've
- 1:05:34Speaker 18: changed some things, and I'm in the process of doing
- 1:05:37Speaker 18: the same thing too. So what we used to call
- 1:05:40Speaker 18: something now we call something else because we've agreed that
- 1:05:42Speaker 18: it's the best thing to do for the team.
- 1:05:45Speaker 11: So we're all going to be in that same boat.
- 1:05:48Speaker 18: Sure, we'll come up with a friendly find system when
- 1:05:50Speaker 18: we use terms that don't mean anything to us now
- 1:05:53Speaker 18: that used to. But no, I don't expect there to
- 1:05:56Speaker 18: be you know, there'll be a period of adjustment, but
- 1:05:58Speaker 18: I don't think that'll that be a big deal.
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: Can you go deeper into what you're going through? What
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: you just mentioned different?
- 1:06:04Speaker 18: Yeah, I mean we you know, we we've had a
- 1:06:07Speaker 18: way to talk for a number of years, and and
- 1:06:11Speaker 18: so when you have a great group of guys, I
- 1:06:15Speaker 18: can't say enough about the offensive staff.
- 1:06:17Speaker 11: And and so when.
- 1:06:18Speaker 18: We come together, we've talked about every aspect of our offense.
- 1:06:21Speaker 18: And so you look at it and you say, okay, okay,
- 1:06:26Speaker 18: does that make sense now?
- 1:06:28Speaker 11: It might have made sense ten years ago, five years ago.
- 1:06:32Speaker 18: How can we streamline it a little bit to make
- 1:06:34Speaker 18: it make perfect sense and make it even better?
- 1:06:37Speaker 11: And even though we were doing.
- 1:06:39Speaker 18: That year to year, I think It's always great to
- 1:06:42Speaker 18: have guys that have a different perspective because they're the
- 1:06:46Speaker 18: ones that are going to teach it when they go
- 1:06:47Speaker 18: into the individual position room. So it's important for them
- 1:06:50Speaker 18: to feel confident in, you know, the way they know it.
- 1:06:54Speaker 18: You know, it doesn't matter how I know it if
- 1:06:56Speaker 18: they're in a different room. So we've really done a
- 1:06:59Speaker 18: good job of of coming together. They've been given me
- 1:07:02Speaker 18: great input. We've taken a lot of their ideas and
- 1:07:05Speaker 18: thoughts and try to make it one and whatever. Whenever
- 1:07:09Speaker 18: the ball gets placed down on the field, it's going
- 1:07:11Speaker 18: to be our offense and it's our terminology and we'll
- 1:07:14Speaker 18: we'll all know it by then, but there's gonna be
- 1:07:18Speaker 18: a little bit of an adjustment period for everybody.
- 1:07:21Speaker 20: If you had away from football, how did you reflect
- 1:07:24Speaker 20: on who you are as a coach and how do
- 1:07:26Speaker 20: you expect to evolve next now that you're back at
- 1:07:28Speaker 20: the league.
- 1:07:29Speaker 18: Yeah, I think this was, you know, something you don't
- 1:07:32Speaker 18: ever think about doing, but I would say it was.
- 1:07:34Speaker 18: You know, It's just it's a blessing to have the
- 1:07:37Speaker 18: time to go back and look at, you know, what
- 1:07:40Speaker 18: you've been through in terms of the changes and different
- 1:07:45Speaker 18: highs lows. You know, you look back at the past
- 1:07:48Speaker 18: in terms of what we've done schematically and what the
- 1:07:52Speaker 18: league is doing now strategically. You know, I had a
- 1:07:56Speaker 18: really good opportunity last year to watch football without a
- 1:08:02Speaker 18: lot of deadlines, you know, which was a new interesting
- 1:08:06Speaker 18: opportunity for me, and just see different things that were
- 1:08:10Speaker 18: coming up throughout the course of the league. You know,
- 1:08:12Speaker 18: there's younger quarterbacks that are that are playing a little
- 1:08:16Speaker 18: earlier than maybe they were ten, twelve, fifteen years ago.
- 1:08:19Speaker 18: There's different things that people are using and doing schematically
- 1:08:24Speaker 18: that are having a lot of success. There's some trends
- 1:08:27Speaker 18: like there always are that are kind of i'd say,
- 1:08:31Speaker 18: in vogue now. Whether they stay in vogue for long,
- 1:08:34Speaker 18: I don't know. But it was just a really healthy
- 1:08:37Speaker 18: opportunity for me to go back and look at what
- 1:08:39Speaker 18: I've done, what I've been a part of, and then
- 1:08:41Speaker 18: what else is going on in the league right now
- 1:08:44Speaker 18: that I need to get better at that I need
- 1:08:47Speaker 18: to start thinking about incorporating. And then this obviously this
- 1:08:51Speaker 18: opportunity with you know, Thomas and Todd and Ashton and
- 1:08:56Speaker 18: Doug and Hass and Koog's and the guys we have here.
- 1:09:00Speaker 18: I mean, it's been tremendous for me to have this
- 1:09:02Speaker 18: opportunity to to really pick their brains and see what
- 1:09:05Speaker 18: they know and and gleam as much information from them
- 1:09:09Speaker 18: as I possibly can. And there was you know, I
- 1:09:12Speaker 18: got an opportunity to go to a few different places
- 1:09:15Speaker 18: last year.
- 1:09:17Speaker 11: I won't say where those were.
- 1:09:18Speaker 18: But but but you know, there was some there was
- 1:09:21Speaker 18: some great coaches that were very welcoming college pro I
- 1:09:27Speaker 18: had an opportunity to see for the very first time
- 1:09:29Speaker 18: in my life. You know, somebody else run a meeting,
- 1:09:32Speaker 18: somebody else run a practice, somebody else coach a quarterback.
- 1:09:36Speaker 18: And those were invaluable opportunities for me. And I know
- 1:09:40Speaker 18: I'm a different I'll be a different person in terms
- 1:09:43Speaker 18: of going forward because of the experiences that I've had
- 1:09:45Speaker 18: an opportunity to see.
- 1:09:47Speaker 22: Josh, when you when you when you were here before Johnny,
- 1:09:51Speaker 22: there were some players who couldn't get your system, who
- 1:09:53Speaker 22: really couldn't pick it up. So wondering as you evolved
- 1:09:57Speaker 22: as a coach, and you're talking here chefternoon, how much
- 1:10:01Speaker 22: of a coach, how much of growth does you have
- 1:10:03Speaker 22: to be able to now place all players in a
- 1:10:06Speaker 22: position to win and be successful.
- 1:10:08Speaker 18: Yeah, hopefully hopefully a good one. Again, I think it's
- 1:10:14Speaker 18: a it's a good process for our staff to be
- 1:10:16Speaker 18: going through.
- 1:10:19Speaker 11: I would argue we have a lot of guys that
- 1:10:21Speaker 11: did get it pretty well.
- 1:10:23Speaker 18: But but I understand the point in the question, and
- 1:10:25Speaker 18: that's always going to be the case. There might be
- 1:10:27Speaker 18: some guys that are you know, have a have a
- 1:10:31Speaker 18: little bit a harder time of getting something. And part
- 1:10:35Speaker 18: of our responsibility is to take, you know, those things
- 1:10:39Speaker 18: we're learning about the players and try to figure out, Okay,
- 1:10:42Speaker 18: if he can learn this, but not this, this and this,
- 1:10:45Speaker 18: then we've got to try to do more of that,
- 1:10:47Speaker 18: you know. So a big part of that is the
- 1:10:50Speaker 18: decision making process that we need to go through once
- 1:10:52Speaker 18: we start to get familiar with the players that we have.
- 1:10:57Speaker 12: We've heard Mike and Elliott talk about the coaches having
- 1:11:01Speaker 12: some collaborative voices and up kind of draft. Have you
- 1:11:04Speaker 12: been able to get your input on what kind of
- 1:11:06Speaker 12: players you'd like to see added in on the office
- 1:11:09Speaker 12: and we're able to do dive into free agency as well.
- 1:11:12Speaker 11: Yeah, they've been great.
- 1:11:14Speaker 18: I mean, I know all of us have have had
- 1:11:17Speaker 18: players we've evaluated, both in free agency, and in the draft,
- 1:11:21Speaker 18: and our job is to give them our honest opinion
- 1:11:24Speaker 18: and input on the evaluations that we see and then
- 1:11:29Speaker 18: they they have the hard job figuring out how to
- 1:11:32Speaker 18: get them on the team. So, yeah, it's been great.
- 1:11:35Speaker 18: We've had plenty of opportunity to look at players and
- 1:11:39Speaker 18: you know, and compare and contrast you know, across position groups,
- 1:11:43Speaker 18: what have you, and then you know, give them our
- 1:11:45Speaker 18: input and then you know, let them go to work.
- 1:11:48Speaker 17: That's what you're are on the wide receiver room and
- 1:11:51Speaker 17: just who you have not really currently and you step
- 1:11:56Speaker 17: on a big edition as well.
- 1:11:57Speaker 18: Yeah, excited about all those guys. Everybody's got a clean slate,
- 1:12:02Speaker 18: you know. And and to me, that's going to be
- 1:12:04Speaker 18: an important message that I know Coach is going to
- 1:12:07Speaker 18: give on Monday, and we're going to echo that. I've
- 1:12:11Speaker 18: always you know, it's best to really refrain from making
- 1:12:17Speaker 18: assessments on people until you really have them in your room,
- 1:12:19Speaker 18: until you get to know them, till you coach them,
- 1:12:21Speaker 18: until you put them on the field and you're running
- 1:12:24Speaker 18: drills and running things offensively, and then you have an
- 1:12:27Speaker 18: opportunity to correct things, see if they can fix it,
- 1:12:30Speaker 18: make the corrections and get better. And so we have
- 1:12:33Speaker 18: some young players that you know, certainly have a lot
- 1:12:36Speaker 18: of ability, and we have some guys that have some experience,
- 1:12:40Speaker 18: some of which I have a little experience with, you know,
- 1:12:43Speaker 18: KB and Mac and you know some of those guys.
- 1:12:46Speaker 18: And I'm starting to get to know some of these
- 1:12:48Speaker 18: other guys that are trickling in here now and super
- 1:12:51Speaker 18: excited to work with all of them.
- 1:12:52Speaker 5: I really am.
- 1:12:53Speaker 11: And Steph.
- 1:12:55Speaker 18: Steph is a unique individual, unique player, got a really
- 1:13:01Speaker 18: good skill set, been a very productive player for a
- 1:13:03Speaker 18: long time.
- 1:13:04Speaker 11: Excited about his addition.
- 1:13:06Speaker 18: My brother had an opportunity to coach him last year
- 1:13:08Speaker 18: in Houston, so I have a you know, a little
- 1:13:11Speaker 18: bit of insight into you know, what he's like day
- 1:13:14Speaker 18: to day, and I'm really excited about about having him here.
- 1:13:19Speaker 20: Last question, guys, last picture up signed three guys that
- 1:13:22Speaker 20: you're familiar with, Mac Collins, Blayne Apps. Can you sort
- 1:13:26Speaker 20: of give us a little bit of insight on those guys.
- 1:13:28Speaker 18: Yeah, you know, I was fortunate to be around all
- 1:13:33Speaker 18: three of them. Uh good football players, super uh, super individuals,
- 1:13:40Speaker 18: really high character, care a lot about the little things
- 1:13:44Speaker 18: and the details. They set a high bar for the
- 1:13:48Speaker 18: standard in their rooms, and you know, what they expect
- 1:13:51Speaker 18: from themselves, and I think that that then relates to
- 1:13:53Speaker 18: their teammates and uh, their respective sides of the ball.
- 1:13:58Speaker 18: And you know, I think all of them are about
- 1:14:00Speaker 18: the right stuff, and you know, they play hard, they
- 1:14:03Speaker 18: do they do the things that it requires to be good,
- 1:14:07Speaker 18: and I'm excited about having an opportunity to work with
- 1:14:09Speaker 18: them again.
- 1:14:10Speaker 11: Here yep, thank you.
- 1:14:17Speaker 6: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website. For deals,
- 1:14:22Speaker 6: buy a Toyota dot com.
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: All right back here in Patrin's Unfiltered. That was Josh McDaniels,
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: live at the podium. Good to hear from him. Anything
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: of note that you thought, uh, not a ton stood out?
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: I mean, I did you know, there was a lot
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: of questions as we kind of assumed about the offense
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: and the changes. You know, how much do you cater
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: to you know, New York personnel. And mean, I think
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: there's probably going to be some of that going on
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: and some terminology changes and whatnot. So I think there's
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: going to be a learning curve both for the players
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: learning his offense and for him sort of adapting his
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: new offense to them.
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: Yeah, so like he said, you know, there's a difference
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: between our language, which is what we call things that
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: everybody does, and then our strategy, which is how do
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: we use our players to their best of their ability.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: And I'm glad he said that because you know, there's
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: everyone's just assuming that this is the tom Brady offense
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: because that's what Josh McDaniels ran when he was here,
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: and I hope not because right now Drake may can't
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: do what tom Brady did and the way he did it.
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: You know, like there could be the structure, like certain
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: things vertical, using the slot receiver more and all that stuff,
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: but tom Brady, that was tom Brady's offense, you know
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: by the time he was done. So yeah, I mean,
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: I think Josh McDaniel said the same thing that any
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: good coordinator would say, is we evaluate who our players are,
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: what their strengths are, and then we tailor our offense
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: to those strengths.
- 1:15:51Speaker 10: I did like the line about Drake that he's smitten
- 1:15:53Speaker 10: with the young man.
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: I don't know why. I thought that was funny.
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: Yeah, he said, I miss I missed that one.
- 1:15:59Speaker 10: With the young man.
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: So old fashion from the fifties.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: Yeah, good, it gives me the vapors. Yes, because so
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: good stuff from good stuff from Josh McDaniel's there. Good
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: to hear from him. So people want to call in
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: or email about that. It's eight five five PATS five
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: hundred is the hotline podcast at patriots dot com. Is
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: the way to email us, and I will remind people
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: if you haven't already sign up for the newsletter. Go
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: to Patriots dot com slash pu newsletter and sign up
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: for that. Any teasers this week anything.
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: So I just you know, I did during the break,
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: I read the email for the first time, and I
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: got to tell you I'm gonna have a hard time
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: because I don't know if I have anything for you.
- 1:16:49Speaker 9: Really.
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: Yeah, well for the first question of the second.
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: Second question, okay, you know the guy fiery question, got it.
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: I don't know if I have one.
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: Hey thing long and hard. Okay, you guys know the morning.
- 1:17:00Speaker 5: I'll do that.
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: Yeah. Getting back to the emails, just a quick one
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: caught my eye. Dan in Virginia and Michigan know that
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: two emails in one show was frowned upon in this establishment.
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: But a little mentioned fun factoid about Chuck Fairbanks, who
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: absolutely should already be a member of the Patriots Hall
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: of Fame, and it's criminal that he isn't is that
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: he brought Ernie Adams into the Patriots in pro football.
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: Adams first talked about that today.
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: Yep.
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: Adam's first professional position was an offensive assistant in Fairbanks
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: Patriots staff. Dan also says something I was remiss in
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: not mentioning Tuesday, are you gonna mention Patriots dot COM's
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: nomination for a Webby for your coverage of the Tom
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: Brady's Hall of Fame induction ceremony and that we can
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: vote for you? Help us, help you? Thank you, Dan.
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: I did not mention that Tuesday. I should have.
- 1:17:49Speaker 11: So.
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: I don't know if people are familiar what the Webby
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: Awards are, but they're kind of like the awards for
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: the Internet for stuff that happens on the web. And
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: this year we put in the Tom Brady Hall of
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: Fame Induction show as one of the nominees in its category.
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: I don't know which category it is, but right now
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: I think we're in second or third place in voting.
- 1:18:11Speaker 4: Some heavy hitters against too.
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: We're up against like Wicked in NASA, So help us out. Yeah,
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: so like Space and like one of the most popular
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: movies last year. So it's gonna be tough. But if
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: you go to my X account, Fred Underscore Curse in
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: my timeline, there's a direct link to finding the place
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: the page to vote. Because it's kind of tough. There's
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: a million categories.
- 1:18:33Speaker 10: Did we have something on petris dot com for it too?
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: Maybe I think you might have. Yeah, But you can
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: go to my x account friend underscore cursion, follow me,
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: you and.
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: Your friends that are I'm trying to get to well
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: versed on the world wide Web.
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: I'm trying to get over the one hundred thousand hump?
- 1:18:50Speaker 3: How much are you sure about?
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: Ninety? Same?
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: I'm straight man. Yeah, see, we did that.
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: That's an old joke I've been using for many years
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: because we've been a ten thousand for like ten You.
- 1:19:01Speaker 8: Caught me that.
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: I think you used something like I just want to
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: get to one hundred thousand followers, yeah, And I was like,
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: how many do you have? And he goes eight. That's
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: something like that.
- 1:19:12Speaker 8: That ten thousand thresholds a hard one.
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: Well, that's the big one because once you get it's
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: just eleven k, you know, as opposed to eight thousand,
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: eight hundred and eleven you know.
- 1:19:22Speaker 10: I'm stuck in fourteen thousand purgatory if you guys want
- 1:19:25Speaker 10: to help me out.
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: But another proof that no one can take a joke.
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: I mean years ago, I did that on on my time, Like, Hey,
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: I'm trying to get over with a thousand and people,
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: you're only a ten thousand? What are you talking about?
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: That's like broke you moron boring people.
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm trying to get to forty okay, and it's
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: been a long I've been in the thirty thousands for
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: a long time.
- 1:19:48Speaker 8: No, that's that's good though.
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: Really you might say, well, Paul, have you tried actually
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: tweeting once in a while ago?
- 1:19:54Speaker 11: Yeah?
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: You just that might be a lot that might up
- 1:19:56Speaker 3: your your followers, But no, there are You know, I
- 1:19:59Speaker 3: think people can figure out, for obvious reasons why I'm
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: not necessarily a frequent tweeter.
- 1:20:06Speaker 4: We have to be careful, We have to.
- 1:20:07Speaker 10: Be careful with the plot on Twitter like you do
- 1:20:09Speaker 10: on the show.
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: Yeah, Travis and West Virginia, you've been ignoring my emails lately,
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: but here goes. Instead of ignoring my awesome emails, you
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: should ignore it. You know who's boring phone calls for
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: the betterment of the show. That could be anybody. I
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: don't know who he's talking about. Evan mentioned the smashing
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: of a computer in Office Space, but it was actually
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: a printer, which is fundamental to the plot of the movie.
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: Not sure how he got that wrong or how none
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: of you corrected him.
- 1:20:35Speaker 3: I'm not a big office space guy. I'm not gonna lie.
- 1:20:37Speaker 3: I know the movie, and I thought it was funny,
- 1:20:40Speaker 3: you know, but it didn't change my life like it
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: did in anybody that's say, twenty fifteen years younger than me. Yeah,
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: it seemed to like really impact your lives.
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:20:50Speaker 10: I've been getting a lot of inquiries Fred about people
- 1:20:53Speaker 10: asking me how they I can get you to read
- 1:20:56Speaker 10: their emails. Someone particularly asked what the best time to
- 1:21:00Speaker 10: email into the show is during the show to increase
- 1:21:03Speaker 10: the likely during the show.
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: Yeah, unless it's like, yeah, tremendous, it has to be
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: like a tremendous point that we hadn't thought of off
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: you know, like off show hours. Otherwise during the show.
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: And by the way, so a lot of people try
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: to put a headline in that will be make me
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: read it.
- 1:21:18Speaker 3: That's because it works for Felger all the time, right, don't.
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: It's not the headline. It's your first two lines, because
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: I get a preview in my email column. So it's
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: the first two lines that will more likely catch my
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: eye than your headline, because I know a lot of
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: you try to trick me with your headlines. So it's
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: gonna be pithy. If you have a really long email,
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: I'm not going to read it because I don't want
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: to bore people. It's going to be like a paragraph
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: of a concise, good idea or making fun of somebody.
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: I like that.
- 1:21:48Speaker 10: Here you go, just make fun of us.
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: Get it read.
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: Yeah, And we did the Webby Award, and I think
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: we all thought it was already there, and it is.
- 1:21:56Speaker 3: It's on patriots dot com. You can vote there, and
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: I think you have to do so by April seventeenth.
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: I think so that's the deadline. So it would be
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: cool if we want. But like I said, we're against
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: some heavy hitters there. Let's go back to the hotline
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: eight five five past five hundred, Brent's and reno, what's up?
- 1:22:13Speaker 5: Brent?
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: Brent, Brent is lost his game slots. Let's go to
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: Nelson in La Nelson, don't swear?
- 1:22:27Speaker 5: What's up?
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: Nelson, gone Nelson in LA. I think they got scared
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: away by that email about you know who, boring email
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: phone calls. They all think it's about them. Cam and
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: East Providence. What's up, Cam Cam?
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: You gotta know?
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: Are we having trouble with the phones?
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: Got to push away? Okay, got to push away from
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: the phone.
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: We'll try to reset that. We'll go back to emails.
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: Let's see. Tony says, how could no one asked Josh
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: McDaniels his thoughts on Joe Milton being dealt Do you
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: do you agree with that? And do you think that
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: was an important question?
- 1:23:11Speaker 3: I don't know. I'm not going to rate the importance,
- 1:23:13Speaker 3: but yes, that's a question that should have been asked.
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: It just happened, right, What did you learn?
- 1:23:19Speaker 10: I mean we only got three questions that asked the
- 1:23:21Speaker 10: same thing in different words about what did you learn?
- 1:23:24Speaker 5: Right?
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: And yeah, Joe, someone should ask.
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: Even if it's just a throwaway question, you got to
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: get it on record.
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: I would have gone to the side Josh.
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: Yeah, uh, Sam and Saint Catherine's not outraged like some
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: of the others at the trade returner value of Milton.
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: That just makes me question drafting him. In the first place.
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: That was kind of Paul's thing in terms of things ball,
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: no or spew. Drafting a quarterback every year is good business, unquote,
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: comes to comes in right behind, build through the trenches.
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: But was this good business or punting on a pick
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: for a year. It's only a nineteen pick difference from
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: where he was drafted to what we got for him.
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: Plus he had to we had to give up a
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: seventh in drafting him. Caused some noise for Drake along
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: with the first pick this year, although I don't fully
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: put that win on Joe Milton solely. How was this
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: good for business? What was the point?
- 1:24:15Speaker 8: Well?
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: I think good good email good points also adds to
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: the speculation that there had to be more than just
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: getting a low fifth round pick. There had to be
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: some pressure that, hey, where where do I stand? I
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: want to move on, I want a chance to play
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: in this league. You know, please get rid of me.
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: So I think that could have had something to do
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: with it. But you know, Joe, I mean, Paul, you
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: were on it when we first drafted. It's like, why
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: are we drafted this guy?
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: Well, it doesn't mean that I was right. That was
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: my feeling, was I just felt I do believe in
- 1:24:49Speaker 3: that sort of you know, I know it's a cliche
- 1:24:51Speaker 3: of drafting quarterbacks every year is good business. I don't
- 1:24:54Speaker 3: think drafting two is necessarily great business. I know Washington
- 1:24:59Speaker 3: did that years ago with RG three and Kirk Cousins,
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: and it worked because RG three was great. Then you
- 1:25:04Speaker 3: got hurt, your cousin's played, and he proved to be
- 1:25:07Speaker 3: certainly a worthy fill in, you know, worthy starter in
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: the league. Yeah, that worked out. I don't think that
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: that necessarily is something you have to do. I would
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: rather have taken a guy there that maybe could represent
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: another offensive lineman or something right now.
- 1:25:20Speaker 10: As depth, that example also kind of feels like the exception,
- 1:25:23Speaker 10: not that rule.
- 1:25:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know of a lot of teams that
- 1:25:26Speaker 3: make a habit of taking two quarterbacks in a year
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: when they need one. You know, it's one thing to
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: take a quarterback because you just thought, well, the value
- 1:25:33Speaker 3: was too high and he was available. What else were
- 1:25:36Speaker 3: we going to take. I like the idea of taking
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: quarterbacks and trying to develop them. I think this one
- 1:25:41Speaker 3: had something to do with it.
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: If you're going to take one to try to develop them,
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: you've got to keep them for more than one year.
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: So that's why there was something else going on here.
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's why I think you're right. I think
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: you're onto something for it.
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: Luke in Atlanta, can you please read the definition of
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: the endowment effect. The endowment effect is a cognitive bias
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: where people assign a higher value to items they own
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: compared to items they don't, leading to reluctance to trade
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: or sell them. Everyone freaking out about the Milton trade
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: is falling victim to this, and it happens all the time.
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: It's one of those all period, all the period. No,
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: you like that, you don't like that. Nobody in the
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: league cares about Joe fing Milton. There is a ninety
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: nine point nine nine nine percent chance that this trade
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: is utterly meaningless. It is the least important news of
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: this entire off season. Wow, a lot of caps there too.
- 1:26:31Speaker 10: People feel very strongly either way.
- 1:26:33Speaker 3: They have a lot of Milton takes, strong Milton takes.
- 1:26:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: Well, it's good for radio. I guess. Spiking Fresno says
- 1:26:41Speaker 2: I liked London's fire. That was an earlier caller.
- 1:26:44Speaker 3: I liked London's fire too. I just disagree with him all.
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: But his listening skills rivaled Mark in the Bays. If
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: we're loving players based solely upon their trades in our
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: wildest imaginations, we should be lamenting the loss of Nikhil
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: Harry size, Taekwon Thornton's speed, Chad Jackson, Jackson's catch radius,
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: Chris Singleton's strength, in Mac Jones's brain. I'm joking because
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: Milton isn't necessarily a bust. He might end up being
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: a competent backup journeyman somewhere, or maybe he'll be more
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: than he's shown. But some people are confusing entertaining traits
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: with overall ability. People used to lament how boring it
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: was to watch Tom Brady. I'll take that kind of
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: boring any day. Who said Brady was boring.
- 1:27:27Speaker 3: A lot of people just said he didn't have those
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: physical skills that wowed you. Oh right, it's quarterback. Well
- 1:27:33Speaker 3: that was early in his career. But people you know,
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: like you know Aaron Rodgers, just like you know the
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: way he throws the ball, and you know and Lamar
- 1:27:40Speaker 3: Jackson the way he runs around. Brady didn't do any
- 1:27:41Speaker 3: of those things, but he did him all better than
- 1:27:43Speaker 3: everybody else. You know. The whole idea of being a quarterback,
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: so I know what Spee's talking.
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: About Sean and Vancouver. To preface this email, I should
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: say that I am a Joe Milton fan. Five years
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: from now, i'll probably remember that Joe Milton was drafted
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: by the Patriots, much less likely if he somehow leads
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: the Cowboys to the Super Bowl, I'll consider this trade
- 1:28:03Speaker 2: to be a huge theft silver lining. Milton rather be
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: in Dallas because he is guessing that Drake may will
- 1:28:10Speaker 2: be the Patriots starting quarterback for the next ten years,
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: while he is more confident that he'll start for the
- 1:28:15Speaker 2: Cowboys in less than five.
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: Boy, Christian Campbell just hit another home run.
- 1:28:19Speaker 8: It looks good. Freddy kid looks good.
- 1:28:21Speaker 2: I like what I see from his agent.
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: I would be looking for a new job. I don't
- 1:28:25Speaker 3: believe he can't believe he signed that contract eight years,
- 1:28:28Speaker 3: sixty million. I think he's gonna be underpaid by bye.
- 1:28:31Speaker 2: Like June, Well, they'll be asking for a new one.
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: Good luck with that. You just signed an eight year contract.
- 1:28:37Speaker 2: Valerian writes in that Joe Milton trade is fine in
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: my mind if we're gonna rebuild this team into a
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: perennial contender. We're gonna need later round picks that work out.
- 1:28:45Speaker 2: We drafted him in the sixth round, turned him, turned
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: him and a seventh round pick into a fifth rounder.
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: The team gets another shot.
- 1:28:52Speaker 3: Moved up nineteen spots. I just want that stated.
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: The team gets another shot in this draft to look
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: for a player that could be more impactful in the
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: near future than Milton. Milton was always a great what if.
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: But if we have our quarterback of the future in
- 1:29:07Speaker 2: May and Josh Dobbs is a fine backup, pick up
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: another six round quarterback or an undrafted rookie and move on. Okay,
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: I think that's what they did.
- 1:29:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree. I would have taken a positional player
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: last year with that pick, because I think that would
- 1:29:20Speaker 3: have had a chance in the spot that they were
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: last year. The more chances that you had to add
- 1:29:25Speaker 3: players that could help, I would have taken.
- 1:29:28Speaker 2: Yep, let me see, I want to move on from
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: the Milton subject. I'm getting bored.
- 1:29:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, there is really not much else to
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: say about Milton. I think we all kind of are
- 1:29:41Speaker 3: a little bit surprised that they moved on so quickly,
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: unless they were going to get blown away in a
- 1:29:47Speaker 3: trade deal, trade package, and they didn't. But you know,
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: it's what it is. I think Fred's right. I think
- 1:29:53Speaker 3: there's probably as much to do with something away from
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: the field than we know.
- 1:29:57Speaker 2: Yep, let's see Will Campbell's stuff, Brandon. If Will Campbell
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: was well above the thirty three and threshold for tackle
- 1:30:08Speaker 2: arm length, where would he have ranked among last year's tackles.
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: And if we draft Campbell as a tackle, what's the
- 1:30:14Speaker 2: plan to make sure he's a better fit there versus
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: a guard? Do they just line them up against the
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: guy with the longest arms and say good luck? What
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: goes into evaluating him once they have the player?
- 1:30:25Speaker 3: I think they'll just evaluate the whole, the entirety of
- 1:30:29Speaker 3: the package and see if he you know, how he
- 1:30:31Speaker 3: handles pass rushers. I mean it's not necessarily long arms
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: pass rushers, right, you know, you know, does he does
- 1:30:38Speaker 3: he have the ability to keep guys wide?
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: And I mean as a tackle, there's some rookies that
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: they get on the team and you don't really see them,
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: and where when we get to see all the practices
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: go up against the first number ones once in a
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: while they put him in. I think if they were
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: to take Campbell. I think early on, once they get
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: into August, I mean into training camp, We're going to
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: see him going up against you know whoever you know,
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: Harvey Lang or whoever it.
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: Is Harvey Lang.
- 1:31:06Speaker 2: Who's the guy they've gotten free agency?
- 1:31:10Speaker 3: Harold Landry, Harold Landry.
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: Yeah, like.
- 1:31:14Speaker 3: Wow, I speak Fred, but sometimes.
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: You make it tough. Harold Landry. Who's Harvey Lang. There
- 1:31:25Speaker 2: wasn't Harvey Lang.
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: I have no idea.
- 1:31:27Speaker 4: It's like a character from the show.
- 1:31:31Speaker 5: That's good.
- 1:31:33Speaker 3: It's good.
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: Let's see. Oh I like this email, Matt writes in
- 1:31:38Speaker 2: Fred is right, he says, yes, he is one of
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: the few headlines I'll I'll read. After hearing Fred's proposed
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: new measurement system for O line arm length, I discovered
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: that this measurement already exists in the world of biomechanics
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: and advanced analytics. What Fred is describing, and I did
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: this on Tuesday. What Fred is describing is the anterior
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: forward plane reach. Basically, Campbell has such flexibility and mobility
- 1:32:03Speaker 2: as upper body that is more than makes up for
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: his static arm length. A YouTuber named pat Stats posted
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: an in depth look at Campbell from a biomechanic perspective
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: to talk about interior forward playing reach starts thirty eight
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: minutes into this video.
- 1:32:19Speaker 3: He concludes, can we watch the video? No, it's only
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: thirty eight minutes.
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: I know. He concludes that Campbell's AFPR is elite and
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: longer than other prospects and players with arms over thirty
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: four inches. Fred is such a next level thinker that
- 1:32:33Speaker 2: he was able to independently conjure up this important metric
- 1:32:36Speaker 2: that teams look at with proprietary analytics. I agree after
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: of stats video, I'm convinced Campbell should be the pick
- 1:32:44Speaker 2: at four. So I'm going to save that email.
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: So do you think they're going to pick Campbell at four.
- 1:32:50Speaker 2: If Hunter and Carter are gone? Yes, yes I will,
- 1:32:54Speaker 2: and I agree with him.
- 1:32:55Speaker 4: I think so too.
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: But I think they're telling too many people that they're
- 1:32:59Speaker 3: like Campbell.
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, that's that's the times.
- 1:33:03Speaker 3: I think that they're not going to take them.
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: That's sometimes a red flag.
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: I don't I mean, I don't have any like anything
- 1:33:11Speaker 3: concrete to base that on. I'm just I feel like
- 1:33:16Speaker 3: at the combine and then at the owners meetings last week,
- 1:33:20Speaker 3: it just seemed like, oh yeah, well, I don't see
- 1:33:22Speaker 3: any other way you can evaluate them, you know, he played,
- 1:33:25Speaker 3: I'm starting to think.
- 1:33:26Speaker 10: Are you jumping on train?
- 1:33:29Speaker 3: What's your change?
- 1:33:29Speaker 11: Running back?
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: Yeah, before we get into that room where these guys
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: have been and what they saw on herd, I just
- 1:33:36Speaker 2: want you guys to know that my idea for measuring
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: offensive line arm length is already part of advanced analytics,
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: and I thought of it on my own, so.
- 1:33:47Speaker 3: That it's not exactly the same as what you said,
- 1:33:49Speaker 3: but I'm going to give you credit anyway. He talked
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: about lean forward, leaning, flexibility and stuff. You're talking about
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: blocking guys with you, the heel of you, which makes
- 1:33:58Speaker 3: U how to do it, how to do it which
- 1:34:00Speaker 3: makes no sense.
- 1:34:01Speaker 4: Had a little arm land talk where we just were
- 1:34:03Speaker 4: as you can probably imagine.
- 1:34:04Speaker 2: Yeah, Douckie, Maroon, Jus and Evan are back and we
- 1:34:09Speaker 2: got to listen to Josh McDaniels. We didn't get to
- 1:34:11Speaker 2: talk to all the offensive coaches like you did. But
- 1:34:13Speaker 2: quick question on McDaniels, why did anyone ask about the
- 1:34:16Speaker 2: trade for Joe Milton.
- 1:34:18Speaker 8: Yeah, I surprised, I said before I thought that they
- 1:34:20Speaker 8: that they would.
- 1:34:21Speaker 11: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: That wasn't talked about among your friends afterwards. No, No,
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: I mean there's sixteen people from clintis there not one
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: person could ask about John Milton? Not that I care,
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: I really don't.
- 1:34:34Speaker 3: I do think it's a relevant question.
- 1:34:35Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 1:34:37Speaker 4: No, I think you know, this was our first time
- 1:34:39Speaker 4: talking to him since he's back, and I think there
- 1:34:42Speaker 4: was just bigger picture questions, one.
- 1:34:45Speaker 3: Less question related to what he's did last year in
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: his time on Sure.
- 1:34:49Speaker 4: But I think my point is is that there's more important,
- 1:34:52Speaker 4: bigger picture questions about Drake May and the offense and
- 1:34:55Speaker 4: the people that are actually going to be here, and
- 1:34:57Speaker 4: then talking about I.
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: Think the most important thing is I didn't know there
- 1:34:59Speaker 2: was so many nicknames among the coaches already.
- 1:35:01Speaker 8: Oh yeah, I had to look her because I met
- 1:35:04Speaker 8: these guys. Who are all these guys like I need
- 1:35:06Speaker 8: to like professor course on what they're.
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: Spanky and I was.
- 1:35:09Speaker 3: I was out after, but I was out after like
- 1:35:13Speaker 3: the fourth one, Spanky.
- 1:35:15Speaker 8: It's before your time, just joking comedy. He doesn't, it's
- 1:35:20Speaker 8: a show.
- 1:35:22Speaker 5: He wanted to be.
- 1:35:24Speaker 2: Let's get serious. What did you glean from leaving our show?
- 1:35:27Speaker 8: Oh? I just I mean you guys probably discussed Josh.
- 1:35:30Speaker 8: I would just say my one thought on Josh just
- 1:35:32Speaker 8: seems like chill Josh. I felt I just felt a relaxed,
- 1:35:35Speaker 8: more relaxed vibe about him. Maybe it's the year off,
- 1:35:38Speaker 8: maybe it's the off season, maybe the stress just haven't
- 1:35:40Speaker 8: said hasn't said it yet, But to me, he sounded
- 1:35:43Speaker 8: a little bit more relaxed, a little bit calmer, in
- 1:35:46Speaker 8: a good place right now.
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: He knows the answers to the test.
- 1:35:48Speaker 8: He does, he does.
- 1:35:49Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah. My favorite answer from him was about as
- 1:35:54Speaker 4: you could imagine the language versus the strategy, and that's
- 1:35:57Speaker 4: something that we've talked about. I feel like the show
- 1:36:00Speaker 4: a lot and they speak a different language, but you know,
- 1:36:03Speaker 4: the strategy is going to be adapted to the players,
- 1:36:05Speaker 4: is you know what he said? So I think anybody
- 1:36:07Speaker 4: that thinks that he's just going to put Drake May
- 1:36:10Speaker 4: right into the Tom Brady offense and expect him to
- 1:36:13Speaker 4: operate it like he's Tom Brady.
- 1:36:14Speaker 2: Well listening to the show, that's exactly what I said.
- 1:36:16Speaker 4: Yeah, you know they were going to have a little
- 1:36:18Speaker 4: bit of difference there. I talked a little bit to
- 1:36:20Speaker 4: Ashton Grant, the quarterbacks coach now be Drake May's coach,
- 1:36:24Speaker 4: and he said that they're going to keep the footwork
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: the same, which I was happy to hear about. But
- 1:36:29Speaker 4: there is going to be more on Drake's plate at
- 1:36:31Speaker 4: the line of scrimmage. You know, they are going to
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: put you know, he's going to have the keys to
- 1:36:35Speaker 4: the ferrari and it's going to be up to him
- 1:36:37Speaker 4: to drive the car. So it won't be the center,
- 1:36:40Speaker 4: you know, making the calls. It sounds like it's going
- 1:36:42Speaker 4: to be the quarterback.
- 1:36:43Speaker 2: And now that's back to that's Tom Brady.
- 1:36:46Speaker 4: Yep, there's gonna be quite a bit on his plate,
- 1:36:49Speaker 4: which some quarterbacks love, you know, the kind of the
- 1:36:52Speaker 4: chess match and all that kind of stuff. Now, I
- 1:36:55Speaker 4: don't think it's going to be two feet into the
- 1:36:58Speaker 4: deep end right away. I'm sure that they'll kind of
- 1:37:00Speaker 4: ease him into that. But he did mention they'll see
- 1:37:03Speaker 4: how it goes, you know, in the spring, in the summer.
- 1:37:05Speaker 4: If it's too much, then they'll they'll obviously pull back.
- 1:37:08Speaker 4: But it does sound like, you know, Josh McDaniel's really
- 1:37:11Speaker 4: close to the vest as you can imagine about the
- 1:37:13Speaker 4: actual scheme tweaks that they're going to make, But it
- 1:37:17Speaker 4: does sound like they're going to adapt some things.
- 1:37:19Speaker 2: Did you get to talk to Doug Marone?
- 1:37:21Speaker 8: That was the only guy I didn't get in it's
- 1:37:23Speaker 8: a little bit of a rapid fire, and no Evin
- 1:37:24Speaker 8: got into Yeah, why don't you give that?
- 1:37:26Speaker 4: That was my first stop. So he got right off
- 1:37:29Speaker 4: the bat, got asked about arm length and why thirty
- 1:37:32Speaker 4: two and five as and thirty three inches is such
- 1:37:34Speaker 4: a big difference, and he gave the boyer a played
- 1:37:37Speaker 4: answer that that Vrabel's given and even Elliott wolf is
- 1:37:40Speaker 4: given in the past, which it's all about how you
- 1:37:42Speaker 4: play right, if you play to the max of your length,
- 1:37:45Speaker 4: if you use what you have to the best of
- 1:37:48Speaker 4: your ability. Then he made a point to say that
- 1:37:51Speaker 4: he doesn't he doesn't really have a type at tackle.
- 1:37:54Speaker 4: You know, if it's a however you win, you in
- 1:37:56Speaker 4: whether you're a big guy, small guy, athletic guy, you know,
- 1:38:00Speaker 4: powerful guy, whatever. He said that he's played with all
- 1:38:04Speaker 4: different types of left tackles and all, you know, different
- 1:38:06Speaker 4: types of guys have been successful in different ways, So
- 1:38:10Speaker 4: he doesn't have an exact archetype of like, this is
- 1:38:14Speaker 4: the five things that I need my left tackle to
- 1:38:16Speaker 4: be able to do. So he seemed more pretty open
- 1:38:20Speaker 4: to all avenues about addressing personnel.
- 1:38:24Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:38:25Speaker 8: I went first with Ashton Grant, who was a local kid,
- 1:38:28Speaker 8: very happy to be back in the area. He said
- 1:38:30Speaker 8: he thinks it is his wife's favorite person right now
- 1:38:32Speaker 8: because her family and his family both live in Connecticut.
- 1:38:34Speaker 8: So they've moved back to the area and he's got
- 1:38:36Speaker 8: some help. But it's been working a lot with Josh said,
- 1:38:39Speaker 8: every day at like twelve thirty, they're going to Dunkin
- 1:38:41Speaker 8: Donuts and he's picking his brain. Seems very excited. Had
- 1:38:44Speaker 8: some experience with Rabel in Cleveland that he talked about
- 1:38:47Speaker 8: that was interesting, the kind of relationship that they built there.
- 1:38:51Speaker 8: I popped over to Todd Downing real quick, who just
- 1:38:53Speaker 8: echoed what McDaniel said about clean slates, that he had
- 1:38:56Speaker 8: done a lot of work on Polk and Baker coming out,
- 1:38:59Speaker 8: and you know that he has a lot of respect
- 1:39:01Speaker 8: for their talent and their skills and trying to get
- 1:39:03Speaker 8: them to a place where they can bring that out.
- 1:39:06Speaker 8: Hopped in on Tony Duce running backs coach. Seems like
- 1:39:09Speaker 8: a young Ivan fears to me, one of those deep
- 1:39:11Speaker 8: voice kind of has a presence about him. Was asked
- 1:39:14Speaker 8: a little bit about Ramondre spoke highly of him, of course.
- 1:39:17Speaker 8: And then lastly I hopped in with Thomas Brown, where
- 1:39:20Speaker 8: Evan was as well, and he was what was he
- 1:39:23Speaker 8: talking about?
- 1:39:24Speaker 4: Yeah, so we actually I enjoyed talking to Thomas Brown.
- 1:39:27Speaker 4: I mean, that's a guy that you can tell and
- 1:39:29Speaker 4: he was the interim coach in Chicago. He's been an
- 1:39:31Speaker 4: offensive coordinator. He definitely thinks like an offensive coordinator. You know,
- 1:39:36Speaker 4: his technical titles past game coordinator and tight ends coach,
- 1:39:40Speaker 4: but you can tell that he kind of thinks about
- 1:39:43Speaker 4: the scheme and the big picture stuff as much as
- 1:39:46Speaker 4: the minutia. And we just talked a little bit about
- 1:39:49Speaker 4: you know, what does that mean to be the pass
- 1:39:51Speaker 4: game coordinator? I think was the number one question he got.
- 1:39:53Speaker 4: He said he got three times, so I felt a
- 1:39:55Speaker 4: little bad about that, but you know, he basically said
- 1:39:57Speaker 4: that his job is to sort of be a sounding
- 1:40:01Speaker 4: board between you know, everybody, the players, other coaches, McDaniels,
- 1:40:06Speaker 4: to make sure that it's that the offense is as
- 1:40:10Speaker 4: good and as streamlined and making as much sense as
- 1:40:13Speaker 4: it possibly came in language wise. And then he also
- 1:40:16Speaker 4: said that you know, he'll have some input schematically on
- 1:40:20Speaker 4: play design and things like that, and you know, pulling
- 1:40:22Speaker 4: from his experiences in the past.
- 1:40:24Speaker 8: Yeah, the other thing was interesting just being selective Thomas
- 1:40:27Speaker 8: Brown talking about this opportunity and really being calculating about
- 1:40:30Speaker 8: what opportunities he he wanted to explore. Just said he
- 1:40:34Speaker 8: got a random text from Mike Rabel this offseason and
- 1:40:37Speaker 8: that's how the process all started. But yeah, it's good,
- 1:40:40Speaker 8: good staff, good good start off. I was fortunate I
- 1:40:43Speaker 8: didn't get to Marone.
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: A lot of media.
- 1:40:45Speaker 4: Yeah, a lot of media, Andy Hart, a lot of media.
- 1:40:47Speaker 8: Andy Hard as he can see on our TV here
- 1:40:48Speaker 8: the Red Sox are on. That's why I asked, I said,
- 1:40:51Speaker 8: Andy Hard as I live and breathe.
- 1:40:52Speaker 4: Yeah, McDaniels was peppered, I would say, not like in
- 1:40:55Speaker 4: like a negative way, but like there was just it
- 1:40:59Speaker 4: was kind of tough to get a question and you know,
- 1:41:01Speaker 4: there was a lot of people trying to ask questions
- 1:41:02Speaker 4: to him and.
- 1:41:04Speaker 3: Still we just had the same one over and over.
- 1:41:07Speaker 4: U man, But yeah, it was. It always puts me
- 1:41:11Speaker 4: in a tough spot, but yeah, it was good.
- 1:41:13Speaker 3: It was.
- 1:41:13Speaker 4: It was good to hear everybody.
- 1:41:16Speaker 3: Which one regg I knew that, I knew that, I
- 1:41:21Speaker 3: knew that would put a smile on my voice.
- 1:41:23Speaker 4: To tribe of course.
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: Yeah every night when we watched when my wife gets up,
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: I'm like, all that money. But he finally hit one.
- 1:41:32Speaker 5: Good.
- 1:41:33Speaker 8: Okay, I watched Little Socks ast night. Now with the
- 1:41:35Speaker 8: picture there, did pretty good. He had a nice had
- 1:41:37Speaker 8: a great.
- 1:41:37Speaker 4: Oh yeah, this is like Snabbers again.
- 1:41:41Speaker 8: Yeah that's his name.
- 1:41:48Speaker 2: He good. Yeah, so all right, fun with the offensive coaches.
- 1:41:53Speaker 8: Yeah, we'll have the Unfortunately Terrell Williams is out of town,
- 1:41:55Speaker 8: so we will not have the defensive coordinator.
- 1:41:57Speaker 3: They're gonna makes me feel better wop in.
- 1:41:59Speaker 8: Jerney's spring and we'll still meet with the defensive coaches tomorrow,
- 1:42:02Speaker 8: so it makes me feel I know, we don't cover
- 1:42:03Speaker 8: it with video, and there'll probably be some kind of video,
- 1:42:06Speaker 8: but we'll do it written up of those defensive coaches
- 1:42:08Speaker 8: as well.
- 1:42:08Speaker 4: Oh last thing, Thomas Brown was asked about game day
- 1:42:12Speaker 4: roles and if they've gone over you know, where people
- 1:42:14Speaker 4: are going to be and things like that, and somebody
- 1:42:17Speaker 4: asked them if who's going to call plays and he
- 1:42:20Speaker 4: was like, Josh is going to call the play, and so.
- 1:42:23Speaker 2: We're still doing that.
- 1:42:24Speaker 8: Yeah, that was just like three years ago.
- 1:42:26Speaker 4: Yeah, it was pretty funny. He was like, I think
- 1:42:28Speaker 4: Josh is going to handle that.
- 1:42:30Speaker 2: Remember the year during practice were trying to Patricia figure
- 1:42:35Speaker 2: out who's got the who's talking.
- 1:42:37Speaker 4: It does sound like they have.
- 1:42:38Speaker 8: Looks like Patricia Joe John just got a microphone to.
- 1:42:42Speaker 4: Talk to Thomas Brown maybe about sitting up in the
- 1:42:44Speaker 4: booth as eyes in the sky and you know, to
- 1:42:47Speaker 4: be in McDaniels zar from the booth.
- 1:42:49Speaker 2: So okay, Ryan and o'hido Ryan, o'hido Ryan and Idaho rights.
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: In listening on Tuesday, I experienced a little day javous
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: with fred saying that at bare minimum, Will Campbell will
- 1:43:03Speaker 2: be a really good guard if he doesn't pan out
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: a tackle. Freddie, he said this before. Remember when the
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: Pagris drafted Isaiah Win. You said his floord be a
- 1:43:11Speaker 2: Pro Bowl guard in the NFL. Win turned out to
- 1:43:14Speaker 2: be an oft injured and underwhelming offensive lineman, not even
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: remotely worthy of a first round pick, and they took
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: him twenty third, not fourth.
- 1:43:22Speaker 8: I did say that Isaiah winjard that.
- 1:43:28Speaker 23: Man may not come up when I was ripping you
- 1:43:29Speaker 23: off the Isaiah Win, like Isaiah Win was small for
- 1:43:34Speaker 23: an NFL offensive line right like by NFL standard guard,
- 1:43:38Speaker 23: center and tackle anywhere.
- 1:43:40Speaker 3: And I'm gonna be fair too and say there's a
- 1:43:42Speaker 3: big difference between the twenties the mid twenties where he
- 1:43:45Speaker 3: got picked in the fourth overall. Now the hit by
- 1:43:46Speaker 3: that that's a different no, that they both have two Now,
- 1:43:53Speaker 3: that's that's that's the big difference is uh, you know
- 1:43:56Speaker 3: Campbell was considered to be an elite prospect in this
- 1:43:59Speaker 3: particular draft to that and Win, you know Win really
- 1:44:02Speaker 3: wasn't now they both. I mean I think I could
- 1:44:04Speaker 3: make it. I could make the argument and just say, like,
- 1:44:07Speaker 3: you know, he played at a high level in the SEC,
- 1:44:09Speaker 3: which is the be all end all according to everybody now,
- 1:44:11Speaker 3: but I don't think that he's thought I don't think
- 1:44:13Speaker 3: Win was thought of as highly as Campbell is right now.
- 1:44:16Speaker 8: Yeah, well, I mean Campbell is just his arms. Everything
- 1:44:18Speaker 8: else stacks up.
- 1:44:21Speaker 2: Ryan also says, I understand Campbell is a much better
- 1:44:24Speaker 2: prospect than Win, and I would be shocked if he
- 1:44:26Speaker 2: does not have a better NFL career. But I will
- 1:44:28Speaker 2: personally be incredibly disappointed if a premium pick is used
- 1:44:32Speaker 2: on a player who ends up being a really good
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: guard with a guy like Janty available for the Patriots,
- 1:44:37Speaker 2: who Fred also gushed about on Tuesday. Fred, you said
- 1:44:41Speaker 2: the team who does take Janty will get an awesome player.
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: Let's be that team. Plus imagine Mike swooning over jant.
- 1:44:49Speaker 24: Gent's workout the shirtless I mean, I was just going
- 1:44:53Speaker 24: to bring that up, Paul. Actually I'm glad you brought
- 1:44:55Speaker 24: it up, because it was it wasn't quite Derek Henry
- 1:44:58Speaker 24: where it was just a mountain of him.
- 1:45:00Speaker 5: Man.
- 1:45:00Speaker 8: But that guy what they used to call that old
- 1:45:02Speaker 8: Doug what was that old running back from Tampa. The
- 1:45:04Speaker 8: muscle hamster that I mean, Genty is just he's like
- 1:45:07Speaker 8: a fire hydrant of muscle and it's impressive to see.
- 1:45:10Speaker 8: So yes, I'm glad I wrote that piece before I
- 1:45:13Speaker 8: saw him do that workout, So no one tried to
- 1:45:15Speaker 8: accuse me, like you're kind of insinuating now that it
- 1:45:18Speaker 8: was all based on how he looked with his shirt up.
- 1:45:19Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, Mike's he is thick.
- 1:45:24Speaker 2: Connor reminds us Paul that Harvey Langy was the undrafted
- 1:45:27Speaker 2: linebacker at seventeen who was involved in the car accident.
- 1:45:30Speaker 3: It was Harvey Longy, but yes, and that it must
- 1:45:33Speaker 3: be who Fred was thinking about. That's a good call, emailer.
- 1:45:36Speaker 2: Because I called Harold Landry Harvey Lang.
- 1:45:39Speaker 3: You know you said, you said Harvey Lang.
- 1:45:43Speaker 10: And Harvey Lang is like a random actor from some film,
- 1:45:46Speaker 10: a Lucille Ball somehow.
- 1:45:48Speaker 3: I don't even Harley.
- 1:45:51Speaker 8: You haven't seen Johns and you know who Lucille Ball is.
- 1:45:53Speaker 4: This is I love dig.
- 1:45:55Speaker 3: But that's a good call by the emailer, because that's
- 1:45:57Speaker 3: exactly that's absolutely who Fred was thinking. Harvey LONGI in
- 1:46:01Speaker 3: his mind, and that's why he said Harvey Lang.
- 1:46:05Speaker 2: Las Vegas says, Bill is Parcels nickname. What is Bill
- 1:46:09Speaker 2: parcells actual first name?
- 1:46:11Speaker 3: Twaine? That's correct, Dwayne Charles Parcells.
- 1:46:15Speaker 2: He's not even there's not even a William there.
- 1:46:16Speaker 8: Did anyone ever ask him how you got the Bill important?
- 1:46:19Speaker 8: No can ask him about.
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: The Hall of Fame. I do know how he actually
- 1:46:23Speaker 2: got the tuna one on it, but I can't say
- 1:46:25Speaker 2: it on air.
- 1:46:27Speaker 8: Looks like a tuna.
- 1:46:28Speaker 3: Sorry, he looked like a tuna silver sun kissed. Let's see,
- 1:46:33Speaker 3: they didn't have silver heroin. They called him tuna when
- 1:46:36Speaker 3: they first called him.
- 1:46:37Speaker 8: I guess right. Tunas are probably like blue.
- 1:46:39Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, they're they're shiny I can only imagine what
- 1:46:43Speaker 3: Haven't thinks of this? He doesn't even like the trivia questions.
- 1:46:45Speaker 8: We're talking about colors of tuna.
- 1:46:48Speaker 2: Were just.
- 1:46:54Speaker 24: Doesn't haven't sleep like someone says sleep mode.
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: And then you mentioned you can't even argue that's true.
- 1:47:08Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:47:09Speaker 4: I mean, like tuna on your own time, youven like tuna.
- 1:47:12Speaker 10: I was gonna say, there's no way iven't eats tuna.
- 1:47:15Speaker 2: You don't eat tuna.
- 1:47:16Speaker 4: I like a good tuna melt, but like I'm not
- 1:47:18Speaker 4: gonna eat like a like a seared piece of tuna.
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: Have you ever had it?
- 1:47:22Speaker 13: Yeah, you don't know.
- 1:47:24Speaker 8: You got a good sauce.
- 1:47:25Speaker 2: It's like swordfish.
- 1:47:26Speaker 8: Yeah, it's like swordfish spicy tunable.
- 1:47:29Speaker 3: I'm not a huge seafood guy, but Fred Fred and
- 1:47:31Speaker 3: Alex are right, you get a good sword fish. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:47:36Speaker 3: it's almost like it's almost like you can you can
- 1:47:39Speaker 3: fake yourself out into thinking you're eating meat.
- 1:47:41Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, tuna is my go to for sushi anytime,
- 1:47:43Speaker 8: Like that's the bast spicy Eat a nice spicy tuna.
- 1:47:48Speaker 3: Greg, we can all just come together, Yeah, I mean,
- 1:47:51Speaker 3: no arguing.
- 1:47:52Speaker 2: You know, sushi was the common bones.
- 1:47:54Speaker 4: I do love sushi. There you go, Greg.
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: Says, So, you guys were talking about the pages whole
- 1:48:00Speaker 2: fame and coaches getting in a few days ago. I
- 1:48:02Speaker 2: was wondering if anyone thinks Josh McDaniel should be in
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: there someday. I'm not sure if I'd put him in myself,
- 1:48:08Speaker 2: and I doubt Fred would either, but he's had a
- 1:48:10Speaker 2: pretty successful Patriot's career, both on and off for about
- 1:48:13Speaker 2: twenty years now, thanks for the many years of content.
- 1:48:17Speaker 8: I mean, I didn't quite think that while I was watching,
- 1:48:19Speaker 8: and I was just feeling, I'm kind of nostalgic. I
- 1:48:22Speaker 8: like having Josh back, that nostalgia of having someone familiar back,
- 1:48:25Speaker 8: and I'm a sucker for it, no question. But I
- 1:48:27Speaker 8: did think this is the first time he's been an
- 1:48:29Speaker 8: offensive coordinator under a coach not Bill Belichick.
- 1:48:32Speaker 2: Right, So let's say right now, MS briefly, right, But
- 1:48:37Speaker 2: if he and this this is the chance, this is
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: the chance to have like playoff runs and the offense
- 1:48:43Speaker 2: is great, and he retires, I might consider that.
- 1:48:47Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I was wondering, probably in a Super
- 1:48:50Speaker 4: Bowl kind of in like a similar category as Dante Scarneki, like,
- 1:48:54Speaker 4: would Anie Adams get any he should he should, you know,
- 1:48:58Speaker 4: like consideration, like as a contr or not not to
- 1:49:01Speaker 4: be on the ballot.
- 1:49:01Speaker 8: But well, that was that was my first thought when
- 1:49:03Speaker 8: we were initially hearing that that the parcels thing was
- 1:49:06Speaker 8: going to happen, and it was like, who do you
- 1:49:07Speaker 8: think it is? And Ernie was the first one off
- 1:49:08Speaker 8: the top of my head. It's a contributor, which would
- 1:49:12Speaker 8: have been weird to put him in before Bill, I think.
- 1:49:13Speaker 4: But yeah, that's probably fair.
- 1:49:15Speaker 3: It's good to see Ernie today.
- 1:49:17Speaker 8: Oh yeah, how was he doing? He looked good, spry.
- 1:49:19Speaker 3: Did he look the same as he always do? You think?
- 1:49:22Speaker 3: Didn't change it all? His newspaper didn't change it all.
- 1:49:26Speaker 3: I don't. I didn't see the newspaper, the New York Times.
- 1:49:29Speaker 3: He did come in with his umbrella, always really wet
- 1:49:31Speaker 3: out there.
- 1:49:32Speaker 8: Underrated part of the schedule release last year was like
- 1:49:34Speaker 8: Ernie had a very small part, but it was kind
- 1:49:36Speaker 8: of like throughout the day he had random pieces and
- 1:49:39Speaker 8: while he wasn't being in the shoot, he just sat
- 1:49:41Speaker 8: in Fred's office and read the newspaper.
- 1:49:45Speaker 2: For him because it was so much downtime. So I'm
- 1:49:48Speaker 2: sitting at the table with him and like I'm trying
- 1:49:50Speaker 2: to think of something to uh. He's reading the newspaper
- 1:49:54Speaker 2: and I'm like, well, stock market had a good day,
- 1:49:57Speaker 2: and he's like mm hmm. And it's like, you know,
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: like a husband talking to the wife, you know, like
- 1:50:03Speaker 2: that was the exactly looks back down at the paper.
- 1:50:05Speaker 8: That was the exact response I got when I told
- 1:50:07Speaker 8: them I kept track of Bill's hoodies and mm hmmm. Right,
- 1:50:10Speaker 8: I went over like a lead balloon. All right, never mind.
- 1:50:13Speaker 8: I thought you might be stats guy, but.
- 1:50:15Speaker 2: I know what you do. I've heard about you. Donovan
- 1:50:18Speaker 2: writes in Rabel has talked up the value of some
- 1:50:21Speaker 2: ill liked players among Patriots fans, Guys like Wallace, Booty Strange.
- 1:50:26Speaker 2: For example, Which players from the twenty two to twenty
- 1:50:29Speaker 2: four drafts do you think could surprise us under a
- 1:50:32Speaker 2: hypothetical better coaching situation? So who can get better than
- 1:50:39Speaker 2: what they're currently perceived at because of coaching.
- 1:50:41Speaker 8: I'd hope Jalen Polk. I would hope Jalen Polk. I'm
- 1:50:43Speaker 8: not ready to say yes, Jalen Polk, but.
- 1:50:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean otherwise, it's guys that have been injured,
- 1:50:48Speaker 3: like Strange, Wallace, like they've been able to play. They've
- 1:50:52Speaker 3: been hurt a lot.
- 1:50:54Speaker 4: I would say Keon White like I feel like ke
- 1:50:56Speaker 4: White with Rabel and Terrell Williams. Yeah, yeah, maybe those
- 1:51:00Speaker 4: two guys can. Rabel has talked about it, you know,
- 1:51:02Speaker 4: getting his technique a little bit better and getting him
- 1:51:05Speaker 4: a little bit more developed. I feel like maybe maybe
- 1:51:09Speaker 4: there's another more consistent level. I don't know if there's another.
- 1:51:12Speaker 3: That's why with you guys, I threw him out as
- 1:51:15Speaker 3: a starter, and I was surprised that we just saw
- 1:51:17Speaker 3: it because I don't think of Chase On as a
- 1:51:19Speaker 3: starting no defensive lineman. I think him be more of
- 1:51:22Speaker 3: as a sub rusher. I think there's going to be
- 1:51:25Speaker 3: an opportunity for ke On White to do exactly what.
- 1:51:27Speaker 4: Yeah, four three end.
- 1:51:29Speaker 8: I agree with what you're saying. I guess the way
- 1:51:31Speaker 8: I approached it was the thing where we stick the
- 1:51:34Speaker 8: veteran experienced guy who knows what he's doing when we
- 1:51:37Speaker 8: go out on the depth chart on OTAs and we're
- 1:51:39Speaker 8: getting started. But I do agree with you that he
- 1:51:41Speaker 8: should have every opportunity to win that job over Chase On.
- 1:51:44Speaker 8: I just don't think he'll start off as the guy
- 1:51:47Speaker 8: on the as the defensive right.
- 1:51:48Speaker 4: But like Chase on coming on the field on third down,
- 1:51:53Speaker 4: the bumping inside at that point, because what he does
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: best is rushing on the guards. I could be the
- 1:51:57Speaker 4: first one to tell you that he's actually really good
- 1:52:00Speaker 4: at it from like just a statistical perspective, But the
- 1:52:03Speaker 4: edge rushing stuff is just spraw. You know, he blows
- 1:52:06Speaker 4: back the quarterback. He's not good against a run out there.
- 1:52:08Speaker 4: There's just a lot of work to be.
- 1:52:09Speaker 2: Done Travis and Baltimore. I re listened to the postgame
- 1:52:12Speaker 2: show after the end of the season Bill's game, and
- 1:52:15Speaker 2: it was seemed the general statement at the time was
- 1:52:17Speaker 2: that dropping from one to four was not a huge deal.
- 1:52:20Speaker 3: I am guilty of that. I am absolutely guilty too.
- 1:52:23Speaker 2: Not me. I am not trying to relitigate the debate
- 1:52:26Speaker 2: of whether or not the team should have tried quote
- 1:52:28Speaker 2: to lose, because I think every rational person understands there
- 1:52:32Speaker 2: isn't anything more the team could have done to actively
- 1:52:34Speaker 2: lose that game. I do want to revisit the sentiment
- 1:52:37Speaker 2: that dropping from one to four was not a big deal,
- 1:52:40Speaker 2: though specifically Mike said that he was happy we could
- 1:52:44Speaker 2: debate who the team would rather take it for rather
- 1:52:46Speaker 2: than just settle on Travis Hunter. Do you all still
- 1:52:49Speaker 2: feel the same or has your thought process changed at all?
- 1:52:52Speaker 2: As it seems we are sitting at the precipice of
- 1:52:55Speaker 2: a no man's land at four with the inability to
- 1:52:58Speaker 2: ensure a blue chip prosper.
- 1:53:00Speaker 8: Well, talk to me after the draft and if Hunter
- 1:53:02Speaker 8: Carter fall then I'd probably go back to not really caring.
- 1:53:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I care. I was wrong because I think there's
- 1:53:09Speaker 3: this They're picking four in a two man draft, so yeah,
- 1:53:13Speaker 3: I would like to be in this position where I
- 1:53:14Speaker 3: could get one of those two. And I was I'm
- 1:53:16Speaker 3: not going to sugarcoat it and say I didn't say it.
- 1:53:19Speaker 3: I did say it. Their email is right. I didn't
- 1:53:21Speaker 3: think it was that big a deal. My reasoning for
- 1:53:24Speaker 3: saying it wasn't that big a deal is I didn't
- 1:53:26Speaker 3: think there was a lot of value in one. I
- 1:53:27Speaker 3: didn't think I don't think people were going to be
- 1:53:29Speaker 3: clamoring to trade up. And I was talking about at
- 1:53:31Speaker 3: the time the quarterbacks. I don't think anything has happened
- 1:53:34Speaker 3: since then to change my mind. Now, what I didn't
- 1:53:37Speaker 3: know at the time was that really there's only two
- 1:53:40Speaker 3: guys that everybody are lockstep being worthy of being taken
- 1:53:44Speaker 3: that high. And that's where I was wrong.
- 1:53:46Speaker 2: Me too, Me too, I was wrong too.
- 1:53:49Speaker 3: You were on it, you thought. I mean, I still
- 1:53:51Speaker 3: don't think it's like to be all end all, but
- 1:53:53Speaker 3: I was wrong. There's two guys and you're picking fourth.
- 1:53:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I just I guess maybe I The overrated part
- 1:54:01Speaker 4: about it from my perspective was like, you probably weren't
- 1:54:03Speaker 4: going to get anything for the first overall pick in
- 1:54:06Speaker 4: a draft like this, like the quarterbacks. To Paul's point,
- 1:54:09Speaker 4: you know a lot of people I think, thought, oh,
- 1:54:11Speaker 4: we get a king's ransom for the first overall pick,
- 1:54:13Speaker 4: like you lost out on that.
- 1:54:14Speaker 3: I didn't think that that existed.
- 1:54:15Speaker 4: Yeah, to me, I it we were right about the
- 1:54:19Speaker 4: fact that they might miss out on Travis Hunter and
- 1:54:21Speaker 4: Abdul Carter because they won that game, but that trade
- 1:54:24Speaker 4: is probably not there. So I think we were both
- 1:54:26Speaker 4: kind of right in a way.
- 1:54:27Speaker 8: But if you drafted Travis Hunter, I wouldn't feel as
- 1:54:30Speaker 8: bad about it. I mean, that's one of the two guys.
- 1:54:32Speaker 8: I think. Then the debate becomes and this is the
- 1:54:34Speaker 8: same debate we would have been having if they had
- 1:54:36Speaker 8: the first overall pick. Is Carter Hunter who do you prefer?
- 1:54:39Speaker 8: And then you could say, well, they got Hunter, but
- 1:54:41Speaker 8: really Carter was the guy that you would have gotten
- 1:54:43Speaker 8: in one overall and that would have been the difference.
- 1:54:44Speaker 8: But I was wrong in the moment. But we'll see,
- 1:54:46Speaker 8: We'll see how it all comes.
- 1:54:46Speaker 3: So I like the Paul liked stubbornness. I'm gonna wait
- 1:54:50Speaker 3: and hold out until until April twenty fourth. You're not
- 1:54:53Speaker 3: wrong yet. I like it yet. Paul liked Stubbornness. I
- 1:54:57Speaker 3: appreciate it.
- 1:54:58Speaker 2: Sam and London also criticiz me just catching up with
- 1:55:01Speaker 2: Tuesday show for the first half hour. Despite Fred's protestations,
- 1:55:05Speaker 2: all I can hear is Fred kurs Cerker twenty eighteen
- 1:55:08Speaker 2: colon Isaiah win worst case scenario, he's a pro Bowl guard.
- 1:55:12Speaker 2: How that work out? Not saying it's gonna happen. Campbell
- 1:55:16Speaker 2: is a far superior prospect. But that kind of speculation
- 1:55:19Speaker 2: is just a bit silly. Well, are we not supposed
- 1:55:22Speaker 2: to speculate about guys going into the NFL? Isn't that
- 1:55:26Speaker 2: the show?
- 1:55:26Speaker 8: We have a show to do today, So I guess
- 1:55:29Speaker 8: we could just.
- 1:55:30Speaker 2: Say every guy, I don't know how he's gonna play.
- 1:55:32Speaker 3: I think, but I do think that you were operating
- 1:55:35Speaker 3: under a premise that I don't think is right. I
- 1:55:39Speaker 3: don't think it's any more correct for Will Campbell than
- 1:55:41Speaker 3: it is anybody else. It's basically my point. Forget Isaiah
- 1:55:44Speaker 3: win he's a better prospect than Isaiah Winn was. I
- 1:55:46Speaker 3: would agree with you on that. But you have this
- 1:55:50Speaker 3: notion that if he doesn't work out a tackle, there's
- 1:55:53Speaker 3: no risk because he's a great guard. And I don't
- 1:55:55Speaker 3: think that this guy is different than anybody else has
- 1:55:57Speaker 3: ever come in the league that I don't have a
- 1:55:58Speaker 3: worry that he.
- 1:55:59Speaker 8: Can play at all. Sure, but you're operator, there's no
- 1:56:02Speaker 8: worry that anything can.
- 1:56:03Speaker 2: Happen with anything. But I'm trying to like minimize risk.
- 1:56:06Speaker 2: You're trying to use the odds. You're trying to make
- 1:56:08Speaker 2: your best, guess, right, my best, And that's with him.
- 1:56:10Speaker 3: And that's why philosophical opposition to your theory. Okay, so
- 1:56:13Speaker 3: then that's all.
- 1:56:14Speaker 2: But there's this to me, there's a safety net there
- 1:56:17Speaker 2: with him, you know, if he doesn't play tacko.
- 1:56:21Speaker 3: Right, And that's why, like we all, we all chime in,
- 1:56:25Speaker 3: we all have our thoughts. Fred's thought is he doesn't
- 1:56:28Speaker 3: see them being a possibility that he's not at least
- 1:56:30Speaker 3: a good guard. Right, Like someone else looks at it differently,
- 1:56:34Speaker 3: I look at it differently. I don't think that there's
- 1:56:36Speaker 3: any more of a chance that he's a good guard
- 1:56:38Speaker 3: than there is of astroon Genty being a great running back.
- 1:56:41Speaker 3: I don't really see I think that.
- 1:56:44Speaker 2: So is there any guy that you're sure of of anything?
- 1:56:46Speaker 3: No? Absolutely not. But you are you're sure of Will Campbell.
- 1:56:49Speaker 8: No, that's right, that's that's the philosophical opposition.
- 1:56:53Speaker 2: I have a pair. I have a pair, and you
- 1:56:56Speaker 2: know parallel jelse.
- 1:56:58Speaker 3: But no, you're right, you are sure that he's a
- 1:57:01Speaker 3: good guard. I'm not.
- 1:57:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm willing to go out on a limb.
- 1:57:05Speaker 3: I'm more sure that Genty's going to be a productive
- 1:57:07Speaker 3: running back down I am that Will Campbell's going to
- 1:57:09Speaker 3: be a good guard.
- 1:57:09Speaker 2: I might say that, but that's not the position. That's
- 1:57:12Speaker 2: not a position.
- 1:57:13Speaker 4: Kind of on the fence.
- 1:57:16Speaker 3: M I just don't like because I'll be honest, this
- 1:57:21Speaker 3: goes back like ten to fifteen years of this draft stuff,
- 1:57:24Speaker 3: and for some reason and Fred Will backed me on
- 1:57:28Speaker 3: this offensive linemen are just perceived to be much safer
- 1:57:32Speaker 3: than all the other positions like go with the safe
- 1:57:34Speaker 3: pick the offensive line. Don't worry about Evan Neil. The
- 1:57:37Speaker 3: fact that he's a couple of years into his career,
- 1:57:39Speaker 3: can't play and they have to move him to guard.
- 1:57:40Speaker 3: Now that's a good thing, right, that's good. Like I
- 1:57:44Speaker 3: worry about that stuff, And I think there's a lot
- 1:57:47Speaker 3: of people Fred, this is.
- 1:57:48Speaker 2: Not a shot, you know, go ahead, take a shot,
- 1:57:51Speaker 2: But a lot.
- 1:57:51Speaker 3: Of people operate under the Fred theory of he's so good,
- 1:57:55Speaker 3: he's safe. Like I'm pretty sure these other guys that
- 1:57:59Speaker 3: came out were really well thought of, These offensive linemen
- 1:58:02Speaker 3: that didn't pan out in the top ten Robert Gallery.
- 1:58:05Speaker 3: Bill Belichick told me, was it like a really he
- 1:58:09Speaker 3: was like a generational type prospect. Short arms didn't pan out. Like,
- 1:58:17Speaker 3: for some reason, people think offensive line is safe. And
- 1:58:21Speaker 3: I guess that's what I'm sort of pushing back on,
- 1:58:23Speaker 3: more so than Fred's theory of if he doesn't work
- 1:58:26Speaker 3: at tackle, he'll be a good guard.
- 1:58:27Speaker 4: But isn't that true with every player in the.
- 1:58:29Speaker 3: Yes, yes, he said, but for some reason, offensive linemen
- 1:58:32Speaker 3: are resolved of this.
- 1:58:33Speaker 8: Right, But like, don't you take a wide receiver that's
- 1:58:35Speaker 8: really risky?
- 1:58:36Speaker 4: But like gent D for example, Yes, there's huge risk,
- 1:58:40Speaker 4: like he played at Boise State.
- 1:58:41Speaker 3: Like what if he's Curtis Enis or I'm.
- 1:58:46Speaker 4: Just saying like he his specialty is that he breaks
- 1:58:50Speaker 4: a bunch of tackles. What if he gets to the
- 1:58:52Speaker 4: pros and it ain't as easy to break the tackles anymore? Correct,
- 1:58:55Speaker 4: Like that's all I'm not saying that's gonna be true.
- 1:58:58Speaker 3: That's exactly what I would worry about. But the only
- 1:59:00Speaker 3: bestween me and everybody else, not everybody else you worry
- 1:59:02Speaker 3: about is I worry about the tackle not being able
- 1:59:05Speaker 3: to block to, not just the running back not being
- 1:59:07Speaker 3: able to break tackles. But for some reason we don't
- 1:59:12Speaker 3: have a consensus.
- 1:59:13Speaker 4: There is there a position that you would jo He'll.
- 1:59:17Speaker 8: What is your what is your safe position? Running back?
- 1:59:23Speaker 3: That is my safe position?
- 1:59:26Speaker 2: Whatever she tells me to do.
- 1:59:28Speaker 3: Wait, what whatever Beth tells me to do it, that's
- 1:59:31Speaker 3: going to keep me out of trouble. Okay, that's my
- 1:59:33Speaker 3: safe word? What should I do? Honey?
- 1:59:36Speaker 2: All r Yes, we're gonna call it a show. Thanks
