- 0:26Well, hello everyone, and welcome once again to
- 0:30the ever-popular Inspirations for Your Life show.
- 0:33Welcome, everyone.
- 0:33It's great to be with you.
- 0:35I'm here at the beautiful Montclair State University.
- 0:38I was having a little bit of a
- 0:39challenge today trying to find a spot to
- 0:41stream from because when I was at the
- 0:43airport the other day and I thought my
- 0:45phone, my laptop, I should say, was getting
- 0:47charged, it actually wasn't getting charged.
- 0:50Actually, it started getting charged and then it
- 0:51stopped, and then I saw that I have
- 0:52like 22 minutes left.
- 0:54I said, that's not going to be enough
- 0:55for the show.
- 0:57All right, guys.
- 0:58So I'm right here at the beautiful Montclair
- 1:00State University outside one of the theaters here
- 1:02in the courtyard.
- 1:03You can kind of see here.
- 1:05Beautiful.

- 1:22five times, 10, 100, or maybe even more,
- 1:24I'd like to say thank you and I'd
- 1:26like to say welcome, but I'd also like
- 1:28to say something else to you.
- 1:29I'd like to say the words welcome back.
- 1:31You guys are always very welcome here and

- 2:32this show.
- 2:33All right, let's get into the show today.
- 2:36By the way, today is Thursday, September 10th,
- 2:40and it is just a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful,
- 2:43beautiful day.
- 2:45So again, I do want to take the
- 2:47opportunity to say welcome to everyone here, both
- 2:50our new subscribers and our existing subscribers.
- 2:55Welcome to another amazing episode of the ever
- 2:57popular Inspirations for Your Life show.
- 2:59I am Jon Seymourly.
- 3:01I'm a serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video
- 3:04producer, podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, passionate lifelong
- 3:07learner and graduate student at Montclair State University.
- 3:10And I'm so grateful now to be a
- 3:12published author.
- 3:13Yes, so grateful to be with you.
- 3:14Welcome, everyone.
- 3:15Great to have you here.
- 3:16Our master topic for this week is your
- 3:18next level will demand a different kind of
- 3:21you basically.
- 3:22So today I'm talking about letting your results
- 3:25speak before you actually do.
- 3:28Plans are important.
- 3:28Don't get me wrong.
- 3:29OK, but the most important thing is what
- 3:32ultimately matters is what you decide to execute,
- 3:35what you finish and deliver.
- 3:36So let's get into this together.
- 3:38Right.
- 3:38Number one, your results introduce you before your
- 3:42words ever do.
- 3:43So don't worry about the fancy words.
- 3:44You can tell people you're disciplined, reliable or
- 3:47committed, but eventually your work confirms those words
- 3:51either yes or no.
- 3:53So building results is what it's about.
- 3:56And when you build results, people are able
- 3:59to trust you and they know you're somebody
- 4:01that's accountable.
- 4:03They know there's somebody they want to learn
- 4:04from.
- 4:05They know there's someone they want to be
- 4:06with.
- 4:06OK, so number two, stop announcing every move
- 4:09before you make it.
- 4:11You know, when you're on a sports team,
- 4:13do you really want to say to people,
- 4:15hey, you know, I'm going to throw the
- 4:16ball to such and such?
- 4:17No, you don't really want to do that.
- 4:19You want to basically make sure that the
- 4:21plays stay in between the team.
- 4:23Right.
- 4:23You don't want to let the other team
- 4:24know.
- 4:25So stop announcing every move before you make
- 4:27it.
- 4:27Not every idea needs an announcement.
- 4:30Sometimes your best move is to focus on
- 4:33the work and talk about it after you've
- 4:35made progress.
- 4:36Number three, plans don't create credibility.
- 4:39Execution does.
- 4:41Planning gives you direction.
- 4:42Execution shows what you can actually do.
- 4:45Turn the idea into something real.
- 4:48Yeah, there's a real concept for you.
- 4:49Number four, let your action confirm those action
- 4:55and actions, what you believe about yourself.
- 4:57You know, my brand BelieveMeAchieved.com.
- 4:59If you believe you're disciplined, practice discipline.
- 5:03If you believe you're reliable, well, follow through.
- 5:06Give yourself evidence of that.
- 5:08Don't just say, hey, I'm reliable.
- 5:10You know, really hold yourself accountable.
- 5:13You know, set those goals and again, discipline
- 5:17yourself because motivation, we said, is going to
- 5:19wane.
- 5:19But discipline, well, it stays with you through
- 5:22the thick and the thin.
- 5:23Number five, do more than you advertise.
- 5:27Don't exaggerate what you're going to accomplish.
- 5:29Make responsible commitments and let your execution exceed
- 5:33expectations.
- 5:34OK, number six, stop seeking recognition for the
- 5:38work you haven't finished.
- 5:39So many people I know want to get
- 5:40praise, pat on the back for things they
- 5:43haven't even started yet.
- 5:44But you shouldn't even want to get the
- 5:46praise.
- 5:46OK, if you get it, great.
- 5:48But don't make your whole life about the
- 5:49praise.
- 5:50So, you know, things you have to understand.
- 5:52Don't confuse starting with completing.
- 5:54Finishing creates the evidence that you really want
- 5:57and you want to show.
- 5:59So number seven, build quietly when talking adds
- 6:03nothing.
- 6:04Communication matters, guys.
- 6:05But when talking isn't moving anything forward, return
- 6:09your attention to the building and be consistent
- 6:12about the building.
- 6:13Don't just do the building because you're trying
- 6:15to put on a show.
- 6:16You want to achieve greatness to become a
- 6:18better version of yourself and help others become
- 6:20better versions of themselves.
- 6:22Number eight, guys, consistency makes people pay attention.
- 6:26One good result may get noticed.
- 6:28Repeated results build credibility because people realize that's
- 6:31how you operate your SOP, your standard operating
- 6:33procedure procedure.
- 6:34I've been on the air now, guys.
- 6:36It'll be over five years.
- 6:38December 31st will be six years that we're
- 6:39starting for both this show, the tech show
- 6:42and some of my other shows.
- 6:43Number nine, finish before you celebrate.
- 6:46Everybody wants to pop open the bubbly or,
- 6:49you know, have the party, but haven't really
- 6:51done the work to even earn or enjoy
- 6:53the party.
- 6:53So be proud of the progress and you
- 6:57have.
- 6:58But don't let it create an early victory
- 7:00and convince you the work is complete.
- 7:02There's nothing wrong with a minor celebration, but
- 7:05don't get so into the party that you're
- 7:08going to stop working on your goals.
- 7:10Get across the finish line.
- 7:11I know so many people, um, you know,
- 7:14they're in a race and, you know, they
- 7:16think they're going to win and that's great.
- 7:19But then at the end they like get
- 7:22too conceited.
- 7:22And guess what happens?
- 7:24They miss the finish line by literally just
- 7:28inches because they got too overconfident.
- 7:31Number 10, stop confusing attention with achievement.
- 7:34So many great achievers do this likes compliments
- 7:38and recognition can feel very rewarding, right?
- 7:41But ask yourself what you really are actually
- 7:44accomplishing, not what you're trying to impress people
- 7:47to do.
- 7:48So I think that's an important thing.
- 7:49Number 11, make your calendar prove what you
- 7:52say matters.
- 7:54And if something is important, give it time.
- 7:57Your schedule often reveals your real priorities better
- 8:02than your words ever will.
- 8:03So I think that's another important thing that
- 8:05a lot of us hear.
- 8:06You know, they think it's about words.
- 8:07They think it's about putting on a show,
- 8:09but it's not.
- 8:10Number 12, promise less than you are going
- 8:14to deliver and deliver more.
- 8:16So promise less, deliver more.
- 8:17So basically under-promise and over-deliver.
- 8:20Never over-promise and under-deliver.
- 8:22That would be bad.
- 8:23So promise less and deliver more.
- 8:25Make commitments you can honor every day.
- 8:28Then put your energy into delivering something even
- 8:30better than you expected and others expected.
- 8:34All right.
- 8:34Number 13, follow through when the excitement disappears.
- 8:38Because I've said this before, motivation is going
- 8:41to come and it's going to go.
- 8:44And you may have a good day, you
- 8:45may have a bad day, but you have
- 8:46to remember that you have to keep staying
- 8:48consistent to achieve your goals.
- 8:50So starting can be exciting.
- 8:52The real test comes when the novelty fades
- 8:54and the discipline has to carry you forward.
- 8:57Right.
- 8:57Have you ever gotten that toy and you
- 8:59know, you play with the toy and then
- 9:00you put the toy away.
- 9:01You don't use it anymore, right?
- 9:03Because you're not motivated to play with it
- 9:04anymore.
- 9:04Well, in life, we don't do that.
- 9:07When we want to achieve something, it's like,
- 9:09well, today I don't feel like doing that.
- 9:10So I just stop.
- 9:11Don't do that.
- 9:12Number 14, become known for finishing what you
- 9:15start.
- 9:16Build a reputation for completion.
- 9:18When you commit to something, let people learn
- 9:21that your commitment means something.
- 9:23By the way, I want to let you
- 9:24know of a couple of author talks coming
- 9:26up.
- 9:26There's one coming up in Wayne.
- 9:28There's also one coming up, I believe, before
- 9:30that in Ridgewood.
- 9:31You can find more of those details at
- 9:33jasonacademy.com.
- 9:34You can check that out.
- 9:36Also, I'm going to be in southwest Florida
- 9:37for a few talks and they'll be on
- 9:39our site.
- 9:39And next year we're going to be touring
- 9:41some more places, schools, libraries and some other
- 9:45private locations that you definitely can sign up
- 9:49to attend.
- 9:49The events are free.
- 9:51There is an author talk, which is about
- 9:5430 minutes.
- 9:55There's a 50 minute Q&A and then
- 9:56there's an author signing.
- 9:57We'll be happy to personalize the book that
- 9:59you get from me.
- 10:00Number 14, become known for finishing what you
- 10:03start.
- 10:03Build a reputation for completion.
- 10:05When you commit to something, let people learn
- 10:08that your commitment means something.
- 10:10And I think when you actually do this,
- 10:12you don't have this ego on top of
- 10:14you.
- 10:15People not only take you seriously, but they
- 10:18really want to be part of what you're
- 10:20doing.
- 10:21So that's important, guys.
- 10:24That's, it's really, really important to, to understand
- 10:26these things.
- 10:27So number 15 is stop needing an audience
- 10:29to give your effort meeting.
- 10:30You don't need an audience guys.
- 10:31Some of your most important work happens when
- 10:34nobody is watching.
- 10:35I wrote my book when nobody was watching,
- 10:37right?
- 10:37The stuff you do when nobody's watching actually
- 10:39funnels into the stuff that people do eventually
- 10:42see.
- 10:42The preparation and the practice, they matter.
- 10:44So don't think just because nobody's giving you
- 10:47an applause, a fanfare, a pat on the
- 10:49back or standing ovation, that it doesn't mean
- 10:51anything.
- 10:52Number 16 guys, private discipline eventually creates visible
- 10:56results.
- 10:57I've said it.
- 10:58I'll say it again.
- 10:59People may see the final achievement without seeing
- 11:01the work behind it.
- 11:03Keep building when nobody is looking.
- 11:06Number 17, build evidence instead of explanations, instead
- 11:10of constantly explaining why you're capable, create the
- 11:13proof, finish something, okay.
- 11:16Improve something, learn something.
- 11:18These are important things, guys.
- 11:20Number 18, let people underestimate what you're building.
- 11:25That's okay.
- 11:26Let them think it's something small.
- 11:27You don't have to correct everyone who doubts
- 11:30you.
- 11:31Let them have their opinion while you keep
- 11:34moving forward.
- 11:35You're not building it to impress them.
- 11:38You're building it for you.
- 11:40Number 19, stop defending what your results can
- 11:44eventually prove.
- 11:45Your results are powerful.
- 11:47So let your results do something.
- 11:48Not every doubt deserves an argument.
- 11:51Sometimes your time is better spent improving the
- 11:54work.
- 11:55So what I want to say there is
- 11:57put the time in, okay, but don't put
- 12:01it in with the goal of trying to
- 12:02impress somebody.
- 12:03Put it in so that you can actually
- 12:05accomplish and finish something, and then you can
- 12:07celebrate that, right?
- 12:09So again, these are very, very important things.
- 12:11Number 20 guys, put your energy into execution
- 12:15instead of announcement.
- 12:17I know so many people, they get up
- 12:19on a big, you know, stage or, uh,
- 12:22let's say pedestal and they look at me,
- 12:23look at me, look at me.
- 12:25Look at me.
- 12:26What, like, what about you?
- 12:29Those being humble will earn more respect and
- 12:33actually we'll get more done.
- 12:36So number 20 is put your energy into
- 12:38execution instead of the announcement you're making.
- 12:40Energy is limited guys.
- 12:41Don't spend so much time talking about the
- 12:43work that you have less energy left to
- 12:46actually do the work, right?
- 12:48Well, look at me, look what I'm going
- 12:49to do.
- 12:49Look at what I'm planning.
- 12:50That's nice.
- 12:51Why don't you actually do it?
- 12:52All right.
- 12:54These are, these are really, really, uh, important
- 12:56things.
- 12:57Number 21, real progress becomes difficult to ignore.
- 13:00Recognition may not come immediately.
- 13:02Keep improving consistent results.
- 13:05Eventually become difficult to overlook.
- 13:07Number 22, become more interested in achieving than
- 13:12appearing successful.
- 13:15That might be a hard one for a
- 13:16lot of people to, to wrestle with looking
- 13:18productive and being productive.
- 13:20Aren't the same thing.
- 13:21Focus on building something valuable instead of creating
- 13:24an appearance.
- 13:26We see appearances every day, right?
- 13:28Appearances are done with marketing.
- 13:30The thing about appearances is that they may
- 13:32catch us once, but when we get to
- 13:35the heart of it, let's think of a
- 13:36piece of candy, for example, right?
- 13:38The candy looks great on the outside.
- 13:39So you bite into like, Oh, that's all
- 13:42that's inside.
- 13:43Right?
- 13:44So we want to create something meaningful, useful,
- 13:48and well executed.
- 13:49When the quality is strong enough, the work
- 13:52begins to, you guessed it guys speak for
- 13:55itself, but why is it people take shortcuts?
- 13:58Why do people, you know, not do the
- 14:02full thing?
- 14:02Why do they leave off the corners?
- 14:05Well, people think that you can just get
- 14:08there by skipping a few steps.
- 14:11And when you're starting, you think you can,
- 14:14but those of us that have been doing
- 14:15this for a long time, know that you
- 14:17can't skip steps, see it's the steps before
- 14:20they prepare you for the next step, right?
- 14:21When you're on a ladder, if you skip
- 14:23rungs, I hope not.
- 14:25Um, if you skip one, don't skip more
- 14:26than one.
- 14:27Right.
- 14:27But when you skip rungs, then you're not
- 14:29well positioned for the next rung.
- 14:32Number 24, stop performing productivity and start producing
- 14:37results.
- 14:38A pack schedule doesn't automatically mean you're accomplishing
- 14:42anything.
- 14:43Ask what actually moved forward today?
- 14:46What moved your needle?
- 14:47I know back around the COVID time, everyone
- 14:50used to think, you know, let's get an
- 14:51automated calendar and let's get our calendar fill.
- 14:53And by doing that, we're going to appear
- 14:55successful.
- 14:56So that's nice.
- 14:57Right.
- 14:58But appearing is not success.
- 15:01I think a lot of people miss that
- 15:02a pack schedule doesn't automatically mean you're accomplishing
- 15:05anything.
- 15:06Again, ask what moved the needle forward.
- 15:09And if you want to do the things
- 15:11that are going to make the needle move
- 15:12forward, it's not about getting everyone else.
- 15:17You know, give you a pad on the
- 15:18back number 25 guys measure outcomes, not how
- 15:23busy you looked or you're going to look,
- 15:25what did you complete?
- 15:29Improve, solve, learn, create, explore, advance of all
- 15:35being exhausted isn't automatically evidence of progress.
- 15:40You know, we think about this from the
- 15:42gym.
- 15:42When you go to the gym, you shouldn't
- 15:44be exhausted.
- 15:44You should be in a little bit discomfort,
- 15:46but you shouldn't want to fall over after
- 15:47the gym.
- 15:48Right.
- 15:49There's a difference to working out.
- 15:51And I'm going to use the term here,
- 15:52literally burning out in the gym where you
- 15:55burn your body out, where you want to
- 15:56collapse a different burnout than I usually talk
- 15:58about.
- 15:58But that's a burnout that I think we
- 15:59all need to be careful about because that
- 16:02burnout is the one that we're going to
- 16:04pay for, not just today or tomorrow, but
- 16:07for days, weeks, and maybe the month to
- 16:09come, because we've overworked our body.
- 16:12People say, you know, John, you got to
- 16:14work harder.
- 16:15Okay.
- 16:15And I want to tell you, don't work
- 16:17harder, work smarter.
- 16:19Well, how does that differ?
- 16:22So working harder means doing things till you're
- 16:25basically ready to collapse for a lot of
- 16:27people.
- 16:28But that's not working smarter.
- 16:30That's actually getting yourself frustrated, getting yourself, like
- 16:35wanting to give up because you're running out
- 16:37of energy and you're not even able to
- 16:40see something sustainable.
- 16:42Right.
- 16:42If you ran, let's say a race.
- 16:46Okay.
- 16:46And whether you're a runner or not, if
- 16:48you start running fast and at the end
- 16:51of the race, you know, um, you're running,
- 16:55but you're probably not running as fast, right,
- 16:57or in the middle, you're kind of slowing
- 16:58down.
- 16:58If you keep running that same speed, the
- 17:00whole race, what's going to happen?
- 17:02You're going to burn out and you're not
- 17:04going to be able to be sustainable.
- 17:05So you have to throttle, um, energy back
- 17:08and forth.
- 17:09This goes with a lot of things in
- 17:10life.
- 17:10So we have to balance our life.
- 17:11We have to balance what we're doing.
- 17:14And we can take that little bit of
- 17:16a, you know, a little bit of a
- 17:18lull, but we have to keep a consistency.
- 17:20That's the most important thing when you work
- 17:23out.
- 17:23Okay.
- 17:24And, um, you know, you do your reps,
- 17:27do you keep doing the same way?
- 17:28No, you might take a little bit of
- 17:30a, of a lower workout next.
- 17:32So your body has a chance to recover,
- 17:34not slowly stopping the heart, but recovering it
- 17:38so that it's not at that highest pace,
- 17:40right.
- 17:40It might've dropped a little bit, but not
- 17:42that much.
- 17:44And that little bit is actually going to
- 17:46get you to want to bring the heartbeat
- 17:48back up again, because you've given yourself a
- 17:50chance.
- 17:51How many people do you know that do,
- 17:52um, different types of exercise, right?
- 17:55Uh, it could be a different workouts and
- 17:57a lot of them, they take their finger
- 17:59and they, they put it on their neck
- 18:00and they walk around and they look at
- 18:02their watch and they check their pulse to
- 18:04see what their heart rate is, right?
- 18:06So these are important things, not just for
- 18:08today, but as we evolve in tomorrow and
- 18:11the days beyond number 26, guys keep working
- 18:14after nobody's paying attention, who cares if nobody's
- 18:17paying attention, are you living your life for
- 18:20somebody else?
- 18:21I hope not.
- 18:22Because if you're doing that, you're going to
- 18:23be so disappointed.
- 18:25You're going to be burnt out.
- 18:26You're going to be so frustrated because you're
- 18:29just trying to be a people pleaser and
- 18:30you're not enjoying the life for you.
- 18:32People may be excited when you begin.
- 18:35And then guess what?
- 18:37Move on, keep going.
- 18:38Your commitment can't depend on their attention.
- 18:42People can be fickle.
- 18:44Sometimes let's be honest about that.
- 18:46And that's not being mean.
- 18:47That's not being nasty.
- 18:48That's just people.
- 18:50So you're here to get your goal accomplished,
- 18:52regardless of what other people think, what other
- 18:54people say, you need to get that goal
- 18:57accomplished.
- 18:58I mean it guys.
- 19:00That's that's, that's the truth.
- 19:01Number 27 becomes somebody whose word predicts follow
- 19:06through.
- 19:07If you're known as an accountable person, one
- 19:11that gets the job done, you're going to
- 19:13have a high level of reputation and ethics.
- 19:17If you're going to be like, Oh, you
- 19:17know what?
- 19:18I want to work with him.
- 19:19I want to work with her.
- 19:20I know what they're doing and I want
- 19:22to be part of his project or her
- 19:23project.
- 19:24I want to do that.
- 19:25But so many people, you know, we even
- 19:27get people here and you know, they tune
- 19:28the show for a few minutes and they
- 19:29go away.
- 19:30They think they're going to get the magic
- 19:31juice in three or four minutes.
- 19:34You're not.
- 19:35A lot of people, whether they don't have
- 19:38the time to watch the whole show, I
- 19:40encourage them to come back and watch it
- 19:41later because just getting started is not enough
- 19:45to succeed.
- 19:47Okay.
- 19:47And if you think it is, you're fooling
- 19:48yourself.
- 19:49So again, number 27 becomes somebody whose word
- 19:52predicts follow through every time.
- 19:54When you say you're going to do something,
- 19:56let your history give people the confidence, the
- 19:58action will follow.
- 19:59Right.
- 20:00You don't say, Hey, I'm somebody who's reliable.
- 20:02Let people see that on their own.
- 20:04Number 28 results, create confidence that talking never
- 20:08will finishing.
- 20:10Something gives you evidence.
- 20:12You know, you can do it because you've
- 20:14done it before.
- 20:15You know, if you have a challenge in
- 20:17your life, you're not going to get done.
- 20:18Look at what you've accomplished before and then
- 20:20say, look, I've done all that in the
- 20:22past.
- 20:23That's confidence built on proof.
- 20:25And then, you know what happens?
- 20:26You're able to move forward with that proof.
- 20:28You see, when we do something and we
- 20:31Excel at it, we get a natural boost
- 20:34of the dope mean in our brain.
- 20:37And yes, we'll get a little bit of
- 20:39boost of motivation.
- 20:40Now that might last a little bit, might
- 20:41go away, but it's our discipline that keeps
- 20:44us going.
- 20:44Not the motivation.
- 20:46If you're just being fueled by motivation, your
- 20:49engine's going to run out and you're probably
- 20:52going to need a tow truck more times
- 20:53than none.
- 20:55So, um, as I said, number 29, you
- 20:58don't need to convince everyone when you have
- 20:59proof, okay?
- 21:04Not everybody will understand your goals or believe
- 21:07in your vision or your direction.
- 21:08There's nothing wrong with that.
- 21:10Okay.
- 21:10They don't have to keep going.
- 21:13Anyway, you're not building for other people.
- 21:14You're building for you.
- 21:16You're here to create a better version of
- 21:18yourself and those that want to join along
- 21:20and become a better version of themselves.
- 21:21Great.
- 21:23But I'm not here to motivate everybody.
- 21:25If they don't want to change their life,
- 21:27I'm not here to convince you to change.
- 21:29I'm here to give you the option.
- 21:31All right.
- 21:32Number 30, let your results speak before you
- 21:35do.
- 21:35So many people want to show the results,
- 21:38um, in like, let's say a presentation, but
- 21:42the results haven't happened yet.
- 21:44So when the results are there, just show
- 21:45them.
- 21:46You don't have to glorify them.
- 21:47Just let them speak for themselves.
- 21:49So this is where everything comes together before
- 21:52telling everybody how disciplined you are, your, uh,
- 21:56expertise, your years of experience, your practice, your
- 21:59discipline, your ethics, right?
- 22:02That you're a go getter.
- 22:03You're accountable before telling everybody how committed you
- 22:07actually are.
- 22:09Why don't you actually follow through for once
- 22:11before announcing the project you're going to build,
- 22:15start building it.
- 22:17Okay.
- 22:18Uh, I'll give you a quick story on
- 22:19this.
- 22:19So many of you know that I'm in
- 22:21president of our local chamber of commerce in
- 22:23town.
- 22:24And I had told a few of my
- 22:25team members, I'm going to build something.
- 22:26That's it.
- 22:27But I didn't share with anybody else.
- 22:28I told somebody there was a new website
- 22:29coming and all this, but I didn't make
- 22:31a big deal about what was going to
- 22:32be on it until it was released.
- 22:36Okay.
- 22:36So before announcing the project, you're going to
- 22:38build, start building it.
- 22:39Don't make excuses.
- 22:40Don't make a thing that your ego, your
- 22:42ego is nothing.
- 22:43And your ego is not going to get
- 22:44you successful.
- 22:45Your ego is just going to take you
- 22:46down 10 pegs.
- 22:47Okay.
- 22:47And it's going to lose your credibility.
- 22:49It's going to lose your respect.
- 22:50So before telling everybody you're going to change,
- 22:52why don't you start changing?
- 22:54Don't announce it.
- 22:55Just do it.
- 22:57Now, this doesn't mean you should never talk
- 22:59about your goals.
- 23:00I don't want you to think that sometimes
- 23:02you need accountability.
- 23:03Sometimes you need collaboration, um, advice, support, or
- 23:06communication with people involved with what you're doing.
- 23:09That's fine.
- 23:10But you don't make an announcement guys of,
- 23:12Hey, I'm going to be this.
- 23:14No, that's different from constantly announcing what you're
- 23:17going to accomplish.
- 23:18If you've done something great.
- 23:19I wrote a book.
- 23:20I'm grateful to have written a book and
- 23:22I'm humble about it because he talking about
- 23:25it makes you feel like you've already made
- 23:28progress.
- 23:28So that's the difference from constantly announcing what
- 23:31you're going to do.
- 23:33To actually doing something so we can get
- 23:35stuck in that conundrum that maybe we think
- 23:38we're doing progress because we're talking about it,
- 23:39but we really didn't take any viable steps.
- 23:41So think about something in your own life
- 23:42right now.
- 23:43You've been talking about more than you're working
- 23:45on, right?
- 23:46Maybe it's a project.
- 23:47Maybe it's a business idea.
- 23:48Maybe it's a learning skill.
- 23:49Maybe it's a, a new, uh, language you
- 23:53want to learn.
- 23:53Maybe it's going back to school.
- 23:54Like I am earning another degree.
- 23:56Maybe it's making a career move.
- 23:58Maybe it's changing something about yourself.
- 24:01What happens if you take some of the
- 24:04energy you've been putting into talking about it
- 24:06and move the energy into execution, open the
- 24:10document, we said this before, make the call,
- 24:13study the material, complete the assignment, do the
- 24:16work, build the first version.
- 24:18Done is better than perfect.
- 24:20You can always change it, practice the skill,
- 24:23finish what you already started.
- 24:26Okay.
- 24:26Then do something that moves it forward, right?
- 24:30That's how evidence is created.
- 24:32One completed action becomes another.
- 24:34One result becomes another.
- 24:36Eventually you don't have to keep telling yourself
- 24:38that you're someone who follows through.
- 24:40You know, you are because you create evidence
- 24:42yourself and that's exactly how today's topic connects
- 24:47with our master topic this week.
- 24:48Your next level will demand a different, you
- 24:50a different kind of you.
- 24:52Maybe the difference is you don't announce every
- 24:55move you're going to make.
- 24:56Maybe the difference is you can build quietly
- 24:58without needing constant recognition.
- 25:00Maybe the difference is you keep going when
- 25:02nobody is watching.
- 25:03Maybe the difference is you promise less and
- 25:05you deliver more.
- 25:07Maybe the difference is, well, it's not about
- 25:12looking productive because you're actually being productive and
- 25:16creating results.
- 25:17Your next level may require you to become
- 25:19somebody whose actions constantly support your words.
- 25:21So it may require you to change.
- 25:23And it may be uncomfortable guys.
- 25:24Someone you, who prepares someone who executes someone
- 25:27who follows through someone who finishes someone whose
- 25:29words carry weight because there's a history of
- 25:32action behind it.
- 25:33When you begin operating this way, something changes.
- 25:38It could be a subtle shift at once.
- 25:40You protect your focus.
- 25:42You give yourself room to make mistakes.
- 25:44You adjust your approach.
- 25:46You learn and improve without feeling that you
- 25:49have to explain every step to everybody around
- 25:51you.
- 25:52You also stop depending on applause for motivation.
- 25:56If nobody notices what you accomplished today, you
- 25:59can still come back tomorrow.
- 26:01If nobody congratulates you, you can still improve.
- 26:05If somebody doubts you, you can still execute.
- 26:08That's a difference in the kind of confidence
- 26:11because it doesn't depend entirely on what somebody
- 26:14else thinks about you and you can keep
- 26:15moving forward.
- 26:16It comes from knowing that inner confidence of
- 26:19what you've done.
- 26:20Results accumulate, right?
- 26:22We all know with putting money in the
- 26:24bank, interest, it's cumulative, learns a lot more
- 26:28compound interest.
- 26:30One finished task may seem small, but one
- 26:33finished task followed up by another creates more
- 26:36momentum.
- 26:37Momentum creates evidence.
- 26:39Evidence changes how you see yourself.
- 26:41Eventually it changes how other people will see
- 26:44you and plans create direction.
- 26:46Worlds create expectation.
- 26:49Execution creates evidence.
- 26:51Evidence creates credibility.
- 26:52So the next time you're about to tell
- 26:55everybody what you're going to do, ask yourself
- 26:59this one simple question.
- 27:01Would this energy be better spent actually doing
- 27:03it?
- 27:03Or sometimes the answer will be no because
- 27:06communication is necessary.
- 27:07But when the answer is yes, get back
- 27:10to work immediately.
- 27:11Build quietly when necessary.
- 27:13Stay consistent, finish what you start, measure outcomes
- 27:17instead of appearances.
- 27:18Guys, keep going after the excitement.
- 27:20Keep going after the attention disappears.
- 27:22You don't need to convince everyone of who
- 27:24you are and what you're doing.
- 27:26Let your actions prove and your words once
- 27:29promised execute.
- 27:30I'm John C.
- 27:31Morley, and this has been another amazing, powerful
- 27:33episode of Inspirations for Your Life.
- 27:34Promise less, deliver more, finish what you result.
- 27:37And ladies and gentlemen, most importantly, let your
- 27:40results speak before you do.
- 27:45Have a great one everyone and be well.
