Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: FT Live postgame show, Game five is done, Let's talk
- 0:05Speaker 1: about it. The show is presented by Fox one bron
- 0:08Speaker 1: Krazinski Krats and we watched rookie Treya Savage look like
- 0:13Speaker 1: he's been there before.
- 0:15Speaker 2: That was one of the most impressive rookie performances ever.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Yeah, one of the best performances of forget rookies just
- 0:25Speaker 3: like anybody ever.
- 0:27Speaker 4: I mean, he went out and just dominated.
- 0:29Speaker 3: And you know his numbers when he faces the team
- 0:33Speaker 3: for the second time, he's what three to oh now
- 0:35Speaker 3: with us basically under.
- 0:37Speaker 4: A sub two.
- 0:38Speaker 3: I don't know how much lower it fell tonight, but
- 0:41Speaker 3: Treya Savage is the real deal for the Blue Jays
- 0:44Speaker 3: if he's obviously with pitchers, it's always if they stay healthy.
- 0:48Speaker 3: But this is somebody they can build on. I mean,
- 0:50Speaker 3: this is a guy they can legitimate. This is the
- 0:53Speaker 3: Remember when they had Alec Manoa and everyone's like, oh,
- 0:55Speaker 3: this is a guy that can I mean, this guy
- 0:57Speaker 3: is filthy.
- 1:00Speaker 1: More World Series strikeouts than regular season straight he starts,
- 1:04Speaker 1: I know. But the point is Kratz that he looks
- 1:09Speaker 1: like he belongs in the postseason from the jump, and
- 1:12Speaker 1: you often see rookies look a little shaky when they're
- 1:16Speaker 1: thrown into the mix like this in the postseason, let
- 1:19Speaker 1: alone the World Series. That's just not the case with
- 1:22Speaker 1: this dude. Did you hear at one point, I think
- 1:24Speaker 1: Berducci said most swings and misses in a World Series
- 1:28Speaker 1: game since pitch tracking began in two thousand and eight.
- 1:32Speaker 1: So he was fooling hitters who are already really going
- 1:36Speaker 1: through it. The Dodgers offense is slump city right now,
- 1:39Speaker 1: and the lineup change did nothing not.
- 1:43Speaker 5: To change the subject to their hitting. But this is
- 1:45Speaker 5: a really good hitting lineup. I get it. They were
- 1:49Speaker 5: not good tonight, but like you're talking about three Hall
- 1:52Speaker 5: of famers that you have to navigate through at the
- 1:56Speaker 5: top of the order tonight three of the top four.
- 1:58Speaker 5: I don't know where Will Smith up, but I liked
- 2:01Speaker 5: the move of moving Will Smith right behind show. Hey,
- 2:04Speaker 5: it's like you gotta throw strikes. So to me, I
- 2:07Speaker 5: I just it was so impressive what he did tonight.
- 2:12Speaker 4: Well Smith went through it tonight, and I'm gonna say
- 2:14Speaker 4: that right now.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Will Smith.
- 2:16Speaker 4: Well Smith went through it defensively.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Do you hear them freaking out about that one being
- 2:22Speaker 1: called the passball?
- 2:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean they kind of went over that a
- 2:25Speaker 3: little bit, but Will Smith went through it tonight defensively.
- 2:28Speaker 3: That was that was not his best performance defensively. But
- 2:33Speaker 3: I mean Grant, I mean Snell. Snell is hard to catch.
- 2:35Speaker 3: But wow, I was, I was just I just I
- 2:40Speaker 3: can't get over. First of all, your savage is really
- 2:42Speaker 3: good what we've seen. And two, the Dodgers can't hit,
- 2:45Speaker 3: like the if Freddy Freeman and show, hey don't hit.
- 2:48Speaker 3: I know Kik hit the one homer, but other than that,
- 2:51Speaker 3: there is nothing going on in this line. There is
- 2:53Speaker 3: no pressure. They don't even put pressure. Smoll said it
- 2:56Speaker 3: best when he said, these are been easy innings. There
- 2:59Speaker 3: have been no stress. Those were no stress innings.
- 3:03Speaker 2: You know who can hit? The Blue Jays?
- 3:06Speaker 3: Yeah, well the Blue You know what the Blue Jays
- 3:07Speaker 3: did and krats sorry, but they attack you early, like
- 3:13Speaker 3: first pitch, like they're like, what do we talk about,
- 3:15Speaker 3: Blake Snow Like if I'm a lefty and I'm barger
- 3:17Speaker 3: and I'm these guys, I'm not I'm want three swings,
- 3:20Speaker 3: I'm not taking one.
- 3:21Speaker 4: And what did they come out doing?
- 3:22Speaker 3: They were like first strike whack, first strike whack, and
- 3:24Speaker 3: they knew that. Snell said, what do you say, I
- 3:27Speaker 3: need to make better for pitches my fastball. So and
- 3:30Speaker 3: in their mind they're like, as soon as he throws
- 3:32Speaker 3: that heater, he they scared him right off that heater
- 3:34Speaker 3: early he was the first one homer and then the
- 3:36Speaker 3: third one. He threw one for a homer, and before
- 3:38Speaker 3: he knew it was two nothing, the game was over.
- 3:40Speaker 3: And then Snow was like curveball, slider, curveball, slider, curveball, changed.
- 3:44Speaker 4: Up curball, curveball, curveball.
- 3:45Speaker 3: I mean except Andre Simonez everyone else. He got everybody
- 3:49Speaker 3: with breaking balls.
- 3:51Speaker 1: It's a nightmare first inning Kratz. They even threw a
- 3:54Speaker 1: couple of challenges on him. They just did not want
- 3:56Speaker 1: him to leave the field. John Schneider with the double
- 3:58Speaker 1: first inning challenge.
- 4:01Speaker 5: I mean back back to back challenges and the old
- 4:05Speaker 5: the old mid section tag finally got him out of it.
- 4:08Speaker 5: But man, like you, you just you go into it
- 4:13Speaker 5: with a game plan of oh, I'm definitely gonna use
- 4:15Speaker 5: my fastball, and they said three pitches in, no, you're not.
- 4:20Speaker 5: If you do that, it's going to be a really
- 4:21Speaker 5: short night for you. Credit to Blake Snow because we're
- 4:24Speaker 5: not going to talk about it much after this one
- 4:27Speaker 5: hundred and fourteen pitches. He did awesome. His first three
- 4:32Speaker 5: not so much.
- 4:34Speaker 4: Oh you know what, he did awesome. He got my luck.
- 4:37Speaker 4: He got my luck. He got my luck on the
- 4:39Speaker 4: last hitter of the game.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Sixteen.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Yeah, what a what a way to end my betting
- 4:46Speaker 3: season in the positives in the regular season and in
- 4:50Speaker 3: the positives in the postseason. But yes, you're right, Blake
- 4:55Speaker 3: Snow was not the problem.
- 4:56Speaker 2: It's one run, Tracy, Your Savage was the problem the.
- 5:00Speaker 5: Whole Dodgers' offense.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Can other teams hit that? Or is this just tip
- 5:04Speaker 1: your cap? The slider and the splitter were so on.
- 5:08Speaker 1: There was also I mean, there was a ton of chase.
- 5:10Speaker 1: But I'm like, is this chase from an offense that's
- 5:13Speaker 1: going through it or chase from a team that's looking at.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Really a picture? I'll almost joke.
- 5:17Speaker 1: But for the first time, you Savage didn't have his
- 5:20Speaker 1: splitter last time around against the Dodgers.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Oh shit, what's this? They didn't have it last time
- 5:27Speaker 2: or he didn't have it.
- 5:28Speaker 4: He had it tonight.
- 5:29Speaker 2: He really had it.
- 5:30Speaker 5: I liked what Dave Roberts said. Dave Roberts said in
- 5:33Speaker 5: the one in between any talk. He said, I gotta
- 5:38Speaker 5: see more aggressive swings, and because they really looked like
- 5:42Speaker 5: they were flailing, So is you Savage's stuff that nasty tonight?
- 5:46Speaker 5: That it was just like they were taking a slider
- 5:50Speaker 5: because they thought it was going to break out of
- 5:52Speaker 5: the zone and then it just is that twelve six
- 5:55Speaker 5: slider and then they think the splitter is going to
- 5:58Speaker 5: be the heater every single time. I mean it was,
- 6:00Speaker 5: it was some. There were some flailing swings there, swings
- 6:03Speaker 5: you don't normally see from the Dodgers.
- 6:06Speaker 1: No, it's just crazy how he did this with almost
- 6:11Speaker 1: no experience and you just jumped into the post.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Sometimes what you don't know is the best thing. Sometimes
- 6:18Speaker 3: if you just don't know, it's the best thing.
- 6:19Speaker 2: I wonder if teams are going to try to replicate this.
- 6:22Speaker 4: You gotta have special people with special stuff. Remember John
- 6:25Speaker 4: lay John Lackey was a rookie.
- 6:27Speaker 3: I remember he started Game seven in the World Series
- 6:29Speaker 3: two thousand and two, was on the same team Donald.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Remember those guys.
- 6:35Speaker 3: But you got to have a special, special guy that
- 6:39Speaker 3: was able to do this and start. I know there's
- 6:41Speaker 3: been relievers that have come up fin again, right fin
- 6:43Speaker 3: again with the Royals, that one year. But it's hard
- 6:46Speaker 3: to find rookies, especially with no big league experience, like
- 6:49Speaker 3: he had to come in and do this. But they
- 6:52Speaker 3: nailed the makeup, they nailed the stuff, and man, the
- 6:55Speaker 3: Dodgers gotta just they gotta, they gotta. I don't know
- 6:59Speaker 3: if they if take take the day off, don't touch
- 7:01Speaker 3: a bat.
- 7:02Speaker 4: I don't know. Find a voodoo, I don't know.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Something I find anything as shaman when they go to Toronto,
- 7:09Speaker 3: I mean anything they can find to try to get
- 7:10Speaker 3: their bats going. Because right now the Blue Jays not
- 7:13Speaker 3: only is there their pitching dominating, but they just look
- 7:16Speaker 3: like the better team. The Blue Jays look like the
- 7:18Speaker 3: better team.
- 7:19Speaker 6: In every past they d They play tight d Yeah,
- 7:24Speaker 6: Barger made a great play in the bottom of the
- 7:26Speaker 6: six and then actually I mean ran the bass as
- 7:28Speaker 6: well as soon as he saw something.
- 7:30Speaker 3: But they put But the Blue Jays put the ball
- 7:32Speaker 3: in play, which we always talk about.
- 7:33Speaker 4: They put the ball in play for power.
- 7:35Speaker 3: They run the bases, they don't make mistakes defensively right
- 7:40Speaker 3: they're pitching, they throw strikes, they don't walk a ton
- 7:42Speaker 3: of guys. This is a really good team. They had
- 7:44Speaker 3: the best record in the American League for a reason.
- 7:46Speaker 3: I just think everyone looked and said, well, the Dodgers
- 7:48Speaker 3: are the Dodgers. Eventually, they're just gonna just figure out away.
- 7:51Speaker 3: But right now, the Blue Jays one through twenty six,
- 7:53Speaker 3: it look like the better roster in this World Series.
- 7:56Speaker 1: And we give the contact credit. We see plenty of that.
- 8:00Speaker 1: So we're tied for eleventh.
- 8:01Speaker 3: In Homer's I said, they contact with power, especially in
- 8:04Speaker 3: this and they you know what, and you can't.
- 8:06Speaker 4: You can't.
- 8:08Speaker 3: You can't quantify this. And I think this is why
- 8:10Speaker 3: it drives analytics people crazy. They get big hits, man,
- 8:14Speaker 3: they just get they.
- 8:16Speaker 4: Just right crats.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Like you watch these games and don't you have the
- 8:19Speaker 3: feeling like Ernie Clement comes up first and third and
- 8:23Speaker 3: smells carving everybody. You know, he's gonna put the ball
- 8:26Speaker 3: in play and hit the sackfly er, you know. Or
- 8:29Speaker 3: Andre Simenez off the lefty yesterday just flays the ball
- 8:33Speaker 3: over the shortstops head for k not. Like they just
- 8:36Speaker 3: come up with these hits and they're just bone crushing
- 8:39Speaker 3: for the Dodgers because it's two outs and RB they
- 8:42Speaker 3: just don't leave the guys on base.
- 8:44Speaker 5: That's the key. They Yeah, But why Why did they
- 8:48Speaker 5: come up with the hits? Why did they come up
- 8:50Speaker 5: with the hits and the Dodgers didn't tonight because the
- 8:53Speaker 5: Dodgers were swinging and missing. Teams that don't come up
- 8:55Speaker 5: with the big hits rarely is it because man, we
- 8:58Speaker 5: just we ground into a lot of double plays. No,
- 9:02Speaker 5: it's usually the fact that you're swinging and missing. Maybe
- 9:05Speaker 5: not with two outs, maybe not in that situation, but
- 9:08Speaker 5: you're not getting the runner over when the guy's on
- 9:11Speaker 5: second and he advanced there on a wild pitch. Putting
- 9:16Speaker 5: the ball in play is such a such a superpower
- 9:21Speaker 5: in the game now. Before it wasn't a superpower. Before
- 9:24Speaker 5: it was like you're supposed to put the ball in play.
- 9:27Speaker 5: I've heard AJ say it countless times. I hated striking out.
- 9:31Speaker 5: Striking out was embarrassing, like you don't want to strike out.
- 9:35Speaker 5: And I think the game has allowed it to be
- 9:40Speaker 5: a little bit more okay. And the Blue Jays are like, no,
- 9:43Speaker 5: you know what, it's not okay. We're gonna go ahead
- 9:46Speaker 5: and do this as a team. And they've done it
- 9:49Speaker 5: and they haven't shied away from it, and it's got
- 9:52Speaker 5: them one win away from a World Series. Championship.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I also saw some people pointing out strikeout numbers heading
- 9:58Speaker 1: into this game, being close with the the Dodgers. In
- 10:00Speaker 1: the Blue Jays, there was an eighteen ninning game or
- 10:04Speaker 1: half their lineup was out, and that struck out a lot.
- 10:06Speaker 1: So let's wipe that start away, please. But I do
- 10:08Speaker 1: want to bring up to Oscar Hernandez and his defense.
- 10:13Speaker 1: This defense MLB nine inning twenty five shown off swaggy cards.
- 10:17Speaker 1: But in this case, we got to talk about what
- 10:20Speaker 1: happened with Tao in right field?
- 10:22Speaker 2: Should he be diving for.
- 10:24Speaker 5: That base ball?
- 10:25Speaker 4: The ball can't give by you?
- 10:26Speaker 1: Okay, too many mistakes defensively and with someone like him,
- 10:30Speaker 1: do you think he should be playing it safe more often?
- 10:34Speaker 5: Okay? Just Matt Matt Holiday rule. People say, oh, you know,
- 10:40Speaker 5: I don't know if he's going to be good in
- 10:41Speaker 5: left field or not. Matt Holliday played left field for
- 10:44Speaker 5: a long time, and Matt Holliday, the best thing that
- 10:46Speaker 5: he would do he kept the ball in front. Anything
- 10:49Speaker 5: in the gap is when he was more aggressive anything
- 10:52Speaker 5: down the line. What he was he was making sure
- 10:56Speaker 5: he was taking that deeper route where he's going to
- 10:59Speaker 5: make sure he behind the ball The reason you don't
- 11:02Speaker 5: die for that ball in tail is because there's nobody
- 11:05Speaker 5: packing you up. And he knew it as soon as
- 11:07Speaker 5: he dove instead of trying to take that route. And
- 11:10Speaker 5: it's it's just something. I mean, you got to make
- 11:12Speaker 5: that decision. And I'm not saying I'm a good outfielder.
- 11:15Speaker 5: I'm saying the fundamentals there. That was a very much
- 11:19Speaker 5: like last year. The Dodgers were like, Oh, we knew
- 11:22Speaker 5: this team was gonna not make some fundamental plays. We
- 11:25Speaker 5: just had to put the ball in play. That was
- 11:27Speaker 5: an unfundamental play by a right fielder that unfortunately for him,
- 11:32Speaker 5: he's not the best right field he's a left fielder
- 11:34Speaker 5: playing right field. He's got a good arm.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Massive difference in right fielders between the Dodgers and the
- 11:40Speaker 1: Blue Jays defensively.
- 11:42Speaker 3: But yeah, he tried to make a play. He can't
- 11:45Speaker 3: fault the guy. He shouldn't have done it. No, but
- 11:47Speaker 3: he tried to make a play for his pitcher. Okay,
- 11:50Speaker 3: funny and led to another run.
- 11:51Speaker 4: But again that's the.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Why they lost.
- 11:53Speaker 4: They lost because they can't hit.
- 11:57Speaker 3: What is it in the last twenty nine innings and
- 11:59Speaker 3: this is including win they had to win in extra innings.
- 12:02Speaker 3: They're hitting one sixty eight in twenty nine nings with
- 12:06Speaker 3: twenty nine punchouts in four runs. That's in over three
- 12:11Speaker 3: games worth the action. I mean they did win the
- 12:13Speaker 3: game because Freddy hit the home run. Well were They're
- 12:16Speaker 3: one swing away from this series being over in the
- 12:19Speaker 3: next ter inning game. I mean, I want to ask
- 12:22Speaker 3: you about it that it would have been. It was
- 12:23Speaker 3: an as it would have been an ass all time
- 12:25Speaker 3: ask kicking by the Jays. If they win the eighteen
- 12:27Speaker 3: inning games, then do do what they just did. People
- 12:29Speaker 3: believe they look like and say, man, there's a huge
- 12:32Speaker 3: upset in an.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Ass one right, it was a yami complete game and
- 12:37Speaker 1: four others in favor of Toronto, but instead it's three
- 12:39Speaker 1: to two. I do want to ask you about the
- 12:41Speaker 1: eighteen inning game. Quick shout out to the two thousand
- 12:44Speaker 1: plus watching live right now. It's cool if you subscribe
- 12:47Speaker 1: to us. Just a little ask, just a three second ask.
- 12:50Speaker 1: That's all baseball the way it should be covered. That's
- 12:52Speaker 1: the back of some of the new shirts on foul
- 12:54Speaker 1: Territory shop dot com. That's all two hundred and eighty
- 12:57Speaker 1: thousand subs, just trying to get to more trying to
- 12:59Speaker 1: get this out to more humans working hard two shows
- 13:01Speaker 1: a day. Okay, eighteen in a game. Do you think
- 13:06Speaker 1: it affects one team differently? It doesn't even matter anymore
- 13:08Speaker 1: from a couple of matter.
- 13:09Speaker 3: But what do we say at the time, It's the
- 13:11Speaker 3: World Series?
- 13:12Speaker 4: You move on, right?
- 13:13Speaker 3: Remember in twenty eighteen when the Red Sox lost the eighteen.
- 13:16Speaker 4: In a game and it was like, oh the Dodgers,
- 13:17Speaker 4: of all the momentum.
- 13:18Speaker 3: What happened? The Red Sox came back and won the
- 13:20Speaker 3: series quickly. Well, this is the same thing we saw it.
- 13:23Speaker 3: It's flipped around. The Dodgers won the eighteen in a
- 13:27Speaker 3: game on a walkoff Homer and the Blue Jays have
- 13:29Speaker 3: done exactly what the Red Sox did too.
- 13:31Speaker 4: And flipped it.
- 13:32Speaker 3: It's it's pretty amazing. And also, I don't want to
- 13:35Speaker 3: hear about they talked about tonight, the team that the
- 13:38Speaker 3: sweep in the seven game, the rest, the rest, the rest?
- 13:41Speaker 2: How about this?
- 13:42Speaker 3: The Blue Jays are better, playing better right now? Like,
- 13:44Speaker 3: what's the rest have to do with the fact they
- 13:46Speaker 3: swept and the Blue Jays had to play seven? Trust me,
- 13:48Speaker 3: if it was up to the Blue Jays, they would
- 13:50Speaker 3: have liked to have swept too and had the time off.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Yeah, not playing Bonanza the American League Championship series. Yeah yeah,
- 13:56Speaker 1: they had to hustle in that one, and they both
- 13:58Speaker 1: had multiple days off.
- 13:59Speaker 2: That's not a thing.
- 14:02Speaker 1: When the road team takes Game five in the series
- 14:05Speaker 1: is noted. At two, Jason Stark posted that team win
- 14:09Speaker 1: has won five fifteen of the last nineteen.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Doesn't turn anything to you. So you win that game five,
- 14:17Speaker 2: take a three too.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Imagine Johnson two oh man.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I was saving that for the end. But what did
- 14:23Speaker 1: Magic Johnson's social media admin say.
- 14:26Speaker 3: The series is tied to two crowds. A team that
- 14:28Speaker 3: wins tonight really takes control of the series or what
- 14:32Speaker 3: did he say?
- 14:33Speaker 2: It was something like that, I'm getting it for you
- 14:35Speaker 2: because Kevin.
- 14:36Speaker 4: Whichever team's win take control.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I'll read it for the last but the series being
- 14:41Speaker 1: two to two, Game five is very important. Whichever team
- 14:45Speaker 1: takes wins takes control of the series. And then Kevin Gossman,
- 14:50Speaker 1: who is a pitcher on the Blue Jays in this
- 14:52Speaker 1: current world series, posted something from Zoolander Kids. It was
- 14:56Speaker 1: a really funny movie from back in the day, and
- 14:59Speaker 1: it's Will Faire All going absolutely right, And.
- 15:03Speaker 4: That's not will Fair. Let's move on right right, Yeah,
- 15:05Speaker 4: it's not will Fare. It's got to dar leak my balls.
- 15:10Speaker 5: Got's gotta be This has gotta be at least twice
- 15:15Speaker 5: its size.
- 15:16Speaker 4: Yeah, you can dare leak my balls? What is one
- 15:20Speaker 4: of the all time.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Great ballpark for ants?
- 15:23Speaker 4: What is this.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Anyway?
- 15:27Speaker 4: Hansel is so hot right now, It's so hot.
- 15:30Speaker 1: I'm crying while we're just silly for a moment. I
- 15:34Speaker 1: was in tears at one point when it appeared that
- 15:36Speaker 1: late in the game the dream was over.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Louis, I don't know.
- 15:43Speaker 4: He can't.
- 15:44Speaker 2: He's gonna be rusty on.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Yeah, he might start think he's pitching aside tonight after
- 15:51Speaker 1: the game crass.
- 15:53Speaker 5: Hey, hey, I need to I need to get some
- 15:55Speaker 5: work in. I needed to get work in. Somebody stay
- 16:01Speaker 5: after And hey, Kirk, can you run down to the
- 16:03Speaker 5: bullpen and catch my catch my my flat ground?
- 16:09Speaker 2: I have one for you.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Serious, back to serious. George Springer has missed the last
- 16:13Speaker 1: couple of games. He almost pinched ran tonight, and that
- 16:17Speaker 1: sounds like.
- 16:18Speaker 3: That was that was to get bow off his feet,
- 16:20Speaker 3: just to see where he was at. I don't I
- 16:22Speaker 3: don't think they play him. I I mean they're gonna
- 16:26Speaker 3: he's gonna fight like Kell Toby in the lineup on
- 16:28Speaker 3: on Friday Night.
- 16:29Speaker 4: I just I don't know.
- 16:31Speaker 3: I like the way the defense lines up with I KF.
- 16:33Speaker 3: And I like the fact that Bobashet swinging the sally.
- 16:38Speaker 3: I mean he is swinging that.
- 16:39Speaker 4: Thing right now.
- 16:42Speaker 3: George line Drive, I said, he's gonna play if he
- 16:45Speaker 3: wants to. But I just really like with Bow as
- 16:47Speaker 3: the d H and then you have I KF as
- 16:49Speaker 3: a second baseman, that's a solid defense.
- 16:50Speaker 1: They even left I KF got hot first date of
- 16:53Speaker 1: the World Series, made it six to one.
- 16:56Speaker 4: Eight, It's still it still goes back to this George
- 16:59Speaker 4: hit lost.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Wait but question question they might not need much offense
- 17:05Speaker 1: in the next one at Yama motive, which we'll talk
- 17:06Speaker 1: about in one second, but real quick, Kratz, you're John Schneider.
- 17:10Speaker 1: George Springer goes up to you and says, I'm good
- 17:13Speaker 1: to go, which George Springer would say even if he's
- 17:16Speaker 1: at two percent. But he goes, I'm good to go.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Is he in your starting lineup for Game six? If
- 17:22Speaker 1: you think he's technically good to go but will not
- 17:27Speaker 1: be himself swinging the bat. I mean, you tell me
- 17:32Speaker 1: difference between a knee issue and a side issue.
- 17:35Speaker 2: They're calling it side.
- 17:36Speaker 3: It's oblique, right, It's got to be an oblique.
- 17:39Speaker 5: I'm sure he got some type of some type of
- 17:42Speaker 5: numbing agent to try to go and hit with it.
- 17:45Speaker 5: And I need to see him hit to make the decision.
- 17:48Speaker 5: I need to see him hit. If I like what
- 17:50Speaker 5: I see, he's in the lineup. He's in the lineup.
- 17:54Speaker 5: I don't know how else. I don't know how else
- 17:57Speaker 5: to say it. Sorry, Gosmin, you might not have the
- 18:00Speaker 5: best defense out there. George is gonna He's gonna get
- 18:05Speaker 5: some swings off. That's that's it. I don't see. I
- 18:09Speaker 5: don't see any way around it. That's not why they
- 18:11Speaker 5: lost the eighteen inning game because he was out. They
- 18:15Speaker 5: would have won that had he had an opportunity to
- 18:18Speaker 5: hit again healthy. So if he can swing it, he's in. Okay.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Let's officially spin it forward. The Blue Jays lead the
- 18:28Speaker 1: series three to two. First off, what are flights like
- 18:32Speaker 1: for each side?
- 18:34Speaker 4: Dodgers are veterans. I'll be fine. The Blue Jays are
- 18:37Speaker 4: living it up right now.
- 18:39Speaker 2: They're raging on the flight I.
- 18:40Speaker 4: Don't know they're raging, but they're they're they're living it up.
- 18:42Speaker 4: We've had are they might better? What are they both
- 18:45Speaker 4: flying tonight because some teams waiting until the next morning
- 18:48Speaker 4: to fly out.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Fly tonight.
- 18:50Speaker 3: I mean I would rather fly and get there. I
- 18:52Speaker 3: was always my thing, like, just get me there and
- 18:54Speaker 3: then if I can get my sleep, if I need
- 18:55Speaker 3: to fall sleep on the plane, and then when I
- 18:57Speaker 3: get there and sleep instead of I'm gonna stay another
- 19:00Speaker 3: night in a hotel or even at home, and then
- 19:02Speaker 3: I just always wanted to get there. But with the
- 19:05Speaker 3: flights right now, the Blue Jays are feeling it. I
- 19:08Speaker 3: mean they're not having a full rager, but they're feeling it.
- 19:10Speaker 3: And the Dodgers are like, ah, we're gonna look around.
- 19:13Speaker 3: We got all these veteran dudes. We don't have a
- 19:15Speaker 3: lot of young kids. We got all these veteran guys.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Just got Yamamoto in game six. Hopefully he continues to
- 19:20Speaker 3: pitch the way he has and then he got glass
- 19:23Speaker 3: now and hopefully a full little bullpen for game seven.
- 19:26Speaker 5: I've been on both flights. Yeah, I've been on both flights.
- 19:31Speaker 5: I've gone I've been going home down three to two
- 19:35Speaker 5: in Kansas City, and it's so it's so crazy, like
- 19:40Speaker 5: it felt like a normal flight. It felt like a
- 19:42Speaker 5: normal flight. You're down, you're down three two. We knew
- 19:46Speaker 5: what we had in the bullpen, we knew who we had,
- 19:48Speaker 5: like we had confidence in our team. I went on
- 19:52Speaker 5: a flight up three two into Houston and I remember
- 19:59Speaker 5: hearing I remember hearing guys talking about, Hey, we're gonna
- 20:01Speaker 5: invite this this person to La. Yeah, we're playing the Dodgers.
- 20:06Speaker 5: Is gonna be so sick the Yankees, the Yankees versus
- 20:10Speaker 5: the Dodgers. It's gonna be something. Oh man, this is
- 20:13Speaker 5: gonna be so great. Let's go to this place, almost
- 20:16Speaker 5: like putting the cart before the horse a little bit.
- 20:19Speaker 5: And I've gone home down three to two, and then
- 20:22Speaker 5: LC Yes. So it's like it's you feel those feelings,
- 20:25Speaker 5: but the team that figures out how to make sure
- 20:28Speaker 5: you just play this next game and not look ahead
- 20:31Speaker 5: to game seven or what the ring's gonna look like
- 20:34Speaker 5: or anything like that. Sometimes these game six is can
- 20:39Speaker 5: be laughers.
- 20:42Speaker 2: On which side.
- 20:45Speaker 5: The team that loses. No, Like like game six Game
- 20:50Speaker 5: six in twenty fourteen, we beat the Giants like ten
- 20:55Speaker 5: to two because one team's like, hey, you know what
- 20:58Speaker 5: I'm not I'm putting everybody out there, and the other
- 21:00Speaker 5: teams like, you know what, we're if we get behind
- 21:03Speaker 5: it all, we're not gonna We're not gonna chase this game.
- 21:06Speaker 5: We're gonna get set for Game seven. And in two
- 21:10Speaker 5: thy eighteen Game six, we went in and we scored
- 21:14Speaker 5: I think we scored five in the first inning against
- 21:17Speaker 5: hung jin Ryu, and the Dodgers did the same thing.
- 21:21Speaker 5: They didn't throw all their best pitchers in that game
- 21:24Speaker 5: to get ready for Game seven. So I've seen it
- 21:28Speaker 5: become lab I've been a part of ones that become laughers,
- 21:31Speaker 5: just because there's a different kind of mindset for both teams.
- 21:34Speaker 5: One team's going pedal to the medal. The other teams
- 21:37Speaker 5: like foot like hovering over the break, like uh okay.
- 21:44Speaker 1: But with all that said, Yamamoto, it's starting Game six
- 21:49Speaker 1: for the Dodgers, coming off a complete game, coming off
- 21:52Speaker 1: back to back complete games. Ken told us earlier today,
- 21:57Speaker 1: it's a super loose team, and usually you take that
- 22:00Speaker 1: with a grain of salt. Every team acts like they're
- 22:02Speaker 1: so chilling loose. But Ken's covered a lot of baseball
- 22:05Speaker 1: and he doesn't say that, Does that mean anything or
- 22:09Speaker 1: is it just you're running into the starting pitcher?
- 22:11Speaker 3: Is I guarantee the Dodgers are tighter in Game six
- 22:14Speaker 3: and the Blue Jays are because the Blue Jays, no,
- 22:16Speaker 3: no matter what happens, is on Friday, they get another game.
- 22:19Speaker 3: And it's not Yamamoto, but it's just it's the human
- 22:24Speaker 3: being factor of life. You know, in the back of
- 22:27Speaker 3: your head, I got another game, no matter what happened.
- 22:29Speaker 3: So yeah, the Dodgers can act the same and say
- 22:31Speaker 3: we're tight, and in the back of your mind you
- 22:33Speaker 3: always know. And if they fall behind early like they
- 22:35Speaker 3: have been doing that, the pressure mounts and mounts and
- 22:39Speaker 3: mounts and mounts. Because remember this was supposed to be
- 22:41Speaker 3: the greatest team of all time.
- 22:42Speaker 4: The Avengers were the Avengers.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Were put back together to kill Thanos in the whole
- 22:47Speaker 3: Major League Baseball and ruin the sport. And then these
- 22:50Speaker 3: little Blue Jays come along and and but you know
- 22:54Speaker 3: what I'm saying, Like, if they fall behind early in
- 22:56Speaker 3: Game six, the press, you will they shoot when Fox
- 23:01Speaker 3: goes into that dug out of the Dodgers, there's gonna
- 23:03Speaker 3: be some.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Early Dodgers got to play this like their Game seven,
- 23:08Speaker 1: they got to This is why I'm curious if Yamamoto
- 23:14Speaker 1: isn't CG Yamamoto right, like, if he's normal, but they
- 23:17Speaker 1: drive up the pitch count and they get to him
- 23:18Speaker 1: in the sixth then tie the game at two.
- 23:20Speaker 5: Whatever.
- 23:21Speaker 2: What's the bullpen plan? Roki Roki t Ladae is it?
- 23:28Speaker 1: I mean, I was gonna say Otani's probably gonna pitch
- 23:32Speaker 1: in game seven.
- 23:34Speaker 5: He's yeah, But I don't.
- 23:35Speaker 2: I don't feel a little about anybody in the Dodgers' bullpen.
- 23:38Speaker 2: I don't.
- 23:39Speaker 1: I was wondering if things would have changed from that
- 23:41Speaker 1: eighteen inning affair. Kratz Garda, Henriquez, ain't it right now?
- 23:46Speaker 2: He's not ready?
- 23:48Speaker 5: No, And he was facing he did he did well
- 23:50Speaker 5: the other night he was facing the other half of
- 23:54Speaker 5: the Blue Jays bench, and Yallamoto's Yallamoto?
- 23:59Speaker 3: Is it?
- 24:00Speaker 5: They said in the game today that show he's available.
- 24:03Speaker 5: Roberts said, he's available for game six and game seven
- 24:06Speaker 5: out of bullpen. You might see, you might see three
- 24:10Speaker 5: innings of show hey tomorrow Night three might be aggressive.
- 24:15Speaker 2: But wait, wait wait, you.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Just say you're gonna say yeah, but then you lose
- 24:20Speaker 3: him as the DH right they're not gonna So you
- 24:23Speaker 3: have three innings of show show they're gonna say that
- 24:26Speaker 3: for game seven.
- 24:29Speaker 2: I'm just saying, to take out his bat.
- 24:32Speaker 5: You you have, you have a small circle of pictures
- 24:36Speaker 5: that you're gonna use. You you probably go. You probably
- 24:39Speaker 5: go Yamamodo. If he gets in any trouble, it's Rokie,
- 24:44Speaker 5: and then you say, show, hey, you got the last
- 24:46Speaker 5: two innings. Because they're behind, they're playing, they're playing from behind.
- 24:52Speaker 5: Obviously they don't want to take out his bat. But
- 24:56Speaker 5: you might see Roki for three because there's no game
- 24:59Speaker 5: seven if Rokie, If Rokie's not in there, and Yamamoto struggling,
- 25:03Speaker 5: I just don't see a world where Yamamoto struggles. He
- 25:06Speaker 5: hasn't yet. So the Blue Jays have to pull another
- 25:09Speaker 5: one out of their hat to be like, you know what,
- 25:11Speaker 5: we saw what he had, and now we're gonna and
- 25:14Speaker 5: now we got him. Even then, you saw tonight Blake
- 25:18Speaker 5: Snell was losing and he threw one hundred and seventeen pitches.
- 25:21Speaker 5: Yamamoto is gonna go one ten plus.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Won sixteen pitches, but who's counting?
- 25:29Speaker 3: But it was one sixteen I thought, So I'll tell
- 25:32Speaker 3: you what who hasn't you know, he said, Yamamota hasn't struggled.
- 25:36Speaker 3: Snell hadn't struggled before this. Joe Hey hadn't struggled before this. Glasnowheaden'
- 25:40Speaker 3: struggle before there's now they're facing a different animal, the
- 25:42Speaker 3: Blue Jays.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Yamamoto had one ant start Philly.
- 25:46Speaker 3: Yeah, but Snell hadn't glasnow Hadden, shoe Hey, Hedden. I mean,
- 25:50Speaker 3: y Almamoto's the one guy who's figured out the riddle
- 25:52Speaker 3: to the Blue Jays. He's the one guy this whole entire,
- 25:54Speaker 3: pretty much the entire postseason. Let's figured out the riddle.
- 25:58Speaker 1: This looks like the best offense in base in twenty
- 26:00Speaker 1: twenty five. It was can they adjust second time around
- 26:04Speaker 1: against Yamamoto and do what they do, which is attack early?
- 26:07Speaker 1: Yamamoto's planned last time around, I mean, unleashing that great curveball.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Fastball was pumped more later in the start, right, a
- 26:14Speaker 1: lot of splitters early. The thing with him is, okay,
- 26:19Speaker 1: give me his game plan. You're his catcher. You know
- 26:22Speaker 1: what he has. He's got a lot, and let's say
- 26:24Speaker 1: they're all working. What how do you navigate through another
- 26:27Speaker 1: CG Because you're gonna do something different.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, I'm not gonna do the same only to
- 26:33Speaker 2: play make you really.
- 26:35Speaker 5: Only they make you do something different. Hey, Jae, are
- 26:37Speaker 5: you going in with a brand new game plan?
- 26:39Speaker 3: No? Okay, how many this happened all the time, especially
- 26:44Speaker 3: when we had the nineteen games in our division. You
- 26:46Speaker 3: get back to back starts, and the pitchers always like,
- 26:48Speaker 3: we got to change something. If they had really they
- 26:51Speaker 3: really will, and I'm like, no, just do this now.
- 26:53Speaker 3: In the first couple innings, We'll make a decision if
- 26:56Speaker 3: they have changed their game plan. But no, you go
- 27:00Speaker 3: into the game scene, just do what you did last time.
- 27:02Speaker 3: It's probably gonna work again. No, they might not have
- 27:05Speaker 3: the same control. And then they freak out. They're like, oh,
- 27:07Speaker 3: they're saying something because you know, no, you're just not
- 27:09Speaker 3: as good as you were last time. But then there's
- 27:12Speaker 3: guys that can go out and dominate guys over and
- 27:14Speaker 3: over again.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Right, multiple pitches, even if he doesn't have one, he's got.
- 27:21Speaker 4: Slider, cutter, curveball, two seem, four seam, sweeper, deeperopy, slutter cutter,
- 27:28Speaker 4: all of it.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Yep, and he's that's the modern picture. He's got it all.
- 27:34Speaker 5: Is there any chance if you're the Blue Jays. You
- 27:38Speaker 5: don't throw Gosman in game six? No, I'm just asking.
- 27:44Speaker 5: I'm asking because you go for the Gen one game,
- 27:49Speaker 5: which game is your best chance of winning? You have
- 27:53Speaker 5: your best pitcher out there in that game. Just just
- 27:57Speaker 5: a question. If you don't think of it as a
- 27:59Speaker 5: Jays and you're just like no, never, then I don't
- 28:02Speaker 5: think you're doing your due diligence. I don't think they
- 28:04Speaker 5: do it. But you have to ask the question.
- 28:08Speaker 1: So here's what's crazy. It's it's actually a good question.
- 28:10Speaker 1: In most cases, it's not. But Kevin Gossman is no
- 28:15Speaker 1: spring chicken and he's a very good pitcher, but he's
- 28:19Speaker 1: even better when he gets extra rest. You can't do that, though,
- 28:23Speaker 1: because the mental game in this series, like, oh, we're
- 28:28Speaker 1: not going to pitch him. That's why it's a fun topic.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Don't freak out right now, everyone, don't freak out. But
- 28:34Speaker 1: Kevin Gossman often got extra rest this year and pitched
- 28:37Speaker 1: much better on extra rest, including his last what six
- 28:41Speaker 1: starts of the year. Velo is up in September because
- 28:44Speaker 1: they took care of him.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Blah blah blah.
- 28:46Speaker 1: But it is a thing, right. I talked to Max
- 28:50Speaker 1: Scherzer about this. Actually, in the past, he's still on.
- 28:54Speaker 3: An extra day's rest.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Where are we at.
- 28:58Speaker 3: He through Saturday and he's pitching Friday. That's that's six days.
- 29:02Speaker 2: So he's got he's on five.
- 29:04Speaker 4: It's an extra day, so.
- 29:05Speaker 5: That's six days.
- 29:07Speaker 4: So you're fine, it's an extra day.
- 29:10Speaker 1: You don't need a day on top of that. Crats
- 29:11Speaker 1: Does that change your mind?
- 29:14Speaker 5: I mean no, I don't. I don't care. I'm just
- 29:16Speaker 5: I'm asking. I'm asking the question. To be kind of
- 29:20Speaker 5: a naysayer, you have to ask. Don't just go status quo.
- 29:24Speaker 5: Because let's say he throws a jam. Let's say he
- 29:26Speaker 5: throws gives up one run nine innings and they lose
- 29:31Speaker 5: one nothing. Are you sitting there going crap? We could
- 29:36Speaker 5: have used that in game seven.
- 29:42Speaker 2: Beabs and sureser game seven.
- 29:46Speaker 3: Yeah, and the Savage might be available for an inning
- 29:49Speaker 3: or two. I mean, you got everybody Trey Savage.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:55Speaker 5: If Trey Savage comes out in game seven and even
- 29:58Speaker 5: gets three outs, is he the MVP? Oh?
- 30:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean we got to see what else happens here,
- 30:07Speaker 1: but it's still flat right now?
- 30:09Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 30:12Speaker 1: Okay, anyway, that was fun. We are going to continue
- 30:18Speaker 1: this discussion tomorrow. We will talk Thursday, it's an off day,
- 30:23Speaker 1: and then we've got a postgame show on Friday. But
- 30:25Speaker 1: Thursday FT Live one o'clock Eastern time.
- 30:29Speaker 4: I have some friends that are uh from Toronto.
- 30:34Speaker 3: I saw him today and cratch, you'll love this because
- 30:37Speaker 3: I think you might have played with the guy. And
- 30:39Speaker 3: so I was mad at him because I was like, hey,
- 30:41Speaker 3: get us a jet and I'll get us tickets to
- 30:42Speaker 3: the World Series. And they said something they the guy,
- 30:46Speaker 3: this husband and wife. The guy was like, oh, I
- 30:48Speaker 3: don't want to go something. I don't yeah, excuse whatever.
- 30:51Speaker 3: And I saw another buddy of mine is from Toronto
- 30:52Speaker 3: and he was and they were, you know, oh you said,
- 30:55Speaker 3: you know, the Dodgers are gonna winlah blah blah, you
- 30:58Speaker 3: know what do you feel like now? And I'm like, well,
- 30:59Speaker 3: I guess stick with it because I'm you know. But anyways,
- 31:03Speaker 3: so they were giving me shit, right, and then the lady,
- 31:07Speaker 3: the wife of the guy from one of the guys
- 31:09Speaker 3: from Toronto, had a Blue Jays jersey on at the
- 31:11Speaker 3: golf course today, like blue Jays like legit white home white.
- 31:16Speaker 3: And I was like, oh, who's your jersey of and
- 31:19Speaker 3: she goes, she turns around and it was Lowry, Brett Lowry,
- 31:25Speaker 3: and she goes, do you don't even know that? She goes,
- 31:27Speaker 3: I don't even know who was I bought this like
- 31:28Speaker 3: fifteen years ago, and I don't even know why. No,
- 31:33Speaker 3: she had no she literally had no idea. You had
- 31:35Speaker 3: no idea. Didn't Did you play with him? Because he
- 31:37Speaker 3: was kind of crazy person.
- 31:39Speaker 4: I played.
- 31:39Speaker 3: I know, I played against him. He was a little
- 31:41Speaker 3: bit nuts, right, he had he was.
- 31:46Speaker 5: Super talented, uber talented, a little bit nuts. She definitely
- 31:50Speaker 5: got that jersey from him, from him, from him.
- 31:56Speaker 2: No, they liked him out there for they loved him.
- 31:58Speaker 5: For a while.
- 31:59Speaker 3: From man, would you get it from him?
- 32:04Speaker 5: She knew what she was doing. You don't get a
- 32:06Speaker 5: Brett Lowry jersey if you're not a little crazy yourself.
- 32:11Speaker 4: Wait, what she's married.
- 32:12Speaker 3: By the way she was with her husband, I don't
- 32:16Speaker 3: I don't hope you're not going where.
- 32:18Speaker 4: I thought you just come.
- 32:18Speaker 3: But anyway, he was gone, him and Aaron Hill and
- 32:25Speaker 3: that whole crew. But she no, She's like, I went
- 32:27Speaker 3: to a game and I bought it. It seemed the
- 32:28Speaker 3: most popular guy, So I bought his.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Jersey for a year or two he might have been
