CM Punk made his long-awaited return | The Still Real to Us Show | Episode #697 – 6/22/23 · Real. Guy. Pods.

It's stupid. Welcome everybody. Welcome to this week's edition is so Real to
0:20
show episode number six hundred ninety seven for June one, second, twenty forty
0:25
three. Welcome, So there, this week's edition of ass Are Team are
0:31
years. I am one after show, I am Jeff joined every single week
0:36
my post one, Doctor Gray Franklin, Doctor Trey. CM punk is back.
0:41
My friend, he is. Um, I didn't hear that with him,
0:46
So nobody's alway, Jef, were you at men? You're supposed to
0:48
let me know that CM punks making a return. Yeah, I know it
0:51
came out of nowhere. Um, I have no idea where he's been the
0:55
last couple of months. It's it's been a big cloud of mystery. Like
0:59
the last time we saw him, like he won the AW World Championship then
1:03
I don't know, it just kind of poof, was gone right afterwards,
1:06
like no no rhyme nor reason why he would be gone, Doctor Trey.
1:11
So yeah, he just magically appeared. And I think he had a championship
1:14
in a red bag on collision. I'm not too sure. So the CM
1:18
stands for like Chicago magician m Maybe now you see me? Now you do
1:23
maybe you just is wrestling in Chicago. Now, there's actually a guy in
1:27
a NWA who's a friend of mine. His name is Magic Jake Doomas.
1:32
So if they go with the cmpunk of the Magician, right, I think
1:34
Jake might get to have a little bit of gimmick infringement to go on there.
1:38
But yeah, it's just it's so weird. This is this is what
1:41
we talked about a few weeks ago when he was finally announced that he was
1:44
going to be making his return in Chicago. Is how the crowd is going
1:47
to react, how the roster was going to react. So you know,
1:51
I'm still gathering my own feedback from people that were there and stuff. So
1:56
it's pretty interesting to say the least. Yeah, well, we'll talk about
1:59
the return of cmpunk the debut of Collision here momentarily. But first, just
2:04
a couple of a housecleaning items here. If this sounds like it's slightly outdated,
2:09
it is because Doctor try and I have recorded these in advance. I'm
2:14
getting married this upcoming Saturday, and you know, Doctor Trey, it would
2:19
not be a wedding or a big moment in somebody's life if there wasn't some
2:23
sort of like weird, unnecessary stress. So I don't know what it's been
2:29
like for you when you're heading into your weddings, and it's not like stress
2:32
between myself and my future wife. It's more of like things that are outside
2:38
of our control, or I guess we could have controlled. It is kind
2:44
of unraveled a little bit, and throw in a little twist and turn going
2:49
into the wedding itself. Have you ever experienced that or was everything smooth sailing
2:53
for you? Before I tell my side of the story here. My first
2:57
wedding, I had nothing to do with it. I was just basically just
3:01
tell me when, tell me where I'll show up. So like with that
3:07
one, it was like the red contracted my father in law to kind of
3:13
handle the videography stuff, and then I didn't check out the venue and we
3:19
actually the building that we did it in they actually had like giant church pews
3:23
that so instead of walking down the middle, you had to walk around the
3:27
side to come back up to the stage, so that was awkward. Flowers
3:32
didn't show up on time, so there's a few hiccups. The first one,
3:35
second one, I took over and just basically kind of set everything up
3:39
like I'm the one that found the venue. I'm the one that found uh
3:43
you know, the minister, I'm the one that booked the reception area kind
3:47
of coordinate. So I just kind of took over because I just get tired
3:53
of indecisiveness. Just pick something and run with it. Yeah, yeah,
3:58
I guess for me, my story would be similar to that of Flowers not
4:02
arriving, but a bigger deal. So this past weekend, we're going through
4:09
like where we had a bunch of this stuff that we have for our wedding
4:12
piled into this little like container that we have, and I take out my
4:17
wedding band. So the wedding band that we purchased, we purchased them back
4:24
in January, so like five months, six months before the actual wedding,
4:27
just to kind of get it over with and just you know, one least
4:30
thing to check off. And we're not having a huge wedding, very very
4:33
small, intimate wedding, just with our immediate families. And I go to
4:41
put it on and it doesn't fit all of a sudden. So I have
4:46
lost about twenty pounds since the wedding planning began, got down to a very
4:55
healthy normal weight happy with all that, feel much better healthwise, and I
5:01
guess I was carrying weight my fingers, Doctor Trey because the wedding band I
5:05
put on no longer fits. And it's like, I mean, if I
5:13
put my hand down in the ground right right, like pointing my fingers towards
5:16
to the ground, would it fall off. No, but it's it's not
5:20
the right fits. So decide that day that we're going to run over to
5:25
where we purchased our rings, and we called an advance, said what was
5:30
going on. They said, we typically don't do this, but being that
5:32
you guys haven't gotten married yet, it's totally fine. Come on down.
5:35
Will hold a half size and a full size for you. So go there.
5:43
I show them the wedding band that I have had at the time,
5:45
and they were like, oh, yeah, no, that that doesn't fit.
5:47
I try on the next half size. There's no quarter sizes, and
5:53
that one comes off a little bit easy as well, so they're like,
5:55
wow, you got to go full size. So I put the full size
5:59
on and I didn't know this as a married man, maybe I guess you
6:03
can support this. But as I'm taking the ring off, like I'm wiggling
6:08
it off my finger so I can can take it off, and they're like,
6:11
that's how it's supposed to be. And I'm thinking myself, like,
6:14
well, when I did this back in January, I don't remember it,
6:17
like wiggling off my finger like this, So I think the entire time I
6:20
had the wrong size. And this was with a jeweler who was like helping
6:26
us out. So I'm like, yeah, okay, so full size this
6:29
is it. And they proceed to tell us, well, we don't have
6:31
your ring in stock, so it's like, oh crap. So then we
6:38
had to order the next ring up and we're putting a bar in it.
6:45
I learned a lot about jewelry all of a sudden, a bar in it
6:47
so that it fits my finger and the bars in there in the event that,
6:51
you know, the older I get, the more weight eye gain again,
6:55
I guess. And if I have to take the bar out at any
6:58
moment getting married on this upcoming Saturday, when will the wedding band be available
7:04
Friday? So it's like you have got to be shitting me, so kind
7:10
of important. There is a backup plan if God forbid it's not ready,
7:13
can just go with one of those you know, silicone rings, and it
7:15
will make a good story. But it was again very small wedding that we're
7:20
having. Took a lot care of a lot of things in the beginning.
7:25
Don't want a lot of boogie things in general. And here we are in
7:30
that final week and uh yeah, presently as we record the show, I
7:33
do not have a wedding band ready to go for my wedding on Saturday.
7:39
It's it's really you mentioned that because I just had that talk with my wife
7:41
because I had ordered I have my original wedding ring, but I ordered a
7:46
backup one just to where to work and things like that, a little small,
7:48
you know, cheaper band, but just that way that you know if
7:51
I lose it. It's not a huge law, but just something. And
7:57
I think you and I met for the first time face to face like two
8:00
thousand and ten, I think it was I think it was nine. I
8:05
was rough. I was a pretty big guy back then. I was probably
8:09
about around like two sixty five to seventy. I just waited in today at
8:11
one eighty five. The lightest, the lightest I have ever been like since
8:18
probably like sixth grade. So I have always had the same ring size.
8:24
I've always been at ten. Uh. So I ordered the ring. It
8:28
comes in, I'm looking at it's the same size as my other ring.
8:31
I'm like, all right, this looks this looks okay. And so like
8:33
last night Father's Day, I threw it on just to kind of see how
8:37
it fit and everything else like that. I'm like, this thing's pretty loose.
8:39
And I started like snapping my hand back and forth and like like you're
8:43
drying you like you're air drying your hands after your wed, you know,
8:48
and it's shifting and I'm like, I did not know that your hands could
8:52
really lose weight. So I was so when you're telling me the story,
8:56
I'm like, I know exactly what you're talking about. Luckily for me,
9:00
I got him. I could think I have these rings off like some wish
9:03
dot com type site. So there's only five bucks out the window. But
9:07
I'm like, crap, if I lose anymore white, I'm have to go
9:09
back in and resize the actual wedding ring. And I really don't want to
9:13
deal with it because I'm I'm at the point now like I don't like going
9:16
places if I can't just order it and tell somebody what I need done.
9:20
I really don't want to deal with it. Like the only place I like
9:22
going a person is to my watch guy. So if I need to like
9:26
take a link out or you know, get a bat or something like that,
9:28
Like my watch guys pretty good. But jewelers and everything's like that.
9:31
Like I just I really hate going in there, so I try to avoid
9:35
it at all cause but in your situation, you really don't have an option.
9:39
Let's you just do a bread tie around your finger, you know,
9:41
or something like that for the wedding. True true. And the thing is,
9:45
it was like late on Saturday on the weekend and I was like,
9:48
man, last thing I really want to do, because it's like maybe forty
9:52
fifty minute drive for us to go to where we bought our rings. I
9:56
was like, oh my god. This is like, first off, it's
9:58
it's not planned. I'm highly frustrated this has happened. And you know,
10:01
like the thought was, well, I'll just go there and pick up the
10:05
half size. I'm sure that'll fit. And it's like, thank god I
10:07
went because it didn't. And if we did that then we would be back
10:11
at square one and have to go make another trip. So less than twenty
10:16
four hours away from being married this upcoming weekend, I will have to pick
10:22
up my ring. If there is a god's chance at all that it's done
10:26
earlier, that would be great. But here we are very very small wedding
10:31
yet final week. Obviously everything is not perfect, so it is what it
10:37
is. If anybody has similar stories like that with their weddings, feel free
10:41
to chime in at SRTU podcast on Twitter or even Facebook dot com slash So
10:46
Real to Us show. I figured I would start with that this week,
10:48
a little bit of relatable stuff for those they listen to the pod that are
10:50
married, have gone through the wedding process, and as doctor Trey said,
10:54
with his first wedding, most guys it's like I don't care, Like,
10:56
let's just you know, wherever you want to do it. That's kind of
11:00
been mymo and I wanted to get a lot of things done early. And
11:03
I guess that kind of bit me in the ass because by dropping like fifteen
11:07
to twenty pounds, now I have to get a whole full size different ring.
11:11
So guys learn from both Doctor tryan I hear similar stories. You lose
11:16
weight, that's great your health here. However, things that typically would fit
11:22
and I'm not talking about like pants, but like wedding bands may not fit
11:24
again. So if you don't want to lose the weight, tell your significant
11:28
other like, wow, you know, you know this ring won't fit and
11:30
you have to buy me another one if you're pushing me to lose some weight.
11:33
But there you go, wedding talk here on this week's edition of SRTU.
11:37
If that didn't think, I would leave with that, but I figured,
11:39
oh, okay, it's a nice story, or not a nice story,
11:41
but relatable, you know, crazy story heading into you know, one
11:46
of the biggest days of our lives. So that's where we are, folks.
11:52
Things that have gone on for a long time. Not talking about my
11:56
wedding planning, but was one cmpunk. As we mentioned the start of the
12:00
show, he's been away for nine to ten months. We have not seen
12:05
him since the all out press conference which then led into brawl out. He
12:09
has disappeared off AW television, was not mentioned on AW television up until maybe
12:16
three weeks ago. Four weeks ago. There's been a cloud of secrecy in
12:22
regards to his status. There's been reports that there's been no movement, There's
12:28
been talks, reports of potential buyouts, talks of meetings with Chris Jericho,
12:33
talks of lawyers saying they can't talk to one another, and that all came
12:37
to a head and ended once cult of personality came across the speakers of the
12:45
United Center for the debut edition of AW Collision, which we'll get to here
12:48
momentarily as well. But prior to all that, doctor Trey Cmpunk tells teld
12:54
his side of the story somewhat to ESPN having to sit down every when I
13:00
say that, somewhat because I guess legally he cannot mention the elite Kenny Omegan
13:05
the Young Bucks by name. However, he did talk about Hangman Adam Page,
13:09
spoke about their issues what took place, mentioned that he was very pissed
13:16
off heading into that press conference, which was shocking here because of one his
13:20
injury and two nothing had been done between he and the elite after times where
13:26
he had said he made attempts for it to be resolved. That to me
13:30
was like obviously a shot at at Tony Kahn and the leadership of AW.
13:35
Then he gets in the ring, cuts his promo, I would say,
13:37
alludes to the Young Bucks because he called them counterfeit Bucks during his promo said
13:45
that our favorite wrestlers are soft. It was a tweener heelish promo. Despite
13:50
being cheered in Chicago, there were some booze for seampunk in Chicago. I
13:56
would say it was probably ninety ten maybe eighty twenty at best eighty and ninety
14:01
percent for cheers, ten to twenty percent for booze. But the long awaited
14:05
return for CM punkin if he would return to AW took place this past Saturday
14:11
night. He entered the ring, he had his first match Doctor Trey.
14:15
Your thoughts and everything that led up to this, the ESPN story and then
14:16
the debut the next night during the redbut the next night at AW Collision see
14:24
and this is where we kind of, you know, try to figure out
14:26
what's going on the inner workings of AW, because in my head, you
14:31
would have a PR person, a public relationship person who would kind of go,
14:35
hey, uh, was it what he's one Big or big Big Bill
14:39
Phil or whether whether one he said he was one Bill Phil One Bill Phil,
14:43
Like, Hey, maybe going out and doing this interview with ESPNS and
14:48
kind of yeah, let's let's talk about the show. Let's not talk about
14:52
everything, like you know, keep it kind of focused on what's coming up,
14:58
not what happened that where a good pr person comes in. So but
15:01
then knowing that was that really just a work I mean, is that maybe
15:05
maybe they really have made up and it's it's this is all just us them
15:09
working us or something. So it was definitely here's start of reading those comments
15:13
heading into collision. Um, music hits crowd rough. I mean, like
15:20
you said, there was a there's a small percentage of people that you know
15:24
are unhappy with them, and we talked about that that there's gonna be some
15:26
elite die hard that you know just hate them punk but for the most part,
15:31
it's just good to have him back. And then it was kind of
15:35
a tweener ish promo, maybe a just angry, baby faced type promo.
15:41
Uh, this kind of depends on where you where you followed, but um,
15:46
it's just weird, just like I get it. It's the biggest story
15:48
in wrestling, the brawl out stuff. But you know, it's kind of
15:52
like, all right, we don't need to keep airing air in the laundry
15:56
on TV for everybody, Like let's leave it backstage and hey, if you
16:00
guys got to come to blows again, you come to blows again. I
16:03
just I'm almost talked out of this until we get to Omega versus Kenny Orr
16:11
against the you know, against the elite. I'm just kind of out on
16:15
it right now. Yeah. I mean, for me one, let me
16:19
preface this by saying, I'm I'm a big seampunk fan. I'm happy that
16:22
he's back in AW as well. I think the part where we obviously agree
16:29
on this is I'm I'm done talking about this. I read the interview Friday's
16:34
interview from ESPN, and on Thursday that reports out there from Fight Full PW
16:38
Inside or what have you had reports that this interview made the rounds backstage at
16:47
AW Dynamite this past Wednesday. The crews knew about it. There were some
16:51
comments that were made about potential quotes that were being used and what have you,
16:56
and people were like rolling their eyes about it or waiting for it.
17:00
So it gained a lot of momentum over less than twenty four hour period.
17:03
Story drops and it's just like clarity from punk side for the most part.
17:08
The part where it was like, oh God, why are we going down
17:11
this road is where he starts taking shots at Hangman out on page. I
17:17
mean, if it doesn't unless this leads towards something as you said, doctory
17:22
in the ring, it like, this is just so damning. If we
17:26
go two years from now and these paths never cross and they never ever figure
17:33
out how to make this work to make some money, then this is just
17:37
a total black eye and a missopportunity for all Elite wrestling. And then from
17:41
a leadership perspective, looks really really bad to me where they legitimately cannot have
17:48
seam Punk's camp and the Elites camp on the same show. There are reports
17:52
out there as we record this, it's it's before this week's edition of aw
17:57
Dynamite that there's reports out there that Punk be on AW Dynamite this Wednesday,
18:02
while the Elite will not be, and the Elite have already filmed their stuff
18:07
for this week's edition the show. So it's like, Okay, this is
18:11
strange. I just thought that was unnecessary going down that rabbit hole again with
18:17
the hangman out of Page seeing Punk stuff. We heard it during the press
18:18
press conference, and we heard it again. Obviously, always appreciate his honesty.
18:25
You know, he talked about what was bubbling up and boiling over that
18:27
there were no issues about it. He seems to think that they were the
18:30
ones that were leaking information to the dirt sheets. They deny that it's the
18:34
same song and dance we talked about nine to ten months ago. I get
18:37
that there's legal reasons involved, and I don't know where the legal reasons stem
18:41
from. I don't know if this is aw making legal reasons. I don't
18:44
know if it's is the elite putting out the legal reasons like keep him away
18:48
from me. I don't know if it's punks people, though if you were
18:51
the interview, it would seemed that it's not punks people that are legally saying
18:56
dun't go and talk to them. But the best course of action in here
19:00
would be to get all these parties involved in a room and hash this out
19:04
once and for all, because from a behind the scenes drama perspective, it's
19:11
ridiculously stupid. From a product content perspective, is this leads to no feuds
19:17
ever in the history of aw between these two groups, these two factions,
19:22
these multiple people, then it really makes no sense at all. The part
19:27
of me still thinks that this is an angle and we're keeping being kept left
19:33
in the dark a little bit about obviously that they did resolve issues. I
19:38
don't think he gets away with that counterfeit bucks comment one Bill Phil stuff.
19:44
If this wasn't potentially going to be an angle soon, it would be in
19:48
the best enstance of all Elite Wrestling. If it wasn't angle soon, and
19:52
they kind of it could be one of their best story lines ever if it
19:56
does lead to a feud between c Himpunk and FTR and the Elite. With
20:03
that said, the promo was very heelish. I'm under the belief Doctor Trey
20:10
that CM Punk is coming back as a tweener and we don't know if he
20:14
will be a baby face or if he'll be a heel. But he said
20:17
he's not going to be taking any more lies, He's not gonna be telling
20:21
anymore. He's gonna he tells no lies, and that he is no longer
20:25
no more nice guy Phil Brooks. So um, I dig it. When
20:30
Punk is pissed off, when he has a chip on his shoulder, when
20:34
he's got an attitude, I think he's at his best. He looked decent
20:37
in the ring on Saturday night for the first time coming back in nine to
20:42
ten months. In an actual televised match. So I just hope this all
20:48
works up for all EAT Wrestling in the end, because if it doesn't,
20:51
and if this trend continues for the next three to six months, it's just
20:56
gonna look so silly for me from a fan to a leadership perspective and now
21:00
wrestling, Yeah, I mean, there have been many times the history of
21:06
wrestling where two people or group of people just absolutely despised each other and then
21:11
came together for the good of the show or the good of the brand,
21:15
or oh bottom line, the good of their wallet, you know, the
21:18
good of their paychecks. And this is one of those situations, like this
21:22
is the most captivating thing aw's had that they can kind of feed off of
21:29
in quite some time, if ever, And you're right, if six months
21:33
from now, we're still not there, And this is with Punk working on
21:36
Dynamite, and that just means that the elite will probably end up working over
21:40
you know, on collision. To not have these people path or cross these
21:45
paths crossed, it is just ludicrous. So I'm kind of under the feeling
21:52
just like you said that, like you know, they've kind of hashed some
21:56
stuff out because you don't get away with that line. And then the retort
22:02
was, yeah, this was like twenty nineteen, we'd have a shirt up
22:04
on BWT right away with counterfeit bucks. You know, you don't get away
22:08
with that, you don't poke the bear and not cause issues. But you
22:12
know, if this is, if the reality is it's all a work,
22:15
I mean, it's all a shoots and both camps don't like each other.
22:21
It kind of feels like Tony Kahn's like the step mom in between a husband
22:26
and wife who broke up and the stepmom's got to help, you know,
22:30
figure out how to get the kids around and stuff like that. Like he's
22:33
kind of playing both sides of a little bit. So it's just interesting the
22:37
dynamic of how all of this is playing out right now. Yeah, again,
22:41
like if this from a storyline standpoint, if this leads to a storyline,
22:45
it makes ton of sense. If if it does not lead to a
22:48
storyline, then again you come into question Tony Khn's leadership as the head of
22:52
a w event. It's like, this was just really bizarre. So we
22:56
hope the biggest benefit is the fan base, us the wrestling fans with see
23:02
him punk back in the fold at aw That is obviously one big benefit.
23:04
The second benefit would be, let's see this play out on wrestling television.
23:08
Let's have some really intense promos, Let's have some great matches, Let's have
23:11
a great feud, and let's help elevate all elite wrestling in the summer months,
23:15
because this could really do it. Let's, you know, tell me
23:19
that you worked us. You worked us for the last couple of months.
23:22
The brawl out was weird, was real, but you know, you worked
23:26
us the last couple of months. They resolved issues, the brand splits and
23:32
you know, two different groups, and then Punk needs to be here while
23:34
the elite's over there. And then when the Elite comes over to Collision,
23:37
Punk needs to be on Dynamite. They can't be in the same room together.
23:41
Was all just for not and just for show and tell and to make
23:44
us believe into this feud a little bit more. So. That's the hope
23:48
that for me as a wrestling fan, this is why Sean and Brett was
23:52
so good at ninety seven. We want to see this play out on our
23:53
television screens for the benefit of the wrestling fan base, rather than it just
23:57
being this weird, awkward drama that just takes place behind the scenes from time
24:03
to time. So see him. Punk is back. He redbuted re returned
24:07
during AW Collision, which made its debut episode this past Saturday night, Doctor
24:11
Trey. We have a new announced team for All Elite Wrestling, with Kevin
24:15
Kelly and Nigel McGuinness leading the charge. A very surprising to see Kevin Kelly
24:19
working for All Elite Wrestling after being with New Japan's English commentary team for so
24:23
long. Nigel's been under contract with AW now for some time working on the
24:27
ROH brand. I've been a big fan of Nigel for some time. I
24:32
thought W has misused him the last like two three years he was under contract
24:36
with that company. Happy to see him back out there. Obviously. Loved
24:38
the throwback logo to Monday Nitro. The set was very, very visually cool.
24:44
I mean, the best set that they've ever done for the television program.
24:48
I felt like was a Collision set. Loved the theme song with Saturday
24:52
Nights meant for fighting with Elton John That was really cool. Other than that,
24:56
it felt like a normal AW show. Happy to see Merrow back.
25:00
Happened to see Andrew al eat a low back excited to see some wrestlers get
25:04
an opportunity to really showcase their skills because they don't get the time on Dynamite
25:10
each week. So excited for all that. As I've said before, it's
25:14
like another wrestling show, but when I get into the aw fan base,
25:18
it's like, Okay, this could be really cool for the company. Hopefully
25:21
it doesn't feel like just a Dynamite show moving forward. It has its own
25:26
different look and feel, which it does presently. I thought for episode number
25:29
one there were some hiccups, Kevin Kelly, Nigel McInnis getting their feet underneath
25:33
them, especially Kevin Kelly working with a new promotion that he has not worked
25:37
with before. So overall, I thought it was a great up debut episode
25:41
for All Wrestling. Collision Doctor try Yeah, you know, I can't.
25:45
I can't dispute that at all. Like to me, it's kind of you
25:48
know, it was. It was solid. You know, it has its
25:53
moments where I was like, oh, that's really good, and had their
25:56
moments from like and and not so much. But you know, once again,
26:00
this is still you know, a three almost four year old company that
26:06
still has hiccups on their main show. And now you're kind of maybe splitting
26:10
the production staff and you're doubling up on either on either on the production STAPs,
26:14
either getting doubled up on the workload or they hired a brand new staff
26:17
to come in and kind of help run the other show. So with those
26:21
things being said, you know, you're gonna have hiccups, You're gonna have
26:22
missteps, things like that, but overall, very very quality show, and
26:26
it takes a while. Like even it with SmackDown debut, it felt like
26:30
a blue Monday Night Raw. It took a little while for that show to
26:33
finance voice, and I expect Collision to kind of go down the same road.
26:37
There's still some reports reports out that are right now that there's going to
26:41
be like some sort of roster split. I don't know if it's going to
26:45
be an actual, like draft roster split. There's you know, but probably
26:49
as I'm saying this, they've already announced it for Dynamite because we're recording before
26:52
Dynamite. I know they have copyrighted the phrase transferportal, So something is probably
27:00
up here. We just don't necessarily know what. But if it gives wrestlers
27:04
who weren't being showcased on Dynamite and Opportunity those that we want to see more
27:08
of Ricky Stark's Amro Andrade, Alidlo, Powerhouse, Hobbs, Wardlow, Lucasaurus,
27:14
whoever. I'm here for it because there are times and I enjoy Dynamite,
27:17
Don't get me wrong, but there are times that we see the same
27:19
wrestlers each and every week performing on Dynamite. I love Orange Cassidy, He's
27:23
like the opening match nearly every week. I love Swort Strickland, He's on
27:27
that show a lot, Jungle Boys on there, a lot, Hooks on
27:32
there, a lot. I mean, I just would love an opportunity to
27:33
see more folks get an opportunity to perform. And I think this is exciting
27:37
for all elite wrestling. And we'll see where Collision goes as we move forward.
27:42
Switching over to World Wrestling Entertainment, Doctor Trade. This past Friday on
27:48
SmackDown, Jay Usso has officially turned his back on the Bloodline. He has
27:52
sided with his brother Jimmy Uso and that has ignited a bloodline civil war that
27:57
will pursueably main event Money the Bank in a couple of weeks. A tag
28:03
team match solo in Roman taken on the USO's You know, I've really enjoyed
28:11
this storyline, but I just felt like, of all the things that we've
28:15
ever seen in this storyline, from Sammy turning his back on the Bloodline at
28:18
the Royal Rumble, from Jimmy Usso turning his back on the Bloodline at Night
28:23
of Champions, to Jay Usso turning his back at SmackDown, I've said the
28:29
last couple of weeks that I think Jay Uso is the most compelling and relatable
28:32
wrestling character in all of professional wrestling right now. I think the fans have
28:36
this really cool, emotional, deep tie to him right now based on the
28:38
way that he's been built up the last three years. And I felt like
28:41
that his execution of turning his back on the Bloodline was the least surprising and
28:49
the least impactful. Shockingly enough, I thought it was a good build up
28:55
towards it and a nice swerve, but I felt like Sammy, Zane and
28:59
jim usus was bigger and better than Jay's the guy that I really enjoy watching
29:04
just as much. Yeah, and my only issue if it is I don't
29:12
want to say they kind of I mean, you just had Sammy turn six
29:17
months ago, then Jimmy just turned a couple of weeks ago, you know,
29:21
and then this one, like I felt like, I don't want to
29:22
say they did it too quickly. I would have liked to see that Jay's
29:26
turn be a little bit bigger and a little bit more drawn out. But
29:33
you know, especially when he's backstage telling you, O, hey, once
29:36
I'm in, you know, once I'm in charge, haim in your out,
29:37
that kind of gave away the ending and it would you know, I
29:41
was like, oh, well, Jimmy didn't think you're the right leader.
29:44
Oh well, you know, God forbid your brother have a differentiating opinion at
29:48
the time. So it was so good and and I to me, supertickting
29:53
your own little brothers even a bigger thing than superticking to your cousin. But
29:59
you I just kind of wish did Jimmy turny had played out, because in
30:02
a way, it took Jimmy being the first guy to state up to Roman
30:07
to being the last guy to realize what a jerky was. It just it
30:10
seemed a little bit like it could have been drawn out just a little bit
30:12
more. I guess see, that's a great point that you made there where
30:15
it was like Jay was the last one to realize it and he was like
30:19
the first one that fought it, which maybe it that's the point of the
30:22
storyline. I think the direction I would have liked to see is play this
30:29
out a little bit more. I know, wrestling wrestling promotions, hay when
30:33
fans do this, but I'm going to do it anyway. Fantasy booking,
30:34
I would have done Roman versus Jimmy us for Money the Bank and have like,
30:41
maybe Jay work as a special guest referee, or he is the undecided
30:45
party sitting in ringside and he makes still you know, Roman still wins.
30:52
Roman does it by doing the guillotine choke that we haven't seen him do in
30:56
a while, chokes out Jimmy and and Jay is still very torn. And
31:02
it goes on way past the bell and Jay treys to break it up a
31:04
little bit and you can see that he's torn. It's his brother, it's
31:07
his cousin, it's the bloodline. Play it out a little bit, and
31:11
then dragged the tag team match itself heading into SummerSlam. I think that the
31:15
match for Money the Bank I felt like would have been better for maybe SummerSlam
31:21
and you have a little bit more of a longer build towards this. You
31:26
know, jbing torn which way does he go? Which way does he go?
31:29
Because it did feel very fast. I mean Night of Champions happened what
31:33
three to four weeks ago, and here we are three four weeks later and
31:37
they've you know, both turned their backs now on the Bloodline. And it
31:41
took Sammy to turn his back, it took Jimmy to turn his back for
31:45
Jay to finally wake up. As you perfectly put into place, I think
31:48
I think I would have let this play out a little bit more, Doctor
31:51
Trey. Yeah, I mean that was my thought process as well. And
31:56
you know it's almost like if I get them doing the tag match right now,
32:04
fairly Sammy's still upset about the Bloodline breaking up, but yeah, to
32:07
me, like, if you you have to get like the way they played
32:10
out either makes Jay look dumb or it makes Jimmy's turn look not as good
32:17
because you want of those faces. I mean, if they came back intod
32:21
Jay Roman and Solo against Jimmy, Kevin and Sammy, I think the fans
32:24
were then on board of that. And then once again then you got Jimmy
32:30
and Sammy pleading with Jay to see the lights and maybe that would works as
32:34
well. My question then becomes, if you do the tag match? Now,
32:38
do you do Jay and Roman at Summer Slam? And is that really
32:42
a Summer Slam main event? Despite the great build of the single on how
32:46
much we appreciate what Jay USO's doing. Does you know if you were buying
32:52
the pay per view and that was your main event? Was somebody buy that
32:53
pay per view that doesn't hasn't maybe watched the entire storyline. That's true,
32:59
You're gonna hit we for do this, and we may have to add it
33:01
towards a list of things that may be banned here. But I'm wondering if
33:06
things were rushed a little bit because they have a bigger name set to take
33:10
on Roman Reigns for Summer Slam. It's possible. Do you know what name
33:15
I'm going to allude to? Does he does he use a lot of initials?
33:21
Does he use a lot of initials? Move? No? Maybe not?
33:25
Okay, I was going with Randy, with Randy order no, no,
33:29
no, I'm thinking in the family, keeping in the family, that
33:31
the Rock hasn't come in and settled the feud yes, I have been obviously
33:36
at nausea and pushing this for I don't know, two years now, because
33:40
you know, when you think about it, like SummerSlam twenty twenty two to
33:45
Royal Rumble, you could see the slow build of Sammy starting to turn away
33:52
from the bloodline. That was about eight weeks from WrestleMania thirty nine to Night
34:00
of Champions was another like six to eight weeks where Jimmy and Jay were really
34:05
pushed. You know, they were not having the tag team title match,
34:08
they were getting you know, yelled at by Roman and all this stuff heading
34:14
into that turn this turn again, and I think you said it perfectly.
34:19
It was like a three week turnaround for Jay and I'm like, man,
34:22
this is not something they've been doing this for storyline. Everything's been a slow
34:25
burn and it just makes you wonder and I'm going to say the Rock,
34:29
but you know, doctor Trey said, maybe Randy Oran, But I mean
34:34
maybe they have just a bigger name set for Roman reigns. And they're kind
34:37
of shotgun in this a little bit because this storyline has been so perfect and
34:42
it's been nothing but slow burns that this just and maybe w crative would make
34:47
the case, like, well, the slowburn has been for three years with
34:50
ju so since this started. But nonetheless I just felt like, I don't
34:53
know, just feels like it feels like something's missing, Like I don't know,
34:59
I just feel like it's it's really quick. Yeah, I agree,
35:04
So, I don't know. Maybe the USO's turned towards their most electrifying cousin
35:07
and we get Roman and Rock. It's it's interesting. It's interesting. I
35:14
think I would have done Jimmy versus Roman for for Money in the Bank with
35:16
the title online and continue to play this a little bit more with Jay Uso,
35:21
so we'll see. It was still great pop cool moment. I love
35:24
the usos, love the bloodline, love the bloodline storyline. Um, it's
35:29
been great. Is there any part of you, doctor Trede, that's like
35:31
kind of upset that we're seeing this stable fall apart. I mean, this
35:35
was your altogether your SRT Wrestler of the Year for for twenty twenty two.
35:40
Yeah, it's it's weird in the sense of seeing it Corona, but what
35:45
we've seen it with other some of the other great Stables degeneration acts, you
35:49
know, the Ministry, your Ministry, corporate ministry things like that, we've
35:52
seen him. You know, they rise and they fall. Um. But
35:57
it's it's just I suppose you were like, I hope you have something on
36:00
the back end of this, you know, kind of in place, like,
36:02
hey, we're gonna run this storyline coming out of Summer's Lam with you
36:07
know, something like this would be to keep it compelling, because it's been
36:09
musty TV for the better part of you know, a little over a year
36:13
now with the Bloodline and the inner workings and everything else. It was funny
36:17
because I like, we go back to shoot seven years ago when the when
36:22
the first in the Bloodline name was first mentioned on TV, and I remember
36:27
sitting here watching you we actually had a group of Athens Pro Wrestling called the
36:31
Bloodline and similar family tree to look to it everything else, I'm like,
36:36
yeah, but just to kind of see this whole thing play out has been
36:40
great television. I just hope you have something on the back end kind of
36:43
already in place where hey, when this kind of rolls the way and shuts
36:46
down, we're kicking this storyline and it should be compelling TV as well.
36:51
So keep me keeping an eye on this storyline heading into money in the Bank
36:54
just a couple of weeks away. We'll preven predict money in the Bank on
36:57
next week's edition of SRT. You. Speaking of previewing predictions, we will
37:01
preview predict all Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling presents fourbidd Indoor two this
37:07
Sunday from the Scotia Bank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Full disclosure
37:13
again, there are four matches that have been announced by the time we're recording
37:16
this podcast. I'm sure more match has been announced on aw Dynamite. Possibly
37:20
they've been announced on social media by the time that you're listening to this podcast.
37:23
Obviously, in a couple of weeks, when we recap and review this
37:27
show, we will go through everything here. But we only have four matches
37:30
that we can actually predict heading into Four Bidden Door right now, Ray,
37:35
So let's get to the first one. Kenny Omega defends the IWGP United States
37:38
Championship against Will Osprey. I'll start here. I think this is Will Osprey's
37:43
opportunity to win the championship and get the victory over Kenny Omega. On I
37:49
believe last week's show, I thought that they were they already done a trio
37:53
of matches. This would be match number two coming off of Wrestling Kingdom and
37:57
the rumors that they'll have their third match at all In in Wembley Stadium in
38:01
the UK. So for this one, I think Will Osprey wins. It's
38:05
tied one one and you have that third match at all In in Wembley Stadium,
38:08
So I think Will Osprey leaves with the IWGP United States Championship. No,
38:14
and I'm with you. I think this is Osprey's Shay has to really
38:16
shine on American TV. We've seen glimpses of it, but big stage.
38:22
Plus you know we saw Forbidden mcdoor one. It can be at all aw
38:28
sweep, it can't be a New Japan Sweeps. So we gotta go a
38:30
little bit back and forth here, So I'll take Osprey getting the win as
38:32
well. Next match here is one of the dream matches that I've been looking
38:37
forward to for some time. It's Bryan Danielson taking on Kaza Chica Okada Doctor
38:42
Trey. Who do you like in this one? This one a little trickier
38:45
for me, so I'm leaning Brian Danielson just because once again is a even
38:52
though it's co promoted, it's still basically an aw event, So I will
38:55
take Danielson getting the win over Okada. I'm gonna take Okada getting the victory
39:02
over Danielson, and it's because Okada, I don't he hasn't been book great.
39:07
When he's on an all elite wrestling programming, he typically takes the l
39:10
which is surprising. He tries to go for the Rainmaker about thirteen hundred times
39:15
and they reverse it every single time. So I'm gonna go with Okada getting
39:20
the victory over Danielson and really really really looking forward to this one on Sunday
39:25
evenings as these two go at it. Next match here is Sonata to defending
39:31
the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Jungle Boy Jack Perry. I have been very
39:37
critical of Jungle Boy Jack Perry for some time. This is not the man
39:42
that I thought should get this IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match. I have been
39:45
a big fan of Sonata for a long time. I'm happy that he's gotten
39:49
an opportunity to become the world champion over New Japan. Right now, with
39:52
that said, I think Sonata gets the victory. You have hook in the
39:55
corner of Jungle Boy. I think a Jungle Boy and Hook feud. We'll
40:00
be taking us into the summer. I just think a heel turn is coming
40:04
for Jack Perry, so I'm going to take Snata to retain if Jungle Boy.
40:07
I thought about this watching Collision. If Jungle Boy turns heels, is
40:10
he in a back with pushing page and Lucha stores. That would be weird,
40:15
right, But I guess it's possible. I mean, he was wearing
40:17
the black leather jacket, and I'm like, well, I mean, Lucha's
40:20
wearing all black and Cage wears all black. Maybe it makes sense. But
40:23
you know, with this match, I really like Sonata. I've been hard
40:27
on Jungle Boy for a while as well. I'm gonna take Sanata getting to
40:30
win just because it feels i mean, on paper, you're looking all these
40:34
other great matches and these rumored matches and everything else, and I'm like,
40:37
this one just kind of seems out of place, Like it's not really like
40:42
I wouldn't put Jungle Boy on my top eight challengers in the world, so
40:45
I don't, even though he just had telling me had a match for its
40:49
and it just feels like, well, the crowd is really no Sanada,
40:52
but they know Jungle Boys. Let's put them in there together. Yeah.
40:54
I think this is one of those cases where Tony Khan and AW Creative love
40:59
Jungle Boy. I mean they may not actually be listening to the fans right
41:01
now by pushing him in this match, or it's they are listening to the
41:06
fans and they're ready to turn him hell coming out of this one. I
41:07
agree with you. I just I didn't think he should be the challenger for
41:10
the IWGP worldI Wing Championship. But we're here, we are here, we
41:15
are folks. And then finally, the only other match now it is MJF
41:17
defending the AW World Championship against Hiroshi Tanahashi. As MJF has said in the
41:23
past, he does not want to wrestle at Forbidden Door. He said in
41:27
his promo that he will not be participating in this match. Nonetheless, I
41:30
feel like the Russling fan and real life MJFF is absolutely loving that he's going
41:36
to be in a match with Hiroshi Tanahashi. Should be a fun one,
41:39
Doctor Trey, Who do you like this one? MJF or Hiroshi Tanahashi?
41:44
Uh? This is kind of me. I feel like Tanahashi takes a lot
41:46
of defeats like you're basually like Okata, I just kind of like Tanahashi.
41:51
He's one of those guys that makes the AWA guys look good and then you
41:54
know, loses in the end. So I'm taking MJF once again just because
41:59
I don't think, Yeah, I just don't see any title belts really moving,
42:05
you know, in the single division on the show. So I'm gonna
42:07
take MJF retaining the aw World title. Yeah, I can't see Hiroshi Tanahashi
42:12
being the one to dethrow an MGF turn this title reign, So I'm gonna
42:15
take MJF getting the victory as well, and I think it's gonna be a
42:17
very fun match to watch. So four matches that have only been announce so
42:21
far for Forbidden Door. As Doctor Trey and I record this week's edition the
42:23
podcast, we will recap and review Forbidden Door in two weeks once I get
42:30
back from all the wedding festivities. But never fear, everything that we're gonna
42:35
be doing over the next couple of weeks will still be regular programming for all
42:38
of you, maybe slightly outdated, which we'll talk about that schedule momentarily.
42:44
But with that said, let's get a couple of plugs and sponsors out of
