- 0:01Jim Clouk, a.k.a. Checker Pro Joe, here on Checker Pro Radio.
- 0:05A question that comes up in home improvement in general is, how much is it going to cost, Mr.
- 0:12Contractor? And I have brought a contractor into the show today.
- 0:17His name is Kevin Lips. Kevin, how are you?
- 0:20I'm doing great, Jim. Looking forward to the conversation. It's great to have you here.
- 0:24Lips Electric, love you guys so much. This is a question, like I said,
- 0:28that I hear all the time, whether it's a roofer, a plumber, HVAC, or electric.
- 0:35You probably hear this all the time, too, because people can be price sensitive.
- 0:39But I always suggest it's not the price, it's the value.
- 0:44What are you getting for the price?
- 0:47So how do we answer this question? How much will it cost?
- 0:51I think it's a great question. and we get it every day and depending on how
- 0:56people appreciate or hear our answer, we do lose some calls, but we do go the most.
- 1:03So we do believe in being very transparent up front with our pricing with no surprises.
- 1:08We do require a service visit though. And with that, we do charge $79 to come out.
- 1:15Yeah. And $79 in case those of you who are listening and watching to this, it's that's not a lot.
- 1:25That's going to be, I would think, more on the lower end for a qualified,
- 1:33licensed, insured, trained electrical technician. You're not a handyman.
- 1:39You're not a house painter. You guys have to play by certain rules.
- 1:45The average contractor doesn't.
- 1:48Meaning when you're in HVAC, plumbing, electrical.
- 1:51There's a few that have pest control. There's a few where you actually have
- 1:55to follow rules that the government sets.
- 2:00Correct. Yeah. Yes. A hundred percent. And so that costs money.
- 2:04A lot of people say, why does it cost so much to have an electrician come out to my home?
- 2:09Well, why does it cost so much to go see a doctor or have, you know,
- 2:14surgery or an operation?
- 2:15Because it's the, it's the training and the safety. You don't want your house to burn down.
- 2:21You don't want to get shocked or, God forbid, electrocuted, die.
- 2:25And so you guys are trained, licensed, and insured.
- 2:30So that's not a lot of money. Once you're at the house, you probably hear that a lot.
- 2:36There's a problem. Maybe there's an outlet that doesn't work.
- 2:40So that question comes up and the answer is we'll have to diagnose it first.
- 2:45Yeah, so we do. So, well, that service fee does include and 45-minute diagnosis
- 2:52for whatever reason you called us out there.
- 2:54So if it's an outlet or had a ceiling fan or you want a new circuit for a new
- 2:57electrical vehicle you purchased, for whatever you called us out there for.
- 3:02And it also includes a visual safety inspection. So one of our requirements
- 3:06is for all of our service technicians to understand where the power source is,
- 3:11which is your panel, and do an inspection of it.
- 3:14And they will pull the panel off and do a quick visual to make sure everything
- 3:17is to code. But mainly I need my guys to be able to turn off the power for whatever
- 3:21they're going to work on for you.
- 3:23So, but the other thing to add
- 3:25on that $79, the last thing I want to do is collect $79 from customers.
- 3:30If that's all I did every day, we would be out of business really fast.
- 3:33So it is important to know that this fee is waived when the customers choose any of our options.
- 3:42Yeah, and that's great. That's a sign of a really great company when you waive that fee.
- 3:48Can you quote anything over the phone or does it always have to be a diagnostic?
- 3:53We'll look at it and then tell you. Yeah. It's if you call my CSR,
- 3:58they're going to tell you we have to come on out, you know, and that's generally
- 4:03for any home service item because it is custom.
- 4:07It is not always as simple as my outlet's not working because that outlet is
- 4:13part of a system and that outlet's tied to wires and those wires go to different
- 4:17boxes and different devices.
- 4:18And it goes back to the panel, which is connected to the breaker.
- 4:22And that panel is connected to the, ultimately the utility.
- 4:26And we do give a lot of options.
- 4:30So it's like, if you call me just for one outlet, we're going to give you five
- 4:34outlets to repair or make new.
- 4:37And it goes from the single most basic repair up to the absolutely no excuses,
- 4:42best peace of mind and brand new option.
- 4:46And that's what we kind of guide the customer where they're at from what we see on site.
- 4:54That's a sign of a great company, everybody. One that's not going to guess what
- 5:00it's going to cost over the phone or in a chat or any of the type of electronic communication.
- 5:08It's best to have a licensed insured trained technician come out to your home.
- 5:15Just like if you called your doctor.
- 5:17Hey, doc, I think I need a hip replacement. What's it going to cost?
- 5:23Well, first of all, let's see if you need a new hip. Come on in, right?
- 5:28And we'll start looking at things. And then we'll write something up.
- 5:32And that's how it should work in home service as well.
- 5:35And the difference with us, though, is the doctor won't even tell you at all
- 5:39what it's going to cost you until the bills show up.
- 5:41And then also get bills from three other different things for the same thing.
- 5:44But we'll give you that price before we start any work.
- 5:47Yeah. Kevin, as always, thank you so much for joining me here on the program.
