- 0:00Speaker 1: Time out for back to the Basics and healthcare with
- 0:01Speaker 1: Balance life Chiropractic and happy birthday to you real soon
- 0:05Speaker 1: when is your your company's birthday?
- 0:06Speaker 2: Is like sneaking right up, isn't it?
- 0:08Speaker 3: Yeah, we turned five on the eighth of September.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Here, So does it feel like five years to you?
- 0:14Speaker 3: Sometimes?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Yes?
- 0:15Speaker 3: Sometimes now, Sometimes I feel like it's gone by so fast,
- 0:17Speaker 3: And other times I'm like, wait, how did five years
- 0:20Speaker 3: already go by? Like it seems like it was just yesterday.
- 0:22Speaker 3: We opened?
- 0:23Speaker 1: And think about five years ago was like twenty twenty,
- 0:26Speaker 1: and a lot of people remember all kinds of things
- 0:28Speaker 1: from that year. You guys were getting ready to open
- 0:30Speaker 1: a business. How different was that in twenty twenty, right?
- 0:34Speaker 3: I mean it was definitely a whirlwind when I think
- 0:36Speaker 3: back to twenty twenty for us, because I graduated carero
- 0:39Speaker 3: Practice School in February twenty February twenty eighth of twenty twenty.
- 0:43Speaker 2: That was like two weeks before the pandemic came, right, right.
- 0:45Speaker 3: We moved to Sioux Falls March first, and then yeah,
- 0:48Speaker 3: two weeks later the world shot down. Meanwhile, like we're
- 0:51Speaker 3: getting all our systems and procedures ready, We're still looking
- 0:54Speaker 3: at going ahead with getting an office started, you know,
- 0:57Speaker 3: so it was a lot of applying for SBA loans,
- 1:00Speaker 3: which you know, they were doing the PPP loans at
- 1:02Speaker 3: that time. So everything just kind of got slowed down
- 1:05Speaker 3: in our business starting. And it wasn't like we just
- 1:08Speaker 3: decided to do this on a spur. We've had been
- 1:11Speaker 3: working on it while I was in chiropractice school leading
- 1:14Speaker 3: up to graduating. And then it was you know, doing
- 1:16Speaker 3: all of the shopping for a location.
- 1:20Speaker 2: And what was that process like and how did you
- 1:23Speaker 2: end up here?
- 1:23Speaker 1: I love where you're located, but was there did you
- 1:25Speaker 1: have a bunch of locations you'd looked at?
- 1:27Speaker 3: We looked at our realtor, so we worked with business
- 1:30Speaker 3: realtor and he showed us, you know, based on their
- 1:33Speaker 3: algorithms and stuff like that, they're like, these would be
- 1:35Speaker 3: some good spots and kind of the the thing that
- 1:38Speaker 3: they looked at was close to a major highway or
- 1:41Speaker 3: interstate system. So Check or right off of I twenty
- 1:44Speaker 3: nine by Walmart or Target, or like a bigger shopping center.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Check Walmart and Home Depot and Sam's Club are right
- 1:52Speaker 3: by us. And that just it means that people are
- 1:54Speaker 3: gonna be coming to your office area, not just for
- 1:58Speaker 3: the chiropractor, but also so they can do as they're
- 2:00Speaker 3: not having to make a trip out of their way
- 2:02Speaker 3: home necessarily. I do have some patients that do. They
- 2:05Speaker 3: do have to drive across town, but they like it
- 2:07Speaker 3: so much that they, you know, they're willing.
- 2:09Speaker 2: To know, of course they do.
- 2:11Speaker 3: So, I mean there's just being in an area that
- 2:13Speaker 3: people want to go to, Versus if you're kind of
- 2:15Speaker 3: in the middle of nowhere in a weird spot, it's like,
- 2:18Speaker 3: I don't really want to go all the way over
- 2:20Speaker 3: to that area. So yeah, no, that definitely helps with
- 2:23Speaker 3: you know, just making patients lives easier as they can
- 2:24Speaker 3: pick up some groceries on their way home.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Did you look at a bunch of different places or
- 2:28Speaker 1: was this kind of you walked in and go this
- 2:30Speaker 1: is the one.
- 2:30Speaker 3: I want to say, we looked at three or four
- 2:34Speaker 3: other places. There was one other spot over off a
- 2:37Speaker 3: tenth Street that we looked at. It was right across
- 2:39Speaker 3: tiv on Tenth Street on the east side that we
- 2:42Speaker 3: looked at, and we had, you know, actually started building
- 2:45Speaker 3: like a layout and stuff. But it was just gonna
- 2:46Speaker 3: be a lot more work because it's a little bit
- 2:48Speaker 3: older space, so they had to they would have to
- 2:50Speaker 3: completely gut all the electrical and redo it where this
- 2:53Speaker 3: was one of the few spaces that we looked at
- 2:55Speaker 3: that was a completely blank canvas.
- 2:57Speaker 2: So this was just dirt Floriete, wasn't it.
- 3:00Speaker 3: I it was concrete concrete because this used to be
- 3:03Speaker 3: the old Galaxy Gaming location. So where our office is
- 3:05Speaker 3: at is Laser Tag where the Laser Tag part was.
- 3:08Speaker 1: That's right, Yeah, Well you got a space next door
- 3:11Speaker 1: that's still open if people want to move in, they
- 3:12Speaker 1: could be your neighbors.
- 3:13Speaker 2: And all sides of us.
- 3:14Speaker 3: We have empty spaces on both sides and them been
- 3:16Speaker 3: trying to fill those for a while.
- 3:18Speaker 1: And then people are like, well it has to be
- 3:19Speaker 1: a neighbors with a chiropractor and all the noise that
- 3:22Speaker 1: comes from that place.
- 3:23Speaker 3: We're pretty quiet.
- 3:24Speaker 1: I would say it's just made its whining when you're oh,
- 3:27Speaker 1: you're my back is sore. No I whine on my
- 3:30Speaker 1: way and I sound good on my way out. So now,
- 3:33Speaker 1: what are in the last five years? Are there things
- 3:35Speaker 1: that were surprising to you?
- 3:36Speaker 2: Where you go?
- 3:37Speaker 1: I was not expecting this, but this is a neat,
- 3:39Speaker 1: happy thing that happened.
- 3:41Speaker 3: I would say kind of the ups and downs, you know,
- 3:43Speaker 3: especially like the economy post COVID, but also people were
- 3:47Speaker 3: it was like kind of the economy finances, but then
- 3:49Speaker 3: people also are being smarter with their finances and putting
- 3:53Speaker 3: more money into their health than they were before, so
- 3:55Speaker 3: focusing more on their health. So it was kind of
- 3:58Speaker 3: a twofold People were cautious with starting care because of
- 4:02Speaker 3: you know, the financing and whatnot or insurance and stuff
- 4:05Speaker 3: like that, but also wanting to see chiropractors more because
- 4:08Speaker 3: they know it's going to help them with their health
- 4:10Speaker 3: and keep them healthier, especially you know, the scare of
- 4:13Speaker 3: being sick with COVID and all of that that came
- 4:15Speaker 3: with it.
- 4:16Speaker 1: As we approach your fifth anniversary, if you had to
- 4:19Speaker 1: do it all over again, would you do it all
- 4:21Speaker 1: over again?
- 4:21Speaker 3: Yeah, it depends on the day. You're asking me today,
- 4:24Speaker 3: I'm asking you today. No, today, you definitely it's been
- 4:26Speaker 3: a fun ride. It's been crazy over five years of
- 4:30Speaker 3: just it seems like it was just yesterday, and it's
- 4:34Speaker 3: definitely a lot, but it's a lot of love.
- 4:36Speaker 2: You know.
- 4:37Speaker 3: We love our patients. Our patients love coming into this
- 4:38Speaker 3: so that always makes that's the best part of the
- 4:40Speaker 3: day is when patients are excited to see you or
- 4:43Speaker 3: you know, we really help someone get through a hurdle
- 4:46Speaker 3: in their health that they were having, or giving hope
- 4:49Speaker 3: to people that didn't know that they could actually get better.
- 4:52Speaker 2: And the thing's nice.
- 4:53Speaker 1: You have a really good system, so there's not a
- 4:55Speaker 1: lot of overlap when I come in other than when
- 4:57Speaker 1: I show up either way earlier, way late. And when
- 5:00Speaker 1: we have had a chance to meet other people here,
- 5:02Speaker 1: they've always seemed to be really great people who love
- 5:04Speaker 1: you guys.
- 5:04Speaker 2: So that's a good thing.
- 5:05Speaker 3: I love that. Yeah, it kind of feaster fantom. Sometimes
- 5:08Speaker 3: it's really busy and you when you come in sometimes
- 5:10Speaker 3: you might be the only one for a little bit.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Just kind depends on the time of the day.
- 5:13Speaker 1: If somebody listening is going I am looking for a
- 5:15Speaker 1: chiropractor and I would like Balance Life Chiropractice to be
- 5:18Speaker 1: my chiropractor. How do they get in on this whole
- 5:20Speaker 1: five years of awesomeness.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Yeah, so they can give us a phone call as
- 5:24Speaker 3: simple as that. Our phone number is six or five
