- 0:05Good morning, good morning, good morning. Welcome, welcome, welcome.
- 0:07It's time now for car Talk and Brad Dungeons with the Dungeons Family of Autos
- 0:12is your host with the most How you doing there, Brad, Oh,
- 0:14I'm doing great. Good morning friends, and it's Leap Day here we are
- 0:17on February twenty ninth. I don't think we've ever had a radio show on
- 0:21Leap Day. Well, I'm not leaping. I haven't. My vertical is
- 0:24only about I have it and does every four years. But I don't think
- 0:29it's ever fallen on my Thursday. I don't think it has no So this
- 0:32is really cool, and the springtime roller coaster continues. Here we are with
- 0:36a nice chili morning and you know it's gonna be hot again by Saturday,
- 0:41I guess. So. Anyway, that's brought it up the people in the
- 0:46evenings lately, we've had lots of traffic in the evenings. That's great.
- 0:49Truck is off to a great start, and I've got a lot of people
- 0:53kind of out planning their their summer vacations around vehicles and stuff. That's it
- 0:59starts to happen to time of years. You're ready for springtime. Brad,
- 1:02we got one of your brand new vehicles rolled up into our parking lot today.
- 1:06It really looks nice. Yeah. No, there's a beautiful red expedition
- 1:10out there by one of the the people around here, I'll say, and
- 1:15I was hoping it was my bonus. It's beautiful. We waited. That's
- 1:22a special order for someone's special here. So thanks to Dory there. She's
- 1:27happy with that. Her seems like it. That's good. And I've got
- 1:30a good friend here. Charlene is back on the show. Welcome, Thank
- 1:34you. Great to have you back. Big Brothers and Big Sisters is such
- 1:38a great organization and it's a big time of year for you with the Bowl
- 1:42for Kid's Sake season. I mean it's kind of a season. Well,
- 1:46it is a season. The bull dates are Our first Bowl is tomorrow,
- 1:52right, and we have five Bowl parties between now and March the fourteenth,
- 1:57So the next two weeks are seriously for a while. It has itsed a
- 2:02lot of money already. We have we have eighty four teams, which is
- 2:08the number of teams we had in twenty twenty before the pandemic. Because as
- 2:14you remember, our goal was done in the end of February, so we
- 2:16were not affected and we were trying to get back to that. So we
- 2:21have achieved that. And there's two teams that have more than six that are
- 2:27in the process of deciding if they're splitting. I hope they do, because
- 2:30then we can then we can exceed, you know, that would be good.
- 2:35One team it raised almost five thousand dollars already, and we've got a
- 2:39lot of teams that are really raising that nine hundred, which is the goal.
- 2:44I mean, that's the goal. Everybody raises, you know, what
- 2:46they can. But we've got a lot of nine hundred dollars teams, so
- 2:51that's really exciting. We have three hundred and seventy eight fund raisers, so
- 2:58that amazing. And this is goes on in other communities around the state too.
- 3:01It does. Their bulls tend to be later, like in the April
- 3:07timeframe, But Bartlesville raises more per capita than anybody in the state and always
- 3:15has and in most probably in most bulls in the United States. Because we're
- 3:20raising our goal is one hundred and fifty five to five, we're raising more
- 3:24than like three dollars a person, so that's really good. And we've raised
- 3:29nine. What is it ninety three to nine already now on Monday. Now,
- 3:35on Tuesday morning, when I looked at the scrub bar, it was
- 3:38seventy eight thousand. Oh cool, So between Tuesday and this morning, it's
- 3:44almost ninety four thousand. I was on that website this morning. That's a
- 3:47cool place to go see what's going on and get more information. It's got
- 3:52all. You can see a bar as the raise money, and there's information
- 3:55about some of the teams and how much they raise. Can see who the
- 3:59top the top teams are. We really appreciate our sponsors and Unjust Auto has
- 4:03been a sponsor for Brad. I don't know like how year or the beginning
- 4:12of time, you know, you know, well I've been hearing this is
- 4:15my thirty fifth year and I have to go back and find some of the
- 4:19reports and reporting. But we have sponsors who've been sponsors for both for kids
- 4:25saying we talk about it every week, how that is the backbone of bartles
- 4:30and how the community supporting itself and taking care of those who need things whatever
- 4:34it is, and especially the youth in Bartlesville and all the programs where you
- 4:40know, I mean, wait next week, we've got the livestock shows and
- 4:43coming off, and you know, all the work that leads up to that,
- 4:46all the stuff that happens in our community takes all this these resources and
- 4:51without the sponsors and the people going out and raising and building a team and
- 4:57raising that money, really just a few dollars of time is what is amazing
- 5:00about what you guys at that it's a peer to peer fundraising model, which
- 5:04means that you go out and ask your network of friends to support you as
- 5:10you're part of the one of the fundraitions, one of the bowlers. You
- 5:14know. Out of that one fifty five to five thirty three thousand of that
- 5:16is sponsors or I think fifteen sponsors and presenting sponsors DSR and our two kingpin
- 5:25sponsors are Conical Phillips and Sutterfield Financial. And then but all the rest of
- 5:33that is raised by people in the community who have a heart for the mission
- 5:38and want to raise money to support one to one mentoring. There's lots of
- 5:44you know, good youth programs in organizations serving youth in Bosville. We're the
- 5:49only true one to one mentoring program that does it over you know time.
- 5:55Our requirement is for volunteers as a minimum of a year. We hope to
- 5:59get to years. We've had ten year matches now that means nobody moved,
- 6:05everything worked well, but it's a long time. It's in a commitment to
- 6:12building a relationship with a child. And so to see that we've got six
- 6:19virtual teams, people who are like, I have a heart for the mission,
- 6:24I'm kind of over the bowling, or I can't bowld for whatever reason,
- 6:29or I'm not but I want to. I want to support one to
- 6:32one mentoring. And so they're a virtual fundraiser, which means that they're a
- 6:36team of one and they're going out to ask our network to support the organization.
- 6:42And each one of those last year, all of those virtual teams were
- 6:46over one thousand dollars. So it's really exciting when you think about the energy
- 6:51that's going into it and to see the energy of the people who are doing
- 6:57unique things. One of the hospital teams, it's a series of letters,
- 7:01so it's the O R team. They did a bake sale and they raised
- 7:09fourteen hundred dollars for their team. I don't know if the bake sale was
- 7:13the only thing that they did, but they it was a huge bake sale
- 7:16and unique idea or how do we raise money for our team. So we
- 7:21really appreciate that. Aaron Henry, I believe was the team captain, give
- 7:26her a little plug way to go erin that. What a great idea.
- 7:29And that's just those ideas people have. And like I said, just a
- 7:32few dollars at a time, one cake at a time. That's awesome.
- 7:36Yeah, I know. And it does all just support the one on one
- 7:40mentoring and I know you need volunteer mentors all the time. And we had
- 7:44the Low Family Scholar program on last week and they were talking about their upcoming
- 7:49event and how they work with you guys, and you know that need how
- 7:55many you know, So how does that work? Let's talk about the program
- 7:58in general. What people are supporting the Young Scholars is a partner. We
- 8:03are partners with them. Big Brothers. Big Sisters provides the mentoring component up
- 8:07there, so they recruit volunteers and they accept the youth into their program.
- 8:13We do all of the enrollment, we do all of the screening of the
- 8:18volunteers, the match selection, and then all the match support. So the
- 8:22mentoring component of Young Scholars is provided by Big Brothers. A great partner it
- 8:28is and college and they provide the academic supports, the you know, helping
- 8:37them find scholarship money, the community service pieces that they do. Uh,
- 8:43there's a lot of education pieces that enhance those matches that that Young Scholars provide,
- 8:50which is it's it is helping those children and that that Young Scholars was
- 8:54started to help children of the working poor have a shot being able to get
- 9:01a college education. So it's really working great. And the benefit is that
- 9:07some of the kids who came in the Big Brother Big Sister door who meet
- 9:11the criteria for Young Scholars have been accepted over into that program. Also they
- 9:18were already matches with us, but they meet the criteria and so they have
- 9:24been accepted. So it's really it's a partnership that's grown over the years and
- 9:28it's really doing well to serve the families in the community. We have thirty
- 9:35six kids on the waiting list right now, which is high. That's a
- 9:39lot, and seventeen of them are girls, so that's a lot of girls.
- 9:46Usually more and it's almost balanced out and most of the time we have
- 9:50more boys than girls. So our target for volunteers is males couples that can
- 9:56be matched with boys and of course women to new match with the girls.
- 10:01So you always need those volunteers. I always need them. And our goal
- 10:07this year, which is substantial, is four new matches a month, which
- 10:11is double what we had last year. Wow. So if you're listening and
- 10:18you ever had a thought about Gee, that sounds like something I'd like to
- 10:22get more information about, or I've been thinking about this for two years.
- 10:26Now is the time we would love to talk with you. It really is
- 10:31about a few hours a few times a month to just involve a child and
- 10:37things you're already doing and provide some guidance, a listening ear somebody to be
- 10:43an encourager, help them find new life experiences. It's a great program.
- 10:50And once again we've got both for kids, say coming up starting tomorrow,
- 10:54I guess, and with lots of bold dates. And it's probably a little
- 10:58late to get a team that you could. I know you can scramble together.
- 11:01Some people raise all their money in that last year you virtual virtual team.
- 11:07I was gonna say, yeah, if it's a walk, well yeah
- 11:11you could. If you're like, hey, I'd love to do a virtual
- 11:13team, I'll just you know, send out the link to my fundraising page
- 11:18everyone I ever knew and asked them to support it. We would be happy
- 11:22to have you. We actually added March the first Tomorrow's state because we were
- 11:30full on March the eighth. Got my research show that started on the seventh
- 11:35or eighth, you did. But then on March the eighth, we had
- 11:39like a waiting list and they were teams that could not bowl on Thursday.
- 11:41So it wasn't just to move them over, plus which we already have twenty
- 11:46one teams on Thursday, there's no place to put so we added a date.
- 11:52Do you know how much Red Apple really loved you? It is Red
- 11:56Apple, we love you. Back in twenty twenty, we had two Fridays
- 12:01and a Thursday. That's how we always have because we had you need that
- 12:07much to finish the teams, and then you know, and then that's what
- 12:11we were trying to get back to. But and we have two dates marks
- 12:16the seventh and the fourteenth at noon at the Phillip sixty six lanes is there
- 12:22are chnical Phillips in Phillips sixty six teams that preferred a bowl in that lunch
- 12:28hour time and the p sixty six lanes is wonderful in accommodating that for us.
- 12:33So it's going to be a busy two weeks, but we couldn't be
- 12:37more excited about the prospects. And we have a very generous community donor that
- 12:46is matching the first thirty thousand of twenty five dollars and up donations where the
- 12:52donor is not eligible for one of the company matching gift programs, which is
- 12:56the vast majority of our of our donors aren't eligible for a company marright,
- 13:01and so now they are because about three or four years ago I went to
- 13:09a donor and said, hey, would you like to make this available to
- 13:13our community? Wow, make it a community match for people who don't they
- 13:18don't work for a company to have a match. So those are gifts over
- 13:20twenty five dollars dollars or more are matched and donor is not eligible for a
- 13:26company matching gift program and they said, we're on it, and they continue
- 13:31to do it. So that's really exciting. I mean, we could not
- 13:35go out and recruit enough teams to that's a great story to do that.
- 13:39And anybody that donates twenty five dollars automatically for a community match turns into fifty
- 13:45double your money. That's awesome and help people out. Yeah, that's a
- 13:48great event and lots of people will be out there over the next few weeks
- 13:52boeing and raising money for this one on one mentering and it goes on in
- 13:58our community and it really helps kids that need need something, you know,
- 14:03there's some direction or kind of vulnerable, they need some self esteem, decision
- 14:09making, help invest in their potential. Yeah. All the sponsors, all
- 14:15the bowlers, all the donors, all the prize donors. Yeah, that's
- 14:20behind the scenes. People volunteer on the show. What we call sparks at
- 14:24the dealership is that idea of something getting started and you know a little bit
- 14:28of structure, a goal in the future, someplace to go. And you
- 14:31know, that's how my grandfather got in the car business. And I hear
- 14:35it from our employees all the time, and it's just it's one of their
- 14:39things. I love about my business is it kind of gives people some of
- 14:41those opportunities. But it's one of the great things about Bartlesville. I think
- 14:46that you guys and you guys are such a good example of it that we
- 14:48have these programs that really help people get on a good path and get some
- 14:54direction and a place to go, get an opportunity. Yeah, a lot
- 15:00of a lot of our social problems are lost opportunity cost. It's the lost
- 15:05opportunity people never had and and giving them that opportunity to find to see another
- 15:11way or to learn some skills that will help them, they just build and
- 15:16multiply. I mean they can. I mean that, that's the That's what
- 15:20happens is you see something you want to do and get some people around you
- 15:24doing it too. And a mentor can be part of that for sure.
- 15:28And we've all had mentors. Oh. The nice part of being here as
- 15:33long as I have been is I've seen kids grow up and become that we're
- 15:37matched in our programs that have become you know, productive citizens, and do
- 15:43they have jobs and they're doing great things, you know, and other big
- 15:50plans. You've got another event later in the year typically you know, you
- 15:54guys ready for that, or it's a little too early to start thinking about
- 15:58it. Well, no, bullet pins. It's a layering. Layering is
- 16:04not just for our weather. Well, some people may not want a bowl,
- 16:10and so I was thinking it's layering for fundraising as well. We have
- 16:15a theme. Our big event is the twenty fifth anniversary of Bigger Nice and
- 16:22so that's the theme. It's twenty fifth and we'll figure out what all that
- 16:26means. We have our secured our event chairs, which is exciting as Barbara
- 16:37and John b kaying. That is graduation. We're really excited about that and
- 16:44uh and we're starting to starting the planning for that. And this is in
- 16:51May. It's the fortieth anniversary of Big Brothers, Break Sisters serving Washington County
- 16:56Awesome graduations. And it's my thirty fifth year being the director. So we
- 17:02have lots of celebrations. Yeah, once we get past Bowl, we can
- 17:06think about the at I think this is going to be a party, No,
- 17:08I think so that'll be a great event. The last few years have
- 17:11been a lot of fun. I been lots of fun. But Bartlesville does
- 17:19not suffer for a lack of good parties to go. Know that that is
- 17:22true. We have plenty of good fundraising parties. But yeah, that a
- 17:27little bit more to your stuff. Ford Truck Month continues. We're here on
- 17:32Lead Day, the last day of February, and on this twenty ninth day
- 17:36of February, twenty twenty four, but Ford Truck Month will continue for the
- 17:40rest of March, and we've got great big discounts, low interest rates,
- 17:45and really inventory for the first time. I looked this morning and there were
- 17:48I think one hundred and forty total vehicles available in our computer system, and
- 17:55that's that's about the most since before COVID too, since like the Bulfer kicks
- 18:00right before before the pandemic, and you know, so that's really exciting to
- 18:04us. We've got great inventory like Bronco super Duty stuff like that on the
- 18:08ground for the first time in years or ifever I remember a Bronco like that.
- 18:12We've got some really neat good opportunity now. Just this would be more
- 18:17for people that are wanting to order a super duty. The Ford has some
- 18:21extra capacity and the six point eight meter gas engine and super duty, and
- 18:26they've asked us to round up some orders and get those in there. Got
- 18:30they will build those quickly, so you know, those are great trucks for
- 18:33ranches and workers out there in the field, and that'll be a great opportunity
- 18:37to get some additional inventory here and make a good deal. If you're interested
- 18:41in a super duty like that, reach out to our team. We're ordering
- 18:45those now for May production and we'll be going through that whole cycle with Ford
- 18:52and Toyota inventory now. We're working on those allocations soon and it's constantly changing.
- 19:00We've got, like I mentioned on the Ford side, the Great super
- 19:04duty Lightning Mockey, a little battery electric Ford vehicle had a pricing adjustment this
- 19:12last week which was really dramatic. Some of them went down as much as
- 19:17twelve six hundred dollars on the invoice, and so this is a massive reduction
- 19:22in price. I've got an example here of one that we have in stock.
- 19:26This is a twenty twenty three Macky GT all wheel drive. Its original
- 19:32sticker price was sixty six one thousand, thirty five dollars and now it is
- 19:37at fifty four four to thirty five. And this is a vehicle that it's
- 19:44a job one vehicle, and it comes with the Blue Cruise three year subscription,
- 19:48which is a twenty five hundred dollars hands free driving program and certain roads
- 19:52in the United States with the car will drive itself. Very interesting. It
- 19:59actually works right, might be better than some of the drivers. Well,
- 20:02this is a fact. I mean, if you haven't experienced what adaptive cruise
- 20:04control does in vehicles these days. It's really changed. Cruise control is a
- 20:10different thing. It can it can steer the vehicle, stop, you break,
- 20:14you start, you from a stop. You know, all butt drive
- 20:18you the cars pretty much. It can tell if you're paying attention. They'll
- 20:21tell you to look back at the road and put your hands on the wheel
- 20:22if you're not. The systems are really sophisticated, but they've taken that on
- 20:29some roads and it can actually drive yourself. You know, there's not a
- 20:33lot of that around here, to be honest. The hands free stuff is
- 20:36more in major metro areas and big highways. But if you're you know,
- 20:40you could just you get down to Tulsa there's some and if you're going on
- 20:44the highways to Dallas, there's lots of it. And if you go drive
- 20:48like that, things like the heck, I'm doing some more driving for soccer
- 20:52season. It is high school season and club season going on at the same
- 20:56time, so more scrimmages tonight in Tulsa, and the team was three and
- 21:00oh last week at the Bixby Tournament. There you go, that was good.
- 21:04We'll get onto the regular Seasonalie, he's a tall fellow. But yeah,
- 21:11and then get off on side because in the expedition and using the the
- 21:21adaptive cruise control to go go down the highway, can you do that adaptive
- 21:26cruise control like on the QT so like you know, your spouse doesn't know
- 21:29you ordered it, so you have to. Actually, you know, a
- 21:32lot of that comes now with the vehicles, Toyota's Safety Sense, which has
- 21:37a lot of the same technology. You know, none have the hands free
- 21:40driving completely, but the Safety Sense is standard on I think nineteen different models
- 21:45of Toyotas and it will be in all of them going forward. And you
- 21:49know that's one thing I'm really you know Toyota does is put that really important
- 21:53technology, not making it something you have to pay extra for. You know,
- 21:57that's important stuff. It's a it's a real safety thing. I mean,
- 22:02I you know, stop and pedestrian alert systems, you know, recognizing
- 22:07when you're about to hit something and keeping you from hitting it is I love,
- 22:11my important. The thing of it is it's a two thousand and seven,
- 22:15so it doesn't have all that safety, but it is the thought of
- 22:19why it might be a time to upgrade. But I think that that's that's
- 22:23a good point if you haven't checked out that kind of technology, Yeah,
- 22:27people really should because you know, vehicles are changing rapidly. I you know,
- 22:33we've got things like electric vehicles, hybrids, hybrid plug ins. Now
- 22:38there's so many choices, and you know it is going to be an evolution
- 22:42here over the next few years. And that technology is rapidly improving. The
- 22:48price of that stuff is coming down with inventories going and the good interest rates
- 22:52now there's there is some opportunity to to get into a good vehicle now that
- 22:56will last you another fourteen fifteen years, Charlie. You know I was told
- 23:04is they do last forever? Brand in all I'm going for twenty kid,
- 23:10All you have to do is really change the tires and the oil and the
- 23:12belts. And yeah, we're talking before the show that she's not She's just
- 23:18in just a little over one hundred thousand miles, one hundred and thirty two
- 23:22thousand, and really the only thing I've starting done to that car is tires
- 23:26and absolute regular maintenance. But nothing nothing, plenty of life left. I'm
- 23:32sure it does, yees. So that's what we got a lot of other
- 23:36great stuff you know that I've done just too now when you buy, if
- 23:38you bought a new Corolla Cross, I was suggesting to you similar to your
- 23:41matrix, that you get a Zurich Shield Elite Plus with this an advanced ceramic
- 23:47technology we put on the interior and exterior of the vehicle at no cost to
- 23:52you. It's a paint production product and interior nothing like Scotch Gard or something
- 23:56for the interior. But it really prevents staining if you spill coffee or spill
- 24:00something else in the car from the staining of the fabric or the carpet and
- 24:06keeps things from getting on the paint, makes it much easier to clean and
- 24:10all that, and so all our new cars come with that and no cost,
- 24:15just for being a customer of Dungeons. So we do our market based
- 24:19pricing too every day. I was one of the first things I do every
- 24:23morning is going and make sure our cars are priced more than competitively, you
- 24:29know, look at I can expand the range of what vehicles I'm looking at
- 24:33and look at make sure I'm looking at similar vehicles and how other dealers price
- 24:37them and what they're selling for. And we do that so to take all
- 24:42the stress out of buying a car. Set you up with our great professional
- 24:48sales team. They're non commissioned, salaried professionals. They really take pride and
- 24:52taking care of their customers and don't worry about the you know the pressure of
- 24:59selling a car for more money, more profit. That's really that's really.
- 25:03Surely in another seven years, when you're ready to buy a car, you
- 25:08don't have to block out a whole afternoon. It might take thirty five to
- 25:12forty minutes. Noncommissioned salespeople get a breeze. It's a little bit easier.
- 25:18There's less back and forth. You know. It's sometimes these days find getting
- 25:22that right cars the you know, the challenge if we've got to search for
- 25:26a color option packages, but our time does that very important? Yes,
- 25:30color, I mean everything's important. These are big decisions for people. Well,
- 25:33yeah, I look that car for for a long time, I'm living.
- 25:37Yeah, I've had this car for thirteen years and I think that's how
- 25:41long it's been. Like that and something like that. Yeah, but they
- 25:47make it so simple they do. You can even work your price online.
- 25:51Yeah, we do have the great shopping tools online. Pictures of all the
- 25:53vehicles you can get to a car fax on any of our vehicles and reach
- 26:00out to the team there too, chat tools, ask any question you want.
- 26:03You can actually calculate your own deals, so I mean a lot of
- 26:06it. You can answer your own questions of what's the payment, what if
- 26:08I extend the loan, Are there any special rebates or interest rates from Ford?
- 26:15What happens if I combine those? If there's if some don't work together.
- 26:18The system will help you figure that out, so you can tell what
- 26:22deal is best for you. It's really great technology and it allows us.
- 26:29It's really what helps you save the time because if you do a lot of
- 26:32that beforehand and you not kind of know the answers to those questions, then
- 26:37we can pick up right there rather than start over. If you think about
- 26:41shopping in the past, sometimes you'd have that knowledge, people would have an
- 26:45idea, but then you'd come in and kind of start over with the negotiation
- 26:49process and a car dealership. And we can with our simple price and the
- 26:56great out the door market based prices we have in the noncommission sales team,
- 27:00it just goes quicker and easier. Is that noncommissioned sales team unique to its
- 27:07industry. It's not completely There are certainly and have been for a long time.
- 27:11People that were getting away from this, and we haven't paid a true
- 27:14commission since I started as the general manager in two thousand and two. It's
- 27:19something not to our sales team. It just it's something that I believe in
- 27:26a different motivation for our team. We really focus on being a great place
- 27:30to work and having a team that wants to take care of people. We
- 27:33want to serve our customers and our community and be there to do it again
- 27:37tomorrow. And we know we need repeat customers to do that. And you
- 27:41know, some of the noncommissioned salespeople are so popular with their clients. They
- 27:47bring it cookie well. And we attract such different people. Yeah, I
- 27:49mean, I think seventy five percent of our sales team now as women,
- 27:55and it wasn't that way before. And we have to flex schedules, have
- 28:00single mothers people, you know, we have a lot of stuff going on,
- 28:03a lot of but it allows us to attract a different kind of person
- 28:07and you know, and they and you know, the other thing about a
- 28:11commission is, you know, because the at the end, it's not really
- 28:14a bad thing. It's just how it works. And you know that,
- 28:18but what you don't know with a commission is what I'm gonna make next month,
- 28:22right, Yeah, And that's scary to a lot of people to have
- 28:25you to to count on productivity to write your own check. And so our
- 28:30team does know it is somewhat based on their productivity. Their salary is builds
- 28:36over time as their productivity grows. But they know going into any month they've
- 28:40got to set salary that they before they ever sell a car. And that's
- 28:45really important, particularly if you are the sole way journal for your for your
- 28:49you know, and there are things that are outside of your control that are
- 28:53happening that you could be the best salesman in the world and you still don't
- 29:00have that safe. That's right. Well, we talked a little too long,
- 29:03Tom, but come see us out of duneus folks, thank you alrighty
