- 0:09From the On Air Across America newsroom, I'm Alex Ross and this
- 0:13is your Morning News update. Social Security benefits will
- 0:16increase 3.6% in 2027. The Social Security
- 0:20Administration says the adjustment will raise the
- 0:23average retired workers payment by approximately $75 per month.
- 0:27The increase begins in January, while higher Supplemental
- 0:30Security Income payments begin December 31st.
- 0:34The announcement followed a new inflation report showing
- 0:36consumer prices rose 6/10 of 1% in September and 3.7% over the
- 0:42past year. Gasoline was a major contributor
- 0:45to the monthly increase. Newport News Shipbuilding has
- 0:48received a $56 million Navy contract for engineering and
- 0:52design work supporting the August submarine partnership.
- 0:55The agreement could eventually be worth $91,000,000.
- 0:59A federal judge has issued A preliminary injunction
- 1:02preserving White House access for CNNMS NOW and Politico while
- 1:06their constitutional challenge challenge proceeds.
- 1:09The White House says it plans to appeal.
- 1:11In hockey, the Kraken completed a three-game Rd. sweep by
- 1:14defeating Philadelphia three to two in a shootout.
- 1:17Dave, it should be noted, is very unhappy about this.
- 1:21For the On Air Across America network, I'm Alex Ross.
- 1:33From the On Air Across America, Silver Hill Production Studios
- 1:37located in Silverdale, WA, 400 feet above the beautiful Orca
- 1:42occupied Dies Inlet, a mere 75 miles from the most dangerous
- 1:46mountain in America. Grab your coffee cup, pull up an
- 1:50iPad and get ready for the submarine qualified.
- 1:53Well, coffee stuffy elitist history buff himself.
- 1:56It's plausibly live The Dave Bowman Show.
- 2:02Well, good morning, good evening or good afternoon, wherever you
- 2:05are, whatever you do. A lot of things happening in the
- 2:07world today, most of them are far beyond our control, you
- 2:10might say. So perhaps it's time we took a
- 2:12pause and thought about life and thought about the laws of
- 2:14gravity. The Heisman Trophy, it's the
- 2:18most meaningless, utterly useless, pointless trophy in all
- 2:25of sports, even more than the WNBA championship.
- 2:29We're going to talk about that. We'll talk about Iran and its
- 2:32election strategies, or maybe we'll get into some other things
- 2:36as well. Don't touch it, Dial.
- 2:37Just try to hear me out for a little while.
- 2:41This is actually the third take of today's show.
- 2:44It's not live streaming because I'm an idiot.
- 2:48You want to join the show? 209565 Dave is the text machine,

- 3:00Find us on the web at plausiblylive.com or the Dave
- 3:03bowmanshow.com. It's the same websites, 2 URLs.
- 3:07You can find us on Facebook, the Dave Bowman Show, and you can
- 3:12find me on Twitter. I'm actually there at Plausibly
- 3:15Live a Loqui Conizio. Stand up, tell those who oppose
- 3:20liberty, don't tread on me. So it has been a morning.
- 3:41One of the things I struggle with I I would love to do this
- 3:44live every day, but dot dot dot. I have a wife who does not drive
- 3:52anymore. She can she doesn't like to.
- 3:56I have a 16 year old son who's homeschooled and they have a
- 3:59pretty set schedule except for things like today where my wife
- 4:02had to be at work at 8:00 this morning because she had a staff
- 4:06meeting which led to an interesting conversation between
- 4:09Ben and I about uselessness of staff meetings and why they
- 4:13shouldn't happen. But that's a story for another
- 4:15day as we were going to buy Cocoa Puffs because that's what
- 4:18he likes and we were out at. At any rate, he's, we, they have
- 4:23a schedule. And so really for me, the only
- 4:27window to do this live would be in that very short window from
- 4:316:00 AM to 7:00 AM. Damn it.
- 4:34I just don't want to get up that early.
- 4:36I'm sorry. I get up at 7 anyway normally,
- 4:39except for Tuesdays, obviously, but I, I, I'm retired, I don't
- 4:44want to get up that early. So doing it live becomes
- 4:48problematic because there you go.
- 4:53However, comma this morning because my wife had to be at
- 4:57work at 8:00 because my son wanted to be up because my wife
- 5:01is going to be gone all morning. And he has class this afternoon
- 5:04and he likes to. He's a 16 year old boy and there
- 5:07are girls in the class. So he likes to get cleaned up
- 5:11before the before the class and that includes getting his hair
- 5:16washed. And if you've seen pictures of
- 5:18Ben lately, Ben has very long hippie ish hair and so he likes
- 5:24it blow dried so that it looks fluffy, but he can't apparently
- 5:31do this himself. So words I thought I would never
- 5:36pass my lips this morning. Dude, you're almost 17, you need
- 5:40to learn to blow dry your hair yourself.
- 5:43So he had to get up early. So because they had to get up
- 5:45early, I got up at early and I thought today's a good day to
- 5:49actually do this live, right? We got it.
- 5:52They sat down here and I had everything ready to go because I
- 5:55usually do my show prep the night before and I hit record, I
- 5:59hit start, I hit stream, everything was running.
- 6:02I'm talking away. I'm halfway through the 1st
- 6:04segment and I Rook up and realized there is no audio going
- 6:08out at all. None so much like yesterday when
- 6:16I completely fouled up. See, I, I said fouled up.
- 6:20I didn't say fucked up because even though this is a podcast
- 6:22and I can, I was trying to be polite.
- 6:24So I completely fouled up Bill's show yesterday because I wasn't
- 6:27paying attention to the audio output.
- 6:30So I did it again this morning, Did the same exact thing, this
- 6:33time on a live show. There's no, it's just me on the
- 6:35camera sitting there going nothing coming out and I only
- 6:40have X amount of time because I, I, I just get one shot at this.
- 6:44So Needless to say, I had to stop, delete everything, erase
- 6:51what was there, try to start over.
- 6:54I don't have time to start the whole thing over after I
- 6:57troubleshoot everything. Why am I not getting any audio
- 6:59output? Well, I one of the frustrations
- 7:04I have with Windows 11 is every time it doesn't update.
- 7:06Every single time it doesn't update, it resets everything.
- 7:11And of course, there was a major update yesterday afternoon after
- 7:14I had already fixed the problem that I had with Bill's show.
- 7:17It doesn't update. I didn't catch it, boom, out it
- 7:21went. So I don't have time to do that
- 7:24live show. So I get everything done, get
- 7:28Cammy to work, get Ben to the grocery store, get back here,
- 7:31get some breakfast, get some food, get some coffee in me and
- 7:35hit start again. Everything's working, but I
- 7:42messed things up. You know, if you're doing a live
- 7:47show and you follow things up, you just kind of keep going.
- 7:50But because it's a recording, I said, you know what, screw this.
- 7:53And I started over again. So to make a long story
- 7:58unnecessarily long shorter, this is the third take of the show
- 8:03today. I very much enjoyed doing it.
- 8:06You know how much I love sitting down in front of the microphone.
- 8:08You know how much I love talking to you and to Ben, because
- 8:11someday he's going to listen to this and he's going to be mad
- 8:13because I told him he needed to learn to blow dry his own hair.
- 8:17But we had a very good conversation, very good morning
- 8:20this morning and we'll go to class later.
- 8:22I'm excited because it's Wednesday, which means KFC has
- 8:24the country fried steak meal. So I get that for 5 bucks and
- 8:28blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I'm excited.
- 8:30It's a great day. It's trash day.
- 8:32The trash people are out there banging around trash cans.
- 8:35It's it's, it's going to be great.
- 8:37It's going to be cool, it's going to be fun if I ever get my
- 8:41stuff together and managed to actually do the show right,
- 8:45which we will try to do right after this short break.
- 9:27hot takes but not quite. North Korean nuke under a
- 9:30mountain Hut. This is plausibly live.
- 9:35All right, let's get started for real.
- 9:36You want to text me 520-9565, Dave, 209-565-3283 E-mail, of
- 9:43course, Dave at the Dave bowmanshow.com.
- 9:47If you had been watching college football of any level last
- 9:51weekend, you would have noted that my beloved Oklahoma Sooners
- 9:57upset air quote, air quote our hated rivals, the Texas
- 10:02Longhorns. I do not like the Texas
- 10:04Longhorns and never have, never will.
- 10:06I think that burnt orange color is hideous.
- 10:09It's disgusting. I have a couple of cousins,
- 10:12Keith in in particular, who who love the Texas Longhorns.
- 10:15I'm not one of them. I love Keith, but I'm, you know
- 10:20what? I have not seen Keith in 40
- 10:21years. Talked to him a couple times,
- 10:24but I haven't seen him before. Anyway, So I'm sure he was kind
- 10:27of disappointed with what happened.
- 10:28The, the, the issue with what happened was that Arch Manning,
- 10:32who was the quarterback for the Texas Longhorns, who was the son
- 10:35of Cooper Manning. Cooper Manning, the brother of
- 10:38Peyton and Eli, who are two of my favorite players in the NFL
- 10:42history. Peyton especially.
- 10:43Peyton is probably my number three favorite all time player.
- 10:46John Elway has to be #1 Floyd Little is right up there and,
- 10:51and, and Peyton Manning. I love listening to Peyton
- 10:55Manning talk about football when he breaks down what's happening.
- 10:58He's so much better at analyzing things than Tony Romo ever was
- 11:02or Troy Aikman ever will be. The difference is he doesn't.
- 11:07He's not so full of himself that he has to be on TV talking about
- 11:10it and saying the same thing over and over and over again,
- 11:14week after week after week. Did you see the thing where
- 11:16somebody pulled all the tapes of Troy Aikman?
- 11:19Oh my God, that was funny. Anyway, so anyway, the Arch
- 11:24Manning is the latest incarnation of this whole thing
- 11:27that started with his grandfather, Archie Manning, who
- 11:29played for the Saints back in the 70s.
- 11:32Arch Manning decided to go to Texas, probably on an NIL deal.
- 11:37He sat out for almost a year, you know, learning the offense
- 11:41and stuff, finally got the reins and he is considered the front
- 11:43runner for the Heisman Trophy. The Heisman Trophy is supposed
- 11:48to recognize outstanding individual achievements in
- 11:51college football. That's what it's supposed to do.
- 11:56It's not going It's not supposed to go to the best player or the
- 12:00greatest player, or even the Most Valuable Player.
- 12:05It's supposed to recognize individual outstanding
- 12:08achievements which have long since faded from the whole
- 12:14thing. At any rate, you'll be happy to
- 12:17know that Arch Manning completely blew his chances of
- 12:19winning the Heisman Trophy. He had been the favorite to win
- 12:22it, but because of his play in the game, where he threw for 260
- 12:26yards but threw two fourth quarter interceptions to my
- 12:30beloved Oklahoma Sooners. The New York Post immediately
- 12:33glommed onto this, declaring that he has, quote, completely
- 12:36ruined his Heisman chances. Heisman chances long gone.
- 12:41Yahoo News Waze did weighed in by finding some NFL GM somewhere
- 12:46who compared the Texas Longhorn quarterback Arch Manning to a
- 12:49massive draft bust. He's useless.
- 12:52He's terrible, Which strikes me as AGM trying to drive down his
- 13:00draft stocks so that his team can draft him later on.
- 13:02That's what it that's what it strikes me as.
- 13:04But we'll see what happens. The article has completely
- 13:09connected this one game, this one quarter of a game, to his
- 13:14entire NFL career, which by the way, has not started.
- 13:19And it leaves us in this position where one difficult
- 13:22game, even even 2 moments in that game, have now become a
- 13:25referendum on an entire season and potentially a professional
- 13:29career. There's a lot of money being to
- 13:31be made if you're the number one draft pick.
- 13:34Look, Arch Manning made football mistakes.
- 13:39He also was a victim of very good defensive play.
- 13:44Sometimes. You know, there's an old saying
- 13:46in professional baseball and football and stuff like, you
- 13:48know, the other people get paid to play too.
- 13:51They're they're professionals too.
- 13:53So it's not like they're just going to lay down and go, well,
- 13:56that's Arch Manning over there. Maybe we should just quit, throw
- 13:59up their hands. It doesn't work that way.
- 14:02So now we've reached a situation where what is actually football,
- 14:07what is actually sports, what is actually live, someone has
- 14:13decided, the New York Post, the Yahoo News have decided that
- 14:16somehow this means that Arch Manning is not an outstanding
- 14:19player. The conversation has become he's
- 14:23blown it. Instead of discussing his actual
- 14:25performance over the season, it's almost as if they've said
- 14:29Texas, which now has one lot. Now, there was a time in the BCS
- 14:32and prior to the playoffs and all that, when one loss probably
- 14:36could end your season. Today, that's not the case.
- 14:41Texas has a long way to go and being part of the SEC, they're
- 14:44going to play. They win their division.
- 14:45They'll play in the SEC championship game.
- 14:47If they beat that, they make the they they make the NCAA
- 14:49playoffs. It's potentially possible.
- 14:54In fact, it's probably still in the the good betting zone that
- 14:59Texas could still be the favorite for the national
- 15:02championship. But the media has built these
- 15:03players into superstars long before they've ever earned any
- 15:07actual recognitions. We were talking about Arch
- 15:08Manning two years ago. Why isn't Arch playing?
- 15:11Why isn't he getting the reps? Why isn't he doing this?
- 15:14And now that he is, now all we're doing is tearing him down.
- 15:16My God the the the guy threw 2 interceptions and lost a game by
- 15:21three points to his hated rivals.
- 15:26The Heisman Trophy was first awarded in 1935 by the Downtown
- 15:30Athletic Club, named after a guy by the name of John W Heisman.
- 15:35He. It was intended to recognize the
- 15:37most outstanding college football player.
- 15:41Listen to what The official criteria, Even now the official
- 15:44criteria for the Heisman Trophy are diligence, perseverance,
- 15:50hard work. It was never supposed to be
- 15:53about statistics. It was never about your
- 15:56reputation, and it certainly wasn't supposed to be about
- 15:59publicity. But all three of those things
- 16:02are now what's deciding it Outstanding individual
- 16:06achievements versus being the best player on the team.
- 16:11I would submit to you that I don't know.
- 16:14I've played on a lot of sports teams in my life.
- 16:17I would tell you hands down that there was a big difference
- 16:21between the Most Valuable Player we had, the person who was
- 16:24scoring the most goals, throwing the most pads, the strikes,
- 16:27whatever, versus the person that we weren't going to win without.
- 16:31That grinder, that person that that was always there, that
- 16:36filled in, that did just enough to make sure that the team won.
- 16:39But that person never gets the recognition that the superstar
- 16:43gets. There is unfortunately a long
- 16:46standing preference for quarterbacks and backs and and
- 16:50receivers for the Heisman Trophy.
- 16:52That's it's. But again, is that the best
- 16:57individual achievement on a team?
- 17:00Occasionally you'll get a great defensive player or Rod Woodson
- 17:04I think. Didn't he win it few years ago?
- 17:07Maybe not. And of course outstanding
- 17:10performers at smaller colleges. Back in the 80s there was a guy
- 17:13at Holy Cross who was a two way player.
- 17:16He was clearly an outstanding of individual achieving on the
- 17:20football field and his name is Gordy Lochbaum and they just
- 17:25sort of threw him a bone to nominate him but he was never
- 17:28going to win. A couple years ago, the Navy
- 17:30quarterback, same thing. It's become more about the
- 17:35narrative surrounding the player than the actual contribution on
- 17:38the field. You get pre season Heisman watch
- 17:42list manufactured debates about who's going to be the the
- 17:48Heisman Trophy, who's the who's the best player in college
- 17:51football. That's not what the Heisman's
- 17:52for. You get sports networks, ESPN,
- 17:57fox promoting players. Hey, watch this guy.
- 18:01He's the Heisman favorite, the Heisman favorite.
- 18:05I've never heard of him. We've never seen him before.
- 18:07And now all of a sudden, you've declared him the favorite to win
- 18:10the Heisman. And oh, by the way, universities
- 18:14are investing money in Heisman promotions, publicity campaigns.
- 18:19Of course, you've got the NIL opportunities, the personal
- 18:23branding that goes with it, and every performance that a player
- 18:28makes, everything the player does is now judged against.
- 18:32That doesn't matter that Texas is what, 4 and 1?
- 18:37Five and one, whatever they are. Doesn't matter that they still
- 18:40have the rest of the season. They've got to play Kentucky
- 18:42this week and then eventually they're going to be in the SEC
- 18:45mix. None of the hell that's gone out
- 18:47of the window. Arch Manning's not going to win
- 18:48the Heisman now because he threw 2 interceptions against
- 18:50Oklahoma, one of which was not his fault.
- 18:53He got outplayed. Sorry, he just did.
- 18:58Which leaves us with the questions.
- 19:00Does the Heisman go to the best player or the player with the
- 19:03most successful publicity campaign?
- 19:07How much does playing for a national prominently program
- 19:10impact that? I'd say a lot because, you know,
- 19:13if, if the Heisman Trophy was legit, Gordy Blochbaum would
- 19:17have won the year that he should have won it.
- 19:20He was the most outstanding college football player, hands
- 19:22down. He was probably the most
- 19:23outstanding college player of the of the decade, if not the
- 19:26second-half of the 20th century. He got nominated.
- 19:29But you know, thanks for showing up, fella.
- 19:32Here's a here's a food voucher. Go down and eat a nice meal.
- 19:37Voters are not independently evaluating performances.
- 19:41They're being influenced by the prevailing media narrative.
- 19:45None of this, I don't think, is new.
- 19:47I just don't. It's amplification of problems
- 19:51that have begun and have continued for decades.
- 19:56The problem is, of course, that this leads to it gets in a
- 20:00player's head. I don't know Arch Manning.
- 20:04I've never met him. I do know a little bit about his
- 20:08father. I know a lot about his two
- 20:10uncles, never met any of them. And I know a lot about his great
- 20:13his grandfather. And I know that they are the
- 20:16most level headed quarterbacks I have ever seen in my life.
- 20:21You just cannot flap them. You just, you just can't.
- 20:25And you can say whatever you want to me about what the Eli
- 20:28was this or Peyton was that. Archie never won.
- 20:31Nothing maybe, but again, it's team sport and there's a whole
- 20:36professional team on the other side that's getting paid to make
- 20:39sure that you lose. So you might want to take those
- 20:43things into account. And I know that it's got to get
- 20:48in your head because it gets in my head and I'm screwed up stuff
- 20:52this morning and now I'm thinking what if I throw that
- 20:54up? If if love a word, do I start
- 20:55over again? Same thing happens with the
- 20:57quarterback. He can play exceptionally well
- 21:00for weeks and then become the subject of a career ending
- 21:04narrative, A narrative being formed by the media because they
- 21:09lost a game by three points. Is it an individual award or
- 21:16does it become entangled with team victories?
- 21:19I dare say that if you were to sit down with Arch Manning
- 21:22again, I don't know. I've never met him and asked him
- 21:24would you rather win the Heisman or the national championship?
- 21:29I bet I know what his answer is. Football is a game of mistakes.
- 21:34It's a game of adjustments. It's a game of overcoming and
- 21:37recovering from bad ideas, bad plays.
- 21:40A great player can have a terrible game.
- 21:42Does today's coverage though, allow for that?
- 21:46Do they let the player develop? Do they?
- 21:49Or does he have to be perfect number one draft pick, Heisman
- 21:52Trophy winning kind of quarterback from the very first
- 21:55snap? How much pressure are we placing
- 21:59on these kids when every mistake, every single mistake
- 22:03that they make is supposedly destroying their future?
- 22:11The Heisman Trophy has become a symptom of a much larger
- 22:15problem. We've talked about NIL, name,
- 22:18image and likeness. It's fundamentally changed the
- 22:21structure of college athletics. It's it's, it's ruined stuff.
- 22:27The transfer portal has destroyed the game.
- 22:30Conference realignment. As much as I love Oklahoma, much
- 22:34as I love our rivalry with Texas, this conference
- 22:38realignment stuff is just, it's bullshit, people.
- 22:42Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas belong in the Big 12.
- 22:46Actually, Texas belongs in the Southwest Athletic Conference,
- 22:48but that doesn't exist anymore. So hasn't for a long time.
- 22:51Those three teams, especially Colorado, they belong in the Big
- 22:5512. But this college realignment has
- 22:59sacrificed those rivalries. Oklahoma doesn't even play
- 23:02Nebraska anymore. My calendar used to be set by
- 23:06that, the Friday after Thanksgiving.
- 23:10It was one of the greatest, one of the most biggest family
- 23:15moments we ever had. 1976 after my my grandma's funeral,
- 23:19watching the Oklahoma, Nebraska game.
- 23:23The expanded football playoffs has changed the significance
- 23:28though, of of individual games. What happens right now if Texas
- 23:32runs the table? OK, they lost to Oklahoma by
- 23:35three points. They're hated, bitter rivals.
- 23:38And we hate Texas, too. What happens if they run the
- 23:42table? They win the national title.
- 23:43You realize that? Are they capable of doing that?
- 23:47Hell yeah. This compass, constant emphasis
- 23:51on rankings, playoff projections, NFL draft stock is,
- 23:56is becoming part of the problem. Maybe I've gotten to the point
- 24:01where I just don't care about the Heisman Trophy anymore.
- 24:03I, I just don't know. I haven't watched it in years,
- 24:08don't care who wins because of 91 Heisman Trophy winners, you
- 24:14know that only 10 have ever made the NFL Hall of Fame.
- 24:18You'd think if they were the greatest football player in
- 24:20Heisman true in college football history, they'd be a lock for
- 24:23the NF LS success. But it's not it's not a
- 24:25guarantee. In fact, some of them are really
- 24:28bad. Oklahoma's had a couple of those
- 24:31where they won Heisman trophies and not so great in the NFL.
- 24:38It's historical significance is undeniable, but the annual media
- 24:42campaigns around it have become increasingly overshadowing of
- 24:47the actual game on the field. Arch Manning's mistakes should
- 24:54be evaluated as part of a season.
- 24:56Do you think? Do you think he went back and
- 24:57went, oh, crap, I've lost the Heisman?
- 24:59Oh, no, I've cost us the national title?
- 25:00Or do you think he went back to the film room and went, OK, what
- 25:04did I miss you? You see him do these Warby
- 25:06Parker commercials where he's analyzing his footwork and stuff
- 25:10like that. That's what he's doing this
- 25:13week. He's looking at that film going,
- 25:15OK, what did I miss that that defensive back saw?
- 25:20And that's really what football is supposed to be.
- 25:23You can tell me, you just general manager, NFL general
- 25:26man, you can tell me all you want about Arch Manning is going
- 25:28to be a draft bust. Yeah, I'm, I'm not going to take
- 25:32that bet because I know his pedigree.
- 25:34I know who's in his ear. I know who's talking to him.
- 25:38And I know what he thinks, how he thinks.
- 25:42And I'm telling you right now, Arch Manning is probably going
- 25:46to be a success in college football this year and he's
- 25:52probably going to be successful in the NFL.
- 25:54He may never win a Super Bowl because again, it's a, it's a
- 25:56team game. It's a lot to love about college
- 26:00football. The rivalries, the traditions,
- 26:03the stadiums. My, my family's home is 3 miles
- 26:07from Gaylord Memorial Stadium in Norman.
- 26:09The games themselves, at least sometimes, are compelling, but
- 26:14the business and the publicity machines surrounding FBS
- 26:17football is making it increasingly difficult to enjoy
- 26:19the sport. And I think that's the problem
- 26:21that they have. The Heisman controversy is just
- 26:25one more example of the frustration that we're having.
- 26:28Of course, when you get right down to it, you know what the
- 26:32real problem is, right? It isn't that Arch Manning threw
- 26:352 interceptions in the fourth quarter.
- 26:38The problem is people are betting on who's going to win
- 26:41it, and Arch Manning went from the favor to plus 30,000.
- 26:48Now he may not win the he may not win the Heisman Trophy.
- 26:54I might be tempted to put 20,020 bucks down on plus 30,000
- 26:58because I got a feeling that Texas, as much as I hate to say
- 27:01this, probably course for the facts, keep an
- 27:38eye on the people in charge, and whatever you do, don't wear the
- 27:41red shirt. This is plausibly live.
- 28:05So Alex had the news this morning, 2 senior Iranian
- 28:07officials and we, I don't know what that means.
- 28:09Does anybody know what that means?
- 28:11Senior Iranian officials have told Reuters, the news agency,
- 28:16that Tehran has changed the pace, type and geographical
- 28:21range on attacks on commercial vessels to maintain high oil
- 28:23prices and influence the November 3rd American elections.
- 28:29So they have said the reason we're doing this is to influence
- 28:33the elections, which means that, OK, no matter how you slice
- 28:37this, the Iranians do not like the current United States for
- 28:41government makeup. They want the other side.
- 28:47So if you're voting for the other side, are you taking that
- 28:52into account? Does this, does this really
- 28:56resonate with you? Oh my God, if we just want these
- 29:00attacks to stop, all we got to do is vote for the other side
- 29:03and the Iranians will go, well, that's it then we're going to,
- 29:06we're all done. No problems anymore, right?
- 29:09That's what's going to happen. That that's what you believe.
- 29:16You know, I, I, I said on Sunday with Rod that I'm, I'm reticent
- 29:21about the publicity of live streaming, the execution of
- 29:27Nidal Hasan, but I did read an article this week about by
- 29:31someone who has a different viewpoint.
- 29:32And he talked about the fact that, look, your argument that
- 29:37it's going to be used as propaganda is nonsense because
- 29:40they already hate us. They already despise you.
- 29:43They're already going to use it as propaganda.
- 29:45So send the message. There's the old story about the
- 29:52Soviet Union in the 80s where one of their one of their
- 29:55diplomats was kidnapped by Hezbollah or somebody in the in
- 29:59in Middle East and threatened. And the Soviets went and got the
- 30:03family members of the of the kidnappers and said OK, peace
- 30:08for peace and I don't mean P/E A/C EI mean P/E IC.
- 30:13So they started sending pieces of the family to the kidnappers
- 30:16and lo and behold, the Soviet diplomat got released.
- 30:20Whether that story is true or not, I don't actually know.
- 30:23I remember it in the way that there was a lot of stuff that
- 30:26happened in the 80s. Sound like a hippie talking
- 30:29about the 60s. A lot of stuff happened in the
- 30:3160s. I don't know if I really
- 30:33remember it but but I do remember the story making the
- 30:35rounds. If this story is accurate, Iran
- 30:39is attempting economic election interference through military
- 30:43pressure on commercial shipping rather than cyber operations Or
- 30:46just plain propaganda. Plain propaganda is not going to
- 30:49work because really, who's listening to them and and who
- 30:52the hell are these senior Iranian officials?
- 30:57An adversary's attempt to manipulate voters does not
- 31:00dictate the proper American response.
- 31:04Escalation could raise oil prices further.
- 31:06But again, something that I noted the other day, I was just,
- 31:10I was sitting there listening to something and I was talking to
- 31:12my wife, whom I love dearly. And someone said something
- 31:18about, you know, seven, $7.00 a gallon gas.
- 31:20If, if Trump doesn't end this war, the gas is going to be
- 31:22$7.00 an hour gallon, $7.00 an hour, That would make sense,
- 31:25$7.00 a gallon. And before I can even engage my
- 31:30brain, before I can even think about what he's saying, I looked
- 31:32at the person and I said, you know what?
- 31:34Three years ago you were telling me that $7.00 a gallon gas would
- 31:37help the world, it would help the environment.
- 31:40And now you're saying it's a problem.
- 31:43Is the difference what? What's the difference?
- 31:46The difference is you don't like the guy in charge.
- 31:49That's it. That's the only freaking
- 31:51difference. If your guy's in charge, $7.00 a
- 31:54gallon gasoline is great because it'll save the environment.
- 32:00If the other guy's in charge, $7.00 a gallon gas is bad
- 32:03because it's hurting the economy.
- 32:06Or is it? I don't know.
- 32:10Maybe it is, maybe it ain't. The strategic explanation comes
- 32:15from 2 unnamed, unnamed Iranian officials there in that alone
- 32:22should cause us to step back and go OK, is this real?
- 32:24Is it not real? What does it matter?
- 32:28The Strait of Hormuz carries roughly 1/5 of global oil
- 32:31production. That was before the war.
- 32:36The Navy LED maritime center rates the current merchant
- 32:41shipping threat as severe. And as you heard Alex tell you,
- 32:45shippers are avoiding that area. There are other issues that are
- 32:50going on. Most of us are completely
- 32:54unaware of the fact that Saudi Arabia is dealing with a major
- 32:57Houthi issue, uprising, attacks on oil production.
- 33:03So even if you open the Strait of Hormuz, those things are
- 33:06going to go down. It seems pretty obvious to me,
- 33:10and maybe I'm just the idiot here.
- 33:13It seems pretty obvious to me that the answer is what Once
- 33:17Upon a time we call drill, baby drill.
- 33:18Self-reliance for energy, modular, nuclear, wind where
- 33:25appropriate, solar where appropriate.
- 33:30But no, it seems to me like both sides are taking advantage of
- 33:34the fact that the other side has caused the gas to go $7.00 an
- 33:37hour, and that means you should vote for the other side.
- 33:41Even the Iranians seem to have gotten in on that one.
- 33:48Take the time right now. Tell the people that matter in
- 33:50your life you love them very much.
- 33:51You'd miss them if they weren't there.
- 33:52So don't pass up those opportunities.
- 33:54You don't want to have that regret.
- 33:56Plausibly Live. I'm Dave Bowman.

- 34:00Live, the Dave Bowman Show right here on the on air across
