- 1:19Speaker 1: Brad Logan expected to join us around 815. We'll talk
- 1:22Speaker 1: Ole Miss as they get ready to take on Missouri State.
- 1:25Speaker 2: And more. So let's get right to it.
- 1:27Speaker 1: As we go through today, some of this stuff we
- 1:29Speaker 1: went through on my show today. But I want to
- 1:32Speaker 1: go back through some of this as we get rolling here.
- 1:35Speaker 1: First thing I want to do is get into my
- 1:38Speaker 1: SEC eyeball test rankings, courtesy of me and nobody else.
- 1:42Speaker 2: We'll say my bookie. How about that? Let me go
- 1:44Speaker 2: ahead and tell you this.
- 1:45Speaker 1: The eyeball test is basically my rankings week to week
- 1:47Speaker 1: that we do. And I'm going to pull these rankings
- 1:50Speaker 1: in as the eyeball test.
- 1:52Speaker 2: It's no analytics. It's just an eyeball test.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Let's take a look at that today.
- 1:55Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Based off the weekend that was, Georgia is no doubt,
- 1:59Speaker 1: I think, the best team in the SEC. They're the
- 2:01Speaker 1: best team in the country. I think Alabama is the
- 2:04Speaker 1: number two team in the SEC. I think both of
- 2:06Speaker 1: those two teams are going to play in the college
- 2:08Speaker 1: football playoff. After that, I think it's up for grabs
- 2:11Speaker 1: on does the SEC get three, four, five teams in
- 2:15Speaker 1: the SEC.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Into the college football playoff.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Kentucky, I like. Kentucky sits well. At number three in
- 2:22Speaker 1: my rankings for the eyeball test, Mississippi State.
- 2:25Speaker 2: And Ole Miss right there are four or five.
- 2:27Speaker 1: You look at Missouri at number six, Oklahoma and Texas
- 2:31Speaker 1: after the weekend, number seven and eight. And then I've
- 2:34Speaker 1: got Tennessee, LSU, Mississippi State's opponent we'll get into in
- 2:37Speaker 1: just a bit with Robbie Falk. And then I've got Auburn,
- 2:40Speaker 1: South Carolina, Florida. It is a smorgasbord in the league
- 2:44Speaker 1: as we kind of move through. And, of course, it's
- 2:46Speaker 1: only going to get worse as we go through, and
- 2:49Speaker 1: I say worse, the carnage. it's only going to get
- 2:52Speaker 1: worse as we move.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Through the week.
- 2:54Speaker 1: So that's my eyeball test for the weekend. And again,
- 2:57Speaker 1: you can check that out. I've shared that on X
- 2:59Speaker 1: and more. Let's go ahead and bring in Robbie Falk
- 3:01Speaker 1: to the stream, who's always kind enough to give us
- 3:03Speaker 1: some time.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Robbie, welcome in, brother.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I appreciate your time tonight as.
- 3:07Speaker 2: We move along here.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Man, I tell you what, when you look at the
- 3:10Speaker 1: carnage of the SEC, just kind of going through what
- 3:12Speaker 1: I call the eyeball test, and that's just, hey, no analytics,
- 3:15Speaker 1: just what you see.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Over the weekend.
- 3:17Speaker 1: The SEC really starting to cannibalize itself.
- 3:19Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, people are, going through injuries and you
- 3:24Speaker 4: know it's just an absolute blood fest every single week
- 3:28Speaker 4: this is what you signed up for when you um
- 3:32Speaker 4: just stupidly went to nine sec games there was absolutely
- 3:37Speaker 4: no reason to do that they were basically um conned
- 3:42Speaker 4: into adding another conference game by other conferences that said
- 3:45Speaker 4: they didn't play anybody and they very stupidly went and
- 3:49Speaker 4: scheduled another SEC game which is only going to make
- 3:51Speaker 4: it tougher for this conference to go win national championships
- 3:55Speaker 4: and we're seeing that right now I mean the we're
- 3:58Speaker 4: five weeks into the season and we've got quarterbacks that
- 4:02Speaker 4: are uh you know out for multiple weeks which I
- 4:05Speaker 4: mean this isn't a SEC thing I mean um you
- 4:08Speaker 4: know UCLA's quarterbacks out for the rest of the season
- 4:11Speaker 4: and You know, we've seen other quarterbacks, I think Iowa's quarterbacks,
- 4:15Speaker 4: out for a little bit. I mean, this is just
- 4:17Speaker 4: college football. It's, like I say every week, it's like
- 4:20Speaker 4: walking around landmines. And it's, you know, crapshoot whether or
- 4:24Speaker 4: not you're going to be able to be healthy. And
- 4:27Speaker 4: we're seeing teams around the SEC. Alabama's got a ton
- 4:30Speaker 4: of injuries. LSU's got a ton of injuries. Mississippi State
- 4:33Speaker 4: has a ton of injuries. It is just a gauntlet.
- 4:37Speaker 4: And it wears you down, man, mentally, physically, mentally. Everything–
- 4:41Speaker 4: it's good for you. It makes the team tougher. But
- 4:46Speaker 4: at the same time, by the end of the year,
- 4:48Speaker 4: I mean, what does that mean for all these teams?
- 4:51Speaker 4: Are they able to stay healthy? So, yeah, it's kind
- 4:54Speaker 4: of crazy. We're only five, six weeks into this thing,
- 4:57Speaker 4: and we're already seeing people get decimated.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:01Speaker 2: And you're absolutely correct.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Before we get into Mississippi State and LSU this weekend,
- 5:05Speaker 1: I wanted your thoughts on– Mike Elko, because, you know,
- 5:09Speaker 1: you've been around this business a long time. You've run sites.
- 5:12Speaker 1: You've got a site now with State 1878. We know
- 5:15Speaker 1: that social media isn't real per se, but I think
- 5:19Speaker 1: when you start turning into message boards and subscribers and
- 5:23Speaker 1: you know about Texags and how big it is, Mike Elko, bad,
- 5:28Speaker 1: bad idea to go after Texags over the weekend, wasn't it?
- 5:31Speaker 4: That was the wrong place to attack.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:35Speaker 4: You know, if you want to go after– I mean,
- 5:37Speaker 4: no offense to our buddies that own three or two, four, seven,
- 5:40Speaker 4: but if you want to go after them, that's one thing.
- 5:44Speaker 4: Once you start going after Texags, which has been probably
- 5:47Speaker 4: the friendliest fan site to a school that there is,
- 5:53Speaker 4: you know, I don't understand the process there by Mike Ilko.
- 5:59Speaker 4: I mean, that is signing a death note. And I,
- 6:04Speaker 4: you know, I felt like when Mike Elko was hired,
- 6:06Speaker 4: I remember coming out on Twitter when they were talking
- 6:10Speaker 4: about going and getting Mark Stoops and that whole debacle
- 6:14Speaker 4: from the beginning, I thought Texas A & M should
- 6:17Speaker 4: have hired Mike Elko immediately. And so I think that
- 6:22Speaker 4: he was a great fit and he's done a good
- 6:25Speaker 4: job there. You know, last year, I think they were
- 6:27Speaker 4: benefit of their schedule and they probably weren't as good
- 6:30Speaker 4: as their schedule suggested. And This year we're starting to
- 6:33Speaker 4: see Texas A & M be Texas A & M.
- 6:36Speaker 4: But now you've kind of planted a seed here that's
- 6:40Speaker 4: never going to go away. He's never going to be
- 6:43Speaker 4: able to erase what he said, and now they're going
- 6:46Speaker 4: to know his true feelings. So when he's losing ballgames
- 6:50Speaker 4: and he's not performing to the expectations that he's paid
- 6:54Speaker 4: to perform, it's just going to be an absolute disaster
- 6:59Speaker 4: for him. I don't know what it is about that place. Jake,
- 7:02Speaker 4: but they can't succeed. They just can't. I mean, it's
- 7:07Speaker 4: the culture there. It's the– I don't know what it is,
- 7:11Speaker 4: but they have as much money as anybody in America,
- 7:15Speaker 4: and they've done nothing. I mean, they've literally done nothing.
- 7:18Speaker 4: Last year was the first time they did anything of substance.
- 7:21Speaker 4: They were in the playoffs. They got ran off their
- 7:22Speaker 4: own field. At the end of the day, they didn't
- 7:24Speaker 4: really do anything at all. They didn't play for an
- 7:26Speaker 4: SEC championship. They've won nothing. in their entire existence, and
- 7:31Speaker 4: they have more money than anybody, something is wrong there.
- 7:35Speaker 4: Something within the culture, something in the administration. I don't
- 7:40Speaker 4: know what it is, but I do know my favorite
- 7:42Speaker 4: thing that happens every single year is someone taking the
- 7:47Speaker 4: record of Kevin Sumlin and comparing it to Jimbo Fisher,
- 7:52Speaker 4: Mike Yoko, and Kevin Sumlin wins every time. Kevin Sumlin
- 7:56Speaker 4: has a better record than all of these people.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Yeah, as a matter of fact, that came out over
- 8:00Speaker 1: the weekend again, and it's always out there, like you said.
- 8:03Speaker 1: And Kevin Sumlin, at this very stage of Mike Elko's career,
- 8:07Speaker 1: was three games better than Mike Elko.
- 8:10Speaker 2: And if you go back and look, I.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Think somebody put it out the other day, if you
- 8:13Speaker 1: took Kevin Sumlin and the winning clip that he was at,
- 8:17Speaker 1: and you kept him at that trajectory over the time,
- 8:20Speaker 1: even to today, they would have saved like $ 160 million,
- 8:23Speaker 1: and they would be like four games better than what
- 8:25Speaker 1: they are now.
- 8:27Speaker 4: I mean, he was perfectly fine. I mean, he was
- 8:29Speaker 4: not a great coach, but he's performing to the expectations
- 8:35Speaker 4: of what they perform. Jimbo Fisher was the same way.
- 8:38Speaker 4: The money that they have wasted on players and coaches
- 8:43Speaker 4: could help a third-world country become sustainable. I mean, it's sad.
- 8:50Speaker 4: It's really sad to watch. but that's just where they are.
- 8:55Speaker 4: I mean, they blew up an entire stadium and rebuilt
- 8:58Speaker 4: it in, like, a few months. Like, it's just crazy
- 9:01Speaker 4: the type of money that they have, and they cannot
- 9:03Speaker 4: do anything of substance.
- 9:05Speaker 3: No, you're right.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Speaking of doing anything of substance, Mississippi State is headed
- 9:09Speaker 1: down to Baton Rouge after an off week. Everybody's wondering, hey,
- 9:13Speaker 1: Kamario Taylor, Kamario Taylor. I don't know that we're going
- 9:15Speaker 1: to know this until they break huddle on Saturday.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I really don't. And it's been talked about for
- 9:21Speaker 4: two weeks. I mean, we learned– Pete Thamel's getting his
- 9:25Speaker 4: report retweeted. Nothing of substance came from that. We knew
- 9:30Speaker 4: that he was questionable, that there was really nothing. It's
- 9:34Speaker 4: kind of up in the air at this point. I
- 9:35Speaker 4: was actually kind of maybe surprised in the word, but
- 9:41Speaker 4: I was, I guess, a little more upbeat about this
- 9:47Speaker 4: situation after hearing Jeff Webby talk about it on Monday.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Uh.
- 9:52Speaker 4: it seemed like to me that he's a little more
- 9:56Speaker 4: day-to-day than people think that he does have a chance
- 9:59Speaker 4: to play this week they're preparing for him to play
- 10:02Speaker 4: this week the question is like we talked about last
- 10:04Speaker 4: week like do you want to put him in that
- 10:08Speaker 4: situation and risk him getting further injured do you rest
- 10:13Speaker 4: him And, you know, I don't think that you go
- 10:17Speaker 4: into this game thinking that you're punting this ballgame, but,
- 10:21Speaker 4: I mean, essentially when you take that type of player out,
- 10:24Speaker 4: you know, there are questions as to whether or not
- 10:26Speaker 4: how you can compete in this ballgame against a really
- 10:30Speaker 4: talented LSU team in that environment. But the question to
- 10:34Speaker 4: me is just how severe is this injury? That's what
- 10:37Speaker 4: I want to know. And I just don't know. I mean,
- 10:40Speaker 4: it's been kept under wraps how severe this thing actually is.
- 10:45Speaker 4: There's been, if you read your favorite message board, it's
- 10:49Speaker 4: gone from, hey, he's fine to we might have to amputate.
- 10:54Speaker 4: That's kind of like the range of reports that we're
- 10:58Speaker 4: getting from somebody's ex-husband's second cousin twice removed boss. That's
- 11:05Speaker 4: where the information is coming from. It just is one
- 11:09Speaker 4: of those deals where you can't get too upset about
- 11:11Speaker 4: it or worry about it too much. We're not going
- 11:13Speaker 4: to get any information out of Jeff Lebby about it.
- 11:16Speaker 4: The Wednesday report is probably going to say questionable or
- 11:21Speaker 4: doubtful or something of that nature. By Saturday, we'll know
- 11:26Speaker 4: if he's going to play. To me, the big thing
- 11:29Speaker 4: is just talking about Billy Puckett at this point. If
- 11:33Speaker 4: that's your guy on Saturday, how can Billy Puckett put
- 11:37Speaker 4: Mississippi State in position to go win? That's kind of
- 11:40Speaker 4: what you're looking for at this point. And then if
- 11:42Speaker 4: you have Camario, then that obviously changes the conversation a
- 11:46Speaker 4: little bit.
- 11:47Speaker 1: So for those that may not be familiar with Billy Puckett,
- 11:49Speaker 1: what can you tell us about him? And I remember
- 11:51Speaker 1: when he was at Jackson Prep, I believe it was
- 11:52Speaker 1: Jackson Prep, hard-nosed kid.
- 11:55Speaker 2: He was a winner.
- 11:56Speaker 1: And I think kind of take us through his story
- 11:58Speaker 1: to where he's at today.
- 12:00Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a family.
- 12:01Speaker 3: They're Bulldogs.
- 12:04Speaker 4: I believe his dream was to play for Mississippi State.
- 12:07Speaker 4: I was kind of surprised in high school that he
- 12:10Speaker 4: didn't get more offers, that he didn't get more opportunities
- 12:13Speaker 4: because I did think that he was a D1 player.
- 12:16Speaker 4: I've been a Billy Puckett fan. You go look at
- 12:22Speaker 4: his profile and you see no stars and you see
- 12:24Speaker 4: that he's a walk-on. Well, immediately the average fan is
- 12:27Speaker 4: going to say, we're screwed. We're going to have to
- 12:29Speaker 4: throw this dude out there. But the fact of the
- 12:32Speaker 4: matter is he went up against two guys that have
- 12:36Speaker 4: experience in Division I football at quarterback, and he straight
- 12:40Speaker 4: up went and won that battle for the number two spot,
- 12:43Speaker 4: and it really wasn't close. He was the guy for
- 12:46Speaker 4: Mississippi State behind Kamario Taylor, and it wasn't that those
- 12:48Speaker 4: guys were terrible, that they came in and they didn't perform.
- 12:52Speaker 4: It was that Billy was just better. If you look
- 12:56Speaker 4: at some of the social media clips during the summer
- 12:58Speaker 4: of the big plays that they were making at training
- 13:00Speaker 4: camp and making in the scrimmage, a lot of those
- 13:03Speaker 4: plays were off the arm of Billy Puckett. He can
- 13:07Speaker 4: throw it, man. He can spin it. He can run
- 13:10Speaker 4: this offense. Now, is he Kamario Taylor? Absolutely not. Am
- 13:15Speaker 4: I going to sit here and tell you if he
- 13:17Speaker 4: is starting on Saturday, the Mississippi State is going to
- 13:19Speaker 4: go to Death Valley and win? No, I cannot with
- 13:21Speaker 4: a straight face tell you that. What I can tell
- 13:24Speaker 4: you is that the staff has confidence in him. The
- 13:28Speaker 4: players around him have confidence in him. And quite frankly,
- 13:32Speaker 4: I have confidence in him that he can go out
- 13:33Speaker 4: there and run the offense and not completely fall apart.
- 13:37Speaker 4: He has the tools that he can do that. So
- 13:40Speaker 4: we'll see what happens. I'll tell you this. I mean,
- 13:41Speaker 4: he's more healthy than Kamoria right now. If you're wanting
- 13:45Speaker 4: a guy that can get out of the pocket right
- 13:46Speaker 4: now and move a little bit, He can do that.
- 13:49Speaker 4: If you are just dead set on having a guy
- 13:51Speaker 4: that can move around and escape the pocket, Billy Puckett
- 13:55Speaker 4: can do that right now. He can make some throws.
- 13:58Speaker 4: He can make throws downfield in.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Those big plays.
- 14:02Speaker 4: We'll see how it plays out. I have confidence in
- 14:06Speaker 4: him going into that situation and being able to run
- 14:09Speaker 4: the offense, but it's still concerning because he's never really
- 14:14Speaker 4: done it before on this level and especially not at
- 14:18Speaker 4: a place like death Valley. Yeah.
- 14:20Speaker 2: And the good thing is you get that game early
- 14:21Speaker 2: in the day.
- 14:22Speaker 1: It's not at night and, you know, Mississippi state is
- 14:25Speaker 1: very familiar with the quarterback. They're going to roll out
- 14:29Speaker 1: and see on Saturday played in the last two years
- 14:31Speaker 1: and Sam Levitt. So you got to like Zach Arnett's
- 14:34Speaker 1: chances and look, LSU has looked good at times, bad
- 14:37Speaker 1: at times.
- 14:38Speaker 2: You got to credit Kentucky.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I mean, they rolled up, rolled all the dice on
- 14:41Speaker 1: Saturday and they went for two and won the ball game.
- 14:43Speaker 2: But I think this is an LSU team that's reeling
- 14:46Speaker 2: just a little bit.
- 14:47Speaker 3: They are.
- 14:47Speaker 4: This is going to be Lane Kiffin's worst team. And
- 14:51Speaker 4: we can make jokes about Lane Kiffin. And, you know,
- 14:54Speaker 4: I'm sure the Ole Miss fans are loving it. And
- 14:56Speaker 4: quite frankly, most of us are loving it because we
- 15:00Speaker 4: get to see a guy that's been talking trash and
- 15:02Speaker 4: been getting away with stuff actually get some comeuppance, you know,
- 15:06Speaker 4: for once. Or for once in, you know, the every
- 15:09Speaker 4: now and then that he gets it back. But I
- 15:12Speaker 4: think this is going to be his worst team. I mean,
- 15:15Speaker 4: it would be foolish to think that he's going to
- 15:17Speaker 4: be worse moving forward. You know, the guy knows how
- 15:21Speaker 4: to run a program. He knows how to recruit, knows
- 15:23Speaker 4: how to build a roster. He's going to be better.
- 15:25Speaker 4: But this team is not where he wants it to
- 15:28Speaker 4: be yet. I mean, they don't have– I mean, Sam Leavitt,
- 15:32Speaker 4: I was kind of surprised that was their guy, especially,
- 15:35Speaker 4: you know, Lane Kiffin, because I don't– I've watched him play.
- 15:39Speaker 4: I watched him play twice against Mississippi State. Neither time
- 15:42Speaker 4: did I come away with that overly impressed. There's some
- 15:46Speaker 4: things that he can do really well. There are his strengths,
- 15:50Speaker 4: but he certainly has his weaknesses as well. And that
- 15:53Speaker 4: is holding him back a little bit in this offense.
- 15:55Speaker 4: But he's made some big-time plays too. And they have
- 16:00Speaker 4: players on that team. They are still very talented. But
- 16:05Speaker 4: they are also... right now injured and trying to fill holes,
- 16:10Speaker 4: and there's some holes they didn't fill in the transfer portal,
- 16:13Speaker 4: there's still some question marks with this team. I don't
- 16:15Speaker 4: know if State can go in there with the position
- 16:17Speaker 4: that they're in and go win that game, but I
- 16:20Speaker 4: certainly don't look at this LSU team and think national
- 16:23Speaker 4: championship contender after what we've seen the last four weeks.
- 16:28Speaker 4: First week, yeah, that looked like a team that was
- 16:31Speaker 4: real deal. But since then, it's been very up and down.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Rob, before we let you go, tell everybody about State 1878.
- 16:37Speaker 1: We wanted to come see you. It should be a
- 16:39Speaker 1: great weekend coming up. And, of course, Mississippi State with
- 16:42Speaker 1: that 2.30 ball game or 3.30 ball game next week
- 16:44Speaker 1: back at home against Oklahoma.
- 16:45Speaker 2: And we'll visit with you before then.
- 16:47Speaker 4: Yeah, we're doing some great things over there at State 1878,
- 16:49Speaker 4: so come check us out. We've got great video content, podcasts,
- 16:55Speaker 4: written content, message board component.
- 16:57Speaker 3: We're doing events.
- 16:59Speaker 4: We're going to be at the Nate Bargatze concert on Thursday,
- 17:02Speaker 4: so come see us. uh, Thursday for that event, um,
- 17:06Speaker 4: before the show. Uh, we're just really excited doing some
- 17:08Speaker 4: great things and, um, we hope that you come join us.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Yeah. And, uh, you can tell everybody, no Billy says
- 17:13Speaker 1: pool lives over at state 1878.
- 17:16Speaker 4: We have not been called out just yet by any coaches,
- 17:18Speaker 4: but we'll see how that goes.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Appreciate you, brother. Have a good week, man.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Robbie fog, eight state 1878, uh, as he is on
- 17:26Speaker 1: with us tonight. And, uh, we're going to get Brad
- 17:29Speaker 1: Logan in here momentarily as, uh, Let me tee this
- 17:33Speaker 1: up and get Brad in here. And there we go.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Brad, thank you so much. I know it's been a
- 17:37Speaker 2: busy day for you. I appreciate you, brother.
- 17:38Speaker 3: How are you? Man, I'm doing great. And I really
- 17:41Speaker 3: enjoyed that conversation with Robbie. And I'm fascinated with the
- 17:45Speaker 3: game this weekend between Mississippi State and LSU on a
- 17:49Speaker 3: number of levels. I know during Jeff Libby's press availability
- 17:51Speaker 3: this morning, he did not say that Camario would or
- 17:54Speaker 3: would not be available. He did say, wait until when
- 17:57Speaker 3: I'm sure you guys talked about it. I caught the
- 17:59Speaker 3: tail end of the conversation, wait till Wednesday to the
- 18:01Speaker 3: availability report. So I'm waiting like everybody else because with
- 18:06Speaker 3: Camario Taylor, Mississippi state's completely different team. So I'm excited
- 18:10Speaker 3: to watch that game on Saturday for sure.
- 18:12Speaker 2: There's no doubt.
- 18:13Speaker 1: I'll ask you the same question I led with Robbie because,
- 18:16Speaker 1: you know, much like Robbie, you and Ben, y'all do
- 18:19Speaker 1: a great job of the Ole Miss spirit.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Um, I'm sure you saw Mike Elko attack Texags over
- 18:24Speaker 2: the weekend. Um, That never goes well.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I know we've got social media, but message boards are
- 18:29Speaker 1: a little different because you've got people that are paying
- 18:31Speaker 1: them money. They want access. They want to be able
- 18:34Speaker 1: to chime in on their opinions. They want to get
- 18:37Speaker 1: those notes like you guys give out great notes, I'm sure,
- 18:39Speaker 1: to your subscribers on things that maybe you don't get
- 18:42Speaker 1: on a normal Facebook page or X page. How bad
- 18:46Speaker 1: of a miscalculation was that for Mike Elko to attack
- 18:49Speaker 1: Texags over the weekend?
- 18:51Speaker 3: Well, anytime that happens, you know that an apology is
- 18:54Speaker 3: probably going to follow. That's exactly what happened in the
- 18:56Speaker 3: media availability with Mike Yoko. I think it was today
- 19:00Speaker 3: or yesterday. And it never goes well. And anytime you
- 19:04Speaker 3: start turning on your fans, and regardless of what the
- 19:07Speaker 3: situation is, that just means there's a level of frustration
- 19:10Speaker 3: going on with your program. And when you lash out
- 19:13Speaker 3: at people like that, I don't care what kind of
- 19:15Speaker 3: business you're in, if you lash out the people that
- 19:18Speaker 3: are paying your bills, it's probably not going to go
- 19:20Speaker 3: well for you in the end. And that's kind of
- 19:22Speaker 3: what we saw with Mike Yoko. Look, he's frustrated. He
- 19:25Speaker 3: had a lot of pomp and circumstance coming into the season.
- 19:28Speaker 3: I know I was one person that was really pushing
- 19:30Speaker 3: Texas A & M with what we read. I thought
- 19:32Speaker 3: they kind of figured some things out defensively, and it
- 19:35Speaker 3: has not gone well at all. And, you know, Texas
- 19:39Speaker 3: A & M, Jake, as you know, it's a program
- 19:41Speaker 3: that digs back to, you know, you're talking about Kevin Sumlin,
- 19:44Speaker 3: you fast forward what they've been able to do, hiring
- 19:48Speaker 3: Jimbo Fisher, firing him and paying him like an absorbent
- 19:51Speaker 3: amount of money to just go away. Then you feel like, wait,
- 19:54Speaker 3: maybe Mike Yelko has figured it out and had the
- 19:58Speaker 3: one good year. And obviously he's got a lot of
- 20:01Speaker 3: things going wrong. But here's the thing. This is a much,
- 20:03Speaker 3: much bigger issue than just Texas A & M. You've
- 20:07Speaker 3: got an SEC that's got one and two, which I
- 20:09Speaker 3: think that's Alabama and Georgia. Then you've got everybody else.
- 20:13Speaker 3: And then you've got Arkansas and Vanderbilt.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Yep.
- 20:15Speaker 3: And then maybe throw in another team or two there.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Everybody else can beat everybody else. And we'll see who
- 20:21Speaker 3: else might can beat Alabama and Georgia. That's yet to
- 20:24Speaker 3: be determined. But I'm fascinated to see how the rest
- 20:27Speaker 3: of the season shakes out. We'll learn a lot. about
- 20:30Speaker 3: Ole Miss and Missouri because, to me, this is de
- 20:32Speaker 3: facto college football playoff game. The loser's going to the house.
- 20:36Speaker 3: I don't think the winner or the loser of this
- 20:38Speaker 3: game could bounce back and run the table. The same
- 20:42Speaker 3: could be said for Missouri. So the good news for
- 20:44Speaker 3: Ole Miss, you get it at home. I mean, the
- 20:45Speaker 3: home field advantage has been huge when you talk about
- 20:49Speaker 3: that middle-of-the-road SEC team, kind of where Ole Miss kind
- 20:52Speaker 3: of hangs out. I mean, some may argue that they're
- 20:54Speaker 3: at the upper edge of that middle road, and I
- 20:56Speaker 3: get that. Maybe they're the third or fourth best team.
- 20:59Speaker 3: I think Missouri's up there too. And so a lot
- 21:02Speaker 3: of that will shake out. The same can be said.
- 21:04Speaker 3: We'll know a lot about Mississippi State and LSU. If
- 21:07Speaker 3: Mississippi State goes to LSU and wins, then all of
- 21:09Speaker 3: a sudden you've got Mississippi State up there because they've
- 21:11Speaker 3: beaten Missouri, depending on what happens to them in Ole Miss,
- 21:14Speaker 3: and they would have beaten LSU. So I think you've
- 21:16Speaker 3: got Mississippi State kind of hanging out. They've got a
- 21:19Speaker 3: tough road at the back half of their schedule, too.
- 21:21Speaker 3: So a lot of unanswered questions over the next couple
- 21:23Speaker 3: of weeks. If you're just a couch potato, Jake, and
- 21:26Speaker 3: you have no vested interest in this, and you're just
- 21:28Speaker 3: a dude from insert school here in the south and
- 21:31Speaker 3: you watch SEC football, this has to be the most
- 21:34Speaker 3: enjoyable SEC season you ever had. You've got nine conference games.
- 21:38Speaker 3: There's a lot of fluidity in the middle. There's a
- 21:41Speaker 3: lot of competition in the middle. There's so many teams
- 21:45Speaker 3: that are a lot like each other. And no one
- 21:48Speaker 3: can really separate themselves so far, so it's got to
- 21:50Speaker 3: be a lot of fun just for the average football watcher.
- 21:53Speaker 2: No, I would agree.
- 21:53Speaker 1: I felt like Saturday was awesome. This past Saturday, Saturday
- 21:56Speaker 1: night was fun, and this Saturday will be as well.
- 21:58Speaker 3: All right, so.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Takeaways from Ole Miss getting back on the field at
- 22:02Speaker 1: Vanderbilt before we get to Missouri.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you look at what Ole Miss did
- 22:06Speaker 3: and what happened Saturday in Nashville was much more about
- 22:09Speaker 3: Ole Miss than it was about Vanderbilt. winning in all
- 22:12Speaker 3: three phases of the game. It's almost like I talked
- 22:14Speaker 3: with Ben this afternoon. It's a bit like a roller
- 22:17Speaker 3: coaster for Ole Miss so far. You've got the hump
- 22:19Speaker 3: of LSU and dealing with that whole whirlwind of Lane Kiffin.
- 22:22Speaker 3: When you get over that, then you just completely plummet
- 22:25Speaker 3: and try to rebound after that awful experience in Florida.
- 22:28Speaker 3: Now you come back out on top. And I feel
- 22:30Speaker 3: like coming out of that, Jake, I'd love your thoughts
- 22:32Speaker 3: on this. It feels like after LSU, you're like, yeah,
- 22:35Speaker 3: that's Lane's old team. They got mad and they beat him.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Then you've got Florida. You're like, what team is this?
- 22:42Speaker 3: It feels like, to me, with Trinidad Chambliss, with John
- 22:45Speaker 3: David Baker's offense and kind of Pete Golding's defense kind
- 22:49Speaker 3: of resurfacing in Nashville, it feels like this is Pete
- 22:52Speaker 3: Golding's team now moving forward. Watching the team and kind
- 22:56Speaker 3: of watching some of those mannerisms, the press room was
- 22:58Speaker 3: right off of the locker room, so I was kind
- 23:00Speaker 3: of standing there watching the team, kind of leaned in
- 23:03Speaker 3: where the locker room was. It feels like it's much
- 23:05Speaker 3: more of a camaraderie. It feels like this was a
- 23:08Speaker 3: bit of a bloodletting from kind of washing away the
- 23:11Speaker 3: Florida game, the LSU game. I feel like if there's any,
- 23:14Speaker 3: you know, if this makes any sense at all, I
- 23:17Speaker 3: feel like this team is much more Pete Golding's team
- 23:19Speaker 3: than it was a couple of weeks ago, simply because
- 23:22Speaker 3: it feels like they came together in Nashville. They kind
- 23:25Speaker 3: of righted some wrongs. They played much better in all
- 23:28Speaker 3: facets of the game and just completely demolished Vanderbilt. That
- 23:31Speaker 3: was kind of my takeaway.
- 23:33Speaker 1: I agree with you. I said all year long leading
- 23:36Speaker 1: into the season that, you know, I felt like Ole
- 23:38Speaker 1: Miss would be up to play LSU, regardless of what
- 23:40Speaker 1: happened with the LSU game. I wanted to see Ole
- 23:42Speaker 1: Miss the next week. How would they respond? You know,
- 23:44Speaker 1: coming off emotional high against Florida, obviously that.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Didn't go the way they wanted it to. So to
- 23:49Speaker 2: get back on track, I think, I think you're right.
- 23:51Speaker 1: I mean, you just kind of take the off week,
- 23:53Speaker 1: you put it all behind you and now the rest
- 23:55Speaker 1: of the season, you know, you'll play it forward.
- 23:57Speaker 2: And I think there'll be, there'll be fine.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Speaking of being fine, Missouri comes to town this week.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Uh, Austin Simmons comes back to Oxford. What do you
- 24:05Speaker 2: see when you see Missouri?
- 24:07Speaker 3: I see a really good football team and it's not
- 24:10Speaker 3: the type of team I really anticipated in seeing at
- 24:13Speaker 3: the beginning of the year. And that just tells me
- 24:15Speaker 3: how much better Mississippi state is because they beat this
- 24:19Speaker 3: Missouri team in Starfield not long ago. That was with a,
- 24:22Speaker 3: obviously a fresh Camario Taylor. And so, just so many
- 24:27Speaker 3: layers of the onion in the SEC, and that's what
- 24:29Speaker 3: makes it all so much fun. But this Missouri team
- 24:32Speaker 3: is really a fun team to watch, I think. I mean,
- 24:35Speaker 3: I think they're kind of the darling of the SEC
- 24:37Speaker 3: right now. Eli Drinkwitz is kind of the dude that
- 24:39Speaker 3: kind of hangs out, takes a jab here and there,
- 24:41Speaker 3: but he's backed it up so far. I mean, Missouri
- 24:44Speaker 3: is a Mississippi State. Did that game go to OT?
- 24:48Speaker 2: No, that one did not.
- 24:49Speaker 3: It was close at the end, if I remember correctly.
- 24:52Speaker 3: They're one win from Starfield away from being undefeated and
- 24:56Speaker 3: maybe top two or three teams in the country. They're
- 25:00Speaker 3: clicking on all cylinders. They have destroyed Florida. They destroyed
- 25:03Speaker 3: South Carolina. They beat. They lost to Mississippi State. But
- 25:07Speaker 3: how good is Missouri? I mean, I think they're good.
- 25:10Speaker 3: I think they're pretty good. But then again, they got–
- 25:12Speaker 3: I think Mississippi State's really good, but then without Camario.
- 25:16Speaker 3: There's so many unanswered questions. I think Missouri is good.
- 25:20Speaker 3: We'll learn a lot on Saturday. I think Austin Simmons
- 25:23Speaker 3: is going to have a lot of pressure come his
- 25:25Speaker 3: way after what I saw against– with Vanderbilt and Ole
- 25:29Speaker 3: Miss last week with Blake Purchase, Jonathan Maldonado coming off
- 25:32Speaker 3: the edge, Cam Franklin kind of hitting his stride a
- 25:34Speaker 3: little bit, Sunterra Perkins. They're going to dial up the pressure,
- 25:38Speaker 3: judging by what I saw this past Saturday. So I
- 25:40Speaker 3: think Simmons will have some of that. But he's really
- 25:43Speaker 3: good in the pocket. He's really good at spinning the football.
- 25:45Speaker 3: I like what they're doing offensively with him, making him
- 25:47Speaker 3: have a really good pocket. I am questioning a little
- 25:49Speaker 3: bit about their defense. We'll see how good that defense is.
- 25:52Speaker 3: But Caden Lee is going to get his. He is
- 25:54Speaker 3: the one player that I told people today, of all
- 25:57Speaker 3: the people that transferred out, including Prince William Amiel and T.J. Dottery,
- 26:02Speaker 3: Caden Lee– He's the one. He's the one I think
- 26:06Speaker 3: that Ole Miss is going to miss the most, and
- 26:08Speaker 3: I think he's going to get his on Saturday. The
- 26:10Speaker 3: question is, will it be enough to beat Ole Miss?
- 26:12Speaker 3: I think it's going to be a close one. I mean,
- 26:14Speaker 3: Vegas has it, I think, right now at six and
- 26:16Speaker 3: a half. I expect that to come down. It's going
- 26:19Speaker 3: to be a beautiful day. It shouldn't be any weather
- 26:21Speaker 3: at all. 72 and sunny in Oxford. It should be
- 26:23Speaker 3: a beautiful day for football. So I'm really excited about
- 26:26Speaker 3: the game. History, as you know, Jake, has not been
- 26:29Speaker 3: kind to Ole Miss when they played Missouri. The Tigers
- 26:31Speaker 3: have had Ole Miss' number dating back to when they
- 26:33Speaker 3: went and played Missouri. Back in 05, I think, when
- 26:37Speaker 3: Ed Ogeron was a coach in Columbia. They returned that trip,
- 26:41Speaker 3: I think, in 06 in Oxford when it was a
- 26:43Speaker 3: torrential downpour. Lost both those games. History has not been
- 26:47Speaker 3: kind to Ole Miss when it's faced Missouri. So they've
- 26:49Speaker 3: got that to kind of deal with. At the end
- 26:51Speaker 3: of the day, it's all about Austin Simmons versus Trinidad Chambas.
- 26:54Speaker 3: And as long as Ole Miss has number six, they're
- 26:56Speaker 3: going to have a little bit of an advantage over
- 26:58Speaker 3: teams like Missouri.
- 26:59Speaker 2: No, I agree with you.
- 27:00Speaker 1: And I've got Ole Miss winning a close game on Saturday. And,
- 27:02Speaker 1: you know, when you look– and I think you said
- 27:04Speaker 1: it right. I mean, it really is a kind of
- 27:05Speaker 1: a college football playoff elimination game. And the reason being
- 27:09Speaker 1: is not necessarily because the SEC, it's just when you
- 27:11Speaker 1: look what's going on around the country. Take Iowa, for instance.
- 27:14Speaker 1: I mean, Iowa beats– they lose to Ohio State. They
- 27:17Speaker 1: beat Washington. They've got an opportunity with an easier schedule.
- 27:21Speaker 1: You look into the Big 12, there's going to be
- 27:23Speaker 1: two or three teams that run off a lot of
- 27:24Speaker 1: wins there. So the committee is going to have their
- 27:26Speaker 1: hands full with nine and ten win teams.
- 27:29Speaker 2: And you don't trust the committee, right? Nobody does.
- 27:31Speaker 1: I mean, nobody trusts the committee to say, oh, well,
- 27:34Speaker 1: Ole Miss or Kentucky or Mississippi State sitting at nine
- 27:37Speaker 1: and three, they deserve to be in based on strength
- 27:39Speaker 1: of schedule. So each and every week is absolutely this
- 27:42Speaker 1: point forward throughout the league is going to be, you know,
- 27:44Speaker 1: some sort of a playoff game, I think, in the league.
- 27:46Speaker 3: I have no doubt, Jake. And you can quote me
- 27:48Speaker 3: here on October the 12th on this beautiful Monday night
- 27:51Speaker 3: the good Lord has given us. There'll be a nine team,
- 27:54Speaker 3: nine and three team make the college football playoff. And
- 27:56Speaker 3: I think it'll probably be in the SEC because they're
- 27:58Speaker 3: the team there. They're the conference is going to have
- 28:00Speaker 3: the most difficult strength of schedule. They're the conference is
- 28:03Speaker 3: going to have a win over Texas or win over
- 28:05Speaker 3: Georgia or win over Alabama or insert win here. And
- 28:09Speaker 3: then they're going to have a good a good loss
- 28:11Speaker 3: to an Alabama, Texas or Georgia. And I think. In
- 28:15Speaker 3: order for Ole Miss to get to the college football playoff,
- 28:17Speaker 3: I think they're probably going to go 9-3. I'm not
- 28:20Speaker 3: deviating from that. As well as Ole Miss played against Vanderbilt,
- 28:23Speaker 3: I said Ole Miss needed to be 5-1 after the
- 28:25Speaker 3: first six games. I think they're going to drop two more,
- 28:27Speaker 3: whether it be Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia, Mississippi State, Missouri. Out
- 28:32Speaker 3: of those five games, I think Ole Miss is going
- 28:33Speaker 3: to drop a couple. So that gets them to 9-3.
- 28:36Speaker 3: The question remains, if Ole Miss beats Georgia, they've beaten LSU,
- 28:41Speaker 3: and that would have mean they would have beaten Texas
- 28:43Speaker 3: or Georgia. Oklahoma on the road, is that enough to
- 28:46Speaker 3: get them in the playoff if they lose to Mississippi
- 28:48Speaker 3: State or if they lose to Missouri or whatever? Is
- 28:51Speaker 3: the Missouri loss bad? Is the Mississippi State loss bad?
- 28:54Speaker 3: You see what I'm saying?
- 28:55Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 28:56Speaker 3: It all depends on who you win and, most importantly,
- 28:58Speaker 3: who you lose to. Is 9-3 going to be good enough?
- 29:02Speaker 3: Depends on who Ole Miss beats. If they can beat Georgia,
- 29:04Speaker 3: that's their biggest shot. They've got that arrow in the bucket.
- 29:10Speaker 3: If they can get Georgia at home, somehow lose a
- 29:13Speaker 3: couple more, I think Ole Miss has a great chance
- 29:15Speaker 3: at 9-3. Without a Georgia win, which they're number one
- 29:18Speaker 3: in the country right now, I don't know if a
- 29:20Speaker 3: win over Texas, Oklahoma, or Missouri and going 9-3 will
- 29:24Speaker 3: get you to the playoff. I do feel like with
- 29:26Speaker 3: their strength of schedule, If Ole Miss goes 10-2, regardless
- 29:29Speaker 3: of who the loss is to down the stretch, I
- 29:32Speaker 3: think Ole Miss is in at that point.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Brad, tell everybody where they can get your work. I
- 29:36Speaker 2: know you guys are going to be all over it
- 29:37Speaker 2: and busy this week.
- 29:39Speaker 3: Yeah, excited about our pregame show from 11 to 12,
- 29:41Speaker 3: 30 at the Ole Miss Alumni Association. We'll have the
- 29:44Speaker 3: Talk of Champions Live outside the Ole Miss Alumni Association
- 29:47Speaker 3: near the Grove. So I invite everybody to come by
- 29:49Speaker 3: and say hello. If not, we'll be streaming on all
- 29:51Speaker 3: of our social platforms, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and, of course, YouTube.
- 29:57Speaker 3: And also you can follow us at our YouTube channel.
- 29:59Speaker 3: That's at Ole Miss T-O-C, or it's actually Talk of
- 30:02Speaker 3: Champions O-M. And then, of course, at the Ole Miss Spirit.
- 30:05Speaker 3: That's an affiliate of all three at omspirit.com.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Brad, appreciate you, brother.
- 30:09Speaker 3: We'll do it again soon.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Thank you so much.
- 30:10Speaker 3: Always, Jay. Thank you. Thank you.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Brad Logan talking all things Ole Miss tonight as we
- 30:17Speaker 1: move along here on your broadcast. And, of course, we've
- 30:20Speaker 1: got a couple more things we'll get to real quickly
- 30:23Speaker 1: before we get out of here.
- 30:25Speaker 2: We told you about the eyeball test.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Also, my weekly now from here on college football playoff
- 30:30Speaker 1: predictor poll. Let me put that up here and show
- 30:33Speaker 1: you who I have, at least today, on the college
- 30:36Speaker 1: football playoff predictor poll. And this is based on analytics
- 30:40Speaker 1: and a lot of stuff the committee uses. But based
- 30:43Speaker 1: on the predictor poll, no state bands. I do not
- 30:46Speaker 1: have state in the top 20. I've got them right
- 30:47Speaker 1: outside the 20. Georgia, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Miami
- 30:51Speaker 1: as your best.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Four in the college football world.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Followed by Alabama, Indiana, Ole Miss, Texas, Kentucky, Utah, BYU, UCLA,
- 31:01Speaker 1: Texas Tech, Tennessee, Iowa, Missouri, USC, Oregon. And look, I
